Roger Clemens, come get your boy. He's a nuisance. And you know what? You can take every member of this bullpen with you, except Brandon Garcia.
Diamondbacks dropped this one to the twins in shocking fashion by a score of 9 to 8 in a game that is a perfect metaphor for the Diamondback season.
We're going in live. Don't you go anywhere?
Well, welcome in to another edition of the PHNX Diamondbacks podcast right here on PHNX.
My name is Derek Montia, occasionally known as a man who, despite the many losses we've seen from this team this season, I'm still absolutely shocked at what we saw tonight.
Great to have you guys here.
Of course, I know we're all sad.
I know this is not a good night for us, and this is a shockingly bad win on a night where I think we all thought maybe the Diamondbacks were going to have their 30 second comeback victory of the year.
Instead, they lose this one by a score of 9 to 8, and they dropped the 73 and 75 on the year.
Knights 23, you are absolutely right.
This one hurts bad.
It hurts bad.
And of course, Brandon Fott was not very good in this game.
He remains inexplicably awful on the road.
But the Diamondbacks four-run ninth inning gave us all hope, only for the bullpen to throw that hope away in the, I don't know, the lakes of, or the icy waters,
of Lake Minnetonka. Welcome into you guys. Of course, this show is brought to you by our friends at
Bet365 in GameTime. Go use that code of PHNX 365 when you download Game, uh, Bet 365. You'll get
yourself some bonus bets for signing up over there. Over at Game Time, you can use our code of
PHNX. You'll get $20 off your first ticket purchase. And of course, you always save last minute
with those ticket purchases. We got a guy, Arriton, aka the Freckled Bomba on the ones and twos
tonight and yes that's an actual drunk muppet behind me because i think it's appropriate after
what we saw the diamondbacks do tonight like i said um i don't i don't i don't know what to say
on this one guys i really don't i feel like we have seen some awful losses from this team
i think that the uh ninth inning bullpen uh management as alice says here was indefensible
and you are not wrong about that.
In general, the bullpen was really bad in this game,
but basically allowing Jake Woodford to go out there
and throw, load the bases, give up a run,
and basically do nothing but give the twins an absolute chance to come back
was criminal.
I don't even think that the twins would have just come back with,
but you know with this score of nine to eight i think if baseball had rules that allowed them to score
as many runs as they could there in the ninth inning the twins would have scored 15 runs off of
this diamond backs bullpen it didn't look like they were able to stop anything and that's a shame
because the offense of course got going right away in this one haroldo perdomo as always was a big
part of it uh he did get the scoring going once again in the first inning uh he walked stole second on a throwing
reach third and then scored on a Corbyn-Carroll RBI single.
We know Perdomo is Perdomo.
He delivered all in this game.
He was hit by a pitch not once but twice.
He was hit by a pitch in the third inning and then hit by a pitch in that very important
ninth inning.
And that's probably what we should be talking about because the ninth inning was the real
story here.
The Diamondbacks at the time were down six to four coming into the ninth inning.
They were able to chip away throughout the game.
They got one back in the fifth inning with like,
a throwing error by twins second baseman lukechel who ended up being the guy to win the game for
the twins um but again there was just a chipping away and then in the ninth inning tim tawa led off
the inning with a double uh jerry p like i said got hit by a pitch for the second time in the game
ilomar vargas reached base on a fielder's choice perdomo was out at second tawa made it the third
carroll made it a six five game with an rbi single and then the man
the myth, the Gabby, Gabriel Moreno,
hit his ninth home run of the year to give the snakes an eight to six lead.
I probably screamed louder during that period of time than I have in a very long time
in my own home watching a Diamondbacks baseball game.
It was very exciting.
The Diamondbacks made something incredible happen there.
And I think that, you know, if taking a moment to just discuss my feelings,
before we got on to that terrible bottom of the ninth,
um,
it felt like magic was starting to happen,
you know,
it felt just,
and it didn't last long enough.
It was fleeting.
It was just here for a moment.
Uh,
and then it was gone,
uh,
after another Cody Clemens home run,
his third of the night.
That kid,
uh,
get,
get him out of here.
Get him out of here.
Get Cody Clemens out of here.
I don't want to see him ever again.
I don't,
want to play two more games against them the diamondbacks are awful at target uh field and they've discussed
it on the broadcast but uh they've just been awful but uh elizabeth zabe says can we take a few moments
for a group cry i that's what i feel like doing because again like i said we have the uh you know
we have a lead there going into the ninth inning not just a slim lead not just the lead you could
really feel the diamond backs we're going to blow uh you know you know you
you had a two-run lead.
You felt pretty good about that.
At least I felt pretty good about that.
Maybe you didn't.
Maybe you're a smarter person than me that didn't allow your heart to get in there.
But Richard Perry with a great comment, why wouldn't Saul Frank start the inning against Clemens?
I don't know, Richard.
I don't know.
And I think that's the feeling here of contempt.
That's the feeling here that the ninth inning once again went to the mustacheless Jake Woodford.
That still boggles my mind why that man doesn't.
have a mustache yet, but again, he was not good. And to say not good, it was the worst
outing that I've seen from this bullpen in the ninth inning. And that is saying a lot.
That is saying a lot about this bullpen because this bullpen, quite frankly, has been awful at times.
And I am not going to throw my guy tea time in there because he had two thirds of an innings
pitched and a strikeout.
So he did what he was asked.
Brandon Garcia looked amazing tonight in an inning of work.
He had two strikeouts.
Even Beeks got in there, got an inning of work in, no runs, no hits, no anything.
But Jake Woodford did not record an out in the ninth inning.
And I just, I don't, I know there's a three run rule, three batter rule.
I don't know what, I don't know what Tori.
even thought going with Woodford
over Saul Frank. I'm sure he
had his reasons. I'm sure the matchups were what
they were. But
miss me on all of that.
I don't care tonight.
Woodford. I almost didn't write
Woodford's line down in my notes because I was
just too busy writing the word awful
over several times. I put awful
and then just awful as two
separate notes. But that's because
he was awful tonight. But
I just don't know.
Michael Dixon said Saul Frank was
available by emergency only per Jack Summers, and that would make sense. However,
when you go out there and you give up a home run to lead off the inning and then give up
immediately two base runners, especially considering that Jake Woodford is not your actual closer,
you have to turn to someone else. You can't just sit there powerless and let that
particular reliever lose the game for you completely and utterly.
you know, I know it was a one run game.
I know there was probably not much any reliever could have done to come into this game and stop the bleeding.
But make an attempt, do something about it.
You know, intervene.
Like, just give us someone else a shot when a pitcher who, this can happen on any given night doesn't have his stuff.
You know, quite frankly, Kyle Backus didn't have his best night tonight.
He went out there, gave him two thirds of an inning, gave up a home run.
He walked a guy and he didn't help keep this lead any closer for the Diamondbacks
and his two-thirds innings of work.
But my God, the fact that the Diamondbacks just let that one go the way they did,
the way that Tori Lavolo let that game just go the way he did.
That's, you know, that's inexcusable, quite frankly, I think.
I mean, I don't know.
I know that there is always the consideration.
of the future games, the rest of the series,
not wanting to spend your bullpen all in one game.
But this is ridiculous, to be fair.
You know, this is ridiculous.
You have to at this point pull out all the stops
when you are this in a wildcard race,
this much in a race with the Mets losing
and your ability to make up ground,
and you just let this one go by you.
I don't know what to say.
I mean, again,
I do try to blame the players at times as well.
So Jake Woodford, awful, just awful performance tonight.
But, you know, not doing anything about it,
that is completely 100% on Tori Lavallo.
The Diamondbacks had bad defense tonight out there behind Brandon Fought.
That was in the fourth inning there with two outs and no,
two on and no outs in the four, Jake McCarthy,
completely misplayed a ball on a sliding catch.
clanked off of his shoulder and allowed the twins to load the bases then on the subsequent batter
brooks lee flies out to jake who throws who threw the ball in with a strong throw um and it
appeared like they might have had a chance for a play at the plate at that moment but uh blaze alexander
cut it off i don't know if he should have he did make a great play to get a second out uh that was
matt walner who was off base over at second for that second out uh but the twins do take a two to one lead
at that time. And, you know, again, they, they piled on throughout the night.
Offensively, the Diamondbacks did the thing. They gave themselves a chance to win tonight.
They won the game offensively, at least as far as what they needed to do, right?
The ninth inning, especially Tim Tawa, that double and then everything that occurs after that.
Good performances tonight from Corbyn Carroll, who went hitless in that series in San Francisco.
He was two for four tonight with two RBIs and a walk.
Caraldo Perdomo kept getting hit by pitches, and I hate that.
He was one for two tonight, with two RBI still.
He had two, he was hit by pitches twice, walked once, two runs scored, and then Tim Tawa,
one for three tonight with two runs and a walk.
But, of course, there is no doubt in my mind that the Kingsnake in this game is the one,
the only Gabrielle Moreno, who was two for four tonight with a home run, three RBI and a walk.
great to see you guys here i need the support i need i know you guys need the support uh this one is
an incredibly depressing loss so love to hear from you guys vg muse in the chat says
woodford literally could not perform worse homer extra base hit walk hit by pitch he was one wild
pitch short of the worst pitch hitting in major league baseball history you're not wrong that's what
it felt like watching him for sure and it was just
an absolute disaster out there for him.
Candace, great to see you here.
Bees, great to see you as always.
Fernando stopped screaming at me about firing Tori Lovelo
because there's nothing, as Killarex will attest to,
there's nothing I can do about that.
So you're going to have to definitely go above my pay grade on that one.
But let me tell you also, things don't get any better
because as most of you saw on the broadcast,
Cotel Marte was in the lineup but was scratched prior to the game.
Tori Lavello said that before the game, he couldn't really put weight on his foot that was injured with the foot contusion.
That's his, and apparently was still experiencing some soreness, some sort of discomfort.
So he was removed from the lineup.
And now Nick Picorre reported that he will undergo some testing tomorrow that could involve an MRI.
you know, I've said on an earlier episode this week,
Cotel Marte has not been right at the plate.
I'm not sure.
I doubt that this injury has anything to do with it.
But, you know, again, the Diamondbacks really need Marte.
This is 15 games now left in the season.
And they need their superstar here.
And they need their superstar performing.
Corby and Carol turned things around nicely today.
but overall, this loss is on on the bullpen.
Sean says, so Saul Frank was emergency only, was Kurdish, Rashi,
because why the F do you go with Woodford?
I don't have an answer for you on that one.
B says it's been over for quite a while now.
It pains me to see you all suffering the pain of hope.
And again, that's the reason why this particular performance is,
this game is such an.
encapsulation of the Diamondbacks 20-25 season. Right. Offensively, they were great.
Starting pitching, disappointing, let them down, didn't really do much to give them a chance to
win. Five, you know, five runs similar to a five ERA, which is what most of the guys in the starting
rotation have had all season long. And then you had the offense uplifting you, giving you hope,
making you believe, much like this team has made us all believe all season long.
I'm probably guilty of being an accomplice to that, but I'm just a joyful person and like.
So I wanted to turn this on so bad tonight.
I got batteries for it and everything.
And now I think I'm going to throw in the trash.
I don't know.
I don't know.
I might throw in the trash.
But again, going back to this being a metaphor for this season, the Diamondbacks coming so close, having an amazing comeback, being the answer.
being the answer backs once again causing chaos in this game multiple stolen bases gabby had a stolen base
raldo perdomo had a stolen base but ultimately their bullpen catastrophic failure when they needed them to be their best
and again like i said the diamondbacks it felt like the diamond backs could have been up by 10 runs in this one
and still would have lost in the ninth inning with the way things were going with that pool pen so i i don't really know
what else to say, but
I do say that this
is not a good situation. The news
about Cotel is not great. Obviously,
we talked yesterday that Tyler
Locklear is now done for the season.
So,
if they lose Cotel Marte,
if the MRI or the testing tomorrow
comes back, is anything serious that he'll lose
the rest of the season,
abandon
hope, abandon ship, folks. I don't know.
I still want you to come here and hang out with me.
I mean, we can talk about other things like why I have so many toys in this particular room,
because I can do a whole podcast on that.
But I don't know what this team is going to do.
And Tyler, Killarex is in the comments calling everybody a bum on this team.
And on this night, I'm not going to stop them.
I'm not going to let you call Gabby a bum, though.
That I will invite you to a jack in the box to fight me over that.
But I do think that this team is not done yet.
I just think that this is,
this is, uh, the last of it,
especially if they can't figure out a way to salvage the rest of the series and win
against this twins team, right?
Like once again, here's a team that's been struggling and suddenly they look amazing,
including Cody Clement,
Clemens.
I keep calling him Clemens.
I don't know why.
Like I'm trying to like,
add extra flavor to that lack,
last name.
Cody Clemonds has a career night against this team with three home runs.
Uh,
and it was just,
hard to watch hard to watch uh one guy beat us like that like he did tonight hard to watch this bullpen
have that catastrophic meltdown in the ninth inning but we're going to take a quick break on
the other side of this break we're going to ponder why brandon fought stinks so badly on the road
anytime he pitches on the road and why his splits are so bad it doesn't make any sense don't you
go anywhere you're watching the ph next diamond back show well tonight is definitely a night for

Well, like I said, another awful outing for our guy Brandon fought on the road tonight.
twins were making some hard contact against him, especially there in the third inning.
And like I said, it began in the show, Roger, come get your son.
Your boy is being a nuisance.
He is terrorizing our team, and we need him out of here.
Brandon Fott gave up a solo home run to Cody Clemens to lead off the third inning.
That one was 106.1 miles per hour off the bat.
Clemens also had a double.
That was 106.7 miles per hour off the bat.
And again, two home runs tonight for Cody.
It was just an incredible night for him against the Diamondbacks.
And I already, I just met him and I hate him.
I just met him and I hate him.
So great first impression as an opposition.
But when it comes to what Brandon fought was doing tonight,
he stayed completely away from his forcing fastball.
I know typically he uses a sinker kind of as a fastball.
He did that tonight.
maxed out at 94.5 miles per hour, but he did only throw his four seam four, six times tonight,
through the cutter five times tonight, pretty much went with his sinker, change up, and curbball.
We have his pitch chart here, and you can just kind of see, like, a lot of non-competitive pitches
there with his change up and his curve ball way, way outside of the zone.
His sinker also wasn't really landing in the zone, and a lot of those are just right there down Main Street.
So, and then the four scene and the cutter just were lost.
They were absolutely lost tonight for Brandon Fought, which is why he abandoned ship on those.
Tonight, Brandon Fought, four and two-thirds innings pitched, nine hits allowed, five, or excuse me, five earn runs, one walk, two strikeout.
So just an awful, awful night there for Brandon Fought.
And again, this is a man who, quite frankly, has just been terrible on the road.
in the most inexplicable way.
I don't know if you remember this,
but in 2024, Brandon Fotz splits
actually went the other way where he was better on the road
than he was at home.
They discussed this on the broadcast,
but 21 of
Brandon Fott's 24 home runs
allowed this season have come
on the road.
He's only allowed three home runs at home.
His home ERA is 3.50
with a 1.287 whip.
Meanwhile, on the road, at least coming into this
game. He had a 7.13 ERA and a 1.4.86 whip now currently has 21 home runs allowed on the road.
And that's kind of crazy because as it was reminded, as I was reminded, his yes hitter,
that game where he did not record a single out was a home game. And that factors into this.
That factors into this a lot. B says I hated letting Stromi walk and feel
very indicated in that, vindicated in that. Well, let me tell you, it definitely felt like Stromie was the
guy that made Brandon fought very, very good. It felt like, you know, Stromi made those changes to
pitchers. It felt like he obsessed over these guys. I'm not, I'm still not sure what happened there.
If Brent Strom walked away from the game like he was intending to when the Diamondbacks hired him,
I'd feel differently. But the fact that he went on to Pittsburgh to work with Paul Skeens and
continue to make him one of the most dominant pitchers in the game,
kind of makes me sick.
And I really wish the Diamondbacks didn't go in a different direction.
Unfortunately, it felt like there was just something that wasn't the right fit with the pitchers.
And, you know, like V says, I hate the fact that Strom is no longer a part of this team.
I really do as well.
Of course, Brandon fought today, like I said, four and two thirds innings pitch, nine hits
allowed, five run runs, one walk, two K.
uh,
Ayrton,
I know this is entirely too much trouble for you,
but let's go ahead and fire up that circle case strikeout meter.
This thing uses,
um,
106 gallons of water per minute to be powered up.
And we have to do that for two strikeouts.
Seems,
seems,
seems wasteful as the main water main leak I had outside of my house here.
Uh,
but again,
if this was a home game,
that would still get you a free any size polar pop.
All you got to do is tech strike to 3.1.310 to start saving on
fuel food and drinks after every D-BAC's home game with every K, you win at Circle K.
And again, the bullpen, the bullpen, the bullpen.
Like I said, Roger Clebens can come get his kid and he could take this bullpen with
him.
Not Brandon Garcia.
Brandon Garcia looked like an absolute stud tonight.
Ryan Thompson still wants the ball in every big scenario.
It doesn't matter what.
And I love that about him.
And he delivered for this team tonight.
and even Jalen Beaks quietly had himself a good good inning there in the eighth inning.
Just a quiet, uneventful, unexciting, non-thrilling, non-disappointing inning.
Of course, it had to happen in the ninth inning.
It had to happen after the Diamondbacks had a lead.
That's when Jake Woodford had to go out there and record not a single out,
give up two hits, three earn runs, one walk, and one hit by pitch.
And a home run, by the way, and not record an out.
our guy erriton doesn't really watch baseball a whole lot he's more of a hoop head uh but i will say
he was kind of shocked about just seeing the game tying home run walked in there you know like
dude to big league pitchers actually do this very often and like my answer had to be no not
really, not typically. You'd almost rather give up the home run there pitching to the guy and
have it walk off, right, than the way that ended. It was pathetic the way it fizzled out.
And it was especially pathetic having Saul Frank come into the game and obviously not be able to
grip the baseball. Like that was incredible to me that Saul Frank was going to the dirt in the
ground and he was just doing whatever he could. It looked like to dry his hands.
Hands off. I know that the broadcast did mention about how humid it has been, how humid it's going to be in Minnesota for this weekend.
But I was just shocked by Saul Frank coming out of the bullpen and not being able to have a grip on the ball, you know, at all.
So I know that's part of it. I know that's why guys use sticky stuff and then they get thrown out of games, Dan Blendino.
But still, you could definitely tell that Saul Frank could not get anything, any kind of grip on.
the ball, especially with that, the ball four that caused the walk and tied the game up.
But again, Saul Frank was put into an impossible position.
I don't know many relievers that could have gone out there in that situation and just
struck out the side to save the game after Woodford left the game with bases loaded and no
out.
So, but yeah, I mean, you're not wrong.
Saul Frank did get an out faster than Woodford.
And again, Michael Dixon says, I'm getting mad all over again.
That's why I don't, like, I don't want to sit here and narrate the game, but I just,
I'm still kind of recapping it and living in this world where this happened.
I still can't believe that the Diamondbacks, you know, did this.
Richard Perry says Justin Martinez would have gotten out of it.
Maybe.
Maybe.
I don't know.
I don't know of any Diamondbacks reliever that you could really say that you would have felt
100% secure with them going into that situation, especially after what Woodford did.
But the big question, the big, the big questioning of Tori here is going with Jake Woodford
and then leaving him in up to that point, right?
Jake Woodford had a chance, or he had a chance, he gives up the home run to the leadoff hitter.
Walks the next guy or extra base hit, then walks the next guy.
As far as I'm concerned, most managers in baseball would have already had a,
another pitcher getting warmed up in the bullpen in case this happened anyway,
especially considering that Tori has not deemed any of these guys their closers,
no matter how much he tends to go to Woodford in the ninth inning or in high leverage
situations, right?
So why not have a contingency plan where you have another guy warming up and ready,
just in case this exact same thing happens, right?
Maybe I'm simplifying this too much.
Maybe I'm just, maybe this is just me and MLB, the show.
but it's what I do in MLB the show.
So I would think a big league manager would also do this as well.
And instead, you have to go to Andrew Saul Frank in the emergency situation after Woodford stays in there for what, five, four four batters, right?
Loads the bases.
And again, I just, I feel like not loading the bases, not having that extra runner on could have at least given Saul Frank or whoever you turn to there a little bit more leeway to not let, you know, that that, that.
tying run score or the winning run score.
But instead, Woodford stays in there for far too long.
And that's it.
Sean says the Hank Aaron of blown lead losses, 44 this season, baby.
Ooh, that's a lot.
That's a lot.
This would have been their 32nd comeback win of the year,
which I found out isn't really that many in compared in the grand scheme of things
for baseball.
It would have tied them, I believe, with the Marlins for 17th, most.
comeback victories in the league. So a lot of teams, even though, even though we have seen the
Diamondbacks come back a lot, we definitely see them blow these leads more than we see them
come back this season. And that number definitely says it. 44 blown leads, 31 comebacks. Not great.
Not great. Also, not great. Just this bullpen in general, the situation in general.
We were going to talk about where the Diamondbacks sit in the All-Star, or excuse me,
All-Star Wildcard standings, but we're also going to take a look at the numbers from this game.
I'm sorry to make Michael Dixon more angry by revisiting this game again.
But we're going to do that on the other side of this break.
Don't you go anywhere you're watching the PH&X Diamondback Show.

Well, let's unfortunately talk more about this game.
Let's take a look at the count presented by our friends at Desert Financial Credit Union.
Diamondbacks lose this one by a score of nine to eight.
They had 10 hits to the twins 12 hits.
Runners in scoring position, Diamondbacks were four for nine.
So again, this is another instance, another example of the offense getting the job done today.
the twins were two for nine with runners in scoring position.
D-backs had four extra base hits.
Six for the twins,
and three of those are Cody Clemens' home runs.
A 305 expected batting average for the Diamondbacks
to a 354 expected batting average for the twins.
Mays Devil says,
haven't seen Thunderbolt much this season.
I, you know what?
I mean, I thought we would have seen him all the time,
if I'm being honest.
This is a season that I feel like the number,
Bolt would have reveled in.
This is this is his jam.
Just like it's Killer X's jam, right?
Seeing Tori Lobello go out there and make a boneheaded move.
I mean, I see Killer X just pointing at the screen and doing the Leonardo DiCaprio on that one.
But also, Gilty said, did anyone see Marte having a laugh on his iPod or on his iPad?
Yes, yes, I did.
I also want to make sure that, you know, we keep our fingers.
cross about Cotel Marte because if Cotel is done, this wildcard race truly is done.
But Emily, I have noticed you.
I love you, Emily.
As always, I'm working on the updating the Jersey article as we speak right now.
It'll be there before you know it.
Mays Devil says, don't blame him.
I don't know if you're talking about Thunder Bolt or if you're talking about Cotel Marte,
but I won't blame either one of them.
who I will blame the bullpen because they were awful tonight and they did not help in any way, shape, or form.
Let's take a look at the wild card race, the updates on the standings because things are not great, you guys.
Well, they could be worse, right?
The Mets are having the greatest meltdown potentially in MLB history.
I don't know.
I mean, they had such a firm grasp on the wild card that they weren't even worried about winning the wild card because they were
expecting to go up against the Phillies and sweep them and take the division. And that did not
happen. They got swept. They are big time losers. They continue to lose. The wild card standings
right now have the Cubs at the top there. They are eight and a half games up on the final spot.
They are 84 and 63 and pretty much guaranteed at this point one of those wild card spots,
no matter how much they fizzle out. Padres meanwhile, is still interesting. The Padres haven't been
playing great baseball. However, they are playing the Colorado Rockies right now. So you can almost,
you can almost just go ahead and chalk up three more wins for the Padres as we speak.
They are four and a half games up in the wild card at 80 and 67. And then you have those
bums from New York, those bums from Queens, the New York Mets. They are at 76 and 72. And they just
cannot wait. They cannot wait to give the wild card away to some team. They cannot wait to give their
wild card away to some team. So,
They are currently, they have two teams breathing down their neck, the Reds and the Giants, 74 and 72 for the Reds,
74 and 72 for the Giants.
And because the Mets are so terrible, the Diamondbacks are still in it.
The Diamondbacks are still in it.
The Diamondbacks should be closer, but they're still in it.
And that's the craziest part about this whole situation, is somehow the Diamondbacks should be 74 and 74.
but don't even give me start on that.
But there's still three games back from the Mets.
And what's crazier is,
is you just feel like the Mets are going to fizzle out.
Right.
So like the Mets,
they face enough against the Rangers.
And the Rangers are super hot right now.
The Rangers have their own race going on for the ALE West
in a wild card spot.
And they're just playing better baseball, right?
So you have to believe that the Mets might continue to struggle here.
And overall,
they might get overtaken by the Giants before,
by the end of this weekend.
Then the Diamondbacks play the Giants.
next week. That series could literally be for the wildcard spot between the Diamondbacks
and the Giants. That's how even though they blew this opportunity to make up ground in this race,
they're still not out of it because they're not losing ground. The other teams are just making
up ground. And we, I think, want a team that the Diamondbacks still have on their schedule
to be the team that sits in that wild card spot. So right now, as much,
as it sucks to say this, we should almost be rooting for the Giants to overtake the Mets for that
spot. So by the time the Diamondbacks play the Giants, that series means way more. I mean,
it already means a lot. But the Diamondbacks need to take care of business here against the
twins in their final two games, quite frankly. And you believe that they can get it done. You
believe that they should beat the twins. I cautioned everybody coming into this series that,
you know, the Diamondbacks can't, you can't really expect them to even,
sweep a team like the twins.
So hopefully this first game is the one that gets out of the way.
Hopefully this first game is the one they lose.
And they can figure out a way to still win this series on Saturday and Sunday.
Because they need to.
They need to.
And if they don't, you know, that that series against the giants might just be meaningless.
It might not be enough time, enough, like they said tonight, enough outs in this game to make up time.
But I don't know.
let's see el gaio says twins swept the podres they did do that you're right uh but i hope they don't
do that to us we've been terrible historically at that field too that's another thing is i just
can't believe how um bad the diamond backs could potentially be against a twins team that to be
fair isn't that great right um katy may told me to tell that to the bullpen uh there are
there are a lot of things i would like to tell to the bullpen katy if i'm being honest and i'm
probably not allowed to it'd probably get me in a lot of trouble uh i might have to save that for
diamondbacks after dark uh i might have to do a diamondbacks after dark tonight i don't know
i don't know if i have it in me i don't know if i have a fight left in me uh i have declared this
season over so many times for the Diamondbacks that it feels
cliche to do it any longer. I think that most of us feel
like this is not going in the direction that we want to go to.
Yet once again, like this game tonight, they make you believe.
And being three games back in the wild card,
you kind of have to believe because mathematically they are still
in it and they still have a chance to catch up and make up ground.
I don't know why that is even something we would want with the way
this team is playing because I don't know how they would do in the playoffs.
They would even win a game in the playoffs, let alone a series in advance.
I still think, though, that we doubted them.
A lot of us doubted them when they made the playoffs in 2023.
Because of what they did, that is always going to give some of us hope.
Some of you never have hope for this team and probably sleep much better at night than I do.
However, that that 2023 season, I think, is enough to make a lot of us believe that should the Diamondbacks figure out a way to put wins together, especially these really tough series that they still have in front of them, that, that, you know, anything is possible.
But again, still some tough teams outside of the twins that they have to take care of.
And tonight, they did not take care of business against the twins in that first game.
let's see emily williams is demanding that i read her jersey list so she said read my jersey list
that i have in real life since i have held out made emily hold out so long for updating my jersey list
i will read her she has a braves jersey yankees jersey met's jersey padres diamondbacks rangers
dodgers chicago white socks i don't know why you disclose that to this chat uh this this chat
will eat you alive for having those jerseys that combination of jerseys you have a
Yankees jersey and a Padres and a Dodgers jersey, Emily, Emily.
Well, I can tell you love ball.
You love ball.
So I'm not going to give you too much of a hard time.
But Elise says 2023 was an hour outlier.
This is who this team is under Tory.
Oh.
Look, I've made accusations before that Elise was in fact Mike Hazen.
And I think nothing proves more that she's not than her.
stance on the Diamondbacks manager, right? Because if she was my Kaysen by now, she would have done
something about it. But anyway, I don't know. I think that I said it the other day, this,
this, this kind of contradicts and, and I'm going to probably contradict myself, but like,
I still feel like nobody expected, none of us, none of us expected them to be in any kind of race.
And they really wouldn't be if the Mets weren't so terrible. Like the Padres haven't been
playing good baseball and they still have a four and a half game lead on the final spot,
which is a seven and a half game lead on the Diamondbacks.
That's probably where the Diamondbacks should honestly be.
So again, it's the Mets collapse that's giving us more hope than it should.
But that's the reason why baseball is crazy and fun and you can never really give up
as long as mathematically you're not eliminated and you still have a chance to make up ground.
right so it's a weird thing man it's a weird thing here with the with the way that the
diamondbacks have hung around in this but again a lot of that is due to the fact that this team
doesn't uh shouldn't be in it but the Mets are really really bad that's that's pretty much it
let's just be honest so all we can do keep our fingers cross hope that they can win the
rest of this series and uh you know go out
and play well against the rest of the teams on their schedule.
Never know what can happen.
But don't like put hard earned money on this team.
That's all I'm saying.
Don't put hard earned money on this team.
That's just a piece of advice that I would float out there.
I would tell anybody that I'd tell my children that my child.
I only have one, at least that I know of.
But again, we're going to take a quick break on the other side of this break.
We are going to talk about the entire city of Kingman being in shambles over Terrick's

Well, like I said, the entire city of Kingman pretty much takes.
days off to watch Terrick Scouble, who is from Kingman, Arizona pitch,
and Arizona's second favorite Saly Young winner after, of course, Randy Johnson,
Terrick Scubal did leave tonight's game with an apparent injury.
And all I could, my heart just kind of broke.
I know that there's a connection there with him in Arizona,
but the Detroit Tigers are one of the teams that if you wanted to adopt a team that
hasn't won a World Series in a long time,
that's going to be in the playoffs and it's going to be pretty good.
That is a team that would be a fun team to do so.
We here at this show have chosen the Seattle Mariners.
But he did call a trainer out in the fourth inning after like really kind of struggling to get some outs
and was removed from the game with tightness in his left side.
So this is pretty unfortunate for the Tigers.
And again, unfortunate for the entire town of Kingman.
That typically does all go into kind of like a siesta mode on a day he pitches because they
love that man up there in Kingman and this is unfortunate. It's unfortunate for the Tigers. It's
it's tough to see because that's that's a huge impact on their on on their postseason, you know,
play and what could potentially happen in the postseason. Hopefully that's not a long injury,
but he's a frontrunner for the AL-Sai Young after winning it in 2024. So he could go back to
back and you definitely, it would be just devastating to the Detroit.
Tigers playoff, not their chances because they're going to make the playoffs, but for their
opportunity to be a contender and win the World Series, if they lose them for an extended
period of time.
I could only think of when Eduardo Rodriguez missed significant time in 2024 with a lat
injury that started with kind of side tightness, and you hope it's not something like that.
You guys in here are asking, Motor City Montia is a nickname Sean is giving.
me i don't hate that that's kind of that's kind of i'm just saying i don't want to adopt it yet i still
like the mayor but more motor city montia kind of rolls off your tongue uh alice says the decision
to fire or keep tory is not coming from mike hazen it's kens to make and kens alone hazen is too
close to tory to be impartial so basically what alice is saying is she's too close to troy
to be impartial and i get at least i am also too close to tory uh to be impartial uh
Ryan, Sean and Ryan are competing with great nicknames for me as now a Detroit fan.
I'm already Dodger Derek, right?
So, I mean, I might as well be Detroit Derek as well.
This is more of a Arizona kingman thing for me.
I just, I don't know.
I want Terrick Scoobal to come home one day.
And I just keep a very close eye on his career 100%.
Also, like I said, Eduardo Rodriguez did miss some time.
And speaking of Erod, per the bar.
broadcast he took the entire team including the coaches out to lunch on uh for for a meal on the off
day uh and i don't know uh maybe maybe not the bullpen maybe i maybe i wouldn't have taken the
bullpen i don't know especially if you do then what you know now but you do kind of love to
see that right like you love to see edwardo rodriguez um trying to i don't know he was trying to
just have everybody have a good time, right?
Like he was just, I think he was just trying to bring the team together,
have some camaraderie, have, you know, kind of, you know,
give each other a hard time, as he said on the broadcast.
I also thought it was hilarious that Todd Walsh admitted that
Eduardo Rodriguez, like, was very unhappy with Todd Walsh finding out that the team
all had dinner.
And he wanted to know who the little birdie was.
as that told Todd Walsh.
And Todd said he would never reveal the sources,
but then proceeded to say how Blaise Alexander loved his steak.
So we know once again,
Blaze Alexander known snake thief,
known snake napper.
Also is a known yapper, apparently,
because he was the one that spilled the beans on the team dinner.
I just thought in hearing this,
that it was odd that Eduardo Rodriguez wanted to keep it,
secret that they went out to dinner.
Like it sounds like Erod paid for the dinner,
so maybe that's the portion of it that he didn't necessarily want people to know.
Sometimes we do things that we don't want people to know.
Sometimes, sometimes, you know, we help friends out,
and we don't want those friends to know it.
Sometimes we're pulling the strings in the background just a little bit.
You know what I mean?
But also, I think that there is something to the fact that
Eduardo Rodriguez is being paid a tremendous amount of money and could absolutely take his team out to dinner.
And a lot of people are still angry about the performance in return, or at least the return on investment, the ROI there for Eduardo Rodriguez.
However, I am not going to dump any dirt on Erod's name because that man has been outstanding for the Diamondbacks here as of late.
And he does not deserve any shade at all to be thrown his way.
like I said, Erod's vanquished his foes in his last couple of games and has been outstanding
in doing that to some of those guys.
But Diamondbacks do have Ryan Nelson on the mound in game two and then Nebile Krizmott
in game three.
With what happened with this bullpen, I do not love the idea of Krizmott being on the mound
in game three.
But hopefully he'll give the Diamondbacks one of those surprising performances that he's
given them in the past where he can hopefully go out there and at least give them five or six
innings, or at least five innings, six innings would be great. Five innings would be very,
very nice just to help this bullpen out. Meanwhile, Ryan Nelson, who leads Major League Baseball
in games that he should have won that the team blew with seven, he will be on the mound
tomorrow. And you know that Nelly is going to give this team a chance to win. He's seven and three
this year with a 3.480RA. Nabil Krismont, 2 and 0 with a 3.24 ERA. Nelson does have a tough
competitor there and Joe Ryan. And to be fair, Pablo Lopez today is a very, very good starting
pitcher. He has a 2.84 ERA and is 5 and 4 this season for the twins. So this is definitely,
this is a team that, you know, has some good starting pitching. Diamondback saw it today.
They will see it tomorrow. And quite frankly, they just have to win. They have to win.
There's no more, okay, we can lose this series to the twins, which is just another, another.
metaphor for this season because when you go back and you look at some of their series losses,
when you look back at the five sweeps they had, they were not against teams that have above 500
record. They were against teams, quite frankly, that they should beat and they got swept by. They've lost
so many of those games that it's frustrating. It's infuriating. And here we go once again,
when their season is literally on the line, and they have a chance to actually make up ground in
the wild card against an opponent that has a 64 and 82 record coming into play, a minus 85 run
differential was two and eight in their last 10 and has one of the worst starting ERAs and relief
pitching ERAs in the entire league. But hey, don't forget the Diamondbacks bullpen ERA is worse than
theirs, even though there's is 25th. Diamondbacks is like 28th now, especially after tonight's loss.
So not great, not great. We do have a BCSC siding. It's great. It's great. It's great
to see our guy BCSC in here.
I think we got a super chat from him.
He says, I donated and I said it anonymously.
L.O.L. It's Donzel. All right.
I'm just going to call you Donzel from now on instead of BCSC.
He also says, there's no booty on this team.
No bubble cake.
You're going to big body James McCann is in, is in the dugout.
He's right there. I mean, I'm not going to sit there and let you say that about him.
El Gaios says Joe Ryan embarrassed the debacks last year.
Yeah, the Diamondbacks embarrassed themselves last year against the twins.
So that is not great.
Elise says you don't, you mean you don't want to see a getaway day,
phone it in line up on Sunday.
I live for those.
Look, I know it's my office, but I will smash things in this office, Elise.
Just dare me, dare me, test me.
I will hit thing.
It's a rubber bat.
It's not a real bat.
But anyway, I hate what happened tonight.
And I'm sure most of you guys do.
Quite frankly, I hope we're here on Monday,
answering mailbag Monday questions and talking about a series win.
I have my doubts about that.
And I hope the Diamondbacks can figure out a way to turn this thing around.
Because after tonight, I imagine that the morale in that clubhouse is very low.
And they have to come out.
and be very sweaty and sticky for two more games in Minnesota
and try to not embarrass themselves
and try to not completely let their seasons slip away
against the team that's 65 and 82.
So I appreciate you guys so much.
I thank you guys.
Oh, my nips hurt is here.
Let's go.
He wants to know how I feel so about being so handsome.
It's a lot.
It's a lot to deal with.
It's a big responsibility.
And I've been married for a long time.
So it's not easy around here.
It's not easy.
But I appreciate your concern.
I thank you guys all for being here.
You guys are the best.
Bees, you're the best.
I appreciate all of your compliments.
And again, I thank this community.
I told ESPO this yesterday, obviously, with the things that have happened around
PHNX.
It wasn't easy to do the show yesterday.
I kind of dreaded it, especially being.
the first show to go. And they, you know, I actually immediately felt better once we started doing
the show and once all of you guys were in the chat talking about baseball once again after a lot of,
a lot of very unfortunate events went down. So I thank you guys so much for being not only a great
community of people, but for helping me through what I feel like is a pretty difficult time around
here. So thank you guys so much for, you know, your support. And thank you guys.
guys for being here late on a Friday night, even after this team disappointed us all,
because I think we all needed a little bit of therapy, all needed to chat about it.
So appreciate you guys so much.
Appreciate my guy Erriton.
Thank you so much for your help.
You can find him at the best Twitter handle in this company.
It's freckled mamba.
It's incredible.
I am at cap underscore caveman with a K.
Of course, our show is at pH and X underscore Dbacks.
But as always, all roads lead to at pH and X underscore sports.
on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
I love you guys so much.
Like B says, smash that like button before you get out of here.
Again, make sure to keep sticking around.
And again, come back on Monday.
We'll talk about this series.
And hopefully we're all in a much better mood than we currently are because this kind of sucks.
But thank you guys so much for your time.
Appreciate it.
Like I said, it's your most valuable commodity.
Erriton and I can't thank you enough for sharing it with us.
We will see you on Monday, bring your questions, and hopefully bring the cactus light with you that I threw away in the trash.
Hopefully, we'll be talking about a dub then and not this misery that we're currently in.
But until then, have a wonderful weekend.
Have a wonderful rest of your night.
Hope you guys get some sleep and enjoy yourselves this weekend.
Behave yourselves and remember, kids, baseball is fun, but it is so much more fun when your bullpen doesn't absolutely blow it once again in the ninth inning.
