Welcome into another D-Backs trending podcast. It's your mayor of PHNX, occasionally known as Derek Monti, got our guy Damon Dog here. And we are reacting to the news that the Diamondbacks have swept their Silver Slugger Awards. Corbyn Carroll, Geraldo Perdomo, lighted up,

and Cotel Marte have all won Silver Sluggers for 2025. And we just wanted to give our thoughts on that. Obviously, the most important thing here is, is that this man and I don't have to riot now that this has happened. because if Raldo Pardomo did not win his first Silver Slugger there, it was going to be a hard time dealing with this guy in a non-violent way? I don't know. Yeah, it's a good way of putting it, Derek.

I definitely wouldn't have been able to continue on this podcast. No, no, not at all. But we've discussed it, you know, a lot on this pod. Like, I think that Catelle Marte's Silver Slugger was very much a given. Yeah, for sure. There's essentially no chance that you could give it to, a different second basement in an Aussie Albi's heist-like way this time around.

But I think Corbyn Carroll felt very likely to win one. And then Heroldo Perdomo, while on paper, easily was the best shortstop candidate for the Silver Slugger, felt like I think from Diamondbacks fans' perspective, at least mine, that that was one that potentially we could get screwed over on. Yeah, for sure. That was one where the bigger market names and teams in Tray Turner and Francisco Lindor could sweep in, grab that award from Geraldo Perdomo,

who is rightfully the deserving winner, and that we as Diamondbacks fans would then have to, of course, subsequently, riot at the MLB office. Right, right. Pitchforks and Torches. It's the second consecutive Silver Slugger Award for Cotell Marte, who once again had himself a great season. And like you said, it's hard to imagine anybody else at second base winning that.

But more importantly, it's the first Silver Slugger for both Corbyn Carroll and Heraldo Perdomo and we've thrown the stats up there. We've compared Lindor and you know, Geraldo Perdomo and Trey Turner like Perdomo led in most offensive statistical categories and also him and Corbin both had historical seasons, right? I mean, they've done things for this franchise that no player has ever done and I felt like it would have been robbery for them to not win these awards. However, we wouldn't be surprised. We wouldn't be surprised because quite frankly the diamondbacks don't get recognized like this. No, they don't often, but it feels good in this circumstance because these guys are all

rightfully so won these wars. 100%. You know, as Diamondbacks know, all season was very like torturous almost with the offense that we had in the lack of pitching, right? Top five offense and the worst pitching in baseball. Yeah. Yeah. Absolutely.

And you could make the argument that if Gino Swara stayed at the trade deadline, we might be having a fourth silver slugger out of those, out of those nine positions that we're talking about right now, which would have been some feat, right? I mean, that would be it's incredible. That would be insane. But the pitching was so bad. It held this team back, this organization back, and it makes it pretty clear what the season needs to be about, the off season needs to be about all year long is we need to go out there and get pitching and surround these three players in particular with the subsequent pieces you need to win. Well, you, said it best on Thursday's show and that is that it's hard to believe that a team that the core

is these three guys, these three sluggers, Raldo Prodomo, Cattel Marte, and Corbyn, Carol, and not build around it to and find success, right? Really, it's the reason why Mike Hazen has talked about the biggest priority this offseason being pitching because these guys did an outstanding job last year and when you look at that, that like talking baseball or MLB.com graphic where it shows the Silver Slugger winners, the Diamondbacks dominate that graphic, right? You have quite a few Mets on there, I think, I think two Mets, but three Diamondbacks. And with this team finishing the season the way they did and the way that everything went last year, I mean, it's almost surprising to look at that image and see three Diamondbacks honored with this award.

It's just how the season went. And it's the right call. We talked about, you know, Corbyn losing the gold glove to Fernando Tatis Jr. And we went over those stats. It made sense why Tatis won that award as much as we think it sucks and think Corbyn should have won it. But here with the Silver Slugger, it feels like it's a no doubter here that these three guys won. We also know that this is something that we need. I know this is being dramatic, but we just needed a win so bad.

And I feel like this is just something that could really be remembered about how good this team was and could be something, once again, that reminds Mike Hayes and in the front office of how good. good these three guys are and how now is the time to continue to build around them and make this team competitive. Yeah, how good this offense was. Yeah, the offense. The offense was incredibly fun. And I do think that we'll look back fondly on at least this season being semi fun.

I know that it sucks losing late leads, but like it's better than not scoring at all. Well, yeah. You're in interesting games. Yeah, you're at interesting games. But really, as you said, it just, you know, I think we needed the win. after a rough couple seasons, barely missing playoffs. It feels good to get our players recognized as, you know, like being some of the best in the sport because they well and truly are.

And as Diamondbacks fans, I think it feels a lot like we get swept under the rug because of the Dodgers and because, you know, even the Padres are more flashy and the Giants have a lot more of a established fan base and are bigger in like a national perspective way. I think that this is the kind of thing. that feels good for Diamondbacks fans as we're also growing this fan base and selling these players to the people and community of Arizona to go. So we have more D-Backs fans at the games. I think that this is pivotal in making something like that happen because you could say we have three of the best players in baseball and it's the truth. Yeah. And you can market that all offseason long and hopefully

more people from AZ that are Diamondbacks fans will be in the seats next season. Maybe we can convert a few more of those stragglers back over the time. Diamondbacks fans. It's going to be tough after their other team just won. Right. Well, that's really well said. But I will say this also in regards to that, like, these three guys deserve this. And it is one of the only awards where it's not votes. It's not fan votes. It's not a, you know, I mean, like this is just statistically driven. And quite frankly, when you looked at the season that Marte, Carol, and Haldo Pardomo had all three of them deserve to win this award. And that's why we're sitting here talking about them winning.

these awards is because you can't really screw them out of it. I mean, there are some things where, you know, again, like what we've looked at some of the, some of the finalists, right, where their statistical categories kind of are all over the place. One guy leads in one. One guy leads another. Heraldo Pardomo dominated, Corbyn, and quite frankly, even with the weird season that could tell Marte had, he was still the best second baseman in the National League. Maybe not defensively, but offensively, it's hard to argue with that.
