Starting point is 00:00:00 Hello and welcome to another edition of the PHNX Debaks podcast right here on PHNX in the words of our glizzy king Shane himself. Ooh, I'm going to crack a cold one and welcome you guys into a very celebratory episode. I, of course, am your mayor of Ph.NX, occasionally known as Derek Montia. This guy over here, he's the thunderstick. He's also the vice mayor. It's Jesse Friedman. There's a lot to talk about today.
Starting point is 00:00:37 I don't even know where to start. I don't know where you want to start. But there's a lot. Jesse, was that game real last night? You know, was it, was it real? Shane knows it's real. And I'm bringing up Shane a lot because we're going to have Shane on here a little bit later. But Shane had a little sad story when it comes to the Draft King Sportsbook app, which we'll get to later.
Starting point is 00:01:03 this show is brought to you by the by the draft king's sportsbook app. So of course, thank you guys so much for joining us and for checking them out. Jesse, let me tell you. Last night was incredible. Again, I'll do apologies to Shane for his loss on the draft king's sports book. What we witnessed last night was the greatest comeback in Arizona Diamondbacks history. And that comeback may very well have led to manager Tori LaVolo being extended
Starting point is 00:01:33 through the 2023 season today, Jesse. I'm sure that's not it. But, I mean, it's a pretty big win. I bet there's a lot of smiles going on within the organization. It makes it that much more, that much more of a moment to get this deal done. Yeah, maybe an oversimplification that, like, one game is the reason that Tori Lavello is coming back for next year. But, yeah, officially, I mean, so this, this option was already in Tori Lavello's contract,
Starting point is 00:02:02 So the Diamondback who didn't draft a new contract with Tori Lavello. They simply exercised the 2023 option that they had, which is, which there were some questions surrounding the future of Tori Lavello and what the Diamondbacks wanted to do at manager moving forward. You know, anytime a team waits until the end of August to make this decision, you know that they're still sort of looking at their options, right? as Derek dons his in Tori, we trust T-shirt very fittingly on a day like this. But yeah, I mean, I think that what the Diamondbacks have done lately, Derek,
Starting point is 00:02:39 the fact that this team is 20 and 15 since the All-Star break, the fact that a lot of these young guys that we've been talking about for years are coming up and succeeding and showing that they seem to enjoy working with Tori Lavello, that's what the Diamondbacks are looking for in a manager and in a guy who's going to take them to brighter places in the future. And I think Tori Lavello is shown a lot here over the last couple months and what he's been able to do. If you're being realistic about it, you have to look at the roster, the payroll that
Starting point is 00:03:11 Tori Lavello has been given, which he has nothing to do with, and, you know, evaluate him as a manager based on that, based on the circumstances that surrounded last year. And things like, you know, even what we saw last night with Madison Bumgartner, that particular player taking up such a huge percentage of their payroll when what we saw last night in this game and what we've seen pretty much all season is the young guys getting it done, right? And again, Tori Lovela seems like the right manager to be in place for that. The coaching staff, right, that they have surrounding Toro Lovolo seems like the right coaching staff for that exact scenario, for those young guys to come up and, you know, continue
Starting point is 00:03:55 their progress, continue what they're doing. in the minor leagues at a major league level, but continue their development, which doesn't really stop just because you get to the major league level, right? But speaking of that, yesterday was an exciting day, Jesse Friedman. So exciting. So much excitement in the air chase field,
Starting point is 00:04:12 even before the game started. It was Corbyn Carroll Day out at the old ballpark. First thing that we noticed, Jesse and I, was Corbyn Carroll's thoughtfulness in interviews. I have rarely come across a player who, was so thoughtful in what he was going to say in response to, let's be honest, some of these are canned questions that kind of necessitate canned answers. You're asking a guy on his debut like, hey, you know, how excited are you to be here? You know, that necessitates a very, this is,
Starting point is 00:04:44 you know, exciting. That's it. You know, Morgan Carroll is the guy that actually will take time to think, how exciting is this? Boy, extremely. You know, and we saw that in his interviews. It was incredible. He seems like a amazing talent. And I mean, in the grand scheme of things, you couldn't have asked. I, you could have asked for a better debut, but
Starting point is 00:05:09 with what happened, all things considered him reaching base on an error, his first, that's his first time on base. And then a huge hit that was essentially Jesse, the game winning hit, right? Like the one run, put them over
Starting point is 00:05:26 what the deficit that they were in in the greatest comeback in Diamondback's history. And Corbyn Carroll was a part of that, a big part of that. He was a big part of that. And I know the final numbers for his debut, maybe don't pop off the page exactly. It was one for five with that double one. It was all said and done. But you can just tell. I mean, that double Derek came in the biggest spot of the game, right?
Starting point is 00:05:52 It really is. I mean, bases loaded, one out. It was a tie game at that point. And Corbyn Carroll came through with arguably the biggest hit of the night. I know Carson Kelly cleared the bases, the inning prior with a really big double. That was a really big moment in the game as well. But Corbyn Carroll got the hit that put the diamond backs over the top that gave them the lead in a game like you said earlier, that proved to be the biggest comeback win in franchise history.
Starting point is 00:06:19 And Bees makes a great point too. Luis Frius was a big part of this between those fourth and fifth innings. you know, getting the Diamondbacks back in the dugout right away with a really quick one, two, three inning. I thought he looked, he looked really good in the game yesterday as well. But Corby and Carroll, just in that moment, Derek, I mean, just the poise that he showed, it wasn't really a bad pitch. It was like a slider down in a way. And it was lefty on lefty, tough matchup. And he just went with the pitch and stung it into the left center field gap. And it was one of the most memorable moments in Diamondbacks in Diamondbacks history, at least of recent Diamond. Back's history, one of the biggest moments for this franchise that we've seen in a long time. You and I were both there last night. And the crowd wasn't quite as large as we were hoping for, right? It was ASU night. There were very, very cheap tickets available to students. We were hoping to see
Starting point is 00:07:12 a bigger crowd, but 18,000 plus in attendance. It was just a special night from the beginning to the And we met, Jesse and I met Jeff Cirillo, MLB Great, who is a mentor and a big part of Corby Carroll's life. He showed up as a surprise to kind of, you know, be there on Carol's big debut. A lot of history made. We talked about the biggest comeback. It's the first time in Diamondbacks franchise history that they've scored six plus runs in back-to-back innings. Those innings were huge. It was just, it was an incredible comeback.
Starting point is 00:07:47 Jesse, we went from the bottom of the third. and discussing that this team might get no hit to three, three innings later having a tremendous lead in a game that Madison Bumgarner put the Diamondbacks in a hole just from the beginning. And we have a whole segment dedicated to talking about what's going on with Madison Bumgarner. We're going to get to that. But we're going to talk about the good first.
Starting point is 00:08:14 Corby and Carol, yes, like you said, one for five, a double, two runs scored, two RBI. First of all, we both said yesterday, no chance he gets five at bats. Wrong about that. He came very close to his first, the first time getting on base. I think you, me and Tori Lavello all agree that they were pretty quick to pull that trigger on the E4 instead of giving him a single. A lot of that, I felt like a lot of the ball-bobbling and everything that happened with
Starting point is 00:08:44 the defender on that play was Corbyn Carroll's speed causing him to have to rush the throw and get down there and Corby Carroll beat it out. So I hate errors sometimes. And that's one of those cases where it's like the shortstop had to make an amazing play, really in order to get him. But if he didn't, you know, then it's an error. No, I don't, I don't think that. So for me, Corby Carroll, two for five, but the record stands as it is, one for five.
Starting point is 00:09:10 Still, though, I mean, it's what we wanted to see. We wanted to see him step up in a big moment. We wanted to see him play baseball, you know, and, and I mean, not only, was he incredible on the field. I mean, he had a little gaff in right field that you and I both kind of cringed at because it was like the only way he would have made this defensive play was to make an incredible defensive play. And I think you and I both wanted to see that, right? Like you wanted to see Corby and Carol just make a web gem on the first night. And honestly, he would have had to in order to get that out. But it was during a period of time where the Philadelphia Phillies were
Starting point is 00:09:47 hitting, you know, badness and bumgarner very hard. And they were. Can't really be blamed on, on the defender on that particular play. But you just, it's like, again, it's Corby and Carol Day, it's special day. We wanted to see that happen. We wanted to, you know, just have them have that, you know, you want them to go five for five. You want him to have just this incredible mind-blowing day, right?
Starting point is 00:10:10 But he definitely seemed a bit nervous, you know, pregame and things that you expect from any young player getting his debut. I felt like by after the game, though, he, he, he, he's just here. It's, you know, he's just a part of this team now. Another great thing was, uh, him evading Alec Thomas, who tried to get him with Gatorade Bath. Corbyn said after the game that he had his eye on Alec the whole time. He knew what he was.
Starting point is 00:10:38 Yeah. He said he, he said that Alec was basically doing a poor job. He said that Alec was way too easy for him to see. He had an eye on him. I do it was coming. But I mean, again, we talk about last night's victory, just being historic in every possible way. Not only does this give the fan base us,
Starting point is 00:10:57 so many, you know, even within the organization, so much hope for the future with Corby and Carol coming up, this comeback happening, just all of this magic that happened last night, right? But it also secured a winning record for the month of August for the Diamondbacks. And I mean, again, Corby and Carol wasn't the only one that was outstanding, last night. Carson Kelly is becoming a menace, right, offensively, and that's exactly what we want to see out of him. You know, Emmanuel Rivera continues to shine. He continues to produce and be,
Starting point is 00:11:29 I talked to him yesterday because, of course, I'm Puerto Rican and I'm obligated to root and love and cheer for any people that come from my island. But I wanted to ask him how much he likes being here. And like, he gave me the most sincere answer that I've heard since Eduardo Escobar said he would die for Tori LaVullo. He looked at me and said, man, I love it here. And I mean, it's so great to see, right? It's so great to see somebody like that come over in a trade like he was a part of and just love being here. Plus, Stone Garrett, Stone Cold, Garrett gets his second home run. And it was just an all-around exciting night, man. I mean, you talk about Friest, you talk about Carol, you talk about Garrett. Like, what? Like, like, like,
Starting point is 00:12:16 These are the future we've talked about. These are guys that Jesse, you and I were talking about in the preseason being in the minor leagues and being excited about seeing. And now here we are at the end of August, a winning month somehow for the Arizona Diamondbacks. And we are, you know, seeing these young guys be the biggest contributors to the biggest comeback victory in franchise history. You mentioned that play with Corbyn Carroll that was early in the game. It was a Bryce Harper line drive. It was like 113 miles an hour off the bat. And it did show some of Carol's nerves early on.
Starting point is 00:12:50 Like you could tell maybe he wasn't totally comfortable yet. He was still a little bit, a little bit anxious just for, you know, the stage that he was on and being there. He said it all went through his glove when he tried to catch it. Yes. Which I'm going to,
Starting point is 00:13:05 I'm going to guess that Corvin Carroll's not the first guy to feel that way with a Bryce Harper line drive that was 113 off the bat. So, yeah, like, yeah, I mean, I mean, Bryce Harper is just, I mean, it wasn't the only 113 mile an hour liner he had in the game, literally. So, yeah, welcome to the big leagues. Welcome to the big leagues kid. This is, these are the kind of balls that are going to be, they're going to be hit at you now. So he'll get used to it in time.
Starting point is 00:13:32 It's so exciting. But Corbyn Carol Day, of course, exciting, memorable historic day. I really think that we need to make August 29th, just Corbyn Carol Day official going forward. Corby Carroll Day, Jesse, is followed up today by. McKell Bridges Day. And as many of you know, Mikhail Bridges Day was based on an interaction between the Diamondbacks, Mikhail Bridges, who is a Philadelphia Phillies fan,
Starting point is 00:13:56 that started off with him saying basically his account was a Philly's fan page, saying let's bring this back on June 9th. I believe that's when they were playing the Arizona Diamondbacks the next day. The Diamondbacks took that personally. Then they made a bet with McHale Bridges. If they won, he has to show up in a full D-Backs uniform. If the Phillies won, which they did, we are having McAil Bridges Appreciation Day when they come to town in August. So that's what is happening.
Starting point is 00:14:25 McHale Bridges throwing out the first pitch tonight. Jersey, he gets his own churro dog. There's all sorts of benefits to McHale Bridges Day. Let me tell you. But it's his birthday. So happy birthday to him. We're going to have a giant sing-along and a happy birthday for McHale Bridges at Chase Field. And to be honest, of any Phillies fair.
Starting point is 00:14:46 it's the one that I'm okay with doing this for because man I love me some macaille bridges yeah you really can't you really can't not love that guy uh any son's fan i mean it's it's impossible not to love mcale bridges uh we do have media availability with mcale uh later today which i'm which i'm looking forward to he'll be in the diamond back stugout um so so stay tuned on on twitter uh i'm sure we'll have some good some good quotes some good footage that comes out from that so really fun day at the ballpark today with with macaille in attendance meanwhile i'm opting out to go to the weekend with my wife uh a concert that i've had tickets to for three years so that's where i'll be tonight uh but where you'll be is maybe on go p hnx.com reading jesse's wonderful article recapping last

That is unlocked, I believe, for all of you. But if you're interested, if you read it, you like it. You want more of Jesse Friedman. You want more of Gerald and all the other wonderful writers on go

Regardless of your membership status, you will get access to our members-only Discord, as well as members-only discounts over at the PHNX Locker.com. We have to talk about the other half of the game, unfortunately, and part of that is what happened with Madison Bumgardner in his three-and-two-thirds innings pitch, Jesse. Yeah. It's not just that. I think it's more concerning when you look at the last month for Madison Bum-Gardner. When you talk about the month being so positive for the Arizona Diamondbacks otherwise,
Starting point is 00:16:46 Madison Bumgarner really has been a pain point for them and not just for them for himself. This is a man who, you know, obviously has been a huge contributor in the past and really grinding to try to find out what's wrong. You can tell. We've talked about the coaching changes with Brent Strom trying to change not his mechanics, but kind of which side of the bump he was pitching on and a few other things. things. So far, it hasn't worked out. And I think last night was, was, was, was the worst that we've seen him. I don't, I know it's the worst that we've probably seen of him this year, but it might quite possibly be the worst that we've seen of him in his time with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Yeah, he's had some, some rough starts with this team, right? Especially in 2020, there were some pretty
Starting point is 00:17:33 rough starts from Adam in his first year with the debacks. Uh, but this, I mean, this arguably could have been the worst start of his debacks career. It was one of the four or five worst starts of his major league career. If you look back at, you know, his entire career in San Francisco, even the best pitchers have, have the occasional clunker, and he had a few there. But last night was, was among the worst of the starts that he's ever had in the big leagues. I don't know, I don't know where the diamondbacks go from here, Derek, frankly. Tori Lavello was adamant after the game that the diamondbacks will continue to coach him up. They're going to continue to support him and know that he's not a lot.
Starting point is 00:18:08 alone in this and that he's Toro Lavello afterwards said that he's going to figure it out, which, you know, I know Tori is a player's manager and he's always going to stick by his guys in these moments. So no surprises there. But Derek, the guy has an ERA of about eight and a half over his last six starts. Like there comes a point where you just can't keep running this out there every fifth day. And when it's happening with the guy who makes more money than anyone else on your roster, it's unfortunate. I mean, the diamondbacks have a severely overvalued Madison Bumgarner contract on the books right now. And there's not really a clear way out of it outside of, you know, just paying off the rest of the deal and sending him on his way.
Starting point is 00:18:52 I don't think the diamondbacks want to do that. Maybe you try them in the bullpen, although that would be weird for a guy who's been a starter in this league for like 15 years now. There really aren't any great options here. And the diamondbacks are going to have to start looking at some of those tough decisions. some of those tough possibilities of where they may need to take this down the road because it was rough, Derek. I mean, these hits weren't cheap. I mean, it was 11 hits and it felt like every single one of them was, you know, 100, 105 plus off
Starting point is 00:19:23 the bat. He was just getting rocketed all over the place last night. He was completely ineffective. You and I were just kind of looking at each other in awe of the fact that even the recorded out was had an exit velo over 100 miles an hour five of his first six balls hit by phillies had had a exit velo over 100 miles an hour that he wasn't fooling anybody and it just it didn't get any better right i know that diamond back starting pitchers have been able to bounce back this season and i think that's understandably what tori lovela was looking for there like you have a rough
Starting point is 00:19:59 first inning which we've seen but we've seen them bounce back now what we've seen out of out of Madison bumgarner jessie seven earn runs in three and two thirds last outing five earn runs previous outing six earn runs five earned runs in the previous outing five earn runs uh four runs in the previous outing before that four earn runs in the previous running or outing before that we've seen him progressively get worse over his last six to seven outings and what's what the worst part about it is they have been his worst outings of the year it's almost like one outing gets a clips by the next outing for how bad it is.
Starting point is 00:20:38 And this is a guy that in his first, what his first five starts, I mean, he gave up a combined three earned runs in the month of April. This is the man that gave up three earned runs in the month of April, right? So I don't know if, you know, I get it. You know, there's Madison Bumgarner's guy. There's plenty of film on. You're not going to fool anybody. when you've been pitching in this league this long.
Starting point is 00:21:08 Guys like him, Granky, they have to eventually get to a point where their velocity dips and they have to get creative with getting guys out. Baumgartner relies heavily on his location. And after the game last night, he was actually in a kind of a good mood.
Starting point is 00:21:24 Like, let's take this. I didn't help us very much, but it's given up seven in any way helps us when the game I don't do. every time. What was that? Excuse me, sir. But yeah, I think what we saw last night
Starting point is 00:21:45 was a guy who knew that he didn't do, you know, again, he didn't help his team win, but he was happy that the end result was his team bailed him out. His team got him out of it. And who knows if the Diamondbacks would have put up 13 runs without being in that deficit. But what an incredible thing that we saw,
Starting point is 00:22:05 you know, it's just a real, yeah, Brad Johnson says, uh, and like, yeah, I don't know either. I don't know what that was about. Let's not give up seven runs, even if it helps your team come back. But I get what he's saying. Like I guess the metaphor there that he's trying to make to explain that is he's saying he doesn't care about his personal numbers.
Starting point is 00:22:22 He's saying whatever he does, he can be awful. But if the team wins, he doesn't mind being awful if the end result is a win. It's just, come on, man. Let's not, let's not do that. Let's not say we're okay with giving up seven earn runs. like you said though he still owed $37 million and there was a lot of discussion last night on Twitter about if parting ways with him at this point and receiving nothing in return and just eating that enormous amount of money is even a viable option for people and I was kind
Starting point is 00:22:53 of floored by the majority and I know fans can tend to be reactionary I'm reactionary it's all it's what I am that's how you would describe my personality is reactionary but you know there were a lot of people that said, yeah, they're willing to eat that amount of money. I don't know if an organization that has a payroll, just about a little over double that, is willing to eat that amount of money. Yeah, I don't know if the Diamondbacks are there yet. I think there's a point where they could maybe get there. I don't think they're probably there yet.
Starting point is 00:23:26 It'd be one thing if Mad Bum's ERA was like six and a half or something like that. But it's 4.87, you know, and 4.8.7. seven isn't good. But he's not the only... We talked about this. ERA is like batting average. It's not an accurate depiction of what he's been doing lately. We just talked about it.
Starting point is 00:23:44 He gave up three earn runs in the month of April, right? Of course his ERA is going to be terrible now because he has it padded with how good he was early on. Yeah. Interesting. Interesting fact. You want to hear his earn runs for the month of May? Hit me with it. One, two, three, four, five.
Starting point is 00:24:01 In five outings, he went from one earned run. against the Miami Marlins to two earn runs in his next outing against Miami Marlins to three earn runs against the Dodgers, four earn runs against the Cubs and five earned runs against the Dodgers. That's the kind of thing an idiot has
Starting point is 00:24:18 on his luggage. Jesse has the security code. That's from space balls. You don't get that reference. Anyway, regardless of what the result was, Madbom proudly gets our OG's performance to forget.
Starting point is 00:24:34 and I don't have any, I don't have any problem giving him that. I'm sure he wants to forget that and a great way to do so is with our friends at OGs. The Diamondbacks have scored 13 unanswered runs since OpenShirt Derek made an appearance at last night's game. I'm not saying that the two correlate. I'm just saying that's the facts. But you can enter our flavoring life sweepstakes over at go phtnx.com.

And before we also talk about four peaks where Jesse and I will be tomorrow, I'm going to let Jesse get out of here because Jesse has to go talk to Mike Hazen.
Starting point is 00:25:48 So Jesse, go find out how Mike Hazen feels about extending or picking up the option on Tori Lobolo's contract for next season. And of course, let us know how that goes. I will do that, Derek. I will do that. I got a special guest coming in to take your spot. So don't worry. He's the real reason why we won the game last night.
Starting point is 00:26:07 But appreciate you, and I can't wait to see you tomorrow, where we will be over at Four Peaks. Join us at Four Peaks tomorrow for our last Wednesday of the month. Of course, we will all be broadcasting down there on August 31st. Join us at the 8th Street Pub, Coyotes, Betts, Sons, Sun Devils, Cardinals, and of course the PHNXDBACS crew will all be out there. Try Four Peaks in their wonderful variety of beers. And also enter our Four Peaks,
Starting point is 00:26:33 Weepstakes. Get down on it right now because we're naming a winner tomorrow. It's our toast of the month sweepstakes. You can win yourself a $50, $4. Peaks gift card, PHNX shirt of your choice over at the PHNX Locker and a PHNX annual membership. So go do that. Of course, make sure to pick up some four peaks at your local grocery store and enjoy responsibly. Must be 21 years or older. Look who is here. It is the Glizzy King himself, the one and only person. I'm not including Jacob in this. The man that motivated the Arizona Dibembach, so the biggest comeback victory in history. It's the one and only Shane Diefenbach. What is up, my friend? Say it with me, chat. Rally, Shane. Rally Shane. Rally Shane. Shane.
Starting point is 00:27:14 Rally, Shane. Shane and Jacob participated somehow, inexplicably in the hot dog race last night at Chasefield on Corbyn Carroll Day. It was a big day all the way around. And, of course, we had to get down on the festivities. But we do have footage of you participating in that race. Let's cue that up. Oh, yeah. Let's get out. Oh, man. How did it feel? How nervous were you right now? Well, I wasn't because I, you know, I live for the moment. I'm a big time player.
Starting point is 00:27:44 I thrive in these type of situations, as you can see, just kind of getting fired up doing my pregame ritual. Yep. Yeah. Jacob pissing a lot of people off coming out as catch up. That's for sure. I heard, I heard from the stands, one of my friends yell at me before this. I didn't know he was there. So I had to, I had to re-to-pecked them. I had to take off my hat like Derek Jeter. Yeah, yeah, no. And then you got Jacob cheating here, right? See, this is where the teamwork didn't work. And I think that's really, we needed PH and X working together against this small child.
Starting point is 00:28:12 Well, you can see Jacob kind of trying a little too hard at the start of this. And he's really suffering the effects of it now. I just kind of got in a rhythm, kept it cool. You know, I knew I wasn't, wasn't like in the best position to succeed. So I just kind of want to go out there and have a mental victory, you know, and get through it. And yeah, that's what we were. happened so and you looked much better uh than mike bower and in that as u outfit that he has going on there though those colors are are pretty splendid uh mustard came out on top of course um but good
Starting point is 00:28:45 showing good showing i see back there you're a little spent you gave it your all though you left it all on the field and that's what i personally appreciate uh of you as a competitor but more importantly the diamondbacks up to this point still have scored 13 unanswered since that moment yeah much of my chagrin because as I gave out on the vetting show yesterday, I gave out Phillies minus one and a half, but I also took the Phillies to win the first five innings, all just by a run. Something that had never been done in Diamondback's history
Starting point is 00:29:16 was score six runs and two straight innings, and they did that. You just needed one more inning. Couldn't come back, just hold off one inning? So this is exciting. See this hot dog shirt? Yeah. We both got one.
Starting point is 00:29:28 They don't fit. What are they? What size are they? This is like Schwarz, actually. It's a children's extra large. So, Derek, if you want to do some type of raffle on this show with some of the viewers, get a nice D-Backs dog, Circle Cay shirt. Yeah, we got a lot of glizzy luck going on right now, man.
Starting point is 00:29:44 I mean, we got to keep that going. But all right, we'll do that. We'll give that away on Twitter. And, of course, we appreciate you and everything you did for the team. You took one for the team. You sacrificed your own bet for the Diamondbacks team. And we on this podcast can't thank you enough for that. No, yeah, as painful as it was to watch, it was very magical.
Starting point is 00:30:07 DeVax fans deserved that all the way from Corbyn Carroll getting a double to, who was it, Stone Garrett hitting the final home run of the game. Yeah. It was a really fun atmosphere. Yeah. I mean, we were talking about it, but just for the young guys to be doing it, right? These young guys that you kind of talk about in a way, like, almost like they don't exist, like they're a myth, right?
Starting point is 00:30:28 And then they come up. You know, you got guys like Stone Garrett hitting 500 plus. put home runs into minor leagues and you're like there's no way this is a real human being and you know so far we're seeing that and it's just been so much fun to see those young guys being the ones that are contributing so much yeah it's such a good point um because they do they are almost mythical creatures up to right now right um it's such a different thing in the in this sport for baseball is you know you have guys that you hear about all the time they're not just guys you drafted and maybe like one or two years of development like it takes so it takes a while unless
Starting point is 00:31:02 they're really special. Right. And it's strange when they actually come up. They're like, oh, they're actually good, good. They can do this in the majors. We saw that with Julio Rodriguez. Everyone was talking about the 6-4 dude who was just raking for years. And you're like, when is he going to come up?
Starting point is 00:31:19 And now obviously he's one of the faces of baseball. So it's really exciting. Right. And I mean, that's how it's been Alec Thomas, Corbyn Carroll. But even last night, we saw Luis Frias, who's like a guy we've seen throw 104 miles an hour, but at times look a little bit like wild thing Rick Vaughn who can't get it anywhere close to the plate right and for you know these things to be coming together it's just it's very exciting and has just a major league no oh my I don't know I don't know that I can't he surprises me every
Starting point is 00:31:50 once in a while because if it's a baseball adjacent movie he's probably seen it but I don't know I don't know we're going to have to find out I still need to see if he's seen Shawshank Redemption that was his last movie project you know it'll be great is have Jesse not only watch it, but also be a statistician on the games and see. Oh my God. Try to calculate launch angles. Oh, my God. How many pitches hit and missed?
Starting point is 00:32:12 I think that would be fantastic. Yeah, he's with, wiffry and such. Yeah, let's get going on. That's fantastic. Shane, you weren't the only one motivating people because we had, uh, over in Milwaukee,
Starting point is 00:32:24 the Brewer's scoreboard message that was possibly so great. One of the sass, saddest messages we've ever seen. Uh, the message read, uh, during the scoreboard. It read, Mark, your friendship means the world to me.
Starting point is 00:32:36 Let's not wreck it. And I think every man knows exactly what that text message really means, right? Yeah. My man Mark's getting friend zoned on national television right now. On the scoreboard, right? And then you have this tweet from Kristen Yellick, who says, down two in the eighth inning. The dugout looked up, saw this and said, let's win one for Mark.
Starting point is 00:32:59 We got you, man. And guess what, Shane? They did. They did. They did. After almost blowing the leave, they did. Oh, my God. It's so incredible.
Starting point is 00:33:09 I really hope it's just some weird, like, friendship between two work bros and they're like, you know, they're going through a tiff because they're fighting over the same girl. It was funny to put it up there. Yeah. But I'm thinking, I'm thinking it was,
Starting point is 00:33:22 this man just got friends owned. Oh, yeah. No, yeah. Mark, Josh Huntness says, no, we're with Mark because Mark is with us. Yes. We are one with Mark, and Mark is one with us.
Starting point is 00:33:32 but it got me thinking a little bit not only about, you know, that message, but what messages we could have possibly seen on the scoreboard last night that might have inspired the Diamondbacks to win in the fashion that they did. So we have some of those. How beautiful. Yeah. First one, this one, this one's kind of similar, right? Mason, it's over from his horse.
Starting point is 00:33:53 I think that might have been, like that could have been the heartbreaking one that caused Madison to just unravel. He sees this after the first half of an inning. He knows what it's. about. He knows who it's from. It's kind of code, but it's not really like it's overt. Everybody knows who that's about. Right. Crushing. I would say, but this one's a little bit more inspiring for the team. We got this one. Michaela Perkins is waiting in the bullpen cart. Like that's, that's more,
Starting point is 00:34:18 that's more of a threat. Yeah, that's that, I don't know. That's, yeah, that's a little scary. I don't know how well she gets along with a bullpen, but I don't think it's well. No, actually, it's very similar. to when she talks about murder podcast. So basically she uses the bullpen cart to take players away and then we just never see them again.
Starting point is 00:34:40 That's kind of the way the bullpen work. But let's see what we got. That's a really good point, Ease. That is a very good point. I put it on a scoreboard. Yeah, you just text that. Because they really needed
Starting point is 00:34:53 to send that message publicly. Like that message isn't just for Mark. That message is for other people, for sure. Leah, what else we? got two adults just lost to a small child in the hot dog race anything is possible you're part Kevin garnett anything is possible it's possible we got a couple more what else we got if you don't know we'll take his shirt off yes no that's I will I will that's that goes
Starting point is 00:35:25 right with the Michaela Perkins threat these are both threats those are threats and these are that's you got to motivate somehow and we got one more I think what are you doing you're ruining corbin carroll day that's that's very straightforward that's the message that we needed to see on the board yesterday but maybe that's just what they said in in the in in in the dugout tori lovela actually was asked about that like what happens when you're down seven to nothing what's the dugout like and he just said it's very quiet it's very quiet i don't know i'm not sure if you guys talked about this yet but obviously corbin carroll's first attempt at a hit when it was ruled in error.
Starting point is 00:36:04 Not only was that egregious, but the dugout, the reaction from the dugout was fantastic. All of them stood up on the railing and were looking up near the press box and where the scorekeeper is. To see the rule. What are we doing? Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:19 No, after the error, after the error was put on the scoreboard, they were like, excuse me? Yeah. Excuse me. There was quite a weight because. I was actually down taking a picture behind the dugout when or behind the the plate when that happened. And yeah, there was a long delay.
Starting point is 00:36:38 I waited for that ruling. And I don't really like, okay, so, you know, rules for us at games is that we can't cheer in the press box. And that kind of makes you be able to after, after a while, just calmly not react to anything that's going on. I did not calmly react. I think I marched up the stairs yelling horse shit or something like that. the effect. Again, mostly in front of small children, I'm sure, but that's because I love Corbin
Starting point is 00:37:06 Carroll. It was Corbyn Carroll Day. How are you going to rule his first hit an E4? You monsters. Was it Jim Joyce? Was Jim Joyce up there? Yeah, probably. Jim Joyce. Anyway, Shane, we thank you so much for joining us. And more importantly, we thank you for getting into that relish costume and providing us with a memory that will last a lifetime. Of course. Arizona Diamondbacks PR. You need me again. You guys go cold. Let me know. Did they let you keep the costume? No.
Starting point is 00:37:33 I did actually, a little behind the scenes in the tunnel, I was, she, they were like, do you want this shirt? It's not going to fit you. I'm like, yeah, I still want it. We can give it. I earned that shirt. And then she was like, but you're going to need to give the hot dog costume back. And I was like, are you sure?
Starting point is 00:37:48 I thought I was serving out there. And she did, she did say I was serving looks. So make that with what you will. You absolutely were serving looks. Yeah. Thank you so much. Shane, we appreciate you. Our glissie king and tell Jacob, we also appreciate him.
Starting point is 00:38:04 But he's dead to a lot of people for the catch-up move. No one's going to forgive him for that. People can respect relish. All right, man. Thank you so much. Yeah, later. See you. All right.

Starting point is 00:39:10 diamondbacks team go down seven to nothing and have one of my friends bet on that team that was up seven to nothing to just hold that lead through five innings and then for not to come true there was there was there was some delicious irony in that and I really enjoyed Remember, you could get down on the Drafking Sportsbook app, do some live betting yourself.
