Mother fucking Smith. I know we're recording this prior to the finale on Sunday. So there's no doubt in my mind that he's going to make us look foolish in this game. But you can't help but admit how amazing it was to watch this man do what he did last night with a walk off home run. You and I sitting at a bar together, drinking, enjoying ourselves, pretty much riding off the ninth inning and at least had, you know, extra innings to look forward to. But what we didn't know what we had to look forward to was Pavin Smith, proving a lot of people wrong once again. Actually, I take back once again.

I'll just say proving a lot of people wrong in that, at bat, hitting a walk-off home run for the Diamondbacks league leading, MLB leading sixth walk-off home run of the year. Yeah, the Ginger Assassin, man. Doing the damn thing. Doing the damn thing. You know what I can't help but think of is that the Diamondbacks tend to do this thing where they have a lot of, you know, they have a lot of guys that are like Jake McCarthy, right? Where they struggled here.

We see them go elsewhere. They find their footing. And don't get me wrong. It's a lot of people that, you know, that there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's. been plenty of players that haven't gone elsewhere. Absolutely. If another team would have picked Pavin Smith up when he was designated for assignment, we would be screaming and rioting.

Oh, yeah. And burning downtown to the ground, potentially, because he's been actually quite good. Now, it's a small sample size. Yes, yes. Only six games since he's returned to the major league lineup. But Rock, he's hitting 33, slashing 33, 33, 33 on base percentage, 800 slug for a 1.133 OPS. He has three extra base hits, two of which are home runs.

He has four RBI and five hits total in 15 plate appearances. Yeah, Pabin, Mothuckin Smith is an absolute conundrum, bro, because, like, he's had opportunity for opportunity after opportunity. Absolutely. When he got DFA'd earlier this year, I was like, well, that's, that's Pavan's run. And then when nobody picked him up and he went back to Reno. And then when I saw the announcement come through that Pavan Smith got recalled, I was like, wait, what? Like, and I followed the Reno Aces.

So I had seen he had been doing his thing down there. But, you know, you don't know, like, are they really going to give this guy another chance? in the bigs because you got to imagine if he would have not done anything over the past few games they probably either would have just sent him right back down or just outright just said later dog like best of luck to you like we've given you probably more chances than most guys would get absolutely absolutely and and i think a lot of fans would agree with that i think that's why fans have grown tired of pavement that's why fans believe that he cursed this team and he has cursed this team and he has cursed his team merely with his presence.

You know, like I said, he, even before last night's walk off home run, he by far was not the worst hitter on the team. Yes, if you look at his overall 2026 stats, that's different. I'm just talking about the small sample size of since he's returned from Reno. But that doesn't change the fact that the team has performed really poorly while he's been here. And while I don't want to believe ever in things like, curses or that the things I say on this show or write on Twitter can impact a baseball team on the field.

Unfortunately, sometimes the results back up the hypothesis, if you will. And it's hard not to deny that the Diamondbacks have a losing record with Payv and Smith in the lineup, you know, and a lot of that is from earlier in the season. But it's also lately. Lately, this team, when they needed to win the most, have not. We've already called a wrap on this season on the show. And now here they are, once again, being the comeback kids of sorts and giving us hope late that maybe, just maybe,

they have one last comeback in them at the end of the season that would result in them making the postseason. Yeah, it's going to be very interesting to see how today's game goes, and then what happens in Colorado, and then ultimately what happens at the end of next week in San Diego. like we still need to beat the Padres but now it's like we need to beat the Padres so that we can perhaps take the Phillies spot which is now the final and the problem is San Diego just refuses to fucking lose right now yeah yeah I mean the hope there is that perhaps they maybe they continue to win and maybe once again we can focus on the Phillies like we talked about last man at the bar right like maybe we focus on all right we're not going to jump we're not going to jump the shark on the Padres this is not going to happen we need the Phillies to fucking fumble and start losing and we got to just win bottom line the debacks need

to just win baseball game that's all they can do it's just win baseball game exactly they have to keep their head down and they have to win game yeah they can still win this Yankee series again I'm sure they're going to do something to make us look like fools because we post this at night after the game has happened. But still, beyond this series, even if they do lose today to the Yankees, they have a three-game set with the Rockies, and that right there could be the series.

Not a walk in the park, bro. It's not, especially in Colorado, right? But I'm just saying that's the series where they could potentially stack some wins against a Rockies team that literally has nothing to play for at this point and might just, might just want to, like help a purple brother out from the division.

You know what I mean? Like just help us out a little bit by not caring in that game. I'm just saying that's a very easy thing you guys could do. And let's see if maybe we can go in and make it in instead of the Phillies. I think everybody would like to see that, right? Except Phillies fans. Everyone would like to see the Diamondbacks in instead of the Phillies. And the guy to do it, the guy to lead us there.

Of course, Rock, Paving, motherfucking Smith. Pavin motherfucker Smith, man. I mean, hey, all we can hope is that they just go out there and do what they can do. I mean, it's simple at this point. Well, it's not simple. It's not. It's very difficult, apparently, for this team, especially this offense. But if you get guys like Pavin going, Corbyn's kind of been back.

You know, Corbin's been getting some hits lately. Like, man, you know, if you get Cotel Marte performing a little bit better, perdomo's been getting on base decently. Gabby, El Moreno has been great all year. Like, you just feel like if you can get one or two of these other guys hot, that that will be enough

offensively to lead us to the end. Because if you get contributions from guys like Pavin Smith and Tim Tawa and Nolan Aronado, that's just, that's extra. That's the supporting cast, right? And unfortunately, lately, they've been doing it, as we've talked about recently, more than the guy,

that are our big three, our big four, our big five. And that's who we need. That's who we need. We need to tell Marte to go on a run. We need Corby and Carroll to get hotter than the sun. We need Heraldo Perdomo to do everything he's doing. But mostly it would be great to see Perdomo get back to being our risk king as he has very much not been that this year.

No, you're right. You know, it's been a very inconsistent season, top to bottom for this team. When I, especially coming off the season that Jerry had last year, I did not anticipate him having the struggles that he did. Yeah. And he's been, I mean, he's been, he's been good. But if you compare him to what he was last year,

like, thank God Gabby Moreno has been doing what he's doing because that kind of picked up some of the slack because Gabby is absolutely tennis right now. He's one of the best hitters in all of baseball right now. Yeah. I mean, he's, I mean, it's crazy. The dude is a stud, man. And, you know.

Got to hope they can somehow find a way to lock that man down long term. Although I don't know if that's going to be the case. Yeah. I feel like if that was going to be the case, it would have been done already. Yeah, but who knows. Who knows? But what we do know, Diamondbacks have a chance still. They're still alive.
