Starting point is 00:00:00 You are now listening to PHNXD BACs after dark. What a fucking comeback by the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday. I know they ruined my fucking day early on. I know I was I was pumped to watch a little World Cup rock. I was pumped to watch Diamondbacks get the series win over the Cardinals. And it very quickly did not look like that was going to happen after Eduardo Rodriguez couldn't get a, goddamn out in the third inning. And yet somehow,
Starting point is 00:00:44 some way the Diamondbacks pulled off. I mean, essentially, the biggest comeback in franchise history. They've had one other comeback of seven runs before in the past. But like I said on our emergency podcast,
Starting point is 00:01:00 that one win was, it was seven nothing earlier in the game. So technically, this game was seven to nothing in the sixth inning, making it later than that game, making it even more of an impressive comeback, right? But yeah, it was, yeah, I stopped watching for a minute.
Starting point is 00:01:20 Understandable. I was like, damn it, like, I'm not going to let these guys ruin my fucking Sunday. Right. And then I glanced out my phone and it was seven to three. And I was like, hmm, okay, let me put this back on. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:32 And then it was seven to five. Yeah. And then it was seven to seven. And then I said, brother. They got them reeling. The cardiac kids, man. The cardiac kids.
Starting point is 00:01:45 Well, I mean, oh, man. I know it's hard to do this without kicking dirt on Payman Smith's name, right? But. Welcome to Reno, by the way, Paven.
Starting point is 00:01:57 Welcome back to Reno. Welcome back. There was concern on Friday that his return might have caused a loss. There's a lot of things we were looking at that might have caused the loss on Friday. I don't know what happened Friday. I'll tell you what happened Friday.
Starting point is 00:02:13 Yeah, you shouldn't. There was no baseball game Friday. That is one. That is one to flush. When Tori talks about flushing turds down the toilet, that was one that needed to be flushed. However, I would argue that that one game shows that how sloppy they played, they still only lost by a small margin. Right. So I think that there were just so many cases where that was a perfect example to show players how a small mistake can snowball into two run scoring later in the inning, Cattel, or Barrosa getting picked off and then watching Tim Tawa immediately deliver a double that would have tied the game up, you know, late there in that one, right?
Starting point is 00:02:58 But like you said, I'm not talking about that game because as you said, that game didn't have to. And it doesn't exist. We're talking about Sundays come back. Yeah, right. Oh, man, what a fucking comeback, man. Arnato getting hit 1,999. And it couldn't have been a bigger hit with a two-run home run that tied it up at seven. Let me say this.
Starting point is 00:03:19 And I hate, I don't want to be selfish. I'm going to the Wednesday game. I would love to see it happen there. But like, I also want no longer to get to Monday and Tuesday before this. Yeah. Yeah, you're, you're kind of a piece of shit. you're kind of a piece of shit i'm a horrible fan right right yeah i'm not going to argue against selfish yeah oh i mean i i felt selfish today watching this game because as things were starting
Starting point is 00:03:45 to happen i wanted it to happen faster i i like a lot of diamondbacks fans didn't want it to go to extra innings it feels like extra innings has not has not been very kind to the diamond backs oh they're they're okay it's not like it's bad it's not as bad as you think however it just felt like if they went to extra innings and lost, even though they were, even though this game was an L, even though a lot of people, much like yourself,
Starting point is 00:04:12 checked out early on, this was going to be a devastating loss. Oh, yeah. I'd it up. Oh, man. Lost in like extra innings. It was going to be just awful, right?
Starting point is 00:04:23 So the fact that they were able to come through, pull it off with the big Max Kepler walkoff hit, man, it feels like this team got, the rejuvenation they need for the second half they did that that that uh that double play that jerry got on that little bloop that little bloop little blue dude just huge just what's a what a heads up play oh my god that is why i love jerry perdomo yeah like he well and again we were talking about the mistakes they made in that game that didn't happen on friday right but that was a huge mistake by
Starting point is 00:04:57 the cardinals right so you can see how especially when these two teams match up so well against each other. It does almost become the team that makes the bigger mistakes are the one is the one that loses this game. And this one, it was the Cardinals because you could tell they were just in cruise control being up seven to nothing and probably didn't see the Diamondbacks, especially a team that has struggled awfully like they have all year long,
Starting point is 00:05:23 cruising up on them and pulling off this kind of comeback. Yeah, unreal, unreal the way these guys did not give up because they very easily, could have packed it in down seven in the six they could have been like all right cool but no chipped away chipped away and i'll tell you do i mean you're not you're not going to score six you just got to get get a couple here right get a couple of you know play good baseball and i mean shit man and that's what they ended they did got a love a sunday walk off i still love the fact that when you look back on it right you have um right no no big home runs besides
Starting point is 00:06:03 Aronados. That made the comeback happen. Like Aronados was amazing. Don't get me wrong. But you know, when you look and you see how many runs scored due to walks when they loaded the bases. Two, right? You got Perdomo walking with one out in the sixth and that
Starting point is 00:06:19 loaded the bases for Moreno who walked in a run to make it seven to two at the time with two outs. Locklear walked and walked another run in to make it seven to three. Right. But then you also have, you know, again, Tyler Locklear's single to get on base with two outs in the eighth inning to get Aronado up to the plate. And that brings me back to the aforementioned conversation about
Starting point is 00:06:42 Pavin Smith. And this is not to just attack Pavin. As I said on the, you know, postgame show that we did. This is to attack their entire production at first base overall and D.H. And that is anybody that wasn't Vargas in the month of April. It's just been kind of this black hole, right? So you have, in one case, Locklear, who just got here, walking in a run in one inning, which is pivotal and huge in this comeback. But, you know, his ability to single there with two outs and the eighth and get himself on base for Aronado, who came through with the home run, that's how the game gets tied, right?
Starting point is 00:07:25 So, you just, I mean, when when you look back at, there's struggles with production this year, the biggest problems have been having guys in their lineup, hitting below 150, and being practically, you know, automatic outs. Yeah. And it seems like with this influx of these younger guys and the tinkering that Tori's been doing, you know, putting Tau in the nine hole on, I think it was Saturday or maybe about Friday, you know, just doing what he's doing to like try to give this team the best. best chance in the best situation when these situations come up.
Starting point is 00:08:02 And timely hitting, man, it's not someone we get a lot of around here. I hope they improve at it because there's still a lot of missed opportunities. We shouldn't be in some of the situations we're in. But, you know, it is what it is. Hopefully this series is going to be the momentum this team needs to really kick it in gear, man, because these next couple weeks kind of dictates if we're going to be excited going into the playoff race or if we're going to be like, damn, here we go again. well i'll tell you max kepler can't say enough about max picking him up and having him come through in this
Starting point is 00:08:37 big moment it was his first walkoff hit since he did it uh for the minnesota twins against the phillies on july 24th two thousand and twenty four so nearly two years to the day last time that he had a walk off hit man that one was a single uh that scored uh scored uh scored the winning run. This is a big one. This is a big one for a lot of reasons. I mean, the wild card race being as tight as it is. This also ensures that we have the tiebreaker over the Cardinals if it comes to that at the end of the season. And I would like the Diamondbacks to have every possible card in their pocket if that happens to come because I do not want what happened last year to happen this year. Also, I hate to put it so bluntly, but
Starting point is 00:09:29 fuck the Cardinals. Yeah. You know, for this whole fiasco where in about a week and a half or so, the Diamondbacks have to turn a three city road trip into a four city road trip just to stop by stupid ass St. Louis and play a baseball game against their dumbass team. And this all been resolved. Is it this Thursday? I think it's this Thursday.
Starting point is 00:09:49 I think you're right. It is this Thursday. You're right. I was putting it out further. I think I thought it was 10 days out. Or Las Vegas, whatever the fuck they're called now. They should have a day off on Thursday. And I don't now either.
Starting point is 00:10:01 You know? Oh, yeah. You got to work too. Bastards. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:05 The Cardinals, they screwed the Diamondbacks over, but more importantly, they screwed me over. And you think I'm going to let that go? The debacks have to play a day game Wednesday, which I'll be at, which is going to be fun. And then hop on a plane, fly to St. Louis. And play a two o'clock game there. To get ready for a day game. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:24 All because the Cardinals. So hard. Cardinals didn't do the right. thing. Yeah, fuck them. I still, I still want to know whose fault that is, but I don't feel like Major League Baseball would have had a big problem with that change of schedule. I think Major League Baseball would prefer to keep things on time as much as possible, right? This would be like, because it causes, I mean, because I mean, at that point, I think it's a it's got to be a money thing for everybody involved. Absolutely. Because you're sending fans home
Starting point is 00:10:53 that aren't going to buy concessions. They're not going to buy this, this and this. Like, how about? And you got to. I'm back. How about the Diamondbacks having to make an extra trip to St. Louis and the amount of money that cost for them to stay in another hotel for another goddamn night and all of that? When they could have just bumped the start time up by three hours and they would have had the fucking baseball game played. And not only that, but it was a game once again that we knew was going to be rained out since like Monday of that week. It wasn't like a surprise at all in any way, shape, or form. No, they just chose to be all the bad things in the world happened to the card. They chose to be assholes about it.
Starting point is 00:11:26 Right. I hope this loss is devastating to them. I hope it causes their season to spiral wildly out of control just due to the fact that they lose all confidence in their ability to retain leads no matter how big those leads are. Meanwhile, for the debacks, I hope it has the adverse effect. I hope that this franchise record tying comeback gives them the confidence to know that no lead is too big. no deficit is insurmountable, and this team is special. But I'm still very worried about Corbyn Carroll. I was actually about to say, like, as happy as I am, they got that win today.
Starting point is 00:12:07 There is a kind of a, there's a part of me as a mildly concerned. Of course. I mean, Corby Carroll already looked like he was having an issue with his shoulder or something prior to this. He was having a real hard time, obviously, as many people know, hitting a high, basketball and according to nick piccoro corbin carroll hyper extended his right elbow tori lovela said he said that carol is day to day so that's where we sit as far as corbin carol is concerned sit corbs tomorrow maybe let's maybe let corbs have a day get him some treatment i mean i don't want him going out there if he's not if he's if he's at jeopardy of of making it worse swinging that bat
Starting point is 00:12:50 I don't want him out there. It just sucks because it's yet another injury. It's another injury. Yeah. They needed him. But I will say, I will say that his struggles lately, I know he hit that home run in Friday's game that didn't actually happen once again. So I don't know if that happened. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:13:09 But I will say that that was his first home run in a month. And, you know, again, he has been struggling, man. And so again, getting him right, it would be a priority. And maybe whatever he was feeling, whatever was ailing him, wasn't enough for him to miss time. But this is. So perhaps it's a blessing in disguise because it gets him off of his feet and allows him to maybe recover and get back to 100% health. Still not a lot of time, though, for this being to kind of find. And it's a bummer, too, you know, because they were talking so much about how Friday, how he didn't take time.
Starting point is 00:13:49 after the All-Star break. He came back to Phoenix, going right back to work. Yeah. It was practicing. He was hidden. Because he knows. You know?
Starting point is 00:13:56 So he's putting in the work and doing everything he can, and then for something like this to happen, he just got to hope it's not a serious thing. And then I didn't see the, I saw he was put on the IL. Is Lordy 10-day 15? Did they,
Starting point is 00:14:11 it's a 10-day I-L. 10-day, okay. Yeah. So. Do we think Lordy's, do we think Lordy's, kind of on the tail end of his career at this point with that knee injury because I don't I don't know man I mean I mean on the other side he came back faster than most players come
Starting point is 00:14:29 back yeah so makes you wonder yeah it really does and again it's kind of like the Corbyn thing are you doing too much are you working too hard baseball is a game that has built in breaks on purpose yeah and that's because it's it's it's a grind it's a 162 game grind plus postseason, plus spring training, plus camp, plus this, plus that. And I think if you don't take that time off, right, there's a good chance that those injuries and those, that fatigue is going to catch up with you.
Starting point is 00:15:03 And he's such a, like, high intensity guy. He has one speed. Like, he doesn't, he's not, he's not trotting. He's sprinting. So he's going 110, every play, every at bat, every, you know, So, yeah. He wouldn't let a pandemic stop him from going and hitting BP at a high school field, right? So this is a man that is relentless.
Starting point is 00:15:26 Yeah, I'm going to. And I don't know what the Diamondbacks are going to do without him. You know, like this, this, this injuries, this pile of injuries is getting too big. And the roster depth is getting too thin. It's just, it's, it's just something you got to cross your fingers that he doesn't miss significant time. Yeah. Hey, we also, I mean, we got some positive news, though. I mean, Ryan Nelson's throwing it. I mean, Ryan Nelson. Hey, that's something that I did not think. I did not think we were going to see Ryan Nelson this year. I thought he was done. Especially when you start hearing second opinion and all of that. We're hearing that with Zach Gallen right now. You always fear the worst because nine times out of 10, hell, nine and a half times out of 10. It goes in the direction that, he got a second opinion because he's going to have season ending Tommy John surgery that shuts him down for a year, right? That's what we're. were almost expecting to hear for both of those guys. Ryan getting into a throwing program is fantastic.
Starting point is 00:16:22 And if he can make it back before the end of this season, if Corbyn Burns can be back before the end of the season, he's also started his throwing program. You feel like things could take a dramatic turn for this team. If there's no other reason for the front office to hold out hope besides the fact that this team right now has 51 wins and 48 losses on July 19th, is that not only can they make moves at the deadline to help this team become a true contender, but there are some serious reinforcements still waiting to return on the other side of August,
Starting point is 00:16:58 late portion of August and September. Might be too late, but you know those reinforcements are coming. And if you're on the fence, that has to be enough to push you in the direction of being a buyer, wins like this have to push you in that direction to. even when they had Jerry, when they had Jerry miced up on with it Saturday on his Bobohead Day, and he was talking about, you kind of, you know, mention them being fired like, bye, bye, bye, bye, bye, bye. Hell yeah. I love it.
Starting point is 00:17:27 I love it. You got some TV time. You got a mic in your face. It wasn't just about a post game walkoff hit. Use that TV time to send the message to the front of it. I love him for that. I'm going to get this off. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:17:42 What a guy. Yeah, no, I loved it, man. So I'm just I'm hopeful that Hayzen and the and the boys I'm hoping the boys do their part and in turn I hope Hayes in the front office does their part at least give us you know give us a shot. The vibe's got to be off the fucking charts got to be this one got right. So taking on a an Oakland athletics team slash Sacramento athletics slash Las Vegas athletics team. Yeah. That has lost nine out of their last 10 games. I mean, you got to take care of business. You do. In the biggest kind of way, right?
Starting point is 00:18:19 Like, I'm not, I don't usually go into a three-game series talking about a sweep is necessary. A sweep would be amazing. Amazing right now. And with the way this team is playing, there should be no excuse that they shouldn't be able to come out and put it to the A's. Yeah, at minimum, I mean, at minimum, they should take two or three. Absolutely. And it should not go any other direction. There should not be a one-win, two-loss series, or they should not get swept.
Starting point is 00:18:47 They need to handle business. If they do, I'm not going to say, oh, that's the end. But, man. It hurts. Yeah. And if I'm Mike Hazen, I'm probably frustrated to no-ed if that's the outcome of the series with the athletics. Because right when you think, you know, essentially not losing three series in a row here against the Padre, sweeping the Dodgers and now winning the series against the Cardinals, it's hard not to think of
Starting point is 00:19:16 this team as being a winner and a contender that just needs, just need some power added to it, needs a few arms back from that injured list. And it can be a completely different team altogether. It's going to be a wild ride, man. It's going to be a wild ride. God damn, it's fun, though, isn't it? Hey, I've been like, you know, you know, I'm a huge, huge, like, hip-hop head. And I've been in my head, I'm like, what do I love more? Hip-hop or baseball? And I can't answer that because I love this game. Like, this game is like everything for me.
Starting point is 00:19:53 I love this game. I think hip-hop is an expression of how we feel and it's like a connection, plus it's music. So music always kind of makes you feel good. Even a sad song can make you feel good. And, you know, it always has connections to memories. times we were hanging out with our friends movies we've seen i got that with baseball too though i got a lot of baseball too but i think with baseball it's the emotional ride that we all go on as fans with every single team throughout this season the the ups the downs the we're backs the it's over so many
Starting point is 00:20:35 right backs every single team wants their manager fired every single team thinks their fucking medical staff is incompetent every single team is you know the going to win the world series and every single team is the worst team in baseball and that is just that is the emotions that we go through throughout the season and we think that it's just us and then you find out that there's a fan base that loves the same team that we do that that we all go through it together but then you find out holy shit it's just all of us baseball fans we're all going through this and it's just again the roller coaster ride of emotions that is the 162 game season i just think that it even the losses make you feel stuff oh yeah and and at at our age rock it's hard to
Starting point is 00:21:30 like have things move you emotionally even if that emotion is anger or sadness or disappointment it still just makes you feel and feelings make you feel human and that's why baseball is just the best man it's just always there making you feel feelings throughout this long-ass season it's you nailed it man it's also uh we're also back by the way we're more so bad than we've ever we're so fucking back we've never been this goddamn back you kidding me never in our fucking So we've been this back. Never been this back. Anyway, we love you guys.
Starting point is 00:22:12 Thank you guys so much for your time. Of course, you can follow us on social media. I'm at Kp underscore Kman with K. He is at Rock Knowledge. That's RO Knowledge.
