Hello and welcome in to another edition of the PHNX D-Backs podcast.
I'm not sure if you've heard, but the Arizona Diamondbacks are in fact a wagon.
My name is Derek Montia, formerly known as your mayor of PHNX, but I'm getting that goddamn title back.
There's no Mr. Electric with us today, which is part of the reason why I'm renegotiating that whole contract.
But this guy next to me, still my vice mayor.
Still the Thunderstake, Jesse Friedman.
Tommy Henry was pretty good today, Derek.
And the Diamondbacks won again, and they've got a big series coming up against the Giants.
But this weird one-day road trip to Washington, D.C., not only did they get a win out of this trip,
but they also got a sports center appearance last night.
That was pretty crazy.
Big 24 hours for the Arizona Diamondbacks.
If you haven't had a chance to check that out, go to our Twitter account and make sure to check out.
that clip from them appearing with SVP on Sports Center.
But more importantly, like you said,
there's a lot of things to be happy about when it comes to today's win.
It only took three weeks for them to complete the three games sweep against the Washington Nationals.
They were going to do it, Derek.
They were set on doing it and it was going to happen, and they did it.
But this was actually a really good game for this team,
considering that they kind of needed a couple of things.
One, they needed to go, this game to go by quickly.
And two, they really needed some length out of starter Tommy Henry.
And I know it's the Washington National, so you're not going to get super high on Tommy Henry's outing.
But at the same time, he was outstanding for the Diamondbacks today.
And he was exactly what they needed.
He gave them six and two thirds, almost seven innings of work, seven hits.
He gave up one earn run, one run, one walk, five strikeouts.
And he was just, he was out there doing business.
And I think the biggest thing about this for the Diamondbacks was how much they were able to save their bullpen.
And they also kind of had a close call there.
there at the end, which we will talk about. But let's talk about Henry and how good he was.
Yeah, six and two-thirds innings is huge. And that's something that we have seen with Tommy Henry is,
you know, he does have shaky outings every now and then. But when he's having one of his better
outings, he's able to get pretty deep into some of these games. And this has been a good week for the
debacks from that standpoint. You got seven innings from Merrill Kelly on Monday. You got five
innings from Ryan Nelson on Tuesday, seven innings from Zach Allen yesterday, and then six
and two-thirds today.
So really, ever since Zach Davies start on Sunday, which obviously didn't go particularly
well, hopefully he's able to bounce back tomorrow.
The debacks have had a really nice run here through their rotation of getting some length
and really saving their bullpen and giving these guys a much-deserved rest.
As you mentioned, Joe Manciply was not great in this game.
Who broke Joe Manciple?
What happened to Joe Manciple, Jesse?
I mean, today he was thrown 88 miles an hour and it didn't really like,
the warning bells were going off for us immediately.
Yeah, he's not really walking guys.
Same as last year.
That continues to be a strength for him.
But his stuff is a little bit down this year.
His sinker averaged 88.8 today was as low as 87.5, which is, you know, I mean,
Joe Mantipa is not a power pitcher.
But if you have a reliever coming in, throwing an 87 mile an hour sinker, that could be a problem.
So hopefully his stuff ticks up.
And, you know, he's been through a couple of injuries this season.
It's been sort of a long year for him, even though he hasn't pitched in that many games yet.
But yeah, I mean, you know, I think a few weeks ago, you felt like the debacks had this wealth of arms in the bullpen that were left-handed.
And now it's kind of at the point where Andrew Chafin is the only lefty out there that you maybe feel all that good about with Mantiply and Nelson's struggling as they have.
It's just a matter of like consistency, obviously, but like with Joe Mantiply since returning from injury, I might be, I might not be giving him credit.
But have we really seen Manipli be effective since returning from the injury?
Because I feel like we haven't.
Am I missing an outing there?
Yeah, I mean, I think he's been okay.
I think he's been okay.
Like I said, I mean, you know, he came in with a 4.05 IRA 13 into third innings.
He'd only allowed 11 hits, only one walk compared to 10 strikeouts.
So I wouldn't say he's been a disaster or anything.
But frankly, what we saw last year from Joe Manciply was unprecedented.
I don't know if it was fair to necessarily expect him to do that again.
If you go back to 2021 and years prior,
Joe Mantis Apply was not that good of a,
not that good of a Major League reliever, right?
I mean, last year was his first really full season in the majors
at the age of 31.
And, you know, a lot of that came from a first half of a season
where he somehow just, like, didn't walk anyone for three months.
And then in the back half of last year,
you kind of saw him struggle a little bit.
maybe become a little bit more of the picture that we probably should be expecting moving forward.
At this point, though, the Diamondbacks do have somebody that they can rely on.
I'm not going to get up.
Do we have to turn the lights off again there?
I'm not going to shut the lights off right now because he already did that.
And that's Scott McGuff.
Scott McGuff continues to be outstanding.
There is nothing sexier than a scoreless inning.
Dingers, whatever.
Chest hair, that's cool.
Scorless innings, that shit is hot.
That's what makes him a local sex symbol.
This man is on fire right now, and he is at, like, today was a perfect example.
This game seemed far out of reach.
This was put it in the old deep freeze.
Put it, put, you know, put the nails in a coffin.
Shout out Al McCoy, right?
But then it wasn't.
It's suddenly in the bottom of the ninth, due to Mantiply, giving up that home run.
It's a 5-3 game.
It's very easy for that to fall apart.
We've seen the bullpen fall apart.
And for Lovolo to be able to go to someone like McGuff,
instantly, like a tool out of a box and just be like, we need this shit to stop right now.
That's exactly what Lavello has needed all season long.
It's great to see them have somebody.
The only problem like that, but the only problem is that sometimes Lvolo tends to use those guys too much.
I'm sure he had no plan on using McGuff today, especially with this San Francisco giant series coming up.
But it was kind of a necessity, especially with this series coming up.
I mean, you have no idea how it's going to go in San Francisco.
So you need to make sure you don't lose this one.
game that could easily have gotten away from you there in the ninth inning. Yeah, the D-backs
bullpen being well-rested going into San Francisco is huge. I know some people are talking in the
comments about both Zach Davies and Ryan Nelson going in that series. Oh, that's terrifying. We'll talk
more about the matchups there later in the show. But yeah, the D-backs might need to tap into their
bullpen a little bit while they're there. Yeah, I mean, at the end of this game, I was reminded of the last
series finale between the Diamondbacks and the Nationals early this season. It was a game that Diamondbacks
led seven to three going into the final few frames and the diamondbacks lost this game nine to
eight. The national score two in the seventh, one in the eighth, and then three in the ninth against
Miguel Castro to complete a pretty dramatic comeback. Tori Lavello was having none of that today.
He went to his his best reliever, which right now for this team is Scott McGuff. And yeah, I mean,
you know, it wasn't, it wasn't, you know, two thirds of an immaculate inning to finish this game.
was still, you know,
still impressive stuff from Scott McGuff.
Oh,
he was all over the place,
but he's,
he's able to get the job done,
and that's what he's been able to do
recently very well as of late.
This game had a time of game of two hours and 33 minutes.
For a while there,
we thought we might see like a two hour and 10 minute game,
potentially.
Neither team looked like they wanted to be there today.
But speaking of managers,
Dave Martinez absolutely looked like he didn't want to be there.
He was ejected from this game.
And his subsequent rant,
His rant in general, I don't even understand what exactly was going on.
There was a funny video of Dave Martinez coming up to the Diamondbacks players
and telling them all to watch what they say because there were so few of people in the stands
that he was going to be able to hear them clearly.
But the umpire apparently had no problem hearing Dave Martinez clearly from the dugout.
It was Doug Eddings.
And Doug's actually kind of not like a super reactionary guy at times by I think he told,
I don't know.
Did you have a better audio on that while that was going on because our audio was quiet?
My understanding was he told the dugout to stop chirping at him about the strike zone,
and then that's what caused Dave Martinez to come out.
Yeah, I think there might have been some inconsistency that he was arguing with.
I believe Tommy Henry got a called third strike shortly before that moment that was not a strike, to be fair.
Oh, Doug Edding was terrible today.
He was terrible today.
He was a little bit inconsistent.
And so, yeah, I think Dave Martinez was kind of more pointing out that inconsistency than anything else.
And yeah, Doug Eddings, as you said, was not particularly good in this game.
But, yeah, I mean, if you had the broadcast audio turned up, you could hear loud and clear.
Everything being said.
There's no need for a John Boy breakdown here because we all know exactly what was said in this altercation.
But, yeah, he got his money's worth, Derek.
I mean, you got to hand it to Davey Martinez.
If you're going to get wrong, you might as well go out there and, you know, give, I don't know,
what the attendance was for this game, but it was not particularly high.
Give the 3,000 people or so that showed up to Washington, D.C.
Allegedly 13,251.
I don't know.
I don't know if I made it.
Does that count how many tickets they sold?
The team, the broadcasters.
It counts every cameraman in the stadium.
It counts everybody, Jesse.
I don't know.
I don't believe there were that many people in the area in D.C.,
let alone in that ballpark.
But he put on a show for them.
My God.
Make sure that they came out and they got some sort of entertainment value.
Talk about theater.
Talk about dinner in a show.
My man got down on his belly.
What was he showing him?
What was he showing him on his belly?
What was the point of that?
Was it a viewpoint?
Was he trying to like show him how far the ball was outside of the strike zone?
I don't even know what the crawl was about.
But man, I found it to be delightful.
I feel like Tori had a chance to really see what like his full potential is as a manager.
Next time he needs to go out there and give a rant.
I like, I thought they like take cues from each other.
Like, oh, I'm definitely going to do that next time.
Oh, shit, that's good.
I'm doing that.
I am doing that.
Oh, man.
But, you know, the Diamondbacks offense, again, did enough.
Corbyn Carroll inexplicably scored from first on a single.
Yeah, technically they did charge an error, but it was a pretty slight bobble by Derek Hill in center field.
And Corbyn Carroll just scored anyway, and it wasn't particularly close at the plate.
So, Corbyn Carroll makes you make bad plays.
So, like, you can't charge guys with errors all the time just because Corp.
Corby and Carroll's making people fall apart out there.
He's going to do that.
He's going to do that to people.
Also, Catell Marte had a three-run bomb that put this game out of reach.
And let's be honest, with the way this game went,
Cattel's three-run homer was the difference maker there.
The Diamondbacks might be looking at a three-two loss.
I don't know if he would have gone to Mantiplied there in the ninth inning.
Should they have just a one-run lead?
But still, looking back on it, this could have been a disastrous game.
And thanks to Cattel and his offense, it was not.
But yeah, like I said, nobody really wanted to be here.
There wasn't anybody that really for the Diamondbacks, I mean, particularly stood out.
Pardomo was two for three with a run scored.
He also walked twice.
So Pardoma was very good.
Goreal, back on track a little bit.
He was two for three as well today.
And Carson Kelly, two for four.
So we got to give credit.
Offense, big offensive day kind of on a boring day where not so much was generated.
I will say this, though.
We have to give our king snake to one man and one man only.
And of course, it's Dave Martinez.
Dave Martinez absolutely gets it for that one epic rant.
Right.
Look at the man down on the floor.
What is he doing?
Yeah.
And look at Doug standing over him.
It's almost like in this image that he's getting, like, actually taking the advice.
Like, what are you seeing down there?
Oh, I do see what you're talking now.
On second thought.
I think Alex is right.
He's probably just trying to like show him like that, like I would have had to be this low to the ground to think that that was a strike.
Yeah, yeah.
Maybe that's the case that he's making there.
But yeah, this shot, I mean, you could, you could absolutely frame that.
Hang it in a museum.
Yes, absolutely.
That belongs in.
That belongs in the Oval Office.
Yeah, right.
Yeah, people don't know phrases around here.
But anyway, it was a fun game.
And, of course, the Arizona Diamondbacks get their 46th win of the season.
Still mind-blowing to me that the Diamondbacks are so close to their, they could reach to their win total from 2021 before July.
They technically could, and that's just my.
They only have to go 7 and 79 the rest of the way in order to be better than they were in 2021.
Fingers crossed.
I think we're going to get there.
I think we're going to get there.

PHNX family today. We won't
leave you. We won't abandon you.
We won't forget about
you the way that Bally Sports might abandon the Arizona Diamondbacks because I don't know
where we're going to be watching Diamondbacks games come July 1st. This situation between
Bally Sports or their parent company Diamond Sports Group and Arizona Diamondbacks has taken a turn
for the worse or depending on how you're looking at it, maybe a turn for the better. I don't
know. I feel Jesse and I were discussing a completely different situation, but we were talking about
sometimes even if it's bad news, you'd rather know. It's better to know the answer is yes or no.
rather than sit here in a limbo waiting and trying to figure out what's going to happen.
I know there's a lot of Diamondbacks fans out there that are concerned about how are we going to watch Diamondbacks fans or games should Valley Sports go away.
That is still to be determined.
But as it stands right now, per Daniel Kaplan on Twitter, Diamond Sports Group, owner of the Valley Regional Sports Network,
has filed in bankruptcy court to reject the Arizona Diamondbacks TV contract.
That means it is walking away from the deal.
He said he's going to provide some more information later today.
this is a developing story.
But according to Daniel Kaplan, June 30th is the last day
Bally's would broadcast an Arizona Diamondbacks game.
It's pretty crazy.
It's happening, Jesse.
Yeah, it's something we've kind of suspected for a while.
Obviously, there was the ruling from the judge earlier this month
that basically required the Diamond Sports Group pay the full amount that they owe.
And so at this point, Diamond Sports Group has basically said, you know,
that deal is that deal is not possible.
are planning to reject that deal.
We don't want to pay that much.
But we all are also told that the Diamondbacks and Diamond Sports Group are in the process of
potentially renegotiating something new that would allow this partnership to continue
into the future.
I personally am a little bit skeptical of that at this point.
It seems a little weird that, you know, you cut a deal and then one side decides that
they want to reject that deal in their bankruptcy filing.
and then you're going to like give them an out and renegotiate something new.
I don't know if I see it.
It kind of feels like this is headed in the direction that it's gone for other teams,
which is basically to just have Major League Baseball step in and broadcast these games.
And as you said, we now have a date on that.
It seems, it appears that that would be happening June 30th, I guess being the last broadcast.
So maybe July 1st would be the first day that Major League Baseball would officially take over.
And then we put that tweet up.
We have the tweet from Gambo.
And this is, you know, his explanation for it.
He says, he says, if the judge agrees, he can accept or reject.
There will be a date in the next week or so,
and Bally's will stop broadcasting Diamondbacks games,
and MLB will take over.
That date we now know would be July 30th.
He says Diamond Sports is still trying to negotiate a directly,
directly a new overall agreement with the Diamondbacks in which they would get digital rights
to go along with the alluding rights.
Two sides are in discussion on this.
Now, the only reason why that would be beneficial to the Diamondbacks is we know that
Once Major League Baseball takes over, they are only guaranteeing teams 80% of the contract that they were promised by Valley Sports.
So in the case that maybe this new deal not only gets the Diamondbacks the full amount that they're owed, but maybe even additional amount, then I could foresee that being the case.
Also, the Diamondbacks really, I don't know if they're internally we don't know because they're not obviously sharing with the media how they feel.
But it feels like they kind of just want to maintain the status quo.
It feels like they don't want to go through this big change.
And the Diamondbacks seem to be very agreeable with Balli in regards to trying to make this deal continue in some way.
Right.
But here's the thing.
I saw it in the chat.
I think Easy Sports Girl said it with her gorgeous avatar that she has.
But where do we watch Diamondbacks games?
Where are we going to watch?
Great. Where do we watch them?
They are still going to be on TV.
They are still going to be widely available to you the same way that they are now.
I think the channel might change.
The channel might change.
Like, for instance, the Padres, they're on DirecTV 694-3, which I believe Ballet Sports was 694-1 and dash 2.
The way it is on DirecTV here is 690 or 686 or whatever, 686 and then dash 1-2 for the alternatives, right?
So I think, and then Cox is the same way.
They basically will add a new channel for the Diamondbacks to be on
and Major League Baseball will present those games.
So there will be no interruption in watching games.
I think the only thing that may suck is like I like to watch games at times when I'm not at home through my phone.
And I don't know if now I'm going to have that for free available to me
the same way I previously did by being a subscriber to DirecTV and Valley Sports
because I just log in with my television provider.
Hopefully that's the case because I don't want to miss on.
If you log in with your TV provider, then you should be all the same stuff that worked on your phone
before I would think would still work.
But yeah, as far as whether the Diamondbacks would actually cut a new deal with Diamond Sports Group.
Sure.
Yeah, as we just showed, Gambo did report that that's something that they're in discussions on right now.
I just don't know if I see that happening.
It seems like, right, as you said, Major League Baseball is promised up to 80 per year.
of what teams would have gotten through their previous contract.
So I think it's only in the Diamondbacks best interest to at least talk with Diamond Sports
Group and see like maybe they could get 90%.
Maybe they could get 85%.
You know, if there's a way for them to cut a deal here where they wind up with more money
than they would get through Major League Baseball, it obviously serves them well to have those
discussions and see if they can go down that road.
My guess is that the discrepancy between, you know, what balance.
Allie Sports is actually willing to pay and what they were, you know, what they were looking at having to pay earlier is probably quite large.
And I'm imagining that the Diamondbacks wouldn't be able to get enough from a renegotiated deal through them.
But not really surprised at all that they would be having those discussions.
I just don't really think it's going to go anywhere.
First, yes, we will dress Jesse's glasses.
They are gorgeous.
He's a very handsome man.
They're ray bands.
Like this man went, I don't, I think we're on different pay scales.
I'm not sure what's happening here.
But Zona in Arizona wants me to talk about options for people under 40 years old.
I know why you would want to talk me to talk about options for people under 40.
That ship has sailed on my life.
But for people under 40, you can subscribe to MLB.tv with a single game package that will cost you $1999 per month.
So I don't know how that – I don't know where Bally Sports – did Bally Sports even have an option like that where you could, like, just watch the Diamondbacks and pay one fee?
I mean, not through, not through like a streaming, right?
That's what the streaming rights thing is right now.
Yeah, I mean, there's there's the whole Bally Sports subscription thing that they've had for a while.
But as people have told us in the comments in the past, Arizona Diamondbacks were not available through that.
Right.
So that was not really an option previously.
If you were watching DBAX games, you were doing it through some streaming service like I have DirecTV stream, something along those lines in order in order to be able to watch it.
So those things should all still work.
moving forward.
It's just going to be, you're just going to find it in a different place through those services.
But as you talked about, yeah, Major League Baseball is also, if they do step in and take over,
they're going to have a separate plan that you could buy to watch Diamondbacks games specifically,
which does mean, unfortunately, if you already have MLB.tv, you would not be eligible to get
in-market Diamondbacks games.
You would?
No, which was kind of a point of controversy.
A lot of people were like, all right, if I'm already paying for MLB.tv and now Major League
baseball is stepping in to broadcast my local team's games, I should be able to get those games too.
Yeah.
But that's not how this works.
If you're paying for MLB.tv right now, you're getting out of market games.
You're not paying the in-market game premium.
So you would have to pay an additional subscription fee in order to get that.
Sean, you troublemaker.
I see what you're doing in there.
We're not putting that up there, but I'm just saying check out Sean's tweet message.
Anyway, also we have another unfortunate question in there that I saw, which was just about, you
the local sports journalist that we've come to kind of love some of those people like Jody Jackson
and such.
Yes.
I do know that the broadcasters, that would be, you know, Steve Berthume.
Steve Berthume, Bob Brenley, those guys are hired by the team.
Right.
So those are a team, but do not know what would occur for the rest of the crew.
And that's unfortunate because we have a lot of people over there that we personally know.
I mean, and that goes beyond the on-screen talent.
I mean, we know some wonderful producers.
cameras,
all sorts of people over there
that all work for ballet sports
and it really sucks.
It really does.
Like we don't,
this is the last thing we want.
Hopefully that situation somehow
is better for them
after all of a sudden done
because I'm sure,
I'm sure this is a stressful period of time
trying to wait and see
what happens in regards to your employers.
So we really hope for the best
because Diamondbacks fans really,
I think, kind of love the crew
that is in place right now.
Of course, we know everybody has their comments about the commentating crew, but we love them as well.
They're fantastic.
So great, great to see that the Diamondbacks will not be interrupted, but very interesting to see how the situation develops and see if perhaps some last minute new deal can be struck before MLB takes over broadcasting those games, I imagine, on July 1st.
If there is a last minute deal, my guess is that it would be a short-term thing.
It would be like, all right, we'll just, you know, if you pay us this amount of money, you know, maybe it's comparable to what Major League Baseball would pay.
Maybe it's a little more.
Then, sure, we'll just carry with Valley Sports, Arizona, through the end of the season.
And then maybe in the future, the debacks would look to renegotiate something else long term, probably through Major League Baseball.
That's the problematic nature of this situation is that it's developing right in the middle of the season like this.
And not only that, but man, it's developing during one of the better seasons the Diamondbacks have had in recent history.
So it really sucks because I know there's a lot of people out there concerned about where they're going to see this team, how they're going to be able to watch them.
They will be available.
There is a 0% chance that there's that on July 2nd, the Diamondbacks have a game and you just can't, you just can't watch you have to listen on the radio.
That's not going to happen.
That's what's good about this MLB situation.
They are ready.
And not only that, but they've already done it with the Padres.
So they really do kind of have the game plan already in place.
but if you don't have a game plan in place for yourself for this summer, I can help you out.

Jesse, the voting is closed.
The ballots are closed.
Phase one is over.
And much like the Avengers series, we're ready to move on to phase two because that is when we find
out if Arizona Diamondbacks outfielders
Corbyn Carroll and Lordus Gurriel
made it or if any of the other Arizona
Diamondbacks which kind of really
didn't have much of a chance somehow snuck in
to Phase 2 voting. But
Phase 2 does start on Monday, June
26, so we should know who the
Diamondbacks have in that category
soon here, I imagine. Maybe why this weekend?
Yeah, yeah, we should know soon. I don't believe they've announced
anything yet. I mean,
I think that was kind of the impetus
for Major League Baseball doing this two-phase
thing as they try to build in as much of drama as they possibly can.
But when we do find out, I mean, I think you can say with relative certainty that
Corbyn Carroll will be a finalist in the outfield.
Lordus Guriel, as of the most recent update.
He's going to sink in the middle of the week.
He was in there as well.
As I said in the short that you might have seen on our YouTube channel, both of those guys
were in the picture as of that most recent update.
And how it's going to work is Ronald Lacuni Jr.
is pretty much automatically going to be a starter because it certainly appeared that he was going
to be the leading vote getter in phase one.
So he gets an automatic ticket to start the game, rightfully so.
I mean, Ronald Lacunae has been incredible for the Atlanta Braves this year.
And then the next four guys, the next four highest vote getters in the outfield of the
National League, those guys advanced to phase two.
And then we have this three-day period, as you said, from Monday through Thursday,
where fans can vote only once per day now in order to decide which two out of those four
guys actually starts in the All-Star game.
This only has to do with starters in the All-Star game.
If, you know, one of those guys doesn't make it, it doesn't mean that they can't be in
the All-Star game.
It just means that they don't.
They won't start in the All-Star game.
Brett Johnson says Corbyl will be the starting left-fielder.
We hope that's the case, but we can't assume that's going to be the case because I don't
believe votes are going to carry over from phase one to phase two.
It's a completely new voting process, right?
So you're going to have Lordus Guriel and Corbyn Carroll in there with the likes of Juan Soto
most likely.
It was Moogie Betts, Juan Soto, Corbyn Carroll, and Lordus were the four guys.
But you do have to wonder, did Fernando Tatis find a way to sneak in there over Lordus
and in those couple days leading up to the end of phase one?
It's hard to believe, but you never know, right?
You never know.
But that's the reason why Diamondbacks fans need to get out once phase two starts and vote.
We need to try to make sure that Corbyn Carroll gets into starting this game.
I love Lourdes and I want him to be part of this.
I would love for him to start as well.
And it's not saying that Lordus doesn't deserve it,
but we need to create something magic here, folks.
Like Corbyn Carroll is going to play his first ever all-star game in the city he grew up in.
And he really should start.
And he should start.
And he should start.
Oh, he should start because it's a good story.
He should start because he deserves it, to be honest.
And I mean, this guy is doing something that is incredible.
He's not just the diamond.
back's best prospect. He is baseball's best prospect. He is one of the most entertaining,
exhilarating players that we've had in a while when you start comparing him and saying he has
an opportunity to realistically do what Suzuki Ichiro did at age 28 when he's 22. Is that right?
That doesn't make sense to me. Yeah. I mean, it was a little bit of a different situation because
Ichero is coming over from Japan. No, but that's what I'm saying. That's what I'm saying. I'm saying
I mean, Echiro was older, he had experience.
So when he came in, that's, that is a great point.
He was making the, he was making the splash as already a season baseball player who was
starting his rookie year and also getting the MVP.
So that would almost be like Freddie Freeman now, like getting his first season or some
shit like that where like, yeah, their first season in the league is now, but they're also
at a point in their career.
Yeah.
Where they're a very seasoned talented baseball player.
Corvin paid 142 minor league games.
That, that's all that separated him from high school.
And he didn't, I mean, he went to a price.
at high school.
He didn't.
It's not even a full baseball.
He didn't know.
He didn't face the competition he faced in high school wasn't even that good, which is why some
people were a little bit more down on him in the draft.
And yeah, I mean, we could tell this story over and over and over again.
But yeah, the point is that you should absolutely vote for Corby Carroll.
And it also doesn't hurt, as Brett pointed out in the chat, that you have seen Corby
Carol get more love in the national spotlight in recent days.
I think he was on MLB Network this morning, as we talked about earlier.
both he and Zach Gallen
stopped by the Sports Center Studios
in Washington, D.C. last night
when they arrived there to the spot with Scott Van Pelt.
So, yeah, I did not get the invite
to the Sports Center studios when I went to Washington,
D.C.
I don't know how they missed you there.
That's really surprising.
Travel woes, but speaking of travel woes,
the Diamondbacks have some travel woes ahead of them.
I'm still interested to see who got shipped off
to potentially San Francisco immediately.
I'm sure the starting pitchers did.
I'm sure there were a lot of people
I didn't need to make this trip out to Washington
just to come back to San Francisco,
but let's take a look at that starters
for that very, very important series now
for the Giants. Literally,
this is the series that is
the battle for first place in the National League West
essentially, yeah?
Pretty much, yeah.
If the Giants win today,
they'll be two and a half back
before this game starts.
The Giants are on a tear.
They won their 10th consecutive game
on Wednesday night,
and it was controversial.
I don't know if you saw that.
There was the Buster Posey rule of blocking home play came into play.
And you could argue that was the reason the Giants won that game.
But they won that game against the Padres.
They've won 10 in a row.
And yeah, you've got a big weekend series coming up here.
I don't want to overstate the importance of the series.
I don't want to make it sound like this is what decides who wins the NL West or anything like that.
We're too early in the season to be at that point.
Oh, come on.
Let's be hyperbolic.
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
This is the battle for the NL West, folks.
Sorry, we're getting ready to broadcast these games ourselves.
So we got to do a better job of hyping up the matchups because, you know,
PHNX might be in the market to take over these games before MLB does.
There you go.
People are pointing out in the comments.
Apparently the Giants are down six to nothing right now in that series finale.
So, but yeah, the travel schedule for the Giants is a lot easier here.
They are already playing at home.
So this is just a continuation of a homestand for them.
I'm glad they always have a game today, though.
Yeah, if they had an off day, that would have been pretty rough.
But, yeah, of course, the debacks going from Milwaukee to D.C.
And then flying into San Francisco tomorrow.
It's a series you're honestly set up to loose.
Like, you've got Davies and Nelson pitching.
Both of those guys obviously have struggled more than others in the debacks rotation of late.
You are getting Logan Webb and D.
Dish Glefani in this series from the giant side of things.
Great job pronouncing that one, by the way.
Oh, thank you.
And then also, I think, Algonwifon.
And then also I think Alex Cobb might have pitched in this series.
I believe he's hurt.
So the Diamondbacks sort of dodge a bullet there.
But you're still getting a bullpen game against Merrill Kelly on Saturday.
And that's not a walk in the park.
I mean, the Giants bullpen has been really productive this year.
So it's a series that you're kind of set up to lose in a lot of ways.
But the debacks could really make a statement by going in there and taking two out of three this weekend.
Well, we do have one little interesting tidbit coming out of the Pioneer League in baseball.
all, Jesse. Boise Hawks, specifically. I want to give a shout out to my man Schlag for pointing this
out to me, but there was a very, very, oh, wait, hold on. My friend Schlagg, who pointed this out
to me also just had a brand new baby. So I probably should address that. Instead of thanking you
for the tweet, congratulations to my friends, Josh and Laura on the birth of Xander Gray. So happy to
have another edition to our world. Love you guys very much. And Josh sent me this tweet,
Tyler Jorgensen, who is a player out of Gilbert, Arizona, who plays for the Boise Hawks,
hit for the cycle last night, which is fairly incredible in itself, of course, right?
Sure.
But it goes beyond that, Jesse, because he hit for the cycle on four pitches.
Wow.
Four pitches is all he needed to hit for the cycle.
First pitch RBI triple in the first inning, three RBI home run in the third,
double in the fifth, single in the sixth.
Hawks win 20 to 8 over the Grand Junction jackalopes.
But man.
Why are you even throwing a first pitch strike at that point?
Like once he's three hits in to the cycle.
That feels.
Why aren't you beaning him at that point?
Where is the intentional walk?
I'm not saying you have to be in him.
I'm just saying like, all right, maybe be a little more careful.
Obviously, I haven't actually seen these pitches.
So I don't know.
Maybe they were being careful.
And he just, maybe he just smashing them.
Maybe he just smashing the ball, right?
Like, good for Tyler, though.
Again, Gilbert, Arizona native out of Mesquite High School, graduated in 2016.
So very cool.
Maybe we'll have to get Tyler on the show to talk about this because, you know, how big is the baseball when you're hitting for the cycle and all you saw was four pitches all night long?
Is it bigger than a beach ball at that point?
Is it just, is it the size of the Avnet logo at one point on the Diamondbacks jerseys?
Yeah, something like that.
Anyway, congratulations to Tyler on that feat.
And of course, congratulations to the Arizona Diamondbacks on their 46th win of the season.
We will be back tomorrow with a post-game show.
So make sure to join us for that.
In the meantime, though, you should check out our friends at Foco for these amazing little bobbleheads.
A little Cotel, a little, he could have had the Kigsnake today, but Davy kind of stole it from him.

Can we just pull up that?
Why not?
Can we take a look at him again?
Oh man look at that I just can't believe that that actually happened
He's like you see here this would be this eye
This is where the ball was this is what you called like he's like okay
Where's a ball a ball's here?
Where's a moron a moron is up here
You know, like, it's kind of unbelievable, but I love it.
It looks like he's like in like a call of like calling his call of duty prone.
Yeah, like he's like to shoot somebody.
Yeah, yeah, like this is a camper in call of duty that I can't stand that killed me 20 times.
Most importantly, this all happened after he got tossed.
He was actually quite civil when he went out there.
So God bless him for just getting his money's worth once he decided once he was tossed, he's not given up that easily.
So if you're in the debacks dug out, like how did you hold it together during?
You did not.
Like, you cheered him on.
I mean, that's what I did in my seat here at the office.
I just raised my hand in the air and said,
Davey, Davey!
It was awesome.
But of course, yeah, wonderful stuff.
Thank you guys again for joining us.
