Ladies and gentlemen, Jesse Friedman, the host of the Rattle Podcast, back here with you for a very, very special edition of the show.
I was out in Cain County visiting with the Cain County Cougars covering their game for the day as I'm out here in Illinois.
And it just so happened that today was the day when Diamondbacks number two overall prospect, Christian Robinson, was promoted from the Hillsboro hops to the Cain County Cougars.
He didn't play in the game today, but he was in uniform.
He was there, and I got to catch up with him after the game.
Now, I will warn you, the audio quality of this interview came from my field microphone.
It's not quite up to snuff with what we normally try to do here on the Rattle Podcast.
I think if anything, it'll be a little bit easier to hear his answers than my questions.
But, hey, his answers are the important part anyway.
Ladies and gentlemen, thank you so much for listening to and supporting the Rattle Podcasts.
We really appreciate it.
And without further ado, here is my interview with Diamondbacks number two overall prospect
and now Kane County Cougars outfielder, Christian Robinson.
Is your first day on the job a walk off?
You know, obviously you didn't get a chance to participate exactly, but it's got to be pretty fun.
Yeah, it was just fun to see the excitement of the new.
team and meeting after the game just to see the kind of personalities in the clubhouse and
who I'm going to be dealing with the for the rest of the season.
Okay.
I saw you having some good conversations.
It looks like on the top step of the dugout.
What's it been like just kind of getting used to a new environment?
I mean, people forget, usually you're 18 years old, right?
Like these are not transitions the most 18 year old to go through, right?
What is that like for you?
Yeah, I think that that helped me a lot, just talking to some of the guys, talking to some of the coaches.
Just trying to pick the brains about what's been going on throughout the season so far.
Trying to catch up with the speed of the game, I think that's the biggest thing with moving up a level as the speed of the kind of increases.
So trying to hear what they have to say about it and going into tomorrow with the right approach.
What will you miss most about Hillsborough?
I don't know. I feel like the Hillsville fine is definitely having back.
You know, I came, I just went up.
Fan favorite vibes over there a little bit.
Just went up a day.
So I don't know how the crowd is going to warm to me coming here.
You know what?
Last year I got a call up to Missoula and the crowd was pretty encouraging, but, you know, Hillsborough, it was nothing like it.
Okay.
Have you ever been to Illinois before?
Is this your first time?
Okay.
What's it like so far?
Um.
It's been here for what, 24 hours?
Yeah.
Not even that.
Probably.
We'll last, but what I've seen, it's a nice place.
I haven't really been able to see a lot.
You know, I can't put air-questrate to a field.
But, yeah, I'm definitely going to do my share of exploring this,
the Cain County.
I know you have a bit of an army of supporters back in the Bahamas from what I've heard.
Obviously, this is very recent news.
Have you been able to talk to any friends or family back home about the new belt promotion?
Yeah, a lot of people knew about it,
before me but yes as soon as I found out about it told my family back home to my
girlfriend you know and then Hillsboro they posted something earlier today and you
know with social media nowadays you know everyone finds out about it so my inbox is
packed just with encouraging people and you know friends family supporters just
can give me a special congrats and you know saying that they have my backs
the whole process.
That's very cool.
You've got quite a season, obviously, with both for 319 batting average, the home runs,
the RBIs, the stolen bases, the whole thing.
Are there any specific things that you're still trying to hone about your game as you
make the transition of the year to Kane County?
Yeah, I always say that I'm so, I feel like I'm still improving on the defensive side.
You know, at the plate, it's always a battle, it's always a grind, you know, wherever you go,
no matter what you do at a certain level.
level, you know, it's up and down kind of thing, so I just stay humble about the play.
But defensive side, I could really be moody about that, and I said that before with the reporter.
So I try my best to keep that as a positive part of my game.
Other than that, yeah, I just out there having fun.
Last thing for you, you are one of three guys on the roster listed as a center fielder.
you mentioned the defense can you know sometimes be something that maybe it's not your number one thing
you're always focusing on but you know three center fielders on the roster do you have any idea
how that situation is going to shake out as far as playing time or is that kind of a waiting
see type of the thing i see it as a lot of potential in the outfit a lot of a lot of talent and out
you know and it gives the manager um VA just you know a lot of variety a lot of talents to choose from
you know, obviously with us,
the center field is just a lot of speed in that group.
And I feel like, you know, that's only upside from here.
Once again, big thank you to the Kane County Cougars.
Their entire staff, they were all phenomenal today when I was out there.
Thank you to them for making this interview possible.
