Welcome in, everybody.
As I said, the Diamondbacks do prepare to take on a Toronto Blue Jays team here after a very successful road trip.
I mean, it's hard to not call going six and three and winning all.
all three series successful.
However, you know, again, some people in the chat yesterday pointed out that they could
have and probably should have won more games, Danielle.
What are your thoughts overall?
It's a really weird position to be in because it is a very successful road trip.
Nobody's going to argue that.
But very easily could have gone, what, 9 and 0, right?
I mean, that's what it felt like.
It's tough.
It's hard when it is such a successful road trip, right?
Six and three.
against some pretty good opponents.
But then at the same time, oh, boy,
probably could have gone 9-0
and an 11-game win streak.
But y'all take it, right?
I think it would be crazy.
What DeBacks fan is going to look at the current standing
of the D-Backs, right?
The record, given their schedule,
the hardest schedule in all baseball,
and say, you know what,
I wouldn't take this at the beginning of the season.
But at the same time, it could be better.
Yeah, I mean, it could be.
But again, in all honesty,
it's much better than many of us expected
and overall I feel like this is a situation where, you know,
the Diamondbacks did surprise, I think, many of us
with the way that they were able to put some wins together,
especially with the lack of offense from certain parts of this team.
And then there's that game one against the Baltimore Orioles
that I don't even want to remember or, you know, watch or think about ever again.
Yeah, what game?
Yeah, no, wipe it from my memory.
I think the biggest story right now is the return to Merrill Kelly and its impact on the starting
rotation. The word coming out after all of those roster moves were made, Taylor Rashi was sent
down an option to AAA Reno. We also had Gabriel Moreno go on the injured list and the
Diamondbacks call-up backup catcher Aramis Garcia. But the big story here, obviously, is Brandon
fought being moved to the bullpen. And it's a move that we saw kind of coming in some way,
unfortunately for fought, he just wasn't performing at the level that he needed to in order to maintain his role in the starting rotation.
It sucks. It's painful. It's never great to watch a guy that you've rooted for, you know, kind of get demoted like this in a way.
However, after kind of thinking about it a bit and, you know, looking at the numbers and such, I'm starting to think that this might end up being a good move because, again, the bullpen does have a lot of good things going for it, but it's still not a lot of.
a solid pen and you still don't feel 100% about, you know, their ability to lock down games.
That confidence is growing, but you don't feel 100% about it right now with the way it's
constructed, right?
Yeah.
Brandon Fott moving there does add a huge weapon to that bullpen.
And I do feel like even though I thought that he might get option down with the one option
he has left, I am coming around to liking him being moved to the bullpen.
What were your thoughts on this?
Yeah, it'll be interesting to see what Brandon fought we're going to get out of the bullpen
because some pitchers react well.
I like to look back at Ryan Nelson back in, what, 2023?
When he was a key piece of that World Series bullpen, right?
Pitchers typically gain velocity when they go to the pen.
I think that's something to look forward for Brandon fought.
The velocity did seem to be a little bit down so far this year.
and I think it solidifies
assuming we get the Brandon pot that we think we're going to get
and he reacts well to the to the repositioning
it really solidifies a point of weakness
with this debacks team we look back at all these years
where the biggest issue in the bullpen was being overtaxed right
overuse overtax yeah that's very true
Tori would lean on the guys he trusts entirely too much
And a lot of that is because the starters couldn't go deep, right?
Right.
And so now we got a starting rotation that seems to be maybe a bit of a strength with this team.
And now you got a guy that can give you length, give you depth.
And hopefully that makes the entire bullpen better.
And, you know, as you said, has been pretty good so far this year.
Pieces of it have.
Pieces of it have been good.
The back end, the high end guys, the high leverage guys have been pretty good so far.
So we'll see.
We'll see what happened.
I think that Tori is still finding those guys that he can trust.
I think he has found a couple that he could lean on,
especially in those high leverage situations.
He kind of has the guys that he feels he can trust when there are inherited runners.
That's something I would not trust Brandon Fought to be,
considering the lack of success that he's had with runners on base this season.
But overall, it was kind of awkward to see Brandon Fott in the bullpen.
And it was kind of weird.
and overall it's been an adjustment for him.
And one of the players that he's turned to has been Ryan Nelson.
Ryan Nelson was interviewed the other day by Arizona Sports Burns and Gambo,
and he shared advice with Fought on how to handle all of this.
According to Nelson, he said, or this is the quote,
I told him to attack it with the best mindset that he can
and to not get in his head about feeling like it's an emotion or anything like that, Nelson said.
I think that it can weigh on you a bit mentally,
and the more positive you can be about it, the better it's going to be just in general.
I was just letting him know that I was open to talking about the routines that I would go through
because it can be tough when you're out here, like you're not on a set schedule.
You don't really know when you're going to pitch.
So being able to get the in-between work that you would get when you're a starter,
it can be difficult in the pen.
And obviously there's a lot of things that, you know, that happen when it comes to transitioning
from being a starter to the pen.
but that being the most difficult, right?
The way that you would prepare as a starter
before a game versus you being a guy in the bullpen
that honestly has no idea when you're going to pitch
or even if you're going to pitch that particular night.
Like you have a good idea.
Yeah.
They tell you.
But you have your bullpen meetings before,
but it's tough.
But you never know.
You never know.
You might not get into the game.
Yeah.
As a starter, you're so routine oriented, right?
You have your start.
Then you have your midweek bullpen.
Then you have your video sessions and all that.
You don't necessarily get that as a reliever.
So it's always interesting to see who can handle it and who can't.
It's not always going to be successful.
But I really do feel like Fott's mindset and his stuff plays well to being in the bullpen.
And, you know, I've had this stuff.
I'm just going to throw it out there.
I'm going to throw it out there.
starters like him who have really played well in high levered situations.
You know, you look back in the playoffs.
Brandon Fott was great.
Yeah. Maybe closer. I don't know. Maybe high leverage guy. Maybe. I don't know. Look at Archie Bradley. Worked pretty well. I mean, I just feel like his stuff plays well to it. And so we'll see. It depends on how he adapts to this role because the other side of this is the mental aspect of it. And I think that's something that could affect him negatively far more than routine or anything else, right? Like it really comes down to the fact that this is a demotion and it's hard sometimes to accept that. I don't think that.
that this is a,
the one thing that he should know is this is in a permanent situation.
This is not his identity now.
This is not where he lives for the rest of his career.
I mean, to be fair,
every athlete,
every baseball player has to perform in order to continue to secure their spot,
whether it's a position player or a pitcher.
But I will say that this is a weird year
where there's a really good chance you're not getting two of the guys
and your starting rotation back next year, right?
So when it comes to that, like Ryan Nelson and Brandon fought, regardless of what's going to happen this year, are going to be still a big part of their future and a big part of their future starting rotation.
It's just this year, both of those guys might end up in the bullpen based on the circumstance.
And for the Diamondbacks, it's a good problem to have, but it's just not such a good problem for the young guys.
For those guys to have.
I don't think we were expecting Michael Soroka.
To pitch this way, I think the assumption was Soroka would be in the pen going into this year, right?
And so it's an interesting mental place for these two to be in.
It's funny you say that because yes and no, I guess maybe based on the fact that he was a late pickup and what his salary is and everything like that.
And he's just kind of the back end of the rotation.
So it seems like it's a no-brainer that he would be that.
But I still remember Tori kind of looking at all of us in the press conference room because several questions.
essentially were alluding to Michael Soroka being the one
that would be going to the bullpen.
And he kind of stopped everything for a second.
It was like, why is that like the assumption?
You know, basically to him, he was like,
no but no decisions have been made.
So it seems like you guys all the general consensus amongst you all
is that that's who's going to the pen.
But the whole vibe was like, okay, you sign this guy.
He used to be really good.
He's on the back end of his career.
We'll just give him a shot.
And so it was just a real classic.
Like this guy's a long relief.
guy, right? Yeah. That hasn't been the case. That hasn't been the case. That's for sure.
Making a lot of history. So and again, also, it's not terrible because you did sign him as a
starter. Right. And the idea there was, yes, that Corbyn Burns was going to return. But again,
the idea isn't that he is the immediate choice to be moved out of the rotation. The idea here is
that as the season progresses, there is a competition that moves along and that competition
determines who stays and who goes.
Not that Zach Gowan or Merrill Kelly will probably too much in danger.
But, I mean, if either one of those guys posted a 6ERA over a healthy stretch,
they might be the ones to go in some way.
You know what I mean?
Because the Diamondbacks haven't really been shy about eating money
and moving guys to the bullpen regardless how much they got paid, Jordan Montgomery.
But this to me feels like hopefully a good thing.
Hopefully Brandon can make that mental, you know, kind of connection that this is only temporary.
And if anything happens, he literally is the first man up to return to the rotation.
Plus, again, it's still an ongoing competition.
So if one of the other guys, like if Michael Soroka comes back down to Earth, starts giving up more of these four earn run performances and maybe those strikeouts come back down, perhaps, you know, perhaps Brandon fought if he's successful in the pen, maybe they turn to him.
Yeah, and you've seen guys where getting demoted to the pen is the best thing that's ever happened to their career.
Yeah.
I mean, you look at Ryan Nelson.
Yes.
I mean, I'll go back to Ryan Nelson a million times on this because, I mean, just look at what he did in the World Series, right?
Right.
Probably so far the best thing never happened to him in his career.
You look at, you know, going way back like a guy like John Smoltz, who knows?
Like, I really do think this is an opportunity to get back to the Brandon Fought that we expect.
And, you know, time was else.
see what his mentality is, and I think he has the right mentality.
The problem really is, is that when you're good in the bullpen.
You kind of stuck there.
Yeah, right?
Like, it's not like you outperform and then they say, all right, let's move him back into the starting
rotation because he's performing so well.
No, you're like, awesome.
We got ourselves and saw the guy in the pen, right?
Yeah, you look at a guy like Archie Bradley.
I don't think he was supposed to stay in the pen as long as he did.
And he turned into our version of Andrew Miller, right?
Yeah.
And we talked to him about that.
Like that's where Archie provided that clarity at times where it's like, yeah, if I'm going to be in the pen, I want to be the best arm in the pen. I want to be the closer, right?
Yeah. Well, and Josh Colemanter as well did the exact same thing. He was two, like, the words.
The words are hard. Indispensible. Indispensible is the word I'm looking at.
No, absolutely. You prove to be indispensable. Right, 100%. But I need you to settle a little bit of a disagreement that Damon and I have been having on this show now that we have a third party here. And not to say that the chat, who hasn't always China.
in on this also helped us try to determine which one of us are crazy. But what is your concern level
in regards to Geraldo Perdomo's struggles right now? I mean, things have not. It's not. I am a little
concerned. On scale one to 10, I'd say I'm about a five. More concern than either one of us, Damon.
More concerned. I was a four. Damon was a three. You're not wrong. I don't think you're wrong.
I think you're right to be concerned. I will say that I love Perdomo because even
when he's struggling, he's still extremely productive, right?
Like he'll, he will walk, he will do whatever, you know, he will do whatever he needs to do.
When he isn't hitting with the bat, he'll still take long at bats, he'll still, you know, do all of that stuff.
And it's all productive, right?
It's definitely not what we kind of have seen at times early from Nolan Aronado that feels like just a void of a spot in the, you know, in the lineup.
But even Aronado has been putting things together,
and Perdomo has had himself a better week this week.
But, I mean, I don't think that anyone is wrong to have their concerns about Geraldo Prudomo.
But Damon did pull Perdomo's baseball spot page, I think we got here.
Yeah.
And again, here, his at bats are insane.
Yes.
Look at his bats.
Look at his squared up percentage, his chase percentages, whiff percentage,
it's strikeout percentage, walk percentage.
like all elite all elite and his base running value base running run value also elite what is that the 89th percentile for that one
but then you just have everything else that right now for at least 2026 seems to be ice cold and looking at this this is what
it looks like but i think the biggest most problematic thing here is his fielding on on on that other call there's no
question about the fielding is so much more concerning to me than his offense because again
And his offense still shows me he's putting together great, you know, at-bats, great approaches
at the plate.
He just hasn't had that success.
And it feels like he's going to break through here any day now.
But, you know, that minus one outs above average and his range being in the 19th percentile,
that's, that's concerning.
A little concerned.
And you wonder how much of that is placed on the offensive struggles at this point.
It's, you know, I, that's a good point.
When I'm on the show, I'm always trying to bring the players for stuff.
It is a mental game. It's hard. It's hard when you're when you're not performing at the way you expect yourself to perform. And so I wonder if when he finally gets it back. Because I listen, I said five. That's still like I'm still less concerned than I am concerned. If that makes sense. I get where you're going. Because you do see the numbers. Right. Yeah. My my biggest concern is the ground ball rate. And he is getting a little his, his, his,
approach is he as as the number three hitter you can see he's trying to do too much he's trying to
pull the ball too much that's not per domo that's not what domo does right and so i think once he gets
it back mentally um those offensive numbers will come back i'm not worried i'm not too worried i am so
a little worried um that said the fielding is very concerned so we'll see if that is in fact a mental
block from from the offensive performance but you know you just never know it's such a mental game this
this this game of ours this game of our well here's the
the thing is like you you might definitely be on to something as far as the offense impacting that but
perdomo overall has been it feels like he's been trying to do too much yes and i feel like the
correct remedy would to be changed where he is at in the starting lineup i have not really
loved him ever hitting in the three hole no damon who adores everything predomo does has not loved
him hitting in the three hole it's never made a lot of sense he always was a good leadoff hitter
and then was somehow incredible in the ninth hole.
In the nine hole.
I understand not wanting the batten ninth.
I totally understand that.
Despite the fact that that experiment or whatever you want to call it
worked extremely well to get that guy on base
when the lineup turns back around and Catel is coming up to the plate.
I called him the best nine hole hitter in baseball in 20, 23.
And Jesse was laughing at me.
And I was like, I feel like that's a valuable thing to have a line up.
Especially the way Tori has always constructed his lineup.
Yeah.
I think it's really easy to get lost in seeing, oh, we have Perdomo in the three hole.
We have, we have Catelle in the leading off, right?
But the way Tori has always constructed his lineups is you have your sort of power guy first, batting lead off.
Right.
And then your get on base guys, eight and nine.
Yeah.
So that by the time the lineup flips over, you have these big innings, right?
But right now, it feels like, like, Domo is trying too hard to put that three-hole hitter label on himself.
Right, right.
He's trying to, he's trying to hit for power, and it's the opposite.
And it's leading to ground balls and double plays.
That's what I'm most concerned about.
He was our risk king. He was our risk.
He was our risk.
I understood the play of putting him third at the beginning, but it's clearly not working.
And I think it's at the time now, we've had a big enough sample size where it might just be time to mix
things up and, you know, hopefully from a mental standpoint, that just kind of opens his game up
a little bit more, you know, having different priorities, not about getting Corbyn or Catelle into
score, but rather focusing on himself and just getting on base and, you know, having quality
A-Bs. That's, that's kind of my vision for how I think that maybe we could get prognomone.
Yeah, because it is a strange mix of he's trying to do too much and also a little too situational
baseball, right? Getting the ball to the left side when Corp.
Orban or Kattel was on base and rather than trying to drive the ball like he was doing last year.
Right.
Well, and I mean, the other thing about it too was him coming up before Ketel, again, even if he's not successful, he's seeing a lot of pitches.
He's taking along at bat.
Like then after dealing with that, whether you win or lose against Pardomo, then you had to deal with Ketel, right?
And again, I like that setup, no matter how you want to put it in the lineup, better than the opposite where Perdomo is after Ketel.
I just like the idea of Cotele or Pardomo kind of wearing out a pitcher a little bit in the at bat.
And that's why I like him hitting first overall.
I think that, again, even with his lack of success, he still, you know, he still finds a way at times.
And I feel like he's going to improve.
But for now, I would put him back in the nine hole.
And I just, the only thing I would be worried about is Tori, as Tori is always worried about,
is how that's going to affect him mentally.
Essentially, you know, again, you do these small.
moves in baseball and it's viewed by the player as a demotion, it might not help the struggles that
they're experiencing and to get them back on track, right? So I don't know. I just, I don't, I think
he needs to be moved out of the three hole. And I think a lot of things would, uh, would, would perhaps
go his way in doing that. But we'll see. We'll see how this progresses. And of course, we got a big
series starting tomorrow with the Toronto Blue Jays here at Chase Field. We are going to preview that series on
the other side of this break. Don't you guys go anywhere? You're watching the PHNX

I'm going to literally maybe throw my phone in the trash over this next three-day weekend
because I'm going to be out of Tempe Beach Park and join enjoying Reggae Riza.
But Danielle and Damon are going to take over at least for Friday night.
And, of course, this is a big series against one of those teams.
And we're going to look ahead at the schedule later,
take a little look ahead at the schedule for the rest of the month.
But this is one of those teams that were on the schedule that you kind of dreaded.
We were very worried about how the Diamondbacks were going to fare in this first month of the season.
Right.
We said if they could just keep their head above water, they could just keep themselves around 500,
things would be good.
And again, things have changed, right?
They were very successful on this road trip that most of us probably thought they were going to get a little beat down on on, right?
And then only to come back here to take on the team that just went to the World Series last year.
So it's like there were probably a lot of Ls penciled in for this week that have now been erased and turned to Ws.
And with the way that the Blue Jays have been performing so far in 2026,
at least for the time being,
they're not exactly the formidable foe that we thought we were going to get
coming here into the series.
Yeah, all of a sudden, not quite as daunting as you thought.
You look at the Mets, they weren't playing particularly well going,
and with that Juan Soto.
Right. The Phillies weren't playing particularly well as well.
And now the Blue Jays, who you have a combined probable starters age of 106,
going into this, going into this series, you're feeling pretty good.
Like you said, we were just kind of hoping to hover around 500.
I told a friend that like if the debaq could be within five games under, like,
if they were five games under 500 going into May, that's a win, baby.
Right.
And now at this point, it was like, no, I kind of want more.
Well, you're looking at at really, really a very impressive start, I think,
especially with the Blue Jays and the White Sox coming up.
Right.
putting some space between yourself and that 500 line.
And I've been telling all of them about that stretch that they have in May
where they play like the Giants or I don't know if it's Rockies First and the Giants,
but it's like Rockies Giants,
and it's like 10 to 12 games in there that they play
just against those two teams over this stretch.
It's like, man, if those two teams can be as bad as they're playing right now, then,
then that is a stretch that could define the season for this team, right?
Because if they go in and just do what they're supposed to do,
which is beat a bad team and put together that many wins,
at least maybe not a winning streak,
but win the majority of those games.
They could be sitting at a very good position there by the end of May
when, again, they start getting guys back.
They start getting AJ puck back at that point.
Then a few months later, you got Corbyn Burns.
A few months later, you got Justin Martinez.
Also around that time, you're going to be getting Jordan Lawler back
and maybe Pavin Smith.
So it just always feels like no matter what,
there's at least something to look forward to for this team.
Yeah, feeling pretty good.
feeling pretty excited, especially
historically with
Toro Oveau and Mike Hazen team,
May has been pretty rough.
Yeah. Mays under this
front office and leadership
has not been great.
Going all the way back to what, 2017.
There's just weird things like that with this team.
It's just weird, fluky, weird baseball things
going on. And so now going into
this May where you're feeling good about yourself.
I mean, I think you're going to take this every single time.
Yeah. Well, you got to feel good about them
doing what they did on this road trip. And again, even going six and three and still feeling like
they underperformed a little bit, feeling like they left some meat on the bone, especially, obviously,
in game one there versus the Orioles. But let's take a look at this Toronto Blue Jays team at a glance
here, because as I said, they've been struggling a little bit. They're seven and ten this season.
They're at the bottom of the ALE East. That's a tough division because it seems like every team in that
division is doing well, but them and the Red Sox not so much. Minus 24 run differential,
a big part of them being 7 and 10. They are 3 and 7 in their last 10 games. They have a 687 OPS,
which coincidentally enough tied at 18th with the Arizona Diamondbacks who also have a 687 team
OPS. The starting pitching ERA has been bad for them. It's 4.66, which is tied for 23rd. The relief
pitching ERA is 4.54, which is 19th, just slightly above where the Diamondbacks bullpen currently
sits, which I believe is at 22nd right now. And then they have two outs above average
defensively, which is tied for 12th in Major League Baseball. So again, not a lot has been going
right for the Blue Jays, at least for the Diamondbacks. They're starting pitching ERA, much better
than that. And their bullpen, you could argue, even though we can't subtract Joe Ross and Taylor
Roshy's performances, those guys are no longer.
longer in the bullpen and James McCann hopefully won't need to make another appearance
anytime soon. So I think if you subtract out those three runs, earned runs and
innings pitch between those three guys, the Ironback's bullpen is once again sitting
much higher at like above league average, above the midpoint. So I think that right now they're
in a good position to pounce on this Blue Jays team that isn't playing the best baseball right now
and kind of take advantage of the fact that they,
neither team offensively is doing great,
but at least pitching-wise,
the Diamondbacks seem to be in a much better position.
Yeah, catch them at the right time, right?
Yeah, exactly.
That's what it's all about.
I would much rather catch them right now than when they figure it out.
They're going to figure it out.
This is a great team.
You're absolutely right.
A couple fluke players away from winning the World Series last year.
So catch them now.
Also, John Schneider had an amazing blow up on an umpire when he got tossed,
and he was 100% in the wrong.
John Boy did an amazing breakdown of that.
So if you get a chance to check that out, it's worth your five to ten minutes for sure.
But let's take a look at the pitchers going into this series.
The Diamondbacks have Michael Soroka kicking things off here in the first game going up against Eric Lauer,
who's one and two with a 7.82 ERA this season.
He has 12 strikeouts.
Michael Soroka, 23 strikeouts so far in his three games performed or pitched.
And two of those games had 10 strikeouts.
out performances each.
Still amazing.
This man has made history.
When your name is categorized with Randy Johnson a few times,
you're doing things the right way.
But you also have Max Scherzer old friend going in game two
up against old friend Zach Gallen there.
Max Schurzer has a 9.58 ERA this year,
and he is one and two.
Meanwhile, Zach Gallen putting together a much better season.
Those last outing was very shaky,
both when he was doing well and,
when he wasn't, but he still has a 3.60 ERA currently and is one and one this season.
And then in the finale, we have Kevin Gousman, who is extraordinarily good going up against
Ryan Nelson, who is also pretty damn good. Gousman has a 2.42 ERA, 31 strikeouts this year.
Nellie has a 3.54 ERA. He is one in one with 19 strikeouts. So not a lot of run support for
their pitching staff up there in Toronto either. And again, this is like you said, a perfect time
to catch this team at the wrong time or at the right time for us and the wrong time for them
and hopefully get some wins here against the team that was just in the World Series.
Yeah, yeah, and we're catching, this is our second time catching first ballot Hall of Famer,
all-time great at the worst point of their career and Justin Verlander and now Max Scherzerzer
at age 41.
Hopefully Corby and Carroll can hit another home run.
I'll take it, I'll take it.
He's been hitting, he's been hitting dingers off of those guys.
It is kind of sad, man, watching Justin Verlander the way he was on opening day and now to see our old friend Max Scherzer.
I mean, I don't know.
It's baseball and pro wrestling.
It's those two things where sadly enough, you get to watch the person that you at one point admired due to how great they were, just slowly, like, declined before your eyes, right?
And it's just so much more pronounced with pitchers.
Right.
It's one thing to watch like a, I don't know, like a buster posy, I guess is the guy that I think of all-time great.
And then just who is this guy at the end of his career?
A lot of position players, no matter how good they were at one point, eventually can't hit the baseball anymore.
But it's just so much more pronounced with pitchers.
Yeah, of course.
Like Max Scherzer throwing 98 and then all of a sudden he can barely get it to 92.
It's just sad, man.
Right.
And again, you just get to a point where I understand you still wanting to play the game and I still understand you wanting to have something to give.
But I guess the big thing there is both of those guys are still starters.
And as we just discussed, there just comes a point where you need to kind of adapt during your career
and maybe find some other way to help a ball club win other than you being on the mound to start baseball games.
I mean, like it's not to say you can't adapt and become a pretty damn good, you know, reliever later in your career as many guys do because as the years go on, your body can't go out there and do six things.
Or change your approach.
Yeah, change your approach too.
There are guys who do change their exact.
Zach Granky.
Zach Granky is a perfect example of that.
Towards the end of his career.
He was able to adjust.
And then you look at a guy like Madison Bumgarger.
Right.
Who was still trying to pitch like he was in the World Series with the Giants when he's barely
getting 89, topping out at 89.
Randy Johnson Slider.
He uses to change.
Randy Johnson's slider at the end was so bad, like a legitimately bad.
But because, again, it's one of those things that he didn't have that great fastball
to set it up.
anymore and all sorts of other things. Pitching so bad for you.
Yeah. It's just so bad for you. It really is. I always bring this up, but I still remember
like sports science breaking down Steven Straussberg's like pitching motion and being like,
there's no way this guy is going to have a long career on ESPN saying that during sports science.
And then like he, I'd like two more seasons before he wrapped it up. But anyway, we're going to take a
quick break. We're done previewing Toronto. We think that they're going to be good, but hey,
we thought they were going to be bad on this road trip and then things went well.
So I don't want to judge or put out in the universe what I think is going to happen.
I just think that this is, once again, as Daniel said, a great time to catch this Toronto Blue Jans team.
I might need to say that I'm out again.
You might.
Yeah, no, Damon's going to get out on the team.
Yeah.
He needs to be out on Elamara Vargas, who by the way, we made a comparison.
The NL MVP race is heating up between Vargy and that guy, Shohay Otani.
David's guy
Show me.
Yeah, yeah, we put a staff
like comparison out there.
Don't do that.
Varg's my guy, man.
Yeah, we know it's not Damon's guy.
No, and I won't claim it because that would be
unethical of me to say that Vargas is my guy.
It definitely would be.
Unethical doesn't even begin to cover it.
No, but I'll like, listen.
Fraudulent.
Wow.
I mean, I've been a, I've been the bigger man here in this situation.
I feel like all I've ever done is is caught arrows and people attacking me.
I'm trying to apologize.
Damon does.
And then for some reason we all come over the top of him and we're like
Apologize more and harder and better clown and I'm like geez guys we saw what you said we heard what you said

I still love reliving 2023.
Not only do I love reliving the moment where all of us were in PHNXHQ2,
hugging and screaming and crying because the Diamondbacks-
I blacked out. If you watched that video, I blacked out. I don't know what happened.
Yeah, no, that's why we had needed video, so we had proof of what happened.
But this was, you know, not long after the Diamondbacks had defeated the Dodgers,
they defeated the Phillies and the NLCS, and they moved.
on to the World Series. And one of the things that I, you know, have the biggest memory of is
where we got to celebrate in our own pool after winning against the Dodgers. And now when you go
back and you watch that amazing video and enjoy it the way that we all want to enjoy it,
the one thing you will notice that is no longer present at Chase Field is not members of the
roster that used to be here. No, no, no, no. It is the pool sponsor that is plastered everywhere
in that video when you're watching it. It is a...
ice cream, not ice cream,
well, it became an ice cream company, but it was
a frozen yogurt company
known as Kremely.
And the Athletic just did
an amazing article from Sam Bloom
and Cody Stavenhagen on this
covering what essentially
has become a huge
case of fraud and misrepresentation
and also
avoiding the
I don't know, the debts
that you owe. It's just a
weird situation here.
And it involves the Diamondbacks.
The Arizona Diamondbacks are one of two Major League Baseball teams
that partnered together with Kremely in order for them to have multiple sponsorship deals.
I mean, it's crazy.
They sponsored the pool.
They were the in-game pool sponsor, pool naming rights.
They had signage all around Chase Field.
I even think they had tiles in the pool that said Kremelie,
plus an in-stadium presence with a stand.
The greatest stadium.
you've ever seen your entire life. Oh, yeah. I think now it's like a beer stand or something. But yeah,
it was very bright, had like high end. Everything about it looked high end. It was supposed to be this
high end French style keto frozen yogurt brand. Keto being a big part of that. It claimed that it was
health-focused ingredients, that it was a healthy alternative to ice cream. It had big growth potential.
And it was a philanthropic mission by this company because they were claiming that
100% of the proceeds were going to support girls globally, which now reading that back,
that right there probably should have been a red flag.
A hundred percent of the profits are going to support girls globally.
Like, what does that even mean?
I mean, what does that even mean?
What the hell does that even mean?
No one stopped to think like, hey, question, what does that mean?
Right.
But Kremlin struck them.
Their answer would be like the Chappelle, like, as the president gift.
where he throws the water and runs out.
You know, that's what I envision, right?
And that's what this whole thing kind of actually was, believe it or not.
I mean, nobody even knew what the hell Kremlin was.
It was just this company that popped up out of nowhere,
but the reason most of us baseball fans knew
is because Kremlin had struck a multi-year partnership
with the Diamondbacks and with the Angels.
And with the Diamondbacks, again, it was pool naming right,
signage, in stadium presence, big stand.
One of the things that was always weird to me
was I remember they were present at like the What's New at Chase Field event that we love to attend.
And when they went to go serve us their like keto yogurt that I really had no interest in because
I'm a fat guy that loves real ice cream.
It was like pre-packaged bars, you know, like you go over to an ice cream stand at a stadium
or whatever and you expect it to be soft serve out of a machine or ice cream like at Coldstone
scooped out of a thing, right?
A scooped out of a ice cream bucket, barrel, whatever.
called those, right? But instead, these were like all pre-made packaging and it was just the whole
thing was weird. It didn't really feel like something that you would get in a stadium. It felt like
something more for like the supermarket that you buy and keep it hauled. And they had a vendor go through
the stands too, selling. Correct. Correct. Yeah, they had a guy like with a thing on. Yeah, right,
right. And with the angels, it was even worse because the angels, they had determined that they were going to
do like in-game promotions. Like they were going to have like the hot dog race kind of. But with
Kremlin frozen bars, I guess, running the field or whatever. But there was branding at Angel
Stadium. I mean, the combined value of the two deals exceeded $5.75 million. And mind you, that is what
this company is supposed to be paying these major league baseball teams in order to have all of this
advertisement, all of this inclusion at their ballpark, right? And again, you remember the branding.
You've seen it if you've ever been to Chase Field over the last few years. But apparently the whole thing,
was like a Ponzi scheme.
It was all fraud.
It was all just,
it's just the weirdest case of a company essentially having entirely too much money
out of the gate as far as investment capital is concerned.
And using that investment capital to just fool everyone into thinking that this company
was a bigger,
more successful company than they were.
And they left everybody holding the bag.
It wasn't just the Diamondbacks.
It wasn't just the Angels.
They left the farm that they got their resources from holding the bag.
The level of fraud in this is wild.
It's insane.
They had this luxurious office in Scottsdale, Arizona.
You know, like, there's just a lot that is crazy.
And, of course, basically it comes down to this guy, Stephen Delaportis, who apparently has had fraud allegations and guilt and, like, basically actual guilty verdicts against him that go back years.
and nobody really just at this company or starting this company ever like did their due diligence into a background search on him to find out that essentially he has a history of using companies that are kind of shell companies and not paying partners and eventually abandoning them.
In fact, it's kind of hilarious, but this guy who is the central figure of this whole fraudulent case has now moved on to be like part of an alkaline water company.
That's so wild.
This man has no shame.
No.
You thought that a scammer like that wasn't already onto his next scheme?
Oh, yeah.
I mean, grifter's got a grift, right?
And again, under his leadership, the company spent a ton of money.
They hired, and according to this report, they hired employees in rapid succession,
and they offered them huge salaries because some of these people were like high-end officials
actually working for, you know, a legitimate company.
You know, they were making a good living somewhere else, and they left their jobs to come work.
To come to this.
For this fraudulent company.
Then, and again, it was the promise of future company equity.
They had this beautiful office in Scottsdale.
It was just crazy.
They had this whole advertising premise that they were authentic French frozen yogurt.
They even had the French flag on the thing with the Eiffel Tower in the background.
And again, it was it was billed as a company giving, you know,
money away and doing things the right way and making ice cream healthier, like, or frozen yogurt,
better, you know, whatever the case may be. It was billed as a company that would give away
100% of their profits to empower girls globally. And the products were said to be made by top
chefs and nutritionists using sheep's milk to keep the yogurt lactose and keep it keto friendly.
And apparently, all of that was bull. All of that was crap.
They basically started this company, and from what it sounds like, they never actually had to figure out the frozen yogurt lactose part.
Which should be step one of starting a company.
I'm going to make a froyo company.
One, you should probably know how to make frozen yogurt.
How to actually do the thing that you're wanting to do?
How about that?
Let's start with the product first.
This is what happens, I mean, especially in this day and age where too much money opens entirely too many doors.
for you and that's exactly what happened.
That is why teams got caught up in this because this wasn't negligence.
This was just a classic startup scam pattern of making a company look like it was something bigger
and then, of course, you know, again, again, pulling the rug out from it later.
Nothing about this could have, I don't feel I could have really been properly looked at or
acknowledged by the teams.
I don't blame the teams for this.
This is just another partner.
Their job throughout the season is to find partners,
and many partners do not have the capital or the money
to advertise at the pool or have us big in stadium presence.
But when you come across a meeting with a partner and they're like,
yep, here's 20 million.
Millions and millions.
Like they can't wait to shovel the money out fast enough.
Then it's, I mean, I don't know.
I don't blame them for getting into it.
The defense weren't the only team, obviously.
We had the angels because, of course.
Those were the two biggest ones.
But other teams, but Red Sox met Knicks and Celtics.
Yeah.
Right.
Because they put their product in stadiums everywhere.
And like the biggest thing for me looking back, did you ever see anybody in line at that place?
I don't think I ever did.
Never.
I remember walking by.
It's like, man, I feel kind of bad for them.
Like they spent all this money and nobody's going there.
But now you see why.
Well, that was part of the issue.
Honestly, part of the constant issue was actually scaling and reproducing the product.
Right?
They didn't have product.
So when you went there, there was a limited amount of inventory.
Their formula as a soft serve, apparently according to the article, was too thick.
And it would like break soft serve machines because, again, they hadn't figured out how to like serve it.
It's like freaking popsicles.
That's what I'm saying.
They were trying to find ways to deliver the ice cream to the stadiums.
And like I said, typically with ice cream or yogurt, excuse me, you just kind of scoop it out or you put it in a soft serve machine.
one of those two ways.
So they were trying to find a way.
And again, they rushed without it being properly thought out vetted for popular formula,
a recipe being determined.
They just rushed it out and they're breaking.
They're breaking soft serve machines because the concoction is too thick.
Employees were taking bars home and trying to cut them with a knife and couldn't because
of how the consistency of it.
And that's after leaving it in a car and then driving it home.
They couldn't.
They were laughing about the idea of customers taking this.
back to their seat and trying to eat it at a ballpark. I mean, I just can't get over the fact that
they were a soft serve company and all they did was break soft serve machines. I know. Well, I mean,
again, it's like this is what happens when the idea of getting where you want to go is far more
important than the product that you're offering to people, right? One employee said six months in is
when I knew nothing made sense. These costs don't make sense. The finances don't make sense. Then
comes the multi-million dollar multi-million dollar deal with the angel stadium and we all just sat
there like hold on we haven't earned a single dime of revenue and yet we just went and spent how much
on a contract and that's when things we're starting to not add up right because of course they're not
seeing the lack of um they're not seeing the the work being done because they are the workers that
are supposed to be doing the work so employees that went on didn't go on record because i think a lot of
them signed non-disclosure agreements but they still gave you know comments to the
athletic about this.
They were talking,
there's just a lot of talking about them not doing anything.
Yeah.
Sitting in the office watching YouTube clips and stuff,
like,
because it was more of like the image that they were a company and not actually doing
the work.
But again,
there was a problem with production,
sporting venues questioned the lack of product available at their
ballpark stands.
And then employees that are there are the ones that,
like,
I don't know,
like the ones working the stand.
They don't know why there's not.
product, but then they reached out to Kremlin executives and a representative from the Diamondbacks
and Angels would reach out to like other employees directly. And again, the employees were also in the
dark. Nobody knew what was going on. One interesting tie to the Diamondbacks was that the
Kremlin did hire a man named Brendan Cunningham, who was a well-respected sports marketing
professional that worked for the Diamondbacks. And they hired him away to work for them because he gave
them with his background in sports,
specifically in baseball, he gave them
credibility, and he helped them
build trust within these Major League Baseball
teams. So that was
part of the way that they made their way
in overall, but things just
again, started falling off the railings
overall for this team and
invoices were sent. They weren't paid.
The angels essentially were owed
close to a half a million dollars,
which they
have now sued the company for.
The Diamondbacks filed suit,
alleging Kremlin failed to make its second, third, and fourth payments for the 2024 season,
accruing a past due balance of $358,000 plus dollars.
The Diamondbacks overall lost out on $2 million, according to a Kremlin employee.
And I mean, again, this is one of those situations where we could sit here all day and ask,
how did this happen?
How does a company fall for this?
How did, I mean, how did all these employees fall for this where they left,
prominent jobs and came over. I think at the end of the day, especially when new opportunities arise,
you have a choice in life, whether you trust it or not. And sometimes, sometimes the offer is too
alluring for you to think things through. Yeah, you see that amount of money. You're like, yeah,
yeah, of course. Where do I side? That's it. And it comes down to employees that took the job being
guilty of that. Like, again, teams? Like, you're in a meeting and they're like, how much of naming rights?
you're like, it's normally $250,000.
They're like, we'll give you $250 million.
You're like, all right, let's sign this contract.
Let's pop this bottle of champagne, baby.
You know what I mean?
Like baseball is just so flooded with weird situations like that.
Well, sports.
Sports as a whole, right?
Minute made part or whatever is it, what is it now?
And Houston, it was Enron.
Enron Field.
Enron Field.
Oh, don't even get me a while there.
Umpires wore FTX logos on their uniforms.
Like, we've talked about that so many times here.
So baseball has proven at times they don't make the best decisions.
But again, you know, umpires with FTX.
Every single year when you go to Chase Field, there are new vendors and stuff there.
And some of them don't work out.
Some of them aren't even fraudulent.
Some just aren't the company doesn't work out.
Scoop Wells is non-existent.
And I love Scoop Wells.
And my friend Tim still is, he has kids that are addicted to Scoop Wells and he got addicted
by bringing him the Chase Field.
Now Scoop Wells doesn't exist.
And the kids don't want other ice cream.
They want scoop well.
So that happens in life.
And again, it's understandable when companies, unfortunately, go under like that because they overcommit,
especially in the case of being, you know, at a high level on a, you know, a ballpark or arena or stadium, right?
But that's not the case with this company.
This company was fraud from the beginning.
And it was all orchestrated by not the, not the, you know, woman behind it that invested and paid money in it.
It was all this one guy whose exact, you know, existence is building shell companies and defrauding people of money and then ditching out on everything, including the employees who all just kind of got laid off randomly out of nowhere in order to just move on to his next alkaline.
Alkaline or one shirt.
Yeah, so be sure to wear your Cremely D-Bags branded shirts that they would throw it at the T-shirt.
Hey, we got towels with Cremley on it.
Those are collector items now, baby.
My favorite part, though, is when one of the things that was left in the office behind, that was, it was like destroyed and strewn about, they have pictures of it on this article.
But one of the things that was left behind was apparently an advertisement for that new company that he works for, Alkaline 88, that had shack on the advertisement.
And it's like this guy.
If there's one thing we've learned about Shakil O'Neal is if the money's right, he's going to be on the ad.
He's going to be there.
Him in Steve dog?
If you show out the money,
ain't nothing they can't do.
My friend Josh bought him a taco at Jack in the Box one time
just so that he would endorse him on Twitter.
And he did.
It's all it costs 99 cents for two tacos.
That's all you need.
Yeah.
Well, I will defend that taco until the day I got.
Listen, listen, I'm a vegetarian.
I've gone vegetarian.
I don't need it.
But the things that I miss, I miss that Jack and Box tacos so much.
I miss it so much.
All right, no free ads.
But we'll get out.
Let's do some actual ads here.
And then we're going to take a look at the schedule ahead.
Don't you guys go anywhere.
You're watching the PHAX Diamondback Show.
If you are ever in an accident or serious injury, you have to call the husband and wife
law team first.
Of course, the lawyer you hire does matter.
And Mark and Alexis Breyer are the husband and wife law team.
They are trusted members of this valley that we all live in.
And they have been for years.
They also bring hundreds of years of combined trial experience to their firm.
And they have multiple certified specialists in personal.
injury and wrongful death. And that's important because here in Arizona, the state bar has
certified less than 1% of all lawyers is specialists in injury and wrongful death litigation,
making them experts in the field. They also know what needs to be done in a courtroom to prevail
in front of the jury. They are ready to go to trial for you and they will get the job done.
Now, they can't guarantee the outcome of any case, obviously, but they can make some promises to you
as their client. The most important being that at any time you can cancel your fee agreement with them,
For any reason, you will receive at least as much in your pocket as they receive for their fee,
even if they have to reduce their attorney fees to do so.
And you may speak with one of their lawyers as often as you choose about anything you wish to discuss,
even if that's the way Pardomo is currently performing.
But again, if you've had a serious injury, call the husband and wife law team first at 602,
783-841 or visit the website at the link in our show notes and tell them PHMX sent you.
I know Mark Breyer believes in Perdome.
Mark Breyer's a ball knower, so I mean, he probably has some concerns, but he believes.
He believes.
I also believe that there is no party without Casa Amigos ready to go Margs.
You can enjoy the World Cup, this World Cup season with Casa Amigos ready to go Margs,
whether you're bringing your friends together, fellow fans or your frenemies,
the people, of course, that love your, love your rival team, bring them all together
with one Casas Amigos Margarita at a time.
No matter who you're supporting, you can say,
with the Casamigos a margarita.
Now with their new, ready to enjoy,
uh, delicious Casamigos Margaritas that, of course,
feature a couple of different flavors.
They got classic lime and spicy.
Are you going classic lime or spicy?
Spicy.
Always spicy.
Always spicy.
Always spicy.
Uh, just 110 calories per serving.
And they are made with real juice.
They have, uh, just simple ingredients in their,
Blanco tequila, lime juice and natural flavors.
And of course, they are ready to rival any of your favorite hangout spots.
So just have that same delicious, uh, enjoyment at home.
cork, pour over ice, and garnish with lime.
Casa amigos, the drink of the World Cup, whether you're at your favorite spot or stocking up for
home, make it a Casa Amigos.
One thing I wanted to bring up before we moved on from the Kremlin disaster, if you will,
is that the Angels, part of their lawsuit, alleged this, that essentially Kremlin never
actually had a viable formula for this.
And again, it's kind of been proven with some of the things, like we said.
said the breaking of the soft served machine and like one employee taking it home and not being able
to stab a knife through the bar. But they did find that when they essentially ran out of their
actual product to serve, that they were taking third party ice cream and fraudulently passing
it off as its own. And now think about this because it's actual ice cream, like third party
ice cream. This is a company that is telling people that this is a keto friendly yogurt made
with sheep's milk and instead they're just grabbing hog and das vanilla it's just like like it's just like the sonic bars with
yeah with the eye the gumball eye right and an ex-marketing employee said he was asked to create fake like or create
cremally labels not fake ones they were real they were they existed and they were made by cremally so they're
real labels but they were they were making labels to put on generic ice cream it's wild it's crazy right
like the fraud is is all bad like making a
product that isn't good, that you didn't test, that you have no idea how to actually make,
that you don't know the recipe and you don't know the formula, but you're still making all
of these crazy claims that it's healthy and good for you and all this life-changing kind of
frozen yogurt, that's fine. But then on top of that, when it didn't work out, you were just like,
well, screw it. Let's put a label on this.
There's a Chaco, Taco, Taco. It's got to Kroger's and get to rice cream. Oh, man. Insane. Insanity.
But we thought the schedule for the Diamondbacks was going to be insane.
speaking of insanity.
And overall, it actually has so far been working in their favor.
The Diamondbacks sit here, what, three games above 500 now,
which still seems hard to believe to me.
And when you look at the schedule ahead for the rest of the month,
things don't look terrible.
No.
Terrible.
What we have here, we have three games, of course, this weekend against the Blue Jays.
That's followed up by three games at home against the White Sox.
And then Damon and I, sadly,
will not be going to Mexico, but we will be covering this Mexico City series here on the weekend,
two games against a red hot Padres team.
And it's amazing how this whole thing changed because even at the beginning of the season,
the Padres got off to a little bit of a slow start,
and you kind of got the feeling that maybe this was opposite.
We saw the White Sox beat some teams,
but they had no business beating at times.
And you're like, maybe this isn't great.
But overall, these two teams ahead of us seem like they are very beatable.
and then that two-game short series
with the Padres being in Mexico City,
anything can happen.
Yeah, who knows?
Lord knows anything can happen, right?
But yeah, I mean, overall here...
There's a chance to really put some space
between you and that 500 mark.
And that's what they really need to do.
That's absolutely what they need to do
because, again, the Mets are a disaster right now.
Danhausen uncurcing them,
couldn't even fix that team.
And some other teams, honestly,
in the National League,
that would probably be considered,
you know a potential
playoff team
a potential wildcard team
are also not playing well
like a lot of the teams
in the NL East
we say it all the time
you can't win a division
you can't win a wildcard spot
in April but boy you can lose it
and as long as the debacks aren't losing it
and putting some space
you're feeling pretty good
going into May especially
you know as we said talking about
going getting those big guns back
right feeling pretty good
but it's also just this
you got to give credit where credit is due
the only reason why they're winning these games right now
are guys that you just wouldn't expect
to be leading the way.
Ilamar Vargas, MVP candidate,
Jose Fernandez, rookie of the year candidate.
You can say you didn't expect it from Varg,
but that's my dog, maybe.
Harg's always my dog.
Jorge Barrosa, another perfect example.
His numbers aren't incredible,
but I mean, the amount of extra base hits he's had
from a nine-hole hit.
Yeah, exactly.
In some big situations, it's just,
it's nice to see,
and it's that exact production
we were hoping we would get to compliment the production of Cotel Corvin and Perdomo.
And for right now, Corbin's the only one out of those three that's really doing what those three are known to do.
But again, with the production from the six through nine, five through nine parts of the lineup,
this team has been winning baseball games.
And with this pitching staff doing what they're doing, you're starting to feel pretty good about this team overall, right?
And then again, we also have the inevitable return of one.
one guy after the next. We got Lourdes on deck next. Then I don't know, probably maybe
AJ Puck or Jordan Lawler, and then the other one, then Pavin, and then Corbin Burns, and then
Justin Martinez, and just a lot of good things to look forward to that should hopefully
keep this team kind of getting just from one little island of motivation to the next.
Things might get worse in between, things might get dark, but then again, you're like,
well, next week we got this guy coming back. So that looks good. But speaking,
Speaking of this week and next week, I will be out tomorrow.
I am leaving this show in the very capable hands of these two.
So make sure to join them for a postgame show after game one of that Toronto Blue J series.
Then for possibly the first time in the history of Damon and I doing this show,
there is no Monday episode this coming up week because of Diamondbacks do not play.
They are going to play next weekend in Mexico City.
So we are actually off on Monday and next Friday, but we will be bringing you in lieu of that.
as requested, as we've been shamed for not working hard enough at times by the chat.
We'll be bringing you five postgame shows next week,
including the two games on the weekend for that Mexico City series versus the Padres,
and then those three games during the middle of the week as well there against the Chicago White Sox.
So make sure to join us for that.
We'll also be doing a watch-along of game two next Sunday.
So, of course, join us for that as well.
The journey says no mailbag Monday.
I don't know what to say.
I don't even know how to go on with my life without doing a mailbag Monday,
but we will be okay.
We will give it a rest one week,
and then we'll be back the next week when Damon and I will work like 100 days in a row.
So there's that.
And Jason says,
kill his peer pressure worked, yeah, basically.
It always works.
The peer pressure always works on us.
So I am susceptible to that.
But love you guys.
Thank you guys so much for being here.
Of course, you can follow us all on social media.
I'm at cap underscore caveman with a K,
Daniel's Aberaca Daniel
Is that right?
Yep.
I got that one right.
Of course, Damon is at Damon dog.
You all know that.
And it ends with a DAWG because we're all Damon's dogs.
Bark, bark.
Our shows at PHNX underscore D-Backs, but all roads lead to at PHNX underscore sports on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
Thank you guys again so much for your time.
Appreciate you.
I'm going to be off for four days and I might not come back.
So these two might be your new host.
We'll see.
No guarantees that I'm going to make it back.
But, of course, have yourselves a wonderful weekend.
I get to say that now.
And remember, kids, baseball's fun, but it's so much more fun when you take a break from it.
