Starting point is 00:00:11 Well, that sucked. A skee to you all tonight. Welcome in to the PHNXD back postgame show. Of course, my name is Derek Montia. Occasionally known as your mayor of the postseason. This is my tag team partner known as the hot tag himself, Patrick Lyons. And of course, we will have Jesse Friedman, my vice mayor, the thunder stick, the thunderstick, Patrick, joining us later from Citizens Bank Park, where Philadelphia is absolutely the vortex of the sports world tonight.
Starting point is 00:00:40 but wasn't so great for the Arizona Diamondbacks. And they lost in a historic fashion tonight when it comes to a lot of things. First, shutout loss in Arizona Diamondbacks history in the postseason? Never, yes, they'd never been shut out before in 40-some games. Worst loss of the season? Previous. Worst shutout loss of the season. They lost 9-0 to the Padres in April.
Starting point is 00:01:07 they lost by 11 runs one other time but shutout loss worst of the year yeah yeah the Phillies look like an unstoppable beast at this point and of course we know that a lot of that is is based on them playing at home having that crowd behind them but also a lot of it is this philly's team is just absolutely built for the postseason it's incredible it just seems like it's one monster on offense after the next Kyle Schwabber absolutely tore up the diamond back tonight single-handedly. His offense alone was enough for the diamondbacks to lose. I'm not hanging this one on Merrill Kelly. Merrill Kelly didn't have a great outing tonight, but I still feel like maybe Merrill Kelly could have stayed in this game and prevented two of
Starting point is 00:01:53 the runs that were charged to him from scoring. I don't really know. I mean, again, this wasn't a good night for anybody, but realistically, the offense wasn't able to put any runs on the board. and that's that's really where what all this comes down to. I'm sure once things got out of control, I'm sure it was demoralizing for the team, hard to go in there. You know, again,
Starting point is 00:02:15 the Diamondbacks aren't good when they think that they, when they start getting that thought in their head that they need to hit five home runs and one at bat, but it definitely felt like tonight that the pressure just crept up on them. The Phillies just kept hitting these. Like even the home runs that were hit against Merrill Kelly once they were up to nothing. Again, two-run deficit still somehow felt like a 10-run deficit with the way the things were going,
Starting point is 00:02:38 and that crowd was just incredible in Philadelphia. Yeah, there was just points where, with it being two-nothing after the third inning, and it will, of course, break down how all those runs scored, but it was just one of those things of there's no momentum on the Diamondback side. So two runs can be a lot. You know, there are opportunities where runners were on base, and you go, hey, fly ball, that just creeps over, you know, the wall can get the job done and you tie the ball game. and unfortunately that that never really happened.
Starting point is 00:03:04 Aronola was on one similar to what Zach Wheeler was able to do. He was really good in game one. And the Diamondbacks get shut out. Only four hits today. They have three hits yesterday. And so giving up 10 runs is only half the problem, half the issue so far through these first two games. That's really where I'm at.
Starting point is 00:03:22 And unfortunately, we thought that this was going to be a problem for the Diamondbacks earlier on in the playoffs and they somehow overcame it. They were able to put up runs against some very good. starting pitchers in the Brewer series. They were able to absolutely decimate the Dodgers for one game of that series. But then their offense kind of cooled off even in that Dodgers series, but they were still putting up four runs per game and two wins. And hopefully you thought that would carry over.
Starting point is 00:03:48 It's just been a problem for this team all year long, where you think things are on a role, you think this team is good offensively and that they're putting some things together, even with an absence from several members of the starting lineup. So you start thinking, man, if Gabrielle Moreno can get locked in, if a couple of other these guys can get locked in, you know, this is this is going to be different. And tonight for the team, it just wasn't. The Diamondbacks just were absolutely outclassed in every way by the Philadelphia Phillies in every way. And this was the kind of loss that we wanted to prevent in game one. And we thought that at least with the way they were able to hold it and not let it get outrageous like this, that it was a good sign for the series.
Starting point is 00:04:31 not now. I mean, this makes it hard to have a positive outlook at all for the rest of the series. And I mean, the only thing the Diamondbacks have going for them really is that they get three games in a row at home at Chase Field and away from that environment for a while. But
Starting point is 00:04:47 even then, I feel like the odds are stacked against them now with this O2 deficit. We talked about so much in the pregame about how this is such a must win game. And of course, being down O2 doesn't mean it's over. You're still going to play at least two more games. So we'll see what happens.
Starting point is 00:05:02 We also talk pregame this idea of Corbyn Kelly stealing some bases, the Diamondback stealing bases, which is very hard to do if you're not reaching base between Wheeler and Nola, 12 innings pitch. They didn't walk a single hitter between those two games. But we talked about Corby and Carroll, and that's where the game began. You know, Carol reaches base on a weird ground ball that looked like a base hit up the middle. Yeah. It hit off the side of the mound and kind of almost went right to Trey Turner.
Starting point is 00:05:31 Couldn't field it. He reaches base on an error. Don't want to take the bat out of Cote's hands. He's got a home run against Aaron Nola already this year. He stays at first, fine. Marte strikes out. Similar to, not similar, exactly what happened in game one on Monday. Second batter up Tommy Fam strikes out.
Starting point is 00:05:51 Continuing the pattern from Monday in game one. And then Christian Walker pops out. And that seems like that was the only threat of this entire ballgame from Arizona. now as an inning one. Yeah, absolutely. And the off-interest, absolutely, when quiet. I mean, Tommy Fam has not been good in this series at all. Lordus, again, did not really contribute.
Starting point is 00:06:15 And, I mean, so far, the Diamondbacks outside of their number one and number two hitters haven't been great in the postseason, you know, as it stands. But those two guys have been good. Right. Where did Lordis go? Right in the chat. It seems like every time he's come up, it goes, you know what? he's due. He's kind of
Starting point is 00:06:31 due right here. And you know, in game one, he stepped to the play in the ninth of the runner on and he go, I kind of got the sense, he's due. He might home me here. I wonder. And then after the first pitch, you go, you know what? Actually, this could be a game ending double play. That's what it ended up
Starting point is 00:06:47 being. Yeah, that's what it would be. Well, Corbyn and Kutel entering the night, we're combined going 16 for 47 for a 340 batting average this postseason so far with a 638 slugging percentage. and a 1.064 OPS. So those guys have been doing it.
Starting point is 00:07:04 But again, even tonight, Corbyn wasn't very effective. Kattel was. He went, you know, he had the double. He had two hits. But the rest of the offense was non-existent. So there are so many things here that the Diamondbacks, so many ways the Diamondbacks got beat here by the Phillies. But they just deserved the credit.
Starting point is 00:07:21 I mean, especially once the, that Tori Lavello decided to pull Merrill Kelly after he went five and two thirds, gave up three hits, four earn runs, three walks, six strikeouts. Joe Manfred's probably was just awful. Not good. He faced six batterers and four of them reached. I think all of the runs scored. The bullpen had allowed prior to this game,
Starting point is 00:07:43 four runs in six postseason games entering tonight. They allowed, what, six tonight? Six. It was six, yeah. It was five of all the point. They got more, yeah. So they allowed six tonight. So this is just one of those situations where,
Starting point is 00:07:57 obviously, the Diamondbacks like I mean the last night's loss I felt like there was a way to overcome it I did feel like tonight's game was a must win game for this team but there was even a way they could have lost it that wouldn't have seemed so bad like this definitely feels this definitely feels like it it has implications to the series being over and I don't know what the Diamondbacks are going to do with their starting rotation going forward which we'll talk about here in a little bit but the bullpen again just really really bad for this team and and it has been good really just a strength for them over the last great you know plus so it doesn't look great no and and you talk about it just things kind of being upside down top seat turvy with the bullpen just all kind of getting erased tonight you know the worst postseason loss this entire playoffs was the game one win by the diamondbacks 11 to 2 in la nine run you know differential there nine run win and now the worst losses this 10-0 defeat at the hands of the Philadelphia, Philly.
Starting point is 00:09:02 So look, it's just wild how that ends up working out. And it seems unsurmountable, I think, in a way for the Diamondbacks right now and Diamondbacks fans, partially because you look ahead to Wednesday and you say, oh, all right, we're not even going to get the reprieve Wednesday night for a game. You have to wait until Thursday. So it's almost like 48 hours that you're just waiting around for some kind of hope. And like you said, with it being such a blowout, you can't not trick yourself because look, if you only lose by two runs, you go, you feel decent about that. You didn't get outclassed.
Starting point is 00:09:35 This was an outclassing. This was an asswop. This is what it was. And I mean, there's lots of different, I mean, the Phillies were just very good tonight. That's all you got to give credit where credit is due. But there's a lot of things that you could look to and see that Diamondbacks made a lot of mistakes. You could question Tori not really going to any of his leverage relievers. Instead, you know, he turned to Joe Mantiply.
Starting point is 00:09:59 He turned, you know, to guys that he wouldn't normally turn to during the postseason for big innings. And it felt like, I don't know, maybe because it was just a sixth inning, maybe he was doing that. You know, he's kind of had guys fill a role. Ryan Thompson has been more of a seventh inning guy, ginkle eighth, Paul Sewell's ninth and in positive situations. But in this situation, it definitely feels like, you know, maybe that was a very important. Would you prefer Saul Frank? Would you have preferred Saul Frank over Mantiply? I probably would have preferred Ryan Thompson, but I mean, I feel like I would have preferred
Starting point is 00:10:33 a lot of people over, you know, like Miguel Castro or Joe Mantiply. That might have been a matchup. The matchup didn't even make a lot of sense to me, honestly. No. No, Stott hits sliders off lefties well, and that's what Mantiply threw them. And boom, that was that was the difference. Yeah. I would agree.
Starting point is 00:10:49 I would agree with that choice there in that spot. It's funny because I was even thinking, I think, America. Kelly entered the sixth inning at like 71 pitches and it almost seemed like wow he might be able to go fairly deep because the Phillies aren't really getting much off of him. Again, the solo home runs were
Starting point is 00:11:07 painful and that's all you needed was those three home runs the one by Schwabre his second of the game Phillies is their fourth multi-homer game tied for most ever with 2009 Phillies who did not win the World Series and the 2002 Angels who did win the World Series that year. So it did
Starting point is 00:11:23 sort of seem like wow, okay, you know maybe you don't even need the bullpen at that point. And then it got, you know, a little bit messy after that, after a couple base runners where Trey Turner immediately walked to get Harper to strike out. But it seems like that was that was his night. And Maniply, you know, if Tori had to do it again, you know, he might have gone a different way. I kind of agree with what Brian Corso said in the chat where it says it seemed like the guys that Tori chose almost seem like conceding. And again, it's not to insult any of those guys.
Starting point is 00:11:52 I know they're typically guys that he does turn to do in the sixth and, and such, but it really did not feel like it was, you know, like the game was out of reach at that point. Again, though, the offense was non-existent. So I think it was a piece of Yoshi who continues to blame me for these losses, by the way, like as if I'm out there playing this game. It's because I pick them in five. Yes, I did pick them in five. But I've also been picking them this whole time.
Starting point is 00:12:19 It was kind of a thing Sean and I were doing where Sean would pick against them. I would pick them. Maybe it's because Sean's not here that there's no balance. So maybe it's Sean's fault. I don't know. I think we can all get on board with blaming Sean. Here's the thing. Sean's not here.
Starting point is 00:12:33 And so you go, there's also someone else who hasn't been here. Right. Someone who hasn't been in the spot. Yeah. That also could be contributing to this. That is true. Anthony Totry has not been in the spot. We tried our best to get one of those religious candles that had Kevin Durant on it and put
Starting point is 00:12:49 Totry's face on it and put it in the spot. And it didn't work. But we want to give it. a shout out to our super chat. Of course, Andrew Dang, we always appreciate you being here. He said, don't cry, fellas. We lack experience with men versus boys. That's definitely, I hate to say it, but the men versus boys line, that's what it feels like against his Phillies team, because holy shit, those are, those are some aggressive men over there. Corbyn Barrel says we need to get out of this skid. Bring back Sean. Yep. See, there's the Sean talk. Two dollars to cheap,
Starting point is 00:13:18 cheap to fight for my guy. Bring back Mr. Electric. We've been on a bad skid without him. I have something to say about that. Go ahead. Go ahead. Is that we just bring back, Sean, as if we cast him aside. Yeah, as if we were the ones that got rid of them? Yeah. Like, I would get rid of the guy that brought the electricity.
Starting point is 00:13:34 Do you know how much we have to pay now in utilities around this place without Sean? The real thing. The real thing here is hashtag blame Sean. Hashtag blame Sean. Because we were undefeated before Sean left. Yeah. Yeah. No, I completely agree with that.
Starting point is 00:13:46 We were also undefeated during, you know, a sash season. And now I don't know what to think anymore. Can I shave the stash off now? Can we get rid of it? I don't know. Okay. And Jay says, where's Flex too? Flex was only coming through on wins.
Starting point is 00:14:01 So to be fair, Flex left the office before the game started. And he actually ran out to make sure he was gone as soon as possible because Flex feels like him being in the car has brought this team good luck. We've tried to do everything around this place to bring this team all the luck we can. And there's not much we can do to fix the mistakes that this team had. I mean, the sixth and seventh innings were. an absolute nightmare. Four and each.
Starting point is 00:14:23 I was talking to Jonathan Papelbon on the foul territory while the sixth inning was going on and he was talking shit to me. Yeah, reset just a little bit because that might sound like you're like texting or something. I was invited to be on the foul territory. If you're familiar with that show, it's incredible show, AJ Prisinski. There's a bunch of great guys over there. They invited me to join their watch party. And yeah, I mean, I might have gotten trash talk by Jonathan Papel Bon a bit.
Starting point is 00:14:49 And it's understandable. I somehow became a representative for this team on a night that probably wasn't a great night to be representative for this team at all in any way. But I'm definitely not proud of the mistakes that they made there, especially in the seventh inning. I mean, again, it's like you could keep saying this. You could keep beating the drum. The two runs that Merrill Kelly gave up in solo home runs, those were enough, right? Those were enough right there with the way that this team performed offensively to give the Phillies the win. But they just kept adding on and adding on.
Starting point is 00:15:18 And I mean, really, in the seventh inning, you had Longoria letting that pop fly drop in the infield. That was just an absolutely egregious mistake. He did so. You could read his lips. He said, I should have called for that. Yeah. I mean, that felt embarrassing in that position to see them make those kind of mistakes. It seemed like Gurriel lost track of how many outs there were.
Starting point is 00:15:38 Maybe because of that play? I don't know. There was only two outs when he made a catch that went basically as far as a goddamn baseball could go without leaving the ballpark. but man yeah there isn't much to say about this game other than the diamondbacks have a lot of things to fix and they have a day off to do so they're coming back here to chase field but again if you want to look at it positively you could say that the Phillies did what they were supposed to do they're supposed to win the games at home and you're supposed to hold on to those games to hold on to home field advantage they did so emphatically they did so they made a statement and they look like a very tough team you know to meet at this point I hate I hate the idea of still saying that we as fans should be satisfied with how far this team has come. And I know the team isn't satisfied. I know they don't want this to be the end of their journey here in the postseason. But there is still that that I know a lot of people, especially after tonight's game,
Starting point is 00:16:34 are going to feel pretty bad about this, you know, about where this team's at and about their chances in the series. But you still just got to feel good about how ahead of schedule they've been. And, you know, kind of give credit where credit's due to a really good Phillies team. And if you, you know, would like to see this team in person on Thursday, prices have never been better on game time. So I guess that's a positive thing on that. But, you know, there can be some momentum that obviously getting back home at Chase Field, that it's, you know, the Phillies are their special team.
Starting point is 00:17:03 You know, they're built for this postseason. They just got to get in. And, you know, they did it last year. And we saw it against Houston a little bit. They were able to go toe to toe. And they were the National League representative. They're, you know, on their way. They're halfway there.
Starting point is 00:17:16 Six wins away, whereas the Diamondbacks are still eight wins away. Yeah, look, they're going to put up a fight, and it's just they had Wheeler and Nola, two bosses right there, 12 innings pitched, 15 strikeouts against them. They only give up six hits. And Ranger Suarez is no slav. She's got like a slightly higher than one ERA in the postseason. So they'll have their works cut out for him. Dominic says you really think the Phillies won't smash fought? No, I did not say that at all.
Starting point is 00:17:41 I am absolutely terrified of that. That's such a tough spot. That's such a tough spot for fought, not trying to do a doctor season. thing here. Not trying to do a cat in the hat. Because that's that. You know, my name's Pat, by the way. No, so, Damon hates that. So the thing with Fah is, he had to start
Starting point is 00:17:56 to, cut his goddamn mic right now, I swear to God. You know, Fah had to go out there and make the first postseason start. And I feel like, and I said it before, it's sort of like, how do I do this? Like, what does this look like? Just have someone go before me and I'll know what to do. And, you know, he got it, got it handed to him in Milwaukee
Starting point is 00:18:12 a little bit. But then, game three, at home, he got to see gallon. He got to see Kelly go right in front of him. Okay, now I've got this. Now he's going to be going out there in game three at home, but down 02. And that's probably the hardest part. Damon, you want to comment on this?
Starting point is 00:18:29 No, I mean, I don't really have anything to say right now. I'm pretty discussed. You guys broke Damon. You broke Damon. But we do have to, again, give credit where credits do. Aaron Olin was very tough tonight, very good on the mound for the Phillies. And I think we have Christian Walker from the clubhouse discussing how tough he was to face off against for this offense.
Starting point is 00:18:49 I think his ability to locate, you know, he's got good stuff. You know, as hitters were waiting for mistakes. And me personally, I didn't get a lot of the heart of the play tonight. And you're forced to hit stuff on the edges as it makes our job hard. It's pretty simple. And I mean, after a game like this, you kind of keep it short and sweet. But it makes a lot of sense that Aaron Nola wasn't making mistakes because this team has been able to capitalize on those mistakes at times. they just really couldn't do it one guy was able to though yeah and that's our king snake which again
Starting point is 00:19:21 damon made this graphic under protest because he didn't feel anybody deserve the king snake tonight he could be right uh but could tell martay extended his postseason hitting streak now 11 games uh they you know he's he's been really good for this team uh and kind of the only one right now i mean especially in this series him and corbin uh they've they've continued to really be good in the post season but right now everybody else kind of dropped off so if the diamondbacks have any hope they need to get those bats working in game three and get some run support for brandon fought i'm glad there's some streak that continued 11 games in a row there to start too that that's the other piece it's not just 11 start his career it's actually to start his career so uh you know that's that's that's a lot for
Starting point is 00:20:03 for for for marquisie to do that i think only five players had ever had a streak longer than that uh to start their career marquis grissom 95 96 postseason with atlanta most recently in 2010. I think he had 11 game hits streaks by Elvis Andrews and Nelson Cruz, respectively. That streak continues, but the unfortunate talked about a pregame, go back and listen that too, because I think that's fun to go back and think what could have been. But the 17-game home run streak, unfortunately snapped out with the shout-out tonight. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:33 Sean in the chats. I don't know, Nola pitched good, but Dan Boehm saved his ass three times in the early hours. Innings kept us from advancing runners. Great call. Absolutely. He made some outstanding plays. Absolutely outstanding place. Things just weren't bouncing in the Diamondbacks direction in the night either.
Starting point is 00:20:46 No. When I say that, I think it was a marsh, the Marsh hit up the third baseline that kind of, like it was like a bend it like Beckham situation where this shit just went right around third base, you know, inside of the foul line, inside of the base and then like curved out. Like you could just tell things we're not going right for the Diamondbacks tonight. And I don't know. I don't know who upset the baseball gods, but I'm sure you guys, I'm sure Yoshi's going to blame it on me. So I will not be surprised by that.
Starting point is 00:21:15 But we appreciate all of you, including piece of Yoshi, for being here in the YouTube channel tonight. I need the known GM. Do we have our baseball GM, Elise, here as well? Elise is here tonight. Elise is present. Good, I've got to make sure. But of course, we thank all of you for being here.

Starting point is 00:22:43 You can get a little abovely on Circle K too. That's everything. And not to sound heelish, but I think I read a recent survey that Circle K is actually better than Wawa. I don't think anyone in the chat would disagree with that whatsoever. But I read it. I read it online. I read it online.
Starting point is 00:22:56 I love that. Join the Inner Circle for free. It was a head of Wawa. It was Circle K Sheets, Wawa. Yeah, I believe it. That's just what I read. Gold Star. Bravo.
Starting point is 00:23:07 Oh, man. Of course, also
Starting point is 00:23:42 a fun thing to do with your time during that game is to download the Draft King Sportsbook app. Get down on betting on this Diamondbacks team or betting on the series. Some fan ran on the field right at the end of the game, I think when the bullpen was running out onto the field and got absolutely trucked by a security guard.
Starting point is 00:25:19 Fantastic. People don't do that. I don't think we mentioned that on the show. That happened in game three. That did happen in game three. I mean, if you're watching on TV, you know, I don't know. I don't think they announce it anymore when it happens. They definitely don't, they definitely don't show it on camera.
Starting point is 00:25:33 You don't want to do that because that encourages that kind of behavior. But I don't even know if they mention it. But you'll know because you're like, you hear the crowd and they're making some noise. And you're like, nothing is happening whatsoever. And you could kind of tell a little bit. So that did happen for a little bit on game three. But even if you do it after the game, you're going to be banned. You're going to get arrested too.
Starting point is 00:25:53 And Baxter is not going to send you any cards on your birthday. Yeah, you don't want to get on Baxter's bad side. Come on. Baxter's no blooper. That's for sure. But we do have more from the clubhouse. I think we have a video from Tori Lovolo discussing. Merrill Kelly's night on the mount.
Starting point is 00:26:09 I actually thought he threw the ball okay. He gave up three home runs up to the point where I took him out of the game. It was right around the 90 pitchmark. And he was doing all that he could to keep us in the game. It was just, we couldn't get anything going offensively. I felt like we were putting a lot of pressure on him to keep us, keep it where it was, to give us a chance. and, you know, we never really,
Starting point is 00:26:38 the game had no flow to it, but I thought Merrill did a pretty, pretty good job of standing back out there and keeping us in the long air. Again, those home runs, those home runs, again, this is, I think that's part of the impact of the crowd, is watching it,
Starting point is 00:26:54 as a spectator, those home runs felt bigger than they were. Because even though I looked up and I was like, they're really just down two to nothing, it felt like 10 to nothing. It felt bigger than that. Yeah, like, and I don't, don't know if it was just when they occurred. I don't know if it's the fact that it was once again the Phillies going up early.
Starting point is 00:27:11 I don't know if it's just the hit parade that continued from game one that carries over to game two. And these guys are continuing to just, you know, hit dinger after dinger. But it, you know, like Merrill Kelly, I don't think was responsible for for this loss, to be honest. I just, I know it wasn't his best stuff because, you know, I don't even know. I don't even know if it was his best stuff. Like he said, you threw the ball well.
Starting point is 00:27:34 It's just hats off to the Phillies for the way that they are locked in right now and the way that they're able to make the Diamondbacks two pitchers not look very good at all. But realistically, I still think that Merrill Kelly did throw the ball well tonight. And I really feel like this loss is on the offense. And the bullpen because the bullpen really let things get out of control where this wasn't even a close game anymore. But the offense not showing up. Just, I mean, again, maybe allow, made Tori manage that bullpen. there differently than he would have in a different situation.
Starting point is 00:28:07 Sometimes when there's nothing happening, there's something about to happen. Like it's about to break and you can sense there's some kind of momentum being built or that the tide is about to turn. And it just hasn't felt that way tonight or in game one. And I know Tori was mostly talking about Merrill Kelly and his performance, but he said, you know, there wasn't much flow. It just didn't feel like there was that flow tonight.
Starting point is 00:28:32 And I sort of think when you have a game like that, you have to create that flow. You have to create that chaos. And I think that they've gotten away from that a little bit. They absolutely have. They haven't had many opportunities. We understand that. But at the same time, when guys are striking out,
Starting point is 00:28:47 you got to pick your spot and you just got a chance and say, you know what, if I can just get a guy to second base, that can get the job done. Even if even with Corbyn Carroll, if he can get the second base, a wild pitch, he's moving over to third base and on a ground out, I can tell Marte can just pull the ball to second base. of base you've got to run scored on and out and and and you can get something on that you have to
Starting point is 00:29:08 create your own flow and i think that's the thing that they've really been missing in these first two games yeah a couple of comments here can you scroll back there damon just a little bit ryan page's comment right there uh down a little bit uh he said philly's hitters are oozing with confidence they all just look like they can hit the ball 900 feet and the debacks just look afraid of the ball that's a very good description uhina jackson says it felt bigger than oh two because we weren't moving forward in the game no walks no stealing bases and we couldn't hold the game after kelly left it was a stalled out game uh the everybody everybody was asking i mean again on foul territory we heard yesterday immediately when he got on base everybody wanted to know why corbin carroll wasn't stealing
Starting point is 00:29:48 bases why corbin carroll wasn't trying to you know uh again create that chaos on the base path and uh here's tori lovolo on on them getting away from playing their brand of baseball or or attempting to play their brand of baseball. Griding out of bats, having mature out bats, driving pitch counts, catching pop-ups, picking up in baseball, you know,
Starting point is 00:30:09 the pitching and defense goes hand in hand, and we find a way to score five runs or more in a baseball game by just being a really smart, stubborn baseball team in all areas. He's still mad about that pop-up. He's still mad.
Starting point is 00:30:28 I mean, we should all be bad about that pop-up. And again, it's embarrassing. And like there's moments that, again, it's a culminated. You know, it was all of this stuff. But not one particular thing was why they lost. No, no, no. Why they lost is because the Phillies are just on another planet right now.
Starting point is 00:30:47 And honestly, I mean, again, I've given them so much credit during the show, but it's really impressive what they have going on over there. and it's honestly a shock that they were even a wildcard team. But I mean, that's why this team is. Atlanta. Well, they're constructed for the postseason. And that's the difference is you can have a team that's built like for the regular season that wins all of those games. The Dodgers and the Braves both did. But this team just just seems built for the playoffs.
Starting point is 00:31:15 Because playoffs are small sample size. Like during the regular season, that's the whole concept of Moneyball. And if you read the book or if you watch the film, it's, you know, baseball is a game of inches. but over the course of 162 games, this guy has more value than that guy. But in a one game scenario, your gut says, I think this guy can maybe squeeze something else out.
Starting point is 00:31:34 And you, over the course of a marathon season, you've got to ride certain guys out because statistically it shows they have more value over a full season. Well, in a game-to-game basis, you know, you might want a one-legged Kirk Gibson up at the plate
Starting point is 00:31:48 in the 1988 World Series against the best closer of his generation of Dennis Eckersling. And you go, that's the matchup. And it doesn't make any sense. And he hits home run. And the Miracles Department in Heaven claims that one for sure. It's one of their big hits.
Starting point is 00:32:03 But, man, let's take a look at the updated bracket for the postseason. I mean, I don't know why. I don't know why we're doing this. But, yeah, let's take a look at this. So many zeros. This entire postseason. A lot of zeros. Yeah, a lot of zeros.
Starting point is 00:32:16 I mean, you only have two games being won so far in the entire postseason up to this point by essentially the teams of teams. didn't advance. So a lot of dominance here. Imagine being Houston being down 02. And now you're on the road for three games. At least the diamondbacks are going to be home. At least the diamondbacks are going to be home?
Starting point is 00:32:36 See, we hear my voice going up higher. I know. I mean, I appreciate your enthusiasm. I mean, you're trying to sell it. And I appreciate that. Because, yeah, there is a, you could be at a worse position, right? But I don't know. I don't know if that's the case because, of course, the O2 deficit there in the postseason,
Starting point is 00:32:52 not great. Pretty bad. And when I say pretty bad, I mean, teams that have taken a 2-0 lead and the best of seven postseason series have gone on to win the series 75 times out of 89 times for an 84.2% conversion rate. Also, if you want to factor in, the LCS, 31 of 35 have gone on to advance for 88.6%. So only four times. Q the Lloyd Christmas meme. So you're saying there's a chance. They tell me there's a chance.
Starting point is 00:33:20 Yeah. I mean, I don't know much of a chance, but they do have Brandon Fott starting in game three, which I don't know if that brings a lot of comfort to a lot of people out there. And then we have to ask the question right now, even though we really don't want to, who is starting game four. So we will get to that. Anthony is once again asking where is Jesse. I've seen your comments, Anthony. Jesse will be here soon, okay? You just got to relax.
Starting point is 00:33:45 He's the main event here. We're just warming up the crowd. sometimes there's multiple, you know, warm-up acts. And in this case, Jesse is the main event. But he'll be here shortly. I'm also seeing some action on Twitter right now. There's some people in the Phillies media that got swept up in a crowd. And now they're doing post game for the Mexico game over at the link.
Starting point is 00:34:05 It's just like wild. It's that. It's the Flyers home opener. And they're all like right there. He was in the Flyers locker room there for a second. He was in the Flyers locker room interviewing the Mexican national soccer team. Right? There's just too much happening in Philly right now, but Jesse's there.
Starting point is 00:34:21 We're kind of sorting it out. We're figuring out what's what. Don't worry, though. We'll get them here soon enough. And I mean, I mean that because I will not sleep tonight if I don't hear from Jesse. It's just a parental thing I have going on. But we do before we talk about game three and game four stars, we do have Merrill Kelly talking about how tough those Phillies hitters were tonight. I think they're just, they're good big league hitters, right?
Starting point is 00:34:42 That's what good big league hitters do. They don't miss mistakes. You know, and they've been playing well. they've been rolling through the playoffs just like we have you know they came into the bank and I did what they were supposed to do I mean he seems matter of fact but like yeah that's it I mean
Starting point is 00:34:58 they're good and they were good and like again we talked about Jesse's article during the pregame show but the Diamondbacks really haven't had to deal with the actual stars stepping up in the postseason the way that the Phillies superstars have stepped up so far in these two games and I mean again it's it's something that that they deserve the credit for.
Starting point is 00:35:19 Merrill Kelly, again, he gave the Diamondbacks an opportunity to win. He was competitive tonight. The Diamondbacks offense, unfortunately, wasn't. He didn't have the look or the sound of a guy that was disappointed that his season's over because he's not going to be able to start game five or game six because it's a sweep. So, you know, this team has kind of experiences before. You know, it was on a much larger scale in the second half when they had that historic collapse. But on a short scale, you know, they've never really bounced back in this kind of way,
Starting point is 00:35:52 but look, this is why you play the games and that's what they're going to do. You know, and that's sound like a broken record. So they're going to be back again. They're going to have a practice day tomorrow, a workout day. And hopefully that allows things to reset just a little bit, sleeping in their own beds and just feel a little bit more comfortable like, okay, we're going to, we're going to get this thing figured out. Obviously, Citizens Bank Park, like you said, it's another planet. CBP, Citizens Bank Planet. Like that's what. We're going to, we're going to get this really what it should stand for. But those games are not going to be there.
Starting point is 00:36:20 So maybe that neutralizes things. And so if it only neutralizes it, maybe that only means one win for the Diamondbacks. Maybe that means two. But if it is two, that means you're going back to Philly. So, you know, there's a lot left to play. And I think even if we're talking about two more losses for the Diamondbacks, these next two games, there's pride on the line. There's this idea that, hey, let's give ourselves some momentum going into next season
Starting point is 00:36:45 to know, because if we're going to try to try to, go back to the NLCS in in 2024 and in 2025, we're going to be doing it against these same Phillies teams. So we might as well go out there and kind of, you know, chip away a little bit, a little bit away at them right now at this time. That was the question and I had, especially with the way things were going in the game when I was talking to the guys earlier. And I mean, they wanted to know, like, is this a team that is kind of a fluke? And, you know, of course, they don't belong here. And they're not like heading in this direction. But realistically, this is just a young team that is ahead of schedule.
Starting point is 00:37:18 It's the start. This is just the start for them. This playoff experience, I think, is invaluable for them, just to have it, just to go through this entire thing, and just to know what it's like to be here and to stay hungry to want to get back here again, right? But again, things don't look great. I mean, again, Brandon Fott, starting in game three, we know one of his biggest weaknesses is giving up center cut fastballs, just like we've seen so far. and we know what Phillies hitters do with those.
Starting point is 00:37:47 And now Ryan Nelson pitched tonight out of the bullpen. He was a potential candidate to start in game four. Obviously, it doesn't mean completely that he's out. Maybe they do go with a bullpen start of some kind. But it feels like that means he's out. So it also feels like this means that Zach Gallen has to start game four. It has to be maybe slotted in to start game four. We know they kept that kind of open as far as an option
Starting point is 00:38:10 because they needed to see if they would need Zach Gallen in game. for and right now it looks like there's a chance that that might potentially be you know uh you know they might they might have their backs up against the wall and be down three three nothing at that point and you'd gallant to pitch i would counter and say well you still have slade sacconi but he also pitched tonight he also pitched so we're back to zach alley what linked out of the pen do they have like what options do they they don't really have and the bullpen is well rested right now it is it is well rested you you didn't even get a chance to to do much and use those guys and I think you would have you would have seen a lot more of that even if they are down
Starting point is 00:38:47 by three runs maybe four runs just to kind of keep it close because there's going to be a day off on Wednesday but didn't really see most of those guys so they're ready to go man they're they're they're ready to have their opportunity the bullpen is just kind of sitting out there waiting and you know they they haven't had a chance to get going because they've been trailing so yeah now game game kyle Keller with a great comment he said as a philly's fan is a simple formula for the debacks if they want to get back into this take it one game one inning and one bad at a time i mean hope it don't happen but hey always a chance good game respect that and i mean yeah you're right i think i think the moments get too big i think again the environment is they could have said they
Starting point is 00:39:28 could say they were as prepared to play in that environment as as they were but i don't know i mean you you can't really prepare for that kind of environment during the postseason and of course you know he had some Merrill Kelly comments that were taken, you know, of course, a clip was taken and kind of blown up. And it gave the fans just more of a reason to be crazy. But I mean, I don't think it was blown up. He said it multiple times. And I kept saying he was poking the bear. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:39:55 That's fair too. It felt like he could have been. We put that warning down. We tried to put that warning out there. We definitely told Baxter to keep his ass off Twitter. I think he minded his manners. He kept to himself. But I think I think what he said is right.
Starting point is 00:40:09 And right now the Diamondbacks can't be thinking about game four, game five. They just simply have to. Every game now is a must-win game. And they've been in that position before. They've talked about that being their mindset during the postseason. So, yeah, I mean, it absolutely now is a must-win. If you disagreed that tonight's game was a mess-win, you can't say that game three is now not a must-win. Plus, if they do, if they do do anything, if they're able to win these games at home,
Starting point is 00:40:36 they are coming back to Philadelphia no matter what now that they're down there. You got it, yeah, at that point. So it's just rough, but we'll see what happens. I do have one guy that always inspires hope in me. He always gets me ready to run through a brick wall. Yeah. And that is Jerry P. Heraldo Pardomo from the clubhouse, once again, saying that the Diamondbacks are not done.
Starting point is 00:40:57 I think we had a comeback with the same energy, same hungry, same patient, you know. It's not done yet. We had seven more again, I mean, five more again, come. coming up. So there's not done yet. I've been very impressed with Heraldo Predomo, the more that I've watched him in this postseason. It helps he's got the two home runs. But even still, just the attitude
Starting point is 00:41:20 that he has there, kind of being one of those young leaders, one of those 23-year-olds who've homered. It's one of the reasons why the window of contention is absolutely open for the Arizona Diamondbacks right now. But just seeing the way that he carries himself like that. And he looked this way last night and they lost today. But still, you
Starting point is 00:41:39 You have to be a little bit more upbeat, or at least not downbeat. It's one game at a time, and we're going back home, and we like what we've got. And so we're going to go out there. And sure, it's funny. So game one was 5'3, and it didn't feel close at all. Tonight was 10-0, and it didn't necessarily feel like it was that much of a difference. They feel a lot closer. A 10-run loss in game two versus a two-run loss in game one.
Starting point is 00:42:06 Both games felt like we lost by a million. somehow. I mean, that's not a difference. That's actually not a big difference for an eight run swing in a loss, right? And that's kind of strange, right? Yeah, it really is. And I think they're looking at that same way, too, of like, technically we lost like four or five nothing. And maybe we could have gotten a run in there.
Starting point is 00:42:24 So you do that kind of skewed thinking of looking at things in a positive perspective to feel better about what actually happen. That's what ball players have to do. I mean, as I'm sure you and Jesse have said a billion times, and every baseball podcast has said a billion times, If you fail seven out of ten times, you're one of the greatest hitters of all time, and you're going to the Hall of Fame. So baseball is about failure, and the Diamondbacks are aware of this, and they're going to be coming out. Guns ablazing on Thursday in a sea of Sedona Red.
Starting point is 00:42:53 Hold on. No, you don't send Coggs to bed. I demanded Coggs was here tonight, Anthony. And I said if he didn't come, I would have to strip the Kingsnake title that we gave to him during the regular season at one point because the Diamondbacks were, I'm sure it was because he helped them win. what was the reason why we gave cogs the king snake? Because I think there was such a bad performance and he went to a road game. Yeah, yeah. And then the chat bullied me into changing my king snake into giving it to him.
Starting point is 00:43:19 So, no, Cox is on the nice as it is. But he's here tonight on my request. So that's nice. But yeah, no, a lot of talk from a lot of Phillies fans here. And I'm not going to acknowledge any of it. But you're all right. I mean, the Diamondbacks got outclassed. And that's something that we have not hesitated from saying the night.
Starting point is 00:43:34 When people say they don't belong here, that's the part where I say it's bullshit. because they absolutely whoops the Brewers. They whooped the Dodgers. I don't know how they did it. And you could say maybe the offense, the offensive output was maybe a fluke because we hadn't seen this team be able to do what they did, especially in that first game against the Dodgers, hardly at all this season.
Starting point is 00:43:55 So these, these were new experiences to us. And obviously, I mean, playing the Phillies, again, I know I made the asinine comment at one point that I thought it was better to play the Phillies than the brewers. And I know now the mistake of my way. I have apologized for that infinitely because I see now what a buzz saw that this Phillies team is. And we experienced it during the season.
Starting point is 00:44:21 I mean, Tori LaValle literally got, he mixed it up with JT. Rial Muto at one point. So, I mean, there's some history now between these teams. And, you know, of course, this team is still a dangerous team. But when I say that, I just mean dangerous maybe to my emotions. I don't know. Dangerous to breaking my heart. Baseball can break your heart.
Starting point is 00:44:41 It can. It can. But I don't care. Regardless, a connected team is still a fucking dangerous team. So go get this fucking dangerous shirt. It's a brand new release that we got. We're fucking dangerous. And again, when I say that, I might mean to ourselves.
Starting point is 00:44:54 I don't know. After the mistakes in the infield tonight, I definitely might mean to ourselves. No, I'm not. I got a $20 bill. I'll pay it to the jar later. It's over in my bag. But I promise you, I'll write I owe you. I don't know if it counts.
Starting point is 00:45:06 if it's on the shirt. I honestly, I actually would agree. Wait, so I could say the F word as much as I want to with selling the shirt? It has to make sense. Fuck yeah. I don't know if that's allowed. I'm just going to loosen it.
Starting point is 00:45:19 I'm going to loosen it. Well, I mean, it was in regards to the shirt. We're selling the shirt right now. I'm losing the shirt. The swear job. Yeah, no, I appreciate it. Just take it off and leave the top off. But go get this shirt.

Yeah, I got to save money. and getting those $33 playoff tickets at Chase Field. Wow. That's something that the Phillies fans right now in the chat might get excited about.
Starting point is 00:46:42 I don't want to get them excited. I don't want to bring them here on short vacations. We have to talk about that tomorrow on the 1 p.m. show. Like, will Phillies fans be descending upon some cheap tickets, maybe some cheap flights? I don't want to talk about that. I don't want to talk about that at all. But, yeah, $33 tickets through game time might make it hard. $32.
Starting point is 00:47:03 Dropping like a rock. So get down on those tickets. from GameTime. Of course, GameTime has the place for last minute ticket deals, and they are showing us why. Starting point is 00:47:34 losses like tonight's loss and that is with our friends from OG's brands gummies. I'm going to suggest a wonderful Indica for you. But again, there's also a sleep edition gummy that is wonderful. It'll knock you right out and you won't even hopefully dream about this game. Or if you're a Phillies fan, you can have wonderful dreams about this game with the sleep edition gummy. They also make, they have their fruit and their cream mix bags right now, which gives you not only that wonderful edible. you know, goodness, but also gives you some wonderful taste.
Starting point is 00:48:07 I was at the dispensary the other day. I brought up OGs and the, the, the, the, the, the, the tender, if you will, I hate using that phrase. But the bud tender actually told me that she's like, oh, geez is by far the best tasting, OG, the best tasting gummy that there is. And it's true. They are, they're incredible. I think they're working on getting the patent of calling it ediblishous.
Starting point is 00:48:27 Ediblishes. Yeah. I like that. TM that. You should. They're working on. I don't know. That's their thing.
Starting point is 00:48:32 They're working on, I think. They're also a wonderful company, too, by the way. I love them. And I got to say that as well, because it's always cool working with great companies. They're wonderful people over there at OGs, and they make a wonderful product. It's one of my favorite products, of course, as you know. They make the fruits and cream bags available in both the sunny Sativa or mellow Indica blend, depending on what happened with your team.
Starting point is 00:48:53 Did your team lose? Did the team win? Get the bag that's right for you. Starting point is 00:49:23 Jesse is here and we are joined once again from Citizens Bank Park, which has become the vortex of the sports world right now by the one and only. Thunderstick Jesse Friedman. Jesse, how you doing tonight, bud? I'm doing better than the Diamondbacks. I imagine so. We'll just put it that way. Yeah, tonight was not a good night for this team. We were talking about how they just got beat in every facet of the game by this Philly's team.
Starting point is 00:49:50 Yeah, I mean, it's hard to focus too much on any one thing because, you know, you could say, all right, you know, the D-back's bats didn't really get going, you know, another rough night for them, you know, getting shut out, of course. It doesn't really get any worse than that. But at the same time, I mean, the Diamondbacks gave up 10 runs in this game, right? It was not like, you know, if you scratch across a few against some really good Phillies pitchers that you're necessarily in this one. Obviously, you know, things really unraveled late.
Starting point is 00:50:17 This game was close for a long time more so than the final score would lead you to believe. The debacks went with, you know, some lower leverage guys who really struggled later in this game. But there were also, you know, some guys who struggled in some. really important moments. You know, Tori Lavello made a pretty bold move. I thought to go back to Merrill Kelly in the sixth inning, Kelly had completely shut down hitters four through nine in this Philly's lineup, you know, the first couple times through.
Starting point is 00:50:45 But hitters one through three had quite a bit of success off of him, you know, the first couple times through. And Tori was willing to take a risk. He was willing to have Merrill back out there to face those guys for a third time. Of course, Kyle Schwaber, you know, hits another home run. Merrill said after the game, he just went to the well one too many times with that change up. Unlike some of the other pitches that have been hit over the fence by the Phillies in the series, that was actually a pretty well-located change-up.
Starting point is 00:51:11 Merrill just said he, like I said before, he just went to the well, one too many times, gave Schorber too much of a look at that pitch. And, you know, Merrill walked the next batter, which is something that he did. The other two home runs that he gave up earlier in the game that happened all three times. Meryl gave up a home run. And Tori stuck with him. It was interesting. You know, he allowed him to go in there, home run, walk.
Starting point is 00:51:33 And then, you know, you've got Bryce Harper up at the plate and Tori sticks with Merrill, gets a couple of outs, right, gets Harper, gets Bome. And then at that point, after being really aggressive and leaving Merrill in the game, at that point, Tori goes and gets Jomantipli, who's not really been used in high-levered situation so far in the playoffs. He faces Bryson Stott. Wasn't hit particularly hard, but it did find some outfield grass a single there. And then it was just two really rough matchups for Mantiply with Real Muto and Castiano's.
Starting point is 00:52:04 And, you know, Brandon Marsh hit the big double. Things just, you know, sort of unraveled from that point forward. Would you have preferred to see Andrew Salfranc in that spot or someone else coming out of the pen to, you know, just keep it a little bit closer? That was my initial thought was that it was pretty weird that the Diamondbacks were going to Mantiply in that spot instead of Salfranc. Like I said earlier, Mantiply hasn't really. really been used in high leverage situations as much in the playoffs, whereas Saul Frank has been, you know, the go-to guy with runners on base and, you know, a tight spot late in the game. But Tori after the game talked about how the debacks really like that matchup with Stott and
Starting point is 00:52:42 Mantipli. I dug into some numbers and Stott is actually a really good sliders hitter, which is Saul Frank's primary outpitch, not a good change-up hitter, which is, you know, of course, one of one of Joe Mantiply's primary outpitches. So you could kind of understand looking at those numbers why the diamond back's like that matchup. I believe Mantiply threw a middle, middle sinker. It was not a good pitch. Stott rolled over the top. Did not hit it hard at all, but it just rolled through into center field. And it was a gamble going to Mantiply because if he didn't get Stott, then as I said earlier, you're going to have to face Real Muto. You know, you've got Castiano's on back of him. Those are two pretty rough matchups for Joe Mantiply and
Starting point is 00:53:23 what was still a pivotal point in this game. And I think that for me, that's the problem. and there's a lot of questions. Like you said, there's no one area. I tweeted out my funny Oregon Trail bullpen graphic because honestly, I felt like this game didn't really get out of control until Merrill Kelly left. And, you know, again, Merrill Kelly still, Kelly had two of those runs attributed to him as his earned runs.
Starting point is 00:53:47 But it just felt like this bullpen that Tori has been able to count on and has been able to go too early was not that in this game. And I don't know. You know, again, the two home runs that Merrill gave up early was enough to win with the way this offense performed tonight. You just have no idea how things could have gone, I guess, mentally for batters if the game would have stayed closer and if they maybe could have formed some sort of comeback late. But, I mean, once we got to those sixth and seventh innings and everything started getting out of control, you know, it just felt like, you know, obviously there's, there's, the hitters are going to do what they do, which is try to hit five home runs and one at bat. Yeah, you know, it kind of looked like the debacks lost focus at a certain point, you know, once they were, once they were down, six runs, eventually 10 runs.
Starting point is 00:54:37 The abats were just very low quality. There was an infield pop-up that dropped, of course, right in front of, you know, Gabby Moreno, Ryan Nelson, Evan Longoria, they all sort of converged around this ball in the infield and nobody caught it. Apparently just no one called off anyone else. It was crazy. It was, that was a pretty rough moment. And Tori talked after the game.
Starting point is 00:54:57 about, you know, the Diamondbacks just not playing Diamondbacks baseball. You know, they're kind of built on competence. They're built on fielding the ball well and running the base as well and, you know, doing a lot of the little things. And, you know, on this stage, no matter what the score is in the NLCS, you just can't have things like that happen. And it was an ugly moment. I mean, you know, the Diamondbacks have been, there's been some skepticism about
Starting point is 00:55:22 whether the Diamondbacks really belong in this situation in the NLCS is a, 84 win third wildcard team and tonight they didn't and that's i mean that's just sort of the reality of it yeah they they really didn't and i mean again i've been defending the fact that they they they do belong here in the fact that they won their way here and again this is right the postseason is about it's about stepping up uh in these series uh earlier on i made the mistake of even bringing up on on that i was on foul territory earlier i brought up the stupid idea of the fact that once the diamondbacks had any kind of layoff, that that really kind of seemed to sink them. And it's not like I'm blaming it on the layoff.
Starting point is 00:56:03 I'm not blaming it on any layoff. I'm not trying to give the Dodgers or the Braves excuse. But I'm saying that this team was impressive as far as their offense in the postseason. We did not expect to see them step up in this way offensively, maybe winning close games, maybe having the pitching be as good as it is or as good as it has been is less of a surprise. But again, like what they did to the Dodgers in game one of that series. what they did in the Brewer Series, the amount of runs they've been able to generate so far has kind of been unlike the team that we saw during the regular season,
Starting point is 00:56:36 but they still earn their right to be here. Now what we see after a couple of days off is this Diamondbacks offense look like it did at times during the regular season when it would just, no matter how good or bad they were playing, would just kind of disappear as a whole at a time. And sometimes for stretches, I mean, we know we still call July the dark days, but that was a time where, you know, that somehow offensively, the entire team went missing.
Starting point is 00:57:04 Yeah, I mean, it's been a rough couple days, right? I mean, Geraldo Perdomo, that was kind of a wall scraping home run yesterday against Zach Wheeler in that sixth inning. Outside of that, I mean, Wheeler and Nola have just absolutely dominated this Diamondbacks lineup. I think it's 12 innings, 12 innings, six hits, two runs, both of those on that home run. neither of them walked anyone. I think they have 15 strikeouts combined. They're cruising.
Starting point is 00:57:31 I mean, that duo right now is probably as good as any starting pitching duo in the playoffs. And, you know, we've seen time and time again how far that can get you in the postseason. And it's what a lot of people thought, you know, Diamondbacks fans thought could happen with Zach Gallen and Merrill Kelly. You know, they're capable of getting hot in the same way that Zach Wheeler and Aaronola have gotten hot. You know, unfortunately, that's just not really what we've seen. seen at least, at least not in this series so far in Philadelphia.
Starting point is 00:57:59 Yeah, I think the layoff business that you brought up on foul territory and you got some crap for. It's not an excuse. It's just an explanation, right? Because both teams have had a little bit of a layoff. Yeah. Has not impacted the Phillies? Good on them. It has impacted the debacks.
Starting point is 00:58:16 It seems like it has. Yeah. The last time that the Diamondbacks had a four-day layoff was the All-Star break. What did they do right after that? They were two and eight. They were terrible. So I think like that sort of, again, indicative or the explanation, not an excuse, but an explanation. The Diamondbacks have just been playing meaningful baseball games for like three months straight.
Starting point is 00:58:33 And every single one of those games have mattered as far as if they got to the postseason and if they advanced in the postseason. So this is like not the first time that they've faced adversity while trying to win meaningful games. But so far in the playoffs, this is just been the first time like you wrote Jesse in your article for go phnx.com that they faced. the team where their stars have stepped up and been everything that they should be in a series like this. That didn't happen against the Dodgers. Yeah, I mean, you know, somehow the Diamondbacks went, you know, faced the Dodgers and gave up one hit combined to Moogie Betts and Freddie Freeman over a three game series. The reality is that that's not sustainable. Like, you weren't going to come in here and make Bryce Harper go one for 15 and Trey Turner go one for, you know, like,
Starting point is 00:59:23 that just wasn't going to happen. Maybe, you know, maybe you get one or two of those guys that have a rough series or whatever. But, you know, the debacks, I think we're going to have to slug a little bit in order to hang with this Philly's team. And, you know, for as, for as great as that offense was up to this point, right, up to the start of this series, I mean, the debacks were averaging six runs per game in the postseason entering this series.
Starting point is 00:59:47 It was going to be hard for them to maintain that too, right? We haven't seen a Diamondbacks team that, you know, hits all kinds of homers. We didn't see that team in the regular season. We did for the first five games of the playoffs. You kind of figured that was going to run out sooner or later. I want to say something about the Phillies fans, by the way, Jesse. They've been here in our chat all night.
Starting point is 01:00:08 They've been terrific. They've been trash talking. They've been habitually line stepping, but I'm okay with that because I feel like they deserve it after this win. But most importantly, they're big fans of yours. And I saw one of the questions was, They wanted to ask how you, how you've enjoyed Philly and how Philly has treated you. It's cold, man.
Starting point is 01:00:29 That's about all I have to say. You still live in Seattle, Jesse. What is going on? I know. Yeah, but I feel like, you know, one month and in Phoenix for the summer will, like, just break you and, you know, suddenly. It absolutely will. Anything under 80 degrees, you have to have a coat on.
Starting point is 01:00:45 I'm going to, I'm going to utterly break, like, next weekend when suddenly the temperature drops in Phoenix, finally. But, yeah, you know, what generally, happens for me on these work road trips is I spend time at my hotel or Airbnb and I spend time at the ballpark and I spend a little bit of time sleeping and I don't spend any time doing anything else. So as much as I could say, you know, I went and checked out such and such a museum or anything or, you know, went to some cool food spot or something today. That didn't happen. I have been to to Philly a number of times before though and it's one of my favorite cities to visit. It's been a good amount of time here growing up. So, you know, maybe we'll be back. You know, maybe we'll be back. If the
Starting point is 01:01:27 Diamondbacks are able to find a way to, you know, at least push this to six games, then, you know, I'll be back here in about a week. Your dad is from Philly, right? So that's maybe where some of the silly love is coming from. Maybe they just recognize you instantly as one of their own. I don't know. I was in Philly last year with Megaran, and it was a delightful experience. I absolutely love the people there. I loved everything. There's something about people in Chicago and people in Philadelphia that feel like my people a little bit. Like I love how direct they are with you, but they have no problem having a conversation. And specifically, they had no problem telling me how to order my food at like this wonderful,
Starting point is 01:02:07 greasy fast food stand that we went to. So I love them. So again, even though they whipped our ass, a good game to the Phillies fans. And of course, Jesse, we will see you back here in Phoenix for game three. And I know hopefully I'll get to see you with my own eyes and not just on a video. screen yeah we'll we'll see we'll see uh i've got a got a two and a half hour layover in neapolis tomorrow it's going to be a bit of a bit of a long journey home drink water yeah as much fun is you know i i i love traveling in general like traveling is is one of my favorite things but even
Starting point is 01:02:41 i at this point i'm like you know what the thought of sleeping in my own bed doesn't sound too bad right now so i'm i'm excited to i'm excited to see i'm honestly so i mean he'll keep it he'll keep it It'll keep it warm for you in the meantime. That's a terrifying thought. That actually means I'm going back to the couch now that Jesse comes back home. Yeah, that's rough. That's rough. Anyway, all right, buddy.
Starting point is 01:03:03 Well, travel safe and we look forward to seeing you back here. All right. Sounds good. See you guys. All right, man. I wanted to see if we could get him to commit to whether, even if the Diamondbacks don't go on to win this series, they can just get back to Philly. You've got to get some footage of Jesse running up the Philadelphia Museum of Art Steps. There is a, there is a, there is a clip of me doing that exactly.
Starting point is 01:03:25 You do it. Well, of course, because you know what you're doing. I know what I'm doing. Exactly. I went and found the Rocky statue and took fight pictures in front of it. I did all the stuff. I found a statue of the fanatic and I hugged it. And I mean, maybe all of these are reasons.
Starting point is 01:03:39 Maybe Joshi's right. Maybe it is my fault. Maybe you should fire me. I don't know. But anyway, I'm glad some of you have enjoyed the show and I'm glad some of you don't want me to be fired. But I will say, win or lose. I'm still going to enjoy my Four Peaks. Starting point is 01:05:26 you know when like a family recipe is lost because they didn't write it down and it didn't get passed down to that next generation? I know the main components of it if you want to hear it. Can you hear it? You want double protein. Yes. It's steak and chicken. Steak and chicken double protein. Those are the most important factor.

Starting point is 01:06:11 Don't know what you're talking about. You might have to wink, but they'll get what you're talking about. They said the old ones Patrick gets all the time. Oh, yeah. The Patrick special. Patrick style. Sometimes they say. Patrick from D.

Starting point is 01:07:51 There's no way he's making it in time with the layover in Indiana. But of course. You all got an airport? Yeah. Y'all got an airport. There is somewhere in the state. There might even be two. I don't know.
