Welcome in to another edition of the PHNXDBACs podcast right here.
It is our trade deadline show.
I am your mayor of PHNX, occasionally known as Derek Montia.
This man is Jesse Friedman, occasionally known as your Thundersick and my vice mayor.
Jesse, it's trade deadline day.
It's the most wonderful time of the year.
If your team is a buyer, if your team is a seller, it's a pretty bad day.
It's a pretty bad day.
Unless your team is the Miami Marlins, Derek, in which.
case you've added some serious reinforcements to your farm systems over the last five days.
It's a great point. It's a great point. And honestly, let's just briefly, I'd like to say,
if you are going to sell, sell like the Marlins are selling, go all in on selling. Don't do this.
Let's just get rid of guys that, you know, their contracts expire at the end of the year.
Sell jazz chisholm to the Yankees and see how much you get back in return for him. This is the time of the year
to do all of this. And basically, you know, reshape your team. You know, the Marlins.
there struggled. They were in last place here kind of in the National League,
purgatory all season long. So it makes a lot of sense what they did. Of course,
we are here to talk about the Diamondbacks and any moves that they make here during the
trade deadline. We will be live this final hour of the trade deadline. So hopefully if anything breaks,
any news breaks, ESPO will do the Woo Woo-W-W thing and we'll get you any breaking news that
we might have. But of course, the Diamondbacks did do something today. And that was traded for a
first baseman, Jesse. It makes me very nervous. We did see a tweet from Nick Piccoro assuring us that
the MRI results for Christian Walker came back, I guess, fairly positive as good as this news
could have been, but he's still expected to end up on the IAL. So it explains why the Diamondbacks
went out and traded for Josh Bell from the Miami Marlins for cash considerations. They will pay
$2.25 million of the $5.5 million that he has owed the rest of the way. This is a savvy
move by a team that really is unsure at this point how long Christian Walker is potentially
going to be out for considering that they didn't have to really give up a whole lot to get Bell.
Yeah, it feels like an insurance policy, right? I imagine that, you know, the Diamondbacks
probably know more than we do about Christian Walker at this point, but they felt they felt the
need to go out and I guess at least add some depth of that position. You know, you look at the numbers
for Josh Bell on the season. They're not, they're not going to blow you away necessarily. But he's the
kind of guy who can step in and is a veteran player who's been around for a while.
And he also was incredibly hot, Derek, over his last seven games played with the Marlins,
which is kind of bizarre.
They put him on waivers kind of right as that was happening.
Marlins still a lot of, I mean, like I said, they pretty much just sold out here at the trade
deadline.
And it really didn't matter how good guys were, what their contract situation was.
It felt like they were just kind of parting ways with as many, you know, main roster guys
I don't even know how the Marlins are going to field a team, Jesse.
I really don't, but I think they're going to call you pretty soon.
No, Davis and De Los Santos is definitely getting called up.
He will play.
But what do you think here about the move for Josh Bell overall, though?
Like you said, the last seven games, pretty phenomenal.
He's known as kind of a shrieky guy.
So this is a positive streak, but at least he's, it's the streak going up, right?
It's one of the shrieky times where he's hitting really well.
And, of course, I mean, you never know how he's going to perform.
coming over here and being on a contending team that's in the middle of a playoff hunt yeah i mean it's a low
risk move right i mean as you said the diamond backs are picking up 2.25 million dollars here that's not
all that much money the rest of the season right uh so you're yeah it's just cash considerations debacks
aren't trading any prospects in this deal and yeah his last seven games josh bell is sitting 429 515
1 000 uh with five homers nine rbi five walks five strikeouts that's in 33 plate appearances is that good
yeah you're you're basically in my mind you're trying to catch light
in a bottle here.
Like it doesn't sound like Christian Walker is out for the rest of the season or anything.
Based on the reports we've heard, it very much sounds like he is going to return at some
point this year.
Could Josh Bell string together a few nice weeks for you at first base?
I think that's a pretty reasonable, a pretty reasonable expectation, not that it's a guarantee,
but I think it's possible.
And Josh Bell is interesting because this is the third straight trade deadline where he has
been moves.
He is getting pretty used to this thing, having to change.
cities around late July, early August.
Everybody really wants him.
Everybody just must really want Josh Bell.
Yeah, I mean.
I don't think that's it.
I don't think you're right about that.
I mean, he was kind of, he was part of the Juan Soto trade, which I guess was at the time,
like Josh Bell was seen as an asset then, but he wound up having just a miserable
second half with the San Diego Padres that year.
Last season, he was acquired again at the trade deadline by the Miami Marlins, a team that
was very much in the mix and wound up making the playoffs, of course.
And he was quite good in the second half for the Marlins.
He had a 701 OPS in the first half last season, back with the Cleveland Guardians.
And after being dealt to the Marlins, Josh Bell had an 818 OPS.
The rest of the way, hit 11 homers in 53 games.
Here are the numbers on the season for Josh Bell.
As we said earlier, they're not going to really blow you away.
There's a reason the debacks were just able to give up cash in this deal and nothing else.
239 average 305 on base 394 slugging percentage 14 homers 49 rbi i guess that's a pretty decent
amount of run production uh at at this stage in the season but you see there derrick the uh the
the b war at minus 0.6 uh that tells you pretty much everything you need to know about why the
debacks were able to pull this off last minute well and of course the idea here like you said is
that this is more for insurance right this isn't necessarily a trade that the diamondbacks would
have made, but considering that Christian Walker got pulled from last night's game, which caused
the entire Diamondbacks community to absolutely lose their goddamn minds.
I mean, I think DeVax fans were a little more reasonable about it, but all of the national
people were just going crazy.
Like, oh my gosh, Christian Walker was just pulled in the fourth inning.
Surely he's been traded to the New York Yankees or whatever.
And it was like, no, there is pretty much zero chance that the Diamondbacks were going
to trade Christian Walker.
of yesterday. So we felt pretty comfortable squashing that that hypothesis immediately.
But yeah, really unfortunate situation for the debacks. Like regardless of what Josh Bell is
able to give them in the next few weeks, Christian Walker is a really big part of this team.
Offensively, defensively in the clubhouse, you know, really plays a leadership role on this
baseball team. It is tough news for them. And hopefully it's not, it's not too long that he's
going to miss.
Aze Bubba in the comment said we thought giving up DDLS was bad, but the Padres trade legit ruin their farm system.
We are going to talk about some of those trades.
And honestly, that's a great point because this trade and the AJ Puck trade, when you look at these,
the Diamondbacks, again, the DDLS, I know that's a big part of that trade.
I still have a completely different point of view on it.
And I'm sure the front office does too, just about playing with house money there in regards to Davis and Dela Santos coming back to this team after being acquired by
the Guardians through the Rule 5 draft.
So that might have been seen as just an easier decision to make than maybe
parting ways with one of their other top prospects.
But I get people being upset about that.
DDLS was smashing right now.
And he's going to continue to do that.
He's going to continue to upset us with how good he is at baseball now that he's no longer
part of this organization.
However, what I will say is when you look at some of these other moves, the Diamondbacks
getting A.J. Puck for, you know, the two pieces that they traded away, as well as
getting, you know, Josh Bell here in a big need, you know, at least like you said,
a stop gap, a temporary situation, at least a guy that can come in, give you some good
offense at first base, maybe not great defense, which we'll talk about.
But, you know, he's going to put up some good numbers.
He's putting up some good numbers right now.
And he should be able to help at least not have, you know, that, that, not miss Christian
Walker nearly as much.
They did have options potentially.
We talked to before the show started about maybe Pave and Smith being an option here for
the Diamondbacks.
they might still turn to Pavin for some games to play first, but I feel like Josh gives them just.
Pavan has been raking in AAA.
Well, and that's the thing.
He's playing really good baseball.
Jesse said it to me when I said it.
Arguably, Pave and Smith is playing better baseball right now than Josh Bell.
However, the last seven games for Bell have been just absolutely insane.
I will say, though, the defense is a concern, right?
And again, we talk about Christian Walker.
Christian Walker heard himself making a phenomenal, like, basket catch play.
Believe it or not.
Hypothetically.
Yeah.
But actually what Tor,
we didn't get to talk to Walker yesterday,
but Tori said it happened during his first about of the game.
Oh.
Just like a,
I don't know exactly when.
Well,
that makes more sense because the basket catch thing,
it didn't really look like he turned or did anything that would have aggravated.
Tori credit him.
He was like,
yeah,
he kind of felt some tightness in his oblique area and he was still able to go out and
make that catch.
That's pretty impressive.
But yeah,
apparently it happened in his first bad of the game,
which I believe resulted in a strikeout.
Well,
of course,
his defense is incredible and we are going to miss that defense very much over there.
Josh Bell, meanwhile, minus seven defensive runs saved, minus five outs above average.
Not great, Derek.
Not great.
And that's in 561 innings over there at first base.
Not, you know, not, it's not going to be Christian Walker.
And I think we're going to very quickly realize how, uh, how important this man is to this
team beyond just his offense.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It, uh, I mean, anytime you're a play.
in Christian Walker defensively at first base.
Like that's just going to be a losing battle in general.
But Josh Bell has graded out as one of the worst defensive first baseman here recently and
certainly this year.
So there's no getting around that.
I mean, you know, how does Josh Bell's first base defense compare it to Payvin Smith's first base
defense or Kevin Newman's?
It's a little tough to say, you know, Newman in particular hasn't played a whole lot of
innings over at first.
It sounds like he's going to start at first base tonight for the debacks.
But yeah, I mean, the question that I do have kind of.
of looming over this situation is are we sure that Pavin Smith would not come up and be better
than Josh Bell even. The D-Backs could very easily just run out a platoon at first base with
Kevin Newman facing lefties against him. He's had a decent amount of success this year and Paveen
Smith hitting righties. And I honestly had kind of forgotten Derek. Paveen Smith, if you go back
and look at his brief stint in the majors earlier this season, it was not very long. We're talking
61 plate appearances.
Pavin Smith had an 829 OPS.
And so if you're going out and you're trading for Josh Bell,
you've got to believe that Josh Bell is going to outperform the Kevin Newman
Paveen Smith platoon.
I think that's very possible,
but I don't think that it's necessarily a guarantee.
Well, let's talk about Josh Bell a little bit here.
Switch hitter, right?
At the plate,
2019 National League All-Star with the Pirates,
among major league switch hitters,
of active major league switch hitters since 29.
he ranks second in locks, third in games played,
and RBI, third in RBI, third in RBI,
fourth in home runs, sixth in hits, seventh in OBP,
slugging, doubles, runs, and extra base hit.
So the man has put together a pretty good career
over the last five years,
but he might be on the other side of that now at this point,
even though he's just 31 years old.
Who knows?
Maybe he continues to put up the numbers
that he's put up over the last seven games
over a stretch, you know,
and next thing you know,
this ends up being one of the best acquisitions in Diamondbacks history.
Who the hell knows, right?
Is he going to go all JD Martinez in the second half?
I would love that so much.
And that's the perfect name for you to bring up.
I mean, there's, at the very least, I think this is the Diamondbacks doing something
to at least ensure that this team does not all of a sudden go in the other direction with
how well they've been playing lately.
You know, right now they really are part of the group that's separating themselves from
the pack in the national league.
it comes to those wildcard spots.
There is a game that separates four teams,
the Diamondbacks, the Padres, the Mets, and the Braves.
Therefore, those three wildcard spots.
So the Diamondbacks are in the mix.
The problem is right now, they are not one of the wildcard teams yet.
They're still on the outside looking in.
So when it comes to, you know, obviously not losing games,
it's very important, especially with someone like Christian Walker being out.
Now, according to John Gamadoro, this is a mild oblique strain.
So we don't really know the severity if that's grade one or if that's less than grade one.
Yeah, typically when typically the word mild would mean a grade one oblique strain.
I'm not necessarily sure that that's how Gambo intended it.
MLB.com they have a they have a, oh.
Oh, what's happening?
Not a trade, but relating to Christian Walker, 10 day injured list.
10 day.
Yes.
10 day.
10 day out.
And Pave and Smith has been recalled.
Ah, there it is.
So yeah, I guess, I mean, Josh Bell apparently is not, is not active for the time being at least.
So it makes sense to devax.
We're going to make a move and bring Pavin up for right now.
It very well could be the Pave and just gets shipped back to Reno.
And then they, you know, they bring in Josh Bell here in the coming days.
Yeah, no huge surprise there.
But again, we don't know, we don't know exactly how long this is going to take.
If a mild strain equates to a grade one strain, MLB.com has a little oblique strain page over on
their website where they cite they cite a study that they did in-house or i guess some some entity
conducted this study and found that position players with a grade one oblique strain typically
missed about 27 days that is what they came up with so you're talking roughly a month if it's a
grade one strain maybe it's uh like a particularly mild grade one strain we don't know uh exactly
what what this is going to look like uh but yeah i don't it does not sound like you're talking about
Christian Walker being out six to eight weeks or, you know, kind of like a more on the worst case scenario
side of things. This sounds like a pretty positive outcome.
Christian Walker was born in a burlap sack hanging off the side of a horse, Jesse.
That may or may not be true.
The man is tougher than a lot of things in life.
He'll probably just rub some sandpaper on his oblique and he'll be back in a week.
He'll be fine.
10 day I'll, I'm expected him back in nine days.
That's what I'm expecting him back.
Now, of course, the 10 day I'll can be extended and that's kind of how that kind of stuff
goes and it wouldn't be a surprise to see that happen. Of course, they'd probably take it
week by week with him. But I also would not be surprised to see Christian Walker back sooner.
It's just a matter of how important he is, right? Like this might not be the worst thing if
Josh Bell can come in, if Payv and Smith can't come in and just be serviceable over there
at first base while we're waiting for Christian Walker to come back. He's played a lot of games
this season. And I think, you know, having a little time off here before the playoffs might not be
the worst thing if he can come back at 100%. I'm sure he has a lot of other,
little nagging, you know, things here and there that can also use some time off. So a well-rested
Christian Walker right before the playoffs doesn't sound like the worst thing to me. What sounds like the
worst thing, though, is that they have the month of August hypothetically to get through
without him. And that is where I'm concerned, right? Because again, Christian Walker is just
one of those guys that if you look over the course of how successful the Diamondbacks have been in
the month of July, he is at the center of a lot of it, whether it's defensively or
offensively Christian Walker is just an incredibly well-rounded player that brings so much to this
team and doesn't get the credit he deserves by any stretch of the imagination.
Yeah, it really, as we said on our post game last night, it really left a kind of a sour taste
in your mouth after what was one of the best wins in Diamondbacks history, frankly.
I mean, last night was unreal, just watching that in real time.
It was an unbelievable comeback for Corvin to come through in that moment the way he did.
The other aspect of it, Derek, that I forgot to mention on our show last night is that Corbyn Carroll was a pinch hitter in Christian Walker's spot in the lineup, which is just very odd because Kevin Newman came in to play first base for Christian Walker.
And then Corbyn Carroll came in as a pinch hitter.
And I guess the Diamondbacks would have had Lourdes.
I was going to say, imagine Lourdes probably would have played first base.
It would have been kind of at the end of their first base depth chart there if the game had gone back three innings.
Where are you, Tori Lavallo haters?
Where are all the people that want a Tori Lavallo fired?
You're not here for that?
You're not here for that one?
Huh?
Where are you at?
It's just so weird.
Like if Christian Walker, I mean, obviously, you never want Christian Walker to get hurt.
No way, was that a good thing yesterday?
What are the odds that Corby and Carroll, who's been struggling with power of all things?
Like, it's not just the fact that it's Corby and Carol coming up and getting a big hit.
We've seen him do that before.
It's the home run nature of it.
It's hitting that ball in the right field with that smattering.
of people over there to you know that that were left after this team there were not very many
people left after this team was down by as much as they were down of course I am I am partially
to blame for that because or not to blame but I'm part of that group Jesse I went to bed I got a
good night's sleep a great night's sleep in fact a great night's sleep let me ensure you that but
I woke up to a whole bunch of excitement with what happened last night we're going to talk about
that here soon of course we're also going to talk about the moves that were made by
other teams that can also impact the Diamondbacks in the grand scheme of things because there
were a lot of them.

Well, Jesse, of course, the Diamondbacks could do something else here. We're still waiting
to see. But there were a lot of moves made across baseball. And I know that the Diamondbacks right
now, right, still trying to figure out what, or at least we're trying to figure out what the
diamondbacks are going to do for that next time in the rotation when it comes up. Now, you had a
Rattle that talked about Eduardo Rodriguez what's going on with Erod and his progress.
Yeah, I think, I think Eduardo Rodriguez might pitch for the Diamondbacks next week, Derek.
Shut.
He's not real.
No way.
Is he just going to have nobody on the mound?
Yeah, no, we just have to believe, Jacob.
We're all going to have to go out there, and we're just going to all have to believe he's a real person,
and we'll clap our hands, and he'll somehow exist.
No, this is real.
This is happening soon.
At least potentially.
What is happening?
Is that just for Eduardo Rodriguez?
guys or do you guys on the there was a trade made the Pittsburgh pirates are actually finalizing a deal right now to acquire super utility man Isaiah Kiner
F let's go all right man I mean they're they're scraping the bottom of the the pirate I mean if you're the pirates and you really want to be serious about going on run not sure I can't like I love I KF I mean I don't hate the acquisition for them yeah but it's not it's it's not moving the needle you
You either need like a legitimate middle of the order type bat or you're kind of just wasting time in my mind if you're the Pirates.
At least that was my impression of that baseball team over the weekend.
It did not seem like it could really hit.
Granted, Brian Reynolds was out for the entirety of that series, which is kind of a big deal for them.
Yeah, that's interesting.
Getting back to Eduardo Rodriguez, it does sound like he could pitch for the Diamondbacks next week based on what Tori said yesterday.
Both he and Merrill Kelly will throw Sim games out at Salt River Field.
on Wednesday.
It will be three innings, 50 pitches for Merrill Kelly, and four innings up to 60 pitches for
Eduardo Rodriguez.
So Rodriguez is a little bit ahead, which is not something that was necessarily clear prior to
that.
And Tori said that they've had conversations about potentially using Erod in that series
against the Cleveland Guardians next week.
And he also said, obviously, the debacks are operating with a four-man rotation right now
because Yilbert Diaz was optioned.
With the off day on Thursday, they can just slide everybody up and go with a four-man rotation this next time through.
Lavello said that is likely that that is what they will do.
But they will need a starter, a fifth starter, or a bullpen game or some other situation on August 6th,
which is a week from today against the Cleveland Guardians.
And it sounds like Eduardo Rodriguez could make that start.
Gilbert get it.
Gets it.
Gilbert says, say his name.
And he appears.
He is Eduardo Rodriguez.
That's a wrestling thing, Jesse.
But speaking of saying their name and them appearing, the Diamondbacks have gotten a little lucky here when it comes to some of these trades that have happened, mostly because I know the Padres just kind of made a big trade here recently, but a lot of the names that were linked to both the Padres and mostly and the Dodgers.
The Dodgers were linked to a lot of guys.
And almost every name the Dodgers have been linked to has gone luckily to another team to not improve that Dodgers squad any.
And that's kind of a good thing.
But the downside here is we're seeing a lot of the trades spread around,
and there's still a lot of action happening with the teams that are in the thick of the hunt alongside of the Diamondbacks right now in the NL.
Or in the National League wildcard situation.
Yeah, I mean, you just knew that A.J. Preller was never going to let a trade deadline go by without, without.
Like, he can't, he can't let a trade deadline go by without getting one of the biggest names, right?
Right.
And sure not.
What the hell are the Cubs doing?
I still don't understand if the Cubs selling?
Are they buying?
What are they doing?
I think,
I mean,
they sold Mark Lighter Jr.
Right.
They traded him away earlier today.
So I guess that would be a,
that'd be a sell move.
But they also acquired,
uh,
ESOC Paredes the other day from the Tampa Bay Area's traded away
Christopher Morel.
So that to me,
I guess you could call that kind of a,
you're just like searching for value there, right?
Like Christopher Morel is a long term asset.
Paredes is a long term asset.
You're,
you're kind of just flip flopping those guys.
I know the,
the Cubs added more into the deal as well.
well. And they, you know, their third base situation hasn't really been steady for a while now,
sort of like the Diamondbacks. And they're just kind of looking for a long-term solution there.
So I don't think that's necessarily a strict buy move. If, I mean, if if, if Parades were only
under team control through the end of the season, then that would be a very bizarre move for them.
But he's a guy who's going to be around for a couple more years.
I, I, at least is right. She says, how do the Padres law prospects to trade? It's wild.
I can't believe their farm system isn't completely depleted.
I mean, it almost is at this point, it feels like, but the Padres are just, I mean, that regime has been remarkably good.
The last five, 10 years, it just, I mean, they just always have a pretty impressive group of young talent.
And helps when you trade for one soda, like you trade one soda away.
You're going to restock.
Yeah.
Like, that's just how it goes.
Yeah, I mean, that did help them restock.
But it goes beyond that.
Like, I don't think anyone that they've, you know, no one in that Tanner Scott deal, at least to my recollection is someone they got back in the lawn Soto deal.
the Padres are just really good at always having a solid farm system.
Yeah, they get right-handed pitcher Tanner Scott,
right-handed pitcher Brian Hoeing from the Miami Marlins for
pitcher Robbie Snelling, pitcher Adam Mazur,
Graham-Pauley, infielder, Graham-Pauley,
and infielder Jay Bishers.
That's like three of their top six prospects or so,
depending on which outlet you look at.
That's a haul for Tanner Scott.
Right.
These are through the roof right now.
Yeah.
Like, it's a seller's market.
I mean, the Marlins are,
by far the most active team selling.
And it really does feel like at this point,
you are seeing them,
you know,
kind of rebuild their team for the future,
like completely do a rebuild.
That's honestly one of the things the Marlins
as a franchise does better than any team,
completely going scorched earth on their roster.
And then somehow like a Phoenix rising from the ashes of it, right?
But like you said,
the Yankees got Mark Leiter Jr.
Today we get Josh Bell.
the Boston Red Sox got Lucas Sims from the Cincinnati Reds.
Cleveland gets Alex Cobb from the San Francisco Giants that really feels like a little bit
of the end of the San Francisco Giants season just a tad bit.
I mean, of course, it's hyperbolic, but still it feels like the Giants, you know,
are kind of waving the white flag a bit.
Yeah, I mean, really what indicated that to me was when they traded Horace Salaer to the
Braves yesterday.
Oh, yeah, we haven't talked about that.
That was basically a straight up salary dump from what I
could tell. And yeah, Alex Cobb, like, I don't know exactly what the Giants were expecting to get
there. He still is not thrown a pitch this year. He had, believe, a hip surgery over the off season.
Then there was a shoulder issue that came up. It's just been set back after setback after setback for
him. So I guess you're the guardians. You're looking to capitalize on kind of a distressed asset and
see if you can, you know, get a couple of good months out of him in the rotation. But, yeah,
this might be the end of Alex Cobb's career. It's been a really, really rough year for him trying to
work back from that injury. So the Phillies get Carlo Estevez. That's one team that kind of re-up
there a little bit. Yeah. The New York Mets get Jesse Winker. And then of course, the, like you said,
there, the Jorge Saler deal. I want to say that it's looking a little bit better and better that
the, you know, the move the Diamondbacks made during the offseason to bring in Jock Peterson and
Randallich considering now that the other two assets, Justin Turner and Jorge Saler, that they were
linked to, have been traded, right? And I don't know.
And, you know, again, it's mostly just the fact that those teams aren't in a great position,
but it's also because of their salaries and the fact that right now they can dump them to, you know, a contender and actually get something for them.
I mean, the debacks could get a haul for Jack Peterson if they were in some.
They absolutely could.
That man has a 908 OPS right now.
He's been just so incredibly getting.
And it has to be tempting, right?
I mean, in this market with certain guys with Randall Gritchick with Jack Peterson with Jake McCarthy, right?
Like there are guys that are playing exceptionally well.
So it just has to be a little tempting.
But considering what this team is trying to do this season,
you can't do that.
It's why the joke, I mean, obviously,
but it's why the joke with Christian Walker kind of hit a little bit yesterday
when people were like,
maybe you got pulled because he got traded it.
It's like, well, you know,
if you traded Christian Walker right now,
you'd probably get a decent amount back.
Yeah, it's great.
And again, it's so tempting.
I don't make me bring up my Wolverine popcorn bucket analogy on eBay again.
But you guys get where I'm going with that.
sometimes it's just the right time to sell no matter how much no matter how bad you want that popcorn
bucket but uh of course jesse there uh you know slade moves into the bullpen now for the diamond
back yeah he was pretty good yesterday he not only was he pretty good but i mean again he did the
thing that he does right it's like odd but slade can come in and can give you some length as a reliever
and be awesome during that period of time as long as he only goes through the rotation one time or
just don't let any hitter seem twice that's it guaranteed homer right uh not not quite that
but yeah but don't mean he he could be excellent in this role right he really could we talk
about a j puck right they tried him out as a as a starter it did not work the reason why puck's numbers
were what they were and maybe the reason why some teams weren't up on him is because yeah they didn't
see the fact that it was mostly caused by him not being a starter never being a starter really but
put into that role and then not succeeding there.
But once he was put back in the pen,
Puck has been awesome.
And Slade could have a similar career trajectory where maybe it didn't work out well
for him as a starter because he couldn't really go through the rotation more than once.
But he could be an incredible reliever for this franchise.
Yeah, absolutely.
I mean,
sometimes the difference is truly night and day.
I mean,
it's not like,
oh,
if you're,
you know,
if you've got a four and a half ERA as a starter,
then it can work as a reliever.
But if it's up over five or six,
then,
you know,
it's just not going to work.
Right.
That's not necessarily the case.
Like Slade Sikoni, I think, has this stuff to really excel in that role.
And we did see a bit of a VLO jump for him down in AAA while he was working out of the
bullpen.
He averaged 96.2 on his four seamer compared to 94.1 when he was starting with the debacks.
We saw a little bit of a similar uptick yesterday in his first outing, you know,
back up at the big league level in the bullpen.
So, yeah, I really think that Slade could be an asset for the team in the bullpen.
and that's also why with 25 minutes to go until the deadline as we record this right now.
Give us something.
But that's why, like, I don't know if the debacks really need to go and get another bullpen arm.
It feels like that's the move they'd make if they do make another move.
And, you know, if you add Ciccone to the mix, then at that point, who are you replacing?
I mean, Cicone theoretically could take Miguel Castro spot.
Right now, the debacks are one heavy in the bullpen.
So once you get that, once you get that extra starter back,
you're going to have to make a decision on who to move out of the bullpen.
And if you make another move to acquire someone else,
then you're going to be replacing another guy in the bullpen.
Do you feel the need to replace a Bryce Jarvis?
Do you, you know, who exactly are you trying to upgrade over?
I'm not sure there's a clear answer.
And Bryce Jarvis has been damn good.
He's been damn good for this team lately.
You know, again, his early season numbers weren't great.
But Bryce is, the more Bryce kind of figures out what his role is and gets used in that role,
the better he is knowing he has a role.
He's still all over the place.
Yeah.
I mean, yeah, they're still using him like a Swiss Army knife.
And honestly, I like the fact that when we talked to Bryce in Chicago, we asked him about the usage.
And he confessed to us like, yeah, I would much rather have a role than being used the way I'm being used.
But I like the fact that I can come in and kind of be used when Tori needs me in different kind of ways.
And I mean, that he's found success there.
And even that is a role, right?
Like, once you at least know that that's how you're going to be used,
you can understand what your role is and it's not a surprise for you to be brought in in the different
situations and i think again going back to the addition of paul seawald and what he brought to this
team it was just roles that's it and i don't really think paul seawald is the key as much as it's the
fact that these these pitchers in the bullpen want to know what their role is and once they do it's
satisfying for them to understand where they're going to be asked when they're going to like you know
they just, they mentally need to prepare themselves as to when they're going to be used in a baseball game.
And I think that if the Diamondbacks can figure out a way possibly to find some more else to slide
into that, close a role and keep everybody else's roles similar, I don't know if replacing Paul Seawald is the
worst thing at the end of the day. However, I still understand what Tori's saying when he talks about
the success he Walt has had this season and when he says, I'll take, you know, 16 out of 20.
That's what he said yesterday. I will say on, it was interesting talking with Tori yesterday about Slade.
He compared him to Wade Davis, who of course pretty much all relief pitchers were failed starters.
And Wade Davis, we probably remember as being this legendary reliever who helped the Kansas City Royals do all kinds of damage for, you know, several years.
Wade Davis in 2013 made 24 starts and had a 5, 6, 7 ERA.
During that season, they moved into the bullpen.
He had a 0.9 ERA and seven appearances the rest of the way in 2013.
You go to 2014, and he threw 72 innings all out of the bullpen, had an ERA of 1.00, and got down-ballot, Cy Young votes.
Wade Davis went from failed starter to getting Cy Young votes as a reliever, and he did the exact same thing.
The next year, he had a 0.9 for ERA.
Heck, in 2015, Derek, Wade Davis got down-ballot MVP votes as a member of the Kansas City Royals bullpen.
As a reliever.
Not saying that Slate Suconni is Gary.
indeed to be the next way, Davis.
That's a pretty high bar.
But that was the,
that was the comp that,
that Tori made yesterday.
Well,
you know,
it's funny is Tori talking about
Justin Martinez getting those comments
during the All-Star game,
having people come up to him and say,
where did this guy come from?
Like,
we knew where he come from,
came from.
We watched him the whole time.
But like, really,
the key was,
there are,
there are a lot of pitchers that can throw
103 miles an hour,
but not many of them can have any kind of command or control
over the 103 mile per hour pitch.
And that's what we saw to Justin Martinez.
but we said for a while, man, if this guy can figure out a way to, you know, to get these pitches in the strike zone, he could be one of the Diamondbacks's most dangerous assets and that's what he turned into.
At times, that's what happens is people, players come out of nowhere, but realistically, it's the fact that they figured out what their role was and essentially, you know, found a way to find success in maybe a different role than what they were pitching.
Slade maybe isn't cut out to be a starter, but he could be a phenomenal bullpen arm and he could be exactly what the Diamondbacks.
we're looking for at the trade deadline.
Sometimes the in-house, you know, kind of remedy might be better than going out there
and trying to trade away assets to bring someone else in.
Maybe, you know, in some cases, maybe a guy that puts up similar numbers, right?
So I like the move for the Josh Bell still.
I think that's a good move just as far as the unknown there with having Payman Smith
be the only option to play for space.
Yeah, I think, I'm with you there, like adding a little bit of depth never,
never hurts in a spot like this.
If you don't like what you see in the first week or whatever, you can always just
move on from him. It's not that much money and then, you know, bring up Pavin Smith.
We did just get the Diamondbacks lineup for today, which I think is interesting because this is
the post-Christian Walker. Like, what does this look like? Gino Suarez is batting cleanup for the
diamond backs today. He is hitting fourth playing third base. Of course, it's still
Cotel Marte, Gabby Moreno, Lordus Correel in the top three spots. Then Gino in the cleanup spot.
You've got Ranel Grishe getting fifth, Jake McCarthy, eating six. Kevin Newman starts at first base,
hitting seventh and then it's Corbin Carroll
hitting 8th and Geraldo Prudomo batting
9th so Gino
Suarez I guess is the Diamondback's new
cleanup hitter. The way he's been hitting
I'm not opposed the way he's been hitting
I'm not opposed the only other guy that I could
have seen against a lefty
like I imagine jock probably gets that not
against righties right now but
jock's been hitting the third against righties so
it's just a matter of kind of how you want to
yeah but Lordus might have made some sense
that cleanup for me too
I just it's that's a
That's a tough pairing.
It might be, yeah, it might, maybe it is Lordus against right east.
Maybe Lordis sits fourth and jock stays hitting third.
I'll be very curious to see what that looks like.
The Marlins have made another trade, you guys.
Oh dear.
What do we, what do we got now?
Well, I don't like, is there actually going to be anybody left to play on the Marlins is my question.
That's my main concern.
Reliever Huascar Brazabon, which I'm sure I'm saying incorrectly.
Huascar Brazaban.
I'm going to say it twice wrong.
is going to the Mets from the Miami Marlins.
Okay.
Yeah, that's not a, I mean, yeah, it's not, not exactly the Tainer Scott level name.
Hey, you know, like they have to get rid of everybody by the, by three o'clock.
Jesse.
Yeah, they're going to hear a lot of names from the Marlins.
They've just decided that they're probably going to relocate.
It's actually, is actually what I'm hearing.
So they're just trying to fire several roster.
The Marlins have traded the franchise to Montreal for cash considerations.
They are now the expos.
Brazabon has had a good season.
He's made 20 appearances out of the Marlins bullpen this year.
He is 34 years old, but has been pretty good at 2.93 ERA at 263 FIP, 10 Ks per 9, 3.2 walks per 9.
He's allowed one home run all season in 30 and 2 thirds inning.
So that's not a not a bad acquisition.
The Mets and Padres are and Cardinals are really making this wild card race extreme.
Yeah, sorry.
Who did you say made this trade?
Who just got Brazabon?
The Mets.
The Mets.
Yeah, the Mets did.
Pittsburgh making some moves.
I mean, all the teams right now, the Mets got Tyler Zuber from Tampa Bay.
You know, San Diego gets Tanner Scott, Brian Hoeing.
There's a lot of action when it comes to the Diamondbacks competition here.
The Mets also got Pete Blackburn from the Oakland A's.
So this isn't great, but I still believe in the Diamondbacks.
And I still believe that they don't really have a lot of weaknesses that they have to fill, obviously.
The Christian Walker loss is a huge loss.
and you're not going to have somebody
be able to step up and give you the production,
both defensively and offensively
the Christian Walker can.
But luckily, they at least did something
that makes the team
and us as fans feel a little bit better.
Wow.
Wow.
That's a bigger one.
What happened?
The Baltimore Orioles are finalizing a deal
to acquire Eloy Jimenez.
No way.
Yeah, I haven't, I haven't thought about
Eloy Jimenez in a good way.
No, I have not either.
He has not been very good this season.
He has an 81 OPS plus, a 642 OPS, and 65 games with the White Sox.
And he's under contract for a while.
A while, right?
Although he just has team options for 25 and 26.
So I guess, I guess there's no, the Orioles are not really guaranteeing him anything beyond this year.
But yeah, I mean, it feels like with how star-studded the Orioles lineup is, like, where is it?
Why do you need Eloy Jimenez of all guys?
That's really interesting to me.
Depth, I guess.
I really don't know, but again, this is, it's weird because there are certain teams that I'm, like,
keeping my fingers crossed and wanting three o'clock to come and go without hearing from them,
without hearing them make any trades, especially some of the, some of the teams that have been
connected to, like, Garrett Crochet and other guys, right? Like, there are certain teams that I do
not want them to get better. And Baltimore is definitely one of those teams. So, Eloy Amenez is definitely
a little bit, just a little bit more comforting than if they would have possibly gotten another
guy from the Chicago White Sox that a lot of people want subteam to pick up there.
But one one team that hasn't done much is the Los Angeles Dodgers.
I know.
We really have not.
I mean, they've, they've added on the margins.
They traded for Ahmed Rosario again because apparently that's an annual thing for them now.
That's what they have.
They got Michael Kopeck as well from the White Sox.
They got Tommy Edmund.
They got rid of Miguel Vargas.
They also did get rid of Miguel Vargas.
Right.
Yeah.
As part of that trade.
It was a three-team deal with the Cardinals and the White Sox.
And yeah, they got Michael Copac and they got Tommy Edmund,
who's a nice utility player has been hurt this season, figures to kind of, you know,
the Dodgers have added depth, but they haven't added the kind of top end talent
that I figured they likely would.
But yes, Connor is rightfully accusing me of tempting the Dodgers to.
Yeah, I mean, next thing, you know, we're going to get a Garrett Crochet and Luis Robert Jr.
to the Dodgers.
Yeah, that's exactly what, yeah.
No, you get $2.509.
We're just going to end the stream on dead silence.
I take full responsibility.
Perman Carroll says Dodgers are like Beetleju's.
Don't say their name three times, okay?
Or they'll pop up and they will do something.

That's what I'll say the likes did go from 28 to 63.
So good job, chat.
Yeah, you guys are awesome.
We thank you guys so much.
Of course, we also had a crazy emergency podcast that I was not awake for last night,
but the Diamondbacks won probably the biggest win of the season,
not based on the opponent, but based on the comeback, based on the nature of it,
based on the fact that at the end of the day, Corbyn Carroll was the one hitting the walkoff home run
that won it for this.
team and times felt very good last night or at least that's what jesse and damon tell me the
times felt very good because again i was looking at the inside of my eyelids but this was i mean again
when when the diamondbacks are kind of in this race when the diamondbacks had the loss that they had
against the pirates you know on sunday this type of win is the kind of thing that can really pick
the team up and propel them you know to winning more games we still don't know if momentum's real
thing or not according to jonathan gannon but we do know that this team right now
is at least believes that there's no deficit that they can come back from you know there's no
there's no gap too big that they can't come back and win this game and like with baseball
believing in yourself and believing in your team that that can make you very dangerous yeah we did
we did just get an update about christian walker um obviously we are here and not in the clubhouse
right now doing the show so uh we missed christian walker talking in the clubhouse which is fine
there's an influx of about 72 tweets that just went out uh christian walker
said that he expects to miss three weeks-ish that's what nick picorro just tweeted a few minutes ago so i will
sign up for that any day of the week that's yeah that feels like close to the best case scenario
uh given what we saw well not really what we saw like honestly i i i looked back at his at bat i couldn't
even really christian walker is very tough as you said earlier derrick because i couldn't find any wintzing or
really anything that looked like he was hurted visually that's why that's why that's
That's why I think everybody thought it was on the catch right as the catch felt like that was the only moment where he he did something awkward
Yeah, you like contorted his body or kind of a weird way to make this kind of fade away throw back to the infield
But yeah, so three weeks is not that sounds like a like a yeah low low grade oblique strain so pretty good news there for the devax and who knows?
Maybe Josh Bell comes in here and absolutely rakes and makes this deal look incredible and the Diamondback somehow
add a body to this team that can help them win down the stretch are you are you suggesting
that Christian Walker is about to get Wally pipped because I would never suggest that in a million
book you know Smith no I'm just saying right like you know you know you imagine in three weeks he's like
you know sorry man we'll try to get you some dhs yeah we'll get you some we'll get some playing time
somewhere but Josh has won the position you know sorry you could maybe learn like how to play shortstop
or something like you we don't you take her all the
Domo out of my line up, Jesse.
Christian Walker, I think he was a catcher in high school or college, one of those two, I'm
forgetting.
Maybe, yeah, maybe he becomes a, you know, a backup catcher.
Who knows?
Someone asked in the chat, what, if we have air conditioning in our, we absolutely have air
conditioning in our studio.
We do.
We just don't have it during very late times at night, like when Damon was in here all by
himself last night doing that show.
And it's mostly just a matter of requesting it.
it's really just on us as, you know, to see ahead.
But we don't know when they're going to come back and win,
especially after Jordan Montgomery's awful first inning last night.
That's why I went to bed early because that game looked like a wrap when they were down by six to nothing.
But I'm glad they proved to me wrong.
And I'm glad this team stays as hot as they do.
Of course, we're going to stay on all the way up till this trade deadline ends.
Hopefully we'll hear something.
Maybe something happens afterwards.
If that's the case, we will be talking with Mike Hazen over at Chase Field.
And then we will be bringing you a postgame show to.
tonight after tonight's game two against the nationals. So come on back tonight. And of course,
we can chat about anything else that we might have missed. But I do briefly, I briefly, I wanted
to just give, I guess, our condolences to the family, friends, and teammates of Reyes Maranta.
He was a former Arizona Diamondback pitcher, a pitcher who I adored. I loved Reyes Maranta.
I thought he was honestly one of the most incredible things that came into my life. I love, I love Big
fellas so much and I loved Reyes. So unfortunately Reyes passed away in a traffic accident on
Sunday. But again, we just wanted to send our condolences out and say rest in peace, man. Big
man definitely did some fun things for this team and it's a definite tragedy that he lost
his life at such a young age. But again, just remember, man, tomorrow's not promised. So got to make sure
to make the best of every day. And that's why we try to make the most out of every single day on this
podcast. Every year is our year. You know the thing we say on Monday. But of course, you know,
last night's wild game just makes you feel alive, makes you feel like this team is a special
team. And we didn't have a lot of moments like this at this time last year. In fact, things looked
incredibly bleak as we entered the month of August last year. We had no idea what the future held
for the Diamondbacks. And while the future might not look bleak right now for this team, it definitely
still has a lot of mystery. There's there. We have no idea what's going to happen, especially
now with Christian Walker out and you know what the month of August holds for this team yeah uh on as far
as trade news in the final minutes here ken rosenthal just tweeted the garret crochet will not be traded
so that's kind of interesting still wonder how much the comments that he made that we released
impacted that because i know i mean he was number one in a lot of pitching categories across the league so
it felt it felt like you know hey that we thought that that was going to be something that was a
slam dunk and then he says he's not going to pitch at least he's not a dodger yeah yeah that's that's a
that's a that's a win from from the debacks and if we get if we get to the end of this trade deadline
without you know without the dodgers making a move i mean i almost think that's more of a win than
the diamondbacks making a move and i know we're not we're not in competition with the dodgers
but let's be real they've kind of come back down to earth a little bit and of course you know it's
it is one thing to be playing for the wild card and i still think that's where our focus should be
but the Diamondbacks aren't outrageously out of first place right now in the National League West,
and any kind of collapsed from that team could result in the Diamondbacks having a chain,
like that extra opportunity to potentially make it into the playoffs one way or another.
And man, would it be sweet to take the NL West or even watch the Padres,
honestly, take the NL West over the Dodgers and have both us and the Padres make it in over the Dodgers,
but one can only dream.
That's probably a far off wish.
Regardless, though, I think that the fact that Diamondbacks do,
have some games left against the Dodgers and of course this battle right now they said
Connor said Dodgers made a trade they did yeah they just got Kevin Kiermeyer so if you want to
there it is if you want to oh I'm sure there's more that's just the start of it there it is yeah
we'll probably get like 20 more of them here in the last minute due to my words but oh they traded
Ryan Yarbrough to the Blue Jays interesting that is what is interesting about the Dodgers moves has
been the players that they've given up yeah I mean Ryan Yarbrough I believe
they just designated for assignment,
if I'm not mistaken,
to make room for guys in some of the other trades they made.
So that's not a,
you know,
not a huge move.
Kevin Kiermeyer's numbers for this season.
I can find these real quick.
It's not,
uh,
oh,
they just made a bigger move.
Did they?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You guys can all blame me.
It's my fault.
I was literally,
I was about to say,
Derek,
not going to lie.
I almost interrupted you.
there was one player that I knew was going to be traded before the trade deadline.
It was a pretty big deal and it was Jack Flaherty.
Absolutely.
And there you go.
The Dodgers land Jack Flaherty.
The Dodgers.
As we're in the middle of talking about the Dodgers.
Yeah.
They very much needed like this feels like a necessary move for them, honestly.
I mean, the Dodgers rotation right now is in a little bit dangerous territory.
I know Clayton Kershaw just came back for them.
but their yeah their depth has
really thinned out as the season has gone along obviously they moved
James Paxton but yeah that's that's a that's a big acquisition like Jack
Flaherty has really come out of nowhere this season and had a you know a really
outstanding turnaround at 295 ERA and 18 starts so that's a that's a pretty big gap
for them I still don't understand what the white talks are doing and at least right at least it's
not scoble Rosenthal does I still said it too Rosenthal did say
apparently right now the decision rests with Detroit
he's reporting something slightly different he says dodgers are in serious
discussions to acquire jack flarity sources
interesting say decision apparently rests with Detroit I would I would suspect that if
I mean if pass and tweeted the deal is done the deal is the deal is honestly done I think
that's I think that's about all we need to know there I don't know do people like to
know people in the NBA they like to keep score of like woge versus shams and like
who's one more.
You don't,
I haven't ever go against passing.
I haven't been keeping scored, Derek,
but it feels like Passon is taking the majority of the W so far today.
Passon never misses.
Passon does not miss.
So,
I mean,
honestly,
again,
words don't jinx the trade deadline.
So as much fun as it is to say that the Diamondbacks are that we're
jinxing it by saying this stuff,
it's merely because we were surprised that the Dodgers hadn't made any moves.
And of course,
here they are.
Here are the moves that we're talking about.
Elise says Detroit waiting on another offer from the Yankees.
Let's go.
I've never been rooting for the Yankees harder than I am right now.
This is a resident GM.
She says Belize is a known baseball GM.
So there's a very good chance that Elise absolutely could be correct in regards to that.
But of course, if you are here right now, make sure to hit that like button.
We're past 69 likes.
So I guess now we can just try to get as many as possible.
But it was funny that we landed there.
There is according, I have to say this, according to John Gamadora, there is a deal possibly in the works right now for the Arizona.
For the Arizona Diamond D-Backs working on a reliever.
Okay.
Well, I guess that means we are not going anywhere, Jesse.
That means we're not leaving.
Yeah, we have maybe, so we'll just pull the curtain back.
Mike Hazen is scheduled to speak to the media about, what, a 10-minute drive slash walk and down to the Chasefield interview room at 3.30.
Yeah.
So we can maybe stick around until, well, I guess it depends because I know we're not the only show that.
Yeah, they're just going to have to deal, I think.
If you guys want to talk for a second, let me go, let me go, let me go,
I'm going to go make some moves.
This is what happens around here.
When we only have two studios, sometimes you have to maybe pay someone off to let you stay in this.
It is interesting that Kyle Finnegan is in Arizona right now.
Yeah.
That's intriguing.
A couple of a few names that maybe come to mind here.
So, yeah, I guess, I guess Carl Finnegan is one.
I would be pretty surprised there.
Read Detmerz is more of a starter.
I don't think it's him.
Finnegan is under team control for 2025.
So I don't think the Nationals have to deal Finnegan.
I do think it might be in the Nationals' best interest to deal someone that we talked
about the other day, which would be Dylan Floreau, who is scheduled to become a free agent
at the end of the season.
Has this just been released?
Is it Kyle Finnegan?
Did the Diamondbacks just score five runs on Kyle Finnegan?
And then ruin.
And then acquire him the very next day.
Please tell me that's exactly.
I think people are suspecting.
I'm not seeing anything along those lines.
But another name that comes to mind here,
hopefully he has not already been dealt and I missed it,
but Luis Garcia of the Los Angeles Angels is also a free agent at the end of the year.
And as a 371 ERA,
veteran guy 37 years old,
but could maybe help lengthen out the bullpen.
If the debacks were going real crazy,
Pete Fairbanks of the Tampa Bay race,
is also a name that's been floated around.
The rays are certainly
have been very, very aggressive at the trade
deadline so far this season.
So that would surprise me.
Fairbanks is a back end reliever.
He's taken a bit of a step back this year,
a 3-1-1-ERA,
strikeouts per nine below nine
this season compared to 13.5 a year ago.
I think his VLO has dropped a little bit as well.
But he would be another big name.
He has, he is under contract through next season
and has a team option for 2026.
So the debacks are trading for Pete Fairbanks.
That's probably going to be quite a haul going back to Tampa Bay.
We got some other moves Yankees to acquire annual De Los Santos from the San Diego Padres.
We looks like the Jack Flaherty being traded to the Dodgers for Jeff Passon is a go.
Yeah, no surprises there.
Pencils down.
It's 3.01.
So no more trades.
You're not allowed to make any more trades.
If they were not submitted.
If it was not submitted already.
We're done.
So this brings me back, and I'm sure other people in the chat probably remember this as well.
When the Diamondbacks traded Zach Granky to the Houston Astros in 2019.
Luis Garcia, by the way, to the Red Sox.
Okay.
So it is not Luis Garcia.
Martin Perez to the Padres.
It would be very funny if the Debex were trading for a member of the Nationals and he literally just had to walk across the stadium today.
That would be pretty great.
Yeah, it would be amazing.
But yeah, so in 2019, when the DeBacks traded Granky to the Astros, it, I believe,
believe the tweets came out at maybe eight to 10 minutes after the technical deadline.
So we could be, yeah, we, we might have to wait five, ten, maybe even 15 minutes to figure
out what this is if the debacks are in fact doing something.
Yep.
And the Yankees blew it.
Good job, Yankees.
Just like you blow it all the time.
Well, of course, let's see.
We also have a few other moves kind of trickling in here.
the Tampa Bay Razor acquiring Dylan Carlson.
Figure I can't just play the sounder on repeat here,
which is going to happen.
It would happen for like the next.
You can play it if we find out if the dime backs get.
If you see it,
Jacob,
you're welcome to play it.
Otherwise,
you're just going to be playing the thing on repeat.
Cubs are officially done according to Kent Rosenthal.
Cubs are done.
Yeah.
Okay.
Jameson stays in Chicago.
We're still waiting to hear.
We're still waiting to hear.
So the razor requires.
Dylan Carlson that's interesting what I don't understand what some of these teams really are doing
I really don't to raise it's been quite a fire sale they've traded away a lot of players and Dylan
Carlson's kind of a distressed asset right now he has a 515 OPS this season uh as a member of the
st. Louis Cardinals certainly been better than that in the past uh you know was a rookie of the year
candidate back in 2021 hasn't really been a great a great player here over the last last couple years for the
cardinals Gambo said it's not
Finnegan, interesting.
Gambo does like to take the approach of saying who it is not.
Yeah, yeah.
He narrows it down.
He likes to narrow it down and then eventually you.
You got to whittle it away, right?
Yeah, I mean, if it's Mason Miller, then we'll all sit here and rejoice.
I just like any of the big, like the big names you have in your head, I would be really
surprised at the debacks did that.
You've already got, I mean, unless they are seriously concerned about Paul Seawald,
and they're like, yes, we very well might replace Paul Seawald next week.
as in our closer role and we want somebody who is darn good to kind of you know to help us
finish games the rest of the year um i i would be surprised if it was one of those bigger names it
feels like it's more of a mid-tier guide just to add some add some length at maybe a price that's
not all that high at this point um well we have no idea but we'll stay alive here until uh we're
we're cutting a little close there i feel okay about about three four minutes maybe
then my internal anxiety is not going to be okay.
This clock starts going on.
If it hits 3.10, we can.
Can you just pick up the camera, Jacob, and just follow us to Chase Field?
Yeah, we'll just do this from the press room at Chase Field.
Now, of course, we will tell you guys, we will bring you guys, of course, all of the news tonight on tonight's postgame show.
So make sure to come back here and join us for that.
Oh, Gambo just said it is from the Nationals.
Okay, so it's probably Dylan Floreau.
would be my guess.
And it's not Kyle Finnegan.
Yeah,
it's probably Dylan Flora.
Oh,
well,
now Jesse,
now we're not going anywhere.
Gambo continues to just narrow it down.
It feels like he knows.
He's just kind of messing up,
he doesn't want to say it.
Emotions.
So yeah,
this makes it hilarious
because the Diamondbacks
are trading for a player
who is currently like 20 feet away.
He could probably play tonight.
He could probably play tonight,
theoretically.
So,
uh,
Andreas Munoz?
Who is that?
Andres Munoz is on the Mariners.
There's no way it's Anders Munoz.
Okay, I'm just,
Dix Mioshi is a liar, a known liar.
So Derek Law is another,
another very reputable reliever on the Nationals,
Jacob Barnes as well.
We saw Derek Law pitch yesterday.
He has a 3-27 ERA.
Jacob Barnes has a 359 ERA.
Come on.
I can look up those guys' contract situations.
I don't know that off the top of my head.
This is where we need Jeff passing to step up
for us.
Derek Law is very affordable this season, making about 500K the rest of the year, is under
team control for next season, has a 3-2-70 RA, as I said.
And then Jacob Barnes, who we also saw pitch yesterday, is a free agent at the end of this year.
So Jacob Barnes, Dylan Floro, those are the guys who are on expiring contracts that would make
really all the sense in the world for the nationals to trade.
Tilling Flores has been really good.
Dylan Flora has been good.
He's an interesting case because his,
his Velo's actually dropped pretty significantly this year.
But, yeah, we talked about him on the show the other day as a potential candidate for the Vax.
He's on an expiring deal.
You figure it wouldn't cost all that much.
I like Truman Lambs comment.
Get ready to learn bullpen, Patrick Corbyn.
I still, just for comedy purposes, I want it to be Finnegan.
I want it to be Finnegan so much, Jesse.
I mean, he already said, Gambo already said that it's not Finnegan, right?
That was via a comment in the chat.
It was never tweeted.
So it must have been on air.
Which it very well could be.
Okay.
Yeah.
So, okay.
Yeah, maybe it was, yeah, I'm sure it was probably on air then.
Well, let's, do you want to talk about Dylan Floros numbers?
Yeah, I guess.
It is official.
Dylan Floro.
Dylan Floro.
Okay.
All right.
You know what, Derek?
We can see the future.
Shout out Gambo who had it.
Yep, there you go.
Shout out Gambo.
Um, yeah, so Dylan Floro guy we discussed the other day.
Uh, he has very good numbers this season.
Jacob, at one point, we did make a graphic for Dylan Floro.
It might be hard to, yeah, let me see if I can digs.
Yeah, no worries.
If not, we got to get out of here pretty soon anyway.
Uh, but just real quick on Dylan Floro, as I was discussing earlier, his
Velo has dropped pretty significantly this season, but somehow the results have been
basically as good as ever.
Uh, last year his four seamer average 92.
I guess his sinker is really.
primary fastball.
Last year, it average 92, 7.
This year it average 90.1.
I love this man's beard, Jesse.
I love his beard so much.
He does have quality facial hair.
Welcome to the Arizona Diamondbacks, Dylan Floreau.
52 in a third innings pitch, 2.06 ERA, 1.05 whip, 6.9 strikeouts per 9, which that was,
I guess that was his flaw there is his strikeouts per 9 rate, 2.2 walks per 9 and a 2.6.1
fit.
There you go.
Yeah, it's a really good number.
the strikeouts have dropped this season,
but in terms of just quality of contact,
the numbers there look really good.
So yeah, is he a closer?
Probably not,
but he's a guy who can absolutely pitch in,
you know, six, seventh eighth inning
in important situations
and is going to be an upgrade over
whomever the Diamondbacks choose to send out,
which will be very interesting.
I don't, I would imagine that frankly,
Miguel Castro,
I'd be a little surprised if he was still on this roster
you know next week when the debacks if the debacks wind up bringing in a starter to pitch against
the guardians next week so um yeah it happened derrick and it happened we didn't find out like two minutes
after we didn't find out until about seven minutes or eight minutes after the deadlines we got to
