Starting point is 00:00:37 My name is Derek Montia, occasionally known as your mayor of HNX, This man next to me is my vice mayor, occasionally known as the actual mayor of Phoenix. Yeah, right. He's taken over. He's already better at me than everything. We've already, we've already confirmed that. But speaking of being better at everybody than right now, it's the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Diamondbacks right now are the hottest team in Major League Baseball.
Starting point is 00:01:00 And again, it's just, it feels a little weird to say that. I am a guy that tends to overreact. So, of course, it sounds crazy. Coming out in my mouth, it doesn't sound right. But it's factual. This team is amazing right now. They just beat Boston Red Sox at Fenway, take it sweeping the series.
Starting point is 00:01:15 I mean, shut up the Marlins before that, that, I mean, just if anyone's counting, I'm 6 and 0 since coming on the podcast. Correct. I'm back to our undefeated.
Starting point is 00:01:23 You may have also snapped the curse with our friend Elizabeth because she was in attendance in Boston. And she saw those games. Shout out. I don't know if that was a smart move. Yeah. You know, after the discussion I had.
Starting point is 00:01:33 Yeah, she was just testing things out. But yeah, I mean, clean sweep in Miami, which we talked about, you know, you never guaranteed. to win a series, but that's a series you look at. You should win. Good start by Abordo the last day and then going to Boston.
Starting point is 00:01:46 Merrill Gallen bounce back. Gallen especially. Yeah. And offense, I mean, again, just Gino carried the team. I could go on and on. It was all around unbelievable road trip considering for the way it started. Now you come back home and a real good chance to, I mean, really, again, you go into the last couple days of August and into September.
Starting point is 00:02:06 Again, not guaranteed, but if you do the right things, you're going to make the playoffs and a real chance to run down the Dodgers now and win a division. Yeah. And we're going to talk about that because people add questions for our mailbag Monday, of course, in regards to, you know, about winning that division. But they are 31 and 11 now since July 7th, which is when Corbyn Carroll started his tear. And of course, it kind of seems like everything kind of came together. Gino also, like you said, just a huge part of this team.
Starting point is 00:02:31 I mean, Gina, we're going to take a look at the numbers here. But Gino outscored the Boston Red Sox by himself, right, in the series. But the big thing in this series was pitching. And the D-backs pitching dominated the Red Sox. You had Nelson go out there, six innings pitched, five hits, two earn runs, one walks, seven K's. You got gallon six inning pitch, scoreless, two hits, four walks, nine K. And then Merrill Kelly, six innings, seven hits, four earned, three walks, five K. And I mean, again, you can't say enough about the bullpen going or the starter's going out there giving you six innings every single night.
Starting point is 00:03:02 Yep. I mean, that's the formulation or that's the formula to be a good baseball team when you're getting consistent. I'm not calling deep outings, but in today's game, deep outings getting into that six, where I talked about it last week, you can turn your pin over and start to use guys in their natural roles and things just click and take place from there. Yeah. And then the bullpen, of course, did their work. Yeah, bullpen. I mean, two, two run runs in the series. Two earned runs.
Starting point is 00:03:27 I think J. Mart had two saves during the series or the road trip. I mean, when we talked about J. Mark getting into his own as a closer, but when you start to solidify some roles that have been a little shaky, you know, previously. And guys just, again, when you're playing baseball like this and especially the way we've swung the bat lately, we're a homer away from doing something. That gives you so much confidence coming out of the pin.
Starting point is 00:03:52 You can come out and just rip it knowing that your offense is going to score runs behind you. So you have some leeway to be more aggressive and attack guys. And I think that's what they're doing. Boston is not an easy place to play, Fenway Park. I mean, you know, great place to play. It's a great place to play, right? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:08 Yeah, oh yeah. I mean, not an easy place to play at all. I mean, even in their down years, their fans show up. They support the dugout again. It's like Tropicana. There's things about it. There's a lore to it first. You know, you think about all the greats and Babe Ruth and the trade and all these things.
Starting point is 00:04:27 And I still, you know, I don't think the seat where Ted Williams hit the ball is real. It's Ted Williams, right? Yeah, yeah. And like, I don't know if anyone's been out there, but if you go out to Fenway and go sit in that seat, man, he didn't hit a baseball there. I'm sorry. Like, I'm here to debunk some things, but go look at the greatest David Ortiz highlights of him mashing homers into right field. And they come nowhere close to that red seat in there. So no offense, Ted, I'm calling BS on that one.
Starting point is 00:04:57 But the wall, especially as a starting pitcher, the bullpen stinks. It is a cracker jackbox. I mean, he is tight. Fans are all over you. the bathroom is really weird you have to shut the door people can see you use the bathroom oh my god um i'm dead serious like it's really bad especially when you have to take a poop like it gets weird you have to have a guy watch the door and it's it can get like we all of our routines we put red hot on medicine stretching like it's and then like with the new wave of baseball like all
Starting point is 00:05:29 the plio balls and stuff you know like i's selling the waded balls to get ready yeah there's like times where plio balls get thrown over the walls and stuff And then literally like the fans like the mound where the rubber is, there's then maybe three feet of dirt and then there's seats right there. Yeah. Yeah. And, you know, Boston, they're not afraid to talk shit to you. Right. Right.
Starting point is 00:05:50 You know, you get talk. There's a lot of times people yell and cuss and stuff like that. But Boston, they are literally like in your ear. Yeah. Yeah. So. And they're already loud. They don't need to be that close.
Starting point is 00:06:00 Already loud. And just even the mound seems a little weird at Fimway, different backdrop. But incredible. atmosphere. And as a young player, some of these guys going in, being on a team that's one of the best teams in baseball, playing in Finway, Sweet Carolina. I mean, it's, it's as good as it gets as a baseball player. Yeah, it's, I felt that way about Wrigley when I went for my first time. There's just something that's incredibly special about it and incredibly unique that you don't really get, you know, at other ballpark. No, you know. I mean, especially I think our era and like
Starting point is 00:06:33 our guys grew up watching like that first Red Sox team come. back and beat the Yankees and go on to win the world series and being teammates with Bronson-Oroyo later on and getting to talk to them about that experience and again facing I remember my first start in Boston in 2016 I struck out Big Poppy on three straight pitches three straight heaters you can we can run that tape if we can find that three straight heaters by Big Poppy big strut around the mountain I gave up six runs in the fourth inning and got a loss later on but whatever you know yeah when you're there it's special again you think about the history of the game and the pesky pole and i gave up a homer sandy leone that literally wrapped around
Starting point is 00:07:10 and perdomo hitting the ball off the like little stuff like that that you grew up watching that are now i know you're still playing in the in the big leagues but there's moments like that that you get reminded like man this is so cool what i'm doing right that history that history tied to it is really cool but the diamondbacks didn't seem to get intimidated by that no they will not one of the boston red socks let's take a look at the count presented by desert financial credit union uh because the diamondbacks definitely did not hesitate to keep their foot on the pedal here after winning like you said that series
Starting point is 00:07:39 against Marlins sweeping that series they come into Boston they outscore the Red Sox 23 to 8 they out hit them 32 to 10 runners in scoring position Diamondbacks were 9 for 29 Red Sox did not have many opportunities 2 for 15 I believe the Diamondbacks had more opportunities in game 1 than the Red Sox
Starting point is 00:07:55 had in this entire series and that was kind of the key here is again the pitching dominated the starting pitching ERA 3 the relief pitching ERA two for the diamond backs you have 7.16 for the starting pitching a r a for the red sox and 8.43 for their bullpen so the diamond backs did a lot of damage in this one of course they won game one uh 12 to two game the finale was a bit closer that one got to be uh seven to five that one's a little bit of a nail bite or late but uh the diamond backs pulled it out and of course uh they did it with their
Starting point is 00:08:24 offense in this in this series too they they absolutely uh you know kind of set the tone there in game one by winning by 10 runs that this was not going to be a diamondbacks team that was going to be intimidated by that magic there at Fenway and they came in and rolled over the Red Sox. It's good to see. And obviously, it's really weird for the Diamondbacks to have had the road trip that they have end up being six and three. And three of those losses were part of a sweep. Like, that's crazy. 20 and five in their last 25 games. And that record, again, has three games. that they lost to the Tampa Bay Rays in there, which is just incredible. It shows how good this team has been.
Starting point is 00:09:05 And there's been those moments too, like July had those stretches where like you kind of said like, could you imagine what they, what the stretch they would be on if Seawald didn't have those blown saves, right? Would have been like 10 games in a row plus, you know, and of course, that's baseball. You can't sit there and always say like, hey, you should have won all those games because you didn't. But right now they are just on an incredible role. And again, that bullpen, that bullpen has been solid for this team.
Starting point is 00:09:29 Bullpen's been solid. Again, it's always about getting hot at the right time. That's why baseball is so beautiful. It's such a long season. There's so many ebbs and flows. And again, I look at this team. It's a really good mix of young and old guys. But some of these young guys went on this crazy deep World Series run last year.
Starting point is 00:09:47 So they know what it's like to go into September with a chance to make the playoffs and make this run. For me, again, it starts with you talk about the bullpen. I'm a pitcher, but I want to talk about the offense. Okay. I mean, six point three, three runs per game, best in baseball. It leads into pitching, what I want to talk about. When you know you're going to score runs, it is so much easier to pitch. I mentioned that earlier.
Starting point is 00:10:10 And you're starting to see some guys hit stride. We talked about we're not even fully healthy. Some young guys coming up hitting some big, big homers. And then Gino, has led to league in homers before, starting to see a hot Gino. Yeah. The homers start to multiply. It's contagious. McCarthy, Perdomo, Homer twice on the road trip, a moonshot in Miami.
Starting point is 00:10:34 Yes. I mean, a moonshot. That ball is touched. And then, yeah, Gino, again, I play with Gino in Cincinnati. I've watched him do his thing. It's, I kind of think what everyone was expecting more of during the season, but it's happening now. Leads, I think, to major leagues in RBI since July 1st.
Starting point is 00:10:51 That's right. Again, it's Marte's out. Someone needs to step up right now. and I mean, at least in Boston, Gino carried the offense. Yeah, he absolutely did. And you brought up his number since July 1st, 311 batting average, 55 hits, 14 home runs, 36 runs scored 47 RBI.
Starting point is 00:11:10 I mean, look at this. This is incredible what he's been doing. And again, like you said, like it's about when you get hot. And you can say something similar. Like obviously Corbyn Carroll isn't this hot, but in this stretch, Corbyn has also been very good. And like the season numbers are what they are.
Starting point is 00:11:25 I don't really care. He has 12 homers since that time. I mean, so the power production, especially before, I mean, obviously I do some research coming into this, watch the games. But he was, I think he hit a homer like July 7th, July 8th. I read something and he was like it was like a 54 game homerless streak. And then since then the power has really started to come back and didn't have a home run in June. It's like, again, from a player's perspective, it's crazy. We know the game is hard.
Starting point is 00:11:53 But like when you think about you don't hit a homer for a month, you're like, I just forget. to get homers all of a sudden. You really do start questioning yourself when you go on those kinds of I think that's the most difficult part from any perspective is when you struggle truly maintaining balance like your routine versus also like, okay, it's been two weeks now. Should I start tinkering or something in my hands? Yeah. And in today's age, the video and all the Olympics, it can be so helpful.
Starting point is 00:12:20 But also sometimes, man, baseball is just really hard. Like I think, you know, that's what we forget is just guys are throwing really hard. hard and it's a tough game sometimes and but yeah crazy those two guys um and again this great veteran mix you throw jock in there you mix these young guys in it's a it's a really exciting fun team like i said when i watch this team play it makes me smile right now yeah they're fun to watch it brings me joy you you feel like they're not there's no lead that's insurmountable right they were down like four to nothing on sunday and like it did kind of feel like i don't know i guess you know, you start, you start realizing like it's a baseball team.
Starting point is 00:12:58 They're going to lose games. So you're down for nothing. But in the back of my mind, I never felt like they were really out of it. No. And earlier this season, there's no way you could have said the same thing. If they were down by two, you were like, well, this is a rap. I can go on and watch something else. Correct.
Starting point is 00:13:12 And there's just things happening. Like even little things that lead to bigger moments, sack flies, guys doing some small things here and there. And again, it's confidence, man. Like when you're scoring runs and then I talked about it previously when the back end of your bullpen is shutting down games and there's belief in that back end, it makes it so much easier to just turn the ball over. You know, instead of Tori having to manipulate and try to piece together, it's like, hey, boom, boom, let's get this game over with. Well, of course, Gino was insane in Boston and he is our king snake for this series. Congrats, you know.
Starting point is 00:13:50 Eight for 13, 615 batting average. 10 RBI. Like I said, he outscored the Boston Red Sox by himself. 10 RBI for Gino, eight runs scored by the Red Sox in the series. And those two home runs, of course. And yeah, he's just been incredible. Like you said, it's weird because the Diamondbacks kind of have this, you know, this thing at times where they go out, they try to make themselves better.
Starting point is 00:14:14 They bring somebody on, whether it's a pitcher, whether it's a position player. And they struggle. And it felt in the beginning of the season. season like, you know, nothing was going their way, right? Like it felt like nothing was going their way. And they're like, you're like, you're like jock. At least jock is doing good. But it's like, felt like every other move they made was kind of like a disaster. And now it doesn't look like that anymore. And everything has kind of come together where this feels like a very, very well-rounded deep team that that depth is why they were able to overcome the injuries that they've, that,
Starting point is 00:14:45 you know, that- I mean, right now you look surplus of starting pitching. Yeah. You know, I mean, I mean, obviously, we'll get into it, Montgomery, going to the pen. We'll talk about that. But, I mean, typically that's always you're going to September. Like, man, how are we going to piece together this rotation? We're missing a guy. This guy's banged up. Surplus of pitching.
Starting point is 00:15:03 We talked about it. Weather the storm. That's the one thing I learned a little bit later in my career and especially now not playing, following along. Man, there's just, the season's so long. Like, I know the first part, you know, all these crazy losses and you're so far back in the division and you're like, oh, like, another, where, you know, season's over. And it's like, dude, the season is so long.
Starting point is 00:15:24 Yeah. Like, you literally look at a month's difference. I mean, maybe a month and a half of this case, they're Diamondbacks, but they've erased like an eight game. They were like 14 games back. We're like 12, 13. Now they're eight or they're like four, three games back. I mean, it's just like, let's pump the brakes a little bit.
Starting point is 00:15:42 We're all, we all want immediate, you know, success and satisfaction. But it's a long season. And the debacks are hitting their stride. what I think is at the perfect time. And we talked about it going into a schedule where you get to control what they do. Instead of like having a make ground, they have a wild card spot. And they have a true chance to just keep playing this free flowing fun baseball and chase down this juggernaut dogger team with the biggest salary and Otani and mooky bets. And again, it just reminds me of our run in 17, except better, like a better team.
Starting point is 00:16:16 You know, as crazy as that sounds. and again, I still think, I don't know if we have word, how close Walker is. He's supposed to be, like the word is either the Dodger series or the following series after that. I mean,
Starting point is 00:16:29 and then again, you talk about options and, you know, you're talking about bats everywhere, lefties, righties, like matchups. And again,
Starting point is 00:16:38 it's stuff you're able to understand a lot more now. You look at even some of the matchups going lefties against the Marlins and Ritey's in Boston, you know, you're able to do some stuff creatively, with your roster that is a luxury.
Starting point is 00:16:50 Right. And what I see the most that reminds me most of that team is guys are bought in. Guys are, you know, I'm sure it's not ideal for Montgomery. You go to the bullpen, but I bet your ass he's going to go down there and shove. You know what I mean? It's, he's a professional, and now's not the time to care or feel sorry for yourself. We're trying to go win a division and make the playoffs. Well, let's talk about it because obviously you have a lot of experience there
Starting point is 00:17:13 when it comes to being a starter that went down to the plan. Put the iPad down for this one. I don't need notes. I don't need notes for that word. But like, yeah, no, I mean, you, you shove. Like, I remember at one point, Tori telling us, like, if you weren't doing so well as a reliever, they would have considered maybe putting you back at the starter. But you are such a valuable weapon.
Starting point is 00:17:34 And, like, sometimes you would come in and just basically pitch an entire game sometimes. You know, I mean, I remember seeing you do that on an occasion. So, like, you just had a lot of versatility to your game coming out of the pen. and it just felt like, you know, they couldn't really move you. But like as a starter that moves down to the pen, what's your mentality like? It's the first couple days are tough. I would think the again, not that I'm giving advice to Jordan, but I mean, every, we're all human. We're all the same.
Starting point is 00:18:02 The first couple days, you're so in your head about being in the bullpen. Oh, who all notices are people still talking shit about me? Like, you know, am I going to pitch in some mop-up role this game? Like in some ways you are pouting in your head, right? You're like, I just got moved from my spot. I was, you know, one of the best pitchers in the big leagues last year. Like, it's all human thoughts that you can't help but think. But I would imagine, I mean, he's on a one-year deal here, right?
Starting point is 00:18:26 Well, he has a player option. Player option. Yeah. Good for him. Good agent. Yeah. But he's pitching for his contract next year. He's pitching for his future.
Starting point is 00:18:35 So my thing is, like I said, you look at it like, all right, I can pout, I can cry, or I'm still making a lot of money. I'm on a really damn good baseball team. Let's help and contribute the best way I can. because again next week he could be right back in the rotation i mean like you know god forbid knock on wood but injuries things happen yeah you just never know you just never know and he's a pro and he's going to go down there and he's going to pitch big meaningful innings and and i wouldn't be surprised if there's a spot down the road that he's back in the rotation making a start somewhere would you have made the
Starting point is 00:19:06 same move like with how well ryan nelson's pitching i think you have to yeah you know you have the luxury it's not that you want to sit here and flip guys back and forth and like oh you're starting this week you're in the bullpen but you do have that luxury and again being out of the game unfortunately that's what this is about it's about trying to win and they don't it doesn't matter how many starts this guy gets it's like who's the hot hand what's the best matchup i heard tory talking about it today they're able to piece together some matchups and you know spread some things out and maybe get gown and merrill some extra starts you know um like sorry she's what you got to do especially you know i think we talked about it nelson just kept pitching better when you that's that's what you do as a player
Starting point is 00:19:45 when you keep throwing the ball well, you put yourself in a position for them to have to make decisions like this. Right. And it's what it's about. You want to make it difficult on it. And it's nothing personal to Jordan, but it's we're trying to win baseball games. And I think this is the best opportunity right now to win.
Starting point is 00:20:00 Well, we'll have some more questions for Archie here when we come back from our break. But first, we thank you guys for being here in the PHN exports YouTube channel. Starting point is 00:22:33 I mean that may not be the popular opinion. But. Yeah. I'm Jesse here. I don't have Jesse here. rolling me down. I got Archie here back to you. You lose, Jesse. Let's go. But you know, I'll take, I've won one. I say I've one. I guess we split. Phil Gossel and I were co-teammates for a team in a couple years ago. And we split the championship with Daniel Hudson. We decided just to split the
Starting point is 00:22:55 money down the middle instead of risking winning or losing, which was a very unpopular opinion in the clubhouse. You guys did not. Which I was the younger arch. Like now, I would say, I've been like, that's bullshit. Like, come on. Well, of course, you can find. me and Archie hanging out at Heelah River Resorts and Casinos. You can also find all of us down there for that fantasy football draft. We're going to have a great time. We'll be hosting all sorts of events there all year long, including Cards and Sons Watch parties. So make sure to join us for fun.
Starting point is 00:23:21 And make sure you just go check out Heila River Resorts and Casinos. They have for an unprecedented level of entertainment and excitement you just won't find anywhere else. And of course, they have their huge gaming floor with all sorts of live gaming. They have 800 slot machines, 15 blackjack tables. And of course, Arizona's largest casino sports books. So like Archie said, you do you at Heela Riversorts and Casinos. Visit play athella.com for more details. Before we move on, Derek, I actually have an ad video I have to play here.
Starting point is 00:23:48 As an Arizona sports fan, are you better off than you were in September of 2021? Are you better since this man took office? The answer is simply no. My name is Derek Monti, occasionally known as your mayor of PHMX. The sons have lost multiple times in sad fashion in the playoffs. The Cardinals went 10 and 2 to start in 2021, and since then, they're not. and 30. ASU football fired a coach and an AD and they're six and 18. Oh, and the coyotes? Well, the coyotes, they moved to Utah. Yeah, that's right, that Utah. Not only did he lose games, he lost an entire
Starting point is 00:24:32 franchise for the Valley. Everything he's touched except for the Arizona Diamondbacks has been a complete failure. He's only helped the team he covers. Quite convenient, isn't it? Do you want a mayor that's only in it for himself or one that wants everyone to succeed? The choice is yours. Vote this November. Paid for by the ESPO for mayor coalition. I'm ESPO and I approve this message. Wow.
Starting point is 00:25:04 I haven't been here long enough for this, I don't think. You're going to do this in front of Archie? You monster. You're dead to me, Espo. You're dead to me. And wait until the attack ads. Damon? You aired that on our show?
Starting point is 00:25:19 How am I responsible for the sun's losing? What is happening here? They already come for my job every day in the chat. I can't believe you guys gave them that fuel. See, look at Carlos already is against me. You know what? That's fine. There'll be a retaliation for sure.
Starting point is 00:25:34 I'm a bad guy. I'm very mean. Don't forget that. But not on Mondays because, of course, you guys know, every year on this show is our year. I don't even know how to follow that up now. I'm just, I'm sure. Yeah, that's a tough one.
Starting point is 00:25:45 You might need to take a breather. for a second. That's rough. I might need to get pulled out of this one. But of course, still, every month on this show is Black History Month. Every month on this show is Women's History Month. And every month on this show is Black Women's History Month. Every week is Shark Week. Every day is Earth Day. And of course, on Mondays, we go to the mailbag. Damon, let's go. Yeah, I am, I am embarrassed. I am. It's tough look. It's a tough look. The whole office was here. The whole office was here. That was a, again, being new here, that was, I need some backstory for this later. I'll have to fill you in on all that.
Starting point is 00:26:32 But first, we got to go to the mailback. Damon, what do you got for us today? First question comes from our leadoff hitter, Travis Moore. And he says, my cousin and I were beyond stoked to see Ryan get the nod to stay in the starting rotation for now. In your opinion, what is the rotation for the postseason and what could change it in the last five weeks? I mean, honestly, right now, if everything stays the same, I don't see much. changing it but there's a lot of variables that could change it right like the diamond backs now have that depth i feel like where you anybody kind of has to pitch right now and if jordan
Starting point is 00:27:03 mcgomery is like you said shoving out of the pen like there's always going to feel like maybe there's that option at least as we round out the end of the season because these are these are very important wins as they get through september yeah and i think you know you have to give some cookie cutter answers from time to time like torrey was like you know hey we're only going to do the six man wants and then here we are. Yeah. I guess kind of. I guess Montgomery did get moving to the pen.
Starting point is 00:27:25 Right. But understanding when we were in these situations, I mean, the whole month it's going to be a game-to-game situation deal. I mean, so and I think what at least what I would like to see is, and I think we will is like try to manipulate some of these off days where you can get gallon another start, get merit, you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:27:43 Like get these guys an extra start in September to, you know, hopefully win some more games. Yeah. All right. Well. It's a bad look right there. thought the hat was going to look better. No, no, no.
Starting point is 00:27:53 But the hair was... Honestly, it's... It really doesn't matter because... We're going to go back forward today. The beard kind of covers up for any other... Yeah, which... Like, had issues that you got there? When I was on here last time, was I...
Starting point is 00:28:02 Had I already died the beard or is this fresh dye... No, no, no. I think you're revealing... They're revealing too much right now is I think what you're revealing. Well, I posted about it. It wasn't like I'm trying to keep it secret. It's not like... It looks...
Starting point is 00:28:13 It looks good. Didn't remember last time if I had already died the beard my first episode or died. I think you had. Okay. I think you had. but they'll definitely call you out on it if you didn't for sure. Okay. This chat is relentless.
Starting point is 00:28:24 They're monsters. I mean, I've seen a lot more things about you than me in here. Right. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. It's only going to get worse from this point on. He instigated them and now they're just going to call come for me. All right.
Starting point is 00:28:34 What else we got there, Damon? Next question comes from Garrett Lutz. And he says, pending everyone being healthy, who can we expect to see consistently in the lineup for this final push into the playoffs? I will say, obviously, I think that they're going to be missing Gabby. for a while i think that's the one part that's going to be missing we still don't know when they're going to get kattel back uh the word is it's christian walker is going to be back before kattel uh and i think obviously the way this team is playing right now kind of plays into this right yes it does you're you're not rushing kutel back when the team is able to sweep the red sox without
Starting point is 00:29:08 there's no need and it's it's it's the depth um and you talk about you know magical moments playoff defining moments team defining moments it's it's exactly what this team is built up to do right now kattel goes down oh no what are we going to do well gino's getting hot corbin's getting hot we're able to plug and play yeah and it's like we're not missing a beat here yeah so i mean i think i think you're going to see a mix i think that's the beautiful thing about it it's not as much mix and match you like it used to be but still you're going to see guys come off the bench and some huge abats that are going to change games yeah well and we saw tory do that in this series right we saw him put into a position where you know they brought in like a left-handed reliever and then that reliever has to stand for three you know three
Starting point is 00:29:50 three matters so then Tori is able to go to his bench and he can kind of manipulate things and he has a lot of options a lot of weapons and guys that can stay in there and play the position you know if he does sub them and it's not as crazy as a national use to you but still guys can play multiple positions especially in the outfield guys can kind of move around out there and you have some flexibility to make some things happen yeah well again that that depth has been key and of get of course I think the one thing is we probably won't see, we'll probably see them having a lot of different lineups as, you know,
Starting point is 00:30:20 as we get through this final. I mean, that's the game now. I mean, there's, I say a few teams, but there's very few consistent, just lineups like they used to be.
Starting point is 00:30:29 Like, hey, this guy's him four every single day. Like, no, we're going to, he may hit three this day. You know what I mean.
Starting point is 00:30:36 It's all, it's all about the matchup now. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Analytics. All right. Well,
Starting point is 00:30:40 we got some super chat. Jason says, how realistic is it to move ADC to third base, whether this year or off season to keep his bat in his lineup with Moreno, still love Gino, not hating on him. I don't think that's very likely. I don't know how much third base really AADC has played. I'd have to look into that little more. But minor league history. I will say that like the concern wasn't his bat coming up to the major leagues. The concern was him playing behind the plate. And I mean, Gabby is the catcher for this team of the future and the
Starting point is 00:31:11 now, but that doesn't mean ADC doesn't also have a role here. And, I mean, catcher is the role that you kind of like swap out. It's the old backup role. You know what I mean? I remember we were just talking about in the early nationally. We would carry three catchers a lot of years. Yeah. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:31:26 So it's if you can catch, if you can swing the stick especially, you're going to be on the team. Yeah. And then, you know, I agree with you. I think Gabby's the catcher for this team. But it's the one spot where if, and not saying he's going to be a backup's whole career, but it's a great role. Right. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:31:43 A great role for a player to work. learn, get a bats, and like you see, things happen and you get an opportunity. Well, and Toronto, where we got Gabby from via trade, right? I mean, they had two guys there that were solid that are the future of this team and are going to be there for a while. And that made him expendable, but, you know, luckily that ended up bringing the diamondbacks, their catcher of the future. AZ Catch G says keep Derek away from the Arizona Wildcats.
Starting point is 00:32:06 No problem there. We're working. We'll make sure. No worries there. They, they create their own mess over there. I mean, so I'm not saying that because I'm a. issue bias. I'm just saying U of A weren't they bankrupt this year almost
Starting point is 00:32:19 Like ASU's in more debt than you've There you go. You're going to get him immediately. He's going to come in here. Asu's in more debt than you of A. I love it. I just like starting the pot. I'm an Oklahoma guy over here. So I don't really. Although my boy, Spencer Royals at ASU is my boy. He was, he was, you know, he's been an Oklahoma guy before coached
Starting point is 00:32:36 Oklahoma State. He's those he at a U of A now or ASU. But some big 12 now. So I'm going to, you know, I'll pay attention a little more. Archie, we beat you guys in the Alamo ball. That man, again, that's Jackson Arnold, four picks. Again, look, Seth LaTrell was taken over as though, see. We needed to see what Jackson was made of if we needed to dip into the portal to go get somewhere else. I like Jackson.
Starting point is 00:32:59 I like Jackson a lot, too. Saul shows up out of nowhere because of you of A slander. I love it. No, he's been in here before. He called you out early. He said you sounded like a librarian earlier. I don't know if you saw that comment or not. He said you're nervous to be around me.
Starting point is 00:33:12 You still haven't liked. No, that's not at all. but it's fine. Saul doesn't watch this program except when you are on it. So that's fine. He doesn't understand how things go. We at least gained one new follower. There we go.
Starting point is 00:33:24 I appreciate that. We walked in. There's some goals where we want to gain subscriptions and stuff. And so hopefully Saul just signed up and we at least move the number. We appreciate you stopping by Saul. All right. Well, else we got,
Starting point is 00:33:33 Dam. Next question comes from Justin McDihermore. And he says, Archie, can you think of a hot streak you were on as a pitcher in your career that's comparable to Gino's as a hitter? And what does that feel like? yeah fortunately a couple times um i would probably say month of september 2019 i think i closed like 11
Starting point is 00:33:53 games in september yeah um i didn't give up like two earned runs and from it was yeah i mean um what what i love about most about it is there's there's a lot of times where you are the man where like you make plays happen and you do stuff on your own or you're like man i really am good but then also the amount of luck that happens in these streaks where like you're just like oh crap like i just had bases loaded no outs and just saved a game and like didn't give up a run like that should not have happened or um you know you go over two and your next bat you hit a grand slam for four rbis and like because now you hit around you get a second of bat and you hit another homer like just things happen when you're good and your team's good uh huh it just feels like you can't do wrong and
Starting point is 00:34:37 not that you don't ever uh that you ever shy away from the moment moment, but especially in those moments, you're like, please let me hit now. Like, let me, let me be the guy. Like, get me up there. Like, you just, you feel like, you know, you can carry a team. Yeah, you feel like that. That ball looks like a beach ball to you right now. Right. And again, you always, you're never as good as you think you are as bad, you know, but in those moments, your head gets pretty big. You try to, you're not in the like, cocky, like, yeah, cocky way, but yeah, man, you feel like you're the fucking man. Right. Right. I am hitting everything. I'm seeing the ball well. you're just kind of invincible even when you you wake up you sleep you eat well everything is just
Starting point is 00:35:16 just rolling man i will say this is that it feels like this team is like that right now like this team can't do anything wrong they have you know they go out and they acquire a guy to backup kettle and that guy is out here you know like a guy that was literally sitting at home not playing baseball immediately comes in and contributes we have his number we pass along to you guys I couldn't be on the playoff roster, so I'll wait for next year. They got a crowded house, but we'll see what we'll try next year. But yeah, no, I mean, right now it just feels like everything that they've done has just worked out tremendously well for them. And they can't, like you said, it's almost like they can't do anything wrong, but as a team.
Starting point is 00:35:56 Yeah, and I'm always going to be biased. I love the debacks, even when I, you know, even if I don't play for them ever again, I just, I love Mike Hayes in and these guys. I just think they are true baseball people where they take their analytic knowledge that, they should and they apply it but then they also have this savvy baseball background um i mean just a quick story i don't even know if it's relevant but i remember talking to mike hayson about like hey how'd you get your start whatever and there's a a newbie in there like getting salads for people are making these like that's what i did i got coffees i were delivered food like i was the rookie before there was rookies and um i just remember my time like with hazen i just
Starting point is 00:36:36 I think that this front office is truly one of the best in sports at identifying talent, at creating talent, and then acquiring pieces. I mean, you look at what's happened since the years I got traded. Those couple of years were really bad. But even last year, I know last year may have been a fluke run. But again, it was the building of the pieces, the building of Corbyn Carroll, you know, building these guys in the miners where you looked at their farm system a couple years ago and it was arguably the worst in baseball.
Starting point is 00:37:04 Oh, yeah. to where it's at now it's that's only that's a direct reflection of the talent up top the front office the scouts the analytic department identifying talent because again you look at it being away from baseball getting a long-winded but we're not a big money spending team we're a middle market team right right you have to hit on these draft picks that's how that's that's how they work and it's the development from the dimebacks the last five six years has been the best in baseball yeah at least some of the best in baseball well and I mean they don't do that
Starting point is 00:37:32 thing that like teams like Tampa Bay does where they They turn over their entire roster and kind of have a fire sale and like change everything, right? Or the Marlins, for instance, right? But I mean, they do a good job. And especially during that, like, I used to say Mike Hazen got like the treatment, like at a house party when someone broke mom's vase. Mike Hazen was the one that got handed, the broken base and was like, here, put this shit back together. Here's some super glue. Right.
Starting point is 00:37:55 And like, he did. He did a good job. There were still a little cracks in it and stuff. But you had to look close to see like. And he did a great job of bringing this organization from not having really like you guys were we're having some success on the field. But it was because it was like this scrappy group of guys that again, you know, we're exceeding expectations and doing things that like a lot of people didn't expect them to do. And you like another quick, we traded green key. Is that 19?
Starting point is 00:38:21 We traded green key and we got gallon back for jazz. Was that that that was 19? I think, yeah, yeah. Whatever. I just remember we're in the middle of a playoff race. and Hayzen asked to speak to us after the game, which is very uncommon to Mike. He's not a big, like he shows his face,
Starting point is 00:38:37 but he's not going to talk to us out of nowhere. But we got back and everyone's sitting there and the Mike came in and he apologized to us for trading Zach Grinky because we're in the middle of playoff race. He's like, guys, I'm sorry, I just traded your ace. And like, he's like, I think Gallin's going to be great. I still think in believing this team more than ever.
Starting point is 00:38:54 I think you guys are going to make the playoffs. I believe in you. I'm fucking sorry. But I have a job to do for this team. in the future that I have to look out and it means impacting this season now. But I just thought that was cool. You know, you hear a lot of weird stories about GMs and their role with the team, especially now they're a lot more part of the team and around in the clubhouse than they used to be.
Starting point is 00:39:15 But I've just always thought Mike has done stuff with such class and respect. And I think he's got an edge above some of these guys, man. I really do. I think he's got something up his sleeve and knows how to fucking get some shit done, unlike some of these other guys. Well, and like you saying, like him starting out as the guy that got coffee, the guy that, like, it just, I think it builds a different appreciation for you as a person. You know, and you respect, you know, people within the organization no matter what their role is.
Starting point is 00:39:42 I feel like, too, like Mike fits the, the reputation or the feeling of it, like kind of grinders, chips on our shoulders. We're a young team still. Like, again, we talk about it. I'm older than the debacks. Like, we're still growing. And I don't know. I just, I think this front office is. is incredible man.
Starting point is 00:39:59 I really do. All right. Well, else we got there, Dimm. Next question here comes from the basketball and football guy
Starting point is 00:40:05 and he says, do we even want to win the division since the first round by could hurt us in the NLDS? Yeah, man, I'll tell you. That's a question that keeps coming up.
Starting point is 00:40:13 Jesse finds it to be a preposterous like conversation because, of course, you want to win the division. Of course you want to avoid an extra chance to get bounced out of them. But there's something to be said
Starting point is 00:40:23 about not quitting, playing baseball and staying in that kind of group that you're in. I think this is the year to make that for the jury to come out on this. Let's see what the division winners do. Sure. In their first playoff round, if it's anything comparable to the last year, I think you have to look at it.
Starting point is 00:40:39 Because I said that last week when we talked. Yeah. Never in my baseball life, except for when I got released and DFA'd, have I ever set on the couch? I know you're not sitting on the couch, but have I not played a game within four days? Wow. Like even the All-Star break, maybe three. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:56 But I talked like last year, I really did. I thought the Braves were going to win the World Series. Sure. Everybody did. I mean, that was my last big league game, actually. They beat the shit out of me. We can run that clip. I'm sweating, give it up Homer.
Starting point is 00:41:09 I gave up like five hits in a row for 100 miles an hour. But Strider, Riley, all these guys, like, when you don't see 98 for five days, and when you're seeing a modified bullpen or a simulated game or striders throwing in a Kuhn's in the box, he's not going to go up in tight. he's not going to take a chance of hitting the CUNY. Right. Well, now in a game, you'll leave that pitch a little bit more over the plate. So I don't know.
Starting point is 00:41:33 I see both of it. Obviously, you want to win your division. That's the goal. But I do think there is some pros and some cons for both. Yeah. Yeah, you're right. And I mean, again, it seems crazy to think like, hey, you want to play more games after playing 162 games season.
Starting point is 00:41:47 You want to play a series that you might lose and get knocked out of the playoffs more than taking that division. But I think that. the Diamondbacks, I don't think they'll be any kind of letting up, right? Like they're going to go out, they're going to play hard. If they win the division, they're going to win the division. Yes. They don't.
Starting point is 00:42:05 They don't. Yeah. You're not going to. They're not going to like, they're not going to like. Strategically lose. Yeah. You play to win. You win the game.
Starting point is 00:42:12 Simple as that. And it's the way you stay locked in for the playoffs. Yeah. All right. Well, else we got Damon. Next question comes from Michael Rokicki. And he asks, what makes you most nervous about this Mets series? Frank the tank.
Starting point is 00:42:24 that's what makes me the most nervous. He's not coming here, is he? He's not coming to Chase Field again because keep that man as far away from Paul Seawald as you possibly can. Honestly, nothing makes me nervous about this series with the Mets. And again, that might be that cockiness that you're talking about.
Starting point is 00:42:41 But after they played the Boston Red Sox, the way they did, I mean, the only thing I can think about now is that they come home, they have this homestan, and it's against teams that are essentially in the playoffs against them, right? Or in the playoff race with them, right? Do we, I don't know how quickly, do we have any numbers, how the dimebacks are after off days? I do not have those right in front of me.
Starting point is 00:43:01 Maybe we can get that. It seems like they're not very good. I feel like that was always a challenge of my career, how you handle off days. I know that sounds weird, but you're talking about, like leaving the night before and getting into town early and stuff. Day game, win, sweep. So it's a fun ride home, but you're also being responsible. But you're going into an off day, so you want to have a little fun on the plane. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:43:19 And go to dinner that night. We probably got home a little bit later. but, you know, the only thing that scares me is just, I don't know what the percentage is, I'm sure it's high, but like winning the first game of a series. Like you gives you some leeway going into game two, still a chance to split, whatever. But I just like winning game one. When you stay hot, obviously it's like win the next game, but let's respond well after an off day and win game one. That's always for me, like, how do we prepare and bounce back after an off day, you know, with a hot team right now? Again, the confidence is there, but let's come out after an off day.
Starting point is 00:43:52 and win a game. There were times where Tori like almost went with kind of like what we considered like a little bit of a B lineup, you know, after they won like maybe the first two games of the series or something like that. But it's, it's amazing because if you look at it now, those reps that those guys got, a lot of those guys are now, they're calling upon due to injury. What I love about that, like from a little player inside, we call it like the B lineup or maybe the spring training like road squad. But like that's when like guys like, fuck, I'm going to show Tori. Yeah, like in a good way, but competitively, like when you're the traveling spot in spring. Yeah, like, and you're like, well, like, again, I might as well play well.
Starting point is 00:44:28 Yeah. You know what I mean? Yeah. I want to prove them wrong. Again, you just, I look at the celebrations in the dugout during home runs and doubles and you look at the shit they have rolling and it's just like, man, this team gets it. They, it's not like, oh, he's starting over me. Oh, I'm not hitting till the seven.
Starting point is 00:44:43 Like, guys are playing their role. And whenever they get called, whenever they're starting, like it just looks like a fun team to be a part. of yeah it really does all right what else we got damon next question comes from daniel caston and he asks elizabeth went to yesterday's game in boston and the debacks one does this mean archie broke the curse yeah see now that's what they're saying is like is elizabeth tried to break the curse the tendi gang uh we we we're big fans of chicken tendies around here especially for but of course uh but of course uh they tried to break the curse to no luck uh but apparently you calling out elizabeth on the show thus changed history i just think you know you
Starting point is 00:45:20 you have to be careful with what you say everywhere, but a little honesty here and there. It doesn't hurt anyone. You were honest about the streaming services that are available to watch the games. I stay home at. But also, you know, Elizabeth,
Starting point is 00:45:30 you had to look at it. You make some decisions here and there. You take a gamble. I mean, ultimately you got to get back in the saddle at some point. Exactly. Right. Right.
Starting point is 00:45:38 You have some bad outings, but you got to get out there. You did your due diligence. You picked it right. And the streak is over. And you know what? I will take credit forward. So,
Starting point is 00:45:45 congrats, Elizabeth. You're welcome back to games. Sorry, Nicholas, no Tendi gang, acknowledgement here. This is all Archie's doing.
Starting point is 00:45:51 And that's a fact. All right, what else we got? And is Tendi Gang? Is that like actual gang affiliation? I mean, we're gang affiliated in the way that we represent chicken tendies. Do I need to be like chewed in somewhere? Yeah, I mean, we'll take you. I think the FBI has it registered.
Starting point is 00:46:05 It's fine. I was thinking Tendi game and it makes me think remember, I think you remember San Fran early on Randall Delgado like the 12th inning. One of the birds dropped a chicken strip on the mouth. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. That's just made me think of that. Those birds are aggressive, by the way.
Starting point is 00:46:22 And they know timing. It's like seventh inning and they are there. That's awesome. Garlic fries and weed. That's all you smell. Sounds like that. I'd like a candle centered like that. That sounds like good times.
Starting point is 00:46:35 All right. Carly fries and weed brought to you by homesets. All right. What else we got, damn? Next question comes from piece of Yoshi and he asks, will any of the baseball social media accounts other than Brooks gate, including the 29 other baseball teams,
Starting point is 00:46:48 ever use our proper teal logo or are we doomed to the shackles of the beige logo until the end of time this is a great point yoshi and it bothers me to know yeah i i had i had to demand that we switch the colors on our uh on our on our on our power rankings the other day because i believe they went with the red and sand and i was like that's not a thing anymore no you can't do that no i mean the teal pops so well like it's like come on respect yeah of course i mean i'm always biased in a fashion guy but the teal i think is hot like i i've always said like i think even with all this i don't know where we're at but i think the the vest should come back the pinstripes of course one of my favorite jerseys that we only wore once bring the purple back the purple jerseys and with
Starting point is 00:47:34 the teal mixed in yeah and then again down the road mixing i wanted to always wear the road vest the road gray pinstries we never wore those but yeah that was so hot i mean as much as i remember the homes i remember the grays with the black sleeves and matt williams and randy and like i wish we always wore the road road grays at yeah i mean it's one of the teal yeah the teal is it's in it's where it's at and we see the uh tampa bay went back and they were wearing their retro jerseys and i immediately was like i'm so jealous right i want to i want to do a like mb did a well back they did the like uh turn the clock forward or whatever yes i want to do a turn the clock back but where they wear the same jerseys like they
Starting point is 00:48:15 did the sleeveless jersey. Oh, yeah, yeah. With that snake wrap you out of it? Yes. That's incredible. All right. What else we got, Damon? Let's get through.
Starting point is 00:48:25 We got a couple more here. Yeah, come on. We got Bozozozozozozo. Bozozozo, so. Say with Walker and Marte coming back, what's the roster moves? Pavin is gone. Surely does Giorme get DIA'd. Roster expands soon as well.
Starting point is 00:48:38 So hate to dump Bell. Yeah, so the rosters expand in September, right? Is it two now? Is it's 28? I think it's the two, yeah. Right? It's not 30 anymore, right? It's a 28 or is it to 30?
Starting point is 00:48:49 I'm not sure. This is why we have Jesse on this show for sure. This is also why I normally know, but not being in baseball this year. I don't know. Do you think they'll wait until obviously because we're fairly close, right? You know, we're almost to September. Like they're obviously going to wait until that time. But I mean, they do have kind of a roster problem because they have guys that have been playing well that deserve to stay here.
Starting point is 00:49:10 But when Marte comes back, when Christian Walker comes back, like, how often are they going to call a pound? upon Josh Bell and Louis Guillaume. It's tough. Again, it's, it's tough, and who knows if the debacks ever thought they're going to have these problems, and this is the personal side. That's, again, that's just, that's part of managing. That's part of putting together a team is you pick guys up, knowing specifically once Marte's back or Diffang him.
Starting point is 00:49:33 And that sucks personally for the guy, but that's, we're trying to go win. And again, no offense to whoever it is, whoever, but you're not going to pick them over a Marte or them over Christian Walker. Of course. You know, that's just not, not realistic. So,
Starting point is 00:49:47 but they have been playing well. So it's like, for instance, like a guy like Gormay who was sitting at home, I can imagine that there's, if the Diamondbacks do DFAM, that there's going to be a lot of teams interested in them now
Starting point is 00:49:56 that maybe work before. No, for sure. That's, that's also the beauty of our sport and like the coolness of it. Like sitting at home a good month stretch and boom, you're back in the big leagues. You're a commodity again,
Starting point is 00:50:07 you know what I mean? And what hope, I say what hopefully happens, probably not. But you hope that something, these guys may be clear waivers you're able to send him the reno for a couple weeks sure just have that depth in case something happens and like every there's going to be the taxi squad for the playoffs and um because it is it does think some these guys have played such pivotal roles and played such big moments and
Starting point is 00:50:27 winning some of these games it it sucks to see him go yeah it really does and then you you like Josh bell for instance he's had so many big moments in such a short amount of time with it like i mean his post game interviews are incredible like he just seems like a great teammate like it's it's you know you you come to love these guys as a fan and then like yeah now we have to figure it out and it's it's tough when yeah maybe we should invent like i say invent but add like a last week trade deadline for the playoffs yeah like some crazy like you're talking about like making things exciting again like imagine like you get like three trades if you're a playoff like teams that make the playoffs can trade with non-playoff teams but like wouldn't that be crazy that would be insane because especially
Starting point is 00:51:09 this year there were so many teams that were still in it at the trade deadline it's like yeah it's vastly different now for a couple of friends. Like, say September, like there's a everyone deadline where all teams can get better. And then there's a September 15th postseason trade deadline. And any team that has a chance to make it can trade with non-competitive teams. I would be willing to make trades to make sure that the Dodgers don't ever win any playoff series. I think teams will get on board with that. I think there would be collusion among teams, which I think would be great.
Starting point is 00:51:36 I'm mad enough to admit that. I love it. Yeah. We need more collusion in sports, to be honest. That's what I'm thinking. Or like at least something where, and I get it, again, not trying to get long-winded, but like where you can pick up a guy past. I know, sorry, that's sorry, guys. I know, rude.
Starting point is 00:51:57 It's fine. But where a guy can be eligible for the playoffs past the deadline, like the trade deadline. There needs to be. I know there is if a guy gets DFA and you pick him up, but you should be able to trade for a guy and be like, dude, this guy should be able to play in the playoffs still. Yeah. I like it. I like the chaos that causes. Let's see.
Starting point is 00:52:13 We got a super chat there. A nice comment for Archie. Patrick Winkleck says, Archie is that dog. Your triple is legendary. Thanks for the memories. I appreciate that. Yes, sir.
Starting point is 00:52:23 All right. What else we got, Damon? We got a few more? Yeah, two more questions. Brighton Bobbett asks, who has the best walk-up song on the team? Okay,
Starting point is 00:52:31 we're going to argue about this because I know Damon and I are immediately going to argue about this. Okay, here, I'm conflicted because obviously Jake McCarthy has the best walk-up song. It's Kurt Angles theme song. and it's a pro wrestling theme song. So there's no way I'm going to say anybody else on the team other than that. However, Jake McCarthy did pick the one wrestler theme song that involves crowd interaction.
Starting point is 00:52:52 And that crowd interaction is people chanting, you suck at him during parts of the song. So I still don't know if that was the wisest move. But I'm going to go with Kurt Angle. It's Kevin Newman. And everybody that's ever been to a debacks game knows it's Laylo with Kevin Newman when he goes up to the plate. And then the whole stadium just gets electric. and it's unbelievable. The song Laylo is amazing.
Starting point is 00:53:13 It's tough. It's pretty. The problem is, is I need to go to a few more D-backs games to see in person, but you can change them so often now. Yeah. And I don't know if the D-backs do it, but a lot of stadiums do it now
Starting point is 00:53:26 where they actually show what the song is and stuff. But if your walkout song doesn't move the needle a little bit, it's tough. Yeah. I mean, I can be in a pen or like when I'm playing, you know, I can be in the bullpen. Like not paying attention to the game at all and boom I hear walk up. I'm like oh so and so's up Yeah you know what I mean like in me like especially visiting like you judge guys on their walkup song right right right
Starting point is 00:53:49 right when you go play against other teams yeah like especially Dodgers stadium like as much as we're on shit talk on Dodgers they have the best sound system in sports like it's incredible so loud jesse complains about it every single time he goes there you walk out and we'd like fuck Justin Turner this is your walkout like what like while he's raking and just crud us but like yeah you know your walkout song it is very defining of who you are as a person anybody's on the team get you pumped up like when you were on in the bullpen anybody on the diamond backs have one that like was electric so I feel like relievers get yeah I mean there was uh I mean for different reasons like uh Fernando Rodney's when we had La Fletcha oh yeah his his
Starting point is 00:54:33 would get us going yeah um everything about him was just electric electric electric I felt like Marte always have one. Peralta was always a character. Miggies back in the day? Yeah, he's back in the day. The best were always like the fun, I say the fun, but like to make fun of like the square
Starting point is 00:54:53 nerdy guys like Goldie and Pollack and CO like, man, this is what you're choosing. Some slow country song or something. You know, like Goldie, you're the best player in the world right now. And like, you know. I need more out of you.
Starting point is 00:55:08 I need excitement out of you. need him more of a gouldy always always i love goldie all right what do we got for the last question there damon last question comes from casual fellow 777 and he says can a manager put himself on a 40 man roster after watching those videos of torrey at bp the other day i might like to see him pinch hit sometime yeah that was how he decided yeah no football raky or the the uh order which they were to draft um tory probably should have taken some swings beforehand yeah You know, just out of fairness to the squad. Right.
Starting point is 00:55:43 At least maybe a couple. Go down to the cage to get some hacks in first before you come out. You know, Boston. You spend some time there. Oh, yeah. He found a place to. But that's, again, it doesn't matter winning or losing. These are things during the season that are always going to take place.
Starting point is 00:55:58 The fantasy football drafts and there are things that people want to, oh, are they distracting. You know, you're not winning or you're winning, blah, blah. But it happens every year whether you're on the worst team in baseball or the best team in baseball. There's fantasy drafts. And it's such a fun time and fun part to be on because there's, again, a mix of guys making tons of money, guys making league minimum. Some of the older guys will grab a young guy. You team up.
Starting point is 00:56:20 I saw the question earlier to kind of get into it. Fantasy is awesome. And you want to talk about some shit talk. And at least a few years I was with the debacks, man, we either rented out ballrooms or we rented out restaurants and bartenders and, you know, full nine. And we had people that would call the draft and call the picks. And you talk about a bonding moment and something that brings a team together. And again, you can watch other teams with the way they interact with their manager and their coaches.
Starting point is 00:56:49 And it's like, okay, you know, and then you see stuff like this. It's like, okay, again, this is Tori gets it. It's different. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. I mean, and everybody does, right? Like, the players love Tori. And it's so authentic too, right?
Starting point is 00:57:02 Yes. This is just who Tori is. And Tori does. Tori is himself. He, you know, that's why. it's so funny whenever you talk to tory like almost in a joking fashion about him putting up like christmas lights and he gets super fucking serious about it and he's like oh no this year i've got a plan you're like dude i was just i was just joking with you i didn't know you were going to take this so
Starting point is 00:57:21 seriously but yeah no i mean this is uh he's a fun he's a fun manager he's a fun guy to cover and of course you can see it you can see how much the players love to be around him uh well of course uh we will talk here about the upcoming series with the new york met but first we do have to let you know about Mint Mobile I mean maybe that was whether or not he has Mitt Mobile that service would have been the same on that on that text message you got because Mint Mobile is just here to rescue you with premium wireless service and everything stays the same your phone number stays the same your phone stays the same all the only thing that changes is your bill and how much you're paying for
Starting point is 00:57:55 your service all plans all plans come with high-speed data and unlimited talk and text delivered on the nation's largest 5G network can ditch your overpriced wireless with Mint Mobile's limited time deal and get three months of premium wireless service for just 15 bucks a month. And that means that you're probably paying less for three months than you pay for one month from MintMobile. To get this new customer offer and your new three-month unlimited wireless plan for just 15 bucks a month, go to mintmobile.com slash Diamondbacks. That's mintmobile.com slash diamondbacks.

New customers on first three-month plan only. Speed slower about 40 gigabytes on unlimited plan. Additional taxes fees and restrictions apply. Sey Mint Mobile for details. I'm just now realizing that Espo really wasn't talking to me much today, and it's all, it's all making sense now with that attack ad and stuff.
Starting point is 00:58:46 So just like thought I'd point that out. You're not mad, though. I'm not mad. Don't tell the news I was mad. But I will say another thing that makes me not mad is I'm going to go to baseball games. I'm just going to not include Espo. That'll make me feel better. But we'll save a lot of money on going to those games because we'll buy our tickets through
Starting point is 00:59:03 game time. Right now you can get your tickets through game time and save. up to 60% off by buying tickets last minute for sporting events, concerts, and so much more. Flash deals will save you even more money where you can get exclusive in-app deals on select seats ahead of the game or event. Starting point is 00:59:32 So make sure it's a steel. 50% off for, of course, one of the biggest games. And you know you have the day off. And if you don't have the day off, call out. I mean, there's... It's from a former player, buy the tickets. Right. Go support, because if not, the Dodger fans are going to,
Starting point is 00:59:45 and it's my least favorite thing in the world. So please take advantage of this and go buy the tickets. You heard it from him. You heard it from him, an actual player telling you how much it bothers him that those Dodgers fans are there. So do your part. Make sure you do that. And of course, take the guesswork out of buying tickets with game time.
Starting point is 00:59:59 Download the app right now, create an account and use code PHNX for $20. $20 off your first purchase. Terms apply. Again, create an account, redeem code. PHNX for $20 off. Download game time today. Last minute tickets, lowest price guaranteed. All right. Before we get out of here, let's take a look at the New York Mets at a glance. This team, of course, has been very good this year. I mean, they've kept right there like there's some division in the wild card race. And of course, the one team that's kind of making it unpleasant for the three teams in the wild card is the New York Mets.
Starting point is 01:00:28 They currently have a record of 68 and 63 plus 30 run differential. They are six and four in their last 10. Pitching kind of middle of the pack there. They're starting pitching ERA is 4.19, which is tied for 18th. Relief pitching ERA 4.03, which is 16th. But they have been very good, especially at Chase Field. They're team OPS 740, which is tied for ninth. And then they're out above average there is one, which is 16th. But this team, again, there are certain players that seem to love to hit at Chase Field.
Starting point is 01:00:56 Yeah, well, I mean, who doesn't? I'm going to be honest. Yeah, everyone, it's just a great place to hit. But yeah, the Mets, I mean, not as good as the Diamondbacks, but similar path this season. Right. Really bad in the beginning. Right.
Starting point is 01:01:07 Another continuation of all this money, which sucks because I want these owners to put money into baseball like Stevie has. And when you don't have success, it really is off. It makes you gunshot. It does. Especially like this year, like with Ken Kendrick, right? It's the same situation where they surprise a lot of people with how much money they spent. And then you see things like the Jordan Montgomery deal go the way it does. And then, yeah, you do fear how it's going to impact the future.
Starting point is 01:01:29 I'm happy the Mets are playing well. Again, same thing. They've picked up a few guys. They made a few trades. Yeah. And same thing. They had some back-in bullpen issues that they've resolved. I say they've resolved.
Starting point is 01:01:40 They're figured out a little bit better. But yeah, I think every team, regardless of how good the Diamondbacks are, there's excitement for them coming to play in Chase Field, at least offensively, because it's a great place to hit. Yeah. A lot of triples hit. Like I said, I think the key is game one, man. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:01:58 When tomorrow, you just came off a great road trip off day, win the first one, and then you have from leeway. You know, it's not that you ever want to lose, but win game one and then, okay, we can go. You know what I mean? Yeah. Well, and it's getting to the point where when we, we're going to take a look at the probable pictures here.
Starting point is 01:02:12 Let's take a look at what the Diamondbacks have. And, of course, the Mets still have a TBD in there. But you look at now this portion of the starting rotation. It's Edward Rodriguez, Edward Rodriguez, Brandon Fott and Ryan Nelson, right? And all of a sudden, these guys don't look like the back end of the, you know, starting rotation anymore. You look at this and you're pretty happy.
Starting point is 01:02:33 what you have going in this three game series against the Mets. I mean, all guys under a four three, which is incredible. Right. And Ryan Nelson isn't even really close to what he is right now. Exactly. You take the last few, his last five for say last 10, which is again, that's what matters. Like this whole season matters, but who are you the last couple weeks? That's who you are right now.
Starting point is 01:02:55 With that being said, though, I mean, Manai and Severino have been really, really good recently. Yeah. Been really good. Sean and I is just an incredible pitcher that I don't feel like. he gets the credit he deserves right like he you always find him at the back end of a rotation or you find him like needing a job and you're like why look at the numbers he puts up yeah and then old tbd got about him right yeah that's you know i don't like the tbd i don't it's one of the things i think is still so weird that you can like not i guess you don't know until game time sure decisions we made
Starting point is 01:03:25 don't have to announce i just always you know it's like what are you doing over there like i know there's so many things but it's also like you're you about do a bullpen day which whatever you play you go win but I've always been like is it gamesmanship is it a little bit of like you know trying to keep you yeah man like especially now with some of the rules and um but I'm just like do you no one cares just put the line up out there
Starting point is 01:03:45 like come on we're gonna game plan for all the potential options anyway so it's not like you're gonna catch us the day before the day of like these guys are so good at getting us info it doesn't five minutes for the game it doesn't matter we sell everything we need everything is on the iPads boom it's there yeah right how much preparation did you need at times did you feel like you needed a lot I mean especially
Starting point is 01:04:02 That was probably what I'd go back to, like, when someone asked how I felt like when Gino was in that mode is like, you still prepare, but you also just know I'm better than you right now. Like you just have this sense of like, yeah, I know I shouldn't throw fastball up, but I'm going to throw fastball up right here. You know, like a little of cockiness. Like I'm going to do some things I'm maybe we wouldn't do if I was not playing as good, but I've got it right now. Yeah, I'm going to run out. You're like good luck catching this. Yeah. I love it.
Starting point is 01:04:26 All right. Well, we thank you guys, of course, so much for your questions. We thank you guys so much for stopping by.
