We also have your updates for the N-Hell West and how things just continue to stay hot for this division. And we also have a huge, huge announcement to make at the end of this show. I cannot wait to make that.
Starting point is 00:01:48 It's about forever change everything forever. But welcome in to you guys, of course, the Diamondbacks won last night. It's awkward to do these shows now in the afternoon right before another game, right after another game. We haven't had any updates yet. Hopefully we'll get some updates today from Tori Lobolo on AJ Puck. Not sure if those second and third opinions have happened yet in regards to his left elbow inflammation. but again, we would love to hear something positive in regards to that.
Starting point is 00:02:15 Just because he has left elbow inflammation doesn't always mean that it's going to go down the path of Tommy John surgery. However, that's looking at it maybe a little too optimistically. Chances are those second and third opinions aren't for a positive reason, you know. But great to see you guys here. So many of you guys, my guy Jackson Doran here. Now it's a party. Love Jackson. Great to see you here, buddy.
Starting point is 00:02:38 Diamondbacks are now four and four. and season openers this season, series openers this season, excuse me. They recorded their first win against the Tampa Bay raise last night since, get this, June 27, 2023. Baseball is so fun like that. And this is all courtesy of the Diamondbacks themselves. The Diamondbacks now have won seven of their last nine games and three straight at home. Meanwhile, their offense stays very hot this season.
Starting point is 00:03:06 The Diamondbacks offense has scored four or more runs in eight of the their last nine games. They've recorded two or more extra base hits in nine consecutive games, and they've recorded two or more homers in six of their last seven games. Nine of backs offensively have been doing a tremendous job. Obviously, a big part of that has been the Ginger Avenger. That's what we've landed on. We've decided the Ginger Avenger is the nickname for one Pavin-Smith. There's a lot of comparisons going around on Twitter. Some of them are to Juan Soto. Some of them are to show Hey, Otani. But you know what? They all prove. They all proved that Paveen Smith might be the best hitter in Major League Baseball right now.
Starting point is 00:03:45 He had his fourth homer last night. It was a two-run blast in the third inning. Third Homer of over 400 feet for Pavan, and he has hits now in 11 of his last 15 games. He's 18 for 42 in that stretch for a 429 batting average with a 520 on-base percentage. Pavement Smith is red hot. The Diamondbacks offense, they have scored 12 runs in the. the eighth inning over their last four games. And that eighth inning, of course, is crazy because when you start looking even deeper than that, they've scored a ton of runs late in the game.
Starting point is 00:04:19 And that's always a good thing for a team to believe in themselves, no matter what the deficit is. They can see in their past that they've had the opportunity to score late, and they know that they are capable of doing so. So the confidence is there. Meanwhile, on the other side of things, Diamondback's pitching has been tremendous. Brandon fought last night was great. Diamondback's starters now have tossed eight quality starts in their last 12 or yeah eight quality starts in their last 12 starts. So eight of their last 12 starts have been quality starts. And the Brandon fought again, he earned his fourth win in a row for the first time in his career with a quality start. He allowed that one run on four hits with no walks and five strikeouts over six innings. He has now tossed
Starting point is 00:05:01 six innings in four of his five starts this season and has allowed one run or fewer in his last three starts, including one of those where he got pulled at five and two-thirds innings, and I don't know if I'll ever forgive Tori LeBolo for doing that. But that's how good Brandon Fought has been for this team. Brandon Fott is putting up the consistency that we once saw out of Zach Gowan, who this year has not been that. But Brandon Fought, as our guy, Stephen Bananas said in the chat yesterday, he is our ace.
Starting point is 00:05:30 And right now, I don't know if the numbers, I don't know if the numbers would argue with that, with how well Brandon fought has been doing this year. One thing to keep in mind overall is that I saw people suggest that Zach Gowlin get moved down in the starting rotation. And like that doesn't matter now. None of that matters now that we're past the first week of baseball. Like moving him down in the rotation really doesn't much. It doesn't do much.
Starting point is 00:05:56 It's not like where Zach is in the rotation is necessarily going to guarantee that he matches up with the, you know, ace of the staff on the other. squad, but also Zach Allen is still very much capable of getting things back on track. But yeah, right now in 29 and two-thirds innings pitched, Brandon Fott has a 2.73 ERA this season. And I mean, again, he's just been awesome. So has a lot of this pitching staff. I mean, Corbyn Burns, he seems to be settling in nicely. And there's a lot of good things happening for this starting pitching staff. I spoke briefly about it yesterday, but Randy Johnson was out at Chase Field. They have a new exhibit featuring his photography, which is incredible and does not feature any baseball. You're not going to get him taking pictures of baseball. I'm just telling you that
Starting point is 00:06:45 right now. Do not expect Randy Johnson. He travels the world. He takes pictures of exotic animals. He is done taking pictures of baseball, though he still loves it. And one thing he said yesterday while talking about his exhibit was that he feels like this Diamondbacks rotation is the best, possibly the best, in franchise history. Here's what RJ had to say. You know, it's easy to hop on the bandwagon for the Dodgers and, you know, the big payrolls, but, you know, they don't always make it. So I think you go with the who's got the deepest team. And obviously they do. But, you know, I think it's important to understand that the Diamondbacks have, you know, a deep team. And they have a lot of talent here. And I played 26 years.
Starting point is 00:07:34 a professional baseball and and I see I see things when I'm sitting in my seat watching the game that most people may not see because they're not baseball people you know I see how hard that person works to strive to get out of that inning and I've gone up to some of those players and seen and told them that they've made a big impact and they've come a long way because I've been working here for seven years and I've come to a lot of games I don't come every day that doesn't mean I'm not watching my recliner, you know. And I've seen the growth of a lot of young pitchers here. And I think this is a great, probably the best pitching rotation that they've had in the history of the Diamondbacks from top to bottom.
Starting point is 00:08:20 In the history of the Diamondbacks. So Tanner's in here, you're going to argue with Randy Johnson, Tanner? I don't know. Maybe O'1 was better. At least those two guys at the top were incredibly good. but Brandon Fott making a case to be a really good pitcher right now in baseball and proving that he's elite. I'll tell you, man, the one thing about Brandon Fought, and I know it probably was a dumb question. It seems so simple.
Starting point is 00:08:45 But, you know, again, you look back at Brandon Fott's history and outside of that one big inning that he tends to give up or allow or where things just kind of fall apart, he's been excellent. And he's been incredibly consistent. So, yeah, it's just great to see Randy Johnson giving that praise. Also, I love to think of Randy Johnson being on his recliner at home and doing the Leonardo DiCaprio meme where something happens in the game and he's just like pointing at the camera or pointing at the TV. Diamondbacks hitters again offensively have been good. Tim Tawa hit his third run, her third home run of the season.
Starting point is 00:09:18 It was his first at Chase Field. That was in the fifth inning. And now Tawa has homered in three straight series. So even though his numbers still aren't great, Tawa has been doing a good job there. You could argue better than Garrett Hampson. Offensively, obviously, he's been doing a better job. defensively. This team has been good. It's the third occurrence of them turning two or more double
Starting point is 00:09:37 plays in a game this season. So it feels like defensively they're getting back on track. Someone else talked about it there in the pitching, but they were brought up, you know, how Brian Kaplan, the new pitching coach, seems to be connecting with the team. And I think that that's a big part of it. Obviously, it's much like I've been saying also about, you know, the Diamondbacks, whenever any new coach on the team, it's going to take a little time because those transactions happen quickly during the off season.
Starting point is 00:10:03 Plus, you didn't really have guys getting to meet those coaches necessarily right when the hiring happens. Some of them didn't meet them until they come into camp at Salt River Fields there in the middle of February. And I mean, in some cases, in regards to, you know, the new coaches, these players might only have about, you know, two months of knowing them,
Starting point is 00:10:24 maybe three months at this point. But yeah, it's very, very interesting. Daft House with a great point, he was talking about how last night we were talking about the expansion draft series, the 1998 expansion draft series between the Diamondbacks and the Rays and how close their numbers are. And Daft House, did I say draft house? Am I already thinking of beers.
Starting point is 00:10:45 Daft House says last night you were comparing raise and deback stats since 98 and comparing batting average, et cetera. But the raise never had to have pitchers hit. Excellent point. Excellent point. That's a great, great point. But Diamondbacks, again, did their thing last night. We could take a look here at our numbers from last night,
Starting point is 00:11:03 thanks to our friends at Desert Financial. Diamondbacks outscore the raise 5 to 1. They out hit the raise 7 to 6. Runners in scoring position, Diamondbacks were 2 for 5 to the raise 1 for 6. Extra base hits. Diamondbacks had 4 to the raise 2. And then expected batting average there. 2.95 for the Diamondbacks to 310.
Starting point is 00:11:21 Again, expected batting average. one of the most infuriating and dumbest stats that exists in baseball. I will try my best to talk about expected stats, but I just want to put my feelings out there about it. Tori Lavallo, in fact, talked yesterday in the pregame about how there's kind of a a little bit of a disagreement in his office between coaches in regards to the importance of expected stats versus actual stats, right? Again, Brandon Fott was excellent in that last night.
Starting point is 00:11:51 the double that he gave up that allowed the one run that he allowed to score had a 6% chance of landing for a hit as far as expected batting average was concerned. But what does it matter? Because it actually landed for a hit. It did the thing. But yeah, Diamondbacks right now are in a good position. Obviously, we have the two more games here with the Rays at home. We can take a look here at the probable pitchers for the rest of the series.
Starting point is 00:12:17 And again, I really think that the Diamondbacks set up well. in every series, especially when you kind of look at the way things can, can kind of rotate around, right? If, if, and this is crazy to say, but if Zach Gallin can get himself back on track consistently,
Starting point is 00:12:35 then, you know, you look at like this series and you have branded Fott, who's been great for this team. You also have Corbyn Burns going in game three, right? So you have to feel very good about this, you know,
Starting point is 00:12:45 this series and winning the series. And then EROD has been, again, you kind of know what you're going to, to get out of Erod, right? Lately he's been going deeper in the games, and that's pretty much what we need to see from the Diamondbacks. We need to see these pitchers be able to go deeper in games. The bullpen has absolutely been taxed this season, and the guys that are, you know, are the good arms in the bullpen can't be turned to as often as they are. We're seeing this injury with Justin
Starting point is 00:13:14 Martinez, obviously with AJ Puck. It's not to say usage necessarily impacted either of these injuries. There's not much you can do as a manager to avoid players getting injured. It's just the fact that when we as fans get really angry that we don't see, you know, the guys that are shoving in there more often like Shelby Miller right now, perhaps a Jalen Beaks, maybe Justin Martinez, it isn't because Tori Lavello doesn't want to play them every day if this was, you know, the MLB, the show, which even in that game, you know, you can't use your relievers every day due to fatigue. right, the little meter that you go in and check on the bullpen and see how much energy they have.
Starting point is 00:13:53 That's the same thing in real life. That's why they put that in the video game. So the Devonbacks really have to do a better job of utilizing their bullpen and trying to at least not end up in that situation they did the other day in that loss to the Cubs. But obviously the new arms to the bullpen are working out so far so good.
Starting point is 00:14:13 And boy, when people are going to love Juan Murillo, the more that he gets, scene, the more that gets out there about him. People are going to love him. He's going to be a fan favorite. Corbyn Carroll extended his home hitting streak, if you want to talk about him, still having a hitting streak. He extended his hitting streak to nine games. He's now batting 412 over that stretch at home with 1.2-2 OPS, five doubles, two home runs, five RBI, four walks, and a stolen base.
Starting point is 00:14:42 And he also has five multi-hit games over that course. Corbyn Carroll continues to be good. Several guys, like the balance, I guess you could say the imbalance on this team right now is pretty incredible. You have three guys hitting over 320 right now in the Diamondbacks lineup. And then you also have several guys hitting 200 or lower than that. That's the imbalance. Again, I don't know if we have to sacrifice Paymond Smith hitting 397 in order to get Gabriel Moreno up. or lower order score, Riel Jr. up, or especially Gino up. But, you know, right now,
Starting point is 00:15:21 Corbyn Carroll has a 323 batting average, Pavin, 397, Josh Naylor, 341. So those are the guys that are getting the job done right now for this team. And I mean, so far with the Diamondbacks optioning guys like Jake McCarthy, Joe Mantiply, Rice Jarvis down to Reno, it really shows that this team is not waiting too long. Maybe in the case of the bullpen, they waited a little too long, but they're not waiting too long to make some of these changes. They can't. This NL. West that we're going to talk about here in a bit is entirely too competitive, and they have to do everything they can to constantly keep up with these other teams in the division. So right now, those guys are doing a great job. Corby and Carroll is incredible. It's hard to imagine. Tanner says
Starting point is 00:16:06 are Pavin's numbers inflated from platooning a little bit? I mean, Pavin is in there in situations that Definitely, let me pull up his splits here really fast, but Pavin Smith has definitely been used sparingly. And yeah, I mean, that definitely helps his numbers look better so far this season. However, I don't know if it's really that drastic. Oh, yeah, no, it absolutely is drastic. Paven has only had three at-bats against left-handed pitching. So they're pretty much protecting him entirely from left-handed pitching. Against righties, Paveen this season is slashing 411, 508 with a 780.
Starting point is 00:16:42 with a 786 slug and a 1.293 OPS. So yeah, no, I mean, that's, but it is part of the roster construction, right? The way that the Diamondbacks have the ability to have multiple guys, DH, multiple guys play first base, multiple guys play the outfield. It allows them to lean into these splits and do their best to put the roster together that's going to have the most success against the starting pitcher. Plus, it allows guys to be in the hole as pinch hitters later in the game. And I mean, honestly, it's the way that this team was constructed for the last two seasons.
Starting point is 00:17:16 We talked last night about Jock Peterson going 0 for 40 in his last 40 at bats. I was actually wrong for that. He's actually 0 for 41 in his last 41 at bat. So a big part of that is the reason that Jock Peterson was used in a similar way last year that really just leaned into his strengths, right? And he also just had an uncommonly good season for the Diamondbacks last year, all things considered, right? A lot of it, though, is the usage of these guys and the fact that they do try to avoid
Starting point is 00:17:46 them hitting against lefties, for instance, with Pavin Smith. And, yeah, Pave and Smith has had three plate appearances against left-handers, and he is 0 for three in those plate appearances. So you're dead on with that, Tanner. But also, again, it's the way that this roster has been proved put together so far this season. And, yeah, I mean, it's the Paveen at least is. having success at a level that I don't think any of us could have expected for sure.
Starting point is 00:18:14 But again, we got more to talk about, including this insane and Hell West. Before we go, though, I do have to talk about a very, very, very special announcement that we have, not the big one that I was announcing, but this one's already out there in the universe. We got some big news and little news to share. All City and us here at PHNX are teaming up with big brothers and big sisters of America for an exciting three-year partnership. And when we talk about what our mantra is here at AllCity, when we talk about what we do,
Starting point is 00:18:47 the most important thing has always been community. It's always been about being a part of the community. It's always been about having people here at PHNX and at AllCity that represent the community. And it's something very close for me. I haven't had a chance to ever be a big, but I have had a chance to work with mentorship programs, with other wonderful entities.
Starting point is 00:19:11 And I'll tell you, it's one of the most fulfilling things that you can do in your life. The impact that you can have on a young person's life is immeasurable. So this is something that's very special to us, and we are excited to support youth mentorship and really make a difference. You can learn more and see how to get involved at bbbs.org slash all city. Go do so now. Again, very proud about that, very excited for that partnership to be going on. And on the other side of this break, we are going to talk about the NL West and why things just continue to be miserable because of how the good these other teams are.

Starting point is 00:22:01 Well, Noah, I know you're new around here, at least to the Diamondman. back show, not to PHMX. You've been here for a while doing great work, but we have changed the name of the NL West to the N Hell West, and you made an appropriate graphic for that. Let's take a look at how bad things have gotten in this terrible, terrible division that we live in, known as the N. Hell West. That's great work. Padres, six and four in their last 10. Dodgers, six and four in their last 10. Giant six and four in their last 10. Wait, this is incorrect, because the debacks are seven and three in their last 10 and the Rockies are 1 and 9. The Rockies will never have a winning record at any point during this season.
Starting point is 00:22:41 But now we sit in that order. The Diamondback or the Padres are at 17 and 7. Dodgers sit at 16 and 8 after losing to the Cubs last night. We're not the only ones that think we're going to beat the Cubs late in the game and then they come back and win. That team's going to be a problem. Giants are 15 and 9, Diamondbacks are 14 and 9. And the Rockies, they should be relegated as we've discussed here in this office at this point.
Starting point is 00:23:04 They sit at 4 and 18, and their season is already over. Yes, you are, let's see, Cubs had another late inning comeback in a high-scoring game, but this time it is against the Dodgers, so you love to see that. Cubs were down 10 to 7 in the 7th inning. Bottom of the 8th, Kyle Tucker made it a 10-9 game with a 2-run home run. Then Miguel O'Maya hit a game-ty home run in the bottom of the 9th to send it to extra innings just for Ian Hap to hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th. Now, while this is very good and while this is very, very, oh, Padres already lost today, there we go. There's a positive. There's an update that we also have live.
Starting point is 00:23:44 But as much as the Kilarexas 17 and 8, no, it's because we're doing this show and planning it ahead of time and the game wasn't over yet. But yeah, the Padres are now 17 and 8 this season. Cubs, meanwhile, probably going to be a problem this season. Glad they're not in our division. But, yeah, I don't know. Padres, again, they won last night. They lost today, so that's good. But they just continue to be a team that comes together,
Starting point is 00:24:15 no matter how much adversity they face. And that's frustrating, right? They also had their second shutout of the year yesterday. But yeah, they got blanked. That's excellent to hear. Excellent news in regards to this division. for the Diamondbacks. What's not great is the Padres also have a young player
Starting point is 00:24:35 that did him as something incredible yesterday. 18-year-old Leo DeVries, aka El Mutante, El Mutante, the Mutant, hit for the cycle for High A. Fort Wayne, including two home runs. He hit obviously a single, double, triple. He had eight RBI and those two home runs. Just to put this into historical,
Starting point is 00:24:59 historical context a bit. Only seven Major League baseball players have ever hit for the cycle with two home runs dating back to 1901, and one of them was an Arizona Diamondback. Greg Colbrun did it back on September 18, 2002, against coincidentally enough, the San Diego Padres. And it was a wild game. Colbrin was hitting out of his mind. He also had this triple in his last at bat that basically a wild series of events occurred
Starting point is 00:25:29 in order for him to get on third base. But yeah, the Diamondbacks have one of those. So whatever, 18-year-old Leo DeVries. I'm not, I don't have time to worry about you yet because I'm too busy worrying about this Padres team. There's also very, very good teams right now, just in the National League. The Mets have a historic start at home
Starting point is 00:25:51 with one of their best records at home in their first 13 games. Chicago Cubs, like I said, they don't have any quit in them. And people in the chat are talking about AJ Puck. There is no news from the second MRI. I'm not sure if AJ Puck, by the way, El Gaiio is going to get a second MRI as much as it might just be a second opinion. Yeah, that's, it's, it's, or a third opinion,
Starting point is 00:26:19 because we also heard that a third opinion might be coming. So it's not great. It's definitely not great for AJ Puck. And it hopefully, finds a way to turn around. Unfortunately, I don't think that that's going to be the case for A.J. Puck. And so it's going to be another arm that the Diamondbacks most likely lose for the season. Not the only one to Tommy John surgery either.
Starting point is 00:26:39 Don't forget. Jordan Montgomery also lost to Tommy John surgery. And Blake Walsden also lost, which is a left-hander. And that suddenly is becoming more and more important for the Diamondbacks in regards to this team and what they're going to do to find that extra left-hand. handed arm that isn't Jalen Beeks in their bullpen. That's going to be a problem for this season. But on the other side of this break, we are going to talk a little bit about the snake
Starting point is 00:27:07 farm and mostly Jordan Lawler, the season he's having, and speculate on what he was doing at Sky Harbor Airport yesterday. Make sure you don't go anywhere. Starting point is 00:29:43 Well, Noah, let's head on down to the snake farm with the Arizona Diamondbacks Farm system, a couple of guys to talk about the biggest one being, I guess the talk of the Diamondbacks, you know, fans online and the world. A lot of people,
Starting point is 00:29:59 are wondering why haven't we seen Jordan Lawler yet? We're past the period of time of service time manipulation, right? And the big question is with the Diamondbacks struggles there that kind of check off a lot of boxes for Jordan Lawler, you got Gino struggling over at third base. Meanwhile, with Cattel Marte out, you've had this platoon of Hampson and Tawa over there. And not to say it has, it's been fine. it just hasn't been perhaps what one Jordan Lawler could offer. So far this season, he's slashing 325, 423, 627 with at 1.049 OPS.
Starting point is 00:30:39 He has five home runs. He has eight stolen bases and he has 20 RBI in 21 games. His batting average on balls in play is 415 and he has a 43.4% hard hit percentage, which is outstanding. His walk rate is at 12.2%. strikeout rate is at 25.5%. We have confirmation that just to fuel speculation because people are wondering why wasn't Jordan Lawler in the lineup last night?
Starting point is 00:31:09 We don't know. We don't have confirmation on that. I do have confirmation that Jordan Lawler was here in Phoenix, Arizona, yesterday morning at Sky Harbor Airport. What he was doing here? I don't know. I don't know really if where he was going or where he was traveling to or where he was traveling to or from.
Starting point is 00:31:27 He wasn't here for the Diamondbacks game. It sounded like he was leaving town, not coming here to Phoenix. Sounds like he was there getting on a flight. So that's just something interesting in the grand scheme of things. Things like this happen, especially if maybe he was just getting something
Starting point is 00:31:43 perhaps checked out with the big league club or something of the sort. But considering Lawler plays all infield positions, it's understandable for people to want him to get called up, right? It would seem like he would be a big help at this point with Marte's injury and Gino's recent struggles. However, like I said on yesterday's show, the big problem here is how often can you get Jordan Lawler in there to play? How often can you get at bats?
Starting point is 00:32:10 Cotell Marte isn't going to be gone for too much longer. Tori Lavalovolo had said that he will be back before the end of the month of April or shortly after that. That is approaching here in seven days. And then you also have the fact that even if it takes a little bit, longer, it's still not a long period of time for Jordan Lawler to come up here and play second, right? However, again, this might just be about the fact that Lawler isn't ready over there at second base. I think that's what's having a bigger impact. He has been playing second base, and obviously that's a different side of the infield, so it's different than what he's used to
Starting point is 00:32:49 playing third and playing shortstop. But if it really might just be a fact that what he is displayed so far defensively isn't satisfactory, right? You call Jordan Lawler up. He starts botching, you know, in-field hits. You lose the fans pretty fast. You know, they turn on him in a way that they've kind of turned on, you know, Garrett Hampson.
Starting point is 00:33:15 And understandably, so there's been some, you know, mistakes defensively. from Hamson. There's been some mistakes on the base path from him. And also, he hasn't had a great year at the plate. He's been pretty bad. But again, Jordan Lawler needs to get consistent reps over there at second base and prove that he can play there defensively. If he can, then there really isn't a reason at this point to not call Jordan Lawler up, right? I mean, that the call-up could still get him consistent playing time. That's the biggest, that's the other problem is it goes beyond just his ability to play second base and be sound there defensively. This speaks to Lawler's ability to also get consistent at bats. They do not want to call up
Starting point is 00:34:01 Jordan Lawler until he's going to play almost every day, if not every day. Right. And there is, this would allow Tori a lot of flexibility, right? It would allow Tori to give Gino and Perdomo days off regularly, as well as giving Ketel. time off when he returns, it would allow Marte to play DH. It would perhaps allow Gino to play DH. And again, it would also allow Marte to maybe not have to play second bases often, right? So there's some advantages there to Jordan Lawler getting called up. It's not just the fact that he won't consistently play one position. You know, he could be a good utility infielder for this team that provides a lot of flexibility. And maybe if he's able to come up and hit,
Starting point is 00:34:49 major league hitting or pitching, then, you know, maybe he sees that playing time goes up, especially if someone like Gino can't figure a way out of his current slump that he's in, right? So there's definitely, you know, some a way for him to get there. But I don't know. That's what Peace of Yoshi is saying, and I completely agree. You go back there to Peace Vyoshi. He says, I don't think they want Lawler to get three to four days a week, though. And, yeah, that's really it.
Starting point is 00:35:19 They really want them playing every day. And that's going to happen soon for Jordan Lawler. It's just probably going to be after the end of the season because, you know, again, Gino is a free agent at the end of the year. Chances are they can't, you know, we talked about extending Gino. I don't know if that's something that people want, even though we still believe. I'm sure we believe that Gino is going to get his way out of this just like he did last year. But I don't know.
Starting point is 00:35:45 I don't know if the Diamondbacks want to maybe have some options over there for sure. Meanwhile, Tray Mancini, which continues to be one of the best stories in baseball, as far as I'm concerned, he's still a great depth piece for this team. Right now, he's slashing 310, 355, 471 with an 826 OPS for the Reno Aces. Has major league experience for the Diamondbacks over there at first should they need something in case of an emergency. But again, he's a guy that his walk rate right now isn't great. It's, in fact, pretty abysmal at 3.4%. So Trey Mancini would be a break glass in case of emergency situation. Diamondbacks do have that in case they need that over there at first base.
Starting point is 00:36:31 Meanwhile, Blaze Alexander is back, and that's fun, because Blaze is a very exciting player. Somebody who experienced an injury had a little bit of time off, but he has reached, he reached base four times. and last night's loss to Albuquerque. He went 1 for 2, or excuse me, 1 for 2, with a double and RBI and 3 walks. And he is 9 for 22 over his last 6 games.
Starting point is 00:36:57 He has a 409 batting average, 2 doubles, 6 RBI, and 7 walks over that span. So let's see here. Are we talking about service time in regards to Noah, what do we got here in the service time situation? I don't think anybody right now, It's not about manipulating service time for George Lawler, if that's what that is in reference to. Sorry, I get off track easily thanks to this chat. And I'm fine with that.
Starting point is 00:37:25 You guys always have fun stuff to say. But the service time, if I'm not correct, I could be wrong, but I believe the number of days that the Diamondbacks would have to wait in order for this to count over till next year has passed. So at this point, it wouldn't be a full year of service time. for Lawler. So yeah, now they could call them up. That's it's an option. It's not an option, but or it is an option, but I don't know if they're going to take it. I think
Starting point is 00:37:56 the biggest thing there is, is again, playing time, playing time for Jordan Lawler. Blaze Alexander, again, another guy that could be an option to get called up this season should the Diamondbacks need that depth. I know at one point they talked about stretching, not stretching them out, but having to play a little bit of outfield just to see what else
Starting point is 00:38:12 Blaze could add. So yeah, I mean, interesting. interesting to see what could happen there. But Diamondbacks farm system getting a little depleted, especially when it comes to arms in their farm system. So just goes to show how fast a team like this had a ridiculous amount of depth to start the season before we got here. And here we are sitting at April 23rd
Starting point is 00:38:36 and already kind of looking at what the Diamondbacks can do for another lefty in their system to call them up for support in the bullpen. So Raima says Tawa gets the... start for today's game. And again, I think some more bats for Tim Tawa is going to be key. Big, big home run for him yesterday. Chris C. The Grouch says, can Corbyn do the thing is the, and the thing is the MVP thing? Why not? Why can he? And in fact, I would even venture to ask, why can't pavement Smith do the MVP thing? I don't know. Throw it out there. Let's see what else we got. Elizabeth brought up the cactus light.
Starting point is 00:39:15 Did I miss the announcement that we're turning on the cactus light? Oh, I swear to God, you guys are never going to see that cactus light again as long as I live. That's going to be the big announcement. That is going to be the big announcement, is that the cactus light got thrown away in the trash. No, I would never do that to you because I am your mayor and I do things to make you happy. I was a little surly the other day. I might have still been drunk for Las Vegas. There's no way for me to know.
Starting point is 00:39:40 But I will say this. Maybe we'll get that cactus light turned on for you. We'll see. No promises, but I do have a promise that I've been keeping, trying to keep for a while. So of course if you have not considered a diehard membership yet, get it just so that you get the drop on the early news, right? And again, get that shirt and get some wonderful stuff. B says, I wish I could say what it is. You got to prepare yourself for this chat. It is, it is a big news. And of course, we've had some guesses. Someone thought
Starting point is 00:44:07 it was Randy Johnson. Maybe he's going to do a PHNX live. That's not happening. But I'm going to keep that one. That's a good idea. I'm going to, I'm going to see if I could get Randy Johnson in there. He won't want to talk about baseball, though. He'll mostly want to talk about his pictures, and I'm fine with that. I'm totally fine with that. You should make sure you go check out his exhibit. It's free. It's in center field. It's great. And yeah, there's lots of ideas thrown through, flown through. Someone's asking if I'm starting on Only fans. We'll see. I mean, I'm not opposed to that. I just have to figure out my audience for sure. But we do. have Noah here, Noah. I'm so happy to have you here for the first time. You've not,
Starting point is 00:44:49 you, how long have you been at PH&X? I think about six months. And you're still, and you're still willingly coming in here every single day. Why yet, of course. It's crazy. It's crazy. But again, we've had a lot of people come through here, right? We've got a lot of wonderful, wonderful people. People who I know I miss just as much as so many of you guys miss out there. And, uh, could say a whole conga line of people have come through here. I believe we've been. I believe We have a clip that kind of illustrates that. Noah, if you would. Honestly, just continuing this conga line that we've talked about of Diamondbacks prospects
Starting point is 00:45:23 that are ready to come up and ready to do big things in the major leagues. What word did you just use? Congoline. I have no idea what that means. You don't even know what a convaline is, Jesse? No, I'm no. Oh, my God. Jesse Friedman.
Starting point is 00:45:35 I don't know why I say these things on the show. Because instantly, the moment I start a statement with I don't know, blank, I'm basically just asking for it. and this is the reaction, but go ahead, tell me. What is it? It's a dance formation where people get in a line and they dance. Oh, yeah, I don't like line dancing. I don't even know how to explain it because there's no, I've never had to explain
Starting point is 00:45:58 anything like this before. Anytime I say conga line, people know what I mean. Jesus Christ. So it's like a line dance, like formation thing? No. You get in line and you move around the floor, you kind of like go around the dance floor, maybe around the room. It's done at like weddings and parties and things like that.
Starting point is 00:46:13 Oh, okay. Yeah, no, I know what you mean. I just didn't know what it was called. I just I didn't know what it was I'm gonna leave there's some serious emotion going Look at it They're doing it This is a cargoy Jesse Hey, I get it I know what it is See this is a cargallon I understand now
Starting point is 00:46:34 I actually get it you know, you know what I've never seen this before You got to live this is It's absolutely crazy to me This is the best possible explanation I ever could have You go. You go. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:45 You go. You go. Yeah. That was incredible. That's my favorite clip in the history of this show. And our big announcement is that my former co-host and the current host of Snakes Territory, Jesse Friedman, will be joining us on the show weekly to talk ball again. Jesse, in fact, is going to join me. Get in here.
Starting point is 00:47:08 Get in here and scream. Jesse will join me on. Friday's post game. This guy's bad. We're going to be back together to talk about the debacks versus the Braves. So again, very excited
Starting point is 00:47:23 to have Jesse back, of course, that moment, all-time great moment here at PHNX. And it's something, Candace wants to let me cry now. I'm not going to cry. Don't you tell Jesse I got emotional about this.
Starting point is 00:47:38 But very excited, of course, if you haven't had the opportunity to check out Jesse's show, doing a great job with our guy Jack Summers over there at Snake's Territory for the Fowl Territory Network. So, of course, go give them a follow, check them out as well. But, yeah, this might be the very first installment of Friedman Friday on this show because Jesse's going to join us, of course, to chat about that game, postgame. And, of course, you know, give us some analysis. Very, very, very, very, very meaningful to me, obviously, because this is something that has meant a lot to me.
Starting point is 00:48:13 Jesse and I have had a chance to do this show together in the past, and he's the best co-host I've ever had. No disrespect to anybody else. I've had the pleasure of doing the show with or any of the podcast with that I've done in the past. I know my friend Tim right now is probably throwing stuff in his house about the fact that I'm just totally trampling over our former snacks podcast like this. But as you guys know, there are a few people that know the Diamondbacks the way that Jesse does, and he will be joining us, of course, got himself a very, very busy.
Starting point is 00:48:43 plate so it's very excited that he's given us some time come back here and uh and join us a little bit to talk about it so michael b says wait i usually have fridays off so i get to see every freedom friday sounds like you pick the best schedule buddy uh yep uh chris charles you're right the vice mayor is returning to the office nature is healing yeah man i mean it's uh it's great thing uh jesse of course like i said is uh has been doing his teaching thing again as well as hosting that podcast for Snake's Territory. So I'm really just excited for that. And of course, this sometimes in life, this stuff goes beyond, you know, beyond just a job, right? So again, this is very cool for me, very cool for all of you. I know so many people miss Jesse. So this is,
Starting point is 00:49:31 as V says, this is a very pro-chessie, pro-Jessie chat. Yeah, but Lawrence asked who is responsible for this turn of events. Who do we have to thank? To be honest, Espos has done a tremendous job of recognizing what we do here for the Diamondbacks community and what we do as a show and making sure that he did everything in his power to bring us back. So again, not necessarily back, but chance to do a show together once again, very, very cool for me, excited for that. And of course, I know a lot of people out there are excited. So we will be back tomorrow with another postgame show, a Jesse list post game show, but then he'll be here joining us again on Friday.
Starting point is 00:50:17 So, yeah, no, I mean, this is the best possible news. Still not ideal, right? At the end of the day, wish this never had to end, right? But great to have him back. And Stephen Banana says, Jesse the baby face, is making a comeback to defeat the heel, Derek, for the title mayor. I welcome the challenge. And you know what? He'll probably want to turn on the cactus light immediately.
Starting point is 00:50:41 It's going to infuriate me. He's going to immediately be on your guys's side with this. So yeah. Bourbon and baseball says, so Jesse will be on once a week, just making sure I understand, yes. Jesse will be joining us as often as possible. So it might not be every single week,
Starting point is 00:50:58 but he will be here once a week as much as he can make it. Like I said, Manning's, schedule. That man has a lot on his plate right now. So, of course, any, any opportunity to have him on is great. Like, like B says, any Jesse moments are better than no Jesse moments. So, he currently has moved to San Diego to take on a new position. So he keeps sending me pictures of the beach and I keep wanting to smash my phone when I see how beautiful his drive is. Also, uh, WWE is bringing Survivor series to Petco Park where the San Diego,
Starting point is 00:51:35 Padres play and there is a zero there there's there's no chance I won't be hitting jesse up for a place to stay so I get to go watch pro wrestling in a baseball stadium so that's very exciting but uh very very excited again for this news I hope you guys are as well diamondbacks again they take on let's take a look at that probable pitcher's graphic again before we get out of here diamondbacks have uh bradley today from the Tampa Bay raise and rasmussen which is just an incredible incredible incredible light name going here in the rest of the series. Gotta, got to be pretty excited about the Diamondback's chances here,
Starting point is 00:52:13 especially with Corbyn Burns going in the finale again. And I honestly, I'm not as concerned about Corbyn Burns as I once was. I do think that, again, a lot of this, just like it was with the defense, has been about growing pain.
Starting point is 00:52:27 So, you know, I think that we're going to see some more consistency. And I don't think Randy Johnson is that far by calling this the best starting rotation in Diamondbacks history. Again, even that rotation that consisted of him and Kurt Schilling was Randy Johnson and Kirk Schilling, no disrespect to Miguel Batiste or anybody else on that team. But a big part of that, the reason why they were so good was those two guys at the top.
Starting point is 00:52:56 This rotation is different, and I will agree that this might be a situation where he's right about the overall production from guys one through five top top to bottom so uh again diamondbacks just have some a little bit little bit of things to work out here uh they still have some guys that need to get hitting but uh they take on the braves who are going through their struggles after their series with the raise after this uh and then they have a series uh in new york at the met's where the met's been very very good uh that's followed up by a series with the fillies and then another series with the meds and then a series with the series with the Dodgers and then a series with the Giants. So the Diamondbacks have a pretty decent gauntlet ahead of them in the month of May. Who knows? Maybe I'll make a stupid bet about if
Starting point is 00:53:41 they can come out of the month with a winning record. I've been known to do that before. But yes, Sean, Friedman Fridays are going to be cinema. You're absolutely right about that. A piece of Yoshi says the, oh, the Diamondbacks game I'm going to next week is David Peterson versus Erod. So yay? Great stuff. But again, cannot wait for the Diamondbacks to finish up this month because so far they're on a roll. And they might have a chance to finish the month of April with a record that's even better than 15 and 11. That was kind of the mark we set that said if they could get there. You got to feel kind of good about that.
Starting point is 00:54:19 But yeah, I mean, at this point, the Diamondbacks have, you know, finished the month strong because that month of May starts out really rough. And those Mets right now are playing really, really. good baseball again. Look around Major League Baseball right now. The Mets sit at 18 and 7. The Chicago Cubs are at 15 and 10. Padres are 17 and 8. I got it right
Starting point is 00:54:40 that time. So yeah, there's a lot of competition here in the National League and again Diamondbacks have a chance even though they're fourth in their division to still hang in there because if they weren't in this division they would be at 14 and 9
Starting point is 00:54:55 the number one team and a lot of divisions in baseball, including the ALE East and the A.L. Central and tied for the A.L. West. So, yeah, that's it. Lawrence asked, what shirt am I wearing? It's little kitty cats doing a Hurricane Rana. This is the only shirt I bought at WrestleMania weekend, and it was an absolute instant purchase. So, yeah, that's that. A piece of Yoshi says, best team in baseball by record. Shut up, Yoshi. That's him talking about the Mets. And this is not a Mets podcast. So don't forget that.
Starting point is 00:55:32 Ron, you got anything? You got anything for me before we get out of here? I made the announcement about Jesse way too early, I feel like. I should have made people wait until right now. The one thing I'll say is go tigers to sweep the Padres. Well, I don't typically allow pro-other team banter here from our producers. I do have to put it up with it from Kevin with St. Louis Cardinals and Shane with the Seattle Mariners. So I will accept this from you,
Starting point is 00:56:01 especially considering you found a way to tie it back in, have them beat the Padres. I like that. Cole Cunningham says more like Purricanran. That's what I thought, too. Should have really been puricanerana. Stephen Banana says you think Jesse is going to turn heel and Derek is turning baby face.
Starting point is 00:56:18 Perhaps we'll never know. Well, you'll know soon enough because Jesse will be here, like I said, on Friday. But Diamondbacks, again, interesting things happening. I'm still very interested in. we got a confirmed report of Jordan Lawler being here in Phoenix yesterday morning at Sky Harbor Airport. So that's still intriguing to me.
Starting point is 00:56:40 And I can really, I really can see a path here to the Diamondbacks actually getting Lawler enough playing time potentially should they decide to maybe give Gino a rest or perhaps go on from him at this point. But anyway, that's all we got for today. Of course, we thank you guys so much. for your time. Look forward to our first edition of Friedman Friday this Friday. I hope you guys all enjoyed the announcement as much as I did. And that's the last time I'm ever going to tear up in
Starting point is 00:57:10 front of any of you monsters ever again. I might take out, I might take it out on the cactus light. We'll see what happens. But Noah, I don't know your Twitter handle off the top of my head. What's your Twitter handle? Bing, Bing, boom, bang. No, it's not. No. I'm not worth a Twitter follow. Oh, stop it. You absolutely are. This man. does great work for us. I am at Cap underscore K-Man, of course. Our show is at P-H-N-X underscore D-Backs, but as always, all roads lead to at P-H-N-X underscore sports. As far as the rest of the week goes, we will have post-game shows for you tomorrow and Friday. I brought it up on yesterday's show. If you're die-hard, drop it in the Discord. If you are not, maybe send
Starting point is 00:57:53 me a tweet or whatever. Love to hear your feedback on the post-game stuff. For now, I am but one man, I am Derek. Wait, let me get my hand. I am Derek. And I could only be so many places at once. So again, if our post-game coverage has been starting a little too late for you, love to hear the feedback on that. If you're cool with us going about an hour after the game ends so that I can get in there at the clubhouse and talk to the guys and talk to Tori. Love to hear in regards to that too. When we make these decisions, I have no idea how much people do or don't like the idea of waiting up that long after a game. So again, I'd love to hear the feedback from you guys.
Starting point is 00:58:32 Hopefully, I won't get stuck on 7th Street and Jefferson again with a broken down light rail. I don't know if any of you got stuck behind that or in that light rail, but that sucked last night. So hopefully we will not have to have that happen again. But great to have you guys, of course, here. Hope you guys are very excited for Thunderstick to be on the show here, giving his analysis. And again, in regards to Jesse, make sure you follow Jesse Friedman. Make sure you check out their show at Snake's Territory. Also, give my guy Jack Summers a follow as well.
Starting point is 00:59:02 They're all really good people. Great people covering this Diamondbacks team that we all love. So, of course, we thank you again for your time. We will see you tomorrow for another postgame show. And until then, you guys got to behave yourselves. Make sure you drink plenty of water. Behave yourselves. That's twice because I know you're not going to.
Starting point is 00:59:20 And remember, kids, baseball is fun, but it's so much more fun when you could talk about it with Jesse.
