Of course, I am joined by my friend, my co-host, my vice mayor, the one and only Jesse Friedman.
Starting point is 00:00:39 Jesse, I'm excited. We have a big cast today. I am also excited. The people did not come to listen to us today, Derek. Not at all. Nobody wants to hear us yammer on the way that we do all the time. But today we are joined by an expert not only in Diamondbacks baseball, but an expert in Arizona sports baseball or Arizona sports period.
Starting point is 00:01:02 It's the one and only Jody Jackson from Valley Sports. Jody, so glad to have you with us. Thank you so much for coming in. How you doing? Great. How did you guys get me into the Jumbotron there? That's pretty cool. We have graphics guys. They're amazing. They do incredible stuff. We just dream it up and they get it done for us. But how have you been doing? How was your baseball season covering this team? Well, you probably know how it was, right? It wasn't great. You know, if you love the sport of baseball, you know, there's always something exciting at the ballpark every day. And there are plenty of things to talk about.
Starting point is 00:01:41 But yeah, 52 and 110 is not something any of us expected. It was weird for me because the start of the season, I was do a bunch of games in a row. Like, I think I did 40 out of the first 44. And actually, that was a fun stretch. Like, it's almost like you couldn't believe that even happened because they were competitive. Yeah. They really were. And they were leading like.
Starting point is 00:02:05 I know it sounds ridiculous now to even talk about it, but like in April, for a stretch there, they were leading the majors in like run score. They had a lot of homers. And then it just, I mean, a lot of things happened, right? Like, you know, other teens sort of that were, you know, they were really had regressed early progressed later, Diamondbacks completely regressed. And a lot of it is due to some people. don't like the term, you know, complimentary, whether it's baseball, football, whatever it is,
Starting point is 00:02:39 but it really is. And when you lose all your pitchers and when you are down in every game early on, I think it does affect the hitters. And so it really, you know, to me it was the pitching that struggled the most, the starters, the pen, you know, and then, and then as we know, the hitters didn't do much, much of anything remarkable after that first month and a half. So it really was a struggle. Yeah, and you could see it. You could see, I think, everybody trying too hard because of how things were falling apart. And again, like you said, that never leads to success for anybody, whether it's pitching or hitting or anything. Once you start trying too hard, the wheels fall off. Yeah, I was thankful for some of the cool moments. I mean, Tyler Gilbert's no hitter was such an
Starting point is 00:03:26 amazing night. Just the way that he went out there, like, I'm just going to do this. Like day one. the big leagues, right? And like had some balls hit really hard, but guys were there. I mean, that was, that was really awesome. I mean, and so there were some times that, you know, we'll go down and like, okay, that was, that was really cool. But, you know, the other thing that hurt, too, is by the time things started spiraling down, you know, then off goes Stephen vote. Off goes Eduardo Escobar. So, you know, and then we saw a lot of young players and some of them performed well at times. A lot of them struggled. And we learned a lot more about Pavin Smith. We learned a lot more about Josh Rojas.
Starting point is 00:04:02 And then some of the other guys, I think they just weren't, Adulton Varshow, can't leave him out. But some other guys just really weren't able to get into a groove. But hopefully, you know, we'll see them continue to progress in the years to come next year in particular. Yeah. Jody, I'm curious. I want to know for you specifically how this season was, right? You've been given the nearly impossible task for road games of hosting shows for an audience when you're not,
Starting point is 00:04:32 at the game. You're at Chase Field in an empty stadium. And somehow you're supposed to put a smile on your face, right, and do the very best you can to engage an audience when you're not really in the building with the team, really feeling what's happening in the stadium at the time. And I know you're obviously not the only one in this position, right? This is something that broadcasters across the game have had to deal with for the last couple of years. I think the Blue Jays broadcaster was simulcasting radio and TV, which I don't know how. that's physically possible. But give us an idea, Jody. What is this like as someone in your shoes to be tasked with something like that? Well, I mean, you learn because we did it for the shortened season
Starting point is 00:05:15 and then again last year over whole season. So you learn that, you know, it can be done and you can still talk about topics and get guys on a Zoom call. And I think the biggest thing for me was I really enjoyed getting, so the things you do in the pregame kind of venue, you again in the game and stuff like that. And I used to love going in with the cameraman on the road, you know, different people that, you know, you kind of have a crew in each city. And you could go in and have a topic and like canvas the room, get four or five guys, you know, no wonder they were probably tired of me, right? They enjoyed the break. You can go in and you can interview guys on any number of things. And that's the only issue with Zoom is that, you know, even though, you know,
Starting point is 00:05:58 the debacks were great about making guys available, but it's more like just one or two. And, you know, the turnaround is a little different. So, you know, I, I think it will, I don't really have any official word on what's going to happen next year, but I'm thinking that it might go back to more of a, you know, be on the road. I think we're all kind of hoping that to be able to actually capture what's going on. But, yeah, I mean, it was, I think it's funny. It's a good question because looking back you quickly adjust and then you have a new normal and then everything now is you know you might add more highlights or more graphics or because you have less sound or you have less of a story to tell just from your own personal experience of i walked by so and so today and he was working in the cage on this or you know not that not that you know we're down in the cage or anything all the time but you know you just you have that opportunity in the dugout while you guys know how baseball is it's kind of what makes it special you know even if you're you know even if you're down in the cage or anything all the time you know you know even if you're you're just you're If you're not in the clubhouse, you know, you're just on the field for batting practice. And we were doing that again, you know, at home, obviously we were doing that.
Starting point is 00:07:02 And you guys were down there, I believe. I saw you guys out there, you know. I mean, you are able to go back to, hey, I heard you were working on this. And so tell me more on that. And you, you are, a lot of it is casual conversation that you took for granted for, for me, like for 20 years. Right. Going back to my days, my first job at WQAM radio covering all the South Florida teams and covering the 97 Marlins. I cover the Marlins actually in 95 and 96 too. But, you know,
Starting point is 00:07:33 that's the beauty of baseball is that you can just chit chat with everyone, find out those little details and they're usually willing to tell you that stuff. And that's how we fill our time, you know, with these stories. So it was, it was difficult. I think we had a little bit of a buffer last year like learning how to do that. And then this year it was just easing back in. We did have better access, which was nice. Yeah. And, you guys did a great job, but we understand how difficult it is, definitely. It's the same with writing and anything, just kind of doing it from a distance. It's a bit difficult and hard to have an original story when everybody is basically in the same Zoom calls, hearing the same answers and all of that
Starting point is 00:08:10 kind of stuff. But I did want to get your thoughts before you go on, on just the DBAC's current coaches, the new coaches that they brought on and just the impact that this, their experience, years and years of experience in the MLB can have on this team. Yeah, I think it's huge. First, we saw, I think the first tire technically was Joe Mather coming over. Yes. Who was a Reds assistant. And then Jeff Bannister, you know, who's got a wealth of experience, going to be the bench coach. And we know he's the manager with the Rangers. And I like how Tori really talked about, like, the connection that he has with the players. So that's just another extension of what Tori does well, but also you've got a guy that has his own perspective on the game and strategies in the game.
Starting point is 00:08:55 And then I think the biggest move of all that was Brent Strom. I mean, this guy is unbelievable. My friends in the business that cover the Astros, just what he did for them over the last eight years or so. Everybody talks about just using spin and getting the most out of pitchers. You know, it's not just throwing more curve balls, but how to use it, how to maneuver through an out bat. And he's the guy that even at 73 is known for really using those analytics in a special way, in their most useful way.
Starting point is 00:09:32 And so I think he's going to bring a lot. And I remember him just as a visitor coming over. We would interview him at times. And I feel like he's known like when I was first getting to know it. Like it was about a decade ago or whatever. And it's like, okay, he's the second guy to have Tommy John surgery. So that's like his little subtitle, right, Brent Strong. Second in line after Tommy John.
Starting point is 00:09:54 You know, it would have been, it would have been BS surgery if it was, if he was first. Yeah, but I'm excited to see what he's going to do for these pitchers. And I think, as you guys know, it's been tough. You've watched a lot of young pitchers. Well, I should say young and old, because he has done a great job, you know, remaking guys like Charlie Morton and, you know, Colin McHugh. And you can go on and on. But also young pitchers that come up, you know, especially when you watch the guys with the Dodgers
Starting point is 00:10:23 and the Giants and, you know, just the Diamondbacks have not had some of those young prospects come up and make the impact. And, you know, I think that's something that might be a little bit, you know, I'm hopeful that that might happen more frequently. And it's no knock on the previous coaches here. I just think Strom brings another element. And but look, the other thing is I was thinking about this the other day. And when they hired him, I'm thinking, okay, but he's not a magician. So, you know, where do you land on how he's going to impact? everything because you still have to upgrade your talent level. You still have to hope that some of these young pitchers are making the right strides.
Starting point is 00:11:01 And some of it is like it's on them. You know, they have to be personally motivated to take that next step. But there's a lot of talent in the pipeline. I know you guys probably talk about it all the time, especially when you talk about pitchers. And so the fact that it's going to be organizational and it's going to be the guys at the big league level and then all the way through, I think DBAX. fans should be really excited for what Brent Strom is going to bring. Yeah, we are definitely.
Starting point is 00:11:28 And we're excited about the progression of this young talent that, again, you're right. It's on them to come up and accept this opportunity at a major league level. It's just exciting to see that it seems like they have the right guys in place to be mentors over this young farm system that is going to eventually develop into their future. But, hey, Jody, thank you so much for joining us. We appreciate it so much. And we definitely have to get you back again. Hey, absolutely.
Starting point is 00:11:56 I appreciate it, guys. And look forward to talking some more debacks as this offseason continues. Yes, let's see him turn it around next year, hopefully, for sure. We're hoping. Absolutely. I think I'm going to go on the over on the 52 wins. What about you guys? That's what I said.
Starting point is 00:12:14 We hit rock bottom. It's got to go up from here. Take care, Jody. Thank you. All right, guys. Thanks for having me. Oh, man. she was awesome. And yeah, no, I am excited for the future of this team for sure, man.
Starting point is 00:12:27 I, again, I think she's right, though. Again, we, we talk about how exciting these coaching hires are, but he's not a magician. He's not a magician, right? You got a temper expectations. You know, it's again, it's kind of like Mike Hazen saying nobody that they bring in as a free agent is going to get them 40 wins, right? Right. Today, we saw Gabe Kapler, manager for the San Francisco Giants named the National League manager of the year. I don't, I don't want to like that, Derek, but I kind of have to. You have to respect it. Because, I mean, they won 107 freaking games.
Starting point is 00:13:03 I mean. And I mean, come on, in a season where before it even started, people were already debating about whether the Padres had done enough to catch up to the Dodgers and surpass them with no mention of teams like the Giants, the Rockies, or the debacks. Well, not only that, but. It was like, I personally, I remember when I was talking about the Diamondbacks on my show back in the day, I was talking about how the Diamondbacks and the Giants entering 2021 were roughly on the same level, you know? I could see the Diamondbacks being a little better. I could I get the Giants being in the game better, but they're pretty close.
Starting point is 00:13:43 And then, oh my gosh, what happened? The Giants wound up. They more than doubled up the Diamondbacks win total, which in baseball, is quite a feat to actually double up any other team in baseball's record. And that's exactly what the Giants did with a team that I thought was going to be roughly as good as they were. So I look like an idiot today, Derek. But the good news is I guess I'm not the only one. So I rest in that right now. Well, hey, I'm, I still have how I pronounce Peter Borgesse name or Borges. Yeah, you really, you really got it over Twitter, Derek. And I have to say the people, the people have
Starting point is 00:14:21 taken my side. It's a bunch of bot accounts that you're controlled by, even the one with the blue check mark. Even baseball reference, it's just a bunch of bot accounts. Yeah. I don't even believe Peter. I don't think Peter's pronouncing it right. All right. I'll go that far. But I do want to have Jody back because we have to find out. I think she's friends with the Rock. They were at Miami. Yeah, we didn't get a chance to ask that. You at the same time. So we need to find out because I'm pretty sure she's friends with the Rock. So she was a, let's provide the context here. So she was a cheerleader at the University of Miami.
Starting point is 00:14:58 At the same time, Dwayne the Rock Johnson, my personal hero in life, obviously. It should be everybody's personal hero. Was a football player there. So yeah, watch Young Rock. You'd find that out. I'm pretty sure she's a character in the background, at least an extra or something. But just reminder to everybody, again, go on a Draft King Sportsbook app. is the official sportsbook app of both the NBA and the NFL,

Starting point is 00:16:44 See DraftKings.com slash sportsbook for detail. Jesse Chris says Joe says Jody is the absolute best in the chat by the way Chris I have to can't can't disagree with you there Jody is the absolute best well and it's funny because she does so many different sports and everything is I don't know man I agree with everything that she was saying and I was also at the no hitter that Jody was talking about
Starting point is 00:17:14 and that Chris is talking about here yeah again a very memorable night and there was just a lot of memorable things. I think that even though this season went the way it did, there was still a lot of, there was still a lot of special moments. Little moments here and she, you know what? She brings up the point that I brought up about that damn curse with the Baxter head, right? Everything was going good back in April. Prior to May 15th. Follow the losses back to May 15th. I'll tell you. It explains it. I'm telling you. I'm telling you. I'm telling you. you. And another thing, again, here, Jacob's saying access is everything in the business. And, you know, I think that's a big part to consider. Again, they have done a great job over there with the Diamondbacks broadcast when it comes to the lack of access. They have the same access any
Starting point is 00:18:05 of us have now without having that special ability to get the insider stories. I know, you know, guys like Zach Buchanan, for instance, over at the athletic are big on that. That's where some of his best pieces come from. So it's been difficult this season, but hopefully next, next season we will see that access return. We were down. Obviously, I talked about this. Tori LaBolo loves this guy, Jesse Friedman over here with the, with the stories about being the kid pastor. You're convinced that he just loves me, that he just thinks I'm so cool. He does. He really does. He was enamored with you. He had to start like stars in his eyes when he was talking to you. I mean, who doesn't, Derek? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:18:47 on on that note on that note back to back to chris who is just chiming in in the chat did you were you watching a ph and x suns post game last night derrick i was watching it did you did you did you see what chris said about well she really said it about gerald it was more common about jerald than it was about me but i i feel i feel honored by the comparison with gerald board day i just had to i just had to throw that out there i'll tell you this much um i don't um i don't uh I don't like all of this Jesse praise that's going on today. The by Smeller is stellar. Whatever. I feel shunned, but you are great and it's why.
Starting point is 00:19:29 We love you too, Derek. We love you too. It's again, Jesse. I will die with this iPhone 13 in one hand and you firmly in the other. And that's how this life is going because you are the best. And I appreciate all of your knowledge about baseball. speaking of which some knowledge about baseball has come out today despite the inevitable lockout looming. We do have some free agency news that's developed.
Starting point is 00:19:55 You can still sign a free agent, Derek. I don't really know why people are doing it because we don't really know what the state of baseball is going to be in a few months. But things are still happening. And I'll ask you this, potentially what happens could impact these deals, right? I mean, even if they sign the deal and make it official before the lockout, isn't there a potential that they could still be impacted by a potential work stoppage? I think, I mean, a work stoppage obviously affects everyone, right? Sure.
Starting point is 00:20:29 If we're not playing baseball, then of course the people who sign aren't playing either. But I don't think it necessarily, the things that are going to be debated in the CBA, in this ongoing CBA discussions that are being had, aren't really with regard to free agents that have already signed contracts, right? Like if you sign, you know, if, if Noah Cinderguard signs a one year $21 million deal like he did today with the Angels, he's going to make $21 million next year, right? Like that's just sort of, now that that's signed. That's the way it's going to work.
Starting point is 00:20:59 Right. Yeah. The CBA is more about, you know, guys in arbitration. Is the arbitration process going to stay the same? There's all sorts of crazy things that have happened with that. are we going to decrease or increase the number of years of control that teams get over players when they bring them up? Those are the things that are more likely to be factors here.
Starting point is 00:21:21 So in that sense, I guess it makes sense. If you're going to sign, if you're a free agent and you want to get things done early, there's not necessarily a reason to hold off. It's more just like baseball may be sort of a hot mess here in a month or two, depending on how these negotiations go. And there's just a lot that has to play out between now and then. The Toronto Blue Jays extended Jose Berrios to a seven-year, $131 million deal,
Starting point is 00:21:50 which you know instantly I'm not a fan of. However, it is $131 million over seven years, which still breaks down to... Wait, how do I know instantly you're not a fan of that? Because you know I don't like Big Trump. I don't like big contracts, Jesse. I think it's ridiculous. I think giving any athlete more than four years is absurd.
Starting point is 00:22:12 And now obviously maybe I'm going in the direction of owners or whatever. I feel it's best for everybody involved, right? New contracts or contracts expires so that way at the time, you can assess the play of the player at the time. Few people are good in their sport or playing at an elite level for more than five years, right? And especially once like once there are. for once they become a free agent like once they get to the point of needing an extension they've already been in the league for usually six years which means they're probably about 30 years old
Starting point is 00:22:47 so if you're signing a guy to an extension for seven years after that you're right like guys don't generally pitch that well into their late 30s right like that doesn't normally happen it's all you what you're paying for there is you're you're paying for what the player was you're you're hoping you're hoping for the future value right But fundamentally, that's what free agency is. That's the game that that everyone plays. And I think you're right. Like it results in contracts that are usually kind of ludicrous.
Starting point is 00:23:18 And Jose Brios is a good picture. I'm not necessarily totally against this. He's a little bit younger. Yeah. So maybe this works out for them. Sure. Yeah. Seven years is a lot, though, for Jose.
Starting point is 00:23:27 And again, it's not throwing money at a free agent to bring them in. It's, you know, extending a guy that had a great season for you that you believe is the future of. of your starting rotation. I get that. I just also think that really what it is is the owner kind of making a gamble on the fact that this player is going to be that good for that extended period of time. And that based on inflation and the way that, you know,
Starting point is 00:23:55 the way that what players are making down the road might be just insanely increased, they might be getting themselves a value when it comes to someone like Fernando Tatis Jr's huge contract or this contract. as far as what that player could be making down the road, right? Right. But anyway, that's all boring. I just want to know, are you giving any D-BACs players that kind of extension, Jesse? Are you giving any D-backs players a seven-year $130 million deal at this point in any of their careers with this team?
Starting point is 00:24:28 I mean, you mean like right now? Like right now. Forget right now. Let's playing, just pretending the situation is what it is. let's say that they're all, you know, they have one deal, one year left on their deal and it's time to extend them or make that decision, not extending them more on whatever their contract currently is, but just saying right now, if it was kind of even across the board, who would you extend or would you extend anyone to that kind of deal?
Starting point is 00:24:55 The Diamondbacks are in kind of a strange situation where I think if anything, the problem with their current roster is that they've kind of over-extended guys. like do you really want nick omit for two more seasons and even david peralta do you really need him back for another year you know as some of these younger players come up and even with the with some of the diamond backs um you know top talents some of their best players could tell marty is under contract with team options through 2024 so you've already got him for three more seasons and the same goes that gallon i believe is through 2025 carson kelly i believe is through 2024 i need to check that i'm not sure maybe someone in the in the chat can can correct me there uh i think i think that's right um but yeah
Starting point is 00:25:41 they already have derrick they already have their most talented guys under contract for a long time so i think there's a case to be made like if katel marty's deal was up like yeah you probably would give him something like seven years 131 million but the diamond backs don't really have that problem they literally this season they literally had no free agents they had no major league free agents. The only guys that left this team were guys whose options they declined or guys who potentially they might have their contracts non-tendered. So that's kind of the situation this team is in right now. Evan Thompson says sometimes when extending you have to pay more simply to keep others from getting him. And that's what it is. Exactly it. It really is. It's a competition. It's a competition. And that's why
Starting point is 00:26:27 a guy like Brios can get seven years because on the open market with, you know, know all the teams that would be in on a guy like that, someone's going to go crazy and someone's going to give him more than, to your point, Derek, more than he may ultimately be worth. But in order to win the bid, that's what you're going to have to do. Sometimes you got to open the wallet up. And we like to do that with the debacks money around here. So we might have to do that again. But we'll see what happens with free agency with this team.
Starting point is 00:26:59 We will have some pieces about that as free agency goes on. And as this story about the lockout developed, so make sure you go over to go PHNX.com, sign up to become a member. You can either become a yearly member, and that'll get you a free t-shirt over at the PHNX Locker.com. A great Christmas present, by the way. Give somebody a year's subscription. Give them a free t-shirt.
Starting point is 00:27:21 60 bucks, you're the hero. Also, you can get the month-to-month option, and you'll get your first month for just 50 cents. And again, I think the Sons and Coyotes, I don't really pay attention. I know I'm the mayor of PHNX. I got a lot of stuff going on around here. I'm writing movie reviews. The mayor needs a secretary, right? I need, hold on.
Starting point is 00:27:39 You're my vice mayor, and you're teaching people and taking up all your time with your other careers. But I will say this. We have lots of great content over at go phnx.com. I reviewed the movie King Richard, which I got the opportunity to see early. A great film with Will Smith was just incredible in this movie. But yeah, go check that out. And again, you become a member, come a family member. Join us in the Discord.
Starting point is 00:28:05 I joined the Discord finally, Jesse. I joined it. You finally did. I finally figured it out. After your whole debacle with not knowing how to pronounce the thing, you finally popped in there, Derek. Is it Discord or is it Discord? I don't know, but.
Starting point is 00:28:18 It's neither. It is neither of those things, Derek. But anyway, yeah, become a member and get all of that free stuff and all of that access. Starting point is 00:28:40 And yes, yes, to answer your question, some new t-shirts for the D-BACs podcast are coming. I promise you. They are coming. We're a little out of season right now. We're a little out of season. We're in November. It's sort of, you know. But see, we need that.
Starting point is 00:28:56 Jesse, we need it. It's out. It's out of season's shirt. Maybe that's what we need to get up there is like, what what to do during the off season well we just wait for baseball to come back around don't worry it'll be here before you know it you'll blink and it'll be here uh but yeah evan thompson answered your question by the way you did um marty both kelly's walker and wendulkin are all either signed or under team control until 20 25 so yes this team i think it's wendalkin derrick you're
Starting point is 00:29:24 you're you're killing us here you're gonna anger so many people wonderkin wonder can is what i'm him. Okay. All right. Jesse, before we go, Carlos Correa did not do much to win over the New York fan base with his recent comments, saying, and I quote, and I quote, Jesse, Derek Jeter, God bless him, Derek Jeter didn't deserve any of the golden gloves he won.
Starting point is 00:29:55 Is he right, Jesse? Does this mean he's not going to the Yankees, more important? I don't know. Is this relationship ruined before it started? I mean, Carlos, I mean, let's think about this from a Yankee fan perspective. You already don't really like Carlos Correa very much, right? Because he's an astro. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:18 Right? Yeah. Yeah. So like, I don't think they were necessarily enamored by Carlos Correa to begin with. But that said, I mean, the Yankees are known to be in the market for one of the top short stops. and Carlos Correa is probably going to get the most money out of all of them. And it kind of makes sense that that would be a fit.
Starting point is 00:30:36 At the end of the day, I don't think these comments are going to really come into play. I think fans might not like him as much. That's going to happen. But the numbers kind of agree with Carlos Correa. I got to say here, Derek, as much as even I as someone who's never been a big Yankee fan, I will acknowledge that Derek Jeter has contributed a lot to this game in a whole lot of different ways. Absolutely. But his defense has always been overestimated.
Starting point is 00:31:01 We've talked about defensive runs saved on this podcast a number of times. I believe in his career, he was well into the negatives, like well into the negatives for his career as a shortstop. And that's not to say he didn't have big moments here and there, right? We've all seen highlights of Derek Jeter where he did genuinely impressive things. But a lot of times the most impressive short stops are the ones who kind of make it look easy, the ones who get to balls that other guys just can't even get to you in the first place. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:31:29 And Derek Jeter, at least the numbers say that he wasn't really that type of a guy. So Carlos Correa is probably right. That's what I don't know why he's saying this kind of stuff. Yeah. Why are you? What are you doing? Yeah. He's not helping his market.
Starting point is 00:31:44 No, not helping his market or his market ability. But I will say like, Jeter was known for his throws across the field, right? Yeah. Yeah. He had the arm. Yeah. just getting to the ball. A lot of times he didn't even get in the neighborhood of the ball for it to warrant it
Starting point is 00:32:01 being an error. So he didn't have a lot of errors. Again, had a high fielding percentage, which I know you kind of hate as a stat because it really doesn't, it just doesn't do anything to actually portray whether or not this person is a good defender, right? All it means is that they didn't get a lot of errors.
Starting point is 00:32:23 and errors don't really mean that you're a bad fielder as much as other stats. Like, you know, like you showed me, defensive runs saved, I feel like is such a good stat that really gives a good description of what's going on in certain areas, especially for like the Diamondbacks, where, you know, again, you could sit here and debate all day long whether or not the Kittel Martian's center field experiment worked. But at the end of the day, they were 30th in defensive runs. saved at center field and 30th at second base, which just screams that it did not. Right.
Starting point is 00:32:59 Right. The number, I have the number. It's minus 165. My goodness. That's Derek Jeter, Derek Jeter's career defensive run saved at shortstop. It's really bad. Like it's, like defensive run saved is not perfect. But I mean, that number is, I mean, that is really, really bad.
Starting point is 00:33:18 For a person. That's for a person. Like, that's the Arizona Diamondbacks negative number. for the last like two seasons it feels like as a team let alone that's him as a person right i mean that's over a very long yeah he's career obviously but still yeah but still it's it's crazy it looks like evan put in the chat jeter was minus 186 in total zone runs above average and yeah right i don't know yeah i guess yeah i was going to wonder about i was wondering about that defensive run saved didn't really come along until uh until a good portion of the
Starting point is 00:33:53 way through Derek Jeter's career. So I don't know if that number even accounts for that in the first place. Sure. Or if that impacts the, in a positive way or even more negatively. Right. Right. But whatever it is, Carlos Cray is probably right. By comparison, yes, Ozzy Smith was plus 293 for his career. There it is. There you go. That's that just so you can see. Carlos Cora may be on to something.
Starting point is 00:34:18 But it doesn't matter. He's going to be booed relentlessly. No matter what jersey he wears when he plays at Yankees Stadium, even if it's a Yankee jersey. Well, I don't think they're going to, they're not going to boo him if he's They will boo him, Jesse. They will boo him. You don't think so. No. I mean, if they give him $320 million to be their shortstop, I think you're going to, you're going to,
Starting point is 00:34:41 your heart is going to soften pretty quick if you're a Yankees fan. I will. I will. Got the most prized free agent on the market. I will bet you a hot dog, Jesse. I will bet you a hot dog. You're on, is this a value, is this a value hot dog or is this a Dback dog? No, man.
Starting point is 00:34:57 No, I'll buy you a Dback dog. I'm not cheap around here, man. I make some good money now. I can afford like name brand stuff at the grocery store, believe it or not. It's incredible. Wow. Life's pretty great. Yeah.

I shut up and you accept the fact that you are a five-star man that pronounces baseball player's names right, and I don't. And I am dumb and you are smart. That's the way this works, right? So anyway, drop us a five-star review.
