Starting point is 00:00:00 Your Arizona Diamondbacks continue to beat the Royals and extra innings, winning tonight by a score of five to three. But more importantly, Corbyn Burns is back, so I'm wearing a tie for the occasion. Turn on those cactus lights. The boys won again. Feedback podcast presented by our friends at Circle K. It is your mayor of PHNX looking like an actual mayor tonight, occasionally known as Derek Montia.
Starting point is 00:00:50 This feels gross. this doesn't feel right. I was just trying to look nice for a nice, fancy fifth anniversary steak dinner we were having here as a family at PHNX. Meanwhile, Damon's wearing a T-shirt and I feel overdressed,
Starting point is 00:01:02 but he is here with me. I did make him come over here after eating cake and steak and drinking an old fashion to talk about the Diamondbacks beating the Royals by a score of five to three. That is Damon Dogg, aka Damon Farrell, on the ones and twos over there.
Starting point is 00:01:18 Bark, bark to you, Damon, even though our bellies are full and we don't really want to be doing a second podcast today. It was important to us to be here. Sometimes the mayor has to dress up a little bit. Yeah. You know?
Starting point is 00:01:29 I mean, this already feels gross. I feel like I need to start loosening this. I might be shirtless by the end of this. We'll see what happens. But this show is brought to you by the friends at over at GameTime. Proudly brought to you by GameTime. Download that GameTime app, create an account, and use our code, a PHNX for $20 off your first purchase. Terms do apply.
Starting point is 00:01:48 And yes, I'm seeing so many of you guys in here. Like Damon and myself, who were watching the Nationals blow a four to one lead in the eighth inning. And now the Padres have a five to four lead going into the ninth. And I'm so sick of that goddamn Nationals team. I can't even tell you. But what is it with the Padres and their devil magic as Benjamin puts it here in the chat? It's unbelievable. It is unbelievable.
Starting point is 00:02:13 And it's also unbelievable that, you know, again, we are lockstep with them. When we win, they win. when we lose, they lose. Doesn't make any sense. And I'm glad at least for the most part, that right now, as of this moment, the Diamondbacks have a full game lead over the Padres, which might become a half a game lead here in about 20 minutes.
Starting point is 00:02:33 But regardless, they did beat the Royals tonight. And the biggest part of this, as we talked about, on our 12 p.m. show today is that Corbyn Burns is back. And Damon, do you finally believe it? He's a real guy. He's a real guy. He exists. He exists.
Starting point is 00:02:52 And he pitched for this team today. And we should all be very thankful for it. I've seen some insane like theories about like that he's going to get hurt again and all this other stuff. Let's let's not go there. Let's not do that on day one. Can we just can we just get carbon burns back? A lot of times, believe it or not, people do come back from injuries and can be good again.
Starting point is 00:03:11 And don't necessarily get injured even though I, that's something I'll wait to see and believe with my own eyes. I mean, it's certainly always a risk. But I just feel like. that that's kind of like, that's, that's a situation where no one wants Corbyn Burns to get hurt, so you're going to be happy if he doesn't, but then if he does, what are you going to do?
Starting point is 00:03:28 Tell everybody I told you so. Yeah. And who wins? Yeah. Like you, I just don't, we all lose. Yeah, I don't really understand what the end goal is there, I guess. But I would imagine the Diamondbacks, you know, know a thing or two about rehabilitating somebody's arm.
Starting point is 00:03:44 That's probably, they have professionals that are, uh, though, I do understand with their track record. especially lately that Diamondbacks fans don't feel very confident in that, especially with what happened with Jordan Montgomery and others. AJ Puck. In this case, oh God, you didn't have to bring up AJ Puck's name. Let's just talk about Corbyn Burns being good because he was very much that tonight for this team. Corbyn Burns pitched. He did only last three innings.
Starting point is 00:04:09 So as far as, you know, as far as his length was concerned, he did have some pretty long at bats there. He did rely on his cutter, which is his best pitch tonight. He threw that 56% of the outing. And here's the good news. His max Velo tonight, Damon, was 94.9 miles per hour. Corbyn's back. He did average 92.7 miles per hour with his cutter. And he averaged 94.1 miles per hour tonight with his sinker, which he didn't throw a lot.
Starting point is 00:04:40 He only threw four times in the outing. But still, he was averaging 94 with that pitch. and overall had himself a good first inning that went by pretty quickly. He did issue a walk to the first battery he faced, which was Jansen, but he did get through that inning with 13 pitches. He had a 21 pitch second inning and a 23 pitch third inning, which resulted in him having a shorter outing than expected. They were going to be very protective over Corbyn,
Starting point is 00:05:12 and they were going to ensure that his outing did not go past 60 pitches. It was a hard stop at 60 tonight. He ended up throwing 57 pitches total. And overall, through, you know, his curb ball as his secondary pitch tonight, he had some pretty good success with that. He did get three whiffs with his cutter. He got one whiff with his curb ball, one whiff with his changeup. But overall, just a great, a great night to see Corbyn Burns return to the mound. And like we said on the earlier show today, he lines up right now to pitch in the,
Starting point is 00:05:46 I believe first game of the series with the Marlins, the final game of the series with the New York Yankees here at Chase Field. And then that very, very important series to end the season against the Padres. It looks like he would line up for game one of that series. Now, that's still to be determined. That's just me doing basic dumb guy math, but I still feel like I'm able to do that. This still doesn't feel right, Damon. I got to change this. We're not, we're not, I need a hat. I need a hat. That's better. Yeah, that feels. that feels much better. That already feels so much better. Now, Derek, now you look like you were on like the founding membership, member organization leadership team. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:28 When this team was founded. You know, like, with that fit on? Like I don't quite know how to wear a ball cap. I'm like, is this good for the picture? But you got the matching purple shirt.
Starting point is 00:06:37 Of course I do. You got the tie. The restaurant we were at tonight had a purple motif. I knew that heading in there, Damon, and I color coordinated properly. You guys think I'm just matching my outfits I'm definitely coordinating to the colors in the bar or restaurant that we're going to
Starting point is 00:06:50 to honestly this to another level you look like Jonah Hill's character in money ball and I'm and I'm like I'm like I'm thinking of you I'm thinking of you as Jerry Colangelo's second guy okay well that's fine that I like but um I mean Derek you you're a big reason why this team won a championship your assistant GM I appreciate that I appreciate that I appreciate that I'll take on that role I'll I'll ride that parade float. But overall, another weird night for these two teams facing off against each other. Corbin Burns, though, excellent in his three innings of work for this team.
Starting point is 00:07:22 And that's really all that we're looking for. Three innings, two hits allowed by Corby, Corbin, no earned runs, two walks, two strikeouts. The walks, that's a little, you know, whatever, but he's still getting his command back. That's something that we were looking at tonight. His velocity was something we were also very much
Starting point is 00:07:39 paying attention to. Both of those things look okay. The velocity looks, great. The command, that that got better as the outing went on, but again, he had himself some pretty lengthy at-bats. I think Vinny Pascantino definitely drove his pitch count up there and he, you know, ended his night there after three innings. But great to have Corbin Burns bat. Cade Stroud came in. He kind of struggled to find the strike zone himself. This is a guy that had like a sub-2 ERA as a rookie last year with the Orioles. It would be great to see him kind of figure it out at a
Starting point is 00:08:09 major league level because you still feel like he could be a major part of this bullpen. He gave the Diamondbacks an inning in two thirds tonight. He gave up one hit, two walks. But again, like I said, it seemed like he really struggled at times to find the strike zone. Couldn't get through two full innings there. Ginkle came in, gave the Diamondbacks an inning in a third with one hit allowed, no runs. Dennis Santana came in, gave up an inning, gave up one hit with three strikeouts. Very impressive, once again from Santana, who continues to look great since joining this team.
Starting point is 00:08:38 And then Johnny Lazzania with a great defensive play. in his inning of work, and he had zeros across the board. But unfortunately, the Diamondbacks with a lead late, Juan Murillo kind of blew things and caused this to go into extra innings where they brought in Blake Walston to finish the job. Offensively, this team, much like the Royals was held in check until late, the Diamondbacks did finally start to put up, get some hits together in the eighth inning where they put up their first run.
Starting point is 00:09:07 And again, this was a win that, you know, it's a five to three victory, but taking, again, until eight innings to get your offense going, doesn't bode well for this team, you know, should they make, you know, the postseason, right? One thing that does bode well for them is that typically in the playoffs, these games are close. These games are low scoring games, and that is something that the Diamondbacks have been very good in this year. They've been very patient. They know that the game is not over, and they find that time to show. strike and they did it late, started in the top of the eighth inning with the Cotel
Starting point is 00:09:45 Marte-L-Morté lead-off single, and then that was followed up by a Gabrielle Moreno single that put runners on the corners, and then Marte was brought home with a Geraldo Perdomo sackfly that gave the Diamondbacks a one-to-nothing lead, scoring the first run of this game. Nolan Aronado flew out, and then Adrian Del Castillo grounded out. It was both a good and a bad inning because they finally got their offense going and successfully manufactured that run essentially with Cotell Marte coming home on the sack fly but you know again with with a runner on they weren't able to do anything else there with with Aeronado and Del Castillo going to the ninth inning and our guy our sweet sweet timmy time timmy tow comes through with a huge home run his 10th of the season
Starting point is 00:10:35 It's a lead off home run and it gives the Diamondbacks some breathing room. And it really did feel like it was the game winner there. With how low scoring these games have been, with how yesterday went, it felt like the Diamondbacks were going to be able to close this one out in the bottom of the ninth with a two-run lead. They weren't able to add any more runs on there in that inning. But in the bottom of the ninth, like I said, they did not hold on to that lead. Nick Lofton with two outs doubled that then he was brought home. on a John Rave 2-out home run.
Starting point is 00:11:09 And if you guys were wondering who the guy in this series was going to be that pisses us off, it's John Rave. Great name, great party name. I want to hang out with a guy named John Rave. I don't want to watch him at homers off of Juan Murillo in the bottom of the ninth inning to tie the game up at two. But that's what happened. That was his fifth home run of the year.
Starting point is 00:11:30 And we go into extra innings yet again. and then even in extra innings, the diamondbacks are able to manufacture a run with Gabby Moreno starting out as the ghost runner. Pardomo lays down a sack, Bunnoe moves to third, Nolan Aranato walks, Jordan Lawler lines out,
Starting point is 00:11:47 and then Tim Towell once again, the hero that he is, singles on a grand ball to center field, and that brings in Gabrielle Marino to give the Diamondbacks a three to two lead in the top of the 10th. In the bottom of the 10th, The Diamondbacks once again gave up another run.
Starting point is 00:12:05 Carter Jensen starts out by striking out swinging. Blake Walston intentionally walks Bobby Witt. And then, by the way, a wild pitch allowed the ghost runner, Kyle Isabel, to move from second to third. So before things even started in the bottom of the 10th inning, the Royals already had a runner on third base, which sucked. And he did come home on a Vinny Pascontino sack fly that brought him home and tied the game up three and sent us into the 11th inning where the diamond backs would get a huge, huge triple from Lordeus Gurriel Jr. If you want to call it that, they officially did rule it a triple.
Starting point is 00:12:47 It's out of my hands. Again, I saw a fielding error, but Guriel brings in a huge triple that brings in the ghost runner, which is Ildomar Vargas, and puts Guriel on third base with one out. then Catelle Marte brings home Gouriel with a sack fly. That gives the Diamondbacks a 5 to 3 lead and then they were able to shut the door in the bottom of the inning with Blake Walsden
Starting point is 00:13:12 coming back out for another inning of work. That seemed important considering how taxes bullpen now is after the last two games and he's able to finally close things out. He did get John Raib to strike out in that inning so that was wonderful to see. And the Diamondbacks hold on to now be
Starting point is 00:13:30 10 games. above 500. They are 78, 68. Damon, you know what that means? Send that little Prado up Mount 500. The Diamondbacks are now 10 games above 500 for the very first time this season. Double digits.
Starting point is 00:13:56 And we still have to be looking over at our shoulder at the goddamn Padres who just won a baseball game and are now just right behind us a half a game back. And I will say that the Padres schedule is pretty easy for a stretch here while the Diamondback schedule does get a little harder, right? Both teams do have to play the Marlins coming up, but we take on the Yankees who the Padres already faced off with. And that is a Yankees team that will now feature Aaron Judge, who has returned to the lineup.
Starting point is 00:14:28 So I don't love that. You don't love that. But as far as going in the Diamondbacks favor and going against the Padres, like I said, Padres still have a series with the Dodgers that they play right before their final series of the year against the Diamondbacks. I still like our chances overall here. And again, the Diamondbacks, their fate is in their own hands. At this point, with the return of Corbyn Burns, you've got to feel a little bit better. And it's going to be very interesting to see what happens in tomorrow's game with Zach Galen and Michael Soroka possibly pulling a,
Starting point is 00:15:06 piggyback situation, which I really do hope at one point before the game that Michael Soroka does give like that Gallen of piggyback ride out like to the mound. Like I think that's how they should start the game. I think that would be adorable. But interesting to see how that works and interesting to see what the starting rotation is going to be after that. Corby and Carroll was scratched prior to today's game and that was due to lower back discomfort. You, are probably aware of Corbyn's struggles recently, and maybe perhaps some of his struggles are due to just kind of playing through some pain,
Starting point is 00:15:47 playing through some injury. Now is a great time to get him some time off to hopefully get him right so that he can help this team win some games down the stretch. You know, I mean, he obviously was getting better. I feel like when he got moved in the lineup, we were seeing some production out of him. But overall, it felt like Corby, been very much needed this day off game and we've been seeking this I think for for a long time you know
Starting point is 00:16:12 and and you know it's it's gone beyond just a small slump where I mean we're talking about a few weeks of of Corbyn struggling now yeah it does feel like Corby Carroll is like maybe battling through some things and potentially is playing through those injuries and the diamond backs obviously are comfortable enough that you know he this is all speculation by the way that he would be able to play through but it goes to like the point that people I think always have about the debacks which is that they kind of allow their stars to dictate terms like Cateel like maybe Corbyn Burns in his schedule timeline of coming back but yeah Corbin hasn't looked like himself I hope he's okay we need him back we need him back firing on all cylinders I mean that average being around 240 is just
Starting point is 00:17:01 it's not good enough for the caliber of player that he is right that I agree with also Very odd that we get one Corbin back and the other Corbin has to leave the lineup. It almost makes you think that they're the same person maybe wearing different like suits. It's like we have to, we have a certain ratio of Corbyns that we can have on this team. Have we ever seen that both Corbyn's in the same room at the same time? I'm pretty sure I have, but I'm starting to question that. Starting to question a lot of things, Damon. So the plan tomorrow is Soroka-Gallon, like both of them to pitch?
Starting point is 00:17:34 The plan would be for both guys to essentially get around this kind of outing. Because they're both right around the same amount of stretched out as, you know, as as as Corbyn Burns is. So, I mean, it would be one, one or the other starting pitching three innings and then the other one coming in and pitching another three innings. Let's mix in an opener while we're at it. Why not? Let's get crazy. How weird can we get? Do we want to win a baseball game?
Starting point is 00:18:01 Let's throw everything at the wall and see if it sticks, right? Um, they did make the roster move prior to the game for Corbyn Burns, by the way. Uh, part of that roster move was to recall Cade Stroud as an additional bullpen arm, because they needed it. Uh, and then they did option, uh, Herardo Carrillo, who's really struggled lately and Jose Carrera, who they most likely won't need now for the rest of the season, uh, down to AAA Reno. But again, the Diamondbacks now are seven and three in their last 10 road games, and they are nine and four in their last 13 interleague games.
Starting point is 00:18:33 so it's nice they've won four straight games and they have now won five of their last six it's weird 19 and four did i say 19 and four i didn't hear you properly oh nine and four nine and four last i was like oh my god we own the american league even nine and four kind of feels like we own is good yeah you know i guess i think another important part about this is being seven and three in their last 10 road games and just kind of having a good road record overall i mean they're going have to play a series on the road if they make it in the postseason. So they have to figure out a way to win and they have to, you know, again, they have to get themselves into a position of getting some games back here at Chase Field at some point. Hopefully we get to see that and have fun with all of that.
Starting point is 00:19:21 But first, they got to get there, right? So again, Cotel Marte continues to do a good job for this team. Cotel Marte now has a seven-game hitting streak. He was one for three today. With two walks and an RBI, and again, the lineup had a few guys that really delivered Lars Newbar on his birthday. Happy birthday to Lars. He continues to Damon be back. I mean, he really, and Damon is, Damon is the Lars Newbar guy. Some people were talking about it. Some people are saying Damon might have been the guy that was backing Lars Newbar and saying there's no way that this guy was going to be a 585 OPS guy for very long. Well, Lars Newbar now has a 718 OPS and things are looking considerably better for Lars and that trade overall,
Starting point is 00:20:06 especially now that the Diamondbacks have parted ways with, you know, Lars Kepler or Max Kepler, Lars Kepler, I'm combining one one person. But let's see, you got Gabby Moreno was one for five tonight. You had Tommy Troy was one for three. He made an excellent defensive play. I know he also missed one that he was jumping up at attempting to catch, but he made a what you might argue a game saving catch out there for this. team today and once again showed how athletic he can be playing even center field, which is
Starting point is 00:20:37 something we didn't think that we would see Tommy Troy play very much, right? But he was replaced by Jordan Lawler eventually. And again, just a night where nobody is going to blow you away offensively, but one guy did. One guy is the hero. One guy is the man that we wouldn't be sitting here talking about a victory about without. And that is Jimithy Tawa. So let's give credit where credit is due. Of course, Jimothy is absolutely our King Snake for tonight's game. Jimothy Tawa going three for five with a home run, some RBIs there, got two RBI, one run in, one big home run. And just, again, some very crucial hits for this team tonight.
Starting point is 00:21:22 This victory does not happen without Tim Tawa's contributions. So it's great to see Jimothy coming through for us. the way, this is a reminder that memes like this are created on this show in this live chat. So if you have no other reason to be here other than to make me create memes like Jimitit Tawa, I don't think enough people respect the fact that I put the headband on there with his little hair twirl coming out of the top of it. I think that's a detail that a lot of people miss on that meme. And I am possibly more proud of that than I am of the way that the jersey fits on this weird looking raccoon, but...
Starting point is 00:22:01 I mean, that's... What's funny about that is that you tell every single person that you know about hey, I don't think you guys realize how... I know, because that's my favorite detail about it. No one goes, hey, Derek, great job with the bandana in the front. That's hilarious. It's because you don't see it. You're just laughing
Starting point is 00:22:15 at the meme. Ha, ha, ha. Acknowledge, Derek. Appreciate the details that I put into this crap, okay? I don't just... I'm not just doing this just to do it. I'm doing it to make sure I do it right. We do it right way around here.
Starting point is 00:22:28 no AI and all me doing extensive amounts of work to somehow make a jersey and a headband fit that raccoon's stupid weird shape body. But a great night here for this team. And again, with the Padres winning a win that was absolutely needed. They needed it to keep pace. And even though none of these wins are going to determine, you know, their season, right? It's very easy to see now that a couple of losses mixed with the Padres staying high. could absolutely, you know, put the Diamondbacks in a bad position. But as you see here in the Wildcard race, we are getting closer to the Cubs and the Phillies. And, I mean, that is a byproduct of the fact that we're just paying attention to the fight that we are currently in with the San Diego Padres.
Starting point is 00:23:17 But when you look beyond this, Damon, it's over. It's a wrap. Pittsburgh, you're done. Miami, you're done. St. Louis, you are all, it's a wrap. Thank you, fan. Thank you fans because your season is over. And it's now down to just these four teams.
Starting point is 00:23:35 I'm not going to even talk about teams that are five and a half games back. I refuse to. And knock on wood, because that seems like I'm taunting them the same way. Man, this is so scary. Yeah, it's not great. But all right, so you got the Phillies now are three and a half games up on the Diamondbacks.
Starting point is 00:23:49 The Cubs three games up. And the Diamondbacks currently at 78 and 68 sitting in the final wildcard spot with the Padres just a half game back. I'm horrified. You should be. I say the craziest things on this show is if they don't impact like the actual world. And we all know they do. We know the things that I write on Twitter and the things that I write or say on this show absolutely impact real life baseball teams.
Starting point is 00:24:16 I just want to make the playoffs so bad, Derek. And we've been so close the last couple of years. I think that's it. After going to a World Series. You're not wrong. We felt the taste of what it's like to win in the playoff. and I just, I'm like addicted to it now. I'm a drug addict.
Starting point is 00:24:34 And the drug that I'm addicted to is winning playoff baseball games. And so just get me into the dance. Someone said it up here. Let's see who it was. Yeah. Brandon Walker said L.A. Dodgers 3C, Diamondback, six seed three game series in L.A. for the playoffs. I've never been more up for anything in my entire.
Starting point is 00:25:00 life. I'm willing to give everything that I have for the team. You sound like an adist. And for the organization in that standpoint. I'm concerned about you. But God damn it, Derek. If I have to see those losers from San Diego and their awesome ballpark and their cool colors and fan support in the playoffs, I'll be sick. I know. Yeah, you're right. I'll be sick too. I'm tired of the Padre is stealing our thunder. Like, and I just die already. Just die already. I'm tired of playing the podres. Not like literally, but like as a team, like the Giants just, you know, they got eliminated
Starting point is 00:25:37 today. Die like that. But you know what? Someone brought it up. The Giants are playing good baseball right now. Like Raphael Devers is like out of his mind suddenly out of nowhere. So at least that team is behind us. And that is one of the teams the Padres still have to play. I know on paper there's still not a good team.
Starting point is 00:25:54 I know that. But God damn it, if there's anything that giants would want to play for more at this point, you mean to tell me it's not ruining the Padres playoff chances? I mean, they're not going to do any favors for us. I can just feel. I know they're not going to do any favors for us. No, but I'm saying like, they don't consider,
Starting point is 00:26:12 they're not thinking about us. This is just a personal vendetta against the other teams in the National League West that they do think about because you know that California teams don't care about us. They don't care about the Rockies. They don't think about us. They don't draper us, right? But they meanwhile hate the Padres and the Dodgers so much.
Starting point is 00:26:30 and you know they want to mess up their season so bad just to give them something to hang their hat on before they wrap up 2026. Let's hope that's the case. Let's hope that that Giants team can do it, right? I mean, it was more of just like the pessimist in me, Derek, thinking that there's no way that giants are going to do anything that benefits the diamond backs. I felt that about that. I was like, come on, Nationals just win a game, right? I mean, when you watch, when you, when you're watching. the Braves and Mets play Patty Cake on the field
Starting point is 00:27:05 in the middle of a Major League Baseball game to ensure that we didn't make the playoffs. All of a sudden, I just think that like everything's off the table. Oh, I don't think the Padres and Giants are going to be playing Patty Cake so that the Giants make, or Padres make the playoffs. But I will say that when you talk about that. I'm not saying that that exact scenario is going to happen. I'm saying that now all of a sudden anything's on the table.
Starting point is 00:27:26 I would show that clip of the Braves and the Mets hugging from last year to this team, to this locker room, in the clubhouse. I would show it to them every single day, Damon, every single day. I would be like, all right, everybody's here.
Starting point is 00:27:42 We're about to start a team meeting. All right, I'm going to play the clip again. Everybody shut the hell up. Everybody watch the clip. And soak it in. Soak it in, boys. Just watch them hug. Watch two division rivals hug
Starting point is 00:27:54 as they work together to keep us out of the playoffs. Do you want to be in this position again? Do you want to leave your fate up to some other team? Or do you want to win some baseball games and then go into San Diego at the end of the year and kick their mother F&A's and beat them to go into the postseason? Very clean. Child friendly.
Starting point is 00:28:16 His kids are watching. Jose's kids are watching. He's always watching. Okay. But anyway, that's the most motivation that I'm going to muster up because I had myself a lot of dessert and I'm kind of tired of looking at myself in this tie. I feel like I want to go take something over or ruin someone's life while wearing this tie for some reason. So what do you think the plan is for Corbyn Burns now?
Starting point is 00:28:36 Four innings next outing, five innings the out of that. I think it's still based on pitch counts, right? So it's based on how officially I'm saying. Right. So, you know, he's probably going to be up to 70, you know, on his next outing. I would think that would be probably pretty safe to say beyond that. You know, then we're starting to talk about him being close to fully stretched out. I mean, I don't know if it's going to go in increments of 10.
Starting point is 00:28:59 but it'll probably be something more like 70 and then 85, and then let her rip by the time he is pitching in that final game of the regular season against the Padres, if that's the way things end up lining up. So, and I mean that that bodes very well for this team because that means that that one more outing where he might not be able to give them very much length would be against the Marlins,
Starting point is 00:29:20 and then the next outing where he's almost at 100% would be against the Yankees. And I mean, you know, when you talk about judge returning and how good that Yankees team is and how they are still in a fight, you know, for their playoff spot. That's not going to be an easy series, you know, so. But again, it's going to be a good test before the end of the year. And this is the kind of thing that will galvanize your clubhouse if you're able to have a good showing against some of the better teams in baseball before you get into the postseason.
Starting point is 00:29:51 And then you're perhaps getting hot at the perfect time, right? That's what that's what this Diamondbacks team still has yet to do. I think all season long is really truly get hot and go on a run. And now it would be a great time for it, considering that Tori was discussing that this team still, you know, hasn't hit its full stride this entire season. And I think that's safe to say, considering how many pieces of this team they've been missing up to this point. Tomorrow they get back two very important pieces. And let's remember, they don't need both Gallin and Soroka, right? They have four other pitchers.
Starting point is 00:30:24 So now they have six in their rotation with both of those guys returning. It's good to have some length, and it's good to be able to ease those guys in together in a piggyback situation so that they can perhaps save some of their bullpen arms. But, you know, again, it's still like more about Soroka and what he's going to be able to do for this team. And then Zach Gallen can help us out, then great. But that's probably more for Zach's own good right now at this point than the Diamondbacks need of Zach Gallen. Safe to say, you know, like they could probably part ways pretty quickly with Gallen. if he doesn't if he struggles and i think the team will still be fine but gallon won't be yeah i mean
Starting point is 00:31:05 it's like gino getting cut by the reds you know at the end of the season yeah it's a it's a small enough amount of money that it's not a big deal if you want the roster spot open you're going to pay him the money anyways right so i mean i don't i'm not i'm not i'm not holding out any hope for zach allen in a diamond back's uniform he's he made me buy in too many times times. I know. The last like two years. Shame on you.
Starting point is 00:31:31 Fool me once. Can't get fooled again. Pull me twice. Can't get fooled again. I don't know. The last two years have just been difficult. You know, like I keep buying in thinking,
Starting point is 00:31:38 you know what? This is the real Zach Gowan contract year. He's going to be back. Oh, things just didn't go well for him last year. And then he gets worse and worse and worse and worse. Yeah. So,
Starting point is 00:31:51 So, Siroka, I think, you know, clearly could help this team. So let's get Michael Soroka back and hope Merrill Kelly can continue to kind of trend up a little bit as well. This pitching staff really doesn't look that bad right now. I'm way more concerned about the lack of offense. Tara in the chat says,
Starting point is 00:32:07 you think Blake Walston showed something? Maybe. Yeah. I mean, it wasn't great. It wasn't perfect. But Blake Walston went into the most high leverage of innings in this game. And he ended up delivering in the bottom of the 11th.
Starting point is 00:32:20 So I think that is a huge step forward. Yeah. His second inning was pretty good. Yeah. His first inning wasn't so great, but second inning went out there, buckled in, and I think you like to see someone work through the adversity like that. And plus, he was fired the F up. Yeah, he was. If you look at the thumbnail today, Gabby is literally like ear to ear grinning because Blake Walson is yelling and screaming coming off the field. Damon wanted to use it the thumbnail. I forbid it. I was like, you are not putting Blake Walsden on the thumbnail. Absolutely not.
Starting point is 00:32:53 Derek makes no decisions around here. He thinks he does. I like to pretend that he is. I do. I hit my, I slam my fist on the desk and then David still does whatever he wants anyway. Daniel Gamboa in the chat says Derek looks like my DWI public defender. Damon, would you throw me up on the, let's do a blame game real fast just so that let's see how I look up on there. I know, but I just want to see how I look on the billboard because AZ Catch G is bringing up how long. He'll be able to see Derek on the side of the city bus. Derek Law. That's a good one, right?
Starting point is 00:33:29 That's Derek law? Come on. That's electric. All right. Get me down off here. I don't like I. Honestly, it's a pretty like fire music theme too for like a law commercial.
Starting point is 00:33:39 Derek Monta. Derek Monta. He'll fight for you. He'll fight for you. Oh, now we're now we're no. That's that that's that's someone else's territory. All right. Let's see if Mark and Alexis will hire you though as a part of the that the legal team.
Starting point is 00:33:52 I can bring a very amount, a limited amount of experience to their hundreds of years of of experience that that law permits. Somebody said that you look like, yeah, Jordan said that you look like you're now member of the husband and wife law team. That's what I'm applying for. That's what I'm applying for. I hate this tie. I hate wearing ties. I don't like this at all, Damon.
Starting point is 00:34:10 I don't like this at all. We got to wrap this show up before I ripped this shirt off. But cool, bro. Thank you for your super chat. He says, I need a law versus judge AB in the Yankees series. Hell yeah. We need that. I mean,
Starting point is 00:34:21 that's going to go viral. We got to jump all over that the minute that happens, right? As long as it doesn't go over the fence. I'm fine with it. Yeah. Coach Henry says sometimes I tune in and Derek is tarps off. Sometimes he's rocking a tie. That's the, that's the duality that you're going to get. The duality of man. Yeah, from this show. And I mean, in this case, let me go ahead and tighten this bad boy up, Damon, because we might in fact be back. And I'm not resisting the masculine urge to say that. I do that. So there we go. Thank you guys so much for joining us for this predetermined, pre-planned emergency podcast. We knew we were going to do it because,
Starting point is 00:34:57 how could we not talk about Corbyn Burns coming back? And for all intents and purposes, he looked great. I mean, I know it wasn't as long as most of us would have liked. I think four innings probably would have made everybody feel just a little bit better. But what should make you feel great is Corbin Burns touching 95 miles per hour. Coming that close to it, I'll tell you, we're back, he's back, and things look good for this team down the stretch. Pitching-wise, hopefully their offense can figure some things out
Starting point is 00:35:23 because, you know, they can't keep having these seven, an eight, nine-inning scoreless games and expect to keep winning baseball games. But we love you guys so much for your time. Make sure to drop a like in the chat before you get out of here. There's like 100 of you in there and only 29 likes. I'm going to shame you for that. And my ego needs it. But make sure to join us.
Starting point is 00:35:43 We'll be back with another postgame show tomorrow after the finale between the Royals and the Diamondbacks. Let's hope that one doesn't go as late as this one. And I can't believe I just said that because now it just doomed us to like a five-hour baseball game. But until then, make sure to follow us on social. I'm at cap underscore caveman with a K. Damon is at Damon Dog with a DAWG, and this still doesn't work.
Starting point is 00:36:05 Bark, bark. Our show is at PH&X underscore D-backs, but all roads do lead to at pH and X underscore sports on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. And the legend AZ Katz G gets a super chat in at the buzzer like he always does. Says if he wants to work with the husband and wife law teams, he needs to get suspenders. So fair. Suspenders would look electric with this, wouldn't they? I'm surprised you weren't wearing suspenders. I might have to get some.
Starting point is 00:36:30 Derek, you should have teal suspenders. Oh, I need some teal suspenders to go with it. Maybe then my daughter wouldn't tell me that my shoes look ugly and I need to change them like she did before. I was trying to wear my nikes that are purple. My daughter looked at me and said, absolutely not. Put on some fancy shoes. You look like a bum is what she said.
Starting point is 00:36:48 But you know who didn't look like a bum? Corbyn Burns and the Diamondbacks tonight. They win five to three. We love you guys. AZ Cool G says top Derek law. Appreciate you for your super chat, sir. Love you guys. Thank all of you for being here.
Starting point is 00:37:00 We'll be back again tomorrow. Until then, Ryan says, Ryan Hanley says, a monocle is what I need. And I don't hate that idea. I do, speaking of monocles, want to give a shout out to a acquaintance of mine, a fellow pro wrestling legend himself and someone who unfortunately passed away far too early. Andy Williams, rest in peace. We will miss you. You are one of the most beloved people in the pro wrestling world,
Starting point is 00:37:31 and your time came to an end far too, far too soon. So rest and peace, my guy. But we will be back, like I said, tomorrow. Until then, love you guys. Appreciate you. And remember, kids, baseball is fun, but it's so much more fun when Corbyn Burns is a real person, and he pitched on the mound for your team tonight.
