Starting point is 00:00:00 The Arizona Diamondback celebrated Corbyn Carroll's 26th birthday in the best possible way by beating the tar out of the Reds and winning this game 9 to nothing. We have more on Erod's Big Night, Carol celebrating his birthday with the win, and Jordan Lawler finally mashing some baseballs. Plus, where was Catell during the team's 9-0 blowout victory? We're talking about all of it right now, but more importantly, turn on those cactus lights. We're going live. really establishing themselves as in fact being back,
Starting point is 00:01:06 despite rumors that it was over. My name is Derek Montia, occasionally is the mayor of the HNX. thrilled to have you guys here and thrilled to be talking about another Diamondbacks victory. Of course, I'm not alone. I have you wonderful people in the live chat with me. Love to see all of those very, very, very familiar names,
Starting point is 00:01:23 celebrating this win. I'm also joined by my guy, my dog, your dog, the DeBacks dog, Damon Dog, on the ones and twos. Damon, this one's, big win. They got a big win for Corby's birthday, beating the Reds 9 to nothing. They improved the 68 and 61. Hold on one second before we do that.
Starting point is 00:01:41 We've got to let you guys know that the PHNXDbacks podcast is brought to you by Game Time. Go download the GameTime app right now. Use our code of PHNX when you sign up, get yourself $20 off your first purchase. But Damon, you know what time it is. They are 68 and 61.
Starting point is 00:01:57 Set Little Perdomo up that mountain. I'll bet you that the Diamondbacks had a fun night tonight. That's not a good joke. That's bad. That's in poor taste. But there is news. Before we talk about tonight's blowout victory and Corbyn's birthday and all the good, we do have to talk about breaking news.
Starting point is 00:02:25 I guess you could say something I found out about during tonight's game and then proceeded to actually see it come to life by somebody posting a picture of Cotel Marte tonight out at a casino gambling. while his team was beating up on the Reds and winning by a score of 9 to nothing. We got a lot of Cotell Marte updates today involving his, you know, basically his recovery, the meeting that he had with Tori and everything that kind of has come to light. It almost sounds a little bit like, you know, they're being open about this and,
Starting point is 00:03:05 and again, being trying to fix this relationship. between Marte and the organization. However, whatever your feelings are on Marte and whatever your feelings are about this whole situation, it's not the best optics for Ketel to be going through everything that he's gone through over the last four or five days. And now to be in a casino here in town, you know, on a Friday night where there's zero chance that he's not going to get recognized and, you know, seen out there. and it's the only damper that could possibly be put on a victory like this that the Diamondbacks had,
Starting point is 00:03:42 a victory where they beat the Reds in every conceivable way. Pitching dominated the Reds, the offense exploded for nine runs, and there was nothing but joy and happiness in that clubhouse after tonight's game. It really did feel like the kind of victory the Diamondbacks needed to move past this situation, and while everything did feel like it was kind of healing, now we get this situation with Catelle. I'm going to be honest. I know I've defended Cotel Marte throughout this whole situation.
Starting point is 00:04:12 And I'll be the first one to say that this is a bad look. But I'll also say that like, I mean, Cotell was at Salt River Fields today rehabbing. Salt River Fields is where he spent, you know, it's going to spend a lot of time over these next 10 days. And right across the street was a casino. And when you're a millionaire with lots of money, sometimes that's just what you.
Starting point is 00:04:32 you go do. Tori was asked about it after the game. I felt, I'm going to be honest, I felt like this was a little unfair. I don't know if we were, knew if we would get an answer from Tori, but I personally was 99% sure that Tori knew nothing about this, considering that he had just left the field for managing a game, went to this clubhouse to celebrate with his players, and then came in to talk to us about the outcome of the game. But Tori did do a good job of handling this and answering these questions. Here is what Tori had to say. about Catelle Marte being seen tonight in a casino. He was there at Salt River doing everything he was supposed to do.
Starting point is 00:05:10 When you're turned loose from the medical team over there, you're allowed to go home and have an evening with your family. So he's free to do whatever he wants. That's how I look at it. As long as he wakes up tomorrow morning and posts and gets his work done at Salt River, which I am certain he will, that's all it matters to me right now. Our guy Ernesto in the chat says it'll be funny when you go to the gambling ad right after this. I'm not judging gambling, first of all,
Starting point is 00:05:34 nor am I in trouble. I showed up for work, so let's get that clear, okay? In fact, Damon and I worked a double on the day that Kattel didn't show up. So don't put this on us. We've worked extra hard because of this situation, but I will say that again. You know, Tori's right, Damon, don't you agree?
Starting point is 00:05:53 I mean, I would like to get your thoughts on this because I know, you know, overall, this is kind of a all over the place situation. I, like, I knew when I heard about this that this was going to be something that fans would be upset about. I knew that it was a very bad look. And then there was also a part of me that says, well, when they're on the injured list, they do kind of have their time to themselves. So I guess you can't really, you know, dictate what they do. This is just more of a, I guess, a bad, like I said, bad optics on this situation,
Starting point is 00:06:24 considering what's just gone down with the Diamondbacks over the last four days. I'll tell you who it doesn't help. everybody that's not Catele Marte because it makes it harder on Tori. It makes it harder on the rest of the players. It adds pressure to the situation. So I think it's just another iteration of Cotel being a little bit selfish to be honest with you when it comes to this entire thing. And, you know, Derek, I should grab this for the show.
Starting point is 00:06:52 Kevin Ginkled didn't mince his words. No. When you were talking to him earlier today. And I mean, honestly. You think he's speaking. It's just him on a. soapbox and the rest of the 24 on the roster that aren't Catell and aren't Kevin Ginkle, they're all cool with it.
Starting point is 00:07:06 But Kevin Ginkle is the one guy who's upset about it. I don't think that's the case at all. I think Kevin Ginkle is one of the more established veterans on the roster. And, you know, if it wasn't him saying it and he was still on the team, it'd be Paul Seawald saying it. You know what I mean? Because that's what the veterans who are the highest level professionals on this team, like they expect that out of the better players and the leaders.
Starting point is 00:07:29 that you're going to be able to communicate and tell the team, hey, I'm not showing up today. And I think that that rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. And I just think that Ketel's lack of self-awareness overall in the entire situation is pretty concerning. That's true. Especially after last year.
Starting point is 00:07:46 Nate's right. Nate says if it was an IL stint, that's a different story. Had Ketel handled this whole situation differently, there's a good chance that all we would have thought this was, was an IL stint. It did sound like Ketel got upset by, putting, um, by being put on the restricted list. Like he wasn't communicated that, it seems like, and he didn't know why he was being put on
Starting point is 00:08:08 the restricted list, even though he wasn't showing up to the ballpark. Yeah, that's, I mean, that's, that's, that's just very rich. I feel like coming from the guy who's supposedly not telling people why he's not coming to the ballpark. But it's taking a step back to Kevin Ginkle. The thing I took away from Kevin Ginkle was, I didn't feel like Ginkle was mad. But I feel like Ginkle was mad. But I feel like he didn't, it almost felt like Kevin didn't think that his, like, thoughts on it was controversial.
Starting point is 00:08:35 I feel like he just thought he was saying what everybody else was saying. And meanwhile, everybody else was just more focused on the team. Even Ryan Walshmet gave a fantastic answer when asked about Catell, considering he's a rookie, hasn't played with Cotel very long and has not, you know, doesn't really, shouldn't really be asked about this, you know. But even though he was asked, he kind of handled it by talking about the team going out there and pressing on than the 26 men that are here, you know, being good enough to win ball games and, you know, get the job done.
Starting point is 00:09:04 It was a very Tory answer. It was a very Tory answer, but it's kind of the truth. Like, when you are a player, it's like I said, the only way you can think of this is as an injury, right? No different than an injury, but different than an injury. In the sense that you harbor ill feelings a little bit towards that guy, considering you think of it maybe more as a choice than rather an injury. But there is an injury involved.
Starting point is 00:09:28 it's not like Catelle's MRI did not show some damage. Now we do have more from Tori before the game in regards to. I want to talk about Kevin Ginkl a little bit more. Oh, sorry. You said that you didn't think that he seemed like he was angry. I do think he sounded very disappointed. That, yes, that yes. Very disappointed.
Starting point is 00:09:45 Because he, I just think like, because like we didn't get an answer like Kevin's from anybody else, right? Like you said, it wasn't just Kevin and Catell and everybody else is cool with it, right? But it was like Ginkle was almost voicing what the true opinion. of the clubhouse was. In a way where he was saying it just so frankly, not like, I don't think he was saying or I don't think he thought he was saying anything
Starting point is 00:10:07 that was like earth shattering or different from what his teammates were probably saying. However, his teammates were more in some cases like, I don't want to comment on this. Or in Gabby's case, Gabby just was like, can tell he'll be back. We're going to be fine. Like Gabby,
Starting point is 00:10:22 Gabby kind of wanted to really like play down the situation. We're in a playoff chase. Yeah, he, Gabby was very, yeah, I do hear that. And I think Gabby's protecting Catelle a little bit. And I hear, I actually agree with everything that you said about Ryan Walshmidt. It probably is a little bit unfair to ask him that question. And I do think his response is a good one from a player that's a rookie and that, you know, isn't as established in Major League Baseball.
Starting point is 00:10:46 For sure. Whereas Kevin Ginkle, who's been on this team and in this organization for a long time, feels like he's earned the right to say a little bit more. And that's where I, again, like I think that I, I, you said it. it's not like we're disagreeing here. But I think Kevin Ginkle's sentiment was more the true feelings of the, of the roster. I agree. Whereas Ryan Waldschmidt is is trying to pour water on the fire and be like, why am I going to add anything to it?
Starting point is 00:11:14 And Kevin Ginkle is just being honest. Waldy's also just a nice kid. And I don't think he was trying to. He's not going to be the guy that calls out Catell. He literally said like as a rookie Cattel has been nice to me, asked me if I needed anything, taking care of me. so he has nothing but good things to say about Cotel. I just think it's on Jerry.
Starting point is 00:11:31 It's on Ginkle. It's on Merrill. And, you know, those guys are going to be the ones that need to hold Cotel accountable, obviously. Nolan Aronado, not Ryan Walshman and, you know, Jorge Barroso. Like, that's not going to be the guys that you expect to maybe make more, you know, kind of chilling statements about this entire situation like Ginkle did, which I will grab for us. Really what it comes down to is that.
Starting point is 00:11:58 Tori Lavallo is the kind of manager that you can trust as a player to have your back. That's what makes this so outrageous to me. Because if you would have come to Tori and, you know, in the front office or come to this team. But the problem is is that it seems like Kattel was mad at the team and mad at Tori. And it seems like it stemmed from his knee injury and not getting a day off. And the team needing him due to Nolan Arnato being injured and all of it just coming to a head. Right. There's also reports from other people about Ketel being up.
Starting point is 00:12:28 you know, drinking the night before and other things like that, obviously Gambo put that out there. But really what it comes down to is what we are being told. And that's all that we truly know is what we're being told. But that's still unacceptable. I don't really understand this. Oh, it's more. No, let me say this. This is more unacceptable than if there was an actual reason to miss time.
Starting point is 00:12:48 This, if this is because Kattel wanted a day off and wasn't getting it. So he just decided to stay at the hotel. that's probably the worst explanation that we could have gotten about this situation. If it was anything, a personal matter that he had to take care of, or that's too personal to share with us, I think they would have told us that, and Tori would have definitely worded things differently before the game today. He discussed the meeting with Catelle. He discussed everything. We have video of that.
Starting point is 00:13:15 Here's Tory talking about first how that meeting went and what was what he can share about that meeting. I'll get out ahead of this a little bit with regards to the Cotel Martez's, Yes, there was a sit down yesterday with Mike, myself, and his agent and Ketel. I thought it was a very productive meeting, and that's as far as I want to go with that. Ketel will begin his rehab process over at Salt River Field starting today, and my hope is to get one of our best players back on the field in 11 days to help us in the final push for 20. plus games. It was, you know, clearly a meeting that was well documented and we covered a lot of ground. We were able to, you know, say things that we needed to say to one another and we are going to turn the page on this as quickly as possible and get Ketel back in a healthy frame of mine from
Starting point is 00:14:16 a physical standpoint and allow him to go out and help us win baseball games here in Arizona as soon as possible. It's such a weird situation, isn't it? Isn't this whole thing just odd? It's the weirdest situation I've ever seen. I can't think of anything like it in all of sports, especially Derek, if it really is and just comes down to him feeling like I needed a rest day. And you guys didn't adhere to that.
Starting point is 00:14:43 And so I'm just not going to show up to the ballpark. And then we're going to let this become the biggest domino effect story in all of baseball outside of what the frauders. have going on, which is, that's classic. It's always Dodgers cheating number one story and everybody else fighting for what the number two story is. And unfortunately, we're the number two story in baseball right now. Isn't it great that we're the number two story in baseball right now? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:09 And so it's just, I just want to see a little bit more professionalism out of Cattel. Like, we were very big supporters of keeping Cattel all offseason me and you, Derek. And so we bang the drum for it. For sure. And I think that people that were trying to. say like, I don't want to deal with this anymore. I don't want another situation like last year. They look pretty golden right now.
Starting point is 00:15:30 And, you know, the whole time, all I was saying was, yes, I think that Catelle needs to be way more professional than that. And I trust this organization to get him into that place. Maybe I was wrong there. But I do think that like the ceiling of the diamond backs is drastically worse. If it's Catelle versus even, you know, another second baseman in the off season. if you regroup, I just think Catelle has a, you know, he's such a superstar type of hitter that can carry you in the biggest games.
Starting point is 00:16:02 And so, yeah, I don't want to move off Cattel. Maybe he forces their hand or there was, you know, some sort of handshake agreement here at this meeting of like play out the rest of the year and then we'll do what we can in the off season to get you to where you would rather be. But I just, I want to keep Catell and I want him to act like he wants to be a part of a baseball team that is, you know, making a playoff push right now. No, 100%. Because it's not about, oh, you know, my knees kind of bothering me.
Starting point is 00:16:30 It's like, well, if Nolan Aronado's out and we need you in the lineup today, we need you in the lineup today. And I just need him to trust Tori Lavolo in Mike Hazen that they're not trying to screw him over because they're not. They're definitely not trying to screw Ketel over. And I feel like with a situation like this, if that's really what it is, it's Ketel thinking that he's being screwed over right now, which is just. I feel like that couldn't be further from the truth.
Starting point is 00:16:55 I had something happened to me this week that I'm not going to get into, but I will say that there comes a time where you start to feel like everybody is against you when you get yourself into certain situations. And I think that might have been, and that's what happened to me. I mean, I got to a point where I'm like, I'm still right now mad at people that logically in my head I know I shouldn't be mad at, but that doesn't change the fact that I'm still mad at them. I'm not on your side. No, no, no, no, you are 100% on my side.
Starting point is 00:17:22 my dog, you're the one I confided in about this. No, no. I'm on the other side. Meanwhile, oh, no, all those other people, they're dead to me, Damon. They're dead to me. And I know logically that, again, it's not, it's not their fault, but sometimes in life you feel like you are cornered and like everybody else is against you. Our guy Bernie tonight asked Tori a great question, an amazing question pregame, that literally brought Tori's press conference to a halt. And I think it's an important one. The question he asked is, does Kattel have a support group? And I mean, I think that many of us, when we think
Starting point is 00:17:57 about that, are lucky enough to answer that question with yes, right? You might take a second to think of who your support group is, but he was asked outside of teammates and outside of his agent, who is his support group? And Tori didn't really have an answer for that. Here's what Tori had to say. Other than his teammates and his agent, do you think he has a support? group. Do you get any sense of that? I don't know that answer. That's a good question, Bernie. I don't know. I've asked them the same question. So I don't know what that answer is. Everybody needs that. Everybody does. I have people in this room that support me and love me and care for me and text me out of nowhere in times of need. I run to people for help and assistance
Starting point is 00:18:53 when things aren't going good, I think everybody needs that. So I don't know if he has that or not, but he's loved and he's cared for, and I know he knows that. He was talking about me, by the way, when he was talking about people in this room love him and support him. That's who he was talking about.
Starting point is 00:19:09 And he was also talking about Damon, even though Damon wasn't there, because, you know, the Sunday night dinners thing that we do. That's actually what Tori tells us every time before we sit down and break bread. Yeah. Tori looks at us both in the eyes and he says, you guys are loved and you guys aren't cared for.
Starting point is 00:19:23 I mean, and it really, it actually, it's, it's more motivating than you might think. It's kind of wild. I don't know if you knew this, but Megaran has a song called I'm lovable and capable. Tori actually wrote the lyrics for that song. It's a collaboration. It's kind of like a ghostwriter situation, though. He didn't get credit for it. Meanwhile, though, here, we, we do have something.
Starting point is 00:19:43 I mean, there is something to be said about that, right? I think that, you know, I know for a fact that Kattel does have a group of friends and family that he's very close with. In fact, those guys are at Chase Field quite a bit, you know, but I don't know them personally and I don't know how supportive they are. I know that sometimes when you're a big star, sometimes the people around you are more about, you know, what you can do for them rather than what they can do for you to help you stay grounded and to help you stay, you know, locked in as far as what the ultimate prize is, what the ultimate goal is. I mean, Marte obviously has gone through a lot.
Starting point is 00:20:22 think that, you know, there is some pieces to look back on the scrubbing of his IG, which Tori said today he didn't believe was connected to this. However, it's hard to feel like it isn't some sort of connection, considering that the news coming out seems to be that Marte is upset with the organization and, you know, upset about a few things. So, but we have, I think, some more, do we have the other one from Tori, Damon? I think we have, well, the one, okay, So Tori was asked by our guy Jack Summers about, you know, just in general, the days off situation, right? Like, Cattel has commented in the past that one of the reasons why he wanted to stay here was because of Tori knowing when he needed a day off almost psychically, right? Like they were so linked and they were so, you know, in step that he felt like when when he needed a day off, Tori knew it.
Starting point is 00:21:18 And basically, Tori was asked if he feels like that has been disconnected, that feeling. And here's what Tori had to say. You know, I love Catal Marte. My relationship with him is not going to change. And, you know, I consider him, you know, one of 26 players that I have to manage. And, you know, at times everybody has their own set of challenges and things have their own personality. but I need to probably communicate a little bit better at all times inside of my personal life and professional life and sometimes I fall short. So maybe there's a connection there with me lacking communication and stepping out and understanding him in this situation.
Starting point is 00:22:02 And that might have added to the frustration a little bit. But overall, we can all be better in every single area. Kattel has been busting hard. He's played a lot of baseball games this year. So if you go back and look at this full body of work, he's gotten after it. And, you know, I think he got tired and got frustrated by a few things that I want to keep personal. And we're going to work through that. Overall, it feels like Celle Marte is going to be back with this team in 10 days.
Starting point is 00:22:32 And there was a lot of questions about how that meeting is going to go with his teammates, what those discussions are going to be like and how willing they are going to be to accept him back in that clubhouse. And I think for the most part, you know, this is difficult. It's going to be difficult to get through and get past, but I think they will get past it. So overall, I just think that, you know, this is now being described as an annual event by Catele-Marty. And while I think it's a bit premature to call it that, I do think that he's disappointed all of us.
Starting point is 00:23:07 And there's nobody he's probably disappointed more than the 26 guys that are in that clubhouse right now. And Kevin Ginkle was probably the only one brave enough to air his true feelings about it. But like we said, feelings that are probably, you know, similar to many of his teammates in that same room. But being at a casino tonight is dumb. And I love Catele-Marté. I love Cotel-Marte more than Tori loves him. I would have an argument with him about who loves him actually more. But I'll tell you, one thing that makes me love him less is a bonehead move like this. And that's all you can call it. It's not egregious.
Starting point is 00:23:47 It's not as egregious as people think, I don't believe. But it's not morally reprehensible. We're like, no one's sitting here being like, how could you be gambling? Katel. I've told the story on this podcast before. My friends in Vegas have played craps with Katel Marta. Yes. Like, and walk up to him and dapt him up, tried to be like, oh, I'm a D-Backs fan.
Starting point is 00:24:08 Catel wasn't really having it. Don't do that. Say you're a Dominican Republic fan and he'll have you. Good tell wasn't really having it. But, you know, like, it's not, no one is upset about Catel gambling. People are just upset that the spotlight is on him. And the whole, like, team is trying to win baseball games despite the distraction that he has brought to the table.
Starting point is 00:24:32 And his response to that is, what if I went out to the casino tonight? night in Scottsdale and everybody won myself $1,400. Got a, got a good, yeah, got a good look at me at the high, high, you know, high rise tables. Yeah, because it's Friday night. There's like, like I said, this isn't even a Tuesday. Everyone knows. Everybody. You can take one great look at Catell and say, that's a professional baseball player.
Starting point is 00:24:59 One look at him. People that don't even know him know he's professional baseball player. It's like, it's like when a basketball player is around you, you're like, I don't know who that guy. is. I don't know what team he plays for, but I can guarantee you that that guy's a basketball player right there. And yeah, most of the time you're going to be right because they are hard to miss in public. But, oh, man, just go home and play video games and hang out for the next 10 days. Is that so much? Just go home and hang out and stop making this more difficult on this organization and more of a goddamn embarrassment on this organization. Please, please. Stop making me and Damon look so bad for defending you. God.
Starting point is 00:25:37 Sean, I just don't think that anyone's thinking much of anything if he's at home tonight. I think people are like, yeah, he's recovering from an injury. He's probably spending time with his family. Yeah, no. In a time where he's going through a lot of turmoil. I do agree. Someone said he could walk around the block and it would be a story. And like, that's not not true.
Starting point is 00:25:57 But again, he went to one of the most easily recognizable places in all of town tonight. Yeah. That was his response. That's crazy. Yeah. Yeah. I'm going to go hang out in Old Town. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:10 I'm going to go walk around where all the clubs are at. We're bottled blonde and, you know, high-fi is. Yeah. No one will recognize me over there. That's crazy talk. I just can't believe he did that. I know. I know. Anyway, we're moving on.
Starting point is 00:26:25 Tori's cool with it. We're cool with it. We're moving on. We're going to talk more about the win. That's what we're going to talk about. See, once again, you can tell Marte is overshadowing the 9-to-0 victory over the Cincinnati Reds. And let's get to that. We're going to do that on the other side of this break.

And Damon, I'm ready to not talk about Cotel anymore, but I'm definitely ready to talk about Corbyn Carroll's birthday bash or Chase Field tonight.
Starting point is 00:28:50 It's right, baby. Diamondbacks had themselves a fun night and celebrated Corbyn Carol's 26th birthday, the exact way Corbyn Carol probably has wanted to celebrate his birthday every single year by playing baseball and by whooping another team's ass. And they did that tonight. They absolutely worked the Reds and in every facet of the game. We're going to get to Eduardo Rodriguez's amazing day here shortly, but the Diamondbacks dominated the Reds tonight,
Starting point is 00:29:15 scoring in each one of their first four innings, plus they tacked on more runs late. Meanwhile, Erod was lights out on the mound again and came just one out short of his third quality start in a row. But all of this starts with the Corbyn Carroll birthday celebration. And with one out in the first inning, birthday boy himself was gifted a base on balls by Red Starter Nick Ladolo, and it was the perfect size.
Starting point is 00:29:39 Carroll would steal second base, which is his 18th stolen base of the year, and then Gabrielle Moreno would bring him home with an RBI single that gave the debacks a 1-0-0 lead right away early in the game, and the hit actually extended Gabby's hitting streak to a career best of 14 games. So Moreno, not only did he have the on-base streak that was historic franchise, the historic in the franchise, but now he has continued to extend his career best hitting streak and it cannot say enough about how valuable Gabriel Moreno has been. Two guys we could really highlight in this game is Moreno and Erod. They talked before the game that
Starting point is 00:30:16 the Diamondbacks would not be in this position without Erod. The Diamondbacks would not be in this position without Gabriel Moreno's production either. He's better than your favorite team's catcher. He's better than any catcher you've ever liked in your whole entire life. He's better than Johnny Bench. I mean, that's what people are saying. People don't even know who Mike Piazza is anymore. that loser. Gabriel Moreno is hitting 308 now with an 854 OPS after going two for five tonight with that RBI after scoring Corby in the first inning.
Starting point is 00:30:44 Meanwhile, the Reds were a disaster tonight in every way. Not only were they bad, not score, they didn't have a single extra base hit. They were 0 for the runners in scoring position. But right away, Reds outfielder Michael Tuglia made a diving grab on a ball from Roldo Pardoma, which was great for him until he, landed awkwardly and dislocated his shoulder in the process.
Starting point is 00:31:08 He would leave the game. And even later in the game, Friedel, I think, would be hit by a pitch. If I'm not mistaken, they were running out of left fielders very fast. But overall, the Diamondbacks just kept it rolling. They proceeded to score in each of their first four innings. Tawa singled to lead off the second and then stole second base. And you just got Jimothy Toward.
Starting point is 00:31:29 I don't know what to tell you. But Jordan Lawler finally returned. And I know he's been back for a while, but tonight felt like the first night that Jordan Lawler truly was back. He finally returned to the starting lineup with the biggest night since his returning from that hamstring injury. He hit a two-run home run with Tawa on base to give the Diamondbacks of 3-0 lead. That was just his second homer of the year, which feels crazy.
Starting point is 00:31:54 It was 100.8 miles per hour off the bat, 377 feet to left field. And then, like, we gave him King Snake, just a. few days ago. But Jose Fernandez cannot say enough about how he's swinging the bat, cannot say enough about how he's playing defense, even if he's not Nolan R and Otto over there at third base, and if you guys are, what he did in the second inning was truly impressive to me. What Jose Fernandez did to score a single run to put the Diamondbacks up four to nothing was the best example of Diamondbacks baseball that I've ever seen. In fact, I just commented on this the other day about a Red Sox player, Durbin, doing this to us because this is the kind of thing
Starting point is 00:32:38 we usually do to other teams. And that's when Fernandez would reach on a single there in the second inning. Then he would steal second base. Then he would advance on a wild pitch. And then he would score on a sack fly by Vargy. That's what we're talking about. That's Diamondbacks baseball. Sorry I had to make so much noise. I just needed to make sure you guys were still awake at 1113 p.m. but that is the kind of baseball that we want to see this team playing. That is what that is what Diamondbacks baseball is. That is their calling card. Tonight the Diamondbacks had one home run,
Starting point is 00:33:14 but they scored nine runs and had 15 hits. That's Diamondbacks baseball. Also in the inning, Carol Marino would both single. Gabby would steal second, but neither runner would score. And let's talk about stealing when we're talking about Diamondbacks baseball. four stolen bases for this team in the first two innings of this game. Four. My God.
Starting point is 00:33:38 And that was Corbyn Carroll, Tim Tawa, Jose Fernandez, and Gabby Moreno. The debacks are the first team this season to have four stolen bases in the first two innings of a game. The Brewers did it last year one time on April 20th, 2025. And they've only done it three times in franchise history. Travis Lee, Damian Miller, and Tony Womack did it with Travis Lee swiping two bags back on May 19, 2000 against the Mets. On September 21st, 2011, they did it against the Pirates with Willie Bloomquist, Chris Young, Aaron Hill, and Lyle Overbay. That's four names. That's four names.
Starting point is 00:34:17 And then the last occurrence was in October of 2016 against the Padres when Gene Seguera, who we traded for Cotel Marte, Paul, Goldschmidt, Chris Owings, and Brandon Drury all had stolen bases in the first two innings. So that was, again, Diamondbacks baseball. The chaos is back, as our guy R.A. says here. And Charles might definitely be right. The Reds
Starting point is 00:34:39 might be lazy. In fact, the Reds are lazy, but they would score one run in a few more innings. The Diamondbacks would go on to add a single run in the fourth inning, or the third inning, the fourth inning and the seventh inning with two outs in the third. Lottler singled, Fernandez walked, and
Starting point is 00:34:55 Waldie hit an RBI double that scored Loller to put the team up five to nothing. In the fifth, Carol would hit a lead off double, advance on a Gabby flyout, and then score on a Pardomo RBI single, and then the seventh, Pardomo hit a single, Taua Walk, and Loller delivered once again with another hit, an RBI single that scored Pardomo and pushed the lead to seven to nothing. But they did not stop there. There was blood in the water, or maybe it was just the Reds melting, but regardless, they weren't done scoring.
Starting point is 00:35:23 The Diamondbacks put up two more in the bottom of the eighth, with the last, with the blood in the with two outs once again, which is something they did several times in this game, scoring and getting more runs with two outs in the inning. Perdomo doubled and Aronado brought him home with an RBI single to make it 9-0. And then once again, you got Jimithy Toward. He delivered an RBI double
Starting point is 00:35:40 that went to the outfield wall and pushed the lead to 9 to nothing. And tonight was the start of players weekend, so it was more fun to even see these guys doing it. You know, with these fun bats. I saw Jose Fernandez has a Spider-Man bat that I don't think he busted out tonight. Brian Walschmidt got the rookie special, which is where Louisville Slugger just gives you a colored bat
Starting point is 00:36:01 that you have no choice or you can't pick anything on it. They just give you the bat. But it was a hot bat and he swang that bat well tonight. So overall fun weekend. One thing I do want to point out is one player in MLB and I don't know who it is because MLB just tweeted out a picture of it has a teenage mutant ninja dirtles glove that says cowabunga on it.
Starting point is 00:36:21 And if we aren't getting Tim Tawa one that says Tawa, Bunga on it. What is even the point of any of this anymore? What are we even doing? Why are we even playing a game of baseball anymore if we're not going to get Tim Tawa a teenage mutant ninja turtle's glove that looks like Donatello so it's purple and matches the Serpienti uniform and says Taabunga on it. I'm actually furious about this right now. And yes, I'm also, I agree with And NJ, I'm sorry, your username sometimes are hard for me to read. But he says, miss the nicknames on the back. Is it even Players Weekend without the nicknames on the back?
Starting point is 00:37:00 What even happened to that? Why are, why do we hate fun? Why do we hate fun? Remember the Boxburger emoji? It's in the goddamn hall. It's in the whole fame. It's in Cooperstown. Terrible pitcher.
Starting point is 00:37:15 Terrible pitcher. First emoji on the back of a freaking jersey. though, brother, box and burger. Think about it. Imagine if you guys saw Tim Tawa come out with a Jimothy jersey. Would you not lose your mind? Tawa came out with a jersey that said Jimothy on the back? Right?
Starting point is 00:37:36 Or Tawabanga? I'm fine either. We might be baseball's most popular team over taking Otani and the Dodgers if Jimothy Jersey was a real thing. At least with the crypto bros. They'll love it. Derek, you want to talk about. They will main coin the.
Starting point is 00:37:48 shit out of that. You want to talk about building a community and building a fan base that cares about your baseball team. A Jimithee Jersey does exactly that. Also, if you don't, if you like money, right, I would suggest highly just letting the players keep the bats all year long. I don't know why the bats are distracting when they're wearing, you know, neon colored arm guards and shin guards and shoes and everything else. So why can't we just have the fun bats? But once again, I'll bring this point up as a business. imagine producing those bats as the little tiny bats you sell two for $20 around Chase Field. And I can buy the Spider-Man bat that, no, give it to me.
Starting point is 00:38:33 Give it to me right now. I mean, I already want the one that they have in the team shop that looks like a little lightsaber. I just can't, I can't in good faith explain why I need it. But I need it. I need it. Anyway, defensively, this team was solid once again. And Jordan Lawler made an outstanding diving catch to Rob Matt McLean of a single in the second inning. He did not dislocate his shoulder.
Starting point is 00:38:55 And he also barely hung on to the ball too. So that one was very close to not being a catch. And then Corbyn Carroll, speaking of plays that kind of got botched, attempted to make an amazing play on a ball that he couldn't quite reach in the fifth inning. But then he missed making the catch. And he, Damon, he trapped the ball in a way. He did like a flip little somersault thing, trapped the ball, stopped it, kept it in his glove. even though he missed making the catch. And that would have been a freaking triple
Starting point is 00:39:21 or maybe even in the park home run had he not done that. Because he would have been on the ground. The ball would have gotten past him. It would have gone all the way to that right field corner banged around a little bit in there. And, you know, he would have been off to the races. So great job by Corby and Carol there.
Starting point is 00:39:36 Great job by the birthday boy at the plate tonight. He's one of the top performers in this game going two for four with two runs scored a walk and a double. You got Moreno going two for five with an RBI. Perdomo was three for five. with two runs scored an RBI and a double of his own, and then Jimothy was two for four with a run scored an RBI and a double.
Starting point is 00:39:56 Also, Big Body James McCann came into the game late to take over at first base, and he did, in fact, enter into his 1,000th career baseball game. So hats off to our guy, sexy man James McCann, even sexier now that he's played in a thousand games. But we've got to give our Kingsnake to someone as much as I wanted to be Corbyn, Carol on his birthday. It's not. It's Jordan Lawler. Jordan Lawler was amazing tonight. Three for five,
Starting point is 00:40:25 three RBI, two runs scored and a big home run. It just, it felt like the weight lifted off of his shoulders. And that's just me speculating on that. But, you know, I can imagine when you're struggling the way that Jordan has been, even though he was doing really good in his rehab starts in the minor leagues, you know, a lot of people were frustrated with him. In fact, I mean, he was pulled out of that game in Boston and pinch hit for by Lars Newbar, who hit a home run in that particular pinch hit at bat. But it felt like, you know, Laller for a little while there was, was not a person you could count on at the plate.
Starting point is 00:41:03 But baseball is difficult and it takes time for you to catch up on timing and just get back to being in a rhythm. It's why we say it's so hard to pinch hit. It's why we say it's so hard to not get playing time and expected to still come into games and be good. It's not easy. I like what Ernesto said here about Loller. He does just have such like easy pop.
Starting point is 00:41:24 Yeah, he does. When he connects with the baseball, it just flies. It flies off the bat. You can see why he's a guy that was so highly touted when, you know, when you when you, when you see that in in real time happening, it's very easy to see why he was a top 10 pick. Why he was a top 10 prospect. It's so, it's so natural to him. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:41:44 Work on him with this. Imagine if he could stay healthy. Yeah. That's really. at this point, I'm confident Jordan Lawler is a good major league baseball player. It doesn't even really matter what position he's playing.
Starting point is 00:41:58 He moved to outfield and he looks better at outfield than he wasn't infield. And he hasn't played outfield his whole life. Because he's just a natural athlete. Correct. But you just need him to stay on the field and be consistent. And I think that he's going to be a guy
Starting point is 00:42:13 that we're looking at as one of the staples of the organization potentially. Because again, when he connects, with the baseball, it goes over the fence a lot of times. And it's nice to just have, you know, that those, those extra pieces that can kind of help elevate the middle to back end of the lineup when you know you have the guys at the front end of the lineup. You just need people to pick up a little bit of extra slack.
Starting point is 00:42:36 And that's what's starting to happen. That's what's starting to happen. That's why they're playing the last 30 games or so. The five to nine hitters for a while there were the guys actually carrying this game, this team to victory, right? and we were begging. We were begging. We were like,
Starting point is 00:42:49 please, Corbin, Perdomo, you know, it wasn't Moreno, right? And Moreno got kind of moved up from being like the five hitter
Starting point is 00:42:57 to being like the three hitter. He got moved up in the lineup into that, you know, group, right? But now Corbans starting to catch fire. He was NL player of the week last year. Perdomo has a three hit game tonight
Starting point is 00:43:06 and Perdomo's batting average is up to, you ready for this, Damon? You ready for what? Perdom is batting? Hit me. 248 with a 733 OPS. Derek,
Starting point is 00:43:16 I want, by the end of the season, I want 760 OPS. I want two, like 60, 2508. You know, like I, I think we can continue rising this thing. I think we can too. With the way that Pergomo has been playing ball recently.
Starting point is 00:43:31 Well, and this is what he needs to do. Yeah. Like he's found himself a good spot where he's just like, I mean, even today, right, he was the number four hitter in the lineup. But he doesn't need to be that. He almost got three hits. Diving play took away that.
Starting point is 00:43:44 No, he did get three hits. He was three and five tonight. Oh, he almost got four. Yeah. I mean, that diving play took away, took away an extra one. So, I mean, again, you just feel like things are starting to happen. Again, this Reds team is not very good, but it's still a team that they are in the wildcard race with, right? So they're not, they're no slouch.
Starting point is 00:44:00 And not only that, but you're distancing yourself from teams in the pack. And that just can demoralize them and make them feel like they're out of it. So that's what we need to do right now. We need to have less teams thinking that they can get back into it. We need to have the Cardinals, the Marlins, and the Reds fall off. Yeah. then that just makes this race a three-team race for two spots essentially coming down to the wire.
Starting point is 00:44:21 And maybe if one of those other teams wanted to fall off and make things a little bit easier on us, feel free. I love that. For the love of God, for the love of God, can the Phillies stop winning baseball games? They won their eighth game in a row tonight. Why did you do the thing where you called out the Phillies? I don't know. I don't know why I did that.
Starting point is 00:44:42 That was like an odd. I didn't really get that one. It's like I was begging for this to happen. Literally. Here's Tori Lobolo talking about the win. Let's get the heat off me, Damon, and let's move it to Tori. We got to win baseball games, and we know everything is out on the table, and we got to go out and perform and play our game and do the things that we do best.
Starting point is 00:45:02 And today's a perfect example of what the debacks can do. One through 26, everybody got on their assignments, did their job, and we won a baseball game. And coaches coached their asses off. Players played even harder. and it results in a big win. And we've got to come out and do it again tomorrow. I don't want to take anything for granted to keep our foot on the gas pedal.
Starting point is 00:45:23 E-Rod was fantastic. It's almost a quality start. I thought his stuff was ticking down a little bit. He was grinding and I had a conversation with him and I said, you know, it's getting towards the end, show me that you can finish your inning and, you know, give you another opportunity. You know, I just felt like it was time to turn it over the bullpen. But up until that point, he was doing a great job of pitching, both sides of the
Starting point is 00:45:44 plate. I had a real nice game plan. I think we learned something from the last Cincinnati outing that he had where they were patient and checking off certain pitches and he just filled up his own where he were in spots that he was very comfortable with. And in back of that the boys just went out and got it done on the mount. It's nice to see J-Mart in front of this home crowd and got that support for him and it's a second outing but you know with each outing that he's he's going out there and executing at the high level that we want him to he's going to much closer to that full form that we saw him in in previous years.
Starting point is 00:46:16 Offensively, it was just a complete day. It was the first batter, and, you know, we identified a couple of things and started stealing bases, gave us energy, and we just tacked on. We kept scoring runs. Lawler had a huge day. Pardomo had a huge day. It's just a really complete day. We built innings, hit with men in the scoring position.
Starting point is 00:46:35 We've got to keep getting after it tomorrow. Corey says, Tori was so excited to not talk about Ctele to kick on. off that presser. I think Tori was just excited to talk about a 9-0 victory, right? I mean, this was huge. And I asked Tori, the very next question, I asked him about, you know, what, what this kind of win does. I mean, this isn't just a, this isn't just a victory. This was the, the diamondbacks dominating the reds in every way. Their bullpen dominated. Their pitching staff dominated. Their offense put up nine runs and 15 hits over multiple innings where they scored in nearly every inning in this game except the fifth and the sixth.
Starting point is 00:47:14 And I think after what they have been through, including a plane ride from hell yesterday, that they are just really happy to have played such a complete game today. And again, here's Tori talking about what this win means and how it's a statement that they are back. I thought it was a pretty big statement. The Reds are not a bad baseball team.
Starting point is 00:47:39 They're in a race too. And we had a tough three days. We know that. I've said that. I will say it again openly. Winning that last day on Wednesday was a massive win, and I think it pushed us forward. And I said it after the game.
Starting point is 00:47:56 I just want to get home. I just want to get home in front of our fans, play in our stadium and play our game the way we know how, and take our chances. And I think everybody's looking forward to that. Had a little hiccup. We spent a night in Las Vegas. know that I don't know what happened there.
Starting point is 00:48:13 And we've managed. We've been dealing with a lot. And that's what we do. It's part of our culture. It's about adjusting, adapting, and going out there and performing as a team. Top G on the chat says, what's that side patch? It's the player's weekend side patch. And it looks really freaking cool on the Serpientis hat.
Starting point is 00:48:34 I got to admit. Also, just a tidbit, you advantage members out there, they're selling the Serpiente's jerseys during this weekend for, I think, like, $80 off for you guys. I think it's like $100. So, and that's while supplies last. So get out there. But like I said, the Diamondbacks did have a travel day from hell yesterday where due to the weather, they actually had to circle Phoenix a few times and eventually go land in Las Vegas where they spent the night.
Starting point is 00:49:05 And they were still able to make it back here today, get some sleep in, get to the ballpark and whoop that trick known as the Cincinnati Reds. Here is Jordan Lawler talking about that very complicated travel day. Travel was pretty crazy. We thought we were getting into Phoenix after like the five-hour Boston flight. And the next thing you know, you just feel the plane keep doing circles. And then McCann had some family that got diverted already. So the chances of going to Vegas pretty high.
Starting point is 00:49:36 And then credit to Roger and all that. them to get us in the hotel, get some sleep, and then make it back. We're ready for today. Man, we don't give enough flowers to Roger, who's the clubby for the Diamondbacks, or Lupe, or any of those amazing guys in that locker room that do so much for these guys, and very rarely do they get that kind of credit. So, especially in an emergency like this, those are the guys that truly come through for this team.
Starting point is 00:50:04 And because of those clubhouse guys, this team was prepared and ready to play a baseball game, today and boy they won't they did a good job of playing that baseball game we're going to take a quick break on the other side of this break we have to talk about erod and his amazing day on the mound so don't you go anywhere you are watching the ph and x diamond back show well summer may be winding down but the perfect time to get those home projects started is happening right now and start the project you've been putting off for so long no matter what it is but the one thing you should look at is replacing the windows in your home because it's still hot here in the valley. And again, for someone like me who literally leaves my sunglasses everywhere, Damon can attest to this. I texted Damon yesterday. I said, hey, did I leave my sunglasses at the office? He's like, yep, you did, you big old dummy. And that's because, again, that's what happens. The problem is, is I leave them places and I can't call them and ask them if I left them there. At least they're shady rays, though, where you know that even if they're not in the office, you can just hit up their support team and they're going to send you a brand new pair. That is it.
Starting point is 00:52:36 As easy as that. Just ask for it and you shall receive. That's great. And they also have some amazing frames as well as polarized lenses that will protect your eyes from this Arizona sun. So Shady Raises eyewear that has your back. Starting point is 00:53:02 So get those two pairs. All right, Damon. Well, we got to talk about Erod and the wonderful day he had on the mound because Eduardo Rodriguez was amazing. But first, we do have some pregame comments, I believe, from Tori. Tori was kind of, you know, he's asked about the Cattel stuff and that was everything. But eventually he did get around to how much Eduardo Rodriguez has meant to this team this year, especially considering, you know, his time in Arizona has not exactly been amazing as a starting pitcher up until this 2026 season.
Starting point is 00:53:35 And this team would probably be pretty loss without him right now. But here's what Tori had to say pregame about his pitcher that was going out on the mound to start this one. Yeah, you can't give it value. You can't, you can't, you can't possibly understand how important he is to me, the conversations I have with him, his perspective, his ability to adapt when I ask him to make adjustments, his fearlessness and telling me things about how I can become a better manager and then watching him just go with a slow heartbeat out there and execute like he's ready to just just bury you and makes a mistake and shakes it off as quickly as possible so there's a certain level
Starting point is 00:54:19 of maturity that I've watched over the 12 14 plus years since I've known him and I just I'm excited for the type of year he's happened because he's worked hard. to make that happen. So he's hitting everything from A to Z for the Arizona at Ironbacks. It's been an unbelievably magical year. And without him, we wouldn't be in this position. Tori got asked about E-Rod and he went full Vince McMahon being asked to describe how much Undertaker is meant to him. That's what he was. That was just getting ready to tear up and call it off because E-Rod's been that special for this team and it was another outstanding start
Starting point is 00:54:58 for E-Rod with plenty of run support. But it was a night where E-Rod's fast. Fastball wasn't really working because he was pretty tired after all of that aforementioned travel day that they had. And again, he wasn't able to make his put together his third quality start in a row, but it was still a very good night that started with a one, two, three first inning. And it started with a strikeout of L.E. Dela Cruz for the very first batter of the game. Then we got our pal who I got to give a little hug to today. Actually, it was a big hug, and it felt great. And I think I, like, I think my life is better. After getting to hug, Gino Suarez at Chase Field.
Starting point is 00:55:39 It was the first time Gino has returned as an opposing player since being traded. And man, did he get himself a really nice ovation? The crowd was thrilled to see Gino. And after a really nice ovation for Gino in his return to Chase Field, he turned around and squared up to Bunt the very first pitch on his, his Venezuelan brother, Eduardo Rodriguez, who basically looked at him after he got the ball back and gave him one of these, like,
Starting point is 00:56:08 what the hell are you thinking? It was great. After the game, I did ask Erod about that moment and about his relationship with Gino, and his answer was delightful. Here's what Eirot had to say. It's a show every time. He knows.
Starting point is 00:56:22 I know Gino, even before we were to the United States, we know, like, we play each other. I was in buying in Detroit when he signed in Venezuela, 2009. and I know it's on size then, you know, and we venture a lot, like Winter Bowl, the WC, winning this year and all that. So it's always fun with him. I was telling him that I'm going to hit it with a change yet, but every time it's in the home place,
Starting point is 00:56:43 the situation happens, so it never happened, and I don't think it's going to happen. But, like I say, it's always fun. He tried to bon in the first abet, and I just laugh and look at him. Like, you know that fast at all, so you can't run on me, you know? So we always have fun, you know, and I want to keep it that way. And I mean, I don't think he don't have a homero of me that day, they are going to be mad, so I don't want that to happen either. But it's always fun to have him.
Starting point is 00:57:04 I know he had the time early and that the first abat. So I know that there was waiting for that, and I just taking my time to get in the mound and give him some time to feel that they love him and still love him here, which is good from the fans that they give that to him. And like I said, we're really good friends, and I love that, but they give him some love to him too. Hilariously, Gino would walk in that first at bat,
Starting point is 00:57:27 and then he would also walk in his final at bat against Erod, which ended Erod's day. So that's funny. But between then, he would kind of dominate the Reds. He had a one, two, three, third inning with a strikeout of Cubrian Hayes. And then it would take 10 batters, 10 batters in this game until Erod gave up his first hit, which was a single by Sal Stewart in the fourth inning. Erod would give up another hit in the inning and the Reds would have runners on the
Starting point is 00:57:51 corners. But that would literally be the closest that they came in this game to scoring off of Eduardo Rodriguez. He did give up another pair of singles. in the fifth inning, but he got De La Cruz to hit into the inning-ending double play. And then he would get into the sixth, but Rodriguez would get through five and two-thirds before being pulled after walking, Gino, hilariously. The culprit really was his high-pitch count.
Starting point is 00:58:15 While he was dealing, the Reds were making him throw a lot of pitches, especially. In that second inning, I think he had some very lengthy at bats or, yeah, so, you know, just some battles. He had a 25-pitched second inning, a 21-pitched fourth inning. he was at 87 pitches after five. So it was just one of those days where, you know, Gino overall came just one out shy of getting that quality start. And of course, that was only important because in his last two starts,
Starting point is 00:58:45 he's had quality starts in a row. Now in his last three starts, he has allowed four earned runs and 18 and two-thirds innings pitched for a 1.93 ERA over his last three starts. It's pretty good. right? I think so. I don't know. I don't know if I know ball, but let's take a look at his pitch chart image from tonight because as you'll see what he was doing was well, but his fast, forcing fastball usage was a little bit down because he was taking a little bit off of it, not taking a little bit off of it, but he was tired. He, his fastball only maxed out at 92.8 miles
Starting point is 00:59:21 per hour tonight, but it averaged 90.8, which was way down from his yearly average. I think he averages around 92 miles an hour. If I'm not mistaken, let me look that up really fast so I can confirm that. But his yearly average is actually 92.0 miles per hour. So his fastball was down considerably if you're if you're looking at that from 92 to 90.8. But he was still very effective with it. He got two whiffs with that. He was still using it well in conjunction with the change up. He used the change up 31% of the outing. He used the four seam 34%. So Those were his two main pitches. He did get that.
Starting point is 01:00:01 He did have that cutter factor in. That cutter kind of looks like the four scene, but just has a little bit different movement in it. The most oppressive thing, though, is look at where every changeup landed. Every single green dot outside of a couple that caught the zone or maybe landed in the middle of the zone, a few of them. But, man, there were a lot of pitches of his, you know, 95 that he threw, 99 that he threw that landed there exactly where he he hit.
Starting point is 01:00:27 He wanted that change up to land. He also threw, he got five whiffs with the change up, two whiffs with the four seam, one whiff with the sinker. And then he used the cutter curveball and sinker sparingly. But still, eight whiffs on the night and just a very good night for Erod. It's funny because he was this good when he was tired. He was this good when he had very little sleep. Like, get this man some rest. And can you imagine how powerful he could be?
Starting point is 01:00:57 five and two thirds innings pitched four hits zero earn runs two walks four k with great power comes great responsibility that's we've said that about kutel and i think jos jose fernandez was on that tonight he was definitely on that tonight oh that is so cool uh let's fire up that circle strike circle k strikeout meter four four big strikeouts night for erod fits the game plan as we've talked about all late all season long i even kind of joke that like i wonder if brandon fought's eight pitch strikeout made like Jeremy Blige come down and have a talk with him. Like, hey, it was nice to have eight strikeouts, pal, but that's not what we do around here anymore.
Starting point is 01:01:34 Four strikeouts for Erod tonight. More importantly, the Diamondbacks have won 20 out of 26 starts made by Eduardo Rodriguez. They just win. They win when he's on the mound. That's the way it works. And again, they did that again tonight. And it was another amazing night for this team. Here is Erod discussing his outing.
Starting point is 01:01:57 and being tired after that long night of travel. Being good, a little tired, you know, things because of the travel that we had the night before. But I go out there and try to do the best as I can, you know, and we end up winning the game, which is the best part of, you know. I feel my pitch of it was there. You just feel my butt a little tire, so fastball wasn't there, and we'd be lost.
Starting point is 01:02:17 I mean, normally 91, 92, so. But today, Chania was working great, and we take advantage of it, and we end up and go fighting two thirds, which is what we go out there for. I mean, I gave it asleep last night, but my body still, like, I feel like it was the first time that I feel like that. But like I said, like, we went up there and drew a jab and we won the win it again, you know, hitting him pitch good and we win it again. If you're here right now, hit the like button for Erod, hit the like button for Gino.
Starting point is 01:02:42 Hit the like button for me and Damon if you're here right now. We love it and it always helps us out. That's the way that the YouTube algorithm works. So if you're here, we love for you to hit that like button. But more importantly, hit it for Eduardo Rodriguez and the Diamondbacks winning 20. out of his 26 starts. Erod was asked about that achievement and he really just
Starting point is 01:03:03 wants to win them all. Here's what Erod had to say about going 20 for 26. I mean, I want to win all the ones, you know? I feel like I still get what six or seven more and I want to win all of them because like I said, we know the situation where we had. But for me, I know like every time we do a good job, they're going to end up there,
Starting point is 01:03:20 and end up the game and those numbers say said, and I just want to keep going out there and keep foot in zero and the game. Like I said, especially on the situation. again another night that not only was erod outstanding but this bullpen back that up right you got uh dennis santana not making his debut because he did pitch in a third of an inning already for this team but he came in and gave the diamond backs one in a third and and zeros across the board aside from two strikeouts i know santana you know was kind of discarded from the pirates but much like a
Starting point is 01:03:53 few other guys he could be a serious weapon for this team at the very third least he's eating up some innings while he's here and he's helping this team right so that that's looking like a good signing so far justin martinez came out damon and i can tell you this was a night where i had a lot of joy i was very happy i smiled a lot tonight but you know when i was angry was when justin martinez came out and they decided to use that moment as the moment that they were going to talk about faith and family night no fanfare for our goat No music, no lights going down and purple lights coming on, no club atmosphere for the demon?
Starting point is 01:04:33 What are we doing? It's the wrong move. One inning pitch from Justin Martinez. He did have a walk, but he also had a strikeout, and he did his job, and he looks great doing it. Last but not least, Taylor Clark also had an inning of work. One strikeout, no hits, no runs, one walk allowed in three and a third innings by this bullpen staff.
Starting point is 01:04:56 They're nails. They're nails. I know they're not nails all the time, but they're nails a lot. And it's still coming together, right? This is still a developing situation as far as the bullpen is concerned. And I think that, you know, they're in a very good spot, at least for right now. I also saw Ryan Thompson tonight and gave him a hug too. And that's only because I'm sad he's hurt.
Starting point is 01:05:18 And I'm excited for him to go with me to watch the World Rumble at State Farm Stadium. I'm going to make that happen. But Ryan said he's feeling much better. And they talked about him still needing to kind of get some more. work done on his hip. So that's unfortunate considering how big he is and his delivery overall. But for right now, this team seems very solid as far as the arms that they have in their pen and guys that they can count on.
Starting point is 01:05:42 We are going to take a quick break on the other side of this break. We're going to talk about the numbers from tonight's big win as well as an update from Tori on Nolan Aronado. Don't you guys go anywhere. You are watching the pH next time in back show. Damon, before we get to the numbers, let's take a look at some of the super chats that we have tonight from these amazing people in our live chat. Uh, let's see. Our goats. We got, uh, first of all, super chat, uh, shaming us for the show, never starting on time. Well, the Arguspides. Uh, need the stats.
Starting point is 01:08:38 Does this show ever start on time? Probably not, brother, but we appreciate your viewership. Yeah, because thank you for the super chat. Here's the thing. Um, you know what? I'll take the shots fired. It's a two man show here. And, uh, Derek has a little bit of a trouble getting over here from the, from, from the
Starting point is 01:08:55 ballpark. this office is very close to the ballpark. When they shut down first, like they do, like they love to do to me, it makes my night a living hell. But it's also Friday, and there was also a postgame concert. So factor all of those things into my travel. And you should consider yourself lucky that we started this show at all, that I ever made it to this office, let alone by 1040.
Starting point is 01:09:21 What else we got? Oh, Johnny Walker, friend since kindergarten. I was just going to say, you can talk. shit about the job we're doing if you pay us money in the process. Absolutely. Absolutely. If you're going to be killer X and be like, oh, is your post game day? Oh, you can find yourself in time out or kick from the chat. And I got that bottle of champagne on ice. Don't forget, killer wrecks. I'm tripped out. Thank you for your super chat. He said, I heard Troy got a hit off of Burns on a 20 pitch session. All right.
Starting point is 01:09:51 We're getting some. There was a live at bat today or live, live, uh, live BP there for, uh, for Corbyn Burns. So I didn't hear the results, but I did hear everything went well. I don't know. I'd prefer if you didn't give up any hits, though, if I'm being honest. I'm tripped out also says, are we still clubbing if the Dodgers get eliminated? Oh, God, yes. Oh, God, yes. I mean, if the Dodgers yeah. Do you mean, like, eliminated as a baseball team because of their fraudulent activities and the way that they're trying to play a shell game with their money and have insurance companies pay for their TV deal? that pay the Dodgers money, and then the Dodgers pay the insurance companies,
Starting point is 01:10:28 and then the insurance companies pay the money. It's, I don't know. There seems like some sort of Ponzi scheme going on there, but what do I know? Last Cool Bro, 297 says, Gambo last year, the coddling had to stop, and yet Tori has continued to coddle Kattel,
Starting point is 01:10:41 and it has backfired, not saying Kutel has no blame, but management. Eh, I don't know. I don't think Tori coddles Kattel. I think Tori handles his players in a very specific way, and this is the way he handles it.
Starting point is 01:10:52 I think Tori's the kind of guy that has his players back. I think Tori's the kind of guy that I could call and say, hey, I'm really struggling with this one. I need to talk to you and lay it all out for him. And there's no reason why Tori Lavallo would not understand. And in fact, you're right. I will say that one thing that you could criticize Tori for is favoring his players and doing what they, you know, are asking of more or, you know, giving them those days off, but also taking the blame for it. You know, Tori will be the one that says after Kutel had a five-hit game,
Starting point is 01:11:29 that it was his decision to sit him because Tori had already had it penciled in since March, and this was the day that Ketel was going to sit. I don't know about that anymore. I think Tori's just the kind of guy that you go to him, you ask him something that might make you possibly look bad as a player, and Tori will have your back. That's what makes this whole situation that much more confusing as far as why any player that has played for Tori as long as Ketel,
Starting point is 01:11:57 has would feel like he can't come to him and tell him exactly what's on his mind. Yeah. Hell, me and Damon unload on Tori at Sunday dinner. Every Sunday, we come in with all of our problems and just lay it on the table for Tori, whether he can fix it or not. He just, it's a good ear. He's a good ear. And he makes an amazing bruchetta.
Starting point is 01:12:20 I don't even know. It's just bread with stuff on top, but it's amazing. Damon, let's take a look at the numbers from tonight's game because they're very, pretty and I could look at them all night long. Uh, yeah, Tori smiling. Yeah, I would, I would have this same shit eating grin on my face, too, of my baseball team just won nine to nothing over the reds. They had five extra base hits to the red zero.
Starting point is 01:12:41 Six for 13 with runners in scoring position for a 462 batting average. Get out of here. O for four on the red side. Zero extra base hits on the red side. Uh, hard hit percentage, 50%. for the Diamondbacks, 21.7% hard hit percentage for the Reds. And this is the craziest one of all, Damien.
Starting point is 01:13:03 I just, I thought baseball savant was broken when I saw this. A 451 expected batting average for Diamondbacks hitters tonight. 451 expected batting average. We lose our minds when it's like 300. 451? It's ridiculous.
Starting point is 01:13:25 179 for the Reds. and then challenges, they were two for two, reds were three for four. Good night. Good win for this team. And again, I want to stare at the wild card standings. I want to talk about the wild card standings. But in my head, I just thought, like, none of us should be doing that until September 15th. And the expectation should be that any time they lose a game, that they're going to lose ground.
Starting point is 01:13:54 And that's how they should be playing baseball. And that's it. got to keep your head down, take each day one day at a time, and try to win every baseball game that you can between now and September 29th. That's it. But realistically, the real race will start around the midpoint of September. That's where we'll really know where we're at. And if we have a chance to make the playoffs,
Starting point is 01:14:18 plus we have series ahead of us against the Phillies and the Padres. And I know they don't necessarily control their own destiny, but playing those teams and having, those teams still on their schedule very much means that the diamondbacks can have an impact on their own fate, right? They don't have to sit around and wait for those teams to win or lose. They can impact their destiny by beating those teams when it comes time to play them. And what they don't need is a distraction from Catelle Marte, who might, in fact, as far as the schedule is concerned, be back in time for that three-game series with the Philadelphia Phillies.
Starting point is 01:14:54 And man, wouldn't it feel good even after all of this to watch Catell just. smash a walkoff dinger against those guys, sign me up. But anyway, we've kept you too long, but we do appreciate you guys being here. This like, appreciate you, cool, bro. We've got another super chat. He says, like felt like there was more, uh, that was more fair for GCU than you of A tonight. No, we're not doing that. We're not getting into this stupid college argument with Damon.
Starting point is 01:15:24 Johnny Walker, he says, bro, go DBEX. Cool bro can't even take like a nine. win in a time where like our superstars like quitting on the team and use that to like maybe today we band together and you know really form as one tonight give it a rest oh it really feel like gsu on a big severe section tonight all right man it's because you have a people are busy partying in tucson isn't it isn't it i think that that was that was the best compliment i could give you but anyway we love you guys so much appreciate you you will be back on Monday with another postgame show or no 12 p.m. show. We don't do post game shows on
Starting point is 01:16:05 Monday. What am I talking about? But there's a good chance that I'm going to have to do an emergency podcast this weekend. So keep it locked right here to PHNX for that. And if not, me and Rock will get together so we can say a bunch of curse words about this Cotell Marte situation. And that will be dropping on Sunday night. So, of course, we appreciate you guys being here right now tonight and loving and supporting this team. Of course, you can follow us on social media cap underscore caveman. the K, that's me. Our show is at pH and X underscore Dbacks, but all roads lead to at pH and X underscore sports on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. Love you guys so much. Thank you again

We'll see you back here on Monday or maybe this weekend. And until then, have a wonderful rest of your Friday night, Saturday and Sunday.
