Well, the Diamondbacks get swept by the Dodgers tonight, and it's official.
We are now a Savannah Bananas podcast.
Well, welcome in to another edition of the PHNX Diamondbacks podcast, live from Not Studio K.
This is Studio A, and we're not in here often, but when we are, it's usually bad news.
Welcome in.
My name is Derek Monti, occasionally known as your mayor of PHNX.
I'm thrilled to have you guys here, those few of you that are joining us.
Look, there's a lot of PHNX podcasts you could choose from on an evening like this,
whether it be the Sons who are winning by 30 points or the U of A podcast where the Wildcatch
just advanced to what is it, the final four, right?
That's what they call it in college groups.
Yet, meanwhile, here we are, the Arizona Diamondbacks podcast, discussing the D-backs,
once again blowing a late lead and losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers tonight by a score of
three to two. Now, I guess I'll have to reiterate what I said on Thursday's loss on opening day,
which is, no matter what the pitching staff did, it's not like there's much that can be done
when your offense is only able to generate two runs. And they did a good job of keeping, you know,
of getting some hits against Tyler Glass now early in this game, getting base runners, and taking
an early lead. But unfortunately, that lead was not very big. And it did not.
last the entire game, though it did last a considerable amount of it. And once again, for the third
night in a row, the Diamondbacks played very well against the Dodgers, but not well enough and not a
complete game. Juan Morillo, who came in to this game with two outs, kind of spoiled things there,
or didn't come in with two outs, but got two outs. And unfortunately, the Diamondbacks lose this one
by a score of three to two. Now, I guess the first thing we should start out with, with is, is
Eduardo Rodriguez because there are a lot of question marks about Erod. There's been a lot of discussion
about his contract being a bad one and that the amount of money the Diamondbacks are paying him,
he's definitely not been worth it. And I don't think that there is a lot of argument there.
I think the argument would be, can he get back on track? Can Erod eventually be healthy once again
and be that pitcher that the Diamondbacks thought that they were getting after his years with the
Boston Red Sox and the Detroit Tigers.
And what we saw in the World Baseball Classic there in that championship game with Venezuela
was something that many of us thought, rightfully so, where has this guy been?
Right.
Where has this guy been for the Arizona Diamondbacks?
Well, tonight that guy showed up.
And Erod was excellent against the Los Angeles Dodgers tonight, quite frankly.
He was so far the Diamondbacks best starting pitcher this season.
He put up the best performance.
Ryan Nelson, even though he did give up four earn runs, did.
to have a strong performance against the Dodgers.
It just went someone like Zach Gallens,
where he went from cruising to suddenly hitting a wall.
Nelly kind of rebounded a little bit
and was able to get a few more outs
after he had his little stretch of giving up those four runs.
But tonight there was no stretch for Erod where he broke.
He bent a little bit, but he never broke.
And he gave this Diamondbacks team exactly what they needed out of a starter.
Now, it wasn't necessarily the length
that they needed, but they also didn't have
Erod go very long. He only threw
79 pitches tonight. Fifty of those
were for strikes, but he was
incredible tonight for the Diamondbacks
and again, just something that they
very much needed as far as
starting pitching and
encouraging outing here from
the starting pitchers for the Diamondbacks.
But of course, this game, this
show is brought to you by our friends
at Bet365 in Game Time.
I'm so excited to get talking
about the loss and getting swept
that I walked right past this.
But both of GameTime and Bet365 want to help make watching sports more fun.

But again, the Diamondbacks are now 7 and 7 here in their last 14 games
at the Dodgers dating back to May 21st,
2012. So once again, a 500 team,
which should never surprise anybody about anything
with the Diamondbacks when it comes to that kind of record.
Tonight, though, Erod was actually using his change-up
as his primary pitch.
He threw that 28% of his outing.
He was getting, you know, just having a lot of success with it,
not necessarily getting swing and misses with it,
but it was setting up a lot.
The pitch that he got a ton of swing and miss with tonight
was his cutter, which he got seven swings and misses tonight.
He got four swing and misses on his fastball and one whiff on his sinker,
three whiffs on his curveball.
Fifteen whiffs tonight for Eduardo Rodriguez.
His max velocity on his four seam hit 94 miles per hour,
but he wasn't even using that as his primary pitch.
He used his change up 28% and his cutter 27%.
So about an equal usage of those two pitches.
His cutter was very effective tonight.
Four-seeing fastball, but it's cut her by far, the most effective pitch that he threw tonight.
Also mixed in that sinker and the curveball.
So good mix of pitches, and Erod just did everything he could to battle, keep this team in this game.
He went five innings.
He gave up four hits, one run that scored after he left the game when Jonathan Loisiga,
aka Johnny Lazzania, came into the game.
He walked two, and he struck out five.
But again, it was a great outing from Eduardo Rodriguez.
This was his eighth start against the Dodgers.
He did win his last start against the Dodgers last year,
which was during that five-game stretch that I won't shut up about
because it was against some of the most elite teams in baseball.
And Erod had, you know, his best showing of 2025 almost during that particular stretch.
He once again stepped up tonight for the Diamondbacks and gave them an incredible outing.
And of course, for that reason and for the lack of offense in this game,
Eduardo Rodriguez is our king snake tonight.
Again, guy that completely deserves it.
He's earned it based on, again, not an extremely long outing,
but still five innings pitched, four hits allowed,
no earn runs allowed in those five strikeouts.
And those strikeouts were early.
It looked like he was cruising to have maybe a big, big strikeout game.
But perhaps that is the reason why we saw him be able to keep the Dodgers
and this, you know, this lineup of studs at bay.
because he kind of switched things up
and went a little bit more to contact with his changeup,
and he was able just to get out.
And that was the impressive thing about his outing tonight.
Meanwhile, he was replaced by our guy, Johnny LaZania,
who gave up one hit,
and that one hit did allow a run to score.
He did strike out one,
and the bullpen, again, had some good outings tonight,
including Loisigah, who is proving to be a major pickup for this team.
in this bullpen so far this season.
Not perfect tonight, allowing one of those runs to score,
but still a guy that the Diamondbacks are counting on,
it looks like, here early in the season.
Another non-raster invitee that made the roster
that had a nice outing tonight was Joe Ross.
He went out, gave the Diamondbacks an inning.
But then it was Juan Murillo coming in there in the 8th.
And it's just kind of,
it's just this Dodgers.
lineup that just is so suffocating and so much all the time. And you just feel like no matter what,
no matter how good of a job you do against the top of the lineup, how good of a job you do against
Otani, how good of a job you do against, you know, Freddie Freeman or Muky Betts. You still have
Will Smith to deal with. You still have the bottom half of their lineup, the non, you know, superstars.
And those guys have been killing the Diamondbacks, including Will Smith in this series. And once again,
It happened late.
That's what's heartbreaking is the Diamondbacks were able to carry that two-run lead for the majority of the game.
They scored their second run in the third inning.
It was two to nothing until a sixth when that first run scored after, of course, there at the end of Eduardo Rodriguez's time in the game.
And then here in the bottom of the eighth, you have the Diamondbacks finally, or the Dodgers finally breaking through.
You have Juan Modillo comes in.
He gets Otani to ground out.
He gets Tucker to ground out.
And then he walks mooky bets.
and once again, not just the home run that he allows,
but the base runners, the free passes that a Diamondbacks pitcher gave the Dodgers,
which again is very difficult to overcome.
You know, you don't want those guys to beat you.
So as a pitcher, you're either trying to be fine or you're trying to at least walk them
so that they don't hit the home run and they don't put themselves up.
And I mean, again, credit to Will Smith because that bat,
that at bat was an absolute battle against Juan Murillo.
and he ends up hitting a pretty big home run there.
Scores 2, 414 feet to center field
and gives the Dodgers a 3 to 2 lead,
which the Diamondbacks, unfortunately,
cannot overcome there in the top of the ninth inning.
That is one thing that I am just flabbergasted by this Diamondbacks lineup.
The Dodgers last season, and again,
this is another thing that makes the Dodgers just such suffocating
team to face. Last year, their weakness was their bullpen. This series, their
bullpen does not allow an earn run. The Diamondbacks cannot score late. They cannot put up an
effort that we've seen out of this team in 2025 where suddenly out of nowhere they got
something cooking in the eighth inning and the ninth inning. Instead, we've seen their offense
go completely flat against this Dodgers bullpen. And it's a credit to the improvements that
they've made and how good these guys are.
Again, the Diamondbacks did a good job in this series against starting pitching.
Not a great job, but a good job, especially against Yamamoto and Glass Now.
They didn't go out there and get skunked.
They didn't allow these starting pitchers to go eight innings.
But what they were able to do was, you know, have a lead in all three of these games.
This is probably gravitating right towards a loser talk.
But, you know, it's one of those situations where it does feel like, you know,
You know, the Diamondbacks had some very encouraging things about this series,
despite the fact that here we are talking about them getting swept in the opening series
against Los Angeles Dodgers.
I think this is the worst case scenario.
Everything bad that could happen to the Diamondbacks happened in the series.
Losing leads, having your bullpen implode, having your starting pitcher implode,
getting embarrassed on opening night, coming close to winning all, you know,
not all three games, but two out of the three games, coming close to actually winning the series,
but not coming out on the other side of it because late you couldn't add on runs and your bullpen
couldn't hold a lead. So here you sit after three games being swept. And Damon's already thanking
fans for coming out. He's thanking fans for their season and for their support. And he's ready to
move on to the CBA in the 2027 season. Me, not so much. I'm going to give it a few more games
before I start to overreact. This is the Dodgers and they are an excellent
team. So again, loser talk, moral victories, however you want to put it, I felt like the
debacks did a great job outside of the first game of hanging in there with this team. You know,
the first game was an ass kicking and an embarrassment, you know, and something that we wanted to
put on them versus them putting on us. But, you know, again, the Diamondbacks have a lot to address.
They did have to play perfect baseball in this series and they did not. And tonight,
Quite frankly, I think that they played as well as they could have.
Like tonight wasn't a night filled with mistakes like we saw in game one in game two.
They didn't give away outs and potential runs on the base path.
We didn't see them making those kind of mistakes.
It was just really a lack of offense, a lack of being able to do much against Tyler Glass now.
And then once again, once he exited the game, not being able to do anything, anything at all against this Dodgers bullpen.
Right.
but it's also very frustrating that already here in this first series,
the two guys that kind of blew the game,
and you probably couldn't say,
opening day is just so weird,
that the offense didn't do enough there.
Tonight they put up the same effort, two runs, right?
This one, the pitching staff was able to hold it close enough
that the Diamondbacks almost had a win,
and then, you know, they bent and had their bullpen break there in the eighth inning.
On opening night, it was just probably more of,
maybe if it was a four to two game,
the offense might have been able to put up
a little bit more of an effort,
though, who knows,
because we don't live in that alternate reality, right?
We live in this one where they lost all three games,
but if they would have been able to maybe hold it a little closer.
What I'm saying is disappointing about both of these games, though,
is the pitchers that gave up those runs in those innings.
It was Taylor Clark in game one,
and tonight it was Juan Mottio.
The two most consistent pitchers from the Diamondback Spring,
the two most consistent pitchers of Cactus league play.
Paul Seawald was good, but he wasn't these guys, Morillo,
and Clark both gave up one earned run in their outings during spring training
and looked like they were going to be huge additions to the pen
and guys that the Diamondbacks could count on in high leverage situations.
Instead, you have Clark giving up four earn runs on opening day,
and tonight our guy Juan Murillo giving up, unfortunately, two earned runs on a night
where the Diamondbacks had no room for mistakes to be made.
So now they look forward to their next series back here at home,
and hopefully they're mad.
Hopefully they aren't as mad as Damon.
Hopefully they are not ready to thank the fans for the 2026 season yet
or qualify themselves as being eliminated from playoff contention.
However, I hope they're mad that they come back here
and feel embarrassed and want to ensure
that they are the ones that do the embarrassing at home when they play our guy Noah's Detroit Tigers.
And I've sat here now rambling on for, what, 15 and a half minutes without even acknowledging sweet, sweet baby Noah's presence behind the Mac.
So Noah, hello, we're going to get into it about the Tigers later.
But it's been a big night here at PHNXHQ, isn't it?
It's been very busy around here.
Oh, my goodness.
It's a madhouse in this place.
It was.
We're watching multiple basketball games, the Diamondbacks fight, or, well, you could call it fight, and the UFC fight in a very, very bloody UFC ring.
So it's been a busy night.
We've been trying to keep up to date on everything.
Chief Crazy Buffaloes ready to DFA, Morillo.
Maybe.
I don't know.
I know we're probably not there yet, but I will say that it does feel like the Diamondbacks might shift here quickly with the other options that they do have.
They had a lot of guys battling for bullpen positions, so it's going to be interesting to see.
how quickly they turn to perhaps bringing Brandon Garcia,
their only lefty that they were going to count on,
who didn't have a very good spring and was moved to option to AAA Reno,
wonder how fast until they go to him.
And it's also, again, just somewhat depressing that the arms that you truly thought
you were going to be able to count on coming out of Cactus League play
are the ones so far that haven't been good.
But on the bright side, there are a couple of good things here defensively.
the Diamondbacks held Otani in the series to just one hit.
He did extend his on-base streak and continues to have the longest active on-base streak in baseball.
But right behind him, looking right over his shoulder, is Geraldo Perdomo,
who's been doing it with actual hits and not just walks like Otani's been doing.
They also have kind of made that guy Kyle Tucker look like a fraud in this series,
a chinless fraud.
So I'm okay with that, but there's still a lot of questions here about the D-BACs offense.
And we're going to talk about that on the other side of this break.
That is one of those things that makes me feel very concerned because we thought the offense was going to be fine.
And boy, is it not fine?
Noah, the offense is not fine in this series here.
But I did want to let you guys know that we do have our opening day offer right now.

One last comment I do want to make.
Johnny LaZania is catching on.
I don't know how Jonathan Loisica is going to feel about this
when he finds out,
but we already have our first Johnny Lausagna meme being made.
And this, this emoji is going to be for Johnny Lausagna going forward.
Very much a non-Italian man,
who we're probably going to throw a lot of Italian stereotypes on.
And we're going to have a good time doing it.
But we are going to take a quick break.
On the other side of this break,
we are going to talk about the offense
or lack thereof, once again, for the Diamondbacks,
and we're going to not be happy about what we saw.
Don't you go anywhere.
You're watching the PH&X Diamondback show.
Tonight is a night that I could use some Pure Edibles.
I might go Raid Connors' office
because pure edibles can make me feel better
about watching your team get swept,
my team get swept,
also about decisions I'm making,
like switching this podcast over to being a Savannah,
Savannah Bananas podcast. But I will tell you, Pure Edibles has a wide variety of candies with a wide
variety of delicious flavors and effects that you will find on each tin, clearly listed on each tin,
probably a banana flavor in there. There's some wonderful flavors including starfruit,
strawberry, raspberry, wonderful things you can find in a wide variety of different candies you
can find as well. Gummies, hard candies, chew, soft candies. They have their version of Starbursts
that they call kicks and new stuff that they're coming up with every single day. Plus,
They have their collaboration with one of my favorite breweries in this entire state.
Mother Road Brewing Company, these two wonderful companies bring you the Tower Station IPA all in one.
That's right.
The same delicious Tower Station IPA you know and love.
Now in a portable all in one THC device.
Same citrusy, piney hops notes, all of that deliciousness that you get in there, but now in a THC all in one.
So go find yourself some pure edible products from one of over 130 dispensaries across this fine state of Arizona.
And let me tell you, game time is here and baseball is going to be here.
We got a day off on Sunday, but on Monday we got our opening day and you can get your tickets for less over at game time.
And of course, their app is amazing.
It's innovative.
It's always coming up with new ways to get tickets to you, get you the best tickets and get you those tickets fastest.
Reliable tickets that you can count on being actual tickets and not being something that just dissolves as you get close to the ballpark.
But of course, right now with their in-house features, you can get, you can pick a zone, an area of the ballpark where you want to sit, and game time will find you the cheapest deal in that area.
Plus, fees are included when you look at that ticket price.
So there will be no surprises at checkout.
You'll know exactly what you're going to pay.
And you can also see what your view is going to be with panoramic view.
You can see what you're going to see, how the field's going to look.
And again, no surprises when you get down to the ballpark.
So take the guesswork out of buying tickets with game time today, especially.
those MLB tickets, download the GameTime app, create an account, and use code PHNX for $20 off your first purchase.
Terms do apply. Again, create an account and redeem code PHNX for $20 off.
Download the Game Time app today. Noah, what time is it?
Game time. Oh, that was a good one. That was a good one. Holy cow. All right. Well, your game time there that you dropped on me is much better than the Diamondbacks offense. Because once again, another,
night where the Diamondbacks were only able to score two runs.
And they should probably be thankful that they're pitching held them in this game this
much.
Like that's what I will say.
Like they should be thankful that they had a two one lead going into the eighth inning
because they shouldn't expect to win a baseball game against this Dodgers team and their
low riders and their championship trophies and their fans fighting in the stands against each
other, by the way, two women going at it yesterday in game two.
Fantastic.
great, great, great stuff from the left field, I think left field bleachers, but no, they
have all that going for them and you expect to win a baseball game only scoring two runs.
You know, that's the part that was difficult to watch tonight.
And it's, you know, just been kind of a lack of effort here from their stars, really.
I mean, again, Cattell Marte 1 for 3 with a walk.
You got Corbyn Carroll scoring the only run of the game and getting the only RBI.
He was involved in all of the scoring.
he was one for three with that RBI and Pardomo was one for four.
The Diamondback's only extra base hit was a double by Jorge Berosa tonight who was one
for three with two strikeouts.
And that's it.
That's pretty much it.
Oh, and Pave and Smith was one for four.
Pave and Smith had the other RBI and he had two strikeouts tonight.
Nothing from Nolan Aronado, who looks absolutely lost at the plate.
And it's sad to see because he is not contributing.
And I don't feel like things are getting better.
I feel like they're only getting worse for him.
At least from Carlos Santana,
we're seeing some decent at bats,
but not really tonight.
You didn't really see the same at bats
that he's gotten in game two out of Santana.
He was 0 for 4 tonight.
Alec Thomas O for 4 tonight.
You know, James McCann, in place of Gabby,
over 3 tonight,
and then you had Barrosa with the double
and the only extra base hit.
One extra base hit, two runs scored.
That's it.
And it's, I'll tell you, man,
it's not enough.
it's not enough to expect your pitching staff to be able to hold that kind of lead
and not to pat it with runs and it's not enough from their stars you know you got you got
corbin carroll right now hitting 182 with a 349 ops i know he's still recovering from the haymate
injury and i can tell like he it still looks like he is very much um grimacing at times when he
is at the plate but just overall man i will say you really don't you know
you really don't win games.
Even in most baseball games, only scoring two runs.
You're putting entirely too much on your pitching staff.
And that was two out of these three games where they were only able to put up two runs against the Dodgers.
But again, it's the Dodgers.
So credit where credit is due.
And more importantly than just what they're starting pitchers who are the all stars and the superstars on this team,
they're, you know, their bullpen did it to the Diamondbacks.
Their bullpen held this team.
Just like in the same way, once again, for the Dodgers,
it's guys not named Otani Tucker or Betts doing it.
It was Will Smith once again.
Freddie Freeman finally got through tonight.
He was three for four tonight.
So he had a big night for the Dodgers with one RBI.
But you know what I mean?
Like it just, it's still, you got Miguel Rojas going two for two.
You got Will Smith going one for four with those two RBIs on that big home run.
And it continues to be the guys, at least in this series, not at the top of the lineup.
that hurt you. Tucker did get the big RBI hit that put them ahead in game two, but overall
in this series, it just felt like the Diamondbacks, you know, did outplay the Dodgers at times.
However, I'm not going to say that about this game the same way it did Game two.
Game two felt like overall, you know, the Dodgers just had some condensed scoring runs that
brought in runs and that was it. And outside of that, the pitching staff, both bullpen for the
Diamondbacks and the starters were able to do a pretty good job against this Dodgers team.
Once again, tonight, the pitching staff did a great job.
But this wasn't a night where they outplayed the Dodgers because their offense was just so abysmal.
And I guess at least, doesn't it feel better when you can blame it on mistakes being made?
I feel like that's the case.
I feel like if you could look back at a game in the same way that you could last night's loss and say, well, look at Alec Thomas oversliding over the base, them sending pavement.
There's excuses.
there's reasons.
There's runs that could have been scored here
where the outcome could have been different.
I don't know if that's the case tonight.
Glass now did an excellent job.
They had a great game plan against this team.
But more importantly, unlike previous years,
once again, this Diamondbacks team
isn't able to knock the starter out of the game
by putting together some good lengthy at bats,
getting to the bullpen,
and then finding themselves being able to crack that bullpen
and put up runs against the pen.
That did not happen in this series against the Dodgers.
And again, that that just goes to solidify how good this Dodgers team is and how scary they're going to be this year.
They went out and they got Edwin Diaz who had skunked the Diamondbacks in the series and did exactly what they brought Edwin Diaz in to do.
And again, the Dodgers pretty much were a complete team already.
And the few weaknesses that they had, they definitely addressed those weaknesses.
They also way overpaid for Kyle Tucker.
And I'm fascinated to see how this season goes for him.
I still maybe have just heard Damon say it one too many times.
I was telling I was telling our guy, Noah,
that I feel like I might have been brainwashed a little bit by Damon.
But after watching Kyle Tucker in the series,
and he did rob Geraldo Perdomo of a weird home run that was in a very short,
that short, you know, right field like fence situation that he just kind of like
reached over the fence and grabbed it.
Yeah.
What a weird wall.
I mean, it's, it was.
It's like, oh, we'll just make this wall so our outfielders have a really good chance to get the easy home runs.
Get these easy home runs that would be those like right down the line.
Yep.
You know, foul pole type home runs that usually kind of sneak right in like that, right?
Yeah, what are, yeah, not a fan of that wall.
But again, Kyle Tucker, I don't know.
I don't know if Kyle Tucker and his 266 batting average from last year is going to be worth.
the Dodgers paying him not only in his contract and what he earns, but in penalties,
more money than several teams are paying their entire 26-man payroll.
But again, the Dodgers also know that the CBA could change everything,
and there's a good chance that all of these deals that they make beforehand
are going to be grandfathered in,
and they are going to be just fine for the next foreseeable future, right?
I did have some Dodgers fans.
I mean, we have Dodgers fans in every one of these episodes, and I welcome you here.
I want you to know that.
You think you come here dunking on me?
I'm happy for the view and the comment.
We appreciate it, whether it's negative and you tell me I'm an idiot or some of them,
which have actually been quite pleasant and agreeable.
But what I will say is there was some comments about like, how is the CBA going to change anything?
And I mean, honestly, even us on this program have admitted that with our new Walmart business daddy,
we might not want the CBA to change things much.
But what it will change is the future of baseball.
And hopefully what it changes is, again, as we've said,
we hope that the new CBA doesn't change much with what the Dodgers are doing
besides maybe putting somewhat of a salary cap,
even if you want to make it a ridiculously high salary cap on the Dodgers,
still some sort of stop point where they or any other team can't spend more money
than X amount.
But it's more important that a salary floor is implemented.
I make these jokes about Kyle Tucker,
but there's no reason why there should be 10 teams in baseball
paying their 26-man roster less money than the Dodgers
are going to pay Kyle Tucker in his contract and penalties
associated with him.
So why not?
Why not go out there and make those teams spend more money?
That's great.
Let's see here.
We got Michael Dixon in the chat asking,
why is Juan Monillo still here?
Great question.
Great question.
Juan Murillo's here because he had a really good spring,
and the Diamondbacks sincerely had a competition for that final spot.
Andrew Hoffman is also here because of it.
Brandon Garcia is not here because of it.
Philip Abner, not here because of it.
The fact of the matter is both of these guys had better stuff
and were far more consistent this spring than any of our left-handers were,
and it leaves the Diamondbacks in a position where it allowed that opening day broadcast team
to be like, can you believe they don't have any left-handers?
like the whole time. Like, yeah, we don't get it. Get over it. That's the way it is.
In fact, a lot of teams only carry one lefty. So we're acting like as if, you know,
the Diamondbacks are being egregious by having done. Most teams only have one left-handed pitcher
in the bullpen. But also, hopefully we'll have more once AJ Puck returns and maybe once
Brandon Garcia can get things back on track. But they also need them. They need them. I will say,
though, I will not be surprised if the Diamondbacks once again have a short leash, though,
overall with some of these relievers and if we see multiple bad performances, there's a good chance
that they could be if they do have options, option to Reno and replaced by somebody else. So
maybe that's enough to keep these guys pitching well, but that's not the problem. The problem
is offense. Let's talk about it. Juan Murillo gave up one run, yes, or two runs. Excuse me. That
sucks. That sucks. But it also shouldn't have been a thing where the Diamondbacks only had a one-run lead
in a two to one ball game.
And I know there's going to be ball games like this throughout the year, right?
Like I'm not, not expecting the Diamondbacks to not be able to win close games.
And if they can't win close games, then they're not going to be a playoff team.
Period.
They have to figure out how to win close games like this.
But asking your bullpen to not let any run score when it's the Dodgers is a difficult task already.
But, you know, again, two runs being scored by the Diamondbacks.
That, that again.
is probably the far more concerning part to me than Mordio giving up that home run to Will Smith
and the walk to Mookiee bets. So we'll see, but it's more about consistency and if he can,
if he can remain consistent. Now we got Michael asking about Damon's whereabouts. You can find him
right now on this channel screaming two doors down from where we're at right now to offices over.
I can hear him. I can hear Kevin. I've heard him the whole time. They're happy.
over there. They're having a good time on the U of A podcast.
Over here on the D-Backs podcast slash Savannah Bananas podcast, maybe not so much.
Maybe not so much, right?
It sucks.
But anyway, Diamondbacks need to figure out a way to get their offense going.
Maybe perhaps a change to the lineup here.
I still don't love Cotel Marte hitting leadoff.
And that's something that I think should change.
I know Cotel has to hit first or second.
me and Damon kind of disagree.
I think Pardomo's fine hitting in the three hole,
but Pardomo was very successful as their leadoff hitter.
So maybe swap those guys around.
Maybe put Marte's second.
Maybe we see Pardomo lead off, Carol in the third hole.
I know Carol doesn't have very much power right now,
so perhaps you just have Carol hit lead off for the time being.
But, you know, we need to figure out a way here to change things up
and get, you know, Cattel Marte more get him active, get him going.
Carol, I still think it's going to take some time, but, you know, Pridomo and Marte kind of need
shoulder to load. More importantly, we need bigger contributions from Nolan Aronado. We just need it.
I mean, again, he has luck lost and I am just upset about it. Zach, I agree with you. He said
Arnado's quality of A-Bs are just atrocious. And it's wild too, right? Because again, Carlos Santana
is not having a tremendous amount of success more than Nolan. He's hitting 11-11. Nolan-Arenato
hitting 091 right now.
The problem is Arnado just does not look like he's, he looks lost.
Like he legitimately looks lost.
He's, he's taking pitches in the strike zone that he has no business taking on like
an 0212 count.
He's swinging at pitches that aren't even close to the zone.
Like there's a lot of problems right now with Arnado and there's a, I think, a desperation
to his swing.
He needs to just relax.
He needs to try to take what's coming to him and figure out how he can get
back to being not an all-star, not what he was with the Rockies.
We should not, nobody should expect that.
But I do think that he still has what, you know,
what he was in 2024 inside of him.
And Michael wants to know how much of a leash we will give Aronado,
probably a fairly long one.
Because he's not costing this team a tremendous amount of money.
And he's still just an elite defender at third base.
So you're not going to necessarily.
just wash that away because you don't have a better option.
You don't have Blaze here.
I mean, Jordan Lawler was not really good at third base,
so it's not really something, an experiment.
I think this team wants to go back to.
They seem committed to Lawler as an outfielder,
even though he wasn't in the lineup tonight.
And I think that Aronado is going to be out there regardless,
because I think this team, once again, feels like with his experience
in this league and his experience as a ball player
that he's going to get out of the slump and start contributing at some point.
But until then, his defense, once again, is so good that you just don't have a viable
replacement over there that's going to be better.
You know, you might have a little bit better than a bat somewhere in your system.
You know, maybe Lou James Groover, who we already saw, gets the call up here.
You know, maybe they go with one of their younger guys to give them an opportunity.
That could be something I could imagine seeing.
But again, it would probably have to once again be where they have somebody.
who has options to be sent down.
Otherwise, it would need to be a DFA
or some sort of cascading moves
that impact somebody else,
one of their other bench players,
like an Ildemarovar Vargas or a Tim Tawa.
So I don't know.
But yes, Noah, baby sweet baby Noah.
With Aeronado too, obviously he looks really bad right now.
Yeah.
It reminds me a lot of Javi Baez
when he got with the Tigers.
Everyone was like, oh, my God.
He looks atrocious.
but his defense was so good at shortstop that you're like,
we kind of need him out there because there's nobody else on the team
that can play that position well at that spot.
And you just kind of have to deal with it.
Thankfully, Javi, last year for the Tigers kind of picked it up for a little bit
and played okay.
Well, and I think that's all we need out of Arnaud.
We need okay.
We need 250 batting average.
We need them to just contribute something offensively, but you're right.
But you have, you have Ketalmarte, Corbyn Carroll,
or Aldo Perdomo.
You have three all-stars.
Yeah, absolutely.
And those are the guys that kind of need to pick it up.
And again, it's understandable.
Carol, I still all my concerns.
I don't think this team would be jeopardizing Carol's health
to have him out there too early if he was out there too early.
He's already hit a home run without his stupid haymate bone
that none of us need and should be removed at birth
so that we call all be ballplayers and not have to miss time
with broken haymate bones in our hands.
But I do feel like Corbyn's still experiencing probably a tremendous amount of pain
and that pain is impacting his swing.
And he's giving advice to the other guys, you know,
to maybe use one of those ax-handle bats and such.
Because for him, that was something that helped.
But I do think that he is still recovering and, you know,
it could still be a while before we see Carol back to what we know he can be.
You know, not only do you have the pain that he's experiencing,
but you also have the setback in general where he missed a considerable amount of spring training.
And he's still not all the way up to 100% himself right now.
So I don't know, but offensively, this team needs to figure out its identity.
And they need to figure out a way to put more runs on the board,
especially with this Detroit Tigers team coming to town
because they are pretty good offensively.
They got a young guy named Kevin McDonagall that's playing some really good baseball,
and they have to figure out a way to try to win some baseball games here
and stop this bleeding.
So we're going to take a quick break.
On the other side of this break, we're going to take a look at the numbers from this series,
and we're also going to take a look at how the rest of the N Hell West is doing.
We're going to do that here in a few minutes.
Don't you go anywhere.

insured by NCUA. Membership is required based on eligibility. Some benefits require no cost registration activation, terms, conditions, and exclusions do apply. Well, Noah, these numbers are gross. They're not going to make me happy, but we do have to look at them. So let's take a look at buy the numbers here for the series. The Diamondbacks lose all three games, and they get out scored here by the Dodgers, 16 to 8. That is 16 runs to eight runs. Hits, of course,
Almost a push.
19 to 20.
Big difference here.
Dodgers had more of those long bombs.
They had five home runs in the series to the Diamondbacks two.
And then starting ERA here,
not great for the Dodgers,
4.70, which proves that the Diamondbacks did their job of getting to their starters.
But the Diamondback starters, worse, 5.27.
And then here's the gross part, the 0.00 ERA for the Dodgers.
Rogers bullpen to the Diamondback 6.10.
Blah.
Diamondbacks had to use their pen a lot, and they had some good spots.
They did have some bright spots.
I know that he did give up a run or a hit that resulted in a run,
but still think Jonathan Lozaga, aka Johnny Lausagna, it's been good.
Ryan Thompson looked very solid for this team, and, you know,
hopefully Juan Murillo shakes this one off and can get back to where.
he was. Same thing with Taylor Clark, because we desperately need those guys to contribute, especially
Clark, because I don't really think outside of him being a complete disaster for this team,
I don't think Clark is going anywhere. So he's going to be one of those guys that needs to find
his way, and he'll be in this pen most likely going forward. But Juan is a guy that is definitely
on the bubble and could find himself back option to AAA Reno. And I might not even be accurate
throughout that he might not have any options yet but pretty sure he probably is considering that
the decision the diamond backs made overall here to to keep him in the lineup and not bring up
one of their left handers but overall here uh the i guess the one good thing is that the n l west
has been getting their asses kicked the nl west has been getting their asses handed to them
in fact uh as as it stands right now outside of the dodgers being the i'm
being 3 and O due to sweeping the Diamondbacks,
the NLS collectively has one win.
One win, and it came tonight by the Padres
over Noah's Detroit Tigers in the finale of their series.
Meanwhile, the Colorado Rockies are 0 and 2.
The Diamondbacks are 0 and 3,
and the Giants also get swept by the New York Yankees,
0 in 3.
What happened to the division I knew and loved?
What happened to one of the most competitive
divisions in baseball. We aren't that anymore. That's for sure. That's for sure. But yeah,
again, that's the state of where we're at right now. And I mean, I guess it's a good thing, right?
I do find myself looking across the league and being like, all right, all right, Cubs are one
and one and one. We got the reds in one and one. We got some losses. You know, we got some things
happening. But again, the NLE East seems to be very tough. Marlon's undefeated, Mets undefeated,
Braves undefeated.
So we got a lot.
We got to take on those braves, not too long from now after we take on the Detroit Tigers.
And I saw some of you talking about it.
But yes, I need everybody to write all the angry letters to Rob Manfred and anybody else
who is part of the decision-making process for the Arizona Diamondback schedule.
Because this sucks and it doesn't get much easier.
But, hey, you know, it's happening at a time where,
Luckily, the Diamondbacks are also depleted of some of their best players who are currently injured, right?
So, yay, yay.
We do have Lordus Gueriel Jr. that should be coming back soon.
He should not take too much time.
We should also have Merrill Kelly, not missing a tremendous amount of time.
But we need Merrill to get back on track and not looking like he did there at the end of the spring
because he did not look very good in his final two outings.
Overall, though, I want to panic.
I want to panic.
I'm not going to. It's the Dodgers. And even though they want to send their fans in here,
and I specifically feel like it's the Dodgers sending their fans in here to leave the comments that
they leave, I will say that they're a very good baseball team. And, you know, the Diamondbacks just did
not play well enough to win any of these games, although they did hang with this team. Monday or Thursday's
game got embarrassing. Opening night got a little bit embarrassing. But, you know, I feel like
overall, this is not necessarily what this team is going to be.
I don't think that they're going to go zero and 163 or 162.
So I think we're going to be okay.
But I will say that they have a lot of things to address.
And right now, they got to figure something out when it comes to their, you know,
they're hitting and their offense.
If they've been taking batting practice, maybe they should stop.
If they're not taking batting practice, they need to take more batting practice.
I don't know what it is, but they need to figure something out.
Because again, this situation overall is still pretty crappy, pretty crappy.
But it's a $2 billion super team.
Let's not forget that, beating a sub 500 baseball team by just one run.
So, again, it's not, it's not overly dramatic about it.
Let's just hope that the Diamondbacks have a much better showing here against the Detroit Tigers,
Who we're going to talk about on the other side of this break.
I think we should do that.
Let's take a quick break.
And then we are going to talk about this series preview coming home.
Coming home here to Chase Field and how we need you guys there to provide the vibe.

Well, it is almost our opening day, folks.
We get one day of reprieve.
We got some banana ball happening here in the valley tomorrow.
That's why I'm rocking my Savannah bananas cap
and always, always respecting and appreciating the banana ball.
But we have the Detroit Tigers coming in the town
to take on our very own Arizona Diamondbacks.
And I know, Noah, that you are,
about it, you get a chance to see your other favorite baseball team.
That's how I'll phrase it.
Your other favorite baseball team.
Exactly.
How do you feel about our opening day shot here against one Justin Verlander with Michael
Soroka going on the mound?
This would have been a fire matchup in 2019.
Yeah.
What a weird.
I thought that was odd.
I was like, Justin Verlander, really?
You're like, that's not right.
That can't be right.
Justin Verlander versus Michael.
Michael Soroka?
Yeah, 70-year-old Justin Verlander.
That's right.
Getting back on the mound.
He's got to dust off his whole body before he goes out and pitches.
I mean, that's what us old guys do.
We dust off our whole body in the morning.
Once you hit 40, you're just very dusty every single day.
It's crazy.
The mites are getting wild.
Yeah, for sure.
I'm excited about it, though.
I think it'll be a good series.
I don't think it's going to be a sweep by either team.
It's definitely going to be a two-to-one, either tigers or
Diamondbacks.
Yeah.
And honestly, like when looking at the Tigers games, the pitching has been great.
Bullpen has been pretty decent as well.
But the offense really has been the rookie, Kevin McGonical.
I mean, it's been him.
And he was the big story of their camp, right, whether or not he was going to make the opening day roster.
And everybody was like, it was crazy if he doesn't.
And now there's T-shirts already of him available for purchase on the internet.
Oh, yeah.
I mean, it's him.
It's really just the group of young guys for the Tigers and Colt Keith, Dylan Dingler,
the catcher, a bunch of young guys that are getting their bats going early.
But like when it comes to guys like Riley Green, Parker Meadows, Javi Baez, Kerry Carpenter,
they're not making a huge impact right now.
Or like Spencer Torkelson.
They're there.
They're doing some stuff, but like they didn't blow anyone away.
So I think this is something the tigers always struggle with their offense.
They rely heavily on scoobble and their pitching staff.
So I think it'll be a good, it'll be a good series for sure.
Well, we have a lot of young prospects kind of debuting, kind of becoming stars already.
And we got like Chase the Louder for the Cleveland Guardians that has been lighting the world on fire.
And it's just fun to see.
I think it's fun to see because baseball has such a hard problem generating new stars.
And even when you get excited about a young player, they kind of come up no matter how good they're doing in the minor leagues and suck.
You know, that's the part that's really been difficult in Major League Baseball history to watch has been, you know, the few guys that have the hype around them that come up and then deliver right away are very few and far between.
I remember Bryce Harper kind of being one of those guys.
Bryce Harper, definitely.
I was like, there is no way this guy is going to be as good as everybody's talking him up.
And then you were like, oh, damn, he is.
He's like a man immediately amongst other, you know, he's a star, you know.
So the Tigers have that.
Diamondbacks might have that in a few guys that are playing well at a AAA level.
And, you know, we have Ryan Walschmidt, who we're equally excited about.
But again, a guy that we don't know.
know when we're going to see here overall.
I'm just excited to be back at the ballpark.
I'm just excited to have like real Major League Baseball games.
And I am very excited for, you know, fans come out, start experiencing all the new changes
to the ballpark, get to see that big screen and the new, all the new ribbon boards and
everything that they have going on.
It's going to be a blast.
But more importantly, I think the Diamondbacks have expressed in the past.
wanting to have that support at home.
So again, it might sound cheesy.
It might sound cliche, but you need to be out there.
You need to be loud.
No offense to Noah's Detroit Tigers, but it's, it's, excuse me, I don't have any water.
It's one of those teams where we don't have to necessarily worry about that split that we normally get on opening day.
We usually get, you know, a Los Angeles Dodgers team here at home.
And then we end up losing half of the stadium to their fans.
And that sucks.
This guy, thank you so much.
He's going to not let me die here live on camera.
But I think that it's going to be a little bit easier.
You know, there are some fan bases that make it much more difficult, right?
There's the Cubs, the Dodgers, you know, any of the New York teams.
all of those kind of franchises being a team that the Diamondbacks take on in their first series at home,
much harder, much harder to have your fans come out and have a good showing.
But no offense to the Tigers.
The Tigers fans should not outnumber us on day one.
For this being a state of people from out of state, for the most part,
a lot of people move in here from different places, especially from the Midwest.
Michigan is not a very popular one.
Yeah.
You get a lot of Minnesota, Ohio, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, but not a whole lot of Michigan.
So we should be okay in that, that facet.
Where is Michigan on the other side of things?
So their people go to like Florida?
Yes.
Is that it?
Yeah.
That's like the back east thing.
Like you get plenty of people from like Boston and New York and stuff out here.
But typically their retirement down south is to Florida.
Florida and not necessarily to Arizona.
Exactly. That's the main
going. Plus, Michigan is a state
with a lot of water. There's a lot
of stuff to do. Not a whole lot of people
moving out like in some of these other states
where you're like, I am in Iowa.
Wow. Corn,
fields. This is awesome.
Yeah, no, I mean, you're right about that.
But I've had a few friends. My guy, T. Call,
is from Detroit. So shout out to him.
He makes me eat Detroit-style pizza
quite frequently.
Hell yeah. Tell him what up, though.
Yeah, he's a big Detroit sports fan.
I think that, again, though, it's just one of those things
that the Diamondbacks should have a majority.
It's sad to say this.
I don't know if any other fan base has to kind of go
through this conversation that we're having.
Like, boy, I hope there's more Diamondbacks fans
than the opposition on our opening day,
which is one of the most important days of the year
for this baseball team and one of the most important series.
but I do hope that's the case.
And again, it's something that I know I've heard the players talk about on camera in interviews,
but I've also heard them talk about it privately.
And it matters, man.
Like they care.
I know that sometimes we as fans think our presence isn't,
presence isn't as important as it is,
but I assure you to the players, they care.
And they want to see you guys out there.
They want to see, you know, they want that support.
They want the crowd on their side.
And it's something that unfortunately here in Arizona they don't always get, right?
So it's something that's kind of understandable that it kind of needs to be addressed.
And we got Eric a day with a lowercase woo.
We also have our guy, Kevin, coming in here.
You guys were yelling and screaming and having a really good time.
time over there. You kick me off this podcast one time and I wanted to come back and touch you
with some winning so that you can bring some winning to your team the same way me and Damon
have brought winning to the Wildcat. I don't love this at all. I don't feel like it's motivational.
I feel like I think it's egotistical. It is right? Yes. It's it's crazy right. And then they're like
look at how comfortable. He's got his hand on my shoulder right now. Look at him big brothering me.
He's big brothering the shit out of me right now. I can't believe.
believe this.
Oh, my God.
Oh, my God.
We are going to the final four, and I love you, Derek.
Oh, get out of here.
Get out of here.
Get out of here.
Get out of here.
Wow.
By the way, the Diamondbacks are 0 and three against Tigers last year.
And they got outspored 5 to 24 in those three games.
That's not great.
The outlook isn't great.
That was in Detroit, though.
Yes, it was in Detroit.
It was in Detroit.
And it was a little later in the season.
Yeah.
And I want to say it was one of those was like the morning game where Zach Gallen like does not do good in morning games.
It doesn't do good on the East Coast necessarily.
And those two things definitely combined.
But let's shake this one off, this series, this loss, everything.
Let's take some good away and let's hope that the offense can figure out a way to generate more runs than what we saw here against the Dodgers.
More importantly, let's let's battle back.
Let's get some self-respect.
And let's let's handle business at home with some tough teams.
coming in, including the Tigers and the Braves.
And we will be back for that game.
In fact, I'm going to be running.
I'm going to be doing a lot on Monday.
I'm not looking forward to it.
I might just sleep all day tomorrow in preparation for Monday,
but we'll have so much stuff for you guys,
including pregame and post game coverage.
We will be doing a post game instead of our normal 12 p.m. game
because it's opening day.
What the hell?
What kind of podcast will we be if we just did our normal 12 p.m. mailbag?
But speaking of a mailbag, that never goes away.
So make sure to send your mail mail.
bag Monday questions on Monday. We will
get them answered on the
post game show. So very much looking forward
to that. And let's turn this season
around. Let's make Damon take all of those
tweets down that he said the Diamondbacks were
eliminated already. We thank you guys so
much for your time. We appreciate you stopping
by tonight. We'll see you back here on
Monday with another postgame show.
Until then, you can follow us on social
media. I'm at Cap underscore Caveman
with a K. Damon,
who's here now,
And like here's here's this bullshit.
Like here you come with this bullshit.
I'm not,
There's no bullshit.
Are you going to come big brother me too?
No,
I'm not.
I understand that.
I understand that.
And I'm not here to patronize you as you were patronizing me at half time of the Arizona game.
I just,
I just wanted to hug you.
That's all.
And I want to hug you here, brother.
And I don't want to hug.
No,
I understand it.
I get the thing earlier now.
I wanted to say the people in the chat.
Guys,
like obviously going through a lot of positive emotions right now,
but let's get into D-back's mode for a second.
Let's get to night.
nightmare mode. What the absolute hell was this off season. Mike Hazen has blood all over his
hands, all over his hands. And it needs to answer for the crimes that have been committed because
the idea that he thought that this bullpen, Derek, was good enough to have a season that would
save his and Tori Lovolo's job is utterly shocking. They scored too. When it was two to one and I
asked you, are we winning this game right now? And you said, yeah, it's two to one. I said, Derek,
what did I say to you, Derek? It's the same thing.
I said to them.
That's an L.
I said,
this is an L waiting to happen.
Every D-Backs fan in the world
knew that this was an L waiting to happen.
It's an absolute disaster.
And Tori Lvolo and Mike Hazen,
the start of this season,
O and 3,
I think you can put every single one of the three games on them,
every single one of them,
where it's like,
what are we doing?
What is this direction of this franchise?
I hate it.
I want to be happy tonight.
And I can't because I'm thinking about the D-Backs right now.
Because every time I look at you, Derek,
all I can think about is this horrible.
franchise. You represent that to me. They scored eight runs in three games against the Dodgers.
And they should have won two of them. They should. I know. I know. I'm hopeful.
I was like, I felt like I was done being angry and then he came in and he made me angry all over again.
He filled, he filled my anger meter all the way up and now I'm ready to go again. Let's just do
another hour, Noah, because now I'm just going to scream for an hour straight. No, that's probably
not a good idea because my voice is trash. Noah had to save me with his water from dying a little
while ago. But we have never been more back because Roger Bessions is back. And let's just,
yeah, you're right, Roger. No more Sunday meatballs. At least not for me and Damon. We're not
going to bless them with our presence anymore until they get this whole offense figured out.

So let's keep it rolling. Thank you guys again for your time. Thank you for joining us here.
We will be back, like I said, on Monday with another postgame show. Until then, let's get some rest.
Let's re, let's flush this series. And let's, uh, let's, let's, let's, let's, let's, let's, let's, let's
things out on Sunday.
Thank you guys again.
Love you, appreciate you.
Noah doesn't want you to follow him.
If you follow him, unfollow him.
I forgot that.
Our show is at PHNX underscore D-Backs,
but all roads do lead to at PHNX underscore sports
on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
See you Monday.
And remember kids, baseball is fun,
but it's so much more fun
when your offense can put up more than two
goddamn runs.
