Well, the Arizona Diamondbacks did exactly what we feared they would do. They didn't really show up for their series opener in San Francisco. We have more on the loss and Kevin Ginkle melting down in the eighth inning, as well as the offense being inept. But more importantly, we have yet another chapter in Marte Gate. We also got our guy, Kevin Thomas, on the ones and twos tonight, helping us out. with three working limbs and one that's getting back to 100%. But we don't really want to talk about this loss. We will.

We'll recap it. But I think the bigger news coming from today, as far as the Arizona, Diamondbacks are concerned, is yet another chapter in this entire Cotel Marte situation. The D-BACs did lose this game by a score of 6 to 1, and that score doesn't really truly indicate how this game went overall. Kevin Gingle, not a good night, but more importantly, terrible night from this offense. But like we said, we don't want to talk about this. We're here in Las Vegas. We're having a good time.

Lots of sports going on at this beautiful sports book here at Circuit Day. It is beautiful here, Derek. gorgeous. This is like paradise for people like us. And yet still, it feels like a nightmare with all of this, everything, everything coming down, not just the Diamondbacks lost to the Giants tonight, but this news today about Cotel Marte, which really, I'm going to be honest, it doesn't even feel like news. It just feels like we're kind of rehashing the same stuff and kind of piling on. could tell a bit when it comes to like the things that his teammates and others within the organization might have a problem with when it comes to his behavior.

Yeah, I mean, I think that, you know, it's similar to potentially the Nick Picora situation last year where people were saying that it was piling on when I think that from a Ken Rosenthal standpoint, it might be just vetting of sources. It might be an accumulation of sources and a story that's been being worked on since it was a little bit hotter of a topic. but it takes a little bit more, you know, big J journalism than, you know, just immediately coming out with the quotes for it. That being said, you know, it does seem like it's a bunch of information that we already knew. It, I mean, like maybe it wasn't explicitly stated,

but it feels like it, you know, it goes without saying almost. The Diamondbacks, you know, knew Cateel-Marté was dealing with something. They were hoping he'd show up to the ballpark until game time. Then by the time, they knew he was at the hotel. then by the time that the game was over, they didn't know if he was at the hotel or not. Like all of that felt fairly self-explanatory, to me at least. It was because, okay, like the details coming out,

especially when it comes to that stuff, are like, well, remember when the Diamondback said they didn't know where he was? They actually did, and he was at the team hotel. Okay, I don't ever remember that being a major part of the story that they actually lost track of Cattel. It was more that Tori was very honest, honest and forthright that he hadn't spoke to Catell and he had no idea after the game

where Cotel was. Mind you, this interview occurred 10 minutes after the game ended and Tory Lavello was kind of busy managing a baseball game and not exactly getting a chance to catch up with where Cotel was directly after the game. But the athletics reporting here is more about just the details suggesting that Cotel has a trust and accountability issue overall inside of the clubhouse. and that extends beyond just accountability, right? One of the details that got focused on today

was the fact that Marte's friends, his entourage, sometimes eat in the Diamondbacks like team, you know, room, team cafeteria, I guess is what you would call it. I don't know what we'd call it, but where the team eats. Yeah. And again, being media, I know there's lots of sacred spaces, lots of safe spaces that we are not allowed in that is just for the team. And I say that not saying like, oh, it's just media not allowed in there.

No, it's usually just team personnel, period, not just not entourages, but not spouses, not really kids, even though children can, you know, or tend to be in the clubhouse, like with their parents, right? running around having a good time. I saw, I think, James McCann throwing catch, you know, like playing catch in the clubhouse with his son, right? So it's not to say that family members and friends don't come in the clubhouse, but it's not, it's just another thing that goes to show that there's a lack of awareness on Cattell's part about how what he's doing is impacting people around him, I guess. Yeah, I mean, I guess I hear that. and I think this is a fixable situation. This is something that can be worked out behind closed doors.

And this is where I can level with the people that are like, man, the organization is really handling this whole Catelle situation wrong and blowing it out of proportion. Like I don't think that that's necessary information to be kind of relayed to a journalist to make kind of an article like this. That feels like something that we can maybe hopefully work out behind closed doors. Maybe they're on their, you know, last stand with Cattel. when it comes to that kind of stuff.

And they've told him before and it just, you know, I was going to say, he doesn't listen. Has anybody asked him to stop doing that? It's possible. I mean, maybe not. I mean, I'm just saying maybe it's seen as some sort of egregious.

I just don't really care about this. I care about him wanting to play baseball for this team. I care about, you know, the idea that he, you know, he has this knee injury. And I,

I'm not saying that the Diamondbacks, you know, maybe handled it perfectly. But it seems as though the Diamondbacks at least felt comfortable enough that he could play. and DH that game in Boston and that he would get an MRI potentially after that and that

seems to kind of be where the disconnect was according to Gambo at least Gambo tweeted earlier today that it was basically surrounding that knee issue and I know that there was some stuff about you know it being a potential family member situation

I know we've heard conflicting stuff on that I think Gambo is fairly trustworthy when it comes to stuff with the diamond backs like as trustworthy as anyone in the valley, absolutely. It turns out there was a death of a family member. Yeah, did that, I guess. That actually did happen, but like that's what's weird, right?

It's like, after we found out this information in general about Catelle, then we found out, or we were told, Catelle's fine, his family's fine, his personal matter is something different. It had a lot of people questioning if it was mental health related or something else. And it's seeming that it turns out Cotel was injured. and felt like he was being made to play against his will, even though he didn't feel like he was, like, well enough to play. Yeah.

And also had the death of a close family member. Yeah. And that. Do you remember who reported that? I'm not, I'm not like. I think it was the New York Post, citing someone close to the March. Got you. I think I would like to see maybe a little bit more sources in that department

because it does feel like we've seen some conflicting stuff in that regard. And that's what I mean. And that's what's so weird about this is like not, not simply saying again at one point that the personal matter that Marte is dealing with is a death of a family member that, again, that feels like that would have been the first thing that we came out and said if it was that I don't know,

of a situation, but it's just, it's, it's all, it's all a lot. And again, it feels like it's a lot and then it feels like it's nothing, right? The other big detail today was just in, in regards to his teammates, kind of being fed up, fed up with this situation. And there was an anonymous comment made to the athletic from one of his teammates

that said, typical could tell just leaving, it is what it is. We heard comments from Kevin Ginkle, who I don't feel like was angry, but he just was very, again, honest. Isn't that what is what it is kind of sounds like? It does feel very much like the same comments that Ginkle made to us. I'm not saying it's Ginkgo. I'm just saying that that seems to be the shared sentiment between some people in the clubhouse.

Right. It is what it is. Like they're not surprised? No, this happened last year in some way, shape, or form, something similar to this, and that it's not exactly the most shocking thing in the world that it happened again. I don't know, man.

I mean, the comments from the players today were scaling, Derek. I'm not, like, I'm not saying that, again, I don't think it's unfixable. But, like, if you're reading, I mean, if you're reading these today, typical Kutel. just leaving it is what it is like you read. Another saying a slap in the face

in regards to Cattell being at the casino during the Reds game, calling it a slap in the face and that it was rubbing people's noses in it, which I think was maybe not the exact language we used, but kind of what we were saying when we're talking about that post-game show of like the Diamondbacks are mid-game

and you're on a Friday night in the heart of Scottsdale, essentially like, you know, almost, saying, hey, look at me, everybody, put the spotlight on me. And I think that that's just a bad look overall. And then you also have another player saying that Catell essentially said to his teammates, you guys don't need me, I'm not playing well, it doesn't matter. And then the next day he didn't show up at all. Yeah, that was after the Atlanta series, right?

Correct, yeah. Look, man, I'm not going to, I'm not going to say that Cattel isn't kind of a headcase, right? Like, it seems based on some of the things that we've heard that, there's a lot going on with Catella. And at times, those emotions and those moments can prevent him from doing his job. Or you could say cause him to perhaps make some bad decisions overall. But really, he's a superstar. Like that's, I mean, this is, I think it's sometimes it's a given to take, you know,

like when you have a really elite wide receiver in the NFL, what is it, what is it, you know, happen. It ends poorly a lot of the time. It ends with, you know, kind of some diva behavior. And sometimes it doesn't necessarily end that way. You just have to corral him and find the right mix of personalities to, in the locker room and in the clubhouse from a leadership standpoint, to get him and again, corral him. And I think that it's very possible to be done with Catell. I don't think the Diamondbacks Cotel relationship has to be over because of this. But I do think that you need a little bit of probably give. and take from both sides.

And honestly, like, I mean, I don't have, you know, a full read of the situation, but from based off what I can see, I think maybe Catell in particular needs to commit more to helping this franchise win baseball games. I mean, yeah, I'll agree with that. But I will also say just in defense of Cattel that this whole situation feels like he's kind of being railroaded here. We've, we've, and I'm not saying he doesn't deserve it to a certain degree. but the way that this has gone from

could tell missing time possibly for a good reason but possibly not like overall to people wanting him gone from this franchise is amazing and it's well I think it's a culmination of last year plus this year for a lot of people it's not just this year in a vacuum it's the fact that

this has now happened in two straight you know wild card races I guess and and you know he Ketalas called it quits for lack of a better word. 100%. And I mean, last year's was egregious. This year's is a mystery. I was like to say it's much more of a mystery.

Like last year just seemed kind of straightforward. Like it was the All-Star break. He went to the Dominican. It sounds like he made some bad judgments as far as like getting back in time and then missed a couple of games. Yeah. Diamondbacks luckily won. so there wasn't that big of a foul there, luckily.

Yeah. But that damaged his reputation. And that led into the offseason with all of the trade rumors. And I think that... He got suspended, right? Last year? Last year? I think so for a short period of time, if I'm not mistaken.

I don't remember that. I honestly don't. But you could be right about that. Chat, correct me on that. Yeah, chat, fact check us on that one. But overall here, I just hate the way that these details coming out today just caused spark such an anger in the fan base.

And I, like, again, I don't really feel like the stuff is unfixable. It's not like this situation where it's building towards a point where we just can't get past this and the organization needs to move on from Cattel. Like, that's just crazy to me. I still think he's one of the best second baseman in baseball. and that's even with all of his faults and his flaws. And as I've said, I don't think the Diamondbacks can really win big in the postseason

without Cotel Marte on the team. Like he's such a ceiling razor for this franchise. We could maybe scrape a playoff berth with Cote without Cotel Marte, but Cotel Marte needs to be in the lineup if you want to do any sort of damage in the post season. Ernesto says it in the chat. Ernesto says I watched and read several Dback players and many fans tell me in the last 24 hours

that this group of 26 are able to win without Catele. I don't know about that. Still feel that way tonight. Again, I think that we could, if things break right for us, we could, we could scrape a playoff berth without Cotel,

but there's just, there's no way you're beating one of the better teams in baseball in a series, you know, without that kind of guy with, and frankly, like, it's an overused term, but with aura that comes to the plate, you need that in the post season.

You need a hitters that, you know, as I keep saying, like strike fear into the opposing pitcher. And Catell is, is that guy, I think above all the, rest of the Diamondbacks hitters in the entire lineup, to be honest with you, even above

Corbyn Carroll, like when it comes to a pitcher being like, oh, man, like, this guy is just, he's hitting everything tonight. He's all over me. Like, he's going to, he's swinging as hard as he can. At the same token, like, because I agree with all of that. And I think that, you know, my sentiment definitely lies way more in the middle than most people who send it, which is a weird place for me to be, by the way. I was going to say, that's it. To be teetering rather than being, on one end of either side. Damon on the fence about anything? What?

You don't have a strong opinion on this one? I know this is probably going to bother some people in the chat. I haven't read the chat at all once tonight, which is very off brand for me. But it is bothering me a little bit, the idea that, like, the players that are speaking anonymously don't have the right to feel the way that they do.

Like, I feel like there's a, the pro-Katel side of things are like, who are these nobody clowns who won't put their name in face? on it and it's like, well, I mean, it's not, they didn't really make the situation happen. Yeah. They're merely commenting on it. And that you could say that maybe that's not exactly the best, you know, most together

locker room behavior. But again, they weren't the one that created that rift in the first place. So it's a little bit unfair to then, you know, maybe expect them to not have any sort of feelings or emotions towards, again, like, as I've said from the jump of this, one of their brothers being MIA when they're in the midst of a baseball season that is truly every single

game matters right now and everyone feels that in the locker room. Everyone knows that. And we're going to address some of your guys' questions in the chat. Love you guys. Appreciate you guys dropping those and you're right. I mean, I don't know. This situation, there's a lot to it. But I think

Cesar brought it up in the chat and he said, I don't think the endless news on this is helpful. And we might not be helping that. No, we're not, but we have a job to do and so a lot of other people. And, and I mean, again, we're more talking about the fact, uh, similar like to what, how you feel, Caesar, that it once again has become news. It's not like the information is much different. It's just more details are coming out. And for some reason, those details, just like a lot of the information coming out about why could tell missed a game without

communicating properly with his team that he was going to miss that game. And for some reason, why that's become an issue, right? Like, this all could have been avoided. This could have been no news at all. But instead, it does become kind of this ongoing saga, as we've discussed. Yeah. But Cesar says there should be accountability among some of the media. Gambo wants him not to come back at all and traded.

His disdain is obvious and has crossed the line. And I will say that. I don't disagree with that. And I, as I've said on this show many times before, I like Gambo quite a bit. I don't know particularly why he has taken such a strong stance on this. I don't think he's posted his pictures of himself opening up the limo door just yet when it comes to Catel. But you're right about that.

And I don't think he's the only one. I feel like other people have taken this stance on that. And that's why I feel like personally, I feel like I'm kind of overwhelmed with the railroading of Cotel Marte. Yeah, that's too far from me. Like again, like I think that the answer definitely lies somewhere in the middle. He holds accountability and responsibility for the way that all of this has gone down. It could have been a much, much, much cleaner situation if he handled it correctly. And that being said, you know, I also don't think that we need to rake him over the coals for it for a month and, you know, use it as fuel to distract the entire Diamondback season for the remainder of the 30 or so games that they play left.

right? Like it's enough is enough at a certain point. Exactly. Exactly. But we're going to continue to do Cotell Martei podcast in the meantime. Hey, I don't, I don't want to, but as long as there's news, I'm going to make them. As long as there's news, we have to, right? And again, right now it's more about his actual return. And again, Marte's expected return is as of August 31st with the Philly series. And the Diamondbacks are going to need them. That three game series with

the Phillies is, that's their season. There's seasons on the line. And again, you know, Cattel has resumed baseball activity. It appeared that at least for the, for the most part, that the knee injury wasn't fake. And again, that is baseball activity has been increasing. But overall, the focus, and we've even focused on it,

is how is Catell going to get back? He's going to come back and he's going to make some apologies. They're going to have a team meeting. and he's going to move through it, what he says to some is going to be satisfactory to what he says to others is not going to be. Some will accept his apology, some won't. And they'll all be adult professionals

and they'll all move on. I don't think Marte returning to this team is going to be a problem. What's a problem is them scoring one goddamn run tonight against the San Francisco Giants and losing just their second game of the season out of 10 to this team. and this is a time where not only do they play a lot of games in a short amount of time,

four games in three days, but this is a time where they needed to beat a team like this. This is a time where they needed to stack wins against the Giants. And this series opener really sucked. But what sucked the most was Kevin Gingles' performance in the eighth inning. And we're going to talk about all of that on the other side of this break. Don't you go anywhere. And as much as we wanted to have a little bit more excitement, the Diamondbacks did not provide us with very much. They lose this one to the Giants, six to one. It was another pitching duel for the majority of this game, another low-scoring affair until things went sideways on the bullpen late.

but the Diamondbacks do drop to 71 and 64, and they are now eight and two in the 10 games played against the Giants, which is still pretty good. But what the hell was that? And what is wrong with our offense? I mean, I felt it coming. I felt like in the finale for the Cubs game, we kind of talked about it briefly.

That's like they did enough, but you still got to be concerned about this offense. Well, tonight they certainly did not do enough. No, they did not, Derek. death taxes and the Diamondbacks stooping to their competition, uh, right off the back of a really, really good series that has you feeling like,

man, this team really might have what it takes to make the playoffs. Sure. Now they put themselves in a hole again where it's like, I think that game one of these, you know, series against like three game series against inferior opponents is the most pivotal game.

Yeah. Because then you almost, you know, you just need to split the final two to win the, series you have you're playing with house money if you win that second game and you go into that third game and it's like we're we've already won the series anything more as a cherry on top a sweep would be fantastic but when you lose this first game now the diamond backs have have to win the final two games of this series right to not drop a game to the giants which would be a

frankly a disaster at this portion of the season so i i you know i this losing these first games of these three game sets is really, really pivotal right now, especially when you're playing against teams as bad as the Giants. And this was about as bad of a start as you possibly could have drawn up for this series. It was an absurdly embarrassing night for the DeBacks offense. They were held to just one run and six hits in this entire baseball game. Perdomo walked to lead off the second inning being the only base runner for the Diamondbacks there and the first two innings. But that did extend his on-base street to 15 games versus the Giants. That is the third longest active streak against the Giants behind Sal Freelich,

Kyle Schwerber, and Bryce Harper. Those guys have really brutalized the Giants. Bryce Harper has a 28 game reaching base safely on base streak against the Giants. Lars Newbar singled with two outs in the third, but he would not advance. And that would be the entire offense through the first three innings. Gabby Moreno then would change things. He would hit a lead off home run in the fourth inning to tie the game up at one. And Damon, I don't know where this team would be without Gabby Moreno,

just like I don't know where they would be without Erod this season. It was just his 11th home run at the season. And you made a great point about it when you said like, it doesn't really feel like it's just his 11th home run of the year. Well, he's just been hitting the shit out of the baseball and then he only has 11 home runs. To me, that's just kind of wild. You would think that he would have maybe closer to 15, 16, 17, somewhere in that range. Maybe in the 20 range, but if you're, if you're very good at a lot of that.

two years ago you might predict something around 35. Sometimes we say crazy things, you know, on this podcast. Sometimes we take our shirts off. But this is true. Moreno is hitting 303 with an 854 OPS. And yeah, even with that 854 OPS, you would figure that that would, he would have some more bombs than that. I did go 110 miles per hour off the bat, 397 feet to left field.

And that would also extend Gabrielle Marino's on base streak. versus the Giants to 12 games. So he's also part of that pack that we discussed earlier. But huge wasted opportunity for the Diamondbacks. And tonight wasn't one where they had many opportunities, but it really did feel like they broke through then at that moment. You did in that inning because you loaded the bases after Gabby. Yeah.

After Gabby hit that solo shot, you load the bases, pressures on, and then you end up scoring none. None. Redomo's single. Yeah. Kepler lines out. You got towel walking. And then Fernandez hits that.

soft single that goes to the outfield. Like Damon said, one out. Vargas flies out, Walschman strikes out. That's the game. That was it. If you get a hit there, we're talking about a completely different ballgame, Derek, because then you're playing with a lead. Who knows if you can get a hit after that, maybe, you know, strings a couple together. Now this game is completely broken open.

100%. That was where you lost the game right there in the fourth inning, where you weren't able to get any of those runs across. Well, hell yeah, brother. And you could also tell, man, that, like, the offense just died at that point, too. Because they go down one, two, three in the fifth, one, two, three in the sixth, one, two, three in the seventh. Nice. And then almost went down one, two, three, and the eighth.

13 debacks batters sat down in a row after that base is loaded opportunity, including the two outs to end that inning. It was gross. Hell, yeah. It's disgusting. And, I mean, again, that's where you just feel like they're, there, they're, impatient. I don't know. Like it almost feels like they're just trying to get through this game. It feels like they're trying to make fools of us because they're, they know we're not ready to start a show yet, but they're like, screw it. Let's just go down swinging real fast. So these

jerks have to start their show after a two-hour baseball game. And that's what it felt like tonight. Two in a row. Gabby walks at the eighth to break up the terrible at-bats that we were getting. But then even he gets caught stealing to end the inning. And even when he gets on the base, he still doesn't, uh, yeah, you know, and that's,

that's just the way the night went for the, I mean, a risky move out of Gabby to try to steal. Yeah, I mean, again, with, with,

very fast for a catcher, but that, you know, it's, it genuinely, you know, that, again, like,

that's probably you're in a situation where you still need a couple things to happen and go right after that, but you would have had a good shot if, if Gabby could have got to second base there. Nothing went right for the diamond backs when it came to. No. Winning those,

like, pivotal plays that really, like dictate a game, all those plays felt like they went the giant side tonight. And mind you, this game was two to one that whole time. So it's not like this game was a, you know, completely out of control like the end score would suggest. No, the diamond back should have been up in this game at that point. Yeah.

But then they found themselves down six to one and we will get there and how Kevin Ginkle unfortunately made that happen. But in the ninth, another one of their best opportunities comes in the ninth inning. And it starts with a pair of singles from Perdomo and Kevold. to lead off the inning. Fernandez grounds out and then you had Vargas grounding out. Fernandez hits into the force out and then Vargas grounds out. And that's how the game ends. So and then, you know, you, you, you were already down six one. So it's not like there was much of an effort or much could be done there in the ninth inning to come back. But man, this game just somehow

felt far more winnable at one point than it actually was. And when they didn't convert any runs on that basis loaded opportunity, it's almost like the team walked out the door at that point with the loss. But it felt like this team was, can I just say a Catele-Marté away from winning this baseball game tonight? Get out.

Just go. Why would you do that? Why did you think you're funny? Did you think that that was funny? Do you think that that makes me feel better? Do you think that that I, why would he do that? Why would he do that?

It's a bit of a tight fit in the booth. he's actually having trouble getting out of the day. I, look, let you just go, go. Gabriel Moreno is our king snake tonight. Not Damon. Damon's not our king snake. That, I don't need that. I'll need that from him and I don't need that from you.

I don't got. Dave. Offense was trash. Any thoughts on Kingsnake Gabby Moreno? No, it's, I mean, he was the entire offense tonight. The offense was pathetic. Yet again, it feels like, you know, without some late game heroics against the Cubs. Yeah.

The Diamondbacks offense in general has just been really quite bad recently. Yeah, I mean. And you haven't been getting much from that end. So they win the finale two to nothing. They were held shortless in most of that second game that they won. The second game, it was so bad, you know, his two hits through five innings. I'm looking at Derek and saying this team just does, they look like they don't even care. One earned run in 20 innings pitched against Cubs starters.

Yeah. The offense is broken. It's still broken. Even though they won that series against the Cubs. It's like terrible. What they need is. they need a big day. They need something to happen here specifically in this giant series. It's not going to get any easier, right? It's not, offense isn't very easy to come by in San

Francisco in general. And then they have a double header on Saturday, which somebody had asked why they have a double header. And it's a stupid reason. But the reason is is because MLB had scheduled too many games for the Giants in a row. And due to that, they actually had, if they would have played a game on Sunday, their total games played in a row, would have violated a CBA agreement about how many teams, how many games a baseball team can play in a row. So we're stuck once again. This is actually a four game series then.

It's a four game series, right? You have the two games on Saturday, which, again. Two and two would still be a disappointment. You know, I know I'm talking about one and two, but two and two would still be a disappointment. I think three and one is kind of where you would have set the bar before the series. You'd have said four and oh, fantastic. Three and one were all good.

Two and two, pretty disappointing. One in three, oh, and four are disasters, but you get off to a really poor start to this one. Now you've got to win three in a row if you want to go three and one. Yep. Well, they got to do it. They got to win a lot of games. They're,

I feel like we're always saying this is a game saving win or season saving win. They all are because at this point, you know, today was a perfect opportunity to make up a little bit of ground on the Phillies and the Padres, both of which did not play today. And instead, we lose ground. Yeah. On a day where neither team played. No, boy, no.

Not great, but we're going to talk about why they lost ground, and part of it was the pitching staff, but not Jose Cabrera. It's you, Kevin Ginkle. We're not doing this anonymously. We're pointing right at you. We're going to talk about this on the other side of the break. Don't you go on where?

You kidding me? You're taking out the best part. I know, you're right about that, but. Jose Cabrera started tonight for the Arizona Diamondbacks. Not a bad night at all for Cabrera. Just not a long night. Overall, I think that's probably the biggest thing. Started off rough.

It started off pretty badly. In fact, he gave up a lead-off home run to the very first battery. He faced injured Gilbert, and that put the Diamondbacks down one-nothing. And it looked like it was going to get. much worse there in the first inning because he gave up a single to Rafael Devers and he gave up a one-out walk to Jonah Cox and didn't look like things were going to go Cabrera's way. But he actually settled in pretty nicely after that shaky first inning. He had a one, two, three second inning and a one, two, three, third inning. He gave up a lead-off single in the four to Cox, who stole second,

but that was the only base runner that he allowed in the fourth inning. And then in the fifth, he did hit Christian Cox, uh, cost to start the inning. and then allowed cost to reach on a misplayed sack bunt by Nate Furman, and that would end his day overall. But again, Cabrera's outing overall, not bad. Kevin, I think we have the pitch chart for Cabrera. You'll see not a lot of sense to this one. He was kind of all over the place.

He did throw a nice mix of pitches overall. He threw all five of his pitches fairly evenly, I would say. The cutter was his most used pitch, 26% overall in the outing. He got two whiffs on that. He did throw the four seam about an equal amount at 24% at maxed out at 95.3 miles per hour, average 94, two whiffs on that. He threw the sinker, sweeper, and change up. But again, it was, we kind of talk a lot of times about the pitches making a little bit of sense. You can sometimes see how the fastball sets up, the breaking stuff.

And that's not really the case here. It's kind of a chaotic mess there as far as, you know, pitches were concerned tonight. still get five whiffs total though and he still got four strikeout so let's power up that circle k strikeout meter uh who knows i don't think that we have the circle kickout meter are available that's all right that's all right for four strike it's an away game uh yeah that's true we are here away and we didn't bring the sign with us i mean if we stopped by circle k multiple times yeah i know but we didn't have the room in the cab to fit it kevin and you know it you saw how little lake space i had in the back seat where was the circle k strikeout meter supposed to go

I don't know. I don't like him bringing it up when he's the one that didn't bring it or help. No, I was just saying we supported it in other ways. We supported A. in other ways. Cabrera's line, four to third innings pitch, three hits. We left it because we had to take Kevin's stupid backpack. Oh, and it's with all his damn stuff.

And his scooter and everything. One walk for strikeouts for Cabrera. Like I said, not bad. Cabrera kept him in the game. Cabrera gave him a chance to win. And once again, it actually went better than some of the other, you know, pitchers that the dimebacks have called up like Mitch Bratt and Cole Drake, right?

Or Merrill Kelly and Zach Gallen, who we've had to endure all season long, essentially. Them too. But Cabrera gave up that second run after the, uh, Koss who was on third, scored when Taylor Clark came into the game and relieved him. Clark did get through an inning in two thirds without giving up any more runs or any more hits. He did give up a strike or he did get a strike out.

Lleizaga, Johnny Lazzania, once again, nails, one innings pitched, one strikeout. But Kevin Ginkle, disaster class tonight by Kevin Ginkle. Watch it. No comment. Do you wildcats guys want to talk about this? I got no comment. Are you just going to leave me out here to just talk about? What if I did this all season every time Merrill Kelly pitched like dog shit, Derek?

The fact of the matter is I don't because I view this as our D-BACS family. To me, it's not about, to me, brother, it's not about our college allegiance. It's not about ASU versus U of A. It's not about these. It's not about, you know, this, this is professional sports. Let's leave that in college. Let's leave that kind of discourse, you know, where the kids are talking about it, Derek. And let's, let's get serious for a second.

And let's talk about this professional baseball team that we've accumulated together. How about that offense helping the game? Needoff hitter Junghoo Lee to start the eighth inning. Then with one out, he gave up a single to Devers, an RBI doubled to Eldridge that scored Lee to make it three to one. An RBI single to Cox to make it four to one. An RBI single to Turner Hill to make it five to one. Do I go on?

Need I go on? You know what the winning run was today? The second run. Yeah. You know what matters? Yeah, it's not of that. It's the offense. You're right.

How about we help the gink by scoring some runs? A third inning pitched, four hits, four. Chad's going to love that, Kevin. Yeah. Juan Virgo's two-thirds of an inning. In all seriousness, though, I mean, like, obviously, Kevin Ginkle very bad tonight. It hasn't been pitching all that great as of recently. We noted the same thing with Taylor Clark.

Like, they haven't been necessarily having their best stuff as of late. Is what it is. Hopefully, you know, he figures it out. I think in the meantime, you definitely view Brandon Garcia, Justin Martinez, and Juan Murillo as your high leverage. guys over top of Kevin Ginkle right now. And then, you know, you go from there. I think Kevin Ginkle maybe has relegated himself to slightly lower leverage situations at

this point. People in the chat. It's getting me choked up. I'm emotional. People in the chat are suggesting that we're, we lose as a team. So you're right, Damon. I won't divide us anymore. Well, you know, it's just, Derek, I think that the proof is in the pudding there.

I have not mentioned ASU to be at blame for. the results of Merrill Kelly's league worst ERA among qualified pitchers. It sounds like you're doing that right now. No, I'm just saying that I haven't done it one time all season. So for people to then come at me, come at Kevin and be like, hey, Kevin Inkel sucks, that's on you fellas. Yeah. I don't think that that's necessarily ethical hoops, if you will. I've never claimed to be an ethical hooper ever in my life.

I think we can take a break now away from this and come back and get more angry about numbers from the night's game. I'm not done being mad. Diamondbacks lose this one, six to one. Both of these stupid teams had three combined extra base hits. Two,

home runs and one double for the Giants. The debacks one for eight with runners in scoring position. Giants three for eight. And that's why they won the baseball game. Look at the stupid hard hit percentages. 31.8% for the Diamondbacks, 31.6% for the Giants. I hate baseball sometimes. And this is when I do a special.

Six hits to seven hits, Derek, and you lost six to one. I mean, it just didn't really check out tonight. it really didn't you were every bit in the game the score line was not really suggestive of how the the game flow went but yet kevin's still right because that run that scored on cost getting hit by a pitch making it over to third and scoring was was the true winner game winner yeah but if vargy you know finds a way to get a hit with the bases loaded there one out then you don't you never know how many runs. The Diamondbacks could potentially score in that inning, you know? So

there's like inflection points in the game and those are them and again, the Giants on all of those inflection points, the Giants got the better end of the stick and the Diamondbacks were unfortunately, you know, the ones that were failing.

I also don't love Jordan Lawler being out of the lineup tonight for Max Kepler. Yeah, I mean, I literally just was like, why are we doing this with Max Kepler still? when, you know, as you've stated, like, he's not going to be on the postseason roster. And as of recently, he just really hasn't been playing all that well. He gets one hit tonight, I believe, correct.

Yeah. And he hit the ball hard when he did so. So fair play to him. But yeah, I mean, it- Still has the worst batting average in the current lineup right now with a 213 and a 594 OPS. I wouldn't say that I'd rather see him play over Jordan Lawler as of right now. Right. And I know that sometimes it's based on the matchups in the lineup,

starting pitcher and all of that. Jordan Lawler just needs to get in there and get playing time. You know, that's what's important is getting playing time, seeing live at bats. I know that they're trying to play the matchups to help this team win, but it's not helping. And this offense was trashed tonight. Yeah. Jordan Lawler is the kind of guy that seems to change games a little bit when he gets hot. And you're not letting him get hot, especially sitting him this soon after, you know, having so much time off.

and then being pulled from game two after getting hit in the helmet. I wonder if they're like scared to play him or they have like some sort of like, you know, yeah, there's like maybe there's a pitch count for lack of a better turn.

Yeah, like they're trying to ease them back and not like go super hard. I said I wonder. I'm not saying that that's the case. I just, it's, you know,

with his history and how in and out of the lineup he's been this entire season. Again, like we've talked all off season about like, man, this is make or break for Jordan Lawler this year. and when we've seen Jordan Lawler play, he's been fantastic, I would argue. Maybe not, that might be a little bit of exaggeratory, but he's been very good.

Especially defensively in the outfit. Oh, he's been, I think he's been levels better than I thought he was going to look in the outfield. And then offensively, I think he's looked, you know, the part. He looks like a guy that has, when he puts the bat on the baseball, which, you know, has been a lot recently. He's gotten better at hitting the off speed. The ball goes far. and he hits it hard. And so I think, you know,

I like what I've seen out of Jordan Lawler. We just need to find a way to keep him in the lineup all year. Well, the other question on a lot of people's minds today, besides what is going on again with Cattell, is why didn't the Diamondbacks add Gino Suarez? Yeah. The Cincinnati Reds waived Gino,

and he cleared waivers today, and he came back to the Reds. He was owed $3 million for the rest of the year. And, I mean, honestly, the truth is is Gino's having one of the worst seasons of his career. Yep. He has a 208 batting average. He has a minus

0.4 war. He has a 295 on base percentage and a 410 slug. He's just not good. And that's why. But when this offense struggles to put up more than one run against the Giants on a night like this,

it's hard not to sit there and say why not kick the tires on his 19 home runs and his 50s? 7 RBI. Yeah. No, I mean, I, listen, I was,

I was immediately on the, on the train of let's, let's get, let's bring Gino in. Even if he's not a starter, I think that, you know, he's a guy who can DH for you,

uh, in, you know, a lot of spots. He can be Nolan R and Otto's backup at third base. And he can kind of provide some cover at front base, potentially as well, a position that you've struggled to find a consistent starter at all

season long. People were pointing at me like the, there were a lot of people that were pro. uh, Gino over Kepler. So I don't want to paint out to be like I was being like attacked. But there was a few detractors that were like, why would we, why would we want Gino? You know, we need a guy who can hit against, you know, right handed pitching. Look at Gino's splits this year.

He's way better against righties than he is against lefties. He's done next to nothing against lefties this year. His splits versus right-handed pitching is, I'm not going to call them good, but they're better than they are against left-handed pitching. So I don't think that that's necessarily a valid argument. I would love to have a guy like Gino to bring off the bench if you make a playoffs as well. I think that like that's the type of player that could potentially change a game if he gets

in in the right spot and, you know, finds the right pitch and has the right approach. But at the same time, I think that the biggest detractor of bringing Gino back here, Derek, was $3 million for such a little portion of the season left. I bet you that the Diamondbacks for them, that's just not worth it. There's no way he makes a $3 million plus impact on this team. So it's just bad value for them, even if it would maybe make the team marginally better with your bench pieces. And I also know that they were up against the wall as far as their budget was concerned.

So like you said, that could be a big part of it. I mean, they had a 40-man roster spot and then they could have VFAid Kepler. So it made sense from a roster standpoint.
