Starting point is 00:00:00 The Arizona Diamondbacks found a way to absolutely ruin Lou James Groover's Major League debut, losing tonight in embarrassing fashion by a score of 14 to 1 to the Washington Nationals. We have more on Merrill Kelly's bad outing and why this one is very reminiscent of another game against Washington from 2025. Plus, what the hell is wrong with this offense? We're talking about it all right now. What an ass kicking. Welcome in to the PHNXD backs podcast. from Studio K.
Starting point is 00:00:45 Of course, this one, we're going to flush this one for sure. You know that. Welcome in. My name is Derek Montia, occasionally known as your mayor of P.HNX, and I am not thrilled to be talking about the Diamondbacks absolutely getting dismantled tonight
Starting point is 00:01:01 by the Washington Nationals losing an embarrassing fashion by a score of 14 to 1. Coaster 022 starts things off asking the right questions. He wants to know, is it over? Yes. It's over. And yesterday we were so bad. Oh, we were going to win the World Series last night, Damon, but it is absolutely over after losing 14 to 1.
Starting point is 00:01:24 Thank you, fans. Thank you, fans, eliminated from playoff contention. Damon get the graphic ready. Of course, that is Damon Dog, aka Damon Farrell on the ones and twos tonight. I would say he absolutely is our favorite Nats fan. I mean, not just our favorite Nats fan, one of our favorite opposing fans, right? Derek, you were talking about my nips hurt. Just like yesterday, wasn't I?
Starting point is 00:02:22 It was like a couple days ago. A couple days ago. I forgot his name and Damon didn't forget his name. He was on my nips hurt. How could you forget that, right? And your Nats definitely hurt us tonight. That's for sure. Speaking of Nips, I might not ever take my shirt off again based on the way that this team
Starting point is 00:02:38 performed tonight. And for some of you, that's a good thing. but for many of you, that's devastating news, and I know it. But the Diamondbacks lose this one tonight by a score of 14 to 1, and you can't even say ugly enough about how ugly this game truly was. The Diamondbacks got overwhelmed tonight by the Nationals offense. They dropped to 33 and 30, and all you need to know is that Adrian Del Castillo pitched for the Diamondbacks in the eighth and ninth innings,
Starting point is 00:03:05 and was their best pitcher in this game. That's, again, that's all you need to know about this game. That's it. We thank you guys for coming. We appreciate your time. You can follow us on social media. I am at Kappen-Ur-Mad-H. Damon is at Damon Dogg.
Starting point is 00:03:20 I told him this was going to be one of the shortest episodes we've ever done. He didn't believe me. But remember, kids, baseball is fun. So much more fun when you don't play the goddamn nationals. No, wait, can we do that? That way, I was ready to go home. I mean, it's late. And I don't want to talk about this baseball game.
Starting point is 00:03:38 You don't want to talk about this baseball game. But we do have lots to talk about, including, to be fair, This Nationals team is kind of a beast, right? We've talked about it a lot. When we're going over Team OPSs, we're always saying, wow, look at the Nationals there. Top five, top four, top six, right? The Nationals offense since May 6th is the top offense in baseball, Damon.
Starting point is 00:04:00 They are number one in runs scored. They were tied coming into today for first in home runs, and they did that shit. And then they were second in slugging percentage at 455. I'm sure that's number one now, after tonight's game. And they were, what was it, third in OPS at 782. Again, another stat that after scoring 14 runs against the Diamondbacks, I'm sure,
Starting point is 00:04:22 is probably first in all of Major League Baseball. So as much as it was shocking to lose this badly to this Nationals team, hats off to this Nationals team. Washington is a very good baseball team. They are very young. They are very hungry. And they have some good players on their team, including that James Wood, who is 17th home run tonight,
Starting point is 00:04:42 off of Merrill Kelly. I don't, I can't. Thank God he's not a Padre. Oh, God. Thank God he's not a Padre. Remember how badly we wanted James Wood on this team at one point? Oh, that was a long time ago. That was a long time ago.
Starting point is 00:04:53 I don't remember that. No, it was ages ago. Literally ages ago. I mean, he was a top prospect. He got traded for one soda. Yes, I know, I know. Well, I'm just saying it from the perspective of how much we like James Wood a lot. There's a couple of other guys on this national team that you have to like,
Starting point is 00:05:09 including CJ Abram and a few other guys who really, took it to us tonight. Wiles pretty good. They have, like, their lineup is actually really, really solid. They don't have a great pitching staff in general, but tonight, I mean, I think, you know, Griffin is probably the best that they got him or Kavali. So, you know, you got a really, really special pitching performance at a Griffin tonight. R.A. in the chat says, I'd like to thank the debacks for taking the night off so I could watch
Starting point is 00:05:37 the NBA finals. Yes, the reason why we went so fast once again is because I abandoned the space baseball team in like the fourth inning and came over here. So I could also watch the NBA finals here in this office and not do it on my computer while also trying to keep score of this terrible game. But yeah, you talk about the young guys. Drew Millis and Khybert Ruiz. Those two are one of the best catching tammons in Major League Baseball. So again, this Nationals team that might not get the credit they deserve or the recognition they deserve is an impactful young team. And again, they took it to Merrill Kelly tonight, who's stunk against the nationals. He walked the lead-off hitter, which was James Wood in the first
Starting point is 00:06:17 inning, and then proceeded to immediately give up a home run to Luis Garcia Jr. to put the Nationals up two to nothing. He hit Drew Millis with a pitch in the second inning, but no further damage was done. And then the wheels completely fell off for Merrill Kelly in the third inning. He gave up a lead-off home run, this time to James Wood. Again, the aforementioned 17th home run of the season. Then with one out, He gave up a single to Jose Tana, walked C.J. Abrams. Dylan Lyle then gets an RBI single. That makes it four to nothing. And then Jorbit Vivas hit a two RBI double to make it six nothing.
Starting point is 00:06:53 Lyle adds another solo home run in the fifth inning off Kelly to make it seven to nothing. And that fifth inning would be the final inning that Merrill Kelly pitched. If you look here at his pitch chart, he was just missing the zone tonight. That's a big thing when it came to what was going on with Merrill Kelly. It didn't feel like any of his breaking stuff was working for him. Specifically, as you can see here, with all of that green that is so far out of the zone, that's Merrill Kelly's change up. Was not having, did not have control or command of it tonight.
Starting point is 00:07:33 It felt like it just wasn't a really good pitch. He's kind of stayed away from every, like he threw everything tonight. He threw six different pitches, the four seam, the change up, the curve, the sinker, the slider, the cutter. But those other four pitches that weren't the change up or the four seam, he threw very little. And again, you just got a feeling looking at his pitch chart and the amount of pitches that he was throwing, the percentage of four seam fastballs that he was throwing, that nothing was really working for him tonight. He wasn't getting, you know, just didn't have a good feel. It felt like I didn't get a chance to hear from Merrill after the game.
Starting point is 00:08:10 This is me doing my best summarizing here. He did throw his four seam fastball, 34% of the outing at maxed out at 94.8 and average 92.4. Not very good. He got three whiffs on it tonight. The change up, he got six whips on. So he got six, you know, swing and misses on that. And he threw his change up nearly an equal amount.
Starting point is 00:08:32 He threw a 29% of the outing. So those were the pitches he leaned on. He tried to throw his curve. He threw that 12%. like I said, sinker 9%, 8% slider, 7% cutter. But nothing really felt like it was working for Kelly tonight. He did get through some, you know, innings that made you feel like he was rebounding as Merrill Kelly can tend to do. But then he would just immediately, you know, kind of gave up another home run or gave up another run in some way that kind of brought us back down to earth and realized that Kelly was having a bad outing tonight.
Starting point is 00:09:07 He did get four strikeouts, and that, of course, merits warming up and plugging in the Circle K strikeout meter that I did get to visit in person last night when I was shirtless. So it was good to see the Circle K strikeout meter so close last night. And again, four strikeouts tonight for Kelly. He goes five innings pitch for the Diamondbacks, gives up six hits, seven earned runs, three walks, and four strikeouts. It's kind of amazing how the wheels have fallen off for the starting pitching staff after they win. through such an incredible stretch with so many quality starts, so many solid performances.
Starting point is 00:09:43 I mean, starting pitching was doing such a good job that we were talking not that long ago about the bullpen needing to get more work because the pitchers were just going too deep in the games and it was causing, you know, these relievers to not get in enough innings pitched
Starting point is 00:09:58 or enough balls thrown, right? Instead, here we are, another poor outing from a starting pitcher and also kind of reminiscent of another terrible outing, Damon. Maybe this one was a lot longer than that one. But do you remember the yes hitter by Brandon Fought? I can never forget it. How could we ever forget the yes hitter, Damon?
Starting point is 00:10:23 0.0 innings pitched by Brandon Fought, six hits allowed, eight runs given up, two batters hit by pitch, eight batters faced, every single one of them scored. Guess what? It was also against the Washington Nationals. Nearly one year to the day, in fact, May 31st, 2025. Awesome. We missed it by six days.
Starting point is 00:10:49 We almost literally on the anniversary of the yes hitter had another yes hitter. I don't know. I'm not going to go that far, but Merrill Kelly early in this game very much looked like he was going to be given up a yes hitter. By the way, the D-backs lost that game by a score, Damon, of 11 to 7. And that team had way more fight than this team had in it tonight. That's for sure. Philip Abner recently called up due to Taylor Clark going on the bereavement list and the other moves that were made by the Diamondbacks involving Brandon Fopp being
Starting point is 00:11:26 optioned to AAA Reno and Cade Stroud coming up. Both of those guys pitched tonight. Not a great night for Philip Abner, who most likely will be making his way back down to the minors or maybe even being DFAed after tonight's performance. I'm not sure. And I don't wish that on anybody, but Philip Abner was bad tonight.
Starting point is 00:11:47 He very much took a game that was feeling unwinnable, and it felt like Abner's performance tonight just ensured that the Diamondbacks wouldn't have a chance to come back. gave up five hits, five earned runs, walked one, struck out two, and this is all in a single inning of work, which is pretty gross. He gave up two home runs and, you know, just was ineffective. And again, that was an inning and a third pitched by Abner. Cade Stroud came into the game. He gave this team one inning of work. He did give up one hit, one earned run and three walks. The walks were probably the more troublesome part, obviously,
Starting point is 00:12:31 Shrout's outing tonight. Didn't have great command of his pitches, but still, it felt like he had far better stuff than Philip Abner did, and it is what it is. But like I said, the best pitcher tonight, the best pitcher on this staff or this loss to the nationals was Adrian Del Castillo. Maybe this is the role we find for Dell. I don't know, but he was pretty much the best, like I said, the best pitcher tonight. So you know what that means, ladies and gentlemen, on a night where the Diamondbacks had six hits and only one earn run.
Starting point is 00:13:04 Adrian Del Castillo, the pitcher, is your king snake tonight. That's right, God damn it. ADC. Get your ass into the bullpen. One in two thirds innings pitched. One earn run, four hits allowed, no walks. Not something another pitcher on this staff tonight could claim.
Starting point is 00:13:26 They all walked at least one batter. They all gave up multiple runs. Well, I guess Stroud, he gave up one and run, but he still walked three and struck out one. Adrian Del Castillo, four hits allowed, and any and two-thirds pitched. He even got in more work than the other bums. Four hits, one earned run, no walks, no strikeouts. Adrian Del Castillo, your king snake. Again, I told you there was, I mean, like, there were going to be indications that this was a bad,
Starting point is 00:13:56 bad game, there's no bigger indication of how badly this game went than that right there, right? Am I right? Adrian Del Castillo coming out of this one with the Kingsnake, because there was no offense really to speak of in this game besides Aramis Garcia hitting the first home run that he has hit in a very, very long time. What were you doing four years ago? We're going to talk about that on the other side of this break because we are going to talk about the offense or lack thereof. And what the hell? Injure. general has happened to this team's offense. Don't you go anywhere.
Starting point is 00:14:30 You are watching the PHNX Diamondback show. Well, Heel of Riversorts and Casinos wants to help you have a better time than we're having right now. That's for sure. Starting point is 00:15:44 Thank you, Derek. Well, if you, see, I care. I care about Damon. I care about his well-being. I care about his health, just like I care about every single one of you. When the cameras are on. When we're on air, when we're off air, I scream at this man in office. If the people, you know, weren't getting a look into our relationship, Derek, I'm pretty sure you would have told me to shut up. Well, I mean, come on now. Not shut up. I would just tell you to get your shit together is what I'd probably say, Damon.
Starting point is 00:16:10 But I will also say that I care about all of you guys out there. And I hope none of you are ever involved in an accident or ever experience a serious injury, right? It's a very, very unfortunate series of events to go through. And it can feel very lonely if you don't have a. right team behind you. The lawyer that you hire does matter and that's why you should call Mark and Alexis Breyer first. They are the husband and wife law team and they are an attorney that's focused on your best outcome, not how much money the firm makes. Their team brings hundreds of years of combined experience and they have multiple certified trial specialists or excuse me multiple
Starting point is 00:16:46 certified specialists and personal injury and wrongful death. And that's important, very important, because in this state there are not a lot of attorneys that are specialists, less than one percent, of all lawyers are certified by the state bar as being specialist in injury and wrongful death litigation, making them experts in the field. They are ready to go to trial for you. They know what needs to be done in a courtroom to prevail in front of a judge or a jury. However, they cannot promise you the outcome of your case, but they guarantee the outcome of your case, but they can make some promises to you as their client, including that you
Starting point is 00:17:20 can cancel your fee agreement with them at any time for any reason, that you will receive at least as much in your pocket as they do for their attorney. fees even if they have to reduce their attorney fees to do so. And you may speak with one of their lawyers as often as you choose about anything you want to discuss, including what has happened to the Arizona Diamondbacks offense. So if you've got a serious injury, call the husband and wife law team first at 602-783, 8841, or visit their website at the link in our show notes and tell them PH&X sent you. My nips hurts here.
Starting point is 00:17:54 He says, why can't we rename this podcast, Dback Daddies? I don't hate that. I don't hate that. Really? I was part of a thing called Royal Daddy's one time on the WWE World. So I have been called a daddy before. I've actually been called a Zaddy on occasion. I don't know if anybody does that anymore. That term might be gone forever. But it made me feel good about myself. What doesn't make me feel good about myself is this team's offense, Damon. There wasn't much to speak of tonight. I have five lines of notes to discuss with you because what else am I supposed to talk about tonight? The Diamondbacks were held to just six hits in this game where they lost 14 to 1. They were out hit 16 to 6 by the Nationals. And the only run they got was by way of Aramis Garcia, who was basically getting picked on by the Nationals all night long
Starting point is 00:18:48 because they knew that he couldn't throw any runners out that were attempting to steal bases in this game. Derek, did you see what went down with the Aramis Garcia in my Twitter account? tonight yeah that the sub tweet that you sub tweeted him and then immediately you caused him to hit a home run yeah for the first time in four years yeah yeah yeah my oops my power my power is sometimes it's it's uh it's it's it's beyond my capability of understanding even there when i when i tweet things such as it's one thing to have a catcher that can't hit on your team like a rames Garcia, but it's another thing when he can't throw and he's a free pass on the on the base paths for opposing teams.
Starting point is 00:19:33 And it's like if you're going to be a complete nothing burger offensively, you need to be a defensive specialist, a catcher. And it feels like the Diamondbacks continue to somehow find and employ these guys like Jose Herrera and like Aramis Garcia that really aren't giving you a whole lot of either. But I will say pretty funny timing that he immediately. pretty hilarious timing. Just dunking on me. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:58 But that's fine. Keep it up because I don't believe. Well, I'll tell you this much. I mean, Aramis Garcia hit his 11th career home run in the third inning. Four hundred nine feet to left center field, 105.8 miles per hour off the bat. It was not a cheap home run. He got all of them.
Starting point is 00:20:16 Yeah, yeah. He hit it pretty hard. But the shocking thing is that it's his first since April 30th, 2020. while he was with the Cincinnati Reds facing off against the Colorado Rockies. That's it. That's all the offense I got to talk about, Damon. I have nothing else. The Diamondbacks.
Starting point is 00:20:34 The offense stinks again. Sprinkled, sprinkled hits around, you know, but did not play complimentary baseball, did not try to manufacture runs. And, I mean, it really pretty much felt like once they were down before Abder came into the game and really ensured that this game was over, it truly felt like they were already, it was already, it was already, it was already, a wrap you know what i mean it was already a wrap so um there's just been a lot of and i corey kind of
Starting point is 00:21:00 points this out in the chat here there's been a lot of these type of losses but not a lot of these type of wins yeah yeah a lot of uh very close nail biting type of wins but the losses have come and been like complete ass kickings yeah and it sucks because it's a little bit the opposite of like the last couple of years teams where it felt like we're either kicking people's asses or we're losing by one run because the bullpen is giving up a late lead. We were in a dog fight because we were up at 1.7 to 1 and then the bullpen allowed six earned runs in the fifth. And I guess those teams probably make you feel like you have a little bit better of a
Starting point is 00:21:36 chance to make noise late in the postseason if you can start figuring out the bullpen situation. Whereas a team like this, it's like the bullpen has been pretty good. That's why you've won a lot of these close games. But what team is going to, you know, get beat by this team in a playoff setting when they're hitting this poorly because their their offense is really just how many times do we find ourselves in the post game show just sitting up here being like well another putrid night offensively for the arizona diamond backs the pitching tonight was a disaster merrill kelly sucked no one is saying
Starting point is 00:22:08 otherwise but the offense has been a problem now for the better portion of the last like month again let's pretend merrill kelly has a much better outing and only gives up three earned runs and let's say the bullpen's not perfect, but they give up two. You still feel like you lose this game five to one, right? Like this offense was not doing anything tonight. On a night where they were facing, don't get me wrong, a good left-hander in Foster Griffin, but a left-handed pitcher nonetheless that the Diamondback should have essentially done damage against.
Starting point is 00:22:40 And this is why when we were doing the pitching preview, I was saying, I don't like this Foster Griffin matchup. And there are just certain left-handed pitchers that you feel like the, like, oh, it's a lefty. The Diamondback should feast against this guy. And they don't. They don't. And I don't know why. I don't know if they go out there also thinking what I'm thinking. So they think things are going to be easy. I don't know what the game plan is when addressing a guy like Foster Griffin. But Jordan PM in our chat, Damon, if you scroll back a little bit, said something I felt like was very frustrated or very, very true. He said it's more of a frustrating loss than anything else. You think they'd be hot off the win last night. nothing from the offense and a more than depressing pitching game.
Starting point is 00:23:23 Forget the pitching game, though you are absolutely right about it being a depressing pitching game. You're absolutely right about the offense. Like, I don't understand what happens with this team. I don't know what needs to be done to get them going, right? Like, they had a very good stretch against, you know, the Rockies and the Giants that made you feel like they were getting in enough of a groove that that was going to last beyond that series. And don't get me wrong,
Starting point is 00:23:51 they took two out of four from the Dodgers and promptly got swept also in Seattle. It just, it felt like, you know, that this team did not get in a groove. And so many times this season, the Diamondbacks have a huge win that you do think is going to lead to them going on and finally getting their offense clicking.
Starting point is 00:24:11 And this shit has happened entirely too many times this year where they score five plus runs and then come out the next day and can't even muster up more than two. It's it's it's it's kind of becoming a problem for this team. It's getting to the point where fans are starting to question Joe Mather once again as the hitting coach. And he is a man who Damon and I will defend with our lives when it comes to what he is done with this offense in his time here. Well, I trusted him with my I gave him I gave Joe Mather my the last four digits of my social security.
Starting point is 00:24:44 He did. Yeah. I told Joe Mather what my mother's made in. name. You know, it's funny, Joe Mather has access. Elementary school. He has, he's one of the people on my Amazon account. And I also let him use his fingerprint on my door, security door at home, just in case he has to come over and check on the dogs. Yeah, of course he has ring access. He has absolutely has ring access because this is a man I trust with my life. But this is a man that I'm starting to question if I should
Starting point is 00:25:13 be trusting with my life. And I'm not, I know, I know it's not on Joe Mather. But I will say, that in his tenure here, this has kind of been a thing with this team at times, that when they are cold, it's, it's, it almost should be studied by science with how cold they all are. At the same time, everybody. No one feeds off each other's energy more than the Arizona Diamondbacks. Yeah. It's, it's either like, things are great. We all love each other. Kumbaya or, oh my God, this is a disaster. No one can hit. No one can touch the baseball. tonight. Like, it really truly feels like that sometimes. It's fascinating. They're so hot and cold. They're so hot and cold. Right. And I mean,
Starting point is 00:25:55 again, it's, it's what we've said at times about great players. Great teams find a way to come out and perform every single night. Give you a chance to win every single night. No team is ever going to win all 162 of these things, right? So you're going to always lose probably 60 plus of these games every single year. So it's not to say like even the great teams are going to go out there and win every game. It's just about going out there and not having nights like this where things go
Starting point is 00:26:25 so sideways for you that you were never in the game. Never. Not for one second. Like literally the second batter of the game put up a home run that made it two to nothing and the Diamondbacks end up with one run. It was literally over from the second batter of the game. It's over. I mean, you got skunk tonight.
Starting point is 00:26:44 Yeah. Derek, what do you do on nights like tonight? What do I do on nights like tonight? What does the team do? Oh, well, the team, I mean, I think they flush it. They flush it. They flush it. You got to flush it.
Starting point is 00:26:56 That's what you do in the situation. And that's right. Answer my flush it sounder if I had one ready to go. I mean, that's where it would be. Hey, we've done five post game shows this week, Derek, including an emergency pod, a takeover. The flush it audio clip didn't have get time to get made. Sometimes, sometimes S happens, huh?
Starting point is 00:27:14 And sometimes you lose 14. no one. Sometimes you find yourself in the arms of Ryan Hanley spinning around while he carries you while random Diamondbacks fans as I spun around Damon were high-fiving me. Just random strangers just like this. Water came down from the ceiling. I'm pretty sure like someone grabbed pulled a rope and just a heap of water just yeah it was amazing pour down atop of you guys that was that was less than 24 hours ago now here we are talking about our season being over and what you and I should do with our September, our October, maybe late September. You know, like,
Starting point is 00:27:50 maybe vacations start getting planned. Cancun? You want to go to Cancun? As much as the, you know, is it over, are we back thing as a joke? Yeah. It really has encapsulated this season to, at a, to the highest degree. It's, it's shocking. It's shocking how much is it in the chat.
Starting point is 00:28:08 Like, the only thing that's been consistent is the inconsistency of this entire season. Yes. Where you're like, this is the best team ever. All right, guys, we're finally, you know, we're firing on all cylinders. This bullpen is, you know, a huge surprise. Now Cattell is hitting. And yet at every single opportunity where you start feeling good about the team again, immediately you start feeling bad about the team.
Starting point is 00:28:33 Like you said, Derek, like you come off that Rockies giant stretch and you get the Mariners. And you have an opportunity to like keep things rolling. And it just, you get swept immediately. you salvage the Dodgers series and now you put yourself in a hole already in a three game series against the nationals who are an okay team, have a good lineup like we said.
Starting point is 00:28:55 And as we talked about, Griffin is a good pitcher. But the nationals are the exact type of team you have to take care of business against if you want to make the playoffs. That's a team that is below 500 by a couple of games. They're not a quote unquote good team.
Starting point is 00:29:11 They're also not a bad team, but they're a team that you're going to have to respect take with you know like some actual you know appreciation or i guess uh like respect for you know how how good they are what they can potentially do with their lineup and then go out there and treat it as such instead of you know feeling like i guess you get you can walk off the dodgers so now everything's great again and then you get absolutely dogwalked and embarrassed the next night i don't know that that's what happened but you can't tell me that that's not what happened because what we witnessed was a walkoff win yesterday and a 13 run loss the next day, which to me,
Starting point is 00:29:51 that tells me a team that maybe went through the motions a little bit the next day. So who knows? I'll also say this again, even though you said what you said about the Nationals team, which is true, I do think that they're a much better team than a lot of people give them credit for. I think on a night like tonight when they have a good pitcher, they're actually a pretty difficult team to meet because they don't have a lot of good pitchers. That's their big problem. CJ Abrams ranks as number one in almost every offensive category when it comes to shortstop in the National League. Jim's Wood.
Starting point is 00:30:19 Same things with outfielders. So those two guys. And then that's two of the guys that kicked our ass tonight. But you also have the fact that for the nationals, this was their 20th road victory of the season. They are now 20 and 12 this year, putting them tied with the Dodgers right now for second most road wins in all of Major League Baseball. So maybe they just don't like playing in D.C. I don't know. I had a fun time.
Starting point is 00:30:44 I had a fun time when I went there, but they also have weird rules about gambling where you have to be like within certain feet of the ballpark or the other sporting facilities in order for you to gamble. That took some getting used to when I was visiting. But the biggest problem with this whole
Starting point is 00:31:00 situation and losing by 14 to 1 today, Damon, is that it ruined Lou James Groover call up day. Lou James Grover gets the call the day before today's game. He was the Diamondbacks number five overall prospect rated by baseball America. And he was killing it for the Reno Aces, right?
Starting point is 00:31:20 We talked, I think every time, Damon, we did a snake farm. We were talking about like every other time it felt like. Yeah, he was like. 50-50 shot, it was Lou James Gruber. Another 50-50 shot, it was Manuel Pena. Yeah, right? Like, it's just one. And Ryan Waldschmidt before he got called up.
Starting point is 00:31:39 One of those. Tom and Troy had to be on at all times. Yeah. He hit 322 with the Reno Aces this year with an 873 OPS. He had 16 doubles, one triple three homers. Not a lot of power for Groover, but just a long, a lot of consistency when it comes to offense, right? Vastly different from what they've been getting out of Jose Fernandez, who was sent down as part of this move. The other part of this move was Taylor Rashi was DFA'd.
Starting point is 00:32:09 That's a little sad considering we love Taylor Rashi. He led Reno in batting average, OPS, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, hits, RBI, doubles, walks, extra base hits, and total bases. He made 37 starts at third base this season and then made a switch to first base and playing DH, which is for an obvious reason, Damon, we needed a first baseman. We needed a DH to get Grover up here as soon as possible with Nolan Aronado over there at third base. felt like it made all the sense in the world for him to make this mistake, or make this, not mistake, make this change. But he was named the PCL player of the week back in April. He had a 36th game on base streak from April 3rd through May 16th.
Starting point is 00:32:54 And again, just a guy that has been killing it as a member of this organization. So very cool to see Lou James get called up. Very sad to see the guy that we still want to build a statue of Jose Fernandez get option to AAA Reno. But, of course, we got some video here prior to today's game. Here is Lou James Gruber talking about what he brings to the major league club and getting ready over there at first base for this kind of opportunity. I mean, kind of more so I know I've always been a pretty good hitter.
Starting point is 00:33:28 So I was kind of focusing a lot of defense. He was trying to control both sides of the diamond on the corners. Obviously, the goal is to help the big league team win, whatever that may be at an opportunity to rise and I'm prepared for me too I'm going to defensively down with his first base yeah I'm feeling really good over there I've been working over there they say opportunity may arise and I think always be playing third base too you go over there take that same skill set and mindset over there and allow you to have a chance for success over there and I've been working at it waiting for this opportunity essentially now I'm ready to make the most of it
Starting point is 00:34:02 I'm really excited about Grover, unfortunately, didn't have the kind of day-to-day, just like this whole team that you wanted him to have. He went 0-4 and was unable to get his first big league hit. But I think bringing Lou James Grover up, Gino slash Blade slash Gigi slash all the other cool nicknames that he has, that's a no-brainer, right? That part is something that we've been clamoring. forward just like maybe not beating the drum as hard as we did for Ryan Walschmidt, right? But probably a little bit like Tommy Troy where we were like, hey, let's give these young guys that are all hitting
Starting point is 00:34:41 350 an opportunity to come up here and help this offense instead of trying the same old thing with the same old pieces that haven't been working, right? Yeah. But the sending down of Jose Fernandez, I think is disappointing to a lot of people because there are guys on this team right now like Jorge Barrosa and Pavin Smith that are very much not performing. And all respect to our King Snake King himself, but Adrian Del Castillo could also be put in that category, who's currently hitting 189 with a 568 OPS, Pave and Smith 071 with a 306 OPS,
Starting point is 00:35:17 Perosa 168 with a 556 OPS. Those three guys are peppered around in your lineup. And that's a big reason why you're not having productive innings, because those guys are ending your innings. Those guys are hitting an inning ending double plays. Those guys are not helping this team win ball games with the bat in their hand, plain and simple. And when you have a guy like Lou James Gruver that's leading his team in all conceivable offensive categories, it makes all the sense in the world to call him up.
Starting point is 00:35:47 But Tori Lavallo did explain both Grover's call up and why they liked him being added to the roster, as well as Fernandez being set down, and specifically why. They wanted Fernandez to be sent down. Here is what Tori Lovelo had to say. Today we made a move. We called up Groover. And, you know, it was a situation where Groove pushed his way into this opportunity. Sometimes things happened through injury.
Starting point is 00:36:16 There's other reasons for call-ups. But this was a situation where he was really progressing on both sides of the baseball. And we felt like it was a really good opportunity to get him here and show us what he's able to do. We sent out Jose Fernandez, and Jose's been an unbelievable story for the Arizona Diamondbacks. He collected his first Major League hits, first Major League home runs, but there's still some learning that needs to take place with Jose. Mostly double-A at-bats or less through the course of his career, and we wanted to get this foundation of at-bats in AAA to where he understands the swing mechanics and what's happening around him to see the baseball and impact the baseball. and he's going to play at the big league level for a long time. And I haven't had a chance to talk to him, but I will.
Starting point is 00:37:05 I'm going to follow through with him in the coming days just to see how he's doing and how he's responding. But I don't want him to just be okay here. I want him to learn how to excel and be great. And I think this is the best opportunity for him to go down and learn a little bit more about himself, get those meaningful app outs, stand on that foundation and come back here and really be a top-end type of a baseball player that we feel is capable of being. We've talked about this before. We've talked about being sent down to the minor leagues, not necessarily being a demotion,
Starting point is 00:37:33 even though it is. I'm not going to act like it's not. But in some cases, the reason why is because you want that particular player to be a starting player, a starter, a guy that plays every single day. And Jose Fernandez, he is an amazing story for this team.
Starting point is 00:37:51 Jose Fernandez wouldn't even have been on the radar for this team this season. had he not had such an amazing spring training up here as part of DBAX camp, right, Damon? But at the same time, this is kind of like optioning Brandon fought down so that he can get stretched back out as a starter. It's not the best thing. Like, yes, the best thing would be that you're hitting 300 and you're in the lineup every day and you're part of the Major League Club. But, you know, the inconsistent play of Fernandez, which is not his fault, that is on Tori, that is on the front office for how rarely they played him. did cause him to cool off.
Starting point is 00:38:27 Plus, like Tori said, getting information on him, getting to see what, you know, the news gets out on you really quickly. The scouting report gets out on you at a major league level really fast, especially when you're talking about a guy that hit two home runs in one game to help this team win baseball games at one point during this season. Jose Fernandez is not washed. He just is not adapting to major league pitching, adapting to him. And that's what they want to teach him in the minors for him
Starting point is 00:38:54 reach that next level. But he is still very young. He is still very early in his baseball career. So like, again, that's that it was more of the fact that he was here already this year that should have been more of the surprise and that he was like a living legend for like his first 15 games as a member of the major league roster. Right. Like those those things made us fall in love with him instantly. It may all of us want to see him play more. And then immediately the Diamondbacks weren't playing him anymore. And you did feel like a little bit of it was to kind of protect him so that these other teams weren't seeing him as much. But you also feel like it's because, again, the lack of the lack of performance then causes you to lose playing time. So both are true, right? Like both
Starting point is 00:39:39 impacted each other. And then it got to a point where Fernandez just simply wasn't playing enough for him to keep, you know, maintain that level that he needs to to be a contributor at this level. chicken or the egg right yeah exactly and it's what we discussed i think a lot with jordan luller as well where it's like when you're not playing well absolutely you don't earn more playing time you don't warrant more abs that get taken off the plate of maybe another player who is playing better than he better than you they can't cost the major league team wins exactly you just can't do that exactly so uh you know i think this was probably inevitable derrick i have
Starting point is 00:40:17 Jose Fernandez is splits in front of me here. Yes. 25 games in the months of April and March. So I should say March and April. Yeah. He has three home runs and 12 RBI in those games with a slash line of 325, 349, 470, which is good for an 819 OPS. So 819 OPS, three bombs, 12 RBI in April and March. Into May, Derek, he played 26 games.
Starting point is 00:40:44 So one more game he played in that time. period, he hit 181, 224, 236 for a 460 OPS. So from an 819 to a 460 OPS, had zero home runs. Only 3 RBI, which I think two happened in that game that we did the watch long for and that we specifically were like, could use a big Jose Fernandez game tonight. And then he did three for four. Yeah. And then only played four games this month, but also was hitting 200, 273, 200 with a 473 OPS.
Starting point is 00:41:16 I mean, he obviously had just taken such a drastic fall off once teams maybe got a little bit more of information on how to pitch to them, which, you know, I think is understandable. That's a lot of times what happens with guys. They have these purple patches. They show a lot of life. And then teams get more information on what their tendencies are, what their maybe like, you know, the issues that they have with their game pitches that they don't deal with well. And they start getting attacked differently. Jose Fernandez was starting to get attacked differently. He was struggling with it.
Starting point is 00:41:47 So now he's going to go out of the miners, figure it out. And I think he still figures to be a key piece of this team for a long time. Because I think fans have kind of latched on to him and seen what it looks like when it's working. Right. And the upside with Jose Fernandez remains incredibly high. Yeah. He needs some time probably to figure some things out right now. I feel like-
Starting point is 00:42:09 Pause the statue. Pause the statue, Derek. It was about halfway done. It's like the crazy horse monument. in in south dakota well it's it's funny so what we did actually was we just started to build the base but like i said we got the the apple cart going that erod is going to stand on and we're converting that area into hashtag the meeting right we might need to have another hashtag the meeting damon that might be what's needed to fix this goddamn pitching staff when it comes to you know what
Starting point is 00:42:36 is wrong with the diamondbacks but uh you know again sucks that this happened sucks that fernandez was sent down but all of this is is being done in an effort to make not only this team team better, but to make these players better. Jose Fernandez has proven that he can play at a major league level. He is not going anywhere, and he has probably ingrained himself into being one of their guys for entirely too long. In fact, our guy, D-BAC's insider UCLA cap that I think might, in fact, also be Roger Bessian, says, debacks are too honorary for guys that suck.
Starting point is 00:43:07 Actually, well said. Like, there is this thing where, like, we just hold on to these guys entirely too much. Absolutely. You know, need to have a little bit of that Rams energy from the NFL where they're like, we're using these picks to win more Super Bowls is what we're doing, right? That's why I want Yordon Alvarez or like somebody or Tarek Scoubel or somebody like that. Like, it's time to make some aggressive moves. I think that, you know, this team is obviously not close to winning a championship,
Starting point is 00:43:35 but they're also like they have like a lot of really good pieces. They just, they need some players, I think, to put them over the top. And it doesn't really feel like maybe those guys are. on the horizon from like a farm system perspective. So then you look outside the farm, you know? So I don't know. Jason, our guy Jason, who we love, says, if season ended today, D-backs out a wildcard. Luckily, Jason, there are four more insufferable months of baseball to watch.
Starting point is 00:44:03 So we are not anywhere close to that being the case. Our guy, my nips hurt. Again, one of our favorite opposing fans says, I would love to talk about this game and this Nat's team with you daddies tonight. That was when we said we didn't want to talk about this game. So we're glad somebody here wanted to talk about this game. We did have to talk about it. We're contractually obligated to do so.
Starting point is 00:44:23 And also our guy, Jason, celebrating eight months of membership. Love you, buddy. Thank you so much for being a part of our supporters club and our family. He says, you know what makes losses like this hurt less? The PHNX boys showing up and talking fans through it. Imagine having to crash out without caveman and dog. We love you, buddy. Thank you so much.
Starting point is 00:44:41 We're glad that we can at least be. some sense of community, even on a loss like this, right? And hey, at least we don't have to worry about a bunch of jerk-ass Dodgers fans being in here tonight. We just got our guy, My Nips Hurd, and he's just viving with us and having a good time. Rightfully so. His team kicked the hell out of ours tonight. Well, very true. But, Derek, you see how how normal things can be when you have just like a regular human being?
Starting point is 00:45:07 Like a reasonable fan that's just like a normal human being. My Nip's hurt came in here originally. as a troll. Oh, yeah, he came for us. When the Diamondbacks lost to the Nationals last year. Yeah, around the same time. Like I said, it might be like our anniversary of knowing this guy. My Nips hurt did it in a way that was funny, a way that added to the show, a way that was creative.
Starting point is 00:45:29 And Derek and I befriended him because of it, made him a part of our postgame activities that we have against the Nationals because he's a funny individual that brings something to the table. Yeah. Not just like, we're going to. take your best players and we're going to take your stadium and just as dodger baseball and you're like you guys lost tonight and your players are assaulting people on a nightly basis whether it's otani throwing out people's faces or munsy throwing haymakers in the field of play and yet you just come here and you defend nonstop no matter what it's insane but thank you to my nips for proving that you can be an opposition fan you can kick the diamond back you
Starting point is 00:46:13 ass you can show up to the p hrnx dbacks post game show and you can not be a complete effing loser about it like dodger nation he came he came here to hurt us and what he realized very quickly is nobody can hurt us as badly as our baseball team can hurt us uh and he just joined in on the fun and we thank him absolutely and also thank you to jacob tack who became a member tonight here we appreciate jacob and all of our supporting club members including b's deborahs sean uh jarmie who sent in his eight month anniversary chat that you get one each month that you are a member. It works as a super chat. We read it on air.
Starting point is 00:46:49 And if you're going to get access to these great emojis. And if you're going to send us a $5 super chat, you might as well just do that. Get in on the action. Get access to all of our fun videos that we have for members only and so much more. But Damon, there was one question I wanted to get to and then we'll get out of here. I'm going to end up being wrong. And the thing I said to Damon and he knows it. But Coaster, a little while back asked, will,
Starting point is 00:47:12 when will we see Fernandez again when will we see Fernandez back in the majors this year that I'm not saying it's unlikely but I am saying like overall as guys start to come back from the injured list and things like that there there are going to be more and more roster issues but Jose Fernandez is on the 40 man roster so there isn't a very good chance that you know based on other situations going down perhaps the Diamondbacks parting ways with some of these guys that are underperforming would open the door for Jose to come back. However, it does feel very much like the purpose of this is for him to go down and work on some stuff similar to Brandon Fought. I think both of those guys have a chance to come back this year, but it probably is more in the case of an emergency kind of injury situation, a little bit more than it would be the Diamondbacks actively doing that because they still have a lot of, they got Jordan Lawler, they have Carlos Santana, who was at Chase Field hitting today. They have a lot of guys that could come back. And not to mention, they're pitchers and you know a j puck and what about a just a martinezember uh when the rosters get expanded yeah i could
Starting point is 00:48:19 see that potentially that's a good point he's a base runner as well he's a guy who adds you know base running uh versatility and in abilities to you know the the table he can steal uh he also plays a couple positions first third and short absolutely so i think that that versatility helps in there so i think if the debacks are i mean you get september callups no matter what but especially the debacks are like trying to win down the stretch important games. I think that you could see him make his way back up to the roster. But yeah, I think that it's also possible he doesn't at all. Kevin is just now catching up on tonight's game and he wants to know if this scorebug is an AI mistake.
Starting point is 00:48:55 Sadly, Kevin, it is not 14 to 1 is in fact the final score of tonight's baseball game. This was the only way that a week of five post game shows could end. Yeah. The only way. And God is laughing at me and Derek. We thought we were his favorites, and we were so wrong about that. But let's take a quick break. And on the other side of this break, I got to get out of here fast before Damon screams at me.
Starting point is 00:49:19 So don't you guys go anywhere? You're watching the PHNX Diamondback Show. Well, baseball isn't fun for us Diamondbacks fans on night like this. But Bet365 wants to help make it more fun, especially with getting in on the live in-game betting. I got skunked on my vets tonight. I went 0 and 3 when it came to this Nationals team. so they kind of they put it to me as badly as they put it to the debacks. But look, I'm back and I'll be back tomorrow again to be hurt again, right?
Starting point is 00:49:48 But it's fun. And it makes baseball games, especially like this, more fun to get in on live in-game betting. Plus, if you're a new user, you can get down on the bet 10, get $200 in bonus bets deal right now, where all new users have to do a sign-up and make their first $10 bet. And bet 365 will toss you $200 in bonus bets far easier than overcoming a loss like this. also again in a game that's very much a high scoring game you never know what's going to happen so you can also get down with the bet 365 MLB early payout offer where you are a winner if your team goes up by five runs the nationals didn't even have to do this to us for them to secure that
Starting point is 00:50:25 victory and then if your team ends up losing that you bet with you're still a winner where your straight bets and parley selections will be marked as winners once you go up by five runs regardless of the outcome of the game bullpins can ruin our knights like they kind of did tonight, but they can't ruin your bets with this kind of offer. So get down on the Bet365 offer right now. Download the app and use code PHNX365 when you do.
Starting point is 00:50:49 Bet 365, we're winning is everything. Gambling problem, call 100 gambler. 21 and over only. Must be physically located in Arizona. Terms and conditions apply in app only. Well, I heard Espo when he is talking about the window depot has just been yelling from the window to the wall. Is that what he's been doing?
Starting point is 00:51:07 that's that's that's that's that's totally an espo thing to do and I'm kind of I'm jealous that I didn't come up with something that but what I have been trying to tell you guys is is that the window depot is the place to go to upgrade your window game I know your windows are old I know they are the same windows that from when your house was built in 1991 go out and upgrade your windows right now the Arizona heat is here to stay it's never going anywhere it just cools off a little bit but it comes back and you want to make sure that you keep that hot heat outside of your home and the cool heat, cool air conditioning in, not the heat, the air conditioning. Maybe during the winter keep that heat in as well. Window Depot can help you do that, but guess what?
Starting point is 00:51:44 There's so much more than just the Windows store. They can get you started on whatever project you're trying to get started today because windows are what they do. They do have the biggest inventory and best prices. But again, they also have far more than just that. Windows, doors, cabinets, countertops, and a whole lot more. The best price, the biggest inventory. It's why contractors love the Window Depot. Not only do they have job site ready quantities, but their prices are simply unbeatable.
Starting point is 00:52:10 And they have a no membership policy, which makes it easy to get what you need fast. Plus, you can check out their stock online and know exactly if they have what you need. And let me tell you that you probably take the if out of there because they're going to have what you need. Shop online and pick up in store. Brow and order directly at the window depot.com with real-time access to in-stock products at your nearest location. Get what you need when you need it, the window depot, more than just the window store. Bees in the chat says thoughts on the current state of snakes farm system. Hey man, I'll tell you this.
Starting point is 00:52:45 I'm glad that they're giving the young guys an opportunity to play. And I've seen how good some of the next level of guys are. Again, Damon and I are talking about Manuel Pena every other day. Don't even get us started on how good case in Cunningham is. So the Diamondbacks have plenty of studs in this organization, right? plus let's be honest they're going to continue you know to to draft in surprising ways and even though these guys are just now kind of seeing the light of day it's it's finally like this class of ian revin and and these other you know guys in the front office that have been a part of the
Starting point is 00:53:21 you know talent selection process that have brought us some really good baseball players right so i'm not that that worried about it but i will say there's a good chance that it's not going to be as stocked as it was because the diamondbacks had themselves, you know, some studs in their system. However, again, remember that even like Jose Fernandez, for instance, wasn't even ranked, I believe, in the top 20 as far as their top 30, right? Yeah, right. Yeah, but he wasn't when they called him up, right? Because he was still perceived as being so far off, right, than where, you know, he would,
Starting point is 00:53:54 actually be called up anytime soon. He also had a really, obviously, that really strong spring and a really strong spring in a really strong last season before. He was just kind of an unheralded prospect. And guys can come out of nowhere. Like, Manuel Pena, I think we've established. Not Pena. I think we've established.
Starting point is 00:54:10 No, N.A. Manuel Pena is a, Manuel Pena. Pena. Is a guy that was a big time signing internationally didn't end up playing very well in his first couple years and is now hitting a home run every night. So it's, you know, I think he'll rise in the newest. form of the D-Backs prospect rankings pretty significantly by the next one. I don't even think he's on it.
Starting point is 00:54:35 And he'll probably be in the back end of the top 10 potentially, Derek, on the next one. So, you know, I think that, yeah, the Diamondbacks Farm System is you've called up a lot of your better pieces recently. So it doesn't look as strong, especially now without Waldschmidt, Troy, Gino Groover. But there are still some young players that, you know, I think are, you know, definitely players that you are excited about. Well, let's take a look at by the numbers from tonight's game because we have to. Damon made a graphic.
Starting point is 00:55:05 Do we? I'm not going to. Did I? Go ahead and throw it. Did you make a graphic? No. No? I didn't.
Starting point is 00:55:11 You really didn't? I actually totally forgot. That was not like a protest. Good. No, it's not a protest thing. You know what? Good. Good.
Starting point is 00:55:19 I don't need to show you that they got outscored 14 to 1 or that they had one extra base hit and you know what it was. It was Aramis Garcia's home run. There's no numbers or stats I can give you from this. game that could be surprising. Diamondbacks were 0 for 3 with runners in scoring position. Of course they were. Nats were 6 for 14 with runners in scoring position.
Starting point is 00:55:38 Hard hit percentage, 52.6 for the Nationals to the Diamondbacks, 35%, 34.5. ABS challenges, who cares about that in a 14 to 1 game? Expected batting average nearly 400 for the Nationals. 394-247 for the debacks. I'm done with it. That's a high expected batting average. I am not.
Starting point is 00:56:01 I don't, I'm glad you didn't make the beats yet. I'm glad you didn't waste your time on that. One thing I did make, Derek. I was going to flash it on screen for 10 whole seconds and then get off of it. One thing I did make, Derek, our probable pitchers graphic, you want to take a peek at who was going to be on the mound for the Diamondbacks and the nationals in the final two games of this series? Let's do that. What do we got? Well, of course, it's forced it.
Starting point is 00:56:21 Of course it's brought to us by our friends over there. One AZ credit union, one AZ credit union, rooted in Arizona and here to help. help us all reach financial success. Tomorrow we have to win. Tomorrow we have to win. We got our ace, Eduardo Rodriguez, going up against Zach Little and his 5.01 ERA.
Starting point is 00:56:42 I'm worried. I'm worried. Zach Little has pitched his best games recently, Derek. Exactly. I'm worried. I'm worried. And I mean, we've always,
Starting point is 00:56:51 we've always been talking about EROD's expected stats. We try to brush it off. We try to act like they don't exist. We try to pretend like, They're not there. We need Erod to be on his game tomorrow. We cannot have this entire pitching staff suddenly slide off from being one of the best unexpected surprises out of nowhere at the end of May, or for most of May, I should say, to now being just trash. There's just no way.
Starting point is 00:57:17 No way this can happen. So we need our guys Erod and Soroka to step up big in the final two games of the series, Damon. And that's going to be hard because Kavali has also been very good there. and that's going to be in the finale on Sunday. Also, weird hours for these games this weekend, by the way. Like a 12-10 start tomorrow and then a 110 start on Sunday. So, hey, at least they're giving us our Saturday nights back tomorrow. But we have to take one last commercial break.
Starting point is 00:57:45 And then we're going to talk about which of the Corbyn Carol Bottleheads are better. And I'm going to go over. And how Derek lied to me. I'm going to go over our time. But don't you go anywhere. You're watching the PHAG and X-Nex Knive Back show. Well, shout out to game time. You know that GameTime app.

Starting point is 00:59:08 But also, Shady Ray's. I thought I lost my Shady Rays yesterday, mostly because we had ourselves a great time with you guys out there at our takeover event at Chase Field. And I foolishly brought my sunglasses in, knowing I wasn't going to need them in the ballpark. But I was like, oh, I'll put them on my head. I'll put them on my back, my shirt.
Starting point is 00:59:24 I'll put them all over places. I was convinced that when I woke up this morning, my Shady Rays, I was never going to see them. them again. Luckily, I did find them this time, but you guys know there's been many times where I didn't. And that's the reason why Shady Rays is the best because they have the best lost and broken replacement plan in all of Iowa, where they have your back, even on day one. Even if you break or lose your Shady Rays on day one, they got your back and they won't even ask you for an explanation. So again, actually take a look at their entire line. They have some amazing frames
Starting point is 00:59:55 that will make your face look beautiful and some polarized lenses that will protect your eyes from this sun that wants to burn them out of your head. But go to Shadyrays.com and use that code of P.HNXSR for 50% off two or more pairs of polarized sunglasses. Also make sure to join us for our World Cup watch parties presented by Buchanan's Casamigos, Don Julio and Mickelope Ultra all throughout the World Cup. We're going to be hanging out at Phillies on Warner this Thursday, June 11th at 12 p.m. for Mexico versus South Africa.
Starting point is 01:00:28 and then on Friday, June 12th, one week from today, we will be hanging out at Phillies and Scottsdale to watch USA take on Paraguay. We also have drink specials, including $4.5Micholub Ultras, $6 neutral and $6 Stella Artois. Those neutrals, Damon, those are refreshing. Visit go phtonx.com slash events for more details and to RSVP. Well, again, my condolences,
Starting point is 01:00:55 my apologies to my producer, Damon Dog, for once again lying about making this show go short but it's for good reason and that good reason is two things one damon can we show the win probability chart from tonight's loss it's one of the most disgusting things i've ever seen in my entire life and the reason why i say that is because rarely rarely in baseball do you ever see a win probability chart where look at the goddamn line damon it is literally so high that is almost crossing out the diamond back's name and the date because that line wants to break out of this chart and somehow soar to the winning percentage or winning probability being 250% or 300% once the Nats went up by 14 runs or 13
Starting point is 01:01:45 runs or even 12 runs. There's that. I hate it. But more importantly, this Saturday is Corbyn Carol 3030 mystery bobblehead day. And we got our guy right here. And we also... Wow. You're so plugged in with that kind of stuff. We also got our guy right here. Yeah, you know I am, Damon, because I love toys.
Starting point is 01:02:06 That's why. And more importantly, we got both of them is what we got here. We got the little 30 home run, Corbyn right here. It's got himself a little black bat. You just got to do a little assembly work. Put that guy right there. Got him. And then over here, we got the Corbin that that ripped up.
Starting point is 01:02:26 bags is what we got. We got stealing, bag stealing, 30 steals, Corbyn Carroll, right there. Damon. Most people won't have the advantage that we have of being able to acquire both of these beauties. However, if you do come with like your wife or, you know, as a couple, maybe, just maybe. Cool bro. You walk out of here. Cool bro. Oh yeah, Cool bro's date. First, we need an update from cool bro on how his date went. Then we need to know if they somehow. Tomorrow. Is that, yeah, tomorrow. It's for the bobblehead. That's what I'm saying. Oh, you said first we need an update.
Starting point is 01:02:58 No, I mean, first we'll need an update is what I mean when that date happens. And then we'll need to know if they got both bobbleheads. If in fact they did get both bobbleheads, Damon, does that mean that they are meant to be that the universe aligned and that they should just go ahead and get this engagement underway? I would say that the Diamondbacks almost have to win as well. I mean, the second date was the Mattel, the Cate walkoff. So that tells me something is definitely cooking here. Yeah, I mean, we were talking about it yesterday, Derek. Does it get any sexier than Corbyn Carroll 30-30 bobbleheads?
Starting point is 01:03:31 No, it really doesn't. No, it really doesn't. Nothing turns me on more than bobblehead night. But the idea that it's a mystery bobblehead and we might get sliding. Look at the sliding Corbyn Carroll is electric. I wish we had a camera dedicated to just showing these off because this doesn't do it any justice. But a lot of talk in the chat about which one we want, which one do we want? chat. I think I saw some people, I do like the sliding one or the stealing one has the sliding
Starting point is 01:04:00 mitt on it. That's a nice feature. I also don't love what happens to these bats on these bobbleheads if most of you know what I'm talking about. It's inevitable that it's going to break or something bad is going to happen to. Well, that's only if you don't put them in your bulletproof case at home. Correct. Like real bobblehead enjoyers. Enthusiasts, if you will, right? Correct. Speaking of that, shout out to J-Mart enthusiast for the kind words he said about our podcast. Appreciate you so much, my guy. Also, big shout out to everyone we met yesterday during our takeover.
Starting point is 01:04:32 Damon and I had a blast. You guys really made us feel special, including our guy, AZ Katz G, who included me in his blog. I got to outro his blog that featured Catelle Marte's walkoff home run. So that was an honor. Appreciate you, Aiz Katz, G. He has a super chat for us. He says, thanks for showing up tonight, guys.
Starting point is 01:04:51 Your dedication is inspiring. Surprise to you guys are wearing shirts. keep up the great work. These bad boys only come off for walk-off victories, and you know that, right? Also, going to the world series. Yeah, going to the World Series, drinking a bat filled with champagne, those are my moments. But I will also say to those of you that want me to keep my shirt on, it's not going to happen. This shirt's, this bad boy's coming off at some point.
Starting point is 01:05:16 They can pay us money and keep the shirt on. Super chats. Super chats will help grease the wheels to keep these shirts off for sure. He's not wrong. I can definitely be bought. That also goes for shirts off, though. Yeah, that is true. You pay enough money, Derek's take it.
Starting point is 01:05:28 Derek will take his shirt off. Basically, the moral of the story is if you pay me enough money, I'll do anything. Yeah, correct. I'll do anything. So Ernesto wants to know, does Corby get to at least 25 stolen bases? I think so. I think so. It's kind of wild that that's even like a question now.
Starting point is 01:05:44 Yeah, it is. I mean, he's been getting a lot of triples. So, I mean, at this point, this might be the season about him getting the triples and setting that record, as well as establishing himself. as the current and reigning, you know, leader, active leader in stolen bases. Five away. Anyway, I have the tweet cooked up already, Derek. He can't wait. He can't wait for that.
Starting point is 01:06:04 I've been number one guy on the Corbyn Carroll is a generational triples. He hit or take for. Oh, yeah. Literally since his rookie year, I remember. You've been telling Mike Trout his days are numbered for a long time. Well, I remember going up to Jesse being like, dude, this guy's pace when it comes to triples is like remarkable. He's going to, like, be the active leader by year.
Starting point is 01:06:24 like four or five of his career and we're looking at it in year five and his first year he barely even played it's crazy that's the craziest part yeah he's really played four seasons in like a month in in the final part of his rookie year his first year and he yeah i mean he's just he's already got 50 triples it's unbelievable well katy is planning cool bro's wedding in the chat and it's going to happen at chase field so we are all invited i hope so damon and i were just talking about me not being invited to another wedding for today's show. And I'm still... We both did not get...
Starting point is 01:06:58 Our feelings collectively are still hurt. Mine more than Damans. But we are not hurt by you guys being here with us tonight. We appreciate every single one of you. As much as AZ Kat, G says the nice thing to us. We appreciate you guys being here. No doubt. You have plenty of wonderful things to do with your Friday night
