PHNX Arizona Diamondbacks Podcast - POSTGAME: D-backs Playoff Hopes PLUMMET After E-Rod’s DISASTROUS 1st Inning in Loss to Yankees
Episode Date: September 19, 2026The end is near. The Arizona Diamondbacks dropped Game 1 to the New York Yankees on Friday night before the offense even picked up a bat. We have more on Eduardo Rodriguez getting absolutely crushed f...or 5 earned runs in the first inning, Corbin Carroll finally coming back to life while the rest of the lineup remains ice cold, and the D-backs’ TRAGIC NUMBER dropping to just 4. We also play another angry edition of the Blame Game, and at this point, we could probably blame the entire season. Plus, we give some much-needed love to the Amarillo Sod Poodles, who are heading to the Texas League Championship and have officially become the only team in this organization that is actually winning anything.BECOME A DIEHARD: gophnx.com/join JOIN THE SUPPORTERS CLUB ➡️ https://tinyurl.com/yc6km2r4An ALLCITY Network ProductionSUBSCRIBE to our YouTube: https://bit.ly/phnx_youtubeALL THINGS PHNX: http://linktr.ee/phnxsports MERCH https://store.allcitynetwork.com/collections/phnx-lockerALLCITY Network, Inc. aka PHNX and PHNX Sports is in no way affiliated with or endorsed by the City of PhoenixPHNX Events: Get your tickets to PHNX events and takeovers here: https://gophnx.com/events/ALLCITY — including us here at PHNX — is teaming up with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America for an exciting three-year partnership. I found one, Damon.
$457 round trip to Cancun.
It leaves in the morning.
What time?
It's 12.32 a.m.
It's got a five-hour layover in Orlando.
Is that enough time for us to go home and pack?
It's on Frontier.
You can't bring a bag on Frontier.
But we can get on this.
We can do this by tomorrow.
Well, I mean, what's the point of sticking around just to see this season end at this point?
Keep telling me the snakes are a lot.
live, but I don't see it.
Welcome in to another edition of the PHNX Diamondbacks post-game show, live, live from Studio
K, presented by Circle K.
My name is Derek Monti, occasionally known as your mayor of PHNX, and my voice is in the
same condition as the Diamondbacks season right now.
It's bad.
Things are bad.
It's almost gone, and there's not very much hope of recovering anything good at this point.
I'm thrilled to be joined by you guys because I needed you to be here for a therapy session.
And of course, we are talking about the Diamondbacks losing tonight's game to the New York Yankees by a score of 9 to 2.
I am not alone.
I have a very angry man on the other side of this computer from me.
It is the one, the only bad boy of P.N.X.
Damon Farrell, aka Damon Dog.
And he doesn't want to have any connection at all of me referencing him to be the D-Backs dog or anything like that.
I don't even want to be here right now, Derek.
I consider quitting.
Yeah, I mean, I consider not even showing up tonight.
Yeah.
Yeah, I'm telling you.
I can be doing better things.
This baseball team doesn't want to show up.
On a night where the legends of this franchise were present at Chase Field,
the Diamondbacks withered away and are doing next to nothing to save their season from literally
going down the drain at this point.
Of course, this show is brought to you by the good.
folks at game time, they deserve better than this. And all of you do as well. So go download the
app today, create an account and use code PHNX. You'll get $20 off your first purchase.
Terms do apply. Maybe not, maybe don't go to the Yankee series. I don't know. This is all we
have left here at Chasefield. Two more games at Chasefield and then six games left in their season.
but at this point, it's hard to imagine this ending in any other way than tragedy.
Because when I say tragedy, I have to bring up the Diamondbacks tragic number,
which is when they are officially eliminated from playoff competition.
And that number is now down to four.
The Diamondbacks tragic number is down to four.
They have lost three games in a row dropping to 80 and 74.
I'm starting to question if they're even going to have a winning season.
season at this point.
And they are now five games back from the Padres for the final wildcard spot.
That is the reality of it.
While I do appreciate root beer floats on me's eternal optimism,
I'm not with you tonight, my guy.
It's tough to be on that island with you.
It's tough to be on that island with you tonight because the Diamondbacks basically lost
this game before they even picked up a bat.
I guess that's the best way to put it.
Eduardo Rodriguez had one of his worst performances of the season,
giving up five earned runs in the first inning.
But even if Erod would have had a perfect first inning,
and this game would have gone on without those five runs being scored,
the Diamondbacks still would have lost this game by a score of four to two
thanks to another sad night from their offense.
And look, I know the game completely changes
if for some reason that five run first inning doesn't happen.
But that five run did,
the inning did happen.
And Erod continues to be bad to start baseball games.
It's kind of an epidemic for him all season long.
But my bigger question is,
what was this performance tonight?
What was this performance?
Because I don't know what it was.
What was this performance offensively?
What was this performance defensively?
What was this performance defensively?
what was this performance from
Eduardo Rodriguez and Zach Gallin?
I mean, we knew exactly what we would get out of Zach Gallen.
He didn't let us down.
He merely did exactly what many of us expected him to do,
not hold this game scoreless,
not continue to give the Diamondbacks a chance to win a baseball game.
But besides the fact that this was another game
where you are supposed to be playing for your lives,
for your season, for your playoff hopes.
You played like this in front of the Legends.
You played like this in front of Tony Womack and Danny Batista.
You played this form of defense in front of Steve Finley.
Your bats did what they did when Luis Gonzalez was present.
And Legends, what did you do?
Speaking of which, Gonso, I didn't see you in the dugout picking up a baseball bat.
Actually, the broadcast even said,
could have used you.
That Batista was saying after that rough first inning out of Erod that they might need to start getting him going in the pen potentially.
So some of them were willing to put their bodies on the line tonight.
I mean, Dylan from Love Island was willing to put his body on the line for this team, Damon.
Of course.
I just, I don't know if the players that are here are.
Corbyn Carroll gave an excellent performance tonight.
But even that, it's, it's another infuriating, you know,
correction where someone starts playing well and you're like, man, I know baseball is like this,
but where was this last week, man? We could have used this Corby and Carroll last week.
And in so many of those big moments, Corby and Carroll came up short, even though he did come up
very big in one of those moments. Don't get me wrong. It's just, you know, again, it's another
night where somebody picks things up offensively and the rest of the team doesn't. But it's hard for
this team to have much fight in them when they were down five runs before anybody touched
the bat or walked up to the plate.
Yeah.
Right.
I mean, yeah, and yeah, you guys are saying it in the chat.
I saw people bringing it up.
What the hell were we doing with the hats and the jerseys and the stuff tonight?
Oh, my God.
What are we doing all season long?
Derek, I usually don't do it this early in the show, but I'm getting on screen for this one.
There is nothing in the world that makes me more upset than wearing the wrong hats with
the wrong uniforms.
It's like when you're playing a video game and you're playing against a little kid and you take
the uniform seriously and you're like, you want to get the freshest look possible.
And then somebody that you're playing against starts just doing different uniform combos.
It looks ridiculous.
Can we stop doing this with the throwback hats and not the throwback uniforms?
We have throwback uniforms.
What happened?
We have them.
I mean, what happened to the idea that like they changed?
uniform like if you're going to make them wear a special hat that that hat matches a uniform right like
i think about the father's day uniforms they had a few years ago right i think it was an away game
like this is in a paul goldsmith era where it was all like baby blue and gray yeah yeah i know i remember
it just changed to be the colors that they did for that one special day right and again you have
this 25th anniversary of the diamondbacks winning the world series the celebration is going to
go on all weekend long.
They're getting out throwback jerseys tomorrow and the players aren't wearing
throwback jerseys and they're also wearing like I just pick a lane.
Do one or the other?
Well, I mean, do you want to win or do you not want to win?
Do you because guess what?
I hate I hate losing Derek, but there's nothing more than I hate losing and oh my God.
I realize I screwed up the scorebug by the way.
There's nothing more than I hate about losing other than I wish we won nine to two.
then uh that's hopeful thinking yeah that is yeah yeah for sure there's there's nothing more than i hate
than losing than looking bad while losing at least let us look cool in the process damon at least
let us put on some cool who are you throwback uniforms talking to like that day i get it my socks
match my shirt no i get it they match my shirt i get it you're the you're mr matching god you're
mr matching derrick and and so i'm sure that this this hurts you to your core but i'm
I truly think that maybe the thing that could have brought this team over the top tonight
and in this series against the Yankees is actually wearing throwback vest style uniforms in this series.
And the Diamondbacks decided not to do it.
And seasons over because of it, Derek.
Why is Ken Kendrick so opposed to those old uniforms?
What is it about them that he hates so much?
Us.
I think it's us.
Yeah, I think it is us.
I would hate us too, so I get it.
But shout out to the chat, though, tonight.
Speaking of speaking of us, Derek, I think the chat's on fire.
We got Scotty Mac, Nate Cleveland, Rolafati, of course.
Scottie, you're invited to Cancun with us.
We're all going to Cancun.
Dill Dog TV.
Nate Cleveland, Zach, I said, I think already.
Mighty Schumann, Staples, AZCard's nerd.
And we got a few super chats already off the bat.
I feel like we should hit him really in the show, Derek.
Please go ahead.
Just Toast.
$2.
Thank you, Just Toast.
Think of it.
like happy number for the Canva Coon trip, Derek, instead of traffic number.
I tried. I have the Jericho cruise booked. I have several vacations that I planned.
I was taunting them. I was taunting fate. I was taunting the baseball gods.
I laughed in their face and then I spit in their face. And the baseball gods did nothing to spite me.
You know what the baseball gods did? They said, have a nice vacation, Derek. You've earned it.
Book October 5th. That looks like a good date is what they said to me.
And that hurt my spleen a little bit. What else we got?
We got another one from Just Toast who says, would you rather have seen a team of Unks than that?
Yes.
Yeah.
Or would have rather.
Tony Womack would have gone out there and gone two for four tonight with a double and three stolen bases.
And the Diamondbacks would have won this baseball game.
You mean to tell me that Steve Finley was going to let the New York Yankees beat us in our house like this?
In fact, Erod's performance tonight was so bad that it reminds me of the last time these guys were in this building while.
the Yankees were here and a left-hander was on the plet on the mound but that left-hander was
Andy petted and the Diamondbacks had very much figured out some way that he was tipping his pitches
in that game and they love to tell you about that whenever you ask them but I don't know if
erod's tipping in the first inning of these games not exactly sure Damon but he has been very
bad in the first inning of a lot of baseball games this year yeah so is Merrill Kelly so the
diamondbacks feels like the Diamondbacks are one of the worst first inning teams in the league
It's why they have to come back so often.
Well, they're bad offensively in the first inning.
They're bad offensively all the time.
No, no.
But I mean, statistically in the first inning, they're one of the worst teams as far as
as run scored in the first inning.
I'd be interested to see what their split numbers look like inning by inning this season
as an overall team because I bet you would be pretty interesting.
Yeah.
Yeah, you're right.
You're right.
And it's also pretty frustrating.
Yeah.
Like you said, what is the reason why we have the most comeback wins in
baseball it's not because we're this gritty team that just always finds a way to win it's because
we're always down and when we win baseball games a lot of times it requires us to come back from being
down and sometimes we're down like tonight before we even pick up a bad yeah and uh it started with a
lead off walk of paul goldschmidt because of course it would why wouldn't it uh and then he gives up
a single to bellinger walked heliot ramos walked ben rice and that scored walked in a run to score the
Yankees first run. Then he gave up an RBI single to Ahmed Rosario that I still don't really
understand to this moment, Damon. Like, I watched it in real time. Then I watched it in replay. And then
I turned to Alex Winder from 98.7. I said, what happened there? And he just kind of looked and he goes,
Tim Tawa's playing center field. I don't want to blame Tim Tawa for that. I want to say like, oh, he's not
like good defensively. But it was it was just this very catchable ball that even the Yankees all
stayed put. Nobody advanced. Nobody thought it was.
was going to fall for a hit.
And they still, they only scored one run because of it, which would have scored probably
anyway, even on the sack fly.
Tim Tawa in center and, and Pavin Smith at first base with the season on the line.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Tim Tawa and Center and Pavin Smith at first base.
Do we want to play the blame game now or do we want to actually do we let's hold off?
We'll hold off.
That feels like that we're almost inviting people to leave too early.
What are they going to stay for if we don't have to play game?
What do you hear for?
Like, we can't give you the main event right away.
we got to build up to that.
But then he gave up an RBI single.
That Ahmad Rosario thing, yeah, that happened.
Yankees up to nothing because still just the one run to score.
They couldn't move and then still no outs.
Erod finally gets his first out to strike out of Spencer Jones,
but it comes with a wild pitch that allowed a run to score to make a 3-0.
So still not a great outcome there.
And then George Lombard Jr. delivered with a big hit,
a 2 RBI single that made it 5 to nothing.
E. Rod inexplicably then strikes out Austin Wells and Anthony Volpe to end the inning. And then he
looks solid again. Like, comparatively to that first inning, the rest of Erod's outing was a gem compared
to the way that that first inning went. But it's it's what happened. It's what's happened to Erod all
season long. The first inning by far has been Erod's worst inning of work all season. He is now
loud, Damon, 27 earned runs in 31 first innings pitched for a 7.84 ERA in the first inning.
Wow. Given his season, that's pretty remarkable. It's remarkable. It's basically where he's given up
all of his runs when you look at his splits. Yeah. He has a 1.2.0 era in the second, a 3.38
in the third, a 0.96 ERA in the fourth, 1.30 in the 5th, 1.71 in the 6th. Wow. That's
remarkable yeah um but it wasn't remarkable tonight uh he did come back and get a one two three second
ending that ended with a strikeout of ramos then he gave up a lead off solo home run to rice to start
the third inning rice has 39 home runs this season i couldn't even imagine having that kind of power
insane uh yankees were up six to two at that point uh he walked wells in the fourth but gave up no
further damage had a one two three fifth and then he got jones to strike out to start the sixth
before giving up another solo home run this time once again to George Lombard Jr.
That would make it 7 to 2 and that would end Erod's day, understandably.
He was at 100 pitches and not many of them were good.
The biggest problem, Damon, was that he couldn't plan his change up for a strike.
So instead of working his way through that, he just didn't throw it very much.
As we've talked about all season long, and that's another weird thing.
we just had the Merrill Kelly outing where Merrill had nine strikeouts but gave up, you know,
four runs, three earned in four and two thirds.
Yeah.
We weren't having success when guys were getting strikeout totals like that.
And now tonight, Erod's entire game plan that's worked all season long of going change up heavy
as his best pitch was completely abandoned and he went back to trying to get strikeouts.
and then I saw Jeremy Blyche as I was leaving the game while it was seven to two tonight
because I didn't want to stay one minute longer on the concourse.
We politely said hello to each other, but that's not what I wanted to say to Jeremy.
I wanted to say, what the hell happened to the game plan, Jeremy?
What happened?
I thought we were pitching the contact.
All of a sudden that stopped.
It feels like the desperation when the pressure is on goes far beyond just the struggles with the offense.
all of a sudden our pitchers that have pitched consistently all season
are changing the way that they're approaching a game back to
what they were doing last year that really wasn't working
I don't know but I think it's just a small sample size truthfully
but he just didn't throw very many tonight through 16 changeups
50% of them he threw for a strike so I'll just tell you what's not sustainable
way of winning is getting down in games as often as diamond backs do correct and
and that's what's been their Achilles heel really all
season long and it's
fitting that it's the way
that essentially the season feels like
it's going to end as well. Yeah, well,
he went four seam heavy tonight and when I say
that he went really, really heavy. If we look at his pitch
chart tonight, there's a lot of red on there.
46% of his pitches were
four seam fastballs. And then he threw five pitches total.
So basically it was all
four seams for him at one point. He maxed out
at 94.5 miles per hour and he averaged
92.7. He did get six swings
and misses on the fastball.
He threw the curve ball in the cutter, 17% and got two whiffs,
17% each and got two whiffs each.
He threw the change up 16%, got two whiffs on that,
and the sinker, 4% for 12 whiffs total.
But, you know, this is chaos.
As we've seen, it's not the beautiful arcing rainbow
that it tends to be when they're on.
It's a lot.
It's a lot of red.
It's a lot of red fastballs.
everywhere. The curveball, not even competitive with how far outside of the zone it was truly
falling. I think one of the home runs he gave up was on the curve ball. I think one was on the
fastball, if I'm not mistaken. He actually didn't give up a big hit on the changeup. He just
apparently did not have a good feel for it and could not, you know, didn't want to throw it,
didn't want to go to it. And that's how Erod's night went. It just, it really, it's baffling,
but not really because it's this team, right?
But it's just baffling how after watching them play their best baseball
during a stretch in July when they had no business beating the teams that they were beating,
including that sweep of the Dodgers, that this is that same team.
And what's more disheartening about it is this is this team at nearly 100%.
I mean, this team's at 100% as far as the guys that are going to be back this season, right?
Nate Cleveland says, why are we fans of this team?
Geography?
Mostly?
I mean, some of you sickos live elsewhere and you decided to root for this team, but most of us just root for our hometown team.
Emily wants to know if we're mad at her Padres.
Oh, now they're your Padres, Emily.
I know they've been all year.
And yes, we're very mad at them.
We hate them.
But not as much as we hate our own team right now.
True.
Bullpen, obviously, like I said, didn't, it really didn't matter at that point.
You're down seven to two.
Erod had a garbage day.
He gave up five, he did get five strikeout.
So the circle case strikeout meter does deserve that.
The scorebug, Damon, is still incorrect, by the way.
It's still nine to two Arizona.
I'm just, guys, I just wish, you know.
I'm sorry.
Did you change it and then change it back to nine to two?
No, it was like that.
on the,
a different scene.
Get it off my screen.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
Five strikeouts though.
Yay.
Five in a third innings pitch.
Five hits allowed.
Seven earned runs for Erod.
Four walks.
Five strikeouts.
Two home runs given up.
Taylor Clark was fine.
He came in and cleaned up the sixth inning when Erod left.
He gave up one hit.
But Zach Gowan came into this game and finished the game with three innings pitched.
He gave up two hits.
Two runs. One was earned. He'd walked two and struck out two.
It wasn't a god-awful performance by Zach Gallen, but it wasn't good by any means.
And the only problem is it didn't matter by that point.
Zach Gallen wasn't the reason the Diamondbacks lost this game. It was a combination of E-Rod and the offense.
So true, but also, there was a point where I looked at you, Derek, and I said,
hopefully this is the last game. We have to watch that Gallon pitch for this team.
That's fair. That's fair.
that's fair i mean you could definitely chalk that one up when we were having our argument about
mike hazen and and bad moves that he made to being one of the bad moves i mean merrill kelly zach
gallon both disastrous signings last off season for a combined like 45 million ish dollars really
really bad isn't it 60 million because didn't i think zach was like 25 and merrill's like 20
but i could be wrong in saying that oh god anyway things aren't great and uh they don't get work
They don't get better on this show, for sure.
Though, Damon hates me for the fact that I am going to try to do that thing I do,
especially on Friday night losses where I, where I,
Derek, if you do what, if you do the thing that I lobbed up for you to do,
I'm going to be extra upset about it because I just can't take that.
I can't handle that.
Oh, well, I'm going to.
So don't you guys go anywhere.
You're watching the PHA next Diamondback show.

Well, it was another poor effort from the Diamondbacks offense in this game.
It was a poor effort early on, and that poor effort lasted throughout.
They were down five-nothing before a single hitter for the D-backs picked up a bat.
So to their credit, as we've talked about on the show, it's hard.
It's hard.
It's hard to mentally be in a baseball game when you're down five to nothing.
baseball is the weirdest the weirdest uh sport in all of sports right it's weird specifically because of the
fact that a five to nothing lead or deficit i should say it feels like a 30 point deficit in like
basketball or i don't know what would you say like a 21 point deficit in the football game damon like
five to nothing feels fairly huge like you are getting blown out yeah but then you
can also just come back in one single inning and be up six to five out of nowhere.
Yeah, certainly.
I mean, the Padres scored six runs tonight.
In one inning.
Yeah, and I was, when that happened, Derek, I was in the car and I was listening to the radio
and I was thinking about, man, wouldn't that be nice?
I was listening to the sweet, sweet sounds of Greg Schulte on the radio tonight, Derek.
And it just brought me back to the good old days when he was announcing games to the
this team. Chris is great, by the way. But when this team was winning games in the playoffs and
Greg was announcing in 2023, I mean, that is, that's my happy place. Yeah. And, and so it was good
to hear him on the airwaves tonight, but absolutely. But yeah, in listening, yeah, it was,
what were we talking about again? Sorry, I had to get that off. What was the topic that you asked
me about? What was the topic I asked you about? Yeah. I don't remember now. Oh, what were we,
I don't even remember.
I'm not even listening.
I'm not talking about this.
Okay.
I'm in Cancun, Damon.
I'm thinking about what.
Mexico.
Well,
I'm thinking about what we're going to eat tomorrow,
which beach we're going to go to.
I'm not thinking about this game.
Yeah,
I was also thinking about Padres fans being here in the chat.
That was what it was about.
Right.
Good podcasting, but I was essentially what I was going to say is that the,
I heard the Padres scored six.
I thought to myself,
hey, if they can do it, we could do it.
Then I laughed like the Joker in my car thinking about,
the Diamondback scoring six runs in one inning when the season was on the line and how that's
absolutely impossible. So it feels like it's just one of those situations where everything
is possible that could possibly be going wrong right now is going wrong for us.
And everything that could be going right for the Padres is going right at this moment in time.
I guess the other thing I'm confused about is there's people in the chat like AZCards nerd
saying stop with this shit about having faith.
Is he talking to us or is he talking to other people in the chat?
because I don't feel like anything in this show
as at all given anybody the inclination
that this team is still alive
or that we should have faith.
I think he's talking about the chat.
Mathematically, we're not eliminated.
But that could come as soon as Sunday.
That's a fact.
If the Yankees sweep the diamondbacks.
Which could very well happen.
And if the Padres sweep the Marlins,
then it's a rat.
It's that early.
It could come that soon.
Yeah, I really could.
It really could.
Derek,
can we hit some of these other super chats that people send in?
The chat's been on fire tonight.
Scotty Mac, $10, says,
I find it rich that we still think that debacks are a playoff team
when we have a huge sample size of games convincing us that the offense is categorically
dog ass.
Hazen blew it and must be fired.
I definitely think we should hold Mike Hazen accountable,
and I plan on doing so on this show.
I am not advocating for him to be let go necessarily, but I think a lot of the team's problems were very, very obvious for the better part of the offseason and, you know, in lead up to the trade deadline and not enough moves were made to help fix those problems.
Also, Zach Gonzalez, saying Paymond Smith is still on this.
Exhibit A. Yeah. We have Exhibit A down below right there. Payman Smith hitting like 185.
still getting meaningful at batch of this team.
And I believe it was a D-Back's sleeper that tweeted Derek that, like, we, the Diamondbacks,
I think are, this was before last night's game or tonight's game.
Diamondbacks were six and 17 in games that Pave and Smith got three plus played appearances.
And of course, tonight adds to that as well.
So I believe if I'm not mistaken, that makes it six and 18 in the 24 games that Pave and Smith
gets three plus played appearances.
I don't think that's a coincidence.
Just Toast says regardless of management, hitting coach got to go.
He's been really good in the past couple seasons,
but this year has been just a complete polar opposite difference of that.
So I don't know how to handle that necessarily,
but I would imagine that if Tori is gone,
which it feels like he is,
then a lot of the coaching staff will leave with him.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's going to be interesting to see what they could potentially do for replacement
and if they would keep someone like Jeff Bannister around potentially.
Maybe.
I mean, but I just.
I feel like, and I've said this to people before, but it's like, I know that he's not the same personality wise as Tori, but he is very much in the brain trust that is the Tori lovolo clubhouse.
And so are you going to get different results?
Then Tori, then Jeff Bannister is not necessarily what is quote unquote different because that is Tori's right hand manned as things currently stand.
I think that maybe hiring from outside the organization might be truly a bigger difference there.
I don't disagree with that.
We got coach Henry.
in here, 199.
Says Cardinals are 1-0, LFG.
How about that, Derek?
I mean.
The cards, baby.
Red Sea, rise up.
Hold the line?
Hold the line.
Marves back.
Maybe.
He didn't have a very good game last week.
Brandon Chips, $5 says,
hate to say it, boys, but don't we think Cattel situation in Gurriel DFA can take a lot
of the blame for morale loss?
Also, Hayes and horrific trades.
Not Gurreal.
I mean, certainly the season was already trending down and on the brink of, of, of,
looking like this when Gurriel was on the team and Gurriel was bad all season long and wasn't
with the team for a good majority of the season given that he was hurt but they could tell
situation I mean maybe it played its part we'll we'll never know what yeah the alternate reality
looks like if the debacks could we'll never know what the true feelings in that clubhouse are right well
I think I think we can infer what the true feelings in the clubhouse are and it has a little bit more to
do with what Kevin Ginkle was saying I know directly I know you go to that but I'm like that's what I'm saying
know, I wonder what the true feelings are, even from the people that did not say what Kevin
Ginkl said and supported Kutel.
Like, I even said at the time when Kevin, when, when, when Ginkle made that comment,
he almost made it in a very like non-controversial matter of the fact way, where I do believe
that he might have thought other people gave the exact same answer he did and didn't really
probably know at the time that he was giving an answer that was going to like stand out as
much as it did for being as upset with Cattel as it seemed that he, as he seemed to be.
Well, I think, I think that's what, because he was being honest and other people are, are not, I'm not saying that they're being dishonest, but they're definitely, they're trying to stifle the situation, which is completely understandable.
And I think what a lot of, you know, younger players in particular absolutely should do in that circumstance.
It's not their place to start being like, yeah, Ctele, the guy who's been on this team for a super long time, like, he's an idiot.
he's wrong like that's not not that kevin yinkle did that but i think that it's smart of guys that are
younger and have played less with kattel to give them more nothing burger type of answers i mean
kettle's now hitting 249 this season with a 753 ops not great you know not katel marty level
stuff but you know hopefully it's an anomaly and it you know if he's back with this team which
i think that he might be then hopefully we get more classic katell seasons this that's another
thing too is is the people that want them to clean house. I'm interested to know, do you also
want them to trade Cattel? Is that part of it? I'm sure some people, yeah. Because,
because here's the thing. Obviously with a new manager, there's going to be new expectations and
different approach, a different approach overall to all of this. Yeah. So there is a part of me that
feels like a new manager might be able to come in here and put, put Catelle under, you know,
but get him right.
Get him right as far as understanding that he doesn't have that same flexibility, perhaps.
Or maybe if it's a, you know, manager that's stricter and not as player friendly as Tori,
perhaps the conflict gets worse perhaps a divide between team and
Catell gets you know isn't even though this was bad this year maybe maybe it's even
worse with a different manager that's less of a player kind of guy I definitely I think that
you know we've seen that maybe Catell doesn't respond the best to the tough love so you know
I think that's but that for me was the most disappointing part of the whole Cotel Marte
saga because we talked a lot Derek about how like we couldn't do that to our teammates
You know, I couldn't just no show and leave you to do this show by yourself.
And I would feel horrible about it.
That would eat away at me.
And that's where, you know, I had difficulty with the Cattel stuff.
But, you know, like, it feels like Tori has gone out of his way to try to shield Catell.
And despite this situation being four seasons in a row that he's done this to the team,
we've only heard about it the last two because the Dianbacks have done a good job of kind of having his back.
and I feel like Catelle has done a bad job, a poor job of having Tories back.
When, you know, it's all said and done,
Tori's going to be the guy who probably gets sent away.
And is Cotel going to respond better to a new manager that doesn't know him as well personally
the way that Tore Lovolo does?
My guess would be probably not.
So I feel that like that part of it does leave a little bit of a sour taste in my mouth of,
I wish Cotel rode for a guy that has rode for him a lot.
like Tori in the past couple of seasons here in the past handful of years because it feels like he
kind of left him out to dry a little bit.
A lot of people in the chat saying trade his ass, we want him gone.
But again, I'm not even advocating for that.
I think, you know, I'm probably going to reflect and let this culminate a little bit when we
finally get eliminated and then I'll have, I'll let my hot takes fly in the off season.
But you're going to get 50 cents on the dollar of what you were going to get for him at last
years off season, which that's going to be a tough pill to swallow.
Even then the return wasn't good enough, allegedly.
Yeah.
So, you know, that's...
In hindsight, it looks like maybe it would have been.
Maybe it would have been.
Country says Ketel was wrong for no showing, but I think he's back because the team knows
they were wrong in some part two.
Per Gambo, he wanted an MRI and the team refused to listen.
That all of that's weird to me, especially considering that this team in general doesn't
seem to have a problem with putting player health before the team itself.
So to hear that they were trying to make Ketel play through an injury or something like that seems
uncharacteristic of what we've seen from this franchise in the past.
Most people actually get mad that they put people have so many injuries and put so many guys
on the IL, right?
But I mean, the fact of the matter is here, Ketel Marte is being impacted.
the team is being impacted
and yeah
you might say that this season
was lost in Boston
and that was when
that was when everything went
sideways you know yeah
I mean it certainly didn't help and again
the multiverse world where that
doesn't happen maybe the debacks are World Series champions
we'll never know but we never
get to peek into that timeline if you wouldn't
mind going up I think Sam Sam the Suns
fan earlier had a good comparison
about basically
he said that he was like
Durant, right?
Like, it's up earlier than that.
Kevin Durant
Parallel is Durant, although Cattell is a
DeBax legend where Durant is a mercenary,
but I feel similar about them as players
in situation at the moment.
You're not saying Durant's a bad player.
Like, you look at his stats
and you're like, he's a good player.
Theoretically, you should add him to any team
and he should make that team better,
except he doesn't.
And he's kind of this weird problem.
and distraction and can't stay off social media and is habitually addicted to responding to people
and DMs and trying to bully people for no reason at all.
But I wish he would bully this team.
Maybe that's what we need.
We need Kevin Durant to DM Tori and DM Catell and tell them they suck and get in a fight with
them and maybe that'll get something out of them.
Sure thing, man.
This team had a one, two, three first inning.
Perdomo single delete off the second.
And with two outs, Corby and Carol put the debacks on the board.
With a two-run homer, that would be the only runs they would score.
It would cut the deficit at the time to five to two
and gave me a little bit of hope,
gave me a little bit of happiness.
And then that happiness just went away
when the next five batters sat down in a row.
But now it's time for Love the Play from Arizona Lottery,
brought to you proudly by our friends there at Arizona Lottery.
Play and gift today.
And our love the play of the game was Corbyn Carroll's two-run bomb
because why wouldn't it be?
it was the only time we scored.
Plus, it was Corbyn Carroll getting back on track,
which is something that is great to see,
but feels a little too little too late at this point.
We could have really used this Carol last week consistently,
especially in a lot of those close games against the Marlins,
and we did not get him.
But, well, we got him for one walk off,
but not the rest of the series.
This was Carol's 22nd home run of the season.
It was 110.7 miles per hour off the bat.
He hit it very hard, 388 feet to right field.
And it's his 68th extra base hit, which ranks fifth in Major League Baseball,
behind Pete Crowe, Armstrong, Rafael Devers, Yordaun Alvarez, and Matt Olson.
You know, it's a pretty elite company to be.
Agreed.
And as bad as Corbyn has been this season, that's where his value lies is that his hits are very impactful big hits.
He gets a lot of doubles, triples, and home runs.
and it keeps his OPS high, which keeps him fairly valuable,
despite his dip in average this year and his inability to kind of hit with contact.
He has been able to hit with power when he does hit.
And so it makes him a valuable player still,
but we definitely need to figure out how Corbyn can start putting the ball
and play it just a little bit more.
Yep, I get it.
Well, of course, they did not get very much offense after that.
Like I said, the next five batters after his home run sat down in a row.
Perdomo did break that stretch up with a one-out single in the fourth, but then got nothing else.
They got a one-out single from Jesus Sanchez in the fifth, nothing in the sixth.
In the seventh with one-out, Arnato single, Carol gets his second extra-base hit with a double that put two in scoring position, and you know how this story ends.
I don't even need to finish what happened with this description, right?
Two in scoring position, one out, and of course nobody came home.
Fernandez comes into the game for Sanchez, and he and Tau,
both strikeout to end the inning.
Then they have a one, two, three, eighth that featured Marte and Moreno both going down in very big moments of a game that was well out of reach anyway.
Yet you would just still like to see some fight, some fight in these guys.
There was terrible defense tonight.
You had Tawa missing that fly ball in the first inning.
You had Zach Gowan making that weird fielding error in the seventh where he missed the ball that Pavin Smith of all people made an incredible.
job on fielding.
threw it to Zach. He missed it.
They did have some good defense in that same inning, though.
Catelle-Marty made an excellent stop to keep a ball from being a RBI single.
And Tim Tala made an incredible diving catch to make up for the one that he missed earlier.
But again, it was too little too late.
And overall, this offense definitely gave them too little tonight.
And here's our top performers.
It's Geraldo Perdomo, who went two for three.
with a walk.
Yep.
And it's Nolan Aronado who went two for four.
That's it.
The other hits were Jesus Sanchez.
Everybody else went 0 for four or 0 for three.
I want to, you know what?
It's time.
I'm going to drink a beer.
David,
I brought this beer just specifically for what I do.
I didn't know that you'd suck that over here.
I snuck a beer in here.
And it's because I knew I would need it.
There would be an impasse.
And they would be when I would,
I thought it was going to be with.
Eduardo Rodriguez, but it's the offense pissing me off because the offense has been so bad.
I don't even understand what happened.
I don't even understand how they've all collectively gone so bad.
But we do have to name a Kingsnake and you know who it is.
Why do I even have to tell you?
Why am I doing the show?
What's the point of any of this anymore?
Corbyn Carroll, two for four, one home run, one double, two RBI, one special, special homegrown wonder boy.
but we unfortunately don't have nine of them.
Nine Corbyn Carols would go crazy.
Oh my God.
That would be special.
It would be great.
It would be great.
It really would be.
All right.
Let's take a quick break.
On the other side of this break,
it's time to play the blame game.
I've opened a beer.
I want to grow in size and I want to scream about stuff.
But my voice cannot do that tonight.
So we're just going to turn all the lights on and decide which ones we're going to turn off.
So don't you go anywhere.
watching the pH next diamond back show.
Well, I need my voice back by October 16th through the 18th because the chase returns
to Phoenix Raceway and it is NASCAR playoff time.
Look, just because our baseball team doesn't make the playoffs, doesn't mean we can't
pick a driver and watch him win the whole damn thing.
And as I've told you time and time again, that driver's name is Ryan Blaney.
And if you want to go cheer on Ryan at the chase, which returns to Phoenix Raceway, October 16th
through the 18th. You can watch him and NASCAR's other championship contenders battle at the
freeway insurance 500 in one of the most critical races on the road to champ the championship at this
iconic track. I'm going to be so mad if I watch Ryan Blaney win a race in front of me again at Phoenix
Raceway like we did last year only for some other Gibroni to be named champion. Oh,
it's like watching the Diamondbacks miss the playoffs. It really is. But you can get some great ticket
options, including RV camping as well as grandstand seating.
Hillside views, two and three-day race packages.
All of that makes planning easy.
But you got to get access to the best access in all of sports.
Not just motorsports, all of sports.
You go inside the garages, walk the track,
meet the drivers, and catch the pre-race concert
with the Desert Diamond Casino Infield Experience.
Experience the intensity of the freeway insurance 500 weekend
from October 16 through the 18th at Phoenix Raceway.
Secure your tickets now at Phoenix Raceway.com.
That's phoenix raceway.com.
And you know that moment when you realize that your baseball team isn't going to make the playoffs.
No, that's not the moment I'm talking about.
The moment I'm talking about is when you lost your sunglasses.
You know the exact moment.
You do one of these.
You're like, where did they go?
Do I put them back here?
Did I set them down?
Do I have them in my bag?
You know they're not in your bag because you know you lost them.
And that's a terrible feeling to have.
But thanks to the fine folks at Shady Rays, you will never have to have that feeling again
because even if you lost your sunglasses,
you know you can get a brand new pair from Shady Ray's.
No questions asked thanks to their lost and broken replacement plan.
Not only do they have that amazing warranty program,
but they also have some amazing frames that will make your face look amazing,
amazing lenses that'll make everything look amazing to your eyes
and lots of amazing stuff to be had over at Shady Ray's.
And now I wear my sunglasses without fear of losing them,
and I never lose them now because of that.
Because I know I'm not going to lose them,
or if I do lose them, I get to replace them.
I never lose them.

Damon, the people are calling for it.
AZ Cards Nerd has had enough of us talking about this baseball game.
He wants us to start getting mad about this baseball game,
as if we haven't already done that enough.
But it's time to make me gigantic on a billboard on some highway.
here in this state and it is time to once again play.
New version of death.
These different lights shouldn't be on.
Everybody's to blame.
Who isn't to blame?
Go.
You tell us, pitching.
Ha!
You're going to have a hard time convincing me that pitching is to blame tonight.
Two runs against the Yankees?
You know that's not going to be good enough.
You might not blame Corbyn Carroll, but there's eight other guys you can blame.
Actually, nine, because Jose Fernandez.
as came into this game as a pinch hitter.
Defense?
I don't know how Tim Tawa missed that ball.
I don't.
You tell me.
Speed, routes?
I don't know.
The Yankees thought he was going to catch it.
I thought he was going to catch it.
Manager.
Management.
Tori Lobolo, coaching staff,
pitching coach, hitting coach,
third base coach.
Now, let's not get J.R. House involved.
I like him.
He's not to blame
If there was a third base coached light
We would turn that off
But there's not
It's just manager as a whole
He gets blamed
And his entire staff
Under him gets blamed
And I'm even blaming
Some of the legends too
I don't know
Like I said
I didn't see
Young Kim coming down
To help us
I didn't see Luis Gonzalez
Pick up a bat one time
Steve Vinley didn't bring his glove
With him to Chase Field
Why not?
Why wouldn't you?
I'm not saying
you knew you needed it.
I'm just saying you didn't know you wouldn't need it.
Are we turning any of these lights off?
No.
No, I don't think so.
Two errors tonight?
They all stay on, Derek.
Two errors tonight.
Two runs scored.
Seven hits.
Five runs given up in the first inning by our pitchers.
We're a bad baseball team right now.
I think the most important part is that.
That's why all of these other lights can be on equal.
for this loss, but the manager light might need to be the brightest tonight.
How do you not have this team better prepared?
How do you not have this team better motivated?
In fact, I find it kind of troublesome that sometimes when we ask Tori about this stuff,
he almost makes it out like they don't need to be motivated.
They're adults, they're big boys.
They understand what's on the line.
I don't know, man.
I need to be motivated every single day by something.
something, by something.
Most of the time, it's just me not wanting to get harassed by people telling me that I didn't do stuff.
I don't like messages telling me that I did a poor job at anything.
So that's my main motivation, preventing those messages from coming to me several times per day.
And outside of that, my main motivation is keeping my daughter from being disappointed in me just as a person at all times.
That's my main motivation, right?
But it doesn't mean that I still don't need Damon to come in here and give me a pep talk before a show.
Damon fires me up sometimes.
You guys don't even see that side of him.
Coach Damon is what I like to call him.
I mean, sometimes I wish I was coaching.
But, yeah, I mean, sometimes it feels like, you know, you're more fired up than the team is, right?
And I think that's what it's concerning.
I liked what I heard from Mark Grace in the post game tonight because I was telling you, Derek, that it feels like from
a lot of people that work in and around the debacks and this is no shot at them this is the job that
they have and it makes life miserable if you're just going to walk around with your hood on and be like
man this team sucks like i get it people want to bring some positivity to the table but i feel like
it's a lot of like ah shucks this is baseball it just kind of goes like this and i liked what i heard
from mark grace tonight because he in the post game with todd walsh he basically was like i just
I don't think that the effort level tonight was acceptable.
Yes.
With the,
that's what I'm talking about.
With the people in the building and you're celebrating the ring that you won and you know the playoffs are on the line and you got the legends here on the field talking to the guys pregame.
That was not an acceptable level of effort that the team gave.
It didn't feel like tonight because it was game over from the second this one started.
And so that's where, you know, I definitely think that from a place that I really haven't blamed Tori all season, it feels like his message is clearly not getting through to the team in this final stretch because there's no way, shape, or form that you should not be fired up to play in this one.
And it just feels like this team is kind of floating away into the ocean and letting themselves die.
They're just, they just have no fire.
They have no fire, it looks like, to compete and to.
win their way.
It's like they forgot how special
2023 was and how they
scraped by to get into that
playoff. But when they got in there,
look at what happened. Look at what happened.
And Stanley's right.
Stanley says, Derek's living in the office space world.
I 100%.
I am. I am.
Because the thing is, Stanley,
it's not that I'm lazy.
It's that I don't care.
This is about motivation.
Right?
Now, if the D-BACs players work their ass off and they win a few games in a month,
they don't see another dime.
So where's the motivation?
And here's something else, Stanley.
I have eight different bosses in this office.
I really do have a different bosses.
I'm one of them.
I'm one of the eight.
Damon is one of the people that harasses me.
Oh, you didn't use captions.
We have performance review meetings at there weekly.
We're all eight of us go and sit in the office and we all stare at him and he sits in a seat,
kind of in the middle of it's weird it's weird how like they keep referring it to it as the
debacks beat but then it's just me that they're yelling at i don't get it um yeah well
thank you for participating in the blame game with us i think this one was a slam dunk and very easy
to do damon if you don't mind can we flash the numbers from this game up on screen i know you put
effort into it it's like what i said about erriton the other night i want you to leave this on
screen as long as you feel like it deserves to be on screen for the effort you put into creating
it. Diamondbacks lose this one by a score of nine to two. Yankees had three extra base hits. The
Diamondbacks had two extra base hits. The Yankees were two for eight with runners in scoring
position. Two for eight. Two for eight. Three extra base hits. We should have beat this team tonight.
Oh for four. They should not have scored nine runs off of us. 32.1% hard hit percentage for the
Yankees to the Diamondbacks,
21.7.
Of course,
of course,
the Diamondbacks had an higher expected batting average
because baseball's outrageous
and it makes me scream at the sky.
248 expected batting average for the Diamondbacks,
210 for the Yankees.
The game definitely did not go that way.
And both teams were one for two with Rennard,
with ABS challenges.
And they have Paul Goldschmidt.
Oh,
and we don't.
We have Pavin Smith.
Both extra base hits for Corby and Carroll,
by the way.
Oh, well.
Correct.
I think this team's clogging my arteries.
Who'd have thought, Derek, when we made that trade to trade Paul Goldschman away all those years ago,
that we'd be sitting here like eight years later or whatever,
seven years later.
And he'd still be a good, valuable baseball player hitting a leadoff on a playoff team.
And Pavin Smith would still be hitting fifth for the Arizona Diamondbacks with an average
under the Mendoza line.
I remember they were like,
oh, well,
this guy,
Christian Walker is going to be
the bridge from Goldschmidt
to Pavin Smith.
Oh, my God.
Unbelievable.
Still,
one of Mike Hazen's biggest regrets.
If not,
as he said,
his biggest regret is the,
is that.
Zach wants to know
if we could put walks up there.
Zach, the Diamondbacks had
one walk and you know it.
And that was to the six walks
that the Yankees had.
Sounds about right.
Sounds about.
About right.
Five men left on base for the Yankees, six men left on base for the Diamondbacks.
That even seems high.
They had seven hits tonight.
We're going to take a quick break.
On the other side of this break,
I'm going to try to do the thing that I promised Damon.
Please don't.
I'm going to totally do it.
Can we just hit the final super chat and get out of you maybe?
No, maybe.
I don't know.
Derek, no.
Don't worry.
Don't you worry.
I could sum them up and you're going to love it.
We're going to talk about this in your performance review next.
week. I'm going to drink a beard by performance review too, so don't expect me not to do that.
But let's take a quick commercial break when we come back. I'm going to piss Damon off,
even more than he's already pissed off. This is the PHNX Diamondback show.

com and go sun devils go devils damon we could not go sun devils i know not yeah you know you
did December but we couldn't even win in front of the legends i still i still can't get over that
um not things aren't good for the diamond backs and i don't need to tell you that in fact we are
we are starting to get people that are telling us to like hey you guys should probably worry more
about what the cubs and the fillies are doing than worrying about the pardres and as much as i would
like to do that, Damon. We simply can't because, unfortunately, we do not play the Cubs and we do
not play the Phillies the rest of the season. However, all three of those teams are currently tied
with the exact same record, which just goes to show how ridiculously good those stupid-ass
Padres have been. Those ringless bums from San Diego cannot be stopped. They're nine and one in their
last 10 games. They have an 85 and 69 record, as do the Phillies and the Cubs.
So as much as our game plan was, as Damon detailed the other day, just to keep within
shouting distance of the Padres so that when we play them in that series, it matters, it means
something.
Perhaps, just perhaps, one of these other teams collapses just enough that the Diamondbacks
can find their way in.
That's feeling far more likely than the Padres.
However, that still involves beating the Padres in the final series of the season.
none of these teams are going to collapse enough
where all the Diamondbacks are going to need to do
is pick up one win against the Yankees,
one win against the Padres and two or three against the Rockies,
and it's going to be enough.
They're going to have to step up,
and they're going to have to do it against Cam Explitler,
Schlittler, I'll say his real name.
They're going to have to do that in this series against the Yankees.
They have to win.
They have to win.
I mean, they have to win tomorrow and they have to win Sunday, period.
But if they can get one more and then somehow miraculously pull off two sweeps in a row when they only have four sweeps all season long, maybe, just maybe, there's still a chance.
But that seems unlikely at this point, very much so.
And again, that elimination number is down to four, but that's basing it on the Padres, you know, and we don't know what these other teams are going to do.
The Phillies still have some tough games ahead, as do the Cubs.
And the Padres.
I mean, the Padres have a three-game series with the Dodgers before they play us.
But I'm not, I refuse to get my hopes up.
We've already declared this season dead.
And I will not Dr. Frankenstein it until we're in the final weekend of the year.
Speaking of which next week's schedule is going to be very weird, I'm just going to give you guys that now ahead of time.
We'll have no show on Friday because we are going to do a post-game show for the last game of the season,
winner or lose, eliminated or not.
Damon and I will be here in this studio, both watching.
football and baseball. Yes, I'm going to say it. I'm going to be honest. We're going to watch both,
but we will be watching baseball and we will bring you a postgame show on Sunday. We'll also be bringing
you a watch-along at some point next week. Perhaps it's the elimination game or perhaps it's for that
Sunday game. That's the final game of the year. But we'll be bringing you a watch along and it's
going to be a little fluid based on when the Diamondbacks could potentially be eliminated or
somehow miraculously be in a game where they could actually clinch a playoff spot.
We're going to keep things very flexible as well, though.
So if, you know, potentially if there's some something crazy happens on a Saturday or whatever,
Derek and I will be there for it.
Yeah, just be.
Just not on Friday.
Yeah.
I'm not working on Friday.
I'm racing a car around Phoenix Raceway.
So I'm not, I refuse to come to work after experiencing that high.
If something nuts happens, then I'll consider going live potentially for it as well.
Oh, I'll tell you this much.
Damon thinks he's mad at me for what I'm about to say.
He'd be so mad at me at how happy I would be on that Friday after racing my car at racetrack.
But it would almost equal the happiness that I get out of congratulating the Amarillo sod poodles on winning the Texas League South.
Let's go, Saudis.
You thought I wasn't going to make you happy, but you're feeling good.
You like that.
They punched their ticket to the postseason.
They drew the Frisco Rough Riders, which if any of you watched our videos from when we did
the All-Star Game in Texas, we visited the Frisco Ruff Riders ballpark simply so I could hang
out in their lazy river that they have in right field.
And let me tell you, it was 100% worth the hour drive that it took us to get there.
And I have zero regrets about it.
just like I have zero regrets talking about the Amarillo Saad Poodles.
Winning tonight, they lost game one to the Rough Riders,
eight to seven in a wild extra innings affair in ten innings.
They erased a six-run deficit in game two to win that game by a score of 12 to seven.
And the Saad Poodles advanced to the championship game for the Texas League championship
tonight with a win over the Rough Riders in game three.
Let's go.
Boo this man.
Let's go.
Boo this man with everything that you have, chat.
Sorry, Lordus.
You're not sorry.
I am not sorry.
You're right.
This is where ruckus goes now.
This is a ruckus podcast.
And we're exclusively going to bring you the finals of the Texas League championship.
I hate you, Derek.
You see, what you have to do in life is find.
things that make you happy.
That's a very important part of this.
Find things that give you joy.
And in this case, it's the only team within this Godforsaken franchise and organization
that's winning anything right now.
I apologize, Chad.
I actually gave him the idea because I said to Derek, oh, I bet in segment four, you're
going to hit us with, oh, congrats to the Amarillo Zodhoodles on their Texas League championship.
and he immediately it's like a light bulb it's like a light bulb went off in his head it's like a light bulb went off in his head and he immediately goes to the rundown starts giggling like a little school girl putting it together we get it derrick you like tormenting us and torturing us some of us care about this MLB franchise and the fact that they continue to be the first team out of the playoffs it feels like year after year after year and you want to tell us about double
baseball.
Boo this man.
Amarillo scored six runs tonight in the first inning to secure that game three
victory.
And I just like offense, Damon.
I hate you so much.
I know.
I appreciate you guys so much for joining us.
And I appreciate Damon for not murdering me after this period of time.
Wait until we go off air, brother.
I don't want the evidence to be right there.
I mean, you're already going to be a main suspect considering that we're playing each
in fantasy football this week.
But yeah, if I lose, then it's truly we're going to be having real conversations on Monday, Derek.
We do have one more super chat.
Oh, our guy, super toast.
Just toast.
Yeah, super toast.
Super toast.
I love that.
Consider a name change, brother.
Super toast is sitting right there for you.
$5.
I see why people place blame on Hazen, though I think no GM goes into the season expecting his stars
to crap the bed.
The stars got to perform.
And I completely understand that.
Something that Derek and I talked about earlier in the week.
where that is the part about Mike Hazen this year where it's hard to put blame on him is that
why should he go into this year expecting Corbyn-Caryl-Catel-Marte and Geraldo for Dono
to all let this team down over the course of 162 games.
That's a tough thing to build off of he did a great job building the bullpen, but.
And the supporting cast was not the reason why.
They were rough.
Some of the supporting cast, but the first base situation is really, really rough.
And again, that that is something that you.
and I absolutely agree on, right?
The fact that their DH did not get injured, their first baseman was not lost for the season due to a season ending injury.
This was a topic.
They were just all cut.
They were so bad.
Well, no, but I'm just saying this was a topic that you and I discussed during the offseason.
Yeah.
And this is something you and I discussed when they added Carlos Santana to this team.
And this is something that you and I discussed at the trade deadline.
and several times during the first half
and every single time you wanted them to go out
and get both Yordon Alvarez and Terrick Scoubel, right?
But the reason why you had those ridiculously foolish, ambitious goals
was because that's what this team needed.
They needed another starter and not just any starter.
They needed a good starter and they needed a bat
and they needed a DH.
They needed a first basement and they didn't add any of that.
No, they got a fourth outfield there,
which was not what the team necessarily needed.
a fourth, a fifth.
They already had Max Kepler.
Well, I'm saying like he's like the fourth outfielder on the team.
Yeah, no,
he might be a little higher than that, but I was under exaggerating by a little bit.
But yeah, and I like New Bar, but I would have liked New Bar on top of a first
basement and a starting pitcher.
And I would have been like, Mike Hazen, what a deadline, my guy.
They make that move for Clay Holmes.
Yeah.
Then add Lars New Bar.
That's a completely different trade.
It's better.
It's better for sure.
We also have a cool bro super chat, Derek.
He says, 499, three years straight of no playoffs.
Nothing changed if nothing changes.
Whether it be the roster manager, GM president, something needs to change.
And I think we'll see some big time changes in way of the coaching staff in particular.
I agree.
I agree.
And it's unfortunate because Damon and I have very much enjoyed our Sunday dinners over at the LaVallo household for sure.
One last one ride.
We're going to have to get one last one.
One last ride with the cameras on for the people potentially, Derek.
That would be special.
We might finally film that Sunday dinner so that you guys all get to enjoy it.
I look into the Lovolo household.
Yeah.
I also, this wasn't a super chat, but this is from Charles way earlier in the show, Derek.
And he said, this is a crap show.
What a disappointment.
And I read it exactly like that off that.
That's how you know I was just like ready to fight just walking into this one.
Because I read that as what a crap show.
What a disappointment.
I was like, and you know what?
Screw you two, Charles.
because we don't have to be here on a Friday night.
We choose to be here.
And then I was like, oh, he's talking about the Diamondbacks.
Like, what a crap show this season has become.
What a disappointment.
And I'm just, I'm ready to just full scale swing on whoever wants to come after us right now, Derek,
because it's about as depressing of a time as it could possibly get.
Cool, bro, super chat.
One more from him.
He says, fire whoever wanted to bring back Pave-in.
That's fair.
I'm actually kind of with it.
But, I mean, you guys do understand how DFAing a player works, right?
Like, you don't bring him back.
He just, he comes back because he cleared waivers and no one picked him up.
And so he came back.
They didn't like actively bring him back.
I mean, they called him back up on the major league roster.
I mean, he had a 900 OPS and 47 games.
Brother, no one cares.
I quite literally, no one cares about what payments with is doing the AAA Reno.
I would very much like to go back and look at everybody.
offensive numbers since Pavin came back just to see that off like offensively
Pavan has not by far been the worst person out there.
We're one in five since he got back up on that.
That's that's we were in a playoffs.
That's four people blaming him for that like we were in a playoff spot.
Curse his team and look don't don't try to defend Payne.
No, I wasn't going to do that.
I was going to say don't make if you really want to see a fight happen live on
air that's that's how you make it happen.
All right, I'm done with this and this show and people giving thumbs down every time we talk about pavement.
So we'll see you guys back here on Monday.
Maybe we're eliminated by then.
Who knows?
Who knows?
It's going to take a little bit more than that, I think, to eliminate this team.
But we will be back on Monday regardless.
I don't think the Diamondbacks have a game on Monday.
So they start that series with the Rockies on Tuesday.
We'll be here with you for postgame shows Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, as well as Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday if necessary.
Not Friday.
I'm racing cars on Friday.
Don't forget that.
But until then, I hope you guys
all have a wonderful weekend.
You can follow us on social.
I'm at cap underscore K-Man with a K.
Damon is at Damon Dog with the DAWG.
But we are all, of course,
Damon's dogs, except him.
He's not.
Don't leave a like for Derek, guys.
He doesn't deserve one tonight.
Leave a like for your boy.
Leave a like for yourselves.
Pat yourselves on the back with a like.
But yeah, Derek, he doesn't deserve that like from you tonight.
Stop with the minor league baseball.
Literally.
Pavan was actually,
his Hall of Fame stats in AAA Rino.
The highest of a elevation minor league stadium in the world.
Amarillo Saaboodles, I will talk about the goddamn Hillsborough hops if I want to.
This is a baseball show.
It's a D-back show.
This is the Arizona Derrick podcast.
Don't forget that.
All right, let's get out of here.
I'm at Kapp underscore K, man.
He's the dog thing.
Our show is P.H and X underscore something.
The stupid roads all lead to at PHNX underscore sports.
I'm not telling you all this stuff again because I hate everything.
Our baseball team has forsaken us.
I'm getting raptured.
Damn, to wrap it up.
Love you guys.
We'll see you back here on Monday.
Until then, I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
I remember kids baseball is fun.
But really, right now, it's not fun.
unless you're rooting for the Amaril Assad poodles.
