PHNX Arizona Diamondbacks Podcast - POSTGAME: D-backs RALLY BACK From Early Deficit But Dodgers Escape & Even Series

Episode Date: June 3, 2026

The Arizona Diamondbacks dug themselves an early hole against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday, as Michael Soroka surrendered four runs over the first two innings. But after another resilient comeba...ck effort, the D-backs battled all the way back and nearly erased the deficit before ultimately falling 6-5. We break down Soroka’s rough start, the adjustments that helped him settle in, and whether there’s any cause for concern moving forward. We also discuss the pivotal runs allowed by Jonathan Loaisiga and why the bullpen’s season-long excellence may have spoiled us. Plus, we check in on Tyler Locklear’s production with Triple-A Reno and discuss the impact of pitching prospect Mitch Bratt landing on the 7-day injured list. 0:00 Tough loss to take...  9:30 Rally comes up just short  15:30 What's wrong with Geraldo Perdomo?  21:30 Michael Soroka's outing  30:40 Is the Johnny Lasagna experience over?  45:35 RISP kills D-backs (again)  50:25 Trade deadline wishlist  1:00:40 Updates from Reno Limited-time offer! Starting point is 00:00:00 The Arizona Diamondbacks could not overcome an early four-run deficit, though they made this game close. They ultimately fall short due to the bullpen giving up two late runs. We're going to talk about the 6-5 loss and why that decision may have had a huge impact on this game, and we're doing it right now. Well, welcome in to another edition of the PHNX Diamondbacks post game show live from Studio K, presented by Circle K. that's the most excitement I can muster up. I had a little bit more energy there. The Diamondbacks gave me some life late in this game as they attempted to make what was looking like a heroic comeback
Starting point is 00:00:49 only for it to fall short against the Dodgers, losing by a score of 6 to 5. My name is Derek Montia, occasionally known as your mayor of P.HNX. I am not alone tonight. I have my dog on the chain. It's my dog. It's your dog.
Starting point is 00:01:03 It's the D-Back's dog. It's Damon Dog, aka Damon Farrell. And he's not happy. I hate everything. He hates everything. And he hates losses more than it. He hates that goddamn music more than anything. But of course, we have a lot to talk about here.
Starting point is 00:01:19 And like I said, the Diamondbacks did lose tonight's game, which is unfortunate. But this show is brought to you by our friends at Bet365, Bet365, where winning is everything. Download the app today and use that code of PHNX 365 when you sign up. We're also brought to you by GameTime. Download the GameTime app. create an account and use code PHNX for $20 off your first purchase terms to apply. The Diamondbacks drop to 32 and 28 on the season with the loss tonight to the Dodgers. They are now 15 and 8 going back to May 9th and at least in the good news department,
Starting point is 00:01:58 spinning things a little positively here. The debacks are still 12 and 3 in their last 15 games against National League West opponents, dating back to May 15th. But tonight, Diamondbacks almost pulled off an improbable comeback against the Dodgers, only for it to fall short. And again, I have to ask the question, what hurts worse, the coming up short or just getting blown out?
Starting point is 00:02:25 If the Diamondbacks would have lost 6 to 1 tonight, is that better than losing 6 to 5? It makes it hurt less, but it makes you care more, I guess, if this is the type of baseball game that you get, you know. You're right. That's reflected in our post-game podcast numbers, that's for sure. A hundred percent.
Starting point is 00:02:42 Like if this was 8-1 Dodgers, people were in bed an hour ago. Yeah, we appreciate you guys being here in any capacity with us right now to talk about a loss. But you're right. The nature of this loss makes it more interesting, kept us all engaged more. I will venture to say that there is something more to it than that. I will say that I kind of believe. believe in this team more than ever after tonight's game. Even though they lost, I was ready to wrap it up.
Starting point is 00:03:13 I was ready to pack it up after two innings tonight, head back to the PHNX HQ3, right? Instead, what we saw was Michael Soroka after struggling early, get things back on track and actually be pretty damn good, giving the Diamondback six innings after, again, what was looking like an absolute disastrous start for him. And the Diamondbacks offense, Claude back, against this Dodgers team and, you know, came back from a four-run deficit,
Starting point is 00:03:41 only for their bullpen to give up two late runs that ended up being the difference maker in a one-run loss. I will say this, though, even as excited as I just got there for a second, saying that this team fought back, I hate what this team can do sometimes against a bad starting pitcher. They can make a guy that they should have jumped all over early and knocked out of of this game early, looked like a Sigh-Young candidate for a period of time there. Eric Lauer, you know, started things off here
Starting point is 00:04:13 with a 1-2-3 first inning of the Diamondbacks that just, they went down without a fight. He entered the game with a 5.95 ERA on the season, Damon. I mean, yeah, he's not a good pitcher. And I was shocked to see him on the Probables
Starting point is 00:04:29 graphic, to be honest with him. Correct. Correct. And if you were looking at the way that this was set up, the four-game series, you probably thought that today was the Diamondback's best opportunity of winning a game. And again, they did get some runs against Lauer, and he did only last four and two-thirds innings pitch. But again, the Diamondbacks just didn't. It took too long.
Starting point is 00:04:49 It took too long to get there. Yeah, that is exactly what it comes down to. It took far too long to get there. In the second, Nolan Arnato got on base with a lead-off walk. And then with two outs, Jose Fernandez, single, but the debacks don't get a run in that situation. And then in third, Corbyn Carroll delivered with a two-out home run, his eighth homer of the year. It had a 97.8 mile per hour exit velo and barely got out going 354 feet to right field or to left field and bouncing on the top of the bullpen wall before finally going into the out for a home run, right? but again the offense just entirely too many innings of not much going on in between you know
Starting point is 00:05:37 where they were able to put up a run here and there in the fifth inning Jorge Barrosa finally got a hit to lead off the fifth Derek we're going streaking Jorge Barrosa got a hit that's actually a really big deal Damon I know it is his last hit prior to it tonight was on May 10th and he was one for 25 prior to getting this lead off single. It's so bad. And like again, we just said last night one, one night ago, we said that Barrosa might have helped them win game one with his glove defensively in center field tonight. You know, it was just a reminder of how unproductive he's been at the plate. And then again, Tommy Troy moved Barossa to third who scored on a Cateau-Marty Sackfly to make it four to two.
Starting point is 00:06:30 It's silly to say this, but it just goes to show the importance of those guys in the 7, 8, and 9 hole getting on base. And unfortunately, the Diamondbacks have had a few guys that have kind of been a black hole when they're hitting 6 through 9. Barrosa has been one of them. Alec Thomas was another. We also tweeted about Alec Thomas tonight because somebody had to bring him up, almost suggesting that maybe it would be better to have Thomas here than Barrosa. Damon, I hate to break it to that particular
Starting point is 00:07:01 individual, but again hit me with the stats, Derek. As I tweeted out, Alec Thomas was DFAed by the Diamondbacks. He was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers, and they have since then placed him on their Arizona Complex League team
Starting point is 00:07:17 here in Arizona, where in his three games played, he's currently slashing 083, 154, 23. So no, I don't think we would be getting better production out of Alec Thomas. So I do think that this obviously... That doesn't sound very good. What he's going through right now is a whole other thing,
Starting point is 00:07:37 and I'm sure it has far more to do with this whole situation mentally, considering how much of a game baseball is played in your mind and not actually on a field. But it's definitely not a better option than Rosa. What I will say is Jordan Lawler, when he returns, is going to be a much better option in center field. and I think he's going to be able to provide this team with incredible defense as well.
Starting point is 00:08:00 So I do think that when Lawler comes back, that's going to be the answer. Unfortunately, for the time being, we just have to kind of hopefully make it through this stretch until Jordan returns and get to that point. I mean, there definitely could have been a different lineup out there. And I definitely like Tommy Troy in the lineup and out there as an outfielder rather than Barrosa,
Starting point is 00:08:23 if I'm being completely honest, right? So it's difficult. Difficult decisions are going to have to be made. And I don't know Barros's future with this team, but again, I know this is just a small sample size right now of how he's struggling. It's just not getting any production there. And like I said, when he did get on base, he eventually scored a run on. I could tell Marte-Sack fly. So again, those guys down there could get on.
Starting point is 00:08:51 This team could find themselves to be, you know, productive offensively. They had a big seventh inning, though. At the time, down 6-2, where they just gave up two more runs at the top of the sixth. Marte walked to lead off the inning with one out. Gabriel Moreno walked to put two on, and then Nolan Aronado delivered with a two RBI double to left field that scored Marte and Marino, cut the lead down to 6 to 4 and got the Diamondbacks right back in this ballgame. Then with two outs, Walshmet walked and Perdomo single to load the bases. the Diamondbacks then pinch hit for Barrosa bringing in
Starting point is 00:09:26 Pavin Smith for a legacy at bat. Yeah, it was a like, it was a true legacy at bat. Every Pavan Smith at bat is a legacy. It does feel that way right now. He walked, again, showing how well he knows the strike zone. And even that could be a big advantage over other options that the Diamondbacks have right now for D.H. and other situations. But he walked with the bases loaded to bring in another run and may get sick.
Starting point is 00:09:52 to five. And then the Diamondbacks get out. I think Tommy Troy grounded out. But the eighth, the eighth inning felt like it, like the magic was still there. Like the Diamondbacks were just still keeping the things going from the seventh. And with one out, Carol and Moreno both singled to put two on with one out down six to five. And Nolan Arnado, the guy who just did it in the seventh inning, comes up to bat again. And this time, hits into the inning-ending double play. Hated that. Hated that.
Starting point is 00:10:27 And that pretty much felt like it was the game. The Diamondbacks did get a base runner in Ildemar Vargas in the ninth inning. You had a close play with what happened there over with Harold Opredomo out on the sack bunt. And then Pavin Smith and another legacy at bat grounded out to end the game. Diamondbacks lose six to five. But like I said earlier, I'm out on Pave and Smith. You got to be out on Pave and Smith, Damon. We need Damon out.
Starting point is 00:10:55 I was calling for him this weekend and I think I'm already out on Pave and Smith. But that just means that Pave and Smith's legacy breakout game is right around the corner, guys. So I'm just trying to do my part. I'm trying to do my part. Still had some good performances tonight from the Diamondbacks offensively. And like I said, you got to like the fight. You got to like the fight against the Dodgers team that is not flawless. And we saw that tonight.
Starting point is 00:11:20 They have weaknesses. and you can get to those weaknesses. Today was a game they should have won. And unfortunately, you know, Michael Soroka, like I said, put them in an early, early hole, early deficit. They were able to overcome that. And had the bullpen been perfect as it normally has been inexplicably over this stretch, we would be,
Starting point is 00:11:43 we'd be walking away with a five to four victory. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. We're going to talk about the pitching on the other side of our break. But before that, again, we've got to give our flowers to a few guys. Ryan Walschmidt tonight. He was two for five. Again, felt like he contributed more than half of the starting lineup again. So it was good to have him in there. Diamondbacks just need to seem to find that right balance as far as their starting lineup goes. I like Moreno hitting where he hit tonight. He hit third. I like that. I like Moreno maybe hitting
Starting point is 00:12:14 fourth or Aaronado hitting fourth and Moreno hitting fifth. But those two guys, they have been big at times for this team. So I feel like both of those guys need to be hit. getting higher in the lineup. So again, Moreno one for three tonight, two walks. You had Arnano had that big double. He was one for four with two RBI and a walk. And of course, you also had our King Snake tonight. Corbyn, couldn't do it all, but he tried to two for five, one home run, one RBI, one run scored. So again, it was another day where the entire starting lineup at least contributed here and tried to get the win. However, Catelle Marte was 0 for 3 with a Sackfly RBI and a walk. And once again, not to put this all on Marte's shoulders,
Starting point is 00:13:05 but Damon and I have been talking about how in so many of these losses, it feels like we're just one Cattel Martte hit away from a win. And tonight, it definitely felt like we were once again just one Cattel Marte hit away from a win. If that sack fly that he hits is a double instead of a sack fly, again, we might be talking about the Diamondbacks taking this game home. That would have been in the fifth inning with Tommy Troy and Barrosa on the corners. Cotell Marte hits a double there that scores both of those guys. Again, it's a tie ball game at the time making it, or making it four to three instead of
Starting point is 00:13:48 4 to 2 or kattel it's a home run there you know it's a tie ball game so uh not to put it all again on kutel but uh it definitely does feel like it's yeah it's not like we're not blaming katel i think that that's that's what what you're trying to yeah i'm not blaming him but it's like the seattle it feels like we we live and die with kattel marty felt like it would have been the difference maker in two of those games yeah had we had that hit especially a timely hit that those two losses are wins instead of losses. Yeah. It feels like we live and die with Ketel right now.
Starting point is 00:14:24 And that's not the worst place to be. There's, you know, he's one of the best hitters in baseball and he's, he's overall pretty hot. Like, yes, he's cooled down a little bit.
Starting point is 00:14:34 But, you know, I definitely, you know, don't think that that's us blaming him. That's just pointing out that like when he's having his good games recently, the diamondbacks tend to win. And,
Starting point is 00:14:44 you know, when he has failed to come through, unfortunately, it ends up in a night like tonight where you lose by one run. You know, a lot of other factors go into it. Perdomo. I mean,
Starting point is 00:14:55 like we got to talk about Perdomo at some point. That's what everybody on Twitter wants to talk about Derek is how bad or although Perdomo has been. Well, and I get it. Out of the line up tonight, right? But then he was terrible when he came in.
Starting point is 00:15:09 Yeah. That, I mean, he bunted in a 3-1 count and got out. I mean, he was almost safe. And yeah, we were like,
Starting point is 00:15:16 we were like damn he was so close well but it was a pretty egregious decision honestly in that moment i don't know man it's it's tough sliding right now but we're gonna be we're gonna figure it out we're gonna we're gonna have a comeback i promise i i mean i still like perdomo came in first in the seventh inning right in the bottom of the seventh and he got a single so like again it's not i i don't know i mean i i know that the bunt situation wasn't great but i think the diamondbacks were just trying to put that pressure on the Dodgers defense to make a perfect play. And, you know, again, expecting them not to, right? They are fairly good defensively, right?
Starting point is 00:15:57 This isn't a team that's any kind of slouch. But they also felt it also felt like the Dodgers were reeling their late and were kind of on their heels. I think that, you know, unfortunately, again, not to blame anybody, but the Aronado double play in the 8th, that truly felt like when this game was over. And it really didn't feel much like what happened there in the night. And it sucks because we've seen that happen entirely too many times with this team where they do have runners in scoring position. And they aren't able to deliver.
Starting point is 00:16:27 And more than not just not being able to deliver, they, you know, hit into the double play that doesn't give them the extra out. Diamondbacks tonight, two for 12 with runners in scoring position. Do I have to scream again about runners in scoring position? Because, my God, it's not that they did not have opportunity. but two for 12, that's why you lose. That's how you lose in a one run ball game. Two for 12, right?
Starting point is 00:16:52 So anyway, disappointment all the way around, but still, like I said earlier, if you want to add a little silver lining to this loss, you still got to appreciate the way the boys fought tonight. And you got to feel like once again, they were one big hit away from not only overcoming the deficit, but, you know, winning this ball game. So hopefully tomorrow,
Starting point is 00:17:16 will, you know, they'll find a way because they are going to face Shohei Otani on the mound tomorrow. And it is going to be no easy feat by any stretch of the imagination. So, again, this one, this one, it's probably the one in the series that they should have won. So maybe it'll be all reversed. Maybe they'll win all the ones they shouldn't have and they'll maybe lose just the one that they shouldn't have. Opportunity to balloon Otani's ERA tomorrow. Hell yeah. He's got a point like 8-9 or something like that.
Starting point is 00:17:46 Apparently, he's going to actually DH tomorrow, too. He has for the last two or three starts. But before that, he had been sitting to, I don't know, load manage or something. But he's back to doing both. He hit a home run, I think, in his last start. Let's hope it goes terribly wrong for him. Let's hope it goes terribly wrong for him. But anyway, we're going to talk about Michael Soroka and the bullpen on the other side of this break.

Find all of your options to manage your build APS.com slash let's talk. Oh, and it wasn't a great night for Michael Soroka for sure. He had a rough first two innings to start this game. Overall, though, not a terrible outing, just a rough start
Starting point is 00:21:10 that made you believe that maybe he wasn't going to be able to last too long tonight against the Dodgers. He got knocked down. He got punched in the mouth. But I got to give it to him. Soroka did an excellent job after giving up those four early runs of staying in this game, being competitive and giving the Diamondbacks at least a chance to win by eating up some innings and not requiring them to turn to their bullpen as early as they might have needed to with an outing that typically starts like this.
Starting point is 00:21:42 And the first he gave up a lead-off double to that Cretan Shoheyotani and a one-out home run to Freddie Freeman to give the Dodgers a two-nothing lead. He walked Mookie Betts, but then he got Kyle Tucker to strike out and Max Muncie to ground out to get out the inning. And look, I know a lot of things are going the Dodgers way and as Damon will attest to,
Starting point is 00:22:03 they continue to go their way. And if they don't go their way, the Dodgers will whine and cry, and find a way to change the rules or circumvent the rules. Oh, we had a third disengagement and that's an automatic base here.
Starting point is 00:22:18 Right. That's how it works. My pitchcom wasn't working, actually. No, you're, that has nothing to do with a third engagement. You said that 15 seconds after we made the call. So it doesn't really seem like that's what. No, no, no, no, that's what happened.
Starting point is 00:22:31 I promise. And Major League Baseball wants to believe them so bad. I just needed to let him go off about that. But one thing that's, definitely not working out for them is Kyle Tucker and you love to see it to be honest. The Dodgers. You really do. I mean, and that's honestly, Derek, I'll be, I'll be real that I was thinking about this during
Starting point is 00:22:49 the game as well. That's another example of exactly what we're talking about where they can just overcome that much money that they spent on Kyle Tucker and still be whatever. 100% yes. But I was saying more of they're trying to circumvent the rules yet again. They see the salary cap is potentially on its way. So they go, cool. What if we just overpaid the shit out of Kyle Tucker who's worth nothing close to 60 million A.AV?
Starting point is 00:23:16 But we're going to pay it to him because we know that the salary cap is coming. And he's the top free agent on the market this year when there's no salary cap. And they can't take away our players that we already have. So they go and they overpay the hell out of him. And it's just it's just to me, he represents everything that is just so wrong about the slimy gross Dodgers. I hope Dodgers fans are in here tonight and they're hearing me say that. Also, I hope Maria is doing well.
Starting point is 00:23:41 Oh, we miss you, Maria. Kyle Tucker currently hitting 235 with a 715 OPS. For those of you keeping score at home, he has four home runs this season, 27 RBI. They paid 60 million per year for Lord is Coriel. They're paying more money for him
Starting point is 00:23:59 than I think nine teams are paying their entire payroll if you are including his salary and the penalties that they have to pay for Kyle Tucker. Disgusting. They literally are paying $60 million per year for a normal Lordus Guerrille season. All right. So again, he gets out of the first inning there by getting the strike out of Tucker and Max Muncie to ground out. But then the second inning for Soroka, it was immediately more of the same, Damon. It seemed like he was trying to induce soft contact.
Starting point is 00:24:30 If you go back to the hit that he gave up in this inning to show Hayotani, the two-run triple. Derek, we're always trying to induce soft contact as pitchers. So it's not really anything that's special. That's my Michael Sorokin. I know. I know. Yeah, no, totally because I'm an idiot. But, uh, and I have an idiot because his ground ball percentage, like I said, is the low or
Starting point is 00:24:49 lowest ground ball percentage he's ever had in his, it is there. Do you think people are, there's some allegations and I'm not saying that I'm the one that said it. It's people are rumors are floating. that you ducked the post game pressers tonight, the postgame sound, because you didn't want to talk to Michael Soroka because of how bad he alphaed you last time. No comment.
Starting point is 00:25:12 No comment. Can we move on? Anyway, Soroka, again, the first pitch to Otani was an 86 mile per hour changeup, like Dead Center. And Otani crushed it, ripped a big old triple. And again, with one out of D. given up a pair of singles to Dalton Rushing,
Starting point is 00:25:32 who I'm just learning to hate so much in this series, Damon. Even the rest of baseball. His name, Dalton Rushing, sounds like that of an 80s movie villain. He looks like one too. Yeah, like one of those movies where like the kids got to save, you know, the ski resort. And Dalton Rushing's going to come in and close it down and turn it into his own private, you know, mansion or something. But anyway, yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:57 Sick of that guy. Alex Friedland also. Jay is on the same track. Like Dalton, he says Dalton Rushman's the worst person in baseball. I completely agree, CJ. He's been on the, he's only been in the league for what,
Starting point is 00:26:09 you know, 50 games or so, but he has found a way to ingrain himself into the minds and hatred of baseball fans everywhere. And I think that a lot of it has to do with the franchise that he plays for.
Starting point is 00:26:20 No one is trying to be your fan when you're on the Dodgers. Yeah. But when you go out of your way to like, you know, like, do, like do this.
Starting point is 00:26:29 that to guys who are injured on the field that you just injured and you know like you're having all these issues like it's it gets tough to defend at a certain point he also has an 870 OPS and I hate him for that too yeah I mean he also doesn't play all that often but you know he's he's a back end platoon catcher which is you know that's a valuable thing to have don't get me wrong I wish we had that as well but and that's very dodgers of them but it's not like he's playing all the time will Smith is um again gives up the two run triple to Oatani Big old fat change up. 4-0 at the time.
Starting point is 00:27:03 Dodgers up. He would somehow prevent Otani from scoring from third with one out by getting Pahas and Freeman to both kind of pop out, you know, like harmlessly. And it felt like that was like a tipping point almost for him, giving up that triple to Otani. It felt like Soroka really battled back to ensure that he didn't allow Atani to score. And then he just settled in nicely after that point. He got two strikeouts in the third inning.
Starting point is 00:27:29 and then he wouldn't allow another base runner until he gave up a bloop single to Freddie Freeman in the fifth. So overall, just not a terrible outing here from Soroka, just a terrible, you know, start to his outing, right? But you got to give him a lot of credit for digging in and, you know, doing the thing. He's forcing fastball usage, 34%. He had a good mix of pitches tonight. He's forcing maxed out at 95.1 mile per hour, averaged at 93.8. So the velocity was fine tonight. he did get four whips on the fastball the slurb also used frequently in that beautiful periwinkle color that i love that they use for the slurve on the pitch chart it just makes it feel special it really does it really does a knuckle ball color yeah oh it's like is it purple or is it blue it's it's pretty the purple or blue it should be like the most special of special colors yeah like a little rainbow to it or something yeah something crazy oh and ephist pitch should be like gray uh but anyway slurv love this uh again three three
Starting point is 00:28:28 the slurve plenty, did what it's supposed to do. You can only see, I don't know, maybe about six or seven landed in the zone. He also got some whiffs on that. He used it 29% of his outing and got five whiffs on it. So he got the most whiffs on that slurve. When those two pitches are working really well together, then things are going Syroca's way. Tonight, the change up also complimented that he used the change up 19%, cutter 11%, sinker 7%. He got one. with all of those overall. But again, probably for Soroka, too many uncompetitive fastballs tonight thrown high that were just easy to, you know, lay off of. However, you know, again, he did a good job of not walking a ton of guys and limiting, you know, base runners. It's just
Starting point is 00:29:17 unfortunate that he got himself into that, that early trouble that he did. He did strikeout six. So again, that's that's circle K strikeout meter worthy. For sure. sure so let's fire that boy up but uh circle k uh love you circle k so much saroka damon can we can we can we fire up the circle k strikeout meter uh it's it's it's you know what it's been around since nineteen ninety eight so give it really has been around a long time like you sometimes you got to smack it on the side to get it working but uh syroca goes six innings tonight gives up four hits four earned runs just one walk and six strikeout so uh again overall not not a great night not a quality start from Soroka, but like I said, you got to respect the way that he dug in and still
Starting point is 00:30:03 gave this team six innings. Meanwhile, he gets replaced by Jonathan Loisigga. One thing I want to say is, if I ever tweet out that a pitcher is entering the game, you can't dunk on us for doing that. Like, people were like, this tweet didn't age well, Candice. I'm talking specifically about you. But guess what? There was nothing to age well about it, unless he actually didn't come into the game, which unfortunately for the Diamondbacks and us as fans, he did because he was not good tonight. He came into the game and he gave up a leadoff double to that movie villain Dalton Rushing who moved to third on a freelance sackfly and then scored on an Andy Pahas sackfly to make it at the time five to two. And again, if he could have limited it to just that damage, that would have been fine.
Starting point is 00:30:52 But then he gives up a single to Freddie Freeman to put runners on the corners. then mooky bets gets an rbi single to make it six to two uh just enough just enough to put it out of the reach of the arizona diamondbacks in their offense so uh sucks to see loisiga one inning pitch three hits two earn runs two walks one strike out big question on a lot of people's minds is why johnny lasagna why did we go to johnny lasagna why did all of a sudden is it you used to be too much a lot of cheese and now it's not feeling like enough it was a lot of heat a lot of cheese did we use up too much of our cheese but i will agree that you know you have a left-handed pitcher and brandon garcia there why not go to him probably due to usage unfortunately brandon
Starting point is 00:31:45 garcia came into yesterday's game he also pitched on sunday against the seattle mariners uh i did not obviously have a chance to talk to to troy tonight but i have a really good feeling that that is probably the reason he is giving as to why they did not go to Brandon Garcia, probably did not want him to see a third outing in three days. I guess. I don't know. I feel like especially a young reliever like this that has, I'm not going to say we'll have his innings reduced. Maybe we have two lefties in the pen when AJ Puck returns, right? But there is a good chance. His workload is going to lighten up when AJ Puck, who is pitching tonight in Reno for the Aces, you know, I...
Starting point is 00:32:37 Which is just special, by the way, can I say? I know. Again, these are the reasons why we got to just kind of stay above 500, get some wins in here, but not really panic if the Diamondbacks aren't, you know, don't go 11 and 2 over their next 13 game stretch, right? I need AJ Puck because, you know, AJ Puck is like our quintessential. Like you just put the craziest, scariest looking guy you can find on the mound. And every team needs the most intimidating dude out of the pen that you can find. And that's our version of it, right? Just some six foot seven dude who doesn't, who has a beard but no mustache.
Starting point is 00:33:15 And you're like, oh my God. I'm telling you. He looks like, he's horrified. He is straight up the neighbor from the burbs, the Tom Hanks classic film. he is coming over and we don't know if he killed and put somebody in a trash can or if he's just a nice guy. Don't know, but we're intimidated and we're scared by it. No doubt, no doubt. We've talked about this though as well, Derek, and I think that you've agreed with me on this in the past before.
Starting point is 00:33:36 I think the best way of deploying AJ Puck, though, is in a way where you can use him in your highest leverage spots. Not necessarily your biggest lefty on lefty matchups. You know what I mean where not necessarily saying as a closer, but like, no, no, there are times where you know, that you know you're going to get a little bit better order through and and I think being able to utilize him in a way where he's a wild card is the best way that you can use a j puck because he's the best reliever pound for pound that we have and and if you have brandon garcia that opens up what you can do with with a guy like a j puck a little bit more where he is more versatile in different spots not saying you won't use him when you get you know an otani betts freeman type of of order
Starting point is 00:34:22 or something or other that's similar to that. But I do think that it almost like having the two lefties is a big thing. And I think a lot of teams have multiple lefties on their team. We're just we're just predisposed to having zero lefties because we did the unthinkable this season. And that's starting an entire year with not a single left-handed pitcher on the team outside of Eduardo Rodriguez, of course, Randy Johnson himself. But yeah. Sean asked, Leweisga has to be the odd man out when puck is back. right i don't see them using thoughts last option i i really i honestly don't know i i really don't know
Starting point is 00:34:59 what they're going to come i mean first world problems it they are they are but you know if you start cutting if you start looking at it and just going probably in the same way that sean is putting it together you're not getting rid of ginkle he's a dude and a stud he was awesome again tonight you're not getting rid of paul seawald you're not getting rid of taylor clark he's been awesome won modillo's been incredible. His stuff is amazing. Brandon Garcia, 0.82 ERA, right? So it really comes down to
Starting point is 00:35:30 Ryan Thompson, who's actually still having a very good season, Brandon Fought, or Jonathan LeWisaga. Of these guys, Brandon Fought is absolutely part of this franchise's future, and they don't intend on probably using his final option
Starting point is 00:35:45 now at this point. But you also probably aren't parting ways with Ryan Thompson either. Loisika was a, you know, at the beginning of the season, he was very much a guy that was a non-raster invitee and kind of a, you know, late addition to this team. He hasn't been lights out. He lost that game against the Mariners and extra innings. He, you know, he, again, his runs allowed tonight were the big reason why they didn't, you know, hold this team tonight. And again, we've been spoiled. We've absolutely been spoiled by this bullpen, Damon, to think that here we are saying, like, Two runs is a disaster and we want this bum off our team, right? I mean,
Starting point is 00:36:26 it's a far cry from where we were last season. There's no question about it. The last season we've been like, not a terrible game from your bullpen tonight. You just have to take advantage of these nights when they're only going to give up two runs inside of four innings. And now we're sitting up here and we're like cut them, get rid of them.
Starting point is 00:36:44 Jonathan Loisaga, who has been really good this season overall after two bad performances in a row. It's it's it's time to go but three point one 80 a a like I said it's I mean that's and that's good. It's just this is this is the place that we're at right now, which is that we have a fairly strong and well put together bullpen, which that's why I took yesterday's show post game show to to literally just say hats off to Mike Hazen who I think takes a lot of arrows for for you know, his lack of bullpen building and rightfully so. But you know, in a similar circumstance, we have to then give him the praise. So, I mean, it's a, it really is, you know, being put together and it's a, it's a solid bullpen, but it does feel like it's Johnny Lausagna. Yeah. They would make way if you're having to pick a guy there. 3.1 ADRA.
Starting point is 00:37:31 Maybe they can trade him. Maybe Brandon Fott is the move. Maybe Brandon Fought just time to option him and get him stretch back out as a starter or whatever. I don't know. I don't know what you're doing with Brandon Fought. I don't even think you can stretch him back out. I think that he would be at risk of injury at that point for sure, right? And then, yeah, Mighty Schumann's right.
Starting point is 00:37:50 There's so much more. There's so many more roster crunch issues. Corbyn Burns's return. What they're going to do in the outfield when Gurriel Jr. comes back. Just a lot of questions. I mean, I'd be open to trading either one of those guys. I just don't really know who's going to take them or what they're going to give you.
Starting point is 00:38:05 Slash what are they giving you? Like Lord is. Still better than cutting them. Still better than just dumping them and DFAing them. For sure. And if you do that, then their trade value plummets even more. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:38:14 I don't think you're getting really anything for Lordus. The best you could hope for would be just a strict salary dump. because he's owed that $5 million next year, even if you decline his option. So I think that because of that, that really kind of dictates or hurts your chances of maybe getting anything in return. Gowan, you could maybe get something low level for.
Starting point is 00:38:35 But again, like we talked about with Gowan, he's got to be that weird mix of going to a team that is trying to win still because he's on a one year contract the rest of this season. But also who's trying to win and has a rotation spot? that's open for a pitcher who's really not been that great like Zach Allen this year. The athletics. I guess it's the athletics.
Starting point is 00:38:58 I'm telling you. They're trying to win. Or should the Astros like try to make a push because their division is somewhat wide open, right? We're both in the same division right now, David. We're both thinking the same thing. Anybody but the angels can win that division. The Rangers, we go to fleece him again and we sign back Zach Allen this off season. I love that.
Starting point is 00:39:16 I love that. But still ginkle and. Morillo, once again, outstanding for this team. And inning pitched each. Morio did give up a hit, but he also got two strikeouts. Gingle, outrageously good lately. One strikeout for him. He lowers his ERA to 2.96.
Starting point is 00:39:34 Juan Morillo's ERA, 2.52. Just incredible still, what they're getting out of it. It's just a shame that Loisaga had to falter tonight because you really truly feel like if this bullpen goes out there and gives you zeros like they did last night, then we're talking about a win instead of a loss. But I got a super chat here from the Argyrispides. I mean, that was about as good as I possibly could have gone with that right there. That was impressive, Derek.
Starting point is 00:40:02 Thank you. Thank you. And thank you for the super chat. The super chat says, what do we do when Lawler, Troy, and Waldier are all healthy? I don't know and I hate it. I don't know and I hate it. I really don't. I mean, listen, I think we talk about this all the time.
Starting point is 00:40:16 Like, does Troy stay the backup roaming outfielder until Lawler? return or until Troy becomes Tim Tawa, which is to say that he plays wherever he is needed in any given day. Sure, but then isn't going to get him into the Tomb Taua territory
Starting point is 00:40:30 of not playing regularly and sitting for five straight days without a little bit. I think it hurts, well, Jose Fernandez maybe a little bit more. Yeah. Because I think you could see Tommy Troy
Starting point is 00:40:41 maybe getting some infield reps, but he's not going to play third. And Jose Fernandez is primarily going to play first and third. That's fair. And shortstop when Jerry needs an off day like today, I guess. But like, yeah, no, I guess that's a fair. But, but I do think I'll tomorrow could play third and he could play second if
Starting point is 00:40:57 Cattell needed an off day or something. I think Tommy Troy's best, you know, trait and best chance of finding a spot here is, is his versatility. Um, but I think you probably ride with Waldy, Loller, Corby. And you, maybe you send Tommy Troy down if you have to send one of those guys down. But I, I wouldn't mind having them all on the roster at the same time. I mean, maybe it becomes a at AB crunch and then you, you figure it out later, in my opinion. David, my 100% full computer battery is now at zero percent because apparently I left.
Starting point is 00:41:31 And as you know, you can't do this, an Adobe program up in my computer without shutting it down. Would you like me to go off screen here and maybe do some spy work and get you plugged in? If that's possible, that would be absolutely great. But can we take a quick break? And on the other side of this break, we're going to talk about the numbers, maybe once we have functioning computer back. In the meantime, I'm going to do my best to do these ad reads. So, of course, don't you guys go anywhere? This one's going to be fun.
Starting point is 00:41:59 You're watching the PHNX Diamondback show. Well, tonight is definitely a night for pure edibles because this one hurts. So might want a little bit of a mood elevator from our friends of pure edibles. Maybe just something that will make you forget about tonight and help you get some sleep, regardless of what you're looking for. Pure Edibles has you covered. They are full-fledged candy company offering you a wide variety of candies. Yes, they do have gummies, but they also have their version of Starbursts that they call kicks, as well as some delicious chews, which are soft candies like carmels,
Starting point is 00:42:35 as well as hard candies and a variety of delicious flavors. Those flavors are clearly listed on each tin, along with the delicious effects that you're going to get from each tin. And it appears there's some sort of, I don't know, perhaps lighting. issue or plug plug issue yeah for sure but of course we'll see you know what bring it over here
Starting point is 00:43:01 I'll figure it out but see this is what pure edibles is for times like this where things aren't going your way but you know what we're still going to get it done right and that's what pure edibles is here to help us out with they also have their collaboration with mother road brewing company one of the finest breweries in all of Arizona
Starting point is 00:43:17 where these two fine companies come together to bring you the tower station IPA all in one. Yes, the delicious IPA, the Arizona staple, thank you, sir, appreciate that, that we all know and love, now is available in a THC all in one device.
Starting point is 00:43:32 So you can get that and take that everywhere you go. Go find yourself some pure edibles products from one of over 150 dispensaries across Arizona, now including True Leaf. And let me tell you, it's always fun over at the Arizona lottery, but right now they are celebrating the 100th anniversary of the iconic Route 66.
Starting point is 00:43:54 And let me tell you, as a dad, I'll say at least one time, go take a ride on Route 66. It's right here in our state of Arizona. It's like I said, an iconic road. And it will once again reiterate to you how great it is to have freeways with five lanes of traffic. But they want to get you going where you need to go fast with the new Route 66 100th anniversary scratchers. there are over $13.5 million in prizes. There are over $4 million in $100 prizes. So a lot of chances for you to go out there and get your money.
Starting point is 00:44:32 Get some money for those $10 scratchers, right? Chance to win 10 times your prize amount. So do not miss out on the Route 66 100th anniversary scratchers now available from Arizona Lottery. Must be 21 or over to play. And of course, Arizona Lottery, Love the play. Damon, we got ourselves some numbers from tonight's game that will at least reveal a little bit why the Diamondbacks didn't win and also reveal how much they were actually in this game. Let's take a look at the numbers from tonight's loss.
Starting point is 00:45:07 Diamondbacks lose this one by a score of six to five extra base hits. D-backs only had two to the Dodgers four. Again, that's part of the reason why they lost tonight. but also runners in scoring position. The Dodgers were three for eight, the Diamondbacks were two for 12. Another night where, quite frankly, hitting below 200
Starting point is 00:45:29 with 10 or more opportunities with runners in scoring position is unacceptable. Unacceptable. Oh, you fad me. Do it one more time. That feels better. That's how it feels seeing two for 12.
Starting point is 00:45:46 It really does suck. and again, it really does feel like when you analyze how this team collectively as a whole goes cold, it is because they're just trying to do too much. Does any team feed off like each other's energy more than the Diamondbacks? I don't know. That's a great question because I feel like that's been something that's been happening for years. When they go cold, they all go cold. It's one thing to lose one to nothing to Paul Skeen's.
Starting point is 00:46:15 You know what happened that day. Yeah. That's not, that's not like an us problem. That's a Paul Skeen's problem. And Paul Skeens is indeed a problem. This is more about, you know, the Diamondbacks pressing and just trying too much, trying to do too much when they're up there with those runners in scoring position, those ducks on the pond, right?
Starting point is 00:46:35 There are other stats from tonight's game, their other numbers from tonight's game, you know, shows you why they were in this game. They had a harder, hard hit percentage or higher hard hit percentage than the Dodgers, 35.3 to the Dodgers 33.3. Their expected batting average was 322 to the Dodgers 287. So they had plenty of chances, plenty of balls hit. There were a lot of good defensive plays made by the Dodgers tonight, too. You got to give them that. There were a lot of plays that made me just hang my head down. Kattel got robbed on one. I believe Nolan Aronado totally got robbed. But overall here, again, the expected numbers showed that the Diamondbacks probably. should have won this game. The ABS challenges, though, this made me happy. This satisfied me.
Starting point is 00:47:22 Diamondbacks going four for five, using the hell out of those challenges tonight. And they were important. It felt like everyone was crucial. Jose Fernandez, I think, was the only one that lost his challenge. And that was an egregious challenge on his part as well. But yeah, I mean, good job by the Diamondbacks tonight at the very, very least. They weren't exactly the craziest of challenges at times, though. the ump was missing by like a foot outside the zone. No, you're absolutely right. They had to use their challenges tonight, Damon, because again, another thing that we really haven't talked about at all in this game, Stu Sherwider was having himself a night behind home plate. If a ball was low in the zone or outside of the zone low, Stu was missing it. Stu was going to miss it.
Starting point is 00:48:08 If it was in the zone, he was going to miss it outside of the zone. Stu needed like the full glasses and he only had like bifocals on that just had the little part that helps you see but then there was like a part underneath that that was allowing him to miss the strike zone it was fairly egregious and again it's kind of i do think that on a night like this you kind of appreciate the other umpires that have called games throughout this season this whole abs challenge system situation has made this relationship between us and the umpires far more amicable far more peaceful it's been it's It's actually felt like kind of nice, kind of nice. A lot of handshaking and smiling instead of yelling at and screaming at and Tori telling people to use their eyes, right?
Starting point is 00:48:54 But tonight that's something Stu definitely was not using. He was not using his eyes. So you're right. The Diamondbacks had to challenge plenty of balls that were very obviously, you know, the opposite of what was being called. But again, Johnny Walker, my buddy from kindergarten. Baseball is the only sport that robots need to be refs, at least when you're talking about balls and strikes being called. Which again, don't even get me started on the fact that we have this whole system in place and we once again turn it into a Mario Party style mini game instead of just having the umpires get a little buzz in their ear when things are strikes and not a buzz when they're not a strike. But what do I know?
Starting point is 00:49:37 I'm just a man that wanted to simplify the game and get every call right. Major League Baseball is the one that wants Mario Party little mini games in the middle of a game. Got another super chat from the name Argus Spides. I don't know. I'm going to mess it up every time. It says, what does the trade deadline look for us? Which is a great question. Honestly, it looks like it's going to be fruitful.
Starting point is 00:50:01 I think that if nothing more, this team has proven that they can be competitive and they can win. There are these tests throughout the year. As much as we call them tests, we knew that the series with, the Mariners was a test and they failed that test unfortunately so far with the Dodgers they looked good in game one tonight still looked pretty good right so again something like this makes you feel like the addition of you know that power bat that they're missing is is going to be very important but it does feel like as we get closer and closer to the trade deadline as damon and i discussed the other day that their needs are are becoming less you're seeing you're seeing a lot of guys that can handle the
Starting point is 00:50:40 positions and do the things you just feel like like we're missing specifically the power, even though we've hit a lot of home runs over the last two days. Still, the Diamondbacks just don't have that big power cleanup hitter, that guy that's just a threat in the middle of your lineup. And, you know, more importantly, that production out of either a first base or DH, as Damon has been screaming about since the end of last season, he knew that this year we were going to have like the worst OPS for first base and DH. And, you know, Il-Damar Vargas proved him wrong a little bit as he has done all year long. But for the most part, he was absolutely right.
Starting point is 00:51:17 And the DH spot is a problem for this team, considering that is just a free batter that could be a dude that has a gut. We could have a rowdy to Les type out there. Well, I don't know about that. I just want to, I'm just saying we can have a big old boy out there, just smashing over. I was all for the big old boy. And then you maybe got a little bit too big, a little bit too big for my liking. Any Mike Trout?
Starting point is 00:51:39 Yeah, that's a point with big old biceps in forearms like Mike Trout. No, I mean, I think that there's absolutely, absolutely a room for a big power home run bat. And then when you talk about pitching, I think you're never going to turn your nose up at pitching upgrades if they come available to you. Sure. Sure. Yes, there's a log jam, obviously, as we're talking about with the bullpen. And as we've been talking about for a while with when Corbin Burns comes back, what you do with your starting rotation. but if there's some
Starting point is 00:52:10 perceivable way to add a scoble to the mix and you think that you can sign him long term, like I think you definitely feel it out and test the waters on a situation like that, right? Got to do everything we can to keep them away from the Dodgers.
Starting point is 00:52:26 I mean, I've already said I'm willing to overpay to keep them away from the Dodgers. I don't see how if there's a salary cap implemented, they can even get in on that. Damon, you fool. There will never be a salary cap. There will never be a salary cap. Corbyn, Corbyn Carol won't allow a salary cap to happen.
Starting point is 00:52:42 He's our union rep. Player union representative. They probably won't. It's never happened. There probably won't be a salary cap. And because the Dodgers are like, what? No. And then they're like, oh, oh, you guys didn't.
Starting point is 00:52:53 Oh, you guys didn't want it. That's on us. We're sorry about that. Scrap it. Scrap that whole idea. We just abuse GoFund me, Damon. That's the key. We get all of the Diamondbacks fans, all, there's dozens of us.
Starting point is 00:53:04 Derek, we have Daddy Walmart. That's true. I don't know how many. everybody go shop at walmart and give them all your money so that daddy walmart has more money to share with us and this team Terrick Scuba money. Yeah, we need Terrick Scoobo money. So stop buying the great value stuff and buy the full price stuff. I mean, I think that like CJ Warner puts a good name here.
Starting point is 00:53:24 Like we keep talking about Christian Walker. Christian Walker. I see what I was going to say. We keep talking about Christian Walker. Does that make sense to bring him back? Could the Astros potentially cover a little bit of that salary, much like the Cardinals did with Aronado, where you then are working on a discount to get back a guy that you think maybe,
Starting point is 00:53:43 you know, has some value still? So I don't know. I mean, I'm interested in a power bat for sure. And then I think that you have a lot of really interesting young players that deserve opportunities for the most part at almost all those positions outside of like a DH, right? Where I don't know. I'm not exactly looking for a bunch of upgrades left and right at second and short and third and catcher. And maybe a backup catcher, maybe a platoon catcher who's a little bit better hitter than ADC has been this year for Gabby, potentially. that's something that you could also work in on.
Starting point is 00:54:16 I'll have James McCann back and he'll also be available for the bullpen. I do forget about James McCann in his pitching versatility. Yeah, exactly. Johnny Walker, thank you for your super chat. He says, here's how I see it if we are buyers at the deadline. Jake Berger, Eugenio, Christian Walker, all going to depend on how the next two months go. But a reunion with Walker would be poetic. I would love that.
Starting point is 00:54:40 I would love that. We would all love that. Yordon Alvarez. Yordon Alvarez. I think I'm shooting maybe a lit. Yeah, a little too high. Just a little bit. But that's what I do.
Starting point is 00:54:50 Maybe if the Astros are completely out of it. Derek, wait, who are my realistic trade deadline? You know, targets for the Arizona Diamondbacks? Oh, you ask, it just so happens to be Terrick Scoobel and Yordaun Alvarez. I'm sorry, is that a little bit too pie in the sky for people? Maybe we were playing 3D chess by losing all three games to the Mariners so that they could take just such a commanding lead. Yeah, just such a big lead in that division that they have no choice but to trade us all
Starting point is 00:55:18 of their guys. But we're going to take a quick break. And on the other side of this break, we're going to see how Tyler Locklear is faring for the Reno Aces. Things have been pretty good for Mr. Locklear lately, as well as if our guy, AJ Puck, ever got into tonight's game. We're going to do all of that on the other side of this break. Don't you go anywhere you're watching the P.HNX Diamondback show?

Well, Damon, again, I know that we. have been talking a lot about our takeover of Chase Field that we're going to be
Starting point is 00:57:49 having on Thursday. That is officially sold out, but we do have other ways to come hang out with us, including, as we talked about earlier, can enjoy, join the entire PHNX crew for our World Cup watch parties presented by Buchanan's, Casa Amigos, Don Julio,
Starting point is 00:58:05 and Mikulob Ultra. We're doing those watch parties all over the valley, as I discussed, for every USA and Mexico match. Visit go phnx.com. slash events for more details and to RSVP. They're going to be electric, Derek. I already got one of my boys.
Starting point is 00:58:24 He's coming out to one of the Mexico watch parties. We're going to have a great ass time. Oh, yeah. No, we are. I can't wait. We are definitely going to have a great time. There are those dates up there for the people. Yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 00:58:33 Thank you, Damon. There are all of those dates. So you can see right there exactly when you can come join us. And more importantly, look, I know the World Cup is. is a little confusing. So here are specifically, here is your schedule. This is your team Mexico and team USA fans now. That's what you are.
Starting point is 00:58:54 Well, I mean, we just, I think we take a big assumption here that most people in Arizona are rooting for one of those two teams in particular. That's very true. So again, we're going to have a great time out there. Speaking of great times, today was 602 day, June 2nd, something that they've been doing here in Phoenix for a few years. Most importantly, the one thing I take away from this is that there are all sorts of places doing discounts and giving you things for like $6.2. That part I very much like, including getting my delicious Hawaiian food that I'm not going to give a free ad for for $6.2.
Starting point is 00:59:32 But more importantly, before today ends, which you have about another hour before today is over, the Diamondbacks have their three game series with the Los Angeles Angels at Chase Field where fans can purchase upper deck tickets. for $6.2. So go get those tickets now. Let's come out. Let's watch the Diamondbacks beat up on the Angels. As Candace says, that's a steal. Candice was also talking mad mess to us about our Jonathan, Johnny Lausannea tweet. And I still haven't gotten over that.
Starting point is 01:00:05 But another thing I'm not over is some updates from Reno, found out that Mitch Bratt, who is on the Diamondbacks 40-man roster. He was moved there. It's part of the Rule 5 draft situation. Last year, he is going on the seven-day IL after dealing with some continuous back pain following an awkward play a few weeks ago where he fell on his shoulder. We kind of talked about it when it happened. It's not expected to be a long stint. However, it does feel like this back issue might be developing into something more, considering that he's going on in a seven-day IL.
Starting point is 01:00:37 Should he be moved to a longer IL stint that could potentially free up a 40-man roster spot for these other roster crunch issues that the Diamondbacks have. That still doesn't satisfy their 26-man roster issue when it comes to having the guys on the major league roster. But one guy who we might find back on the roster soon is Tyler Locklear. He hit his second home run of the year tonight. It was a rocket 103.3.1 miles per hour to centerfield for a three-run blast. And overall, his numbers have kind of been on, you know, coming back up.
Starting point is 01:01:12 He's now hitting 282. with a 751 OPS. He was the DH tonight for the Reno Aces where they absolutely skunk the aviators by a score of 15 to 7. You love to see that. Gino Groover, of course, three for four tonight with an RBI, two walks.
Starting point is 01:01:31 Three for four with an RBI and two walks, hitting 327 now with 885 OPS. Also, old friend Tim Tawa went two for five tonight. He had a double, and yeah, had himself a good night. Gino Grewver also had himself a home run in this game. Some guys that we might see back here soon there in the lineup for the Reno Aces. But overall, again, more about the guys that are on this team, as you guys have been discussing,
Starting point is 01:02:01 and where they're going to go, who's going to stick around, and, you know, what's going to happen. CJ asked, does Grover get a chance soon or is the logjam too great? Unfortunately, man, I feel like it is a little too great. However, I will say that the D-backs haven't really shied away from calling up guys that we did not think we were going to see this season. As ready as we were for Tommy Troy, I mean, we had our doubts about seeing Brian Waldschmidt this year, right? So, again, the Diamondbacks have been very open to calling up these young players if they feel like they can help them when baseball games. And quite frankly, both Tommy Troy, Ryan Walshman, and even Jose Fernandez have helped this team when they're fair. share of baseball games already in their young MLB careers. However, I do think that we're getting
Starting point is 01:02:50 to a point where these, oh, man, I'm getting raptured. Am I getting raptured? Nope. Not this time. Never, you know, every time it happens, Damon, I think that now is the time that I'm finally going to get raptured and I just get left behind once again, don't I? Someday. One of these, one of these days, one of these days. But again, that's, you know, where we're at with this whole roster situation. But Johnny Walker says this podcast listens to Gambo too much. I would counter that I never listen to Gambo
Starting point is 01:03:25 unless I'm talking to him in the press box. Then I very much listen to him and I take his advice. But when it comes to other things, no, no, we just know that this team has a lot of offensive plays. players right now that aren't producing. And again, our time allowing them to hurt our baseball teams, we have much less patience than the organization itself, right? So never forget that the franchise is always going to believe more in these guys than
Starting point is 01:03:55 sometimes fans do. They're always going to trust that with some time, they'll be able to turn things around. But again, you know, it very much feels like some of the changes they've made were you know, we're needed, especially when it came to Alec Thomas, unfortunately.
Starting point is 01:04:13 No doubt, no doubt. Got one more super chat here. Our, our guy, this, you're testing me that this one is.
Starting point is 01:04:20 I mean, you've done it worse every time. Yeah, it's slowly getting, yeah, that's what I'm saying. As the night goes on,
Starting point is 01:04:26 I'm just going to be like, but, but eventually, but, thank you for your super chat. Says, what does our rotation next year look like?
Starting point is 01:04:34 No clue. No, honestly, no clue. Corbyn Burns has that option, right? Corbyn Burns has the option. Merrill Kelly will be back. Ryan Nelson will be here.
Starting point is 01:04:45 Eduardo Rodriguez, final year of his contract. I believe. Right. And then I think, I guarantee you Michael Soroka is going to become too expensive after the way he's pitched this year. Brandon Fott will be on the team still. Fought, probably, probably in the rotation.
Starting point is 01:04:59 I imagine that this team, once all is settled with the new CBA and everything, I imagine they go out and add at least one starting pitcher, especially if, for some reason, Corbyn Burns decides to opt out. Yeah, Erod has a mutual option in 28, which you would assume just won't be picked up at his age 35 seasons. But as far as Corbyn Burns goes, he hasn't had enough time to really show his value once again.
Starting point is 01:05:25 So I feel like keeping that last year with the Diamondbacks is going to be, you know, probably advantageous for him. Well, no, his opt-in, Derek, is not just for a year. if he opts in he's locked in with the debacks oh for how long uh it's it's a few years here so like this is a big deal whether or not corbin burns it's going to be kind of the talk of our offseason at a certain point so there's that opt out after this season before 2027 but if he opts in it's four years 96 million dollars remaining on the deal so he's essentially deciding whether he wants to opt in to that long-term contract with the diamondbacks or whether he wants to go back to
Starting point is 01:06:06 the free agent market and test the waters again. Or maybe he wants the Diamondbacks to re-sign him, but he wants five or six years instead of four and he thinks he can get it. So he's going to do it. It's going to be interesting. It will be interesting. It will be the talk of our offseason for sure. But we thank you guys so much for being here tonight.
Starting point is 01:06:24 We will be back with another post game show tomorrow. I don't know if he'll be 15 minutes after the final out or an hour and a half. Who knows? We'll see. Hopefully they win and it's an hour and a half after the final out. So make sure to join us then. Until then, you can follow us on social media. I am at K-U-K-N-D-N-D-A-W-G
Starting point is 01:06:42 at the end, and we're all Damon's dogs. Bark, bark, bark. Except for Johnny Walker, I think. Oh, what happened? He sends in a super chat just to say we need a robot for Damon. Absolutely not. Absolutely not. No, no robot could ever replace Damon's fighting sphere.
Starting point is 01:06:58 That's okay. I don't want him to be a part of these dogs. No, no place. Nobody can be. But I'll tell you, our show is at PHNX underscore D-Back. But as always, all Rosalie to at PHNX underscore sports on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. We thank you guys so much for your time tonight. Appreciate you so much.
Starting point is 01:07:15 We'll see you back here tomorrow for another postgame show. Until then, behave yourself, Johnny Walker, Troublemaker. And remember, kids, baseball is fun. But it's so much more fun when you actually finish the comeback and don't come up one run short.
