We made up ground in the NL Wildcard race, and we are celebrating about it. We're talking about all of this right now. Don't you go anywhere. and they keep that tragic number at two, thanks to both the Phillies and the Cubs, losing their baseball games tonight. The Diamondbacks beat the Rockies by a score of five to three. They improved 84 and 74, and they are once again 10 games above 500. Noah, if you wouldn't mind, we got our Mount 500, Heraldo Perdomo.

We need to send him up the mountain. Let's go. We're still alive, folks. We're still alive. You can't kill us. We are the comeback kids. And even if that means coming back from being down in the wildcard race, perhaps the Diamondbacks have one more comeback in them.

They still need to pull off the wind tomorrow to complete the S word against the Colorado Rocky, something that they don't do very often, especially in 2026. But should they do that, they will. be at least in a position to go into the series with the Padres that starts on Friday with some chance to make the playoffs. They can't control everything when it comes to this race, but they can control their own destiny. And tonight, this win at least move them one step closer to the Phillies and the Cubs on a very important night. We know how big that loss was to the Marlins when they could made up ground on that day on every team in the wildcard race.

We have yet to see what the Padres do against the Dodgers tonight, but hey, you just never know. You just never know. And as it stands right now, we're still alive. And they did that tonight by once again putting up another crooked number in the first inning. Again, something this team does not do very often. They gave Merrill Kelly some run support right out of the gate.

And Kelly had himself a solid outing, albeit not as long as. that one time he got a complete game against the Rockies, but he did give the Diamondbacks some length, and he did at least minimize the damage and keep this score low as far as the Rockies offense. But the Diamondbacks offense did stall out once again, as they've been known to, unlike last night where they kind of kept their foot on the pedal,

they put up that big first inning, and at one point 13 batters sat down in a row, and the Diamondbacks offense looked dead in the water. But thanks to a late Tim Tawa bomb, Thanks to Jimothy Tawa, we got ourselves a little bit of breathing room, and the Diamondbacks end up holding on for a five to three win. And again, it was all about that first inning offense that really set the tone for tonight's game. For the second night in a row, the Diamondbacks actually scored multiple runs in the first inning.

And yes, a lot of it was thanks to some awful defense from Rocky's left fielder, Zach Veen. I would be kidding myself to not, you know, admit that. But with one out there in that inning, Catel Marte reached base on what should have been a routine fly ball caught by Bean. And instead he dropped it and he recorded a fielding area. He also had some trouble picking it up overall. And Marte was able to not only reach base, but he reached second base. Then Gabby brings Marte home with an RBI single

that put the Diamondbacks up by a score of 1 to nothing early in the first inning. Then after Perdomo struck out on a challenge by catcher Hunter Goodman, who is really, really good at challenging pitches. I don't know what else to say. We got our asses kicked tonight in one category, and it was ABS challenges, that's for sure. But again, Perdomo strikes out, thanks to the first of many challenges

by the Rockies on this night. Payman Smith singled, and then Nolan Aronado continues to terrorize his former team by delivering an RBI single that brought home Moreno and gave the Diamondbacks a two-to-nothing lead at the time. and Nolan Arnado has reached base now safely in 17 straight games. He's got 15 RBI. He's got three doubles, seven home runs and seven walks over that stretch. And his seven home runs that he's hit this month in September are tied for the fourth most in Major League Baseball.

Somehow, some way. I can't explain it. You can't either. Nolan Arnato might hit 30 home runs this year. Nolan Arnado might end up probably. I mean, there's a good chance. Almost a guarantee he is going to end up leading the Diamondbacks and home runs by the end of this season. You just can't say enough about how big of an acquisition he was for this team,

not only defensively, but who would have thought that he would have had essentially a renaissance here offensively and found Nolan Arnato from three years ago? It's been impressive. And again, the Diamondbacks are in a position to potentially. make the playoffs thanks to Nolan in part to Nolan another guy who obviously has contributed a bunch of this year was Corby and carroll who did so once again there in the first inning and he continues to prove that he's a very very fast individual carroll broke the game open there with a two-run triple that scored i believe it was payment smith and nolan aranato that increased the lead to four to nothing

and it was carroll's MLB leading 17th triple of the year so incredible day offensively especially for a team that continues to be at the bottom of Major League Baseball as far as scoring runs in the first inning. And instead, they swapped positions with that because then it was a drought offensively for this team. After the first, that four-run first inning, the Diamondbacks went down one, two, three to Rocky Starter Mason Adams for four consecutive innings in a row. 13-13 D-backs batters sat down in a row starting at the end of the first inning through the end of the fifth inning. not great. It stretches like that that give me my, you know, concerns. And of course, this happens

to every baseball team, but it was once again another night where we made someone like Mason Adams look like an all-star when, you know, no offense to the young man. He is definitely not that. He came into this game, I think, with a four or five ERA. It lowered it down at like 4.03 in this game. but again, it was another night where the Diamondbacks just couldn't really be patient at the plate, couldn't find a way to manufacture more runs, or just continue to keep, you know, that pressure on the Rockies and keep at least getting some base runners on or trying at their best to walk or find a way on base. But Gabri Moreno, he did break up the stretch with a lead-off single to start the sixth inning. He was caught stealing on a strike-em-out, throw-em-out double play that also saw Perdomo,

strike out at the dish. But again, it was great to see Gabby get on base once again as many times as he has this season. And Gabby's just been a stud. Cannot say enough about what Gabby Moreno has done. I mean, we didn't even bring it up on yesterday's podcast, but Gabby Moreno now has 143 hits, which are the most by a debacks catcher in a season passing by Miguel Montero, who had two consecutive seasons of getting 139 hits. in 2012 and 2011. That's why Miggie still to this day is one of the best catchers in DBAX history, but Gabriel Marino has cemented himself there as probably the best offensive catcher this team has ever had.

His 119 hits went in the lineup as a catcher are the sixth most by DBAX backstop behind Miguel Montero, doing it twice, Johnny Estrada, Miguel Montero doing it again in 2014, and Miguel Montero doing it in 100 in 2009. Like Miguel, McGee played way more games behind the plate, whereas Gabriel Moreno has been in the lineup quite a bit this year as their designated hitter. And his 310 batting average right now is the third in the third highest in the majors behind Yordon Alvarez and Louisa Rice. Who thought that we would ever see Gabby Moreno potentially competing for a batting title in the National League? Not me. I won't lie. I mean, I knew this year that he, his approach at the plate was something that we've never seen from him before.

It was much more of a Geraldo Perdomo approach from last year, just kind of taking what's given to you, getting a lot of singles, a lot of extra base hits, not really hitting for power or having a ton of extra base hits, but just delivering in these moments and also being a base runner that scored a lot of runs. And he has the chance to become the first catcher qualified

for the batting title to hit 300 plus since Buster Posey did it in 20. 2017. And then you're talking about some pretty elite company because you're talking about Posey doing it both in 17 and 15 and 14, as well as Yadir Malina and Wilson Ramos doing it in 2016. So again, Gabriel Moreno continues to be incredible. He was three for four tonight. He had an RBI, a run scored, and he has that 310 batting average. And for all the reasons I just mentioned, he is our Kingsnake for tonight's game. And probably our King Snake for tonight's game. And probably our King Snake, for this entire season. Again, I cannot say enough about how big he has been for this team, considering that the biggest problem has been the lack of production from their biggest stars, from Marte, from Carol, and for Perdomo. Gabriel Moreno not only stepped up, but he has been outproducing even what we would have expected to see

from any one of those guys, let alone, you know, let alone. alone what he's doing right now and chasing potentially history. So that's incredible. But Diamondback still was close game here, four to two, and their offense wasn't doing much. But then Talibunga, Jimothy Tawa comes through for this team. Tim Tawa hit a leadoff home run in the eighth inning to give the Dback some breathing room. That made it a five to two game at the time. It was Tawa's 11th home run of the year, 368 feet to left field and 105.9 miles per hour off the bat.

I again, I will always discuss every time he has a moment like this, how important Tim Tawa has been to this team, even though his numbers and his stats overall have come back down to Earth. He's not hitting a thousand like he was or had a thousand OPS like he did at one point. Tawa continues to be a guy that hits in the bottom of the lineup. seventh, eighth, and we'll give you this. And I, again, of all the guys that the Diamondbacks called up, I don't think many of us expected Tawa to be the one that would not only stick around,

but would be providing this team with an amazing diving catch in center field there to Rob. I think it was Zach Veen of a blue pit. That man had a bad night tonight. But Tawa, again, he flashed some leather there. He's been just really good overall. You know, it was a T.J. Rumfield, I believe is who he robbed. But no, no, it was Zach Bean. I'm sorry, it was Zach Bean to lead off the fifth inning.

And it was a great catch. Outstanding catch by Tawa there defensively. Also, the home run, incredible for him to provide that, again, that breathing room. This ends up being a five to three wins. So the Diamondbacks very much needed every run they could get. and again, they didn't get much tonight outside of that first inning. Overall, the top performers around this team are Corbyn Carroll, who went one for four with a triple and two RBI,

Pavin Smith, who was one for three with a run scored, and Nolan R and Otto, who was one for four with a run scored and an RBI. But that's it. I mean, again, the Diamondbacks were held to just eight hits tonight, and those hits were mostly scattered around this game outside of that first inning. Positive thing. is that they were able to give Merrill Kelly that early run support and score those first inning runs.

It didn't have to once again figure out a way to come back in yet another baseball game. But especially against a team like the Rockies and a young pitcher here like Mason Adams, you would have loved to see them. You know, again, keep their foot on the pedal offensively. Keep just grinding out in whatever way they can run so that they get themselves into a rhythm

and can hopefully close out this series with another win tomorrow going into that San Diego Padre series hot and ready to do battle with a team that they're going to need to essentially sweep in order to skeer their way into the postseason. I mean, it seems like a really tough task at this point, but if you break it down and try to just make it as small as possible, the Diamondbacks need to win, go four for four in their next four games, and they're in the postseason.

That's really all they can control. that's the only way they can look at it. Whatever else happens, happens, and if for some reason winning all six of their final games does not secure their position in the postseason, you just got to throw your hands up and say at the very least that they gave it their all.

Right now, that's what it feels like. And again, this was another important win. And every win between now and September 29th is crucial to this team, perhaps, making the postseason. It still seems unbelievable to me. It really does. But every single night that they win and every single night that these other teams feel that pressure and they lose,

we move one step closer somehow to this being a potential reality. But we're going to take a quick break on the other side of this break. for more than 70 years. Choose Sanderson Ford. Well, Merrill Kelly gave the Diamondbacks another solid start versus the Rockies, which he tends to do a lot. He kind of owns that team. In fact, he tossed his first career complete game against the Rockies back in a 9-1 victory

on May 15th of this year, where he went nine innings, giving up one unearned run, four hits, zero walks, and three strikeouts. He is one of four-d-dive-old. Diamondbacks in history to throw a complete game in Colorado against the Rockies. That also includes Omar Dahl, Armando Reynosa, and Patrick Corbyn for you history buffs out there. But he did not have a complete game tonight.

He was very efficient in his outing, but he couldn't even give the Diamondbacks quality start because Tori Lavello turned to the bullpen a little earlier than he normally would just to secure this game and this victory, which was only, which the Diamondbacks only had a two-run lead when, when, when, when, when, was pulled from the game. But he did have a one, two, three first inning, which was very encouraging considering the early struggles that both Merrill and Erod have kind of ran into as of late. With one out in the second inning, he did walk Caros and then gave up an RBI double to Adiel Amador to give the Rockies their first run, but he would get out of the inning without any allowing any further damage. Got himself into a similar jam in the third inning where he gave up

two singles to lead off the inning and then gave up a one out sack fly to Hunter Goodman, who again pestered us behind the plate and at the plate all night long. That sack fly made it a four to two game. But then Merrill settled in nicely. He had a one, two, three fourth inning. He had a one, two, three, fifth inning. And with one out in the six, he gave up a bloop single once again to Goodman that ended his day. Lavello turned to J-Mart early to preserve that two-run lead. And if we could take a look at his pitch chart, even though Merrill was effective tonight, he did not get a lot of strikeouts and it was fairly chaotic. I again, I always try to explain the, the rainbow of pitching that occurs here.

And Merrill was kind of onto something. You could see where his slider was going and it was kind of landing where he wanted it to, though. Some of those pitches are uncompetitive. He kept the fastball up, but interestingly enough, his cutter, which he doesn't usually throw as his primary pitch. I mean, I can't recall the last time I saw him using. his cutter as his primary pitch was by far his primary pitch tonight. Merrill used his cutter 37% of

the outing. Those are the darker red circles you see there. He got one whiff on the cutter. He did use his change up as a secondary pitch. That one he used 21% of the outing along with the four seam, which he also used 21% of the outing. He got four whiffs on the changeup and then two swings and misses on the four seam. His four seam maxed out at 93.8. And, he got four whiffs on the change up. He got four whiffs on the changeup. He got four whiffs on the change up. He and average 91.9, which was down. And then he also used his slider 15% of the outing that he got a whiff on, curved minimal amount,

and he threw the sinker one time. He got eight whiffs total, and that is, that's that. I mean, again, you can see he threw everything. Merrill was trying to throw everything. I don't know if he just didn't have a great feel for his change up tonight. I mean, he still threw it plenty,

but just again odd that he went so cutter heavy in this particular outing. However, it worked overall. In five and a third innings pitch, he gave up four hits, two earn runs, one walk, and two strikeouts. And in Colorado, that's almost like a no hitter. I feel like that's course field for you. But he did have two strikeouts. And again, you know what I say when it's a night like this.

The circle case strikeout meter deserves better. It deserves to eat. It doesn't deserve this little poultry offering of just two strikeouts. But we'll take it on a night where the Diamondbacks get the dub, and we'll take it on a night where that win is very, very important as far as the remainder of their season here. But I cannot say enough and stress enough how great this Diamondbacks bullpen has been and continues to be. And that's even on a night where Brandon Garcia gave up a home run and gave up a run. Like, I say that because when I was writing up the rundown, there was part of me that was almost like, man, the bullpen gave up a run tonight.

Not a great night for them. And isn't that an insane thing to say? Isn't that crazy to literally utter the words out of your mouth? The bullpen gave up one run, not really a great night for them. that's how great this bullpen actually has been where they give up one run and you're like wow off night for these guys huh do we do we not remember the last two seasons of baseball my god the latin kings they shove that's what they do they go out there and shove and the latin kings shoved the night even though one of them did have a moment where they faltered but jmart is a certified

G and a bona fide stud and as many of you know you can't teach that he came into the game there to get merrill out of the sixth inning he gave the diamond backs two thirds of an innings pitched he had one strikeout and he has continued to not allow a single earned run this season his er a since returning from tommy john surgery remains at zero point zero is that good not bad. Seems good. Seems pretty good. Brandon Garcia, meanwhile, a solid inning of work in the seventh, but then Tori asked him to do an up-down. He came back out for the eighth and gave up that lead-off home run to Ezekiel Tovar. Again, that was the only blemish on the entire bullpen on the night.

He went an inning and a third giving up that one hit, that home run for an earn run, and he had two strikeouts in his inning and a third of work. Juan Murillo came in to clean up that eighth inning. He gives up a hit. That's all he would allow. And he got two thirds of an innings pitched in. And then Johnny Lazzania, hot, fresh, cheesy, comes in for the save in his inning of work. He did give up a hit.

He did also make a very good defensive play, once again, as he tends to do. He walked a batter. There was also a speaking of that walked batter, a completely missed challenge by Gabriel Moreno, that honestly, I'm done with, I'm done with, it's inexcusable. After watching Hunter Goodman own us in ABS challenges all night long, I was, I found it astonishing that a ball that was clearly in the strike zone, in the ninth inning in a crucial at bat that resulted in a walk, wasn't even challenged.

It's crazy. It's crazy. And again, it just goes to show how lost. the Diamondbacks continue to be at ABS challenges. That's kind of crazy that they are as like they barely use it. And when they do, it seems like it's just wrong. Yeah. They have a good conversion percentage because they barely use it.

But they have this weird tendency, Noah, to like miss a call that they know they should have challenged, but they didn't challenge. And then like, you can almost see them sit there and think about it. And then too much time passes and it doesn't matter even if you want to call it because the empire is not going to give it to you. But then. three pitches later on a ball that's clearly a strike. You'll see them just challenge it because like,

damn it, I should have challenged the other one. So I'm going to call this one. You know what I mean? Yeah, that's bad. We need to get better. We need to get better at that because you can see,

obviously, Hunter Goodman is using it to his advantage on a bad team. Five for six tonight. That's pretty clear. Five for six tonight. If you know, if you can like hone in your, that ability to be able to recognize that a little better,

that could help you a ton. Yeah. And again, it's just a big part of the game right now. I mean, it's a big reason why we don't get to fight with the umpires nearly as much anymore. And all sorts of all sorts of stuff, right? But it should be something we're better at. And I don't know why we're not. And I don't even know how to get better at it.

But I can say that overall this is very much a, very much another great performance from this bullpen of a huge win for this team, obviously. We're going to take a quick break. And on the other side of this break, we are going to take a look at the numbers from tonight's game, big win. We're going to take a look at the National League Wildcard standings. And we still have to celebrate

If you wouldn't mind throwing that up on screen, let's take a look at how the Diamondbacks did tonight. again baseball is dumb and these are the numbers for tonight's win the diamondbacks win this one five to three both teams had two extra base hits diamond backs three for five with runners in scoring position to the Rockies o for six diamondbacks also hit the hard hit the ball very hard tonight a 52 percent hard hit percentage of their contact versus 24.1 percent for the Colorado Rockies the expected batting average pretty much a push here two

253 for the D-backs, 259 for the Rockies. D-Backs had eight hits. The Rockies had seven. But the ABS challenges, Noah. The ABS challenges are something. O for one for the Diamondbacks. Like, that's upsetting.

That brings me back to the days where I start having to ask, are you saving your ABS challenges to leave to your next up kin? Do you get to turn them in for extra wins at the end of the season? Or do we get to go to the prize counter and get Tutsi rolls? and, you know, little, little crappy prizes with our extra ABS challenge tickets at the end of the year. Five for six by the Rockies.

I didn't even know you could have a night like that where you went five for six. Honestly, I didn't know that was possible. I mean, I know if you used your challenges, you got to keep your challenges, but honestly, I didn't know a team was capable of going five for six in challenges. I'm blown away.

Five for six is a wild number. It really is. I mean, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, crazy. It's crazy. That'd be like, uh, an elite night at the plate. It's, it's, it's one of the, the most elite nights at the plate, right? I mean, you couldn't, you'd almost have, being perfect still isn't probably going to get you a six at bats, but my goodness, man.

Um, I, I, I just, I, I, I, I see that and I think, like, obviously, that's a skill that. that not every catcher behind the plate has, right? But it also still feels like, my God, the challenges being used at times by this team is just like knee-jerk reactionary challenges that aren't real challenges. And yet you see several moments where, you know, they definitely could have used their challenge

and they didn't. Definitely plenty of those. But here's some good news. we have ourselves some losses in the National League tonight. The Philadelphia Phillies lost their game against the Milwaukee Brewers and the Chicago Cubs lost their game once again against the Miami Marlins. So we have some new NL wild card standings to take a look at here. And hey, all that's important is that that wild card elimination number,

that tragic number right now remains at two. That number being at two is huge, and that just means that at least for the time being, the Diamondbacks cannot be eliminated by another team winning and them also winning. But that's something that, you know, could change really fast here. Luckily, especially if the Padres lose tonight, that elimination number is impacted by every single team in this race.

So as long as the Diamondbacks continue to win, and one of these three teams continues to lose, that number stays at two, and their season stays alive. But it's a very fragile situation as it stands, because at any point, the Diamondbacks could find themselves drifting away really quickly. And on any given night, a Diamondbacks loss,

and all three of these teams winning means it's a rep. It means it's a wrap. Right? So I, again, the only thing I could possibly have asked for when it comes to this season is this team still being relevant

on Wednesday, September 23rd with just four games left in their season. but I will say that if if they fall short, I don't know how we will feel. I feel like we've all been expecting them to lose for the last 10 days, right? I mean, I feel like for the most part it's been over since we posted that thank you fans thumbnail on one of our episodes of a post game show. but I almost feel like the closer we get to possibly getting a postseason spot, the more we're pulled back in and the more our heartbreak or the worse our heartbreak

might be if that makes sense. But hey, this is this is what life's about, right? The ups and downs, the emotional connections, the heartbreaks. Believing, believe in something. We got to believe in something. and if nothing more, we can believe that this Diamondbacks team can somehow hang in there and pull this off. Someone in the chat, as Noah brought up, suggested that I dye my mustache if the Diamondbacks make the playoffs. Thank you, Michael, for your suggestion.

And I do have to, I guess, confess or bring up the fact that I have already made a promise that I would get a tattoo. if the Diamondbacks made the playoffs. And I believe I said that I would let this chat select the tattoo. Wow. I'm not letting you select it based on no predetermined picks. I get to determine which four or five images might be selected to go on my body. That's the way that works. But I did offer up to get a new tattoo in honor of the Diamondbacks 2026 season.

Maybe it's a cactus light. I don't know. Maybe it's Phoenix. Jason likes Phoenix. I'll, I mean, I'll throw some ideas out there to the chat,

but let's be honest. Society has proven that you cannot give the online community full choice over any selection like this. No, I think they do. I think no,

no, no, no, no. This is how Pit Bull ended up in a Walmart, in Alaska. This is how a boat ended up with the name Boady McBoatface and this is how bad things happen. You cannot leave it 100% in the control of the people.

Okay. As long as the Jimothy Tawa in the Jimothy Tawa jersey, then, you know, we're talking here. But I think I kind of like Tawa Bunga, a little surf with like surfing with the words. Yeah. Yeah. I also love the idea of maybe like Tim Tawa as a ninja turtle with Tawonga underneath it. That's good. You know?

That's good stuff. Ryan is also reminding us of the eyebrow slits. Yes, at one time, Damon and I did also offer up that we would get Catelle Marte as eyebrow slits. I don't know if I can pull that off as a 45-year-old man. I think you could. You just have to play it. You just have to act like it's no biggie. Like I didn't actually get them?

Like they're not actually there. Do I do little sidelines in the side of my hair, too, to go with it? Oh, man. All right. Well, I'll tell you, I again, as far as the way things line up for the rest of the season, you know, if the D-backs can pull off, again, the S word, I'm not going to say it tomorrow in the finale against the Colorado Rockies. Then you've got to feel fairly good about at the very least them making that series against the Padres a playoff series. even if it's not to take the Padres spot. The Padres are currently up four to one, I believe, on the Dodgers.

So as far as this grouping is concerned, we just need whatever teams are losing to continue to lose, right? I mean, you can't expect this to go where all three of these teams lose all that their games and the Diamondbacks went out. But what we need is just one team and the fact that there are three teams currently that are still vulnerable and could still be passed. That is the biggest key that the Diamondbacks have multiple routes there. They don't need to just have one particular team loss, lose.

We don't need to just put it all on, you know, the Padres, right? But again, what we want is to be able to beat the Padres. And I don't know if them beating the Dodgers and securing their spot means they'll go easy on us. I don't know if them beating the Dodgers and, you know, I don't know how things are impacted. I don't know how those teams will be impacted. I don't know how the Padres, you know, what kind of lineup they'll put out against the Diamondbacks

if they can already lock down a spot. So if you're talking about the three different paths right now to the Diamondbacks getting to the postseason, it always felt like obviously taking the Padre spot felt like the most obvious. It did. because we play the Padres and we have a chance to beat them at the end of the year, right? But again, if the Padres can somehow clinch a wildcard spot by the time we play them,

then we just might have an easier path of beating them in that series and we just need the Cubs or the Phillies to lose. Both of those teams have a tough series to end the season. It's not necessarily a walk in the park for either of those teams. The Cubs end up with a series against the Red Sox that I believe has a double header on Friday. And that is in Boston, where as many of you know, and we discussed when we played the Red Sox, they cheat allegedly and steal signs. That's what was alleged to us. That's allegedly.

I'm not saying I know that one way or another. but you never know what could happen with the Cubs, and then the Phillies also have an equally difficult task in their final series against the year where they take on the Tampa Bay raise. The only problem with the raise is the raise don't have anything to play for left. So the raise might do something similar

and not put their best lineup out there against the Phillies that the Padres could do. I don't know. I don't know if any of this is going to happen, but, you know, it almost feels like there might be an easier path if the Padres clinch a spot and the spot we take is from one of the other two teams as they kind of spiral down and we win baseball games.

Stephen, I think Stephen's guitar covers is our old friend Stephen Bananas. I believe that's correct. And Stephen Bonanas says if the Diamondbacks make the playoffs, how do we feel about their odds in the wild card round? I don't love it. I mean, I'm not going to lie. I don't love it. We don't know what team they would be playing there.

They could end up freaking playing the Padres again in the wild card round. But for the most part, it's going to be obviously the one of the, well, not the Padres, excuse me. The Padres would play the second team and we would end up playing essentially the Braves. I don't know, man. I don't know. I don't, I want to say I don't love the Diamondbacks chances in the playoffs period. And I think that's fair to say. I think they've earned the right for me to say that about them,

that I'm not that confident considering how streaky and inconsistent this team has been. However, if they do get into the playoffs, they'll have done it by winning a bunch of games here when it mattered the most. So it's hard to argue that they wouldn't be hot at that time. And you know how baseball is. You get hot at the right time, late in the season, and next thing you know, you can go on a run. I was probably the biggest doubter of this team in 2023.

you remember I made plans to go celebrate my anniversary, my wedding anniversary with my wife in Las Vegas. And that went very poorly for me, thanks to the Diamondbacks making it to the NLDS. But it shows how little of faith I truly had in this team. And I would say that I'm probably at an equal amount of lack of faith right now in this team should they make the postseason.

So that tells me they'll go all the way to the World Series again, right? that's what that has to mean. I don't know. It's hard. This team is such an anomaly. At times, I don't even understand how they made it this far and are still in it. And then there are other times where I don't understand how this team is as bad as they've been for stretches. Specifically, once again, the stars that have been so good for this team over the last three seasons being still good, but barely above average versus being the superstars that we know that they're.

capable of being. Right. So anyway, let's go ahead and take a quick break. But can I just say that aligning yourself with one Noah Wolbrook is certainly a decision. I mean, again, you're allowed to do whatever you want, Derek. You're autonomous. You're your own person. You're your own man. But I would personally not want to. align myself with that guy. Just says it.

Apparently you have the voice of God right now according to the live chat as well. So that's kind of perfect. It's perfect for you to come in here. Damon, of course, we know this win was big. We know that this team still has a lot of work to do. Like the Rockies series was almost the easier part of this road ahead.

But we were just talking about it a moment ago. And I mean, as much as it's not ideal and as much as it takes the control further out of the Diamondbacks hands, the Padres potentially winning and maybe going a little light, securing a wild card spot and maybe not putting their best pitchers out there

or their best players out there for that final series of the year against Diamondbacks might not be the worst path to the playoffs if, you know, if that, as long as one of those other teams that we need to lose continues to lose. Yeah, the thing is, is, you know, we essentially need the Phillies or the Cubs to lose every single game the rest of the season, right?

I think they could each win one more game and the debacks would have to, you know, win out. And that would be enough for the debacks to potentially take one of those spots. But that might be a little bit unrealistic. The only reason the Padres feel maybe a little bit more realistic is because you can contribute to, you know, that loss, those losses that need to happen for them to, you know, not be in the playoffs. So, um, sure would be great if the Dodgers could maybe throw us a bone tomorrow, uh, and, you know, get the job done. It doesn't look like they're going to do it tonight. Um, I'm just going to go ahead and call that one over, but, but, please do. Because it's only in the sixth inning. So let's go ahead and then write that one.

It's over. Yeah. Yeah. How about showy Otani, Derek, when we need him most striking out with the bases loaded. Has anyone ever needed a double play? Oh, God. He needs to be in prison. Like, there's something shady going on here. Well, I mean, he's on your fantasy football team, so you're in cahoots with him. But I don't, I don't. We lost.

We're beyond that. I know, I know. We, we, it still feels gross to root for the Dodgers here. But overall, I do know that. And I get what like Sean is saying. Sean's saying, you know, the Padre is losing to the Dodgers and us being able to beat him is the only way that we can control. our own destiny, right? But even then, I still feel like that is such a tall task to expect them to, you know, go into San Diego and sweep that Padres team, right? So I'm just trying to

look at the other ways that this could potentially not be over and other ways that we could, in fact, be back and be back more than ever, right? But I don't know. It's all, it's all a long shot, right? Like, all of it is kind of like we're trying to hit the lottery here because we need so many things to break right. But so far, we're off to a good start in terms of needing things to break right. So let's hope that our good fortune can continue a little bit here. That's really all it's about. And it's also just about, again, meaningful baseball games. Like, I don't know what kind of, you know, splash or I don't know what kind of impact they could make in the postseason, right? But we got to get there. And if we get there, you just never know what could happen once we do.

Damon, I confessed on this show that I was probably the biggest doubter of this team in the 2023 postseason. And you can single-handedly attest to that based on my actions and my behavior in the month of October that particular year. Right. So, you know, it's one of those things that it's hard to imagine them with their inconsistency this season making that kind of run. But that year's team kind of got pretty inconsistent towards the end themselves too. All season they were inconsistent. There was a time where that team was winning the NL West after a good portion of the season. And then I believe they were the worst team in baseball in, was it the month of June that usually is kind of the D-Backs Achilles heel?

So that team was very up and down the whole year. And yeah, I mean, that's kind of, I guess, what you're hoping. is the case with this team too, that they can get so hot in this final stretch that no one wants to play the diamondbacks once you get into the playoffs. Because inevitably, if the debacks make it, they're going to be the hottest team in baseball,

and that makes you extremely dangerous. So I do think this team can win if they find a way to sneak themselves in because that's going to mean that, yeah, they're playing insanely good baseball at this point in time. Hopefully it happens. I mean, it's how funny is it that like it feels like the offense is finally starting to show up right now. Haven Smith finally shows up right now.

And you're like, could have had it all season, guys? It's weird because that's what I was saying, like, on one hand, this team has underperformed all year long. And I've constantly expected them to wake up and snap out of it and, get their offense going and it'll it will for a game but it rarely does for even like three or four games in a row even if they win three or four games in a row sometimes it's like back to two to one victories and three to one and you know that kind of stuff but uh i mean that i've never seen a team that i could say is like yeah this team's bad and they're probably not going to be very good if they make the postseason but then i also say like man this team should be so much better

than it is considering where they're getting contributions from. Nolan Aronado nearly hitting 30 home runs this season and leading the team and bombs, right? Guys like Gabby Moreno, Gabby Moreno, who we spoke about earlier, that's now challenging for the batting title in the National League, Damon. We never expected to see that. We expected Gabby to be good and better than he's been, but we didn't expect to see him challenging Luis Arise and Yordaun Alvarez for the best, you know,

best batting average in baseball. So it's like it's almost more frustrating that this team isn't getting those contributions from guys that we know and expected to get them from, but we're still getting the support help that we were asking for. Like they did add guys that are hitting

in the six, seven, eighth, and nine holes in this lineup. It's the guys hitting one, two, three, and four that aren't really contributing. And that part, that that's the part that's felt like I've just, almost foolishly been waiting for that to change all year long. And here we are with four games left in the season.

And, you know, again, outside of Gabby Moreno, those guys really aren't delivering consistently by any stretch of the imagination. No, they certainly haven't. But it feels like maybe they're starting to turn it up a little bit now. Like, you know, Corbyn gets the triple today. I feel like Corbyn's had some moments recently. Cattell rips the cover off the baseball in the first inning. I know that that was kind of the air that led to.

the D-backs scoring all those runs, but, you know, he hit the ball very, very hard. And I also just think that, you know, as we talk about a lot, like at the end of the day, these are hitters that at least strike fear into opposing pitching staffs. I know that maybe they haven't had the seasons that you've wanted them to have this year. But when Corby and Caryl and Mattel get up there and if it's a playoff setting, you're going to be scared that they can flip a game with one swing of the bat because that's the caliber of hitters that those guys are. And they've done it in the postseason before, both of them.

Like both of them were great on that 2023 run. So, yeah, I, you know, obviously they've let the team down. Corbin, Kattel, and Jerry, those three. But I do think that this is a big time opportunity down the stretch to kind of, you know, maybe get back on the good graces of D-BACs fans by carrying the offense. And that's not to say that the other guys aren't doing their part too, because like Tim Tawa puts it over the fence tonight. as you noted, Nolan Aronado has been awesome.

So, yeah, I mean, it's, you know, the contributors have been all around this season, but wouldn't it be great if the star players could act like star players for these final, what, four games? It would be great. Speaking of star players, Damon, the Amarillo Sodpoodle stars stepped up and they did it tonight. Carlos Vera Honda, three for five with a run scored.

Our guy, Owosu Asseidu, huge home run, two for five tonight, two runs scored, two RBI. And again, even Drew Jones chipped in. He had a double in this game and a run scored. So, man, big shout out to the Saudis. I love that team. I love that organization. They've always been extraordinarily kind to us. And it's always been fun to watch them play in Hodgtown.

That place, the ball flies. it's a great it's a really well-ran organization and just overall it's just great to see them take home the championship tonight so shout out to the Saudis for getting it done they beat the Cardinals
