Well, I have good news and bad news for you.
The Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Rockies tonight in a complete game,
and we can turn on those cactus lights.
But the bad news is, even with the win, they move one game closer to elimination.
We have more on what that path forward to the playoffs looks like.
Don't you go anywhere.
We are starting right now.
To another edition of the PHNX Diamondbacks post-game show,
A-K, presented by our friends at Circle K.
It is your mayor of PHNX occasionally known as Derek Monta.
Thrilled to have you guys here and thrilled to be talking about the Arizona Diamondbacks,
beating the Rockies tonight and keeping their playoff hopes alive,
albeit for the time being, but still a complete victory here in Colorado,
beating the Rockies by a score of 7 to 2.
Glad to have you guys here with us.
All you wonderful people in the live chat,
also thrilled to be joined by the one and the only bad boy of Ph.H.
H&X. It is Damon Dog on the
1s, aka Damon Farrell.
You getting arrested over there for
vandalism or something weird, bad boy?
I mean, you know me.
You know me. I'm always getting into something.
But what a win tonight, Derek?
What a victory for this team, man.
A big win when they needed it the most.
And again, a very, very complete victory
where the Diamondbacks played,
honestly, one of their best baseball games
that we've seen them play in a very long time.
This show is brought to you by our friends
at Game Time,
which you can use to go see baseball games just like this one.
Great to see that contingent of Arizona Diamondbacks fans up there in Colorado
enjoying Coors Field and all of that delightful weather that they have to offer.
But go download the GameTime app right now, create an account
and use our code of PHNX for $20 off your first purchase.
Terms do apply.
And yes, we got ourselves a big victory tonight.
Seven to two win over the Colorado Rockies.
The Diamondbacks improved 83 and 74.
and they also improved to 7 and 4 on the season over the Colorado Rockies,
which, again, the divisional record is important to maintain and to stack as many
divisional wins as possible because you never know what kind of tie we might end up in here
at the end of the season.
And there is some things that are getting close.
There is getting, you know, the race is, I guess,
getting to the point where the Diamondbacks might have more than one option as far as their way in,
but unfortunately they still need a lot of things to happen for them to get there.
They most importantly have to win baseball games, and the way they did it tonight was the exact way
that we want to see them play. The Diamondbacks offense got an early start in a must-win game,
giving Arizona three first inning runs and never looking back. And then Michael Soroka was outstanding on the mound.
just absolutely lights out for this team, as well as the bullpen was.
But based on your request, I mean, Damon and I had a little bit of a discussion about this.
We didn't know if this was sociopathic behavior for us to go ahead and send little Jerry
Pardomo up Mount 500.
But damn it, Damon, we're 83 and 74.
We're nine games over 500.
Send my man up the mountain.
Mm-hmm, mm-hmm, mm-hmm, mm-hmm.
Good news is we win 7 to 2.
Bad news is, unfortunately, their tragic number is down to two games,
thanks to the Phillies winning.
But if things stand the way that they currently are and might still be at the end of this show
that you are watching right now, there's a good chance of the three teams ahead of the
Diamondbacks in the wildcard race could all be tied with the same record.
And that just means that even though the Phillies did not lose today and the Phillies,
didn't make it a little bit easier or a little bit more, give us a little bit more hope as far as getting into the postseason.
It does provide multiple routes for the Diamondbacks to get in.
I mean, in fact, Damon and I were at one point questioning why the hell they were even showing the Cubs score.
We didn't even realize that the Cubs had lost enough games now to essentially also be back in the pack with the other two teams.
So from one perspective, not great that the Phillies won, obviously.
but if you want to be me and talk about the sod poodles being in the championship at the end of the show to brighten everybody's spirits,
then maybe you look at it in a different way and think, well, at least now all we need is one of these three teams to fade,
to trip over themselves, to feel the pressure, to feel the Diamondbacks breathing down their neck, and to feel the wrath of the Miami Marlins, Derek,
who are up four to two in the top of the 12 at Wrigley Field.
Let's go, Miami.
And batting.
Oh, man.
With one out.
Base is loaded.
Tell me Otto Lopez is at the plate.
Kyle Stowers is out of plate.
Kyle Stourer is going to hit a two-run bomb.
That's what he does.
Otto Lopez is on base, though.
He just got a hit.
Of course he did.
Of course he did.
That's all that man does.
But this offense tonight got plenty of hits.
And it was great to see because a lot of those hits were lead off hits tonight.
And that led to this big score winning seven to two.
The Diamondbacks had plenty of runners on base.
And this wasn't a game where they squandered those opportunities,
though they were.
still three for 14 with runners in scoring position.
So we're not going to let them off the hook in regards to that.
But a lot of this offense came because of the fact that those leadoff runners were able to get on base one way or another,
including several eight extra base hits and a late home run there from Aronado.
But it started all off with the Elamara Vargas leadoff single in the first inning.
He scores on a Gabriel Moreno one out RBI double that put Arizona up one to nothing.
Then Perdomo followed that up with an RBI single.
that scored Moreno and put the Dbacks up 2-0.
Aronado singled.
And then with two outs, Corby Carroll hit an RBI double that scored Perdomo and put the
Diamondbacks up three to nothing.
And from that point on, the Diamondbacks, again, they have not had very many first
inning runs this year.
They still are one of the worst teams in baseball as far as scoring runs in the first
inning.
But that was enough right there for them to hold on and win this game with the Rockies only
scoring two runs.
They did not let up, though.
They kept their foot on the pedal throughout the game.
and that was one thing that was good to see.
They have been able to put up those big crooked numbers in an inning in games,
but it's been more of the continued consistent offense,
and we saw plenty of that today.
And the third inning, Aronado hit a lead-off double
and then scored on a two-out ground rule double by Tim Tawa
that increased the lead to four to nothing.
That is the power of Jimithi Tawa, don't ever forget.
And then after the Rockies got back, two back in the bottom of the third,
Vargas once again, hit a lead-off.
a lead-off with an RBI single.
He advanced the second on a fielding error by Zach Veen,
and then he advanced a third on a Marte groundout,
and then he scored on a Moreno sack fly to make it a 5-2 ballgame.
Jordan Lawler hit a double, lead-off double in the fifth,
and then he scored on a Tim Taua-Sack-fly.
That put the debacks up 6 to 2,
and then Nolan Arnato, just like old times there at Coorsfield,
hit a lead-off home run to give the D-backs a 7-2 lead.
And that would be Aronado's 28th home run of the season.
He continues to lead this team, Damon, in home runs.
And I mean, you were just going over it yesterday, weren't you?
The value added by Aronado, 17 million.
You could probably throw another couple of million on there now.
Yeah, it was the Diamond Baxter paying him five.
His value has been $22 million worth this season based off of, you know, what he's been able to provide.
and that's a surplus of 17 million in value.
But Derek, I must interrupt and say,
eight two Marlins.
Eight two Marlins.
Put it to them.
Make it sting.
Make that.
Criple them.
Make that franchise.
Yeah.
To show up at the ballpark tomorrow and want to even be in this wildcard race.
Yeah.
Have the Cubs shaken their shoes until they collapse down the stretch.
I'll take any of these teams.
But there's one in particular.
that I definitely want and David knows why it's because I talked about it a long time ago.
I'm going to show a clip of me repeating that over and over and again for the next six months
if it happens. But we got to get there first and the Diamondbacks helped themselves get there
again tonight with a nice offensive showing here with these seven runs. Aronado's home run
421 feet left field, 106.2 miles per hour off the bat. He did not miss that one. He has an 11 game
on Bay Street versus the Rockies currently hitting 3.50.
over that streak with four doubles, a triple, two home runs, eight RBI, six walks, and three hit
by pitches? Really, Colorado? Three hit by pitches? Seems excessive. But yeah, the Diamondbacks
backs definitely led the way tonight. And that's what the key to this victory was, was leadoff hitters
getting on base. The Diamondbacks had a leadoff runner on base in six innings, I believe, tonight.
that I mean that's we just don't get that not to say that the diamondbacks haven't been getting plenty of plenty of runners in scoring position and not coming through for you know with with those timely hits but six runners on base here in this game to to start each inning was was huge and again that's the reason why the diamond backs put up seven runs in this game and how nice was it Derek to just get off to an early lead not have to worry about the nonsense
not have to worry about can we make a comeback or not?
It was almost a boring baseball game.
And I told Damon that.
And he said, but is it only boring because you forgot what it was like to win a baseball game in an easy fashion?
And he's not wrong.
I don't know what this is like.
I don't know what it's not like to be down and have to come back.
Think about that.
The Diamondbacks, what now have 48 comeback victories?
and this one doesn't count as one of those,
but I'm just saying in general,
48 comeback victories,
and they have 83 wins.
That means more than half of their wins have been comeback victories.
This isn't my fault.
I'm not the one that isn't used to this.
It's them.
It's their fault.
It's their fault for always being down.
Defense definitely left something to be desired today,
and probably the only thing that you could say.
I mean, they played some fine defense.
Nolan Aronado had a play in the ninth inning that just, again, like, Aronado somehow gains
superpowers from being close to the Rocky Mountains in the same way that Superman gains powers
from our yellow sun. It's remarkable, right? The closer he is to the purple mountain's majesty,
the more this man rakes. And again, still has not lost a step defensively when it comes to what he
could do out there on the field. But Tim Taua made a fairly astonishing drop in the third inning on a
pop-up by Zach Veen. That was as routine as it could have been. They were talking about the wind
swirling all night tonight out there in Colorado, so I get it. And again, being a chubby guy sitting
here in my seat talking about how easy it is to catch a fly ball out there during a baseball game,
much easier said than done. However, this one seemed pretty egregious. Tawa was charged with an error.
more importantly a run would score on a sack fly by connor norby that would have otherwise just
been the third out of the inning and that would have been it so it ended up costing them a run as well so
not great this this is again not to pick on the few things that they did wrong but those are the kind
of things that could have cost them if this is a much closer baseball game and these are the things
that as tory will probably say to them at some point we got to tighten up because they have to
play their best baseball. Today's game was a fairly complete baseball game. They did play good
defense. They would catch Jake McCarthy attempting to steal second in the third inning to end
the inning. Also Jake McCarthy, I believe, struck out as the first batter of the game. If there was
ever a time that I felt like Jake was deep down inside secretly trying to help us, it was this baseball
game. I'm not going to lie. I think Jake actually, I mean, he's a competitor. I bet you he wants
nothing more than to destroy our hopes and drugs. A hundred percent. He wants to be the one
end us but the problem is
I've seen Jake play under pressure
and if he's put that pressure
on himself then he's going to
go 0 for 16 in this series
is all I'm saying. Anyway, I really
hope that that doesn't come back to bite us tomorrow.
Please don't clip that. Please don't clip that. But anyway
I agree with you though. I mean I'm right there with you. That was
part of the reason why I was very comfortable moving on from Jake
McCarthy was because it felt like in the biggest moments he did not come
through. But when he plays
in Colorado, he's
Damn near an All-Star, and no one cares, and they lose 100 baseball games.
Yeah, and they did.
This was the 100th win or 100th loss this season for the Rockies.
So we're there in triple digits now, Colorado.
Going back to what I implored you yesterday when I said, let's finger poke of doom this thing
and let's just like roll over and let us have this one.
It feels like we're a little bit closer to that.
Feels like we're a little bit closer to that.
I got, Damon, if you would scroll up just a little bit on the chat, I did think Fatty Schroeder
right there is having 48 comeback wins a good or a bad thing.
Boy, that could be a whole segment for an episode if we really wanted to break it down.
Yeah, that's an interesting topic.
I mean, it's kind of a mixture of both.
Yeah, it's it is, I guess it's an indictment of their offense that they are down.
that often and that their offense has been so bad, especially scoring early and allowing a lot of
first inning runs without scoring a lot of first inning runs. So there's that. I will say it does say
that their ability to hang in baseball games, that's a good thing because that's just a good
trait for a team to build throughout a 162 game season. Right. And I also think it's a tremendous
thing for our bullpen because it means that this bullpen has been holding games
close late giving up one run or less in a lot of games to help this team come back and win so that
the games don't continue to spiral and get out of control yeah it's it's a it's a huge uh i think like
you know spot in the in the belt of the bullpen here where you know you say like they they
had a fantastic season and they kept you in a lot of baseball games and then the offense you know
does come through from time to time late in these games a lot of walking
off home runs, as we've noted, Derek, the most in the league this year.
Like, it makes sense.
It's just, it probably, anytime you lead the league and comeback wins, you're probably
putting yourself in too many positions where you're down late.
That's it.
But I will also say that, that, you know, if you're of the person that thinks that, like,
close games and comebacks build character, then this team has all the character.
This team has the best personality you've ever met of anybody ever in life.
It's like when Alex Kora said if they had a championship for vibes, we would win that.
Yeah, 100%.
You're right.
Like it's very character building.
It is.
But it's like where does it lead to?
I think for the most part, the downsides of those 48 comeback wins probably have cost them entirely too many games.
And now here they are late, needing essentially to play perfect baseball and a miracle on top of that in order for them to get into the post.
season with the way this team has played especially on a night like tonight it's hard not to
be a little angrier about how bad their offense has been performing over the last 30 days and
you know how inconsistent they've been and i mean that's saying that this is one of the best
baseball games we've seen them play in a while so i don't know what tomorrow holds for this team and
that's probably been the biggest problem is you just never know it doesn't really ever feel like
one great performance leads to multiple great performances.
It doesn't ever feel like this team ever gets on like not just a winning track,
but you know, like a like a wind streak where they're just dominant.
They have had win streaks this season, albeit small,
but they've also just had win streaks that have a lot of times been due to the outstanding
pitching that they've gotten from both their starting rotation and their bullpen this year.
and Michael Soroka, who was excellent tonight, has been a big part of that this year.
What an amazing find these two guys have been for this team,
considering how inexpensive they both ended up being for the Diamondbacks
as far as their payroll is concerned, right?
But Nolan Arnato here tonight, bruising his old team,
battering his old team and just looking like his old self.
And you just had some great performances all around offensively.
from this team. But when you look at the two guys that help the most tonight, it's Nolan Aronado
and it's Michael Soroka. And of course, Nolan Aronado is our king snake for tonight's game.
Aronado goes three for five in his old hometown there. Well, there's a preview of the other we're
doing too. Don't you worry. There's a sneak peek. I believe it. Nolan Arnato, he was three for five tonight
with a home run. He had a double two runs scored. And again, he was part of the, you know, big offensive
of effort here from this team.
We had Il-Demar Vargas going two-for-four with two runs and a walk.
Gabby Moreno was one-for-four with one double and two RBI.
Herdomo was three-for-five with an RBI and a run.
And then Tim Tawa was one for two with two RBIs, a double and a walk.
Just felt like the entire lineup contributed tonight.
So it was the exact kind of offense that we expected to see more often from this team.
And hopefully we will continue to see down the stretch.
it's what we need to see out of them in order for this last comeback to happen.
That's essentially where we're at.
After this season has come and gone, we have five games ahead of us,
and this is the eighth inning, essentially, and the Diamondbacks need to come back.
They need to walk off, and they need to figure out how to make their way into the postseason.
If they can, they're going to be red hot when they do enter the postseason,
because they'll have needed to win a lot of games down this final, you know,
six-game stretch in order to do so.
But, hey, we've seen, we've seen crazier things happen once they get in to the playoffs.
Let's make it happen again.
Let's, let's make it happen one more time.
Like, even if maybe the playoffs isn't enough to get Tori Lavallo extended or, you know,
to stick around or maybe some of you don't even want to see that.
Understandable, I'm not even going to argue with you on that.
What I will say, though, is,
that would be great to see this man have one last hurrah as manager of this team in the
playoffs and just see what they this particular rag tag group of of guys can do once they reach
that postseason goal so anyway we're going to talk about michael soroka and the pitching staff
on the other side of this break don't you guys go anywhere you are watching the ph next time and back
show well there are plenty of amazing real estate agents here in the state of arizona but one is

And let me tell you, we are pumped to be partnering together with the fine folks at Chestnut
Sports Club. What is Chestnut Sports Club? No, it is not a place for you to go run laps. It's a
delicious beverage for you to drink after you've run said laps because it is an amazingly
light and delicious beer that I have very very, very much.
much enjoyed recently for the first time and I was blown away. I will give my testimony when it
comes to light beers. I am normally an IPA guy. I usually drink beers that make most people,
I would say, like say I can't drink a full one of those. That's usually the response I get
when I tell people what I'm drinking. But when it comes to light beers, I don't like them because
they don't have the flavor I see. But that is not the Chestnut Sports Club light citrus law.
This logger that is only 90 calories, it is light but delicious with a light citrus flavor.
And I thoroughly enjoyed it.
It's again, brewed with real lemon zest, crisp, refreshing, and it actually has flavor.
It is the reason why this is my new beer.
And this is the Arizona-born logger people are calling the playable beer.
Great for golf.
Great for all sorts of afternoon activities.
Great for golf.
Just absolutely incredibly good for golf.
I mean, perfect for a pool day, perfect for if you're out there tailgating and you know
it's going to be hours outside in the sun.
Like, this is the lightest of like just fantastic, refreshing beers that you will find in the market.
It's so good.
And you can find it right now.
Fries, total wine, AJ's fine food, sprouts, all sorts of places near you.
You can also find it at spots like cold beers and cheeseburgers, postino, grass clippings,
Cornish pasty right next door.
and all sorts of great restaurants around the valley.
Those are big time spots.
Yeah.
That's all the spots.
All the places we go, you'll find yourself a chestnut sports club.
So next time you're at the store or out on the town, grab a chestnut sports club.
The great tasting light beer you've been looking for.
Look for that amazing green can.
And of course, welcome to the club.
Damn, good tag on it too.
All right.
Well, Damon, we got to talk about speaking of the club.
Michael Soroka is definitely invited to the club.
Michael Soroka is, and when I say the club, I mean, like, I'm starting to think that there would be no reason why we wouldn't have Michael Soroka in our three-man rotation should we make the playoffs.
This man has been outstanding.
I mean, the injuries setbacks obviously deterred his season and gave him less starts than any of us would have liked, but he gave the Diamondbacks another incredible performance tonight.
And he was good as he's been at any point of the season.
He had a one, two, three, first inning there with two strikeouts.
Hunter Goodman reached in the second inning on a fielding error,
but it was just a fielding error by Perdomo that got him there.
The Diamondbacks still, meanwhile, turned two behind him,
and that led to it still being just a three-batter inning.
Mickey Moniac did hit a lead-off home run off of him in the third inning,
which was really the only major mistake that he allowed in the outing.
And it wasn't even that big of a mistake.
It was a one-one change-up.
that was middle of the zone, but in on Moniac. And I mean, again, it wasn't a terrible pitch at all.
You just got to tip your cap to Moniac on hitting that one out. He would also give up in the same inning,
a double Detroit Johnston. And then that tower error on the fly ball that we were talking about earlier.
That allows Vien to reach, and that keeps no outs on the scoreboard. McCarthy would advance
Johnston the third on a fielder's choice. And then Connor Norby would bring him in with a sack fly.
that would be when Jake McCarthy, the next out would be Jake McCarthy getting caught stealing second.
But it was an unearned run that should be charged as an earned run to Tim Tawa, quite frankly.
It made the game four to two at the time.
But then just Soroka just got better and better as the game went on.
He had a one, two, three fourth inning, a one, two, three fifth inning.
He walked Norby in the sixth, but it would have been a one, two, three inning outside of that, other than that walk.
and then he ends his day with three strikeouts in the seventh inning and a hit by pitch of Cole Kerrig.
And let's be honest, Cole Carrig deserved it.
And that would be the end of his day.
No, I kid about that.
But again, Michael Soroka, even when he allowed a walk or hit batter, he still just limited the damage and found a way to get out of it.
He was masterful today.
He was masterful.
His pitch selection was outstanding.
He had a good mix.
I mean, his slurb.
is still just such a good pitch.
He did go to his four seam the most today.
That was his most used pitched.
I think, do we have the pitch chart, Damon?
His four seam was, he used the four seam 38% of the outing.
As you can see here, he kept it up, had a few down, a few all over the place.
His cutter was also kind of all over the place.
He only used that 12% of the outing.
But that beautiful, beautiful periwinkle color for his slurb, once again,
just shows that that pitch was landing.
almost, you know, every time in the exact direction and path that he would want it to land,
a couple or a little too middle in and a couple of our very, very far out and uncompetitive.
But for the most part, he was incredible with that slurve once again.
He got seven whiffs on the four-seem fastball, which maxed out at 95.4 miles per hour and average 93.2.
he got seven whiffs on the slurve and then he got two whiffs on the cutter which he threw 18% of the outing he also threw the sinker once and the you got 16 total swings and misses on the day for nine strikeouts and we haven't seen very many of these games this season as we've said their pitching strategy for the most part has been you know to pitch to contact it's been an ongoing
I guess on this show, but not really a joke.
It's just a reality of a big part of their success
has been not trying to have necessarily outings like this one
and having outings where the numbers,
the line isn't as sexy,
but the end result is still a minimal number of runs being put up on the board
and a quality start overall by another pitcher.
And that was what the Diamondbacks were getting
almost day and day out for a stretch during this year
from guys like Soroka and Eduardo Rodriguez
and it is a big reason why they are in the position
that they are in. I mean, as much as we say
the Diamondbacks probably should have won more games
than they've won this year,
they also probably should have lost more games
and should be thankful that Eduardo Rodriguez pitched
at the level that he did all season long
and that Michael Soroka on a budget deal
was as incredible as he has been for this team this year,
even though he missed time due to that injury.
But tonight, seven innings pitch, two hits allowed, two runs, one was earned, one walk, and nine K.
So again, the circle K strikeout meter, this is the kind of night that the circle K strikeout meter deserves.
Eaten good.
Eaten, eating good.
This is Guy Fietti came in and brought all of the Flavortown snacks.
And we're just bellies filled right now with a nine strikeout night for Michael.
Siroka, not to mention the fact that then, of course, you got Juan Murillo coming in, one inning of
work, two strikeouts, and Kevin Ginkle also coming in, and just looking dominant. And honestly,
I hate the fact that Kevin Ginkle has as many innings pitched as he does this year. He did give up
one hit, but zero's across the board besides that, and then the bullpen shut the door.
It's nice to have a bullpen that you can rely on, right? I don't even know what this is like.
It's weird to just have this happen and be like, I know it's a seven to two blowout, but the guys we tossed in there seemed to, I mean, that's just, it's, of course they gave us a scoreless outing.
That's been a big part of that thing we discussed earlier about as good or bad to have that many comeback victories.
As far as the bullpen is concerned, very good.
And these guys have been good all season long.
I almost feel like we've been constantly waiting for the other shoe to drop.
on the bullpen and for things to fall apart.
And they did at times.
But the diamondbacks were quick to change direction, right?
Like I said,
Edwin Diaz had as many blown saves in one week
as Paul Seawald had all season long,
but that didn't prevent the diamondbacks from moving on from him
the minute that they felt like he was no longer effective.
And that's kind of been what they've done all year long.
Even hell, even Derek Law,
the guy with the best name on this entire team got designated for assignment and he didn't even
deserve to be he was pitching outstanding for this team they just have had so many options this
year that they didn't need they they had to find someone to designate for assignment and it was
almost kind of like a last last in last out situation but law's been really good and and so have
several guys that they picked up to add to this bullpen like you know dennisantana
and Jonathan Loisaga and so many guys.
But at the same time, I know Ginkle needed work.
I just didn't really want to see him coming into this game
with how many innings pitched he has this year.
He and Taylor Clark are probably maxed out.
And so now it's the delicate balance of how to keep them still hot
and warm and stretched out ready and everything,
but not use them much over these next five games.
because I believe they're both right there at that 70 innings pitch threshold.
And you never really want to apparently use a reliever more than that.
But anyway, tonight, great performance overall here from this pitching staff.
And as you briefly saw there earlier in our slight preview,
we're also giving King Snake to Michael Soroka because Michael Soroka was outstanding
and he understood the assignment.
This is the kind of outing that we want to see from a starter when our Ciroca.
is on the line.
I'm just going to say it.
I don't give a shit if the offense doesn't perform.
But what I can't stand is seeing one of our best starters, the guy that we've called an
ace giving up five first-run innings, first inning runs when our back is up against
the wall and our season is literally on the line.
So, you know, I can't tell you how much I appreciate the effort that's Roker brought.
Sure, it's a Colorado Rockies team that has now lost.
100 games. I'm not going to act like you needed to come out and, you know, be at your best
against this particular team. But yes, you do. Yes, you do. I don't care if this is a, you know,
AAA team that you were facing. You need to come out and smash them and you need to get yourself
in a rhythm and you need to be, try to get yourself on a dominant role. And they at least gave
themselves that win tonight. It's just, it would have been great to see this kind of performance
out of some of our other starters, you know, prior to this night.
And Groundhog Mama asked the question,
what if Soroka was healthy all season long?
I mean, again, I can't even begin to wonder that
because it would probably start making me very, very sad.
I still feel, though, like even with guys like Mitch Bratt and Cole Drake out there,
none of those, I mean, there were some bad outings.
There were some bad outings from several guys,
and I think you could say that about everybody in the starting
rotation. Even, even Eduardo Rodriguez has had some very bad outings, right? But for the most part,
I still find the offense to be at fault for a lot of our shortcomings, especially over the last,
like, you know, 40-ish games, right? So, or maybe not that many, but maybe 30 games. I don't know.
I just think that, like, overall, the pitching staff, again, they've had.
had their inconsistencies, but you will never get me to utter a bad word about this bullpen.
The Latin Kings have been untouchable this year.
And these guys deserve all the flowers, every single one of them, you know.
Such a cool name.
Every time.
I always feel like I'm going to get in trouble calling them that.
And I don't care because I think it's awesome.
And I think that's exactly what they are.
They are my Latin Kings, at least.
We're going to take a quick break.
And on the other side of this break, we're going to take a look at the numbers from this game.
We're also going to take a look in on the playoff race, which Damon is updating us on,
or at least the wild card race as we get here down the stretch.
So don't you go anywhere you are watching the pH next time in Beck show.
Well, the football season is heating up unless you're talking about my fantasy football team,
which is dead in the water.
But every week feels bigger.
Oh, yeah, I got smoke.
I mean, I didn't even have a good game.
I have like six guys on the I are right now.
I scored like the eight most points in the league.
Yeah.
And I won by 50 because Derek was that bad.
I'm just going to like abandon my team.
I might give it to Gill just because I don't want to deal with this team anymore.
Poor Gil, man.
You still have to go to Waffle House.
You're not going to Waffle House.
I'll go to Waffle House.
I'll go to Waffle House.
Don't get me wrong.
I'll go to Waffle House regardless now just because I'm going to transfer ownership of my team to another person.
I don't want any part of this, but I do want a part of the action over at Draft Kings.

If you love NASCAR, you might have seen that Ryan Blaney might be a good driver,

And he definitely lost both the race and the fight with Carson Hosabar.
And NASCAR was all about it.
NASCAR was all about it.

Carson Hosevar, you monster.
I'll never forgive you.
You see, this is the kind of action you can get in on October 16th through the 18th when
the chase returns to Phoenix Raceway right here.
And of course, you can watch NASCAR championship contenders.
Hopefully Ryan Blaney is still one of them battle at the freeway insurance.

And Ryan, we got to work on your ground game.
See, if he would have gone in and shot on him,
taking his legs out, Carson would have never expected that.
He came in aggressive and grabbed the...
He was asking to get punched in the face.
He really was.
He really was.
Six-zero Dodgers, Derek.
All right, well.
Bottom seven.
See, and I believe based on reports that I saw that Shohei Otani is due to be back in the lineup for the Dodgers tomorrow.
And they are already kind of on a pretty dangerous role.
So.
I mean, that could be a good boost, too, just for the, for the boys in that locker room, getting Otani back.
I mean, I think at this point.
I what I could foresee happening if I'm not lying is I could foresee everything going our way and then us not being able to finish the job against the Padres in San Diego.
Yeah, I think that's.
I feel like that's the tallest tallest task ahead is beating, taking, sweeping the Padres in San Diego for the final series of the year.
No doubt about it.
I mean, you probably get that at like to win all three games.
You probably get the debacks at like plus 1,200.
or something like that.
You know what I mean?
It's very unlikely that you win all three of them.
I mean, it's not out of the question.
And it's also not to say that perhaps,
just perhaps,
one of the other teams fades, right?
But even then,
the Diamondbacks have to win the games against the Padres,
even if one of the other teams fades.
So that's the biggest problem.
It's why sweeping the Rockies is an imperative.
It's the most important thing
that the Diamondbacks have
before them right now.
They have to sweep the Rockies
and they have to give themselves a chance
going into that final series of the year.
I think that many of us would be still disappointed.
It's not going to say that we're not going to be disappointed,
but at the very least, man,
if the season was still alive while they were playing the Padres,
that would be a playoff series.
And if they don't beat the Padres to get into the playoffs,
then they don't really do that.
deserve to be in the playoffs, right?
Like, I mean, it just, it feels like the most heartbreaking scenario would be for it to end prior to us playing San Diego.
I think the most heartbreaking scenario is that we-
Fall one game short.
We beat the Padres in two out of three games, but we needed to win all three in order to make the postseason.
That's the world I envision, Derek.
That's the nightmare scenario that I wake up in my bed screaming in the middle of the night.
and, you know, I have to call you on at 3 a.m.
and say, Derek, I just had a bad dream.
He does that so often.
You do that so often.
And it's always the Padres stealing the wildcard spot over us every time.
Sometimes, like, the imagery is different.
Like, sometimes it's actually a baseball game.
One time you told me, Jackton Merrill was dressed like the hamburger, and he literally stole.
He robbed Chase Field.
He robbed the postseason trophy.
He took our World Series trophy.
Yeah.
I was like, Damon, you guys.
stop taking those edibles before you go to sleep.
Pure edibles, man.
Take the right ones.
Good stuff.
Let me just say.
But yeah, I mean, I think we're bound to be hurt is truthfully where I'm at right now.
But I'm ready to be hurt.
I would almost prefer to be hurt because it means that we're relevant down to the wire.
And as much as that sucks, I want a shot at this thing.
And I, you know, low key, like I'm driving in the car today, Derek.
and I've been very like, it's over.
I don't even care anymore.
His team sucks.
Like, they're stupid anyways,
who even likes stupid baseball.
And then I'm driving in the car today and I go,
but there's a chance.
Yeah.
I want that chance so damn bad.
And right now, I mean, like if,
especially if the Dodgers can hold on in this game,
there is light at the end of the tunnel.
That's all I'll say.
The tunnel is caving in on us.
The rocks are about to completely,
wipe away any sort of light that we could see,
we are going to be crushed to our deaths, most likely.
But, damn it, if we're not going to try to run for that light at the end of the tunnel.
It's exciting.
It's exciting.
I believe I'm going to make it at least right now.
And maybe we pull in Indiana Jones.
Yeah.
You know, maybe we slide under the final rock, you know, concaving on top of us.
But I don't know, man.
I'll tell you what.
It feels pretty gross for the Dodgers, though.
Yeah.
That part is bad.
That part feels bad.
It feels horrible.
And now here we are.
Dodgers up 7 to nothing.
And I have to let out a woo-hoo.
And that feels...
It's so bad.
Gross.
Also, we had somebody, Dinger's Burner account is in the chat.
Damon, Dinger, the mascot for the Colorado Rockies, obviously.
It says at least you guys have a chance to make the playoffs.
It's been since 2018.
we've gone to the World Series since then, Digger.
I am sorry, my brother.
Yeah, my, my, that is, yeah, that is the most I can, I can give you here.
I mean, listen, you know, if we're talking about NLS Brethren,
we probably are more able to at least, you know, be, be with you guys and relate to you guys than the other teams.
I mean, I know that, I know the poders have never won.
Those pretentious California teams, are you kidding?
I know the Potters never won, but they recently, they've made the playoffs like almost every season.
And the Giants have three World Series in our lifetime and a bunch of playoff appearances.
And of course, the Dodgers are ruining the sport.
So we've been there before.
We're usually not there every year.
Brother, we're just, we're just a pair of blue collar, blue collar guys.
I feel bad for the, feel bad for the Rockies fans.
From weird terrain areas.
But, hey.
At least you guys got to see no one are or not.
do these cool stuff tonight.
It's pretty cool.
I like fat.
I'm becoming a big fatty Schroeder guy.
I need a shirt that says I'm a fatty Schroeder guy.
It says, don't think of it as the Dodgers winning.
Think of it as the Padre's losing.
And that's what matters.
That's the right mindset.
I love that.
Let's take a look at the numbers from tonight's game
because I also love that, Damon.
Those numbers definitely make me feel good.
The Diamondbacks win this game by a score of 7 to 2
over the Colorado Rockies.
they had a number of extra base hits tonight.
Five extra base hits to the two from the Colorado Rockies
and three of those extra base hits were leadoff extra base hits,
as we discussed earlier.
So good night to get that offense going early.
And big reason why they were able to put up seven runs
was because of those leadoff hits that they had all night long.
Meanwhile, again, not very efficient with runners in scoring position.
and they were three for 14 for a 214 batting average.
The Rockies were held to just two opportunities, and they were 0 for two.
Hard hit percentage.
The Rockies were hitting the ball hard.
They just did not hit hard enough.
They were hitting it.
42.9% was their hard hit percentage to the Diamondbacks 52.8%.
Also expected batting average, the Diamondbacks had a 333 expected batting average to the Rockies 161.
And one single ABS challenge was used in this game.
maybe that's why I felt like this was just an uneventful game.
Like there was no...
You need to see challenges.
I need to see drama.
I need to see some sort of contention.
The drama is what's going on around the league for us tonight, at least.
You know, when the Diamondbacks handle business,
and that's exactly what I want to see,
because I'd rather just, like, get our stuff out of the way
and then start focusing on what else is happening elsewhere,
because the Marlins win.
Of course, the Phillies, unfortunately, get their W against the Brewers.
But the Dodgers are continuing to do us a big favor tonight and hopefully will the rest of
this series.
You're not wrong.
You're not wrong.
Well, let's take a look.
Do we have the wild card standings?
No, I was going to like maybe say, I was trying to save it until maybe this game went
final if we were still going to be live on air.
But I can grab us an updated one with the Cubs result.
No, that's, yeah.
Yeah, if you could, that would be great.
Just because as far as the chances here are concerned, I mean,
We got Chad Lee, it so much, says the Diamondbacks had a 0.1% chance to beat the Braves down 10 to 4 in the 9th with one out on June 5th, 2025.
He did that.
So I hear you, man.
I mean, again, it's baseball is.
No, I just, it's just such a, it's just such a unique game for that exact reason.
It's such a unique game because in the grand scheme of things,
unsurmountable leads are somehow erased in a single half of an inning at times, right?
I mean, and that could be the same.
The same could be said for potentially a lead that seems insurmountable in the wildcard race.
There's no E next to the Diamondback's name, but they are getting close.
Their tragic number, once again, is two, meaning now any combination of all three,
if all three of those teams lose, it would take.
take all three teams winning and the Diamondbacks losing to eliminate them. Or it would take a
combination of, you know, all three winning two games in a row. And that would be the end of the
diamond back season, right? But if the Cubs lost tonight as they did and the Phillies won, and if
the Padres hold on to lose, all three teams will now be tied in the wild card race with the
exact same record and the Diamondbacks will be four games back from all three teams.
It's not a great position to be in. But again, now what happens here is instead of us just rooting,
once again, as we were probably today, simply for the Phillies to lose, we are now just rooting
for any of these three teams to stumble, fall, feel the pressure, have, be overcome.
come by this moment and have it be too much for them, right?
Maybe just maybe if the Dodgers sweep the Padres,
maybe that's enough for the Padres to just be in kind of a slump
by the time we play them.
Just never know how any of this will go.
But I will take you back to what I said yesterday,
which is if you're wondering why you're a Diamondbacks fan
or why you watch baseball or why you do,
deal with this heartbreak. This is it, man. I mean, this is it. This is as much as I hate to say it,
coming as a guy that literally wants to give his fantasy football team away to anybody, so I don't
have to deal with the constant pressure and scrutiny and stress of managing this team every single week.
This is what, this is the playoffs for us. This is what should make you feel alive. This is what
should, you know, put some fire in your blood right now is this and the fact that we're still in it.
And the fact that this is the final week of the baseball season.
Before there was the third wild card spot, hell, before there were wild card spots at all,
this is how the season played out.
You just played your own division and your own league only your own league and your own division far more.
and the playoffs happened within the season.
You had this kind of run where, yeah, even though you might be down by a bunch of games,
you still played those teams ahead of you before the end of the year,
and you could possibly make up that ground.
And it happened all the time.
It was part of the excitement of the regular season.
It's a big reason why this stupid baseball season is 162 games long.
It's never going to change now due to money.
But that's the reason why.
It's one of the reasons why adding interleague play
and reducing the amount that you play your own division
has almost made the 162 game seasons seem irrelevant, right?
But this is it.
This is what you get through that season for
to be in this position where there is no E next to your name
like there is next to every other team in the national league
that isn't a division winner or one of these four teams right now.
So come on, man.
And this is it.
Cheer for your team.
Stop rooting for them to live.
lose. Stop, stop doing some of the things I've seen people doing. This is the time for you to put on
your Diamondbacks gear and, you know, have some hope and your heart might be broken. Trust me,
sucks when your heart gets broken, but you'll feel alive. You'll feel alive, damn it.
Yeah, I don't understand that, Derek. We talk about that on this show. That's a common theme of this show
because, you know, there's just such a loud anti-regime crowd in this fan base, guys that, you know,
definitely hate Tori, but also really don't like Mike all that much either.
Sure.
And it almost clouds their ability to root for their supposed favorite team.
And it's sad.
And it's like in this moment, I know that a lot of people think that long term,
it might be better for the health of the organization for Tori to go out the door
and for a new manager and new life to come in this organization.
I get it.
But you just, you're never going to sell me on, I'm rooting against.
my team to make the playoffs at the end of the day.
Yeah.
Even if you think that, you know, Tori is not the guy, you should be rooting for Tori to
prove to you otherwise.
You should be rooting for Tori to change that narrative and prove to you that he's a great
manager because he's the current manager of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
And yeah, I don't understand that.
We're probably, you know, emphasizing a very loud minority of this fan base, whereas most
of people are good fans, care about the team.
are absolutely rooting for this team down the stretch.
But yeah, it's like you said about Pavin, right?
Yeah.
You're still, like, you're still not convinced.
You still aren't changing your position.
I hope he's the reason we make the damn playoffs.
I hope it's a walk off every game of the Padre series.
And everybody is on Twitter going,
Damon, you are the biggest clown in this fan base.
And I'll go, you're right.
I am.
And every morning I wake up and I put my white face paint on and my big giant red nose
and my size 26 shoes.
And me and my 26 friends.
get into a small car and we drive to the office together.
Yeah, we do.
But I want to win, damn it.
Yeah, I agree.
I mean, I agree.
And that's kind of my feeling.
I still think that it would take a performance in the playoffs and maybe a trip to the DS
for Tori's job to even be considered secure.
So again, I don't know if just getting to the postseason is going to be enough,
at least in my opinion, but what do I know?
I will, I mean, I know that that's just like a take on your end.
So I'm not saying you're wrong.
I, because I know that you're not like stringently being like,
this is how I feel about this is what's going to happen.
But I think that if they make the playoffs,
Tori will be given an extension personally.
Maybe not a long-term extension,
maybe something like, you know, two years or something like that.
But I would personally think that they like,
probably set out before the season and said make playoffs and you're staying don't make playoffs and
you're gone yeah and so they'll probably try to hold true to their word because that was more
than likely the conversation that was set before 2026 even started so that's that's my
personal opinion on that but i wouldn't be shocked either if they were just like yeah we made the
wild card and then we got smoked and then we decided it was better to move on and find a new manager
like that wouldn't that wouldn't that wouldn't exactly be out of the question either i mean you're
wrong about that but I also think that overall it still feels like uh I I don't know I might see and that
this is where my opinion difference is is vastly different I don't think anybody remembers when
you made the postseason and you got like swept in two games in the wild card round anyway
so I saw my doubts about this team and their ability to perform against the best teams in
baseball when push comes to shove and we're in the postseason prove me wrong make me a no big
old dummy. I think the Padre series
would be a massive start.
Now you're talking. Because those games are huge.
That's a playoff series. We're going to have to win every single
one of them. And if they were able to pull that off,
I think that's when you start to,
you know, Ted Lassow believe sign
above your head smacking that thing
being like, this team has
something. This team, you know,
they've proven that they can at least
win in the clutch, right?
And so I feel like
I want to see what that looks like in the postseason
because they're battle tested. They have
haven't been good necessarily, especially on offense, but they are battle tested and they do have
talent.
And that again, going back to that question earlier, is it good or is it bad that they have 46
comeback victories?
When it comes to 48 comeback victories, when it comes to this, good, right?
Because they are not shook in close games and there's a good chance when you get into
the postseason, you're going to play in close games.
Those games tend to be very close, unless you're talking about the Diamondbacks playing the
Yankees in the World Series of game six.
But anyway, let's take a quick break.
And on the other side of this break, we are going to once again talk about the
Emerillo Sod Poodles and the Texas League Championship, folks.
That's what you came here for.
That's why we wait until the final segment to talk about the Saudis.
And don't you go anywhere, you're watching the PHNX Sod Poodles podcast.
Well, when Damon talks about those edibles that he took before he got himself,

Damon, yes, I know.
I might be the only person in this chat that cares about it,
but you guys should too.
The Amarillo Sad Poodles tied the Texas League championship up at one game
apiece with a huge win tonight.
And Carlos Vera Honda,
one of the best prospects in the Diamondbacks entire organization,
continues to do it.
He homered for the second straight game,
this time with a two-run blast that brought home Gene Walters
and gave the Amarillo Sod Poodles a four-run lead tonight.
You also had Yassel Soler go deep in the second inning
for his first double A home run of his career.
And so now the series is tied up at one game apiece
with the Springfield Cardinals.
Great name.
Guess what organization they're part of, Damon?
The Springfield Cardinals.
A bunch of dorks.
What is wrong with you guys?
Come up with something cooler you're trying to say?
Minor league baseball is meant for a name like the Saudis.
You bunch of losers.
I mean, there's like the Iowa Cubs as well.
Yeah, I hate them.
And every team in the Yankees organization is something like Yankees related.
It's dumb, but anyway.
I like related stuff, but I don't like.
Related stuff's great.
Related stuff's fine.
Like aren't they like, don't the,
isn't there a Bay Sox?
Something like that.
Yeah.
Stupid.
They're all stupid.
Oh, you don't like that?
No, I don't.
I like Amarillo Sod Poodles.
That's why I like,
you know how I feel about the Reno Aces.
Don't get me started.
Don't make me bash that organization.
But Hillsborough Hopes,
Amarles sod poodles might be two of the best names in all the minor leagues and two of the best
organizations.
You know,
it's pretty good.
The iron pigs.
Oh, the iron pigs.
That's a great name.
Yeah.
That's a great name.
As much as I hate to throw a bone to the Phillies.
Iron Pigs legend Garrett Stubbs, by the way.
Yeah.
Guy lives in wherever the hell that team exists.
Good.
Because he stinks at baseball.
Good.
I hope he stays there forever.
Amarillo did shut out the Cardinals tonight,
marking their second postseason shutout victory in club history.
And it was their sixth shutout of 2026 and their first shutout against Springfield since 2019.
So here we go.
One game to decide the championship, forcing a final game three there in Springfield.
So we'll see if our Amarillo sod poodles can hold on to continue to make me happy and feel alive inside.
And yeah, that's it.
We're talking about banana ball now in the chat.
Look, look, if you go to banana ball, you should know exactly what you're getting.
I won't lie.
I never really liked the idea of them trying to expand it into some sort of real league with standings and such.
That just felt kind of silly, but that's coming from a guy who very much is a huge fan of pro wrestling.
So who am I to stand here and say that having standings and championships for a predetermined sport is silly?
I think I would be pretty much a hypocrite if I were to sit here and say this.
but, uh,
double a ball is not predetermined.
So get in on the excitement of Amarillo's sod poodles baseball is what I'm saying.
Isn't that right ruckus?
Tell them,
Ruckus.
Uh,
we thank you guys so much for joining us tonight.
We will see you back here.
Uh,
what, Damon?
Tomorrow for a post game show.
Are you here tomorrow, Damon?
Are you abandoning me tomorrow too?
Are you off tomorrow?
I'm afraid I'm abandoning.
Yeah.
I knew it.
I knew you so,
bitch.
What time is tomorrow's game?
Oh, I don't know.
It's a, it's at the same time.
It's at 5.40 p.m.
So I guess...
Maybe I'll call into the show, Derek.
I'll just be here by myself once again all night like I was tonight.
Would you like that if I called into the show?
Actually, yeah, I would.
I would like that quite a bit.
Maybe I will.
Maybe I will.
That would be something I would enjoy very much.
But I hope you guys come back.
At least you guys join me tomorrow night for another post game show.
Should we do a watch long on Thursday?
Aren't we doing a watch long on Thursday?
It's a must. Everything's a...
I don't know.
We'll see.
Honestly, Thursday could be a...
hit anime and hoops is asking for when we do watchalongs or if we do watch along we absolutely do
watch along we've got one more plan but this one's flexible we were trying to hit it on uh what could
be the elimination game hopefully that's not until sunday that would be the hope and if so we'll do
a watch along on sunday but maybe we'll do it first uh we got some uh super chats from cool bro that we missed
my apology cool bro uh he said san diego went on a how many game win streak why not us good point
I think they won like eight or nine in a row.
I think nine, yeah.
Yeah.
It's not out of the question.
Cool bro also says root for Tori like we root for Paveen.
Yeah.
True, true.
Banana ball isn't predetermined.
Okay, says you.
And then last he says, world darts championship in the seven-part off-season.
Why not?
I'll cover the world darts championship.
Oh, that would be electric.
We could definitely get Owen and Reese involved.
Owen and Reese loved arts so much.
so amped for it as do everybody in that crowd and I don't understand how maybe it could be like a like
an old PD segment of like teach darts to derrick sure oh and teaches darts to derrick it's more
teach me why i'm when when i should be excited tell you why are we screaming because i don't ever
understand why that crowd at that event is screaming but i don't i don't know i don't know a lot folks
i don't know a lot but what i do know is that uh this baseball team is still alive and they still
have a chance to make the postseason. And should that happen, I have some non-refundable trips to
cancel or sell to somebody or figure out. But let's hope they make me have to deal with all of that
at a later time. Until then, you can follow us on social media. I'm a cap underscore caveman with a
K. Of course, Damon is at Damon dog. And of course, we are all Damon's dogs. He's at DAWG. And we're all
Damon's park. Park, park. It fucking worked. Damon. It works.
Oh, my God.
I really wanted to end the show there, but we can't.
We can't until we say baseball is fun.
I have never, I have never had more hope that the Diamondbacks were not just going to make the playoffs,
but that they were going to win the World Series that I do right now in this moment sitting here,
thanks to that working, him working again.
Our shows at PHNX underscore D-backs, but is always always always.

Love you guys so much.
We'll see you back here for another postgame show.
Until then, have a wonderful rest of your night.
Behave yourself, Sean, and remember kids.
Baseball is fun, but so much more fun when you believe!
