Well, that was way closer than it should have been for a 12-run game.
But the Diamondbacks finish off the sweep of the Colorado Rockies.
And we're turning on our cactus lights for the D-backs fifth win in a row.
They give us a chance to make the playoffs heading into this final series of the year against San Diego Padres.
And we are talking about all of this right now.
Don't you go anywhere.
Into another post-game edition of the PHNX Diamondbacks podcast, presented by our friends in Circle K.
And if you aren't excited, get excited because the Arizona Diamondbacks head into the final series of 2026 with a chance to make the mother effing yoffs.
They did so after beating the Colorado Rockies today by a score of 12 to 8.
I almost wanted to do the thing Spencer Smith does from the BNBR podcast called the Kala Lollah Lallar Lottorakis.
But we did beat them even though it took entirely too long to do so.
and the Diamondbacks complete the sweep of that team,
something they have not done in quite a while.
But of course, welcome in to you all.
This is the PHNX Diamondbacks podcast.
My name is Derek Montia,
occasionally known as your mayor of PHNX.
I got the bad boy of PHNX on the ones and twos today,
aka Damon Farrell,
aka Damon Dogg.
And he's ready to go to war with the San Diego Padres
this weekend in the final series of the year.
Not to mention the fact that.
Three games for the rest of our lives,
That's it. That's it. Not to mention the fact that he may have been the reason why this game got so close. I'm not blaming him. I'm just saying once he stopped supporting this team, we saw how things went. And they went. Stop supporting this team. They went south quickly. Damon got up and walked away from our watch along and did another podcast. But what a way of putting that, Derek. I'm just saying. I'm just stating facts is what I'm saying. I'm stating facts. You don't think I was paying attention on my on my laptop while doing my other show because this means everything to me. Then you're out of your mind. Then you're out of your mind.
then you don't know me at all.
I don't think that at all.
But we're just going to start, even on a day where we won,
we're going to start off arguing.
And that's just the relationship that we have.
Welcome into the pHNX Dabx show.
Welcome into the Phajanax show.
Enjoy the ride.

And the D-Backs win and they keep winning.
Diamondbacks win their fifth game in a row, beating the Colorado Rockies by a score of 12 to 8.
They improved to 85 and 74 on the season, and they are 11 games above 500.
Damon, I don't know if it's the last time, but it might be the best time.
Send Little Perdomo up Mount 500.
And we have members of our own coming.
in our group Slack right now rooting against this baseball team because they are based out of that city known as Philadelphia in Pennsylvania.
And I just want all of those cowards to know, we're coming for you.
You feel that you hear those footsteps.
You feel that.
Boom.
You feel that breath on the back of your neck.
That's the Arizona Diamondbacks coming for your playoff spot.
Boom.
It's facts.
I mean, Derek, it's the, it's the water gift I posted the other night.
scared. You can just hear the footsteps and you start to, you start to tense up a little bit.
And you start to, and you're a Padres fan. You go, ooh, I'd love to not be playing the Dodgers
tonight. You're a Phillies fan. You'd say, man, the raise for our final series of the season.
One of the best teams in all the baseball. A team that we beat for a chance to win their only
world series and this is their retribution. They get to kick you out of the playoffs.
Fire me.
You know, I was wondering what the race really had to play for,
and you just gave me something for the race to play for, 2008.
Let's go.
You're damn right.
I am all in on this.
But the Diamondbacks scored a lot of runs in the first inning once again,
and they did something that has never been done in franchise history.
This was wild to me.
I still couldn't get over this because I know we haven't been around for a long time,
but the D-backs in the first inning of this series have scored three runs, four runs,
and today they scored six runs,
making it the first time in franchise history
that the Diamondbacks have scored three or more runs
in the first inning in three straight games.
What?
That doesn't even seem like that difficult of a feat.
I feel like you get hot over the course of one week
and that record gets set easily,
but that is the truth.
This is the first time that the Diamondbacks have scored this early
and this many runs, putting up crooked numbers
in the first inning in all three of these games
and winning all three of these games.
and winning all three of these games for the series sweep.
The last time the Diamondbacks swept a series against the Colorado Rockies in Colorado at Coorsfield
was June 8th through June 10th, 2018.
Over eight years ago was the last time we swept the Rockies in Colorado.
And that's not like the Houston Astros.
That's not like playing the Angels, you know,
an inner league team that we might not see for a number of years before we play them
or when we do play them, we play them in a very limited capacity, usually just one or two
series that year, right?
This is the Colorado Rockies.
This is a division rival.
And the last time we swept them at home was 2018.
With how bad the Rockies have been, that doesn't even make sense, Damon.
That doesn't even compute.
No, that's pretty shocking.
I can't lie. That's pretty shocking.
It's crazy. It's not good enough.
It's definitely not good enough. But it was good enough over the last three days.
And the Diamondbacks are somehow finding the offense and the ability to win when they need it the most.
Is it too little too late? Maybe. But as it stands, there's no E next to our name.
And until Philadelphia loses tonight or wins, there will be no change to that elimination number.
which is still currently at two, right? If Philly wins tonight, then that elimination number
does get reduced down to one, but the Diamondbacks are still alive and still have a chance
heading into the final series of the season to somehow miraculously make the postseason.
And they wiped the floor with the Rockies today. Unfortunately, the bullpen couldn't hold things
down late. It required Tori Lavolo to turn to some other arms, including bringing Kevin Ginkle
and a ninth, which I'm sure he didn't want to do.
But they did tie a franchise record with six runs scored in the first inning
before they recorded their first out.
And they held off the Rockies for a 12 to 8 victory.
Eduardo Rodriguez gave them a quality start, even though he gave up a lot of hits.
And the Diamondback's offense was explosive today.
And it all started once again with another huge first inning.
It started actually with Lars Neubar, who had himself a tremendous day.
He had a lead-off single and then a Cattel Marte-Walk put two runners on for Gabriel Moreno,
who sent a home run ball 416 feet to left field, 105.6 mile per hour off his bat.
That was a three-run home run that put the Diamondbacks up, three to nothing right away in the first inning.
That was also Gabriel Moreno's 16th home run of the year and another hit for Gabby.
cannot say enough about the fact that Gabby is currently engaged in the fight for a batting title in the National League.
Just a few batting average points behind Luis Arise.
And he ends today with a 308 batting average and an 870 OPS after going one for six with three RBI.
And that home run was his sole hit of the day.
But that wasn't the sole hit of the first inning.
That wasn't the end of things for the first ending.
Heraldo Perdomo with the bases cleared, hit his eighth triple of the year,
and then was brought home by a Pavan Smith RBI single that put the snakes up 4 to nothing.
Then Nolan Arnato got in the fun because, as you know, he loves to terrorize his former team there in Colorado.
He got in on the fun with his 29th home run.
Team leading 29th home run of the season that scored Pavin and increased the lead to 6 to nothing on the two run shot.
That one was 419 feet to left center field, and that was 102.5 miles.
per hour exit below.
This was an incredible first inning.
The Diamondbacks were up six to nothing.
Corby and Carol walked and then the Rockies were finally able to record their first outs of the
inning, finally getting out of the inning.
But all of that, including Carol's walk, that was all registered before the Rockies were
able to get their first out in the first inning.
And the D-back six runs in the first inning before recording their first out tied a franchise
all-time record with a time they also did it against the Rockies in Colorado back on April 28th,
2010.
Quite a day here offensively for the Diamondbacks, and it was just a hell of a start here for a team
that needed once again to win this game and win every game.
We talked about their schedule.
We talked about what's ahead of them.
We talked about how unlikely it is that they made the playoffs.
But it all started with them pulling off an unlikely situation.
sweep of the Colorado Rockies for just their fifth sweep of 2026.
Now they have to pull off a sixth sweep.
And should they do that, we're going to be here on this program bringing you
postseason coverage of the Arizona Diamondbacks in the wildcard round.
Goose bumps, Derek.
Goose bumps.
It's unbelievable.
It's also kind of unbelievable that they're playing this well and that they're in this
position, yet, you know, they, they've kind of fumbled on their way here. And I believe
Jacob Franklin said it in the live chat, but, you know, how often if the Diamondbacks do end up
winning 88 games, how often does 88 games not get you into the postseason? Feels like when that
happens, it happens to us. I was what to say. When it happens, it's only the Diamondbacks that it
happens to. It's incredible. For sure. But again, the 12 runs scored today. It's great to say. It's great to
see them get on some sort of, you know, get in a groove, getting a rhythm, get this offense going
in a way that really it hasn't gotten going all season long. This five game winning streak
ties a season high five game winning streak that they set back in May. This is the most games
that they've won in a row all season long. So it's a good time to do it. It was a good time
to keep that offense hot. The debaq scored more runs in the second, fourth, fifth, and sixth inning
of this game. Marte had an RBI double in the second that scored Lars Newtbar, who once again
got on with a lead off single. That put Arizona up seven to nothing. Marte would move to third base
on a flyout by Gabriel Moreno and then he would score on a Perdomo RBI single. That would push the lead
to eight to nothing. In the fourth inning, Perdomo, who was a huge contributor today,
walk to lead off the inning, and then Pavin got another RBI with a double that scored Domo and
increased the lead to nine nothing. And then James McCann would bring Pavin home with a one out
RBI single that pushed the lead to double digits at 10 to nothing.
The Rockies would get a run in the bottom of the fourth and then in the fifth,
Nolan would get another RBI this time a single that scored Perdomo to make it 11 to 1.
And then in the sixth inning, James McCann hit a solo home run to give the DBAX their 12th run of this game.
That was his sixth home run of the year.
It went 401 feet left field and 108.7 miles per hour off his bat.
yet somehow being up by a score of 12 to 1 and eventually 12 to 2 in the bottom of the 6th inning
was not enough to make this game a comfortable win.
That's why you look at that end score and see it's 12 to 8.
Some of you may have left this game in the fifth inning and come back to wonder,
what the hell happened?
How is it 12 to 8?
I know Damon is one of those people because the,
The sixth inning is the exact moment when Damon left to go host his stupid college football basketball podcast thing that he does.
Man, tell me how you really feel about what I care about.
Disgusted with you.
You just get up and let them score that many runs on us.
How dare you, Damon?
But yeah, no, it did.
It did coincide directly.
Don't I get credit for the team winning, though, when I was sitting there watching the game?
Yeah, Damon very much did come back to save us.
Maybe I'm just a glass half full guy.
Connor might be the new max.
just as far as bringing bad luck to this team.
I hate that too because Connor did a delightful job
hosting or co-hosting the watch along with me.
In fact, I've never gotten a chance to work with Connor
in any capacity as far as doing a show or content.
He killed it.
We might be wasting this guy being in the sales department.
He might need to have a mic in front of his face.
But not when the Diamondbacks are playing
because he's bad luck and he's a bad guy
and he's forever forbidden from our watchalongs.
We'll get to what the pitching staff.
did here shortly and what Connor did.
Most importantly, we got to give flowers to all of these guys that had themselves big days
today.
And in fact, Tori started pulling guys out of the lineup.
We saw Ryan Walschman get in there for the first time since September 16th.
Starting to put his face on Melkartens he was missing.
He grew a beard.
He did.
In the time that he, since we last saw him, he grew a beard.
He has a different haircut.
Congrats to Ryan Walshman.
Somehow changed his number.
Like, it's been ages since we've seen Ryan Walsh.
He actually did grow a beard, though, which is kind of insane.
We didn't even see him go through the process.
No.
Slightly growing it out.
No.
We saw none of it.
He was clean-shaven and then boom, beer.
Literally.
Next time we see him.
Like, literally, that's exactly what happened.
He could have.
The police would have taken a report on him by now.
If we would have called the police to be like, we're worried about our friend Ryan.
He got into the game.
So did Jose Fernandez.
So did Ilmar and Vargas.
The Tori started pulling people out.
And then when the Rocky started scoring the way they did against the bulls,
bullpen, he might have regretted pulling those guys out. But regardless, Lars
Newtbar today had himself a great day. Three for six today for Lars with two runs scored.
Cotel Marte was one for two with two runs scored in RBI. He had two walks and a double,
a very, very patient day at the plate for Marte. You had Geraldo Perdomo contributing in a huge way.
He went three for five with three runs scored, an RBI of his own, a walk and that triple.
But again, our man of the match, our big king snake today,
is the man that continues to go to Colorado and get superpowers from the purple mountain majesty,
the same way that Superman does from our yellow sun.
It is Nolan Aronado, who once again had a multi-hit day in Colorado going three for five
with a home run, three RBI, and a run scored.
And also, again, 29 home runs for Aronado.
leading the Arizona Diamondbacks as a team.
I don't know why I get stuck on that so much.
I guess I'm just kind of fascinated by it.
Like,
I feel like I wasn't even paying attention to the fact that Nolan
was comfortably in the lead for home runs until I, like,
looked around.
It was like, oh, wait, it's not even close.
It's not like we have, you know, five or six guys
that all have mid-20 home runs.
No, no, no.
No, Nolan is, in fact, our best home run hitter of the year.
And I mean, when you talk about the acquisition of Arnado, what the Diamondbacks got him for, what he has done and what he's contributed to this team, I mean, it's probably a toss-up between him and Michael Soroka as far as the best values and biggest impact.
I would say Aronados is a little bit bigger because he costs the Diamondbacks less than Soroka, even though Soroka was only on a $7.5 million deal.
And he plays practically every single day, whereas Soroka missed a substantial amount of time and still as a starting pitcher only pitches every four.
five days. I commend
Mike Hazen for these pickups. There's also
some moves that weren't so great involving bringing back
Zach Allen and Merrill Kelly, for instance, who really haven't worked out for this
team. But I feel at times like the budget acquisitions
that he made are very, very valuable to this team. It's just
unfortunate that the other moves he made are the reasons why they didn't have any
money to spend, if that is fair to say. But
overall the diamond backs are finding themselves in a great position now at least to still be alive
still have hopefully by the end of tonight that two number under next to the e on their name you know
having two games until they are eliminated from playoff contention and giving them just a little bit
of breathing room this weekend to perhaps tie either the Padres or the Phillies for the final
wild card spot we're going to take a look at all of that stuff here in a moment
In fact, we're going to talk about the day Eduardo Rodriguez had
and the not-so-great day that the bullpen had late in this one.
Probably one of the worst performances we've seen out of the bullpen,
and it just so happened to be on a day where they could afford them having one of their worst performances.
We're going to talk about all of that on the other side of this break.
Don't you go anywhere?
You're watching the pH next Diamondback Show.
And Draft Kings is here to make football season more exciting.

And with Draft King's live betting, your next pick can change right along with it.
Plus, you can get extra protection with early exit.
Again, if you guys want to know who's going to get injured this week in the NFL, I will go ahead and post my fantasy football lineup.
and then you could just determine which guys from that lineup are going to be the ones that are injured.
Actually, you could cross-reference my lineup with Damon's lineup from his other league,
and you're definitely going to figure out who's going to be injured.
But if you opt in and if your player leaves the game with an eligible injury in the first half,
your bet is protected with early exit.

I'll tell you I'm stopping by Circle K on my way home because I need myself a drink.
I've been sipping on this water all day long and it's not enough.
It's not enough.
I know it's getting late in the day, but I think I might need a little energy pick me up.
Or at the very least, I might need myself a six pack of beer.
And that's all stuff I can get in Circle K.

Can't wait.
Can't wait. I'm going to do so much extra driving that week, just because I'm saving 40 cents
off per gallon. I want to be able to come back a couple of times and fill up.
I'm actually fired up about Inner Circle Fuel Week.
Oh, it's something we've needed in our lives so much. And of course, again, October 8th

Do you guys have like mayor conferences that you go to?
Yeah, like Las Vegas where we all meet up at the Venetian.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, there's those.
There's also local like mayoral get-togethers.
It's like a cocktail party where all of us.
mayors get together and kind of chit-chat, talk about like mayoral duties, things that are changing
in government policies and such popular changes to mayoral styles. We're very big on the clothing
styles that mayors should wear. In fact, I've been a big proponent of bringing back like the mayor
Quimby style like sash and suit. Yeah. And Kate Gallegos is very much against it. She hates it.
But I'll tell you. You guys butt heads a lot. We don't get along. We definitely don't get along.
but someone I do get along with very much is Eduardo Rodriguez,
and I still want to be invited to the Domino's game at least one time.
But Erod wasn't perfect today.
He gave up a lot of hits, but he did minimize the damage
by only allowing two earned runs and six innings
and giving the Diamondback something that he's given them quite a bit this season,
which is another quality start.
And more importantly, Damon, Erod made it through the first without giving up any runs.
Let's go!
You had to know that was a win right there.
I mean, sure, he was up six to nothing,
so I'm sure it made it a little bit easier for him to get through that first inning without allowing any runs.
But still, nonetheless, something that he has not done very often this year has been make it through the first without giving up any runs.
It wasn't a perfect first inning.
He did give up a lead-off single to one Jake McCarthy who needs a haircut, but he did not hurt us at all in any way, shape, or form.
Then he came back out, gave up another lead-off single in the second inning to Cole Carrig, but then got another three outs and did.
did not let any of those base runners hurt them.
This time in the third inning gave up a two-out single.
This is how his day went.
A lot of singles, a lot of hits kind of scattered around,
but for the most part,
not too many that put them into trouble.
Though in the fourth inning was his first real jam
where he gave up three singles in a row to lead off the inning.
It was to Rumfield, Carrig, and Caros.
And then Brett Sullivan grounded into a force out
to bring in the Colorado Rockies first run.
And then credit to Eroddy,
He gets a strike out of Jordan Beck and then gets Ezekiel Tovar to fly out and keeps those bases.
Essentially, I mean, he did load the bases, but he only allowed one run to plate.
And I think that's pretty impressive considering that it was a bases loaded no-out situation.
And we're in Colorado, right?
Like I felt like that moment was just begging for a grand slam and to make this game,
which was still fairly out of control at the time.
I mean, it was 10 to nothing at this point in the fourth inning.
but they did score that one run and they chipped away at the lead and that's kind of what they did
for the rest of this game.
Though they didn't get very much against Erod.
In the fifth inning with one out, Connor Norby doubled and then he ended up getting stranded
at second base.
And then in the sixth inning, he did give up a home run to Kyle Carros, which was his 13th of the
year, to make it a 12 to 2 baseball game at the time.
But again, got through the remainder of that inning and left the game.
with things fairly in hand.
The Diamondbacks were up 12 to 2 when Erod exited,
and he had himself, again, a decent day,
a day more like what we've seen from this team
throughout this season where he didn't have a lot of strikeouts,
but he did minimize the damage,
and he did give up some soft contact in this one, right?
And let's take a look here at his pitch chart
to see exactly what he was doing in this game.
He did, once again, turn to his four seam
and his change up as his primary pitches.
His four seam was going pretty well,
but he didn't really have much on it.
His average was down from, I think he was averaging around what his max out was.
He maxed out at 93.1 miles per hour.
He averaged around that this year,
but today he averaged 91.3.
So his fastball velo was way down,
but he did go with that four seam fastball.
As you can see here with those red dots as his primary pitch,
he threw that nearly 40% of the outing at 37% and got three whiffs on it.
He also went to his changeup that has been very good all year,
24% usage on that and three swings and misses with the change up.
He got one whiff with the cutter, which he threw 22% of the time.
And then the biggest anomaly is his curveball, you have five whiffs today.
You only threw it 16% of the outing, but it was effective.
And he was keeping batters off balance with it,
especially considering how it kind of complemented the fact.
fastball today. He was able to keep the fastball up in the zone. I mean, obviously you can see here,
there's plenty of red dots there in the middle and lower part of the zone, but the majority of
his fastballs he kept up, kept up. And the majority of his curve balls, he kept kind of diving down and
out of the zone. And it is, uh, it, it, it was working for him. But again, he didn't throw it very much.
And he didn't get a lot of strikeouts on the day. Just three strikeouts against the Rockies today for
Erod. And overall, though, a good day aside from the amount of hits that he gave up.
He pitched six innings.
He gave up nine hits, two earned runs, zero walks, and three strikeouts.
So again, the Circle K strikeout meter, I will always defend the Circle K strikeout meter
that it deserves better.
But still, three strikeouts today is a snack, I guess, for the Circle K strikeout meter.
The Circle K strikeout meter is rebelling on us right now, Derek.
He just refuses to show up.
Yeah, literally refuse to show up for work today.
I get it.
I get it.
I mean, I don't.
Let me see if we can have a conversation behind closed doors.
Let me tell you, if the Diamondbacks would have lost this baseball game,
I would have refused to show up for work.
I wouldn't be sitting here in front of you right now.
And after Erod left, that became a very real possibility.
And probably would have been the most damning indictment of this team this year.
In fact, the bullpen giving up six earned runs after Erod left is,
I mean, quite possibly the worst outing of the year
on a day when their offense
was having one of the best games of the year.
And I don't really know what to say
other than maybe it was just the fact that we had so much wiggle room
that they weren't really taking this as seriously as they should.
I don't really know.
But Dennis Santana, who's been an excellent find
for the Diamondbacks, came into this game,
immediately gave up a double to Zach Vien,
who probably was responsible single-handedly
for the Diamondbacks win in game two.
Then he gave up a one-out single to Hunter Goodman
that scored Vien and made this a 12-3 game.
Then he walked T.J. Rumfield.
Then he gave up a three-run home run to Cole Carrig
that cut the lead in half to 12-6.
Then after a brief mound visit
that involved Dennis Santana staying in the game,
he did get Kyle, he did get Kyle Caros to ground out.
He gave up a single to Braxton Fulford,
but then he got Jordan Beck to strike out swinging to end the inning.
And Dennis Santana and his inning of work gave up four hits,
four earned runs, walked one, got one strike out,
and gave up one home run.
It was a disaster.
But luckily the Diamondbacks had a 12 run day,
so it was merely now a six-run lead instead of a 10-run lead.
But Taylor Clark,
who I was talking about on the watch-along is incredibly overused this season,
came into the game, got a strikeout of Ezekiel Tovar,
and things looked good until they didn't.
Because he gave up a solo home run to Zach Veen, which was his third of the year.
Then he gave up a double to Adiel Amador.
Then he gave up a, or got Hunter Goodman to line out for the second out of the inning.
And again, things weren't terrible yet.
But then T.J. Rumfield hit a double.
that scored Amador.
Then you got Cole Carrig singling.
And then you got Kyle Caros finally flying out to Ryan Waldschmidt on a ball, Damon, that was what, a home run in like almost all the ballparks in baseball?
Ernesto said 16 out of 30 during our watch along.
Too many.
Yeah.
Too many ballparks.
That was a whole lot.
I couldn't even imagine that.
Couldn't even imagine that because, again, that would have been a three run home run.
that would have literally made it a 12 to 11 baseball game.
Unacceptable.
I mean, in general, I still kind of find this situation to be unacceptable.
But at this point in the season, and with how important every single win is,
I cannot sit here and gripe about this not being a big enough victory
or the Diamondbacks not holding the Colorado to a few enough runs.
It just felt like this game would have been.
been the backbreaker.
This would have been the season-ending game.
And you just can't help but feel like, you know,
feel thankful that the Diamondbacks were able to put up those six
first-inning runs.
Because if not, we'd probably be sitting here talking about a season-ending
eight to four, eight-to-six win here by the Rockies.
But we didn't, we don't have that.
Instead, what we had was Kevin Ginkle coming down and shutting the door
and being the excellent pitcher that Kevin Ginkle has been.
Now, I will say Kevin Gingles in the same spot as Taylor Clark,
but I'm not joking.
Like, you don't really want your relievers ever going over 70 innings pitched.
And now Taylor Clark this season is at 72 and a third innings pitch,
which could be a reason why he hasn't been very good lately,
even though he still has a, what was it, 2.68, ERA, Damon?
2.86.
2.86.
Got a little dyslexic on us for a second.
That'll happen.
will happen. But meanwhile, Kevin Ginkle
this year, he is now at 66
and two-thirds innings pitched, and he
also is... He looked good, though.
Yeah, I mean, I know. Mowed him down.
I know. No aura.
No-ora. I couldn't believe
the no-ora comment. Also,
let me tell you, I'm just going to put this out
there, and this goes to a specific few
people that might be over on the other show right now
watching Jesse and Jack do their thing.
I don't know where they're at, but if you are
one of these people that come here
to this show, only
after losses to only complain about the things you don't like and you don't think went wrong in
this baseball game.
And you're not here after literally the biggest win of the season for this team because
every win at this point is the biggest win of the season.
Then I think you're a fraudulent fan.
For sure.
I think that right now about a few guys that are only here to bitch and moan about the bad
things that this team did, including guys being in our live watch along.
and just almost rooting for the Diamondbacks to lose.
Not even almost.
In fact, losing.
Just rooting, straight up rooting for it.
It's pretty nuts, man.
If you can't enjoy this, I don't know what you can enjoy.
A hundred percent, man.
I mean, again, I don't mind that people want to be here to vent.
That's what we want you here.
This is therapy when the Diamondbacks lose.
This is the place we want to all come together.
For sure.
But I also think that if you are the only,
if you're the kind of person that only shows up for losses,
I'm not, if you're a person that only shows up for wins, I understand you and I don't even blame you.
I'm not going to lie.
You don't, if you don't show up here.
That's what Derek would do if he, if he wasn't hosting this show.
He knows it.
And that's true.
It's not even a joke.
It's not even a joke.
I wouldn't have anything to do with this baseball game at a team after losses if I had my own
choice about it.
Right.
But what I will say is when it comes to the losses, if all you show up for is the losses, then I think
you're kind of a loser.
And I think those two things go hand in hand because you obviously love to be miserable
and you want to be here just to I told you so the situation and scream for Tori to be fired
instead of enjoying the moments where they win on days like this and give themselves an opportunity
to maybe make the postseason, maybe make something fun and exciting happen.
But is what it is.
Those people know who they are and they know they're losers.
but this team not losers.
Edwardo Rodriguez is not a loser.
Kevin Ginkle not a loser.
This team somehow found a way to step up and win five in a row when it really mattered.
Now the real work starts, right?
This is, this was nice and all, but now the real work starts.
They have a three game series where they have to win every game against the Padres.
And should they do that, if the Phillies lose tonight and the Polly's,
Audres lose tonight, then
Diamondbacks are in, one way or another.
They just need to literally win the next three games.
And Joe Ross definitely a loser.
You guys are right about that.
Man, Joe Ross taking strays.
And game 159.
Yeah. Unbelievable.
I mean, he deserves it.
The Brewers, the Brewers, Phillies game right now,
currently 1-1 at the end of the fifth inning.
All right.
You're telling me,
there's a chance still.
And again, even if the Phillies win tonight, it's still not over.
Diamondbacks have a chance.
It's just the margins get very slim after that.
The Diamondbacks would need to win every game.
Phillies would need to lose every game.
If the Padres win tonight, it's over for that route.
So at that point, it just becomes the sole focus of everybody in the state of Arizona
rooting against the Phillies.
That's what we need.
And that's what I'm going to do.
We've been here before.
Yeah, this isn't the first time.
I've done that.
Faddy Schroeder, again, one of my favorite names in the chat says,
you're doing another watch-along tomorrow for the Padres game.
In fact, we're not doing anything for the Padres game tomorrow.
We're abandoning ship altogether.
I'm going to go drive on a NASCAR track,
and Damon's going to go watch people get married.
But should the Diamondbacks have something season altering happen,
we will be back with an emergency podcast after tomorrow's game,
and then we'll be with you all weekend long.
We do have a post-game show scheduled for game 162 on Sunday.
day. So that will be the next time we're doing a scheduled postgame show after today. But in between
now and then, we are very loose about when we might be doing some stuff. But don't worry,
we'll be here for you regardless. In a way, the bullpen wasn't here for us today. I had to take a
shot. But anyway, we're going to take a look at the numbers from this series. And then we're also going to
take a look at how things break down in this National League wildcard race. Don't you go anywhere.

All right, Damon.
Well, we got a weird series here to look at when it comes to buy the numbers.
And I mean, this one kind of gets a little out of control when it comes to the offense,
specifically by the Diamondbacks in this series.
Diamondbacks score 24 runs in the three games against the Colorado Rockies.
They outscore them 24.
to 13, they out hit them
39 to 27.
Both teams had five home
runs because ha, baseball.
The Diamondbacks were
12 for 34
with runners in scoring position in the
series for a 353 batting average.
That was aided quite a bit today
by their six for 15 day.
They were also three for five yesterday
and Monday was typical Diamondbacks
risk performance going three for 14.
Meanwhile, the Rockies were 0 for 2
with runners in scoring position in game one.
0 for 6 with runners in scoring position yesterday
and today, especially with that late rally,
5 for 13. They were 5 for 21.
Their only hits with runners in scoring position came today in this game.
They had a 238 batting average in the series.
Meanwhile, starting pitching ERA, very good for the Diamondbacks 2.45ERA.
Quality starts in game one in game three,
and then there in the middle, Merrill Kelly gave the Diamondbacks five in a third innings
and two earned runs.
He was close to getting there for a third.
quality start but unfortunately couldn't get it done they did bring in jmark to close that inning
and jmart once again remains pristine as far as allowing earn runs knock on wood the rockies meanwhile
also had a pretty good starting e ra recovering nicely after you know that that oh wait no no no no no
no no this uh this this this this this that a is completely wrong i knew it was off that's my bad i
forgot to transfer uh basically a one over there david so and and i'm taking
the heat on this one. This one's not on Damon, but I'm going to recalculate this because their
ERA deserves what it actually is, and that ERA is 10.95 for the starting pitchers in this one.
Their bullpen was much better, but the Rockies did give up three or five earned runs in game
one in three innings pitched, and then 10 earn runs today in three and a third. So there was no way
that was 3.65. And again, my bet. As you know, I'm not good at math and stuff sometimes. But 10.95 for
the starting pitching ERA for the Rockies.
And then bullpen ERA, not great for the Diamondbacks due to the six runs allowed today.
Meanwhile, the Rockies, they've been fine.
In fact, they've actually, they got a lot of innings in due to the relievers not going very long.
So six innings today for the bullpen with two, excuse me, six innings in the first game with two runs allowed.
And then today, five and two thirds, innings pitched by the bullpen and two more earned runs allowed.
There it is, man. Big series win for the Diamondbacks. They pull off the sweep of the Rockies. Again, just their fifth sweep of the Rockies, or excuse me, their fifth sweep of the season and their first sweep of the Rockies in Colorado at Coorsfield since 2018.
That's so wild.
It just, that doesn't even make sense. Like I said, if it was any American league team, I would be fine with it. But a national league team in our
division and it's the first time we've swept them since 2018 not to mention the fact not to kick
more dirt on their name but it's the rockies right i mean just kind of on average the worst team in
our division and yet still here we are the first time in eight years the diamondbacks have pulled
the sweep off over the rockies in colorado let's take a look at how this impacts the wildcard
race overall here right we have the chicago cubs winning today and unfortunately
with the win, the Chicago Cubs have now secured a playoff spot.
The reason why is because they could still end up tied with the Diamondbacks,
but the Cubs hold the tiebreaker over the debacks,
whereas the Padres do not have that right now,
and the Phillies are tied with the Diamondbacks.
So as far as the other two teams are concerned,
the Diamondbacks have a better divisional record than the Phillies,
and there's no more games against each other.
So if the Diamondbacks and Phillies end up tied with the same record
at the end of the year, the Diamondbacks are in the playoffs.
Same thing with the Padres, because in order to get there,
the Diamondbacks would essentially have to sweep the Padres in the final year or final
season, series of the year.
And that would allow the Diamondbacks to have the series over the Padres for the year,
and that would put them in the postseason over the Padres.
And this is where we're at.
It sucks.
It sucks to need this many wins.
it sucks to need to be perfect in order to get into the postseason.
The Diamondbacks have put themselves in this position
by not playing perfect baseball at times
where they could have made this much easier on themselves.
Losing the series at home to the Rangers
and losing the subsequent series to the Marlins
felt like the back breakers for this season.
But as our guy, Coach Henry says,
crazy or shit has happened,
especially when it comes to just winning, you know,
six games down the stretch in order to get in.
They made a whole movie about that athletics team,
if you don't remember,
and how many games they want to do what they did.
But as unlikely as this seems,
I think the one thing I will implore fans to remember
is that at the very least,
we are here in the final series of the year
playing for the postseason.
I mean, this is basically a postseason series now at this point.
This is kind of a must win.
If the Phillies lose tonight, then the Diamondbacks can actually afford to lose one more game.
It's another reason why the Phillies losing tonight is very important.
The Diamondbacks, if the Phillies lose tonight, the Diamondbacks don't even need to sweep the Padres in order to get into the playoffs.
They simply need to match the Phillies record or they need to match the Padres record.
Right now, the Padres are three games up on the Diamondback,
so the only way to do that is by sweeping them.
But the Phillies, the Phillies lose tonight,
then we don't even need to be perfect to make it into the postseason.
We merely need to win the series against the Padres.
And even that seems like a tall task.
I'm not going to lie.
That's no walk in the park with how good the Padres have been playing.
Wouldn't it be great, though, for now to be.
be the time when they finally came back down earth after playing such good baseball for the last
like month, I do feel like this would be just the sweetest best time for them to somehow find a way
to lose four games in a row. Maybe it happens, but I kind of have a vested interest in the,
in the Phillies a little bit here. David knows why. Derek, that would be so special for you in particular.
I don't want to talk about it, but I think those of you that are
regular viewers of the show probably know what.
We would get nasty in the all-city group chat.
Oh, in the all-city group chat. Oh, yeah.
Like to a point where they'd be like, oh, that was kind of mean.
What's those guys' deal?
It's going to be bad.
And now we have word according to people in the chat that Luis Sarize is injured.
And Rollafati is, I think, putting some work out there.
He said Casey Mies' perfect game.
I don't know how that can be possible considering the Brewers have a run, but.
Isn't Casey Mize on the Padres?
Oh, yeah, duh.
Yeah, you're right.
I'm sorry.
I was thinking about Brewers.
Duh.
I get it.
We're all thinking about brewers.
Let's not have Casey Mize have a perfect game.
Can we not?
Or no, he's just throwing it out there.
Are you just reverse jinks?
Maybe he's trying to reverse jinks it.
Early on?
All right.
I get, I did that.
Get out ahead of it.
Yeah, I appreciate it.
It's Tyler Glass.
for all the marbles.
Hopefully Otani remembers how to play baseball tonight.
Who knows?
Anyway, we're going to take a quick break.
And on the other side of that break,
we are going to actually preview the series

Damon, what time is it?
Game time?
It is game time.
All right.
Well, we have the biggest series of the year.
And I just,
I kind of find it hilarious because,
Damon and I have been talking about this three-game series with the Padres since the season started.
I don't know if we were 100% sure it was going to come down to this series,
but we did know that once again we played the Padres for the final series of the year for what,
the third season in a row?
We knew it was going to come down to that, Derek.
We don't need to keep dancing around it.
We absolutely knew.
Everyone knew.
Everyone on Earth knew.
Padres fans knew.
Brother, you are in line.
And yet here we are with this actually happening,
with the season actually on the line.
I don't know which way I would prefer.
I mean, I feel like as it stands right now,
the easiest path to the postseason for the Diamondbacks
is for the Phillies to lose tonight
and the Phillies to lose two out of three this weekend
and the Diamondbacks to win two out of three
against the Padre's team that clinches their wildcard.
spot tonight with a win over the Dodgers.
I know that doesn't sound great because that reduces the Diamondbacks path to the playoffs
down to one singular road, which is essentially taking the Philadelphia Phillies playoff spot.
But as it stands, the Padres need to lose tonight just for the Diamondbacks to have a chance
and that chance would require them to sweep the Padres.
If the Phillies lose tonight, the Diamondbacks just merely have to win that series and there
might be, might be. Not going to guarantee it because there's three games left to play. So
there's a good chance that most of these teams aren't going to alter their lineup too much for the
final series of the year before they add into the postseason. They want guys to stay hot. They
want guys to stay on a roll. But there's a slight chance that we might get some sort of
advantage in playing the Padres who have already clinched a playoff spot rather than a Padres team
that is still fighting for their playoff lives. I feel like that's pretty fair to say.
It's certainly something worth talking about.
I don't know if it's the best path for the diamondbacks,
but it's worthy of the conversation for sure.
Well, it's the best path because they have to sweep the Padres
if that's what they're looking to accomplish, right?
That's why I mean it.
Whereas if the Phillies lose tonight,
they don't have to sweep the Padres.
They merely have to win two out of three
and the Phillies need to lose two out of three.
Or they sweep the Padres
and the Phillies win two out of three
and we still are in.
So that's the only reason why I feel like that
has a little bit more wiggle room
considering that we're currently
three games behind the Padres
and just two games or two and a half behind the Phillies.
I don't think you're wrong.
I mean, there's no way of proving, I guess.
The other one's going to be in the multiverse
that we don't exist in whatever doesn't end up happening.
But I do think that it's worth talking about,
but I just want to beat the hell out of the Padres
and make it not matter.
I want the Dodgers to get us, do us a solid tonight, and then the pressure starts to mount in San Diego a little bit.
That's true.
And that's another thing that is not really being accounted for here in these scenarios that I'm discussing is the fact that if the Padres lose tonight,
now their backs are against the wall and they're playing a hot Diamondbacks team that's coming in with kind of nothing to lose at this point,
because we've already kind of chalked up this season to being a loss as far as making the postseason.
and just maybe that pressure being applied to the Padres
is enough for us to sweep that series.
Let's take a look at how the Diamondbacks match up
with the Padres for that final series of the season here
with our Draft Kings matchup breakdown here.
The Diamondbacks, again, here, have a record of 85 and 74.
The Padres, meanwhile, are 88 and 70.
You have the Padres with a 3.94 team ERA,
but a lot of that comes from their bullpen
and a 716 team OPS, which is 17th in baseball.
Oddly enough, the debacks are right behind them at 715,
because baseball is hilarious this way.
Padre's 17th best OPS, Diamondbacks, 18th best OPS.
Diamondbacks are tied for the 12th best ERA in baseball,
and the Padres have the 10th best.
Then outs above average, the Diamondbacks are still the second best team
defensively with 43 outs above average to the Padres, 17,
which is tied for 7.
When it comes to their breakdown of their ERAs, though, the Padres pitching staff, their starters, have a 4.40 starting pitching ERA, which is 21st in MLB.
And their bullpen featuring Mason Miller is a 3.46 ERA, which is fifth.
So there we go.
Don't want to let it get down to the bullpen is essentially what we can take out of that.
Mason Miller, if you're in the ninth against him, it's going to feel like it's probably game over.
You know, if it's one of these scenarios where the debacks have to win and Mason Miller's running out of the pen in the ninth inning with a full crowd in San Diego going crazy, that's not a spot you want to be in. Keep doing what you've been doing.
Not at all. Keep stacking runs in the early innings of these baseball games and put the gas, you know, put the pedal to the metal, make the opposition have to fight back all game long.
Like, you know, today, like the Rockies obviously did come.
kind of fight back, but you had built up such a lead that it didn't matter.
There are people in the chat telling me, Stanley says, Derek, that's not true or that's not
true, Derek. Chadley, it's so much, says Derek, if we lose one games, Phillies has to lose out.
No, no, that's, if the Phillies lose tonight and the Diamondbacks, the Diamondbacks currently
are two and a half games behind Philadelphia, are they not?
Yeah, we're two back of the Phillies if we, right, and we have the tiebreaker.
And we have the tiebreaker.
Yeah.
So you guys are talking about the Diamondbacks having a better record than the Phillies.
I'm talking about them ending the season tied with the Phillies.
If they end the season tied with the Phillies, they are in.
If they end the season tied with the Padres after this series come up, it comes up, they're in.
Because that means they won the season series against the Padres.
And the season series with the Phillies is tied.
And it goes to divisional record.
Am I wrong about this?
Please let me know.
I believe you're right, Derek.
Okay. But that's why I was saying that as far as I'm on the same page as you.
Okay. And that doesn't happen very often because we don't like each other like that.
Not not very much.
Yeah. But again, it really just comes down to those how ending up the season tied.
If the Diamondbacks end up tied with the Cubs, the Cubs advance because the Cubs have the season series against Diamondbacks.
So that's why the Cubs clinched. That's why the Padres haven't clinched.
And the Padres do clinch a spot if they win against the Dodgers tonight.
So if that's the case, then the Diamondbacks, again, just have the one path in.
There was also a discussion here about the Padres playing for seating.
You're right about that.
So yeah, they don't really have a reason.
Again, I don't think any teams have a reason to not play.
Sand the Suns fan again, another person trying to tell us that we're wrong.
Down there at the bomb, if they go one and two, we all go two and one.
The Phillies are playing right now.
The game is not over.
So this is all contingent on the Phillies losing tonight.
right well i guess what he's saying then we'd only if we go two and one the phillies go one and two
in the final three games then we only game back one game and we'd be down two games so we if we go
two and one and one and two and we go three and oh and we're down two games then that's i mean winning
playing winning winning out yeah you're right winning out is is but yeah the debacks do have to kind of
went out pretty much no matter what i guess i guess my math is off on that i i felt like if we've tied
the fillies right but we have to win all three games to tie the fillies if they go one and two
if they go oh and three we can go two and one and if if if if they go two and one that's where that's
probably where i got to have enough uh you know yeah okay i see we're yeah we're two games back right now
so yes it's the oh my my bad my bad my bad you know what i'm
what, Sam, you're right.
Sam wins.
Sam wins.
Right, right, right, right.
I think I was thinking more of that the Diamondbacks do have a path here if they go,
if they go two and one, but that would require the Phillies to be swept is what it would be.
And they would also require them to lose this game right now, right?
So that's the only way that they can go two and one is if the Phillies get swept in the final series.
They can't go one and two.
That's right now.
Sorry, my bet.
That was what we were talking about on the playoff, on the, on the,
on the thing.
Rollafati says end the stream.
Damon, kick him out.
Gone.
I don't want to be told to end the stream.
But let's see here.
We got our probable pitchers for this series,
which again does not have any
probabilities for the Padres because that is going to
change based on
what happens, right?
I mean, that's the reason why the Padres
haven't provided anybody with...
That's probably a good inference
by you.
But I regret to inform you, Derek.
I saw that there was three TBDs and I did not make a probabilities graphic because of said to be determined.
That's true.
Well, the Diamondbacks will send Brandon Fott, Corbin Burns, and Michael Soroka on the mound for the final series.
Let's eat.
It's, I mean, it's kind of unfortunate that it's down to the point where Corbin Burns is the one that I have questions about there.
Right?
That's, that's unfortunate with his 7.84 ERA.
Brandon fought.
Meanwhile, 3.7-2 ERA, 7-3 record.
Feel great about him going in there.
And honestly, I feel really good about Michael Soroka with his 3.31 ERA and 110 strikeouts.
So it's at the very least the guys that we would want going in there.
I think the Diamondbacks would have a day off in between.
And then probably, because I feel like that would be.
based on the way things line up right now,
Merrill Kelly would start game one
if they made it to the postseason.
So I'm guessing that they'll skip Merrill Kelly
and have Eduardo Rodriguez start in game one.
That would give them Eduardo Rodriguez,
Brandon Fought, and Corbyn Burns essentially
in that wild card series.
And yeah, Chadley, I liked my math in the other scenario more too.
I agree.
I definitely agree.
but yeah your math was maybe a little bit more helpful to our cause it was it was just you know what it was that was that it was just the one and two thing with the fillies it's just the fact that the diamondbacks do have one single scenario that they don't have to sweep the podrays but it's not the fillies going one and two it's the fillies getting swept by the raise in the final series so that that's the difference but at the very least there is still one path that that allows them
them to get in by not having to sweep the Padres.
I just don't feel like sweeping the Padres is a very, you know,
it is a very reasonable expectation.
It's not to say it couldn't happen.
I almost feel like, you know, I was,
I was doubting their ability to even sweep the Rockies in this three games series.
And they did that.
But again, they need to sweep.
That's it.
I agree with what you're saying there.
And there's no scenario that you can really leave anything up to anybody else.
So if the Diamondbacks sweep the next three games,
it requires the Phillies to lose tonight, right?
But even then, even if the Phillies win,
there's still three games back.
And if they sweep and the Phillies get swept in the final series at Tampa,
then again, they're in.
There's a few scenarios, but they're very, very small.
And they require the other teams to lose a lot of games.
We did lose one scenario today with,
With the Cubs.
Right.
With the Cubs.
Right.
With their win over the Marlins, which the Marlins had him in the first couple of frames.
It would have been nice to keep all three avenues open.
Because, yeah, we do obviously need a lot of domino effect stuff to go our way here.
And so because of that, you know, it would be nice to have three options rather than just two.
Yeah.
I think that, you know, that's the more chances you can give yourself to kind of hit this lottery that we need to hit.
it would be great.
Yeah.
You're right.
You're right.
You know what?
You still got two.
And let's hope that the Brewers can hold on here.
The Brewers fighting for their 100th win in this game, may I say, Derek?
You know, don't you guys want to hit triple diggies and stunt on the Phillies?
Wow.
Right?
Like, isn't that what it's all, you know, stun on their fans?
Isn't that what it's all about?
Just saying Brewers Nation, but also, you know, the.
We got the race.
We got the Dodgers.
Like, we got some good baseball teams we're rooting for here.
Got to hope that they do us as solid.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And I mean, I like Mordecai's comment as well.
He says, if we can sweep the Dodgers, we can definitely sweep the Padres.
That's certainly true.
It's true.
And the journey is just now noticing the scorebug.
Oh, man.
I switched it out.
Yeah, I don't know how that happened.
I know the right one was up there because I literally switched it out.
Yeah, for sure.
That's it happens.
It's not your fault.
Once again, I'll take the blame for this one like I did earlier.
I'll take the blame on the map.
See, but I'll take the blame for everything.
Now that feels like all of a sudden you're not taking the blame on the thing earlier
because this is clearly my fault.
Right, right, right.
And you were like, you were like, don't worry about it.
That was the other time I did math on this episode.
And it's like, well, the other thing was actually, it was actually your fault.
So I would hope you would take the blame for it.
I'll take the blame for this, though.
All right, fine, fine.
Well, I'm not taking the blame for not doing good math on the wild card stuff.
That's not my fault.
That's their fault.
Somebody in the chat asked about, like, why do we always have to deal with these BS technicalities at the end of the year?
Because we're in the National League.
That's, it's part of that.
Yeah.
It's part of that.
Like, winning, like being 11 games over 500 should be enough at the end of the season to get you in the playoffs.
But it should.
It's not.
You know, it's somehow.
not and I don't really know why this keeps happening to the diamondbacks but it's like it's genuinely
it feels like a curse thing it does it does and uh let's see top g is accusing me of using Steiner math and
again all teams are created equal but you look at the diamond backs you look at the podres and you
can see that's that statement is not true normally when you go one-on-one with another baseball team
you have a 50-50 chance of winning.
But the Diamondbacks are a genetic freak, and they're not normal.
So you got a 25% chance at best of beating them at this point of the year.
But then you add in a third team like the Philadelphia Phillies,
and your chances of winning drastically go down.
You see when the postseason comes around, you got a 33 and a third chance of winning,
and then the Diamondbacks have a 66 and two-thirds chance of winning
because the Phillies being there means that the Phillies know they can't beat
us and that they're not even going to try.
So then you take the Padres 33 and a third chance of winning minus our 25% chance
of winning.
And then you got an eight and a third chance of winning to get into the postseason.
But then you take the Diamondback 75% chance of winning if they were just to go one-on-one
with the Phillies.
And then you add in a 66 and two-third.
I mean, blame.
Blame whoever brought up Steinemath.
This is not my fault.
Anyway, it's got a super chat from Cool Bro who wants Damon.
job once again he says i can run graphics you're right you're right there buddy i actually just heard
some whispers espo talking about bringing you in specifically to replace him yeah uh keep going he also
wants you to get a paven tattoo on your rear end should we make it into the postseason i have
offered up a tattoo on my body damon no tattoos at all damon's body is a temple and he refuses to mark
it up with didn't we and i would love to not to do this too if if it's the case but did
I'm just trying to throw a bone to the baseball gods here.
Did we not offer up Cotell Marte's eyebrow slits?
We absolutely offered up Cotel Marte eyebrows slits.
And I said the chat could pick a tattoo for me.
So we're going to do it.
Derek's doing a tattoo.
We're both doing Cotel Marte eyebrows slits if we make playoffs.
I'm going to get so many questions from the other dads and the drop off line about my eyebrow slits.
They're going to think you're like a hard criminal.
Maybe.
That's exciting.
One more from Cool Bro.
He says, Derek, not in a Dback's hat.
looks so odd. I mean, come on. I was doing Southwest bias today. This is an intercept cancer hat in honor
of world cancer prevention. Nice one, cool, bro. Yeah. Nice one. Do you love cancer? Is that what it is? I don't know. I'm just,
I'm just curious. Apparently he'd rather cancer completes the pass. Well, we appreciate you guys so much
