PHNX Arizona Diamondbacks Podcast - POSTGAME: D-backs SWEEP the Tigers as Zac Gallen OUT PITCHES Tarik Skubal in Win

Episode Date: April 2, 2026

It truly lived up to the hype. A classic pitcher’s duel between Zac Gallen and Tarik Skubal in the series finale between the Arizona Diamondbacks and Detroit Tigers. In a game where every pitch matt...ered, Corbin Carroll’s clutch solo home run proved to be the difference maker, backing a near-flawless outing from Gallen and a lockdown performance from the bullpen. The result was a historic moment for Arizona, securing the franchise’s first-ever series sweep of the Tigers at Chase Field. We break down the dominant pitching on both sides, the D-backs’ defense taking a noticeable leap forward with Jose Fernandez at first base, and why clawing back to .500 feels so significant after a tough opening sweep in Los Angeles. Starting point is 00:00:00 Well, Zach Gallen vanquishes Terrick Scouble for pitching dominance in the state of Arizona, much to the chagrin of the entire population of Kingman. We are talking about the debacks completing their first ever home sweep of the Detroit Tigers today, and we're doing it right now. Skiy and welcome in to another edition of the PHNX Dynaback podcast live from Studio A right here at PHNXHQ. My name is Derek Montia, occasionally known as your mayor, of PA-M-X and I am thrilled, thrilled to be talking about a game that I thought was absolutely going to go sideways on this team once the later innings came and the bullpen came out.
Starting point is 00:00:50 But instead, we are now witnesses to the Diamondbacks beating the Detroit Tigers by a score of one to nothing and winning this game, winning the series, and sweeping the series against the Tigers. I'm not alone. Of course, you guys are here. I got the cactus light. Let's go ahead and turn that boy. bad boy on right now.
Starting point is 00:01:11 There's some talk in the chat about... Bet365 in Game Time? There is some talk in the chat about Bet365. I'm hearing the same thing, Derek. Absolutely. There's no talk about, like, impeaching me, but there's plenty of talk about Bet365, where winning is everything.
Starting point is 00:01:28 Of course, we're brought to you by our friends at Bet365. Download that app today and use code PHNX365 at signup. And we're also brought to you by our friends at GameTime, where you can get tickets to go watch baseball games just like this wonderful game that we got to see. Day game, roof open, panels open, top down, sun out. It was amazing. And, of course, you can get your tickets for less.
Starting point is 00:01:50 If you use that code, download that app and use our code of PHNX to get $20 off your first purchase. I'm not turning this bad guy. This guy stays on the whole time. But I don't have anywhere to put him, so he's going to go on the ground next to me. Welcome in to all of you, thrilled to have you guys here. And, of course, there's weird, again, weird chats. I don't control the emojis. I made promises, but I don't actually control the emojis.
Starting point is 00:02:12 So don't worry, that cactus light emoji will be added ASAP, or I will write it. I will scream. I will throw a tantrum here in the middle of our office. He's not lying. He actually will throw a tantrum. He's been known to do that. It's not very becoming of me, but it gets results, is basically. It does get results.
Starting point is 00:02:29 That's the point. When I kick and scream, things happen. And, of course, I felt like kicking and screaming a little bit about today's game because it did feel, like I said, after watching, you know, this pitching duel between Zach Gallen and Terrick Scoobel, like this game was going to end as heartbreaking as the two of those, at least two of those games in Los Angeles did. Instead, the Diamondbacks found a way to successfully hold on. Their bullpen were filled with certified Gs and bona fide studs, and the Diamondbacks somehow walk out of this game winning by a score of one to nothing. They are suddenly back to
Starting point is 00:03:05 500 and it feels a little bit better after that series sweep in Los Angeles. Still doesn't feel great, but this is a good Detroit Tigers team that did not exactly come in here looking weak. So it's very, very, very good, very positive that they were able to win. But more importantly, they were able to win on a day where Terrick Scoobel was on the mound. And let me tell you, I'm not even joking. There was a crowd, a crowd surrounding the Tigers bullpen today. And that was because one, Terrick Scuba was getting warmed up. And I imagine that the entire city of Kingman was closed down today. Every shop was closed.
Starting point is 00:03:42 Every single business had a little sign out that said, be back after the Tigers win game three. And those people left very sad. And I'm happy. I'm happy that they left sad. A lot of people probably that are both Diamondbacks fans and Terrick Scouble fans. That's a good point. Yeah, I mean, Terik Scoobel, obviously coming from such a small town here is always going to have fans.
Starting point is 00:04:01 But let's hope, let's hope a lot of those. those fans root for us and maybe only root for the Tigers when we are playing each other. But today the Diamondbacks got the best of Terrick Scoobal and even then he was still incredibly, incredibly good. Seven innings pitched by Scoobble, I think six hits allowed, one earned run, but that one earned run by one Corbyn Carole in the form of a solo home run was enough to win this game. And more importantly, I just found this fascinating, this is courtesy of the Diamondbacks
Starting point is 00:04:33 themselves. They recorded their first ever home sweep of the Tigers today. This is the first time they have ever swept the Tigers at Chase Field. And I can't explain that one, but I can say that I'm glad that they were able to finally break through and get that done. It's the fourth sweep all time of the Tigers dating back. And they all happened in June. June 9th through June 11, 2023, June 13th through the 14th. That was 2.0 back in 2017. And then July 27th through July 7th, July 29th, 2003. We're not waiting until the summer gets long here. I'm sorry, not July, June, June 27th through the 29th. We're not waiting until then. We're not waiting until it's hot out to beat them. We did it early this time. And again, it marked the fifth ever shutout of the Tigers and the
Starting point is 00:05:19 second home shutout in Diamondbacks history of the Tigers. But it does mark their 14th all-time win at home by a score of one to nothing, which is something that the Diamondbacks obviously don't do very often. But the story of today was the pitcher's duel and Zach Gallen was incredibly good for the Diamondbacks today. He was, I mean, he was practically perfect and they needed him to be that in order to beat this Tigers team today in game three, right? You look at what he did. He was just outstanding versus the Tigers overall, just but not outpowering. He pitched in the zone. He pitched all over the place. He actually spread his pitches around significantly today. and he kind of just pitched to contact.
Starting point is 00:06:05 He beat the Tigers today without much flash. He did turn to his fastball for the majority of the outing, but just still only 32% usage on his fastball. And as you can see here, he kept that knuckle curve down, which he threw 26% of the outing. And that's something that's key for Zach with that knuckle curve is to get it to look like it's going to drop in the zone,
Starting point is 00:06:28 but for it to continue downward and to land outside of the zone. He didn't get a lot of swing and miss today, but he did get six whiffs and only two strikeouts, but that just once again shows that he wasn't necessarily trying to go out there and strike guys out. He was just trying to pitch to results and get outs, and he did that.
Starting point is 00:06:48 He also used a slider, 23% of the outing, his change up 13%, his cutter 6%, and he threw his sinker one single time. But again, his command on his fastball was, a big reason why he had the success that he had today. And the way that he mixed it up, he just, he really did a good job of mixing his pitches up. He got, again, 88 total pitches today. His four-seem fastball maxed out at 95.9 miles per hour, so he's basically hitting 96.
Starting point is 00:07:19 And most importantly here, Damon, he gave the Diamondbacks a scoreless six-inning start, which is something they just kind of desperately needed here. They needed some length. and in the case of facing Terrick Scuba they needed to be scoreless because obviously he did not give up much and neither did the Tigers bullpen today. They did not implode like they have
Starting point is 00:07:40 at other times during the series. But it's always funny to have a you know, injured or, you know, a situation like this where you have a pitching duel between two pitchers. Like it's still about what the guys out there, you know, were able to do and hats off to scoble because again, that one hit, the one home run by Corby and Carroll there was the difference maker between a win and a loss today. His team did not do much to back him up.
Starting point is 00:08:09 So credit, again, to Zach Galen for going out there and giving the Diamondbacks this kind of outing. Six innings pitch, four hits, zero earn runs, zero walks, and two strikeouts. Really good, Derek. I'm probably, Zach probably deserves King'sank, but I'm just going to tell you now, he didn't get it. He didn't get it. But we could have done another dueling king snake type of situation. I think we could have. Yeah, we had the two, two headed king snake yesterday.
Starting point is 00:08:33 That's not really the name of the game. I almost nixed it, and I'm, I think I'm going to moving forward. We can't do two king snakes. We have to pick one. There can only be one king. Yeah, see, you like, you want me to make tough decisions. Correct. I don't like to make tough decisions.
Starting point is 00:08:46 I mean, but the thing is, is Derek, a lot of the time when I tell you who I think should be king snake, and it's like a debatable one, you vehemently are against me and argue with me until the death of like, I will die for this guy to be king snake over this guy. And I'll be like for my thumbnail headlines. You know that. You, you didn't like taming tigers and I loved it. And I'm still mad at you about that because I thought it was. It was taming tigers. I know. I know. I didn't. But we screamed at each other over it. We did not scream at each other for it. I screamed at you through text messages. Yeah. In my mind, that's me. And then I and then you won. You won the battle. I did win that one. But you know who else won today was the Diamondbacks bullpen. And let's got,
Starting point is 00:09:25 Let's give credit where credit is due, man. This bullpen has actually been good, but just not every part of it, right? That's been the key. It's like we throw the bullpen meme out there. We blame the bullpen for some of these losses. And I mean, rightfully so, you can do that. You can feel free to do so. But I will say that, like in the case of Juan Murillo blowing that game in Los Angeles,
Starting point is 00:09:47 you still just got to put up more than two runs there in the, in a game against Dodgers. You can't accept the Dodgers to not score two runs. Let's be honest about this season thus far, Derek. I know that we have our quarrels with the bullpen and everybody's like, you know, you blew the first three games of the season with all blown leads by your bullpen.
Starting point is 00:10:12 But it's really been the lineup that has kind of been the letdown for the Diamondbacks through six games. And that kind of, it continues in this game where I know you're playing terrible. Eric Scoobel. So, you know, let's give a little bit of leeway in that situation. You're playing one of the best pitchers in baseball. He's going to be shut down. But it's not like this lineup has been like spectacular. They've had like one good inning in every game. And then they kind of go quiet, no, for large portions of the other games. Whereas I mean, the bullpen has given up some
Starting point is 00:10:41 runs, but it's like one run, two runs. And the lineup is not doing anything in, in terms of insurance runs to help the bullpen. So the Taylor Clark outing was probably the worst one. Yeah, absolutely. Besides, besides Joe Ross and, and Ryan Thompson, but they won that game. So you can't really, you know, worry about that too much. But also the lineup went cold in that game. Like the lineup went, it was going crazy at a point and then it goes cold again. The lineup's gone cold several times. Yeah. And I think that's, that's something that we're going to need to. And today, they are lucky to win this game with the amount of offensive production that they had, right? Especially again, like you expect this to be a low scoring game. Jeremy Strong is, is, is, is, is comments a mess there. I don't know what's going on. but we we have oh man yeah no i mean i'm going to blame whoever else that's not our fault that's
Starting point is 00:11:28 not a damon david that one's free of damon is that an erriton yeah that's probably an errant can we just blame erratin we're definitely blaming hashtag blame ariton that if there's somebody in this office that accepts blame well it's erritin he probably would be like yeah that's fine he'd be that's cool no you're right whatever i don't care um i will say that again they they should be they should feel very lucky to have won a game where they were only able to score one run. It does not happen very often for this team. And a big reason why, obviously, besides that Gallant's performance, was what this bullpen was able to step in here and do.
Starting point is 00:12:01 Taylor Clark, one inning of work, one hit allowed, two strikeouts. Juan Murillo, nothing. One inning of work, one strikeout, no hits allowed. And then, Damon, coming in for the close after Paul Seawalt successfully saved two games in a row and was shut down today, Johnny Lazzania! with the big save. One inning pitch, two hits, one, one huge save for Johnny Lazzania.
Starting point is 00:12:26 And honestly, I mean, again, he, let's talk about it for a second because I know it's a limited, very, very limited sample size, but in Johnny Loisica, Jonathan Loisica, I can't call him, I can't put his name together with the Johnny in there. But he has been incredible. He has been incredible for this team. And, I mean, he's one of those guys that kind of makes you wonder how the Diamondbacks were able to get him on the cheap in the way they did,
Starting point is 00:12:52 it might end up being a masterful addition to this team. And again, he's not been perfect, but at the same time, he's been able to come into some high leverage situations, pitch really, really well. And, I mean, the Diamondbacks got it all throughout this series. Paul Seawald deserves his flowers for what he did, saving those two games. Andrew Hoffman yesterday gave them two innings of work, allowing them to rest, you know, their bullpen and not have to use another arm in that game. And then today, these three guys combined for, what, three hits total, three strikeouts and one save.
Starting point is 00:13:27 Special. It felt good to finally have, you know, like some boring innings there by the bullpen. Even though they wasn't very boring, because with it being a one-nothing game, things could change like that. And thanks to the defense behind the pitching today, which was damn good, the Diamondbacks were able to get out of some situations where it looked like runners were going to score, especially on that. Kevin McGonicle triple, and instead they end up holding tight and winning this game. Derek, I believe that the saying goes something like pre-heat that oven to 350 degrees, wait about 15 minutes, and get the lasagna ready because Johnny is coming out of the pen. And I think that we might have ourselves a decent little reliever here.
Starting point is 00:14:09 350 degrees and then it'll be ready. Johnny lasagna. Preheat it. Eating up batters like a plate of spaghetti. still has a zero ERA on the season. Point 9 whip. I mean, it's very early, but the eye test has looked good as well.
Starting point is 00:14:22 This one's for you, Johnny Lazzania. Oh, the light went out. Anyway, Bravo by the bullpen. Bravo to Zach Gallen. Pitching was very good. And yes, Groundhog Mama is not wrong.
Starting point is 00:14:33 Magonical, scary good. We also had a thing where, I know you don't care about this because this is Sun Devil-related news, but they were like, Spencer Torkelson and had this explanation of him committing,
Starting point is 00:14:45 to ASU but never playing for them. Yeah, I did, I did see this, Derek, or I was told about this. I've never seen more wrong information on that board in my life. So I saw a lot of ASU fans that are like, D-backs, the Venn diagram there were very upset. And rightfully so, did, am I wrong in saying Spencer Torkelson, what not only, I mean, obviously he went to ASU. Did he not win the golden spikes at ASU? Yeah, he was a beast. I'm pretty sure that's like the version. That's the He's the Heisman version of college baseball. He was incredible at ASU. He was the number one over. overall pick in the draft, dude matched. And it's like, I saw people being like, hey, D-BACs, let's get your interns doing some
Starting point is 00:15:24 actual research instead of just typing into chat GPT. What's a fun fact about Spencer Torkelson and getting back? Well, you know, with a connection to Arizona, he almost went to school at Arizona. And you're like, actually three seconds of research would tell you that he did go to school at Arizona. And I almost guarantee that it was a chat bot situation is what happened. I'm doing it right now. I'm just trying to see what the results are that we get back really fast.
Starting point is 00:15:50 And I'm literally using what you just said. Give me a fun fact about Spencer Torkelson and being connected to Arizona. Let's see what it comes up with. I guarantee you this is exactly where they got it from. I mean, I don't know if it's going to yield the same results, but that's definitely where they got it from. Yep. Nope.
Starting point is 00:16:06 Nope. Nope. Chad GPT noseball. Chat GPT was like he was an absolute monster at Arizona State University. He actually broke Barry Bonds' freshman home run record at ASU with 25 bombs in his first season. And, yeah, basically, Chad GBT knows ball. So that's all I'm saying. That's all I'm saying.
Starting point is 00:16:24 Let's not drag Chat GBT through the mud because they don't deserve it. But again, a masterful pitching performance today by every pitcher on the Diamondbacks roster that came in today's game. And that's the reason why not only they won this game won to nothing, but win the series and sweep the series from the Tigers in these three games. feels good to be back to 500, and now it feels like the Diamondbacks kind of have a clean slate here approaching the rest of this month. That still has some difficult, you know, test ahead, including a four-game series here with the Atlanta Braves. So we'll talk about that on tomorrow's 12 p.m. show. Make sure to join us for that.
Starting point is 00:16:59 We're going to have some fun doing that. But for right now, we're going to take a quick break. On the other side of this break, we're going to talk about all of the offense or the lack thereof in this game. And especially Corby and Carroll hitting that big home run. Well, there was not much offense for either team outside of a guy named Corbyn Carroll,
Starting point is 00:19:07 who was outstanding and Carol continues to be back, right? you know we had a chance to talk a little bit to corby and carroll um but actually you know what first damon this is my bad i think we missed um before we move off of johnny lasagna i think we missed tory talking about johnny lasagna we have a little bit of of johnny lasagna talk from tory absolutely it's hear from him here's what he had to say um he's locked in he's been giving us some really good outs and uh um paul was down it's not a mystery you guys knew that and we don't want to spike any of our relievers the first couple months of this of this of the the season. So when you have somebody like Jonathan who can step into that role and go out and
Starting point is 00:19:47 collect outs, that part of the lineup, we're very lucky. And you went out there and executed. You know, Green, you know, we were betting on something in the left center field gap. You could see that. So you got to tip your hat to well-placed ball that was hit okay. But he didn't let it effect and went out there and collected that last out. And again, just another reliable weapon, the Diamondbacks, as we said just a few days ago when things weren't going so well for this team, I mean, things are going to change throughout the year. That bullpen is going to change. It's going to adapt. They're going to find guys they can rely on. There's going to be guys that disappoint, right? And I don't think anybody's job is secure on this team. The simple addition of
Starting point is 00:20:26 Jose Fernandez has kind of complicated things with him being as good as he's been. The Diamondbacks playing him at first base today proved that he can play that position well. We're going to talk about that defense, you know, but again, defensively, this team was locked in today with the pieces that were out there. They did an excellent job behind Zach and it's one of the big reasons why he had the outing that he had today. And this is Tori talking about Zach's outing and him just being very good in these big situations. Yeah, Zach was, you know, I didn't get a chance to really say much about him, so I appreciate it. He just was on the attack. He just was doing a really nice job with the curbstall combination off of the fastball. He fatigued. He was looking a little
Starting point is 00:21:08 bit tired towards the back half of that sixth inning. It was his last hitter. I told him when he came back in, you know, you're showing signs of fatigue, the things that I know of Zach and the stuff that I'm watching. And he said, yeah, you're right. And luckily we got that double play and he was able to walk off the mountain with six complete. So I'm not surprised. I've been seeing a different version of Zach with his preparation, with his attitude, and his focus. So I'm really, really happy for him. It's hard to say. I think if you talk to Zach, he's going to focus on himself. For us, he outduled them, right?
Starting point is 00:21:41 Who's to say one was better than the other? It was a great baseball game. It's fun to watch. I think you're four inches away from tying a game with that solo home run on their side, right? So in my opinion, when you are that elite and you get to that level, I think they think differently than you and I. They're just like, let me go out there and dominate the way I can and the way I should, and that's where Zach's probably going to be sitting right now. Well, and again, this is one of those wins that this Diamondbacks team was focused on making happen this year.
Starting point is 00:22:12 The focus this offseason was on defense. It's the reason why, given the options that they had, that they still decided to go after Carlos Santana for first base, and for Nolan Aronado to be over there at third base, they wanted to solidify their defense so that they could make mistake-free baseball and win close ball games like this. It's not something that really they've been able to do. in the past. And to be fair, already in this young season, they've had some, you know, they've had almost every single one of their baseball games where they've had a lead, right? I mean, they've led in all of these games and they led in every single Dodgers game as well.
Starting point is 00:22:46 So it hasn't been about obtaining a lead as much as it's been about holding it. Easier said than done. I'll be the first person to say that. Not a lot of baseball teams around the league can win one to nothing baseball games with the way that baseball has gone, right? So this was just an impressive win overall. And I asked Tori if this was, in fact, the best one of 26 so far. This is what he had to say. It's who we are, right? I think, I think when you combine everything and the things that we felt like we were lacking last year and you fast forward 365 days, how can you not be pleased with what we're all watching? The defense is playing fast. It's accurate. You know, balls are being thrown across the diamond
Starting point is 00:23:29 with accuracy. The outfield defense has been fantastic. So it was a point of emphasis for us this year. When we talked about it coming out of last season and into this spring training, we want to make sure that we were as race-ready as possible, and these guys are answering the bell. Well, I will say this.
Starting point is 00:23:49 There is definitely a feeling that this team can win games that they might have doubted that they could have won before, including the comeback victory yesterday, especially based on Jose Fernandez's big night, and then today being able to win a game where they couldn't flinch, right? Things got very close in this one,
Starting point is 00:24:10 but I think overall it's just great to see them fight back. We had no idea what this team was going to do. In fact, somebody in this room, I'm not going to name names, I'm not going to point fingers, but somebody in this room was like they're going to lose all 162 games. So all I'm saying is that that person might be here somewhere listening right now know he knows who he is he knows who he is but i can't believe people around this office we're talking like that it's crazy about my snakes derrick there was in this team in this bullpen
Starting point is 00:24:38 i forget who it was but somebody on social media sent out like uh like diamondbacks eliminated uh picture or something that social the in the to think that people were given up on this team after two games crazy it's crazy right it's it's ridiculous it's ridiculous some of us to be fair derrick also had preseason predictions of making the playoffs. So that's true. And some of us were like, hey, maybe they'll win 84 games. Yesterday I put as the thing to start off our little topic bar is, are we back? So I mean, welcome to the PHNXD backs podcast.
Starting point is 00:25:14 This is the ebbs and flows of the season. This is what 162 does to you. Yeah, you're never the same. And you're going to hear that it's so over and we're so back at least 10 plus times out of me this season. Of course. At different opportunities. Of course. Of course.
Starting point is 00:25:29 Buckle in, Derek. There's few things that make me feel the way I feel about, you know, in life, like watching this team in the eighth inning with a one run lead. Right? There's just nothing, nothing that makes my stomach feel better than that. I think we were all thinking a loss was happening. It felt inevitable. It felt inevitable. But it didn't happen.
Starting point is 00:25:48 And of course, you know, again, this is a huge bounce back after that Dodgers series. Tori discussed here what it felt like in and what it means to this team. to have this bounce back after getting swept there in LA. Yeah, I think we were all sending the same message to the players. I feel like we played some good baseball. We just lost four of the innings, and that ended up costing us three games. And when you live in those margins and try to win inches, that matters to us. And we made sure the guys knew that they were playing good baseball,
Starting point is 00:26:18 and if they keep it up, we're going to come out on the other end. So I think we're a good team. That's what it told us when we were, when we were, walking through some of the things that we did wrong. We felt like if we took care of that, we were going to be in a good spot. So, you know, you can't compare the teams that played one another. You can't compare it's so unlike. We just need to compete. And while I watch us compete on that level, the way we didn't Dodger Stadium and didn't back down, I'm very proud of the guys. And it's hard to come out of that to win three games against this quality of the team.
Starting point is 00:26:51 He's absolutely right. And again, I mean, the reason why they won was because of pitching at different times and it's that's probably what the diamondbacks didn't get last year also to be fair is that gallon he is just good when the lights are brightest and not always but man last year that seemed to be when he had his best performances so again this was another big pitching matchup tory's right that was the second half of his statement there about gallon was where he said you know gallon probably doesn't think of it that way probably doesn't think of it as a pitching duel But you also think that when you're going up against somebody the caliber of scoobble, that you kind of have to bring your best because you know that runs are going to be a premium,
Starting point is 00:27:32 and there's a good chance that this is going to be a very low-scoring game. And boy, did this one deliver that exactly to a T. But here's what Zach Gallen had to say about his outing today. Two guys, two pitching saps that were just in the strike zone, just, you know, making the hitters, make a decision, try to play ball and play. obviously they're not always going to be that fast so it's nice when they're fast and the winning side of them so yeah i'm i feel like just trying to fill up the strikes down and like i said make the team make this could make a decision to swing or not sorry i did not get a good g a ticket or a seat there
Starting point is 00:28:09 to the zack gallon press conference but the other ones are the other clips are better yeah because i fought my way down the front row yeah you know no i'm saying the other the other gallon clips are Oh, yeah, no, they definitely are. But again, you readjusted, you box some people out from the news. Thank you. I appreciate you recognizing the effort that I put in in order to increase the quality of the video as it went on. I know this is going to be a shock to everybody, but there is probably nothing that Derek would, you know, go to war over more than trying to film like a deback session like that in the locker room. Do not.
Starting point is 00:28:43 And I mean, and I mean this when I say it, do not get in my man's way. Yeah, I need to be center. will find you and he will kill you if you try to get in his way. Yeah. That's a warning shot to all these camera guys on the news, Derek. I'm putting it out there right now. Well, Gallen did discuss winning by a score of one to nothing. He was kind of asked about this team not really having this happen often.
Starting point is 00:29:07 This is what Gallen had to say. Yeah, that's, yeah, I think just the character in here, I think just the team getting older and maturing, bringing in some different just older veterans of like learning how to win those, you know, close ones, one-nothing, two-to-one, things like that. I think that really puts an emphasis on, like, towards talking about, like, doing the little things, like, doing the little things is that shows up the most in those low-scoring games.
Starting point is 00:29:34 You know, obviously in a 7-6 or an 8-7, like a lot of things could happen in that game. That's weird. So I think for us, just as a culture and an organization, just maturing and understanding what the little things are and executing those maybe at a little bit higher level, I think as a product of that would be, you know, kind of my opinion. He's absolutely right, though. I mean, again, there is something about the experience that this team is gaining
Starting point is 00:30:00 and even the bad times, the way that they've learned, right? I'll tell you this much. One thing that is in probably every single player's mind in that clubhouse that has been here over the last two years is that every single game matters. every single win matters. And as much as you don't want to really have that attitude about a 162 games season, it is definitely hard not to.
Starting point is 00:30:27 It's definitely hard not to have that attitude. But, you know, the one thing today was that Diamondbacks got some incredible defense, which we'll talk about here shortly. Or, I mean, we could even just talk about now, Damon, because overall Arnato, incredible, still very good. Jose Fernandez started at first base today. and he looks great at first base.
Starting point is 00:30:50 In fact, I would argue that looking at him today, I didn't see a guy that played shortstop. He just, he didn't look like a shortstop to me. What he looked like to me today was a first baseman. Ballplayer. He made. How about that, Derek? He made veteran decisions.
Starting point is 00:31:05 And in fact, he made one of the most important plays of the entire game. He just absolutely delivered today. Kevin McGonicle tripled in the sixth inning with one out. It looked like it was a foregone conclusion that this game was going to be a tie game. In fact, there was another hit. I think it was like Colt Keith off of Zach Allen that went 324 feet to right field. And had it gone 325 feet, this game would have been tied at one. Instead, it went 324 feet, bounced back into the infield,
Starting point is 00:31:35 and the Diamondbacks kept yet another extra base hit from scoring in that inning. But this play, this play when Glaber Torres smokes a ball down the first baseline, Fernandez collects it, gets the out at first, and then makes an absolute perfect throw over to Aronado at third to get McGonicle off the bag to double them up. It was perfection. It was perfection. It was unbelievable. And at the very least, it looked improbable when it happened. Like, it looked like McGonicle got back in time.
Starting point is 00:32:08 It just didn't register. It was one of those elite plays that a defender makes that really can be a game changer. especially in a 1-0 game. Who knows what happens if this game goes to extra innings? That's the last thing the Diamondbacks want with a four-game series, starting with the Braves at home tomorrow, especially with how taxed this bullpen has been already
Starting point is 00:32:28 in this young season. So what a play by Jose Fernandez. And, of course, first we have Tori talking here about Jose Fernandez and just everything he brings to this team, even though he did come back down to earth today offensively. Here's what Tori had to say. That's how his heartbeat is that he's, there's no panic in his game, and he can step up at the plate, and it's the same thing. And I think we're all seeing that.
Starting point is 00:32:52 But we've watched him through the course of time, you know, through the course of spring, those games where I'm watching on the back field. It's all very similar to what we've seen. And, you know, a lot of people would probably scramble, fumble it, and then you're late. But he calmly got to the ball, picked it up, and then threw a strike to Zach. And, you know, he hasn't played a lot of first base in the past two months, a month and a half. but we felt very comfortable he's going to be able to execute and he did. Gallen also had some very nice words about Nolan Arnato, and again, he's a guy that Gallen has played for,
Starting point is 00:33:24 played against for a significant amount of his career here in Arizona. So it's kind of nice to have that guy on your side, at least defensively behind you in a close game like this. Here's what Gallen had to say about Nolan. Yeah, it's great. I mean, I've played against it now for, what, eight years, I guess. and it's always I love to watch him play.
Starting point is 00:33:46 I love good infield play. It's just something that for me just like a thing I like. So I always like watching him play from cross the field. So now having him in our clubhouse and having him save runs for me and the rest of the pitching staff
Starting point is 00:33:57 is a little bit sweeter. And it's a guy who's very diligent about his craft and a guy who knows what he needs to do to make sure he's ready to play and the things that, you know, he's focused on that defensive part of it and as a pitcher just, you know, It takes another thing off your mind of like, all right, if I can have him hit the ball in that 20-foot radius over there, it's most likely going to be now.
Starting point is 00:34:18 So, yeah, he's fun to watch. I will say that overall here, you know, this team has looked good defensively all year long. They made their mistakes, but it seems like the majority of the mistakes we've seen this team make has been kind of squandering offensive opportunities, mistakes on the base path, things like that. The defense has been solid. And again, what we're seeing here, especially in this series. is how important that is, both yesterday and today. I mean, all three games, in fact, all three wins. And then you could say defensively, again,
Starting point is 00:34:49 not that too much cost them in LA, but this team has been playing competitive baseball ever since the first game. The only bad game that this team has had is the season opener there against Los Angeles. And there was a lot. There was a lot. It's hard not to have, you know, be a little overwhelmed there
Starting point is 00:35:08 by everything they had going on in LA, And I remember talking to Kevin Ginkle about it, and Kevin was like, it's kind of awesome. Like, it's awesome. It's one of those things as a player that you want that for you. You want that for your franchise. But to be there present and see them, you know, bringing out multiple World Series trophies and lowriders and, you know, the flyover and everything that they did there in Los Angeles. That might have been a bit intimidating there on opening day.
Starting point is 00:35:34 But again, the Diamondbacks played really good baseball even in those two losses. And I will still stand on, stand 10 toes down. that they outplayed the Dodgers there in that second game of the series, no matter what Dodgers fans want to call me for saying that. But overall here again, this was just another great win for this team. And Tori kind of gave his thoughts overall on the offense and the defense and, you know, this team coming up big today in this 1-0 victory. Yeah, for your baseball period, so you got to love this type of game, right?
Starting point is 00:36:08 You've got two elite starting pitchers that are just going toe to toe to toe with one another. And whether it was a mistake or not, I just want to give Corbyn credit because he ends up clipping a ball at the top of the zone for a solo home run. And that's it. That's it for the rest of the day. So we knew that it was going to be a little bit of a dogfight. And I'm just really proud of the way we continue to fight. There were some situations where we could have let these things slip away from us. turn it over to our pitching a defense. The play by Fernandez, the throw the ball
Starting point is 00:36:42 across the diamond on the double play was massive and things that are a little go a little unnoticed that little Hansi play that Aronano made in the ninth inning that's not easy. He's coming in on that ball puts his glove in the right spot, stops and then throws a strike to Vargas. So you know those are the things that were built on the pitching and defense that's music to my ears and clearly we're gonna have days like this when you run into somebody like scoobble that's going to be able to throw up as many zeros as he did. But overall, great series.
Starting point is 00:37:12 Great series. I wanted to enjoy it. And we got a little bit of the night off. We got a very tough Atlanta team. And I want us to be as ready as we were for this last series for the upcoming series starting tomorrow with the Bryce. Transonic says 10 toes down. Did I say 10 feet down?
Starting point is 00:37:27 I might have old manned that. But yeah, I'm standing 10 toes down on that one. But overall here, just a good win by the Diamondbacks. And again, not a great day offensively. when you look across the board, their top performers, all went one for three. Nolan Arnado continues to kind of struggle at the plate a little bit, but it looks like he's having better at bats. He was one for three today.
Starting point is 00:37:48 Vargy was one for three. Tim Tawa was one for three with the only other extra base hit. He had a double, and then Jordan Lawler, again, one for three. And these guys at the bottom of the lineup, they continue to hold things down for this team. I mean, I'm not going to be super worried about Cotel Marte and Nolan Arnato hitting below 200. but I will be super concerned about it if it lasts for too much longer. Meanwhile, you have Ildemarovar Vargas hitting 429, you have Tawa hitting 33,
Starting point is 00:38:17 and you have Lawler currently still hitting 313. So good contributions from the guys lower in the lineup and giving plenty of opportunities the guys at the top for the lineup to turn over and have runners on when Kattel and Corbin and Jerry come up. In fact, I do have a little piece of bad news. Damon, you might want to earmuffs this one. Jerry went 0 for today and it ends his on-base streak at 22 games, I believe.
Starting point is 00:38:46 That's over. The dream is dead. And let me just be clear about something, Derek. Heraldo Pardomo, do you know how much that streak matters to him? This much. Yeah. Because he's the captain. And what does the captain care about?
Starting point is 00:39:01 Winning. W's. Winning. Check in the box. And they did that today. W. Yeah. One zero is all that matters.
Starting point is 00:39:08 Was it an offensive explosion from the entire team? Absolutely not. Geraldo Prudoma will come back with a vengeance, but this team is now 500. And now it's about trying to get above 500 and building up some leeway for yourself once the reinforcements arrive. And that's what matters, Derek.
Starting point is 00:39:24 It's about the win. Not about freaking 0 for 4. Okay, calm down. Come at me about over 4 ever again. Personal achievements. It's about the team achievement. but we know the most important achievement on this show is King Snake, and that's why we are giving it to Corbyn, Carol,
Starting point is 00:39:40 for winning this game for the Diamondbacks. And this is where I'm conflicted, Damon. Like, Corbyn, had a good day. He had the best day offensively of any player on this team. Two for three today, one home run, one RBI, one walk for Corby. Not only does he look like he is himself again, but, you know, overall, here he is once again leading the way. it just also felt like Zach Gallen might have deserved it
Starting point is 00:40:04 because it would have been very easy for the team to lose today with only Corbyn Carroll's one run being the only run that scored. However, here we go. Here we are. Well, let's see who they have as a player of the game on MLB because they do like that WPA stat of like how much the win percentage added on. Okay. And Corbyn Carroll was given that over Zach Gallen today.
Starting point is 00:40:26 So the statistics agree with you, Derek, the analytics, because Corbyn Carroll was plus 11.2% on the win percentage. That's fantastic. Well, I mean, yeah, huge, huge in a game where no runs were scored. But here's Corbyn Carroll talking about hitting that home run off of Terrick Scoobel. Yeah, you're just going to have a good game plan. Obviously, he's one of the best in the game, if not the best. And so I think also trying to be a little smaller, do a little less off of guys like that.
Starting point is 00:40:58 They're stuff so dominant that you want to get a good pitch to hit. Yeah, line draft trajectory. I mean, it looked like it just snuck over the fence. So, yeah, I was hoping to get a triple. That second part of that question was because he was asked, you know, if he thought it was actually a home run off the back, considering how fast out of the box he came. And like you said there, no, he did not think it was that.
Starting point is 00:41:23 He was going for a triple. When me and Alex Weiner from Arizona Sports 98. We were watching. We were convinced that even if it didn't go over the fence, he was going to get it inside the park home run because there was a bit of a commitment there by the outfielder and it seemed like if he wasn't going to get it, that was going to have a good chance of bouncing back in
Starting point is 00:41:42 and getting away from him. And Corby the time that ball was already to the fence, I think it was rounding second. The man is just so incredibly fast and impressive. And again, you know, he is a guy like you said about Jerry that he just wants to win. He wants this team to do well, and it doesn't matter what he does over the course of a game,
Starting point is 00:42:04 just as long as he can help his team in some way win. Here he is talking about bouncing back after that Dodgers series and getting the sweep here against the Tigers. Yeah, it's huge. I think, you know, a testament to some of the veteran leaders that we have in this team to be able to bounce back that way, not just ride the motions of that Dodgers series and take them over into this one.
Starting point is 00:42:24 I think everyone was kind of on the same page of like, hey, we played some good games there, and we'll be ready to go, and I thought we did a good job. Well, Tori can't say enough glowing things about Corbyn Carroll, obviously, but on a day like this, again, and with how things kind of have changed for him, for his swing, you're happy to have your superstar back, and he helped you win a big baseball game today.
Starting point is 00:42:49 Here's Tori's thoughts on Corbyn's day. Yeah, well, you know, piece by piece, I think I said this the other day, I felt strongly that the hand wasn't going to be an issue with him impacting the baseball and finishing the swing and getting that extra carry. I tried to say that to you guys, but we both didn't know. I think I am not surprised, and when I sit here and tell you guys, he's an unbelievable athlete, you can see the reasons why.
Starting point is 00:43:15 What does it tell me? That he is fierce and he is ready to compete against anybody at any time, and he is going to be able to do things like that as long as he takes the field. The big question for Corbyn, though, has been about the pain in his hand. Like, we know that he's healed. We know that we know physically that he's fine. And we know physically that there's not really any setbacks that can happen after having this stupid bone removed from your hand that everybody should have removed out of their baby's hands upon birth because it's a dumb bone and we don't need it.
Starting point is 00:43:50 That's just my opinion. But in regards to his hand, obviously pain tolerance has been been done. the big key. And he was asked a couple of questions about it here. It was just kind of fascinating because he talked about the biggest problem being the scar tissue building up in his hand and how that has to be broken up. I thought it might have been by some sort of like stretching or something you do with your hand. Apparently it's a what sounds like a pain torture machine that he has to put his hand into. So here's Corbyn talking about how he feels and the process that he's still going through with that injury.
Starting point is 00:44:27 Professional athlete? I don't know. I just want to be available, want to be ready to go. Got guys in this locker room that need, want you there. And so that's just, it's my goal to be available. How encouraging is it to have this success early after your injury and especially spring? Yeah, it feels good.
Starting point is 00:44:50 I've been happy with my swings the last couple days. feel like I've got some good cues right now that are, you know, just clicking and, you know, hope to keep going forward. How much extra maintenance does it take to make sure your hands okay? Yeah, I mean, at this point, it's kind of the breaking up the scar tissue, making sure that the range of motion in the hands in a good spot. So that's kind of where I'm at right now. Yeah, I think so.
Starting point is 00:45:21 Just want to stay on it and make sure that, again, like that scar tissue doesn't build up. and restrict range. How do you break up scar tissue? There's like a machine that they use. I think it's called the AccuScope, but we've got a trainer that's very good at inflicting pain. Has it felt better? Is it feeling better now than it was in spring training
Starting point is 00:45:47 when you first started hitting? Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Like way better? Yeah, way better. some discussion here. First, we thought he was going to say like the, that he got it from the horoscope machine like Blaze did when he experienced the fluorescope thing. I forgot about that. Derek, I had a question for you. Oh, sure. Go ahead. Is Corbyn Carol the coolest headband guy ever? Oh, yes. Because I'm not sure that anyone's ever worn a headband as good as Corbyn Carroll wears a
Starting point is 00:46:16 headband. Here's the thing. Speaking as a man who doesn't have the strongest hairline anymore, Corbyn doesn't even need that headband His hair line is fine Derek His headline is his hairline is thick And it's no comment on my own personal situation Right But also I have grown out the flow a little bit longer
Starting point is 00:46:37 And I will say that the headband is actually necessary When your one when your hair is as long as Corbyn's hair is Yeah Like Corbin's hair actually he does need that headband Or else he'll he's gonna like sweat like crazy Yeah I guarantee you that I'm also a big head sweater, but again, I think still that's the lack of coverage I have from the hair on my head. Is that club penguin?
Starting point is 00:46:59 Regardless, this? Yeah. That is freaking Captain Caveman, brother. I'm strong. I mean, it's, listen, I'm far. I know you're far. It's Captain Caveman. It looks like a Club Penguin character.
Starting point is 00:47:10 Don't you do that to be? I don't even know. I've never, I'm too old for Club Penguin. I, in what world would I have ever interacted with Club Penguin? That's fair. And for my daughter. You should have been in a jail cell if you were. playing club play penguin at the age that you were at that game came out.
Starting point is 00:47:26 Journey was asking about how other people that have dealt with the Heymate injury are doing. I don't believe Jackson Holiday is back from his yet. And the other comparable one would be Francisco Lindor, who is currently hitting 143 with zero home runs, zero RBI, and I think three hits total on the season. So he's on my fantasy team, Derek. We're aware.
Starting point is 00:47:50 But also. Also aware of who else is. on your fantasy. I mean, sure, be aware of it because we've built an absolute monster of a roster. Of course you. Of course you did you fraud. I mean, Derek, whether we're talking about, you know, Shea Langliers who can't stop hitting bombs. We're talking, you know, Luis Robert, who is so back.
Starting point is 00:48:12 J.J. Weatherholt, the rookie of the year. I mean, this, this roster that I've accumulated, unbelievable. I know everyone cares about my fantasy. Nobody cares about your fantasy football. Everybody cares. We're going to be updating it all season long. We're going to be updating it all season long. Danielle wants to know who else is on your fantasy base.
Starting point is 00:48:30 Hunter Brown, who has 17 strikeouts in his first two games this season. Trevor Rogers is a stud. You know exactly what she means, you fraud? Anyway. One hit yesterday for that guy, by the way. He only allowed one hit. Let's take a quick break. And on the other side of this break,
Starting point is 00:48:46 we're going to take a look at the numbers from this series and this big sweep over the Detroit Tigers. And then I'm probably going to yell some more about the ribbon boards because I saw somebody's comment in the chat about that. So let's do that on the other side of this break. Don't you go anywhere? You're watching the PHNX Diamondback Show. Well, again, shout out to the husband and wife law team. That is a couple that is an amazing couple of people.
Starting point is 00:49:13 They are awesome. They love their snakes. It was great to see them last night. And again, big celebrities here in the Valley, obviously, but also very down to earth, very cool people. It was great to chat with them for a little. bit and again, it's great to have people like that in your corner. So if you ever experience a serious injury or accident, contact the husband and wife law team first. They will have your back. They have hundreds of years of combined experience at their firm when it comes to
Starting point is 00:49:38 to being a law firm. They also are experienced in specifically serious injury and wrongful death litigation. Less than 1% of lawyers in this state are certified in that field. And of course, that's what's that what is what makes them so special of course they are experts they also go to trial they are trial lawyers not something believe it or not not every lawyer does so if the case needs to go to trial they are ready and they know what needs to be done in order to prevail for you in front of a jury now obviously no lawyer can guarantee the outcome of your case but what they can guarantee to you is that you have the right to trust that as your lawyers they will tell you both the strength and weakness of your claim so you can make informed decisions plus you can
Starting point is 00:50:21 speak to one of their lawyers about anything you want at any time, and you can cancel their fee agreement at any time for any reason. Even my fantasy baseball team, Derek? Yeah, so, no, I mean, they'll probably give you excellent advice on that, and they're not going to judge you about the show Aetani thing the way I am. They'll probably applaud you for making savvy decisions, but that's because they know ball. If you had a serious injury, call the husband and wife law team first at 602-783, 8-8441,
Starting point is 00:50:46 or visit their website at the link in our show description, and tell them the mayor of Ph.NX. sent you. Stop. Nobody's asking you anything. But, uh, all right. Starting point is 00:51:56 Well, Damon, this series overall, good series for the Diamondbacks, good accumulated stats. So if we can, let's take a look at buy the numbers from this big sweep of the Detroit Tigers. Again, the first time the Diamondbacks have accomplished a suite of Detroit here at Chase Field, Team Mystery. I got to give, give me one second on the numbers here. It was kind of sent in an odd way. Oh, God. technology. It's the worst. But anyway, what we do have, though, is the Diamondbacks, of course, winning this one by three games. They outscored the Tigers here 17 to 11. And, you know, that's pretty
Starting point is 00:52:36 big here in a series that, you know, the Diamondbacks offense kind of was there, but, you know, still you expect to see more out of it. I think the thing that we expect to see more in a series like this is contributions from Citell-Hartre, from Geraldo Pardomo. from those guys, right? And we're not really getting that yet, but the Diamondbacks are still finding a way to win. That's why I got to give credit where credit is due to the bottom of the lineup because those guys have been pulling their weight. They've been doing what they need to do. And in fact, that was a big time weakness for this Diamondbacks team last season was, you know, the six through nine, five through nine hitters not really, you know, adding much to this team,
Starting point is 00:53:17 not really, you know, having good, you know, good nights at the plate and making kind of of the top half have to, you know, work so hard in order to win baseball games. But overall here, good series win. Like I said, the Diamondbacks actually just narrowly outhit the Tigers 25 to 23. The D-backs had five home runs in this series to the Tigers, zero home runs. And the biggest thing here is that they're starting pitching ERA beat the Tigers. They stepped up their pitching staff, their starters, gave them a chance to win. And that still is with Brandon fought giving up those five earned runs in his third inning there of work.
Starting point is 00:54:03 But Brandon gave him six innings of work with those five run runs. Zach gives them six innings scoreless today. And in the first game, they get five innings for Michael Soroka in his historic debut, striking out 10, which is the most strikeouts for any pitcher making their debut in Diamondbacks history, and also tossing in there an immaculate inning while he was at it. But Diamondbacks' ERA for this series was 2.65 to the Tigers 3.78. And then the bullpens were bad, but the Tigers was so much worse than the Diamondbacks here. Here we go. Look at this.
Starting point is 00:54:39 Just in time for the relief ERA. 12.28 by the Tigers. And that's why they lost this series. That's why they got swept. Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks, BRA, not much better. Six earned runs allowed by the Diamondbacks bullpen there in that first game when they were up eight to nothing. That's really what kind of ballooned it up
Starting point is 00:54:59 because they did not allow an earn run in game two or game three. Meanwhile, the Tigers, four earn runs allowed in game one, six earn runs from the bullpen there in game two. And then today, just the one inning of work with no earn runs. a thorough victory overall here from the Diamondbacks in this series, and they did just a great job here of turning things around when, you know, it honestly looked like, as we said, this month, the beginning of their season is difficult,
Starting point is 00:55:27 and it felt like things might start getting out of control if they didn't find a way to win here at home. Not only do they win, but they sweep the Tigers for the first time in team history at home, and they look to take on a Braves team here while they are, still, you know, playing good baseball, still here at home. They kind of get an early night here. They get a late 640 start tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:55:49 So things are looking pretty good for this team as of right now. But it's big series. Big series. I think the Braves is very big. The Braves are a team that strikes me as a team that, like, really is in need of a big bounce back this year. They've obviously had like a couple seasons now in a row where they haven't been as good as they were.
Starting point is 00:56:08 Oh, yeah. When they were World Series favorites, Because they're the best record in baseball. They're just always good. They always trying to ready to get things back on. They are. That's a good organization. In 2023, I think they had the best record in the National League, if I'm not mistaken.
Starting point is 00:56:20 Yeah. And they didn't make the World Series, obviously. They lost the Phillies who obviously then lost to us. But in 2022, they won. Did they not? That was this, they won that World Series in 2022, I think. Might have been 21. But they've been very good recently.
Starting point is 00:56:37 They've had a couple of down years. I think they're going to make a. push to get back to a team that's going to be in the playoffs. So I think that this is hypothetically a team that you would have to compete with in the late portions of the season for a wildcard spot and would be great to get a series victory over them early on, wouldn't it? So and not and avoid the type of tiebreaker situation that screwed you over in 2024 when the Braves and the Mets decided to play patty cake for an entire baseball game. Two baseball games actually. So they could both make.
Starting point is 00:57:11 the playoffs. So yeah, let's get retribution for 2024 as well. I agree. That's what I want. I want revenge. I don't want this to be amicable. I don't want this to be nice. I want to be mean. And I want to go out and I want to, I want to sweep them now in four games. I want the diamondbacks to get on a winning streak here. I want them to be the talk of baseball. Jose Fernandez kind of was the talk of baseball after what he did last night. And yeah, I mean, this is an exciting, fun, young team that has the opportunity here to really get on a role and prove a lot. lot of people wrong, including two guys on this podcast that both had a hard time seeing this team having a winning record by the end of April. And that's fair criticism because the schedule is very tough. In fact, I think somebody in the chat sent like Rob Manfred poop in a bag to his
Starting point is 00:57:57 front door because of this whole situation there with, and it's not even his fault. He didn't schedule it. Well, Derek, to be fair to me, I also said that this team was winning the World Series. So when you cover all your bases, you can kind of not really ever be wrong. Yeah. No, this team's eliminated in game two. This team's winning the World Series. This team's making the playoffs.
Starting point is 00:58:18 This team won't finish above 500. Like, just get all the takes out there. Let them fly. And then you can claim that you were right no matter what. It's beautiful. It's amazing. Well, let's take a quick break. And on the other side of this break,
Starting point is 00:58:30 we're going to take some of your questions from the chat. And then we're going to get out of here and prepare ourselves for the Braves, because we've got to prepare ourselves for the Braves. We're going to do that here in two minutes. Don't you go anywhere. You're watching the pH next Diamond Beck Show. Well, Damon, it's hot already, but it's only going to get hotter here in the Valley. And, of course, the best way for you to combat those high energy bills is for you to check out APS's budget billing option that you can get in on right now.
Starting point is 00:58:57 Don't wait until those bills get high. Contact APS right now and get yourself on their budget billing plan where they can average out what your bill is over the course of a year. And it will be a month-to-month payment that stays the same. amount. No surprises, no gigantic bills when June and July comes around, just the ability to plan and budget properly knowing exactly what you're going to pay month to month. Let me tell you, right? Like, things are easier when we know what we're going to pay. It can be very difficult to suddenly get a very high energy bill when the summer months roll around and you don't have the means to potentially pay it. So make sure to check out all of the options that you have over at
Starting point is 00:59:34 APS. Find all your options to manage your bill at APS.com slash let's talk right now. And don't wait on that. Go do that right now. Get, get going. Also, this is unrelated to any of the ads, but go put air in your tires right now. Gas is very cheap, and chances are you're not getting the gas mileage
Starting point is 00:59:50 that you should be getting. That's just a free ad for you guys. But also, thanks to Shady Ray's, I'm happy to give out free ad because I don't, Damon, have to worry about where my sunglasses are. In fact, I've had that moment a few times, and then I just thought, they're Shady Ray's.
Starting point is 01:00:05 I'll get another pair if I lost them. Who cares? Who cares, right? And I'm really bad at keeping track of my sunglasses. So if you're like me, check out Shadyrays. They have some wonderful lenses that will make your face look beautiful. They have polarized, or excuse me, frames. That's the frames part.
Starting point is 01:00:21 That makes you look beautiful. The lenses protect your eyes. They got polarized lenses that will stop this sun that's trying to blind you from ever doing so. And again, also make you look very, very beautiful, very handsome. But check out, of course, everything that they have to offer over there, including their crazy, lost, and broken replacement plan. Right now, head on over to shady rays.com and use code P HNXR for 40% off two or more pairs of polarized sunglasses. And remember, Shady Raise is eyewear that has your back.
Starting point is 01:00:53 Well, Damon, I know that we have an opening day is coming gone, both the actual opening day and the Diamondbacks home opener. But that doesn't mean that we still don't have a wonderful array of shirts for you guys to check out. Make sure to check out our shop right now. We got in our locker three new T-shirts. two new hats and two new hoodies in different colors we got an amazing new snakes logo and of course if you are diehard you can get a shirt or hat for absolutely free we have our special $36 intro offer which is happening right now and current dieards obviously you can use your 20% off discount to get those
Starting point is 01:01:29 new shirts today so let's do that take care of that but Damon I think we had some questions in the chat just a few I don't know if you can find it but I do know one of them was asking about the ribbon boards at Chase Field, something that I've already kind of complained about, mostly because of the manner in which they were blocking my view of the Legends race. But in all seriousness, they do kind of make it a little difficult to see some things down on the field. Now, what I will say is I've actually talked to a few fans who were sitting up in the front row in the 300 section, which is the area that's most impacted by the ribbon boards. And if you're not aware, they, they basically added these very, very big, very bright,
Starting point is 01:02:17 very colorful, you know, ribbon boards around like the, the middle sections of the arena or the ballpark. And, you know, they, they stick up. They aren't sized to be smaller. They aren't sized to be the space. They stick above, you know, the bottom of where people sitting in the front row section 300 currently are and it just blocks a portion of your downward view but i will say that i went and checked out my old season ticket seats and you know again i might have brought this up the other day if you sit up straight and you look down on the field like you most likely are going to do it didn't really feel like the ribbon boards impacted your view very much however baseball game's three hours and i don't technically like to like sit damon like i'm dialed in
Starting point is 01:03:06 elbows on knees just locked in the whole game, my back hurts after a while from doing that. I like to sit back in my seat and just chill, drink a beer, and be able to see the full field. And I will say that the ribbon boards impact that in several areas. And again, there's no, not to make my own problems, your problems, but it's so bad in the press box that they had to move. The guy that operates the pitch clock and the guy that operates the ABS system. man, the game day guy, the guy that does the pitches and strikes in game day. All of those people had to be moved because where they have sat for years, which is in the front row of the press box off to the right side,
Starting point is 01:03:48 now it's blocked too much by the ribbon board that they can't do their jobs properly. So they have new, new seat. So that's a part of it now. Nothing is funnier, though, for people when media members complain about stuff like that. That's honestly one of my favorite pastimes on Twitter as well. when media guys are like, you'll never believe how awful this is. It's the worst thing ever, the free baseball games I go to. Yeah, no, I mean, you're not going to get a lot of sympathy for sure when you have a press pass and get you in the baseball games for free.
Starting point is 01:04:19 But I will say that, you know, it's just kind of ridiculous, right? It's silly that they didn't like. How did, how did this happen? Yeah. Basically is what it comes down to. No one sat down in the seat and went like, you know, actually, guys, I can't really see home plate very well from here. Right. And more importantly, like, how do you not do your due diligence on this when it comes to the size of the ribbon boards, what they're going to block, what they're going to impact? You know, it's weird. I don't think it's going away. I don't think it's changing.
Starting point is 01:04:52 So I will say that that's something that if you sit up there in 300 and your views partially blocked, you're probably going to have to steal with it, unfortunately. you know um let's see we got um shan in the chat says i feel good about ryan in the opener i just want to say um i had the pleasure of meeting ryan nelson's dog and she's amazing what kind of dog um i don't know the exact breed my the way i call failure of of unspeakable levels there no i know i know um uh how am i supposed to put a picture to this dog if I have no idea what type of dog it is. Yeah, no, I mean, there's good, right. There's no way. Go check out Ryan Elson's
Starting point is 01:05:37 freaking page. Go check out his IG. There's no way that he's not going to post these amazing pictures he showed me of his dog galloping through the field, ears up, flowing back in the wind, playing with Alec Thomas's dog on field.
Starting point is 01:05:53 Great stuff. Great stuff. A pleasure. Trust me. Me and Megan Plain lost our mind. when there was a dog in the clubhouse. We had to go meet him. So that's it. And I'm sorry, I don't know the dog breed necessarily. I think it was a poodle of some kind, if I'm not mistaken.
Starting point is 01:06:12 You know, like one of those poodle, not the poodle poodle breeds, but like the, it's like a golden doodle. Yeah. Or like a barbet, I believe is what they're called. I don't, I used to work at an animal hospital very long ago. The name of these dogs are weird. I think it's either that or it's a, Legato Rom Gondolo.
Starting point is 01:06:33 I don't know. Muppet Dog. I call them Muppet Dogs because that's what they look like. They look like a Muppet Dog to me. Sean asks, how is the spread in the press box? Eh, it's hit or miss.
Starting point is 01:06:45 It's not always great, but it's not always bad. Opening day is always tremendous, and I will say that the other day had a hankering, Damon for meatballs. You know how weird it is to have a craving for meatballs? And they just showed up.
Starting point is 01:06:57 find out that they in fact have meatballs that day. Special. Oh, it was special. It's special. Definitely good, good stuff. But yeah, that's all I got. I think someone else. Did someone else have a comment?
Starting point is 01:07:09 We had a super chat. Super chat from our girl, Candice. Candice wants to know where the emojis are. All right. That's probably the most valid thing I needed to address. And Damon will test to this. We dropped the ball. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:07:24 I mean, the best way to say it. You know what? I thought, This is on me and this is, you know, all, it's going to sound like I'm blaming you, Derek, but I promise you. I'm not blaming you. You're about to blame me right now. I thought Derek was going to be in the office today. And I thought that because of that, we could like talk to Shane or whatnot.
Starting point is 01:07:43 By the time that Derek got to the office, no, no Shane in here. I forgot I was doing Wildcat stuff. Then Shane had to leave early to go to a Passover dinner. We're very busy around here. Yeah. It was a miscalculation for sure. And I said I was going to figure it out and I didn't. And for that, I'm sorry, chat.
Starting point is 01:08:06 We'll be better. We'll be more prepared for next time. Yeah, where, where. All right. And it's definitely, it's not Derek's fault. But if Derek was here, things might have been different. But again, it's not Derek. I don't want to make it sound like I'm blaming Derek because I'm not.
Starting point is 01:08:20 I would never do that. I'll take it. I'll take that one. That's good enough. That's a good enough explanation for me. I love you guys. I thank you guys for being here. We will be back tomorrow with a 12 p.m. show previewing that four game series against the Braves.
Starting point is 01:08:32 And then we have one more postgame show left in us. That'll be Friday night after game two.
