Who even is this team?
The Arizona Diamondbacks win their fifth game in a row.
Eduardo Rodriguez shoved and Corbyn Carroll delivered the walkoff hit in the bottom of the ninth inning.
We are going live now, but first, turn on your cactus lights.
Let's go.
Welcome into another edition of the PHNX Diamondbacks post game show.
Not presented by our friends at Circle K.
It is I, your mayor of the Winners Lounge.
I don't know what the mercury got going over there.
This is the Winners Lounge over here.
My name is Derek Monsie, occasionally known as your mayor of PHNX,
and I am thrilled to be talking about the Arizona Diamondbacks fifth win in a row,
beating the Colorado Rockies tonight by a score of two to one on an absolutely outstanding night
from Eduardo Rodriguez and a game winner from Corby Carroll.
I am not alone, and I'm never alone.
I got my guy, Damon Dog on the ones and twos.
He's my dog, he's your dog, he's everyone's dog.
But tonight, he's Eduardo Rodriguez's dog.
Let's effing go.
What a big win.
Are we back?
I mean, we've considered if we're back, we've analyzed the data,
and I think that all hypothesis point to we are in fact back.
But this show, of course, is brought to you by our friends over at Bet365,
Bet365, where winning is everything just like the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Go download the app right now and use that code of PHNX365 when you sign up.
We're also brought to you by our friends at GameTime.
Download that GameTime app, create an account, and use code P HNX for $20 off your first purchase.
Terms do apply over there at both of those things.
But we are thrilled, again, to be talking about the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Getting the win tonight, big win over the Colorado Rockies on a night where it was an absolute pitchers duel at Chase Field.
The Diamondbacks come out on top by a score of two to one.
They have now won five games in a row, five, five.
and they improve to 26 and 23.
And Damon, you know what that means.
Send Perdomo up that mountain.
Couldn't be more excited about this one.
That's your favorite song, Derek.
That is my favorite song.
Well, that and the DeBacks After Dark song.
But that's just because I like hearing Gil's voice.
Yeah, but that's only for special occasions.
That's for special time.
That's for after dark occasions.
That is for after dark.
But again, thrilled to have you guys here.
thrilled to be talking about the Diamondbacks win.
They are now six and one in their first seven games here over this 13 game stretch
that we were talking about dictating the season.
Hashtag the schedule.
Hashtag the stretch, if you will.
And the Diamondbacks, of course, they get another quality start from a starting pitcher
since hashtag the meeting.
But first, we got to talk about the offense or the lack of, at least the story of this
game was that Eduardo Rodriguez was brilliant, right? But on the flip side, so was Zach Agnos,
who is a relief pitcher that came into this game, Damon, with a five, I believe a 5.41 ERA,
and somehow he dominated the Diamondbacks. We got bullied tonight. The Arizona Diamondbacks got
bullied by a guy, excuse me, that came into this game with a 5.59 ERA. But hats off to Zach
Agnos for coming in into a game that we thought was going to be a bullies.
bullpen game and absolutely handling and dominating the Diamondbacks because he did that, right?
But the benefit here is that Erod was equally impressive, if not more so, going seven innings
scoreless.
And as many of you have said in the chat, deserve the win.
He deserved the win.
But he didn't get it tonight because the Diamondbacks did let this one, which was a one-run
game at the time, get tied up by the Rockies, eventually winning it in the ninth inning with
Corby Carroll's walk-off RBI single, they basically pitched around Catelle Marte to get to
Corbyn Carroll, and he absolutely made them pay for it. But Corbyn Carroll recorded his fourth
career walk-off and his first since July 29th of 2024 versus the Washington Nationals. It has been a
very long time for Corbyn. Nearly two years since he's had a walk-off hit for this team. I'm sure
that felt very, very cathartic. And we already got some.
somebody in here wanting to dye my eyebrows wondering how many games it's going to take how many wins in a row.
That was all the question was. It wasn't a it wasn't. I don't love that. No, no, no. I mean,
you can make the number. You guys, no. See, we just want a number. You're, you're, you're backing me into a
corner right now. 12. 12 would be pretty insane. 15. 15 games in a row. Yeah. You win 15 games in a row.
Can I buy two games off you? Can I get 13? Lucky number 13. No, Jose Fernandez is number. No,
because I want to get through this stretch because I think they're going to win a lot.
of games in the stretch and then see what happens on the other side of it.
I also very much don't want to dime my eyebrows any kind of color.
Okay.
Because if it goes as poorly as my hair, my eyebrows might not grow back properly ever either after
that.
But chat, you guys heard that.
That's a concrete 15.
Let the record show.
I hate that you made me do that.
We need to find a way to get that clip in front of Diamondbacks players, truthfully,
because that's the motivation this team needs.
It's funny you say that because I'll never forget when Jake McCarthy was a Diamondback
and he looked at me across the field.
Who?
Jake McCarthy.
Lake Larkie?
Yeah, exactly.
Because we're beating the Rocky's ass so bad?
Come on now.
That's good one.
He was still a diamond back at this time.
And when we made our stupid little purple hair bet, or I did, I should say,
he looked at me from across the field and he just shouted,
you're going to look good with purple hair.
And he was right.
I looked pretty damn good with the purple hair.
I'm not going to lie.
Eyebrow slits are for playoffs.
I thought I offered up a test.
tattoo, I believe, was the commitment I made for the playoffs.
And I'm thinking that that tattoo might have something to do with that quote from
Gonzo on Monday when he said, you don't make the club in the tub.
That sounds like a good tattoo idea.
But we got to get back to this game, Damon.
We're so off course.
I mean, we're thinking about World Series.
I know, yeah.
Let's make some World Series bets while we're at it.
Hey, Espo, what, we got to be there, right?
We got some presence out there.
Corby and Carroll extended his hit streak to nine games also with that big hit.
in the ninth inning.
And it is the fourth longest active streak in MLB currently.
So hats off to Corby for being consistent.
And, you know, what a way to come back from getting hit in the head two games ago,
taking yesterday off to which Corbyn said after the game,
he felt like it was needed.
He felt good to have that extra sleep and the extra time after getting hit on the noggin like he did.
Very painful.
And I can only imagine how hard that ball was thrown at hit.
but he came through for this team tonight and he looked fine.
More importantly, the Diamondbacks, you know, if you want to look at it negatively,
they did kind of get owned and dominated tonight by the Rockies pitching staff.
It's great that they came through at the end, but you have to feel like with the way that this team was on a role,
the way they came into the series, that their offense should have been able to produce more.
The Diamondbacks only had one hit through their first four innings,
which was a Catelle Marte single in the third inning.
But they were able to eventually outlast Zach Agnose.
And once he left the game, the Diamondbacks were able to finally get some runners on base.
In the sixth inning, Ryan Walschmidt had a lead off walk, Atel Marte, had his second single of the night, which put runners on the corners.
Corbyn Carroll at the time grounded into a fielder's choice ground out.
That scored Waldschmidt and gave the Diamondbacks a 1-0 lead.
So Corbyn Carroll was involved in both of the runs scoring tonight and truly was the offensive hero for this team.
there in the sixth inning, Pridoma walked. Corbyn Carroll went to second with one out.
Arnado got hit by a pitch to load the bases.
And then, like the Diamondbacks have done entirely too many times so far over the last few games,
they grounded into the inning-ending double play when they had their best scoring opportunity of the night set up.
And it's rough to see that, like that, especially on a night where runs were a premium
and the Diamondbacks were struggling to get their offense going and playing that complimentary baseball
that Damon likes to talk about, this team didn't do that tonight.
This one, honestly, with the way they performed, should have been a loss.
And they're just probably pretty lucky that they faced, you know, a team like the Colorado Rockies,
a team that was equally bad offensively tonight, and a team that also wasted.
There are few opportunities they had against Erod.
But the Diamondbacks had more wasted opportunities in the seventh inning with one out.
Moreno singled, and then he stole second base.
Dell walked and then with two on,
Waldie struck out,
Marte Grounds out, no run score.
Same thing in the eighth.
With one out in the eighth,
Perdomo walks.
Then he steals second,
and then he advances to third
on a throwing error by catcher Hunter Gumbin,
and it felt like with Perdomo there,
on third base, with one out,
it was a foregone conclusion
that they were going to score that run.
Instead, with one out,
Perdomo tries to come home on a contact play
by Nolan Aronado,
and he was put out at home
to just kill that rally.
So again, that was their chance at scoring the go-ahead run late in the eighth inning,
and they were unable to do so.
Or Arnada would get to second on the fielder's choice while they had Perdomo in a pickle run down there.
They would intentionally walk Vargas to get to Lordus Guerrille,
and then Lordis Gurriel would strike out to end the inning.
And yeah, that's how that scoring opportunity ends.
But in the ninth, the ninth inning, big ninth inning for this Diamondbacks team.
You can't say enough about how Gabriel Moreno specifically came up big for this team.
And that first at bat, Gabriel Moreno just absolutely grinded through it.
It was an eight pitch at bat to eventually walk and become the Diamondbacks.
Go ahead run.
The winning run there on base, Jose Fernandez, pinch hits for Dell.
He comes out.
He gets a sackbunt that moves Moreno over to second.
Ryan Walschmidt would strike out trying to go entirely too hard in his at bat.
I mean, that was probably one of my more frustrating at bats to watch because you felt like
Walt Schmidt just kind of let the moment get to him there.
And he wanted to be the winner.
He wanted to hit three home runs and he just was swinging at stuff outside of the zone,
didn't have very good swing decisions there.
And I mean, that kind of felt like the case in a lot of these scoring opportunities.
Once the Diamondbacks, you know, with the players getting the sense that runs were going to be a premium in this one.
you got you got them getting little anxiety riddled a little antsy at the plate and I think that's what caused you know some of these bad at bats when they had runners in scoring position ready to go and when I say bad at bats I mean literally like I think the the ball that was hit into the double play um in the seventh or in the sixth inning there I think that was like Vargas hit into it was the first pitch he didn't even take a single pitch before uh grinding into that double play so it's like you know they they continue to
to talk about this team chasing too much.
They continue to talk about this team
just being entirely to, you know,
swing happy at times.
And tonight was a great example of that for sure.
But again, ninth inning,
you got the Rockies essentially
intentionally, unintentionally,
Wauquitell to then pitch to Corby and Carroll.
And after throwing the sweeper probably like 20 times
in the inning, finally Corbyn Carroll makes contact
and hits a single to right field,
Tyler Freeman, Gabriel Moreno scores,
and the Arizona Diamondbacks walk it off.
So it's a very, very, very fun ending to this game.
It was a night that especially with the bullpen faltering like Juan Murillo did,
it did feel like this one was maybe destined to be a little bit of a heartbreaker.
With the way the offense played, it probably should have been a heartbreaker,
but somehow this team remains, you know, hot,
and they find a way to win baseball games,
even when their offense isn't there,
even when it's a close game.
And again, they are two wins away from meeting the satisfactory point
that we had put out there for this 13-game stretch.
We had said that at the very least they needed to win eight games.
They have three games left here against the Rockies
and three games left against the Giants.
It seems very doable to at least reach that eight-game plateau.
I want a sweep.
through it. Well, we lost one. How about 12? You don't know sweep in the Rockies, right? I'm saying like a sweep of
the rest of the way. You're saying go 12 and 1. I'm saying 12 and 1. Yeah. Sweep the rest of the games.
I mean, these teams suck, Derek. Let's call it like it is. Like I let's stop dancing around it.
These teams stink as I put a black screen on the screen for everybody.
Well, there's some talk because trust me, I had to hear all about Jack's article. I sat next to Jack all
night in the press box while the
Oh, okay. I'm just taking, I'm stealing the show now. Yeah, you're still in the show for me, but I was
just saying, producer masterclass out of me. There, there's been a discussion about the attendance.
Damon, attendance was obviously poor tonight, 14,000 and change at Chase Field for a series
against Colorado Rockies to the surprise of nobody, right? Like, again, the, the unfortunate,
the unfortunate truth to this town is that the Diamondbacks do get a lot of,
attendance from opposing fan bases. And that's just the way things work in this city. I wish it wasn't
that way, but it is. And yeah, even though attendance isn't dreadful and atrociously down,
there are some things that are factoring in like ticket prices and concession prices and such.
I mean, I'll be the first to say, even if given free tickets, I'm still dropping $100 plus on a night at the
ballpark, right? So it's not cheap. Even if you, even if you, even
if you get tickets conned.
But I will say that...
I mean, it's cheap compared to the rest of the sport.
It's actually not.
Like, Diamondbacks used to be like the lowest in baseball.
And now they're...
That was like as of two years ago.
Yeah, but now they're not there anymore.
I mean, I'm saying like the value...
The value dog, the value tickets.
You can still have a pretty affordable night at Chase Field.
For sure.
For sure.
But at the same time, too, the Diamondbacks...
I think I'm going to try to go on Saturday.
Here's what I will say.
The Diamondbacks have put out a product on the field.
for the last two years that may have people a little disinterested or not really believing in
this team. Plus, you know, this was a, I mean, I guess a not a disappointing April,
but the way that things ended in April and the way that may began, you know, things were
looking down for this team. So this bounce back is nice. They've had five wins in a row. And I
think that's going to help quite a bit when it comes to, you know, this attendant situation.
This town loves a winner and if this team can keep winning the fans will come back to the stadium regardless of ticket prices
But with things being higher the Diamondbacks revenue is fine even with the drop in attendance overall
I feel like you know attendance has have we not seen a rise in attendance the last couple of seasons
I mean you would say that maybe the 24 season there was a rise in attendance but I thought there wasn't 25 as well maybe I'm wrong
But I feel like you know this this town is building a stronger base when it's
it comes to Diamondbacks fans in particular.
It's such a young franchise.
We talk about that all the time on this show.
But I, you know, I obviously not the greatest weekend.
2 BMC, I think puts it in here like no Dodgers Padres Cubs series yet.
It sucks that we have to somewhat rely upon what teams and opponents that we play.
But, you know, it's not like you've had your, your massive series so far.
Yeah.
And that probably has a little bit to do with it.
If you're, if you're trying to find an exact reason.
I'm going to be honest, I don't care about attendance because I care about Ws.
I care about wins and that's what we got tonight. Diamondbacks, of course, win this one.
Johnny Walker. I thought I was right saying that, but yeah, there's been an increase.
Okay. Nolan, I mean, one of their lowest, like attended games was last year, but it's, you know, this year overall is also a very young year, too.
So we're here in May 20th, and we're talking about attendance being down like it's going to be some sort of problem throughout the season.
It'll only be a problem if this team doesn't find a way to win.
But right now during the time when they're supposed to struggle without these guys that they're currently missing, they're not struggling.
They're winning a whole lot of baseball games.
They're doing it through their starting pitching staff, which has been the most impressive thing.
But they also got some great defense tonight, including in the fifth inning, where it really felt like things we're going to do, like we're going to talk about.
Erod's night. He was cruising through this game. And then he got to the fifth inning. And the
Diamondbacks both got some amazing defense and some terrible defense and then some more amazing
defense. It started with Nolan Aronado making an incredible play in the fifth inning that robbed
Keros of a hit and kept Tovar on second after he doubled to lead off the inning. And that was this
whole there there was this whole foot race thing with Ildomarovar Vargas. Unfortunately, Erod with the way
that he pitches and the way he falls off the mound, he doesn't exactly get him.
over to first as fast as most pitchers. Vargas kind of had to take a ball that he probably should
have let Cotel field and throw over to him. Instead, he fielded the ball, and then he had to kind of
get into a foot race that he lost getting over to the bag. That was kind of bad defense. But
Braxton Fullard bunted, and then Erod fielded the ball perfectly and came home to Moreno,
who applied the tag on Tovar for the out at home, and that prevented any runs from scoring in the
inning and then Corbyn Carroll finished it up with some great speed and right field to catch a
line out from Troy Johnston and that was very good Damon because according to stat cast and baseball
savant Johnston's hit had an expected batting average of 770 it totally looked like it was going
to fall in for a hit and Corbin just uses his speed to beeline right towards it and make the out so
some good defense there in the one inning where errod looked like he was going to be a little shaky
giving up that lead off double in the inning
and instead he's able to
get out of things once again without allowing
any runs. But great night tonight
Cateau-Marte, two for four
with a walk. He's still hot.
Even though the rest of the offense kind of
cooled off. He had Corby and Carroll
delivering the most important hit of the game going one for five.
He had both of the RBIs in this game
and he also had two strikeouts.
Pardomo walked twice
and was O for two. And then you got
Gabriel Moreno going one for three
and his walk being kind of the biggest of the night,
as far as putting a base runner on base
and giving this team an opportunity to win,
which they capitalized on and did so.
And yes, John in the chat is bringing up Erod's 2.24 ERA.
Yeah.
Just as we thought would happen this year, Damon, just as we planned.
Michael Soroka and Eduardo Rodriguez, we all knew they were the one, too,
in this starting rotation.
We all knew that they were the guys that we were most confident in.
to carry us all season long.
And all jokes aside,
Erod not being in the All-Star game
would be an absolute travesty at this point, right?
Like, I mean, obviously there's time to go.
It's May 21st.
You know, we have another month there, essentially.
We have June in 10-ish days before the All-Star break.
So E-Rod's got some starts ahead of him.
But, like, if he can keep this going,
and he's been unfreeking believable.
We're more than halfway there.
Yeah.
I know that Mighty Schumann's right.
Like long way to go.
I feel like I outlined that.
But like we're more than halfway to it.
And so far we're going to the, you know, midway point right now.
He's an all star.
Yeah.
Isn't that wild to think about?
I mean, again, based off of what he's done the first couple years in Arizona.
I think the more impressive thing about Erod this year has.
been the way that he's been able to get through outings where he doesn't have his best stuff
rather than when he does. Like tonight, his fastball was on point and he used it a lot. I've kind of said
in the past, I don't really like when Errod uses his fastball as much as he did tonight. But I guess
I'll just shut my stupid mouth about that because when he can command it like he did in this one,
then he can use it as much as he wants as far as I'm getting to. But we're going to talk about that
on the other side of this break. Don't you guys go anywhere? You're watching the PHNX time

All right, well, the Arizona Diamondbacks got another quality start here from Eduardo Rodriguez.
And after a rough outing, his last time here against the Rockies, Rodriguez was incredible
tonight.
He was locked into a pitcher's duel with Rockies reliever, Zach Agnos,
who was somehow once again the second coming of Greg Maddox tonight.
But Errod was perfect in this game until the fourth inning
when he allowed his first base runner by way of a walk.
And even then, it shouldn't have been a walk.
It was a three-two count.
Ball four was actually a strike.
If they would have challenged it, and they were good on challenges tonight,
I'm not going to knock them for that.
They were three for four.
But it did feel like specifically in the first,
inning to a couple of batters.
And then here, in this moment, it felt like the Diamondback should have been using
their challenges even more than they did because I feel like, once again, it was another night
where the home plate on par was having a little bit rough night behind the plate.
But in the fifth inning, he did give up a leadoff double, like I said earlier to Ezekiel Tovar,
who was eventually tagged out at home in the inning by that wonderful play made by Eduardo
Rodriguez and Gabriel Moreno.
And despite that inning being a mess, Erod, you know, it's important to realize.
as Erod and the defense stranded a lead off double and kept the score at zero.
And they also had to use a mountain visit just to kind of give Erod a little bit of a breather there,
Damon, because things got crazy for him in that hitting, running around, trying to get guys at home.
But Erod went very heavy fastball mix tonight.
And it worked for him.
Like I said, his fastball was on point.
His four seam maxed out at 94.5 miles per hour.
He got six whips with it.
He got one on his changeup and he used the fastball.
nearly 60% of the outing tonight.
I said I didn't like Erod going over 40%.
And he went, he's 58% forcing usage tonight.
He also used his change up to complement the four seam,
21% of the time.
And then everything else was distant to those two pitches.
The cutter 8%, curb ball 7%, sinker 6%.
But again, he was just locating with his four seam.
And as you can see, he was kind of able to throw it everywhere.
Everywhere he wanted to, in and out of the zone.
And it just worked for him.
Work for him really well.
And I think we have more from Erod here in the clubhouse.
Damon, what do we got?
Yeah, we got Erod here on his outing tonight.
Yeah, let's hear from Eduardo Rodriguez on his wonderful outing.
Good.
Good.
I thought of those working great today.
I got some power on in him.
Me and Morina, like, got a good plan of it.
And we went out there and executed, you know?
I guess compared to the way you felt the last outing a little bit better, huh?
Yeah, I mean, all they were saying.
I said my last start against then over there.
I don't have any pitch working.
It was a fastball a little bit.
But today everything was working.
We used a lot of change.
We got a lot of grand balls.
And we used the fastball a lot today.
So I feel like everything was working way better
than the last start over there.
Definitely was.
And tonight, Erod gave the Diamondback seven innings,
giving up four hits and no runs.
Kind of amazing.
He walked one, struck out four.
And, I mean, this pitching staff
continues to give this Diamondbacks team a chance to win nearly every single night.
Their offense might not, but tonight, you know, once again, a starting pitcher went out there,
gave the Diamondbacks a quality start this time.
No, no runs, right?
Eduardo Rodriguez gives the Diamondbacks their 12th quality start in the team's last 16 starts
dating back to May 5th, aka hashtag the meeting.
So, I mean, again, I don't-
Broad was good before hashtag the meeting.
He was the only one that was.
Yes.
But so like he's a little bit of, I feel like, even separate from everybody else.
That's fair.
I will say this.
I came across a surprising stat based on someone's response tonight because they said like they felt
like the Diamondbacks didn't get any quality starts at all last year.
And I think that that's how our memory might remember, you know, our memory thinks of things,
how we remember how it last season went,
but last season,
so many games were spoiled by the bullpen.
It wasn't the starting pitching staff
that struggled to go deep into games.
I mean, they were bad too,
but the bullpen was so bad.
This is like it was tragic.
Check this out.
The Diamondbacks had 68 quality starts in 2025.
That was the sixth most in Major League Baseball.
So I know they're getting a lot right now,
but it's also something that they were able to do last year.
What changed this year,
I think has been the bullpen, right?
The bullpen holding the games down and not blowing things.
I mean, you can even blame the radio guys tonight
for the way that the Juan Murillo inning went
because right before he came into the game,
they were talking on the radio during this game
about how you can just hand this game off to the bullpen
now and be confident that they're going to win it for you.
So like when you talk about me cursing this team,
you better spread that level around to everyone else.
Juan Murillo has not.
had not been used very much.
And his usage obviously impacted his performance tonight.
It sucks because Erod deserved the win in this game.
That's just it.
The way that he pitched tonight, he deserved the win.
But again, the Diamondbacks as a whole get the win.
And Rodriguez made it clear that they don't really care right now
about how many games they win in a row
or how many wins he gets as long as the team is winning games.
and this is what he had to say about getting two walk-offs this week
and a five-game winning streak.
Everything, man.
Every time you get a walk-off, it's just special for us a team, you know.
Like, that's something that we all will celebrate.
We always want somebody want to beat a hero,
and we haven't had them in the last two games this week.
So it's just something that we're not allowed to see,
and I just want to continue.
I think that's all in there that's stood out for you guys.
Is it again?
Five wins on the right?
I mean, I don't count well if you want to keep winning, you know.
But we've got to keep winning,
and allow it that's a lot of it.
give for us we just thinking about go out there and execute it and put the gain and win the gains
and we win fire ready so i'll hopefully just keep counting more well again uh it got shaky because
juan came into the game and didn't really have great control tonight i also pulled juan's um pitch
chart here uh damon if you could throw that up like you can just kind of see here how you know kind
of all over the place won was he didn't have any control uh in tonight's game and
I mean, some of those pitches at the very least, the ones landing right there on the edge.
I mean, those are pretty damn good pitches.
The problem is, is that so many of these that you see here are uncompetitive when it came to what the batters were seeing and what they had to do against him.
I mean, these are crazy.
They're nuts, right?
Yeah.
He loaded the bases and then proceeded to hit a batter to walk in the Rockies only run in this game on a hit by pitch.
Yeah.
And then Yoshi's right, though.
Like even though it was bad, it wasn't debilitatingly bad.
I mean, you were able to, obviously, it was a tough situation for Kevin Inkel to come into.
But, you know, Murillo still got an out.
He wasn't necessarily giving hitters a chance to do anything.
He was just kind of really wild, which has been a problem with him in the past.
Well, and it, yeah, but it's him not being wild this year is why he's had so much success.
Absolutely.
So it's a little bit concerning, but not fully there yet.
Now, what you could, you could absolutely blame.
it on what's been going on with this team, right? I know people always want to blame everything
on Tori, and yeah, Tori deserves his share of blame for this, but he told us before the game
that innings for the bullpen have been at a minimum because of how good the starting
pitching staff has been this year. Like, over this stretch that we're discussing, the Diamondbacks
have been getting six or seven plus out of their pitchers every single night, meaning that at the most
Torre's had to go to his bullpen for three innings, right?
With Paul Seawald being the closer, he's the obvious guy that's going to come in
in the ninth in so many instances like he did tonight.
But it makes spreading the innings around a bit difficult.
And it makes sure, you know, making sure that everybody's pitched recently becomes a tough,
you know, juggling act, right?
And Tori talked about it after the game.
Here's Tori talking about the balance between good starting pitching and that having an
impact on the amount of innings he has for his bullpen arms.
Yeah, it gets a little challenging when your starters are doing what they're doing,
and there's some dry spells.
You know, RT hasn't thrown in a couple days, so it's a nice problem to have,
but you want to get everybody involved and keep them sharp.
And, you know, it is a challenge, but it's a good part of the game.
Your starters need to carry that workload.
They're the marathon runners, and the sprinters come out and finish it off for you,
but we'll be in a good spot tomorrow.
and we need to just continue just to mix up the usage and spread out the usage.
I think we've done a really good job with that in the first month and a half of the season
where I've been totally relying on two or three guys.
I think there's an enormous workload that they've spread around down there.
Obviously, too, Damon, the big thought here is that, you know,
a lot of people are supporting Juan Murillo in the chat,
and that is that, you know, he still wasn't awful.
It still didn't become a disaster because of Kevin Ginkle.
ability to come in and shut the inning down without allowing any more runs to score. But
at the same time, you know, we're so back. It sucks to, it sucks to see this for Mordio,
right? It sucks to see that he basically had like five days off and then he comes in and is struggling
to get his, you know, control together. Yeah, yeah. I mean, he's obviously been the best pitcher in
the bullpen so far this year for the Diamondbacks. So, you know, if he was to maybe start declining a little bit
and getting a little bit more wild like we've seen in years past,
that would be concerning.
And that would be a big knock here on the bullpen.
Hopefully, you know, the Diamondbacks have guys coming back like AJ Puck that will mitigate
that a little bit.
But also, I'm not, I'm not saying I'm out on one real.
I'm just saying that that would be bad news for this team because he's been that good
this season.
And, yeah, I mean, he's, it's one bad game.
but if you listen to Tori in the in the post game,
doesn't sound like any belief has been lost in Juan Murillo.
2.25 ERA for Juan Morio this year.
And yeah, like Tori was purposefully trying to stay away from him
because Juan's already pitched in 22 games this year.
I mean, that's a lot of games.
And when he talks about spreading, you know,
now having this problem with how many innings he has to divvy up
amongst his bullpen arms,
I mean, it's vastly different.
than what was going on with this team before hashtag the meeting.
And now, you know, again, has some, some, a little bit of a problem attached to it.
Doesn't feel like Tori, though, is giving up on Juan by any stretch of the imagination.
He said that Juan would pitch, we'll pitch tomorrow.
Here's what Tori had to say about Morillo's availability.
Sometimes it happens in this game.
You know, like I said, we got after him pretty heavy.
And we want to give him a little bit of a blow.
and he's going to get the baseball again.
You know, we'll figure out who's available tomorrow when we get to the ballpark,
but he's going to be available.
I know that, and I'm not going to run away from him.
He's got great stuff, and he's going to get some big outs for us.
So there you go.
I mean, Tori still has that belief, as I think many of us still do.
Like, this is one bad outing, but still, two hits, one earned run, one walk, one strikeout,
2.25 BRA.
No need to panic just yet.
Yeah.
No, I don't think that.
anyone is panicking. And just because we're talking about it on the post game show doesn't mean that
the sky is falling or Derek and Damon of lost belief in Juan Murillo. It's just a topic of conversation.
He gave up, you know, the only run tonight. He didn't look great, which he's been phenomenal.
He's been elite all season long. So, you know, not not saying like, you know, panic buttons out on
Juan Murillo, but, you know, definitely not his best tonight. Also, Kevin Ginkle certified
bonafide stud to come into this game and clean that situation up.
Incredible what he's able to do.
I mean,
unreal.
I mean,
just unreal,
especially with runners on base,
runners in scoring position.
Sorry to,
sorry to get in your way there.
It was just such a spiritual performance,
Derek.
Like,
I get emotional every time Kevin Ginkle has a performance like that.
It reminds me of the good old days,
2023,
the NLCS,
laughing in people's faces.
is like this is what it's all about.
Yeah, this is what it's all about.
Yeah.
And Kevin Ginkle yelling off the mountain tonight, it just takes me back, man.
I mean, hand up in the air, full just prayers waving, screaming amen here at PHNX HQ3.
Yeah.
That was special.
You actually, Gill and Kevin can attest to this who are watching the Merc game and are doing the PHNX Mercury show right now.
I stood up and I started smacking the chairs in front of me and I was like,
let's effing go, Kevin Ginkle.
Yeah, I mean,
electric performance.
He gets that pop out of Hunter Goodman.
And right then,
you just felt like a collective release of,
of anguish and anxiety in the building, right?
And then he somehow gets Ezekiel Tovar to ground out and the Diamondbacks get out of the
inning with only the one run scoring.
And again,
even on the night where they're off.
offense sucked. The only run that they gave up to the Rockies was a run that they literally gave
them, handed to them by hitting a batter and walking. And walking the bases essentially loaded as well.
Right. So anyway, Seawalt comes in, ninth inning, one inning pitched, one strikeout.
Easy peasy. Gets the win, his first win of the season for Paul Seawald doesn't deserve it.
Should be E. Rod's win. But regardless. He's been good, you know. No, he has been good.
good. He has been good and this was a non-save situation, so I'm sure if there's any folks out there
like me, I was chewing on my nails a little bit when he came into the game in a non-save
situation, especially in a tie ball game. But again, excellent job by C-Wald and another
strikeout for the kids. So good for C-Wald. But meanwhile, the Diamondbacks come back in the
bottom of the inning and walk it off and give us this all of this fun, all of this fun. And Sean
says scoble skeins and seawall till I die.
Tattoo it on my face.
Hell yeah.
Hell yeah, brother.
Well, of course, we got our king snake of tonight's game and hard to give it to anybody else.
I know Corbyn Carroll probably deserves honorable mention for this one, but hard not to give
it to Eduardo Rodriguez who went out there, gave the Diamondbacks another quality start,
seven innings pitched, no earn runs, four strikeouts.
I don't know what HA means.
Hits against.
No, four hits against.
Oh, nice. I like that. And 4K and then one walk. So just a good performance overall, a great, great performance. Not good, great performance by Erod. And we're throwing some complicated little acronyms at you there. Yeah, no, that's fine. H.A. QS. Figure it out or don't. We'll explain it. Well, we're going to take a quick break on the other side of this break. We're going to revel in these numbers that are very small from this game. Not not even enough numbers to really put together abide the numbers, but we did it anyway for you. Don't you guys. Don't you guys.

Johnny Walker in the chat says,
I have to say again,
I like this team.
Everyone on this roster has done it before or is doing it now.
I really like that point.
I think it,
I think it is like pretty astute and definitely goes to show, you know,
somewhat of the level I think that this roster has when when they're firing on all cylinders.
Yeah.
And John also brings up that we are now two games back in the wild card race with the cards losing two in a row and the Cubs.
I can't see that any.
Imploding because little PCA can't handle a heckle and they have lost five in a row.
PCA got owned by that woman.
It's wild to see.
His entire baseball career might come to an end.
over that interaction with that woman.
But we got some super chats and got some new members.
Yeah, I don't know if these are Merck members or not,

Great night for baseball.
D-Backs one.
ASU baseball is still kicking ass in the Big 12.
Tourney right now.
The same tourney, U of A, isn't in.
Love you, Damon.
Yikes.
Yeah, we had a bad year.
It's pretty much the worst Uve baseball year I can remember in my lifetime.
But you know, you still have, you still have Kevin Ginkle.
Well, I still have reigning back-to-back conference championships the last two years.
We lost all those players.
So it's a rebuilding year.
We'll be back.
Don't worry about it.
ASU baseball is not going to do anything in the tournament.
AZCats G.
G knows that.
And he sends in a $2 super chat.
And he says, King Snake Ginkle.
Just bearing down as always.
Bering down as always.
Well, let's take a look at the numbers from tonight's game
because the Diamondbacks didn't do much,
but neither did the Rockies.
Yeah, and that just shows exactly how little both of these teams did.
Look at Gabby just chugging it, though.
Shugging?
He can keep his helmet on.
He doesn't need a chin strap like for a gobo.
No, that's not true, Derek.
His helmet flew like flew over his head, like right in front of his eyes
when he was diving into home plate.
He couldn't see a thing.
But he still got there.
100%.
Diamondbacks won this one.
by a score of 2 to 1. They had no extra base hits. The Rockies had one extra base hit. The Rockies
were one for seven with runners in scoring position and the Diamondbacks were one for nine. The Rockies
had 11.1% of their balls were hard hit balls, which just goes to show how dominant Erod was
against the squad tonight. Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks, it's not great for their side either. 31.8%
of their balls were hard hit balls. Expected batting average here for these two teams.
Rockies was 201.
The Diamondbacks 172.
And then last but not least,
the one thing that we absolutely kick their ass in
was ABS challenges.
Diamondbacks were three for four tonight.
Gabby was very good tonight once again.
Turning things around.
He's turning things around.
You got to win on the margins there.
Yeah, you're right.
And this is what it's all about tonight.
ABS challenges, clearly.
You are right about that.
And the Rockies, oh for one.
They finally used their first challenge there in the ninth inning and lost it.
But an interesting fact I came across when it came to this team because I think we really view them as struggling offensively.
And there is one statistic that I was shocked at, which is barrel rate percentage per plate appearance.
The Diamondbacks are second in Major League Baseball in barrels percentage per plate appearance.
or you know, that's, they're barreling up the ball a lot.
Interesting.
But unfortunately, I think that what comes with barreling up the ball a lot is swinging a lot.
You know, they're swinging.
And that was probably the downside to what we watched in this game and has been over this stretch of their wins is you still see their chase rate at a very, very high amount.
And they're just chasing a lot of pitches outside of the zone.
zone. At times, it's frustrating to see them chasing such bad pitches. Lordus Curiel had some
bad chases, I think, you know, Walschmidt also did, especially in that ninth inning at bat. But
again, overall here, this offense is finding a way to get things done. What was impressive, I think,
was on a night where they were kind of dominated by one pitcher. You know, they, you could, you could tell
the, I guess, sense of urgency changed once Agnos left the game and the Diamondbacks got into
the Rockies bullpen. They saw an opportunity there to go after anybody but that man. And, you know,
again, they put together a few opportunities there late, but then they're in the ninth. They finally
were able to break through and take the lead for good. So great to see overall this team find
ways to win. And once again, as we've said about this team throughout this year, great
for them to find a way to win another close game,
another one-run game, Damon.
Just, I don't know.
I feel like that shows that this team is so much better
than they were last year.
We don't know what the record's going to be.
We don't know how things are going to go.
It's still only May 21st,
but of all the things that I'm encouraged by the most
is how this bullpen is able to help this team win one-run games
and hold those games close.
Yeah, I mean, definitely that feels like a huge, huge difference in between what happened last year and what really kept the Diamondbacks out of the postseason last year versus what has kept them relevant this year because they don't really have a lot of the blowout wins.
That's why we've been talking about their run differential being looking like what it has for a while because they've gotten blown out.
And conversely, they've won a lot of close games.
and this year you're getting a lot of the close wins right now.
You want to see the offense wake up, but these are momentum building.
And at the end of the day, like, what's important is getting wins in that W column,
not what the cumulative score of your entire season is.
That's an indicator of maybe how truly successful of a team you are.
But at the same time, the M.O.B. Postseason is not about who the best team is over the course of the regular season.
Otherwise, the Dodgers would be 17 times.
champions. Right. Like it's about making it through the regular season. Getting through that
spot. Absolutely. And being hot at the right time. And then getting hot at the right time,
even sometimes. Like you, the Diamondbacks were not hot in 23. No. They got hot when they won
game one. And then they got out to a lead in game two. And they started being like, okay. And then
game three starts at home. And Dodgers hands think they're going to take over our stadium and we're
hitting bombs left and right. And then the team is like, are we going to lose ever again? I don't think so.
And that's why we get to the World Series.
So these wins are momentum building.
I feel like we talk about the 23 season, like it's a big win.
Like they were so much better in 23.
Yeah.
When they were clearly better in 24 at least.
Well, they needed that help at the end.
They almost did what they did in 24 and 25 in 23.
24.
They had a lot of a record.
And they had to basically wait to see if they would make the playoffs or not.
They needed other teams to lose in order for them to make that postseason and have that
incredible run. Everything they did almost didn't happen just based on the fact that once again,
they weren't able to clinch those games late in the season. They got help. Yeah. And in 24, they,
they got the opposite of that because the Mets were on on fire, right? Like there was teams winning
left and right that were taking that spot. And then the Braves and Mets play Patty Cake for a, you know,
a rescheduled game. But he got smoked by the Padres. Well, that's that aside. We got smoked by the
Padres AAA team, which was unacceptable.
But, like, people talk about the Diamondbacks collapsed down that stretch.
It felt like that.
And that loss in particular, which I was at in mind you, no one experienced that loss like
me.
No, while Padre's fans were high-fiving over top of me.
No one took that loss.
And I'm sitting there, like, watching Kyle Hagashioka run around the bases.
But the, you know, that season, like the team was clearly a lot better than the 2023
year overall.
But they, I think they went like 11 and 10 or 10 and 11 in their final 20-ish games.
Are you talking about 24?
Yeah, yeah.
Like it wasn't as bad as it was made out to be.
Right.
It was just loud because they had a high chance of making the postseason and it didn't end up
happening.
And the other teams that they were going against were so hot.
In 23, they got a lot of luck on their side because it didn't.
Wasn't it the Astros that like went and beat the team that need the Diamondbacks needed
to lose on the last day and helped us get into the post season?
the last day of those season.
Yeah.
So you need luck on your side, but you need wins, first and foremost.
And winning baseball games right now feels good.
You know what I don't love?
You know what I don't love?
You know who their final three games are against the season?
The goddamn Padres.
I thought you were about to say the Dodgers, but no, I think that feels maybe even worse.
This is the third year in a row that our final series of the years against the Padres.
I'm fairly certain.
Well, we can either hope one of two things.
We knock them out of the postseason or they've already.
already got it clinched by then and they roll out their AAA squad and this time it's different.
This time we don't let them win.
Yeah, I don't know what that Padre's team is doing.
But I mean, if they get bought by the owner of Chelsea, we're in for another.
No, I mean, Derek, if you have any idea of what's going on with Chelsea right now.
I know.
It just sounds like a lot of money.
I can't deal with that.
We're going to take a quick break on the other side of this break.
We're going to take a look at the standings, talk about where everybody's at.
And more importantly, see where ESPN is ranking one, Ryan Walschman.
for their top 50 prospect rankings with a brand new prospect ranking out.
We're going to do all that here shortly.
Don't you go anywhere.
You're watching the PHNX Diamondback Show.
Well, if you are ever involved in an accident or serious injury, you got to do your research
because the lawyer you hire does matter.
Mark and Alexis Breyer are the husband and wife law team, and they are who you should contact
first.
Because after serious injury, you want to hire an attorney that's focused on your best outcome
and not how much money the firm makes.
That's the husband and wife law team.
their team brings hundreds of years of combined trial experience,
along with multiple certified specialists in personal injury and wrongful death.
And again, that's so important because in the state of Arizona,
there are not very many specialists in injury and wrongful death.
In fact, the state bar certified less than 1% of all lawyers as specialists in the field,
making them experts.
Plus, they actually go to trial for their clients.
They know what needs to be done to prevail in a courtroom in front of a jury
and are willing to do so for you to ensure you win.
Now, they cannot guarantee the outcome of any case, but they can make promises to you as their client,
including that you can cancel their fee agreement with them at any time for any reason.
You'll receive as much in your pocket as they do for their attorney fees,
even if they have to reduce their fees to do so.
And you may speak with one of their lawyers as often as you choose about anything you want to discuss,
including the low attendance at Chase Field.
So if you've had a serious injury, call the husband and wife law team first at 602-783-8-8-4841,
or visit their website at the link in our show notes and tell them,
PHNX sent you.
And let me tell you,
there is a certain time
where you have to have a certain level of class.
And Damon's brought this to my attention.
Thank you, Derek.
I am not going to be smirch the good name
of non-Hulio or this very fancy bottle
that we have here.
So even though I'm not touching the bottle,
I refuse to touch the bottle.
I'm not special enough to touch the bottle.
I'm going to put on these damn gloves
so that I can hold the bottle up, Damon,
and appease you because here we have
the trophy.
for legends on and off the field
from Don Julio 1942.
Special.
With the biggest sporting event in the world
coming right here to our backyard,
ever heard of it.
I've got a toast with the icon of celebration.
And that is Don Julio 1942
during the World Cup.
I want to kiss this box,
but again,
I feel like that would make me holding it
with white gloves,
like,
um,
not seem like I was taking it seriously.
So you can take one of these beautiful bottles home with you.
Uh,
there is a trophy.
for everyone, including the original.
That's the icon of celebrations.
This beautiful trophy that Damon and I plan on winning,
depending on which World Cup team we pick.
This is for legends on and off the field.
And then they even have a mini for small but iconic moment.
So take home a special edition of Don Julio, 1942,
that honors the artistry of tequila making a symbol as timeless as the beautiful game itself,
inspired by the FIFA World Cup trophy.
From stadiums to street parties,
this release of this bottle and the other.
other two models are close to the heart of culture where football, fashion, and flavor glide.
It's made for those who move the moment forward, turning every celebration into a legacy.
Whether you're at your favorite spot or just stocking up at home, make it a Don Julio, 1942.
I'm going to put it back with the one glove before that.
That's a risky proposition.
Next time I'd love to see two hands on it.
The glove was an improvement, but I don't want to see us try that with one hand again.
Derek, I did kind of have a thought as you were doing that Don Julio.
bad read. And in, you know, I'm now like, this is how I, how I am. This is how I operate. A little,
you know, transformation into my brain for a second. Let's hear it. I am a part of two of the
five shows that this company does on a daily basis, five full shows. That means that I have two
opportunities, two opportunities to get this Don Julio, 1942 bottle in my name, which is,
is a 40% chance.
Now, I don't want to be dramatic, but if I don't win with the, like, this is the
benefit of working two jobs here, I guess, but if I don't win, I'm going to probably quit
and never show my face in here again.
Like, that's how much this means to me.
Is that dramatic?
No, no, no, no.
But, I mean, I mean.
I mean, it's 1942, dog.
I feel like with your knowledge of soccer
that you have like a 50-50 chance of winning.
Do we get to pick our team?
I thought it was a randomly assigned type of situation.
You know, but I will say this,
using Steiner Math from pro wrestling,
I feel like you have a 33 and a third chance of winning,
but you also somehow have a 66 and two-thirds chance of winning
because you're Damon Dog, right?
but Samoa Joe, he has a 33 and a third chance of winning.
That means Kevin minus your 25% chance of winning,
has an 8 and a third chance of winning.
But then you take your 75% chance of winning
and then add in 66 and 2 thirds chance of winning,
and you have a 141 and 2 thirds chance of winning this bottle, Damon.
I think that's how it works.
But let's see, I mean, this sounds like us trying to figure out
if the Diamondbacks are going to make the playoffs
when we're sitting here talking about this being May 21st, right?
It's crazy.
It might not make a lot of sense,
but let's take a look at the standings just for fun.
Our guy John brought it up in regards to the wild card hunt.
So if we're going to start talking about the wildcard hunt,
let's get crazy and just talk about where these teams are at in their divisions, Damon.
I think just pulling up, I know we don't have our official graphic altogether.
We're not calling it the N-Hell West anymore because-
Oh, I'm not making a graphic.
No, we're not making a graphic.
This is going to be an impromptu.
And the N-Hell title belongs to the Central right now, I believe,
because that division seems to be more of a hellish situation
with every team being above 500.
But, you know, the Diamondbacks win tonight,
and they are, like I said, in fact, the hottest team in the National League.
The Diamondbacks are on a five-game winning streak.
The only other team that would be close is the Milwaukee Brewers
who have won three in a row and the Braves who have also won three in a row.
But meanwhile, the other very hot teams in baseball include the Tampa Bay Rays,
who have won four in a row and are now in first place in the ALE East,
and the Cleveland Guardians who are nine and one in their last 10 games,
winning six in a row and kind of have a little bit of a chokehold on the A.L. Central.
A lot of weird things in baseball, Damon.
The American League is kind of getting smashed when you look across baseball.
like the AL West only has one single team with a winning record right now.
The athletics are 26 and 24.
Meanwhile, every other team in that division below 500.
You have every team in the NL East besides the Braves also at 500 or below.
And then you have our division, which seems like it's always going to be competitive.
The NL Central, which is crazy.
And yeah.
The Mets might be back though.
The Phillies are definitely.
the Phillies might make the playoffs.
I'm a little bit mad about how that Philly situation has gone.
For real.
Because the diamond back's like,
we're now in the thick of a wild card hunt.
And I'm like,
well,
they have six all stars and a lot of momentum.
So that sucks.
I thought that they were cooked.
And I don't know how to quantify the wins against them either
because it's pre,
you know,
pre-dawn,
right?
Pre-Dawn Mattingly over there.
So I don't know if,
uh,
if,
if that was a good team or a bad team.
I kind of said it.
You know, we were excited that the Diamondbacks did so well on that East Coast road trip
and took two out of three against the Phillies.
But, you know, when you get to the end of April and you look back at the records that the Mets
and the Phillies and other teams that we beat had, it was hard to start looking at those wins
as being as significant as they were.
The same could be said about this 13 game stretch the Diamondbacks are currently performing
against, right?
Like, it's not like we feel like this 13 game stretch was going to actually define if
this team was a postseason team. It was more that if they came out of this 13 game stretch with
like a losing record, even though it would be the end of May, it might be start, it might be
time to start thinking of this team as a team that is not going to make the playoffs. Right.
So, you know, overall, I still feel like we have to see what this team can do against the best
teams in baseball. So far, you know, they got blown out in the opening series there and got
swept by the Dodgers and they split that series with the Braves. That's I feel like the biggest
litmus test so far against the best teams in baseball. But they kind of got smashed by the Cubs as well.
So there's still some doubt as far as what this team can do against the better teams of baseball.
But that this Diamondbacks team becomes a different team when AJ Puck and Corbyn Burns returns to it.
So that definitely makes it feel like what we're seeing right now isn't going to be the same team that's competing potentially for, you know, a playoff spot come August and September.
Anything stand out to you, Damon, as far as the schedule goes or the standings go right now and what these other teams are doing?
No, I just want to keep stacking these wins against the Giants and Rockies.
What we have these games in front of us.
And let's keep the main thing, the main thing.
Let's go one game at a time.
And I think that's what the best teams do, right?
they treat each game as if it's a, you know, world series type game and just go one game
out of time.
But I also want to say shout out to classic stang lover who might be here in this chat,
who also became a member.
Let's go.
Awesome stuff.
Great.
Gaining some members today, even if it's on the Mercury side, we love to see it over here
at BHNX Sports.
Absolutely.
Absolutely.
And we even got he should not be named showing up late, Derek, and saying at this rate,
Tori's going to retain his job.
He is.
he is and no one's more happy than killer X
because he's probably going to get
relevant it keeps him relevant truly
who would you have to feud who even are you
without Kitt without Tori Lavolo
have you watched the Punisher
one last kill thing
you'll wake up empty yeah that would be killer X
like with all of his goals in life accomplished
what would you wake up to besides the ghosts
of your past tormenting you
yeah I don't know
I will say this though
the Diamondbacks are
fun team to watch right now. And we should come, you should come watch them with us. We're going to
have some fun times. We have two takeovers that we're doing here coming up on June 4th, Thursday, June
4th. We are taking on the Los Angeles Dodgers. And then on Tuesday, August 25th, we are taking

One last thing, Damon
before we get out of here, like I said, ESPN
updated their ranking
of the best prospects in Major League
Baseball. The Diamondbacks still
only had one prospect on
their list in the top 50.
It is Ryan Waldschmidt, and Ryan Waldschmidt went from previously being ranked in the top 100 by ESPN at number 63 to being upgraded to 21st in Major League Baseball.
Ryan Waldschmidt is the 21st overall prospect.
And he, like I said, he's the only debacks prospect in ESPN's top 50 ranking.
Not going to be a prospect too much longer.
I have a feeling he's going to stick around and stay on this team.
but pretty cool to see Walschmidt getting that acknowledgement.
Considering what he's given this team at a major league level since being here,
you know, he doesn't even feel like a prospect.
He just feels like a free agent, the Diamondbacks acquired, right?
I mean, I don't even feel like we're having that, you know,
you go through your ups and downs with a guy getting called up like this.
But still, I just feel like we instantly saw Walshmit giving us better at bats
and giving us better
offense than what we were getting out of
Alec Thomas. So great to see
overall. And yeah,
21st, good for Ryan Walschman.
Yeah.
Love it. Love to see our guy getting
shown some love, Derek.
And I think it just kind of
plays into what we've seen thus far
in his career, which is
this guy belongs. This guy's a baller.
This guy's going to be a staple
of the organization for a very, very long
time to come. And he looks
every bit apart.
Like even if, and I saw someone saying this yesterday in our post game, like,
there are times where maybe he gets overpowered by a 100 mile per hour fastball.
I think that that stuff will come a little bit.
You know, you don't see a lot of triple digit throwers in college baseball or in, you know,
the minor leagues, maybe more than you used to.
But, you know, that's more of a major league thing.
But I really like the way that, you know, he feels like he has a great played approach.
he takes pitches he takes walks and when he hits the ball like you see when he connects with it it's it goes
hard off the bat like it's it's you know 107 off the bat last night when he hits that double and you're
sitting there and you're like okay that this is a this this is how hard a really good major league hit or
hits the baseball when he when he lands it so i feel like ryan waldschmidt is just like
this is just more confirmation that everybody else is seeing exactly what we're seeing so far in his
early Diamondbacks career.
And I'm excited for the future of Walschmidt, Lawler, Carol.
I mean, it feels pretty special.
And Tori gave us an update before the game, by the way.
And it sounded like Lawler is taking, he's in the batting cage, taking swings,
trying to build up his hand strength at this point.
But everything is on pace for him to return.
So far, it sounds like there are no setbacks besides Carlos Santana,
who got set back in his abductor strain.
injury, but he's been taking swings and hacks off the T and such. So it sounds like everybody's
doing okay, but again, it's going, things are going to get complicated. Guys are going to be
kind of fighting for a spot here when players like Lawler and the AJ Pucks and Corbyn's returns.
It's a good problem for this team to have, though. Just kind of like what Tori was saying right now
about the bullpen being in the state that it's in where, you know, you have basically
a bunch of guys that are doing well and the starting pitching staff is doing so well.
They're eating too many innings.
They're eating too many innings.
Yeah.
Damon, one last thing before we get out of here.
And this one's just for the people.
And since you put the work in, I don't want to make you put in the work and not show it.
But we got Corby Carroll giving us his thoughts on hitting the walkoff game winner in tonight's game
and how his team has kind of done over this winning streak.
Here's what Corby and Carroll said.
And here, you guys get to see all of the answers.
Roll that.
Yeah.
I think, you know, to get there, you got to talk about the Joe bats before that.
You know, Moreno and Marte taking really quality of bats.
And then, yeah, you know, Mejia, baseman a couple times now.
You know, that it's a good heater and a good slider as well.
So, yeah, just happy to get the job done.
When you see Gabby, you just mentioned Gabby, he takes in a bat like that.
I mean, eight pitches, is grinding through, it's setting everything up.
What does that say to you as, you know, just seeing your teammates grind like that?
Yeah, I mean, that's the way we need to play.
That's the tone we need to set.
I thought you look at, like, his complete game today, a stolen base,
that at bat, those are just, you know, traits that we want to define us.
What do you think of your ride today?
really good yeah
thought he relied a little bit more
on the four seam
I thought I did a good job
of just kind of mixing them up
obviously can be a little
just interesting seeing an opponent
so close together and so
thought he had a really good game plan and went out and executed it
that one's kind of standing out to you about how you guys have played lately
yeah I mean I think it's been a little bit of everything
I think we've had some really good offensive games
and then we've got a day like today where we don't swing it
but the pitching just, you know, kind of dominates.
And so it's good to see, I think, kind of hitting our stride and played some good baseball.
How do you have to form?
It feels good.
Yeah, I mean, there's a little lump and, you know, but I feel it.
It feels good.
Was it nice to have the day off yesterday?
Yeah, it was.
You know, I think, you know, I just, yeah, if I had to put like a percent on it, I'd say,
I feel like 95 plus percent.
So I think yesterday it was kind of nice to just be able to, you know,
not have that foot turnaround, be able to get a good night of sleep.
And then, yeah.
Great to see Corbyn feeling better.
I know that that, you know, that whole situation with getting hit in the head was so weird.
And I do think that it hurt far more than he was letting on.
I think he was definitely feeling the effects of it.
I talked to J.R. House before today's game, Damon, just because I was curious.
The way that that whole situation went down, I just wanted to ask House if he saw Corbin get hit in the head because I was, like, everything happened so fast.
And it looked like House was kind of blocked by their third baseman. So I thought maybe he didn't see it.
And he gave me the greatest explanation. He basically said, like, usually when as a third base coach, his job is just to, if guy slides or does anything, his job is just to visual.
assess it if the player looks like he got injured or hurt in any way and make a decision as quickly
as possible. And in this case, like, he saw Corbyn slide, he saw Corbyn get hit, and then he saw
Corbyn, like, basically get ready to run into home plate. And he did tell Corbyn to go, but
then he said at the end, he finished it with, if you're able to. And he said, like, he's
never said that before.
That's crazy.
It was just, he was so sympathetic to watching Corbyn just get hit that just out of his mouth
flew, uh, if you're, if you're able to.
Um, but here's one more thing.
I know we're at an hour or 12.
I know it's late and I know Damon and I both want to get out of here, but there is no way
that I am going to let the Damon killer rex leave on such a high note.
So happy, so fulfilled with watching that video of Corbyn.
Well, killer Rex is, he has.
has to live with the fact that Tori Lavolo is, I mean, dare I say, an NL manager of the year
candidate?
I'm feeling that.
So let's hear from Tori on tonight's win, shall we?
Here's what Tori had to say about the dive-up backs getting this walk-off.
Yeah, this is, this team is very versatile.
I think they went into a little bit of their reserve.
We got a lead off hitter on in the last inning, and we pinch bun and you don't see that a lot.
The guys went out there and executed and put it in Corbyn Carroll's hands.
They clearly pitched around Marte to get to Corbyn,
and he went out there and did his thing and won us a game.
So it was a little bit of a grinding night.
It didn't have a great flow to it, didn't feel great,
watching in the dugout.
But we really relied on Erod.
Erod went out there and dialed up seven unbelievable innings
and kept us in the game and walked off the mound with a chance to win.
And then unfortunately, we just couldn't get through that eighth inning.
And for me, you know, it's Corbyn who gets.
gets the base hit.
It's Gabby who gets on via the walk.
But Kevin Ginkle was unreal today.
Kevin Ginkle came in after warming up, getting hot,
and sitting down, reloaded within two or three pitches.
And he came back into the game and got the two big outs.
The pop up the Goodman was a huge out.
Kept it 1-1.
And that's why we won this baseball game.
So it was a great win.
It was a great win.
It was a fighting, grinding, chewing on rocks type of a win.
And it started with Erod, who went out and just executed a really good game plan.
That one's just for you, Rex.
Well, we love you guys.
We thank you guys for stopping by tonight and giving us some of your time.
We'll be back with our final postgame show of the week tomorrow night.
Make sure to join us for that.
In the meantime, you can follow us on social.
I am at Kapp underscore K-man with a K.

and putting it to the banana bread TikTok.
Banana bread at work, bro?
Hell yeah.
Damon Dog is at Damon Dog with a DAWG.
And as always, we're all Damon's dogs.

A piece of Yoshi, by the way.
What time is it for you?
Are you up at like 1.45 in the morning watching this right now?
You're the real sicko around here, but he really is.
He really is.
But we'll see you guys here tomorrow.
Love you.
And remember, kids, baseball is fun, but it's so much more fun when Corbyn Carroll gets his first walk-off hit in nearly two years.
