Erod was a dude tonight.
Tommy Troy was a certified stud and Kattel Marte is him.
We are talking about the Diamondbacks beating L.A. by a score of four to one and we're starting
right now. Light those cactus lights up.
...addition of the P.HNX Diamondbacks host skating show.
Presented by our friends at Circle K.
I hope I'm bothering those losers over at the Mercury podcast next door.
And the Diamondbacks beat the Dodgers by a score of four to one and you cannot hurt me tonight.
There is no hurting me.
Traffic tried to hurt me.
The Italian sausages and the press box tried to hurt me.
Nobody can hurt me because the Diamondbacks win and got a huge start to this four game series with Los Angeles Dodgers.
My name is Derek Mottia again occasionally known H&M.
The HMX.
I am not alone.
I have a man who is very excited on the other side of this camera from me.
Come on.
It is my dog.
It is your dog.
It is the DeBacks dog.
It is Damon Dog, aka Damon Farrell, on the ones and twos tonight.
Damon, big win for this team.
big win for this team.
Is there anything better than beaten the hell out of the Dodgers, Derek?
Truly nothing is better than that.
Especially on a night where this team looked dead in the water once again
after failing to produce any offense in their series sweep by at the hands of the Seattle Mariners.
But of course, they found enough late in this game to win.
And most importantly, pitching got the job done against L.A.
But this show, of course, is the PHA next time and back show.
and this show is brought to you by our friends over at GameTime.
Go sign up right now and use our code of PHNX 365 right now when you do that.
Game Time, we're winning. Excuse me, back 365, we're winning is everything.
We're also brought to you by Game Time.

Yeah, I am definitely in a good mood and Transonic is not wrong.
It is a vastly different vibe than on D-BACs after dark right now.
we are excited about this one.
The Diamondbacks win this one by a score of four to one.
And like Damon said, you can never have enough wins against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Plus, again, the Diamondbacks had a very successful 13 game stretch that was kind of, I don't know.
I mean, a lot of people wanted to make it to be not that big of a deal that they won 11 out of 13 games, right?
But again, it definitely looked like this team might not be as competitive as we thought when we,
he saw them get swept by the Mariners.
However, that is a good Mariners team.
That's a tough ballpark to play in.
And, you know, the debacks were very close in two out of three of those games.
But tonight, this one was close for the majority of the game.
Eduardo Rodriguez was outstanding.
His fastball was outstanding.
And the Diamondbacks pitching staff as a whole was outstanding,
holding the Dodgers to just one run over nine innings.
The defense from this team was outstanding.
Everything was very good.
Except the offense, early on.
There wasn't much offense to speak of for the first five innings in the tonight's game.
The debacks were held to just one hit, which was a double by Corbyn Carroll in the first inning.
And that was kind of good to see against Emmett Sheehan.
You felt like that getting a runner in scoring position early, maybe getting that first run early was going to see this offense turn things around a little bit more, you know, obviously than what we were able to put up there in Seattle in the final two games of that series.
But then again, the Diamondbacks went cold.
They didn't get their second hit of the night until the sixth inning.
And when they did that, something very significant happened.
But first, before we even move on, the Diamondbacks are 32 and 27.
Damon, you know what that means.
Got to send our little friend up the mountain.
Bredomo, go.
That never gets old.
Yeah, the Diamondbacks were held to just one hit for the majority of tonight's game
until the sixth inning when Tommy Troy hit his first home run of his major league career,
a solo home run, 95.6 miles per hour off the forcing fastball from Sheehan in the middle,
upper part of the zone.
And Troy did not miss 392 feet to left field, 102.7 miles per hour off the bat.
And Tommy Troy is here to stay now.
Just like Ryan Walschman, Tommy Troy, you're a diamond back.
And we will not give you back.
we're not giving you back you stay here uh but you love that though derrick you got to love guys
that just they get the call up and they're just undeniable it's what we talked about the opposite
of jordan lawler for all those years yeah where it's like he just didn't really prove that he
you know was earning more abs more playing time and more more time on the field and yet these
guys are going out there and they're performing right away you love to see it absolutely and i mean
i asked to worry about this after the game damon i uh this is one of the first thoughts i
I had, which is not necessarily that minor leaguers come up and immediately become superstars under
Tori Lavallo.
However, you have to look at his tenure and realize that he is a manager that gets a lot out
of the youngsters, those minor leaguers, when they first get up.
Sure, they might regress back to being, you know, whatever they are as a ball player or even,
you know, kind of average as a ball player once they first, you know, debut and, you know,
and stick around for more than a cup of coffee, right?
But from Jose Fernandez to Ryan Walschman to now Tommy Troy,
it's undeniable that the Diamondbacks youngsters are able to come up
and have a big impact and help this team win ball games.
Walshment's done it with both his bat and his glove.
Jose Fernandez is the same.
Tommy Troy tonight, he had a diving catch that he missed there early.
And again, it's done that twice now.
He's done that twice.
Now he is a guy that doesn't typically play the outfield.
he is a converted outfielder, and he has some good defense out there.
We saw that tonight, but we also saw him once again overplay on a dive
and just make a play that you wouldn't necessarily see somebody that had more experience,
make, or maybe they would make that same diving play, but they would actually make it.
Jorge Barrosa, we're going to get to him, but he was a menace tonight in center field,
and he was outstanding defensively for this team.
But I asked Tori again, we're here, about the young players performing when they come up.
well. It seems like he as a manager
is kind of the right man for the job
when it comes to getting the most out
of these guys when they make that
leap from the minors to the big leagues. This is
what he had to say. I make
a very conscious effort to put them into a
situation where not that they are
comfortable, they're complacent on
the field, but they're comfortable in their surroundings
and their own skin. I know how
hard it is for a young player to walk into a clubhouse
and feel like they're on Mars.
So this is their clubhouse and it's very
intentional what we do with young players to
bring them along, make them feel like they're in a good space.
And I've developed relationships with these players from the time they're in A ball.
I'm calling A ball guys today that will be here in two or three years.
So when they do cross that boundary and come into my office or they do walk into this clubhouse,
they've already had some relationships that they've established.
I found that to be interesting, considering that, you know,
Tori doesn't have much to do with the roster decisions,
nor does he give his input in a way where he's trying to influence who the front office calls
up, but he does get in contact with these guys as early as single A ball. So again, that just goes
to show that he's a manager that's willing to do something that other, maybe other managers
aren't willing to do, establish that relationship early and make it comfortable for those
young players to come up. So far, it seems to be working. And then, I mean, the third hit of the
night for the Diamondbacks just so happened to also be a solo home run in the seventh inning,
Nolan Aronado hit an Emmichian first pitch slider for his eighth home run of the season.
This one went 389 feet to left center field, 98.4 miles per hour off the bat.
It's kind of funny considering that the Diamondbacks have had a bit of an issue with power.
They really haven't had a lot of home runs this season.
And when they have produced offensively, it has been by way of small ball, you know, singles, doubles, things like that.
Corbyn Carroll getting triples on the base path.
Corbyn Carroll beating out, you know, double plays and outs that would typically be an out.
But, you know, this night was a home run night for the team.
Because then in the eighth inning with a lead, Diamondbacks at the time are leading by a score of two to one.
Thanks to that Nolan Aronado home run.
Tommy Troy comes up and he bunts for a single with two outs.
So clutch.
So clutch.
So clutch.
cannot say enough about that.
I don't know.
There is something to be said about the amount of pride you have to kind of swallow in order to
bunt the next at bat after you got a home run.
How are you not feeling yourself?
How are you not thinking that you're going to come up and you're now going to hit another
home run and you're second at that, right?
He knew he had Ctele-Marté coming up behind him.
He knew Ketelmarte absolutely smashed left-handed pitching, which is what he was facing at the time.
So he bunts for a single and gets on base, and it is impressive.
Here we have Tori Lavello discussing, giving his thoughts on Tommy Troy's night, Damon.
And good night for Tommy Troy.
Yeah, that's hard to do.
When you're in a big league setting and you're just finding your way and you don't necessarily have a lot of footing in an area, such as left field,
He was drafted as an infielder, and he's been playing the outfield now for a little over a year.
It was an extremely athletic play.
He got a great jump on the ball.
But, you know, diving in that space for a ball you've had to run a long way for, it's hard to do.
So it was a play that I felt like he could have made and he will make in the future.
But to be able to turn the page and say, okay, forget it, chop that up, and go out there and help my team win a baseball game.
And that's a really mature moment.
And he came to us as a very young player, college player,
but he's grown up over these past three years
and it showed up today.
Well, if you are here right now in the chat,
make sure to hit that like button.
It always helps us out a ton.
And, of course, makes me feel good about myself.
Self-esteem is important for me.
But self-esteem is important for Ctele-Marte.
And as much as he was unstoppable for a period of time,
there. Marte also kind of, you know, had his share of struggles over the weekend. You would have,
you really felt like what this team missed over that, that three games sweep to the, at the hands of
the Mariners was a big Marte hit, you know, in all three games.
It felt like he was two hits away from, you know, winning the series for the Diamondbacks by
himself, which is what he's been doing. So it's hard to hold him to that standard. Sure. But you also,
when you go hitless in a series and it's Catell and he's been playing the way.
he has it. It's tough to take, especially when you're that close.
Don't make me start screaming three for 17 again because I will, but also over eight in the,
you know, other extra innings lost to the Mariners. So again, it just felt like in that series,
the Diamondbacks were two hits away from winning that series instead of getting swept.
But tonight, the two to one lead did not feel very comfortable. And Tommy Troy,
buntz to get on, but of course, Cotel Marte needed a big hit. And boy, did he get it. He can't
up and clobbered his 10th home run of the season to put the snakes up by a score of 4 to 1.
It was a 111.9 miles per hour off the bat, 409 feet to left field.
And again, Cotell Marte pretty much sealed the victory at that point.
I mean, no game is truly safe against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
However, the bullpen did their thing tonight.
The entire pitching staff did their goddamn thing.
Sure, but the bullpen is unreal. Unreal.
Especially Taylor Clark, who just quietly does his job.
We're going to get into pitching.
I'm going to gush about the pitching.
They're going to get all their flowers.
I even think we might need to give out three or four kingsnakes tonight, quite frankly.
That's just the way it feels.
We're not going to really do that.
But defensively, the pitching staff got some amazing plays behind them.
And one of the biggest plays happened early on in the second inning.
It felt like when Eduardo Rodriguez was,
was bending and close to breaking, the defense was there like this.
They were just, it was beautiful.
They were just there to pick him up and give him a boost, get him out of the jam, and help
him along.
And when they did that, then you felt like Erod kind of bounced back the next inning
and came back strong.
He had his struggles through the second and third inning of tonight's game.
But again, he just, he was wonderful after that.
And enough can't be said about the ability to kind of bounce back from getting yourself in
those jams, getting yourself out of those jams, having your defense pick you up. And again,
one of the biggest plays came early on in the second with runners on the corners and just won out.
Max Muncie hit a grounder that Ildemarro Vargas picked up. And instead of taking over to first
and letting the run score, he came home with a strong throw to get mooky bets at home.
Moreno made an excellent tag on bets. And that kept the run off the board in that inning and
no run scored. Then again, there was more trouble in the third.
third inning. They did allow one run, but again, another jam that they got themselves out of
where it felt like more runs should have scored. It felt like after three innings, this should
have been a five to nothing baseball game in favor of the Dodgers, and it very much was it.
The reason why the defense behind Eduardo Rodriguez and Erod himself, but Jorge Barrosa was a highlight
reel in center field all night long. I don't care what people say about Jorge Brosa's bat, and I
understand because I'm as frustrated with as bad at times as the rest of you. But damn, if I have,
wouldn't say that this man saved the game tonight several times. You got a great break on a ball hit
by Will Smith in the fourth inning that he caught. He did it again in the fifth inning to rob Andy
Pahis of a hit. And then I made another nice catch on a ball hit by Moogie in the sixth inning. It just
felt like play after play. You were seeing Barrosa all over the place using his speed and his defense to
make some outstanding plays. And then the debacks got a huge inning.
ending double play to get out of the eighth inning with Otani on base.
Right when they just needed those big plays, they found a way to get them.
Huge night overall.
And honestly, this win, like I said, up to a certain point, the Diamondbacks, I mean, had
three hits, three hits.
They were all extra base hits.
Corbyn Carroll's double, Tommy Troy's solo home run, Aronato's solo home run.
And I think to the end of the night, they had five.
And the only hit that wasn't an extra base hit was the Bunt single by Tommy Troy.
just an incredible night tonight from the Arizona Diamondbacks
to make the most of the limited offense they had
and to get some really big home runs when they needed it.
And honestly, in cases where we don't really get home runs,
like this team hasn't really been getting a night like this
where the home runs won the game for them.
But Nolan Aronado, one for three tonight with a home run and an RBI.
Corbid Carroll, one for four, one double.
Ketel Marte, honorable mention for King Snake,
because his home run really did seal the deal, like I said,
one for four with a huge home run and two RBI.
But Our King Snake tonight is the man of the hour, Tommy Troy, two for three,
one home run, one RBI, two runs scored, one bunt single,
and just one amazing knight for this youngster.
Knight, he probably will never forget.
He did get the ball afterwards.
He's going to give it to his dad.
And we will have more on everything from Tommy Troy.
But first, let's hear from Tori on this win and what it means to this team to bounce back after getting swept and beating the top dog in the division.
You want to come out and set a tone and win the first game of the series.
We got them for four days.
And I can be more proud of this group.
We were grinding through some early innings, maybe a little bit of a hangover from the trip up to Seattle.
Sheehan had some really good stuff.
But we just, we kept hanging in there.
We kept fighting.
Clearly, the Tommy Troy home run got us energized and even the score.
And then Aeronado, who continues to just impress me with so many of the things that he's doing to help this team win.
And he does it with a lot of hard work behind the scene.
So he gets a go-ed home run.
And then, you know, the thing that stood out to me about the Marte home run was how Tommy Troy had some situational awareness.
Works extremely hard with Jeff Bannister and the Bunny group and gets on and hands up.
it off to Marta, it's a big tour and home run.
That's high baseball IQ.
It's things we believe in here.
It's things we talk about here, and it shows up.
When it does, it helps you win games and helps you win the margins.
That's where we spend most of our space, and we talk about it all the time.
So that was a pretty special moment for this ball club to stretch that lead out there and hand it off to Paul.
I've got to really make some comments about E.
E.R.R. who goes out there and just spins up six really, really impressive innings.
We made some nice defense.
plays behind him, but he's pounding the zone.
He set his tone with his fastball and then went to work and started pitching from there.
Good two-seeing fastball.
I think there's a lot of quality left-handed batters on that ball club.
So at times, if you can get a lefty to do the things that E-Rod did, they can slow him down a little bit.
But overall, this day was set up by E-Rod and finished by some really heady, smart baseball plays.
Great defense and center field by Barroso.
Just a lot of little things went right for this ball club, and that's how we like to win our ball games.
It was a great night overall, but yeah, the pitching staff really deserves their flowers overall here.
And like I said, we're going to talk about that.
But I can't say enough about Tommy Troy tonight.
Tommy Troy, that home run meant a lot.
And it was very cool for him.
Here's Tommy Troy talking about not only getting that home run, but also coming back and his next to bat and getting that Bunt single.
You know immediately on the Homer?
I knew, yeah, I knew.
I didn't like get it, get it.
but I knew it was enough.
What was that feel like running the bases?
It felt surreal.
It was great.
It was really good.
I loved it.
What were you thinking on the bun single
to get more day up and for that was it?
That was it.
I saw Moncy go back.
I'm like,
here's a good opportunity here.
It's either going to be a foul wall
or a hit to be on base.
I'm glad it worked out.
Yeah, that's something,
that's something even in the minor leagues
that they ingrain on us
and they've done a good job with me,
like getting me used to doing.
I did it a bunch of times in Reno
and got pretty good at it,
so I'm glad to be able to keep doing it here.
Just curious.
Do you know,
that Catelle Hammer's
left him pitching the way he does.
Especially recently, yes.
This is a great time to get Catello out
because he's hot against him.
Yes.
I love everything about that.
I mean,
so high IQ, right?
Right.
That's all that just screams out at me
the entire time listening to his answers.
It's the fact that he had the green light
to make that decision himself and made it.
Yep.
He made it based on Max Muncie's positioning,
like you said,
very high baseball IQ.
But also the fact that you have Catele Marte coming up in a huge moment in the bottom of the eighth inning, knowing it's one run ballgame and knowing how big it is to hand that baton off to the guy, the guy.
And I don't care if you had a bad series in Seattle.
We're back here at home where, you know, it's the bottom of the eighth.
It's practically the situation that Cattel thrives in, you know, so.
Well, and you ride and die with Cattel.
100%.
Like, like we're going to run.
going to go down with the ship if that's what if that's what our captain is going to is going to have us do.
I know that Perdomo is the captain, but yeah, you know, it's the analogy that I'm going with here.
Like he's going to be the best hitter on the team. And unfortunately, it lost you games against the Mariners, but, you know, I think most of the time you, you like being in that spot.
Right. And again, like you're, you're going to lose series throughout the year. They look at it as they went on the road. They went three and three. They split a road trip. Not the worst result. Even though at the end of the day,
they swept the Giants and then got swept in Seattle the way they view it,
much more healthy than the way you and I view it.
You and I were like, we're out, we're done.
This team is over.
The season is over.
We might as well not even suit up for the Dodgers series.
Yeah, what is the point of playing the Dodgers?
We're just going to get swept by them too.
So to come out in this first game, as Tori said, it's just huge.
Yeah.
I think it takes the pressure off of this team after, you know,
having a bad series in Seattle to come back here and try so hard to win.
plus how high is their confidence right now
knowing that they did this to the Dodgers tonight?
This wasn't just a win.
This was a thorough victory.
Winning four to one, big.
Holding the Dodgers to just one run?
Huge.
They're the top offense in baseball.
So again, the fact that this pitching staff
was able to do what they did tonight, incredible.
But we got to get more Tommy Troy in here.
Here's Tommy Troy on getting this win
and what he's doing with his home run ball.
Cool.
That's cool.
I mean, I feel like it's more important that.
You know, we got the first one out of the way for this week, and we can keep building off that.
You got the ball?
Yes.
Right.
What you trade?
Did you have to trade anything?
I traded a different ball and got a picture.
I mean, the guy who's name was Sage.
He's cool.
I kept that in there.
I kept that in there because I wanted to say shout out.
Shout out to Sage.
Hell yeah.
Because if he's cool, then he's cool.
And I feel like that deserves a quick little shout out.
Absolutely.
If someone knows Sage who cop Tommy Troy home run ball, send him this, I'm sure he'll get a kick out.
of it. Tell him he's a dude and a guy himself when it comes to that. Remember I told you,
there was that little kid the other day that was like, I want the bat that you hit the home run
with and I want the hat you were wearing. Like that's a negotiation. Hell yeah. It's a $300
bat that kid picked up, right? So sure. More than that maybe. Probably. Probably. It was a
victus. So very expensive. But we also have another guy with helmet issues, Damon. We have another guy
who can't keep his helmet on his head. We do. Here's what Tommy
Troy had to say about trying his best to not let his helmet cover his eyes while he hit a home run.
Hashtag helmet gate.
I know.
I know I'm trying to figure that out.
I have like two inserts, like one in the back, one in the front.
So I'm not working out, but I'll figure it out.
Is that contact, though?
Yeah.
Is that a big league problem?
It's been a problem.
I don't know if my head's shaped weird or something.
It's always a problem.
See, I have the opposite problem.
Howmits don't fit on my head?
That's why you need to take inserts out for my big melon.
I know this is going to shock some people, but because you would think based off of how I am that I would have a big giant head as well.
But I think I'm kind of on that Tommy Troy trajectory of just like tiny guy head.
You do have a big giant head though in a different way.
Yeah, in like a more emotional sense.
Yeah, absolutely.
For sure.
That's why I said I think it would shock people.
But physically.
Yeah.
Not very big.
Tori was big on the defense as well, just like we were tonight.
and he spoke about specifically Barrosa and Vargas's plays.
Here's what he had to say about this tremendous defense they got.
Vargas, you know, it's a little bit of a transition guy.
He's an infielder, but it's great hands.
He's got unbelievable hands.
The way he moves to the baseball, the way he charged on that one ball
and threw Mookie out and home play.
It was a crucial play for us.
And it's how fast he can get the ball in and out of his glove.
So he's been fantastic over there.
He's done it time and time again.
It's footwork around the bag,
its hands, ball out of the glove,
throwing it accurately,
the Freddie Freeman double play ball.
That was real impressive.
And then you got Barrosa covering a lot of ground
in center field.
I put Barrosa in the game today.
I felt like it was going to be a low-scoring game.
E. Rod's been throwing the heck out of the ball,
and I just wanted to lock down some things in center field.
And he was ready.
He made some really good plays, and he saved us.
I don't know what the catch percentage was on those,
but he was hauling ass and making some good play.
It's good stuff, man.
Good stuff from the defense tonight.
Like you said, that Vargas play was special.
Yeah, man.
I mean, just charging it on that baseball,
knowing exactly what the situation was,
putting in a great throw to Gabby that allowed for that level of tag as well.
I mean, that was a fantastic play.
And the defensive runs saved from Ildemar Vargas checks out with the eye test as well.
Like he's up there with the best first basement in baseball.
When defensively,
it's not even necessarily his like,
unquote natural position, but he's putting in a shift over there with Carlos Santana's glove.
And yeah, it's, it's incredible to see because it's a big portion of this defense right now.
And, you know, I just feel like even if the bat's going to slow down, if he can continue to provide some value for you on the defensive side, that's, that goes a long way as well.
As long as he's not just a net negative on both sides of the baseball.
Absolutely.
And, you know, the bat isn't what it was, but the defense has absolutely kept up.
And then, as you keep saying with Jorge Barrosa, that was a special performance tonight.
It really was.
It really was.
He was just all over the place.
Definitely.
Shout out to all of you guys here in the chat.
What is happening?
Aaron Wilson,
great to see you here.
Great to see Sean.
Our guy Bees is here.
It's always a good night when Bees is around.
No doubt.
Bees with the super chat says beating L.A.
after the Miles Garrett News was peak.
Sure was.
Sure was.
And then we got a guy cool bro, 297, who became a supporter.
club member tonight. Shout out to Cool, bro. Love you, fella. I hope that date that you went on last
week went well, even though the Diamondbacks didn't win. He said, run it back tomorrow, like Jay Uso, please.
Four letters, one word, yeat. Okay. So anyway, shout out to Cool, bro. Shout out to our guy,
Russell Smith as well. He said, do you remember when Erod vetoed a trade to the Dodgers? Safe to say,
he hates them. One of us. One of us. One of us. He's just like me. He's just like me. He's just
like me. Well, we are going to talk all about
Erod being just like us and maybe
even a little bit better on the other side
of this break. Don't you go anywhere? You're watching

And I'm a little scared right now because Kevin Thomas just entered the room and I'm worried that he may have heard me screaming that there are a bunch of losers over there on the Mercury Beat.
But I didn't mean that like personally attacking them.
I just meant more of the fact that that team isn't winning basketball games right now.
But yeah, I mean, it was a lot.
He just gave in to say hi, be nice because that is Kevin.
That's Kevin, you know, but again, it's just.
I mean, Kevin does do that move to us, but like also you claim to be above that, Derek,
and then you do that every time that you have the opportunity to like step on anyone here at the HN exports.
I'm so not above that.
Yeah, no, I get we can.
I love everybody.
Okay, that's fine.
Yeah, that's fine.
I understand.
I kind of took it in the wrong.
I deserve that.
He was going to start to beat L.A. Jant and now he's gone.
And that's fine. That's fine. I'm probably, I probably was a little mean there. But hey, this is how I act when we beat the Dodgers. My arrogance level goes through the room. So, and watching Eduardo Rodriguez pitch tonight, my arrogance level is rightfully through the roof. This man is a stud. He's an ace. It's incredible. He's an all star. He's an all star.
No, like, I'm tired of talking about all these other super relatives, Derek. How about the accolate of all star? National League, all.
star, Eduardo Rodriguez.
How about Damon, a 2.24 ERA?
Hmm.
Is that good?
Is that good?
Is that good?
I don't know.
It's a game we like to play on this show.
It seems good.
And he filled up the zone tonight with strikes.
Like I said, he started the game wonderfully with a 12 pitch, one, two, three inning,
getting all the big names on the Dodgers lineup out early.
But then he got himself into a jam.
In the second inning, he gave up a leadoff single to Mokey Betts.
Then he walked Kyle Tucker.
He had two on with no outs.
And that's when first he got Will Smith to fly out to center field
and then got that grounder from Muncie that Vargas played beautifully
coming home and getting bets out and keeping that run off the board.
He would eventually load the bases,
but he got Alex call to pop up in the foul territory and end that second inning.
But the third was more of the same for Erod.
And again, the third was when I started to get worried.
The third is where I felt like things were going to start to back up.
And instead of us seeing him, you know, kind of walk this final,
line like he did in the second that things were going to fall apart. He gave up a leadoff double to
show A. Otani and then gave up another double to the Dodgers best hitter right now, Andy Pahas,
to have two runners in scoring position with no outs. Freddie Freeman grounds out and brings in Otani
to score the game's first run and puts the Dodgers up one to nothing. But then he somehow
gets out of the inning, again, with beautiful defense behind him and Errod pitching, you know,
to contact. That would be the only run EWRod would allow in his other.
in his entire outing. He would give up another hit to Otani and the fifth, but that would
literally be it for Erod as far as runs allowed. And his four-seem fastball was on point tonight.
Again, when his four-seem and his change-up can work together, this man is fairly unhittable,
right? And he talked about it after the game, and we'll get to that here shortly. But if you
take a look here at his pitch chart, 48% four-seem fastball usage tonight,
maxed out at his highest velocity of the year so far, 95.4 miles per hour.
I don't know where I put this, Derek.
Give me one second.
I don't know either.
It's somewhere.
It was there.
I saw it with my own two eyes.
I know you put it in there somewhere.
But again, it's got only two whiffs on it, though.
He averaged 93.3.
point six miles per hour, which I do believe, there we go, we were never, we were never in doubt
of Damon, never at all. But he, he tonight, again, didn't get like a lot of swing and miss on his,
on his stuff, but again, average was way up. His average this season on his 40, four seam fastball
has been 91.9 miles per hour. Tonight he averaged 93.6 miles per hour. He just had that
little extra step of hate in his heart for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
That's what it was, and that's what got him through this outing, pure hate.
Also, again, his forcing fastball, he throws it everywhere, and he threw it everywhere.
He doesn't just keep it up in the zone.
He did throw it in the zone a lot, though, tonight.
And again, he just got some weak contact on it, got some ground balls, got some flyouts.
For the most part, just got the Dodgers to record outs.
He threw his change up only 26% of the outing, but he did get more.
whiffs on that than his four seam. And usually that changeup is kind of his better pitch as far as
fooling batters and getting those swings and misses. He threw the cutter 10%, curveball 8%, sinker 7%.
The mix is fine, but again, the majority of the time he was throwing his four seam or his change
up. And I mean, it's just, it just works for him. And it's been working for this whole staff.
In fact, there's only been a handful of outings that I can think of, the Diamondbacks starting pitching staff,
dominating the opposition with strikeouts.
Two Michael Soroka starts, maybe one Ryan Nelson start,
but for the most part, that is not the game plan.
And I'm starting to believe, and I'm sure they don't want me talking about it,
but I'm going to talk about it anyway.
I feel this is the game plan.
I feel this is the game plan that Jeremy Blyche is bringing to this team.
I believe this is the game plan that Brian Kaplan is on.
Just more of a game plan that involves getting, throwing in the zone,
pitching in the zone, getting, you know, not walking batters and just challenging batters,
getting them to get weak contact.
And so far, it's been working considering the mountain of quality starts that the staff
has already been able to put together this season.
And tonight was another quality start for Eduardo Rodriguez.
And again, because we haven't been getting a lot of strikeouts, we didn't even plug in
the Circle K strikeout meter this season.
It's just been sitting there this whole time unplugged.
and I hate to plug it in just for three strikeouts,
but there it is.
We found the extension cord,
and we got our circle K strikeout meter back up on the bottom of the screen.
Three strikeouts tonight for Erod.
He went six innings, giving up five hits,
one earned run, one walk, and three K.
It was a special performance tonight from Erod,
and here's what Tori LaBolo had to say about his starting pitcher.
Yeah, it came out a little bit hot for sure.
I know I saw something in 94, 9, 94, 8th,
and maybe even in 95.
So I don't look at all the pitches when it stands out to me.
I'll glance up there and take a peek out of it.
But he's got his body in great shape.
He works hard.
A little bit like Nolan Aeronado.
He doesn't take days off.
He works his butt off every single day.
So it translates.
It translates into good moments and he's full of confidence.
And, you know, we've all been there.
When you're feeling good at something, you're put a little bit more effort into it knowing everything's going to be lined up.
I think he's just staying behind the ball.
Everything is insane.
The lower half is matching the upper half and he's letting it eat.
Man, and it's just been, it's been awesome to watch considering.
Let it eat even more.
Yeah.
I'm all about letting it eat.
Let it eat.
Is that what the difference is here?
He just hasn't been letting it eat the whole time.
It's weird.
Because I'm all about letting it eat, Derek.
If that's what we are we on a diet?
Let it eat.
Let it eat.
Let it eat all.
Well, here's the thing.
I sincerely think Erod's been just essentially injured, his intention.
his entire tenure with the Diamondbacks.
It's been varying levels of injury, but injured nonetheless, right?
And I think all of us can relate to how sleeping even on your neck wrong and waking up with a bad neck,
how that could impact your entire day.
Well, just imagine being a Major League baseball player who has a, you know, nagging kind of injury like that for a considerable amount of time, you know.
And with Erod, it was a few different injuries.
And it was just that kind of thing that wasn't enough for it to be.
a devastating injury that needed surgery, but enough for you to not be at your best.
Plus, again, I feel like the game plan that they put together this season specifically,
like Erod wasn't one of the guys that needed hashtag the meeting.
He was already good before that, right?
So I do think that Erod is one of the guys in the starting routine.
Eric, Erod may have led hashtag the meeting.
Oh, yeah.
Like we might need to give him more credit than Tori.
I bet you had sat everybody down and said, here's actually the deals, fellas.
is this is how you pitch at a major league level?
When we build the statue, Tori sitting in a chair,
Erod's standing on a soapbox.
You know what I mean?
Like that's how the statue is going to look.
It's going to be a crazy seed, but it's going to be great.
But, you know, again, the one thing that really set him up for success tonight
was the control, command of his fastball,
and more specifically, the life, how hot it was coming out of his hand.
Here's what Erod had to say about his fastball being the best that it ever has,
or at least since the WBC.
I mean, I will say like,
That's the best I ever feel in my fastball.
If I remember that day like that was probably the OEC against Team Dominican,
that was the last time I feel like that with the fastball.
What do you think?
I mean, like I said, like the best I feel with the fastball,
you probably see on the numbers and everything.
But like I say, like feeling really good, body-wise, everything.
So I've got to take advantage of it and just keep doing it, you know.
Where does that come from when it's all of a sudden a tick up?
I mean, I haven't said it so many times, you know, we throw 30 plus stars in the year
and you're going to have one or two like that.
I just have to enjoy when he happens because that doesn't happen every day.
He was impressed with this stuff tonight.
Becca is right in the chat.
It's a new name, Eat Rod.
I love it.
I love it.
I need, you know how Gabby does the, Derek, you know how Gabby does the, like the, the, after he throws a guy out?
Yeah.
I need E. Rod to, like, maybe, like, do some, like, sort of like, you know, he's, like eating popcorn or something.
Oh, that's pretty good.
Maybe strap on the feedback.
I don't know, but it's incredible to watch.
And again, it's been fun considering that, you know, this offense has underperformed this year, right?
The way that this pitching staff as a whole has responded has been incredible, both the bullpen and the starting rotation.
But Erod kind of stepping up this year ever since day one has been, I think, the biggest thing.
He's led by example here.
And here he is talking about the defense that he got behind himself tonight
because he was over the moon with how these guys kind of picked him up.
Great, man.
I know the kind of defense that have behind me and I know what they can do.
You know what I mean?
And those two plays are just amazing.
You know, as soon as I see the ball hit that way,
I was like, that's a base hit.
It was something.
I just saw him diving and grab those two like that.
That's just amazing to see, you know.
It doesn't really pick you up when you get a big defensive play like that on the matter.
Yeah, I mean, in Bargie, too.
when he went to home play, you know, those kind of plays
are just make you, make you feel better,
for you make you feel like you can do it more
and you know what you get behind you
so that you'll be more confident to keep attacking the haters, you know?
Well, the biggest moment of this game
really was a three-person battle
because it was Erod versus Miguel Rojas,
but it was also Erod versus the ABS Challenge system
and Miguel Rojas versus the ABS challenge system.
If you caught this at bat,
Miguel Rojas challenged,
three times in one at bat.
Two of them, he was dead on
on pitches that were one-tenth of an inch
outside of the zone.
It felt like every challenge we've been involved in
all year-long in big moments.
It really did, but it was all happening
in one at bat, right?
And you're just like, it's unbelievable.
How is this guy, you know,
getting it by a tenth of an inch two times in a row?
More importantly, he kind of had been fed up with it.
He had it.
And on the final challenge, he finally got his revenge and got Miguel Rojas to, you know,
Miguel Rojas strikes out.
And on the final pitch, he challenges again.
And that one he was wrong on.
Here is Eron talking about that fairly hilarious situation and how sick of Miguel Rojas he was.
I mean, that's something that I mean, I was little.
I mean, I'm laughing at all because I take the advantage and I end of winning, you know.
But I don't know.
It was something crazy.
I never see something like that, you know.
I miss two pitches.
I mean, I don't know how you guys call it, because that's not an inch, right?
That's less than an inch.
I never see that before, and I throw back to back perfect pitches right there.
He challenged that.
That's good on hand.
That's really good either.
He ended up in both back to back.
You know, and I throw the last one, and I see him tapping on the hemel.
I know, man.
He's got it one more time.
And then they go my way, and I'll take it, you know.
But I feel like, especially even in Venezuela, too,
there was something.
And I have got me behind the home play, which is like he got me to sometimes.
Because sometimes he grabbed the ball really well.
women so perfect that I think
it's a strike and then I see behind there and it's a ball
I just literally go like
damn I'm Gabby you got me on this one
but that was special I was really good to
to have fun with it. The broadcasts
had some fun about with your reactions to the whole thing
yeah I mean like I said like the last
last one I just went like oh man like really like three times
but I end up going my way so I'll take it
and again it was a Venezuelan
connection too between him Gabby and Miguel
Rojas so just a lot of fun being
had I didn't realize Miguel Rojas was
Venezuelan. I was going to say, when you said like he was sick of Miguel Rojas, I was going to say I actually personally, there's not many players I hate much more than Miguel Rojas after what he did in the World Series last year.
Oh, I know. And Miguel Rojas like owns Erod kind of. He doesn't have a lot of it. That's against him. But I think he's sitting, came into the game hitting like 750 against E. Rod.
So, and Freddie Freeman was like 10 of 17. Yeah. Freddie Freeman was also hitting like. A leftie on lefty. Yeah. Yeah. So again, not.
Not the best matchups for Erod, but he came out on top tonight 100%.
But let me tell you, Erod wasn't the only stud on the mound tonight
because the entire bullpen was comprised of studs tonight.
Absolute studs.
Taylor Clark, an inning of work, two strikeouts.
Brandon Garcia, one inning of work, one hit allowed.
Paul Seawald, one inning of work.
See ya, jumps.
One hit allowed in three innings with two strikeouts and no runs
against the goddamn Los Angeles Dodgers.
Ladies and gentlemen, the mother effing bullpen.
I mean, they're unbelievable.
I truly do not know what I'm watching.
We say this is the segment that we do on this show, Derek,
where we say, what do we do with our hands?
What do I do with my hands?
And we just roll it after every single post game show it feels like
because it's every single time we're like,
how is the bullpen good?
We have no idea.
We thought it was going to be the worst thing about the team.
Somehow they're automatic.
They go out there and all they do is shove in the biggest moments and, you know, Taylor Clark and Paul
Seawald.
I mean, it's unbelievable.
Juan Maria yesterday or sorry, or yeah, yeah, yesterday on Sunday in the Sunday game.
He was fantastic yesterday.
Like, you know, and I know we lost that game, but Juan Murillo wasn't the reason why.
No.
He went out there and he did five strikeouts and two in is.
Everything he could to win the Diamondbacks that baseball game.
Yeah.
So it's, this bullpen continues to be.
the biggest, like, surprise of the season.
And God may it continue, Derek, because it's truly a life-changing experience, having, like,
a little bit of faith and confidence in the back-end guys to come in and do a job versus watching
through our hands as we're like, are we going to blow a nut, our 47th lead of the season this year?
Is it going to happen again?
Like, literally, like, I know that sounds exaggeratory, but that's like literally the territory
the Diamondbacks were in last year.
No, they were.
They were.
I mean, think about how many different.
closers we used last year, how many different relievers got to save? It was a record for the
franchise. Not to mention that it just felt like the Diamondbacks were constantly calling up,
instead of them doing it for the young players for positions that they need because they were
injured. It was simply for bullpen arms because they had so many injuries to their bullpen
that are pitching staff, bullpen, everything, that they just needed to continuously call guys up
to try to find anybody that could help them win baseball games, anybody that could hold a lead late,
that could stop the bleeding in these games.
Even this year when they've blown games, even when the bullpen's been bad,
they haven't been atrociously bad.
They've just been close baseball games.
So, you know,
they limited the damage, right?
Like, you know,
like when,
when I was about ready to say Kevin Inkel is back against the Padres and he gave up
that home run in that big moment,
like it was like a one or two run situation that he gave up there.
It wasn't like it was like the wheels have officially fallen off eight runs
against the Diamondbacks bullpen.
It's been crazy to watch
and truly like hats off to Mike Hazen
because as much as like
I very much I feel like
use our platform and this is not to say
I blame Mike Hazen because I think I've been
very clear also Derek about like
Mike Hazen to me is the
best thing that could be you know the diamond
possibly be running the Diamondbacks right now
with the vision that he has
and what I've seen him accomplish
versus what I've seen other Diamondbacks front
office people accomplish.
But I just,
truly think Tori Lovolo wears Mike Hazen's bullpen mistakes way more than he should with this
fan base a lot of people in this fan base.
And so when I made the entire offseason about let's make sure we blame the right people
when we get into the season and the bullpen looks the way it does, I also have to equally
come up here on the show and say, let's make sure we praise the right people when the bullpen
looks the way it does because my goodness, is this bullpen better than I.
ever could have expected.
And maybe he was just due.
Mike Hazen was due for a little bit of good bullpen luck based off of what we've had to
endure in his tenure so far.
But this bullpen is legit.
And as Katie says, we got AJ Puck in Reno making rehab appearances.
We're going to be afraid.
Tori's going to speed run through the injured list here a little bit later on the show.
But Paul Cwall, Damon, 15 saves now.
15 out of 16 and save opportunities.
The Diamondback's bullpen currently has a 3.86 ERA, which is 13th in Major League Baseball.
That's a top half, I believe, bullpen, Derek, if I do get my math right on that.
It's getting close to a top 10 bullpen.
And I don't know if we can handle that.
I don't know if we can, there's no way that that could be possible because this franchise has never had a good
bullpen in its entire, you know, existence.
There's legitimately probably like four seasons you could look at in like franchise history
and be like, that was a good bullpen, which is wild to think about.
So when it happens, it feels like such a special thing that we have in our midst.
Ryan's right.
We might be back.
Aaron's right.
Bullpen might be a wagon.
Might be.
Unfortunately, I regret to inform everybody that the chat is speaking facts.
They are.
They're just dropping knowledge is what they're doing.
But we need to take a quick break.
And on the other side of this break, we're going to take a look at some of these numbers
and talk a little bit about Nolan Aronado being an absolute leader on this team.
Don't you go anywhere you're watching the PHNX Diamondback show.

And David, let's take a look at the numbers from tonight's game because I kind of want to
frame them and keep them in my office for the next few days.
Who knows how or what to expect from the rest of the series with the Dodgers.
But it's just really nice, especially in a four game series, to get this first.
first win out of the way. Diamondbacks outscore the Dodgers 4 to 1. They get four extra base
hits to the Dodgers 2. They were 0 for 2 with runners in scoring position. Not a lot of
opportunities for the snakes tonight. Meanwhile, the Dodgers were two for eight. Hard hit
percentage pretty close there, 36% for the Diamondbacks, 33.3% for the Dodgers. Expected batting
average, 219 for the debacks and 268 for the Dodgers. And the Diamondbacks one for one
on their ABS challenges.
Meanwhile, Miguel Rojas was two for three,
and the rest of the team,
O for one, they're late.
I think it was Andy Pahas,
challenge one there late.
We got a Coolbro chat,

what a bounce back from last May for Erod versus L.A.
No kidding, right?
Derek, I don't know if you remember this game.
I have the statistics in front of us.
Let's hear it.
In case anyone was curious as to what the true atrocities of this were.
So the Diamondbacks,
The Diamondbacks finished this night with a loss and in fall to 20 and 19.
They would have gone two games above 500, and this was early in the season, obviously.
Dodgers 26 and 13.
The D-Backs lose to the Dodgers 14 to 11 on that game, May 9th last year.
The D-backs went up 3-1 in the first inning.
Erod gave up two runs in the second inning, so it was 3-3.
Then E-Rod goes out there in the third inning, gives up five runs.
to make it an eight three ball game.
The D-backs claw back by the sixth
and have taken the lead.
Nine to eight.
Nine to eight.
And then they go up 11 to 8
and then they give up six runs
in the ninth,
the top of the ninth inning.
And Kevin Ginkle gave up five of them.
Ryan Thompson gave up one
and the snakes lose.
Oh my God.
14 to 11.
That truly felt like.
Can you delete that from the internet forever?
I'm not going to lie.
that might have been the end of the season last year.
Like that dead ass might have been the exact moment the Diamondback season ended.
I mean, because you're right and high, come back win against the Dodgers.
We're at home.
And then all of a sudden, you're going to blow that lead, that late 11 to 8, give up six runs in the top of the ninth inning and lose.
And I mean, that's, it just felt like there was no recovering from that.
That was the end of the season.
So you're not wrong, cool, bro.
You're not wrong.
Well, there is one similarity, the 2023 season, Damon, and that's been having that veteran third basement over there on the corner.
Nolan Aronado, obviously a much better defender than Evan Longoria, and that's no disrespect to Longoria, but Aronado, just one of the best.
One thing that's been incredible, though, has been Aronado's preparation for this season and how much he wanted to turn his bat around versus his struggles last year with the St. Louis Cardinals.
we've kind of talked about it a bunch.
We even said like, I don't know.
I mean, I even said I didn't really like it because it kind of seemed a little desperate.
But now looking back on it, you know, it just goes to show how dedicated Aeronado has been
to being the best that he can be for this team.
On the very first day, he was traded to the Diamondbacks.
He was sending over video of himself hitting to the coaches so that they could start giving him
advice and start, you know, trying to do whatever they could to help him get his bat back on track.
And this team needed that.
They needed a leader like that.
And we'll hear from Tori here in a second.
But you need a guy that I think everyone looks at and commands respect in the locker room, right?
Because no one is above where Nolan Aronado is in their career in this organization.
This guy is a potential Hall of Fame player.
We're talking about platinum glove, you know, tons of hitting accolades as well, all-star appearances.
So, you know, he commands that respect.
We also talked about like if we were going to get in a fist fight,
a brawl, a bench clearing brawl, who's the number one guy that comes to mind of,
like, who would probably start it?
Nolan Aronado, because there's no, everybody else on the team is so damn nice.
And I think you do need like a little bit of switch up in personality, a more curmudgeony old guy
who's gonna.
It's 100% Jeff Bannister starting my fight.
I'm just saying there's someone swinging first.
And it's Nolan Aronado.
It's the two of them.
They're going out hand in hand, close lining people.
Yeah, yeah.
But.
Big Legion of Doom.
Yeah, yeah. I just, you know, I think that you needed a guy that provided that kind of attitude to this team.
And, you know, like, truly, like, it's been a great fit not only off the field, but on the field as well.
When you look at what he's providing you and what you're paying him, what a move.
Well, it's been his leadership, you know.
Yeah.
And he just has this kind of humble leadership by leading by example, leading with his experience.
Tonight after the game, when we spoke to him, he was talking about how.
you know, his advice to the young guys is just trying to give them a little bit of confidence,
making them feel a little bit more comfortable going up there against the opposing pitcher,
sharing whatever knowledge he has,
considering he's seen a lot of these guys more than, you know, his teammates have seen them, right?
But again, he'll be the first to tell you, I'm trying just like they are, right?
So, again, there is some, there is some humility that has to be had by a leader in the clubhouse
because, you know, a lot of times, especially if it's a veteran leader,
that guy's not the best player in the club on the field, right?
Like, and a lot of times your best player shouldn't be your leader, too.
That's something that was thrust upon guys like Justin Upton and others that didn't want it
and never really had what you would consider to be leadership qualities in a way.
They're not guys out there like Pardomo that want that C on their chest.
With Nolan Arnato, it's more just about him being there for his teammates,
sharing those experience, the experience that he has,
having good baseball conversations in the dugout during the game.
And again, just helping, trying his best to encourage his teammates when he can.
But again, he's just been incredible.
More importantly, it's been what he's been able to do on the field.
I mean, when we talked about his offensive numbers last year,
we said if he could just take a little step backwards and do what he did in 2024 for the Cardinals,
which even then wasn't prime Nolan Aronado by any stretch of the imagination,
but was far better than the 2025 season he had.
And here he is with an 816 OPS and a 270 batting average,
hitting a solo home run tonight to help the Diamondbacks beat the Dodgers.
In fact, Cotell Marte's home run was nice,
but Nolan Aronado's home run technically was the game winner that put them up,
and this team held the Dodgers to held them to one run.
So if all played out the same without Marte's home run,
Nolan Arnato won this game tonight for the Arizona Diamondbacks.
And here is Tori Lovelo talking about his veteran leader out there and what he provides this team.
Well, I said in pregame, you know, our hitting coaches dig in with Nolan.
And they've done a great job with him and creating maybe a new process, a new routine,
and really gotten his working day up to the next level.
And Nolan has trusted that and started to have great conversations.
And he's a baseball junkie.
He loves talking about hitting and it's transitioned.
It's played out for us because he's putting in the time and the work.
And that's never been an issue for Nolan.
I think he's working on the right things.
His top half is matching his lower half.
He's staying behind the baseball.
And I can't be more impressed by the things that he's done for us.
And not only is he doing on offense, he's doing a very high level on defense.
I, me personally, I think he's been banged up the past couple years in St. Louis, getting here, getting healthy was step one, kind of getting a swing synced up, top and bottom synced up, staying behind the baseball and impacting it.
That was the next step and it's playing out.
Does it remind you a little of what Longoria brought in here a couple years ago?
Yeah, so very similar mindset.
In fact, I saw them together at a function, and I just sat there for a couple of minutes and just watched two, a minute.
amazing human beings. It happened to be really top-end third basements talking to one another.
I had to kind of catch myself because I was in Dreamland. It was just special for me to sit there with them.
And I didn't say a word. I just sat there and listened to them. But they remind me to one another with their personalities. They're very intense.
They want to win. They will do anything to win. But look, it's Longoria. Then it was Jock Peterson.
Then it was, who did I say today? Gino Suarez and Nolan Aaron.
Our hitting coaches dig in with these guys for sure.
I mean, the results are there.
The work he's putting in is there.
And I had a feeling it was going to be a big night for Aronado,
considering I took video of him hitting batting practice.
And he was just literally leaving baseballs in the left field bleacher seats for fans.
Because when they hit home run balls during batting practice,
those balls just stay out there.
So if you ever get to a Chase Field game, you're there early and there's not a lot of people there,
just run over to the bleachers.
I'm sure there will be four or five baseballs sitting down there for you to pick up
somewhere. But another comment
was made in regard to something that's very important
to me, and that is Nolan
Arnado's walkout music.
Damon, I believe our guy TopG
had a comment there. He said
Arnato's cool walkout EDM
song. In fact, it's
been driving me insane
because his song,
which is called Too Cool
to Be Careless by
Pasa, is
a sample.
It uses a sample. But I
could not figure it out because the song is so short when Nolan Aronado comes up to the plate
and all you hear is some uh-huh huh huh yeah like that kind of stuff instead of actual words and I figured
it out um it is a very very famous R&B track that's been in like a million rap songs
called Don't Look Any Further by Dennis Edwards but that is not where I remembered it from hearing it
Nolan Aronado's trap version of it
that's this too cool to be careless
I heard hit him up by Tupac
that's what I heard and tonight
I finally figured it out
so yes there is a
small amount of Tupac
also in Aronado's walk-up
song and as Top G says
yes Unx still got it
and I'm sure he's talking about Nolan Aronado but I hope
that he also means me too
Sean said oh you mean when you guys
set up to be the emergency
pod before actually winning
Does he mean on tonight's show?
No, he means on that 14 to 11 game when we did an emergency podcast because they came back and we were like, we have to do a show.
And then they ended up losing the.
Yeah, thanks for reminding us a bad time, Sean.
I don't like that.
I don't like that.

Well, before the game, Toro Lavello provided us with a quick injury update,
and I mean quick.
I mean quick.
This man was getting paid by the word and not by the hour when he gave us this update.
But also dropped kind of a big bombshell on us here at the end.
Here's Tori Lavallo's injury updates for when we can be expecting some of the Diamondbacks best players to come back here from injury.
Baller is playing the ACL tonight and tomorrow possibility of him joining a renal later this week.
But I'll keep you updated on that.
Guriel is taking machine BP, running curves, doing some outful work.
possibility of some ACL games starting next week.
McCann, machine BP, catching drills with some really light running.
Santana's taking live BPs and running bases with mild intensity.
A.J. Puck will be in Reno. He's heading there today.
We'll throw tomorrow and schedule the throw also on Friday.
Christian Main is going to have surgery on his right shoulder, date TBD.
I don't know a lot of the details. I just found this out the past couple days.
really that to you as soon as possible.
Christy on Mena
will be having shoulder surgery
and he will miss the remainder of the year.
And that's
a tough setback. Yeah, that's unfortunate.
Mena was one of the Diamondbacks
most exciting prospects and
many people, including two guys
on this show, believe there was a really good
chance at the beginning of the year that we might see
Mena this year in the starting
rotation. I think on a mailback
Monday episode, Derek, I think I said he was my
most underrated prospect in the diner.
back's organization and that I thought that he could really, you know,
potentially be a fixture in the rotation, you know,
in the long term potentially.
But I don't know if this,
I don't want to say this debilitates that because it feels like we have a lot of vets right
now.
So there will be room for a young guy in the organization to come up.
And Brandon Fott's going to get an opportunity again and whatnot.
But this is a tough setback for it.
It's unfortunate for him.
And it's a setback that has happened since spring training.
I remember when he talked to him when he got shut down,
he was kind of like,
I don't know. It didn't sound too serious at the time. And now here he is having shoulder surgery. Again, he is a big part of the future of this team. You're right about that. And this year is kind of a weird year where they kind of have a log jam. So if there was ever a year to have an injury like this, it's not the worst season to be having it because as much as we thought that Mena might have a chance of cracking, you know, the starting rotation this year. It definitely doesn't look like that's going to be the case.
No, you're crowded now.
It's going to be crowded.
Lord knows what the Diamondbacks are going to do when Corbyn Burns returns.
You also have, you know, again, some adjustments that are going to need to be made to the roster
when AJ Puck and Justin Martinez come back, that right now with the way this bullpen is performing,
it's going to be a difficult decision to make.
No doubt.
Plus, again, you're talking about like, where do you put guys?
Because guys have to get moved off the 40-man roster.
Haven Smith returned to the roster today.
The corresponding move, you know, for the Diamondbacks was, as far as 40-man roster moves,
was to send Tim Tawa down to Reno, right?
Use one of Tim Tawa's options.
But then they also put Carlos Santana on the 60-day IL.
And we are moving closer and closer to me and Damon having a fistfight.
And both of us, maybe both of us are right.
Maybe they won't DFAM while he's in the minor leagues.
But maybe we just never see Carlos Santana again based on this injury.
My thing was always give him the opportunity to go sign with another team.
feels like the writing is on the wall here that he's not going to help us in 2026.
So,
so I was trying to DFA him more as a courtesy to a veteran.
You're almost doing it like the Alec Thomas thing, but less spitefully.
Rather,
because the Alec Thomas thing is like, look, look, see what your value is when you go out there.
Yeah.
And the 60 day I all feels like you're almost like keeping him from that.
But who knows, maybe no one would want to touch him with a 10 foot pole.
He's injured. He's injured.
Yeah.
So again, it's giving him a chance to rehab with a team being.
part of an organization.
And he wasn't very good even with Reno.
He was the worst player in baseball.
Like over his short sample size that we saw him on the field.
I feel like this is just, we're just fighting again.
This is those just,
no, but like that's not an exaggeration.
Another argument going is what you're doing right now.
By the way, I did want to say, again, it was good to see Pave and Smith, you know,
taking BP again.
But, you know, it still doesn't feel like a, you know, answer to our D.H.
issue. I'm not going to call it after one day, but Paveen's baths weren't great time of death.
1129 p.m. June 1st. No, let's not do that. Let's let do that. No, I agree with you. It's an upgrade over
what we had going, but it's certainly not. He's taking more pitches at the very. Yeah. Yeah. He's a more
productive hitter. Yeah. Yeah. Absolutely. And he has a better eye, but better situationally, but again,
it still feels very. You could get a game changer at that spot it feels like. And, in,
He doesn't really have that ability.
He's more of a pinch hit platoon type of guy, I think.
Kimmy Lou James Grover hitting singles every time as a DH.
I'll take that.
I don't care.
Man, had a 36, what, 36 game on base streak or whatever?
He's the future at third base.
He will be here.
Speaking of David and guys that we loved at one point that came up,
buddy Kennedy was called up today by the San Francisco Giants
to pitch in the eighth inning of a game where they lost.
Things are good in San Francisco, man.
Things are really, really good in San Francisco.
They got a good squad up there.
They're going through it.
They're going.
They are going through it.
They lost 16 to 2 to the Milwaukee Brewers,
which is why Buddy Kennedy pitched in today's game.
And again, not probably the way they wanted to use Buddy Kennedy coming up.
But, Damon, he did only give up four hits and four.
earned runs in an inning of work.
So it is what it is.
They lost in the ninth inning on a walkoff, I think, to the Colorado Rockies.
And like, it was that point where I was pretty much ready to declare the giant season a wrap.
Again, maybe sweeping them twice isn't the huge accomplishment that we might have thought it was.
We are going to be back tomorrow, folks.
In fact, we're going to be here all week long with postgame shows.
We got one tomorrow, Wednesday and Friday.
And then, like I said, on Thursday, we'll be doing a 12 p.m. show so we can hang out with you guys in the Bar S-All-you-can-Eat section, stuffing our faces, and enjoying our takeover of Chase Field. But maybe we even do a postgame show that day. So make sure to come back for all of that fun. Until then, you can follow us on social media. I am at cap underscore K-Mand-W-A-W-G. Damon, as always, is a Damon dog with a DAW-G. We're all damns-d-d-d-bark.
Our show is at P-H-N-X underscore D-Backs, but as always all roads lead to at P-H-N-X underscore sports on
Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
We got a super chat from our guy Coolbro, who said, I like the Squid Game Legends
Race on Korean Heritage Night.
Yes, this does very much feel like it's Dodger Appreciation Week.
So that's where I'm glad that we stuck this in at the end of the show, Derek, because
it doesn't need to be at the beginning of the show.
No, we want.
It doesn't.
We're going to lead off with the winning.
But also it's a little bit of a touchy subject because you're, you're dealing with people's
heritage.
You're dealing with people's ethnicities and what they're proud of the countries that they're, you know,
that their families are from, and they should be proud of it.
There's no doubt about it.
But it's embarrassing as a Diamondbacks fan
when we invite our rival fan base to take over our own stadium.
And that's just straight up the truth.
When you have Korean Heritage Night,
followed by Mexican Heritage Night,
followed by Japanese Heritage Night,
and Transonic asks here,
how did it work out that Otani is pitching on Japanese Heritage Night?
Gee, I wonder how.
I wonder how that worked out.
I wonder if maybe there was a chance
that this was always going to happen because guess who the diamondbacks were always going to
play on Japanese Heritage Night like they did last year like they did the year before because for some
reason we have this like list this like a humiliation kink where we want to have our rival fans
take over our stadium and I can't wrap my head around why they would do this I get that it might
make you more money on a single night but it's not conducive to building a community in a fan base
overall. And that goes away from the long-term goal of being baseball fans.
Tori Lavallo even said it tonight. It's shocking. He wants the Diamondbacks to be the team
that goes on an away game and takes over that stadium, right? He talked about the energy
and the building on a night like this. But he also said, like, I would rather it was more Diamondbacks
fans than like a 50-50 split, right? And there's something to be said because you're right.
when you're talking about heritage nights,
nobody wants that to be taken lightly and no one wants it to be being fun.
Or taken away?
I want them to happen.
Right.
I want them to happen against the White Sox on a Tuesday when it gets people out to the ballpark to go get the Mexico jersey,
not when it's against the Dodgers,
when their fans are already going to show up and try to take over our stadium.
We don't need to encourage them to do it further.
You know, you know that Dodgers fans are going to come out.
You know that Diamondbacks fans are going to come out.
It's a Dodgers series.
It's going to be a packed house.
you are shooting yourself in the foot marketing-wise by giving away jerseys and making those
heritage nights on those nights because those nights are meant to attract people who might not come
to the ballpark otherwise you're not doing that in this case you're doing this specifically
because you're placating to the fan base of the opposing team my i'm portoican portoican heritage
night is happening against the cincinnati reds not against the yankees not against the yankees
not against any team from New York,
not even against the Miami Marlins,
which would also kind of make sense.
The Marlins, the Red Sox, the Yankees.
They're not doing against any of those teams.
Right, right.
They're not.
You know what?
Even the Marlins, Derek,
I would accept because there's not a chance in hell
Marlins fans are flocking out to come to the ball.
100%.
But when you have Dodgers fans screaming like,
like literally like, you know, go Dodgers
while as they're coming to the stadiums and chance and stuff.
Yeah, like that's, to me,
that's unacceptable as a Diamondbacks fan to say we want those people to show up in droves
tonight to take over Chase Field like we're now 17 by the way Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico night against the pirates yeah that would have been sick but fuck that Derek I'm so
over this marketing technique and it's like we can never build anything here until we start
taking ourselves seriously and and I I feel like me and people here in this chat and a lot of
in this fan base take it seriously and do not understand it.
While the Diamondbacks marketing team, in this circumstance, and I don't want to put this
on them as a whole, but in this circumstance, they laugh in our face.
They laugh in our face and they say, it doesn't matter.
We're trying to make as much money at each particular night as possible.
And I hate that for us because it's just, it doesn't bode well for the long term building
of this of this community in this fan base.
It needs to change.
It can't keep happening like this.
And the fact that it's back to back to back is like even more of a slap in the face.
of like, well, we're going to do the next one after the next one after the next one
right in front of you guys.
I hate it so much.
Well, Damon, I made a huge mistake because today is Monday and you know what we do every
Monday on this show.
And we have gone entirely too long for us to go through the whole, whole rigmaro.
So I'm just going to speed run a few questions here real fast that we got.
And that is, Karen with the C wants to know, can we go back to Pardomo batting first in the
lineup?
Tori gave a really interesting answer tonight,
and it sounded like he intends on moving Perdomo,
but he has not talked to Perdomo about it,
so he didn't really want to discuss it any further,
but it does sound like Perdomo is going to be moved in the lineup.
He's hit a lot of sack flies,
which I think, you know, makes you think,
and he's good situationally usually of, like, knocking a run in.
Yeah.
So that's why I think why they have in Bat third,
but it seems like maybe it's just not working to the point of,
we need to just switch up the priorities for Perdomo.
and have him worry about working counts getting on base.
And that's what moving him would do.
I agree.
Completely agree.
The basketball and football guy asked the debacks have a record of 19 and 10 at home,
now 20 and 10.
The second best in Major League Baseball,
what do you make of this?
Luck, great crowd, something else.
I think,
I think.
It's because we got,
we had Korean Heritage Night tonight, Derek,
and not really just push it over the top, I think.
I'm going to say it's Baxter.
I'm going to say Baxter gets the boys hyped.
Baxter provides a different level of excitement.
No, honestly, I do, I do think it's just kind of...
Sexiest mascot.
I think it's a little bit of the home cooking.
I think it's been, you know, the ability to have that bottom of the ninth inning.
In certain cases, we've had a few, you know, walkoffs this year.
So, you know, again, I just can't explain it too much.
But I will say that in general, the offense seems to do a little better at home.
and I and again the defense seems to hold you know the and this is all like science big brain talk
the offense scores more runs and they stop more runs from scoring but yeah like overall it does
seem like in general they just have a different kind of pep in their step a little bit at
chase field and so far it's it's it's been working right um crowbin carroll enthusiast said in a
thousand meter race how big of a lead would captain caveman need to defeat
Corbyn Carroll. Wow. A thousand meters. Yeah. So shoot. So we're talking 999 meters, right? That's how many
meters I would need of a head start. This is like beat the free. So it's 10 laps around or no,
not 10 laps around. It's it's two laps and then two and a half laps around a track essentially.
Okay. Okay. Is what we're talking. What do you think you would need lead wise over Corbin?
So okay. So I think he's the problem is is that three? Well, you're saying it's two and a half
laps though, right? So you're saying
I would need a three lap lead? That's a good point.
No, that's not what I meant. Maybe
maybe if Corbyn just waits for me to do one
lap and then come back around
and then when I get back, then he starts running.
Like I think I think he's still got you. He's still going to get me.
That's pretty close though.
I don't know. I want to be pretty gasped that second
ring around. Oh, you are. But I think that
I think Derek could could low-key scoot
when he needs to. Like like Derek, if I
told you like if we put a prize on the end of this you know what i mean you win something if if you
beat corbin in the race yeah i think we're getting you to like just move it on that final 100 meters i
think you might need like a lap and a half though yeah katy says derrick you are a mayor and we adore
you but to quote you water is wet and corbin is fast she's not wrong um one let's get two more
and real fast j army strong he says katell said this feels like the 23 team we've seen offensive
of breakthroughs and the pitching can be stellar.
What's the one missing piece?
A power hitter.
Versus the 23 team.
Yeah.
Well, they didn't have that in 23, but that was what was holding them back in 23.
Yeah.
They needed a power hitter.
And so I think that I don't know if it would make us feel like the 2020 team.
The only thing that would really make me feel like that is if Zach Allen maybe went
out there and just was unbelievable on the pitching mound.
But we still, what we still were only getting it out of like three guys that year.
You know what I mean?
Like it really was.
It just felt different with Zach, though.
It really did.
He was special.
Maybe that's it.
Maybe it's Zach.
Maybe Zach is what was missing.
We're just, we're breaking the computer now.
Last question and probably the most important one,
Damon and Mighty Schumann wants to know should the Diamondbacks have some celebratory item in the dugout for players to hold when they hit a home run like the Mariners Trident and the Pirates welding mask,
which I fucking love the welding mask.
There's no doubt about it.
I mean, this is where Jesse Jr. came from.
And they cut his head off because they felt like he was bringing him bad luck.
He's a rescue.
Yeah.
I don't understand, Damon.
I, like, again, I don't think they'll ever have this because I still think this is on
Tori not wanting to show up the opposition.
But if we did show up the opposition, what would be like an electric item, non-snake-related?
I think maybe a snake or non-snake-related.
I was going to say the shakers that we used to have, the rattles we used to have would go pretty
crazy if we brought those back.
And then the, because guess what?
If they brought those in the dugout again, Derek, all of a sudden they're back in the crowd.
Yeah.
And everybody's shaking the rat.
Maybe.
I'm thinking, I'm thinking, well, I said not snake related, but why don't we get a real snake skin jacket?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Like a motorcycle jacket.
Just a motorcycle.
Yeah.
Leather.
Leather motorcycle.
Yeah.
And unfortunately, snakes were harmed in the making of this jacket because it's real.
We harmed lots of them in making this.
But that's okay.
That's, that's snakes fight each other.
Haven't you seen nature videos?
The thing is it has to be somewhat snake related or else.
It kind of just doesn't really make all that much sense.
No,
unless it's Arizona related.
We could think of something Arizona related.
Can we get like a cactus?
We'll see,
okay.
I at one point there was a snake,
a stuffed snake in the clubhouse and a sombrero.
And I was like,
give me a hot glue gun and I will make you guys a celebratory item in like 10 minutes,
right?
But then I realized that a sombrero kind of means something else in baseball.
And you might not want a sombrero to be your celebrator.
to be your celebratory item
considering that you usually wear a golden version of those
when you strike out.
That's fair. Like it's kind of a bad connotation in baseball
although that would be kind of fun.
Right. See, Becca was with me. She said maybe a sombrero.
That's the only reason why I'm against a sombrero, Becca, but...
A sombrero probably would be our best option.
Yeah.
I'm not going to lie.
I mean, Carlos says I miss the victory vest.
We don't have to make it a golden sombrero.
The victory vest needs a little TLC.
The victory vest is still there, though.
It's still in the clubhouse.
and I believe they put it on when they do
their like personal in clubhouse celebration.
What about a cowboy hat?
I mean, I know we're not the Rangers,
but it's still Arizona.
That'd be kind of cool.
With a snake skin cowboy hat.
Snake skin on it.
Snake skin cowboy hat.
With the little,
like,
have you ever seen the cowboy hats
with a little adorned snakehead?
That's the one.
That's the one.
That's it.
We'll buy it.
A snake skin cowboy hat.
I know it's going to be entirely too expensive.
I will personally pay for it.
Oh, expensive to the whole city.
Hey, group of millionaires, we'll pay for it.
Don't worry about it, guys.
We got this one.
This is special.
We need to do this for them.
They're not going to do it for themselves.
No, they won't.
We need to make this happen.
We could start a fun though, legitimately and maybe pull together and get this thing going.
We'll do it through super chat.
And then you could just walk in one day with it in a case and be like, hey, I got you guys.
Like a regal hat box.
And they're going to be like, what?
They're going to be like, what is he doing?
And then they're going to open it up and they're going to go, oh my God.
I'll put a little GoPro in there.
so you can see their faces peek into it,
and then that we get that reaction.
I mean, is that as a snake's good cowboy hat,
not the best idea of all time chat?
It is it. I'm going,
I'm going tomorrow and I'm going to talk to marketing people.
It's genuinely special.
If I have to talk to Derek Hall and have a meeting with him personally,
I will, damn it.
I will.
Seriously.
We got Cool bro with two more super chats before I get him out of here.
Cool,
see, that's got us halfway there as far as the fund is.
He does. He's working.
First, he said Italian Heritage Night versus the Yankee.
And I guess that goes a little bit more of what we're working.
and against here, which is, you know, but also difference.
Yankees are not our big giant rivals like the Dodgers are.
Sure, but they're kind of a rival in history.
Yeah, I mean, we own, we own them.
I mean.
Well, again, also another series that you don't have to do anything special for because you're
probably going to sell that out regardless.
Like, is your son your rival, Derek, or is that your son?
Because that's how I feel about the Yankees.
My daughter is my rival.
She's my biggest off.
Are you kidding me?
Lily is by far my biggest.
Cool, bro.
was back $499 this time.
Thank you, cool, bro.
Says, we are giving the Dodgers fans a postgame concert in August and having
Taiwanese Heritage Night, Merrill Kelly Bobblehead Night Against the Rangers.
Oh, see, that's good.
See, and that's fun.
Is that right?
Is that really happening?
Because if so, that's funny to me.
Like, Taiwanese boppled head night against the Dodgers.
Seriously, guys, we got to do it again.
Again?
I don't know what the solution is on that one.
Like, I don't have a good team that comes in mind.
I know Corbyn Carroll's Taiwanese and Yumen Lin, but I'm not really familiar with too much
else. But I figure, I find, like, we could definitely do a better series there. We could. I agree.
I agree. Well, we love you guys. Thank you for hanging in with us so late tonight. You guys are the
best. Appreciate you. We'll be back, like I said, tomorrow or maybe even later today as we move
closer to midnight. Groundhog Mama has a snake skin cowboy hat somehow. This is a thing that she owns.
Just like, just like she brought me the beer bat, aka the champagne bat. She has everything. She has everything.
She owns everything.
She owns everything.
We might be able to bring that Snakes Kid Hat sooner than we thought.
But again, we love you guys.
We thank you so much for sticking around with us.
We'll see you back here tomorrow.
I already gave you all of our Twitter stuff.
You know where to find us.
But of course, most importantly, we thank you so much for your time.
It's your most valuable commodity.
We appreciate you sharing it with us.
We'll see you back here tomorrow for another post game show.
Until then, have yourselves a wonderful evening.
Behave yourself, Groundhog, Mama.
And remember, kids, baseball is fun.
But it's so much more fun when you beat L.A.
again.
