The Diamondbacks squandered a golden opportunity tonight to put themselves in position to make the playoff tomorrow.
But somehow, the snakes are still alive and they can slither their way into the postseason.
We're talking about all of it and why things didn't go their way tonight.
Right now, don't you go anywhere?
I'm from Studio K presented by our friends at Circle K, Damon Dog, in studio.
And I am your mayor of PHNX, occasionally known as Derek Monti.
I'm thrilled to have you guys here, but once again, I wish it was under better circumstances.
The Arizona Diamondbacks, who come off of a season high, six-game winning streak,
lose tonight to the San Diego Padres by a score of 10 to 7,
and they fail to put themselves in a prime position to secure a postseason spot tomorrow on Sunday.
Instead, what they now need is a lot of help.
They need the Phillies to lose once again, and they will need the summer.
how beat this Padres team that beat them tonight by a score of 10 to 7.
I am not alone.
Like I said, I got my guy Damon Dog in studio tonight who has been working his tail off here,
especially considering he's doing double duty covering both the Diamondbacks and the Wildcats.
But I'm pretty upset here overall.
And of course, I'm with most of you when it comes to what we saw tonight.
from the Diamondbacks. This is an emergency podcast, even though it was kind of pre-planned.
And regardless of if it's pre-planned, it's still brought to you by the good folks at ACE,
which is the presenting partner of all of our emergency podcast. If you're having any AC plumbing
or electrical issues at all, call our friends at Ace at 602-428-9-312, and they will get you squared away.
But, of course, the Diamondbacks could not square away their postseason hopes losing this one
by a score of 10 to 7 and dropping to 86 and 75 on the season.
And it does all come down to game 162 now for the Arizona Diamondbacks.
And not only that, but once again, just like the past three seasons in a row,
we cannot secure our playoff position on our own.
We need the help of somebody else losing in order for that to happen.
But really what I wanted to address tonight was the way that this game was mismanaged.
by Tori Lovallo by the Diamondbacks overall.
And not just this game, but the last two games.
Obviously, we have not done a podcast since this news broke,
but Nick Picoro broke the news on, what was it, Friday, right?
Friday prior to game one of this series that Corbyn Burns was going to be going back on the IL,
and he would not be pitching in today's game.
Instead, the Diamondbacks would have to basically turn to a bullpen game.
game in order to get through one of their most important games of the season. And while their
bullpen has been very good, they, let's be honest, they did not properly position themselves for this
bullpen game today at all. They brought in guys like Zach Gallen and Ryan Nelson into the
game won victory yesterday, simply to come in and get an inning of work. And those are the guys that
most likely could have helped you bridge between your opener and your actual bullpen in this game.
Instead, the Diamondbacks had to turn to rookie Jose Cabrera in one of the most high leverage games,
if not the most high leverage game of the season.
And Jose Cabrera, of course, didn't have a good game.
He gave up five earned runs in this one.
And he wasn't the only one that wasn't very good in this one.
A few of the members of the bullpen obviously couldn't hold this game close.
But when you have arms available to you, like Ryan Nelson, when you have arms available to you,
like Zach Allen, who, again, many people in this fan base probably wouldn't have been thrilled
about seeing in this high leverage situation.
But I think everybody could agree that we would have much rather seen Ryan Nelson
and Zach Gellon in this game instead of Jose Cabrera.
I tried my best to say my piece about Taylor Clark prior to him being the opener for this game.
And this had nothing to do with Taylor Clark's performance because the man has been a dog
for this team all season long.
But he's also been a dog that's been overused.
He's a reliever that had far too many innings pitched this year.
And it was a concern of mine as we got closer to the end of the season as far as these last few games.
And Kevin Ginkle was also in that realm as well.
But typically, just like, you know, just like the 100 pitch mark, right?
It's not to say that every starter needs to be pulled from a game at 100 pitches,
but there is some years of experience and science and, you know, medical input.
that suggests once you start pushing a starter past 100 pitches during 162 game regular season,
that it's not very good for his arm health,
and that at that point you are starting to risk their,
you're putting them into an area being injury prone.
The same could be said about a pitcher, the reliever,
that pitches over 70 innings in a year.
It means that they've been overutilized,
and it's a crazy number to reach.
So again, it didn't even seem like a great idea
for Taylor Clark to be the opener in this game.
So many things about this game felt mismanaged.
And I think that all of those things are the reasons
why we're looking at this team losing a 10 to 7 game.
But when we were in the thick in the middle of this game,
we had Jose Cabrera of all people come in.
Some people who I spoke to that are very high within the organization
or very knowledgeable didn't think we were even going to see in this game.
The opinion was no way is Jose Cabrera coming into this game.
Well, guess what?
He came into this game.
I understand that the Corbyn Burns news came late and that the Diamondbacks obviously had to scramble
in order to figure out what they were going to do for this game to start.
However, I would argue that when they were making the decision in last night's game
to bring Ryan Nelson into that game in game one, when they were making the decision to bring
Zach Gallin in at the back end of that game, even if the relievers were starting to give up
runs and even if a 12-run lead somehow started to get uncomfortable, it's still, they still had a
six-run lead. There were still no need to empty the tank when you know you had two games left,
and one of those games you knew for a fact while you were managing that first game, that you were
not going to have Corbin Burns starting in game two. I think that when you take a look at
across social media, you see the voice of the fan base and the fan base is upset because
it, the fan base does not seem to feel like Tori Lavallo and this coaching staff took this
game seriously. There's not even a blame in regards to the players, right? You're not blaming the
offense in this one. You could definitely place blame on Jose Cabrera for giving up those five
and runs, but you could also argue if we were playing the blame game that Jose Cabrera probably
shouldn't have even been put in to this circumstance. So I don't know if I blame him necessarily.
I know that sounds kind of crazy. That's Derek probably doing some copium stuff once again.
But like flea ball says in the chat, and you knew you had to win both games, right? That's it. It's a big part of it.
It's you understood the importance of this. You understood the importance of having to have your best pictures out there.
I mean, hell, even tonight, you had to understand the importance of trying to keep this game as close as possible.
And, I mean, it just didn't really feel that way.
Didn't feel that way.
And yes, Killer X, I'm 100% blaming Tori on this one.
I do think that once again, the relievers that are made available to him on any given night are also decided at a higher level than Tori.
and we've been told that before.
But I don't know how you couldn't blame Tori for using Ryan Nelson and Zach Gallen last night
and not having the foresight to need them tonight.
In fact, Tori even said in the postgame show that Ryan Nelson was available tonight.
So I don't know why you wouldn't go to them, right?
I do think that if we are going to do the thing that Derek does,
which is try to spin this podcast.
positively, the Padres needed to win one of these games. And you could tell tonight was kind of the
night that they wanted to do it because the Padres, unlike the Diamondbacks, had a sense of
urgency when it came to taking care of business. So they needed to win this game because they
needed to secure home field advantage for the wild card round. And they did that with the wind.
If there is one silver lining to this situation, it is the fact that now they've done that.
and the Padres legitimately have zero to play for tomorrow.
The Cubs will play the Padres in San Diego for that wildcard round.
Now it's just about who plays the Braves in Atlanta.
And it comes down to us needing the Philadelphia Phillies to lose, as they have been doing,
to the Tampa Bay Rays for one more game, and the Diamondbacks need to win.
and legitimately that is all that this comes down to now at this point.
Game 162.
All the highs and the lows, all the ridiculous crap we've been through collectively as a family watching this team make us suffer through this season.
And I have no problem saying that because that's definitely what 2026 has felt like.
Win or lose tomorrow, this has been a difficult season for us to ever,
really wrap our minds around what this team even is, what their identity is,
if they're starting pitching is good or bad, if they actually have an offense,
or if it's just this weird collection of, you know, luck and hits and Gabby Moreno being
awesome and Nolan Aronado finding the fountain of youth.
I don't know.
Callan makes a great point.
What we do have to do is commend the raise because the race have had zero to play for
all week, yet they keep winning.
You know what they had to play for, Kellyn, the 2008 World Series?
The Tampa Bay Rays right now are getting their revenge on the Phillies,
and they can exact that revenge tomorrow by successfully helping the Diamondbacks
knock the Phillies out of the postseason before they even get there
in what many will consider or are already calling the most epic collapse
in baseball history.
I don't know.
their words, not mine.
But the Diamondbacks will have to take care of work here.
They have to take care of business.
And they have to win tomorrow against the Padres.
A Padres team that has nothing to play for and a Diamondbacks team that has everything
to play for with Michael Soroka on the mound.
And the journey's right.
We don't deserve Aronado.
We don't deserve Aronado.
We don't deserve what Aronado has been for this team.
I'm going to get out in front of it and say, stop comparing Nolan Aronado to Evan Longoria
because as good as Evan Longoria was for this team,
he didn't lead this goddamn team in home runs.
He didn't have his best year that he's had in four or five seasons coming here
and also only being paid $5 million by this team
because the St. Louis Cardinals are picking up the rest.
Yes, Ken Burns Breakfast, you're right.
That Mets collapsed.
That was definitely more epic for sure.
And I really don't care about whose was bigger.
I just hope it happens to them.
There's no better team for it to happen to anyway.
right their fans are already wearing bags on their heads during tonight's game that is a fan base
that deserves what they're already putting out in the universe i commend you guys you guys are
mad you guys are mad at mike hazen you're especially mad at tory tonight that's i'm look sunday dinner
still happened in tomorrow we're to lose i'm going to tell you that but i will say that i can
understand where many, you know, many fans anger and, and, you know, everything is with this team
tonight. I know Damon's mad. Damon barely got to watch this game, but he had to watch it through,
you know, through second screen. Look at how angry he is. Look at it. I'm smiling too much. Hold on. Let me,
I need to fit your mood. But yeah, no, they had an opportunity tonight, Damon, to take care of business.
Again, blame game isn't lighting up the batting light tonight.
Offense isn't getting any blame.
And I don't even know, once again, if I need to necessarily blame the pitching
because I just don't understand how a rookie Jose Cabrera is out there on the
mountain for this team and the most important game of the entire season.
Yeah, Derek, I hate to be this guy, but I could have Kevin Thomas vouch for me
when I say this.
I am watching both the Arizona football game
and the Arizona Diamondbacks game
at the same time in studio here at PHNX HQ 3.
Jose Cabrera comes out for,
what was that, the fourth inning,
fifth inning, whatever it was that he went and pitched.
Fourth inning.
I saw who was up, who was due up.
I saw that heart of the order,
and I'm sure a lot of D-BACs fans felt the exact same as me.
I said out loud to Kevin,
this is where it all comes crashing and burning to the ground.
Jose Cabrera is about to give up a monster inning
to this heart of the San Diego Padres lineup.
And it's exactly what happened.
It's exactly what happened.
It felt like to your point that you were making for most of this show, Derek,
it felt like it was the most obvious thing in the world
that he was not going to come through in that moment.
It felt like truly there was no chance Jose Cabrera
was going to limit the damage to one run,
less than one run against Fernando Tautis,
Mani Machado, and all of the premier elite hitters
in that Padres lineup.
And it played out exactly in the most obvious fashion
of all time.
And that's a tough way for your season to potentially end
is, you know, in a way where, you know,
Tweedl D and Tweedle D and Tweedle Dum
in the fan base can sit up here and go,
Jose Cabrero was never going to have a clean inning.
So why can't the people that are making the decisions, whether it's Tory or whether it's people in the front office that are kind of setting this order, why don't they have the foresight to say, hey, maybe we don't pitch Ryan Nelson tomorrow so that he can take that Jose Cabrera spot for the next game.
And that's the kind of little things that can lose you a playoff berth.
And it feels like it potentially lost the Diamondbacks of playoff berth tonight.
I think too much falls on tomorrow now.
You have to have the Phillies lose again,
and you have to have the Diamondbacks obviously win, right?
And again, it's still your own,
your fate is in your own hands by winning the game against the Padres.
But it's absolutely not when it comes to the Phillies.
As we said, the rays really have nothing to play for.
So if the Phillies come out inspired and ready to fight for their season,
why would the raise give a shit right like what would the raise have to give a shit about like oh okay
whatever it doesn't matter we've we've locked up our spot we locked up the top spot we've locked up
home field advantage we're good right so it definitely feels like um i mean it it it definitely feels
like this was a huge wasted opportunity to secure that one extra win that you might need that you
might not get tomorrow you know um but again the podres did have something to play for and they did
secure that so now they have nothing to play for at this point all they have to play for tomorrow is
you know to play spoiler to the diamondbacks and i don't even know if they care to do that
i would i would once again look at this strategically and this is just being honest even if the diamond
backs take two out of three from the Padres. I still feel like the Padres would rather the
Diamondbacks were in the postseason than the Phillies. Because the Phillies, even though they've
really been in a downward spiral lately, I still think perception-wise people view them as being
the more dangerous team with the more dangerous lineup, even if that's not necessarily the case right
now with how bad their offense has been lately. But, you know, again, it might just be one of those
things that the Padres might be willing to lay down and die and not really care about tomorrow's
game either because maybe they would rather see the Diamondbacks than the postseason rather
than the Phillies. I don't know. That could be a winning move for the Padres potentially
just as far as how it could set things up. Maybe they beat the Diamondbacks tomorrow. The Phillies
make it in and the Padres come back to regret that when the Phillies eventually beat them
you know, at some point in the postseason.
I don't know.
But let's hope that doesn't happen.
And let's hope the other thing happens.
And let's hope they overthink this.
And then we can eventually get back to the World Series.
That's really what it's all about, right?
But this is, yeah.
And Dos Mafia says Padres were 0 and 6 versus Phillies this year.
So that might be a good reason to just let us kind of slide in there.
It's still, even with the win, though.
even with the win, still requires the Phillies to lose tomorrow.
And that's still asking a lot.
I think, though, that we should be happy that we are here on game 162, still alive, though.
Still alive, still fighting for a playoff chance and still playing relevant baseball games.
And tomorrow is the biggest one.
Tomorrow is the biggest, obviously, it literally tomorrow is a one game playoff for the Diamondbacks that they could still win and still lose.
I'll tell you another thing Tweedledee and Tweedledum said, Derek,
that game 162 against the Padres was going to be for all the marbles.
And we were talking about that in March and April.
In March, Damon, in March we were talking about that.
And here we are.
It was inevitable.
It truly was inevitable.
And yet we find ourselves in this spot.
Man, are the Diamondbacks good at missing playoffs by a game?
Man, are they good at it?
If there is a competition for being good at something,
I would like to put the diamond backs and prop them up for,
I think they are the best at their specific something.
And that something is missing the playoffs by one singular baseball game.
Brother.
No one's better.
You know why?
They find they almost invent new ways to do it.
Oh, hey, come down to 160.
And now we have to wait to see these other two teams play a game to see if we can make our way in.
That's neat.
That's great.
I hope you guys are ready for Patty Cake, Hopscotch 2.0 tomorrow in that Rays, Phillies game.
Because the only way that this is truly meant to end is we win tomorrow in our game and the Phillies lose or the Phillies win versus the Rays.
Keeping the Diamondbacks out by not controlling their own destiny.
when if they just could have won this game that they had multiple leads in,
they could have fate in their own hands.
Yeah.
Well, they don't.
They don't.
But we do.
And we're going to be doing a postgame show tomorrow for that very crucial last game of the season.
And I can't believe that it really does come down to this.
Luckily, at least we know we're going to have a good starting.
pitcher on the mound in Michael Soroka tomorrow.
And again, cannot say enough about what that man has done on a very, very, very small
contract this year for this team.
Let's hope he can do it one more time.
Let's hope he can go out there and at least let the Diamondbacks take care of their
business.
You know, if they go out for Derek is, he's a Phillies fan clearly with his Philly fanatic
comment or profile picture.
and he says Derek and Damon are going to be chilling in Flagstaffed during the playoffs.
Is that our version of Cancun?
You know, I'd like to think Cancun is our version of Cancun.
It's very close to us.
Rocky Point.
Yeah.
Yeah.
San Diego is also kind of like Cancun.
Derek and Damon are hitting Pinyosco sitting on the beach.
Wait, watching this season unfold, watching the postseason unfold.
It's unfortunate, man.
they really found a way to get us all bought back in.
That's the bigger thing.
I think I gave up Derek and we were having conversations off air and whatnot.
I gave up six games ago, seven games ago.
And then they won every single baseball game after that.
And I was like, yeah, well, I don't, I don't even care unless they win the next one.
And then I'd wake up the next day and they'd win the next one.
And I started to care.
I started to feel the, you know, the playoffs in the air.
smell the roses a little bit.
And then just for it to end like this.
It's the most feedback thing ever.
Like they fully got us to all buy back in and believe that it was a possibility.
And then now they sweep the chair out from under us and we fall on our ass yet again.
They let you sit down in front of the mud puddle.
They gave you, the dumbbacks gave you a little, a little play cooler and a little, little
fishing pole and then they let you just fish and believe that there was fish in that mud hole.
And then they came over and smacked you in the back of the head and said,
you idiot.
That's what tonight is at least.
But yeah, Damon, watch party tomorrow.
Are we doing a watch party for the final game?
Yeah, we're going to do a watch along for the final game of the season.
Are you going to come in studio?
Yes, of course.
Of course.
You and I are playing each other in fantasy football this week.
So I don't have to hate you.
I can sit next to you and watch football and baseball.
and baseball. Absolutely. Yeah, we're going to be here doing a watch along right here at PHNX HQ 3. And then, of course,
I'm sure we'll have some postgame thoughts afterwards as well. So keep it locked right here to the
PHNX sports YouTube channel for all of your DBAX coverage coverage of all teams here in the state
of Arizona. But if you're here at 11.08 p.m. on a Saturday night, probably because you love your
snakes a little bit. You're a stick. Let's be honest.
Yeah, for sure.
The world's number one Arizona Diamondbacks podcast right here on the PH&X Sports YouTube.
We didn't get your thoughts necessarily, but I'm sure there's several people in this chat that would want to hear this.
Tori, the biggest to blame for the way that this all played out, or do you still think that this is still a combination of the like input from the front office and Mike Hazen and others?
But I don't know.
I know that that plays in on who's available and stuff, but just the overall decision.
to not keep Ryan Nelson and Zach Gallen available when you knew you weren't going to have
Corbyn Burns tonight.
Like I said, you know, I think it's just, it comes down to, it was so obvious Jose Cabrero
was not going to be made for that moment.
And I don't know what the answer is.
I think, you know, hindsight's 2020.
We can all sit here and say that move wasn't going to work or isn't going to work because
it already happened and it didn't work and it lost you the baseball game.
But that being said, you know, I just feel like,
that was not the spot for a guy like that against the heart of the order.
I think even like I know it's the fourth inning and you're not down to your late leverage
spots, but as people were saying in the chat, this game needed to be treated like a game seven
as every single game in this final eight games needed to be treated.
And I feel like why not throw in one of our better relievers against the heart of that order?
I think that that's maybe the path to making the playoffs.
instead it evaporates right in front of your face.
I would have loved to have seen maybe, you know,
Brandon Garcia or somebody,
Justin Martinez,
one of the premier arms,
Juan Mario even,
who pitched a little bit later,
might have even came in for Jose Cabrera,
if I'm not mistaken.
I do think that one of those guys would have been more equipped to handle
those haters specifically that were due up for the Padres in that moment.
You also had just other weird,
stuff go on that we haven't really addressed in this game. Justin Martinez coming in when it was already
kind of a blowout. You also had the offense oddly. That's what I'm saying. If you need J.mart to pitch,
if the if the going into the game, you're saying man, J.mart is he's got to throw today because that's his
arm schedule and we need him, you know, like continuing to be warm for if we do make the postseason,
then why not pitch him earlier in the game when it's a massive moment? And. Yeah.
Jamar could potentially get you to the next inning with a lead.
One less time having to face Fernando Tatis,
one less time having to face Mani Machado.
Like that's not going to make sense to me.
That's probably going to be what,
if I'm like putting my couch manager hat on,
that's where I'll be kind of stuck.
Your couch manager,
Fedora.
It's a fedora and it has a long feather that comes out of it.
Cool bro makes a great point.
where where is my beloved derrick law right imagine how valuable derrick law who was really good the entire time he was a part of this bullpen would have been instead of Zach Allen Derek law was kind of lights out for this team and didn't pitch a lot of innings this year so designating him for assignment just to bring back Zach Gallin who you don't trust and you aren't going to put in in high leverage situations doesn't make a lot of sense to me considering that Zach Gallen
is no longer a part of this team after the end of the year.
Derek Law, great name, better arm.
He was doing stuff for this team.
And I still, like, moves like that might end up being things that cost them down the stretch.
And that's, again, that's a move that's definitely out of Tori's hands and more in the Mike Hazen territory.
Yeah.
I mean, I don't even know what to say, man.
This sucks.
This really sucks.
I can't believe we got this close yet again.
And it felt like it was like truly,
it had slipped away.
So it was,
you know,
this final stretch was just kind of going to be what it was.
Oh,
well,
we got to go through the motions.
We got to play our final games and call it a season by Tori.
And then they were like,
what if we became the best team in baseball suddenly when it almost didn't even matter anymore?
And you're like,
oh,
that would be the most Arizona Diamondbacks thing.
ever yeah do that um here here we are man it's it's baffling it sucks and uh we'll be we'll be live
tomorrow to talk about win or lose celebration or depression and sadness and darkness
this show's gonna gonna have your back and have all your coverage right here yeah we will we
will be here for a therapy session for sure uh another point being brought up again like
it's like there are so many there was so much mismanagement by tory in this game right
Right. And I don't know all of the reasons for it, but like taking Gabriel Moreno out and putting an ADC in one of the biggest moments of the game.
I mean, I read online that it was due to like a tweak, like his hamstring being tweaked and that he's going to get, you know, treatment on it.
And he will be available as a DH tomorrow.
But they had to take him out of the game in that spot.
And again, it was just like, I don't know.
We make playoffs and we don't have Gabby anymore.
we don't have our best hitter yeah like that would that'd be classic classic it's crazy man it's just
crazy but uh i do appreciate all of you guys being here tonight like we said we'll be back tomorrow
with another live show um and a watch along so we'll be here for the game i believe it starts at noon
and then we'll be here with a post game show win or lose to lament or to celebrate one way or another
we win or lose we booze for sure we'll just have different forms of booze on hand uh
There will be a bat.
There will be champagne on hand, so don't worry about that.
And if we do win, there's a good chance that shirtless Derek makes an appearance on the show.
Do we got some super chat statement?
I can't see the chats.
Yeah, we do.
I was about to read those on for you, Derek.
Situation from where I'm at.
Yeah, I was about to get into those, actually.
So we're on the same page here.
Flea ball $5 says Tori managed last night's game like it was game seven and tonight's like it was one in April.
Well said.
Well said.
That's it.
Yeah.
Like this was just a casual game that it's just one of 162.
And, you know, win or lose will be fine.
Not the case, Torrey.
I stole my take from Flea Ball earlier, by the way, when I said that.
So shout out to Flea Ball.
Cool bro, 199.
Damon, if the debacks make the playoffs, paving his goat.
Sure, man.
I don't care anymore.
I don't think that's going to ever be the case.
I just want to make playoffs.
I don't care about paving.
I hope Pavin hits a walk-off tomorrow to send us to the damn playoffs.
That would be awesome.
You can't hit a walk-off on the road.
But that would be cool if you did the first one ever.
That'd be pretty sweet.
Gabriel 499 says, I'm mad, but I also think after seeing Phillies, bats, ice cold,
that they can still lose.
Nick M is pitching and our offense ironically hasn't been bad or hasn't been that of the issue.
Yeah.
I mean, it really hasn't been the offense lately.
You know, even tonight.
Like, look at what they did against Mason Miller late.
Like, this team had no fear of going in there against him.
And, I mean, if this game wasn't so out of hand, once again, due to Jose Cabrera's performance, you know, maybe even if the Diamondbacks are down, they were down by one or two by that point.
And maybe they take the lead.
Maybe the comeback happens off of Miller and we are celebrating, you know, but still, we'd still need to.
wait for tomorrow to know if all was secured or not.
I love this chat from Ernesto here who says,
I wanted to see what Cabrera could do might be one of the worst quotes Tori has ever said.
He said that in the post game show, right?
I was like, I, you, what?
What did you just say?
I want to see what Cabrera could do.
I want to make the playoffs, Tori.
I don't care about what Jose Cabrera might or might not be able to do.
That's a bad quote.
That's a bad quote.
Flea ball again, $5.
Tori's obsession with the righty lefty matchups needs to be studied by Pablo Torre.
I'd take a player that's been playing over someone on the bench all game.
There's an element to that for sure of coming cold off the bench.
It's a difficult spot to be in.
Pinch hitting is one of the hardest things to do in baseball.
Yeah.
It's one of the hardest things to do.
the baseball is one of the hardest things to do in baseball,
but let alone getting up cold off the bench and being expected to do it in a huge moment in a game.
Yeah, no doubt about it.
AZ Catch G, uh,
$5 has been locked in with our coverage all night long,
says,
what was up with Corbin and Tawa losing the ball in the lights slash clouds?
Very disappointing night.
Thanks again, guys, for everything.
That was also another one of those like real domino effect,
butterfly effect moments where if the diamondbacks are playing cleaner defense in the
first couple frames, you might have won this baseball game.
Because you were almost handing free runs over to the Padres, letting them build momentum
and get base runners on and create chaos out of it.
Extended innings, loud runs to score.
Even if it wasn't an insane amount of runs, like the Diamondback should have left that
inning with a lead.
And instead they left being down by a run.
And, you know, having to deal with all of that extra, you know, those pitches being thrown,
the, like you said, butterfly effects a perfect way to look at it.
The impact that that inning and those, that inning being extended, just in the way that
it was, Corbyn, who hardly ever makes a mistake like that, you know, kind of losing it in the
lights.
And then Tim Tawa literally having no clue at all where the ball was.
Like, I don't know, man.
Tim Tawa has had a couple mistakes now in the outfield in recent games.
And I get why they're putting them out there because they don't.
don't trust Waldy or whatever, but what is...
They obviously don't trust Lawler.
What, that's the part that's hard to take,
and what I was just about to say.
They don't trust Jordan Lawler, and they should trust Jordan Lawler,
because Jordan Lawler just hit a home run yesterday, yesterday in a big moment.
And then today, they're like, can't trust this cat, bench him.
That's one of those ones that's going to, I mean,
that's also one of the stories of this season is the, is the,
the inability to continue to allow your young guys
to kind of work through their issues.
And they just,
their leash is so short with the younger guys.
And then it's so long with the Pave and Smiths of the world.
Pave and Smith can do anything.
And he's back on the team.
He can strike out a hundred at bats in a row.
And he's penciled into the five spot the next day.
But Jordan Lawler hits a bomb.
And it's like, get him out of the.
lineup tomorrow and now we have a guy who's not a traditional i mean either is jordan luller but he's
i think he's better at it than tawa but tawa's you know an everything player he's a utility player he's
not a center fielder and luller has been made into a full-time center fielder and has looked pretty good
doing it i trust him a lot more to make those plays than i do tim tawa who's been playing
first base most of this season it goes back to when we were discussing you know someone like um max kepler
getting as much playing time as he was and knowing that he had no postseason eligibility.
Same could be said about, uh,
Hesu Sanchez that was just DFA'd, right?
Like these were guys that weren't going to be able to be a part of this team in the postseason.
So wouldn't you want to get those at bats to guys that are here and,
and try to get those guys hot and get them on a roll even if,
you know, even if it's even if they're not producing, right?
When you're comparing it to what those guys,
were doing those guys weren't producing either so i don't really know man but um what did i say i say
did i not say max kepler i thought i said kepler oh okay maybe you made me messed it up on second
reference or something but you said it at first you said max kepler cool bro one 99 why not dbacks
podres tomorrow be braves versus met's in 2024 yeah why can't the podres throw us a bone
division friends we call i'm saying yeah friends
enemies. The power of friendship. Yeah. Happens again. What if you guys were just like, hey,
what if they won the game? And we let me. I'm gonna, wait, let me address something because this dork
Lord Vader Cush who might be Killer X's burner account somehow. No, Killer X is like actually like a
like a, uh, I think Killer X would say all of the troll stuff to our face if we saw them in person.
There's no chance this Lord Vader Cush guy would be saying.
any of the things that he's put in the chat tonight.
No, we're just not an idiot like you that blames Tori for everything all the time in every game
because there's times where the blame is to be placed elsewhere.
But as you can see, this entire show, we've placed it on Tori.
So I don't know what more you want.
But you can go be a loser somewhere else if I'm being honest because there's no reason to sit here
and keep telling us how we're talking out of both sides of our mouths.
Appreciate you being here at 11.22 p.m. on a.
Saturday night, though, my man.
It looks.
Just to get your pot shots in.
We appreciate it.
Dinner's on it tonight, Derek.
Yeah, for sure.
But appreciate the rest of you for your super chats.
Don't appreciate this team for what they did tonight.
Definitely don't appreciate needing to go to a bullpen game.
That's another thing, too, I will say, before we go on.
The shoulder inflammation is obviously very real for, you know, I'm not going to question that when it comes to Corbyn Burns, right?
But I'm going to say Corbyn Burns did say in an interview that he wasn't feeling any pain
and that it was more about his velocity being down.
And I understand he didn't want to go out there and cost his team games when he felt like
he had potentially a dead arm situation and wasn't at his best, wasn't actually at 100%.
But I can't, I still can't help but feel like Corbin Burns still would have given us
a better chance to win this baseball game.
Oh, yeah.
I mean 100%.
And he pitched pretty well this.
season when he came back. I know it was very limited. His innings were limited, but I thought he looked good and I'm excited to watch him next season. But yeah, we would have had a much better chance of winning if he could have given us four innings tonight, you know, four innings. It's hard not to feel that way. Zero runs, one earned run, something like that. Yeah. Yeah. But, you know, again, I also appreciate the fact that he didn't want to cost this team their chance at the postseason by being bad out there. But maybe he wouldn't have. Maybe he would have, maybe he could have helped. I don't know. Yeah. Overall, this.
This one sucks.
I mean, even the end score being 10 to 7, I don't feel like justifies or is an accurate
depiction of how this game went.
I do applaud the offense for putting those late runs in and trying to get something started
when this game felt like it was far out of reach.
But I think the hope now is that they can somehow keep this role going offensively into
the finale tomorrow and get a solid start from Michael Soroka, who has given them
many solid starts this year, get one more from him in the regular season and help them
at the very least do, like I said earlier, their part, do their job to secure their way into
the postseason and then keep your fingers crossed that the Phillies can get swept by the
rays and the rays can help us out one last time. But yeah, I also appreciate Killer X trying
to tell everybody not to get their hopes up so that there's no heartbreak. Appreciate you, Killer X.
I appreciate you guys all for being here.
Thank you guys for your time.
We'll be back, like we said, with a watch-along tomorrow
and then a post-game show after tomorrow's game, win or lose.
So make sure to join us for all of that.
Until then, you can follow us on social.
I'm at Cap underscore Caveman with the K.
Damon is at Damon Dog with a DAWG there at the end,
and we're all Damon's dogs.
Bark, bark.
He's alive and well, though.
Don't forget that.
He's alive and well.
Our show is at PHNX underscore D-Backs,

You lost him, didn't you?
He's not around.
You have the bat, though.
You have the bat.
All right.
Well, again, we appreciate you guys so much.
We'll see you back here tomorrow for another one last regular season, post-game show and
watch along.
Hurrah.
So appreciate you guys so much.
See you then.
Until then.
Have a wonderful rest of your night.
And remember, kids, baseball is fun, but it's so much more fun when you just take care of
business in game 161 instead of waiting.
to do it in 162. Cool bro says I miss Tommy Troy.
