What's up, Derek?
What's up, Patrick?
Don't you fucking dare.
No, don't you fucking, don't ski me right now.
I am not in the mood to be skied right now.
But we are going to try to pull, pull ourselves up on this one.
Welcome in to the P.HNXD Backs podcast.
The final World Series postgame podcast that we are going to be doing, of course, that in itself sounds very sad.
I am your mayor of the postseason, your mayor of the World Series, but not maybe your mayor of hitting because that abandoned us at some point.
But my name is Derek Montia.
This man next to me is Patty Plantain, aka my hot tag partner, the one and only Patrick Lines from DNVR,
an organization covering an organization that we won't even get into
their whole problems with the World Series.
But there is one less team that does not have that championship in their franchise now
because the Texas Rangers are your World Series champions.
And I want to first start off before we get into nitpicking what happened tonight
and really judging the poor performance by our snakes.
I want to just tip our cap to the Texas Rangers because what this team has done in the
playoffs has been absolutely incredible.
They're 11 and 0 on the road games in the World Series on the postseason run to the
World Series.
They just seemed unstoppable.
Even when they lost one of their biggest stars, one of their biggest offensive weapons,
this team just kept rolling.
And again, salute to that team, our champions, who will now have that, you know,
have that checked off, one less team that stand next to the Colorado Rockies.
I'm going to just attack him.
I'm going to tell you that now.
And he doesn't deserve it.
He absolutely doesn't deserve it.
But I'm in a negative mental place right now.
Damon's in a very negative place.
And he, meanwhile, is just making us laugh and joking over here and having a good time, which I need because this is not great.
But I do want to.
Jerry over here.
He's just hilarious.
It's just all jokes and smiles.
What are your thoughts, though, on, of course, let's just start with the Texas Rangers and what they were able to.
do here in the postseason.
I don't want to start there.
I want to start with the Diamondbacks and Diamondbacks fans because it sucks.
It sucks to lose.
It does.
It sucks even when you're playing with the house money, when you are a year or two early,
when it seems as if you can come back, it seems as if all of the pieces are there and you've
got a mastermind like Tori Lavello to go and push those right buttons as he had the entire
month long.
Only problem is now it's November 1st
and unfortunately those buttons
didn't work for Tori Lavelle today
and the Diamondbacks
lose this one in a not so
nice fashion and that's
a bummer for the Diamondbacks for Tori
for all the Diamondbacks fans but credit where credit
is due the Rangers were the better team
you know there was
there's nothing you can really point to
in the Diamondbacks dug out
and say you know
this this went terribly wrong
sure there were certain performances that we can go back and look and say, and we will when it
comes to game five, but the Rangers ended up going out. They ended up playing better and almost
ambushed, really, because this was a series that I think a lot of people thought was going to go deep,
six or seven games. It only ends up going five, and it ends up being fairly lopsided
to the Rangers. And so credit to them, credit to Bruce Bochie, winning another World Series with a
different franchise doing it in his very first year down in Arlington, incredibly impressive.
and obviously for someone who covers the Colorado Rockies
and has a chance to get to know John Gray and his family just a little bit.
And it's nice to see him to get a ring.
But first and foremost, my thoughts are with the Diamondbacks
and the Diamondbacks community and fans because Rangers,
they've got several days ahead of them.
They've got the entire off season to kind of relive it all
and to be happy and to smile.
And I think the Diamondbacks will be able to do that too.
But right now it sucks.
Yeah.
And I think you addressed it.
There definitely was a disappointment in the way they performed tonight.
If the Texas Rangers would have beat them and the Diamondbacks would have put up a good effort,
that I think would have felt differently tonight.
Their offense wasn't just flat.
It was non-existent.
And I don't mean that they didn't get hits.
I don't mean that they didn't get runners on.
They had absolutely a ton of opportunities to score.
They left 11 runners on base.
they were 0 for 9 with runners in scoring position
and they absolutely could not get the job done
when it came to scoring runs
with all of those opportunities they had against Nathan Avaldi
who was not very sharp tonight.
It felt very much like at any point
the Diamondbacks were going to break through
and that didn't happen.
But Zach Gallen was absolutely incredible
on the mound for this team tonight.
The milk man delivered.
There is no question about that.
And I don't, I mean, even when things kind of
obviously went sideways on him there
in the seventh inning and it went
from a no hitter to giving up the one
run that's honestly the one run
that was enough for the Rangers to win with the way that the offense
was producing tonight
he was incredible he set a postseason
record for the fewest pitches thrown
through four innings he had
35 35 pitches in four
innings absolutely cruising
he did everything the Diamondbacks needed
him to do in order for the team to have a chance to win.
You know, he set the most consecutive batters retired to begin a World Series record,
franchise record for the Arizona Diamondbacks.
He retired each of the first 14 batters to start tonight's game.
And he came close to the most consecutive batters retired to begin a World Series.
It's the most since Charles Lebrant.
Charlie LeBrand.
Charlie LeBrand.
Right on top of that.
The Royals in 15, Game 6th of 19.
On top of that first pitcher in World Series history, no, no, no, no, no,
real qualifiers on that to
throw six innings
of no hit baseball with his
team facing elimination back against
the wall. Zach Allen, he
did his thing. Yet the announced
crew seemed like they were more excited about
Nathan Evaldi getting out of the
bases, you know, the jams
that he got himself into, which was weird.
But they had no problem talking about
the fact. Were they respectful to Zach Allen?
No, they were not because they just kept
talking about him having a perfect game and a no
hitter all the time. So no matter
what, it just kept being one of those situations where you still feel like the announces are a bit
against you. But, you know, whatever. That didn't matter. What didn't, what really mattered tonight was
the Diamondbacks lack of offense. Obviously, Paul C.Walt coming in there in the ninth and not being
able to do his job and hold this game sucked. But I think the big thing here is, it didn't matter.
One run, two runs, four runs, 12 runs. This team couldn't produce offensively tonight. And they did
exactly what we feared they would do because that consistency factor when it comes to their
offense has been a problem all season long and it kind of reared its head here at the worst
possible time they had three more outs there in the bottom of the ninth to make something happen
damon kind of pointed out you know they're going to go out and get a run or two they got one
it's like eh all right at that point when it's five nothing uh two you figured that was going to
happen but i think all the momentum or any momentum that the diamondbacks had at that point
even just in their own world.
Rangers, obviously a lot more momentum.
But the little that the Diamondbacks had really was squandered with how the Rangers
ended up getting those four runs in the top of the ninth with,
sure, a physical error, but also maybe a mental error with the ball just going right
past a gold glove finalist in center field in Alec Thomas.
That was wild.
You have three consecutive singles to load the bases.
The ball gets past Thomas, two more runs score.
and then he's able to,
Sewell is able to get Tavares
and Jan Kaskowski out
before Marcus Simeon,
406 feet, two-run, home run,
gives the Rangers,
homers in 16 consecutive games,
continues their streak.
Sieger also singles.
And at the end of the day,
this was something that Jesse tweeted out,
Paul Seawald, in the wild card round,
NLDS and NLCS,
eight innings pitched,
three hits,
no runs allowed,
one walk 11 Ks
and in the World Series
in those two games
game one end game five
two innings pitched six hits
six runs two walks five kids
it's terrible night and day
but again
they could have come in and been perfect and still
still still I don't know
0 for nine with runners
scoring position through those five innings
and throughout the rest of the game
they just kept getting guys on
against the Evaldi and I mean it just
that's that's been
the story of the diamond back season
of times. Damon said honestly the most Diamondbacks thing ever would have been for them to all of a sudden
score three runs in the bottom of the ninth, which I'm actually really glad they didn't do because
I might not be here right now. I couldn't make any promises that I would have been capable of
not just throwing myself on the ground like a small child and having a tantrum for 45 straight
minutes. I would have been seen red. If that would have been the case. Yeah. This man would not have been
able to get anything ready for production or anything like that. But I want to give a shout
out to you guys because, of course, the one thing that has been special, win or lose has been
you guys being here in the chat. I don't care what team you root for. I don't care if you want
to be here to celebrate and call us losers and all this other stuff. I don't care if you're a
Diamondbacks fan and you're absolutely furious for the fact that here in a couple of minutes,
I'm going to try to look on the bright side of this whole thing. And you might just want to
earmuff it. I don't know. But I just want to say, we absolutely appreciate every single one of you.
guys for being here. Shout out to Carlos for the super chat. He said, I am sad, but still will be wearing
my NLCST shirt. People may call it the second place shirt, but I'm so proud of this scrappy
underdog team going the distance. 2020 was a hell of a ride and the future is bright in Arizona.
That couldn't be more true. Thank you so much, Carlos. I love that. Tony, we thank you. We love
you for your super chat. Tony said not the finish we wanted, but still an incredible postseason from a team
that no one saw coming.
Most of all, thank you, Derek, Jesse, Sean, and Patrick.
Damon, scorer, so David said you guys gave this postseason the energy we needed and we love
you for it.
Let's go D-BACs, 2024.
Thank you.
Thank you, Tony, for being here all the time.
We appreciate you guys so much.
And that's an incredible super jet.
Appreciate you, my.
Our guy, Pedro, says, proud of this team.
Thank you, PHNX for the wild ride on the wagon.
Let's get this wagon tuned up and back for 2024.
Let's soup it up.
Let's add some jets to this wagon maybe, you know?
Like, I don't know what that means, but let's do something cool.
Maybe a couple more horses besides the three.
Yeah, let's add like, postseason.
Yeah, let's add some three or four more horses to this stable we got going on.
Kevin Haskey, thank you.
He said MLB is not ready for AZ next year.
You're right.
They weren't ready.
They seemed very much against us.
And then we've seen that in the tweets.
We've seen that all over the place.
Positivity is good right now in the chat, guys.
Yeah, we love it.
That's really nice to see.
Altegzzi says, not going to lie, I'm fucking hurting right now.
So am I. You are not alone, my friend. I take heavy losses like this emotionally. It's going to hurt for a bit. Still recovering from the 2021 NBA Finals too. My wounds are still open from that as well. I will say this in regards to that sentiment. That's real. Like I understand there's a lot of people that aren't going to be able to look on the bright side tonight. I understand there's a lot of people that aren't ready for that. And that's absolutely okay. But what I want to say right now and start with that message is this team.
is special and they are incredible and they deserve our,
they deserve our respect.
They deserve our applause,
even with what happened,
even with the way things went wrong in this world series.
Damon still believes this team was the better team.
And they,
they just kind of,
you know,
I think someone,
someone said it in the chat.
That game one,
you know,
that game one loss really seemed to just kind of take,
take a lot of the air out of their sales and really felt like it changed things,
you know,
but they were able to get game two.
all of us felt like things to turn around.
But this is absolutely a team that so many of us,
even those of us that are hurting right now,
never really thought we're going to make it this far.
And if you did think they were going to make it this far,
you are an absolute madman and I love you,
but it's hard to think that this team
with the way they performed during the regular season
and the way that they narrowly made the playoffs,
that they could potentially go on this kind of run,
this kind of run,
where we go into a place like Milwaukee
and we go on to take a division,
winner that has excellent pitching with a team that really couldn't do much offensively and we sweep them, right?
We take those two games.
We go into Los Angeles against the Dodgers, a team we know we can't beat, a team that absolutely has been our big brother and has absolutely just swatted us down at any notion that we were going to be competitive with them as a franchise.
And we swept them.
Wow.
And then we take on the Philadelphia Phillies.
We get to a point where we are down, but not out.
And having to win two games down three to two after losing a game here at Chase Field
and having to win two in Philadelphia, an impossible task.
Impossible.
That no team should be capable of considering Philadelphia's success at Citizens Bank Park.
Padres couldn't do it last year.
Padres couldn't do it at Citizens Bank Park.
And they made the fucking World Series.
This run in the Yoffs has been one of the most incredible experience.
of my entire life. I've covered this team for 11 years. I have never thought that I was going
to see in that time this kind of run. And the exciting part about this is this team, this franchise,
is comprised of 23-year-olds who were the reason why they got this done. It was a team effort.
You know, obviously so many, I don't want to leave out the Tommy fans and the Evan Lengoris.
I don't want to leave out the members of the bullpen that were so crucial to this team making it here.
But man, this has been not only incredible, but it's not an ending experience.
It's not something that is the end of the story.
It is just a chapter in the story of this particular Arizona Diamondbacks iteration and what they do.
Right.
But I just couldn't be more excited for what the future holds for this team.
Yeah, remember when we swept the Dodgers?
That was fun.
I mean, you know what I mean?
Like, I'm just saying, like, there's just,
I think someone said it on Twitter that sweeping the Dodgers was kind of our world series.
And I think for me, I was glad to see this team not let up after that, right?
Because that is such a huge accomplishment.
That is such an end boss that you can't beat, right?
Like you're so excited, you know, and then you get to Mr. Dream or Mike Tyson at the end.
And then they beat your ass, right?
Like you can't be excited.
You got asked Mr. Sandman because you're going to get to.
Don Max had the cheat code to get there.
They did.
Not a lot of people can do that.
It takes a couple lives.
You lose a couple lives.
You got to reset.
Start from the beginning again.
And the Diamondbacks, you know, we're able to do that.
And it's really impressive.
You know, it's just a shame because there were so many opportunities early on in this game.
And that was the thing is those, that 0 for nine with runners in scoring position, they were basically all in the first three innings.
Like, you know, when I keep my notes going eating by inning with looking at the big plays, it was like, all right, here's a small opportunity that was squandered.
Here was a bigger opportunity.
that was squandered.
And there was a lot of things.
Think about how the game started.
A four-pitch walk by Corbyn Carroll and first pitch.
Immediately.
And you go, okay.
Chaos.
This is what we had prescribed.
A scoreless first inning from Zach Allen.
And he's able to do that in 13 pitches.
And top of the top of the second, seven pitches.
Another seven pitches after that.
But you go, this is what you prescribed.
Marte grounds out, which allows Carol to move over.
And unfortunately Moreno grounds out with the infield in.
And Christian Walker battles back on a one-two count to draw a day pitch walk.
But that opportunity is squandered.
And there's a couple of those moments too that unfortunately didn't happen for the Diamondbacks.
And had they just gotten a lead, obviously we're talking about a much different game here.
And we're talking about a day off tomorrow before going back to Arlington.
But unfortunately, we don't live in that world.
and the huge opportunity in the bottom of the fifth
where Marte has the one-out walk.
Moreno strikes out looking,
but then Walker with the two-out single.
Runners on second and,
runners on first and third, excuse me.
Walker steals second base,
his sixth sole base of the postseason.
Bam, two-out walk.
Bases loaded.
And Lordus Coriel Jr., unfortunately,
grounds out on the first pitch.
That was the ninth of the O for Nine
runners in scoring position.
And Derek, I put you back into a bad mood.
I'm sorry.
I didn't want to talk about.
I was over here trying to be positive.
Let's get back to the, you know, the nice messages.
The super chats.
I don't want to talk to this guy anymore.
I want to talk to you guys.
A piece of Yoshi, who still has fired Derek as his Twitter handle, by the way.
He has fire all of us.
Patty's fine.
2015 Mets and 2003 Diamondbacks both made a crucial error in the ninth that resulted in a five game loss in game five.
And the closers sucked.
Team made me relive my trauma.
Well, I'm sorry about that.
runner up says Super chat.
I have no sympathy for Yoshi ever at any time.
You guys know that.
Runner up, thank you for your super chat.
Thank you,
Caesar says legacy is secured for Zach,
but I'll never forget Bochy and his big ass head laughing at us after the huge error.
I hate moral victories,
but won a run for Arizona.
I don't, again,
I don't even know if it's a moral victory.
It's not a moral victory.
You just have to be excited that they did this, right?
And again, not tonight.
I think somebody is, yeah, ruler 14.
He says any optimism for next season needs to be repressed.
That was a great run.
But unless the owner does something shocking, we will not be back.
How do you know that?
You don't know that.
There's no way to know that.
And also, there's no way to know what they're going to do.
There's a point to be made there, though.
I mean, teams with our payroll don't typically make it to the World Series.
And I think the point more is that if we pay what we paid for this team next year,
there's a very high likelihood we don't find ourselves back.
We need to invest in the team and sign real.
players to help us put put us over the top i i agree with that point um to a certain degree uh talking
about making a shocking move madison bumgarner shocking move that didn't move the needle shirt wrong guy
but who's to say that the next guy that's your shocking move isn't to be that guy and also the
don varser trade yeah don valser trade was not a shocking deal it was just a smart business swap
very savvy and that moved the needle in a real major way uh and sure other teams are going to be a
little more cautious when they deal with mike hayes and it wasn't going to no one's going to trust
never again. It was a win-win trade, I think, for Toronto
as well. But that being said,
Dalton Varshal led the league in defensive runs safe. Let's not forget.
Savvy moves. Like, again, the window
of contention is a window of opportunity
that you want to keep open,
you know, you want to keep it open
for a long period of time. It doesn't even have
to be bigger of an opening.
Just it's open longer. And that's one of the reasons
why, unfortunately, the Dinobacks didn't go out
and get that number four starter or number two or
number three starter to kind of tag team
with Kelly and Gallen.
And that was because of the guys coming up through the
pipeline that they knew, hey, we're going to need these guys to prop that window open up for a longer
period of time, get you more bites at the apple. So a shocking move could end up being a really
bad investment that almost hinders your window of opportunity like a Yasmani Tomas. So I do agree with
what you're saying, Damon. It just has to be the right guys. And I think you can make additions
on the maybe more frugal side and say, hey, you know what, this is a middle tier free agent or a
middle tier trade rather than going all in on somebody huge and someone's shocking. That's the one
thing I've learned about this is it's it's frustrating because the idea of just spending money is
it how you get here right like right right it worked well for the rangers but even you know
Corey seeker was incredible and definitely worth the money there's not a lot of guys that are
going to be worth that kind of money right and again if you are going to spend it on the player you
want it to be the guy who's going to end up being your world series MVP and bringing your franchise
their first championship i don't know what the diamond back i mean obviously there's some
glaring holes, DH, third base.
They cannot
not have a full starting
rotation again next season, right?
But you got to give credit where credit
is due that they were able to do it
with all these shortcomings, to do it
with a payroll that's so much substantially
less than other teams.
That part of it is
the fact that now you compound that
so many of these guys are young and they are under
team control for so long. Yeah.
You have that ability to build around them
because you know that it's
worthwhile. Building a championship franchise takes steps, right? The first step is identifying
who a core is that you have that you want to build around. And a lot of times, teams don't
have that. They don't have that core. The Diamondbacks absolutely have that core. They have four
23-year-old guys that all of them were doing big things. Brandon fought, rookie, 25, but a rookie too.
But a rookie, right? That's six more years of club control right there. Throw him in there as well, right? So
there is your core to build around.
right so a part of that now is of course performing and getting that experience getting to that
championship kind of level where you've you've had that taste of the playoffs that's done now you know
that you you want to build around these guys now you know these guys can take your team far you do
add those pieces you you spend that money because you see it's worthwhile and not to mention the fact
that deep playoff runs definitely help organizations like this as far as business goes so the
diamondbacks are going to be willing to spend that much more money than that's
this off season more than they have in the past.
And they have been willing to spend money.
They just didn't spend it in the right way.
Mike Hazen is the guy doing it now, though.
And I, again, trust Mike Hayeson, the fact that he's extended allows me to believe that he
can follow through on a long-term plan that is going to basically set the course for these
23-year-old guys throughout their entire career.
That's exciting because if you didn't fall in love with these guys this year, I don't,
I don't know if you're even a baseball fan.
I don't know how you can't fall in love with Corbyn Carol and Alec Thomas,
Gabriel Moreno and Geraldo Perdomo or Jerry P.
You know, even Brandon fought with the way that he has just really come on
and shown that the absolute stones he has during the postseason run.
Cherry P.
I love this team and I want them to now know that they can trust them to spend that money
and build around them and that this team is going to deliver for them.
Yeah, because they are so young and at the front part
their career they're all making league minimum there it won't be until their their fourth full year
as a big league or third full year that they'll be arbitration eligible so they'll still be relatively
cheap but then after that point that's when they become a little bit more expensive so you still
have two three years to maybe be a little bit aggressive a little bit more aggressive when it comes
to free agents i don't know they're going to go so far as to have those you know pillow type deals
that uh players like max scherzer has gotten of like all right well we don't want to sign you
really long term. So we'll give you
less years for a lot more money.
I just still don't see that the
Diamondbacks really being that aggressive,
but they, as you said, they do have a lot more flexibility.
A lot of revenue did come here
because of the World Series
and all the different rounds of the postseason.
But they're so cheap.
They're all making league minimum here
for two, three more years.
Dynamics can use it to their advantage.
Known baseball GM,
Elise said it felt like the moment became too big for them
for the first time this postseason.
The looking strikeouts was telling they were up there batting scared.
The ninth inning was so brutal.
Absolutely right.
And I mean, again, if you have been watching this team this season,
this is kind of how they performed when they faced the Rangers that first time.
This is how they performed at times when they had a big test,
especially against the Dodgers there late in August,
or not late in August, early August, I think.
But like, yeah, this team just absolutely at this point.
I mean, kind of the pressure seemed off of them for most of the postseason.
It didn't seem like it was, you know, heading in their way.
It felt like every single game they were the underdog.
They had nothing to lose.
All the pressure was on the team that was supposed to win.
And then we get to this series.
And I feel like the Rangers were still the favorites, but it kind of.
It was close.
It didn't feel as much like that, right?
And so, of course, you know, that's that's where, you know,
all of a sudden the Rangers, you know, that those key guys, especially on offense, were able to go off.
But I want to give my flowers to our Kingsnake.
There you go.
Honestly, could go to the entire 2023 postseason run, but we're not there yet.
We'll do that at a later time.
Our King Snake tonight is that gallon.
This man was incredible.
And when the Diamondbacks needed him the most, he was at his best.
You could argue that, you know, I think you could make some critical.
crazy argument. Maybe you take them out before he even gives up a hit, but you can't do that.
And if the Diamondbacks went on to lose this game, Tori would be grilled endlessly about that.
So it sucks. The things went the way they did in the seventh inning for Zach, but it's still an
incredible performance giving up three hits and one earn run in six and a third inning's pitch and
striking out six. So again, round of applause for this man. And honestly, you got to give it up for
the team. This was, again, such an unexpected run. There were times where, of course, especially as we got
to the end of the season, those little milestones hit, hey, we have a plus 500 record for sure. Hey, we might
hit the postseason. Hey, we did hit the post season. And how that, how that little like seed went from
that to now us being disappointed that the dive and back lost the world series in five games. I mean,
don't get me wrong it's it sucks this sucks and i know there's a lot of people to be angry at
that didn't perform well in this postseason run i think the hope here is that the the pieces that
the diamondbacks can build around for the future those young guys got you know obviously not
only a taste to be back here and and are hungry to be back here but they got a ton of experience
of being in this postseason and and hopefully when they're here again this will be an easier
you know, there'll be old vets, old grizzled vets.
Oh, no doubt.
The turquoise lining or the Sedona lining, if you will,
is that the Diamondbacks aren't going anywhere.
And we know that sometimes the team's trajectory isn't always linear.
So if they took a step back next year because, hey, maybe this year,
they went a little bit further than was originally anticipated.
So be it, I would have that much more confidence that 2025 is when they're going to get back into things.
they're overall on an upward trajectory.
And that's just fantastic.
Like this kind of experience that, again,
if we're sitting here this time next year,
or rather this time on October 1st instead of November 1st next year,
talking about the Diamondbacks missing the postseason or whatever,
this group of guys, they still have that postseason experience that
when they do get in in 2025 and they're still making the league minimum,
or they're in their first year of arbitration in 2026.
And then in 2027, they're still having their salaries kept
down in the second year of arbitration or some of them have already been extended, they will still
have this experience in 2023 of playing not only in the 2023 World Series, but the entire post
season, all of these games is so valuable to them to realize like, hey, one game is one game,
flush it, come back the next day, don't worry about any failures or any mistakes or any
errors that you made. You have the potential to be very, very dangerous and stay connected to one
another so that you can be as dangerous as possible.
And that's just something that you can't teach.
You can't teach that, Derek.
You can't.
No.
It's true.
So look, there's a lot to definitely be proud of.
Tonight's 5-0-0-0-loss, definitely not one of those things, unfortunately.
There's a lot of people you could probably blame here.
I think maybe Jake being in town and on our podcast was to blame, you could throw a little
shade there.
Definitely a mad dog.
Mad dog had a Diamondback's jersey on from what I understand.
He did.
Don't like that one bit.
You can blame the broadcasters.
Pitching Ninja?
I don't want him to take any strays, but pitching ninja.
No.
Flew him for today.
Absolutely not.
I will fucking defend pitching ninja until the end of time.
And honestly, Zach Gallen had himself a goddamn great night.
And I think that's because pitching ninja was in fact in the house.
Well, I'm going to protect our guy.
Take it back.
Jake, you are not at fault.
Rob, you might be.
Sorry, we're going to have to disagree on this.
Son of a bitch.
We're going to disagree.
Scurvy boy in the super chat.
says my heart is broken but my love for this team remains so impressed with this group of young

Also, a great way to get over a loss like this, of course, is with our friends at wink.
Oh, yes.
Because you never know how much happier you could be with just a wink of THC.
It is the perfect THC CBD balance in a seltzer drink.
It's called the golden ratio for a reason because there is an equal dose of CBD,
which, as they describe, is like THC's laidback friend who keeps the party from going off the rails,
aka Patrick Lyons.
Hey, maybe.
I think what you're seeing right now is a visual representation of THC and CBD working together.
That's what we are.
We could put on like little like school.
That's our tag team?
Yeah, that could be our tag team name.
That's cool.
I like that.
I'm CBD, your THC.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Okay.
Yeah, we got to maybe we'll come up with cool like names that are those little, we'll watch.
We'll workshop this later.
We will.
In the meantime, I'm going to drink some wink and workshop it because it's a balanced, light, and social drink.
It's bubbly enough, of course, to work the room.
And there are no calories, no sugar, no alcohol in Wink.
So make sure to check them out.
It's a refreshing flavored salter, just like your favorites out there that you might already be consuming.
So it's available in either a two and a half or five milligram can, and you can find Wink, which is W-Y-N-K for our listeners.
Right here in Arizona, look for Wink at all Sunday goods dispensaries in the Valley and Botanica.
dispensaries in Tucson.
You can also save money online by going to drink wink.com.
That's WynK and use code P-H-N-X for 20% off your order.
One of these Sedona linings, if I will.
I hate all of those things you're doing.
Turquoise linings?
Don't stop.
All right.
I'll keep it going.
I hate that so much.
You hate you, right?
You hate it, right?
You like plain all silver linings?
Yeah, that's it.
He likes plain all silver linings.
But you talk about all the young guys.
Zach Allen kind of getting off the Schneid a little.
bit. He's, you know, the so-called ace of this staff. And for him to finally pitch like that
tonight was really huge, according to game score, which kind of just boils down the innings
pitch, hits, runs allowed, walk, strikeouts, all of that. For tonight's performance, Zach Gallen
going to six and a third innings pitch, three hits, one run allowed, one walk, six
strikeouts. That was a game score of 68. That was the fourth best start for a Diamondbacks pitcher
this postseason behind.
Two from Merrill Kelly, of course, that game two start against Texas,
the one game that the Diamondbacks did win,
and the big one for Brandon fought in game three against Philadelphia.
So, you know, that's a positive thing,
is that he can at least, you know,
he can at least hang his hat on that one.
Yeah.
And feel good about that going into next season is his longest season.
You know, I don't know what that does for signing any kind of extension.
and we know that's going to be next to impossible
with him being a Scott Boris agent
or Scott Boris client.
But nevertheless, like that,
that's also like a positive too, you know?
Yep.
Well, we have some videos here from the clubhouse,
including first we're going to take a look
at Tori Lavallo's opening statement.
Before I get started,
I just want to congratulate Texas Rangers,
Bruce Bochi, Chris Young,
and all their players ownership.
they're an amazing franchise.
They won their first World Championship in franchise history.
And it's quite an accomplishment.
They were the best team.
They beat us Ferris Square.
As far as your question, yeah, I just got done telling the guys
that I'm so proud of what they've done.
And we have to step back for a minute and tell ourselves
that we've done a lot of really amazing things this year.
And then we got on this really fun ride
through the course of the oath season.
and you just never want it to stop.
It's like your favorite roller coaster that you never want to get off of.
And you want to be the last team stand,
and you want to be in the middle of a pile
and have everybody pile on top of you.
That's the best feeling in the world.
So some have been there,
and we're going to continue to climb that mountain.
And once we get there, we want to stay there for a long time.
But the reason why it hurts so bad is because we care so much.
We care about this baseball community.
We care about fans of Arizona.
The Bleets Sedona read with us that it backed us.
Those are the things that go through my mind and know all the players.
This is painful.
This is just plain painful.
I can't quite move past that right now.
But I will.
And I told the guys to absorb it and process it the right way.
Don't compartmentalize it.
Don't put it away.
Think about how you feel when you get to that point.
and we'll get to that crossroad at some point
and be able to say, wow, it's a great run.
We did something pretty amazing.
I like that he wants it to be painful.
Yeah.
It's true.
He was out there watching the team celebrate.
And you want that.
That's free motivation right there.
Dodgers are watching at home.
They're not getting anything out of this.
They're saying, oh, man, the Diamondbacks,
they were better than us.
All right.
They might have got a taste of it, obviously,
when the Dybacks did win game three.
hitting four home runs in an inning off of the Dodgers.
There are so many things to talk about and relive from this past month with the Diamondbacks in the postseason.
But still, there's the Padres, are a team that they spent like the Rangers and they didn't get the same benefits.
The Phillies didn't get the same benefits a little bit.
The Mets not even close.
Philly's, you would have got smoked.
Money doesn't fix problems like this, but smart team building does.
And the Diamondbacks have a good one.
in GM Mike Hazen.
So I think this is important for them to kind of just know what this feels like.
It's not going to change the outcome.
It's not going to be that painful to watch the other team celebrate.
But to see those things and say, not only do I not want that to happen to me ever again,
but I want to be in that spot.
I want to be like Will Smith, who has won his third world series in as many years,
in as many teams.
He now has a ring.
And that's somebody to strive to become.
and you only get that way if you're doing what you need to do on a day in, day out basis, physically, and maybe more importantly, as Tori showed this team mentally, being able to persevere when being down and being counted out and being told that you don't belong.
I think that this team was motivated by hate a lot and spite.
I think this team was motivated by being underdogs, and I think that this team was absolutely.
using every single stupid-ass thing that people said that they didn't belong and they weren't
here or whatever to motivate them.
And I don't, I mean, it was a good, it was a good, you know, tactic.
But like, again, it runs out because eventually the moment just is there.
And there was, there was no hate really anymore when they were in the World Series.
Now it was just about these two teams being there.
And I'm not going to say they run out of motivation, but they did use a lot of a lot of
lot of the lack of respect as motivation. And me being a petty person can fully appreciate that.
And that's the reason why I'm sitting here on this show right now is spite and hate and trying
to prove people wrong. But Tori definitely understands like, you know, from his perspective,
his career as a ball player and now his career as a manager, again, that's the kind of thing
that makes you hungry to be back there. Right. And there's just certain things. There's certain
people you don't even need to motivate. Like I imagine that Corby and Carroll is literally going to
to be in the gym tomorrow trying to get better.
Like there's people on this team that I don't think are going to relent on their pursuit
of being the best version of them of themselves they can be on the field.
But yeah, you want to put a little extra on it, right?
You want it to, you do.
You want to make sure that they do not forget how close they were and how much it hurts
to be this close.
Just like that's the way it is for us, right?
Like right now it hurts for us because, eh, you lose in the first round.
It's expected you lose to the Dodgers.
expected you lose the Phillies it was a noble run but to get this close you know and to to have the
first game you know slip through your fingers to win the second game so handedly and then to just drop
three straight games at home is is just heartbreaking and I think a big part of that is uh you got you got
you got to credit what the rangers have been doing this entire postseason on the road they just have been
road warriors and they refuse to be beaten uh when they are not you know when they when they are in your
house. So it's been hard. They're a very good team and that's again why we have to
tip our caps to them. But Tori here is talking about not getting the job done for fans and
I think this is where I might just lose it and start bawling. So let's let's hear what he has
to say. I felt that. I've been feeling that for the past month, maybe even the last couple weeks
of the regular season that this this fan base was behind us and they were they were ready to go
and every turn to root us on, cheer us on and allow something good to happen.
I'm just sorry.
I'm sorry to do my job to get us there.
But I will.
We all will.
And we know they're out there.
We love them.
They can say what they want to us and the good times and the bad,
but we know what they want.
They want a world championship as badly as we do.
We all bleed to Dino Red.
I absolutely cannot, please, Patrick.
Salvatore Anthony Lavello,
you are a treasure not only to the valley,
not only to the city of Phoenix,
the state of Arizona,
the Grand Canyon State,
you are a baseball treasure.
You were one of the biggest stars
of this entire postseason.
For all of the kind words
that we've had to say about the 23-year-olds
and the young roster,
it was Tori who was able to put all of these pieces in place
and make them work.
Bruce Bochie is the one that's going to have
a World Series ring,
came out of a role.
retirement and in one year he took the Rangers roster all the way to that promised land and
toi Lavello did the exact same thing for a roster that did not have the same level of notoriety and
even talent when you look at from the beginning of the year there's a reason why that roster
was making the kind of payroll that they were and why they were able to get so deep into the
postseason and so for many reasons no the Diamondbacks did not deserve to be here without
Tori Lavello.
And so to see him up there and to see his,
his heartbreaking, obviously, for
everything that he brought
to this team, to the
city, to the history,
to the franchise, that is, the
Arizona Diamondbacks. We said it
after they put away
the Dodgers, that this
was already the
greatest, the second best,
the second greatest Diamondbacks team in
franchise history. They are
unequivocally that, and no one thought that
going into this season. No one thought that when the postseason started after losing those three
games to the Astros and only winning 84 games. No one thought that other than Tori Lavello.
And so he deserves all of the credit and then some for what he was able to do. It was simply put,
a master class. When you talk about that Rangers team and you bring up Bruce Bochie, I think that
that's another example of how that Rangers team was built. And I'm not, I'm not going to get into some big,
like, oh, free agency, spending a lot of money on your team.
Like, they just went and they got quality guys that have done it before
and then paid them as much money as it needed to make them part of their organization.
Meanwhile, Tori LaValle was over here with like the bad news bears, you know?
Tori Lovolo was just the manager of this team.
They're the same age as the bad news bears in the movie.
They are the one shot on me where I'm crying here like a baby.
Don't zoom in on me.
Tight, get tight.
Oh, you bastards.
But no, I mean,
I love Tori, man.
I love him as a person.
That guy is just, it's hard not to like him.
It's hard not to like feel like you, like he talks about letting us down.
Like I have a bad show and I'm like, I hope Tori didn't see that.
You know what I mean?
Like I don't want to let him down.
I can only imagine being a player on his roster, right?
That guy is like a father figure to so many of those guys and he loves them.
He loves them to a fault.
He loves them to a fault because as a manager, you're supposed to like be able to be a
little bit more business about it.
And Tori Lavallo is not.
He loves those guys like they are his own kids.
And honestly, it's a big reason why he is the perfect man for the job for a team like
this, for an organization like this, that the only way they're going to be able to
get it done is by building through those savvy trades to bring in young guys that can
they can keep under team control by drafting wisely.
By getting someone like Corby and Carol that you just know is special in your organization
and extending him before he has his breakout season, there was no way you were going to get
that kind of, right? You're not going to get that kind of contract for him.
Amazing. After he is the rookie of the year. And that is an award. We absolutely are going to see
that man win next month or this month. It's November. I forget that. But a week of a half in fact.
I know. But man, it's just hard to see Tori saying that, saying that he let anyone down. Tori didn't
let anyone down. You know, the offense, maybe. You know, the guys tonight, the moment was too big for them.
And Tori did his best to get them prepared for it. And you can't say they haven't been in big
moments. They've been in absolutely huge moments.
This was just the biggest moment
on the biggest stage that
baseball had. And the big
difference here is that the Rangers
had the advantage when it came to the experience.
And as much as ignorance has been bliss for this
young team that hasn't had to know how
how much pressure they were going to face,
they felt it. When
that locker room kept getting more
and more full of the reporters, you know, when
our poor Jesse Friedman is like
30 people back using his little
phone camera he doesn't have a chance in the world to get good stuff you know like that pressure is something
that builds and it's something again that they get to experience now at least they get to know that it's not
going to kill them and they get to kind of learn how to handle it and hopefully when they're back here
maybe next year maybe the year after that this team is going to be a contender and uh especially if my
kison continues to push the right buttons they might be even even more of a threat next year who knows
Yeah, I am looking forward to when the Diamondbacks come to Coors Field.
Rocky's Diamondbacks will play each other on opening day next year here at Chase.
So that's pretty great that immediately after this run, they get to open up on an opening day rather than that home opener business a week later.
Typically like the Rockies end up doing.
But that'll be a madhouse.
Obviously, opening day is.
So I'm legitimately marking my calendar for April 8th for when the Diamondbacks come to Coors Field.
you know, as someone who, you know, has to stay a little bit, you know, unbiased and needs to be neutral
and kind of see things from the 10,000 foot view and maybe roots for stories rather than people,
you still root for people.
And I will very much be looking forward when the camera shut off after the pregame scrum in that first game,
when the Diamondbacks come to course field, we're just saying, hey, Tori, nice to meet you.
You don't really know who I am.
You know my friends.
You know, Derek, you know Jesse.
Maybe Jess will be with me there.
Who knows?
And I'll say, you know, it was a real pleasure watching you, you know, all throughout the month of October, you know, just doing such an amazing job.
Not only as a manager of a baseball team, but a manager of a clubhouse with such a diverse population of young and old, of various ethnicities and languages that are spoken in that clubhouse.
No kidding.
It's, it was just a pleasure to watch.
And so for me and have my first postseason kind of covering things really as in depth as this was.
for me, that's one of the highlights.
In addition to Haldopodomo.
Let's take a look back.
Sean Mayfield says, ha, ha, ha, they celebrated on your field.
Damn, yeah, that's usually how opposing, you know, like a way team's winning a championship
their work.
They celebrate on your field.
But did they get in the pool?
I just want to know if they got in the pool.
No, don't tell them.
We don't want to know.
No, I do want to know.
They had security still guarding it.
Jake.
Jake.
Whoa.
That a guy.
No, boy, Jake.
I told you.
Everything we said about you blaming you for being here.
That a boy, Jake.
They got Jake Curity out there.
Jake Curity, the Jake Guard.
All right.
Well, let's, let's, there were some, I think one that you put back up I wanted to see.
So scroll back up there, Dan.
There was a couple.
There's so many good ones.
There's so many.
Joe Mom, by the way, thank you.
Rangers fans.
It just came by to say good series.
It was much closer than what the numbers say, good game.
Appreciate that.
Love the opposing fans that come by.
again and if you want to talk trash
we appreciate that too but just bring your best game
don't just come say ha ha ha ha they celebrate on your field damn
Maria says guys oh Maria by the way our favorite Dodgers fan
sorry Mo he says guys the D-Backs made big boy statements
this year against the craziest biggest fan bases
and there's so much here to work with for years to come
don't cry because it's over smile because it happened Maria
we appreciate you Maria and also way better than Mo because Mo never showed back up
he didn't he never showed his coward face again in this shot
about the Dodgers losing, let's say.
Maria is a G.
Maria's a real one. She is an absolute
real one. Marie G. It's Maria G earns
the G for sure. We also have
Tori who feels similar about
saying this team. We'll come back and
be better next year and this is what he had to say.
Yeah.
You know, there were people that were sitting in the dugout
that didn't play that
saw a different level, different brand of baseball,
some injured players, some younger players.
And, you know, I'm just reminded of where we're
trying to get to every single day. It's what motivates me when I get up. Like where does this
journey take, this organization take me every single day? And where does it end? I wanted to end
at the very tip top of that mountain and we got really close and I think we tasted it. So I know this
team will be hungry and I know it's going to take a little time first to absorb, but I think
you're going to see a very, a very passionate, hungry baseball team walk into the salt river
feel next year and be ready to go. And you get a certain understanding, get a certain feeling
about what it's like, what it's like, what it tastes like, and smells like, you come to the
ballpark, it's just a little different atmosphere when you're playing in a World Series.
But it took so much to get there. And I think the guys learned what that, what that passage is like.
It just takes a little bit of time to figure it out. And that's what amaze me about this group.
We had guys that had no idea what they were doing and they wound up in the World Series.
Now that you know, we'll be able to peek around each corner and make sure that you
that you're ready to go.
I'm reminded of a couple of things
that you just don't quite understand the sacrifice
and the commitment that shows up every single day.
Once you get there and once you get that feeling,
it's what drives you and motivates you through those lean days
of the middle of the season, the dog days.
That's what helps you fight.
This group is grown up and there is a certain type
of glue that's gonna hold it together now,
and that's called something.
something about that's it's called you know being in the world series but not winning a world
championship in a i love that can we send torrey up the mountain oh is that getting in the
feels a little bit look don't forget toy levello has well i'm not going to say he had an opportunity
but he's uh he's got some ties to the boston red sox and mike hazen's got some ties to the boston
redsox and mike hayson ain't going anywhere he ain't going anywhere he wants to be here in the valley
because there's something special happening.
And it has already happened before they thought it would happen.
And Toro Lavello absolutely wants to be a part of that happening here in the valley and be a part of the next wagon.
Because I frankly don't think it's going to stop.
It might have a pit stop next year.
It's the same wagon.
Yeah.
It's not a different wagon.
No, they're souping it up.
We just soup it up.
It might take a pit stop next year.
Fucking Dayton's.
But it's going.
Put some hydraulics on it.
It's going to be incredible.
Well, also we got a piece of Yoshi said,
Also, what do I do with the snakes live sign?
Frame it?
I don't know.
Put it in a shadow box.
If you have one, I mean, that's pretty great.
Yeah, that's pretty great.
I mean, you could also print one up if you don't have one because I'm sure that
wouldn't be too difficult.
Would it be branded, though, with the Diamondbacks on it?
I can make that happen.
Okay.
Well, now they're not worth anything.
Cogs, go to sleep, cogs.
He says, hey, PHNX fan, wanted to say thank you for an awesome season.
This series has me sad, but I can't wait for the next one with you all.
I love you all.
We love you, Cog.
Thanks, guys.
We still want to know what you do for a,
living that allowed you to afford tickets to all three fucking world series games cogs
because that still baffles me uh we got to talk to karen about that for sure uh charles
woodall pike so glad that i got to experience this incredible run with a lot of great
phnx famine fellow diehards we love you charles woodall pike uh cwp was in our uh here in our building
quite a bit.
And he said, hopefully we'll get to do this again soon.
Very soon.
Very soon.
The off season isn't quite fact short.
My words are mixing up now.
It's in fact quite short.
Did that?
Yeah.
You took the long way to get there.
It takes a long way sometimes to get there.
February will be here before we know it.
We'll be back.
Oh, I don't say that.
Kind of don't say that.
I can't wait for baseball to come back, no doubt.
But I also want to enjoy the moments that are in between.
You don't get to because it's going to be fucking here before.
you know it. Patrick, it is November.
We get November, December, January
off. That's it. Then you got to come back.
Well, I don't get the first part of December off to winter meetings.
So that's what you is. You got to go do that too.
And you got to talk about all the great moments
from this postseason for the next month.
That's pretty great. I guess I do.
Tony, we thank you again for your super chat.
Love you, big guy. He says,
I owe a beer for your beer bat, Mr.
Mayor and you too, Damon.
Thank you for leaving you out.
Appreciate you, Tony.
David. Tony's a real one.
Tony are God.
Runner up says, thank you, Dback.
That's all we should be saying right now.
See, and that's kind of how I feel like, I mean, God damn it.
Like, yeah, you're not, you're not thrilled.
It didn't go your way.
And I understand.
And you can definitely be angry about it.
And I'd understand that too.
But God damn it.
Like, there's just something to be said about this run that we had.
And it would, what a ride.
It really was, you know.
But we thank you to Sports Pro 2.0, one of our Rangers trolls who we appreciate being here.
He said the snake died striking.
Anyway, thank you for the kindness chat.
Be proud of this team.
And hey, this comes from a fan of the best team in the world.
He gets to say that now.
He gets to say that.
It sucks, but he gets to say that.
He is the fan of the best team in the world.
Our guy Nick Sutfin, the artist extraordinaire.
Love him.
Says, nice to have a place with people feeling the same kind of way.
Let's go 2024 and beyond.
We love you, Nick.
Thank you so much for your wonderful cards that you send us, all your artwork.
He's amazing.
You've been incredible.
But of course, we got some more super chats to get to before we get to those.
We have a very special person to get to.
Of course, it's everybody's favorite vice mayor, everybody's favorite thunderstick.
It's the one and only Jesse Friedman coming to us live from Chase Field.
Jesse, I've had some time to get over it.
So you're going to give me, you're going to get a little bit more rational me than I was earlier.
But what a run for this Arizona Diamondbacks team.
and Tori got me choked up there in his press conference.
I legit cried real tears after seeing that man
apologized for not being able to get the job done.
There's no apologies needed.
This team deserves to hold their heads high
for what they were able to accomplish this postseason.
Well, what you might not have seen in that press conference
is that Tori Lavello walked in and was about to take a seat at the podium.
And then it appeared that his family members came in,
the back of the room.
And as he was sitting down, he just couldn't.
You know, he started, he just sort of had this moment where he just stopped and the room
was completely silent and you could maybe see a tier or two.
And he just walked off the podium and went and hugged every single one of his family members
who was there in the room with him.
Took his time, you know, maybe a minute or two later, composed himself and then went back
up onto the podium.
and talk to all of us, all of us media folk after a rough game here for the Diamondbacks.
So yeah, I mean, an unbelievable run for the Diamondbacks, right?
I think there's maybe a few minutes if you're a fan of this baseball team where you want to,
you know, think through all the things that didn't go right in this game, you know,
look back at Gabby Moreno, bunting with first and second and nobody out when the debacks
couldn't get a, you know, couldn't get a hit with runners in scoring position to save their lives
and all of the missed opportunities in this game and their way.
were many. But at the end of the day, the Arizona Diamondbacks just, we're in the World Series,
right? Like, the Arizona Diamondbacks were in the World Series.
It's a little giggle. That's it, right? It's so crazy that they were in the World Series. Like,
man, I just can't believe it. As a writer, I mean, I've been saying this for a while now. I mean,
I sort of ran out of words to describe what the Diamondbacks were doing about two weeks ago, right?
Like at a certain point, they just kept winning and winning.
And right, the Brewer series is one thing.
And then it was the Dodgers series where they swept that team and had some
incredible moments, made some incredible memories here at Chase Fields, right?
The four straight home runs, the Alec Thomas Homer that sparked that comeback.
We're going to have a lot of time here over the next few months to think back on all of
the incredible moments that happened over the course of this postseason.
But yeah, you know, even though this didn't end the way that the Diamondbacks hoped and,
you know, I think a four to one loss in the series doesn't really do justice to how well they played at times.
There were a lot of ugly moments. There were a lot of missed opportunities.
But I think they held their own against the Texas strangers a whole lot better than four to one would lead you to believe.
And at the end of the day, it was really an incredible ride here for them over the last month.
You know, before the game obviously got out of hand a little bit, there was some amazing defense in this game.
This was, I'm not going to go as far as saying.
and it was like a game seven type defense of like, man, both teams are playing for their lives.
I think both teams definitely wanted to win today.
We know the Diamondbacks did.
We know how much of the Diamondbacks wanted to win against the Dodgers in game three.
Just shut the door on them and end it quickly.
But there are so many great plays from Evan Carter sliding grab on Evan Longoria,
you know, a 21-year-old stealing a hit from a 38-year-old.
Haldipodododododom diving to his right on a really nice play.
Gurriel in the gap when it looked like
well if Alex Thomas can't get to that one
that's dropping in for extra bases and it
wasn't that extended Zach Allen's perfect
game. Evan Longoria's barehanded
play in the eighth inning
off of Tavares, a speedy guy and able
to get him to start that
inning. And it's kind of unfortunate
because those things aren't really going to be
remembered in this series
at all and certainly not in this game.
Yeah,
the Rangers in this series, I mean
the defense that they played was
unbelievable. They're, they're one of the few teams this season that I've ever seen decisively
outperform the Diamondbacks on defense. That's just something that we're not really used to
seeing. And it just, I mean, not only did they never make mistakes and the Diamondbacks made a
couple, but I mean, as you just detailed, there were just a lot of really impressive plays
for them on, on that side of the ball. And, and yeah, the debacks made, made some good defensive
plays in this game as well and throughout the series. But yeah, I mean, the Texas Rangers,
I mean, what an incredible run this was for them as well.
You know, I mean, their season went to the very last day,
just as the Diamondback season did.
I mean, there was a very real chance that the Texas Rangers wouldn't make the playoffs.
They, you know, were really, really good for the first three or four months of the season,
kind of fell off the table a little bit, found their way back,
were able to, you know, punch that ticket into the postseason.
And they never lost a road game all postseason long, which is outrageous.
I mean, what an incredible accomplishment for them.
And, you know, there's still celebrations here going on behind me as the Texas Rangers, you know,
finally win that, that first world series in franchise history.
What does it look like behind you, by the way, because we heard there's security keeping people out of the pool.
Is that a fact?
Can you confirm that for us?
Yeah, I can.
Yeah, I tweeted a picture.
Yeah, it's not horses this time around.
I know we've seen the Diamondbacks go that route in the past.
But, yeah, the Chasefield swimming pool is very clearly blocked right now by a, you know,
probably 15, 20 security guards
who were just kind of standing out there
in that area. Tell me, tell me Jake is still
out there, Jesse. Tell me Jake is still
out there in his lifeguard uniform. I want to
know that. He's not
out like on the field
protecting it. Maybe he's going for a swim.
I wasn't quite, I wasn't quite
able to see that. I mean, maybe he's like under
the water like, you know, doing it with swimming his
laps or whatever. But yeah,
no talking Jake that I can see.
Yeah. Some of those security guards need to cross their
arms. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, for sure.
his hand like in an L position.
You have to be in big boy status.
You do need to look a little bit tougher.
I think they probably won't.
And also, too, it's the Rangers.
So there's not that same connection with the pool of like,
we don't need to disrespect these guys.
Like we're already kind of celebrating on their,
on their field.
So I think it's probably not going to happen,
which I'm,
I'm happy to see.
If you leave the pull open,
we're going to go swimming it.
But if you put the tarp on it.
Yeah, put the tarp on it.
There's got to be a cover, right?
Yeah.
That's the note.
Got to put something over it.
But.
Somebody brought it up.
I think it was Charles Woodall Pike, potentially, Jesse.
But we wanted to give a shout out to you because this has been an insane postseason run for the Diamondbacks.
But this has been an insane postseason run also for Jesse Friedman.
You've been all over the country.
You were in Milwaukee.
You were in Philadelphia.
You were in Los Angeles.
And you were in Texas.
And I just wanted to thank you for all of your hard work.
I know how many times you had to catch red eyes and fly on frontier and leave.
bed in the middle of the night and wear all of your clothes on you at the same time in order to
save costs on luggage and the times we sent you on a greyout bus all of that uh you've been a
consummate professional and we appreciate all of your hard work uh i just wanted to tip my cap to you sir
but obviously now with what uh is happening we know that the arizona diamondbacks are most
likely going to have some post uh kind of postseason interviews perhaps tomorrow when they're
clearing out their lockers is that what the schedule is dictating
Yeah, I don't know if it'll be tomorrow. I think it might, it might give it a day and then do that on Friday.
That's what that would do.
We should, we should have exit interviews and, you know, a big, big, big long conversation with Tori Lavello,
a big long conversation with Mike Hazen.
And, you know, I mean, this is weird as a member of the media because we're, you know,
the Diamondback season ends usually you've got like a couple months before we get into the meat of the off season.
We don't have all that much time.
No, we do not.
We do not.
meetings. GM meetings are about a week away. The winter meetings are only about a month away at this
point. We're going to have a fun, a fun offseason of coverage here talking about a team that went a
whole lot farther this October than anyone, anyone expected. Dynnevaks already made a transaction.
So like the offseason is technically even already started before the final out was made.
Jesse, we saw Tori saying that basically putting it on himself saying like, hey, I, I don't remember his exact words,
but, you know, he looked like maybe I failed the team. I failed the city.
in some capacity.
And honestly, I don't really think there was any moves.
I thought that he could have made differently in this series.
I mean, as you said, you know, a number three hitter laying down a bunt, but look,
that one run would have been incredibly valuable had that worked and Moreno had been slumping.
So sure, it's a discussion point, but I wouldn't necessarily say it's definitively wrong.
I really just saw this as a series where the Rangers just played better.
And there was really nothing different.
I think that Toro Lavello could have done.
differently to win for his team. He took him as far as they could go, I think ultimately,
unless there was something that you saw like, you know what, maybe he did get outclassed a little
bit, but again, it's by a Hall of Fame manager that now has four rings in his arsenal.
Yeah, I mean, I think there are things that you could maybe point at. I think the biggest one in
the series is the Diamondbacks pitching to Corey Seeger maybe a little bit more than they should have.
Yeah. You know, we talk with Tori a little bit. I haven't gotten a chance to talk about this on our show.
Tori before the game today talked about, you know, Corey Seeger yesterday and pitching to him in that spot.
And, you know, I asked him, what would you have done differently in retrospect? He clearly was not happy with the way that things went.
And he talked about leaving Miguel Castro in that spot and, you know, putting Corey Seeger on first base and having Miguel Castro, you know, go after the next hitter, it was right-handed.
But, yeah, I mean, at the end of the day, the Diamondbacks didn't lose this.
series because of Tori Lavello. I think that's a pretty, pretty outrageous take. And I also want to
point out that Gabby Moreno's bunt in this game was actually his own doing. It was not a, it was
not a called play by Tori Lavello. So yeah, that was an interesting thing that came out postgame.
If you're mad at Tori Lavello for that, you're not, you're mad at the wrong guy. Gabby
Moreno does have a propensity for grounding in double plays. That's something we've talked about a lot.
He hits a lot of ground balls and he really has grounded in.
do a lot of double plays for as great as he's been offensively overall.
So yeah, I mean, you know, maybe that was his thinking there, just trying to stay out of that.
And Anthony Evaldi was dialing up a lot of balls on the ground, especially at that point in the game.
But, yeah, again, I mean, the Diamondbacks just, he just couldn't get a hit with runners in
scoring position.
And when you go 0 for 9, it's pretty tough to win a baseball game.
Had that paid off, the Diamondbacks would have went up 1-0 in the third inning, right?
If somebody behind him can get a hit.
And then you're looking at that like, wow.
Look at Gabby Moreno, only 23 years old, clearly a future manager.
Yeah. It didn't work out, though.
Clearly.
By the way, all appearances by Jesse Friedman are brought to us by our friends at Desert Financial Credit Union.
I don't know if you know that.
It's Arizona's number one credit union named by four.
We have a sponsor.
We have a sponsor for my appearance.
Just for you.
Wow.
Right over your little square.
Look up to your right.
Look up to your right.
Oh, yeah.
I see it.
I see it.
I see it.
I know there's a lot of ways we could pick this game apart,
but at this point,
it doesn't feel like there's a point that, you know,
the seasons are wrap.
And I know some people weren't thrilled with us trying to accentuate the positives
and move on, you know, to the plus.
But, Jesse, it's just still hard,
considering you and I started doing this exact show at the end of one of the worst seasons
in Diamondbacks history.
And that was just two seasons ago.
And here we are talking about the diamond.
coming backs being just, you know, a few wins away from winning the world series.
I have a hard time being upset about that, even though I'm not thrilled with the way tonight went.
I just have a hard time being upset about this because this entire, you know, month of October,
now this not one bad day in November, was pretty magical.
Yeah, I mean, magical is the word, right?
Like, I don't, I don't know how else to describe what we saw over the last three or four weeks.
like what the heck.
They ruined so many of my vacations
and I planned in October and all sorts of stuff
I thought I was going to be able to do.
All of it got canceled.
Almost all of it.
I had to drive to Las Vegas at 3 o'clock in the morning
thanks to this team.
And they made me happy to do it.
I was thrilled.
They just meet the Dodgers.
I was bebopping on my way to Las Vegas
in the middle of the night.
So yeah,
no, this has been an incredible month
and we absolutely didn't expect them to go on this run.
And I think that's the thing is,
I hope that fans that are still upset.
I hope fans that are, you know, angry about, you know, the way that things went,
can in a few days, you know, or maybe even a few weeks kind of see that this was just an
incredibly unlikely thing that this team did.
And the exciting part about it is that the guys that got us here, the guys that did this,
they're not going anywhere.
You know, these guys are going to be a part of this team next year and this organization
has a chance to add some fresh faces that might help get them, you know, over, over that hump.
of making it this close, but not getting all the way.
You could just tell in the clubhouse after this game that, you know,
players were obviously very, very disappointed with the outcome.
I went and, you know, was in the press interview room with Torrey before heading to the
clubhouse.
So I wasn't there, you know, right when the media was first allowed in.
But you could tell there was kind of a sense of turning the page that, like, you wouldn't,
you wouldn't see or at least I wouldn't have expected on the last day of the season,
you know, if the Diamondbacks hadn't made the play.
Offs, right? There's just, there's a sense. Like, these guys know that for as disappointing as this is, and I, and they are very disappointed for as disappointing as this is. I mean, this, this team really had an absolutely incredible season that's going to be remembered for a long time, right? I know that, you know, you didn't hang, you didn't hang the banner that that you wanted to hang when all was set and done here. But the 2023 Diamondbacks are a team that that's going to be talked about for for probably decades, right? There are.
There have not been very many, you know, major sports teams here in Arizona that have even made it to a championship in their respective league, right?
And the Diamondbacks out of all of them might be the most unlikely of them all, right?
The most remarkable story of them all in some ways, just given, you know, the 84 wins, the negative run differential, the very young, relatively inexperienced team compared to a lot of other postseason teams.
It's really been, you know, just a remarkable run.
And you can, like I said earlier, you can, you can just kind of sense that that these guys deep down.
I think they recognize that.
And it's going to take them a little bit of time to maybe get there completely.
But, you know, I think, you know, come next spring, they're going to look back on this and probably have some pretty fun memories of what the diamond backs have been able to accomplish here.
Well, I hate to break it to you, kiddo.
But you got to come back here and do the show with me again.
Patrick's wife has been asking about him constantly.
So we got a show tomorrow at some point.
So I will see you back here in studio.
No more of your little fucking being out there being beat reporter guy.
You got to come deal with me once again.
So I look forward to seeing you here back at PHNXHQ.
And once again,
thank you for all of your work this postseason.
Well, thank you guys.
That's going to be weird, man.
I can't even remember what the studio looks like.
I'm just suggesting.
I haven't been there.
There's no more chocolate milk.
I'm going to tell you now, there's no more chocolate milk.
I'm just ripping that band-aid off right now.
We'll send Saul to Costco maybe before you get in.
We'll see you tomorrow, buddy.
All right.
Sounds good.
See you guys.
All right.

That's always,
that's still not.
There's a little bo-boom at there at the end.
We do have some super chat.
So shout out to all of you guys for your super chats.
We love all of you guys.
Our pal, Doug.
I don't know how to say the rest of that name.
so I'm just call him Doug.
Doug.
That says too many days without pitching from game to d.
It is not good for a closer.
Happened to Trevor Hoffman in 98.
DeBax fan for life.
Love your show.
We appreciate you, Doug.
And yeah,
that could be the case with Seawald because he did not have a good world series at all.
And I know,
I know people don't want to hear from Paul Seawald,
but we do have video of Paul Seawald.
So let's go ahead and roll that beautiful bean footage.
I said,
you know,
if you have one bad month,
six bad weeks,
you still are probably going to play in October.
got that chance whether we people
said we backed in or we didn't we got in here
but our as you could see our peak is as good
as anybody's peak and that's how the diamond backs
were leading National League on July 1st
like you could tell they had everything they needed
before I got here and then we
really started to play our best in the most important month
and that's where three wins short of the World Series
is because our good is really
really good. What's wild about the
thing you're pointing out there Doug
about Trevor Hoffman and 98 with the
Padres is that that was a team
that was helmed by Bruce
Bochi. The first time he won a league championship series. He's been around forever and the
man has just been around. He is. He's got four rings now and that's that's tied for third
most as a manager and he's actually the first to take three different teams to the World Series.
He joins Joe Torrey and Sparky Anderson as managers who've won it in both the American
League and National League now. It is absolutely no surprise that Paul Seawald is still exuding
big dead energy even after losing a World Series. Sure. He did was that not the face of a man that
was about to take me out for cheeseburgers and make everything better.
I feel like it was.
It's going to be all right, pal.
We also have our surly grandpa as well, Brent Strom here, to talk about why this stings.
And of course, Brent, when you talk about experience, there's nobody that has more experience than Brent Strom.
Well, the problem I'm facing is this is a third time I've been on the losing end of a World Series on my home turf.
That's getting to be a pain in the ass.
I don't enjoy.
I don't enjoy seeing the other team celebrate.
let alone on our turf.
I mean, I did it with the Nationals.
I did it with the Braves, and now the Diamondbacks, you know,
so I'm starting to feel like the Buffalo Bills a little bit, you know what I mean?
So it's, it's, there's nothing like the thrill of winning a World Series.
You know, it's everybody loves to get to the World Series.
It's almost like, okay, we're champions of the National League and everything's gravy.
But when you're this close, you kind of want to put a finishing touch on it.
Strong.
He might be Thunderbolt.
That might be Thunderbolt 47.
I have no way to confirm her to not.
but I knew he was going to come in hot.
And it does sting.
He does sting.
And that's a man that knows about watching other teams celebrate on his home turf.
And that's not fun.
But hopefully the Diamondbacks get a chance to rectify that here in the future.
And I'm just, again, so proud.
And I think you all should be so proud of what this team has accomplished.
I'm also proud of this little community that we built here with PH&X Diamondbacks.
You guys help make this the most fun playoff run I've ever.
experienced in my whole entire life.
I know this man has very much enjoyed it.
I don't know if he's allowed based on his status as a writer to express feelings of joy.
I can say that I loved watching an extra month of baseball and it having additional meaning
because I wasn't just watching it as a fan, right?
I'm allowed to do that.
But instead, I was watching it with a critical eye and enjoying, you know, performances on both
sides of the ball.
But knowing that I had to talk about the Donovacs, obviously a little bit more
invested in that and watching that with my critical eye.
And it's been a pleasure.
I love doing it.
It was one of the best months of my life, to be honest.
We loved having you.
Don't tell my wife.
He absolutely did not need to be here.
He has a whole other show and beat and thing he does.
And this man came out.
Stayed with Saul,
stayed with Jesse.
This has been like terrible people to stay with.
These people are not good roommates at all.
I get detest to that.
So, of course, he's been put through a lot,
just like Jesse.
I appreciate the hard work ever, everybody.
And I do want to also acknowledge another person.
And that's one and only Damon dog.
If we're going to be acknowledging people, this man, this man doesn't, doesn't stop.
No.
He doesn't stop.
He comes to me.
He's like, I'm producing cardinals.
Then I'm going to do bets.
Then I'm producing you.
Then we're going to watch some baseball.
Then I'm going to produce you again.
And he's been here since God knows how early.
Grinding.
Just absolutely grinding.
This crew never stops.
And I can't thank all of you guys enough because you guys.
have made this show fun but most importantly you guys in the chat you we wouldn't have a show without
you we wouldn't have a show without our diards we wouldn't have the fun that we've had this post
amazing man the skiing and the and the yoffs and the wagons and all of that was all made more fun by
you guys so of course we got some more super chats that I need to get to and thank you Derek by the way
I appreciate you pal uh Ernesto uh we say happy I found my way to the show halfway through the season
thanks to everyone involved
for giving us a space to share, cry, and cheer.
And Ernesto, we're so glad you found us.
So thank you so much for being here.
Thanks, buddy.
Of course, our guy, Nicholas said,
thank you so much for being amazing to everyone,
Derek and Jesse and Damon and Sean at the takeovers,
Tendi gang wagon season.
This was all incredible.
I can't thank you enough for this community.
And we are going nowhere.
We built this community.
This is our community here.
We're going to take some time off,
go spend some time with our families, maybe.
we're still going to get together.
I mean,
when's fall ball,
All-Star game?
We're going to go out there
and catch some home run balls.
We're not done yet.
But not really take time off
because you're back tomorrow.
It's baseball Nirvana here in Arizona.
The baseball never stops here.
To BMC.
Thank you.
We met you today.
He said, nice to meet you guys today.
Derek, thanks for making this team.
Even more fun to watch all year.
Most entertaining season of DeBax baseball yet.
Tough end,
but we swept LA and our NL champions.
We thank you.
That's right.
You made you big time fucking Jake.
You made me feel like a stud today.
This man comes up to us while we're standing there with talking Jake from John Boy,
one of the most recognizable and known.
We were waiting.
We were waiting for someone to jump in.
We were waiting for someone to recognize him and want a picture.
And here you come up introducing yourself with your lovely girlfriend.
And the two of you absolutely were like, Jake, who?
We're here because of the PHNX Diamondbacks fans.
I hope that's a moment Jake never forgets for his entire life for that.
We love you.
We love Jake.
Thank you so much.
Peyton says from a White Sox fan
Love watching the D-backs this postseason
Kicking the Phillies asses will always have a special
place in my heart. Go snakes.
Let's go, Peyton. We appreciate you.
Arthur Shaw says it does hurt a lot.
That being said, thanks for helping this season
awesome. Thank you, Arthur. We appreciate you.
It really does make the future exciting
after watching their run to the World Series.
Exactly. Let's go, man. I mean,
this was a team that we were going to be excited about their future
anyway. Why is it that their
current achievement somehow
make it that you disbelieve they're going to
make it further. This is the start of a beautiful thing for this franchise.
Scurvy boy, thank you, says hats off to the Rangers.
Y'all were a class act. Absolutely. I couldn't agree more with that.
It was hard to hate that team. It really was.
Phoenix Rising going for the USL championship.
Says Kevin Haskey, they're, they're there.
They are the provider of the yoffs entertainment now for us.
Hopefully they can go on and do big things.
Michael Dunson shattered, but a great year.
Similar feeling for sure, Michael.
A huge thank you to Greg Schulte.
the voice my winter since 2011,
keeping me connected from a literal half a world away.
Cheers.
Michael,
we thank you for listening and for being here.
Shout out to you,
of course.
And shout out to Greg Schulte.
We will absolutely miss the governor.
And I just got to say,
sucks we didn't get the job done for him.
It sucks.
We didn't get the job done for him.
I will say, though,
that one of the greatest moments of my life
was having someone come up to me and Greg Schulte
and say,
oh, it's the mayor and the governor.
I will never forget that.
moment as long as I live.
I will not because it was just so incredibly cool.
And it didn't make any, didn't deserve anything.
By the way, my friend, my jackass friend Brian Gregston is here watching us do the show right
now.
And he is the person responsible for calling me the mayor.
So if you guys want to know who to blame for pumping my head full of air, it's that man
over there sitting here watching us.
Michaela Decker.
She says game one just killed us.
It absolutely did.
But it's nice to know that no way we win with Paul this season.
he looked trash.
We went with Paul this series.
I mean, Paul Seawald wasn't the best, but they also wouldn't be here with Paul Seawald.
So let's not forget that.
The bullpen solidified with Seawald, even though he didn't have his best performances here,
that man still are big dad energy.
He's coming back next year too.
He is coming back next year.
While we would not be here without him, that is very true.
To say he wasn't the best is a massive underscary.
I agree.
However, only.
one of those really mattered. Really tonight
didn't matter. Let's be honest. I mean,
he could have given up 20 runs. He didn't
take the loss in any of these games. Again,
we understand what was at stake in
both of those spots, but he, blown saving
game one, but not a loss.
It may have affected this game.
It may have. No, sure. After you
put four on the board there,
he's not having to. He's not. He's not
motions and the bottom of the nights to get through it.
If it's one, nothing in the bottom of the nine, that is right
for a comeback. That's true. Carlos,
our guy says we should be proud of
underdogs going the distance like Rocky, like Rocky going the distance.
Doesn't mean you get the win, but you could still be proud.
And nobody remembers he didn't get the win, right?
Rangers are definitely Apollo Creed.
Absolutely.
He has a lot of technology.
He was making a lot of money.
James Brown came out and sang his song.
Rangers have Creed now.
A lot of comparisons between the Texas Rangers and Apollo.
We have sexy red.
Let's never forget that.
B. Comcci clearly says one starting pitcher to a third basement.
And guys, what else?
I want to thank P.NX for this journey.
see you all next love.
Stay blessed.
Thank you.
Be calm.
See clearly.
We appreciate you.
Kevin Askey.
Tori,
I want you to feel this way
so you never make the same mistake.
Yeah, that's like, again, that's a good dad.
That's a good dad teaching moment, right?
That's future casting, knowing full well.
We will be back in a spot like this.
And if you need any motivation after losing a month of your off season,
get over it quickly because you could be on that other side as soon as next year.
Yeah.
That's great.
If you guys haven't grabbed a diehard membership yet,
make sure to do so right now.
I'm not going to plug any of the shirts.
You guys know the shirts.
They're so good.
I want to plug the shirts,
but it just doesn't seem right to plug the shirts right now
because we're not in that kind of mental headspace.
But of course, if you get a Diard membership,
you can get a shirt, P.HNX Locker has lots of shirts,
and you can maybe grab one.
Go get that Logan Cooley shirt.
I don't know.
I don't know why I'm doing that now at this point.
I'm trying to do something.
He scored a big goal of night.

Cole said, sad to have it end like this at home,
but happy we are here in the first place.
Hashtag wagon.
Also, what do we need to get better so we can win next time?
A big bat.
A third basement.
A third baseman.
Sure.
Yeah, with a fat bat.
A really fat bat.
A really fat bat.
You might already have that guy.
You might already have that guy.

7-1 forces I hate to. I say I've been a bandwagon D-backs fan because I'm a diehard Cardinals fan,
but this was my all-time favorite team to cheer for. I smile knowing I went to the World Series.
My dad, let's go. This was a fun team. I met a dad and a kid, by the way, in the outfield
when I was over there in left field catching balls. And we had this very deep conversation
about the connection between our kids and sports and our parents and my dad who passed away
at this time last year. I know he's just smiling down on this and how much fun we had. And
We lost so many people this year.
I mean, you know, that's why it felt like this team was just kind of being watched over a little bit, you know.
We do have an update, by the way.
Chris, one of our favorite, our den mom, Chris, someone turned in her jersey, the very special jersey to her that her mom, Marlene, gave to her.
And we miss you, Marlene.
And I'm so glad that Chris was able to get that jersey that meant so much to her back.
That's huge.
And, of course, that's great karma for next year.
So hopefully we can build our.
that. Kevin Haskey says it's sane. I've seen kidcaster Jesse, the one and only great kid
caster Jesse, uh, the legend. Uh, X, thank you for your super chat. And Caesar says,
Kendrick time for Ishbia moves. Windows still open. You're not wrong about that. We love
Ishbia and we, uh, hopefully we get Ken Kendrick feeling the love for this team and knowing
that they can hopefully spend a little money, uh, you know, and definitely get the job done.
Maybe next year. Who knows? But they have lots of time. Uh, they have.
have lots of time to get it done with these youngsters that they have on a team.
Maybe not so much time left with Zach Gallen and Merrill Kelly.
But that, of course, is a topic for another day.
We appreciate you guys, of course, for being here all season long.
We appreciate you guys for rooting for this wagon.
And, of course, for being fans with Ph. and X being part of our family.
