Welcome to Positive Successor Episode 282.
Continue on with the Bible. Let's get into it.
David and Ziba, 16.
When David had gone a short distance beyond the summit,
there was Sibba.
The steward of Mepfi Boseth
waiting to meet him.
He had a string of donkeys saddled
and loaded with 200 loaves of bread
and 100 cakes of raisins,
100 cakes of figs, and the skin of wine.
The king asked Ziba,
why have you brought these?
Zuba answered,
The donkeys are for the king's household.
to ride on. The bread and fruit are for the men to eat, and the wine is to fresh, refresh those who become
exhausted in the desert. The king then asks, where is your master's grandson? Ziba said to him,
he is staying in Jerusalem because he thinks today the house of Israel will give me back my
grandfather's kingdom. Then the king said to Ziba, all that belonged to Mephi Bosheth is now yours.
I humbly bow, Zibba said. May I find favor in your eyes, my lord the king.
Shimi curses David. Has King David approached Bahuram, a man from the same clan,
as Saul's family came out from there.
His name was Shim Shime, son of Gura.
And he cursed as he came out.
He pouted David and all the kings of officials with stones.
Though all the troops and the special guard were on David's right and left.
Has he cursed?
Shemmy said,
Get out, get out, you man of blood.
You scound.
scoundrel
scoundrel
the Lord has repaid you
for all the blood
you shed in the household
in whose place
you have reigned
the Lord has handed
the kingdom over
to your son
Absalom
you have come to ruin
because you're a man of blood
then
Abashai son of
Zariah said to the king
why should this dead dog
curse my Lord the king?
let me go over and cut off his head.
But the king said,
What are you and I have in common, you sons of Zariah,
Zeruia?
If he is cursing because the Lord said to him,
Cursed David, who can ask,
why do you do this?
David then said to Abashai and all his officials,
My son, who is of my flesh,
is trying to make,
trying to take my life.
How much more than this Benjaminite?
Leave him alone.
Let him curse for the Lord has told him to.
It may be that the Lord will see my distress
and repay me with good for the cursing I am receiving today.
So David and his men continued along.
The road with Shemay was going along the hillside opposite him.
Opposed it him.
Cursing as he went
And throwing stones at him
And showering him with dirt,
The king and all the people with him
arrived at their destination
exhausted, and there
he refreshed himself.
The advice of Hushai and
I hit Thoufell.
Meanwhile, Absalom and all
the men of Israel came to Jerusalem
and a hit
Hothel
was with them. Then Hushai, the archite, David's friend, went to Absalom and said to him, long live the king. Long live the king. Absalom asked Hushai, is this the love you show your friend? Why didn't you go with your friend? Hushai said to Absalom, no, the one chosen by the Lord, by these people, and by all the men of Israel, his I will be, and I will remain with him.
him. Furthermore, whom should I serve? Should I not serve the son? Just as I served your father, so I will serve you?
Absalom said to Ahed Ophel, give us your advice. What should we do?
Ahith Ophel answered, lie with your father's concubines, whom he left to take care of the palace.
then all Israel will hear that you have made yourself a stench in your father's nostrils.
In the hands of everyone with you will be strengthened.
So they pitched a tent for Absalom on the roof,
and he lay with his father's concubines in the sight of all Israel.
Now in those days, that advice Ahithophil gave was like that,
of one who inquires of God.
That was how both David and Absalom
regarded all of Hithofel's advice.
17.
Ah, Hithafel said to Absalom,
I would choose 12,000 men and set out tonight in pursuit of David.
I would attack him while he is weary and weak.
I would strike him with terror,
and then all the people with him will,
I would strike down only the king and bring all the people back to you.
The death of the man you seek will mean the return of all.
All the people will be unharmed.
This plan seemed good to Absalom and to all the elders of Israel.
But Absalom said,
Summon also Hushai the Archite,
so we can hear what he has to say.
When Hushai came to him,
Absalom said
Ahithelphel
has given this advice
Should we do what he says
If not give us your opinion
Hachai replied to
Absalom
The advice Ahithofel
Has given is not good
This time
You know your father and his men
They are fighters
And as fierce as a wild bear
robbed over cubs
Besides your father is an
experienced fighter
He will not spend the night
with the troops. Even now, he is hidden in the cave or some other place. If he should attack your
troops first, whoever hears about it will say there has been a slaughter among the troops who follow
Absalom. Then even the bravest soldier whose heart is like the heart of a lion will melt with fear.
For all Israel knows that your father is a fighter and that those with,
them are brave, so I advise you.
Let all Israel from Dan to Bershaba, as numerous as the sand on the seashore, be gathered to you,
with you yourself, leading them into battle.
Then we shall attack him wherever he may be found, and we will fall on him as due,
settles on the ground.
Neither he nor any of his men will be left alive.
If he withdraws into a city, then all Israel will bring ropes to that city, and we will drag it down to the valley until not even a piece of it can be found.
Absalom and all the men of Israel said, the advice of Hachai, the archite is better than that of Ahithofil, for the Lord had determined to frustrate the good advice of Ahithofil in order to bring disaster on Absalom.
Hachai told Zadok and Abithar the priests, Ahithel Phel has advised Absalom and the elders of Israel to do such and such, but I have advised them to do so and so.
Now send a message immediately and tell David, do not spend the night at the fords in the desert.
Cross over without fail, or the king and all these people with them will be swallowed up.
Jonathan and Ahemez were staying at the inn, Raghu.
A servant girl was to go and inform them, and they were to go and tell King David,
for they could not risk being seen entering the city.
But a young man saw them and told Absalom.
So the two of them wept quickly and went to the house of a man in Behr.
He had a well in his courtyard, and they climbed down into it.
his wife took a covering and spread it out over the opening of the well and scattered grain over it no one knew anything about it
when absalom's men came to the woman at the house they asked where are ahemmas and jonathan the woman answered them
they crossed over the brook the men searched but found no one so they returned to jerusalem after the men had gone
gone. The two climbed out of the well and went to inform King David, then said to him,
sat out and crossed the river at once. Ahifah Phil has advised such and such against you.
So David and all the people with him sat out and crossed the Jordan. By daybreak, no one was left
who had not crossed to Jordan. When Ahithel Phil saw that his advice had not been followed,
He sowed his donkey and set out for his house in his hometown.
He put his house in order and then panged himself, so he died and was buried in his father's tomb.
David went to my hand name in Absalom crossed the Jordan with all the men of Israel.
So Absalom had appointed Amazah over the army in the place of Joab.
Amazah was the son of a man named Jebel.
an Israelite who had married Gabriel, Abigail, the daughter of Nahash and the sister of Zerulia,
Abigail is the daughter of Nahash and sister of Zirulia, the mother of Jalab.
The Israelites and Absalom camped in the land of Galid.
When David came to Mahanam, she'll be son of Nahash from Mabah,
of the Ammonites in Mecca, son of Emil, Amio from Lo de Bar, and Barzilla Zile,
the Ghalidite from Roelium, brought bedding and bowls and articles of pottery.
They also brought wheat and barley, flour and rosa grain, beans and lentils, honey and curds,
sheep and cheese from cows milk for David and his people to eat for they said the people have come
become hungry and tired and thirsty in the desert so that's where we're going to stop we'll pick
back up with absalom's death 18 let's live it to samuel 16 5 through 14 when others call you names have you ever heard of or
recited this little poem. Six and stones will break my bones, but names will never hurt me.
But being called names does hurt, doesn't it? What do you do when someone calls you names?
In this Bible story, a man named Shemai, called King David, bad names, even threw stones at him.
Read to Samuel 16, 5 through 14. It's either these statements are true or false.
One, David told his soldiers to kill Shemai.
Two, David told his friends to pay no attention to Shemai.
Three, David said that God would hear and repay David would good for all the bad things Shemai had said.
Four, David called Shemai names and chased him away.
Now you now decide what you will do next time someone calls your names.
