Welcome to positivity successor episode 318. Today's topic we'll be talking about is consequences. So let's get into it. Consequences. Like, you know, punishments with the sins that we commit, consequences with the mistakes or the choices or decisions that we make that are by accident or on purpose. We tend to get into the consequences.
Starting point is 00:01:00 With every action, there is a consequence. Like in Let's Live it. Numbers 14. 1 through 24. Consequences. Read numbers 14, 1 through 24. God forgave us people when they did not obey. But those people had to live in the wilderness for 40 years until all the adults who would not obey had died.
Starting point is 00:01:31 Being forgiven means that the person. We have wronged is not angry with us anymore, but we may still have to take the consequences for what we did. Read this story and decide what you think this dad should do. Dad told Andy, don't bounce your ball off the side of the house, but later Andy felt bored. He tossed his ball toward the side of the house and hit the window. crash. The ball went through the window. Andy! Dad called, come in here. What do you think Andy's dad should do? Ground him. Forgive him and then ground him. Make Andy pay for the window. Forgive Andy and make him pay for the window. Just tell Andy, I forgive you.
Starting point is 00:02:29 Tell your parents the story about Andy and then explain to them what you think Andy. dad should do and why. Read numbers 14, 1 through 24. The people rebel, 14. That night, all the people of the community raised their voices and wept aloud. All the Israelites grumbled against Moses and Aaron, and the whole assembly said to them, if only we had died in Egypt or in this desert, why is the Lord bringing us to this land only to let us fall by the sword? Our wives and children will be taken as plunder. Wouldn't it be better for us to go back to Egypt? And they said to each other,
Starting point is 00:03:22 we should choose a leader and go back to Egypt. Then Moses and Aaron fell face down in front of the whole Israeli community. Israeli assembly gathered there. Joshua son of Nun and Caleb, son of Jepuna, who were among those who had explored the land, tore their clothes and said to this entire Israelite assembly, the land we passed through, and explored it is extremely good. If the Lord is pleased with us, he will lead us into that land, a land flowing with milk and honey, and will give it to us. us. Only do not rebel against the Lord and do not be afraid of the people of the land
Starting point is 00:04:11 because we will swallow them up. Their protection is gone. But the Lord is with us. Don't be afraid of them. But the whole assembly talked about stoning them. Then the glory of the Lord
Starting point is 00:04:27 appeared at the tent of meeting to all the Israelites. The Lord said to Moses, how long will these people treat me with contempt? How long will they refuse to believe in me? In spite of all the miraculous signs I have performed among them, I will strike them down with a plague and destroy them,
Starting point is 00:04:54 but I will make you into a nation greater and stronger than they. Moses said to the Lord, then the Egyptians will hear about it, by your power, You brought these people up from among them, and they will tell the inhabitants of this land about it. They have already heard that you, O Lord, are with these people, that you, O Lord, have been seen face to face, that your cloud stays over them, and that you go before them in a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. If you put these people to death all at one time, the nations who have heard this report about you will say, the Lord was not able to bring these people into the land.
Starting point is 00:05:45 He promised them on oath. So he slaughtered them in the desert. Now may the Lord's strength be displayed. Just as you have declared, the Lord is slow to anger, abounding in love and forgiving, sin and rebellion, yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished. He punishes the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation.
Starting point is 00:06:15 In accordance with their great love, forgive the sin of these people, just as you have pardoned them from the time they left Egypt until now. The Lord replied, I've forgiven them, as you asked. Nevertheless, as surely as I live and as surely has the glory of the Lord fills the whole earth, not one of the men who saw my glory in the miraculous signs I performed in Egypt and in the desert, but who disobeyed me and tested me ten times. Not one of them will ever see the land I promised on oath to their forefathers.
Starting point is 00:06:56 No one who has treated me with contempt will ever see it. But because my servant, Caleb, has a different spirit and follows me wholeheartedly, I will bring them into the land he went to. His descendants will inherit it since the Amalekites and the Canaanites are living in the valleys. Return. And the valleys turn back tomorrow. and sat out toward the desert along the route to the red seat. The Lord said in Moses and Aaron, how long will this wicked community grumble against me?
Starting point is 00:07:40 I've heard the complaints of these grumbling Israelites. So tell them, as sure as I live, declares the Lord, I will do to you the very things I heard you say. In this desert your bodies will fall. every one of you 20 years old or more, who was counted in the census and who has grumbled against me. Now one of you will enter the land,
Starting point is 00:08:05 I swore with uplifted hand to make your home, except Caleb, son of Japan, and Joshua, son of none. As for your children that you said would be taken as plunder, I will bring them into enjoy the land you have rejected.
Starting point is 00:08:28 But you, your bodies will fall in this desert. Your children will be shepherds here for 40 years, suffering for your unfaithfulness until the last of your bodies lie in the desert. For 40 years, one year before each of the 40 days you explored the land. You will suffer for your sins and, no. what is like to have me against you. I, the Lord, have spoken. I will surely do these things to this whole wicked community,
Starting point is 00:09:05 which has banded together against me. They will meet their end in this desert. Here they will die. So the men Moses had sent to explore the land, who returned and made the whole community crumble against him, grumble against him by spreading a bad report about it. These men responsible for spreading the bad report about the land were struck down and died of a plague before the Lord. Of the men who went to explore the land, only Joshua's son of none and Caleb's son of Jopuna survived.
Starting point is 00:09:43 When Moses reported this to all the Israelites, they mourned bitterly. early the next morning they went up toward their high hill country we have sinned they said we will go up to the place the lord promised but moses said why are you disobeying the lord's command this will not succeed do not go up because the lord is not with you you will be defeated by your enemies for the amalekites and canaanites will face you there because you have taken turned away from the Lord, he will not be with you and you will fall by the sword. Nevertheless, in their presumption, they went up toward the high hill country, though neither Moses nor the ark of the Lord's covenant moved from the camp. Then the Malekites and Canaanites who lived in that hill country came down and attacked them and beat them down all the way to Horma. So consequences, right?
Starting point is 00:10:52 Like how people were forgiven by God, but they disobeyed God. Even though you get an apology, it doesn't mean you're in the clear. You got to perform the test, the test in the form of the consequence to make sure you know not to do it. ever again. Because we've got to continue to obey God at all costs. Continue to obey God
Starting point is 00:11:30 at all of the world, all of the life, all of the lifetime. Because we can't disobey God. God was put through consequence,
Starting point is 00:11:45 even though it wasn't a consequence, he still forgave those who sacrificed him for generations. and generations forward. All of us.
Starting point is 00:11:59 He sacrificed for each and every one of us. And God still forgave, even though he was sacrificed. That goes to show that you could take the consequences like a man or woman out there. Taking the consequences isn't a bad thing. Owning up to your mistakes. owning up to your flaws is not a bad thing. It makes you resilient. It makes you strong because God owned up to everything.
Starting point is 00:12:33 Jesus owned up to everything. And he forgave them, even though he was sacrificed for each any one of us and futures of generations to come. So what makes you resilient is taking the beatings that come with. the mistakes and decisions, the bad decisions and bad choices and bad mistakes that you made, because the consequences are worth it to be owned up for.
