Welcome to positivity successor episode 3.32. Today's topic what we're talking about is ask first. So let's get into it. Ask first. in this world, in this life, in this lifetime.
Starting point is 00:00:40 The most important thing is, permission is the key to being cleared to do something. Because it's not okay to steal light, liars. cheat, lie cheating and stealing is not good in the world. Telling the truth, following directions, all that is what's important in this world. And with asking first on a belonging or about something, asking first is always the best way of permission to borrow something or do something first because it's not okay to take things without asking. Always permission to ask first.
Starting point is 00:01:58 Because like in Let's Live it, Joshua 9 1 through 18, ask first. God had told Joshua to drive all the different peoples out of the land of canon, but one group of people, the Ghibionites, tricked Joshua and the Israelites. Read Joshua 9-1 through 18 to find out how. The Bible says the people of Israel did not inquire of the Lord. Joshua 914. This means they did not ask before they acted. When a person isn't sure about something, he or she should ask first.
Starting point is 00:02:45 Here are some questions that you might want to ask before you act. May I use the stapler if I put it back when I'm done? It's all right if I cut across your yard. What should I do with the money I found in the street? Can I read my life? library book if I get my math done early. Think of, think of other questions you should ask before you go ahead and do something. Give yourself three points for each question you think of.
Starting point is 00:03:20 See how many points you can earn in 10 minutes or play the game at the supper table with your whole family helping you think of. think of things to ask about before acting. Read Joshua 9 1 through 18. The Gibbonite Deception 9. Now when all the kings west of the Jordan heard about these things, those in the hill country in the western foothills and alongside along the entire coast of the Great Sea, as far as Lebanon.
Starting point is 00:04:08 The king of the Hittites, Amarites, Canaanites, Perisites, Hivites, and Jibisites. They came together to make war against Joshua and Israel. However, when the people of Gibbon heard what Joshua had done
Starting point is 00:04:25 to Jericho and I, they resorted to a ruse. They went as a death, a delegation whose donkeys were loaded with worn out sacks and old wine skins cracked and mended. The men put worn and patched sandals on their feet and wore old clothes. All the bread of their food supply was dry and moldy. Then they went to Joshua and the king. camp at Gilgau and said to him in the men of Israel, we have come from a distant country, make a
Starting point is 00:05:11 treaty with us. The men of Israel said to the Elhivites, but perhaps you live near us. How then can we make a treaty with you? We are your servants, they said to Joshua. But Joshua asked, who are you? And where did you come from? They answered, your servants. have come from a very distant country because of the fame of the Lord your God, for we have heard reports of him, all that he did in Egypt and all that he did to the two kings of the Amirites, east of Jordan, Sihon, King of Hashban, and Ag, King of Bashan, who reigned in Ashtaroth and our elders and all those living in our country said to us, take provisions for your journey.
Starting point is 00:06:10 Go and meet them and say to them, we are your servants, make a treaty with us. This bread of ours was warm when we had packed it at home on the day we left to come to you. But now see how dry and moldy it is, and these wine skins that we filled were new, but see how cracked they are, and our clothes and sandals are worn out by the very long journey? The men of Israel sampled their provisions,
Starting point is 00:06:43 but did not inquire of the Lord. Then Joshua made a treaty of peace with them to let them live, and the leaders of the assembly ratified it by oath. Three days after they made the treaty with the Gibbeanites, the Israelites heard that they were neighbors living near them. So the Israelites set out and on the third day came to their cities, Gibbyon Kifahairah, Hirah, Beiroth, and Kiraiath, Jiram. But the Israelites did not attack them because
Starting point is 00:07:25 the leaders of the assembly had sworn an oath to them by the Lord. The God of Israel. The whole assembly grumbled against the leaders, but all the leaders answered, we have given them our oath by the Lord, the God of Israel, and we cannot touch them. Now, this is what we will do to them. We will let them live so that wrath
Starting point is 00:07:54 will not fall on us for breaking the oath we swore to them. They continued, let them live, but let them be woodcutters and water carriers for the entire community. So the leader's promise to them was kept. Then Joshua summoned the Gimianites and said, Why did you deceive us by saying, we live a long way from you, while actually you live near us. You are now under a curse. You will never cease to serve as woodcutters and water carriers for the house of my God.
Starting point is 00:08:41 They answered Joshua, your servants were clearly told how the Lord your God had commanded his servant Moses to give you the whole land and to why. wipe out all its inhabitants from before you. So we feared for our lives because of you, and that is why we did this. We are now in your hands. Due to us, whoever seems good and right to you. So Joshua saved them from the Israelites,
Starting point is 00:09:15 and they did not kill them. That day, he made the Ghibionites woodcutters and water carriers for the community. and for the altar of the Lord at the place by the Lord would choose, at the place the Lord will choose, and that is what they are to this day. So remember, permission is the key to a granted entry. Permission is the rules.
Starting point is 00:09:54 Permission is the laws. Follow the permissions first. And then you will be granted entry. If you do not follow the permission, you did something without interacting or asking. So always do something with permission before you do it. So I hope everyone enjoy this, Bowery on our episode, Positive, Successor.
