Hey, men, have a positive day.
Welcome to Positiveity Successor, Episode 470.
Today, we got a special guest. He is an author of upcoming book released on November 10th,
2026 of everything feels impossible until it's done and coach at uid club and founder of hashtag brussels
and associate founder at vdb hospitality group here is vincent van den bro that was good enough yeah
the last name is a struggle for everybody literally it's a pretty shitty last name
Welcome to the podcast.
If you can let everyone know who we are and what you do.
Thank you for having me, James.
Honestly, the honor is online.
So I'm basically Vincent from a country called Belgium.
I grew up in Edward,
Mexico, Brussels when I was 24.
Been working in hospital before the past 15 years.
That's, but, you know,
sorry, James Allen, I got a bit bothered here.
So I was saying,
he's been working in hospitality
for the past 15 years.
As an employee,
to start with,
started my own very first business one.
In 2018, I was eight years ago,
so I was 26,
started some more lost a lot started some more lost some more it was uh years of ups and downs ups and
down COVID came along and then I was very on top of the pie October 11 2024 I get hit by a cart
and I almost die I would lose my I almost lose my life um spent three weeks in coma I go a couple of
months through rehab.
And now we, and now I published a book in 2026.
So, uh, some hectic years behind me.
Beautiful, but hectic.
I'm glad, glad you're here.
Um, thank you.
I got, I got some questions lined, lined up.
First one.
Um, these are questions that were suggested that we,
go over why are why so many of us postpone happiness why because it's the
honestly because it's the easy route to take it's just easier to you know and it's actually
a fun because we think it's the no i'm going to make it better because we think it's the easy way
and it is the easy way in the moment
to not choose for happiness because, okay, you're just following along and you let life come to you.
That's easy path.
The difficult path to take in the moment is choosing for your happiness every single day.
And I will tell people it's easier to be unhappy than to be happy.
It's easier to be unhealthy than to be healthy.
It's easier to be negative than to be positive.
it's just it's what it is it is what it is and so we choose to and then there's this thing choose your
heart because in the moment it's harder but on the long term not choosing for your happiness
will always be harder too so what do you prefer hard right now or harder later on absolutely
that's awesome
what um
what loved ones
truly endure
during prolonged
critical illness
they have to
they have to carry you
they're your arms
especially in my case
they're your arms
they're your legs
they're your
minds even
they literally they carry you
And especially when we're talking about chronic illness, when we're talking about long-term rehab, we can luck with that.
And I know what I'm talking about because my mom passed away when I was 20, four days before my 21st birthday.
And she got diagnosed with cancer two years earlier, but this time terminal.
So she was given two years to left.
And those last six months, he was in a bad place.
Like everything was, we had to help her take a back.
We had to help to go to the toilet.
And when you take care of somebody on an intensive basis, that's stuff.
So with the way you went through, how facing it,
can reinforce rather than alter your deepest beliefs?
For me, it was, as I've been telling many times, for me,
the accident exposed, just everything what I've already believed in,
and I was acting.
When you do something that is considered impossible,
which in my case it was, the narrative when I was going to call it,
coma to my wife and family was like your husband is probably going to die start preparing the
funeral and then um but when you do something that is considered impossible that doesn't happen
overnight and we talk about it over the overnight success comes from years of building years
of sacrifice years of tough decisions and it's everything coming together and it's everything coming together
It was perspective, it was gratefulness, it was pushing your limits, it was being kind.
And that all was tested the moment I needed it off the most.
Amazing.
The crucial difference between being transformed by trauma and having your existing values tested to their absolute limit.
Yeah, that's exactly what I just told you right now.
Like the thing is, it is more sellable for it to be an epiphany moment.
Like you become someone completely different.
That is more syllable.
But the rule to me was, yeah, indeed that.
It just literally, it was almost.
as if I had to prove my value system, my discipline towards myself.
Like, oh, listen, you pretend you're that one.
Okay.
Show me right now.
That's awesome.
Why rejects the idea that he'd become a different person after the accident
instead of feeling more certain than ever about what generally matters?
Exactly, you're getting the same thing.
Like, I'm big on authenticity.
I'm big on you being new.
And so everything I will talk about that I will tell people is just me.
so yeah unfortunately you know unfortunately or fortunately
or fortunately however you see it
the accident didn't change me
exactly the the recent you're talking to today is exactly the same
the morning of October 11, 2024 exactly the same
what I see is the hard work the
the the resilience and
the strong
uh strong uh strong ethics in you that that you've gone
what you've gone through i see how you uh continue to be resilient in hard work
and strong through through all that and the last question i have is um
what are three things that you are grateful for
Or in general.
In general.
Okay.
First thing, first thing, having this conversation with you right now.
Generally, grateful for that.
I'm grateful for my life, my life.
Brother, just my, I'm grateful for a thousandth, a four thousandth thing,
thing for a thousand things sorry
I'm just grateful
for life like come on
look around us
like how amazing is it to have a
conversation with James right now
while working at
my place right before

while waking up right next to my
wife this morning then go
