Thanks for tuning to a light-changing podcast. God bless. Amen. Have a positive day. Welcome to positivity successor, episode 73. Continuing on with the Bible. Let's get into it. Consideration of the firstborn. 13. The Lord said to Moses.
Starting point is 00:00:31 And securate to me every firstborn male. The first offspring of every womb among the Israelites belongs to me with a man or animal. Then Moses said to the people, Commemorate this day. The day you came out of Egypt out of the land of slavery, because the Lord brought you out of it with the mighty hand. Eat nothing containing yeast. Today in the first month of Ebbib,
Starting point is 00:01:01 You are leaving when the Lord brings you to the land of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorytes, Hivites, and Jubicites. The land he swore to your forefathers to give you a land flowering with milk and honey. You are to observe this ceremony in this month. For seven days, eat bread made without yeast. And on the seventh day, hold a festival to the Lord. Eat unbeliefing bread during those seven days. Nothing with yeast in it is to be seen among you, nor shall any yeast that they tell your son. I do this because of what the Lord did for me when I came out of Egypt.
Starting point is 00:01:45 This observance will be for you like a sign on your hand, and a reminder on your forehead that the law of the Lord is to be on your lips. For the Lord brought you out of Egypt with his mind. You must keep this ordinance at the pointed time year after year. After the Lord brings you into the land of the Canaanites and gives it to you, as you promised on an oath to you and your forefathers, you are to give over to the Lord the first offspring of every womb. All the first-born males of your livestock belong to the Lord. Redeem with the lamb every first-born donkey.
Starting point is 00:02:24 But if you do not redeem it, break its neck. Redeem every firstborn among your sons. In the days to come, when your son asks you, what does this mean? Say to him, with the mighty hand of the Lord has brought us out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. When Pharaoh was stubbornly refused to let us go, the Lord killed every firstborn in Egypt, both male and animal. man and animal. This is why I sacrificed the Lord and the first male offspring of every womb. And redeem each of my firstborn sons. It will be like a sign of your hand and a symbol on your forehead
Starting point is 00:03:12 that the Lord brought a saddle of Egypt with his mighty hand. Crossing the sea. When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them. on the road through the Philistine country, through that was shorter. For God said, if they face war, where they might change their mind to return to Egypt, so God led the people around by the desert road toward the Red Sea. The Israelites went out of Egypt armed for battle. Moses took the bones of Joseph with him because Joseph had made the sins of Israel's war on oath. He had said, God will surely come to your aid, and then you must carry my bones up with you from this place.
Starting point is 00:04:01 After leaving Sukkath, they camped at them on the edge of the desert. By day the Lord went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in the pillar of fire to give them light so that they could travel by day or night. Neither the pillar of cloud by day nor the pillar of fire by night left its place in front of the people. 14. Then the Lord said to Moses, tell the Israelites to turn back and encamp near Paihaeraiath between Migdow and the sea. They were to encamp by the sea directly opposite Balzepon. Pharaoh will think the Israelites, are wandering around the land and confusion, hemmed in by the desert, I will harden Pharaoh's heart,
Starting point is 00:05:01 and he will pursue them, but I will gain glory for myself through Pharaoh and all his army and the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord. So the Israelites did this. When the king of Egypt was told that the people had fled, Pharaoh and his officials changed their minds about them, and and said, what have we done? We have let the Israelites go and have lost their services. So he had his chariot made ready and took his army with them. He took 600 of the best chariots, along with all the other chariots of Egypt, with officers all over all of them.
Starting point is 00:05:45 The Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh, king of Egypt, so that he pursued the Israelites who were marching out boldly. The Egyptians, all feral horses and chariots horsemen and troops, pursued the Israelites and overtook them as they camped by the sea near Pai Ha'i-Rath. Opposipa has Pharaoh approached. The Israelites looked up and there was the Egyptians marching after them. They were terrified and carried out to the Lord. They said to Moses, was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us to the desert to die?
Starting point is 00:06:31 What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt? Didn't we say to you in Egypt, leave us alone? Let us serve the Egyptians. It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the desert. Moses answered the people, do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance. The Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians will see today you will never see again.
Starting point is 00:07:01 The Lord will fight for you. You need only to be still. Then the Lord said Moses, why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move on. Raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea to divide the water so that the Israelites can go through the Jesus. sea on the dry ground. I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they will go out and after them. And I will gain glory through Pharaoh and all his army, through his chariots, and his
Starting point is 00:07:31 horsemen. The Egyptians will know that I am the Lord when I gain glory through Pharaoh, his chariots, and his horsemen. Then the angel of God who had been traveling in front of Israel's army withdrew and went behind them. The pillar of cloud also moved from in front and still behind them, coming between the armies of Egypt and Israel. Throughout the night, the cloud brought darkness to the one side and light to the other side, so neither went near the other all night long. Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and all that night. The Lord drove the sea back with a strong east wind and turned into dry land.
Starting point is 00:08:19 The waters were divided and the Israelites through the sea on the dry ground with a wall of water on their right and on their left. The Egyptians pursued them and all pharaohs, horses, and chariots and horsemen followed them into the sea. During the last watch of the night, the Lord looked down from the pillar of fire and clod up the Egyptian army and threw it. into confusion. He made the wheels of their chariots come off so that they had difficulty driving. And the Egyptians said, let's get away from the Israelites. The Lord is fighting for them against Egypt. Then the Lord said Moses, stretch out your hand over the sea so that the waters may fall back over the Egyptians and their chariots and horsemen. Moses stretched out his hand over the sea and at daybreak The sea went back to its place.
Starting point is 00:09:16 The Egyptians were fleeing toward it, and the Lord swept them into the sea. The water flowed back and covered the chariots and horsemen, the entire army of Pharaoh that had followed the Israelites into the sea. Not one of them survived, but the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground with the water, with a wall of water on their right and on their left. That day the Lord saved Israel from the hands of the Egyptians and Israel saw the Egyptians lying dead on the shore. And when the Israelites saw the great power, the Lord displayed against the Egyptians, the people feared the Lord and put their trust in Moses, his servant. So that's where we're going to stop. Pick back up at the Song of Moses and Miriam 15.
Starting point is 00:10:12 Let's live it. Exodus 14, 1 through 31. Sand and sea. Here's a fun game you could play at a birthday party or any other time. Mark off part of your yard to be sand, but make most of its sea. Divide into two teams. One team is Israelite. The other team is Egyptian.
Starting point is 00:10:35 The Egyptians try to recapture their Israelite slaves before the whistle blow, and the sea covers them up. Follow these rules. One, everyone must walk. No one may run. Two, the Israelites get a three-second head start walking into the sea. Three, Egyptians must tag the Israelites in the sea to capture them, then walk them slowly back to the sand.
Starting point is 00:11:06 A capture Israelite brought to the sand is out of the game. 4. At the beginning, decide how many seconds each play will last. Blow a whistle wet when that play is over. 5. An Egyptian caught in the sea while the whistle blows has drowned and is out of the game. Israelites cannot be hurt by the water when the whistle blows. 6. The team has all its members either captured or drowned, loses.
Starting point is 00:11:42 After you play the game, talk about the story in Exodus 14131. In that Bible story, how many Israelites were captured, how many Egyptian soldiers escaped drowning. God really does take care of his own. So thank you guys for returning to another interesting bout.
