They're beautiful birds. They are. Welcome to PTI, boys and girls. In today's episode, the Timberwolves tradeaway Julius Randall. The Wizards have a decision to make in tonight's draft. And Jay Billis joins us for five good minutes. But we begin today with the trade of Janice onto Tocompo from Milwaukee to Miami. The Buck sent the former MVP and teammate Bobby Portis to the heat for Tyler Hero,

a couple of other players, and a giant hole of number one draft picks, stretching all the way to 233. Well, on how much better is Miami? Did Milwaukee get enough? And where does this leave Boston, start wherever you want? All right, Tony. I'll start with Miami Heat. I mean, let's face it.

that's where we're going to start because they get the big fish. They get Janice, who's been an MVP in this league, who's been a champion in this league. And you get him and you put him in heat culture, if he can exist there. I don't know that being the missing team flights and being three hours late, as he reportedly was in Milwaukee multiple times. I don't know that that works for Pat Riley and their exposure, but nonetheless. We know that Janice could play at one point. I don't know if he can play anymore because he hasn't played when it matters for,

five years. He hadn't done squat. He's been hurt in the playoffs. Yonis is a rumor to me. Now, you and I said at the end of yesterday show, we don't want to bet against Pat Riley because we don't, because you know that Pat Riley gets this right more often than just about anybody ever. And so Pat Riley and Eric's bolstress and their staff, they see something here that says, okay, we can get for the next three years after this first year, something out of Yonis and pursue with Bam a championship and maybe they can Tony, but they got to get more players. Their roster is not full now.

It is not set now. It's not ready to challenge now because they're missing too many things. I know it takes time, but they don't have any money. The Celtics seems to me with one sentence they're going to have to deal Jalen Brown because when you're a sensitive guy anyway and now a team has dangled you out there,

you didn't feel appreciated enough by them anyway. It seems like, eh, that's not going to work. and I think the buck's got a nice little package in return for Janus, featuring Tyler Hero. Yeah, so I was watching television this morning, and I saw that they flashed across the screen new odds for who's going to win the Eastern Conference. Yeah. And they had Miami third behind Boston and New York.

They had them third, and I thought to myself, wait a second now, weren't they a playing team last year? Didn't they actually finish 10th last year? and they just gave up 20 points a game in Tyler Hero to bring back a guy who, if all things are right, is a great player, but he, as you say, hasn't played much in recent years. Is Janice Santo Tocombo a great player?

He was a great player. I don't know if he is still a great player. And that's my position on that. My position on Milwaukee is different than yours a little bit. I think they got a pile. I really did. I mean, you have to remember. This guy didn't want to be there anymore.

no matter what he said publicly, swearing himself to Milwaukee. Behind the scenes, his people were trying to get him extricated from Milwaukee. So Milwaukee has a complete rebuild that's going to take years. So if you start with two first round picks this year, not second round 13, yeah. Good things. It's a deep draft. I'm with you.

That's the way you do it. And briefly, I agree with you completely on Jalen Brown, who's been dangled out there before. If his feathers are ruffled, maybe you just have to keep. him out there and actually trade him, because I will say this, I get it. I get why Boston would want Yannis. I mean, Yonis can make Boston a championship team right now. So we are aligned. You're lying. You've convinced me, you persuaded me on something. You're right. Milwaukee's got those two picks tonight, 10 and 12 or 10 and 13. My head is swimming with pick numbers.

But with those two picks, Tony, and what else you got, starting with Talley Hero, who's from Milwaukee. I mean, you know, so this should play okay in Wisconsin if Yonis doesn't want to be a chief. said. Then move them out. Yeah. They just did. We had another trade in the NBA last night. The Timberwolf sent Julius Randall to the Nets as part of a three-teen deal that also sent backup center Nick Claxton to

my Bulls. Randall went 21, 7, and 5 for Minnesota last season, but he got punished by the Spurs in the playoffs, and now he's out. Tone, do you understand this trade? I understand it from this perspective. Minnesota hates Julius Randall. They just traded

him for nothing, nothing. The 33rd pick in the draft. They picked up Julius Randall, carried him to the side of the boat, threw him overboard into the East River and said, float to Brooklyn. That's honestly what they did. They took Randall's salary. They gave it to that kid you like a lot, Iowa. They gave him the money. And they said to Julius Randall, the best way you can help us is to get out of here. Let's look at his career. He comes out. He's a prolific scorer at Kentucky, right? six foot nine. He goes to the Knicks. Does pretty well. I think he may have made an all-star team once or twice at the Knicks, but the Knicks want Carl Anthony Towns. So they include Randall in the package, get him out of there. He goes to Minnesota. Meanwhile, and this year,

New York wins without him. And you could maybe say that one of the reasons was that they traded him away. Goes to Minnesota, gets to a conference final. But as you mentioned, this year in a playoffs, these numbers are alarming. 13 points a game, 34 percent from the field. 19% from three. So they just give him to Brooklyn and you know what? He's now in exile. He's in exile. It is. He's taking the whole fall

for that. He's taking the whole fall for the loss. I think it's a little bit unfair, but does it make sense? I get it. You and I have talked about this. We sort of knew it was coming. But Tony, here's the thing. You got Ant Man sitting there and you get rid of his wingman to whatever

degree of effectiveness. They did get to a Western Conference final the previous year. You got to go get somebody to help Anthony Edwards. Or he is going to be looking with goo-goo eyes at the Celtics and the heat and other people, too. That's the way the NBA works now. So you got to go get somebody. The pressure is on Minnesota's front office

to get someone to help Anthony Edwards now, like tonight. And so I don't know if they can do that, but when you win, when the next one, when Carl Anthony Towns, who you had goes and he helps to a great degree, not a bit player, a primary player for the Knicks. Absolutely. You're resentful. You are.

So if you are Julius Randall right now, you have just been traded to a team that is three years away from being three years away. And the only good thing is if you kept your apartment that you had when you were with the Knicks. That's the only possible good thing in this. Let's stay with the NBA. I really do. Stay in the NBA and move to your Washington Wizards, Wilbon, who earned the number one pick in the draft by deliberately. losing as many games as they could over the last three years. Unlike last year, there doesn't appear to be a decisive number one choice. The consensus is it's either A.J. DeBance or Darren Peterson.

There's also some long-shot sentiment for Cameron Boozer. Wilbon, if you were the wizards, whom would you take? DeBanza. And in full disclosure, you and I and our friend of socialites spent a long time discussing this last night. That's right. That's right. We did, because this is a burning issue where we live in Washington, D.C. It's a burning issue around the league, too, because you can juggle the top of the order. But Tony, here's the thing. I know that a great number of teams, if not a great number, a number of teams have Darren Peterson ranked as the best player in the draft.

Here's the issue. There's stuff I don't know. And if I'm the Wizards and I'm taking a big swing and this is the draft where you need to get well, you have some flexibility, you just signed Trey Young. You don't know what you're going to do with Anthony Davis. You got SAR, you got stuff you can put in place. you want to make a run and getting into the playoffs next year.

Darren Peterson, really? Because I can tell you right now, DeBanza, I've met DeBanza. I've talked to him and his father at length, and DeBanza's a kid I want. If I was just inviting kids to my house for dinner, I want DeBanza and Caleb Wilson. Darren Peterson,

eh, I don't know. There's stuff that teams don't know. So how can you take him above a guy you feel you know who's an athletic stud in DeBanta? didn't do that. All right. So, well, let me look at my notes for a second, because it's hard for me to do this thing with the Wizards.

I am amazed and fascinated by how many people look at this draft and think that the Wizards are going to be really good as a result of it, because either one of these two are rated as Can't Misses. And, of course, that's the number one pick. Two years ago, they got the number two pick in Alex Saar. They are involved in trying to sign Tray Young, Tray Young All-Star, to a, four-year extension, and they have Anthony Davis, Anthony Davis NBA champion. People like you, because you've said this to me privately, think they could make the

playoffs next year as a result of all these things. Okay. So I am not going to say anything about Anthony Davis until I see him walk onto a court in a uniform and not street clothes. Okay? As far as, as far as Tray Young is concerned, his reputation has been burned lately. He led his team in assists and points for years, may have even led the league. But you know what happened when they traded him? They went 28 and 15 without him, and they were 18 and 21 with him. Sarr, we don't know anything about Sarr because every single game that he has played for the Washington Wizards, they have attempted to lose. And you have the number one pick. You know, maybe it's a can't miss, but if anybody can miss, it's been the Washington Wizards. Who would you take?

You're a Mr. Washington, D.C. You're on the clock. Who you're talking? Who you're I would take DeBanza. Me personally, I would take DeBanza. That doesn't mean I would be right. You know, they missed on Kwame Brown. You're going to say that they got it right with John Wall. I'm not going to agree with that because ultimately his career was nothing like you expected it to be in the first couple of years. So I don't know. I don't know about Booser. My Booser averaged more points a game than DeBanza. I'm sorry, he had more threes and assists than DeBanza. He averaged more points than Peterson. and his rebounding was almost the equal of those two guys in total. Maybe he's the best player.

I don't know. Let's take a break. Coming up, we will ask Jay Billis to compare and contrast A.J. DeVanssa and Darren Peterson. We'll also ask him to break down the top stars from Duke and North Carolina. Billis can get involved in that Duke, North Carolina thing. Tony, it's a different time, though. Every draft ain't the same. This ain't the John Wall draft.

This draft has got some heat at the top. Yeah. Let's get back into tonight's NBA draft with our great friend ESPN college basketball analyst, the dashing draft expert, Jay Billis. Let's start with this, Jay. Let's go to the top of the board. What do you see when you compare A.J. DeBanza to Darren Peterson? Well, first, I've never been a part of a draft like this one where you had people saying about multiple players.

This guy could be the best player in the draft when we look back at it. And it's like six or seven guys that I've heard that said about. and I think that's fair. But when you look at Peterson and DeBanza, two players, and I would include Cameron Boozer in there as well, three players that are worthy of being the number one overall selection in this draft. Peterson from Kansas is the most talented player. I mean, he is a savant scoring the ball.

And DeBonza looks like he was made in a lab to play in the NBA. You know, he's 6'8, 7 foot wingspan. He's got a big time mid-range game that he can use these long strides to get to his spots and rise up and make NBA level mid-range shots right now. And he's strong, gets to the foul line. I mean, there's nothing not to like about the two players. I think the issue is Peterson had cramping issues throughout the season that limited him to 24 games. And that put some doubt in your mind.

But when those two played against each other, I called the game. I think it was in January, but they played against each other. And in the first half, Peterson had 18 points. on six of eight from the field and three steals. There was no question at halftime who was the better player that day. It was Peterson. But his cramping popped up in the second half

and didn't play as much, and DeBonso wound up with 17 points for the game. They're both great players and great prospects. I think that I prefer Peterson because of the talent level, but I would not argue with anyone who says they prefer DeBonza. Jay, let's go to another either or apparently. Cam Booser and Caleb Wilson, Duke in North Carolina. I'm on pins and needles about getting one of those guys,

but what do you see when you compare those two? I think Cameron Boozer is the best pure basketball player in this draft, and one of the reasons is, look, his productivity is undeniable. He averaged like 23 points and over 10 rebounds a game. He shot right at 40% from 3 with a high volume for his position, and he's a high-level rebounder, and he's a great passer. But what sets him apart is his processing skills. A lot of guys understand the game,

but he processes it in real time at an elite level. Caleb Wilson is a little bit different. Like, he's a young colt that is, in my view, the most dynamic athlete in this draft. And Cameron Carr from Baylor could make a similar claim. There are other guys who are great athletes in that realm. But Caleb Wilson has this explosive nature to his game that he does things instinctively. So there are times on defense where you could stop the film and go, look, he's out of position.

He doesn't have good vision on the ball. He's not where he's supposed to be and do all this coach stuff. And then he makes a play anyway because he's just so athletic and so instinctive and so good. And as he gets better technique and learns more and he will, he's one of the guys that I've heard a lot of people say he could wind up being the best player in this draft. You say the same thing about Darius Aikov Jr. of Arkansas. There are a number of players that you could say that about. Jay, that leads me perfectly into the next question. Outside those top four, which we just discussed in detail, who do you see that you really like going from, who knows, four to 12 or beyond?

There are a bunch of guys. So I think Darius Aykuff Jr. of Arkansas is probably the best scorer in this draft. He averaged 23 a game and averaged over six and a half assist. he led the SEC in scoring and assist. First time that's happened since Pete Marevich did it back at LSU, and that's been a minute. And there have been a lot of great players in that league that have gone into great NBA success. But I'll give you one other name that I really like,

that I don't know where he's going to go. My guess is it's going to be anywhere from 9 to 12 or something like that. And that's more as Johnson Jr. of Michigan. He's 6'8, he's got a 7-3 wing span. He's a defensive weapon. He can switch out on a point guard and not just stay in front for a couple of dribbles. He can guard the guy and take the ball from him. He's a lob thread.

He's a great athlete, powerful, and I think his growth is going to be amazing at the next level. But he's got a couple of teammates, Adaira and Yaxel Lenderborg that are going to go in that area of the draft as well. So it's going to be a good night for the Wolverines. This is great. I'd like to have another Chicago kid on the Bulls, Ross. I can do that with our second pick. That's fine with me. I'm more interested in Soresby. I think that's a pretty good story. The Sorsby thing is not having the draft. Happy Time, People, happy belated 55th birthday, Kurt Warner. This was yesterday.

Warner won a Super Bowl with the St. Louis Rams when they were the greatest show on turf. Warner was Super Bowl MVP after the Rams beat Tennessee, 23 to 16, when Kevin Dyson was stopped one yard short of the goal line and time ran out. Ironically, Dyson is 51 years old today. In that game, Warner was 24 of 45, 414 yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions. Warner's backstory as quarterback of the Arena League, Iowa Barnstormers, is well known.

Warner made one more Super Bowl with the Rams than made another with the Cardinals. He's in the Hall of Fame and broadcasts on Westwood One Radio and the NFL Network. And he is great on television. By the way, Tony, if John Starks doesn't go two for 18 in game, I'm just saying they would have sort of the same backstories, certainly similar backstories. John Starks working in a similar capacity makes it all the way that far from a championship would have joined today's birthday honorary. Happy anniversary, John Isner and Nicholas Mahout. On this day, 16 years ago in a first round match at Wimbledon, the two broke the record for the longest tennis match ever.

The match began on June 22nd. The record was broken on June 23rd, and the match, ended into June 24th before Isner won. In total, the match took 11 hours and five minutes. On its own, the final sets time of eight hours and 11 minutes would have set the record for the longest match ever. The final score was 6-4, 36, 67, 7, 76, 70 to 68 for a total of 183 games.

In those days, there was no fifth set tiebreaker for men. Now there is, so this is likely to remain the longest match ever. been to some impossibly long contest before. Remember that crazy game the Capitals were involved in, four overtimes into Eastern Morning. Yeah, Easter morning. You and I were there. I am so glad I was not in attendance at that.

That's too long. No, that tennis match is too long. Happy trails to the Men's College World Series for North Carolina. The fifth-seated tar heels got stomped by unseated Oklahoma in the deciding game three between the two teams 13 to two. The Sooners number nine hitter Kyle Branch can be. into the game just one for 16 in the tournament, but had two singles a home run and six RBI. Oklahoma was such a long shot to win this thing, losing seven of its last 10 regular season

games, getting knocked out of the SEC tournament in the first round and facing elimination three times in its regional. It is the seventh straight men's baseball title for the SEC. That's great. Was I too hard on Darren Peterson? Maybe if I met him, talked to him, I'd like him too. Maybe. Maybe. Maybe. Well, you like everybody that you act. Not everybody. Let's go to the big finish. Let's do it. Killian Mbapé, Erling Harland,

and Cristiano Ronaldo all scored twice in the last 25 hours. What's the most significant? Rinaldo, people were digging his grave. What do you do? Rinaldo, man. I'm glad to see him come up huge. Could have had a hat trick. Came close.

NFL told Brendan Sorsby, it will not hold a supplemental draft for him. What does that mean? I'm stunned. I thought they were going to do it. They don't do it every year. It means he's going to have to wait until 2,000. 27 NFL draft. PGA Tour will have championship and challenger series

with promotion and relegation starting in 2008. You like it? My first reaction is this nonsense. I don't even understand it. No, I don't like it. In the NHL, the Oilers hired Mike Babcock as their new head coach.

And in the NBA, the Blazers hired Mike Anori for one season. What's the bigger deal? Yeah. Well, going to the Oilers, they have a chance to win the NHGEL Stanley Cup. Of course. Last one, Brady Kachuk says he and his brother won't have first initials on their Panthers jersey.

Just her last name. Is that okay by you? If anybody's living and breathing in the commissioner's office in the NHL, they'll decide that.
