Pardon the interruption, but I'm Mike Wilburne.
LeBron says he planned to join the Knicks, but they went out and won a championship and he feared the backlash.
Would you have ripped him for that?
I'm Tony Kornizer, no, but I know somebody who would have, somebody would have.
Every day.
Every day.
That's the ultimate front run.
Better that he didn't go there.
Yeah, he doesn't need to.
But I know you wanted him to go to Golden State.
I would have loved that.
Yeah.
I think he's fine in Philly.
I think Philly's fine will be fun and won't.
Watch. Welcome to PTI boys and girls in today's episode, The Seahawks Ball to the Commanders.
Florida takes it to Ole Miss and the baseball playoffs start tomorrow.
But we begin today with our usual NFL roundup. In this story, we will concentrate on yesterday's notable winners.
Denver beat your Rams in the last minute after originally falling behind 16 to nothing.
Baltimore got a literal last second field goal on a two-play drive that started with only seven seconds left to beat Dallas in Brazil.
The Las Vegas Raiders went to 3-0
by beating New Orleans 35-27
in a very entertaining game.
The 49ers beat Arizona
to also get the 3-0,
and the Cleveland Browns are suddenly
two-and-one under new head coach Todd Monkin,
your dear friend,
by beating Carolina
on good fourth quarter play
by Deshawn Watson.
Wilbon, which wins stood out the most to you?
Let me disqualify three teams
right off the top because you're supposed to win.
And particularly when you're home like Denver,
even though I'll get to that game a little bit later,
you're Denver, you're at home.
You got maybe the greatest home field advantage in football sometimes, some years.
And Baltimore, Baltimore is supposed to win.
But not at home.
And I don't trust, no, but I don't trust Dallas.
Okay.
You know why?
Because Dallas is dumb every year.
It doesn't matter what they do to their offense and defense.
They just seem intellectually challenged, no matter who's running that outfit.
And the 49ers played some sort of JV game.
So no, the two teams that I can't separate are Las Vegas and Cleveland.
Mm-hmm.
They're not supposed to win.
Cleveland. You mentioned Todd Monkin who I take.
You ripped him. Big George Foreman-sized shots at.
Let me give him some credit.
And Deshawn Watson, who looks almost like the old Deshawn Watson, a few plays, didn't he?
And Las Vegas, Tony, the Raiders, nobody had them 3-0.
And they look competent and they have a veteran quarterback who knows what he's doing.
And the Heisman Trophy-winning Prize Rook can sit over there and learn, be learned.
That's right.
As Moses, the great Moses Malone used to say, so I'm going to go with Vegas and Cleveland.
Yeah, I'm going to amplify what you're saying about Vegas.
They are the most surprising team to me in the league at 3-0.
Now, they haven't beaten anybody good.
They've beaten Miami and the Chargers and the Saints, but two of those wins were on the road.
And it looks like Kirk Cousins is a complete steel.
Yeah.
I mean, he's playing so well, which enables the number one pick to sit and wait and learn.
I don't know where Las Vegas goes from here.
but Las Vegas
Tom Brady must know what he's doing, by the way, there.
Las Vegas was 3 and 14 last year, and they're 3 and 0.
I'm going to disagree with one.
Well, her cousins is most of you know what you're doing.
Because you got a guy who knows how to run a team.
That's right.
That's right.
Offensively released.
I am going to be more charitable in my comments about Baltimore than you are.
Okay.
Baltimore was on the verge of doing what they have done for the last two or three years.
Lower lead.
Lose big games late.
Okay?
I want to get the numbers here.
They were up 24 to 13 late in the third,
and then he gave up two touchdowns, a two-point conversion, and a field goal.
But then they win on that last second field goal.
And one of the great shots is Lamar Jackson running after the referee going time, time, time, time, time.
So they give him a second.
Unlike Michigan, he got a legit second.
They give him a Michigan.
Yes.
That's what they do.
They give him a Michigan, and they make that play.
And I will just say this about Denver.
Denver beat a good team that has had a murderous schedule.
They've had to go from Australia to sea level at Los Angeles.
to altitude at Denver.
My problem with the end of that game is I think there's a bad call on a pass interference
call.
I agree.
I think that that interception ends the game.
How about Bo Nicks didn't get over the goal line?
How about that?
Go back to that replay.
Can we call Torrico and ask him about that?
We love Mike.
You know, I don't agree with that, but we'll get to that now.
I just think that there's a lot of offensive past interference that doesn't get called.
C.D. Lamb was yanking on a gun.
It's the reaction. It's the evolution of that call and that play.
Same.
Too many defensive calls that weren't made over the decades.
Let's move to Sunday's notable losers.
Sam Darnold returned, but Seattle was stunned in Washington.
The Bengals fumbled away their last chance in a loss to Pittsburgh.
The Patriots had their own turnover troubles and were pounded by Jacksonville.
The Texas offense fizzled again as Houston fell to the Colts,
and the Chargers squandered multiple chances against the bills.
Which loss most stood out to you?
The headline loss is the Seahawks losing.
They are the Super Bowl champions.
They give up 33 points to a backup quarterback.
That is a stunner.
I say that as someone who lives in Washington, D.C.,
and thought Washington had no chance, zero chance to win that game.
But I also think we may look back at that at the end of the year
and think that was the oddest game of the year.
There are losses to me that are more concerning, starting with New England.
They got pounded.
They did.
35 to 6.
Drake May has fallen off the cliff.
He has passed Herbert and Love and Stroud on the way down as guys who have been disappointing so far.
They have no offense.
They've scored 36 points.
We talked about this late last year.
There was that worry.
No offense at all.
They were in the Super Bowl last year.
In Drake May's last seven games, he has nine fumbles, 10 interceptions.
He threw three interceptions in the last.
last quarter in game one this year.
He threw a terrible pick into the end zone.
So one of the things you say to yourself
is, do they have a backup?
Because that guy may have to get in the game.
I don't want to go that far, but just last
year, all the pundits had,
Drake May is the best quarterback
in his draft class. You can't just go
wildly from one side of the
room to the other bouncing off the walls.
So no, he shouldn't be benched.
The team that had the most disappointing loss, and I'm with
you on the two Super Bowl teams.
I think that the Seattle thing is an anomaly.
That's right. It's not a big deal.
That's right. Not a big deal. Good for Marriota, who I think may be the best backup quarterback in the league.
It was two and six as a start. I don't care about what he was last year. That was last year with a bad team.
He won yesterday. He beat the champs yesterday. That's right. Let's get him some credit.
Do you give him a chance? I had no chance on that.
The Rams, let's get to the Rams. They lost again. The team that's supposed to be undefeated, unscored upon, and when every game by an average of 10 is one and two.
And I don't want to hear about where they played the game.
Are you back on that?
Because you were on that three weeks ago.
You're back on that.
You think I was off it?
I thought.
I thought you gave a break.
Because the Rams right now, by the way, again, they got hosed because Bo Nix never got the ball to the goal line.
There's no breaking the plane.
That's Michigan-like, okay?
They also, again, they got hosed on the call.
They got, I'm not going to go hosed.
I won't go that far.
But the Rams, Tony, are one and two in a division where they still got more games coming.
another against San Francisco, two against Seattle.
Maybe the Cardinals aren't a total pushover.
They got tough games, and they have to get key players back.
People keep saying, oh, they're going to get Pooka Nuku or win.
They're going to get Miles Garrett win.
Before we get to the next story, I just want to mention this,
that the two worst losses, ultimately, are Houston and the charges.
They're at OM3.
Houston was in one three last year with the players.
I know.
Are you going to bet on them to do that again?
I'm not.
How about the charges?
They were up 10-0 in that game.
And then they went they gave up what is it 24 to 6 for the rest of the game and can I say something else
Josh Allen is really really good now he's a MVP right now he's a MVP had two more
running touchdowns the he is tied for the league lead at six with Derek Henry who thinks the
best back out there right but but as we say would show hey a lot with pitching does Derek Henry
also throw touchdowns no and Josh Allen I'm not going to disqualify
Josh Allen goes.
Let's move to baseball.
Let's move to baseball, where the playoffs begin tomorrow afternoon.
The headlines from the last day of the season were that the Phillies avoided an epic redux collapse from 1964, which I remember, by beating Tampa Bay and claiming the last NL wildcard spot over Arizona.
And then the American League, Houston beat the athletics as Texas lost in Minnesota.
So Houston is in the playoffs at 81 and 81, which is terrible.
Wilmot, here are the first round series.
Phillies at Atlanta, White Sox at Astros, Red Sox at Yankees, and your Cubs.
At your pirates.
Padres.
Padres.
Oh, I said pirates.
I'm sorry.
You don't like the pirates as much as you like the Padres.
Which is the most intriguing matchup of baseball's first round?
You didn't name the one.
Well, you did name them.
I named them all.
I'm going to dismal.
Look, the Cubs have let go of the rope.
They had a great summer.
And they had so many injuries into the pitching staff.
It just hit them.
You believe the Padres will beat them handily.
The Padres will beat their brains out.
The Cubs beat the Padres last year.
Are you guaranteeing a 20-point win like you've done on this show recently?
I'm very disappointed.
I'm very not in a good mood.
I'm in a better mood because of this,
but we have no Caleb tonight against the Eagles.
That's right.
So between the Cubs and the Bears this week, I am worried.
Medina's over, so I got nothing to cheer.
Now, Atlanta, Philly at Atlanta, that's a series.
Either one of them could win that.
Neither one of them could beat the Dodgers.
Either one of them could beat Milwaukee.
They can.
Either one of them.
Yeah, it's a better league.
And you know what?
The history of it, I hate these two franchises.
I really don't because I like watching them.
I just don't want to admit it to you.
Boston at New York.
Of course.
Starting a Yankee Stadium.
Of course.
history of I don't have a horse in the race.
I don't care about their pitching matchups.
It's just it's the Red So it's the Red Sox and the Yankees and I can revel in that.
So those are the two series.
Don't tell me about the White Sox and the Astros, Redux from 2005 World Series.
I don't care about it.
Most of those series I don't care about those two, I do.
So this makes me very happy because the winner in this is I-95.
I knew you're out, I am.
Which makes you crazy because you hate I-95.
The fact of the matter is that the greatest playoff series of all time in baseball was the Yankees and the Red Sox.
It's the only time in the United States.
baseball that a team came back from 03 and won the World Series.
And it's a very special moment when the Red Sox and the Yankees.
I just gave you that.
No, I just want to rub it in a little bit.
Now I'll tell you something else.
They're also the second and third best teams in the American League.
And I don't think they should play in the first round.
I don't.
We've talked about that.
I think that should be stacked differently.
I also like, one of us is waiting around on Tampa to see them appear.
I like the Phillies at Atlanta for a bunch of...
The Phillies are limping into this.
I think they're 9 and 15 lately.
And they just threw Wheeler in order to get into the wild card so they don't have him.
So Christopher Sanchez, is he supposed to pitch games one and two?
Because he's not Sandy Alcantra.
There's a team you refused to mention that I believe finished the season 20 and three.
I thought I was leaving that to you.
I was going to stop testing you.
You're in love with them.
You have thrown over everyone for the Padres.
You've thrown over the Dodgers.
I want to see Padres Dodgers.
Except the Cubs.
Except you think the Padres will win.
And the one thing that we agree upon is.
What?
Is Houston and the White Sox?
There's no selling.
You just got to watch your Den Albury is.
Let's take a break.
Still to come.
Florida ran all over.
Fourth ranked, Ole Miss.
But that was college, was that college football's most compelling result of the weekend?
And what should we take from Team USA's win the President's Cup?
Your emails next.
There's this great moment a couple of weeks ago where a Cooney Jr.
hits a walk-off home run in Philadelphia and then comes out for a curtain call.
They hate him.
I wish some of those games were in Philadelphia
because that would be fun to sit.
Acuna is a great player.

What was the most compelling result of the college football weekend?
Tony, there were a ton.
There were a ton of great games.
This was the first great Saturday of the college football season.
I think this Saturday will follow up as a nice encore to that.
I did not care, sorry, Sarah, about Texas beating Tennessee.
I just, not into it too much orange, whatever the case may be.
I didn't care about that.
Ole Miss was predictable they were going to get knocked off your season.
You said this, you called it on Friday.
You said they played their Super Bowl.
They did, and they were emotionally exhausted.
Totally with you.
I got two games.
I know you watched a lot of stuff, too.
Iowa over Michigan.
The way that Iowa won that game,
throwing the ball a couple of major passes,
there's karma involved with Michigan.
There should be like one and two
and like in the duster right now,
get them out of here.
And USC putting, they put a real 75,000 plus
into the Coliseum on Saturday,
and they played Oregon, and Oregon makes a trip south.
They lose their quarterback to just a violent hit,
and they wind up with a totally illegal violent hit.
A awful hit.
And they win that game.
You've got to give Lansing some credit for that.
That U.S.
No?
No, no, no, no, no.
That USC Oregon game isn't a big result?
I agree with that.
My first take on that is when is Lincoln Riley going to win a big game?
When is he going to do that?
I was trying to give Oregon some credit.
I'm giving Oregon credit.
Okay.
But you make it seem like, I know they lost their quarterback to a vicious hit,
an illegal hit.
They had a guy on the bench who started for two years at Nebraska.
But he wasn't great there.
But he was great in this game.
He was.
He was great in this game.
So I agree with you on the shape of the weekend.
And I agree.
See, I would put the old miss thing first just because Florida scored 52 points.
Florida might actually be, Florida may actually be good.
They haven't been good in a while.
I disagree on the Texas Tennessee game.
It wasn't too much orange for me.
Those are the games that Texas has been losing lately.
Yes.
And they did not lose the game,
although they tried to lose the game
because they didn't cover the kick.
You have to cover the kick, right?
Do you think they are worthy right now
of the number one ranking in America?
Because we got 10 weeks to go.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
They're worthy of it right.
At this moment, did I have another one to do?
No, I'm reading it.
No, that's all.
Oh, yeah, karma is the right word, by it.
Karma for missions, right?
Yeah, karma.
What should we take?
And I know you watched a lot of this,
so not as much as me.
From the U.S. team's win at Medina, President's Cup.
So I watched a tremendous amount of this.
I surprised myself over four days how much I watched.
One reason.
Because it was the first one that was ever close.
Yes.
The first President's Cup that ever seemed close.
I think what happened was that on the last day,
at the end of the rounds on the last day yesterday,
The internationals were not making the puts
that they made the first three days.
I'm talking about 15, 16, and 17
in that area. And we are able
to win the United States because
our pattern to win is to win the singles
in everything, Rider Cup as well,
win the singles. So we won nine and a half
to two and a half in the singles, which
was a big deal. Golf is an individual
game. It's not a team game. Team competitions
are great, but if you give the Americans
an individual match head-on-head,
they're going to win that most of the time.
Sunday. So, and I enjoyed
all of it. I thought it was great. I would say that the
MVP for the U.S. team were
Godderup and Cameron Young. Goddard
would just making 40-foot bombs.
Bombs. Right. And the other thing I would say,
and I need to ask you about this, I assume
your answer. It was in Medina.
It's in Chicago. It's in the
Midwest. So when the
internationals hit a ball and people scream,
get in the water, I assume that's not
Midwesterns. I assume they imported New Yorkers
for that, right? New Yorkers had to do that.
We saw Scotty Schaeffler's great example of
old-fashioned sportsmanship.
And I hope that did.
I don't want that to come from anywhere,
but it bothered me like it bothered you.
We talked about this.
What my takeaway is that it reminds me of basketball,
global basketball,
that the rest of the world is gaining.
Catching up.
Right?
This used to be, you know, the President's Cup,
because we followed this for decades.
It used to be about South Africa and Australia
trying to put together a team to beat the U.S.
And now it's Japan and South Korea.
It's all.
And Latin America as well, South Korea.
Yes.
And so they keep inching closer and closer.
This was supposed to be a walkover.
This was supposed to be a non-contest.
Because it always has been.
We wound up on Saturday hanging on to every swing because they made it so.
I'll tell you something else over the weekend.
Good for them.
Over the weekend, a group of people that I talked to, disparate, not in the same spot.
Every one of them said this.
I kind of sort of want the internationals to win.
They became the darlings after a while because it was close.
Enough female.
Let's take one last break.
Still to come, the Vikings say see it tonight quarterback of the future.
That's your favorite guy, right?
What did I tell you about this?
Do you boy?
Will the wounded bears, my bears, roar or whimper tonight, Eagles.
Don't you love him and don't you also love Munkin?
No.
No.
I thought Munkin was your boy.
J.J. McCarthy, Chicago Kid.
Yeah, he's acted like a jerk.
Why do you hate him?
Because he's acted like a jerk.
What has he done?
He's acted like a jerk.
When?
I got examples.

Happy 17th birthday, Kevin Sullivan.
Sullivan became the youngest player to start a game for the United States men's national soccer.
team since Freddie Adieu, your boy did it in 2006, when he started against Peru in a friendly
on Saturday. Sullivan plays for the Philadelphia Union in the MLS, where in his last eight league
games, he's had six goals and eight assists. Earlier this week, USMNT coach Maricio Pochitino
acknowledged that he had to be, quote, careful how he managed a young attacker. Sullivan said
of starting against Peru, quote, I've dreamed of this day my entire life, unquote. Sullivan was
born in Philadelphia, and his entire
life began after Barack Obama
was inaugurated president.
Which is true, Tony, but he's something of a phenom, so
Prochitino does have to be careful.
In that lineup, the other lineup, you know, I included a ton of youngsters,
including other teenagers. Good for him
to figure out, start to. What do we
got here? What's next? That's right. What's next?
Happy anniversary, Joe Cap, this is
posthumous, but on this day, 57 years ago, the veteran
Vikings quarterback, who spent the bulk of his
pro career in the Canadian Football League
through seven touchdown passes for 52 to 14 drubbing of the Baltimore Colts,
tying the NFL single game record.
Seven is still the record, now shared by eight quarterbacks,
most recently Drew Breeze in 2015.
Cap led the Vikings to the Super Bowl that year,
where they lost to Kansas City.
Previously, Cap had led Cal Berkeley to their last Rose Bowl.
Way back on New Year's Day in 1959,
then took the British Columbia Lions to two Grey Cups,
and even later, coached Cal during the play.
where the Stanford band infamously went on to the field.
I'm going to go historical on you to say.
We're going to go past Bert Jones that day
to who was coaching, Queen quarterback for the Colts.
Johnny U.
John Unitas and Earl Moore.
Yeah, the best backup of all time.
How about that?
Yeah, he's the Johnny Unitas, I think, is the greatest.
I'm not going to argue all time.
Happy Trails, J.J. McCarthy, you boy.
Yeah.
The Vikings unloaded McCarthy onto the Giants today for a fifth round pit.
Get out.
This is quite the devaluation for McCarthy,
who the Vikings took just two years ago.
with the 10th overall selection in the draft.
Way too high.
But the Vikings are 3-0 with Kyla Murray and Carson-Wense,
and the Giants need a backup for James Winston,
now that Jackson Dart is out for the regular season.
McCarthy won a national title under Jim Harbaugh at Michigan.
Now he gets to play for John Harbaugh.
Also, the Giants lost star pass-rusher Brian Burns yesterday
is what the team fears is a torn ACL.
We'd be more critical than a lot of shows in this network.
I don't believe in either of the two new celebrated young quarterbacks
the Giants have, neither of them.
Let's see, maybe they'll be pretty good.
But the star prediction seems a little out of control to me.
One-O mission, Baker Mayfield will miss three weeks with a dislocated thumb on his throwing hand.
I hate to hear that.
Let's go to the big finish.
Let's do it.
The Liberty upset the links in Minnesota on Sunday.
Is that a big deal?
The links are now down to having to win their next game.
And so are the Caitlin Clarks.
They got to win their next game.
Two of three in the W.
The Mariners fired Dan Wilson as manager.
You're surprised.
I am. They went to the ALCS last year, right? They took it to the limit with Toronto.
You don't get two years out of that?
Steph Curry and the Warriors agreed on a two-year $116 million extension. Is that reasonable?
That's a good night night. Yes, it was always going to happen. I don't know what people were getting all crazed about.
Justin Verlander struck out six over five and a third in the final start of his career. Your thoughts?
The moment when they came to take him out, when they brought out his daughter and his wife as well and everybody hugged on the mound.
He walked off and the way.
It was a...
Just great.
Just a fabulous moment.
Last one, Monday night football, Eagles and your Bears tonight.
You got the clicker or just this hat?
Yeah, no, I got the hat.
I don't need a clicker.
You think I'm going to turn off the Eagles and the Bears?
I don't know.
Only if he gets out of control.
No, Caleb, I'm a little worried.
Just a little worried or you're very worried?
Very much.
Earlier today you had to come.
There's dogs in being out completely.
We are out of time.
We'll try to do better the next time.
Brandon McNulty shout out.
