Starting point is 00:00:00 And we're going to ask the opinion of Maggie Robinson now here, intern Maggie, former producer with the national football league. Welcome. Welcome, Maggie. Great to see you again. How about you start us off with, uh, given your take, you've heard from all the fans in the comments section, you've heard from me for the last hour. I've been going off about this. So, uh, what do you think?
Starting point is 00:00:26 Jai Alexander or no, uh, I'm off on Jai Alexander. I'll be so honest with you. I'm, I'm not on that train. I'm on the jail and Ramsey train. If we're taking one, I think we already summed it up, but to say it succinctly, the guy's been injured too many times. He is expensive. He has a poor attitude. The coin toss thing was bizarre. I think that came out of nowhere and was like a really weird, like, what even made you think that you could walk onto the field with that attitude and just demand that? That's confusing. I just don't think it's worth the hassle. I think I've brought this up before, but the
Starting point is 00:01:00 thing I can relate it back to is the Shador Sanders attitude issue of a lot of teams passing on him because they heard bad things through the grapevine. I think the NFL world, as we all know, is extremely small. And the GMs and the people who are making these decisions, they all talk and they all read the same things we do. They know about this more in depth than even the media does. I don't think it's really worth it. And judging by the way that the Vikings have built their team and the culture that they have, I don't think even the culture piece of it is worth it to them. I think that's probably a sticker. I just think the way that they've built up that locker room, I think I say this every time, but it's really impressive
Starting point is 00:01:38 when you look at other teams. They have such good character guys in there, and it is really tough when you have someone who's kind of iffy and who's coming in late. The fact that he's missing some of these OTAs, that he hasn't really jived with the players. He's had this beef with Justin Jefferson. It's just it's kind of a shot in the dark and you don't know. And I don't know if the Vikings need to risk it.
Starting point is 00:02:01 I don't think they have that kind of desperation right now to risk it on him. So I'm off on him. If he was coming from a really bad culture team, like the Bears or the Raiders or something, then you could look at him and go, all right, I get it. You're gonna be happy here. You're gonna be really competing for a Super Bowl here.
Starting point is 00:02:20 But the entire time he was with the Green Bay Packers, they were good and they were competing. And there was never a year while he was a packer that they just totally fell apart. Like they were even in the race in 2023 when they missed the playoffs in the last day of the season to the Detroit Lions. And then since then, I mean, they have that breakout second half of the year in 2023, right? No.
Starting point is 00:02:44 Okay. I got my years wrong. 2022 is when they barely missed the playoffs. 23 is when they went into the playoffs and beat Dallas and then kind of blew the late lead there to San Francisco. And then last year they're in the playoffs again. So it's not like, Oh wow, he's coming from this disaster franchise. I can't think of any other packer either that we've really heard this from. So again, it's not like, oh, Chicago where, yeah, I mean, the entire universe knew how bad it was with Matt Eberfluss, but it's not like you can even go back through and see
Starting point is 00:03:16 subtle jabs at, you know, Matt LaFleur or anything like that. They seem to be like, okay, okay. I will say they have had a little bit of an issue with Jayden Reed about like where his role is going to be and some of the wide receivers. But aside from that, I just don't think that that has been an issue with the Green Bay Packers. If everybody else is mostly fine, it's probably a you thing. And if it's a you thing, do you really think that it's going to be different here just because hey, our culture is really good.
Starting point is 00:03:46 I think what I need to know in order to be more informed is just what was the specific that you had. And he's never really said that as far as I know, if someone has an article with that, let me know. But I've never seen him really break it down. It's just been like, don't really want to play injured all the time. And then the coin flip thing was, I guess it just sort of bubbling over. Yeah. I mean, I can't blame the guy for not wanting to be up there in the cold, but like, is Minnesota going to be that much better for you if the cold is the issue? No. So I'm out on him.
Starting point is 00:04:19 Jalen Ramsey, if it happens, it happens. That'd be a big dub and a win for the Vikings, but we can pass on Jer, Jer Alexander. Okay, very good. Now I gave you the homework assignment of that's your first hot take of the evening to put together hot takes based on the things that are in the news this week. And it was not the craziest news week in the NFL, but there was some notable movement. Now we got OTAs and mini camps happening that stuff is moving and shaking a bit. So here's some headlines. Give me your hottest takes on these headlines. So where do you want to begin with that? Okay. Well, I just want to say, as I was doing all this research, I had this realization
Starting point is 00:05:01 that off season football is like the best reality TV show ever, because there is so much overblown drama. There's all these big personalities arguing over money, either on the team front office side or the players with like big attitudes. You have the Stefan Diggs boat thing. You have pop culture weaved in there. You have players breaking up with teams and then signing with others. So I thought we're just going to get into some juicy hot takes and make this like a big reality show for the offseason. So to kick it off, my first hot take, Daniel Jones wins Comeback Player of the Year. Do you agree or disagree? Because Anthony Richardson, I think he's out pretty indefinitely is what they said with his shoulder injury. He's got a flaky attitude. Talk
Starting point is 00:05:42 about someone who doesn't want to play through an injury. He only played four games of his rookie season before it took him out. Last season he missed two games. He tapped out and poor Joe Flacco had to get yanked off the bench mid-map. Like I don't know. I don't think he's playing. So I would love to see Danny Dimes step into that role. Joe Burrow had it last year, but it was more of an injury kind of comeback player of the year.
Starting point is 00:06:06 Let's give it to someone who actually deserves a full blown comeback player of the year. That has always been a weird thing for me, the comeback player of the year, like Joe Flacco winning it over Demar Hamlin, who came back from actual death and played. That was a really strange decision. But so I've never understood how we really do that
Starting point is 00:06:27 because some players have won it coming back from just being bad or just being on the bench. How does that make any sense? Like, and that would be kind of Daniel Jones. Like you're just coming back from being bad but they do give this award to people who came back from being bad. So I think it's very possible that he wins it.
Starting point is 00:06:46 I think what happens with Daniel Jones, if he plays for the Indianapolis Colts is that they win four games and they fire their coach mid season. I know RIP, Jim or say, and they're going through an ownership thing there. So that might be tricky to make a move after this year though, I could see them just blowing out everybody really starting a new moving on from Anthony Richardson, Anthony Richardson. You are a Minnesota Vikings backup quarterback.
Starting point is 00:07:14 And I do know, I mean, for a fact that Kevin O'Connell really liked Anthony Richardson coming out and it was revealed there when they had their moment after the game where he got benched and KOC went to Anthony Richardson and said, you know, stick with it and keep on working and everything. I think Anthony Richardson has Gino Smith and Sam Darnold written all over him. Right. I mean, because he needs to be a backup quarterback. He never really got a true opportunity to be healthy and develop.
Starting point is 00:07:44 And they just got excited about their new toy. Well, look how big and athletic he is. Let's just throw him into the mix when everybody said this guy probably needs two years before he should start get hurt, can't develop. And yeah, what happened last year, but what happened last year is also a product of him not being a pro quarterback yet, not being mature yet. Many quarterbacks have gone from struggling early to showing up later at some point. And I think that he's got that trajectory in him.
Starting point is 00:08:14 But that franchise in general, I think is in so much peril. They lost half their offensive line to the Minnesota Vikings. Their running back is not young. Their receivers don't impress me. Their defense isn't that good. What an AFC South team they are. It just, and their coach is not to me all that impressive either.
Starting point is 00:08:32 So they've got, they've got four and 13, Daniel Jones struggles, but they may be benching for Richardson back healthy halfway through the year. I just, and with Daniel Jones, we gave him a lot of credit as a quarterback who's pretty good. He's had a million injuries too.
Starting point is 00:08:49 And I think he's like three and 13 in his last 16 starts. And yeah, I know it's the Giants, but that's really bad. I'm not all that confident on anything with the Indianapolis Colts. So I think your hot take is certainly possible if he got them into the playoff race, like Gardner Minshew did a couple years ago. I'm just not buying that situation at all though.
Starting point is 00:09:11 That's very fair. I am pro Gardner Minshew. That guy's quirky and I love it, but I don't think Daniel Jones, I think I have to disagree with his own hot take. I just thought it was a funny one to throw out there. Peter Strayer said this on Get Up on ESPN this morning. And I was like, okay, Peter, you move over to a giant network and now here you are becoming one
Starting point is 00:09:29 of them. But yeah, I don't think this is happening, but it's a fun thing to toss around and think about another one to toss around and think about Aaron Rogers, our guy, everyone's sick of him, but I'm going to bring him back up because here's my hot take. Aaron Rogers is going to go five and two through the first eight weeks of the season and then it's gonna have a midseason Crashout after the Green Bay game because that's only fitting He's opening up against the New York Jets. I Think that's a game. They should win. Is it gonna be really cinematic?
Starting point is 00:09:58 Did the schedule makers do a great job in all of this? Yes. Awesome It's gonna be great TV If we don't get a good shot of him running out of the tunnel with another American flag or a Pittsburgh flag. I'm going to be mad. But I just don't think here's the deal. A lot of people are comparing Aaron Rodgers to Tom Brady when he was like, oh, I'm retiring. Oh, I'm back. Oh, Super Bowl. They're not comparable players in my mind at this very point because the success that Aaron Rodgers had was so much earlier in his career and it wasn't as sustained.
Starting point is 00:10:29 Tom Brady won seven Super Bowls. Aaron Rodgers has won one. Aaron Rodgers also, again, this is just what the media and we see as consumers. He doesn't look like he's so dialed in in the way that Tom Brady was. This man was willing to ruin his entire marriage to keep playing the game of football. Aaron Rodgers was going to Egypt last year to miss OTAs just to explore the world, which is awesome. Do your ayahuasca, go to your dark caves, do your thing. But if winning is what you want to do, TB12 is doing his thing. He has his method. I don't think you can compare them. I just think Aaron Rodgers has gotten too old. His age is going to catch up to him. His history of injury is going to catch up to him. You just don't play with the same level of spryness and springiness and ability to shift and move when you're what? 41, 42 in December. This man has been playing football
Starting point is 00:11:21 since I was three years old to put that in context. I'm sorry. No. And even Tom Brady looked pretty darn unhappy by the end of that season. I mean, he had his moments in that year where it was very clear that he was just not the same Tom Brady because the age thing does come for everybody at some point. And with Rogers, it really looks like it last year when he played against the Vikings that man looked like he wanted to be anywhere else and Brian Flores is defense does have a tendency to do that but it just looks so miserable like everybody who made any sort of mistake on the field 11 guys at once if anybody had a mistake or at least even he perceived that because to him, if you weren't thinking what he was thinking on a play, you made a mistake regardless of how the play is supposed to work. That's also clear from the way he operates as well, but he just seems so disgusted by every moment that didn't go
Starting point is 00:12:18 right. And he also looked physically pretty washed as well. He isn't as strong as he used to be. And probably all the weird stuff he's done to his body is played into it. He looked old last year he could still stand there and sling it maybe for the Olympics where they're doing seven on seven that Aaron Rogers should be their quarterback but he had great escape ability and that was another difference with him and Brady. Brady was always a pocket guy but Rogers was like Mahomes at his best. He was moving all over the place and making crazy throws. He can't do that anymore. But I think you're, I think you're a hot take. I agree with it. I think he will start out pretty well next year. And thankfully for him, for the Steelers, he joined during mini camp. Wow. Honoring the Steelers franchise with his presence during mini camp. So put out having to fly across the country, but they're so lucky to have you, Aaron. I think they have a good chance to start out well and will fade and then it will be the same
Starting point is 00:13:17 old drama that it always is. And maybe Tomlin can eke them out into a playoff berth, but I'm not even sure about that because the AFC has enough serious contenders. The Raiders are going to be better. I think the Broncos will be back in the mix there. There's enough teams that are seriously contending. The Ravens should be great. The Bengals should be better than they were last year. The Bills, I think, are already penciled in to win that division.
Starting point is 00:13:43 It's going to be pretty tough for Pittsburgh to still be in the mix and it just feels like they'll end up with eight, nine, nine and a best case scenario, 10 and seven, where they win some games that they grind out with their defense as always. And we were trying to decide what's your opinion on this. Is it much worse for the Vikings that Rogers is going to be the quarterback against them when they go over to Ireland versus Mason Rudolph or not? I mean, I think you should say like the obvious answer should be, oh my gosh, of course, it's way better to have Rogers. But then you look at how Rudolph played the last time he was with Pittsburgh. Like maybe not. I mean, at least he's younger and still in good shape.

It was the age thing of Mason Rudolph. Talk about the jet lag and feeling fresh and being able to play. Age is a real thing there. You want to step off the plane. You take like a day or whatever your day of practice. You run around on the plane, you take like a day or whatever, your day of practice,
Starting point is 00:16:05 you run around on the field, you feel better. I don't think Aaron Rodgers is feeling that good when he steps off that plane. I don't care if it's private or not. I just don't see that happening. And I also would like to highlight that the Steelers have tried this before and failed with Russell Wilson and with Big Ben.
Starting point is 00:16:23 What are we doing for a third time? I feel like the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over again, but expecting a different outcome. And that's currently where they are. It feels like a desperation move in my mind of just like. What do we do? Yes, you're awesome. Big name here. Great one year.
Starting point is 00:16:42 Thank you. What I don't get is why they weren't at the top of the Sam Darnold list, because if they're going to throw the ball down the field to DK Metcalf and they want to get into this competition in the playoffs and really want to be able to win a game. And I know all the Vikings fans could be like, good Darnold melted down. But I mean, Darnold was so wildly better than Aaron Rogers as a quarterback last year that if anybody is going to give you that chance to go in with a top notch defense,
Starting point is 00:17:10 get a hot performance from Sam Darnold and win a game and upset somebody or something in the postseason, it should have been him. At at very least he would give them a chance to solidify that quarterback position over a couple years to get the franchise back on track. Whereas, okay, let's say Aaron Rodgers goes 10 and seven, get some of the playoffs, they get punched in the face again by someone who matters. And then then what you just spent another, that's how I felt about them last year.
Starting point is 00:17:37 At very least with Justin Fields, they could have continued to try to find out if there was something there for a future quarterback. And instead, now we're going to bench fields, we're going to go to find out if there was something there for a future quarterback. And instead now we're going to bench fields. We're going to go to Wilson, going to have a couple of moments that were kind of fun. And ultimately it's the same result as they had when they were playing Mason Rudolph or duck Hodges or Kenny Pickett or very, very, very old Ben Roethlisberger. It is,
Starting point is 00:18:00 I think it's one of the worst, if not the worst circle of hell in pro sports to be stuck in the middle. If you are terrible, you're drafting high and draft night is amazing and there's always that great quarterback around the corner. And if you are in the playoffs going deep, obviously that's what you play for. If you and the Vikings were there for a few years, it was miserable because you'd go into every season being like, yeah, I don't know. I mean, it could, right. And then the fans would be like, Oh, maybe if 1800 things go right at the same time, like really, I mean, how often does that really, there are AFC teams that have Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, and you're supposed to win.
Starting point is 00:18:42 I just, it's very hard to see. Yeah. Agreed. Agreed. It feels like the world's worst bandaid over a giant wound. Um, let's move on to Baltimore. We're talking about the Ravens, talking about Lamar Alexander. Let's talk about Derek Henry. My hot take is that Derek Henry will be in an Adam Sandler movie next year. And let me give you some context for those of you who did not hear and are like, Maggie, what the heck are you talking about? It came out on the Dan Patrick podcast that Derek Henry is a huge Adam Sandler fan. Love that for him. I've never seen that man show personality, to be honest with you. So to hear that come out of Derek Henry's mouth, I was like, yeah, all right. Anyway,
Starting point is 00:19:19 they said if Derek Henry gets 2000 rushing yards, then he will get a role in an Adam Taylor movie and a dinner with Adam himself. Saw this on like a little cameo video that Adam shot. It will this happen? Will he be the only person in NFL history to pass 2000 yards twice? Or is this just way overblown and not happening and he's too old?
Starting point is 00:19:41 Okay, so I have some questions. Well, you're supposed to give your opinion on that because you're the hot take artist of the evening, but I do have follow ups on this. One would be, why can't he just get together with Derek Henry for dinner anyway? I mean, they're both celebrities and very rich and why don't you just have dinner with him anyway?
Starting point is 00:19:57 He could also put him in a movie anytime he wants. It sounds like he must have him on his fantasy team and is trying to add a little motivation. How relevant though to you, there's a somewhat of an age gap here between us is Adam Sandler because when I'm growing up, Adam Sandler is the premier comedian who was just dropping one banger after the next with great movies. Happy Gilmore was one of the best comedies to me ever. I introduced my wife to Billy Madison the other day and I think she laughed maybe two or three times,
Starting point is 00:20:31 but me being still juvenile enjoyed that. And then it just disappeared. It went off the face of the earth. Is he still someone that is relevant in the celebrity world to you? So listen, yes, but not in the way of, can I name you an actual Adam Sandler movie that I've sat through and watched the entire thing? No, I have not watched all of happy Gilmore.
Starting point is 00:20:55 Is that maybe a knock on me? Potentially. The way I, and I think a lot of people in my generation know Adam Sandler is as a meme. It's this guy walking on the streets of New York, going wherever to any meeting or anything in the world's baggiest basketball shorts, a shirt that is like a triple XL and he's just looking like a loaf walking around and everyone's like, oh, it's Adam Sandler's summer. And it's just you popping out with your like AAU basketball shorts and your brother's oversized shirt. So that's how I know Adam Sandler is kind of a walking meme, not necessarily for his full comedic talent as an actor.
Starting point is 00:21:32 Well, and he did some serious movies. He did, uh, uncut gems with Kevin Garnett. Okay. Maybe I have sat through a whole movie. I did watch that movie. Okay. At least you've seen one, but I, he's more of a, a, there are just people that if you are millennial, are huge names to you that nobody under the age of 30 cares about at all. And I think Adam Sandler is one of them, although I would highly, highly suggest watching Happy Gilmore. There's no generational gap in terms of how funny Happy Gilmore is. He's making a Happy Gilmore 2 for Netflix or whatever it's follow up, which is just a sheer money grab to appease all of us who wanted another
Starting point is 00:22:13 Happy Gilmore movie, I guess. But even watching the trailer, I was like, you know what, I'm going to watch this, but this looks absolutely atrocious. Uh, the question is though, is Derek Henry going to get 2000 yards? Yep. And is he going to get into an Adam Sandler movie? I don't think so, because it's just so hard to do. I've looked back at all the 2000 yard rushers and every single one of them dropped off significantly in yards per carry the following season, even for a guy with Derek Henry's girth and strength. It's just so difficult to do when you put that much strain on your body and you
Starting point is 00:22:52 look at Adrian Peterson, who was younger and just as freakish as Derek Henry. And he went down from six yards of carry to four and a half the following season, which is still a good number at the time for carrying your team. The same thing happened for Chris Johnson over 2,000 yards. The same thing happened for Jamal Lewis over 2,000 yards. There isn't anybody, even Barry Sanders, the great all time goat, Barry Sanders,
Starting point is 00:23:18 6.1 yards per carry down to, I think it was 4.3 the following year after 2,000 yards and then he retired. I mean, it's a lot of strain on the body. So I don't expect that that's going to happen. But there is something very real about having a running quarterback making life easier for running backs that I don't exactly fully understand why it is. I think it's just that you always have to have so much attention on Lamar or Jaylen hurts that it adds a new element, but I'm also not quite as sold on their offensive line as maybe I have been in the past. So I'm going to say no,
Starting point is 00:23:52 that he does not get there and it'll be a little bit on the disappointing side, but it'll probably still be really good. Yeah, I agree with that. I think he will be up there still with high numbers, high rushing yards, but 2000 is just just, that's hard to get to. That's, it's a thing that hasn't been broken for a reason. So I don't think this is the year that he breaks it, but I do love that as something in the back of his head, thinking of him suiting up, putting his helmet on,
Starting point is 00:24:18 being like, oh yeah, man, this is it. It's not like a money bonus. It's not a signing anything. No, it's a role in an Adam Sandler movie. So maybe when we turn on Netflix this time next year, he will have a small cameo. I think not. Let's move to Houston. Nick Chubb just signed a one year deal. My hot take is that the Texans will win their third consecutive AFC South title and make it to the AFC championship, but they will inevitably get blown up there.
Starting point is 00:24:44 But hey, they made it, you know? Wow, you went far down the road with that. You're gonna have to explain this hot take because I'm not sure I'm quite there with you because well, they did add receivers. So there is that. And I think that they did a good job in the draft of basically saying, we just need Iowa State receivers
Starting point is 00:25:04 on top of Iowa State receivers. But I mean they did a good job of going into the draft, getting wide receivers, adding was it Christian Kirk in the offseason as well who I think can still play for them and they might even bring in more at some point. But I'm not sure that that offensive line can hold up in the playoffs and I'm really not sure that Nick Chubb is going to bring anything to the table again. It is so difficult to come back once you've hit the rut as a running back. Once you fall off that cliff, I have trouble thinking of too many guys who ever climbed back up after falling off of the cliff. And Chubb, he can tweet out as many workout videos
Starting point is 00:25:48 as he wants. We all know you're jacked. We all know how crazy tough he is, but running back is often, unless it's, you know, Derek Henry, but even with him, it's often about the burst. It's about hitting holes super fast. It's about changing directions super quick.
Starting point is 00:26:04 And after the injury that Nick Chubb had, the age, the workload was crazy when he was in Cleveland with their lack of good quarterback play. I don't know how much he's going to add. I know that wasn't really your point. I think there's still just a little bit short on the offensive line to go all the way through the playoffs and losing Laramie Tunsel gaining Ed Ingram from the Vikings is not an upgrade in any way either. But the one argument you might have is that their defense is pretty nasty. Their defense is really, really nasty on the D line and Stingley has become one of the top players in the league. So, and Stroud did get them a playoff win and to the point where they were with
Starting point is 00:26:46 probably a year that'll end up being the worst year of his career last season. It's just new offensive coordinator. Can they really fix that offensive line? And how much was the offensive coordinator last year? I guess is another question. I don't mind it. I don't mind it because I think that they should cruise to winning that division. But I just think somebody's going to get in their way the same way with like the chargers or what happened with the Texans last year. If you don't have the line, someone's just going to blow you up and win the game. Totally. To be honest, this was my most out there take where I was writing it up and I
Starting point is 00:27:17 was like, all right, sure. Added in. Here we go. Let's see if we can argue this. I okay. So Nick Chubb. yes, he blew up his knee, but I don't think he was on a good team that really allowed him to be at his full potential. So a lot of this take is my projection of what he could be on a better team with
Starting point is 00:27:39 a great quarterback who's stepping into his own really has the confidence. There seems to be a good energy around Houston. They do have a good D line. They have some newness with their offensive coordinator. Do I honestly think this is realistic? No, I don't think they're making it to the AFC championship. I think they could win their third consecutive AFC South. It's the AFC South. It's not good, but no, I'm going to have to disagree with my own take here.
Starting point is 00:28:06 And it's pretty far out. But I just wanted to bat it around and see what happened. It was the homework assignment to come up with a hot take based on these news items because Nick Chubb signing somewhere for a small contract isn't the most exciting thing in the world. I will be I will be really interested, though, to see where Stroud goes, because last year, I mean, we all decided when he was a rookie, like,
Starting point is 00:28:27 Hey, this is the next great quarterback. But if you look at under a microscope at his season, it was pretty terrible. And usually you don't go from a guy as an offensive coordinator, Bobby Sulek, who was being discussed as a next head coaching candidate to fired the following season, like that's how ugly it got. And I just want to understand their strategy of building an offensive line.
Starting point is 00:28:51 It sounds like Tunsel was very unhappy. So, okay. He ends up going to Washington in a trade, but their ideas for replacing him and the rest of that old line were just not impressive. So I'm, if they do a good job there, okay, with Chubb, maybe he could succeed or succeed and hey, maybe the Stroud gets it back. But he's not like the type of playmaker who can just magically poof, make all the problems go disappear.
Starting point is 00:29:19 He has to be a guy who's throwing from the pocket and it was a horrible pocket last year. But could they get into the playoffs and win with some defense, though, and win that division? I feel like that's the most foregone conclusion. If we were talking about things that we are super sure about right now. I mean, the Texans winning the division probably has to be one of them unless somebody else has an argument. Which I don't from this research.
Starting point is 00:29:44 Absolutely none. I will say if we want to stay in the division, Tennessee, Cam Ward, my hot take is that maybe it's not that hot, but for the Titans, anything good feels like a hot take. Cam Ward is leading the Titans to a winning season this year. They won't lose every no, they won't lose every single game. It feels like I just think they have Tony Pollard. They got Calvin Ridley. I'm big on Xavier Restrepo. You got that Miami to Miami connection.
Starting point is 00:30:11 JC Latham is good. What may, okay. If not, we could also amend this. If not a winning season, a, a there's no spicy way to say this. like a less losing season, like a better season. Let's just call it that. Kim Ward is leading the Titans to a better season this year. ["Tempo Meals"] Folks, I'm trying a new thing in order to stop going to fast food restaurants all the time with my busy schedule.
Starting point is 00:30:42 It is called Tempo Meals. Tempo is a weekly delivery service that delivers chef crafted meals from a dietitian approved menu fresh to your door. They're perfectly portioned lunches and dinners, take all the guesswork out of eating as well, they are fully prepared and can be heated up in the microwave in just three minutes. A couple of meals that I've got coming my way this week are the sweet and sour meatballs, the honey glaze pork chop,
Starting point is 00:31:10 and the tender Chipotle sirloin. Those are just my choices though. There are dozens and dozens of options and I figured it all out in about five clicks. So for a limited time, Tempo is offering my listeners 60% off your first box go to TempoMeals.com slash Purple Insider that is TempoMeals.com slash Purple Insider for 60% off your first box TempoMeals.com slash Purple Insider rules and
Starting point is 00:31:40 restrictions apply. rules and restrictions apply. Well, they drafted number one, so a better season that that just took your take from hot to very cold. Very cold. Very cold. But the issue there, I don't think that they are all that well coached and their coach last year to, just kind of cracked under the pressure. There maybe wasn't anything you could really do with a Will Levis, but it got out of control bad to the point where you're drafting number one. Cam Ward is an experienced quarterback,
Starting point is 00:32:14 which we did see Bo Nix play pretty well with some experience. My issue is just the guys. I mean, when you're naming players for reasons that this could take a step forward and you named an undrafted free agent, like, I don't know, man. I don't know. I just like, I just have been seeing his name pop up and all these things because I know Kim Ward was like really on him when it was the draft process and was big on him. All the coaches like, you got to take this guy,
Starting point is 00:32:40 take a chance on him. If the Titans are the underdog of the season, Xavier Restrepo is the underdog of the Titans, which doesn't speak highly of him. But you know what? I'm pro underdog. We know this. So I think they're going to do better than they did last year. And I think they're going to rebuild. I think it's only up from here.
Starting point is 00:32:59 They've hit that they've hit rock bottom. Like you can only go up. You know what I'm saying? I think that's true. And they have invested in their offensive line. Their defense was not horrible last year. It gave the Vikings some problems. It's just that they could not score,
Starting point is 00:33:13 could not stop turning the ball over. I agree that they could be better. And Kevin Garnett once said, anything is possible. In the AFC South, anything truly is possible. I don't, I mean, even the Jaguars, would you be shocked if the Jaguars are an eight and nine or nine and eight type of team, or if they make the playoffs
Starting point is 00:33:32 just because the division is so bad. And then somehow they host the playoff game because the NFL didn't change those rules this year. And then everyone says, no, that's fine. That the terrible AFC South team hosted the playoffs. So if a if the Titans are hosting a playoff game as an eight nine division winner, then we can circle back on this blazing take. Speaking of the Jacksonville Jaguars, my next take is that Travis Hunter
Starting point is 00:33:59 will play both sides of the ball and will be a starter this season at wide receiver over Brian Thomas Jr. Do you agree or disagree? Or at least with Brian Thomas? Yeah, yeah. I don't think I've seen any real indications of what he's going to do other than both. I've seen highlights of him catching passes and I've also seen highlights of him intercepting passes. And as much as OTA highlights should be completely disregarded because you can't touch other players and you're not wearing pads, the interception that he had that the Jaguars put out,
Starting point is 00:34:34 I was like, okay, I'll make an exception for this. This is monstrous. I am sad for us that we don't get to see Travis Hunter play almost at all this year unless you are deep diving into NFL plus to replay Travis Hunter reps. I mean, I guess if you're doing that, but as far as national games, they're just not on them and they don't deserve to be. But as soon as he went there, it's like, okay, I guess I'll have to really check in
Starting point is 00:35:00 to see what he looked like. I, I believe you, I believe this hot take. I think they're really going to try it. Now, if you want to turn the temperature up, is it going to work? That's, that's really the question here. Cause I, it, I think they're going to try it. And I, it seems like he's going to play more wide receiver than corner. Yeah. At least that's what it looks like right now, but does this sustain for an entire
Starting point is 00:35:29 17 games? That was my question. And then just look for even further. Does this sustain for more than one season as the guy ages and develops as a player? Is this just a one-off thing of like, Hey, here's this really cool thing. It's big news. He can't maintain
Starting point is 00:35:45 it and he'll probably be a great wide receiver. But I just, it's such a up in the air question of will he be able to continue this dominance? I think so much of this is due to his freak athleticism, not to negate the fact that he's obviously a fantastic football player, but you don't get away with some of the stuff that he does and the plays that he makes without the insane ability that he has. Does that stay with you or is this the kind of thing where it's like the guy just kind of get away with being insanely talented and that only takes you so far and then that kind of fades and do you have the work ethic and are you putting in the time? Do you know your weaknesses? I don't know. There's a lot of open questions, but for this year, I think it'll be so fun to watch
Starting point is 00:36:27 if we can find him. Yeah, the question along those lines is, can he stay healthy is the biggest thing because this is just so many snaps and it's not like Shohei Otani. Shohei Otani, who by the way has been banged up, but Shohei Otani is playing baseball. This is not the same thing
Starting point is 00:36:43 where people are hitting you on both sides. It's also not college. I mean, the caliber of player who is running into you in the NFL and the speed. And I think that he could go about 80% on a lot of different situations in college and be fine. If you're playing some mediocre college whose top wide receiver runs a four eight, then okay, whatever, right? But you're not, you're playing some mediocre college who's top wide receiver runs a four eight, then okay,
Starting point is 00:37:05 whatever. Right. But you're not, you're playing NFL teams that every single week, all these guys were drafted as high as you who make huge money or the best in the world at this. That's a way different story. I think. And exert the exertion. I, you hear this from rookies all the time. Like they just didn't realize how much more effort goes into playing in the NFL, uh, then in college. So I don't know how well it's going to last. And my, I would suspect that they get to a point where they have to just decide you're going to go one way or the other. Like you're just going to have to go one way or the other. Um, there is a good point from dusty about wide receivers making more
Starting point is 00:37:44 money. And Brian is probably right that he's a better corner than he is a good point from dusty about wide receivers making more money. And Brian is probably right that he's a better corner than he is a wide receiver. So that, that could be tricky for him and them to figure out, because what you really don't want is a number three type of wide receiver who catches 25 passes and a number three type of corner who has to be out there and only nickel positions. And then did you really revolutionize football or did you just get like an average player on both sides rather than a great player? But if he does it, it will be one of the coolest things in sports that no one ever saw. I mean, it's, it is going to feel like when we talk
Starting point is 00:38:21 about, you know, when I was growing up watching Adam Sandler movies, and the only way to know who the players were sometimes was just if they were on the video game and rated high because you never saw them. Who played for the Seattle Seahawks when I was growing up? I don't know. The only way I knew was a couple of highlights and, you know, just seeing them in video games. And that feels like Travis Hunter. The only way we're going to know is just from people who screen capture Travis Hunter highlights and put them on social media.
Starting point is 00:38:52 And that's the only way we're really going to know. So that's that's disappointing. But I'm very, very curious about this. I don't know about the hot take that he's going to play on both sides and that he's going to play alongside of Brian Thomas and be like a real starter for them. But that's, it's probably a good place to begin considering that they need Trevor Lawrence to work. They have invested so much in him, the top pick, the,
Starting point is 00:39:17 the big contract, and they've done a very poor job of building around him. So this needs to happen. I feel like every year Jacksonville is one of those teams that at least like in I'm hearing about it kind of in the ecosystem like, oh, they could be great. And it's always they could be. And then they just kind of fizzle halfway through the season and you're stuck with, well, OK, I guess we have to look to next year now. And it's like week nine.
Starting point is 00:39:41 And you're like, well, shoot, here we are stuck with a full team and a bunch more games to go that don't really feel like they matter anymore. And all the hype kind of died down. I don't know, the one thing that keeps hopping into my head when I think about Jacksonville was them doing that little game where they were Toy Story characters, where we animated them and put them on a little Toy Story field. That was something my team worked on. And it was so cool to sit there with ESPN, um, and just like see all the iterations of making these guys shrink down into tiny players, but making like them still look like themselves on the field and then having all the Toy Story characters around them. This is a huge tangent, but just made me think about it. I did watch some of that and it looked like, yeah, I did.
Starting point is 00:40:24 It actually looked like it Oh yeah, I did. It did. It actually looked like it came out pretty well. And to your point, totally true. Two years ago was really their best chance with Trevor Lawrence. And then he got hurt. And it's a little bit in the same vein as the Anthony Richardson thing where Trevor Lawrence has just been so banged up over the years. We've only seen just little spurts of excellence and then back on the sideline or battling through an injury
Starting point is 00:40:48 that's hurting him. And I think it was 2023 where they started out, as you mentioned, maybe it was seven and two or something where it looked like Doug Peterson was taking them to another level. He gets banged up on that national TV game where they had to play CJ Beathard. And then it all kind of goes downhill from there.
Starting point is 00:41:04 And he's never quite reached that level. And that's where, when they make this decision of, do you put them at corner? Do you put them at wide receiver with Travis Hunter? I would be starting with, let's do everything we can to see if he could be a playmaker for our quarterback and then we'll see. And if that really doesn't work out, then all right, we know he's going to be a pretty good corner. That's kinda how I would approach it.
Starting point is 00:41:27 Yeah, this is also just all making me think, this is a complete tangent, but I gotta share it with you. So when I got drafted and had that viral video of me getting drafted, walking across the stage, I was fresh off a haircut. I'd just gotten the worst haircut of my life. It was like a really short bob. Anyway, that video went viral.
Starting point is 00:41:43 Everyone said I looked like Trevor Lawrence. I, Matthew, I, and viewers, I beg you, please look up Trevor Lawrence as a woman. There was some Instagram page that was doing all the NFL quarterbacks as women. I'm sure you're familiar with what I'm talking about. I will just say we don't look dissimilar, but that was a really humbling take. He's a beautiful man, but I don't know if I want that comp as a woman. That was crazy. I think I just need to move on.
Starting point is 00:42:10 But I did see the whatever app that was turning quarterbacks into what they would look like as women. But that is not a subject. I want to go much farther than that. So what else you got on something I found on the Internet that wasn't that was Bucky Brooks at NFL.com listed his top five biggest enigmas of the league. And enigma is something is kind of confounding confusing. You don't really know where to place it. And so I thought we'd go through and say, will they be hot or not this season
Starting point is 00:42:43 playing into this whole kind of offseason drama Vibe that we have going so to start us off Kyler murray former 2019 first round draft pick he's an insane athlete talk about someone who's like freakishly athletic Only player to my knowledge should be drafted at the mlb in the first round and the nfl He's the a's still have his rights by the way So if this whole football thing doesn't work out, the man can go play baseball and maybe he'll have a great career. I think he just had some, he had his injuries, he wasn't great, he didn't have a great team around him. Now he is Marvin Harrison Jr. I'm really pro him.
Starting point is 00:43:21 I just think he could be hot this season. He could break out of this average mold that he has obviously the Arizona Cardinals signed him for a lot of money They think he's still good, too But I understand that he's kind of floating in this middle realm of will he be good He's supposed to be better than he has been I'm sorry. I'm looking up Trevor Lawrence's woman And yeah, I can't find this. Is this it? Is this it?
Starting point is 00:43:49 Oh, no, that's just Trevor Lawrence. It's him in a well. The thing is, he does look pretty feminine with the long hair. We have the same hair. I think that's what it was. Yeah, I don't see it. Thank you. I hope you're not lying to me, but I'll take it.
Starting point is 00:44:03 No, I just don't think it's the same face. I just think it's a very different face. Anyway, I just, I had to take a look just to see is, is it there? But, uh, the chat is saying that, no, you don't look like Trevor Lawrence. Even well-meaned to look like a lady, but so Kyler Murray has always been, I mean, it's a perfect word, isn't an enigma, because in 2021, he looked like he was going to be MVP of the league through about 11 games.
Starting point is 00:44:36 And everybody blamed Cliff Kingsbury, and I'm sure Cliff last year was pointing at Jaden Daniels and saying, excuse me, I can call plays in the second half of the season. I can adjust an offense because we went to the NFC championship with Jaden Daniels. So maybe it was more of a Kyler Murray thing that he just has his limitations. And I think of him in the same way. I think of Caleb Williams right now and Caleb could prove this wrong, but when you always bank on home runs, there's going to be a lot of strikeouts and with Murray,
Starting point is 00:45:13 it feels like there's these great games and you go, wow, I can't believe this. Look at how great Kyler Murray was. And then the next week it's nine for 21 with an interception. And you just saw what happened. The other team contained him. He didn't hit on the deep shots. He loves to just launch the ball up to people downfield and it's very hard to execute an offense play in and play out just standing in the shotgun as a guy who's five foot seven or eight and you know one of the things that they did with Bryce Young last year
Starting point is 00:45:45 is they started putting him under center and running play action and getting him kind of booted out a little bit just to help him see down the field. And they did the same thing with Russell Wilson in Seattle. Everyone wanted Russ, oh, let Russ cook and all that stuff, let him throw more. The reason that they ran and ran play action was because he couldn't see the field that well,
Starting point is 00:46:04 that helped him boot out. It helped him, you know, get like launch points where he was not having to just stand in there and look over the line of scrimmage. But there's always limitations to that when you have to run it a certain way. So Russell Wilson is great when you have a great defense and a great running game, but it's not the same when you don't have those things. I also do think though that the Arizona Cardinals are intriguing this year as a team
Starting point is 00:46:29 that could actually compete for that division. They've really souped up their defense, which was very good. And if there's another step there from Marvin Harrison, then maybe they've got something, but I just, there are certain quarterbacks in the league. Jay Cutler was like this. They're just always gonna show you flashes that are so great.
Starting point is 00:46:49 You're like, wow, this guy is elite. And then the very next week, they're gonna disappoint you. I think Kyler is gonna be that way. Yeah, you know, I also am looking at my notes and I wrote, they have a quote, solidly average O line. Not great, not bad, solidly average. So I think that kind of sums up the Cardinals in my mind
Starting point is 00:47:07 They're solidly average where they could surprise you you don't actually know and someone did say you got to remember that Arizona What was almost last in every category of the player survey? You hate to see that as an organization They got a lot of loose ends. They got a tie up But I would love to see Kyler Murray break out of this middle ground. So he's a Nigma number one on our list. A Nigma number two, the one and only George Pickens. So with the Cowboys, I think he could be the perfect wide receiver one, right? She were two. He's with CD lamb. You got Dak Prescott, even though Dak, what hasn't been resigned to his contract extension, but he's tweeting like lovely things about the organization and he'll be there. So I think they're going, he's going to a team that is more pass heavy than Pittsburgh was. I think it's good to get off the
Starting point is 00:47:55 sinking ship that Aaron Rodgers is now driving. This could be good for George Pickens. I think this could be his breakout season. I know I'm using this for both players, but I think it applies. He's too good. And I think he just needs better people around him and a better atmosphere. And honestly, I see him on the Cowboys fitting in with their play. So wide receivers, I've always tried to figure this out. Like, why is it always wide receivers who seem like they're unhappy? And the best I could come up with is that they go outside with a
Starting point is 00:48:28 friend and have them hold the football and run 40 times, 20 yards down the field and have them throw it to you twice and see how that feels. Like you're going to be pretty ticked and every single time. So you don't know when they're going to throw you the ball. So every single time, like this might be the time and you're like, throw it, do it. No. Okay. Uh, I also think we don't give enough credit to how much mental and emotional strain goes into an NFL season that it breaks some people.
Starting point is 00:48:57 Like not everybody is built for this and Pickens seems like a guy who's not built for this. That would be my only concern with George Pickens is that if you are not built for emotional and mental problems that you have to come across in an NFL season, and I'm not talking about mental illness, I'm just talking about stress and strain and the pressure that goes along with it. The worst place to go is probably the Dallas Cowboys. Because if you go all in one and that franchise seems like it's always mired in some sort of drama, some sort of thing going on. And I think that the reason that the Dallas Cowboys always melt down the playoffs since the 90s is that that strain builds up and the pressure builds up week after week
Starting point is 00:49:46 after week after week. And eventually it just breaks them. And where it really showed up was when they played the Packers, the game Aaron Jones went crazy in the playoffs, they went three and out on their first drive and already CD Lamb and Dak Prescott were yelling at each other. Like, this is the first drive of the game.
Starting point is 00:50:02 Like how could you guys be, because I think that it just gets to them. They have so many fans, there's so much media attention. It's nonstop with Dallas and with that organization being run by a guy who is clearly well past his prime and Jerry Jones, you, you've gotten to the point where kooky things are probably happening behind the scenes at all times. I don't know if it's a good location for George Pickens.
Starting point is 00:50:28 He's very, very talented. If you just throw the ball up to him, he can make plays. Not, not really sold up. That's fair. And I'm seeing a comment and to your point of atmosphere wise, if it's the best fit this is miss make me think. I think dusty is saying in the comments, the owner does fan tours during practice. I read this thing that they will literally tour people and groups around the locker room, around the gym. It's like an aquarium where it's like, don't tap
Starting point is 00:50:52 on the glass. The guys are lifting, they're deadlifting in there. As a former athlete, that has got to be, that's the most annoying thing. When you're in the zone in your element, please don't mess with me. This is not, I'm not something for you to look at like a pet in the zoo. This is not for your consumption. Just pay a lot of money, come to a game. Or like, I don't know, but I do think that atmosphere point is a very valid one of, they got a lot of pressure on them.
Starting point is 00:51:17 It almost feels like ants under a little, like a microscope, what is it? Or what's the thing called? Magnifying glass, ants underetor Magnifying Glass. They're in that big dome, that glass dome. The sun's gonna come right through. If you can't put up with that, it's gonna sizzle you right down onto the turf. That could happen to him this season.
Starting point is 00:51:34 We will see. That's a good metaphor. I like that. Thank you. But I do think that it all starts with the owner and how can you ever win with Jerry just presiding over that? And then he still talks to the media after like every game, having your owner go out and talk about you after every single game.
Starting point is 00:51:55 I do think it's like that. I do think it's like the ants getting roasted and then literally roasted because they can't put up tarps or whatever they have. They have these big giant things that they put over stuff in us bank stadium when they have concerts. Do they not, are those not available? Can you not get them on? I'm like an Amazon prime member and they will do anything for you. I have to return something and they were like, no, we'll come and get it. I was like, really? Yes. Oh, okay. So I mean,
Starting point is 00:52:22 it shouldn't doesn't Amazon have giant tarps that they could put over that thing? I don't think I would have millions of dollars to spend on fixing their roof and their window situation. You would think so. Isn't it also ironic that because they were so popular in the 70s and the 90s and then they certainly had their run with Terrell Owens and Tony Romo, that would have kept their popularity high. They I think likely have the most fans in America and yet they are the team that constantly
Starting point is 00:52:55 disappoints their fans the most. And you just have to love something about that, right? Like just a bit. But it's this kind of consistent optimism that's slightly delusional. And I will say from my time being around all the scheduling team and the broadcasting team at the NFL in the league office in New York, we know that Dallas draws eyeballs. We will put Dallas in way more prime time slots than they should be in because we know that they get good viewership. They get good viewership. We know the Chiefs get great viewership.
Starting point is 00:53:25 Those two are locks. If you wanna have high numbers, if a network really needs to drive their viewership, let's play Dallas. They could get blown out, it doesn't matter. The data has literally shown they could be losing 24 to zero at halftime. People don't care, they'll keep the TV on.
Starting point is 00:53:40 It could be any other team and they'll turn that off. Something about the Cowboys, that legacy. They've built a brand, I will say, for what it's worth. Well, the poor Titans finding this out, that they were relegated to Thursday night in favor of the Cowboys. They're going to be so upset. No one's going to see Cam Ward either, right?
Starting point is 00:53:59 They're not even on TV this year. And we're not even talking about Kim Ward on TV either. That man's name has never been mentioned on a prime time network. So you are the first person to actually say that he was drafted number one. I thought it was Shader Sanders the way he got that amount of attention. So do you have, do you have any more takes or did you want to get to your undrafted free agent of the week? Yeah, let's, I know we're running a little long here, but UDFA of the week, drum roll please,
Starting point is 00:54:26 someone you have mentioned before as someone you're pretty much a fan of, Max Rosmer, Iowa native, moved to Georgia when he was in high school. Again, another guy with any stars, he had no rankings. He was nominated though for the Walter Payton Award when he was in college at University of New Hampshire, which is the FCS equivalent of the Heisman Trophy. So obviously a stud, but a low-key stud, if you will.
Starting point is 00:54:50 He had six years of college, five at UNH, and then transferred for his sixth year at Minnesota, thank you to the COVID-19 pandemic for allowing actual men to play college football. And I think he could be someone that we keep around for the Vikings, culture-wise, seems to be a great fit. But also looking at his college history and his trajectory, he's peaking at the right time. He started off pretty solidly average again. And then let me see, in his last year of New Hampshire, sorry, I'm trying to make sure
Starting point is 00:55:24 my stats are right. He led the FCS in passing yards, passing yards per game, total offense, ranked second in passing touchdowns, second in points responsible for, and was fourth in completions per game during the 2023 season. That garnered him huge looks for Minnesota. And then at Minnesota, started all 13 games,
Starting point is 00:55:45 completed the single season, his school record with 268 passes for 2,800 yards. The dudes on the up and up, I think that, and also I will say all of the Minnesota Vikings front of office know this because they all showed up to his pro day. The Minnesota pro day, they had everyone there. They had the GM, they had the quarterbacks coached, the head coach, they have the offensive coordinator. They had everybody there. I think this is a guy to keep an eye out for.
Starting point is 00:56:13 And you could tell when Kevin O'Connell talked about Max Brosmer that it's more than just, Hey, he played for the Gophers. Let's bring them in here. And that was my thought as well. When he was working out at rookie mini camp that we usually don't see unless it's JJ McCarthy, obviously but we usually don't see good quarterback play
Starting point is 00:56:33 at rookie mini camp. We normally see it looking like kind of a mess and other times they've brought in a tryout player to throw balls just because they needed someone. It was Brett Hundley one year who could actually get the balls to the wide receivers. But Rosmer was out there looking pretty good. And then he worked his way into a couple OTA drills that we saw it's hard to do as QB four
Starting point is 00:56:55 and threw a couple touchdowns in a drill. And he just, he has a live enough arm to be an NFL quarterback, which I didn't expect. And then when you look at the roster that he had with the Gophers and the previous performances of their quarterbacks there, I mean, my goodness, it's tough to find any quarterbacks who have performed as well as Max Brosmer.
Starting point is 00:57:16 There was one year of Tanner Morgan and that's it. So I think there is something there as potentially a backup quarterback down the road. You're not gonna have him be QB two this year, but he could win the QB three spot or they could just keep him as part of their practice squad because it's unlikely that anyone's going to pick them up. If you have to release him to the practice squad, but maybe down the road, he could be a backup quarterback.
Starting point is 00:57:40 And just to tell you the story from Matt in the comments about kicking in windows, the Vikings had Taylor Heinecke as a backup quarterback years ago. And he likely would have won their backup job had he not kicked in a window trying to get into his house when it was locked, I believe was the story. And there was some sort of excuse that was meant to not be Hey, I was out partying and did something really stupid. I forget exactly what it was like my foot ran into the door or something like I don't remember what the excuse was. But he injured himself kicking in this window and was out for
Starting point is 00:58:22 weeks. And then they you know, had to go with the other backup quarterback. So hopefully that's not an issue. Doesn't sound like that. To end off my segment here and again, no, we're running a little bit long, but this is a fun one. The Viking social media team, which you know, I'm a fan of, they asked their question of the day to all the guys in the field. Question was, what's a weird food combo you like some of the answers range from applesauce on burgers. That's vile spaghetti with ranch Maybe acceptable I could see that potentially working Honeybun and cheese. I'm sorry. I'm throwing up. No, there's no way but
Starting point is 00:59:02 My weird food combo that I like and I want to ask you yours, is my dad watching this will approve. It's a peanut butter sandwich with pickles on it. Before you knock it, try it. You have to try it. That's your homework. You give me homework. I'm giving you homework and see the peanut butter pickle sandwich. That sounds like something that you did when you were two as a mistake.
Starting point is 00:59:22 I don't know about that. That just doesn't, that doesn't sound good at all. What? It's crunchy. And then if you get like a slightly sweet pickle chip, it's a great combo. You got to try it. Don't yuck my yum yet.
Starting point is 00:59:37 I'm pretty good with pickles, like on sandwiches. If I go to Jersey Mike's or something, shout out Jersey Mike's. If you want to sponsor the show, please do. I'm a pickle guy with them. I don't know about peanut butter though. So I found out a couple of years on the show,
Starting point is 00:59:53 something came up with food that everybody doesn't have hot dogs and mac and cheese together. Cause I thought that everybody did that. Just chopped up little hot dog. Like you take the hot dog, chop it up, throw it in mac and cheese, swirl it around and then go with it. Um, I guess not everybody does that, but, uh, that's something that my mom did growing up and I have continued to do as a
Starting point is 01:00:18 grownup to still a very grownup meal. Yeah, you're getting your protein in. Yeah, exactly. But there's also something you've, there's no way you've heard of hot dish, right? You ever heard of hot? Okay. Hot dish is something that is really specific to the Midwest and Minnesota, where you kind of take a bunch of stuff and just throw it in like hash browns, peas, noodles, everybody has their own, look this up, everyone has their own type of hot dish recipe.
Starting point is 01:00:51 And then there are like competitions of different hot dishes and who had the best one. And you kind of put like cheese on the top and maybe some sort of sauce in there. That in itself is a whole combination. And then where I originally come from Buffalo, they have something called the garbage plate, which is where it is,
Starting point is 01:01:12 it is chopped up either hot dog or hamburger. Okay. Thrown on top of those little, the smaller fries. What do you call those? They're not like a long fries. Waffle fries? Not waffle fries. And string fries?
Starting point is 01:01:24 No, like the ones you get like, well like the ones you get with like a breakfast, the ones you get with like an omelet, what are those little? They're like a potato tater tot. Oh, like a roasted potato, like a little. Yeah, sort of like that, that size. And so it's thrown on top and then it has this sauce. That's like a hot sauce on top of it. And then people put like ketchup and mustard
Starting point is 01:01:45 and it's all thrown into one thing. And that is the garbage plate. Someone in the comments is saying, don't call that a casserole, but here in the South, we call that a casserole. I think the reason, I think it's just so much, like it's a casserole, but it varies really widely from person to person.
Starting point is 01:02:05 I've discovered that every household has their own hot dish thing. OK, OK. So maybe I'll test that out. Come back to you. Let you know how it is. You try peanut butter pickle sandwich. I know. I don't think either one is necessary. I have actually never since I moved here, I've never had hot dish. I had many garbage plates and my heart is not in a great place because of it. But I have, I have never had hot dish since I've moved here.
Starting point is 01:02:30 Okay. Okay. Well, maybe I'm not missing out on much, but this was great. Thanks for having me, having me throw around some hot takes, hot dish. I don't know. All of it was served up tonight. If you made it to this point, I'm sorry, but the rest of it was good. Maggie Robinson. I really appreciate having you. Oh, and I was going to mention one other thing. I forgot last couple weeks. You had told me like your social media names and I mixed up which one was which
Starting point is 01:02:55 and some other lady got dragged into a conversation about baby carrots. Oh, no. Because we had talked about how Ben Urisk, the undrafted free agent that his grandpa had invented the baby care, which I didn't even know was an invention. I just assumed that it grew somewhere. And so I tweeted that out and then I tagged the wrong person. So some random woman named Maggie Robinson was in the middle of dozens of responses and I didn't know how to apologize to her, but, oh man, Maggie Robinson,
Starting point is 01:03:27 if you're listening, I'm so sorry. My Twitter handle is at Robinson, Maggie Robinson with two ends at the end. However, my Instagram is Maggie Robinson. That's not confusing at all. Good luck. Good luck, everybody. All right. Well, next Monday, we will certainly talk again, Maggie. Thank you very much, as always. And we'll do it again soon. Thank you. Football, baby. See you. She's got very confident with the football thing.
Starting point is 01:03:55 All right. Well, there you have it. So enjoy the great conversation, the hardcore football on Jair Alexander and Jalen Ramsey and then a casserole talk. So we'll do that again very soon, but three days of mini camp coming up here. I will be out there for every single warmup pass and seven on seven and goal line drill and everything else over the next couple of days should be very interesting. I'll have a podcast with Alec Lewis,
Starting point is 01:04:22 Dane Mizzatani and a live stream breaking it all down as well. So you will not miss a moment of mini camp, I promise you. Thank you again, everybody, for tuning in. Really had fun with the show, and we'll see y'all again very soon. Football.
