This is the Pursuit of Wellness podcast, and I'm your host, Mari Llewellyn.
Guys, welcome back to the Pursuit of Wellness podcast. I hope you're watching on video.
If you are, take a look. This is the new Austin studio. Shout out Fi. She's in the room right now. She has been putting in work
for this studio. She hung the lights herself. She put all these shelves up. Look at the chairs,
the deep dark green pouches or everything. We have cowboy boots. We have a little horse.
We have our energy drinks. We have our hats. This is our Austin studio, guys. I can't believe the day
is here. We moved to Austin, what, six months ago now? Finally, I have my own place. We're in the
Nutribullet office. It's a vibe. I'm so happy we finally have a permanent spot for Pau. Just need
to get a guest in the other chair, but I am really happy to be back doing a solo. I guess this is my
first solo back since I left for Jackson Hole.
Some of you have been DMing me.
You've noticed that the month of August,
we did a lot of mashups.
We did a lot of reposts of our favorite episodes.
And truthfully, I'm so happy with that content.
I think it was important to repost and revisit,
but the team needed a little month to regroup.
I needed a month to regroup and I'm back
recording fresh episodes for you guys. And I know you'll be really happy about it. We're entering
September on the right foot and I haven't talked to you guys in a while. So I want to give you some
updates of what's been going on, how things were in Jackson hole, what I'm doing the next couple months, fertility, health,
all the things. Before I hop in, I have an announcement. Bloom is launching greens in
Costco. This is massive, literally and figuratively. It's our biggest size yet,
biggest savings yet. It's in strawberry kiwi, which is our best-selling flavor.
So if you are a Costco member,
run to Costco. You'll find us near the pharmacy section. If you go where all the supplements are,
the vitamins are, you'll see us. And send me a picture because it's obviously such a big deal.
And I cannot wait to see your guys' content. We're also going to talk about my book journey today because you guys, I think the last time I was on here, I was deeply obsessed with ACOTAR, which I still am. But I finished and now I've moved on to
Throne of Glass, which has been a whole new journey. So we'll talk about that as well.
And let's hop right in. As you guys know, I lost 90 pounds back in 2017. It completely changed my life.
And back then, I wish I had had this tool because figuring out what I was supposed to be doing and
eating for maintenance, deficit, and surplus was really challenging. And that's where Lumen comes
in. It's the world's first
handheld metabolic coach. It's a device that measures your metabolism through breath. And on
the app, it lets you know if you're burning fat or carbs and gives you tailored guidance to improve
your nutrition, workout, sleep, and even stress management. All you have to do is breathe into
your Lumen first thing in the morning, and you'll know what's going on with your metabolism, whether
you're burning fat or carbs. I think this is really, really cool to
have like a scientific view on what's going on in your body. Then lumen gives you a personalized
nutrition plan for that day based on your measurements. You can also breathe into it
before and after workouts and meals, you know, exactly what's going on with your body real time.
And it will give you tips on how to stay on top of your health game. I know nutrition was
such a big part of my weight loss journey and having this tool would have been so, so helpful
for me. I would have known what I was doing with a little bit more accuracy. Lumen can also help
you track your cycle as well as the onset of menopause and adjust your recommendations to
keep your metabolism healthy through those hormonal shifts, which we know is such an important piece of the
puzzle for women. So if you want to take the next step in improving your health, go to
lumen.me slash pow to get 15% off your Lumen. That's L-U-M-E-N dot me slash pow for 15% off
your purchase. Thank you, Lumen, for sponsoring this episode. If you're anything like
me, you forget about all the subscriptions you have on your phone. It's so easy to just subscribe
to something and then completely forget about it and end up wasting your money. And that's where
Rocket Money comes in. Rocket Money is a personal finance app that helps you find and cancel your
unwanted subscriptions, monitor spending, and helps you lower your bills so you can grow your savings.
I think this is such an important tool.
Most Americans think they spend about $62 per month
on subscription,
but the real number is closer to $300
and that's a big difference.
It really adds up.
Even if just a couple subscriptions fall off your radar,
those reoccurring payments you don't know about
can really, really add up.
And who knows, maybe you're saving for a new fall wardrobe, a vacation, whatever it may be.
These little things can make such a big difference. Rocket Money has over 5 million users and has
saved a total of $500 million in canceled subscriptions, saving members up to $740 a
year when using all of the app's features. I think this is so useful
and everyone should be doing this. Stop wasting money on things you don't use. Cancel your
unwanted subscriptions by going to rocketmoney.com slash pow. That's rocketmoney.com slash pow.
rocketmoney.com slash pow. I do wish Fi was on the mic with me today, guys. She's taking a little hiatus. She's in the room
with me right now, but we'll let her tell her truth when she's back. So guys, I was in Jackson
Hall for about three weeks, almost a month out in Jackson Hole. And we were truly living it like we fully lived
there. We rented a house. It was near Teton National Park, probably 10 minutes from the
airport. Really cute house. We had an amazing view of the Teton Mountains behind us. And in front of
us, we had Sleeping Indian Mountain, which is like this really cool outline. And it was incredible. Like the weather was amazing. I was outside every day. We did like two hikes a day.
The person who owned our house owned a ranch up the street and it was goals. Like I think they
have over a hundred acres on Snake River. We took Arnold every day. He ran around, he was in the
rivers. By the way, let me just
address this before I keep going about Arnold, because I know what everyone's going to say.
Lulu is on the North Fork. I've said this a thousand times. Lulu is on Long Island
with her grandparents. Lulu doesn't like to travel. She doesn't like car rides. She doesn't
go on the plane. And we've been traveling a ton. And it's also very, very hot in Austin.
It's like 105 plus. Our girl is with her grandparents and their black lab, Tessa,
who she's besties with. She's swimming every day. She's on the beach every day.
I am picking her up. I love how I'm like, you know, explaining my whole fucking life.
I am picking her up in three weeks on my way back from Europe. Lulu's coming home and I've
decided I'm literally going to film a vlog of Lulu's day in the life so I can shut everyone
up about Lulu being neglected by me. Like the way this girl has the best life ever. Anyway,
that's all I'll say about that. I don't think anyone listening to the podcast is a hater of
mine truly. Like if you're listening to a whole hour of me, you probably don't hate me. You know what I mean? But for anyone listening who does,
that's my answer on Lulu. Arnold had such a good time in Jackson Hole, guys. I felt horrible
leaving with him because he just loved it. The weather was perfect. He went hiking. He saw moose.
I mean, I saw moose too. I'm just talking about Arnold like he's my child, but we saw so much wildlife. Like we had elk outside the door. We saw foxes. We saw chandelier deer,
which I actually didn't know the name of until my friend Taylor, who's also in the room, told me.
I have a whole audience today, guys, which is really giving me good energy. But I saw these
deer and they had these crazy antlers that looked like spider's webs
and they were like kind of fuzzy. And I found out later they're called chandelier deer.
We also saw a whole family of moose at Moose Ponds, which is hilarious that they happened to
be there near Phelps Lake in Teton National Park. Bears, bison. It was incredible. And it was a really good, it was a
good moment for me to go to Jackson Hole because I felt like before I left, I was like very deep
in a spiral about fertility. I think I mentioned on the show, I was doing IUI, which is a process
where they basically turkey based sperm where it's supposed
to go. And I had this appointment. The appointment didn't end up happening mostly because everything's
fine. They did a scan. The eggs looked good. They were getting ready to be released. I had them on
both sides. But timing-wise, I was already supposed to be in Jackson hole for a board meeting
when the eggs would be ready. So I essentially, I would have had to have flown back
for the procedure. It would have been so stressful. And the nurse was just like,
go try naturally in Jackson hole. So that's what we did, you know, didn't work. I'm not pregnant,
but I think from a emotional mental perspective,
like me going somewhere where I was a little bit removed from my routine, I was outside every day,
I just kind of let go control. And it was nice to have quality time with Greg. Like, you know,
Greg is so busy when we're here in Austin. I hardly see him during the day. And being in Jackson Hole,
we kind of tried to schedule all of our work within a couple hours every day. And outside
of that, we went hiking, we went to breakfast together. We just got a lot of quality time.
And it kind of felt like the beginning stages of Bloom when we worked in the same house together.
And yeah, it was really, really nice. I think it was very needed.
One of my favorite things we did was take our van. So we have a camper van that I call Brussels Sprout. And we took Brussels Sprout with Arnold and set off for Yellowstone,
drove through Yellowstone, saw some amazing sights on the way and drove all the way to Big Sky,
Montana, spent the night in the van and I fully made every meal like breakfast, lunch, dinner in
the van. I love cooking in the van. It's so fun. We have like a little stove, a bed and drove all
the way to Big Sky, Montana and went to this hike that I had found like weeks before we even went to Jackson Hole. It's called
Beehive Basin. And it's this like really challenging seven mile hike up into the mountains.
And you end up at this beautiful lake, which is basically like the basin. And we parked the van
at the trailhead and slept there for the night and then woke up and did the hike when we first
woke up. And I know seven miles doesn't sound particularly challenging, but for me it was,
and it was fully uphill. The elevation was crazy. I was really proud of myself for doing the whole
thing. And Arnold killed it. He made me a bit nervous though, because he likes to, like, if you
have a Cocker Spaniel, you know, they kind of zigzag everywhere and they don't stay in a straight line so he was like off in the forest
and there are mountain lions and bears in montana so i was like a little nervous about that but we
did fine um we got to the top and it was a really hot day greg was cold plunging so much in jackson
hall every lake river we came past he would strip down and get in because he's a big cold plunging so much in Jackson Hole. Every lake, river we came past, he would strip down and
get in because he's a big cold plunger. Didn't have our cold plunge, obviously, in Jackson Hole.
So he took full advantage of the natural water supply. We get to the top of this hike.
Greg gets fully naked, like butt naked, hops in. Yeah. Hops in. And I'm like, well, you know, who's, who's going to show up right now?
Like we're in the middle of Montana. Like there's no way. And he's like, take a photo of me. So I'm
like taking a photo of him. Um, Arnold's in there with him. A little lady hiker comes up over the
ledge and Greg's stuck in the lake, butt naked. And I'm like, oh my God, oh my God.
So I'm using my body to shield him from the lady because I feel so bad for her.
So I'm shielding Greg.
He's getting out.
He's got his headband on.
He's like, oh my God.
He's like throwing on his underwear.
So we had a bit of a drama at the top of the lake.
But other than that, the hike was fantastic.
As you guys know, I've really been working on my hormone health lately, especially with fertility and Peak Tea really comes in handy here because they have one of the first hormone healthy coffee
replacements called Nandaka. I also feel like regular coffee
makes me have ups and downs with my energy, anxiety, etc. And this coffee replacement really
tastes good plus gives me a long lasting energy. I found out about Peak years ago. I started drinking
their mint tea. I absolutely love that they come in these little packets with the crystallized tea
so there's no tea bag involved. Nandaka is the only coffee replacement designed for women. It's
a delicious morning ritual that nourishes rather than depletes. It has cacao that activates
metabolism and combats bloat, slow release caffeine for sustained energy, and functional
mushrooms and adaptogens to promote hormonal balance. I feel like Peak products stand out
because they use the highest quality and purest ingredients for maximized benefits and bioavailability.
The cacao butter helps with better absorption of key nutrients, plus the concentrated mushroom
extracts help with stress relief and hormone balance. For a limited time, get 15% off plus
a free starter kit and a bottle of Propolis throat spray when you shop my link peaklife.com slash pow that's p-i-q-u-e-l-i-f-e.com slash pow p-o-w. I think creating a sanctuary in
your bedroom is one of the best things you can do for sleep hygiene. It really just improves
the vibes in the bedroom and makes you sleep much better, much longer. It's almost like recreating
a hotel environment. And I personally love Cozy Earth. It was named one of Oprah's favorite things
in 2018. Their best-selling bamboo sheets are temperature-regulating and incredibly soft. Greg
and I absolutely love them. We like to sleep cold and having temperature-regulating sheets is such
a dream. They have so many amazing
options from pillows to sheets and blankets. Indulge in the ultimate luxury. I also love
Cozy Earth's linen collection. It adds a breezy classic charm to your space, especially if you
live in a really hot area. The linen is perfect. I think if you're going to invest in anything,
investing in amazing sheets is so worthwhile.
Cozy Earth provided an exclusive offer for my listeners today, up to 40% off site-wide when
you use the code PURSUIT, P-U-R-S-U-I-T. That's 40% off site-wide when you use the code PURSUIT. so yeah i was really proud of myself for that from there we drove to bozeman montana
and went shopping i got some cowgirl boots we went to a cafe so it was just amazing such a good trip
um and i also got a lot of horse time which you guys know is really special for me. And I was
really hoping I would. On the street we lived on, this is a funny story, actually. There was a
few horses living on our street and one of them really caught my eye. He was like this beefy,
like imagine Greg as a horse, like that was this horse. And I named it Big
Sweetie because I thought it was a girl actually at first. I was like, oh, a girl horse. I named
her Big Sweetie and she had like pecs and a butt and was just like really jacked. Like kind of like
if you follow like Western riding, like a cutting horse or a reining horse, they have really strong
muscles. So I figured Big Sweetie was a professional athlete.
Turns out I get a DM because I keep posting Big Sweetie on my story with Arnold because Arnold loved Big Sweetie. Big Sweetie is a boy. I get a DM saying, oh my gosh, that's my friend's horse.
His name is Duke. I'm like, oh my God, Big Sweetie's name is Duke. Okay. So Duke and I,
over the month I was there,
really established like a good relationship.
And I would bring Duke carrots every night.
I'm actually going to cry thinking about it
because he's probably waiting for me every night now.
But we had this routine where he'd wait for me
and I'd bring carrots and Arnold would come help me.
And him and Arnold would touch noses.
I'm actually going to cry.
I'm actually going to cry.
It was like a really cute thing. And oh my God, I miss Duke. He's waiting for me. Uh, every night I would go out and
he would be waiting there for me. So another really special thing that happened was, I guess,
you know, Jackson Hole's a pretty small town. I got a DM from a girl named Jessica, shout out
Jessica, if you're listening. Uh, and she was like, Hey, I, you know, I'm a DM from a girl named Jessica shout out Jessica if you're listening and she was like hey
I you know I'm a horse girl I ride at an English barn here in Jackson Hole if you ever want to ride
let me know and I was like I'd actually love to yeah let's do it so we exchanged numbers and it
turns out she has the exact same area code as me because she grew up in the same town I did in Westchester,
which was so funny. We did Western trail riding. I got to Canter. It was awesome. And I do have
like a little bit of a horse update for everyone where I'm like dealing with Bo and an injury.
He may have to get surgery. I'm actually going to go ride him today to see where he's at,
but I think I'll save that for another day for my horse girls. Let me know if you're interested to
hear more. So anyway, I've been home now for a little bit, still very much on this fertility
journey. I have been working with Dr. Gabrielle Lyon just to optimize, you know, naturally. I'm taking some
peptides and things that are really helping with my egg quality. We leave for Europe on, actually,
we leave for New York on Saturday. I'm going to the Hampton Classic Horse Show, and then Greg and
I fly to Sicily. We're going to Provence and Saint-Tropez, which I'm so excited about. And I think will be also a great place to keep trying naturally.
I'll keep you guys posted on all of that.
Something I wanted to share is something I'm fascinated with that someone on the Bloom
team taught me about.
It's called primal astrology.
And if you haven't heard of it, you need to look this up because it blew my mind so we had a bloom team dinner at my house and our chief of brand erica said have you heard of
primal astrology it's basically where you look up your spirit animal based on your birth date and
year so of course i immediately look mine up i'm going to pull it up right now to read for you guys
because i find it to be weirdly accurate so, if you look up primal astrology on Google, I'm going to go to 1994
and you look for your birthday. So I am the sign of the deer. The deer are kind, loyal,
and intensely curious. They are the biggest gossip of the primal zodiac.
They love to talk about everyone and everything that is going on around them.
They have no ill will in spreading rumors.
They simply love to share the latest news with everyone possible.
This sometimes gets them into trouble with the more private types.
But if this happens, the deer will stop at nothing to make things right.
They highly value friendship and loyalty and will do whatever they can to make things right. They are very intelligent and
quick-witted. Love. Thank you. They are extremely curious and love to know how things work.
They have an ability to master new skills quickly, but they also tend to move on to new projects
once they tire of a previous one. Patience is not their strongest virtue and they have a tendency
to worry excessively about things they have a tendency to worry
excessively about things they have no control or influence on over, which is very much me.
A fast moving mind in combination with an inclination for anxiety can be a dangerous
cocktail and can take over as an extreme, can turn into overly stressed deers mood.
What else do we have? Yes, yes, yes. Dears make great friends. It can be
difficult for them to find others who can keep up with their tireless curiosity and need for new
experiences, which I absolutely love. Dears tend to take a long time to fall in love, but once they
do, they are loyal and faithful companions. They don't take rejection well. That's so true. They can be hesitant to
open themselves up after being hurt. In terms of career, they thrive in careers in journalism and
media. Those are natural choices, which I just think is so funny. And I've done this with a few
of my friends. Obviously, I did it for Greg. Greg is a dodo, an extinct animal. And it says they are childlike, hyperactive, super hardworking.
And what else did it say about him? Hold on. I got to look. 1995, dodo. Thirst for learning new
things. Childlike energy, a bit hyperactive, thirst for life. That's so Greg. They can be
angry and aggressive and judgmental when they're sad. I mean,
I don't know if I'd call Greg aggressive, but he's just very strong willed. And, um,
this is so funny because it says this sign is simply better at playing than working. And I feel
like Greg treats his job as playing. Like we were just in the tasting lab for new energy drinks and
he like is having the best time with everything he does. So I thought that was hilarious. Fi is a lobster. And if you know
Fi, she is such a lobster. It said she is meant to help people. Like she's a caretaker, a mother,
a very soft interior that has a hard shell. Like she doesn't open up easily, which is true.
It's just so wild how accurate these are. So guys go look up your primal astrology and let me know
what you are. Now, before we wrap up, I want to touch on where I'm at with my books. So I did
read the first Throne of Glass and now I'm on the second. I had a really hard time getting into it. I felt
like with the Court of Thorns and Roses series, I couldn't, literally couldn't put them down once I
picked them up. Like all I wanted to do was read all day. This one, it took me a minute to get
into the characters. I didn't feel as in love with them. I wasn't as sold. And I found out later on this was Sarah J.
Mass's first book she ever wrote when she was 15 years old. So perhaps her writing style changed,
but it definitely took me a minute to get into. It's definitely more mysterious and scary. And
now I'm on the second one and it's definitely picking up. I think I'm past part two and I'm
starting to enjoy it way more. And I'm'm past part two and I'm starting to enjoy
it way more and I'm going to keep going. I'm going to read Assassin's Blade third. So shoot me a
message if you're also reading those books because I could use people to chat with. And yeah, I really
am so excited to be back on the microphone with you guys recording fresh and new content.
Let me know what you guys think.
Don't forget to leave a review, follow the show, give it a thumbs up, and I'll see you
in the next episode.
Bye.
