Starting point is 00:00:00 yeah i miss i miss the the og canadian accents i'm sad to hear that those those are going away yeah our culture is is being destroyed by the american cultural influence there's no like it was funny because a lot of it like i felt like held on because of like it's a lot easier to control older forms of media but like newer forms of media everyone just is on like ticot they're just listening to american accents on ticot and and they're like what like embarrassed of being like, hey, bad, like, I'm cooking some scotch eggs, yeah? Well, it's really just that, like, you absorb the linguistic environment you're in. And, like, the more online people are, like, sometimes I say Z, sometimes I say Z.
Starting point is 00:00:39 Even though, like, every, especially older people say Z, but it's just because you, like, you watch YouTube and everyone's American, so they say Z. And it's not like Britain where there's, like, a really distinct, I think, cultural difference, like, where you consume and are around a more, like, I guess, distinct linguistic environment. Here, it's just, like, the border is, like, literally an hour drive. Like, we all live right by the border. Yeah, and there's no, like, there's no large body of water, really, that's separating us. I feel like British people look at Americans and our accents, and, you know, they're like,
Starting point is 00:01:08 these absolute trash, like, they look at us as, which it feels right. I mean, any time you have a British, like, anytime we have Annie on the show, and she's reading something, it sounds smart and it sounds- It's proper. It's proper, yeah, it's, there's, you know, even as like a dirty American, I listen to that, I'm like, that's, man, I should be that. That's where I should be. that is like a literal thing and this is this is jake's take so we don't actually have to research the things we're saying but i'm i'm fairly certain a lot of the british accent comes from rich people
Starting point is 00:01:38 being like we want to talk in a fancy way then everyone kind of being pulled along with them and so like the american accent this is total like jake's take live give unverified fact but the american accent is closer to like the english dialect that's spoken in like the 17th century like they've diverged more that americans have interesting so like yeah i guess i guess i guess we probably originally sounded like Daniel Day Lewis and like Gangs of New York or something like that. That'd be awesome. I mean, I'm fucked because I have one, a lot of Canadian friends who I love dearly, love dearly. And so I'll say sorry and I'll say A. You sit out in a boot before. On a boat, yeah. And it started as kind of a joke, but like I, you know, you say something
Starting point is 00:02:22 enough and it just sort of works. It just becomes a habit. Absolutely. Yeah. But I was also doing that long before I ever worked in Canada, and that's because in Ghostbusters, obviously my favorite movie, Dan Ackeroid, there's a bunch of times, and he's Canadian, and there's a bunch of times in the movie, if you watch Ghostbusters, where it goes, oh, I'm sorry, Vankman, I'm sorry. Like, he does, sorry, and it was the first time I had ever been exposed to that accent. So I was like, oh, my God, like, I love these guys, I love the Ghostbusters. Like, he says it like this. I want to say it like this. So I was doing it before I even knew what it was.
Starting point is 00:02:55 We were bringing it back. We were doing the reverse cultural imperialism. We just need to get more Ghostbusters out, I think. More successful Ghostbusters films. And then every American will just be saying out and about under boot. Yes. We need to put Dan Aykroyd in the containment unit. We need to keep him alive long enough to make as many Ghostbusters movies as possible.
Starting point is 00:03:17 And we can turn the American population back to where we really came from, not Britain, but Canada. Yes. The Motherland. If you're hearing this, well done, you found a way to connect to the internet. Welcome to the QAA podcast's Premium Episode 282, Jakes Stakes slash lives, Gives, Volume 5. As always, we are your host, Jake's takes. Lives Gives. I guess and Liv's Gives.
Starting point is 00:04:17 Yeah, too, and. And lives gives. Hey, gang, Jake and Liv here. What an absolute slog of a year it's been so far. Nothing but pure nastiness and bile in the news on your TV and even in your podcasts. But don't worry too much. I'm here to tell you that you're not the only one battling deep depression as you ask out loud to an empty room, how the hell will you endure the next four years?
Starting point is 00:04:43 We're sick too. And for this reason, I decided it was time to come up for air for an hour or so and talk about what's really important. What live and I think about things. So excited to talk about things Things I love talking about things Yeah Things really what the podcast is missing It really is
Starting point is 00:05:02 It really is It really is I'm always so happy when people People online are like Hey more Jake's takes and lives gives please Because I'm like maybe there's a world Where this is the only kind of podcast I do It's like the
Starting point is 00:05:15 You know utopia There's no need for QAA And you could just do this forever Can you imagine Can you imagine life is so good People are just tuning in once a week, twice a week to listen to us, talk about movies, games, shows. Yeah, just wake up and, like, your partner's like, what are you talking about? QAnon, I don't know what that means.
Starting point is 00:05:35 You've got to tune in for another Jake's Takes, Lives, Gives, your podcast that makes you your money. They're like, QAnon, that, like, fringe thing that's, like, so, like, was defeated, was defeated 11 years ago. So listeners, I want you to take a deep breath. Make yourself extra comfortable and allow your body to sink into whatever surface you happen to be resting on. If you are up and around your place doing chores or sitting at work inputting data,
Starting point is 00:06:13 let your muscles relax. Allow your fingers to type a long, row of cues into that Salesforce text field and get ready to hear Liv's opinion on all three Sonic movies. I bet you haven't seen any of the Sonic movies. No, I found out recently from a friend Sonic lore that I didn't know that Shadow was made in a lab. I thought it was like his brother or something. I didn't know that either. Yeah. What a cruel twist of fate that like you're made is like the opposite of some actual guy he's like the um he's like uh uh what do you call he's like winter soldier versus captain america or something i got i know i got that wrong
Starting point is 00:06:59 the two people two people who are into marvel are going to hit me up being like no incorrect these sonic movies though i haven't seen any of them either but what's crazy is that it started so bad like they released the 3d image of sonic and people were like this looks terrible this is going to bomb this is going to be awful you have destroyed sonic which we don't even care about all that much he's not mario yeah who loves i mean now we're going to get someone like the fire of sonic like who loves sonic i feel like he's like a side character in terms of investment i'll tell you who every child aged like three to six my nephew is obsessed with sonic he is coming back he is obsessed He loves the Sonic movies.
Starting point is 00:07:48 My brother took him to the theater to see Sonic 3. He's got a shadow action figure, nice figure, like seven, eight inch figure, very good, like good posable, you know, a lot of good joints. And he's got Sonic T-shirts and he's, he loves Sonic. And it's so funny because when we were growing up, Sonic was like, he was, you know, the under hedgehog. Like Mario and Nintendo, that's whose house we wanted to go over and play. If you had Nintendo, that's where we wanted to go. But Sega Genesis was like, all right, you know, you're not a Nintendo family, but like you got 16 bit.
Starting point is 00:08:22 Like, I guess that's better somehow, but you have Sonic, which is not Mario. This is a dumb question. Is it at all related to the American fast food place? No. I've never been to a Sonic before, but I hear it referenced. Well, we should talk about that because Sonic, actually, the food place is one of my favorite fast food spots. Interesting. I've heard bad things about Sonic.
Starting point is 00:08:46 I, for whatever reason, like it. I think it's because we didn't have them in the Midwest growing up, and we don't really have them in L.A. Like, you have to drive 40 minutes to get to a Sonic from L.A. proper. There's one in Duarte, I think. But, like, it was kind of this mystical thing because it wasn't where I was, but they would still run commercials for it. So it's one of those things, like, I knew it existed, but didn't have access to it. So the first time I had it, I was like, oh, my. God, this is incredible. I see. That makes sense. I'm kind of afraid to eat American fast food. I heard that your standards are lower. I mean...
Starting point is 00:09:22 For, like, food quality. As somebody who has eaten a lot of fast food in my life, it's pretty good.
