This hour is brought to you by a Chicago golf show.
I got five.
It's time for five on it.
Rahini Harrison Rooney.
Bring you five topics on their minds today.
On 104 three to score.
I got five on it.
Number one.
Have you learned anything new today about the bear's effort to build a new stadium?
You know what?
No.
Like, okay, maybe Cam Buckner.
Right?
But not from the meeting and all of that.
Also, because it's been going on during.
our show and there's always so much we can keep track of
of and I would like to also keep track of
real football stuff and by real
football stuff I mean fake hypothetical
trades because that's what the
NFL Combine is all about for me right
now. You got all that? I do
not. I have no idea what I just said.
CHGO's Adam Hogue joined us at 1125
and he was watching it. Did you glean anything from what he had to say
or are we still in the same state?
Yes, I learned that the city of Chicago
entered the chat was like,
you know what? You guys are competing with us.
and we disagree with this.
And I was like, wait a second.
What was all that diplomacy talk?
But I get it in the spirit of Shooter Shoot.
I guess it is true that the Arlington Heights move
would take money away from the city of Chicago
where Soldier Field is.
So it's not wrong.
It's just there.
I guess they had to have somebody say it on the record.
The Bears continuing to play in Chicago has become a pipe dream.
But I learned today that there are people who represent the city of Chicago
that want to make it more than a pipe dream,
or at least get something out of it for the city of Chicago.
You know, I learned Hafei rap music
because I didn't know that term
and how it associated with E40.
Yes, I learned that.
But that's not stadium related,
unless E40's come to play at the new stadium.
Well, one of these things directly affected me today,
and the other one did not.
And the thing was the hyphy music,
and people were polite about it.
And I was like, I'm interested to learn
because I don't like not knowing stuff.
Yeah, I like learning as well, but I will say you live in Chicago, right?
See?
So maybe there is something for you to look forward to in terms of how this plays out and affects the city of Chicago with Soldier Field still being there, still having tens of million dollars, I'm sorry, hundreds of million dollars in debt on it and understanding what is Soldier Field going to be used for going forward and how are they going to get that money taken care of if not through the Bears making a little chunk of change donation, if you will.
You know what I did learn too is that for everybody texting in on the text line?
There's a lot that needs to be explained.
And frankly, not by us.
Read a book.
No, not even that.
People are asking, well, why is suddenly the $500 million that the city or that the residents of Cook County, oh, it's us.
It's us.
Why is that now suddenly the Bears responsibility?
And then we're saying, oh, well, that's because it's part of the negotiation now.
But the fact that that needs to be communicated better so people know that.
You know, thanks to everybody who asks questions.
Or what are the taxes in the Indiana Senate bill?
Like, these are real questions people have that people want to know about.
And so there's an onus there on those communicating with the public where they should be able to speak more to this.
We will do that for you bringing in Jeff Buckholtz from WBBM at 1 o'clock.
But in the meantime, you know, like that is something that I feel like for those of us,
who have more questions
and you have a genuine curiosity
you're not like being a jerk about it
like you deserve an answer.
Why would,
I think the most more important issue is that
it's pretty disconcerting
how many people don't want to know
all those details you just said.
Everyone should want to know
because it affects them directly.
If you listen to this show like there's a natural,
like just because of the nature of talk listeners,
you know,
like I feel like there's a natural curiosity here,
but you're right.
There's a lot of people who don't listen to us
and don't care and don't want to know,
but it's like you're going to have to know at some point
because it's going to affect your bottom line.
Number two.
This question goes out to all my Max andistas out there.
According to Friend of the show
in Pro Football Talk, creator and editor-in-chief, Mike Florio,
the Raiders would be looking for two first-round picks
and a player if they were to trade Star Pass Rusher Max Crosby.
Now that we have a specific idea of the type of compensation,
Las Vegas is seeking,
Do you think the bears should enter the Max Crosby sweepstakes?
That's the sweepstakes spell.
Yeah, but I'm going to need somebody real tricky and smart and slick
to help me figure out the salary cap then.
Because Max Crosby is due $35.79 million.
Would you like to hear the rest of the Raiders who are highly paid, by the way?
It's a pretty compelling list.
Like it was one where Marshall and I were both going, wait, what?
The highest paid raider is Max Crosby at 7.91.
The second highest paid raider is Gino Smith at 26.5.
The third is their left tackle.
Remember what we said about the left tackle store?
Colton Miller makes 22.54.
Jeremy Chin, the safety is at 9.55.
Ashton Genty is their fifth highest paid player at 8.15.
Wait, wait, give me that Max Crosby number again because you said,
I know what you said is not the reality because you said 7.91.
35.791.
There we go.
Yeah, the 35.
Yeah.
Listen,
should they enter the Max Crosby sweet stakes?
Sure.
I think they should actually just go out and win the Max Crosby sweepstakes.
Pay the picks, send them DJ Moore, and call it a day.
That's my proposal.
If the Raiders are amenable to those terms,
the Bears should go get Max Crosby and do what you have to do to figure out the
cap restructure, cut Tremaine Edmonds.
If DeAndre Swift has to be cut, so be it.
You know what else, too, is what happened when Micah Parsons went to the Packers?
What did all the pundits say?
What were the Packers at one point saying, Miles Garrett checked them on this?
But what was everybody saying?
All of a sudden, losses looked like wins and that they were a considerable Super Bowl contender.
a legit Super Bowl contender.
Max Crosby on the Bears.
After nearly making it to the title game,
what would you call that?
Oh, the Bears should be Super Bowl contenders.
That's the point.
Go win the Super Bowl on Caleb's rookie contract.
Go do it.
Like the Seahawks Day with Russell.
What can you build then, huh?
What kind of capital would you have from everybody then?
Number three.
This is five on it with Rahimi, Harris, and Grody,
Leila and Marshall.
On MLB Network yesterday, Jake Peavy and Sierra
Santos made these season predictions
for two Cubs players.
And a bold prediction for you, I think their
closure is going to play a huge part in this.
They're going to do a lot of winning.
Daniel Polencia is ready.
I watched him in the playoffs last year
and down the stretch, bona fide closer.
He's going to lead the National League and saves.
Okay, I've got a bolder one.
All right.
All right, you ready?
You ready for it?
I'll lay it on you.
Okay, Gatsby Swanson, 30-30 season.
I love it.
Okay, here's why.
Hear me out.
Hear me out.
Career high and stole the bases last season.
He also had 24 home runs.
Right?
That's the most he's had since he left the Braves.
And he's got the X factor.
Dad strength, it's a real thing, right?
Jake Peevy predicts Daniel Palencia will lead the NL in saves,
and Sierra Santos predicts Danesby Swanson.
We'll have a 30 home run, 30 stolen base season.
So, I asked the question.
On a scale from 1 to 10 on the confidence meter, trademarked, do you see either of these two stats happening?
Okay, so I just want to offer this.
Robert Suarez led the National League in saves last year for the San Diego Padres,
a team notoriously known for having a ballpark that resulted in two-to-one ballgames for infinity,
aka save situations of plenty with the Marine layer, just dragging hits down.
the fence is in, but there's still a lot of opportunities for saves on the West Coast, whether it be
AT&T Park, Dodger Stadium, somewhat the Big A, but not as much because it's more inland, and San Diego
that's right on the water. He had 40 saves. So I don't think Daniel Palencia touches 40. As much as I
would like to, as much as I think that would be cool, that that bullpen, as we know, was lights blanking out.
that was one of the best bullpins I'd seen in years.
So I don't necessarily know that Daniel Palencia could do that.
That's high praise from former Padre Jake Peavy, but I'm not sure.
However, it might be more likely than the concept of Dansby Swanson hitting 30 home runs.
Like that's a number that I can't wrap my head around.
He was good for 24, though, last year.
But there's something about getting to that extra.
mark, the 30 mark that can be so elusive for people. Did I like that Dansby Swanson hit lower in the order?
You know, he hit a lot more home runs than he did the year before. 2024, he only hit 16.
That also just requires a lot of effort on the stolen bases. He had 20. It's that extra,
it's the extra mark that makes it so much harder for me and so much more elusive. Like, you can get to
that range to the 24 and 20, but to get to 30 and 30 is a real challenge. Yes.
Dierre Santos cited dad strength.
Which we talked about with his home runs.
And I do think that, I do think it matters.
But I just don't know if it's going to be enough.
So perhaps Palencia has a closer chance to touching Suarez than Danzby has to 30-30.
Let me tell you something.
Daniel Palencia can touch Robert Swarer is all he wants.
Interesting.
Last I checked.
Last I checked.
Pause.
Last I checked
Suarez
Isn't even the best closer in his own division
Last I checked since you want to bring up West Coast Marine layer
All that stuff
Last I checked Edwin Diaz is going to have more save opportunities
Anybody I know
Ah crap
He did go over there didn't he
Edwin Diaz is on the Dodgers
Pencil him in for more saves than Daniel Polencia
Actually strike that
Pin him in for more saves than Daniel Palencia
So no Daniel Palencia will not be leading
the National League or the major leagues in saves.
Here's where that might not be the case.
Because the run differential will be so that they might not be in as many
saves situations as you think.
You can say.
Ediaz might just be sitting there in the bullpen like,
y'all ever going to play my music?
Ever?
No.
Kyle Tucker's hitting where in that lineup?
Like you've got to get it close to have a save situation.
Points to head.
So, yeah, that's the best way to be a good closer.
My team never needs a safe.
It's Edwin Diaz all the way.
That's the reality of the situation.
As far as dad's strength, that's cute for a guy who's never hit more than 27 home runs,
and he's only done that twice.
In fact, he's only hit in 10 years over 20 home runs four times.
You know what I've never heard?
Dad speed.
That man ain't getting a 30 stolen basis.
Why is Dad Speed?
Is that like a combine event?
Also, you know what I'm realizing right now
is I'm pretty sure two short sings the term
Heifie and Blow the Whistle?
Yes.
Pretty sure you're correct about that.
See, we just didn't put two and two together.
But unrelated to that,
the man's on-base percentage last year was 300,
which was down from 312 from the year before,
which was down from 328 in his first season with the Cubs.
To still bases, you've got to get on base.
He doesn't get on base is a high enough rate.
to get to 30 steals.
He will not be a 30-30 guy.
He'll be lucky to be a 2020 guy next year
since, you know, last year was the first time
he's ever stolen 20 bases.
Number four.
I forgot how many saves Andres Munoz house for Seattle.
Last year he had 38.
Geez.
I mean, I'd take 20 stolen bases from Dansby again, you know?
So would Dansby.
I take 24 and 20, sure.
More hits overall, but yeah.
Hey, question number four.
We're moving to the other side of town.
Do you think White Sox infielder,
Lenin Sosa, can surpass the 22-run,
the 22 home run benchmark that he reached last season?
I did not expect a Lenine Sosa question today.
You're welcome.
But you're going to enjoy it, aren't you?
You know, I wanted justice for Lenine Sosa back of the Tony LaRosa days.
I just didn't think you got a fair shot in his rookie season.
I see you're nodding.
Tell me what you think first.
Of course he has a chance.
He's going to be in a freaking muller.
lineup. Are you kidding me?
This white socks team
is about to just start
hitting bombs.
You're going to see Mune
and Colson Montgomery
and fill in the blank.
People are going to start
hitting bombs left and right.
Miguel Vargas is going to go on a little run
like he did? Sure. Everybody's
hitting bombs.
I like him to get to 22.
22, yes.
If he can get the five
150 plate appearances, I like him to get to 22 home runs.
So Will Vettable called him instant offense.
There you go.
And I thought that that was such a high compliment.
And he did say he was one of their best hitters last year, which by the numbers is the case.
Justice for Lenin Sosa.
Even if he hits 23, that's more than 22.
I don't know why he can't.
I think it's just a matter of finding a regular role for Lenin.
So I know he played a third base too.
I feel like this is, why not?
Why not, Lenin?
Do you want me to name all the guys
who are going to hit 20 home runs next year for the White Sox?
Sure.
Lenine Sosa.
One.
It's going to be Miguel Vargas.
Two.
It's going to be Andrew Benintendi.
I'm sorry.
Did you say something?
The guy who hit 20 home runs in 116 games last year?
Playing every day out there in left field.
Wasn't that high for him?
Munei and Colson Montgomery.
All those guys are going to hit 20 bombs.
The White Sox are going to get more home runs than the Cubs.
Write that down.
No, I'm not writing it down because I don't believe it.
Okay.
What are you betting with on this?
I'm betting you, apparently.
Dollar bet?
Yes, I'll take a dollar bet on this.
Dollar bet.
White Sox outslug the Cubs this season.
Write that down, Ray.
Tyler, anybody wanted it.
Do you guys want to write that down?
Writing it down.
Begrudgingly.
Is your heart in it?
And with a laugh.
Oh, with a laugh.
Oh, everybody's against me.
Would you like it on the bat?
bet the dollar bet. All right, I'm in.
So Andrew Benintendi.
Tyler, would you like getting on the bet?
Why not?
Andrew Ben Tendi
hit 20 home runs in
each of the last two seasons.
But it was the one before where he hit five.
Okay, well, that
was a long time ago, and he was hurt.
Yeah.
Five, boy.
Y'all got to learn the hard way.
I don't, I'm not confident.
It was right at 20.
Both years.
Okay.
Number five.
That's not really what he does anymore.
This is the last question on 5 on it on 104 3, the score.
The drills at the NFL scotting combine began today.
If you could successfully complete a drill, which would it be?
Okay, the thing I could successfully complete, but it might take a while is the 40.
But I would get there, dang it.
I just might get there in like, I don't know, 10 seconds.
Why is that the laugh?
It's maniacal.
Because it's sad.
You just see me like loafing to the end?
Do you know there are those people who make it look like it's really athletic, but they're still slow?
Like they're doing the real-time chariots of fire?
That might be me on the 40.
But the drill I would like to do is I wish I had hops, man.
Like I wish I had a vertical.
I would love to do just the one where, you know, they measure your vertical, even though it's not really a drill.
Or the gotlet where, you know, you can catch a ball through any, like, the receiver drill where you're weaving.
And you can catch on either side.
and you use your torso a lot to like twist in your hand-eye coordination.
That's the one that I would like to do.
But the one I know I could complete is the 40.
I think I might fall down if I did the gauntlet.
Like you think you've got the coordination.
You do.
But I guarantee you there's a higher rate of falling down than you might think.
You know what?
Take me straight to the freaking wonder lick and turn me loose.
That's what I want.
I want the wonder lick.
Give it to me.
That's the drill.
I've taken the Wonderlick
That's not a drill, it's a test
Yeah
That doesn't measure my athletic ability, thank God
But it's the Wonder League
Is that not something that everybody does when they go?
No, I mean it does, it's true
They don't value it as much though now, do they?
Well, I think it's more
Didn't a bunch of quarterbacks be like, nah, I'm not with it
And just did not do it
After the Vince Young single digit score?
Yeah, wasn't it a single digit that Vince Young?
I'm not sure what the score was. I know it was low.
To the internet.
But yeah, I would do the wonder lick.
That's me.
When are you going to pay me my dollar?
At the end of the season, when we make another bet?
Because the bet I've made with you, I'm not losing.
I'm going to get $3.
Vince scored a 6 out of 50.
That's 12%.
So Jordan Schultz is joining us next.
Okay, Jordan Schultz was tracking down news,
and that's why we couldn't have him at 11.
So I want to hear what the news is.
Jordan Schultz is next.
This is Rahimi Harrison Grotie on 1043, the score.
We go to our hotline.
That is where we find NFL insider reporter and a little bit of a Bears newsbreaker today as well.
Jordan Schultz, host of The Schultz Report and co-host of Why is Draymond Green talking about football?
You can catch him on Schultz underscore report on X.
Jordan, thanks for joining us.
You had a lot of posts this morning about the Bears.
What's the latest?
Yeah, the Bears are in a really interesting position right now because they're kind of off this, you know, kind of magical playoff run.
The roster's in pretty good shape.
You have the quarterback, you have the coach.
There's so much good stuff, but you also have a lot of decisions to make.
I reported earlier today about Javon Dexter, you know, comes off its third season, extension eligible, former second round pick.
And, you know, it's not a good defensive tackle draft.
And it's not a particularly good defensive tackle free agency market.
So someone like Dexter who's eligible
becomes very attractive to several teams
who need a defensive tackle.
And then I mentioned Baygent and DJ Moore as well.
Bears are getting an influx of calls on Tyson Bayesian.
My understanding is they really like them,
they don't want to move them,
but you never say never when it comes to a quarterback
and you never know how desperate a team will get
when it comes to an offer.
So a lot to monitor with Chicago next couple weeks.
Jordan, you mentioned Tyson,
Beijing. I'm just curious because it is such a
quarterback deficient
rookie class coming in after
Fernando Mendoza. What kind of
pick do you think the Bears would pull the
trigger on to get him? And is that
something that could actually happen?
I would be
I'd certainly be surprised if it happened
because I know they really value him. They obviously
extended him a year ago. He's
young and he's very well
liked in the building. I don't know the
answer exactly what would it take
but I would say they would have to
be completely blown away to even consider it. And so far, even though there's been a lot of calls,
they haven't had that. Jordan, what has been the most surprising piece of news you think you've
broken so far, or at least are chasing down at the combine? You know, there's so much noise,
and it can be difficult to navigate it because right now everyone's market, I always say,
is 25, 30 percent better than it actually is. You know, if you ask people,
Okay, what's a number on,
do you ask an agent, what's the number on this guy?
If he's worth 12, maybe the agent will say, you know, 17.
You hear a lot of that because then you navigate around
and you realize maybe that player is not quite out of the market.
So there's a lot of that in navigating right now.
You know, free agency really dominates the combine
despite it really being a draft featured event.
I'd say one of the more interesting things I've heard
is just the amount of buzz around Ty Simpson,
the Alabama quarterback, a lot of love for him,
And then the receivers.
I think between Jalen Tyson from Arizona State,
Cardinal Tate, Cardinal Tate from Ohio State,
Denzel Boston from Washington,
Mackay Lemon from UFC,
it's a really interesting wide receiver class
with an influx of different style of players.
You know, last year, obviously, a couple years ago,
you know, we had the Harrison Neighbors-Odunze draft.
You know, I don't know if this has that type of star power,
but maybe it does because you're talking
about four potential at least first round picks
a receiver. Jordan before we let you go, Jordan Shultz,
NFL Insider, I got to ask you about Max Crosby because
a lot of teams are interested in him.
Mike Flores reporting the cost would be two first rounders and a player.
Are there a lot of people who are willing to ante up to that?
Oh, no, we lost Jordan.
Oh, no. That's a cliffhanger right there.
Jordan was, he's chasing down stuff.
So I think he's amidst he's amidst all the news at the combine.
at least we got Jordan for the time that we had him.
I know it's been a busy day for him as well.
And just to recap some of the news that he did publish so far about the bears,
he mentioned it.
There was the Jervon Dexter post,
and I think that's what surprised me the most.
Teams have inquired with the bears about Jervon Dexter,
who is in the last year of his contract,
as the free agent defensive market and draft class are not deep.
That for the defensive tackle.
the 24-year-old started all 17 games last season
and has 13 and a half career sacks.
Jordan came back to talk about Max Crosby.
That's nice of you, Jordan.
Yeah, I'm sorry about that.
You know, Crosby, I would say nothing from my understanding
is imminent there.
I don't think the Raiders want to trade them.
I do think that the market would be robust.
You know, when you have an elite pass rusher,
with that skill set,
you're going to command
significant draft capital.
But the Raiders,
they've had so many bad seasons
and so many,
so much rostered trauma.
I don't know if it's in their best interest
to trade their franchise cornerstone
over the last,
which really been almost the last decade.
Now, you have a second year GM
who's very good, John Spitech.
You have a first year head coach of Clint Kubiak.
The dichotomy between Pete Carroll
and Kubiak, I'm sorry, and Spitech was not healthy.
Pete wanted to win now, Spitech wanted to build.
I would think that Kubiak and Spitech would be more aligned when it comes to that.
But I would say with Crosby, I'm not willing to say he's going to be moved.
I think that would be way too ambitious.
But if they decided to, there would be a lot of suitors.
It would not be hard to find a partner.
Jordan, we know you're busy, so we want to let you go, but thanks for calling back in.
Yeah, and I'm sorry it was so short, but maybe next week or during free agency when it settles down,
we could have a little more time. I appreciate you.
All the time, absolutely. You name it. We'll check because you're breaking news.
So thanks, Jordan. We appreciate the time.
Thanks, Jordan.
That was Jordan Schultz, live from the NFL Combined.
The text line, hilarious.
What do we see?
269. Jordan was trying to ghost light the score.
Oh, he did not go slate.
called back. He fulfilled the role. It wasn't ghosting because not enough time passed for
ghosting to have officially been applied to this situation. Also, he acknowledged his absence.
Yes. He is at Schultz underscore report on Twitter. He is posting a lot of news, host of the
Schultz Report and co-host of the podcast funnily titled, Why is Draymond Green talking about football?
I love that. Dramon Green. Did you ever see the video of Dremont Green when he went out for the
spring for Michigan State. It is hilarious.
Was he laughing? I could see him laughing. Those are different sports, football and basketball,
and he determined that college basketball was indeed the way for him.
I find his, as fervent as we are about wanting Max Crosby, and as much as how everybody
knows that he would be such a good fit here on another contending NFL team. He kind of
quelled it, didn't he?
Like the overall
Max Crosby desire.
He didn't make it sound as urgent
as I feel like we may have thought it was.
But see, in the same breath,
he's talking about the fact that
Crosby has been there for as long as he's been there
and that
SpyTech wants to build as a front office guy
rather than when now.
Is Max Crosby even going to be on the Raiders
when they're good again?
That's my point.
Just let that be a part of your rebuilding.
That's why the one and only
time I have said this on 104 and or 670 the score is I think the Raiders should go for the
hall. That would make sense for everybody. I'm with it. Like I just told you who their top five highest
paid players are. That left tackle will let you know, huh? Doesn't it? Didn't hear any other linemen
in that top five. And you know what? The stats on the field show it from a year ago,
minus that performance against one Chicago Bears. But I mean, and that just shows you what a passable
left tackle gets paid once they hit free agent.
22 and a half for Colton Miller.
He's the third highest paid player on their team.
But shouldn't that also, outside of the fact that the individuals are who they are,
shouldn't the top three be something along those lines?
Shouldn't it be the guy you know can wreck a game defensively,
your quarterback, your left tackle, receiver theoretically,
and Ashton Genties in their top five?
In most cases, that sets.
Guys who can wreck somebody else's passing game,
the guy that you pay to protect your quarterback and your quarterback.
That sounds like a solid top three.
Except we just know it's the Raiders individuals themselves that might lead to the variable here.
And the other variable is if your quarterback's on a rookie contract, he ain't going to be that high.
That's why you have to take advantage of everybody else on your roster.
And that's why Gino Smith, getting paid when he's getting paid,
makes a little bit of a difference here when it comes to what they might want to do.
And that's why I think like when you're talking about $35.
Roughly $8 million, it's going to take some maneuvering.
Like you need more assets to rebuild a team.
Yeah, you'd love to build around Max Crosby.
But while he has this much value and while he doesn't want to be there,
it seems like that would be a solution that fits both parties well.
Two first and Tyson Bayesian. Who says no?
I mean, people are saying two first and DJ Moore.
Yeah, yeah, I know.
I just wanted to mix it up.
Fair enough.
This is Rahimi Harrison Grotie on 104-3, the score.
And we are trying to track down a lot of the news coming out from the NFL Combine.
We know defensive backs are also speaking today.
So that's part of what is going on in Indianapolis as well.
And normally that would be the biggest story today.
Tight ends are also speaking right now at the Combine.
But instead, the biggest news is probably what's going on in the state houses, both in Illinois and in
Indiana, where we expect Senate Bill 27, the Bears Stadium proposal in Indiana to pass,
and where we also expect to get more information from the pilot bill, the infrastructure
bill that is going on alongside what the Bears funding would be for Arlington Heights.
That meeting started at 10 o'clock this morning.
Then there's also this breaking news coming from Stephen Holder.
The Colts have given quarterback Anthony Richardson permission to seek a trade.
That is a cautious tell right there.
what happened with Anthony Richardson.
I mean, but at the same time,
I understand why the Colts were in the position
to draft him and why they did.
Yeah, from a process standpoint,
it's just from a result standpoint,
that was the risk they ran
being where they were in the draft.
He was the number four pick back in 2023.
Of course, Daniel Jones beat him out quite easily.
He was only in two games last year,
and then he had the orbital bone fracture
during pre-game warm-ups in week six,
and the rest, as they say, is history.
Didn't someone else get hurt that same day in warmups too?
Like, it's bizarre.
Probably not sure who it was.
Was it a bear?
Because they got hurt in pregame warmups this year.
Yeah, you're right, Layla.
That was a thing, unfortunately.
Let's cut that out next season.
If we're talking about top things we want to cut out,
let's cut out the, oh, I'm almost back from an injury.
Or I am back from an injury, and I don't feel quite good.
Stephen Holder is a great reporter, and he also had this note as well.
One observation from the combine, the free agent market for wide receiver Alec Pierce is bigger than that of quarterback Daniel Jones.
Jones will earn more quarterback versus receiver, but there are more outside teams interested in Pierce.
This needs to be a consideration in how they navigate the franchise tag.
The same day Anthony Richardson sustained the orbital bone fracture in pregame warmups,
cornerback Traverius Ward was ruled out before kickoff with a concussion.
So that's what I was thinking of.
Before kickoff?
Before kickoff, but you never know when he sustained the concussion.
If it was in pregame warmups, maybe something else happened.
Who knows?
Yeah, that's not the time where concussion evaluation usually occurs.
Right?
Right before the game.
Are you okay, man?
You've got to walk in funny.
So news and notes from the combine coming as not fast and furious.
I wouldn't say that.
Too fast?
Too furious?
No.
But I'm very, I'm very compelled to see what.
happens with that Dervon Dexter discussion because I don't it doesn't make sense to me the
Dexter yes well you might get more compensation because of I think Jordan put it perfectly when you talk
about the lack of depth in the free agent class plus the lack of depth in the draft class add those two
things up this is a guy you can just trade for and extend and it's it's like getting a free agent a year
in his case. But at the same time,
what are you replacing him with on the field? Like next.
That's a Dennis Allen, Ryan Poles, and Ben Johnson discussion.
Like, I think you just move Sharmer Turner to the interior at that point, but I don't like
that answer either. Coming up next here on Rahimi Harrison Grotie, we continue our
discussion just surrounding the stadium and what we know. Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker
took to national TV to address
that bears push.
That hearing is going on right now, as we understand,
and we'll bring you what he had to say next.
Amy Harrison Grody.
Can you imagine Lovey Smith doing the whole good, better, best thing?
And saying bleep the Packers.
Come on, guys, good better best.
Never let it rest.
I'll see you on Tuesday.
Midday's 10 to 2 on 1043, the score.
This is Rahimi Harrison Grotie on 1043, the score.
And we have a couple updates.
on the pilot bill that the House was hearing,
the Illinois House Revenue Committee.
This from Brendan Moore 13.
He is a political reporter for Capitol News, Illinois.
The House Committee votes 13 to 7
to advance the megaprojects bill
stepped forward after years of no movement.
But based on the wide-raging concerns
expressed by both Democratic and GOP members of the committee,
prospects were a full-house vote,
not looking great.
Now, we do know that the bill,
has moved to the floor, so that's the latest, but then there's also more Marshall.
Yeah, apparently that was a partisan vote, but afterwards the sponsor of said amendment,
Representative Cam Buckner said he himself would not vote for it on the floor without a separate
agreement on concessions to Chicago, including a financial commitment from the Bears to the city.
And if you're wondering what that means, here's a Buckner had to say, they haven't gotten that
commitment yet from the Bears. He did not get specific, but he did bring up the $100 million that
Brown's ownership is paying to Cleveland for them leaving their publicly owned Lakefront Stadium
as a reference point. So yeah, the hands are open. That is from Justin Lawrence. Justin is the
politics and government reporter at Crane's Chicago business. And I assume that that's Cam Buckner
mentioning part of that $500 plus million that Cook County owes.
on the renovations from Soldier Field in 2003.
J.B. Pritzker was on MS. Now and actually spoke directly about the Bears Stadium.
Here's what he said with Chris Hayes.
Let me start by saying I want the Chicago Bears to stay in Chicago or stay in the state of Illinois.
And right now it looks like the choice is going to be between Arlington Heights and Indiana for them.
But I also, you know, I was a businessman before I was governor.
And I can tell you, because I've been involved with a lot of business deals over the years,
that I'm not going to be shaken down.
And I have set out some very clear guidelines.
And my guidelines are we're not going to fleece the taxpayers of the state of Illinois.
We're not going to let the bears do that.
We are going to make sure that we're doing, if we do something that supports the bears,
which we're working very hard on, it's not going to be something that's going to cost our taxpayers.
the way that it's going to cost Indiana taxpayers because it seems like they're going to raise
four or five different taxes on people.
I don't think people of Indiana have any idea what they're in for.
And they're going to pay for a stadium for the Chicago Bears.
I've said from the beginning, we're not paying for a stadium.
We'll help with infrastructure, all the things that we help businesses.
Remember, this is a privately owned business by a billionaire family.
So if the state's going to help, we're going to help just like we do with other businesses
because we want to create jobs.
That's as direct as I've heard J.B. Pritzker speaking.
about the topic. Yeah, he's kind of talked around it even going back to last week when they
postponed that meeting, the one that just happened today. And I wonder if he's getting
more gumption because he realizes, okay, I need to put this back on the bears because I do have
to protect the taxpayer's interests. Another note about the House Committee moving that pilot
bill to the floor. This from Capital Fax, who's a very respected legislative source in the state of
Illinois. The legislation House Bill 910 contains no language specific to the proposed Arlington Heights
Bears Stadium and Entertainment Complex. It's only the payment in lieu of taxes stuff that the bears
also want, but that has been pushed by Governor Prisker for years. That concept has faced resistance
in the House in the past. Nobody from the team testified today, likely on purpose, they want to try to
at least publicly keep this separate from a coming bill that would be specific to the Arlington Heights
stadium.
So we have another step that I wasn't even necessarily taking account for is what you're saying
just to get this to where Indiana is right now.
They're pushing something through that lights the way.
Well, the better question is, what's the bill?
Like, is there a sponsor to the bill?
Has somebody written it?
You know, like I would like to know all of those things.
And why is there still discussion with Illinois to the point of multiple bills?
Well, Senate Bill in Indiana, Sinneville 27, which is regarding the Bears
stadium funding would pass.
It seems like Indiana is more resolute in how they want to attack building the stadium
for the Bears, while the Bears and representation in Illinois is still figuring out what the
language is going to be, what the concessions might be.
As we're talking about, apart from this, what Cam Buckner's talking about for the city of
Chicago, and then what that actually looks like for Arlington Heights, that's a different bill.
So we're several steps away here.
Well, I think it comes down to the Arlington Heights, anything else that goes to Arlington Heights.
I think it's like, oh, we're going to set aside this money for the Bears.
Well, what is it going to be?
Then that's a separate bill.
Right.
So I think that may be how this works.
Now, on MS Now, J.B. Pritzker also talked about that balance that even we're discussing,
whether or not the Bears should stay in Illinois versus what happens if they leave.
My job is to protect the people of Illinois to make sure that they don't have to pay for something.
shouldn't have to pay for. Meanwhile, I want the bears to stay in our state. And there are lots of things
we can do that it's appropriate for us to do. We provide infrastructure for people that live in the
state of Illinois. We provide infrastructure for the businesses of Illinois. This is a business. And they are
going to create economic growth. They have plans for expansion for, you know, amenities that go around
a stadium and other things like that. And so I want them to stay. And I love the team and I want them to
stay put. And, you know, I don't think anybody really wants to, you know, go to see the Hammond Bears.
You like that touch at the end, the Hammond Bears? We all know that. It's not a thing.
They would still be the Chicago Bears. You can't have two Meadowlands, Giants and Jets.
The Santa Clara 49ers. Does that ring a bell? The Arlington Cowboys.
Come on. Come on now. The Los Angeles Chargers await.
That's a real thing.
Sometimes we still rep San Diego.
That's a real thing.
They were robbed of their team.
And they did not take it in kind, being robbed of their team.
No, no.
But did it matter ultimately?
It didn't.
I guess it didn't.
No.
The NFL was like, you're getting two franchises in L.A.
Whether you like it or not.
After having zero for so long.
There's our opinion on this, and there's our understanding, and then there's the actual pros.
Jeff Buckholtz, the WBBM political news editor,
was with us in our studio yesterday to explain a lot of this.
We wanted to have him on later in our show because of all the developing news.
He's got an appearance on WBBM at the top of the hour.
So Jeff is going to join us during the next segment
to try to explain what just happened in there.
That's next.
