Starting point is 00:00:00 This hour is being brought to you by Jewel Osco. Rahimi and Grody. 10 to 2 on 104 3, the score. We know the matchup. Bears, Vikings. Who you got? All right, the Bears will only score 31 points this week. It's Bears 31, Vikings 21.
Starting point is 00:00:18 I too pick the Bears to score 31 points, but here's the twist. I said 31.30. So I also have 31 after picking 31 last week. What is going on on the show? Bears 31. Stop talking so much. Yeah, get this guy a salmon shirt. And then Vikings, 27.
Starting point is 00:00:34 I'm calling for a close game as well, but a victorious Bears at Soldier Field over the Vikings, but my score is different than yours. 27, 24. It wouldn't be the NFC North and the Bears and the Vikings at Soldier Field without a little bit of inclement weather. And so Minnesota settles for the field goal attempt from Will Riker. It's been everything they had hoped they would be
Starting point is 00:00:59 when they drafted him out of Alabama. He knocks this one through and the Vikings have points on their first drive. Cairo Santos from 50. High snap, put down. Santos pokes it through. And both teams getting on the board with field goals on their first drives. 30 and 23, about 10 yards away from field goal range. No way.
Starting point is 00:01:22 This is terrible. That's the fourth consecutive play with a penalty. Offense number 67. And it's Bradbury again. First down and goal. Swip in the game at running back. He's got it. The Andre Swift,
Starting point is 00:01:38 He's going to put. Here comes Williams. Van Ginkle just barely get a piece of him. And he's in pain. Yeah, I don't know if Van Ginkle touched him. It looked to me like he might have pulled up late. Oh, that's even worse then. Yeah, that's what it looked like.
Starting point is 00:02:03 I was waiting to see him get up. Oh, no. This stadium. is silent. Hello darkness, my old friend. The Vikings in front. One minute, and they'll be at the 34-yard line needing a touchdown. Bayesian pressure steps up, lets it go.
Starting point is 00:02:35 There's a newsie. There's Bernie. Coming after Beijing, gets rid of it quickly. It's burden again, trying to slip free. Can't get out of bounds. James Spear hangs on. It's breath for Chicago. The Vikings escape with a 9-3 win.
Starting point is 00:03:04 I am dead inside. Mark Grody, midday's 10 a.m. to 2 on Chicago Sports Radio, 1043, the score. It is really hitting me right at this very second. None of this was supposed to happen. The predictions, the week, the pep rally, as you are listening to a Plummers 9-1-1 football Monday presented by Busey Bank and Gray Clips. It is absolutely Rehemi and Grotie on 104.3, the
Starting point is 00:03:39 score, the Bears lost to the Vikings, 9 to 3. Ben Johnson is not supposed to get out coached. Caleb Williams is not supposed to get injured. DeAndre Swift is not supposed to fumble the football. Sam Roush,
Starting point is 00:03:55 a tight end under Ben Johnson is not supposed to drop a football nor miss a blocking assignment. None of this was supposed to supposed to happen this week, Leila. Thank you for that. I needed that moment right there. That really, between transition and that open,
Starting point is 00:04:11 I got to a 10. Oh, my God. Yeah, that was an episodic open. Nicely done, Tyler Beaterball. The peanut punch has been deployed twice, two weeks in a row against the bears, and I don't like this. I know.
Starting point is 00:04:23 It's not supposed to be this way. Right. Take it back, peanut. Take it back. Get the trademark on it. The biggest stat to me that stood out before we went into this, was the mythical undefeated streak that Kevin O'Connell had its soldier field. And of all the times, you thought, okay, for sure, after the Bears scored 59 points,
Starting point is 00:04:44 whether or notwithstanding, we've had our fair share of days where the rain was predicted to come, and then it didn't, and then there are days where it wasn't supposed to happen, and it did. It wasn't top of mind for me. What was top of mind was the Bears with an absolutely punishing run game, going in and theoretically countering what we had seen out of Brian Flores, which was previous to the week before, a very blitz-happy defense. And you know what we saw instead?
Starting point is 00:05:11 The bears get affected by all those blitz looks. I feel like Ben Johnson did get away from the run game compared to the week before. The weather was a factor. And in the meantime, Soldier Field, you may have grass, which is what athletes prefer, but the drainage was still a huge issue in this one.
Starting point is 00:05:26 You lose your quarterback. We don't know for how long. You can't even get a field goal from what? Two yards past the end. end zone. That was sad to see. That gets blocked. It seemed like everything they tried to do. Everything. Every play. Every attempt at rhythm. At least some of the defensive, I feel like plans stood, but special teams, they couldn't get it going. And at times they stopped themselves. And then they let Minnesota do the same thing to them. Garbage. Yeah. There was a lot of hot
Starting point is 00:05:56 garbage out there for sure. So yeah, I mean, if we're going to talk all week long and hit you over the head with the Ben Johnson versus Brian Flores matchup, then we're also going to declare a winner. And it was Brian Flores by a mile because, yeah, the Blitz percentage was heavy duty from the start of the game. And the Bears were not able to counter. Five and one going into the game. Five and two, Ben Johnson versus Brian Flores since 2024.
Starting point is 00:06:28 Five and two coming out of the game as your head coach. That's another thing. None of this was supposed to happen. Ben Johnson can't possibly get out coached in the game. You can't have a game where you don't have any touchdowns, zero touchdowns. None of this was supposed to happen or was it supposed to happen. You know what I mean? I just feel like it happened.
Starting point is 00:06:52 I don't care about the supposed to or was it or should it. This is what occurred. I know. But if we're going to all talk about, and we did it all week, Leila, we talked about the, oh, man, this is for real. Boy, Ben Johnson talked about wanting to be the greatest scoring offense of all time. It's coming to be. It's real. We believe in this.
Starting point is 00:07:09 We all picked the Bears to win this game by scoring a lot of points and winning this game. When nobody got carried away with it, but this is a drastic turn. And the only reason that I say, well, maybe it was supposed to happen because it is the NFL. And things like this happen along the way to the playoffs or along the way to the promised land. But really the gut punch of the whole game, and I don't know how it came across on TV. I was at the game. I haven't really watched the entire TV copy yet. But the Caleb Williams part of this as well, leaving the game midway through the fourth quarter with the right hamstring injury, literally up in the press box.
Starting point is 00:07:50 And I'm saying to Chris Emma, before the play, I said, you know what? Caleb, just run it in. That's the play it should be. Sure enough, runs left. crumples in front of the defender. And at that point, at that point, I thought he was either tackled or he slipped. I don't know how you were feeling about it in real time. But then when he goes on his back, when he's rolling around and writhing in pain,
Starting point is 00:08:17 like the crowd, like from my perspective, that's the point at which they're like, oh, bleep. Yeah, as Jalen Johnson literally said, and we'll bring you that later, his reaction was O-S-H. when I saw it you, the first thing you think is you see non-contact injury so you see him go down without there being any sort of contact from anybody else and that's why you're concerned
Starting point is 00:08:41 because then what do we always think when we think non-contact we're trained to think it's worse than a hamstring we're trained to think it's concerns and I saw I saw a lot of people who weren't doctors making predictions
Starting point is 00:08:57 yesterday online before we knew what was going on. I saw Achilles. I saw ACLs. I saw all sorts of discussion. But that's why you wait and see. That's the number one thing we're taught as sideline reporters. You do not diagnose an injury. You let you let the people who get paid to do that to that. You just report it. But in the meantime, I don't I don't blame people for fearing the worst because everything about that game was an absolute slog. Additionally, people say, oh, well, it was a surefire touchdown. Nothing was surefire for the bears about this game yesterday. Did you like your chances? Sure.
Starting point is 00:09:36 Especially after they went for it on fourth down. So then they're finally resigned to kick the field goal or try for it. And then they can't get that going. That was also frustrating because that was a problem we had seen before. The low trajectory kick. Left side of the line didn't help you. You're a rookie, your tight end. You drafted in the third round, which was largely considered above consensus.
Starting point is 00:10:00 Did not have his best day out there. Where you at, Sam Rausch? I'm not quite sure why he's being put in those positions anyway. I'll throw Sam Rausch into that final, the Caleb's last drive where you did have the 32-yard screen to DeAndre Swift. That was excellent. That was like the play you're waiting for all day. 15 yards to Roma Dunesday down to about the 18. But my point is like, you're supposed.
Starting point is 00:10:25 You were supposed to let your dogs eat when everything is in doubt. Feed your players. The pass to Roush, he was fed at the four-yard line and he drops the ball. And I did go back and watch that. You've got the two safeties waiting for him. He has his back to the safety. So I get it. It's a little bit of a scary place to be in, but that ball has to be secured.
Starting point is 00:10:48 And then you probably, you probably, you did have two touchdowns on that drop. I do believe Caleb Williams scored. on that run if he doesn't go down right there. And I believe that if Sam Roush had better presence of mind as to where he was and where the defenders were and the insecurity, I think he felt their presence, actually. I think he's going into the end zone. At the very least, probably to the two or one yard line on that play. So that, I mean, just so much went into that last Caleb Williams drive and then the Tyson
Starting point is 00:11:19 Bayesian drive as well. Yeah, for me, if fiss and butts were candy and nuts, we'd all have a Merry Christmas. at the end of the day, this is the game we had in front of us. And kind of like you're talking about theoreticals. I feel like the head coach also thought he was going to call a game plan that overrode the weather, that overrode what he was seeing out of Brian Flores. He mentioned the differences between game one last year and this one. I know we can touch on that in a little bit.
Starting point is 00:11:43 We also want to hear from you, 312, 64, 64, 67, 67, because this was such a frustrating day. But nothing about that game was easy for the Bears. I'm not going to assume they were going to score a touchdown. I can't even assume they're going to kick a field goal with any sort of success. I'm saying that they should have. And this is my reaction to it. So we can do the ifs and butts and candy. I'm telling you what I thought and what I saw and what should have been in this game.
Starting point is 00:12:07 Two real opportunities, especially the Roush one, to score a touchdown right there, period. Well, they kept squandering everything. That's the point. Like, nothing was working. Even when we thought something would work, it didn't work. Or something was successful and got taken away by yet another penalty. The amount of penalties in this game was absolutely horrid and unacceptable. Did you have 8 for 58?
Starting point is 00:12:28 Did you? That's what I have. That's what I have. I heard somebody say it in double digits, but I had 8 for 58. I thought you were predicting penalties for a second. And I'm like, oh, did we have penalties as a prop bet in this game? I will. I will say this.
Starting point is 00:12:43 Eight for 58 is the correct number. Okay, good. I did predict that the Bears would not force a turnover. And I believe that was correct, right? They didn't have a turnover force in this game, did they? Well, no, and they lost the turnover battle, which is something Ben Johnson pointed out. Devin Bush should have, though. Devin Bush should have secured the pick in that, which led to a field goal.
Starting point is 00:13:04 So if you counted up then for you, how many should-haves happen in this game where you feel like, according to the bear standard and according to what you've seen, how many would you go for? Yeah, and that frustrates the hell out of me, that there were so many opportunities. The Vikings win the game. Brian Flores was better than Ben Johnson, but you should have still won that game. And man, God, so disappointing, too, that Tyson Bayesian. And he came in and did the job, 5 of 9 for 54 yards. The 18-yard pass to Burden with a minute left, 21 yards to Roma Dunzee, and then unfortunately incompletions to Burden and Loveland, and then he gets sacked by old Dallas
Starting point is 00:13:47 Turner on the final play of the game. So this is where the bears fan. The bears find themselves here today. Just a frustrating slog of a day. The weather reflected that as well. And the weather hasn't stopped being gloomy since. A gloomy walk in today. Yeah, it wasn't easy to wake up.
Starting point is 00:14:05 It was not. Wake up. 312-44-67-67 is the number. We see you guys calling. We want you. We want to hear from you. Where does this put the bears for you? Are you confident in Tyson-Bagent?
Starting point is 00:14:19 We've just scratched the... surface of this show today. We've got Anthony Herron coming up at 11. Dan Weeder will be with us at 1 o'clock. Just so much to talk about on this day. Ray Diaz and Tyler Buterbaugh are producers. Connor O'Donnell, Max Curtis, Jacob Stutz, and Cody Westreland, all responsible for the video stream.
Starting point is 00:14:39 Search the Score, Chicago on Twitch and YouTube to find our video stream every single day. Your calls next. We'll get more into the penalties and the effect of that sloppiness in the game as well. 312, 64, 64, 67, 67 is the number. It's Rahimi and Grody on 104-3, The Score. Rahimi and Grody. Hey, Mark and Lela, I just want to tell you first off that I really enjoy your show.
Starting point is 00:15:05 You guys cover all those sports I love, and you do it with humor. So keep up the good work. Oh, my God, my friends, my friend. I look forward to talk to you guys, listen every day. Love you guys so much. Middays. Man, love is in the air. 10 a.m. to 2 on the score.
Starting point is 00:15:19 This time they do bring a bet. Williams steps up. Williams lets it rip and gets picked off by Byron Murphy. throws it back across his body and Murphy's there for the interception. Yeah, Caleb Williams picked on this day. He was 15 to 26, 13, 138 yards and that interception right there by Murphy, as you saw on. Fox is will welcome me back into Rahimi and Grotia on 104. The score bears losing.
Starting point is 00:15:49 to the Vikings 9 and 3. The Bears are one and one and staring at Monday night football at Soldier Field against the Philadelphia Eagles coming up next. Thank goodness that game is at home. We'll see if they can get themselves back together. 312-644-67-67 is the number. We are ready for you. Have added callers.
Starting point is 00:16:16 This is a good time to jump in. 3-1-2-6-44-67. 67. We start with Paul in Palos Heights. What's going on? Paul, you're on the score. Rehemi and Grotie. Good morning. It's pretty simple why I thought the Bears lost yesterday is because of what they did to Carolina. They smoked them and they became overconfident. And then when Ben Johnson says, well, we're trying to score 37 points a game. Why do you even have to announce that? Why should you just do it? And that overconfidence gave Minnesota. a little bit of, oh, I'm going to show the bears what we're made of, and look what they did. Yeah, thanks, thanks for the call, Paul.
Starting point is 00:16:57 I don't know if it's that simple, and maybe it is in some sort of subliminal way, but there was the Mark Carman moment where Ben Johnson erased and deleted the previous week, the 59 points, saying out loud that hadn't scored a single point. My problem is that Ben Johnson just didn't counter well to what Flores was putting out there, or if he did counter well, his player certainly did not execute on this day. I did wonder about the hangover aspect, and you can talk to the media, whose job it is to look backwards and forwards for context and important information, by the way, all you want.
Starting point is 00:17:33 But it's how the players feel in the locker room. I know Olin Kruits referred to that this morning on Haw and Peyton, talking about the don't drink the poison, you know, did you guys do that? But you knew and I knew that they were going to attack the center. of the line. You talk to the B-Writer for the athletic for the Minnesota Vikings on the Take the North podcast, and that is exactly what happened in this game. Brian Flores knew exactly where to go. He showed you. He probably told you. You probably knew it was going to happen. And I think we're also seeing still some adjustment that is taking time between Garripp Bradbury and Caleb Williams, too.
Starting point is 00:18:12 No doubt. I think that is real. Some of this was self-inflicted on his part, but he did say I had a nice chat with him after the game, which will play later. I asked him about the penalties and the culpability and he took complete responsibility. But the other thing that stood out to me, he kept on saying, I don't know why we couldn't turn two yards into 10 yards. We couldn't turn four yards into 15 yards. That was the part that he kept lamenting to me. And he kept mentioning too, I kept seeing second and 10, second and 10. We always talk about third down, but second and 10 is not a great place to be either. No, and it's a really good observation and what I kept thinking was when the game started probably midway through the first
Starting point is 00:18:54 quarter maybe later I kept thinking to myself you can't get in third and longs against A the Vikings being this weather not today cannot force yourself to get into a third and long where you are forced to pass the ball it's going to be too hard for you as an offense and too easy for the defense to game up and I feel like that's what happened they you're right about the second and 10 but then it ultimately turned into third and long but you can't hunt the explosives either this was not the day to do that. You chip away. Because that's what it was going to take in a 9 to 3 ballgame. More of what we saw from D'Andre Swift on the drive. The last Caleb Williams driveway is the 32-yard screen. That's how you make explosive days on a day like that. Frank is at Oak Park. Frank, what's going on, man? You're on Rahimi and Grotie on the score. Hey, guys, I'll try to manage the computer better than last week so there's no content break. Between Caleb's hands.
Starting point is 00:19:49 hamstring and Bregman foul to the ball of the face. This was Chicago Injury Sunday. Ugh. After complaining about the D last week, I can't after week two. If you hold any NFL offense to 246 yards, nine points, and you sack the QB three times, you want the reason the team lost, even with a rain assist for the afternoon. On offense, let's hope Caleb's hamstring is no more than a four-game injury, maybe less than that, hopefully.
Starting point is 00:20:20 If it is, the playoffs become a long shot. This offense is where most of the young talent from the squad is. But it's either back of Beijing or third-stringer Keeneham, even at the level of Jacoby Brissette at this stage of their careers. Yeah, I know Beijin went two and two and four start three years ago, but that was with a better defense than what the bears have now. And other offensive peev, they seem to be putting a lot Sam Rauch's plate, and a good portion is getting up-chucked.
Starting point is 00:20:52 He got a penalty. He dropped one in his numbers in the red zone, and his guy made the key field goal block. They say no sport can take a team from the penthouse to the outhouse faster than the NFL with injuries, free agency, and a hard salary cap. Let's hope in coming week the education bears fans get about the structure this team is not too painful.
Starting point is 00:21:19 at the rank just with the hang up. It's pretty amazing. Like the Tyson-Bajun factor in all this, he mentioned him. Yeah, four career starts, all of those in 20-23. He has played in 13 games. And like I said, we'll talk more about Tyson later. But did you notice how different it looked, the football looked in the air from Tyson-Bagent than relative to Caleb Williams?
Starting point is 00:21:44 Like Caleb, one of the best arms in the league and Tyson-Bagent, normal strength arm average strength arm, even on the plays that he connected on. Like my eyes had to readjust to watching the football the way it came out of Tyson Bayesian's hand relative to Caleb Williams, even the mobility part. And he's not a non-mobile quarterback Tyson Bayesian. But Caleb is so elusive and so fast. Everything was all of a sudden in slow motion when Bejan was out there. Yeah, I think that, well, unfortunately, the slow motion thing really played into part
Starting point is 00:22:16 when they were trying to get to the line of scrimmage with 15 seconds. in the game. That was as good of an example as any. That took forever or what it seemed like. I'm thinking, when I'm watching it, I'm like no. Like it just looked like hurting cats. It was not a
Starting point is 00:22:34 productive way to get to the line of scrimmage and then try to go hurry up. The thing that I do like about when they call plays for Tyson Bayesian that didn't happen yesterday for Caleb was they will roll out. Bejant, I've made notes in my Google Doc. Bejan is Rollout King.
Starting point is 00:22:49 They love calling rollouts for him Rollout. Well, why couldn't you do that for Caleb Williams? Like when you had Scheme-downfield blocking plays, they were working for you. And, you know, we see him get flushed out of the pocket and throw that really bad interception. And I think about that in these spaces, too, is, are the design plays for Bayesian safer and then, therefore, would have been safer for everyone in the game yesterday. These spaces. This is the space we are in 312, 644, 67, 67.
Starting point is 00:23:17 back to the phones. We are loaded, folks. It's Sarwan in Wheaton. What's going on, man? Hey, guys. I appreciate you guys taking my call. For sure. I wanted to share some concerns about Kosen Loveland, not only because I took them in the second round of fantasy, but last play of the game, arguably one of our most talented receivers is trying to block, you know, a defensive end who's known for being, a dynamic player and he gets absolutely bull rushed. Why wouldn't you put him schematically in a situation where he can go up and get a 50-50 ball? That just kind of confused me. I understand Ben Johnson talks about players having to earn it every week at practice,
Starting point is 00:24:05 but at what point do you try to scheme up to get the ball in the most talented players' hands? Yeah, it's a great question. I guess the only thing I would say, and I'd have to go back and watch how Loveland graded out as far as blocking is concerned, but I did hear Olin Croutts this morning mentioned that Loveland is a better blocker than we thought he was good blocking last week. So I'm not saying, of course, you probably want Colston Loveland part of the package,
Starting point is 00:24:32 but I don't know that his blocking had been poor or that was necessarily a bad spot for him, bad block, no doubt, because everybody went crumbling down and the game was over. Dallas Turner just bowled over everybody. but my point is, like, Loveland has been an effective blocker. He has been. I also think that if you're going to draft a tight end over consensus in third round and tell me he's the best blocking tight end of the draft,
Starting point is 00:24:59 then maybe you should use him to block rather than be out in pass patterns and use Loveland, who you like passing to be out in the past patterns instead of blocking. Sam Roves proved he couldn't block. On a field goal anyway. Yeah, that was atrocious. Sam, we had a textor, say, 312, 64, 64, 67, 67, 767, that don't blame the tight end. That was a bad snap.
Starting point is 00:25:19 Both were bad. Both can be true. Go back to the tape. Both were bad. Everybody wants that playback. What about Bert in Glenview? Hi, Bert. You're on the score with Arheemi and Grotie.
Starting point is 00:25:30 Hi, good morning. I enjoy your program very much. Both are awesome. Oh, thanks, Bert. I'm listening all day long. I also listen, I do a lot of driving. And 5.30 in the morning, I hear, I want to give a shout out to J.P. because a WGN's loss is the scores gain.
Starting point is 00:25:49 He's awesome. Your dad was awesome. And I didn't like, I don't watch that program anymore from 1030 to 11 because he's off it. Anyway, I'm with him all the way on that. I'm happy for him. We are with him too. We all have love for Jared Payton here, the Haw and Peyton show, yes. My first comment is I have a beef with the NFL.
Starting point is 00:26:12 The beef is I've been listening to. Vince Lloyd, Lou Boudreau, and the radio at Wrigley, that long. And I recall the Bears winning a championship game, 73 to nothing over at Yah Ciddle and the New York Giants. Wasn't that Washington? I thought it was Washington. But I may have got the team wrong, but the score was right. But what I'm trying to say is everything before the Super Bowl doesn't exist. And all those players, coaches, all those people gave their lives to start the NFL.
Starting point is 00:26:45 and they don't include that. That's in the past and it's ancient history. And so when they keep saying 59 points, it's like, come on, you know, we scored 73 points and won a championship. It's not mentioned. The other thing I wanted to say was if the bears had kicked the field goals, the opportunity they had, they would have tied at 9 to 9 going into overtime. Also, the center needs a little more practice. He hiked the ball too high on the missed field.
Starting point is 00:27:15 goal. That's why the timing was off and it got blocked. And he also mishiked it later in the game almost. Hey, Bert, Bert, thanks, man. Appreciate the call. We've got to keep it moving. But, Bert, I really appreciate the call and the quick little history lesson. Should have given more respect to the Bears.
Starting point is 00:27:31 Somebody's got a fact-checked me on that. I believe it was Washington, right? My old heads that the Bears meet 73 to nothing for the record amount of points. Let's go to John in Las Vegas. John, you're on the score. Hi, guys. there's a lot of things that we can talk about, but we don't have enough time.
Starting point is 00:27:48 But the thing that bothered me the most, the last play of the game, right? Now, the quarterback knows he's going to get blessed, right? He just get rid of the ball, throw the ball. What's going to, the worst could happen to be an interception? You have a 50-50 chance where that ball's in the end zone. Anything can happen. Just throw the ball. Don't take a sack.
Starting point is 00:28:10 That's what really upset me the most. and I'd like to know what your thought is about that. Thanks for the call, man. Appreciate it. Yeah, I get that in normal time. It's a 50-50 ball. You don't necessarily have those guarantees when the rain is what it is. Like, that's the other part about this.
Starting point is 00:28:26 He saw about the last Tyson vagent play. Was that the one that he's referring to? Well, I think so. The last play of the game? But yeah, but he was forcing, he was forcing that ball to burn it. It was very sudden. I mean, that was just a hell of a play by Dallas Turner, just rumbling over everybody. That's a Dallas Turner moment.
Starting point is 00:28:43 And Dallas Turner out-athleted nearly everybody else on that field yesterday, just like he did the week before, by the way. Yeah. Oh, yeah, man. And Jalen Redmond was called out by Ben Johnson for a reason. And those are the two guys who really came to play. Yeah, yeah. Our callers have come to play as well.
Starting point is 00:28:59 Let's keep this going. 312, 644, 67, 67. If you'd like to join Rahimi and Grody, we will talk more about the playoffs. My guy Weider text me because I was like trying to figure out the penalties. Eight for 58. And the reason that the double digit thing came into my brain is the bears were called for 10 penalties on the day. They accepted eight penalties.
Starting point is 00:29:23 Yeah, because a couple of them offset. Correct. Correct. Correct. I think there was a roughing play. You hate the roughing the passer, though, against the bears being offset. That sucked. And then by the way, by the way, no, that was terrible.
Starting point is 00:29:36 The math was bad. By the way, the out-of-bounds hit on Khalif Raymond? What? I am so tired of this. I'm so tired. Everybody knows. Everybody knows the Bears don't get calls. And even Mike Pereira, they had come on because suddenly hitting people out of bounds is legal now in the NFL.
Starting point is 00:29:56 He was smiling, too, that I can't think of the defender's name, but when he kind of mosied out over the coach, they're sitting there having a chuckle. And I'm thinking that they're chuckling over the hit that he got. got away with it. And why not? And if you want to go real sliding doors, would the yards provided by that hit and the penalty therein, gotten the bears enough before worse things happened to get a touchdown? Now you're getting into the spirit of the what-ifs.
Starting point is 00:30:22 You were poo-pooing that. Now you've arrived at me. But I think the issue is, though, is that what's in front of you is that the bears couldn't make any opportunity to work yesterday, so I can't expect anything. But I should be able to expect the referees to know what A, face masks are in the league, which seem to be not called anymore this year. And then B, knowing what a hit out of bounds is. Like, at what point does somebody in the front office for the Bears, or I don't know,
Starting point is 00:30:48 ownership, Ray some Kane with their NFL competition committee peers? This is ridiculous. 312, 644, 67, 67 is the number. We're talking about the Bears 9-3 lost to the Vikings on Rahimi and Grotie on 1043, the score. Rahimi and Grotie. Midday's 10 a.m. to 2 on 104 3, the score. None of it was supposed to happen. Bears lose to the Vikings 9 to 3. It's Rahimi and Grotie on 104 3. The score.
Starting point is 00:31:16 You're not supposed to. After 552 total yards, be held under 300 yards and not scored touchdown the next week. Oh, man, it was all just so different this week for the Chicago Bears who are one-on-one. And the townspeople have arrived. That's you, the callers, 312, 644, 66. 67. Josh is where we begin this section of the program. Hi, Josh.
Starting point is 00:31:40 You're on the score. Listen, listen, I got two things that I need you guys to answer. That number 87 tight end, okay, two holding pennies, a false start, two drops, and they keep putting him in. Enough for that kid, he's a buster. Let's admit that. That's number one. Number two, we have no defensive line.
Starting point is 00:31:59 Montez Sweat, he's stealing a check. You guys know he's stealing a check. His fat ass needs to leave, too. Thanks. I'll hang up and listen to your guys talk. Thanks. I don't know if Sam Rauch is a bust. I don't think, I don't say get rid of Sam Rauch. Sam Rauch had a bad day yesterday.
Starting point is 00:32:14 Right? Sam Raush was a negative wins about replacement yesterday. Correct. Like I actually think some points on the board can be attributed to him. What was worse for you? The miss at the four yard line where he could have just backed into the end zone essentially if he had better presence of mind there and the feeling the heat of the two safeties or not blocking his.
Starting point is 00:32:35 guy and they block 23-yard field goal on the Caleb Williams injury drive. That literally adding insult to injury. Both are so bad. I think the thing that bothers me about the drop ball is I'm like, why is he in that position to begin with? You have three different tight ends you like to use. Why weren't one of the other two, the veterans, in those positions? You love his blocking.
Starting point is 00:33:01 Why is he out here in a pass pattern in his second game as a rookie in the NFL? Because Ben Johnson loves him. Yeah, well, I love a lot of things. I love DeAndre Swift, but, you know, I wanted him to run the ball more. I hated that he fumbled. There's no doubt about that. We weren't supposed to be questioning the head coach ever. He was supposed to be perfect.
Starting point is 00:33:18 But there were times last year where you could have said Ben Johnson called a game that didn't make sense. The first game at the season. But the first game against the Packers, for example, the first game against the Packers, he really was adamant about trying to keep Caleb Williams in the pocket for reasons I didn't entirely. understand. But, you know, that's the other thing is what's your counter? When your quarterback can't even get to his drop back, what's the counter there? And are you putting your personnel in? I know you love unlikely combinations we all do. But was that a bridge too far? If Lovelin's in that position, he catches the ball, you think, right? Probably. Are you talking about the Sam Roush
Starting point is 00:33:58 at the four yards? I mean, yeah. If it's in that position. I would imagine that the chances are pretty good then most people would have caught that football because that football should have been caught. Mike is in Lamont. Hi, Mike, you're on the score. Michael. Michael's putting himself through a laundry cycle, it sounds like. In the meantime, in between time, we'll go to... Was that kind of day.
Starting point is 00:34:20 Yeah, I get it, man. Mike in Norwood Park. Mike, you're on the score. What's up? Hi, guys. The Bears lost this game late yesterday because they're undisciplined. They're taking penalties. You can't establish a run game.
Starting point is 00:34:34 when you start first and 15, second and 20, third and long. This team is just undisciplined. If you go back to the Carolina game, bad penalties again. Dave Wanstant was on your program. He talked about how Don Shula stopped practice and gave everybody a half-hour lecture about bad penalties. Okay, you cannot have bad penalties and expect to win a football game. Yeah, well, no, there was a circus, like in the second quarter with about eight minutes left, right, where you literally had four penalties over five snaps.
Starting point is 00:35:07 You had an illegal shift, a dash of holding, a couple parts of intentional grounding, and then just a smidge of false start as well, leading to a punt. The Bears' second drive of the game on their own 42. The drive starts with a Garrett-Bradberry penalty. There was a delay of game. And then Caleb Williams was picked by Byron Murphy on that same drive.
Starting point is 00:35:29 So the sloppiness leading to slop. Well, and there was a completion to Colson Love Lynn that got taken back. And at one point they were doing the math during the broadcast, 39 yards back from that completion is where the Bears ended up having to start that drive. What? Yeah, DJ. So it was second in 25, then it was second in 35, then it was ultimately 39 yards back. Let's go to Hyde Park. We haven't been there in a while. Marcus, what's going on in Hyde Park? Hey, guys, did you think that he should attempt to field go the first time instead of Swift going on fourth down, which he also. almost didn't convert.
Starting point is 00:36:05 And then after that, that's when Caleb got hurt. Do you think that he's gambling too much, guys? Not in that spot. I was okay with the fourth down. It's just when you're below your own 50, that it becomes a little bit shady. So, yeah, I didn't not have a problem with it going for the fourth and one, which they did convert, as he said.
Starting point is 00:36:24 Yeah, and I at least saw the strategy there because you're thinking that is your, based on game flow, that was your best chance to get a touchdown. And that's my nun guy, by the way. way, right? The Caleb Williams' last drive, that's Manungai on the run on fourth and one. I'm pretty sure that that was a Kyle Manung guy situation. Yeah. And they had gotten enough forward progress on the play before to where you like their chances. Right. 32 yards screen to Swift, 15 yards to Roma Dunzee to the 18, Rowsh drop and Manungai eventually converting the fourth and one on that particular play. I will also point out that Caleb Williams had himself an intentional grounding to. It sure did. There were bad penalties all around the offense. Yeah, yeah, no doubt about it.
Starting point is 00:37:09 And you don't see those. Sometimes you don't get that intentional grounding, but there was no player in the vicinity, and that was certainly the issue. We'll get back to some more of your calls a little bit later on in the show. So sorry we could not get to everybody, but we will be intermittently, sporadically, taking your calls here on Rahimi and Grody today.
Starting point is 00:37:29 312, 644, 67. Dan Weiderer joins the show. one coming up next for a couple of segments, though, we will bring in our guy, Anthony Heron, who took it all in, did an entire postgame show yesterday as well. We'll see what he is thinking about. The Bears' 93 loss to the Vikings the next day right here on Rahimi and Grotia on 104.3, the score.
