The views and opinions of Laila Rahimi, Marshall Harris, and Mark Grody should not be taken too seriously.
Especially when they give advice.
Do not take Marshall's analogies, literally.
Especially when it comes to Russell Dorsey.
The sports thoughts of Rahimi Harrison Grody may change at any time.
It's just sports.
Gay, thanks. Bye.
Rahimi Harrison Grody.
10 to 2 on 104 3 The Score.
Danny, how are you?
I just taped an interview with Cooper DeGine, the Philadelphia Eagles.
I just enjoy that his podcast is called Exciting.
And it's Hammond re-blankenship off of the exciting whites meme.
Or dubbed the exciting what of Philadelphia Eagles, if you would like to report that.
That is their name.
Okay, there you go.
What did I say their names are?
The exciting whites.
You know, I asked if you saw himself as an inspirational figure to young white people who want to grow up and be cornerbacks.
If you give us one black coach, just one, we're going to give y'all two white cornerbacks.
That is a great meme.
The wine store meme.
I prefer the exotic whites over the exciting whites, but I hear you.
Hey, I'm Joe Exotic.
Otherwise known is a Tiger King.
The gun chain redneck with a moor.
Cooper flag with a dunk, exciting whites.
Like, it is.
Mac McMichelang.
I could have done 10 minutes with Cooper just on excitement.
Like, why hasn't Riley Moth been on your podcast?
Like, is Jason Seahorn a mentor?
I was about to say, shout out to Jason Seahorn and Merrill Hodge.
He's the first white defensive.
offensive back to have a sack in the NFL since Jason Seahorn. I have a research department.
They looked that up. It's been over 20 years. It's a white corner got a sack.
New white people. You can't scare these white people. I try.
Roll up on a boom. The hell is wrong with you.
Lela Rahimi, Marshall Harris, Mark Grody, midday's 10 a.m. to 2 on Chicago Sports Radio
1043. The score.
3 the score it is. This is
Rahimi Harris and Grody
and we are trying to make sense
of not just Super Bowl week but the trade
deadline which is today
in the NBA.
Layla Rahimi and Marshall Harris are with you
Tyler Beaterball producing the fabulous
open Ray Diaz, Brandon Fryer
producer and helping us out
as well and
before we get to the
Jason Seahorn reference there was
a Mac McClung reference in there
that I mentioned and guess who's
probably playing tonight for the Bulls.
Is it called up?
Mac McClough?
Is it MacKle?
That's Mr. Dunk Contest to you.
Three-time reigning dunk champion,
not defending, I guess,
because he won't be defending his dunk championship this year.
He's already said, I'm opting out.
Which is ridiculous, by the way.
I want to focus on real basketball.
If you're in the G League and there's even a question
that you can compete in the dunk contest,
then you should be forced to play
compete in the dunk contest.
You're too good, Mac, we need your dunks.
Have you seen the
the skepticism and criticism we've gotten each and every year since, you know, all the dunker-dunkers
said they don't want to do it anymore?
Yeah.
How bad is it when the dude in the G-leagues opting out?
And that's not disrespect to Mac.
That's just letting you know what the priorities are.
Yeah, Mac needed that money.
Let's be honest.
He's good at it, too.
He's very good at it.
I wonder, like, at what age do you stop being as good of a dunker?
Maybe he's just like, man, that's a lot of wear and tear on my knees.
I think it's when Zach Levine probably stopped dunker.
as much in the game, which was, he was even dunking a lot in his last season with the Bulls,
you know, last year.
After he got over the knee problem, he's like, look, I'm healthy.
Watch this.
Yeah, he was an above the rim player.
A good old day, Zach Levine and a glutton of super talented, bright future, early 20s guys,
and now everybody's gone.
Everybody's gone.
So that's it, is that let's use that Zach Levine trade as the example, because I feel like
that actually is the beginning of this arc.
Okay.
That's the beginning of the transition for the Bulls.
And essentially, we asked this question in our pre-show meeting because they're still continuing to make deals.
We're trying to figure out whether or not Dail and Terry being moved is going to be official.
And that's where a guy who we think might be the Bull's center once he gets here if he is going to happen, Gershon Yabuse L.
So he's from New York.
And that's one deal that we're trying to figure out whether.
or not it's going to happen. You heard the update from David
Haw that that might still be
up in the air.
We know that Dio
are not Dio Dio Degro.
Iro Dissoumoo.
Let's fire up the football brain
instead of the basketball brain.
We know that Iro Dissue gets traded this morning,
according to reports. Alongside Julian
Phillips to the Timberwolves for two players
and four second round picks.
It sure seems like the Timberwoles are
making some moves, by the way.
Is that any closer of an indicator that they might trade for Janus,
knowing that they freed up the salary of Mike Conley,
and the Bulls helped them with that as well.
Conley gets flipped yesterday in the Kobe White trade,
going to the Carolina team.
Here's what I know.
Mike Connolly's probably going to end up back on the Timberwolves
because now that he's been traded twice,
he can go back to that team after a buyout.
You can't do it if you just get traded once.
You can't just go to a team through trade, get bought out, and go.
The Yonis thing is interesting,
because I think that is the linchpin of whatever we see happen today is going to be Janus
and then teams maybe trying to get in on that deal and then we couldn't get Janus
so maybe we do other stuff instead.
Safe to say it would be a three-team deal at least to balance for Janus.
At least.
Yeah, so that's what makes us compelling.
And when you know the Bulls are still doing business with them.
Now, I also brought up the question, is this the Bulls trying to acquire a ton of second round
draft capital in some sort of package to try to trade for Demontas Sabonis.
as we try to figure out who is the five on this team
where they don't have a guy over six foot nine right now.
But all of this is temporary
until we figure out what they really want to do.
If this is them standing pat,
if they feel like they got rid of the expiring deals
that they needed to get rid of,
sending Kobe White to Charlotte,
helping flip Mike Conley,
helping flipping Iodosumu now,
which I think is a huge deal
because he was actually drafted
and developed by the organization, alongside Julian Phillips.
They pick up an expiring deal, as we know with Jane and Ivy.
They pick up an expiring deal with Anthony Simons.
And Anthony Simons is a little bit older than what we think the Bulls' timeline is going to be.
They also now have Colin Sexton on the books.
So if the Bulls even let those deals expire, and Ivy, I don't think they will.
But say it's two, do you think, Marshall, that this is a tank?
Do you think that this is closer to the Bulls trying to, as I've said before,
not rip the Band-Aid off immediately, but maybe slowly let the air deflate out of the balloon?
Like the helium from like two weeks ago is still up in the balloon and you're like, well, how long is it going to take?
Well, I think the biggest question here is, is it a tank?
Straight up. Are they trying to tank?
I would argue that the answer is no because they haven't shown me.
evidence ever that they were interested in tanking.
And so it may just be a matter of, hey, we've got these extra guards.
Let's see what we can get for these guards as far as adding to that stockpile of,
what, nine second rounders they have gained in the last, what, five days?
It's kind of amazing the number of deals they've done, and yet they haven't been able
to get a first round pick.
Here's what I'll say about the Bull's approach to this.
Unfortunately, they are several days late, and they are several first round draft
pick short of what they should have been doing if they were ready to say we're going to turn this
thing around and do a rebuild. Understand this. They've lost four of their top eight scores
in a matter of days. They've lost over half their active roster in a matter of days. It's not just
I-O and Kobe and Vouch. It's not just those guys. We're talking about Javon Carter got waived to
start this whole thing off.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Emmanuel Miller's two-way deal gone.
And then you look around and see who's left on this team.
Understand Kevin Herder, who is their seventh leading score, is gone.
Also, you look up and down and say, oh, Julian Phillips and Daly and Terry are gone.
Those are two picks from two consecutive drafts that you've basically just given up on and said,
we didn't do a good enough job in getting players that we could develop or players that we thought
could be good.
However you want to look at that.
I don't want just because now they're acting like a normal front office by trading expiring contracts
for Archerskarnas Chavez and company to be absolved of the sins of the past.
And there are many.
This is Rahimi Harrison Grady on 1043, The Score.
I know a lot of people have tuned in asking about 1043 jams.
Go to B96.
The playlist will be a lot of what you're familiar with.
In the meantime, we're here now in 104.
Laila Rahimi and Marshall Harris with you.
We're still on 670 as well.
And as we try to break down this very active, Bulls trade deadline,
the most active in the time that Arturis Karnasovas and Mark Eversley have been with this team.
You know, you brought up a good point that needs to be reiterated here.
It's one thing to draft and then understand that the player didn't hit the way you wanted.
But it's another to actually move on from them.
And that's why the Dalyan Terry trade, if it goes through,
is significant.
Dail and Terry was the 18th overall pick in the 2022 draft
just outside of the lottery pick.
It's okay to say, you know, we had hope or we had scouts
that thought that this was the dude.
They clearly have a scouting process that is different from convention.
So when these guys aren't hitting, you know,
it's okay to say we need to flip somebody for someone else.
The issue is, how much did the thing?
time that you invested trying to see if this guy was going to be somebody. How much did that time
hurt you? And I think when we talk about not having Nikola Vucovich get you a first round draft pick,
not having Alex Caruso, who we know that the Oklahoma City Thunder was thought to be
absolutely crucial to their title win last year, not in trading away Zach Levine only to regain
your first pick or your first round pick from the Demard de Rosen deal to get the protection.
back.
So that was a reestablishment of your own pick to trade all of them and not get a first
rounder out of any of it.
I understand why there's angst there.
But I think it's just the price that the bulls paid in waiting so long to move some of these
players.
For what?
The play-in game where they just got absolutely whooped by Miami.
And then Miami reminds you that they will absolutely whoop up on the bulls again.
in what was one of the historic losses of record
that the team had earlier this week.
Is it bad, Lila, that I came away from that three-game series with Miami,
the way it happened to work out with the condensation, the postponement,
and then now you're playing three straight games against the same team?
Is it bad that I said,
I think Arturz Karas Chávus is seeing the reality
that the heat aren't a great team,
and yet they mopped the floor with you,
and that's why he's decided to go to these lengths,
finally.
At some point, you've got to say,
I don't necessarily know
if it's saying you were wrong
because every GM does this.
Every regime in the league says,
yeah, this player isn't working for us
and they just flip them.
But usually it's quicker.
It's the barge versus the banana boat.
I think our church,
Connor Chos, all of a sudden
turned in his barge for a banana boat.
But the thing about doing that quick...
Like being able to pivot and make a change
and change your course.
Because, because even,
let's go back to the
premise, right, as stated by the front
office. We're looking to build
nine, ten, really good players
that fit on the timeline of
Modis Buzellis and Josh Giddy.
Here's what I want to make sure
he understands going into this. And that was
the statement he made a year ago at this time.
That's what he said a year ago. Here's
what I want people to understand about this.
Even him saying that statement,
you can plan for that,
but if all of a sudden a player
better and with a higher ceiling
than Modis Buzellis and Josh Giddy becomes
available, you have to alter that thinking too and be like, okay, we can actually do the same
thing but around this player instead. And then Modis and Giddy themselves should become expendable.
You've got to always be looking at a chance to level up.
And you can't say, what you cannot say anymore about the Bulls, if you thought it, was that
they don't value draft picks. They're showing you that they will flip players that they care
about, like Iyodosum, for example, for draft picks.
It is, however, a shame that none of them are in the first round because we know that is the most valuable asset of all in the NBA right now.
I'm going to go further.
More valuable than a lot of players in the league.
And they value players and they value young players who have experience who have maybe been iced out of other teams because of the talent level or what happens.
Jane Divey, Josh Giddy fall into that category.
Amphorny Simons falls into that category.
But you had to acquire more draft picks if you wanted to do anything.
in this league. If you want to take a big swing, if you want to add a star to your players,
or if you want to add who you think makes this all work, you absolutely had to get more draft
picks in your stable in order to be able to use those for a deal to be made.
Like the league tells you that every day.
All that being said, I've been adamant that if there was a player they were going to hold
on to, it would be and should be Ayo Dosumu unless you get a first round pickback to go over your point.
I don't like this last deal.
It's my least favorite of all the deals
because you're giving up a player in I-O that, as you said,
they drafted, they developed after they felled.
They felled in the second round.
He fits what you're talking about.
And even if he doesn't fit necessarily the very specific timeline you stated,
I liked the idea of having his bird rights and being able to keep him
and have him on a new deal.
And if you want to move him after that, it's fine.
But that's a valuable piece that.
is, I think, valued around the league more than the other pieces that you've gotten rid of to this point.
And I think they sold short on him by just taking all the four second round picks.
Well, and Jalen Phillips, who had a lot of value on this team.
Yeah, there's that part of it too.
Julian Phillips, like, Julian Phillips had a lot of value on this team.
I'm not as high on Julian Phillips, so he can be moved.
But that together could get you a first rounder.
And I'm not saying a first rounder like in this draft.
I'm saying a first round, you know, like what about a 2029 first rounder?
What about a 2030 first rounder?
So the premise here, and I agree with that, right, what you just said, not this year.
Because the premise is if you're trading Iodosumu, you don't even need protections
because that's a team obviously going to the playoffs.
That's why they're trading for Iodosumu.
But if you can get one in the future, I like that idea.
I don't like what they did with Iodosumu.
That's just my initial, I mean, this happened less than what an hour ago?
that's just my initial reaction to this.
This is not of the same ilk as some of the other moves that were made.
Well, again, it just comes back to the same question.
Is your value system and your valuation based on what the rest of the league thinks,
are those aligned?
Because I know for a fact that the Bulls could have gotten a first round pick for Alex Caruso.
Yeah.
I know that.
So how do.
do you value your players based on how the league values your players?
And some of whom I think they're willing to move a little bit more than
than be able to part with something that,
that are they selling low with some of their guys?
Like are they more willing to part with them for a cheaper price
because they value another guy more like, say, Josh Giddy?
Well, we're about to find out because if any of these players that they have traded away
flourish at a level, especially the younger ones, right?
like the guys we just talked about, Julian Phillips and Dail and Terry.
Right.
If they flourish elsewhere and you didn't get adequate compensation, you're going to come out
with egg on your face.
The ultimate question is, back to the original question, are they trying to tank right now?
If they don't make another move, guess what?
As good as Billy Donovan is is getting the best out of people, other teams should be able
to just pound them into the ground.
And it might be a tank.
The problem is it's a tank too late, if that makes sense.
They're so far ahead of the pack.
enough games to outpace the rest of the league.
Yeah.
And that's the issue too, you know, in all of this is when you take a look at the standings,
but that's it.
Every single time when we've talked about the decisions that this team has made,
it's come down to what?
Timing.
Charlotte Hornets are 23 and 28.
Bucks are 20 and 29.
Nets 13 and 36.
Wizards 13 and 36.
Pacers 13 and 38.
Kings are 12 and 40.
they've got the lowest win percentage in the association.
Pelicans, 13 and 40, there's still reports that the Bulls might be interested in Zion.
Utah Jazz, 16 and 35, Mavericks, 19 and 31, and the Memphis Grizzlies are 20 and 29.
We expect them to not win many games after they traded Jaron Jackson Jr.
All of that said, there's a big group that's fighting to get to the bottom of this thing.
I'm looking at the tankathon right now.
If the season ended today, the Bulls would be lined up, and this obviously could change depending on how the playing tournament goes because the Bulls, as right now are in the playing tournament.
I don't think they're going to stay in there with Charlotte surging the way they are.
Yeah, and trading for good players, yeah.
They added Kobe White.
They've won seven in a row.
They've got a big game against Houston tonight.
So they could be winners of eight in a row, and they could also be in a position to pass the Chicago Bulls because the Bulls will probably lose tonight.
Toronto.
We'll get to that in the next segment.
Oh, yeah.
Toronto's right now sixth in the east.
Yes.
And so the thing is, do you think you can lose enough games to say catch the Dallas Mavericks?
Their five games make that four and a half games back of the Mavericks who have the
seventh best tank odds right now.
I don't know.
Well, the Mavericks are in the West, too.
That's what makes us even worse is that the Mavs are more likely to lose games simply
because they're in the Western Conference.
That's fair.
That's fair.
I mean, the Bucks who just beat you down.
by the way. It'll be interesting to see if they tank harder now that Janus is out for a
amount of time and who knows if they'll even be a buck at the end of the day.
Are you keeping it a buck? I feel like you are.
Listen, somebody needs to because I think people understand the frustration of going through this
process and still not understanding what is the plan. And we'll find out today at 3.30 when
Archer steps up to the mic and there could be more deals done between now and that time.
So coming up next year on Rahimi Harrison Brody on 670 the score.
We've got a bunch of calls, actually.
So we should take your calls.
312, 644, 67, 67.
Did I say 670 the score?
You guys are supposed to tase me or something every time I say it.
104-3 to score.
Thank you.
Old habits.
We're going to play the game of who he play for,
except it's who's playing tonight,
because Marshall and I got to figure this out.
Also, to the person who's sent him.
me something that took me back to a place I had tried to avoid on Twitter. I think we should
revisit another trade deadline deal that put together a pretty epic lineup. Because when I
reminded Marshall of this deal, he was shocked to hear it himself. So another Bulls deal we'll
discuss that that is from a long time ago. I feel like that's worth mentioning. In the meantime,
we broadcast live from the Scores Hyundai Studios, brought to you by your local Hyundai dealers.
when we have guests, they join us via the Circus Sports Illinois hotline.
Download the Circus Sports app today.
Ray Diaz is our producer, Tyler Beaterbaugh, our producer as well.
You heard his excellent open.
Brandon Fryer helps us out.
You can join us on Twitch, twitch.tv slash the score Chicago, our Twitch mob is up and chatting away.
Connor O'Donnell, Jacob Stutz, and Max Curtis are our video team.
I believe the YouTube address changed too, the score Chicago on YouTube too, so you can find
there. And as I mentioned, our number 312, 644, 67,
are the Bulls are any closer to the direction you think they might be going in?
What is that direction? Who's playing tonight? Let's discuss it next.
Lela Rahimi, Marshall Harris, Mark Grody, Rahimi, Harrison Grody on 1043,
the score.
I think the hard part is, and I understand that those guys are, you know, invest in a lot of time on the phone right now.
now and it's, I'm sure, very, very hectic.
You know, we have shoot around, then you come back and shoot around and you're talking to
them on the phone.
It's brief conversations, you know, about, you know, individual players.
So I think there'll be a time, to be honest with you.
Some of this stuff settles down that we'll be able to sit down and talk more in depth
than that.
That's Billy Donovan.
This is Rahimi Harris and Grady on 104-3, the score.
Trying to figure out the trade deadline.
And we are going to take your calls.
312-644-67 remains our number because we were asking the question, are we any closer to
understanding who this Bulls team wants to be? The shift in direction, the shift in getting rid of
expiring contracts, the shift in acquiring so many second round draft picks, as we've said
before, you didn't get the first rounders trading away Caruso, Demar de Rosen, Zach Levine,
a like our
Nikola Vuccivich
so given that
are you okay with it? And then we've got
to figure out say
the Dalin Terry for
Gershon Yabu Sala deal goes through
Yavoussela is a center
he had been playing for the Knicks he hadn't played very
many minutes because that's just
what happens with a lot of these guys.
So he I assume he's probably going to
be the center. He's still not going to play
tonight for this team.
Like the Bulls have a game tonight and we don't
necessarily know who's going to even be on the court. They're in Toronto.
So that's the other thing. You've got to go to a whole other country for this game.
Get your passport out, which they all have because these are NBA players. And it's interesting
because I just want to let people understand. I want people to have an understanding of who
should be available tonight for the Bulls. So it's not it's not who he play for. It's who is
playing. Let's start with the most guys that you're used to seeing. There's Isaac
Akoro.
Okay.
There's Patrick Williams.
There's Yuki Kawamura.
That's who we're used to seeing.
Well, I mean, it goes in descending order.
Did you guys like the Yuki graphic?
Where the Bulls put out the graphic for the game against the bucks?
It was just Yuki with a fate of him in the background, like the Olin Mills pictures.
Very 1970s.
Now, when I look at the injury report, the latest injury report for the Bulls, it has,
Has Jaden Ivy listed as questionable?
The reason? Trade pending.
Although the Bulls have already announced the trade on their website.
Well, I mean, the Daly and Terry trade got announced,
not by the Bulls, but by the rest of the league.
We're still trying to figure out if that's going to happen.
But, but, yeah, you've got to wait to see the actual team announce it, right?
Trey Jones, by the way, who's missed several games,
is now questionable as he returns from a left-hand-ring.
So he could be available.
Right.
then you've got Mac MacLung, who we have told the Bulls have signed.
G-League King.
And wasn't that the available two-way contract?
They had one two-way contract spot that they came.
Because they got rid of Emmanuel Miller.
Correct.
So I guess MacMachlan may take this spot.
MacKulng's going to play tonight.
I'm here to tell you.
He's already in Toronto.
He's going to play tonight.
Colin Sexton and Usman Jing are also part of a deal that has gone through.
But they can't play tonight, right?
They could play tonight if they're there.
I don't know if they're there.
We're going to find out at what time
when we talk to
Julia Poe.
Julia Poe is coming on our show at 1225.
And so she's actually at shoot-around,
so she'll let us know they're an hour ahead of us
because they're in the Eastern Time Zone.
But I've just given you everybody,
the Anthony Simon's news,
I'm not sure about because they were waiting
to see if another team got in on that deal,
so that deal hasn't become official yet.
But out of those guys I said,
who are the starting five?
Who are your starting five, Leila?
All right.
I got you.
You keep running the point.
For the love of the game, I got the 5-8 dude running the point.
Even if Trey Jones is available?
Even if Trey Jones is available, Trey Jones will be at the two.
Okay, actually, that actually could work.
I'm going an order of ascending height here, guys.
Oh, man.
That is how I'm putting this light up together.
A short order, literally.
All right, so Yuki's at the one.
I got Trey Joseph, but he's healthy at the two.
Lachlan Oldbrick is the default center, correct?
He would seem to be.
All right, so Lachlan's by five.
Is Mac McLung by three?
No, Isaac's going to play the three.
I don't know.
I don't know in this world.
Are they tanking or not?
I want Mac MacMaclung on the court.
So you want the hard tank, not a soft tank.
You want the hard tank.
I do.
I do indeed.
So I got MacMaclug at the three.
And what's great about this, whether it's Pee Will or a coro at the four.
Well, I say, whether you're a hard tanking or soft tanking, just put Pee Will in.
It'll figure itself out.
Patrick Williams is starting.
That was the first thing I said to you was Patrick Williams is starting.
So Patrick Williams is at the four.
Do you mean the franchise, Patrick Williams?
Because that's really what he is right now.
He's the longest tenured bull.
I want you to wrap your head around that.
Patrick Williams is the longest tenured bull.
What about Modis?
What about him?
Oh, yeah, he's in my starting line.
I was letting you do yours.
I was letting you do yours.
This is a very hard take.
Yeah, Modis is starting.
All right, so that changed.
I really want Mack McClung in this game.
Maybe I just give him a lot of minutes off the end.
can come off the bench. So here's my starting five tonight.
Fine. Modis can be the three.
I've got Trey Jones starting at the one.
I've got Colin Sexton starting at the two.
I've got Modis at the three.
You've got Sexton playing.
Excuse me. I'm sorry. I've got Isaac O'Corpos at the three.
Hold on. Hold on. You've got Sexton playing and available.
Okay, see, I don't have them available or playing.
I'm just going off the fact that the deal went through.
the Bulls announced yesterday
that the team has acquired
Colin Sexton,
Usman Jang, and three second round picks
in exchange for Kobe White
and Mike Connolly Jr.
He is with the Bulls.
Now whether he's with them physically,
we'll find out at 1225.
I just assumed like Sexton and Jang
were not going to be available tonight.
So I think the Bulls,
here's the problem with the idea
that the Bulls are tanking.
That lineup with the players I just said,
Trey Jones,
Colin Sexton,
Akoro,
Modus, M.P.
Will.
that lineup can still do damage.
It can't, you...
Pea will at the five?
How many points do you think Toronto's scoring tonight?
I have a question.
The last time P. Wool was at the five, did they win or lose the game when he started at the five?
Oh, wait, they won that game against Miami.
The only game they've won in the last, what, five games?
You can't have Pee Will at the five the entire season, can you?
Listen, you tell me.
I mean, if a Koro's at the four, maybe?
No, Modis is at the four.
Coros at the three.
Yeah, but I'm saying like, I'm trying to do that.
You know how I'm doing this.
I'm doing this in like basicest order of height, like who I know can play the most defense
is getting the front core position.
All I know is.
So therefore, for me, that's probably a cora of four and modest at the three.
All I know is if they have Anthony Simons, they are not tanking.
If they move Anthony Simons, I'm more inclined to think that they are doing at least a soft
tank because Anthony Simons will.
will be the best player on offense the Bulls have had on their roster this season.
I did not stutter.
Your ears did not flap.
Really?
So even with Kobe, when he's healthy, how he makes the Bulls go.
Bucket.
Walking bucket.
Anthony Simons can create.
Remember who watches the League Pass?
Remember who watches the Portland Trailblazers late at night the last three seasons
before he got moved to the Boston Celtics?
That was man.
Fair enough.
Yeah.
He's a guy who can give you.
Last month, he scored 39 points off the bench in a game for the Celtics.
he put up 40 points in I think his last each of his last two seasons at least once he he's older than
Kobe Kobe turns 26 this month he's not that much older than Kobe he's less than a year older
yeah that's 26 yeah that's the same age I was getting there so he's he's slightly older than
Kobe but we all believe that Kobe is not because of age is not part of the timeline that they
want jaden ivy I believe is part of the timeline because he's 23
I think that
Amphi...
To modest and too giddy.
I think it's not as simple as saying
a part of the timeline
when you're talking about the bulls
and all these moves
that they have made in the last five days.
I don't think it's fair to just say
because they're not within two years of each other
they can't be part of the timeline.
Because I think part of this
is signing guys to deals,
having them outplay their deals,
and then moving them
timely, in a timely fashion,
and getting first-round pick
or having them be a part of a bigger deal for a superstar.
That is how you do it if you're the Bulls.
No, I feel you.
I just think there's a big part of me that wonders
if all of these second round picks and these assets
and guys like Simons are being put together for a package
for not Janus, but Domantus a bonus.
I hope not.
But what's your likelihood?
Well, in theory, I like that idea.
Because the center position is open, as we just discussed.
In theory, I like your idea because it shows a willingness to pivot and not make it about modest and Josh Giddy, who are still largely unproven guys.
Neither one of those guys is an All-Star or a Star.
And DeMontesabonis is much better than those guys.
And now you're reorganizing your timeline.
He's over 6-9.
Listen, he's just the wrong guy to do it around.
That's my point.
He's also 29.
Like based on what we just talked about, that's the part of it for me that probably is the biggest, it's the biggest outlier.
Is he over the age of 30 in his mid 30s?
Like Vooch?
No.
But how does he make this make sense if that's the case?
It only makes sense in that they feel like he's a good enough player to pivot, again, more banana boat style than barge style, which I'm with.
but here's the problem.
If they do that, it confirms one thing for me, Leila.
It confirms that they can't evaluate talent in the modern NBA
and understand who to prioritize and building around.
Well, I mean, that's it.
Yeah, this is a referendum,
whether or not they want to admit it,
trading away guys like Dale and Terry,
which is the right thing to do.
Yes.
You know, trading away players like that,
you're saying our evaluation of talent was not where we wanted it to be.
or we've changed the price.
And both are a good idea because it lets you know what their value is relative to the rest of the league.
And every GM has misses, whether it's via trade or whether it's via draft.
The problem is, do you have more misses than hits?
And when you do have a miss, can you reconcile that and pivot quickly?
They have shown an inability.
There's no evidence that they know how to pivot once they make a mistake.
I want to bring this up because it took me to a dark place.
Tell me.
Lee Corwin tweeted at us,
Remember, it could be worse, but still not great.
And then send me the graphic of a starting lineup that I am familiar with.
Cameron Payne, Justin Holliday, Denzel Valentine, Paul Zipser, and Chris Felicio.
Never forget.
Never forget what they gave up to get Doug McDermott.
And the fact that in 2017, the Bulls traded Doug McDermott.
And Doug McDermott and Taj Gibson for,
campaign Joffrey Laverne and Anthony Morrow.
This text is not good.
I need you to sit there and remember that trade.
And the fact that the Bulls traded up to get Doug McDermott to begin with.
That's the kind of land that should have had at the beginning of the season if they wanted to get a superstar in this year's NBA draft.
Meanwhile, 6-14.
I believe the end game is Sabonis and Miles Turner end up on the Bulls by the end of the deadline.
Sabonis and Miles Turner?
Basically, he's saying I believe that the core of the Indiana
Pacers from four years ago. You know, when these guys
were still 24 and 25 years old,
but now they're 29 and 30,
that's the problem.
That's the problem. I know what
Sabonis looks like. I know what you can
and cannot build around him. The only reason
Sabonis has been part of a team that
was viable, the Sacramento Kings in the West,
when they snapped that 17
game playoff drought,
is because guess what? He was
playing with guys like Deere and
Fox and Tyrese Halliburton.
That's, that's, or sorry,
He was traded for Tyrese Halliburton, but he was playing with Deeran Fox.
Deeran Fox, who's one of the better scorers in the league.
Oh, my goodness.
So there's that.
This is Rahim Harris and Grotie on 670, the score.
We've had some people waiting on our phone lines.
So let's take your calls next, because do you think the bulls are any closer to the direction you think they're in?
What is the direction you think they're in?
312-644-67.
We are 104-3-the-score, and we thank you for hanging with us today.
We'll be right back.
Harris and Grody.
The great Kevin Harlan.
I just pulled through the Taco Bell drive-through, and I've got a couple of big, nasty,
Supreme Burritos right here waiting to beat.
You know, the first thing they ask you now, are you using the app?
The app, no, I just want my burrito.
I don't want to use an app.
Bring a lot of mild sauce because I'm going to squirt it all over the way.
Put some hot sauce on my burrito, baby.
Rahimi Harris and Grotty, Midday's 10 a.m. to 2 on the score.
You will hear Kevin Harlan with us today at what.
o'clock, so we'll get Taco Bell updates, E-MOS, and more.
Right here on 104-3, The Score.
This is Rahimi Harris and Grody.
And we're going to go to the phones because the Bulls are making deals,
but have you figured out a direction yet?
312, 644, 67, 67.
We start with Anthony in Plainfield.
Anthony, you're on Rahimi Harris and Grody.
Good morning, guys.
Thanks for taking my call.
So a couple things, and I should start with saying,
I have not been a fan of AK upper bulls management for years.
What they have done has been brutal.
They obviously waited too long to get things going here.
With all of that said, these last two weeks or this last week or so,
we've collected nine second round picks, and I get we've gotten a few players for a bunch of players
that have no future on our roster.
All I've heard is we didn't get first rounders for Iowa.
We didn't get first rounders for Kobe.
but if you look back at all of these drafts and you're on draft night and you're seeing these teams in the mid-late 20s,
all they tend to do is trade out of those slots.
And those second-round picks we're acquiring for guys like AO, those are going to be future first-round late-20s picks if the Bulls decide they want to go that route.
So they have plenty of options now that they have all the picks.
I don't look at this as we didn't get a first round for A-O.
As a matter of fact, I think we got it.
maybe too late first round picks for Iowa if the Bulls again decide to do it that way.
Okay, I think you're putting a lot of blind faith in AK because he's not proven he can do
anything really? I would ask you this. Why not keep I.O. sign him to a deal and have him as a
future asset while also helping your team. That's the issue I have with it. You had his bird rights.
You could have kept him and he was fine. I don't understand why you get rid of him in this manner.
You're so much right. I understand. Iowa is a really good point.
player and keeping him on your roster is keeping you in the middle of the pack, right?
Like, they are picking a lane to get bad.
And, like, again, going back to the whole thing with what you're talking about with AK,
I agree with you.
Do we trust them to make decisions?
But also, if you keep Iyo and you resign them and you look to trade him in the future,
do you really think he's going to trade him at the right time for the right capital then?
So you don't trade.
Well, here's part of my issue, Anthony, and I appreciate you calling, is that you're
assuming the bulls are going to flip guys like perhaps Colin Sexton or
Anthony Simons who are quality players and they are the ones on expiring deals.
Ios having a career year but because of how he came up like you mentioned the bird
rights he's going to be a more flexible contract.
Now I was older than quote the timeline in quote if you look at 26 but as we've just
mentioned, Anthony Simons, Colin Sexton is 26.
Colin Sexton is that same age.
So, you know, I don't necessarily know that you think that they're going to get bad enough,
but Colin Sexton and Anthony Simons and Jaden Ivy can play.
Like, Jaden Ivy is a shock creator.
I don't know that you're going to get as bad as you want to get keeping those guys here,
unless you're talking about next year tanking.
And I don't see that being the case in this.
There's no evidence that they're willing to tank, first of all.
And we'll see by 2 o'clock today if they're more willing to tank.
We're going to hear from Arturis Karnasovas at 3.30, and that's when I think we get a lot more answers.
And so because of what Anthony said, I think, you know, two things can be true.
One, AK made a move.
There's just no reason to trust him at this point.
You can't point to something.
Look what AK did and say, that makes me think, one, he's a good evaluator of talent.
Look at the drafts.
And two, that he's going to be in a position where he's going to get better players.
You have I.O.
You had him, he was right there, re-sign him,
and then if you want to move him later as part of a deal for a superstar,
he's the type of player team will take back in a deal for,
I don't know, a Zion Williamson, a John Morant,
you can go down the list,
whatever disgruntled superstar pops up next,
because there's always one or two.
My thing is, I was a good enough two-way player,
not as good as Caruso, you know, on either on the defensive side.
Better than Caruso on the office.
Yes, but my point is, you know,
Caruso theoretically would have fetched you a first round pick.
So IEO, coming off of the year he had had had, if you re-sign him because you have the room,
next year could have probably fetched you a first round pick.
Let's keep it going on the phones.
312, 644, 67, this is Rahimi Harrison Grotie.
Let's go to Donnie on the south side.
Hi, Donnie.
Hey, guys.
Thanks for taking my call.
You know, there's no current old player on this roster that's going to go for a first-round pick.
trust A.K. at all to even make a decision to get a first round pick. We couldn't get
anything out of Caruso, Levine, DeRosen, Vooch, Kobe White, I.O., you know, we got a million,
trillion second round picks. 15% of them turn into rotational players and less than 2%
turn into all-star players. I really don't know the point here. I'll tell you the starting
five tonight, too. It's going to be Moli Ha, Rahimi, Hieie, Spiegel and Holmes.
I mean, this is blasphemy what they got going. I mean, you know,
I'm from 33rd in Hallstead, you know, a big Bulls fan all my life.
I haven't been to a game in a 10-plus year since D. Rose.
I mean, they just don't put a good product out there, and I just, this is, I got my blood pressure up.
I just can't do it with this team.
The decision makers, I mean, the Pittsburgh Steelers of the NBA, they love the play-in.
That's what they look for, the play-in.
That's what's on their bulletin board today.
Play-in, we're going to play for the play-in.
It's just a joke.
Look how fast the Pistons turned it around.
I mean, they were horrible for years, and then they get one guy.
There's no plan either.
Are they tanking?
Are they not?
They just want to stay relevant?
I mean, if I see Mack McCleck-Bacon out there in a starting lineup,
oh, my goodness, this team, I'm sweating.
You might see Mack McClung.
And you know what's funny about the Pistons is they had that horrible,
atrocious losing streak, but we all knew that they had had more talent than what was showing up on the court.
They had pieces.
They drafted well.
Like they had Kate Cunningham at that time.
You know, they had drafted well and they had made some savvy trades and acquired some first-round
picks.
And I think you and I were both of the mindset that Detroit wasn't as bad as they had looked.
And I think JV. Biggerstaff is a great coach.
So I'm not surprised to see them doing what they're doing.
Donie, great call.
And I'm surprised you went with me instead of Marshall because the height advantage is definitely
in favor of Mars.
I don't want to get dunked on tonight.
I'm fine.
Dude, you're basically the average.
height of the Bulls tonight. You realize that, right? I'm only six two guys. Don't listen to her.
I'm only six two. I'm only six
two. Is he over six feet tall? I'm over six
feet tall. Positional size, baby. Let's keep it going on the phones.
312, 644, 67, and to Stephen and Elkroy village.
Hey guys, first thing I want to start off with saying is
AK should be fired, Mark Eversley should be fired.
as much, I don't blame Billy Donovan for the current state because he's just working with what he's got,
but I don't trust any of these guys to lead this organization.
They've shown they can't be trusted with picks.
They can't be trusted with talent.
We waited three, four years too long now to start a rebuild.
When national media, when Charles Barkley on inside the NBA,
in 2022 or 2023 is going up there and saying the bulls need to tear it down,
and we still don't do anything.
We just stand pat because we're happy being in the middle.
As long as ownership is making money, this is all they care about.
They don't care about fans.
They don't care about anything.
Get a couple hometown guys to keep the fans involved,
and then they just want money.
And then to trade away, all these guys that we had,
and we don't get a single first-round pick,
except for the one pick that we traded away.
We got that one pick back.
and then for all these guys we don't get a single second round pick
it's just an atrocity.
It's spitting in the face of these fans
and something needs to change with this organization.
I appreciate it.
I don't argue with anything that you just said
because, again, if there was evidence to be like,
I can point to this or point to that,
I can't point to anything since the lack of a pivot
after Lanzo ball got hurt and that was years ago.
Well, and the thing is, even with what
we're going to hear today, Arturis Karnasjovis has come off of, and the actions that the team
has taken. I think they've come off of the nine or ten good players concept because of the
expiring deals. And that's the part that I need, I need him to fill in the gaps on what changed
from last year at this time to this year. You say that, but if he keeps some of these guys and he
thinks they're one of the nine or ten good players, then that means he doesn't think anything has
changed. Well, at least we'll get some understanding. Thanks for everybody for calling.
in. Thanks for the text. Thanks for the
tweet that sent me back to a
very, very interesting
place with campaign. We
have more coming up here on Rahimi
Harrison Grotie on 1043. The Score
Olin Crutes. Our friend
is coming up next. Talk a little
bears. Talk about the, I think
I've got to ask him about a drill he was coaching
yesterday too for his O-line kids. So we'll
do that next.
This hour is brought to you by
Joel Osco. Olin Prutz there in the
center. I like this guy. You know that he's
going to be doing something.
Olin Cruz.
I'm concerned
Olin's one of the best centers
to ever play a game.
Nobody tougher.
Nobody who was a better leader.
That was his football team.
And he ran the locker.
14-year NFL veteran.
Did you see what Olin Cruz did there?
He moved it right there.
He got the first down before the ball
was ever stabbed.
That's a wiery old center.
Makes moves like that.
Football analyst for 670 the score.
That team, man.
That team fought together.
I think they got the quarterback.
I think they got their coach.
The future looks bright here in Chicago for the Chicago Bears.
Olin Crutes with Rahimi Harrison Grotie on 1043 The Score.
I like a little disturbed on my Thursday morning.
I like talking to Olin Fruits even more.
We do it here on Rahimi Harrison Grotie on 1043 the score.
He joins us via the Circa Resort and Casino Hotline,
Circa Las Vegas.com.
Olin, newly inducted the College Football Hall of Fame,
class of 2026. That happened seconds after we talked to you that day. Olin, congratulations.
Yeah, I really appreciate it. You know, that was a surprise to me. They called me the ball.
They send you a ball through the mail and you're supposed to open it and to get the call from the
athletic director, but the ball actually went to a house I used to live in. So when athletic director
called me, he was like, Olin, congratulations. And I didn't know. First I was thinking, you know,
did they want some more money? What the hell did they want from me? Right.
at Washington, but he told me I made that College Football Hall of Fame. And I'm sure as you guys,
you guys, it's really humbling. It's a chance to thank everyone that helps you get to where,
you know, those kind of awards, those kind of accolades, but really just humbled and shocked.
And it'll be a good time and just grateful to actually, you know, get recognized by the
College Football Hall of Fame. You know, I was at Washington. I played three seasons there.
So they didn't really know if I would make it or not. I didn't have a long college career,
but obviously humbled and grateful I did.
Well, and I get their email lists, and I feel like they are a foundation and an organization that they don't have a lot of, like, stipulations as to, like, when you get in or when you qualify, like, if you're good enough, you get in, it's a wonderful group of people who contributed to the game in a lot of ways.
Yeah, it definitely is a great group of people.
And if you look at their board and go through and you realize why it's run so well and why they throw such a great event every year that, you know,
never heard complaints from people who went out and enjoyed it and took their family and it was
part of the ceremony. They always leave, you know, really satisfied at what they, what kind of event
was and what, you know, what they put to put on there in Las Vegas.
Olin, one of the things that's true, every football off season, really, really bad teams and
really, really good teams have one thing in common. They have openings on their staffs. The
Bears on the right side of that for once this year with openings after seeing Eric Bienimi
move on after seeing Declan Doyle move on.
What do you make of those openings and now knowing that Eric Stoosville has been hired
as the running backs and kind of reunited with Ben Johnson?
Yeah, a good sign for Chicago Bears that people actually want guys off of their staff, right?
We've gone through a lot of years around here where we were trying to figure out who we
wanted off of other people's staff.
So a good sign of Chicago Bears are moving in the right direction.
Coach Ben Johnson really puts himself together really strong staff and losing Coach
B. Enemy, the standard he set in the running back room, the way he was demanding on his
running backs. You could see that through Manung guys play. You saw that through Swiss play and the way
they played football. Obviously, a great reflection on Coach Bianami. In the coaching business,
they always say, your film is your resume. And he had a really good film from this year.
And Declan Doyle moves on to the Ravens. And, you know, thankfully we haven't heard anything about
Al Harris yet. But it's just, it's a good sign. And, you know,
It's a good time for Chicago Bears, and we still have the play caller here and Ben Johnson,
and I'm sure he's looking right now to replace Declan Doyle, will it be somebody on staff,
right?
Would it be Matt Aponte?
Would it be Jack Cable, Robin Baccaro, Press Taylor, T.J. Barrett?
You know, those kind of guys, would they do that or would they look outside the building?
But I'm sure he'll find somebody out there, put him in Declan Doyle's spot and keep that train moving in direction
that goes Ben Johnson wants him moving in.
Well, and Olin, as a former player, I feel like the best staffs I read about are the ones
who disagree a little bit.
You know, it's the ones who may look at a blind spot that you may have or they keep you
honest because when they, when they contradict you, it's usually because they see something
that perhaps another team is keying in on.
And I'm not saying that necessarily happened with this staff, but they did have a group
of varying personalities where I feel like they didn't necessarily get the typical people
in the building.
Eric B. Enemy is a great example.
And then you hear Andy Reid talk about how direct Eric Bienemy is and how much they seem
want that in Kansas City. You know, what does that say about just not being afraid and being
confident enough to bring in some different opinions who have some real experience on your
staff? Yeah, a really great point and critical, right? Critical that you know, we used to say in
the football building, leave your feelings at home, right? Leave them at home because we're going to
say the things that need to be said. We're going to challenge each other. We're going to tell you
when we don't think a play is good. When you don't think you're playing, we don't think you're playing well,
and that's the kind of people like you're talking about Ben Johnson put in the building.
Same with your guys' radio show.
If you agreed on every topic, the show would be boring and you'd be off the air.
So you need guys in there with different opinions who will challenge each other,
who will talk about different subjects.
Look, I've seen the player run this way.
I don't like to play it run that way.
I think we should do this, not that.
So Coach Ben Johnson did a really good job.
Finding those guys the first year guys who would challenge him,
guys would help him grow as a head coach, as a play caller,
help him get to the plays that he needed to get to, present ideas.
Obviously, Coach DeAnnemy, been around for a long time on a lot of coaching staffs.
Andy Reid, people would argue the best play caller in the NFL for a long time.
He brings his ideas, and then you've got Declan Doyle comes from Sean Payton.
And Sean Payton is a great play caller, right tight in coach Jim Dre,
coach Dan Rochard from New Orleans, was that too lame?
All these ideas, like you're saying, in one building, man, challenging each other.
And that's going to be, you know, Studysville, as Marshall mentioned,
as soon as I was here. I was coached on him. He's a great running back coach. He'll bring new ideas.
He was just down in Miami with that coaching staff and running the offices, they wanted to run.
So maybe a big reason that he is here is to bring those ideas. And it's just going to be
interested to see how he replaces these coaches he had and keeps his thing moving in the right direction.
Olin Cruz joining us here on Rahimi Harrison Grotie on 104. On 104th, The Score.
He's our football analyst, also a bear center from 1998 to 2010.
He is a college football
Hall of Fame in the class of 2026.
Olin, I wanted to ask you about the uniqueness of offensive line.
We had our Beres' awards show the other day,
and the question was, who should be the MVP on this team?
I put my vote, I said at the top of list,
should be Joe Tuny because of what he represented
and his flawless play.
Are you upset that they're just now getting around
to this new award, the protector of the year?
Yeah, I mean, it's a question.
cool award man and honestly it's something i've ever thought about when i play and i heard a little
tidbits of joe talking about the award and being up for it and obviously he's deserving and that's a
great pick by you with the culture and the winning and the winning ways he brought in teaching the young
guys how to prepare how to attack every week how to stay focused how to stay ready for the season as it
gets late in the season how to keep in your playbook keep moving the right direction stay on your
fundamentals but uh for me it's something i never thought about i heard joe say like you don't
to think about getting honored as an offense alignment, right?
You think about your offensive line and are you playing well together and how's the team doing
and are we all moving in the right direction?
Are the running backs playing well?
Are the receivers getting the ball because we're blocking well?
But it would have been pretty cool while we're playing to have that award, something to strive
for, something other than the Pro Bowl, other than all pro, an award as protector of the year.
Pretty cool idea there by Dion Dawkins out of Buffalo to come up with to honor guys.
And they've got a great committee that's voting on.
and I'm sure they'll pick the right guy, and I think it's today.
Yeah, the NFL honors are tonight, Olin.
Our segment with Olin Cruz is sponsored by Almost Free Teeth.com,
affordable implants, life-changing smiles.
And Olin, one of the other things that I think is,
is at least the NFL is starting to understand this,
and you were on this earlier,
and I don't think you just said it because you play center.
But how left tackle was always the standard for the most crucial part of the O line.
It was one where that was always the original traditional position,
that meant the most, but you're seeing how Center is really becoming crucial as well.
You know, I feel like having this award for the offensive lineman and just with more people
watching Tate, they just realize how much more the line is really essential to a quarterback
success. You know, what do you think about everybody getting smarter in a good way? I feel like
I can't say that very often right now. Right, no, but, you know, social media has really helped
for that, right, guys who understand line play, who watch the film, putting their thoughts out there on
Twitter, that who are the good offensive element, what's actually happening on?
plays, what you're actually seeing
from different guys. And, you know, the NFL
was just talking to a coach the other night
you talk about centers and he was saying it's a third
down league. And by that he means,
you've got to adjust to the blitzes and all these
pressures that these defensive coordinators
are bringing nowadays and it's really complicated
up front to direct
protection, to change direction, to
get guys on the right guys and that's when a good
center comes into play. He has to
who the O-line's going to
when you want to redirect protection, slide
one way, slide the other way. So
So you are right that people are now like guys like the Charles Bentley,
Duke Mannyweather, Brandon Thorne, they're out there.
You hear from them.
You hear them talking about Mitchell Schwartz putting stuff on Twitter,
breaking down film, breaking down tape, AQ Shipley's another guy.
So there I just mentioned a bunch of guys that are trying to teach everybody about line play,
what's going on out there.
Because as you guys know, most games are the quarterbacks talking, right?
Retired quarterbacks are the color analysts.
And they're talking, telling you what's going on in the game.
obviously like I always say I'm always biased towards offense alignment by that I mean I'll tell you why it wasn't an offensive alignment's fault right I can make the film say anything I wanted to say honest I can grab clips from two or three games and that's what people got to watch for because people can present us any story they want from two or three clips on what that happened in a game and a quarterback is going to tell the story from a quarterback's perspective or why the quarterback couldn't make the play so it is nice to have guys who understand the game from a different point of view talk about the line play talk about the line play talk about
about how important it is. Talk about how important
a guy like Joe Tunney, Drew
Dalman, Jonah Jackson, Darnell
Wright, right, Ozzie Tripilla going in and out.
Those guys, how important
they are to a football team and
what's actually going on when you're watching
a game. Now, Olin, I love that you
brought this up because it brings me back to like
a bigger point in society right now
because social media exists and the way it does.
There's so much misinformation,
disinformation. You could argue that
we have the most educated football
fans we've ever had in the history.
of the game, right? But at the same time, there is stuff out there and people can tell you what
they want you to believe using the film. How do fans, how should Chicago Bears fans, what
should they do? What steps should they take to differentiate between what is true and what is false
out there? That's a great question, man. And that's really every subject, right? On Twitter,
how do you differentiate between what's true and what's false in a political world or in football
and basketball and anything that you're looking on, you know, Twitter for information.
There's so much information, so many accounts out there.
But, you know, you find people you trust and think that, you know, they say something
in three or four or five weeks later that ends up being true.
They're just giving you exactly what they see on film, exactly what they think is happening.
Now, there's bias in everything, right, and people don't like to think there is.
You know, the big problem with the Pro Bowl for years is, oh, there's bias in the Pro Bowl, right?
Now you see this bias in the Hall of Fame votes
and it's bias in the all pro votes too, right?
That's just natural.
People want to tell the story.
They want you to believe what really benefits them
or somebody they know, right,
the information people get out of a football building
whoever gives you that information.
I always tell people from the Bears building,
don't call me in season because you're just going to tell me
what you want me to think about what happened on the player, right?
I want the video, the film to tell me exactly what happened.
and then that's what I say when I'm on radio.
So I don't even like hearing from coaches.
I don't want to hear from players because they just tell you from their perspective,
their point of view, they just tell that story.
So, you know, Marshall, I couldn't even give you a good answer on that.
Like, how do you find people to trust to believe?
I would just say, man, good luck.
Wow.
I appreciate the honesty.
Yeah, that is completely understandable.
If you have an answer, make sure you text one to me.
I got no idea, man.
We're talking to score football.
Analyst, the Bears Center from 1998 to 2010, Olin Cruz, two-time All-Pro as well.
And Olin, we talked about this earlier.
You know, you are our coach.
I just saw a video of you doing a drill with two of your kids on Instagram.
I wanted to ask you about that.
But then it also got me thinking about just how we saw 10 head coaches get hired in the league.
And not one of them is a minority.
And as a minority yourself who is in coaching, who wanted to get.
get opportunities in the NFL.
On the offensive side, where we're seeing a lot of these coaches get the head coaching jobs.
You know, what do you think about the level of opportunity based on the outcomes that we're
seeing for a lot of these head coaching candidates?
Yeah, it's perplexing to say it at least, right?
I don't know what the answer is.
I know they're trying.
They're doing the Rooney Root or doing interviews.
That doesn't seem to be working out the way they want to work out.
You talk about I'm coaching.
Obviously, I wasn't looking for opportunities.
and he's in the NFL, but, you know, I remember going to the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame,
which I'm a member of, and talking to Maatana Vasa and Jesse Sapolu,
and asking them, how did you guys come up with this idea?
And it's exactly what you're talking about.
They created the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame,
and they created the Polynesian Bowl,
which is turning to one of the biggest high school events in the nation.
They created that for the networking opportunity for Polynesian coaches to meet
and fail them to get chances to get different jobs,
and to get to know each other and just create more opportunity.
And that's what we're really talking about, right?
It's creating opportunity for coaches to get to know each other, get comfortable.
And that's the way you get hired in any business, right?
It's not just in the NFL.
It's in any business that this is going on where we're trying to present more opportunities
to people that usually would not have the opportunity.
And if I, you know, just like the social media, I think like everyone else,
if I told you I had the answers, I'd be lying, right?
Even on the defense side of all, if you look at Mike McDonald, them in the Seahawks, right,
they almost, that group they had in Washington with the Washington commanders in 2010 to 2013,
where Shanahan, McVeigh, LaFleur, all those guys there, they almost had that thing in Baltimore,
right, with the defensive coaches, with McDonald, Minter under DMP, under DMP, under Don Wink-Martindel,
who I like to call Baba Yaga because all the blitzes he runs.
But they have a group there, right, with Dernard Wilson and, and,
Lynn, the D-quarter at Penn State and Zachary O'R, and, you know, why did Jesse Minter and
McDonald get those opportunities that the other guys have not got, right?
So it's just very interesting questions to ask, and I think that you've got to make people
uncomfortable, you've got to ask them the questions and get answers from them and try to get
to a solution here at some point where you can move the Rooney Rule along.
I think the Rooney Rule came about in 2003.
So obviously we can update it, we can make it better.
And they have, right, with pushing it to coordinators in a different position where you have to interview and they just got to keep working on it.
All right. Your net worth is your net worth, as they say.
So I completely understand everything you just said with that sentiment.
One more before we get you out of here.
Who you got on Sunday?
And tell us why.
You got to see how's so hard to pick against, man.
When you look at their roster, when you look at their coaching staff and you look up all the stats that they have put up this year and their defensive front and the way the, the way.
Darno is playing and Jackson Smith and Jibba and the way Mike McDonald's plays and
they look like they've been the best team in the NFL throughout the whole football season
with their defense and the way Darno makes plays and the way Clint Kubiak is falling plays there
but gosh man the Patriots when you turn their film on you're like I don't see a lot of stars on
defense here obviously you got Christian Gonzalez right the quarterback but the rest of the team
but man do they play good football against this brayble guys these two coaching staffs are
an interesting study, man. They are very good at what they do when you turn their film on
and the way they execute, especially both teams on the defensive side of the ball.
So I'm going to go with the Seahawks, but one or two takeaways here are there from the
Patriots and they're very hard to run the ball against. Their film is interesting. You turn
the film on and you're like, okay, I'm looking for a star here in their front seven. And there's
very good football players there in their front seven, right? There's very like, you know,
Milton Williams,
Karees Tunga,
who was Ryan Pace's last draft pick here
with the Bears,
right?
There's Robert Spillane,
there's Harold Landry.
But there's not guys
that jump off the film.
Like when you watch the C-offs
with Leonard Williams,
Brian Murphy,
DeMarcus Lawrence.
Like,
those are names everybody knows,
right?
So very interesting to me
how good of a defense
the Patriots play
and where they rank
and that just tells you
how good Brable is
and his staff is at coaching football.
But I'm going to see off
through the reason.
in their favorite and they're a very good football team.
Olin, thanks as always for joining us. We appreciate the time.
Thanks, Olin.
Appreciate you guys. Have good day.
That is the College Football Hall of Famer, Olin Crutes,
the six-time pro-buller, two-time first team All-Pro,
joining us here on Rahimi Harrison Brody on 104-3, The Score.
Always great insight. Always.
Absolutely. And coming up next, this is a,
this story has gone viral. Like there's no other way to put it. It's gone absolutely viral.
The Athletic did their anonymous player survey
and the answers that we are going to examine
when it comes to the Super Bowl and other things
are worth your time next.
Rahimi Harrison Grody Middays 10 to 2 on 1043
The Score.
Oh, that's appropriate.
Bad Bunny. This is Rahimi Harrison Grotie on 1043
The Score. And
whether or not you like it,
His performing at the Super Bowl has become a topic of conversation.
I'm shocked, I tell you, shocked at someone who is not, how do I put this?
Traditional for some people is drawing a lot of polarizing comments.
You know what the funniest part about it is, by the way?
Tell me.
The concept of A, Puerto Rico not being in American territory, which it is.
I feel like this is a good history lesson, though.
Bad Buddy sings in Spanish, which he does.
Do you know who the Super Bowl halftime performer was last year?
I honestly can't remember.
Rihanna.
Do you know where Rihanna is from?
Trinidad and Tobago.
Well, Kendrick Lamar was last year.
Oh, that's right.
Kendrick Lamar was the year before.
But Rihanna was two years ago.
Yeah.
Kendrick Lamar is squarely from Los Angeles.
But Rihanna was two years ago.
And Rihanna is obviously not
American. Did anybody
complain about Rihanna not being American?
Well, there's a long list of
non-American performers at the halftime
show of the Super Bowl. Right, but
Rihanna's from a Caribbean nation
and everything. And Bad Bunny was actually
in a Super Bowl halftime show. It was when
Shakira was the headliner. She brought
him out. I think this was like early in his career.
Now, people did complain about the
Shakira and J-Lo halftime show.
How could you complain about the
Shakira and J-Lo halftime show?
What is wrong with you if you are
complaining about the Shakira and J-Lo
halftime show. They thought they
shook it too much. They didn't
pass the purity test. Come on.
So this is all connected to
the Athletics Anonymous NFL
player survey. And it wasn't just, by
the way, about the Super Bowl acts.
It was also about
Tom Brady's role, whether or not it was a
conflict of interest, the fact that he's a broadcaster
meeting with teams every week and partial
owner of the Raiders. And
the tush push, which I feel
like Nishon Wright did a lot on his own.
to devalue the tush push.
And credit to Dennis Allen too
because I was absolutely a coaching decision
and strategy decision that they had made.
But I did laugh at the fact that Rihanna
had performed in the Super Bowl two years ago, not one, thank you.
And I'm like, Rihanna's not from here?
Is the who from here?
No, right?
They're British, aren't they?
Is you two from here?
No.
Bruce Springsteen is from New Jersey.
We can't confirm that.
Prince is from Minnesota.
Lake Minnetonka, shout out.
So there's other performers.
But that's kind of the joke in all of this,
is that a friendly reminder,
Puerto Rico is an American territory.
As is Guam, by the way.
Is Paul McCartney from here?
I'm just curious.
No.
Okay.
I see.
You see what I'm doing?
So, and some of these quotes are incendiary,
so much so that the athletic did say,
that they edited because one of the quotes didn't meet the standard.
And I'm pretty sure it might be one of these that was in a previous edition of the article.
Quote, I don't even know who Bad Bunny is, said an NFC offensive player.
I always think it should be an American.
I think they're trying too hard with this international stuff.
Bad Benny is from Puerto Rico, an unincorporated territory of the United States.
I'm so mad these are anonymous comments because this is the first.
That was the only way you were going to get truthful answers.
Some of them, but some of them actually sounded, I don't know, open-minded to things that they weren't used to.
Oh, yeah, there were a couple good ones.
One of the NOC offensive players said, I do not like it.
I prefer anyone who's synonymous with football and football culture.
I feel like there's tons of artists out there who are fans of the game.
What is football culture?
Does that mean they wanted jock jams played at the halftime show?
Is that what we're doing?
I'm trying to understand what that means.
Yeah, is it the band of your favorite university?
Is that that synonymous with football culture, having the band play at halftime?
That's what they actually used to do back in the day, you know?
And an AFC defensive player or an AFC offensive player said, quote,
I think there are better examples of character and morality than bad bunny.
Is that a mic drop or just a phone drop?
How would you describe what you just did?
A mic drop is you said your point.
point. That is not mine by any means.
Oh, okay. He's got billions of
views for his records. He's one
of the largest artists in the world.
He's currently the largest as in the most
streamed artist in the world, period.
Billions. Not millions.
Billions.
Tell me how that CBA thing works again
because they get more money
than more people who watch the games
and stuff. We're seeing reports
that the salary cap might go to as much
as $307 million.
What do you do?
you think that comes from? The idea is to grow the game. And the one thing that alleged racism,
misogyny, among other things, xenophobia, the one thing that can knock that down every time,
green, profits, more money. And I think the NFL is doing a good job of leaning into that
to really open people's minds to new possibilities.
because if this wasn't a money-making thing, it wouldn't happen.
Well, I mean, and this whole halftime outrage thing really started with people blaming Janet Jackson for Justin Timberlake taking her wardrobe off.
Like he physically grabbed her top and pulled off a piece of her wardrobe.
And she got blamed for that.
Is it bad that we're at this level right now where there's been kind of
a reset of what the halftime show means and that it's become so anonymous or sorry,
synonymous with American culture that it has to be a certain type of American in people's eyes.
Well, and that's it.
And that's the whole point is look at a map and understand that Puerto Rico is part of the
United States.
Now, these weren't all the answers.
There were some others that were pretty great.
Added another NFC offensive player.
Heck yeah, it's going to be a good time.
The girls like Bad Bunny.
so of course we're going to like it.
That's what I'm talking about.
And an AFC defensive player says it's a little different,
but I'm a fan of changing things up,
exploring different musical genres.
And an NFC offensive player said,
I think it's pretty awesome.
Some of his music is really good, man.
When I was trading, I heard it in Florida.
I heard his music all the time.
And it's a bop.
That it is.
Now, you can have your own opinions on what you like with music.
Nobody's saying that.
But these weren't the only answers.
Then there were also, who is your dream Super Bowl halftime performer?
And that question was answered as followed.
76 votes.
Michael Jackson got the most.
RIP, 13.
Yeah.
So hologram Michael Jackson, you, they want to see a hologram performer at halftime of the Super Bowl.
I guess they were saying, like, if somebody were to have performed at halftime, they would have liked to do.
This answer should have been stricken from the survey in my opinion.
Wait, wait.
Do you think anybody who was surveyed is old enough to have actually seen Michael Jackson
perform at the Super Bowl in 1993?
It's a great question, Marshall, but I think
Michael Jackson is the type of
artist that transcends, you know, everybody
knows Michael Jackson, no matter what age
you are. That's not one of those artists in my opinion.
I feel like that young
people don't know about, but young people know about Michael Jackson.
You know who is next?
Drake.
So much for the Kendrick Lamar and Drake Beef
King.
Yeah. Drake stands are out there.
This article smartly said
that Drake was somewhat part of the half
time show last year, which I cracked up at. Beyonce was also on the list, Chris Brown and Travis
Scott. Can we talk about the others, though? The ones that only got two votes? Because like,
Chris Brown and Travis Scott each got three votes out of the 76 votes. Yes, we can. Several people
who got multiple votes and players were allowed to vote for multiple artists. Here's who got two
votes. It's an interesting look. It is a propper, a true popery. Justin Bieber, Creed,
Creed.
Yes, Creed.
G. Herbo.
Whitney Houston.
J. Z.
Little Wayne.
M.BA young boy.
Chris Stapleton.
George Strait.
Morgan Wallin.
Rod Wave.
George Strait got two votes?
Listen.
Who's listening to the oldies?
I'm trying to tell you,
this all comes down to parenting.
You can not convince me otherwise.
See, Crete,
now if you want to talk about that phrase
that came up in the survey,
synonymous, you know,
they're synonymous with football culture.
There's a thing that people love creed.
And for me personally, I don't get it.
It's not my thing.
It's Creed football culture.
Is that I think...
It's corporate rock.
It's corporate rock.
That is exactly it.
Like imagine dragons.
Exactly.
What I want to know is the person who said the thing about the football culture,
who in their mind is synonymous with football culture.
Right.
That would have been...
That's the follow up.
You got to, right?
Because like I said, NBA Young Boy.
When he said it, I was thinking...
Sir, his name is NBA.
Apparently.
Jalen Hertz, I read a quote
that he's a big fan of NBA young boy. That was
somebody he said he would like to see.
Jalen Hertz in a post game interview told
Pam Oliver that he was going to listen to some
Anita Baker after the game.
And Pam, Pam,
Pam goes, what do you know about Anita Baker? And I was like,
way to break character, Pam. You know why?
You know why, Leila? Parenting.
The man had solid, foundational
parenting. How do you feel about
Anita Baker? Come on now.
Put some Anita Baker on right
now like come on man same way i feel about big luther like same same aritha it'll never be j z by the way jz
on the list of of some of the other answers it'll never be j z because j z is a part of the he's the
main person that is in charge of selecting who performs is that a conflict of interest i think that's a
conflict of interest earth wind and fire it's it's it is a conflict of interest but it's not because remember
the super bowl halftime show act does not get paid just remember that well and the other part is too is that
So we're running out of time in this segment.
But you know, there are other answers when it came to the discussion and you bring up Tom Brady.
Like, for example, one of the questions in the survey was, are NFL players okay with Tom Brady's dual role as an owner and a broadcaster?
And the quote says here that was pulled, it's just a conflict of interest.
Even if Tom is careful, the optics are not good and it could create an ugly situation down the road.
Another quote says, if he's getting information and sharing it with the Raiders, so what, they
sucked anyway.
And then the next quote says,
teams just have to be mindful of what you tell him,
just like with any broadcaster or reporter.
So that's a good scope and spectrum of answers there
when it comes to how they feel about it.
That is something that you want to know.
Like it's one thing for us to talk about,
but what do they feel about it?
I'm sorry, I got distracted.
Now it goes.
What's happening?
Dale and Terry got flipped.
What?
So we're not we.
I'm like,
so we're not getting.
center? Wait, what's happening now?
The Knicks are sending
Dalantary two second round picks
and cash to the Pelicans for
Grand Theft Alvarado.
Jose Alvarado.
Okay, so that confirms that the Dalantary
trade to the Knicks did happen then.
Correct?
The NBA is so wild
this year that they're trading players who aren't
even actually with the team.
Yeah, sometimes they...
Like Usman,
Jane's like, wait, how can I get traded by the Hornets if I'm still with the thunder?
Well, sometimes they make the trade and they agree to the terms.
They're like, hold up.
Let's see if we can get another team in on this.
And so that's how it becomes a three team or four team even deal as it progresses.
So wait a second.
Okay.
The Knicks are sending two second round picks alongside Dale and Terry.
I was like, Jose Alvarado and two seconds.
No, no.
That was never happening.
Sorry if I wasn't clear on that.
I was just reading the straight Shams tweet.
You were.
I was just impressed that Daly and Terry was one traded at all and then two part of a flip.
He's an expiring contract at the end of the day.
Amazing.
We should also point this out.
One of the Shams bombs that came across was him saying that the Milwaukee Bucks have indicated to teams that they are keeping Janus through the trade deadline and we'll start making other trades.
So what happens to Sabonis then?
Does he become the biggest big man name that's out there possibly?
If Janus and Jha, both aren't getting traded
and the Pelicans have been
not willing to trade Zion Williams and then, yeah, I guess
Sabonis is, and the thing is... No, Zion's probably
still the biggest, right? It's Zion and then Sabon?
I don't think the pelicans are willing to trade Zion, though.
That's the thing. At the deadline,
they might look at him in the offseason, but I think
everybody's saying, okay, we looked around,
we're just going to hold.
Because also when you trade in the
off season, Leila, this is the big thing.
You know where everyone's draft capital is. You know what
those picks mean in 2026 that you don't write the second.
Also, yeah, I'm sorry that I forgot about Kendrick O'Marr.
That was the Super Bowl I watched on Tooby.
I was in Thailand at the time.
And our signal was going in and out.
Shout out to Toby, man.
You get some good movies on.
Toby has great content.
The funniest was that.
Everybody's like, how are we going to get the Super Bowl?
How are we going to do this?
And I was like, guys, I got it.
It's on Tooby.
and I thought of you immediately, Ray.
Those Tooby movies, they're a thing.
Hey, do yourself a favor.
Lela, how did you know about the Super Bowl on Tooby?
Do yourself a favor.
If it's a Saturday night or something,
you're looking for something to do,
but you don't want to go out,
go ahead and throw on Tooby, put a movie on.
It's some interesting independent movies on Tooby, man.
Is Velocepaster on it?
Velocaster, you see what I'm talking about?
These are the movies.
Okay.
We got to bring back,
We got it's time.
Now the football season's over, we got to bring back the movie club.
I think the loss of pastor should be on the list.
You guys will not be disappointed.
I don't know that we can get Grady on board with movie club.
He couldn't even follow the one assignment we've given him so far.
He's doing this now out of petulence.
Yeah, basically.
All right, it's time for halftime here in Rahimi Harris and Grady.
You, which story do you want to tell us about?
Which one do you want?
You know the two stories?
No, it's your research.
You get to pick.
You know what?
Vending machines, some would say they're passe.
I would say vending machines like all of us have evolved.
Machine.
What time is it?
It's halftime.
I'm laughing at our text line because we know now that the average age of our listener is 58.
And sometimes you can just tell.
We talked about the NFL player survey and we got entertained by some of the answers.
and also to the cool people and to people who are just respectfully disagreeing and don't cuss at us.
You don't count in this. You're timeless.
We also talked for the 10 o'clock hour about what direction the bulls were going in as we tried to figure out,
are they any closer to who they want to be as a team making all these deals?
And did they get enough in return for Iyotosumu when they made that trade for four first round picks alongside with Phillips?
and I don't, you and I are both kind of on the fence as to whether or not they did.
I don't like the deal.
I wanted them to re-sign I-O, straight up.
Yeah, so that's fair.
That is a question of what that trade was worth and what it netted.
But a lot of that has to do with my lack of faith, my lack of confidence in the current front office
based on the moves that they have made since becoming the front office.
And we talked to Olin-Cruits at 11 o'clock, not just about what was going on the offensive line,
but also just the discussion with the Bears coaching staff
and talk to him about joining the college football Hall of Fame.
So great to chat with Olin as well.
To be clear, I agree with Olin because that's the guy I have faith and confidence
is when he talks football because he knows what he's talking about.
And he understands that biases exist.
He's operating from a place where a lot of people won't even begin to operate from.
So I appreciate you, Olin.
Thank you so much for coming on the show.
Albert Breer
On the 1st of February
tweeted this
At the airport
And not sure if I should be impressed
Or disgusted
That was the tweet
Accompanying said tweet
Was a picture
The picture
Was of
A giant machine
That looks like a vending machine
And on the side of the vending machine
It said
White Castle
home of the original slider.
Machine, you say.
And I was like, wait, what?
Is there someone in the machine?
I'm so confused right now.
I would love if there was someone in the machine,
a White Castle employee.
It's almost like the Taco Bell,
Duvante Adams Taco Bell,
but it's at the airport and it's White Castle.
Yes.
So, like, if you've seen the Devante Adams commercials
with Taco Bell in his house,
wherever he is, even after he gets traded,
he always seems to have a Taco Bell in his CASA.
So I was like,
let me find out more about this.
And I find this headline.
White Castle Automated Kiosk debuts at Logan Airport.
That's in Boston, by the way.
They put it in the Boston airport?
It will serve sliders in under two minutes.
What?
Do we believe that?
Listen, it exists.
See, I thought I didn't realize these were hot and ready sliders.
I thought you were getting like, yo, yo, when you get to where you're going to, put it in the microwave.
That's what I thought this was.
No.
Vending machine, machine?
Let me read this to you.
It's a one-minute read.
Boston Logan, welcome to a surprising new arrival
an automated White Castle slider kiosk.
At first glance, it might look like your average airport vending machine.
But instead of coffee or phone chargers,
this one dispenses hot sliders in under two minutes.
According to a December release,
the kiosk was developed with food tech partners,
just baked and evolve vending,
and offer several of White Castle's most popular items,
the 100% beef original,
slider, the classic cheese sliders, cheddar bacon cheese slider, and the chicken and cheese
slider.
That's what I call variety.
Travelers can find it in the Terminal A satellite concourse directly across from the children's play
area.
Also, this is a nice location because kids get hungry and they're going to see that slider machine
and be like, can I get a slider?
Machine.
Sarah Paulson, Director of Retail Marketing, Innovation, and Licensing at White Castle says
this, quote, our retail division has bringing sliders to create.
out of restaurants for nearly 40 years.
End quote.
The launch comes after White Castle continues to lean into automation and robotics.
The company worked with Miso Robotics on its newest AI-powered Fry Station robot,
Flippy.
Yeah, that's the name of the robot.
And announced over the summer a new robot delivery service for some of its Uber Eats
orders in Chicago.
Well, yeah, they got that little, what's it called Coco?
the little like white wagon on wheels that delivers by itself,
but then it gets stuck in the snow.
That's sad.
I've seen that.
I've seen that on the social media as well.
People clear out the snow for the thing, but you know,
they just didn't think it through.
Well, yeah, they need more stuff.
So my question is this.
Is this something that could work in Chicago?
Well, 847 says if they bring this vending machine to O'Hare,
you all are invited to my impending funeral.
Wow.
So there you have it.
There's one person that thinks it'll work.
I will say this.
Go ahead.
I do love certain foods at airports that I may or may not eat more or less of in real life.
Give me an example.
Like my ratio of eating McDonald's breakfast in real life versus McDonald's breakfast at O'Hare is out of whack.
Like McDonald's breakfast at O'Hare hits.
There are several McDonald's at O'Hare, especially if you're in the, what was that,
the terminal C?
Yeah, I believe that's where they're at, yeah.
Yeah, the one for the American Airlines Terminals also hop in.
The point is, McDonald's Breakfast at O'Hare hits.
It's a luxury.
It's a treat.
And I get McDonald's breakfast every now and then, like, out and about in life.
But the ratio is much higher at an airport.
I had McDonald's breakfast this very morning.
You did.
I didn't know what you were putting on your biscuit.
You said it was strawberry jam.
It was delicious.
But so I think in this case, if you get something that makes you feel good at the airport
and then it becomes like part of your airport tradition or your flow,
then I feel like that's part of how this gets affected.
6-3-0 wants to know is Harold and Kumar inside?
Good question.
That's a great question.
That's a valid question.
773 says we're thinking about next year's halftime show.
They should just bring out Hector Neris to throw batting practice to rate of football players.
They would crush him.
signed Crazy Dave.
Crazy Dave.
You're coming to Hector Narris out of left field with that.
Wow.
And I present the Super Bowl halftime show.
Hector Narris versus football players.
I once saw JJ Watt take batting practice.
The ball never landed.
Like ever.
I don't even know where it went.
I'm pretty sure disintegrated.
2-6-2.
Marshall, have you met a child?
Toddlers don't eat sliders, but their parents do.
Corey in Whitewater, Wisconsin.
I didn't know it was just toddlers who were allowed at the play area.
I thought any kids of any age could be at the play area.
847 at O'Hare, they should just put it next to the bathroom.
So you can just...
Oh, you want to finish that?
So you can just throw it in the toilet because White Castle usually ends up there in 14 minutes.
That's a very specific time.
So specific.
This goes back to our bidet conversation yesterday.
Shout out TGI Fridays.
Some of you guys are funny.
A lot of them are funny.
You know what?
I know.
We have way more funny.
people that offended people.
Yeah.
If you didn't laugh, you would cry after the Bulls did what they did this week.
We'll see how it turns out.
More moves to come.
6-30. People go nuts for McDonald's at O'Hare.
I don't know what it is.
It just works.
Ray, I thought you were agreeing with me.
Are you just telling me we got to go to Brae?
Both.
I agree.
And it is time for five on it.
So both.
All right.
Both.
Next.
The score.
This hour is brought to you by vasectomy clinics of Chicago.
I got five.
It's time for five on it.
Rahini Harrison Rooney.
Bring you five topics on their minds today.
On 104-3 to score.
I got five on it.
Number one.
The NBA trade deadline is today at two, but it seems like a bulk of the bull's moves are obviously done.
If that is indeed the case and our terrorist kind of showvis and company, Stan Pat, the rest of the way,
what letter grade are you giving the Bulls for their moves?
Marshall loves that question.
Take it away, Marshall.
Professor Marshall, what grade are you giving the Bull?
If they don't do another move after this to where they are right now,
they're getting a D plus.
They're getting a D plus.
Here's why they're getting a D plus.
They're getting D plus because if you look at their roster
as it's currently constructed right now
and Billy Donovan doing what?
what he does. They're going to win more games.
They're not going to win it. They're going to win too many games to tank, is what you're saying.
Not just too many games to tank, but also explain to me what they're going to have at the end
of the season when all of the contracts that they traded away, they're expiring contracts for,
also expire. I'm looking at you, Anthony Simons. I'm looking at you, Colin Sexton.
They gave Josh getting more money because they wanted to.
True, true. I don't have as much problem with Giddy as some people do because it's still $25 million for your lead point guard who's going to average close to a triple double regardless of who you put around him. That's just who he is. And I know the defensive liability is there. The problem is if you still have Jalen Smith starting at center. If you still have Isaac Akoro and Mattis Buzellas. If you still have fill in the blank with whoever you want to put beside Josh Giddy, you're going to be okay.
Mac McLung.
And in a world where there's already 10 to 12 other teams tanking way harder than you,
you're going to come up with wins that you don't want to come up with.
Well, that's it.
It's that they can tank for the Bulls,
but tanking for the Bulls is not necessarily tanking as to what it looks like for the rest of the league.
Like, keep in mind, an Achilles injury has made the team that nearly won the NBA finals in the Pacers.
now one of the worst teams in the league.
That's what you're up against when it comes to losing and trying to do this in a way that gives you the better chance.
The saddest part is what it came down to last time, which was the coin flip for the first overall pick and it went to the Mavericks because of the tiebreakers.
That's the saddest part.
Like, do you think the Bulls are going to get any closer to that chance again?
You know what's sadder than that?
If the Bulls had won that tiebreaker and if they had picked Cooper Flag, do you still trust our
Church, Karnas Chavez, and Mark Eversley to make the moves to surround that young
core with players good enough to properly develop him?
Yeah, because they had Yokits in Denver and AK was the assistant GM.
Like, if you've got the star of All-Stars, like if you've got that guy, then life
becomes infinitely easier in the league.
I don't know that I trust them to make the right moves.
Concerning these same players we're talking about, Kobe White, Iota Suma, Vooch,
does Vouch get moved?
Like, are we dealing with the same type of deadline?
That's my point.
If you get Cooper flag.
They probably try to win now based on that group.
Exactly.
And that would have been a mistake with that group.
That's the problem.
Vooch is old.
He cannot play defense.
You got to have a team like the Celtics with all these defenders to be able to build a chance.
We're talking about championship, not just get into the playoffs.
But you're also talking about the difference of like four months when you consider that Vooch's contract was up at the end of the year.
Like you're assuming that Vooch would have been extended in that scenario.
Oh, I hope not.
But you see what I'm saying?
Like his contract was up anyway.
Yeah, but you still should get something for him.
That's all I'm saying.
You should read.
So what Dallas is doing right now with Cooper Flag is perfect.
They're letting him go out there and do all the things.
You know what else they're doing?
They're losing, so they're going to have somebody else to put beside him this coming off season.
Yeah, it sounds so strange and counterintuitive,
but it really does take work to lose enough to be guaranteed those chances.
And it also takes having a stable of drafts that you can use for somebody.
else. And now the question becomes, is that somebody else to Monta Savonis? And that's where
I sit with us. And the answer to that is a stern no. But what's the grade? I think for me the
grade is like a B. Maybe like a B minus because they got draft picks. Okay. I would have
liked to have seen a first round draft pick. That would have changed it for me. But they are,
they are doing the right things. And like, I would have kept I.O. But I think they are doing the
things that they needed to get out of some of these expiring deals. It was just, they waited too
long. My D-plus is based more on still not having a sense of direction. But like this question
was based on if nothing changes between now and two. So I'm just answering it. Come back to me after
the deadline. I might have a different answer for the grade. Number two. On Wednesday, the
tribunes Brad Biggs reported that the Bears will hire former Dolphins running backs coach Eric
Studsville for the same position on Ben Johnson's staff. On a scale of one to 10, on a scale of one to 10,
the confidence meter, trademark, where would you rate your level of confidence that Studeville
will pick up where Eric B. Enemy left off? Well, Studeville has work experience with Ben Johnson
in Miami. So I think because of that, he knows who he's getting. And therefore, I have a high
level of confidence. I would say this is out of seven or eight for me, because you already have
an established pattern with known personnel, both on your offensive line to block for them and your
running backs who are going to be in that room. So given that you'll be in Kyle Menongai's second year,
given that DeAndre Swift will be in somewhat of a privy year yet again coming off of a career
year for him, I like the confidence of knowing who you're getting and the coach you're hiring
combined with all of those other things. For me, I'm going to give him a nine. One, I trust Ben Johnson.
He's given me no reason not to trust him at this point. Two, this is a guy who has an extensive
resume when you talk about
coaching guys who have had very successful
seasons in the past.
Marshawn Lynch, Willis McGahey,
C.J. Anderson, Rahim Mostard,
all Pro Bowl seasons playing
for Studsville. He's also
been there for guys who have gotten
1,000-yard seasons such as
Willis McGahey, the aforementioned,
Tiki Barber, also,
Noshan Marino,
Fred Jackson, one of my favorites,
obviously, Anderson,
Mostert, and Devon,
A. Chan.
A. Chan.
I like the opportunity here for them to just keep going with the guy, especially if they do decide to upgrade that running back room.
Five on it.
Number three.
Friend of the show and Take the North podcast co-host, Dan Weider, dropped a new piece for the athletic this week.
And, you know, this is what it's called.
We know we'll do like things with five in it on the midday show.
Five on it.
Clearly.
Five key questions ahead of free agency.
and the NFL draft.
This question is inspired by Weedzie.
Weezy!
What are the Bears' top three needs this off season?
And I would like you guys to please rank them in order of importance.
Layla and Marshall.
The Bear salary cap situation needs to be rectified.
A lot of it is because they spit a lot of money
on an aspect of the team that I still think is their biggest needs.
edge rusher.
Edge rusher's number one for me.
Also, you know what's number two?
You might think it's something else.
It's safety.
Do you know why?
All of their safeties are free agents.
All of them.
Like all the ones you're familiar with,
the two and then the two back on the depth chart.
So because of that,
you're going to have to sign somebody to that position.
In fact, you might have to sign four people
to that position or draft one.
You get my drift.
safety is a you have to address it.
That position wise and the fact that roster wise,
that might be your biggest need just because you've got to acquire people to fill the position
given that everybody came up at the same time.
But it's eddrescher, it's safety, and then it's left tackle.
Because Ozzie Tripilla's injury is serious.
And it can debilitate some careers in the NFL.
Thank goodness he's young.
So he can at least be a little more flexible.
Both with the body and with the timeline.
But Theo Benedict is here your answer?
You know, Braxton Jones is also coming up with a contract question.
So do you extend Braxton Jones like a one-year permit?
What do you do?
So edge-reacher, safety, left tackle.
Okay.
I'm freezing in here.
Because of the way you answered the back end of that question
is why I'm starting there with my number one priority being left tackle.
I don't want any questions about this offensive line.
I love the fact that
the only time we had questions about the offensive line
is when the left tackle went down.
To know that from one position in from the left
all the way over to the right, they were good,
I like that idea.
Let's address left tackle off the top
and let Ben Johnson's offense with Caleb Williams
still developing and all those weapons he has.
Let them go out there and score 30 points a game.
Let's just start with that.
You're going to be in all the games if you score 30 points a game.
If they score 30 points a game, they're arguably,
if they average 30, it doesn't.
Isn't that put them in the top three of the NFL?
Yeah, that's the goal.
Yeah.
That's the goal.
That's what Ben Johnson's used to as a play caller,
having an offense that is in the top three.
So that's where I'm starting.
Next up, just give me somebody who can get to the quarterback.
I don't care if it's an edge rusher.
I don't care if it's an upgraded defensive tackle.
Somebody's got to get to the quarterback.
There has to be a reasonable threat that on obvious passing downs,
your dude is getting sacked.
So that's number two.
At least disrupt the time.
Timing.
Yes.
Something.
And number three.
So I guess I went in reverse order.
Did I go on reverse order?
Safety?
Did you go safety first?
Safety was second for me.
Okay.
So same three, just in different order.
I'm going to go with safety.
You probably need to know who's playing at your free and your strong safety.
You probably need to know.
Confidently, you ask Ryan Poles.
So who's safety on your team, any of them?
And then we'll name check Kevin Byard and say we hope to bring him back.
Kevin, Kevin nailed the elevator pitch.
Kevin Byers is going to be a savvy businessman after he leaves the league.
Why not both right now?
Yeah, he could be.
He could do both, absolutely.
The business of Bayard has never been better.
Number four.
This week, the New York Post, Joel Sherman, suggested that the idea of the Cubs
trading second baseman Nico Horner is still a possibility.
The Cubs were open to moving Horner at points during this off season,
especially after the signing of Alex Bregman that could allow Matt
Shaw to shift to second base. Sherman goes on to say he is due $12 million for 2026 before becoming a
free agent. And the Cubs could have to get a strong return considering dealing him. So,
Sherman also called Horner, an ideal candidate for the Yankees. So there's a possibility the
Red Sox are interested in him as well. On a scale of 1 to 10 on the he gone meter,
where would you rate the likelihood of a Nico Horner trade?
Three on the Higon meter.
And I'm going back to the interview that Jed Hoyer did graciously with David Haw and Bruce Levine at Cubs Convention on Inside the Clubhouse.
And I took some rough notes and he talked about the interest in trading for Nico and developing the relationships with the players who you develop when they come up with your team.
and he's like, of course teams are calling because he's really good.
I have to do my job.
I have to listen.
That's what he told him.
And he said he wouldn't be doing his job if he didn't listen.
And he's right.
You have to listen to every possible deal because you never know when you can get a
real steal.
And we don't know every trade that's discussed.
And just like we do on this show, that's what GMs do.
Like they start with the ideal trade and then go from there.
So I understand he's.
going to field calls, and I know he should.
But I would hope that it's got to be a really high price on somebody who is such a reliable
piece of your lineup this year.
And Matt Shaw, when he got regular reps, did improve.
There's no doubt about that.
That's what kind of worries me as well as is how dedicated is this team to making sure
Shaw gets regular reps so he stays in that hitting vein.
You know, we've gotten various reports about him as to whether or not he was coachable,
came out through the athletic a couple weeks ago.
But you've got to balance getting your established guys who are consistent who can produce
good time.
And then also trying to get somebody who you think has offensive promise enough reps and
enough at bats to be able to do so.
Ideally for Matt Shaw, if he can learn to play, I don't know, outfield, that would help.
But like, let that guy get 100 starts.
Everybody doesn't need to play every day.
These players aren't 22, 23 years old.
that he'd be subbing in for.
I think on the he gone meter.
I didn't say that right.
He gone!
There we go.
There we go.
How did that happen where we said it like that at the same time?
I'm a wizard.
He is a wizard.
You really are.
Tyler Bedarbar, as my colleague Marguerty often says, truly a beaut.
Listen, put me at a 2.5.
Because could he be gone?
Yes.
Do I expect him be gone?
Absolutely not, but you never know what's going to happen.
Is there anybody who's like a zero on the Higone meter?
Yes, Ian Hap.
He has a no trade clause.
That would be Ian Hap.
I have engineered my own zero on the Higon meter.
Probably Alex Bregman.
Also, he just signed him.
Yes.
Well, for me, he's a 0.1 because crazy things happen sometimes.
Fair enough.
But yeah, 2.5 is where I'm going to put it.
I don't expect him to be gone.
You never know what can happen.
They really need to figure it out.
if they can resign this guy and resign Nico Horner.
I like him as a cornerstone for that team,
or really any team, because
Nico Horner is that dude.
I mean, if the Giants are like, hey, we really want him.
He's from the Bay Area.
We'll give you Raphael Devers.
You're like, hmm, interesting.
Number five.
It's a ridiculous trade.
It's not real. I made it up.
It's five on it on 104.
The score with Lailoraheimia and Marshall Harrison.
We have a very pressing question for question number five.
Was Pit Bull really at the?
Spurs Thunder game last night?
Because
I tuned in to that game in the fourth quarter
and it was an action
pack game and at a certain point
before they went to a commercial break
the announcer, the camera goes to the crowd
and there's a guy dressed like pit bull
a bald Latino dude
with sunglasses in a suit
he did resent oh and
yes, Lila and
and the you know the very
distinct mustache.
The Fubanchu combination.
Yeah.
The chin beard and then the mustache.
Lined up just like Pitbull.
And the announcers said
even Pit Bull's excited or something along those lines.
Like they called out Pitbull by name.
The only thing about this situation is
the guy was not sitting courtside.
He was like up in the crowd amongst the
jackals, what they're called.
The group.
that Victor Wenbanyama has called for
to be kind of like soccer-style fans
that are constantly making noise throughout the game.
Maybe you wanted an authentic NBA experience.
He really does look like Pitbull.
Does that mean you think he is Pitbull?
No, because I did some work on the topic
and texted my buddy Hector,
who is a sportscaster in San Antonio.
What did Hector say?
Hector goes, could be wrong,
but I don't think that was him.
Was there last night in my seat?
for most of the game. So he didn't see the
broadcast and the PA
guy didn't recognize him. A quick check of
social media doesn't show anything other than a couple
of tweets asking that it was him.
And I go, well, if you need a kicker, you know, like the little
fun thing at the end of your show, that might
be the one because they kept calling him pit bull on
the air. Thanks for letting me know. And then he goes
ESPN did it? And I'm like, yeah.
Yeah, it was at least one time, but it
was one time enough where the camera was
isolated on the man and they said it
was pit bull. They didn't say, is this
pit bull. They said, this is pit bull.
I wonder if the director said that's Pitbull and he just went with it.
Or it was in a joking manner.
It was not in a joking manner.
It was very serious.
It was like serious.
Like even Pit Bull's loving it.
I mean, it could have been, but it didn't sound like it to me.
It sounded like they really thought that was Pitbull.
And the other thing, as you said, Leila, when you do do the check on social media and ask the question,
was Pitbull at the Spurs game, you could search the Spurs social media accounts.
Don't you think if Pitbull,
was at the game, they would have put something out there, some kind of picture of him. They did not.
That's what the Bulls do. The Bulls are like in the house. And then they'll play some clip. And then
that's how you know who's in the house. Every team does it because it's the smart thing to do.
So yeah, A, the man wasn't sitting courtside. Mr. Worldwide is going to have a courtside seat.
And B, there's no official social media pictures from the team's account. So I think ESPN got
got on that one. And they just called another Latino dude.
that wanted to get on camera and knew what he had to do.
Dress like Pitbull, get on camera.
I listen to Pitbull.
That's what I did.
Next thing you know,
they're going to be saying that Pitbull from Miami is an American
and shouldn't be performing at the halftime show.
Or does Pitbull because he wears a suit
and is in it off commercials qualified under corporate rock?
I mean, sort of.
I mean, Pitbull has his own stadium now.
He sure does in Florida.
That's right.
That's where Tampa plays.
I think that's Tampa, yeah.
If there's anybody who totally wants,
won the day on dress for the job you want, not the job you have.
Is it not Pitbull for constantly wearing a suit?
Always.
I've thought about that a lot.
Club ready, meeting ready, whatever you need ready.
And I'll just end my observations of the fake pit bull by saying one word.
D'Ale.
I did ask you, was he counting to four?
And I asked you if he was counting to four in both English and Spanish.
Did I not?
You did.
You did.
Because if we were, then we would have really known.
but he would have been Corside.
I hear he's trying to make a comeback.
He is going on tour,
and the tour is coming to Tinley Park.
He's going on a tour with Liljohn,
and I'm very excited about this.
I would go to that show.
And the East Side Boys?
No, it's just, I think it's just Lil John.
Oh, okay.
More details to come, I'm sure.
I also would go to that concert.
Tinley Park, Leila, we got to do it.
I know, we do.
I'm coming up next here on Rahimi Harrison-Rody on 670, the score.
asking a lot of questions about the Bulls. Well, guess what? We have somebody who can answer them.
Like, who's playing tonight? Julia Poe made the trip to Toronto. She will join us next.
The beat writer for the Chicago Tribute on the score.
Harrison Grody. Can you imagine Lovey Smith doing the whole good, better, best thing?
And saying bleep the Packers. Come on, guys, good better best. Never let it rest. I'll see you on Tuesday.
Middays 10 to 2 on 104 3, the score.
He's got 18 and all the way to the cup and a vicious right-handed slam.
Iyo Doseumu in the grill of Pete Nance.
And that's just running the floor.
And unfortunately, Iodosumu is no longer a Chicago Bull, that courtesy of our Bulls Radio Network.
We now go to the Circa Sports Illinois hotline.
Download the Circus Sports app today to talk.
about I.O. and more as the Bulls are busy at this trade deadline. It is the Bulls and Skybeat
writer for the Chicago Tribune. Julia Poe, who joins us from Toronto and she's on Twitch.
Twitch.tv.tv. slash the score Chicago. Hey, Julia, thanks for joining us. Hey, guys, how's it going?
I just had to make sure I had not also gotten traded while this is happening. It's been,
it's been a pretty crazy day here. Julia, you would fetch a first rounder. Let's not get it
twisted.
Several, multiple first rounders.
No second round picks for Julia.
We're not taking in those protected picks either.
We want the straight up thing.
We want our entry into the lottery.
Speaking of, Julia, are the Bulls tanking?
It certainly looks like it.
I mean, this is as big of a deadline dump as I think a team can really do.
You know, looking at the list right now, they've got, I believe,
eight players total have been sent out.
They have sent out the majority of their expiring contracts.
And this is what a nosedive looks like.
You know, you take a lot of guys that are on expiring deals and you get them moved.
Some of them kind of going for a lower price tag than I think the Bulls necessarily would have wanted.
And you trade arguably one of your top three best players to the team that is chasing you for a play in tournament spot.
I think that counts as, you know, committing to at least a short term tank.
Yeah, Julia, that's what we're trying to figure out.
because we brought this up in our 10 o'clock hour of the show,
and that was fresh off of the news about I'd assume of being traded away.
Part of a trade involving four second round picks and Julian Phillips,
and we were even discussing whether or not that was selling a little bit low
when it came to IOS value.
You know, what do you think of the return?
Yeah, I think that the first three moves of this deadline,
there's been six total.
I think the first three, which were the Voochovich trade, the herder trade, and then tagging
Emmanuel Miller into that three-team deal with Sacramento for the second rounders, all of those
made a lot of sense to me.
And then about midway through the week, I think the Bulls have veered in a direction that I am
struggling to follow.
I think that the return on Iodosimnu was much lower than what there was ever an understanding
of the Bulls trying to get for him.
I think that the return for Kobe White was a little bit lower.
than and just different than what was expected for the Bulls to go for.
And I straight up don't understand.
I know it's a smaller one,
but I straight up don't understand the Dalin Terry trade for Yabu Sele.
So I think things have gotten a little bit convoluted here,
a little bit messier maybe than preferred.
And that makes this whole idea of doing a short-term tank.
It makes it sting a lot harder and a lot worse when the players that are being traded away
are players like I.O. and Kobe who have meant so much to this franchise.
guys. Yeah, Julia, that's a point that we were making, too, was remember this time last year at the
trade deadline when Arturis Carnishovas talked about getting nine or ten, what we gather was,
depending on the word you want to use, formidable players, better than role player players,
really good players, however you want to. He said really good, I think. Yeah, really good,
but, you know, formidable, whatever you want to say that that's higher than role player, but not
max contract is essentially how I took it. When you consider that message that he gave based on
now what we're seeing, you know, how do you compare and contrast the two?
Yeah, I think that when you look back at kind of the timeline of the last year, it's confusing.
I think if this is where the Bulls were always going to end up, which is not investing in a long-term
future with Iodosunu, with Kobe White, even just with Vucovich not being usable in terms of, you know,
this is a season that is now being thrown away.
if this was always going to be a throwaway season and always going to be a season about truly just fully investing in the future, why weren't these trades made a year ago?
Why was, you know, I don't want to say wasting time because maybe that's a little bit harsh, but why was there this wavering over the summer and at last year's deadline of kind of needing more time to figure out if I.
and Kobe were going to be these investment pieces.
It was very clear at this point last year that they were not,
that they were always going to be building block pieces,
that their future was definitely not cemented,
definitely not for sure or certain the way that maybe Josh Giddy or Modis Bezellis
is.
I do not understand why this took so long.
And I really do fear for the bulls that they just lost a lot of value
by kind of waiting a year and rolling the dice
and just kind of continuing to pump the brakes in this way that has been,
you know, really a calling.
card for Arturus Karnas Chavez throughout his entire time in Chicago.
Julia Poe joining us from Toronto where the Bulls will take on the Raptors tonight.
We don't know exactly who's going to be available in the starting line.
Maybe you can clear that up for us.
Julia, of course, the Bulls and Sky B-Wrider for the Chicago Tribune.
Who was there at Shootaround and who is available as far as you know?
Yeah, it is going to be a little bit of a skeleton crew, which has become very familiar over the last
week. One interesting note is that Jaden Ivy is there, was able to shoot around, will be available
tonight. We were able to speak with him, just get to know him a little bit better as an introduction
today. I heard a lot of good things from him just about kind of how he's approaching this process,
but they're going to have to call in reinforcements. You know, Mack McClung is in on a two-way
contract right now. Yuki Kawamura has been playing a decent amount of minutes. This is very much just
kind of a grinded out, get-through type of situation as the Bulls try.
to get the calls in, get these deals over the line, and then get guys into town.
Anthony Simons was another player who was at shoot-around this morning, and although he couldn't
speak with us because the deal was not through at that time, that is another player who
is physically here in Toronto and could maybe be available.
Okay, so this is where I'm confused, because I'm assuming that Simons could still be flipped.
I'm assuming Ivy is a guy who is going to be here because he is a restrictive free agent.
They can control his future.
So walk me through this.
Help me understand why the Bulls, if this is...
a tank, why get these players, specifically Simons is who I'm really focused on here.
I think he's a better offensive weapon than Kobe when healthy, and I think he's healthier
than Kobe White is right now. It feels like they could still win a whole bunch of games with
the guys that they have right now coming back in these deals. Yeah, I think, like you said,
there's a little bit of time left. The Bulls are still active. They're going to be active right
up until the moment that the commissioner says pencils down at three o'clock today.
So that is something to just kind of keep in mind and keep an eye on.
I think that you're definitely right that there is, I think Ivy Simons are two players who are a good example of,
you know, definitely players who can make an impact early on.
But I still think that when you look specifically at what they've done to the front court
and kind of where the front court is at right now, bring in some players like Dillingham, like Diyang,
who maybe have just not been able to play very.
very much at all in their young careers.
These are situations where I do think that you're seeing the Bulls take a significant
enough step back that they believe that they are going to be able to duck out of the
plan tournament.
But you're not wrong.
This is the problem with doing all of this, the deadline.
They won too many games at the start of the year to make this a very effective tank job.
Like they just can't lose enough games.
I was looking at kind of the standings of that earlier.
All they're doing is improving on the margins.
All they are doing is moving up in the lottery as much as they can if they are committing to a tank job here.
But they're not in a good situation where they can really fully like nose dive down and be competing for solid odds in the top four.
And that is a really frustrating position to put yourself in.
It's just that middle ground.
It's a lot of middle ground in Chicago.
No, it is, Julia.
And it also just, part of this is I think the move, the Daly and Terry Tray that you brought up that Nets back a,
center who I guess would be, would he be the starting center in this case for this team?
Or do you think that ends up being Lachlan Ulbrook?
I understand trading for a position of need.
But in doing so, I think they also communicated how they feel about some of their draft picks
when you consider the return.
You know, that's one that I want you to dive a little deeper on with us and just think out
loud as to what that was, I get it, but then I also think it's a shift when you consider
how you're valuing your players or how you understand the league.
values them and then what you plan on doing with picks like that.
Like even though Essenge comes to mind when I consider how they move Daly
yeah, I like I said, I don't understand that one.
I really am looking forward to our conversation that media will get to have with
Arturis later today.
I would love to get a little more insight into that one.
It does not make sense for a variety of reasons.
Yabusele has a player option next year that he will absolutely pick up.
He is 30.
so he does not fit the timeline that the Bulls are trying to fit into of like 23 and under being the ideal age range with, you know, maybe up to 25, 26 also being cool and working in with that group.
He's well outside of that.
And I don't know how he fits in with this group.
The Bulls have really enjoyed playing a double big lineup.
They feel like that's the best version of themselves.
Are you going to lean into the best version of yourself if you are trying to maybe be a little bit less competitive?
I don't know.
So I think this creates a very confusing lineup where, you know,
they like playing Jalen Smith at the four.
They like playing Modis Bezellis at the three.
If you do that, maybe that means that you're committing to, again,
a 30-year-old undersized center.
I do not understand this one.
I'm not going to pretend to understand this one.
Maybe it will make more sense if different pieces of it, you know,
fall into place, but I just think that that one's a real head scratcher, honestly.
Julia, follow me with this.
I think they're playing a very dangerous game of roulette, musical chairs, hot potato,
however you wanted to find it, because they think they can continue to make moves before
2 o'clock.
I mean, we're less than 90 minutes away from this thing being over and done with.
And if they don't, and they get caught holding the proverbial bag, it's going to be very bad.
And I don't think, A.K. Mark Eversley and company, they're not going to have good enough answers
for what has transpired.
As you said, they start off with good, prudent, regular, normal GM moves,
and now it looks like they have devolved into something else entirely.
Yeah, I think that we are now in the worst case scenario for any front office,
which is they have to get lucky.
And that is a thing that can happen.
Teams get lucky very often.
Look at the Dallas Mavericks.
But luck is going to come into play here,
which is that they are going to be able to marginally,
improve their draft odds.
And then if that hits, and then if they actually draft well, which as Lila brought up
is not necessarily the most proven thing in their track record so far, if they're able to
do those things, then I think fans by the end of the summer will be able to come away from
this feeling a lot better at this time.
I think, and again, I know emotions are not necessarily how you need to be making decisions
here.
But when you look at what some of these players, Kobe Y, I, Ode, assuming, when you look at what
they meant to the fan base, you want to at least be able to kind of point at it and say,
look, I know this is heartbreaking. We're going to miss these guys so much. But look at what we're
doing with their value. Look at where we are moving the franchise with that. Right now, unless
something drastic changes in the next 90 minutes, I just don't think they're going to have anything
that they can point to that the average Bulls fan is going to say, okay, that's worth losing Kobe
and I over. And that's a really, really tough spot to be in. Now, I think what you say makes a lot of
sense and those are the two people who I think a lot of people think of when they think about
what this team looks like when it's been successful on the floor.
Julia Poe, thanks for telling us who is available at shoot around anywhere.
Who is there?
Maybe not media available, but at least we know who's out there.
Yeah, thanks, thanks guys.
I hope everyone's looking forward to my five minutes off the bench tonight.
I'm going to get up as many shots as Billy will let me.
No, shoot.
Shoot a shoot.
Do it.
Hey, you know what I say?
I got six fouls to give.
So if you want to go ahead and take a few shots,
I think together we will create some sort of team.
Thank you, Julia.
We've got this.
Thank you guys.
Appreciate it.
That's Julia Poe.
You can check out her work on Blue Sky.
She's also at the Chicago Tribune, of course.
And she covers both the Cubs and the Cubs, the Bulls and the Sky for the Chicago Tribune.
So now we at least know who's there.
That's good.
That's a step up.
And the deal gets done.
Simons is available.
Ivy is available.
And then the Bulls have way more firepower than they had yesterday.
or the last time out, and you could argue with no Fooch in the middle playing Olae defense,
they could put together a better performance than you think.
I'm not saying they're going to win tonight, but I wouldn't be surprised if they did.
I mean, I get trading for a center because you needed one, Yabusele.
But she's right.
Like the age and the fact that that option gets picked up.
Again.
But they traded Dale and Terry.
At 10 o'clock, I wasn't as worried as I am at 1242.
That's what I'm going to say about it.
as the timetable turns.
Hey, what are two words that really get the people going on Rahimi Harrison Grotie?
Crosby Max.
Or?
Max Crosby?
Yes.
Oh, well, it's just the two words.
You didn't say they had to be in a certain order.
Yes, it's true, though.
So guess who finally wrote about, well, not finally, but we've got the latest from him
on Max Crosby.
Is it Brad Biggs?
Brad Biggs is spoken.
He has gotten a Q&A about this.
and if there's one thing our listeners love,
it's to try to acquire Max Crosby.
So let's give the people what they want.
Let's read and react to the latest from Brad Biggs
about the possibility of Max Crosby coming here,
or at least we're just keeping tabs on him.
Let's all just be nosy together next.
Rahimi Harrison Grody, Midday's Tyndall 2
on Chicago Sports Radio 1043, the score.
He's one of the best in the league,
one of the best play callers without a,
out. He does an incredible job in all facets of offense. You know what I mean? Like the run
game to the past game to the trickeration. He's really got all that. Somebody I respect a lot.
I really, I can't say much bad things about him. You know what I mean? Every time you go out
there against the offense led by him, like you got to be on your and be at your best because he's
going to make it difficult. So yeah, respect the hell out of him. That was Max Crosby on the
Let's Go podcast talking about Ben Johnson. And you know,
We try to pay attention to audience feedback and audience behavior.
And sometimes you learn too much.
But other times you just learn that the two words that send to this group,
us,
the Rahimi Harris-Grody show collective,
you into a tizzy is Max Crosby.
And you know what?
I kind of like it.
Yeah, Ray.
Where all my Maxinistas at?
Yeah.
Hit us up if you're a Maxinista.
I like T.J. Max and I like Maxx.
And I like Maxx Crosby.
I think that makes me a Maxinista.
Talk to me about the Max andista thing again, Ray.
So Max andistas.
I mean, that's really Layla, right?
It's the T.J. Max.
If you shop at T.J. Max.
I love T.J.M.
So we're repurposing for the Max Crosby.
Because there are a lot of Max Crosby fans out here in our audience.
And if you are one, go ahead and text us.
312, 64, 64, 67, 67, and identify yourself as a Maxineista.
Yeah, or if you just like T.J. Max, because that works, too.
That has the word Max.
I'm more of a Marshall's guy, but hey.
Oh, my God.
Look at you.
Why didn't I not?
even realize that until now.
Just telling you.
Marshallista.
You think I know people.
Great place to pop in and grab a belt or a tie or many of those things.
7-73.
Yes, send Crosby to the Bulls.
If only.
So Brad Biggs came out with a mail bag and we know how these things go.
I think Brad is calling it a Q&A now.
I think that's what the kids are calling it.
Because a male bag implies like physical mail.
We know how that goes.
So Brad Biggs is up the title to Q&A.
And we know what happens.
He will sneak in breaking news on you or a big news nugget.
And I didn't get to the big news nugget because I, like our listenership, stopped at Max Crosby.
So here is the question that was asked.
I believe Max Crosby is too much risk for the Bears.
Injuries cost to get him in age.
Do you agree that there are better moves the bears can make for pass rusher?
And then there's a picture in everything.
So Biggs replied, Crosby, who turns 29 in August, is an elite disruptive player,
who is one of the most incredible motors you'll ever see on a man who is 6'5 and 255 pounds.
And now I feel like reading Who's Your Guy?
Now I feel like that's what I'm doing.
He's tremendous theater for the NFL.
And while from a distance, he looks like the kind of guy who could spend his entire career
in a Raiders uniform, Crosby's potential availability via trade,
will be a huge story this offseason.
Does Las Vegas with a new coach and the number one draft pick go full tear down
and ship off the face of the franchise to the highest bidder?
Last week at the senior ball, I chatted with a handful of veteran personnel men
about the possibility that Crosby could be available.
They said what you'd expect, nothing would surprise them.
Hmm.
On the Higon meter, is it starting to percolate a little bit?
8.5.
8.5.
They were also in agreement that, given the choice between Crosby and Cincinnati
Bengals Free Agent Defensive N, Trey Hendrickson, they would choose Crosby.
I think that's settled, right?
I feel like that's everybody's theory.
It's not an apples to apples comparison, though,
because Crosby would require trade compensation.
Would Las Vegas consider moving Crosby?
One thing the Raiders do not need this offseason is Capspace.
They're number two of the league now in available space.
The feeling I got was that people aren't concerned
the knee surgery Crosby had at the end of the season
will negatively affect its production moving forward.
But these people haven't had their team doctors
examine medical records for Crosby himself.
He goes on to talk about his stats.
And then he says the Bears would need to have legitimate internal conversations
about any player of Crosby's ability who is available if any are available.
But my intuition is that general manager Ryan Poles would have a hard time bundling
two first round draft picks or something close to that to acquire Crosby.
If the price is lower, then it would be an intriguing option.
please don't think current bears players who might not be great salary cap fits could be valuable trade pieces in a bid to acquire Crosby.
Okay, that's what I've been saying all along.
I firmly believe this is Bigsy.
If the Raiders shop Crosby, they'll be looking for a big time return in draft capital.
So throw out the idea of a DJ Moore headed that way.
Well, he said, no, he just talked about the, yeah, oh yeah, great salary cap fits.
Naturally, I was thinking defensive line.
Yeah, they've got all that.
salary cap space, which made me think, okay, DJ Moore is someone who they might absorb for,
I don't know, a young quarterback who just came off a national championship and a Heisman
and Fernando Mendoza. But I understand it. But I will say this. If it's two firsts and you
expect to be good, that means your first will be in the late 20s, maybe even the early 30s.
I mean, you ideally wanted to be like what the Packers gave up to get Micah Parsons, right?
Probably not getting that deal, though.
No.
Yeah.
Because the level of talent
Parsons is at a higher point in his career than Crosby.
But you never know until you ask.
Everybody's in a different situation is what we're finding out here
as teams are trying to take that next step.
And clearly if you're trying to get Max Crosby,
you're trying to take a big step.
But Brad's right.
It's just not as flexible.
Even in today's salary cap where you are more flexible
and you do have more money.
The bears are not as flexible
as they have been in past years
to be able to get this done.
It would be amazing and wonderful
and rainbows and all those things.
But he's right.
Like this is the reasonable take.
Who's trying to be reasonable at a time like this?
I know.
859 says I can already see big max value meals
at Chicago area McDonald's.
See? See? Does that sound reasonable?
No, it doesn't.
Sounds like a Maxinista.
Oh yeah. We got a few Maxinista texts.
Hell yeah.
Thanks, Maxine.
You know who I think also probably appreciates Max Crosby talent?
Our next guest.
And he might even just be an actual T.J. Max Max and Easta.
I know he goes to Taco Bell.
Kevin Harlan joins us next on Rahimi Harrison Grotie on 1043, The Score.
The score.
Happy New Year, everyone along with former NFL MVP, Rich Gannon, Kevin Harlan.
Somebody has run out on the field.
Some goofball in a hat and a red shirt.
Now he takes off the shirt.
He's running down the middle by the 50.
He's at the 30.
He's bare chested and banging his chest.
Now he runs the opposite way.
He runs with the 50.
He runs at the 40.
The guy is drunk.
I just pulled through the Taco Bell drive-thru,
and I've got a couple of big, nasty Supreme Burritos right here waiting to beat.
And I know that they're going to go down a little bit more difficulty now
because Marshall is not going to be in that scenario.
And then you just kind of wonder where the wind's going to blow.
With Rahimi Harrison Grody.
Let's bring it, Layla.
Let's bring it home.
Maybe let's ramrod off.
way right into it. On 104-3, the score.
It gets me fired up. To do what? I'm not quite sure. Run between the tackles? Let's go.
Kevin Harlan is the man to announce it. You know, I think nobody does a better job of play-by-play,
not of just football, but life. And so he joins us on our Circus Sports Illinois hotline.
Download the circus sports app today. Kevin Harlan, the voice on Westwood One that you will hear
calling Super Bowl 60 this Sunday right here on one.
343, the score. Super Sunday coverage begins at one, continues throughout the day. Then it is Seahawks
and Patriots kickoff at 530 right here on the score and the Odyssey app. And he's calling Sons of
Warriors tonight on Prime Video. The man doesn't sleep. Is he here? Do we lose Kevin? Oh, no. Oh,
I fell asleep. I just, that that was the problem, Leila. I heard that embarrassing stuff about Taco Bell
and all that other stuff you were playing.
And I go, oh, my God, what have I done to my career?
And I kind of snooze there.
I caught 10 winks, but I'm back with you and ready to rock, baby, ready to go.
What are you talking about?
That was awesome when you were in the Taco Bell drive-through with us.
Who hasn't been in the Taco Bell drive-through?
Highly relatable content, Kevin.
Well, I appreciate that.
They were great, by the way.
Those two, they went down smooth and easy.
and I'm sitting here in Phoenix and downtown Phoenix.
And if I could get myself to a Taco Bell, I'd do it.
But I'm doing a lot of shows like this today
before we do the Sons and Golden State Warriors tonight
with no Devin Booker, no Steph Curry.
I'm going to go, why am I even here?
I should be up in San Francisco getting ready for this big game on Sunday.
But here I sit, but I'll be moving tomorrow
and getting up there and seeing people we know on the business
on Radio Row, but so glad I'm having a chance to visit.
with you guys here today.
And Kevin, you stay busy.
You go from one to the next.
Now, correct me if I'm wrong,
this is Super Bowl 16 in a row that you're calling?
Yes, 17th overall.
Moose Johnston and I did the very first HD telecast of a Super Bowl in 2001.
There were probably a million TV sets in the country that they guessed
that had the capability of getting an HD signal.
had never been broadcast in HD before.
And Darrell Johnston and I broadcast that game for CBS, HD,
and then I've been lucky enough to do the past 15 Super Bowl for Westwood won,
and this will be my 16th in a row.
So I'm always so, I feel so fortunate, so blessed to be in that seat
and can't wait to get up there and do number 16.
and I think this could be about as interesting a game as we've actually had here in a while.
Well, and you're the consummate pro, you know, I can't imagine what it's like calling so many Super Bowls knowing that it's not just the sports nerds like us who want to talk to you, say, about the game where you might not see Steph Curry tonight.
We're still interested.
But you know, also the Sunday games you do every week for Westwood won.
But then what the conversations are like with people when it comes to the Super Bowl, because that's the audience that doesn't typically watch football, but they're watching.
watching the game every year?
Yeah, you know, it is.
It's very, and I think my record was 42 different outlets a couple years ago,
and then they gracefully cut back my appearances on that because I'm there for about three hours.
But when you're going from one entity to the next, some TV stuff, some international stuff,
a lot of radio affiliates like your great station, you know, they're asking a lot of different kind of questions.
and it's weird because I go in thinking,
well, they're probably going to ask a lot about the New England defense,
or they're going to ask about, you know,
Donald and his well-traveled resume
and here on his 15 has a chance to make history,
you know, just a lot of things like that.
And they'll ask, like, well, how do you keep your voice ready
or do you get any sleep the night before?
Do you go out and get dinner beforehand
and our family and friends here with you?
And, like, just stuff that I guess I wouldn't, you know,
anticipate they're going to ask.
but they do, and it's kind of fun.
And I kind of keeps on your toes.
But at the end of the day, it does.
You're so right, Layland Marshall.
They bring in, you know, the more casual fan is now involved.
I guess you've got to have a feel for that to a degree.
You know, what makes sense to then?
You can't assume anything.
And because the game is so enormous in its reach and appeal,
you know, people are going to ask, you know, different things as the week goes,
on and certainly for people that are going to call the game. There are only two, you know,
broadcasts in this country, and ours will actually go overseas to the BBC and other places.
And it's fun to know that those calls of yours, you know, will be, you know, kind of etched in people's
memories or could be if there's a big play. But at the other end of the spectrum,
or people they're just mildly interested and want to know other things about, well, who's calling it,
and why are you calling it? What do you think is interesting outside the way?
the game itself. And so it does. It kind of keeps you on your toes. And it's fun to bring in other
people that are interested now in the NFL in this big game. Kevin, I'm curious because
I'm going to ask one of those questions that you just described. You've got a basketball game
tonight on NBA trade deadline day, not knowing who actually might be available, might not be
available, and you'll find that out as you get closer to the game. How do you focus tonight
on this when you know you've got the biggest game of the year, bar none, coming up just
just a couple of days away.
Well, you know, you compartmentalize.
One of the problems today, though, is between our things with the coaches here
and a couple of things I've had to do with people in San Francisco
and getting ready for our game tonight,
three different times I've tried to go to the bathroom,
and I can't now because I've got to come back to my desk
and do stuff that I wasn't planning to do.
So when I hang up with you, I'm making a beeline to that bathroom
and going to enjoy myself for about I don't know how long it's going to take.
And then I'll get back to work.
But everything else has kind of been put on hold.
You can't really get any lunch.
You've got to kind of stay by.
I've got the ESPN show here with Malika and their group because these trades are coming fast and furious.
And the deadline, the countdown is on.
And then our game tonight now, we've had a couple trades involving both these teams,
the sons and warriors, yet trying to keep up with the different thing.
You know, I'm in Worry.
The versatile defensive back of Seattle was shown Lenton,
after practice yesterday.
The right shoulder of Drake May has become an issue,
and so there's just so much going on
that if you do pause for anything,
whether to eat or do otherwise,
you're behind.
And on a day like this,
you can't get behind.
So it's thrilling,
and I'm glad to be in this chair
and have this responsibility,
but you do kind of put everything else on hold
because you're kind of the slave of these different things
that are ongoing and not a lot of commas and no periods.
Nothing is ending.
It's just kind of this continuous train that you've got to make sure you're on because you
don't want to fall behind.
Kevin, I'm so glad you brought up the fact that we all have to time our bathroom
breaks in this business because we do.
It's something that we have to deal with too.
I know you guys have to do the same thing.
You've got that little sliver of time to take care of your business.
And then after that, you've got to go another hour, right?
And same thing.
been another hour after that.
So I get it.
In the business, you cannot just leave for a minute and just, you know, hit a pause button.
You've got to keep it on play.
These are two teams, talking about the football now, two teams that the country is familiar with
because it's a rematch of sorts.
You know, coaches have moved on.
Players have moved on.
But it's the Seahawks and it's the Patriots, and we all remember how the last time these two teams played in the Super Bowl,
how that game ended.
What are you most excited about when looking back into the football at this specific matchup?
Well, everything about it to me is intriguing.
Darnold and the many stops he's had to make to become the quarterback he is now.
May, who's had the great acceleration with his football acumen,
the way he has mastered so much with Josh McDaniels,
his offensive coordinator now in his 10th Super Bowl kind of,
pulling the strings and pushing the buttons, leading them along this journey.
Mike Vrable in his first year back at a place that he played in four Super Bowls for Belichick in New England.
Mike McDonald, the coach of Seattle, in his second year, won 10 games last year,
won 14 games this year.
He's a defensive play caller.
We've never had a defensive play caller win a Super Bowl.
Smith and Jigba, who is probably the most electric player in the league right now as a receiver for the Seahawks.
We could go on and on and get deeper into the weeds with every sentence.
But there's a lot here to grasp.
I do think it's going to be a defensive game, and I think we're not going to see long, extended drives.
It feels to me like the defense for both teams have some.
answers, and that could make it kind of a disjointed feel in terms of rhythm.
But I do think defense, at the end of the day, we'll have a pretty good-sized fingerprint on the
outcome.
But it also seems to me that we could have, you know, maybe a special teams play.
We've never had a punt-returned touchdown in the Super Bowl.
We've had 59 of them with a lot of plays and never a punt-returned touchdown,
and we've got two pretty good returners in this game,
one that joined one team halfway through the year
in a mid-season trade,
and the other one has been in New England for a while
and has done damage, both as a starting defensive back
and as a return guy.
So there could be a lot of different twists and turns here
that we're not really expecting that could definitely take hold
of a game with maybe not a lot of great name recognition
and two unexpected teams.
The odds for each, I think we're 60 to 1 coming into the season,
and here they are in the biggest game.
So there's a lot here to kind of wrap your arms around and embrace
because I think there's going to be captivating stories,
but we could have one of those players jump into the limelight,
into the spotlight that we're not expecting that can make a real difference in the game.
We're talking to Kevin Harlan.
He is the voice calling Westwood One's broadcast of Super Bowl 60,
which you can hear right here on.
Sunday on 104 3 the score.
And Kevin, we brought this up in our pre-show
meeting. We were talking about
a lot of the interviews Mike Vrable has done
and enjoying what he's brought
to this Super Bowl week leading
up. And then we realized
he might be the biggest star
out of either team
given his pedigree and his background,
of course, having played with the
Patriots and what a big name he became.
Who do you think is the biggest star?
Is it even a player? Is it a coach?
Could be the coaches and Brable's
good one, Leila. You bring up
him. He's played in it.
He's won in it. He's played
for what will be as soon a Hall of Fame
coach in Belichick.
And he has had
a previous stop as
a head coach and was successful.
And then with the change and
the feel of ownership in Tennessee,
there were some mannerisms that
he had supposedly
that were not as appealing.
And they wanted to go
a different direction. Bad mistake.
Tennessee, he's screwed up because this guy is everything you want and head coach.
He's played.
He's got the instant respect to the players.
However, I would say this.
In the year between he left Tennessee, he was let go, and when he accepted the job at New
England, he spent some time with the Cleveland Browns and was a very nondescript position
with the team, but was a consultant helped to practice, game planning, just him being
around.
They were better because of it in Cleveland.
I also think that he had a chance to step back personally as is as good for all of us and gain perspective
and take note on what he did right as a head coach, what maybe he was lacking in,
got a ton of feedback, I think, from people, and may have kind of redone the puzzle a little bit
in what his picture looks like.
And one thing that has stood out to me that a lot of people have talked about that I think has resonated
clearly with the team, brought them together much more.
Then they spent a lot of money, by the way.
We know that.
In New England, they spent a ton of money in free agency, but it's paid off.
His communication skills with that team have been exemplary,
to the point where I think a lot of other coaches are taking note.
These players, they will crawl for leadership.
They will – because they want so much of it.
They want to be coached, and they want to be let.
The vast majority of them want to.
And some of these coaches had different styles.
Belichick had a different style, and I think what Brable has done,
he's pulled the best things that he encountered while playing under Belichick
and kind of now turn the chapter to kind of a new way of doing business
with holding on to old-school ideals.
And he's kind of mesh those together so perfectly.
the intersection has brought this kind of season.
And McDonald is still so young up in Seattle
that he is still very relevant with what, you know,
it means to be a young coach
and relying on some pretty good assistance around him,
but a real crafty general manager
who pulled off the deal to get Darnold,
who brought in some of these draft choices
in the course of the rebuilding between Pete Carroll
in McDonald when he arrived last year and done a great job and been swept up in the culture of
the Seahawks, which really never escaped with the torch being handed from Carol to McDonald's.
So different styles, different cultures, different stages of development, but two of very successful guys
who have resonated with their team.
And by the way, never discredit the health issue
and how that is playing into this.
The intersection to make this game of having fortunate play,
great quarterback play, you know,
avoiding catastrophic injury to important players,
that intersection, that is a moving target.
And to be in the crosshairs of it and hit it,
like both these two teams have done,
is part of the explanation why they're here going to play in Super Bowl 60 in a couple days.
Well, he loved the description, and we appreciate the pulling back of the curtain.
Always, Kevin.
Thank you for letting us in on your day.
And if you need to, you can always Uber eats that Taco Bell.
If you need to, I know you got a tight schedule.
Oh, the oldest thing I do is, what is the nearest Taco Bell, Jimmy John's, Baskin-Robbins, what's within walking distance?
and we're in downtown Phoenix, and there really isn't a whole bunch here, but there's a couple
things here, and, oh, I'm on it, I'm on it, because I want to save the per diem money and go under
the radar and get something cheap so I can bring something home and show that I've got something
for my steak.
That is a true approach there.
I'm kind of kidding, but anyway, but they're unique quick and easy, and those all seem to be
quick and easy.
Kevin Marlon.
Which, by the way, were my nicknames in high school.
So that has paid off in a great way.
Hey, quickly, how has the move to the FM side gone?
Well, you sound awesome.
So we're very happy about that.
I think a lot of listeners are doing experiments.
They're seeing which sounds better to them.
So outside of the city, FM probably not the bat.
You know, still 670.
But inside the city, we hear people can listen to us next to our building now.
So that's pretty big.
Well, you get the best of both worlds.
You get the big reach of $670,000, and you get the clarity for your prime market,
which is right there in the Chicagoland area.
So that's great.
By the way, we were there for that Rams game.
As you know, a couple weeks ago, the city has never looked better.
Man, we were there right after the pandemic, and I was afraid of a, uh-oh, like this.
I hope they can, and they really have.
and the foot traffic and the city was lit up.
Restaurants were great.
Went to my favorite Italian.
Man, it was wonderful.
So we loved being there, and I can't wait to get back there again in the fall.
Are you willing to tell us what your favorite Italian spot is?
Oh, yes, Valori.
I go there every single time.
It's the one restaurant.
That and Gibby's, Gipsons.
Those are my two hits every time I go to Chicago.
I've loved, I've gone to Gibson since Jordan and Rodman.
and Pippin were there.
We'd go there after those games.
Each would have a table in Gibson's.
I loved it.
That place has still stayed vibrant and great.
I love Gibson's.
And then Valaria just kind of fell upon a couple years ago, not up to 10 years ago.
And always make it a point to go there.
It's one of the best.
That in Piero's in Las Vegas are my two favorite Italian restaurants in the country.
But they never disappoint.
And so they're always on the schedule when I make it there.
Love it. Love the endorsement. As usual, Kevin, it's always a blast to talk to you. Thank you for coming on.
Thanks, guys. Have a great weekend and enjoy Super Sunday.
Thanks so much, Kevin.
Which you can hear Kevin Carlin call right here on 104-3, the score, Super Bowl 60.
Coverage begins at 1. And yes, he is calling Sons and Warriors tonight for Prime Video.
Coming up next on Rahimi Harris and Grotie, we have found maybe not the biggest star,
but the most interesting man at the Super Bowl.
Next.
Rahimi Harris and Grotie. Midday's 10 to 2 on 1043, the score.
I'm still glowing over the Kevin Harlan interview because he's the best.
And now I'm glowing even more because Rinali's brought pizza by.
And they have those cool flyers that they do.
It's a good day here at the score.
Hot honey for me, baby.
Hot honey for me.
It's a perfect.
The hot honey is outstanding.
That salad, though, has my name on.
on it. Between the pizza and the Kevin Harlan interview, the appropriate palette cleanser after
listening to Julia Poe just kind of tell us, we're not crazy. And yeah, it's as bad as I think it is.
Marshall looks at me after the Julia Poe interview. This is Rahimi Harrison Grotie on 1043,
the score. If you're looking for 104.3 jams, go to B96. You won't be disappointed. In the
meantime, Marshall might be disappointed after what he heard after Julia had the interview with us.
you go, that was a harrowing report.
It was because it brought validity to my concern that I don't think they know what they're doing
and all of a sudden this thing is gone off the rails.
I mean, I get it in a vacuum.
Like the trade for Dail and Terry, you need a center.
You got Yabuselli.
They do have a propensity to pick French players like Usman Jang, who you mentioned.
And then also obviously Noah Essingay.
But we're still trying to figure it out.
That trade deadline should be over in about half an hour, by the way.
So keep it here.
In the meantime, we asked the question to Kevin Harlan.
You know, who's the biggest star at the Super Bowl?
Might be Mike Vrable.
But I think we found out who the most interesting man is at the Super Bowl.
And shout out to Dosakis for bringing that commercial back, the most interesting man in the world.
Did you see the one where they reintroduce him?
Like, he's been like hanging out doing nothing.
And then they were like, he remembered who he was apparently.
That's a good bit.
It is a good bit.
It is a good bit.
and sadly I am of the demographic where that hits now.
That man has not aged in, what, 15, 20 years?
Their plan tops drop on Walmart commercials, man.
I am the demo.
Somehow, and I don't understand this with all the targeted advertising in the world that we live in,
the Dosecchi's commercial that you're talking about with the return of the Dosecci's man
has somehow alluded me, the resident Mexican of the score.
I will send it to you.
Yeah, he's back.
Because I thought I was like, the most interesting man in the world.
is back. I just didn't think I was going to have to search it out. You know what I'm saying?
I want to find the most interesting man in the world in real life. I think we found the most
interesting man at the Super Bowl. And why is it Mack Hollins? Mac Hollins self-described football
nomad, the receiver for the Patriots, comes up in various headline searches and they are just
fabulous. Like, for example, the origins of Mack Holland's decision to go barefoot. And listen,
a lot of people got it twisted when I talked about running around the world barefoot. That I
say no to. Being barefoot at times is good. Like that just helps your foot muscles and stuff.
So in this case, Matt Collins, not only does he like to play barefoot and like to at least
spend a lot of time barefoot, apparently he revealed to reporters that he hasn't eaten vegetables
over the last four or five years, how do you do this and play football? I'm looking at a salad
right now for Monlley's. Maybe he's on a keto diet and it's just all protein and that's just how he rolls.
It sounds like he's on the Al Michaels diet who,
also does not eat
do you know you remember
same era of the dozecki's
most interesting command
commercials do you remember when the phrase
that's how I roll was just okay to use
for anything it was like
why didn't you pick your sister up
from soccer practice that's how I roll
or like why'd you kill that guy
that's how I roll
famously it was used in Anchorman
when Jack Black punted
Baxter off of the bridge and he goes
that's how I roll and then everybody just started
using it. Maybe he just...
That's how I roll. How? How? How did you just have that on the ready?
That was incredible. I just got lucky. Or I'm still a wizard.
Wizard. Wizard. So Holland's personal habits earned him the nickname Tarzan.
That's appropriate, actually. As he developed a reputation for going against the grain. But I don't
think he's like a jerk contrarian. I think he's just a real one. He's principled is what he is.
He doesn't wear shoes. He doesn't use utensils.
He thinks small cats steal your soul.
He hasn't eaten a vegetable in three years.
He's one of those dudes who just life is more interesting for.
He enjoys the absurdity of tradition and the mundane.
I just, I remember him in Philadelphia, right?
Because I covered the Eagles back then.
And he's a football nomad.
He was drafted there in 2017, fourth rounder.
And I was like, okay, this Mac Hollins dude.
And I remember thinking, okay, he's interesting the first time, you know, you hear from a rookie, you don't know what to expect.
And then it's almost like the legend of Matt Collins is great.
He's 32 years old now.
He's a football, like, he's an old head.
He is, yeah.
Technically, he is an old head, yes.
But I appreciate his, uh, there are some people where you know they're doing it just to have a personality.
But I don't think that's what this is.
Listen to this report from 13 W.
W. Ham ABC News two years ago from Mike Catalana, who was president at Bill's training camp to also discuss
perhaps the most interesting player on the then team. Sports coming to you from St. John Fisher,
where the bills completed their fifth training camp practice today. A lot of new guys on the roster.
The most interesting, without question, wide receiver, Mac Holland. Some of the things we found out
about him, his father owned a lion. He owns three snakes. And the guy says he hasn't eaten a vegetable.
in three years.
And as Dan Fates tells us,
that's just the beginning
of the things that make Mack Hollins unique.
When I asked Bill's players about Mac Hollins,
they all said the same thing.
I love Mac.
Mac's often.
One of my favorite players,
honestly, probably one of my favorite people I've ever met.
Like, golly.
And that's because, well,
Mac's a little different.
Like, every team I've been on there can be like,
who's the weirdest guy?
They're going to say, Mac.
I say interesting.
Yeah, yeah, it's not like a bad weird.
Yeah, he's crazy.
He's Tarzan.
Yeah, and just like Tarzan, Mac doesn't wear shoes.
I think shoes are a tool.
And people have made them a part of their body.
Like, I wouldn't walk around with a hammer just because I might need a hammer sometimes.
Now, he does work cleats because he has to.
But he calls them foot prisons.
Like, look at that little tiny toe box.
How are you going to fit your toes in there?
But this barefoot thing is catching on.
Joe is out here shoeless yesterday for a walk-through.
Started walking around barefoot yesterday.
You know, when you look around, there's 10 other guys barefoot.
Nobody's walking around barefoot in life yet.
I think I'm the only one doing that one.
Now, this no-shoes thing is just the beginning of Max's unique personality.
Oh, my man, Josh!
Like, his thoughts on cats.
Small cats will steal your soul, never have him around.
If it's a house cat, that'll steal your soul.
Or the fact that he doesn't use utensils.
Like, what?
happened that people said you got to start using utensils. Your hands will help you digest because
your body knows that it's coming. Your hands will get the temperature of the food so you can better
understand what it's going to be before it goes in your mouth so you don't burn your tongue of your
lips. And you're more cognizant of washing your hands. People are like, it's dirty. No, it's not
because I know I'm about to eat with my hands. So I've got to wash them. A lot of y'all don't wash your
hands out the bathroom, let alone, let alone that it went before you eat. Yeah, Mack says that
nothing he does is just for the fun of it. Everything has a purpose. But look, at the end of the
day. It's just Mac being Mac, the most interesting player in Buffalo.
Reporting with the bills. Dan Fates, Buffalo Plus.
Okay. So at least he's not doing it to just do it. Like there's a thought process that he lets
you in on to arrive to his conclusion. I got to say, look at that little tiny toebox.
I got to say.
What prisons is great because you know leg prisons is what people call jeans during the pandemic.
because who's quarantining in jeans?
I'm wearing leggings right now.
But you got to understand.
His reasoning was sound for every single thing that he did that might be considered different.
Did you find anything he said to be odd after he explained why?
Yes.
Which part?
All of it.
What do you mean?
All of it.
All of it.
I am not.
Yeah.
See, I didn't buy into the logic for most of these things.
However, what Matt Collins said,
about washing your hands, I agree with.
I agree.
However, the logic he also uses for not using utensils in the same sentence, I, that come on, bro.
But that makes us, you, when you start touching food, you are signaling to your body, we're about to eat.
And you know you're never going to burn the roof of your mouth because if it's too hot to touch, it's definitely too hot to chew.
Your hands will help you digest because your body knows that it's coming.
It sounds like we have a convert in Marshall Harris.
I think so.
I'm with him.
And I've always been a guy that says, hey, if your feet, they'll bound by shoes, you should probably do barefoot.
And we should all put our feet to the ground throughout the day just to stay grounded.
I just don't think you should run around the world barefoot.
That's dangerous.
That's dangerous.
That's the reason.
Why do I feel like he's describing a ballerina point shoe when he says that?
Also, you know what he did today?
Today?
What do you do?
Matt Collins brought a chess board to Patriots media availability.
every question you get to move.
And so everybody's thoroughly just entertained
sitting around this chess board
and talking to Matt Collins.
He made it more interesting for himself.
Now, I would have dumbed that down
and done the same thing with Connect 4
because it's easier for somebody walking in
to survey and do the thing.
But yeah, I get it.
I'm with Matt Collins.
One of the people he converted on the no shoes
that we heard in that soundbite
was then offensive coordinator
and now head coach Joe Brady,
who I don't know if in 2026,
I don't know if he's walking around at the Super Bowl with no shoes like Mac Hollins is,
but back then he converted him.
The headline from the Boston Globe, which I can't break into because they've got a pretty
wicked payroll.
Mack Hollins wants to help the Patriots win.
He wants to help you open a jar.
He wants to help everyone with everything.
I believe it.
The only thing they said that was questionable was probably the cat's soul thing.
But you know what?
My ex-girlfriend's cat never liked me.
have staff. The idea that, you know how we say like, oh, I'm a dog owner, I'm a dog parent.
No, not the way, not that way with a cat as we know. Small cats will steal your soul. Never have
them around. If it's a house cat, that will steal your soul. No, they just tell you what to do.
Yeah. Like you're on their payroll, not the other way around. And your payroll is free.
Yeah. You're going to work. You pay to work for them. Yeah, you're going to work to earn money to
buy them the food and things that they need. Yeah. And if they like you, then they just think you're a really bad hunter.
and they'll bring you stuff.
Fair.
If they like you.
So I differentiate on the soul stealing.
I just think he just is not familiar with being on the cat staff.
You got to play the cat drop just for Grody tomorrow to see what his reaction is.
Oh yeah.
Yeah.
And also for everybody, just as a preview, Dave has picked his Super Bowl winner.
Dave, the Cat.
Grody did exactly what we told him to do.
And I think Grody can reveal that information via video.
and he will talk to us about it when he's on tomorrow.
So that'll be interesting.
But I like it when people think differently,
but there's an authenticity to it.
And I feel like Mack Hollins does that.
You know it's 20 minutes and 20 seconds away?
The NBA trade deadline?
Yeah, just thought you should know that.
Are you still stressed?
I'm not even stressed.
I'm just going to be righteously saying what I need to say
when it's all over and done with
if things do not turn out better than they are at this current junction for the Chicago Bulls.
Fair enough.
You thought it was a reset, a rebuild.
It's just a re-tool.
That's not good.
It's a re-there.
Something like that, yes.
He taught people how to fix a car?
I got to do some more research on this guy, and I did research.
So Matt Collins will use tools, but not utensils.
Interesting.
But then he...
I wouldn't walk around with a hammer just because I might need a hammer sometimes.
I know people who do.
You know that that loop on the backpack is for a hammer?
I didn't know that.
The little like, yeah, the little diamond with the two little slits.
That is involving a hammer if you carry it on your backpack.
The more you know, coming up next year on Rahimi Harris-Crody on 104-3, the score.
Should we, should we do this?
Which audio do we want to play?
Because what's on our list I don't think we want to do?
What's on our list is a Mike Rable quote,
but then you found the comments about Caleb Williams
that are hilarious from CD.
That's right.
We could do either.
We could do either.
Especially since the guy that is having problems remembering people's names,
he witnessed him firsthand what he's capable of.
That's what made that interesting.
Oh, yeah.
Okay, so it was Jamar.
My bad.
So let's start with Jamar Chase.
And if we have time, we'll get to Mike Rable being very Mike Rable.
Next.
Rahimi Harris and Grootie Midday's tidal-toons on Chicago Sports Radio.
The Bulls have made another trade.
We are less than 15 minutes away from the NBA trade deadline.
And the Bulls have dealed yet again.
This is a three-team deal according to Sharania.
The Bucks and the Suns have expanded this to a three-team.
deal to include the Bulls.
So originally, it was a Bucks and Sons trade, and Shams added this.
Usman Jang to Milwaukee and Nick Richards to Chicago sources said, and Marshall, does this
make you feel a little bit better?
It doesn't.
It doesn't.
You know why?
That tank just got a lot softer.
I don't think they're tanking.
I don't think they're tanking.
Here's why.
Nick Richards is 6'11, 245 pounds, and has been a guy who can be dependent on to do some
things as far as being a guy who can run the floor and play with a guy like Josh Giddy.
Now, he's older, 28 years old, but as far as the here and now, unless they're moving
him further, it feels like a move to help sturdy up your debt, and he could be their starting
center going forward.
That's it.
We were just talking about how, as it stood, the Bulls didn't have a guy over 6'9 on
the roster, then they end up trading for a center.
That's the Dale and Terry deal.
Then they find out this morning that they'd flipped Iodosumu as part of a deal for four first-round picks,
including Julie and Phillips to the Timberwolves.
We wanted to see if there was going to be something that happened next.
I think last year when they got Kevin Hörner and Zach Collins, they probably wanted to flip them and perhaps just ran out of time.
But Uzman Jang, nice to know you.
This is the third team here, the third trade he's been a part of.
The other thing is you might look at his numbers and be like, well, he doesn't look like he plays much,
doesn't do much. Well, he hasn't really had a lot of starts since 24-25, which was last year,
so not that long ago, where he played for two different teams. Here's the thing. His per 36
numbers, this is a guy that can give you double-digit scoring and double-digit rebounding if he
gets the minutes to do so. This year, for instance, 12.6 points and 12.9 rebounds per 36 minutes.
Guess what? In Chicago, he's going to get extended run. I also like everybody pointing out that the
line eye are taller as a team right now than the Bulls.
It's true.
They're also better.
Lineite, man, that was a whoop in last night against Northwestern.
17-3s, it was nasty.
25 to 2 run pretty much two or three minutes into that game and it was over.
Call me biased because I probably am, but I think they're underranked in the A people.
I think they could be higher than fifth.
I mean, there's a case to be made for that.
They just had that big win at Nebraska where they then switch spots with them in the
standings and that's how they got up to number five.
Guess what? They play in the Big Ten. They'll have plenty of chances to improve that ranking.
But yeah, so yet another trade, who's Mon Jeng, sent away in favor of Nick Richards,
the center. So it looks like the Bulls are trying to acquire some positions of need as well.
The trade deadline is at the top of the hour. Also, this came across our paths, and this is
pretty funny. Jamar Chase of the Bengals was on the Pat McAfee show.
and listen to how he talked about the Bears quarterback.
Caleb Daniels.
Oh, yeah, of course.
That's the helmet.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
One of my favorites, actually.
What Caleb Daniels does is special.
Yeah?
Yeah.
Like him?
It's so good at ball.
CD?
Yeah.
Come on, now.
We see Caleb Daniels and we think ourselves, holy f***es.
That guy?
He can play.
He can play.
He can play.
Influencer with the helmet.
Yeah.
Caleb Danos, absolute beast, dude.
A shot out.
Caleb Daniel.
Yeah, definitely my favorite helmet.
Something back to Borough real quick.
He's got a batmobile.
Have you guys been in the Joe'sboro?
Who is Caleb Davis?
I'm trying to find out.
He's Caleb Daniels.
Yeah.
I don't know what the fuck his first name is.
What's his name?
What's the quarterback for the Bears?
Oh, Caleb Williams.
Cam Williams.
Jayden Daniels.
Jayden Daniel.
Yeah, I get it.
I said Jay and Daniels.
I'm like, I think his name's Caleb.
I don't know his last name like that.
See, I thought it was, I thought it was a wide receiver for a team that I did not know.
I thought it's a home-in company to.
Joe's going to get on me for this right here.
Oh, it was amazing.
Holy.
No, he's, Daniels.
Yeah, Jay and Daniels, Caleb Williams.
I wasn't sure.
I thought that was definitely a guy that was in the wide receiver room for Cincinnati.
He's now on a different team.
We obviously had no idea.
He talked about Caleb Daniels.
That's hilarious.
is.
It's also bulletin board material.
So good thing they play in the old AFC, Bears, too, and all.
Well, they played this year against each other.
So they probably won't see each other for another three years.
But, you know, the schedule is funky now.
17 could be 18 soon.
Right.
You don't know when you might see somebody again.
Was that dismissive, petty?
How would you describe what just happened there?
Forgetful.
Forgetful?
Yeah.
Do you think he just combined Jaden, Daniels, and Caleb Williams?
Yes, 100%.
How do you think?
think Caleb Williams feels about that.
Yeah, that's the better question, isn't it?
Of any quarterback, Jaded Daniels?
Woo, that's tough, Leila.
That's tough.
Caleb Williams is not going to take kindly to that.
I don't...
Well, okay, so in that vein, I watched the video
that the Bears put out, because you know they're...
I like their social media a lot, and they put out a video
of a scavenger hunt where they gave...
They gave Nishon Wright and Kevin Byard at Pro Bowl practice
these prompts, and
And they were little pieces of paper that told them what to do, like find somebody born before
the year 2000 and they joked about how hard that was and that made me sad inside.
But then one of them was, you know, find somebody.
I forget what they said, but it was it was Nash-Raeh Wright basically going up to Amin-Ross-St.
Brown and like messing with him about mocking them but like was cool about it if that makes
sense.
So sometimes I think like, yeah, you're using it as bulletin board material for the week.
But ultimately you're like, eh, that was a pretty.
can move by you.
You know, game recognizes game type of thing.
Well, one thing is for sure.
Jamar Chase did not recognize Caleb Williams' name, and that's, that's bad.
I wonder if Jamar Chase, though, you know, like, if you asked him who was on the
bear secondary, he probably knows.
I don't know what the fuck his first name is.
What's his name?
That's not even the issue.
Like, he couldn't, like, did I get his first name wrong?
No, sir, you got his last name wrong.
You actually, your guess of his first name was correct.
That's a guy who maybe doesn't pay attention to it.
And did you notice how he was sad about.
letting Joe Burrow down?
Yeah, because he knows he's going to hear from his quarterback, as he should.
That, come on.
It would be different if they didn't play this year, and if that game hadn't
gone the way it went this year.
But come on, man.
Come on.
You know who he is.
You know who Colston Loveland is.
You know.
You definitely.
Well, the Bengal secondary sure does.
Yeah.
