Starting point is 00:00:00 Welcome in to the Chicago Bears Postgame Show, the Timber Tech Decking and Railing Football Post Game Show, presented by the Bob Vorman Automotive Group, Gabe Ramirez, here with Patrick Manly and Olin Cruz, Bears lose to the Minnesota Vikings 9 to 3. And what you thought, you know, some of the 2025, 2026 season was going to come into play here when you thought about the miraculous comebacks the Bears had. Olin just came up a bit short for many reasons. But Tyson Bejan, you know, You know, unfortunately, couldn't come through with that touchdown at the very end. Yeah, man. I mean, a long day at Soldier Field there on the lakefront, obviously with the rain, really affecting both offenses, helping out the defense. You don't want to play a Florida's offense, but you don't want to play it in the pouring, consistent rain especially. But, you know, when Caleb goes down, man, the air just leaves the stadium, things go dead quiet,
Starting point is 00:00:53 and you're just hoping that's not as bad as it looked, right? And them saying at the end of the game, Pat, that was, it could be a right? that was it could be a right hamstring injury is about the best news i've got them uh since caleb went down but he saw with devon bush's you know drops that interception there when he you know they blitz and the cornerback blitz and he makes a nice play to get in front of receiver and that drops and the thing just kind of went that way the whole day for chicago bears but when it looks like Caleb's about to score and take the lead on that boot naked off their outside run game pat and he goes down man that i don't know how you felt on your
Starting point is 00:01:26 couch. But I just sat there in complete silence for about 10 minutes. He didn't know what to say. Just really hope he's okay. Obviously, he's still trying to lead on the way on the cart, takes the towel off his head. He'll say he's got tears in his eyes and he's waving to the stadium. So I hope that guy is okay. Yeah, I just think the whole city's deflated. You know, you get excited when they get down there like that. Okay, the Caleb Magic in the fourth quarter is going to happen. And that's tough, man. You know, Olin, we've been on sidelines when we've seen star players go down. I remember where Nerlacker went down with his wrist injury, thinking, oh, no, you know, is he done for the year? And they came to the sideline and told us how, you know, serious
Starting point is 00:02:03 it was. And it's just deflating to a team. It's deflating to the city. And you're right, Olin's sitting here on this couch. I was just, you know, thinking, you know, what's the season going to be like for the rest of the year? You know, thinking it's Achilles. I think everybody was thinking that. And then the best news we could hear is a hamstring and hopefully it's not too bad, but it's deflating. But that's the storyline of the game, right? But other than that, I mean, 59 points to three points to that to that point of the game is a little shocking just how ugly the offense looked with all the penalties the illegal snaps to the illegal formations to all that kind of stuff to the two turnovers that they had the drop the drop interception you talk about
Starting point is 00:02:41 the blocked kick with a high snap and a missed punch by sam roush on the left wing got the timing off there you thought at least they'd come away with three points overall it was just an ugly game offensively. As high praises as we sang saying all week, it was the complete opposite. And then the injury to Caleb is just, it's deflating. We don't know what the future is going to be like, but we're here to break down this game now, and I'm sure we'll
Starting point is 00:03:04 continue talking about Caleb. But it's just really disappointing overall to see what the Bears came out with when what you were hoping to see against the Flores defense of after what they did of the Carolina Panthers. Yeah, if you did not hear or did not catch the end the game and you're just watching us, Caleb
Starting point is 00:03:19 Williams, and what would have been, we assume was a drive that would have gave the bears the lead. Had he been able to complete that play? Unfortunately, falls down. You see it initially with Ginko kind of chasing him. You thought maybe he got his ankle at some point. And that's where I'm sure like the fears for the Achilles kind of came in. But you saw him come up blimp in the replays.
Starting point is 00:03:38 And I think a majority of the people who thought immediately that it was that hamstring. And, you know, he had a lot of work on the day, right? I mean, scrambling out, you feel like maybe necessarily, you know, the ground game wasn't doing its best in the first half. And then all of a sudden, you know, the reeds weren't there. It may have been the pressure from the Minnesota Vikings. But Caleb Williams, using his legs a lot and then ultimately falling victim to this hamstring injury that, I mean, Oh, when you're talking about a team trying to bounce back, even when that happens at the end of a game, I'm sure it's even more deflating because your backup quarterback, you know, has to come in out of nowhere and is expected to bring the team back and give them a score.
Starting point is 00:04:17 Yeah, like you're saying, the offense troubled the whole day to get anything going. little bit of a run game going, but not much past game going there. And just, you know, whether it be third down, Roma Dunesgate, just off his fingers, should you have caught it would have been a tough catch, right? But Caleb, reads the blitz, should have put it right on his chest there. But does the rain affect that? There's the wet ball we talked about in pregame. Wet ball drills, getting used to the rain.
Starting point is 00:04:41 As Pat will tell you, Gabe, and I'm sure, as you know, that's the worst weather to play. That's the worst weather to try to operate in offense and just a real consistent. insist in rainfall. I played, obviously, college ball, University of Washington in Seattle, and we have a few games like this. And you're just trying to run the ball and hope for a big pass play somewhere, Pat, right? And like you're talking about Gabe, laying the game, he's open, not only is it deflating, your quarterback gets hurt, but he's about to score the game, the game leading score, right? They can't stop. They can't catch him. They couldn't catch him all day. Dallas Turner couldn't catch him. Van Ginko is not catching him right there when he's
Starting point is 00:05:16 outside the pocket to put the ball in the end zone to take the lead. And you're thinking, oh, we're going to win this game just like he did it last year, right? And then Bayesian's got to come in and kudos to him. He leads the team down the field. But at the end there, you see the difference between the arm talent, between the two quarterbacks, right? You see the difference in between Kayla Williams and Tyson, Beijing and why we need Caleb Williams in there.
Starting point is 00:05:39 The offense did struggle. They did have a kind of a come back down to Earth game here, verse Flores and with that rain out there, Pat. But nothing really going their way. Tons of poundies. Fummeled by Swift there, down on the one. yard line big play talked about jalen redmond in the pregame and sure enough you know i think brad biggs told us he was the first defensive player that coach johnson mentioned right when he
Starting point is 00:06:00 talked to him about the minnesota vikings and you can see why he's a big part of what they do and he made a lot of plays today yeah and that rain just for the viewers when you're watching a game and you can see the rain on tv it's that means it's really raining that's one thing that you really know that's one thing the way i notice it too that if you can see the rain on tv man it's it's it's it's It's really coming down. That's just, yeah, well, it's the toughest thing to play in. I have much rather play in just a cold game, maybe just a win game. But when you get the rain like that, it's very, very difficult.
Starting point is 00:06:31 You saw Carson Wince sail a ball on Justin Jefferson in the end zone. There could have been a touchdown that sailed on them. That throw with Tyson Bajon at the end, and Colson Loveland looked like it slipped out a little bit. It's just a tough game to handle, but both teams had to handle it. And I'm just shocked that the Bears' offense could not handle the Flores pressure. Also, I'm just more shocked with all the penalties, the illegal formations, and just how discombobulated, I guess the word would be. They looked after week one when they looked so good. And they talked about how well they've been practicing all off season.
Starting point is 00:07:03 I was just kind of shocked that they got in the home atmosphere and looked the way they looked with just pre-snap penalties where rain really is not affecting you. It's just maybe the pressure in front of them of Brian Flores and just the little details that I just, you know, there's a lot to coach off there. And I'm a little shocked that it looked that way the way I did today. Yeah, it was unfortunate. I mean, you're expecting, obviously, the offense to continue to keep rolling, right? Caleb Williams, 15 for 26 on the day, even on the ground. I mean, Kaumananga, DeAndi Suf had some moments, right? Kaumananga looked good in a couple of rushes. Kamenanga, 10 carries 47 yards, DeAndi Swift, 16 carries for 45 yards. But it just seemed, guys, that they just couldn't get the rhythm going. And I know, obviously penalties have a lot to do with that. But in terms of tempo and getting things going, whether it was a run,
Starting point is 00:07:50 stuffed or a pass that obviously Caleb couldn't necessarily find his footing because you mentioned the pressure of Brian Flores. I mean, you saw them no play action passes. It seemed like when they did try to attempt it that the defense is just there a bit too quick. And I wonder have Ben Johnson in those moments. It kind of gave up on the play action because he saw the pressure from Brian Flores. You know, I don't know. There were guys coming free. Their plan today was to keep the tight ends in on Dallas Turner, right? And keep Caleb in the pop with play action passing and try to hit them deep down the field. It was interesting to me to see, you know,
Starting point is 00:08:25 even the last play of the game, it was Coastin Loveland one-on-one with Dallas Turner. We talked about different protections. You can go to, and I'm sure some of the thought was these ends do cage rush Caleb Williams, which is where they just get up to where he is and just stay there and keep him in the pocket. So some of the thought was that they wouldn't rush,
Starting point is 00:08:44 but the tight ends ended up getting bull rushed back into Caleb and he had to run around anyway. I thought Caleb's eyes were dropping a little too soon today, Pat. I thought he wasn't keeping him down the field trying to get the ball down to field. I thought he was escaping from the pocket a lot today. A lot of that might just have been the rain. And, you know, obviously, Flores, like you're talking about games, game switching up the coverages and changing things on Caleb,
Starting point is 00:09:07 showing them different looks, showing them one thing. And then pre-snap and then post-snap, showing them something else and trying to find open receivers and where to go with the ball. And obviously, they gave the Chicago Bears offense. all kinds of problems today. But it wasn't, it was interesting because you were watching, you're thinking, okay, how much is this is the rain and how much is this, the Bears offense just does not have a rhythm today and cannot get going?
Starting point is 00:09:34 Oh, and I thought, you know, they had 31 rushing attempts and, what, 35 passing attempts, something like that, that I thought it would be flipped and even more heavy towards the run, just with that weather is the weather, you know, kept coming in and kept coming down. And we talked about in the pregame as leaning on the right side of your offense. They ran to the left side quite a bit early in the game. And then the second half, they started coming out on the right side and had success. I'm a little shocked they didn't go to that earlier.
Starting point is 00:09:57 You know, you talk about halftime adjustments. I'm surprised that didn't happen in the second quarter saying, hey, man, let's just get back to the run while we figure out this Flores defense. And it seemed like to me, they were sprinkling in the past or just using the pass too much too early and not using the run of what I thought their strength would be. No matter what Brian Flores lines up, I think that right side of the office of line with one tight end, two tight ends, three tight ends over there can do their job and just malle some people and get it three or four yards at a time. And we didn't see a lot of that. You know, we saw it 31 times,
Starting point is 00:10:26 but I thought a lot, I mean, just outweighing the pass by more than, more than what they did. I mean, it's 31 rushes to what was it say here, 35 pass attempts by Caleb. So that just, I would have done it differently, but who am I? I'm sitting here and I'm not making $13 million dollars is the Bears head coach. When you, when you look at this one and you obviously take a look at, you know, what the bears were offensively, you know, specifically with Ben Johnson. I mean, you know, you saw Luther Burden in moments, right? Coast of Loveland got involved. Sam Roche had a couple bad drops on some plays right there. I look at the offense and I just, I'm trying to figure out where do I feel like it went wrong. like I feel like there was a moment where I thought Caleb Williams is feeling this pressure to put the team on his back again.
Starting point is 00:11:17 And where week one, it kind of just felt like he was working within the offense. And I felt like I just, I found some moments like that. Did you guys feel the same way about Caleb when he was obviously in the game and playing? Yeah, I think at one point, of course, you score 59 points. One, we can get all the praise. And we talked about pregame, don't drink the poison, right? And you want to be that team that breaks the Denver Broncos scoring record. and we get all this talk about how good this offense can be.
Starting point is 00:11:44 And obviously, all of a sudden now, you only got three points and you can't find any rhythm, like you're talking about game. And then maybe you're trying to make too big of a play instead of just staying in the offense. Now, there were times today where, like, you're talking about where, you know, like play action pass,
Starting point is 00:11:59 and there's guys in the backfield, and the pocket is collapsing on him. And obviously, without the All-22, Pat, without the coaches, look, you can't see from the sideline where the receivers are and who's open, who's not, if the ball should come out. out. But you know, I think Greg Olsen mentioned just not a lot of times where he had his back foot in that
Starting point is 00:12:15 game and the ball just came out, right? It was a lot of moving around, running around, making big plays, trying to do the extraordinary stuff instead of just doing the ordinary things, getting the ball in your receivers and your playmaker's hands. We're talking about pregame, about what was this first game this year and then last year when you turn on the film to watch the Bears versus the Vikings. We talk about the accuracy, right, getting the ball through the receiver on the run so they can make plays. So it's going to be an interesting film to watch when you can see all angles and see the sideline
Starting point is 00:12:44 and the coach's view. But I like you're saying, Dave, I think at some one point, they were all probably pressing a little bit after hearing all those compliments all week. Yeah, and I think that's something that sums it up. They had four penalties in a row. Didn't it go first and 10 to second 35 or whatever it was?
Starting point is 00:13:02 I mean, that kind of sums up how this offense looked. When you have four penalties in a row, I mean, the word is unacceptable. It is unacceptable. That sums up the, you know, not getting in rhythm, not playing in order. And it just, that to me right there, when you have four penalties, Roe, you don't hear that often. And especially for an offense that we were seeing in high praises for,
Starting point is 00:13:21 that just sums up how bad they looked all, you know, all game. Yeah, Bears lose to the Minnesota Vikings 9 to 3. It's Gabe Ramirez, Olin Cruz, Patrick Manly, hanging out with you on our post-game show. I try to, you know, obviously, one thing that Bears' and myself we love is when a bearers get a victory because you get a sneak peek into the locker room, right? But you guys have, I'm sure, have been a part of games like this,
Starting point is 00:13:46 where it's not as, it's not as joyful as the club dubs or the good, better, best moments. What is it like in the locker room, like, after a game like this? Because obviously you, you don't feel like this was your game or this was, you know, you guys played to your best ability. So what does it feel like in there? So Gabe, I won't take you to the locker room. I'll take you to the back few rows of bus number two.
Starting point is 00:14:12 Bus number two was post game on road games where we would all sit back there. I would sit with the O line, and that's when everybody would commiserate and talk about the game and, you know, kind of break it down a little bit more. And it'd get serious after games like this. You know, it took a while to maybe smile. It wouldn't be until tomorrow or something like that. But there were a lot of, you know, conversation of what's going on. And it's not fun.
Starting point is 00:14:32 But then to take you into the locker room after like this, after a game like this, everybody's asking what's wrong with Caleb. What happened to Caleb? I was in the locker room and Jay Cutler broke his thumb. I actually tore my ACL that game. So I was in the locker room when he broke his thumb in 2011. And I saw Lovie Smith talking to the doctor. And the doctor told him, you know, his thumb's broken.
Starting point is 00:14:52 And I saw Lovie to shake his head and just, you know, just you could see all that energy just kind of drop out of him. But everybody came in the locker room was asking, what happened? What happened? What happened? And you hear that, you know, Jay's out for the ear. He broke his thumb. And everybody's just head just drops. And you feel the energy drop in the locker room.
Starting point is 00:15:07 And it's tough. But then you have to rally around each other. You get back to the building the next day. You probably go somewhere after this game and go have a beer and a meal with your family. And, you know, you kind of get over it a little bit. But the next day you got to get in and realize, hey, it's Tyson-Bajun time. How are we going to win games? And that's what it's like in the locker room.
Starting point is 00:15:23 That's what takes place. Yeah, they're probably down in there right now with their leader going down, right? And then they lost the game, those kind of games that they won seven of these kind of games last year, right? Late in the game, they're down there to win again. and then they don't win it. And then, you know, obviously, how many times did they lose the takeaway battle last year? So today they were minus two. Right.
Starting point is 00:15:44 So that's something they got to get fixed. Pat talked about the penalties. You talked about them being in rhythm, right? Second play of the game, Caleb drops the snap. Now he gains 19 yards, but immediately, you know, okay, his weather is affecting them. Right. Remember, he dropped the snap, picked it up and ran, and he had 19 yards off of that. So when you're in the locker room after this game, you're trying to hold it together, man.
Starting point is 00:16:05 But you're worried about your quarterback. worried about your star player. You had all these aspirations of being this certain offense and you know things you got to pivot and like Pat said you got to get going if he is out here for one two three four weeks or whatever it may be you do have to pick it up again and go back and do your job but there's no doubt right now that day like us are deflated in that locker room first of all they lost first of all there was a lot of mental mistakes they weren't disciplined right the young coach is taking a look at what everything he's been doing right
Starting point is 00:16:36 and saying, okay, that hasn't been working, man. They overcame all the penalties in the first game, but they were just undisciplined in the first half against the Minnesota Vikings today. So they have a lot to correct the leaders on that defense. Obviously, the defense plays better today, right? They hold the Vikings to nine points, Carson Wentz. But again, I don't know what we were watching today.
Starting point is 00:16:59 I don't know what to believe and what not to believe. Kind of like the first week gave, you asked us in the pregame show, what was real in the first week? Well, same thing with the second week. I don't know what was real with all that rain out there. I couldn't answer to you when I watched him how much it was affecting what they were trying to do in offense. But what was real is what Pat mentioned. They were holding.
Starting point is 00:17:17 That was real. They couldn't line up. That was real. Guys were moving when other guys were in motion. That was real. They have a lot of young players, though, on that office trying to get them lined up. Like, look, Luther Burden, you got to know where to line up. Like, you've got to know where to line up in the NFL.
Starting point is 00:17:31 That's just the way it goes. That's how hard this game is. We can't worry about you lining up. then we got to get you back to the other side. Now we got to delay a game penalty, right? Davian Thomas, you've got to get set so we can get the guy in motion. And if you're not set and Rausch is motioning, our co-committs motioning, guess what?
Starting point is 00:17:46 That's illegal formation, right? So those are things that they have to work on. The young coach has to get on the young players. But as far as the offense goes and watching the defense day and all that stuff, and the main point of our pregame show gave that you brought to us was what the first week was real. What was real the second week out of what we saw with all that rain out there? That I won't know. Now we got to wait to the third week to figure this all out again.
Starting point is 00:18:10 Yeah, and the hope is that we can put it all together. I mean, you're absolutely right. You think about it from a fan's perspective. It's deflating, right, where you thought penalties were a symptom of a brand new offense of Ben Johnson implementing this complex scheme. And here you are in year two and all offseason. All I've been hearing is there's going to be a leap because it's year two of Caleb, year to of Ben Johnson. Well, the hope was that that would be for the entire offense, right? I'm not talking about the points. I'm talking about operation. When you see Cole Komet, lining up where he was when they're pointing it out, from a fan's perspective, you're like, man, I thought we were past that. I thought this, you know, and then you see how deflating it is, not just for Caleb Williams,
Starting point is 00:18:48 not just for Ben Johnson, but for the entire team. And my question for you, Olin, is in situations like that, is that, I know the burden is always on the coach because they're the coach. But do the other players on the offensive line feel that as well? Because Caleb Williams is going down now, right? So who's going to be the one to be to motivate, not motivate, I guess talk to those guys or or is that even something that people do anymore in the NFL with your, with your friend? Yeah, that's that's a great question, man. Like how do you talk to these guys?
Starting point is 00:19:18 How do you get them going? How do you get them focused and paying attention? Things that we know in the NFL is number one is this. You don't jump offside. You don't go make illegal formations on Sunday. You get called for it on Sunday. But you're practicing that on Wednesday. You're practicing that on Thursday.
Starting point is 00:19:32 You're practicing that on Friday. So that's when leadership and the older guys come in and help set the standard for Coach Johnson, right? So Coach Johnson, he wants some things done a certain way, and then we all got to do it that way and make sure we're focused on all the little details, Pat, that it takes to win football games, man. And right now, you're not doing it. You're not going to beat the really good football teams, getting all these penalties that you are getting and doing all the things that we're doing, the undiscipline football we're seeing. And then, obviously, we see the takeaways today.
Starting point is 00:20:01 and we talked about, you know, Devin Bush, I don't want to get too much on. I did drop it, but it's in the rain. And you see, Justin Jefferson dropped the ball in the end zone on the first drive, right? So you know it was tough out there today, Pat. But we did talk about the beginning of this season who would be the guys who would set the culture for Coach Johnson, Pat.
Starting point is 00:20:20 Remember, we talked about, okay, you know, you lost Bayard. Right, Byard is not here. You lost Billings. You lost Tremaine Edmins. You lost DJ Moore. You lost all these older guys there. So now these younger guys get to step up and make sure that when, you know, we talked about earlier in this show, when the poison hits the locker room, right, the poison in from last week, all of us saying, man, you are the greatest thing since sliced bread. You got to make sure you go in there with a little chip on your shoulder as a leader and make everyone feel like they lost the game. Like you go in there like you lost the football game. Like you're angry about something. Everybody says, what the hell is wrong with that guy? But you're getting to say you're making everyone go in the right direction.
Starting point is 00:20:57 Gabe, I questioned that a lot when Olin walked in the locker room, not right next to me in the morning. I'm like, didn't we just win? What's wrong with you on Wednesday morning? What's coming in today? Oh, okay, it's time to go back to work. I got you. I got you. Okay, never mind. Fun's over. Let's go. We're playing home so-and-so this weekend. But the other thing to that point is, coaches now have two games on tape. They can really evaluate these guys. So yes, player can hold a player accountable. But now if a guy's not playing well, and I'll call him out as Sam Roush. If he's dropping balls and making penalties and missing a block on that field goal, you know, you're going to limit your snaps.
Starting point is 00:21:30 They're going to take their snaps away. They're going to put the next guy up. They're going to play him and see what he can do. So there's stuff that can happen. Yes, it can go peer to peer, but it's also that playing time. You start pulling away plays and packages and things like that for certain players. That hits hard. And that's when you know, hey, I've got to step it up.
Starting point is 00:21:47 I know I'm doing something wrong. I've got to get this figured out. Yeah, these are the games where everyone can obviously look in the mirror. They're going to happen throughout the course of the 17, right? Now every game is going to be perfect. Not every game is going to go the way that you wanted to go. But ultimately, you do need games like this so that you can look in the mirror and improve. And hopefully the Bears will continue to do that with a new quarterback under center.
Starting point is 00:22:08 Of course, Caleb Williams, injuring his leg, we're not certain as to what it is exactly. But as soon as news comes down the pipe, we'll certainly fill you in on that. All right, on the other side, we'll continue to talk about the Chicago Bears, specifically the defense who surprised us. just as much as the inability of the Bears offense. How did the rookies do? Dylan Thineman and Malik Mohamed will discuss on the other side. It's Gabe Ramirez.
Starting point is 00:22:31 It's Patrick Finley. It's Olin Kruits. And this is your Timber Tech, Decking and Railing Football Post-Game show, presented by the Rorman Automotive Group. Caleb Williams, how long will he be out for? My heart can't take it. It is Gabe Ramirez, Patrick Manly. Olin Kruits here on the Timber Tech, decking and railing football post-game show
Starting point is 00:22:50 presented by the Rorman Automotive Group. Bears lose to the Minnesota Vires. Vikings, nine to three, after putting up 59 points. The Bears, Caleb Williams, DeAndre Schiff, Ben Johnson, only put up three points in the pouring rain. But guys, I don't know what's more painful. The three points of the fact that Caleb Williams went down in this one, Olin.
Starting point is 00:23:11 Definitely Caleb going down, right? Definitely your word about losing him for the season, especially a non-contact injury, no one's touching him. He goes down. That's your worst nightmare as a player, right? Something just pops or pools. pools while you're out there moving around or doing something. So obviously him going down because one game, you know, you go back to work, get back, get back at it, Pat, make your correction
Starting point is 00:23:33 and get back out the next week. And, you know, at Caleb, they had a shot every week. And that, to me, waiting on that news, if anybody out there knows he's going to be okay, I won't even announce it. You can just let me know somehow, you know, through Twitter or whatever that. It'll be all right because you pick my spirits up, man, but obviously praying for him and hoping that it ain't the news that we all thought it was when we first saw it. Yeah, that's the biggest thing to me. And I'm thinking about this week when you go back to Hallis Hall and your Wednesday, you're putting an install, you walk out on the practice field for the first time.
Starting point is 00:24:06 And it's not Caleb. You know, you walk in on Wednesday morning and you have belief because you have Caleb. All right, I can't wait to see what this game plan is. We've got Caleb. We're going to be okay. We've got Caleb. You know what I mean? That kind of stuff.
Starting point is 00:24:17 You've got players around it. It's not all about Caleb. But when you have a player with that special talent, you have that belief in them. So Wednesday when they walk into that meeting room for the first time and it installs for Tyson Bayesian, it's going to feel a lot different. It's going to feel a whole lot different, but you're going to have to bring that within, man. You just have to kind of bring that belief in within the team that we can still win with Caleb. And that comes from the players, but also the message from Ben Johnson when they start that meeting. But it's just, it is that the word is
Starting point is 00:24:45 deflating and it's hard to deal with three points they can get back. You know, they can come back and score more points later on, hopefully with Tyson Bayesian. But just when you lose a player like him, it's just, it's deflating for that locker room. And it's hard to get going again. You will, but it's just different. It's a different way to get going. Well, you saw it, right? Right after the missed field goal or the block field goal.
Starting point is 00:25:07 Even though Caleb Williams wasn't a member of the defense, the defense seemed a bit deflated, a long minute instead of to go down the field, kick another one. And then, you know, even without Caleb Williams, there still was that belief. I think anybody that was on that offense, Tyson Beijing included, thought that they were going to come down and put up points. But what had Ben Johnson? Head coach of the Chicago Bears have to say, following the 9-3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, take a listen. Guys to talk about there, Caleb with a hamstring and then Tyreek with a hamstring as well. So we'll see where they're at tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:25:45 You know, we said it at halftime just to the team that it was going to come down to the very end. when you're facing a good opponent like this, conditions were the way that they were, you know, points were going to be few and far between when it's like that. And so you kind of feel that in the first half, and sure enough, it came down to the very end there. You know, proud of how our guys went out and they fought and they battled. It's not an easy game to compete in.
Starting point is 00:26:09 You know, you're an offensive player and you're not getting many touches, and yet, you know, you want to just find a way to get out of that thing with the W. And, you know, Tyson comes in. He makes some big throws for it. I thought he operated it really well and put us in a position. Overall, you look at what got us in the first half offensively. We had way too many penalties. I think we had seven in the first half, really threw us off course a little bit.
Starting point is 00:26:36 And against a good defense like that, you can't shoot yourself in a foot. We had way too many turnovers. The block field goal hurts. And then we had missed red zone opportunities just as a whole. So proud of how our defense played throughout that game. I thought they really competed their tails off and kept this in it for the most part. They brought a lot of energy, and it was good to see them respond the way that they did. So I'll open it up from there.
Starting point is 00:27:02 Do you have a sense of this severity of the field? No, we'll know tomorrow. He was a chance to talk to him. Yeah, I just saw him a second ago. He's in good spirits and team player. With the penalties, is that possibly a back part of the time of the defense that shows you so many things? in front. You guys are kind of just overthinking and having a little bit of a lapse on what their particular responsibility is because they're so focused on everything that's happening in front of them
Starting point is 00:27:26 at the line. Yeah, well, it could be. We've got to look at that because, I mean, we practiced a lot of this stuff throughout the week, and we didn't run into those issues. So we'll take a look at what it was that was a little bit off and what we'll get it cleaned up. When he goes down there, I mean, if you're calling plays, you're not much of the time, how bad did you think it was when you saw it? Yeah, I mean, you could kind of see in real time. I'm actually happy it's nothing with the knee. You know, that was my first inclination.
Starting point is 00:28:02 But yet, the hamstring could be pretty damaging as well. So we'll see how bad it is tomorrow. And, you know, we'll go from there. But yeah, it's quickly you've got to turn the page. And particularly when you're right there, we need to points desperately at that point. And, you know, shame. With that 13 personnel today, it seemed like it seemed like there was a lot more,
Starting point is 00:28:28 at least as much as usual. Was that due to what you expect to face from the deepness? Was that about the weather, some combination of both? Yeah, a little bit of both. You know, he's heavy in base defense anyways on first and second down. And so, you know, we just felt like that was the way we wanted to play this one. I know he said it was hard to predict what Flores is going to do, but I think it was 77% of Caleb's dropbacks he was splitz on.
Starting point is 00:28:52 Was that, did you feel that that was going to be the tenor of the game from the jump? Yeah, I mean, early on, you kind of feel like, okay, that's what he wants. It's not like game one last year, that's for sure. So, yeah, it's, there's some things that, you know, looking back at it, I'd love to do a little bit differently. And yet, I mean, that's what makes it so challenging to go against this guy. I think he did a great job. And we get a little momentum coming out of half time there
Starting point is 00:29:22 and we make it all the way down. And then we kind of give it up. We had some points in the bag, I thought. So we just got to make sure we capitalize on every opportunity we get when we face a good defense like that. Yeah, Benmo was working with the run day before that couple of them. Yeah, it seemed like we hit a few. Our guys came out and all on the same page.
Starting point is 00:29:49 You know, it just felt like the running game in general was a little bit sporadic throughout that game. Some, like you said, at a half time, it was a little bit better. And then other parts of the game, it was a little bit more challenging to get that going. When I looked at it at halftime, I think the backs were averaging two yards of carry. So obviously not something we want to hang our hat on. We'll look at it and find out why exactly. But, yeah, like I said, I was proud of how they competed there in the second half. It gave us some opportunities.
Starting point is 00:30:17 the second to last play. Did that operation go as quickly as you wanted it to when Tyson snapped and it snapped at the 10? Felt like they were maybe a couple seconds. Is that how it supposed to go? Second to last play, the one six seconds left, that incomplete with one second left? Before he, yeah, that one. The operation goes as quickly as you wanted it to. I'll look at that again. I mean, everything was moving fast at that point in time. So, yeah, I mean, it was good that when you call a play with that much, time left. I know there's a chance that that's the last play of the game right there.
Starting point is 00:30:51 So when it was incomplete with one second, it was good that we had one more shot. You talked to Campbell about, you know, palms up. Today, the penalties, some drops, constant pressure. It would have been an opportunity from him to be very frustrated. Did you appreciate how he maintained his temperament? His emotions as a leader. Yeah, no, he's a, he's a huge part of what we want to be about, man. He's embraced all that. He's staying positive. He knew that this could be one of the, those type of games where, you know, I told them all week, you got to be patient, got to be patient, got to be patient.
Starting point is 00:31:22 And I thought he was that throughout. You know, he was getting hit a little bit. And like you said, the penalties are certainly frustrating. But, no, he did a great job staying positive throughout at all. Coach, was the rotation of the left tackle part of the plan coming in and that is happened to our cake? Yeah, yeah, that was the plan. Ben, what's your challenge, presuming your out or without kill for at least a little bit? What's the challenge of getting tights and just being in you as a play caller, you know, tailoring,
Starting point is 00:31:47 the playoff? I'm not called plays for him all preseason, so we'll be fine. It just seemed like a couple more plays. It seemed like Eric Bradrae was a little rattle today. He had a few of those procedural penalties. How is that, how is he settling into that role of that center position? He's doing a great job. He's doing a great job.
Starting point is 00:32:03 It's a challenging day for a lot of people. We only scored three points. So, yeah, we got a lot of guys that, myself included. I got to do a better job for these guys. How much of the factor was the weather, just from? The weather was a major factor of this game. It was a big story of this game. Both defensive coordinators did a great job, making it very challenging for the opposing offense.
Starting point is 00:32:30 And so I thought that was the tail of the tape. And like I said, when you get into a game like this, that's where every play is critical. That's where the turnovers really, really hurt you. And, you know, obviously the blocked field goal really hurts us as well. Last two, Chris and Joe. Ben, I know you're still processing everything. year, but what's your message to the players to try to pick these guys out after a tough day like this? Yeah, I mean, they're disappointed.
Starting point is 00:32:54 It's a divisional game. We'll get another chance at them later on, and, you know, we keep it moving. It's early in the season. At first blush, before watching it, take, what stood out about the way your defense played today? What would you like? Well, they came out flying around, and, you know, I thought we had a great plan on that side of the ball. Made things challenging. We always talked about wanting to outrun and out-hit our opponent,
Starting point is 00:33:17 And it felt like we had 11 guys around the ball for the majority of the game, so that was good to see. The Vikings escape with a 9-3 win. And it was the story for a lot of the day that ends it. The Vikings defense. Turner gets the fourth sack of the afternoon. And Minnesota, the lone unbeaten in the NFC North after two weeks. It's almost as if you thought the magic from last season,
Starting point is 00:33:50 was going to carry over. At least that's what I thought. Tyson Bayesian getting sacked. That was like the worst thing that could have happened right there. But I told these guys, it seemed like this game kept getting worse and worse. It is Gabe Ramirez, along with Olin Cruz and Patrick Manedly, right here on 104-3. The score bears loose to the Minnesota Vikings 9 to 3 after putting up 59 points in week one. But we get a chance to discuss it on the Timber Tech, decking, and railing football post-game show presented by the Wormon Automotive Group.
Starting point is 00:34:18 Olin, I know you were damn near in tears when you saw Caleb Williams hit the floor, and then it got worse when the Bears ended up losing this game. Yeah, it did get worse, and obviously we talked about a little earlier that we didn't know what was real and what wasn't in week one, right? Is that 59 points real? How real was this offense? And this continues again, Pat, with this week because of all the rain, right? What was real out there?
Starting point is 00:34:43 What wasn't? How effective could the offense be? We saw fumbled snaps early on from the Vikings and. and the Bears, right? You saw the Vikings snap the ball over Wences' head on a third and two. You saw Caleb fumbled the ball on a second play of the game. We saw drop passes all over the field. How much was that rain affecting the players? And then, you know, obviously everyone gets deflated when Caleb goes down. And now we're hearing maybe hamstring injury pat, which may be the best news I've got it today. I'll take that loss if Caleb's coming back this year. I'll tell you that much.
Starting point is 00:35:14 That's, hey, that's a good one. You're right. I'll take the loss if he's coming back. in a couple weeks, maybe a month or whatever would be. I don't know. I'm not speculating, but I guess I am speculating, but I don't know, but I will take that over. You did this stand a motel six last night? I am. That's where I'm at right now. No, it's just, it is very deflating that it happened, but that is
Starting point is 00:35:34 good news if it's not an Achilles. I think everybody all across Twitter, you know, the social media platforms, we're thinking an Achilles, that's what it looked like to me when you see the non-contact run like that, but he didn't go grab for it. So that is good news that came out of this, but unfortunately, before he got hurt, the offense did not look good with all those penalties, illegal motions, illegal formations.
Starting point is 00:35:56 It was just an ugly day all around offensively. And, you know, Ben Johnson talked about there were things that they practiced that didn't show up on the field. So it's execution. They didn't get it done right. I don't know if that's him pointing fingers and players that, hey, we've talked about it. We try to do it right. And you guys, but the other thing, too, guys, you know, the weather, you talked about the weather. when a head coach talks about weather, that means it's really real.
Starting point is 00:36:19 Because a lot of times the coach is like, oh, it's not the weather. We just got to execute better. We got to play better. But that was real. I mean, that was a slog fest of the rain. And when you can see the rain on TV, that means it's really raining. So when I started seeing it on TV, I'm like, all right, this is just a downpour. This is an ugly game.
Starting point is 00:36:36 But that's not an excuse to pre-snap penalties. That's not an excuse to, you know, making mistakes like they did on offense of some of those things. the drops and the errant passes, I understand all that. But just it is unfortunate. They hear 59 points or watch 59 points the first week and see three points this week. Yeah, so Dr. Jekyll and Mr. High kind of a performance right there. Bears eight penalties, 58 yards. Last week after going 10 for 14 on third downs, we were talking about how efficient they work.
Starting point is 00:37:04 Keeping drives going, bears just five for 15 today. And so, you know, you talk about the weather and you could point to Tyson, and Bayesian's ball to Colston Loveland. You could talk about DeAndre Swift's fumble on the goal line and whether, you know, the rain and the weather contributed to that. But just missteps by the Chicago Bears. I mean, I don't think you could point to one thing. I think it was this entire game, even without Caleb Williams, which could have had the
Starting point is 00:37:27 touchdown run had he been able to continue running behind his tight end. But I think there were just multiple moments that you could point to in this one that you felt like they just couldn't get the things going. Yeah, you know, you talk about, say, last week when Gary Brad Berry had had a holding call on third and one against the Panthers. And on the next play, Caleb hits Luther Burden for 15 yards, no problem, right? Convert a third and 11th. Today it's third and eight in the first quarter.
Starting point is 00:37:52 And the Vikings do blitz, but Caleb gets it out. And it's just right off of Roma Dunzei's fingertips, right? And we just didn't get that kind of play to get momentum going on that offense to convert third downs, right? And even on a third and 12, I think early in the game, Caleb rose out. I thought there was crosses there if he would have stuck in the pocket. and hit one of those crosses, but he rose out and throws the interception to Brian Murphy, right? So just that kind of early, with early signs that, okay, this isn't going to be like last week, right?
Starting point is 00:38:20 This offense is a little out of rhythm, and you kept waiting for them to find their rhythm through the running game or through a big pass play. And obviously that never really happened today. And Caleb going down like we're talking about, you know, I know Tyson Bayes is a good backup quarterback and everyone had belief like it was going to be last year. But I've got to be honest, me sitting there, and that's not, Taylor Williams, I didn't have as strong as a feeling that they were going to put that ball in the hands on. Yeah, then I got to talk about special teams, guys, all the mishaps in the game. That blocked field goal was huge.
Starting point is 00:38:51 That ties the game, right? That changes, that could change the outcome. That changes momentum. You talk about all that stuff. And, you know, Bo Gardner had a high snap. That's a rookie there that had a high snap that was not botched. It had to be, like, hiccuffed a little bit to put down. So that causes a little bit slower get off for Cairo to get there.
Starting point is 00:39:07 And then Sam Roush, a rookie left wing, misses. with the left hand on the punch. So the guy basically has a clean run to the block field goal. And if he gets a hand on him, Cairo probably makes that kick because he has enough time to get it off. But, you know, I had a coach once tell me the rookies get you beat.
Starting point is 00:39:25 And that's one right there. You had two rookies that didn't execute properly and didn't do their job and they were off just by a hair. And that's all it takes. It's just a little bit. And that's three points off the board. And that's a tie game in late in the fourth quarter. So there were errors everywhere. And you can blame weather or whatnot, but I've played in it.
Starting point is 00:39:40 You still got to get the snap properly. You still have to block the guy on the left wing and get your left hand, at least on the guy's inside chest pad to slow him down to get into that block, and he didn't do it. So that's two guys that made mistakes. And the special teams, you know, let the team down as well, offensively and special teams. But defensively, I thought they played pretty well.
Starting point is 00:40:00 They bounced back from a game last week. They didn't play well. But, you know, that's two phases of the team that didn't get their job done today. Yeah, it seems like, you know, everybody has to do this. job. And when it comes to field goals, I don't know what it is, man. It's Bears fans, you know, it's like, they hit the uprights. It goes in. Bears get field goals blocked. Like, this is just like, I mean, Bizarro land a lot of these times, but we'll continue to talk about this Bears game. Hey, phone lines are open. You want to talk to Patrick? You want to talk to Olin?
Starting point is 00:40:27 312, 644, 67, Caleb goes down, but I know your frustrations are still high with the overall performance. We got your calls on the other side. Don't go anywhere. It's Gabe Ramirez. Olin Cruz, Patrick Manley here on the Timber Tech Decking and Railing Football Postgame show, presented by the Roman Automotive Group. First down and goal, Swift in the game at running back. He's got it. DeAndre Swift. Second Chicago turnover of the day, and it comes right at the goal line.
Starting point is 00:41:07 Minnesota takes over. Probably on what was the best drive for the Chicago Bears. Certainly thought you were to get some point at the end of that when DeAndre Swift ends up fumbling. You heard him mention second turnover of the day. Caleb Williams with an interception
Starting point is 00:41:22 prior to that. Bears lose 9 to 3. Heartbreaking, gut wrenching. Caleb Williams goes down what some are calling a hamstring injury, but we have to talk about it
Starting point is 00:41:34 right now on the Timber Tech decking and railing football post game show presented by the Roman Auto Board of Group. I'm Gabe Ramirez. We got Olin Cruz here. We got Patrick Manly. Guys, I feel like I'm getting
Starting point is 00:41:45 more upset as the post game continues. Like it's all settling in. You know, I have to finish the game, come right here onto the post game. And now I'm starting to realize, like, wait, Tyson Bayes is going to be the quarterback of this Bears team next week. Bears only put up three. The Vikings are in first place in the NFC, North Sydney at 2 and 0. Pat, it seems like I'm in Bizarro world right now.
Starting point is 00:42:04 Yeah, they have two division wins, you know, winning last week against the Green Bay Packers and now beating the Bears. They're double ahead of us. Yeah, it is Bizarro world just from going from this morning at 9 a.m. when we start pregame to how excited we are to see Ben Johnson go against Brian Flores in this defense with Caleb Williams to see now them only put up three points and not have Caleb Williams at least for next week it looks like. It is Bizarro World. And Olin, you talked about Bizarro World Seinfeld this morning with all the different characters
Starting point is 00:42:33 and the way that goes in that episode. And that's what it feels like now because we do have different characters. So it's disappointing. But listen, they've got 15 more games. And they still have everybody else out there with the, like you said, We talked about DeAndre Swift there, unfortunately, with the fumble, but they've got a lot of players on this offense, and we'll see what Ben Johnson can do with Tyson Bayesian.
Starting point is 00:42:52 You know, there were talks about trading him in the preseason. You know, you could get something good for him. What can we get for him? And everybody's like, well, what if Caleb gets hurt? Knock on wood, everybody was knocking on wood, he wouldn't get hurt. Well, he is hurt. So now let's see what can happen. Yeah, and Gabe, I think, you know, we talked about a lot.
Starting point is 00:43:09 The reason why you get angry as the show goes on is you realize how many mistakes the Bears made, right? how many penalties they had. And the level and the discipline that the offense played at, it was what frustrates you. You can take the of not executing plays, and maybe the weather affecting you just can't take all the penalties. And really it's been for two weeks in a row like we talked about.
Starting point is 00:43:30 We talked about they had a bunch of penalties in Carolina. They just overcame them. But you know you can't keep doing that in NFL. You can't keep making those kind of mistakes. You can't keep being undisciplined. And you had so much hope going into this game that this offense would show you that. they are for real that that week one wasn't something that we weren't going to see ever again.
Starting point is 00:43:51 And then you start worrying about that as you watch today's game. And you watch now, it's okay, wasn't the weather. And then Caleb gets hurt. And then Bay is not able to finish at the end of the game. And some of it looks like he just doesn't have Caleb's arm talent there. So you start to worry about that. So you worried about a lot of stuff. And obviously as a Bears fan, you're deflated.
Starting point is 00:44:08 You're a little happier now that maybe Caleb has in hamstring injury that he can come back from. because I know Ben Johnson mentioned, you know, he was happy it wasn't the knee. I'm going to say I'm happy it wasn't the Achilles when I first watched it. So if it is the hamstring and he can come back, it gives you a little bit of hope. But we have the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night next week, right? And that's going to be a tough challenge for this Bears offense and this Bears football team again, especially if they don't have their signal caller. The football gods blessing the Bears after a wonderful week.
Starting point is 00:44:40 That's what you get. The Philadelphia Eagles on a Monday night. Yeah. It's frustrating. two, because the assumption was that the Bears were that much better than the Vikings, right? The assumption was that the Bears had taken this next step in the football evolution where you are now a part of the teams in the upper echelon of the NFL. At least that's the assumption in Bears fans' minds.
Starting point is 00:45:02 So you come into a game like today, you're like, okay, Carson Wentz is there. You know, they lose Jordan Mason. You know what you're going to get in Brian Flores, but the Bears and Caleb still going to be able to come out on top. So I think, you know, that to me is the most frustrating part where, you know, you look at week two. And the cynic in you guys, right, the cynic in you as a Bears fan, you look at this and you say, all right, are they going to be able to duplicate it where the words should be, yes, they should. But, you know, I guess what we can't do as Bears fans, Patrick, is wrap our brain around the different game script that exists week in and week out, right? It's not going to be 59 to 30 every single week. there are going to be different scenarios in how you win these games.
Starting point is 00:45:46 And that just happens throughout the course of an NFL season. Well, let me ask you this about the game script. You got down to the fourth quarter with a play where Caleb got hurt. I was like, all right, it is the fourth quarter. Caleb's bringing him back in the fourth quarter to win this game. So I thought he was writing the script like he did last year. It felt that script felt the same. Okay, points and outputs aren't the same with points.
Starting point is 00:46:06 But yeah, when he got down there, I'm like, here he goes again. Fourth quarter, I felt comfortable. I felt confident. and I bet the Bears did too on the sideline that hey, here we go, he's going to get us in the end zone, defense will stop him, we'll win this game, it's an ugly game, we'll talk about the weather, our offense made some mistakes, we still won,
Starting point is 00:46:22 we'll learn from them, you know, we'll talk about the weather more because it was a factor. But I felt like the script was kind of ripped the same, that Caleb was going to win it at the end for us, and then he goes down. So that's, you know, that's like tearing a page out of the book there, which is unfortunately, it's just ripping that script apart. But I felt like it was kind of the same that, okay,
Starting point is 00:46:41 we're going to get this win. We'll walk away. It's going to be ugly, but we'll be 2 and O and we'll learn from it. Yeah, there was a way to look better and not score 59 points. But that, I mean, take away the penalties, right? Play better football. Play more disciplined and have the defense show up like they did today. Have T.J. Edwards make plays on 3rd and 13 like he did when he was one-on-one
Starting point is 00:47:03 with the running back. And he found the running back in the flat. And he ran him down and made that tackle. And he made a few plays like that today's game. Greg Olson pointed out, right? And you know where the Chicago Bears want to go with Ben Johnson talks about his winning playoff games and being Super Bowl champs, right? So that is what you're watching for when you say, okay, is this football team for real or are the Panthers just that bad that day, right? And I lean to more towards that the Chicago Bears were for real. And as Pat is saying,
Starting point is 00:47:31 good teams play really bad and find ways to win football games. And it seems like they're on a doorstep to do that, right? Be minus two in a turnover battle. Have, don't, play well and then about to take the lead with your young quarterback on a boot out and then he goes down and of course the whole stadium goes quiet and everyone's deflated and he's on a carp and man I mean waving to the fans and I mean I'm on my couch miserable like you mentioned Gabe but gosh man I hope this young guy is all right I hope he can play because he's a big part what the Chicago Bears are and what they want to do so hopefully he's healthy but as far as the Chicago Bears team as a whole goes defense look better today but man on offense we got to line up we got to get rid of
Starting point is 00:48:11 penalties. We've got to stop making mistakes. We can't turn the ball over. Just everything that could have went wrong today went wrong. Of course, you're listening to the Post-Games Show brought to you by the Vorman Automotive Group, home of the $50 oil change. Make sure you visit them online at whorman.com, Gabe Ramirez, Patrick Manonle, Olin Crews hanging out with you guys. Bears lose 9-3-3-3-3. Phone lines are open. 312-644-6-47. We'd love to get your thoughts and hear your frustrations about this one. know, oh, when you bring up the defensive side of the ball, there were some things that stood out that made you feel good.
Starting point is 00:48:45 The T.J. Edwards stopped on the dump off was absolutely incredible. Dylan Theeneman playing with some aggression and some fearful. Like, you loved seeing him flying all over the field. But then you saw Jalen Johnson in a couple moments. Get beat over the top. You saw T.J. Hawkinson beat him on that critical play in the fourth quarter. It still seems like Jalen Johnson. We talk about the ramp up for T.J. Edwards.
Starting point is 00:49:06 Seems like Jalen Johnson still going through that as well. Yeah, it looks that way. I just don't know what's going on. Is he trying to get into the flow back into the season? I mean, it's week two. He needs to get going. There's a lot of expectations on him. And I know he has him on himself.
Starting point is 00:49:22 And he's not playing to that level. That's two weeks in a row. It's disappointing to see. Tyreek Stevenson, I thought, played better. You know, it's another guy that last week that struggled. But, yeah, Jalen Johnson is the guy you're leaning on. That's your all pro. That's your pro-bow cornerback.
Starting point is 00:49:36 You talk about a cornerstone of a defense. You need a corner, you know, a pass rusher, but a corner is the guy that you lean on that you can say, hey, that half of the field is taken away. And he's struggling the first two weeks. And that's not good to see. And I'm sure Dennis Allen is on him. I'm sure he's on himself.
Starting point is 00:49:51 But he's got to pick up his play because what we've seen in the past is better what he's put on tape the last two weeks. Definitely. Right. I hear Greg Olsen talk about his eyes, right? We talked about it in the pregame. His eyes is just trying to make big plays and not playing fundamental football and just do your job, right, Pat?
Starting point is 00:50:08 And sometimes we've all been there where you're on a team. you don't think you're surrounded by a lot of talent, and you think you have to make really big plays so everyone, so you can basically carry one side of football. And I've had coaches before. Tell me, Olin, just play center. That's why you're here. Just do what the center is supposed to do on every play,
Starting point is 00:50:27 and that's what Jalen Johnson needs to do right now. Go back, keep it simple. Just do your job. Don't try to do too much. Don't try to get the pig. Don't try to get the big play. Don't try to get the takeaway. Those things will all come, right?
Starting point is 00:50:38 So he has a great coach. And Al Harris, he has a good defense quarter in Dennis. Allen. They'll let him know. Like, look, man, just go out there, play cornerback, do the small things correctly. Don't try to make the big plays. Don't guess, right? Just play your position, play the rules of the defense, fit in where you're supposed to fit in. And, you know, we'll send you on cornerback blitzes like they did today when Devin Bush almost had the interceptions. So sometimes you're the guy causing the big play for somebody else. It seems like right now to me he's trying to force it, right, trying to sit down on things, trying to guess where Carson
Starting point is 00:51:09 Wentz is going to go with the football. he's paying dearly for that. So he's got to go back, man. Do the things you're supposed to do. Cover the guys you're supposed to cover. And just slowly but surely those big plays start coming again because we heard that he had a great camp. We heard that he looked good physically.
Starting point is 00:51:24 That's all I heard all offseason. We're really excited about that because I think he's top five cornerback in the NFL when he's playing at his highest level. And that he's certainly up for the challenge. Justin Jefferson, three catches on the day, just 55 yards. So I'm sure if you talk to Jaylon Johnson, he'll say, yeah, his job was done. Carson went to 11 for 20.
Starting point is 00:51:42 for a buck 43 no touchdowns no interceptions either but sack three times on the day all right let's go out to the phones 312 644 67 67 let's go out to quentin on the west side quentin bears lose this one and it was a gut punch when you saw caleb williams go down yeah i know i had a co-worker text to me oh keel's injured uh if the season over no it's not we got we got tyson beger we got um got the other quarterback. And then once we call up that four-string quarterback, Moss-Miller, then that'd be fine. I mean, we got Tyson-Bas and Case Keatem, and we can call up Moss-Millow. That way, we can have three quarterbacks.
Starting point is 00:52:26 We got to protect the ball. Stop with the pilities. Stop with the mistakes. We need to protect. We got to have good protection also, too. And we got two home games left, and that's the Eagles and the Jazz. All we have to do is win. and we'll be back on top.
Starting point is 00:52:44 That's what I'm doing. Appreciate the call, Joe. Guys, when you think about Tyson-Bajun, I mean, obviously he's going to be getting the start. People feel comfortable and confident with him being the backup. But it's going to be a different team, right, Patrick? I mean, we know that. Ben Johnson is still calling the same plays
Starting point is 00:53:01 or making a little bit more vanilla with a guy like Tyson-Bajun coming in? I think you deal with more of an Olin-Hitt earlier as about the arm talent's different, right? So you're going to call a little bit different. plays. You're going to structure the offense around him a little bit more of what his strength scar compared to Caleb's strengths. And when you lose a guy of Caleb's caliber, when you can do everything with that guy, the playbook is completely open. But Ben Johnson's seen enough at Tyson Bayesian. He knows what his strengths are, and he'll figure out what they are.
Starting point is 00:53:30 I just don't think you're going to see as many deep balls or deep crossers and things like that because of the arm talent that Tyson has compared to Caleb. But I believe in Ben Johnson, and he'll figure out the right things to do with Tyson to get him going. And it'll be a collaborative effort where they're going to talk to each other and see what he's comfortable with, what he likes to call, what he likes to run. But, you know, Ben Johnson knows what he's doing. And I believe in him that he will dial up something favorable for Tyson Bayesian. But again, we've got a run game.
Starting point is 00:53:58 The Bears have a run game that they can lean on heavily to help Tyson Bayesian. Yeah, if Tyson Bayesian plays quarterback, like the caller said, you can win football games, man. And look, a lot of things haven't changed after the last game, right? We still have the best play caller in the NFL. You still have Ben Johnson there on the sideline. We still have the best right side offensive line, right guard, right tackle, and Jonah Jackson. And Darnell, right?
Starting point is 00:54:20 You said of Colson Loveland, who some think can be the best pass catching tight in NFL. You got Luther Burden, who people say is going to be a star. Co-Commet, right? You got the O-line blocker of the year in Joe Tunney. You got DeAndre Swift, who we all raved about pregame that was on fire. He's hot. He got his contract last week. NFC, an offensive player of the week.
Starting point is 00:54:39 So those guys all got to raise their game a little bit if the backup quarterback is starting. And then they gave Tyson Bayesian two years and $10 million for a reason, right? They paid him early because they really like this young quarterback. And a lot of people think that he can be a starting quarterback in the NFL. That's why there was trade rumors about him in the offseason. So I think that on offense, if you think Caleb's going down, I think on offense, they could be fine.
Starting point is 00:55:02 Obviously, you start to think about, okay, can this defense keep playing like they play today? right? Can they hold their guys to nine points or under 17 points or under 20 points a game? Because I don't know if we're going to score or beat the Denver Broncos record there at with Tyson Bayesian at quarterback. So obviously a little step down at the quarterback position, but not that big of a step, not to where you can't win football games with this young quarterback. He's Olin Croutes, along with Patrick Manley. I'm Gabe Ramirez here on the Timber Tech Decking and Railing Football Postgame show. Presented by Roman Automotive. We're taking some phone calls 312. 644, 67. Let's take one more before we go to break. Let's go to Joe out in Logan Square.
Starting point is 00:55:42 Joe, tough loss for the Chicago Bears today. Yeah, man, you know, a couple things. Shout out Dylan Thineman and then Malik Mohamed. Definitely got giving big ups. You know, rookies came to play last two weeks. I'll say, you know, I'd said it when they picked him Sam Rouse, not trying to give him, you know, all the criticism, but he definitely let go with a few plays.
Starting point is 00:56:05 Man, you know, just heart goes up. about the Caleb, man. Storm Caleb, we trust. You know, I think what you guys said, I mean, we got a run game going still. You know, we got Ben Johnson. You know, I still got high hope season's not over, but man, just still left my body when Caleb went down. Yeah, I think you and the rest of Chicago right there, Joe. We all felt like Casper when Caleb Williams' body hit the ground. But Olin, you know, we talk about the run game, but it's the offensive line too, right?
Starting point is 00:56:36 I'm sure those guys are looking at each other and saying, all right, fellas, you know, what we got to do, handle business to give our team, you know, opportunity to kind of hold things down for, you know, the next few weeks because we don't know how long Caleb is going to be out. Right. And the office line, obviously, you've got to take a little more responsibility, right? If Caleb is out, you get a little more of a pocket quarterback, a guy who sits in there and wants to get the ball out, so protection becomes paramount. We talked about going into this game that you were facing Baba Yaga, the boogeyman, right, Flores. and he did a great job today with the looks he put out there on the office line. He was confusing him. Obviously, again, I don't know how much was the rain and the looks and the blitzing,
Starting point is 00:57:14 but there were pressure there, right? There was some, the pocket was collapsing sometimes. There were holding calls on, you know, Braxton Jones had a holding call. Garry Bradbury had a holding call. Obviously, he got erased by the ruffing the passer call on Kayla Williams. But there was not the protection pat that you expected to see today from the Chicago Bears. but if we probably are going to see Bayesian, at least next week, from what we saw today at Soldier Field. And then, yes, a little more responsibility on that offensive line.
Starting point is 00:57:42 Garrett Bradbury, the center has to play a better game, get adjusted, obviously, through the Chicago Bear Snap Counter, whatever is going on there in the middle of that offensive line. Everyone's got to raise their level if the backup quarterback steps in and he has to play for Caleb Williams. Olin, what did you see going on with that with the snaps? Could you tell from the TV copy? Was he hitching the ball? It was just not ready to go, or do you know what it was? Could you tell?
Starting point is 00:58:07 Yeah, he was hitting the ball, and it looked like they were breaking the huddle late, and it wasn't going to be delayed a game. And, you know, obviously sometimes, like, you know, the snap count has to change there. Yeah, speed it up and get it going. Like, he was weighing on Caleb and kind of getting used to each other. I was surprised to see it, you know, rear its head at home, right? I rear its head at home with the snap count and those things going on.
Starting point is 00:58:27 But they had those problems last year, too, with Dolman at Center early on. You remember, they had some flinching and some early snapping, and Dalman was getting called for those kind of penalties also last year. So they went through this a little bit last year. You thought they would have it solved this year. But obviously there is a new center in there. Obviously, at center, as you know, you're just waiting for the rhythm, right? You're always trying to have a rhythm to the quarterback's cadence.
Starting point is 00:58:47 He used to the quarterback. And it just seemed like that was a little off today. Yeah, and we saw it on the other side too, right? Getting out of this huddle late. Blake Brandel, the center for the Vikings with Semek out, Juergens out. Now he comes in, miscommunications, you see the snapover. over Carson Wentz's head on that Viking second drive. You've got to be lock and step with your QB if you want to get things done.
Starting point is 00:59:09 But we're locking step right now as we hang out with you guys up until 5 o'clock. Of course, Gabe Ramirez, Olin-Cruitts, Patrick Manning Lee, hanging out with you guys. Phone lines are open 312, 644, 67, are you disappointed in what you saw in the Chicago Bears' offense after putting 59 points on the board? Or are you just smarting after the injury to Caleb Williams and your gut and your heart are hurting? We'll take your phone calls on the other side.
Starting point is 00:59:34 Don't go anywhere. You are listening to the Timber Tech, Decking and Railing Football Post Game Show, presented by the Rorman Auto Moved Group right here on 1043, the score. Second and five, Jones again. Ivinson, Knox his helmet off. Pressure, that corner blitz. First time, is it impacted,
Starting point is 01:00:06 in the first half, it impacted the passing game. He literally knocks his helmet off. Wow. That is your hit of the game, sponsored by S-Wing Professional Tools Made in the USA for over 100 years, visit them at S-wing.com. Tyreeks Stevenson
Starting point is 01:00:27 Lay in the wood on Aaron Jones. That was crazy. The helmet coming off. I haven't seen that too many times, especially not from a cornerback. I am Gabe Ramirez here on the Timber Tech Decking and Railing Football Post Games show presented by the Vorman Automotive Group hanging out with Olin Kruits
Starting point is 01:00:43 and Patrick Manil. When you saw Tyreek, I mean, this is a guy who talked about at length, Patrick. know in the pregame show about his need to step up, especially in his contract year. I felt like he had himself, he had that one miss against Justin Jefferson early in the game, but I thought overall, I thought he played well. I did too. I did too. And Olin just sent us the video here on our text chat.
Starting point is 01:01:06 He's going to get fine for that. I'm sorry, it's unfortunate. It's a great hit, but that's helmet to helmet. I feel bad for him because it was a hell of a hit. That is the hit of the game. But I like his aggressive style. I like him playing. I like the way he bounced back from week one.
Starting point is 01:01:19 That's what we were kind of hoping Jalen Johnson would do. You read Justin Jefferson's numbers. They weren't great. But overall, you know, you want, I'm talking about Jalen Johnson, not a little bit too much, but want him to play better. But I thought Tyreek Stevenson, after a disappointing showing in week one where even Dennis Allen talked about him in his weekly press conference on Wednesday came up and played a much better game. And when you have a corner like that that plays physical in the run game, that's fun to watch.
Starting point is 01:01:43 That's contagious for everybody on the defense. And we talked a lot about, you know, the rookies and their contribution. Not just Dylan thinnaman, but you know, Malik Muhammad on the outside. He saw him near whenever a play was coming about. And, you know, some of the newest additions, right? Devin Bush drops the ball, but, you know, you found them in right places the majority of the time. And, you know, we talked about the defense Olin before the game, right? And we knew, we said, hey, is it more like what's more real?
Starting point is 01:02:09 The 37 points of the 4 and 78 yards. And neither one of them matter. You just needed them to play a little bit better. And I mean, although the, obviously the result is not what you wanted, I know, Dennis Allen is going to be happy when he talks at his defensive unit. Yeah, he is going to be happy with the improvement, right? And you see that around the league with the Panthers winning today 34 to 3 after giving a 59 points to Chicago Bears, right?
Starting point is 01:02:31 So guys are going to go and they're going to make corrections and things are going to change week to week. That's the way the NFL is. But as far as the defense goes, Tyreek Stevenson, I did send you guys that video because I figured I would video it when I'm having a bad day during the week. I'll turn that on and it'll cheer me up, right? Tyrus Stevenson. Coming downhill here, Greg O'Soree going.
Starting point is 01:02:48 sell on a cat blitz. As Pat knows, you know, his cat crow, that's cornerback blitz. We put a C in front of the word, and we think we're smart in the NFL, and that would hide the fact that we want to blitz the cornerback. But bringing Tyrese, I don't know, no, you guys, I've never questioned his aggression. Never questioned him. They're willing to tackle, they're willing to get out there and start a street fight with people.
Starting point is 01:03:10 He has a lot of that kind of energy, right? It's what you hear about coming out of building. It's his focus week to week and understanding coverages and where he's supposed to be on the field. what he needs to work on. But today was a good game. I do remember a game like you're talking about when he was in coverage against Justin Jefferson there, got challenged laying in the game and May came up with the play.
Starting point is 01:03:28 Defense did a good job. I thought they corrected a lot of things today. But again, we're going to go into the Philadelphia Eagles, guys, and ask the same questions we asked in week one. How real was that, right? Was it real or was it the weather? Was it the rain that was slowing both offenses down in Carson Wentz? I think now, guys, I think he's 5-0 against the Chicago Bears.
Starting point is 01:03:45 Correct me if I'm wrong, which is kind of crazy. not the best quarterback, right? Not a guy you have to really worry about that. We had the better quarterback and the better coach going into this game. He just wanted the Bears to find a way to win it and we didn't. So I'm sure both sides, like last week, right? It's just, okay, did we win or lose the football game? So the defense is saying now, we didn't do enough, right?
Starting point is 01:04:06 We played better, but we didn't do enough to win the football game. The other thing, too, is how much is Dennis Allen learning his personnel? You know, blitzing Malik Mohamed, getting the sack with him? Is he going to be a good blitzer for him? He's learning all these guys, learning Devin Bush as a linebacker, learning the new safeties back there, learning how, what are these guys good in, what schemes are they good in, what positions can I put them in to maximize their ability. So he's got two weeks of tape now. He made a big improvement from week one to week two, and he's kind of finding out what these guys can do.
Starting point is 01:04:39 And I'm expecting all of them to improve, and we saw a nice improvement from week one to week two. And we get an opportunity to see it. Monday night, Bears taking on the Eagles. as Olin just mentioned. And we'll get to find out who the Bears actually are or continue to find out, right? Week one, an anomaly, week two, obviously the complete opposite.
Starting point is 01:04:57 You're going up against the top tier team of the league in the Philadelphia Eagles. So again, an opportunity to prove who you are with your backup quarterback. It should be interesting. But let's go back out to the phone lines. Bears loose to the Minnesota Vikings, 9 to 3 to 3.3. Phone lines are open 312, 644, 67,
Starting point is 01:05:13 let's go to Joe out in Displains. Joe, welcome to the post game show. What are your thoughts on this one? Yeah, good afternoon. It's an honor and privilege to speak with all three of you. And Olin and Patrick, your performance on the field, of course, always top-notch and a thrill. And you brought the same thing to the microphones as well. It's always a thrill to listen to both you.
Starting point is 01:05:34 So thank you for that. Thank you. My pleasure. But really quickly, a tale of two teams in a matter of seven days. Just wondering your thoughts. And I think I already know the answer. and Ben Johnson, I don't think, would allow this. But did they get too big for their bridges in a week?
Starting point is 01:05:53 You know, 59 points in one week. And now today it's, I know there's rain, but both teams had to play in rain. And, you know, there was college games yesterday that had to play in the rain. You know, so everybody had to play in the rain. And I'm just trying to figure out, did they get too big for their bridges with 59 points last week, causing all the sloppiness and lack of focus today? Thank you again. I'll hang up and listen to what you have to say.
Starting point is 01:06:17 Thanks again. Yeah, I don't think they got too big for the britches. I just, they don't really listen to us. I know as players, we heard the media, but we really didn't listen to it. I just, it was a poor game, and they've got to learn from it. It's disappointing to see it go from 59 points to three points, but this is up to the players executing. You know, you talk about the first series of the game. I was going back to my game notes just kind of summed up the entire game from a fumbled snap,
Starting point is 01:06:45 which is the weather, which is the caller talked about, to Braxton Jones having a holding call on the first series. which is the penalty problem to Caleb scrambling, which was great, impressive. They got down, you know, there was a 50-yard field goal, and on that 50-yard field goal was a high snap. So that kind of sums up the entire game in the first series of the game to go down to the end of the game with a high snap and the black field goal. But just overall, it was a bad performance. It's what it was, and we're going to find something in between, I think. I don't think they're this bad. I don't think they got too big for their britches, as the caller said.
Starting point is 01:07:17 I just think they played a poor game, and I do think if Caleb was healthy, they pull that win out. He scores there. They pull that win out. And it's a win where, hey, we won playing bad. And that's what good teams do. Yeah, we talked about how Garrett Bradbury had that holding on third and one last week, but Caleb overcame it, right? With the throw to Luther Burtain against the Carolina Panthers. But that's not sustainable, right? And at one point today, at the two minute warning, during the game, Fox put something up. It said the Bears had six penalties and five first downs. At the two minute, we're in the first half, guys. So it's third and 23, right? We had a legal formation. We had another holding call, and they backed them all the way up after the Bears were moving the ball systematically down the field and getting themselves threatening the score.
Starting point is 01:08:01 And they just, the lack of discipline there bit them, right, Pat? So eventually you do have to say as a team, like, look, man, bad football teams, this is what they do. Right? They take sacks. They have penalties and they have mental mistakes. That's what bad football teams do in critical situations. They put themselves behind the change. And that's what the Bears' offense did today, whether it was.
Starting point is 01:08:20 you know, getting too big for the bridges, we call it drinking the poison, right? Everyone telling you how great you are. And you got to go in that locker room pissed off if you're a leader and feel like you lost the game and make people feel like they lost the game because things can change really quickly in the NFL. We just mentioned how the Carolina Panthers defense held the Atlanta Falcons to three points. That's how fast things flip in the NFL. Everyone gets filmed on themselves, Pat, you just talked about how Dennis Allen's learning
Starting point is 01:08:47 his team, learning the players he got, what to do with those players. The guys who get a little better every week in the NFL are the teams that end up competing at the end of the year. And that's what Chicago Bears have to remember. You're listening to the Bears Postgame show brought to you by Timber Tech, decking and railing football. And of course, the Roman Automotive Group Bears lose to the Minnesota Vikings 9 to 3. You know, we had conversations in the pregame about complementary football, right, and how one should play off the other. And I feel like this was a game where the defense. defense was putting up their side of the bargain, right? They were holding the Vikings. Obviously,
Starting point is 01:09:25 they didn't get their third field goal till late in the fourth quarter. So holding them without a touchdown to six points up until that point. You know, you're hoping for the offense to come through. And even, you know, Patrick, the special teams, you know, for that matter. And, you know, we saw Xavier Thomas get the ball a couple times. Even he had a misstep, I believe, on his second kick return. But it just seemed as though all three phases couldn't get on the same page in this in order to help the other. Yeah, the great teams get all three together, right? And they had two, the offense, which we were shocked with,
Starting point is 01:09:55 and the special teams overall. And that second kick return, that was more of, there was no blocking up front. Nobody was blocking. You can't blame Xavier and Thomas on that one. It's just they let guys run free. And it was interesting to see what Matt Daniels, the special teams coordinator of Minnesota was going to do
Starting point is 01:10:09 because against Green Bay the week before, he did that, just kicked to the return and said, hey, we're going to cover you. I thought he was going to kick more of those dirty kicks to talk about on the ground to kind of limit Xavier on Thomas. but he believes in his coverage units to go get him. Davian Thomas did okay when he had a chance besides the one that the guys didn't block up. But the other thing that's just really disappointing is the field goal operation.
Starting point is 01:10:29 It needs to get better. The blocking up front needs to get better. Last week, I didn't get to bring it up on the pregame, but even last week, Cole Komet on one of the field goals, when he was the left wing, they'll switch sides, gave up some pressure, and I was a little worried about that. So when that block happened at the end of the game, I thought it was Cole Komet because he was lined up on the left side earlier.
Starting point is 01:10:46 Then they played the replay, and it was Sam Roush, the rookie. but they have some stuff they still have to work on that Coach Hightower has to clean up for those guys as well but a field goal from that distance it should be a no-brainer even if you don't block the guy the snap needs to be lower he should be able to get the kick off and make it so just all the way across the board
Starting point is 01:11:02 sorry not all the way across the board offensively in special teams it wasn't good enough and the special teams from what they did last week and causing that turnover and that banana kick which you loved Olin you know they had a good game with that they played a poor game anytime you can't execute a kick like that you just got to give yourself an F
Starting point is 01:11:17 Yeah, it's true when you watch this football team today. This football team this year trying to figure out what they are and who they are with the new players they have in their locker room and continuing. You know, Ben Johnson said in the all season, we're the number one candidate for regression, right? And what he meant was, but the way they won those seven games in the last seconds, in the last minute, which earned Caleb Williams, nicknamed the Iceman, which he would have earned maybe again today, right, on that boot. If he didn't get hurt and go down there and put the last minute. the ball in the end zone. So a lot of guys are going to have to pick it up. We talked about if he is hurt. But the most thing you are disappointed is just the lack of discipline.
Starting point is 01:11:57 You saw the ability not to line up. And just that drive at the end of the half before the two minute warning where they ended up in, I think it was like fourth and 28, right? Where you're like, man, that's four or five penalties in a row. And that drive right there is just an example of what frustrated you today when you watch the Chicago Bears play. And I'm sure that's with Ben Johnson, when he goes back to talk to the team come Monday morning, It's the first thing he's going to address. And I'm sure he addressed it last year, but sometimes because you score 59 points, because you win a football game, you don't realize how critical it is not to make those
Starting point is 01:12:29 mistakes in the NFL. Well, now they have an example of what they do, that these things do need to change, and we're not going to keep winning football games the way we want them last year late, and if we keep getting penalties like we have this year. Olin, I wonder what Hallis Hall was like this week after that game, because sometimes you come off a game like that. I would say you get laxidaisical, but it just, it's like, little more open, a little more free.
Starting point is 01:12:50 Like, oh, we can just do this. We can do this. And Olin, like, what you're talking about after a loss, like if you won the game in an ugly fashion, you got to come in. I remember many days you walked in like we lost the game. Coaches have to come in. Like, you didn't play well enough,
Starting point is 01:13:04 even though you put up 59 points. And they'd be a little more demanding, not scream a little bit more, but just a little more forceful with their voice in the meeting rooms and on the practice field saying, hey, I almost cuss there. Get this stuff right. You know, even lining up,
Starting point is 01:13:19 and stretch, little things, be out here on time. You can't let the little things slip after games like that. I don't know if that happened, but that's maybe a coaching point to Ben Johnson's learning. That if it did, hey, I need to be a little bit harder on these guys after we put up 59 points. And defensively, right? I mean, we talk about the field goal in the second quarter
Starting point is 01:13:37 to give the Vikings six three lead right there. Then they went off and had four straight punts and then the last position of the game, they get the field goal on the 11 play 67-yard drive, they ate up five minutes of the clock. So it is this hardening because you're looking at moments of the game where you feel like you had it under control, not just, you know, defensively, but there were moments too on offense
Starting point is 01:13:56 where the drives you felt like should have resulted in touchdowns and unfortunately just didn't play out that way. We got one more segment before we get up out of here. Of course, Anthony Heron, going to continue the Bears postgame coverage. That starts at 5 o'clock. But if you want, we'll take your phone calls before we go. 312, 64-647. 767, while I'll discuss our hot and cold members of the Chicago Bears on the other side as well. It's Gabe Ramirez. It's Olin'Cruz.
Starting point is 01:14:22 It's Patrick Manning, hanging out with you on the Timber Tech Decking and Railing Football Postgame show, presented by the Roman Automotive Group. Takes the fake on the boot. Here comes Williams. Here comes Williams tripped up, though. Van Ginkle just barely get a piece of him. And he's in pain.
Starting point is 01:14:39 Yeah, I don't know if Van Ginkle touched him. It looked to me like he might have pulled up late. Oh, that's even worse then. That's what it looked like. I was waiting to see him get up. Oh, no. This stadium is silent. He's done a lot of running today.
Starting point is 01:15:03 He's bought himself a ton of time, escaping pressure. You just tell by the body language, he could tell something was wrong. It feels like Caleb Williams and I had the same scream as a result of what they're calling a hamstring injury. Bears lose to the Minnesota Vikings and the Chicago Bears lose their starting quarterback. Caleb Williams goes down in the final minutes of the fourth quarter. Tyson Baygent comes in. Bears
Starting point is 01:15:29 miss a field goal. Vikings come down, get a field goal of their own. Down six with a couple minutes to play, or a minute to play, Tyson Baygent brings the bears downfield unable to get the touchdown at the very end to give the Vikings the victory. I got to talk briefly about who's hot,
Starting point is 01:15:45 who's cold, sponsored by Plummers 911 plumbing emergency. Call the professionals was available 24-7 at 1-833, Plum 9-1-1. Staying hot, I'm going to say the Bears defense. Dylan Theanman was playing well. You saw sacks from Austin Booker, which I thought was great to see him in the backfield. You even saw Dioa Dangbo as the pocket collapsed. Got himself a sack as well.
Starting point is 01:16:06 Would you guys agree, Patrick, that, you know, the defense is what got hot in this game for the Chicago Bears today? Yeah, I'll say overall they played better, but I'm going to single out one person. That's T.J. Edwards, because that's somebody we talked about in the pregame that didn't have his best game, and he talked about it, and Dennis Allen talked about it. He didn't have his best game against the Carolina Panthers. He had two nice tackles on those third downs that stopped
Starting point is 01:16:26 in just short of the first down marker. And that's hustle, that's execution, that's getting it done, and that's what you want to see from one of your team leaders. And I would put him as the hot player. That's the T.J. Edwards, we've seen play here in the past, and that's who I want to see play for the rest of the year. Yeah, I'm going to go with the guy. I thought I was going to see a lot more today, Pat.
Starting point is 01:16:44 I thought I was going to see a little more of Kyle Monungai, a game like today where it was rainy, where the field was slick, and the way he runs downhill and gets his pads low, he ended up with 4.7 yards of carry. I thought he was hot today, and I thought they should have fed him the ball. A lot more once they recognized
Starting point is 01:17:01 what the conditions were going to be today at the game down there at Soldier Field. Also, on the cold side of the ball, I mean, I think he can point to a couple people, but who stood out the most for me, unfortunately, Sam Roush. I think obviously it's because of his draft position, A lot of people zoomed in on what he is doing or not doing, dropping some passes,
Starting point is 01:17:23 maybe allowing a guy to come in for the block kick. What would you guys say, Olin, I'll start with you, in terms of who was cold for today? I thought Ben Johnson was cold today. I thought Florida's won that battle today. I thought we didn't really adjust. Even the last play of the game still had a tight end blocking Dallas Turner. We had Coast in Loveland one-on-one with Dallas Turner, which is what we went to a lot in the game. And I thought there wasn't enough adjustments to the rain.
Starting point is 01:17:48 and everything that was going on out there. So I thought Ben Johnson was cold today. Yeah, I agree with that one as well. But Gabe, I'm going to go with you. And Sam Rauch is one as well. And I got a preface of saying, I played with his dad in college. So I got to be an honest analyst here.
Starting point is 01:18:03 And I just thought he did not play up to what you're talking about, the draft position where he was drafted and the expectations that I feel that was put on him with Ben, I feel like Ben Johnson drafted him there, that, you know, he had the two drops. One was maybe a potential touchdown. And then to me, seeing it on special, teams getting that field goal blocked with the high snap didn't help but he's got to get a hand on
Starting point is 01:18:23 that guy if he gets a hand on him he's still going to make the kick so yeah i would say sam roush was cold he's got a lot of learning to do he's had a rough rookie start i think the potential's there but yeah it was a rough game for him and it's you know it's tough to see a guy drop two passes like that that are very catchable balls and and give up a block field goal well the good thing is we do know you got to give an honorable mention to swift down there on the go line right if he doesn't Fumble that. But on a one-yard line, the game's got different games. So after being really hot last week, that fumble really hurt the Chicago Bears today. That it did. Gentlemen, I mean, obviously, this is a tough one to swallow, you know, not necessarily the outcome you wanted. It wasn't the game plan that you thought was going to take place, and then you lose Caleb Williams. But, you know, as we get up out of here and get ready to hand it off to Anthony Heron, Olin, I'll start with you.
Starting point is 01:19:11 Final thoughts on this Bears' Week 2 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. My first thought is I hope Caleb's okay. I hope he's healthy. I hope he can come back this year, obviously praying that it's not a serious injury for him. But the Chicago Bears, this is the NFL, man. Things are up and things are down. You've got to go back to work.
Starting point is 01:19:28 You can't believe you're never as good as they say you are. You're never as bad as you say you are. So it's back to work next week. You let this sit with you for a day, and then you've got to find a way to beat the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night in Chicago. So they weren't the team that was out there. The last week was sort of 59 points.
Starting point is 01:19:44 They're not the team. I scored three points this week, so you've got to find a way to be a little more consistent in the NFL. Yeah, my final thought is, who is this team? We were asking that after week one, and then all the way up until when Caleb Williams got hurt, it was a completely different-looking offense, and I still was asking the question, who is this team? So I lead this game with who is this team, and now we had a black marker to that question mark because we don't have Caleb Williams, and how long will he be out for? And then the other question I'll leave it with is, what can we do with Tyson-Bajun?
Starting point is 01:20:13 can we go 500 or something and wait until Caleb gets back? So my biggest thought is, you know, who is this team? I don't know yet. The craziest part is, guys, we still might not know after next week against the Philadelphia Eagles, right? There might be more questions at the end of that one, but I know we'll all be tuned in closely. And these guys, Patrick Randallie and Olin Cruz, will get you covered next week as well. So make sure you guys are hanging out with them. I want to thank everybody who helped out today, Ray Dia.
Starting point is 01:20:43 for helping out earlier. Ryan Porth, for good things situated. Connor O'Donnell, Baby T, back in the studio and everybody else that had hands with this Bears postgame. Olin, Patrick, appreciate you guys for being all right. Let me just do my thing. Thank you to you, man.
Starting point is 01:20:59 You're awesome today. We appreciate you, man. Yeah, I was getting ready to text you, man. You did a great job. Yeah, great job. This was a lot of fun, man. Did awesome. I appreciate it.
Starting point is 01:21:06 All right, guys. All right, coming up next, the man himself, Anthony Herron, continue to talk about this Bears' loss to the Minnesota. The Vikings. There he is right there. Hola!
Starting point is 01:21:17 Anthony. All right, guys. For Olin Cruz, for Patrick Manley, I am Gabe Ramirez, and this has been your Timber Tech Decking and Railing Football Post Game Show presented by the Warman Automotive Group right here on Chicago Sports Radio, 1043, the score.
