Rahimi Harrison Grody.
Of course I follow Mark Gordy on Twitter.
I love you guys, and I'm thrilled to be here.
I've been listening to the score for many, many, many years.
Middays 10 to 2 on 104 3, the score.
Coulson Montgomery smokes one deep center field.
Goodbye.
Coulson Montgomery's second home run in his many games,
number 23 on the year.
And this is a two-run homer, making it a three-run third.
And the White Sox.
are up six to three.
That is courtesy of Peacock because, well, every game yesterday was.
This is Rahimi Harrison Brody on 104-3, the score.
And Colson Montgomery now has to his name, 23 home runs.
That is good tied for seventh in Major League Baseball.
But he's not an all-star, Miguel Vargas is.
And that's kind of the point on Rahimi Harrison Grotie on 104-3, the score.
Colson Montgomery can hit a home run or two.
and Marshall, you were discussing this with us in our pre-show meeting backstage.
You made an excellent point.
He is an ideal home run derby candidate.
You know, people always bring up, oh, don't do the derby because it'll mess up your swing.
Have you seen Colson Montgomery swing?
I was the one who said it, but that's the thing.
No, no, I'm saying every, it's not just a you thing.
I mean, people have been saying this for years now about how being in the home run derby
will mess up your swing and look at the second half numbers.
Todd Frazier is the key example here.
Who's the Phillies guy?
Kyle Schwab?
No, no, no.
Bryce Harper?
No, no, no.
I am just awful today.
Ryan Howard won a homerender.
I was there.
It was in Pittsburgh.
No, it was before.
He was there.
Before all that.
And then he sucked the second half of the season after putting on just an absolute.
I'll look it up here in a second.
Jim, Tommy?
No, not Tommy.
How dare you?
What do you mean?
How dare?
I'm just naming people I know who hit home runs for the Philadelphia Phillies.
Yeah, no, that would have been a good guess.
Swarber, Howard, and,
Tommy of the first.
Bobby Abrayu.
I think it was Bobby Abraeu.
Yep.
Who was Bobby Abrae?
He had 41 home runs in the first half of 2005, but only six afterwards.
And he, yeah, he dominated the home run derby.
I think he had set up to that point of record based on whatever rule they were using
that year in the home run derby.
That is terrifying.
Yeah.
41 home runs in the first half of 05 and then only six.
Yeah.
So that's the example.
But if you look at Bobby Abraeu's approach to the plate and Colson Montgomery's approach
of the plate.
Yeah.
Those are two very different approaches.
I agree with you.
I agree with you.
No, that's it.
I think you're on to something.
So he's the ideal contestant in a year in which the White Sox have jumped and burst back out onto the scene to represent them at the All-Star game festivities when they should have more than one player, but they only have one player playing in the game in Miguel Vargas.
And I would argue that if he's healthy, because he's supposed to be maybe coming back this weekend, Munitaka Murakami, another guy.
he's not going to mess up his swing
going to the home run derby.
No. That's what he does.
No, that's a bridge too far.
No.
First of all, he has a very white socks triggering injury for me, which is a hamstring.
Secondly, the guy does try to run to first base.
I know you don't have to worry about that in the home run derby,
but I'm just thinking this through.
He's got a five-game rehab assignment.
I've actually come to the realization,
given how many games that they've won without him.
They could afford, and Kyle Teal, you know,
hitting home runs.
Are you about to say?
They could afford to sit him through the All-Star break.
You don't want him to come back this weekend?
They could afford to sit him.
I'm with Layla.
I cannot have the hamstring be an issue for another White Sox player.
I'm with you.
I cannot have it be reoccurring.
I will not.
Wait, so I just will make sure I have both of you on the record here.
You would rather him just sit out through the All-Star break just because the White Sox have somehow,
some way, managed to be two games above 500 in his absence and are currently today,
maybe not the next day or the next day in first place in the American.
I don't think it's flukish.
Do you think it's flukish?
How do you not have some sort of trauma over White Sox hamstring injuries by hitters?
When you're cleared, you're cleared.
No, that's the point.
Plus, they have been mashing and hitting bombs left and right without him.
More bombs.
Well, no, it will be more bombs, but let's make sure you're okay.
You're not, sounds crazy.
You're not desperate for him at the moment, but eventually you probably will be.
Eventually, I shouldn't say.
Montgomery might go into a home run slump, but he may not either.
Miguel Vargas at some point in time may go into a home run slump,
even though he had a 10-pitch three-run homer in the loss on Friday.
Mark Grody, do you know who leads the major leagues and home runs this season team-wise?
I guess it's probably the White Sox.
No, it's the Yankees.
They have a three home-run lead over the White Sox.
128 to 125.
The bombers, they call them.
Do you understand when...
From the Bronx or something?
Yeah, the Bronx.
It comes back.
Bronx cheer.
It won't be the Bronx Bombers.
The Bronx runners up is what it will be.
Right.
So make sure that you guys sat here.
I do got to pay that dollar probably.
Yeah, you all sat here and told me the White Sox wouldn't hit more home runs than the Cubs.
Because it's preposterous and somehow yet indicative of what we've seen this season.
Yeah, we'll get to that later.
But the point is, if there's one truth I know, it is that a White Sox hitter's hamstring should be taken with care.
I cannot have this.
I agree with that.
But I'm saying once you're clear, you're clear.
If you have the chance to err on the side of caution, like just make sure.
I think it was Joe Madden who always said, all right, once the guy is ready to come back,
then you give him one or two more days off, just to make sure.
He's right about that.
Yeah.
Just to make sure that there's no funny stuff going on.
Maybe the player, sometimes player wants to get back on the field.
They're like, oh, I feel fine.
The pain is at a zero.
Well, just in case you're being a little bit fibbing, not even lying.
I'll call it a fib.
We're going to give you a couple more days off.
You just can't gauge it properly yourself.
Maybe.
Right.
What if I told you, counter what both you're saying?
What if I told you that one of our coworkers, one of our coworkers, was on Mully and Hall this morning.
And he was suggesting that Mune not only be, I don't know, in the home run derby, but that he could actually play in the game.
I think Murakami should be in.
If he's healthy and playing this weekend, and I think we're going to discuss that before you guys let me go in a few minutes.
he's on his rehab way and he should be ready by the weekend if he has no backup situation
why not Marikami there and why not Montgomery?
Why not Montgomery, Colson Montgomery in the home run derby, right?
Why shouldn't he be there?
I think both of them have the credentials to be all-stars.
I think they were important parts of their team ascending into the team that they are in their
the playoff looking team at this point.
So I'd say both of them should be there.
And both of them, not only from the selfish point of view of being a Chicago reporter,
but the idea of adding a lot of positive glitz to the All-Star game with Murkami,
the Japanese player and the 20 home runs he hit in a very brief time.
And Montgomery now with 23 home runs and one of the young great sluggers in the American
league right now, that would be
terrific for an all-star.
Yeah, I mean, we're discussing this.
And I get why you guys are saying it,
but out of injury principle for
Moone, no. So no, no to the...
I'm okay with Colson Montgomery in
the home run derby. No, but I'm saying
Mune, he's talking about not Mune being the home run
derby. He's saying Mune as an all-star
replacement. And you're both saying no
to that. Well, they're also an inordinate
amount of all-stars
who did not play last year because of either
injury or risk of it or rest.
And I think that's why this is a real possibility that Mune could be called upon.
But that's the point, is that he should rest and do it.
I'm a little surprised with Bruce.
And no way, Bruce.
We'll let you go in like three minutes.
I was a little.
Yeah, I love her.
He's like, we're going to talk about this.
It's like, well, yeah.
It's just a little surprise of my guy, Bruce, because when we did inside the clubhouse
and we had Crane Kenny on, he was on the air saying, mad at the WBC because of the injuries
that ensued and teams are hurt.
so he's kind of against the exhibition concept.
That's a whole tournament.
I know, but it's a whole tournament
before you've even started the season.
This is simply one game, one appearance go.
And maybe only an inning or two.
Maybe just a pinch hit it bat.
Maybe you don't get in the game.
No, no.
I'd like to see him get his name announced.
I go back to what Carlos Pena said earlier on this program,
you can use the Rewind feature in the office app.
When he said, once you have All-Star by your name,
that's something much like Olympian,
they don't ever take away from you.
He's right.
Name him to the all-star.
I'm just saying you don't have to play.
But I also would like active White Sox to be part of Moone's title for the rest of the season.
And I take hamstrue injuries on this team very seriously.
You never heard of Swaggy McNo legs?
Come on, man.
I've seen a lot of guys get shot in the back of their leg while running to first base.
Yes, as a White Sox man.
I mean, it's not good.
Okay, so there's also this from Colson Montgomery.
He appropriately should enter.
entertain the idea. And Andrew
Not of Peacock brought it up.
Here's a question. I didn't tell you I was going to ask you, but I'm a big
fan from watching from afar.
There's a home run derby coming up in Philadelphia.
If they asked, would you want to be a part of it?
I think so, yeah. I think so, yeah.
I think about it. America, are you listening?
Colson Montgomery. Get him there.
There you go, yep.
Yes, right field at CBP.
If there's one thing I know that Colson Montgomery could do,
it's hit one of those home runs like he did against the Orioles that made a
everybody go, oh,
still one of the funniest things
I heard all season.
That was pretty funny.
That home run is still landing.
The Cubs are going to get to Baltimore,
and then Colson Montgomery's home run
will have landed.
It's amazing.
I think it would be really good for him.
He would be perfect in terms of
upping the profile, and I know people
are getting to know Colson Montgomery,
but to do the home run derby,
that could put him on a different level and maybe
a trajectory for the All-Star game next year.
I love to have two white things.
Sox in the All-Star home run derby.
What about your boy, PCA?
PCA says he's going to do it.
He's just not going to do it this year.
The quote from Jesse Rogers is, this.
He'll do it, quote, someday, end quote.
But the time isn't right for him just yet.
Is he doing LeBron talking about being in the dunk contest?
Feels very LeBron dunk contest.
Do you remember when LeBron was in the dunk contest?
No. No. Because he said he would do it. He said he'd do it the next year when he said it though, right? And then he just never did it. Which I get, honestly, because he should do it now. If he wants to adoration of all these fans. Forty one year old LeBron now. See, actually that does make sense because he wouldn't necessarily be expected to win. Then he'd have all the pressure. Like if LeBron doesn't win the dunk contest, that just hurts him. That hurts his whole image, right? I understand. It's a very blanking him, kid.
type of attitude to do it in your last year at 41.
That would be fun.
I do too.
I do too.
That actually would, I think people would really look forward to it.
Not just the usual hype.
The thing about LeBron is.
It would be like how he saved All-Star Weekend.
Has he done the three-point contest at least?
Or the skills competition?
I don't believe so.
He is the skills competition.
Well, yeah, he's LeBron James.
The thing about LeBron James is anything he does now,
he has a built-in audience of anyone over the age of 40.
He just does.
It me.
Much like our guy Uncle Phil did, Philip Rivers.
Everybody over the age of whatever was rooting for him.
Don't forget Joe Flacco.
Yes, Joe Flacco.
Same category.
Vince Carter.
Oh, Vince.
Yeah, it hurts when he comes down now from a dunk.
His knees hurt.
I don't want to hear this.
Vince Carter is ageless.
Okay.
I still am laughing at the Colson Montgomery.
Ooh.
I watched Michael Beasley play some three on three.
You're watching the Big Three?
I devoured a couple just because I just wanted to see.
It's like, like, what does this all look like?
You know what that is?
That's the gateway drug to Summer League.
That is the watch party we should be doing also is the Big Three.
Let's get together, guys.
This is not our worst idea.
Ice Cube's son was doing the sidelines.
Here's what we do.
We pretend like it's the Big Three, and then we sneakily put on the other guys.
That just means Grotty would walk out or fall asleep because he doesn't understand what's going on.
You guys are going to drug me to watch the movie.
Who do we need to tell you to watch this movie?
I don't know.
I felt like if you weren't, if Ranji wasn't going to do the trick?
No, Rangie did.
He told you you should have it memorized.
Oh yeah.
Well, he said I should know all the lines from the movie.
So it'll have, guys, I promise you it's going to happen.
Someday, PCA, LeBron.
One of these decades.
I swear to God, I am going to watch.
I am getting the most evil I have ever gotten for Marshall Harris.
Do you know that I thought someday,
for our next topic was going to be later than now.
Billy Donovan got a job.
Yeah.
Next.
