Starting point is 00:00:00 You know, Governor, we got baseball tomorrow. Munitaka Murakami is going to be in the lineup on Friday. That's what Will Vennible said for the socks. Well, I'm glad to hear it. We want lots of moonshot. That was the only thing that we accomplished today. We found a home run call for Mutataka Murakami. I would like again to say thank you to Ray Diaz, Tyler Buehterbaugh,
Starting point is 00:00:27 Brandon Fryer for helping us out as well. Carter O'Donnell, Jacob Stux, Max Curtis, Adam Hogue for coming on, Governor Pac-Quinn for coming on, Alan Robinson. What are you guys giggling about over there? If you're looking on Twitch or YouTube, an interloper is swung by the table out here in Mesa, and it is demanding the attention. Like, all of us are interested in talking, but John Boog Shambi is demanding to be recognized. Hello. I also want to thank Luis Medina from Bleacher Nation for coming on. He had a really good article regarding Jeff King.
Starting point is 00:01:05 Yeah, Matt, you've changed. You somehow resemble Zhang Boog Shami, our own Boogsman. Gotten more handsome. Hi, Boob. Yes. Hi, you guys. How are you? It's good to see you.
Starting point is 00:01:16 What's the weather? Let's get right to it. What's the weather right now? It's nice. It's warm and in the sun. It's perfect. And yeah, it's delightful. Oh, it's been really nice at Chicago.
Starting point is 00:01:27 Yeah, we've had a good run over the last couple days. It's a good run. And it's coming to an end, but that's all right. Baseball on the score will be back, and that's a good thing. What's the first impressions of you being at camp? I watched some live BP. I enjoyed watching guys challenge. I like them tapping and challenging. And I would say my early scouting report, am I, is he here?
Starting point is 00:01:54 I think Tommy Hottaby was actively trying to cheat for the pitchers. what I would say. Really? Yeah, because I feel like every single challenge, the batter's won. So that's what I would say. Wow. That is something to note. I don't know that that actually ever happens.
Starting point is 00:02:10 No, I don't think. But, hey, there's Craig Counsel. It's Craig Counsel. It's unbelievable. Look, Booke just came over and he sat down to say hello. And so I threw a headset on his head, but we can get back to doing what we do. I'm going to leave now. I see that guy.
Starting point is 00:02:25 Bye, Boo. Bye, Booke. Wait, we didn't even ask him what kicks he had on. You know, Boo's got an elite shoe collection. They're really nice. Can I show them, John? Tell people what they are. Shoe Cam.
Starting point is 00:02:36 What are you wearing? Jordan Low one. Just some blue and black. There it is. Blue on black. A classic combination. See, buddy. It's like a midnight blue, right?
Starting point is 00:02:45 No socks because it's Arizona and the sun is out. Yeah, but it's actually not that warm there. It's fine, but it's not what it was a couple weeks ago. And he's not at all. He looks like he's in the shade. So you're like you're going to get cold if you stay there. It was like 12 degrees in our studio today. The heater stopped working.
Starting point is 00:03:04 Again? I am in the shade. I'm sorry that it's so cold in the studio. It's a little cold here, but whatever. I have never talked more bears at Cubs camp with Cubs people than today, man. What are they saying, Speaks? What are they saying? Every conversation has led back to, hey, are they really doing that?
Starting point is 00:03:24 Is that really happening? Are they really going there? and I'm like, I was asking you about the infield defense, sir, Justin Steele. I was asking you about that. One player said, yeah, what's going on with that? I said, I think it might just be a game. And the players said, I think they're bad at those games, aren't they? I was like, that's pretty funny.
Starting point is 00:03:44 You, sir. Easy for you guys. Easy for you at your self-financed ballpark up the street. Oh, that is so true, Leila. A part of this thing that people who continue to forget is that there are going to be a lot of people going, wait, what? You gave money to who? Why? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:06 The Cubs, for the record, the Cubs did spend on their real estate. They did not involve you all in any of this mess. We can talk what we want about the roster and all of that. They're two separate situations, but they are the example. And now they're spending a lot of money on the team. Look at that. but yeah they are they can and they
Starting point is 00:04:27 I think they will I honestly well unless there's a salary cap then they won't and then of course there's going to be a work stoppage for a little while we're not doing that today but there's going to be a work stoppage Speegis is outside he's working right now we're cherishing this
Starting point is 00:04:39 Speaks how are you enjoying your final spring training before the work stoppage oh must everything must everything have that in subtext damn you Marshall I've barely thought about that today
Starting point is 00:04:52 I mean, it's like the thrill of my year, frankly, every year to come out here and get a chance to be embedded for three days. You know what I mean? Like you feel so connected to it and so close to it. And every guy you're talking to you're like, all right, this is setting up for the way that we will talk about these guys all year long. Like, you know, Ben Brown, like talking to him about, hey, it's third pitch time again. Isn't it Ben Brown? He's like, I know. But it feels different this year.
Starting point is 00:05:18 Like those kind of conversations, you know? just everything. It feels great to be out here. But I tell you, there was a moment this morning where I was like, are we doing four hours of Bears talk today? And we're doing a lot of Bears talk, but we'll also have Craig Counsel come by here.
Starting point is 00:05:34 We'll have our friend Nico Horner come by here. I taped a bunch of other stuff that'll run at some point, but it's like... Not today. Well, according to you speaks, they're just going to be wanting to talk about the Bears. Well, wait a second. It's part of it. Do you guys don't have a show tomorrow because there's a game? We do have a
Starting point is 00:05:50 after the game. Okay. Yes. Okay. Yes. I mean, that's the thing. We're on right after Cubs Sox on 104-3, the score. You'll get to hear the Cubs in all their audio glory tomorrow, and then we've got
Starting point is 00:06:03 post game. And maybe hear a moonshot. Ah. I mean, that was amazing. Speaks up on that yet. Can we explain to him? Yeah, explain to him. Speaks, I don't know if you know, but we had former Illinois governor Pat Quinn on
Starting point is 00:06:15 today, and he talked a little white socks, and he said, hoping to see some moonshot. when a certain Japanese ballplayer was brought up. So that's the new play onwards. That's the new home run call as demonstrated by former governor Pat Quinn. Well, we'll see if John Schiffen follows suit, won't we? Because I'm sure he's got a lot. You guys are going to kick it tomorrow? Speaks?
Starting point is 00:06:39 I don't know. Are they broadcasting the game? I don't know. That's what I'm asking. Because that seems to be less and less that games are being broadcast. It's time for my favorite Internet. search. I don't know if John and or White Sox schedule.
Starting point is 00:06:53 I had dinner plans or anything. So I do not have plans at this time. Frankly, I didn't think they'd be possible in your three of the deal. I didn't think that would even be an option. But here we are. So look, I know that Len Casper, our friend Len Casper, is on the way out. He and Boog sat next to each other on the plane all the way here. It does not appear to be televised.
Starting point is 00:07:15 On CHS. Their next game on Saturday against the athletics will be on. on Chicago Sports. Let me guess that's a home game. That's a Camelback Ranch. It appears that way, yes. That's why. That makes sense.
Starting point is 00:07:28 You know how that goes. We just had the conversation about sending people down to cover games and everybody's cutting back and guess what? Your games might only be on TV if you are the home team. There's also a split squad game. I don't like the networks doing that though. Yeah. Like the networks whose whole thing is, hey, we're the network where you can see all the games.
Starting point is 00:07:46 When they're on. Right. have all the games. This is all I'm asking. They are airing the split squad game against the brewers, according to this, it would appear as well. Yeah, because that one is a Camelback Ranch. It's the Camelback Ranch split side of that matchup.
Starting point is 00:08:03 But no, you. Back to you, Marshall. Back in the day, they just be like, we'll take the visitor feed. We don't care. And guess what? Fans don't care either. Just want to see some green grass and some sunshine,
Starting point is 00:08:14 hear the crack of the bat, all of that stuff. How many times have we aired Jumbo, Tron highlights as a collective, because I know when I'm searching for video, I stop at nothing. That's right. People, look, baseball fans don't care. We will scour all the social media. Is it on Instagram? Is it on Twitter?
Starting point is 00:08:31 It's on threads. Where is it? Is there a video of the game that happened today that nobody wanted to put on television? Spiegel is now sending us like arrival shots and like the golf cart that just drove by? This is the video that would hit. Yeah. I'm just trying to give you the blue sky and the green grass and some of the green trees. Whoever this is walking by, you never know who's got to swing by here.
Starting point is 00:08:52 I love it. The ambiance. You're showing us ambiance. Do you have score signage where you are? Like, is it just you in a chair and a comrades? It is so funny. You ask that. I have this mic flag.
Starting point is 00:09:04 This is the entirety of my score signage, Marshall. It's not even on his mic. It's not even like a mic. It's just there. It's just out front to be like, this is to our represent. It's on a table like he's at a convention and like, oh, we're giving away these mic flags. That's what it looks like right now. Hey, but wait, at least you're in her tent, aren't you?
Starting point is 00:09:22 It looks like you got a shade. Oh, man, they hooked it up. They gave me a tent. They gave me an ethernet cable and a power strip. Actually, they didn't give me a power strip. I brought my own. They gave me an extension cord. That's all I need. I mean, the Ethernet cable is huge. He's not. This is my signage. This is
Starting point is 00:09:38 the only signage I got. I can say now with assurance that engineers and producers are overrated. I set up this entire thing. I brought this stuff my own self. Okay. on the airplane. I wouldn't say that too loud because if something goes wrong, you're definitely going to need one of those people to help you.
Starting point is 00:09:53 I wouldn't say it so loud because the people that you were talking about control whether or not people hear you on the radio. Matt, you're a musician. You know that the second you start criticizing a sound person, what happens? You go to sing and your mic isn't open. But Lately, this reminds me of so many gigs like in the 90s and the early aughts
Starting point is 00:10:13 when I would bring my own sound system and I'd have to set it up and then go sing and then tear it down, like millions of musicians out there. You know, it's like, I know how to do it. We all know how to do it if we need to. Yeah, if we have to do it, we can do it. It's always preferred that a professional do it. Like, tomorrow you'll have Walt and Walt gets stuff done.
Starting point is 00:10:32 I could not fix the heater today, guys. I'm sorry. I needed a guy for that. It's pretty pleasant here now. I had to call somebody else. I couldn't do it myself. You're not four seasons? Like, you're Laila Rheemi. Like, you're not out here like, hey, I fix AC and heating units.
Starting point is 00:10:47 that's not your thing. But that's my point. The engineers are not overrated. Facts. The heater broken here speaks, and it was colder in here than outside. It's fine now. So thanks for that. Yeah, we got, we got to, Lila had several strong conversations with people who can make that change. I love when she does that.
Starting point is 00:11:03 Because Marshall and I're sitting there and it's a distraction. Your job isn't done as well. It's so warm. I didn't wear a coat jacket and just this hoodie today, but I need this hoodie and more stuff in this studio. I mean, what weather report were you looking? looking at it's 48 degrees marshal i went for a run a three-mileer after my workout this morning yesterday
Starting point is 00:11:23 that made sense today it doesn't make as much sense it felt great out there this morning it's colder it's colder it felt great out there i mean we're not living the life that speaks he's got going on what's the temperature there speaks uh i don't know 60 something but man we got we got we got a roll because craig counsel's going to come by in here a little bit but we got to talk about the bears man we got we got to set up what we're doing on the show because laurence we got something very exciting at 5 o'clock, don't we?
