Starting point is 00:00:01 Some people like Chris Emma. We went off the rails yesterday, and it was a lot of fun. So it was today's show thanks to our guests, Mike Florio, Jeff Buckholz, Bill Zimmerman and Chris Emma. Thanks to Ray Diaz, Tyler Buterbaugh, and Brandon Friar for helping us out. Sean Sears, I saw here as well, so he gets a thank you. Chris Anahill's here, so he gets a thank you. Thanks to Cody Westerlin, Connor O'Donnell, Jacob Stutz, and Max Curtis. and thanks to Lawrence Holmes
Starting point is 00:00:33 and Matt Spiegel for being here and thanks to Marshall Harris for just putting up with me and making fart noises Hey man, there was no smell so I was good Yes, well that's what happens I made fart noises with my mouth
Starting point is 00:00:47 I was told there were Yeah I was told that sports radio is fart jokes I was told it was penis jokes But I mean fart jokes also work Wow Yeah okay I feel like that took another step
Starting point is 00:01:00 This is an elevation Did it really, though? Yeah, I think so. I don't know. I don't know. I really picked up. I mean, just telling you what I was told. Just that word.
Starting point is 00:01:08 Back when I was it got into the business, back in my day. Sex Panther. 60% of the time it works every time. It's a pungent. It's a pungent scent. Layla, I like that we were thanked. Smells like Bigfoot. I can't say that.
Starting point is 00:01:23 I like that you thanked us and we didn't even do anything yet. Well, you're here. You're here. We're thanking for your presence. Showing up is half the battle. I got to be nice. The I Joe. Yo Joe.
Starting point is 00:01:33 See? I guess so. I mean, whatever it takes to please you guys. We're here. We're ready to chat. Talk about everything. Everything? You sure about that?
Starting point is 00:01:42 Yeah, man. You sure about that? Everything. Hey, did you see Luca and LeBron have absolutely no chemistry last night, the big moment? Do you strike that as what that is or just an awkward moment? Like one awkward moment. Luca should have taken the shot. Yeah, why didn't he take the shot?
Starting point is 00:01:57 Yeah. He had the look and then the defense. vendors converge. It's like, oh, I should probably pass it. LeBron wants no part of playing with Luca. He wants no part of it. I thought he wanted Luca to be a Mac, to be a Laker. And then he got a taste of it if he did want it.
Starting point is 00:02:12 Are you saying? Leading the league in scoring? Yeah. Is it sure? Okay. Is that team winning anything? Well, hold on. It could. Like, things happen, but listen. Speak, speak, speaks. Do you think LeBron would rather be like A1, day one on a team that just goes
Starting point is 00:02:28 to the play in or be on a team that actually goes to the playoffs and has a chance to do something. I mean, I'm not saying he's going to try and change anything like right now or anything. Like, I mean, they are what they are and I'll try to make the most of it. But like, Lucas just, he's, you know how I feel, man. It's not a winning kind of kind of player. It's just not a winning kind of superstar. Oh, you don't think Luke was a winner. They went to an NBA finals. Kyrie led them to the finals. Daniel Gafford was the five. That's a fair take, actually. I'm going to back up and say
Starting point is 00:02:58 that's a fair take. Kyrie is that dude. I've seen him in many, many situations. You know he is. Say what you want about his personality, but Kyrie is that dude. Steph Curry knows too. Yeah. Looka just doesn't give a damn, man.
Starting point is 00:03:11 You know. Luca cold. Okay. He's cold, but he's also going to be cold in these streets when the playoffs advance. I will bet. He will never make another finals. What? I can't do that.
Starting point is 00:03:22 Come on. That I can't do. Marshall, let's bet. So what do we got a decade? I'll catch up with you in a decade. I think this is less about Luca. This is less about Luca, and this is more about your belief in both the Oklahoma City Thunder and Wimby at large. Absolutely not.
Starting point is 00:03:37 Luka might end up being in the East. He's 26. I know. He's never going to make another finals. I'll make that wager with you. That man does not care enough to actually be a part of a team that gets there. Ready? $100.00.
Starting point is 00:03:51 We are shaking hands on this. Right it's down. Dump him. Danty, Dr. NBA, Chris Tanaill is putting his hands on his hands on his side. head. A few months later. The Lakers are the NBA finals. The amazing part of the bet is, I will pay you off.
Starting point is 00:04:06 I've got a long time to see it play out. Spreeks might not have as long. I can't wait like 10 years. We just shook on it. I need three to one odds. Not I'm thinking about it. Too late. Too late.
Starting point is 00:04:16 Damn it. I blew it. Dr. NBA wants to know if there will be adjustment for inflation on this bet. That's a fair point. I need to talk to Dr. Inflation about that. Tyler Beacon. Dr. NBA. Marshall's got this show.
Starting point is 00:04:29 Joe Hay Otani bet. He has deferred money until 2036. That is one way to look at it, Lawrence. That's one way to look at it. I am. NBA has been fun, except for the, you know, the Bulls. I'm fine with the Bulls too right now, because just lose it out. Not just the Bulls.
Starting point is 00:04:46 I'm sorry. There's a good third of the league who is not fun. Just take your elves and just a steady time. They took one last night. They're doing it. They're doing it. They're doing it. They're doing it.
Starting point is 00:04:58 That pivot to nowhere is working out. It really is. It's late. It's very late. Layla looks in the mirror. My point is this fan base is telling you, like, when I post my little videos about the bulls, everybody's like, yeah, take away. Get all the else. If you had just done this, you could have literally done this last off season said, all right, modest, the ship is yours.
Starting point is 00:05:20 Go have fun with your, whoever G-leaguers, Lockland Oldbrick, and Emmanuel Miller. They should have done that. If they had done that, they'd be in much better shape. First of all, they probably have a first round pick, an extra first round pick, besides the lottery protected Portland Trailblazers pick. If they had done that, if they had made the trade with New Orleans, they could be sitting pretty. Problem is, even if they had done all the things I just said,
Starting point is 00:05:43 I still don't know that the right person's in charge to lead them into the future. That's the problem. Oh, there's a lot of problems. That's the main problem. No, that's the biggest problem. Regardless of everything I just said, that's the biggest problem. I just simulated the lottery on tagathon.com. What we got?
Starting point is 00:05:58 Bulls have the 10th pick in the NBA draft. Having lost 10 games in a row right now. What do you guys think about the 7th pick? Here's the crazy part. Wendell Carter Jr. Put Dallas ahead last night with the follow-up. It is a deep draft, though. Or put Orlando ahead.
Starting point is 00:06:16 10 isn't terrible this year, strangely enough. It's a really good freshman class all the way down. It's not just the three guys. that you're thinking of. It's an interesting freshman class. Absolutely. I know I've been watching and following along and getting excited about it. Boog Shambi going to be on the show today.
Starting point is 00:06:32 That man doing big 12 games of consequence, seemingly every freaking weekend. Well, that's the beauty of the new era of college and IL transfer portal, everything. There just seems to be more of a desperation in the air for every college coach around the country this time of year. There's a lot of teams that are seven and seven and seven in the conference, or seven and eight and eight and six. Like there's a lot of middle ground and you I need to make a tournament. My school's going to fire me. So as deep as the draft is, I still wonder what happens to the bull sometimes, like what they're falling in love within the scouting process.
Starting point is 00:07:07 That's the problem. Like the pre-draft workout and things like that. What are they seeing? Does your name end in itch? Right. Layla, you're so good at doing flow charts. Like, right? I won't say the flow chart that you usually use.
Starting point is 00:07:22 But here's the flow chart. for you for the Bulls. Are they a foreign player? Yes, the Bulls will draft them. Patrick Williams. Patrick Williams was not. I mean, that's their highest draft pick. Are they a foreign player? Do they have really long arms?
Starting point is 00:07:38 And are they incredibly young to extend our time in office? Right. Are they too young to put on the actual roster? Yes, we will draft them. Are they a little light in the ass? Yes, they will draft them. I know nothing about that. It is a kick the can down the
Starting point is 00:07:54 road mentality, it seems like. My whole thing was get enough good players that you can trade players when players become available. But right now, they're a mess. They are a mess. Jayden Ivy wants me to tell you, Rob Dillingham looking very, I don't even know how to describe his play.
Starting point is 00:08:10 Jay and Ivy feels like I'm not going to play basketball anymore. You wanted to learn more about Rob Dillingham, and we are learning more about Rob Dillingham. I've learned not maybe enough, but enough. The Jayton Ivy soundbites from last week were bleak. very bleak
Starting point is 00:08:26 I mean I guess you could flip it on its head and go they're very hopeful if you're not talking about actual basketball if you're talking about like finding yourself and grace in the Lord very hopeful but if you're talking about hey are you going to play basketball not very hopeful yeah I was talking about
Starting point is 00:08:45 like his physical game in the NBA but we knew this though that's why I wasn't getting excited about J.N. I, because if you listen to anyone in Detroit, they were like, yeah, not the same guy. It had a bit of a lottery ticket feel, but this ain't the Cubs bullpen trying to resurrect somebody's
Starting point is 00:09:03 career. You know what I'm saying? Can I give you a guy that I really enjoy in college basketball? I'll probably be available at 10. Go ahead. Braden Burries of Arizona, might be the third best player on that team, sometimes the second. Some nights he's the first. I already saw Dailantiria.
Starting point is 00:09:20 I don't need to see that again. Oh, no, he's way better than that, dude. Is the six. It's a six four guard with handle who can shoot and yes he can defend and do all that but he can also drive and he just played six four oh thank you i know yeah played a brutal stretch of games through bronchitis fought through bronchitis to play a crucial role for arizona they're back on the brink of the big twos not darren peterson is what you're saying uh no he's not so he overcame adversity yeah that's a check he he busts his ass and he can do a lot of different things on the on the on the court, but he can really, really
Starting point is 00:09:53 shoot and drive and finish. Darren Peterson, cold too. Yeah, he is, for sure. But he's like top one, two, or three, like you said, I'm looking past the top three. For a guy, like, who is the SGA who's going to be picked 11 in this draft? He's in bust out. Darren Pearson's also
Starting point is 00:10:09 cold because he didn't get on the bike when he was on the bench when he should have been on the court. That's why he's cold. I always wonder with guys like that that know that they're going to the league Are they slow playing it? Like, do they, are they like, hey, I'm going to do my thing and get myself. Do you remember Anthony Edwards at Georgia?
Starting point is 00:10:28 I do. Same vibes. I do. I would tell you that you should probably draft that guy if you can't. I don't think he'll be there at seven or ten. No, no, he won't. But I know that there are people all like, well, I don't know. I don't know about this guy's, what do they call it in Texas?
Starting point is 00:10:44 Onto? I don't know about his aunt to. but that's what I'm saying I know about this game I'm watching these college games and I'm looking for guys with aunt two guys who can shoot and finish
Starting point is 00:10:56 and have aunt two how you feel about Boozer I like him a lot did I hear but he's gone he's gone like if you gotta be a tankathon winner essentially to end up with Boozer Peterson or DeBonza
Starting point is 00:11:10 I think those are your top three most likely don't forget the coin flip that decided whether or not the Bulls were going to get Cooper flag. Yeah. He would have been good. He would have been good to get.
Starting point is 00:11:22 Did I hear you issue an old in front of somebody's name in one of the, like I listened to you guys' show. I want to say it was on Friday when you guys did an old so-and-so? Somewhere in there speaks, you've gotten on board with the midday show like when we say old Joe Tooney
Starting point is 00:11:38 or old grade Jared. Yeah, I don't know. Yeah, I'm definitely on board. Old Republic is what started it for me. Republic is what started it. Oh, yeah. So, yeah, I mean, you know, there's a lot of old guys out there. Old Republic.
Starting point is 00:11:52 Now, old, who's the linebacker? The 37-year-old linebacker from New Orleans? Oh, DeMario Davis? Oh, now, DeMario Davis. I mean, he's... Would have been thinking about coming out here. He is 37, but so is old Trent Williams. We are going to have a conversation about Trent Williams
Starting point is 00:12:09 later on in the show. I don't think it is the same padash as Max Crosby. Why was that your sound? a fake. Because he's a billion dollars, that's why. I get hinky about giving away show content during transition. Okay, my man. That's what it is. What would you like to talk about instead? Left-handed
Starting point is 00:12:25 tennis? Tyler Austin is out for months for the Cubs. The acquisition from Japan, who they brought in to be the right-handed. I remember. Yeah. He had a knee's surgery and now he's out for months. What in the name of Michael Soroka is going on here? Exactly. What are we doing? They didn't pay him much,
Starting point is 00:12:43 but still, months is a lot. He's obsessed with him. Oh, apparently so. Poor Ozzy. Poor Ozzy. Do you guys hear the numbers on Ozzie Tripillo on the Patelotendin injury? Oh, the chances of coming back? Yeah, from 2009 to 2023.
Starting point is 00:12:58 It's a pillow. All the NFL players who had a rupture Patelotendant, 46% of them never came back. Yeah, we know that number. I didn't know it was that bleak. I remember reading about it. I was like, oh, those aren't good odds. But then I was like, ah. 46% never came back.
Starting point is 00:13:14 80% didn't come back within two years. You know, so 80%. Well, that's why we know they need a left tag. That's been a nine. Same for Rishon Slater. And they probably needed one regardless. Which says a lot about last year. Well, I don't know because as high as he was picked, which was what, in the 50s for
Starting point is 00:13:33 Tripitlo? As high as he was picked, I think every other offensive lineman before him that was drafted that year started earlier. So, like prior in the season to him. starting. So I don't know. I think that was the intention and that was the effort that was made. But even then he was going to have a position change.
Starting point is 00:13:52 So I don't really know. Like I said, the left tackle store doesn't exist. It's a vineyard. It's a vineyard where they grow. It's where they grow like grapes on trees. taught us about that. He did. That is actually a better euphemism. That's a lot of time. Jerry Angelo gave it to
Starting point is 00:14:08 but actually he said there is no vineyard. There is no tackle vineyards. It's in your heart. It existed. It's in your heart. You think it existed, but instead, we're left for reality. But I really like imagining a tag. And Biggs has the store. Biggs has... Limebacker store, running back store.
Starting point is 00:14:22 Right. Which is where I'm pretty sure I got Left Tackle Store. And I was like, I bet there's no such thing. He's got a strip mall. It's got a strip mall where every position. It's right there in Kenosha. Like right before you get to DeBrot stop. It's one of those places you go.
Starting point is 00:14:33 The Left Tackle store. And you go in there and it's like, you guys still aren't restocked. You still aren't restocked? No. We put you on back order. Look at how. Pricy. Very pricey.
Starting point is 00:14:44 Layway plan? We don't do layaway. No, no. Look at how Charles Lindow was available at the left tackle store. If you get to the left tackle store as inventory, you are going to get paid. Yeah, it's true. Braxton Jones is it. Braxton Jones is not a discount.
Starting point is 00:14:58 Period. Paragraph. Well, so what do you think? You think they should keep Braxton Jones? They're going to have to pay for him. That's a thing. Like, there's a lot of teams who could use Braxton Jones. I think he's like a top five, like, available left tackle.
Starting point is 00:15:11 No. No. It's not unlike Kevin Jenkins. The limit does not exist. It's another man's treasure. I'm not calling him trash or treasure. I'm just saying that's the... What you got?
Starting point is 00:15:22 What you got? You've got... Yeah, I got Braxton Jones as a quick list in the top five or six. Yeah, that's the reality of left tackles in the NFL. Wow. That's some craziness. I don't think Ben cares about left tackle as much as other people have. He does not.
Starting point is 00:15:38 And he got Pinae Sewell at right. You know, darn out right, going to stay at right. I think he's cool. He would like a better left. I think he would very much like to improve. I'm not saying that, but I'm saying like, they're flat out saying Darnel's not going to move. Does he not care?
Starting point is 00:15:55 Can he not care? Like, is this just radical acceptance? I mean, well, look at the Detroit history, like where he just, Pernet would, like, a decade ago, maybe even six years ago, Penae would have got moved there and they would have tried to make it happen. You know, Darnel would have got moved there
Starting point is 00:16:10 and they would have tried to make it happen. As much as I loved Will Campbell, I think, like, unfortunately, we're saying that when you get moved to left tackle, even from a guard position, it can be very hard. I don't think that we should let the pendulum swing so severely back to, well, left tackles don't matter. Left tackles matter quite a bit. And you want to have a good one there. You don't, the Bears, let's not allow the Bears luck last year to make us believe that that position is not important. A whole lot of luck, by the way. Actually, you know who was a very good example of that was the pass rush that they were facing on the left side with teams who can pass rush.
Starting point is 00:16:51 Like, you know, Max Crosby. Well, I think Cole Commets value as Chip Help and Max Protect was enormous, as was Durham Smyth. You know? Durham Smyth was low-key, very important. I think he was underrated. Yeah, I mean, Lawrence, you caught the very sexy tight-end use. comments yesterday from Ben Johnson. It was great stuff.
Starting point is 00:17:14 About the way that the league is trending. I know it's getting them all hot and bothered, my guy over there. You love, like, when a league adjusts back to itself. Yes, it's part of the whole history of the league. Like, it's punch, counter punch, punch. Yeah. And we're seeing it play out now, whether we're talking about hybrid defenders. Or if we're talking about how you end up sending out your personnel to attack things.
Starting point is 00:17:41 The way that people are like, well, you know, we don't have to be an 11 personnel, 77% of the time. Yeah. We can get creative. It's like, it's, and in MLB, we saw it play out slow when everybody was a sinker-baller, and then the launch angle revolution changed the swings, and then everybody started going after four-seemers with carry and breaking balls that look like the four-seamer, and now you've got a lot of hitters trying to go back to starting above from a mindset and actually swinging down, which really just keeps you swinging level.
Starting point is 00:18:16 So in all leagues, those kind of things are fascinating when you zoom out. Adjustments to the adjustments to the adjustments to the adjustments. You're damn right. That's what it is. Here's what we've got planned for today's show. I don't know if there's ever been a show on the score where the guests have more combined pairs of Jordans than the guests that we have on today.
Starting point is 00:18:39 show. Boog Shambi is going to join us at 525. He's got a lot. Wayne Drey's is going to join us at 325. He wrote the PCA piece in Chicago Magazine. That's a really good piece. It's a really interesting article
Starting point is 00:18:52 on a very interesting player. And I think Wayne has like 40 pairs of Jordans himself. So between the two of those guys, I don't know how many Raymond has, but we can ask him. Raymond Harris, the ultraback, is going to join us at 4 o'clock
Starting point is 00:19:06 and we will talk to him about the bears and the stuff that he's doing as a motivational speaker, there's a lot to get to. But there is Bears news to discuss. Someone's been granted permission to seek trade. So we're going to talk about that since we discussed it a little bit inside of Ben's vision yesterday,
Starting point is 00:19:24 and we will do it after Tannies Open, which, as you know, is must-listen radio. It's next here on the score.
