Starting point is 00:00:01 I love him, by the way, for the one pick six he had, or I don't know if it's a fumbler pick, but he scored a touchdown, and he did the Marchand Lynch as he jumped backwards over the, you know, over the goal line, grabbing a certain body part. Dave Wyman is, nobody phrases things like him. He's just, he's a treasure. I love him. I do. Thank you, Ray, for getting Dave Wyman.
Starting point is 00:00:27 He was a lovely guest. Thanks to James Palmer as well. Thanks to everybody for joining us on our show. Thanks to Adam Amin for waking up and God knows what time zone he thinks he's in and joining us as well. Ray, thank you for your work today. Tyler Buterbaugh, Britt and Fryer, Connor O'Donnell, Jacob Stutz, Max Curtis, and Cody Westerland.
Starting point is 00:00:47 And hello, Lawrence and Matt, I don't want to do the big hello. That is very much your segment after transition. What do you mean the big hello? You know the big hello that you do. Oh, the hello, boy, how you doing? That's a Terry Boersism. 100% just the Terry Boers homage that we are reacclimated after the Terry homage.
Starting point is 00:01:07 Hello. Sorry for the noise. Our microphones are not exactly on the up and up over here. You're allowed to do a big hello. It's transition. It's a big deal. I know, but we can't, some things are sacred for certain segments. Nah.
Starting point is 00:01:19 There's nothing sacred. You're in charge of defining what is sacred, damn it. I like the flower, the color scheme going on here. The pink is happening. The burnt orange. Would you say? It's a little darker than that, maybe? I'd call it a rust.
Starting point is 00:01:34 It is a good call. I think rust is solid. First orange is more orange. But the rust and the pink is working nicely. I feel energized. I like what Marshall's rock in there because it almost gives it a sepia tone feel to it. I realized that when I reached for the hoodie this morning,
Starting point is 00:01:51 I was going to reach for a blue hoodie. And I was like, you know what, though? There's orange, my set it off. Because he's got Josh Gibson in black and white on the T-shirt. Yeah. And that's one of the good. greatest baseball players of all time.
Starting point is 00:02:03 Fortunately, neither one of us decided to wear black turtlenecks on the same day, so that's good. Is that a thing? Oh, it's happened. It's happened with me and my previous midday show partners. That's a her and Dan thing. That's sacred to them. I would not violate that trust.
Starting point is 00:02:15 One day, we both came into the office wearing salmon on the same day, and I was like, okay. That's a problem. That's odd. Well, your pheromones got aligned. Right? Isn't that what you told us last week? It's like, male or female.
Starting point is 00:02:27 It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter. You'll sink up with anybody. You're on the same cycle, Dan? Are we going to go on the same cycle? You have biological supremacy? Like a salamander. She envelopes, not to be appeased with envelopes.
Starting point is 00:02:42 She envelopes. No, I adapt to whomever. Luke and I had the same issue happen sometimes where we would always wear the same color on the same day. I like that. It's the salamander show starring Layla. And then the problem was when we both decided to wear really strong prints one day and we were like, we can't stand next to each other.
Starting point is 00:02:59 This is disgusting for the viewer. I like really strong prints. I'd say after 1999, right? It's like when really strong prints emerged. Maybe it was always really strong prints. One would argue that the strongest prince was in 1979. Dude, controversy. I mean, that's a strong prince.
Starting point is 00:03:17 There's a lot. Sometimes it snows in April. Let me all, sometimes it does snow in April. That is a beautiful song. It's going to hail in March today, though. Did you guys, if anybody has never seen it, when James Brown played, I believe he played in Los Angeles and a young Michael Jackson and a young Prince showed up and both were on stage with James Brown. It is, that is not a strong Prince. That is
Starting point is 00:03:41 Prince overwhelmed by the moment and freaked out because Michael Jackson was the bigger star. And Prince makes an ass of himself on the stage. Like he freaks out. He tries to do too much. He jumps on a fake tree that was part of the scenery and he drags it down. But it is an incredible thing to watch on YouTube. We've all been in that era where we've had a moment with someone and we're like, hold on, I need to rev it up. And yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:07 And you do too much. You do a little bit too much or a lot too much. And everybody's looking at you and you're looking back at them. And yeah, that's fine. That's fine. I tried too hard. I was intimidated. So Scotty Kay is going to be the next person on House of Elle, right?
Starting point is 00:04:23 So we did our interview and he had posted a couple days ago him mashing up Luke Bryan and Genuine. Okay? And I was laughing with him this morning about it because I was watching it over and over again. So then the algorithm got switched. And so the next video that I saw was this incredible video of Glenn Campbell and George Benson
Starting point is 00:04:48 wailing on guitars together on stage. Glenn Campbell is amazing. Glenn Campbell was a badass on guitar. Yeah. Absolute legend on guitar. And so is George Benson. So like having those two guys, you go, oh, wait, those two things don't mix. And you're like, yeah, they do.
Starting point is 00:05:05 They mix great. That's one of my favorite, like, Prince. I can do whatever I want moves was the cover of Best of You by the Food Fighters at the Super Bowl. Like, that was one of those just cool, like, cooler than the man thinks on a separate plane. And that cover was just so brilliant at that time. That's what I think of what I think of, like, the Prince. Screw everybody, Moo.
Starting point is 00:05:28 Well, I love, and I always laugh about it. Like, I feel for you by Shaka Khan is one of my favorites because it's Prince's song. And then they're like,
Starting point is 00:05:41 you know what? We need to give this an edge. So let's put Melly Mel on it. And Shaka's going to sing it. And just for poops and giggles, let's get Stevie Wonder to play the harmonica break on it. It is an amazing.
Starting point is 00:05:55 amazing record and you're like, all this just came together one day. Like they were all in a room together. And it's like, what? This is crazy. Yeah, it's funny. Stevie, like, if you give Stevie 12 bars, he will give you something memorable. That song, the Elton John song, I guess that's why they call it the blues. There's 12 bars of harmonica on it.
Starting point is 00:06:14 It's Stevie Wonder, and it's freaking perfect. And it's like, just drops in and drops out. And you're like, good night, everybody. Do you think that, like, back in the day, people were like, well, obviously Stevie can play piano. and he can sing and he can write incredible songs. But what he actually really loves to do is to play the harp. Well, I was first. Little Stevie, little Stevie with fingertips and everything was the heart.
Starting point is 00:06:35 That's the other thing. And I feel for you, that's sampled. So you have the sample of Stevie Wonder while also having Stevie Wonder on the song, which is insane. But do you think people were like, you know how we could get Stevie? Well, if we just offer him a harmonica solo, he's in. I think it's the, I think music of my mind is, the album that's the first of Stevie's run of five in a row that I'll put up against anybody forever.
Starting point is 00:07:00 But like music of my mind is the first one when the Motown contract expired and he was like, oh, okay, I can do whatever I want. He plays everything on music of my mind. He's like what? He's like 23 or 24 and he's like, all right, cool, I can do with this. And he plays drums. He plays everything. And just like, hello, here I am. When you run into young genius, it's, it's scary. Like looking at the first block of Eddie Murphy movies and being like, he was 22 when he was doing those movies, when he's doing Beverly Hills cop.
Starting point is 00:07:37 Saturday Night Live. Yeah. But then to go from that and be like, no, you're now the leading man in a franchise and you're 22 years old and brilliant. To be fair, 22 back then is like 42 now. Like,
Starting point is 00:07:53 look around. Like, you ever see those pictures? of like sitcom stars in the 80s and how old they actually were and think about what that looks like now? Well, it's, for Murphy, it's similar to Chappelle, right? Where Chappelle got on stage at 15 or 16 and then starts to get discovered.
Starting point is 00:08:10 And then he's doing big rooms by the time he's 20, does half bake, which is still one of my favorite great movie. Movies of all time. Tremendous movie. I just get back to Stevie for one second. You ever watch Stevie Wonder? On weed.
Starting point is 00:08:23 Shout out to John Stewart. Music of my mind, he was 21 years old, right? It's his 14th album. Oh, my God. At age 21. And he plays lead vocals, all background vocals, drums, synthesizer, piano, talk box, harmonica, bongos, clavinet, and bass. Like, at age 21 on his 14th record. That doesn't make sense.
Starting point is 00:08:44 I know, man. It doesn't. It doesn't. Certain people like that just to fire. I can't carry a tune, and this dude's out here. Yeah. Yeah, but you can do other stuff. And there was other stuff that you were good at when you.
Starting point is 00:08:54 you were younger and it probably threw people off. Not like that, though. Got a sports comp for an athlete at 21 who was like, how is he doing that? Junior. Griffey? Yeah. It's so funny. We were literally just watching the interview that King Griffey Jr. did with Dusty Baker
Starting point is 00:09:14 in Nicaragua. It is amazing. It's only nine minutes long. If you've got time, you should seek it out. I threw it on my Instagram. It's amazing and beautiful. and it's, I've been to Nicaragua and I really, really like it, and they have a really rich baseball history.
Starting point is 00:09:30 And then when you add in the tragedy of Roberto Clemente and him being on his way to help with earthquake aid to Nicaragua, and then you have Dusty Baker in there speaking Spanish to everybody. It's a lot. Ordering coffee for Griffey. It's a lot of levels. Making his coffee strong because Nicaragua and coffee is great. It's a beautiful sentiment.
Starting point is 00:09:53 And I was joking with Tanny. King Griffey Jr. was the last player I had on my wall. So, like, that, that, like, effectively ends, like, my childhood. He was the last, like, player that I put on my dorm room wall. Any sport? Yeah, any sport. And there he was last night, cut away to him taking pictures at the World Baseball Classic. That's the thing, Layla.
Starting point is 00:10:13 Like, it's amazing. Like, when you start to see, because he and Randy Johnson are both, like, really good photographers. and I would have never guessed that King Griffey Jr. would be on this side of the business where he's creating content. And same thing with Olin. Like, when I was covering Olin, I would have never thought that Olin would be like the premier, like, offensive line guy to talk to. Other than like talking to him and be like, man, I wish Olin would get in front of a camera. And now he's in front of a camera and in front of a microphones. and seeing guys like that, seeing what a lot of people,
Starting point is 00:10:54 if you went back in time 15 years, would argue is the greatest baseball player that they had ever seen in King Griffey Jr. Once you start looking through the lens, you can see stories and it kind of opens up your mind a little bit. That's clearly part of what's happened to Griffey. I thought last night, we're going to talk to Nico Horner later who's watching all these WBC games.
Starting point is 00:11:13 Oh, who should have been in his second base. And also I hate Bryce to Rang. 100%. Why are people hate Bryce Tarrang? I don't hate Bryce Tarrang. Because he's a pain in the ball. But every time that he isn't playing for Team USA. I mean, he had some
Starting point is 00:11:24 good plays last night, too. That's not the point. But Nico should be there. I don't know him that way. Nico should be there. We agree with that. But he's watching. But I was thinking about it, and we'll ask him later on at 4 o'clock, it's so cool to see Pete Crow Armstrong
Starting point is 00:11:40 just getting a chance to be in the midst of this. There was a moment where they just panned down the top step. And it's all the greatest American players in the world on that team. And then there's Pete. and he's laughing his ass off with Logan Webb. And I have no idea what they're laughing at. But, like, Logan Webb is great.
Starting point is 00:11:56 Is truly freaking great. And so there's an opponent for Pete, who's now his teammate for, like, two weeks, and who knows what he's learning from talking to a guy like that who destroys hitters like Pete Crow Armstrong, you know? So it's like maybe Pete's got to learn some stuff and evolve, and we see it with Olympic basketball
Starting point is 00:12:15 from time to time. We see guys grow a little bit. We see it with this. but like it's just so cool to see these guys all hanging out and interacting. I think I'm with Lawrence on this one. I don't know. All I said was maybe he's going to. That can't be disputed.
Starting point is 00:12:30 Tim Anderson talked about it. Maybe not really hard. Well, that's not even disputing it. It's just choosing negativity. But you do you. It's not choosing negativity. It's choosing pragmatism. It's choosing pragmatism and using case.
Starting point is 00:12:42 It's making it about you and your negativity when I'm just making it about Pete. Okay. So this isn't overly positive from you. when you say it, but it's overly negative when we think it? That's a good point. That's a fair point. I can hear that. What if the conversation was Logan Webb saying,
Starting point is 00:12:59 hey, when I throw this, don't swing it. That might be helpful. Then it would be, you would be correct. He is learning things that can benefit him during the course of the regular season. And it's an opportunity for people, you know? It's up to Pete to see whether he learns from it or now. We've heard about that when it's come to fielding. You know, like Tim Anderson famously talked about fielding on the team USA and how that,
Starting point is 00:13:19 He said that helped him. Did he? But it didn't make him better. Did I worry about that? That's all I'm saying is that there is no evidence to prove Speeg's point. It's a nice thought. It's a beautiful. I didn't have a point.
Starting point is 00:13:31 It's a beautiful idea that maybe it happens, but I'm looking for some proof. You felt the need to counter my point as if it was a point. It was just my perspective. It wasn't a point. I said it was a maybe there. You felt the need to counter it. All I said was maybe not. That's true.
Starting point is 00:13:48 All right. Good point. Speaks. Will you be here next week during the week? I don't know. Lawrence and I have some talking to do. At the break. We'll see.
Starting point is 00:13:55 Because as the free... What's that about? As the free agency maybe winds down a little bit and before baseball season starts... Hold on. Tanny's like raising his arms and joy. The idea. Okay. So I go ahead, Marsha.
Starting point is 00:14:10 Before things get too tense, I just want to say before baseball season get started and you know how you get during baseball season, we all do get a little bit of a way during baseball season. I was thinking maybe it was a downtime as free agency comes to a simmer. Then maybe we, you know, rolled out a little Tecmo. Hey man. This is the lost cost.
Starting point is 00:14:30 At this point, it's the loss cost, just tell me. No, at this point, I owe you Tecmo whenever you want. I feel like... I'm just trying to find a time where... I feel like, yes. When do you want to do it? Do you want to do it this month? I think this... I think this month... I think before baseball season makes it. Before opening day makes a lot of sense. I agree.
Starting point is 00:14:46 Have your people call my people. Okay. I'll see if your people answer, but yes, we'll do that. Does anybody have a power pad? If we had a power pad in here. Oh, my God. I haven't thought about the power pad.
Starting point is 00:14:58 I don't remember the power pad. The power pad looks like a giant controller with multiple. It was like a floor-shaped calculator, basically. So they used to have this game, what was it called? Tracking field. Oh, I remember it now. And so you would do track and field on that. It's the track and field move.
Starting point is 00:15:15 And then not to be confused with the power. glove, which is like a whole different thing, which I never quite figured out how any of that were. What was the glove supposed to do? It was supposed to be like a controller, yeah. It's supposed to be like, but that that's not comfortable? It didn't seem like, it
Starting point is 00:15:31 didn't seem functional. But people were using it because that was the whole premise of the one movie. The Wonder Kid or something like it. Tron? No, no, no. It was a movie about Nintendo. I did go see the latest Tron.
Starting point is 00:15:47 How was it? It's a huge mistake. With Jared Lato? Yeah. And I'm not someone who reflexively hates Jared Leto. Jerry's been making a lot of mistakes lately. He's made 15 years worth of mistakes, okay? Wow.
Starting point is 00:16:00 Although I am someone that didn't hate him as Joker. But a lot of people just hate him on principle. You told me the best thing about Tron, though, is the Trent Resner soundtrack. The soundtrack. It's not it's nails. It's a difference. They are very specific in the interviews that I saw them. They're like, hey, this is a nine-inch nails production.
Starting point is 00:16:20 That is the best thing about that movie and leaving. Those two things together are the best things about the Tron movie. I'm starting to believe that the- The best thing about August will be lanterns. I'm convinced of that. I'm very excited. I'm here for it. I'm excited for it.
Starting point is 00:16:37 I'm excited because people were like, wait a minute. They already introduced Guy Gardner. And I'm like, you guys don't get it. Nobody likes Guy. No one likes Guy Gardner and him saying that he's the only green lantern makes total sense. Yes. But hopefully we'll get to that. I feel so bad I can't participate in the conversations, but it's just all past me by.
Starting point is 00:16:59 I think you should watch lanterns. There's too much catching up to do. No, but there's a decision that you have to make when you can't participate in the conversations. And I struggle with that. Like when these guys are talking lanterns and I got nothing, we just bring something else up or just, you know, say what you said. I'm happy to listen. I just wish I knew more about everything. It's like being at home sometimes
Starting point is 00:17:17 and people are speaking a different language and yes, about a group. Oh, I realize something I need to. I'm sorry, Lawrence. Can one of you get in a serious relationship of consequence that you're willing to talk about on the air?
Starting point is 00:17:28 Because sometimes I feel a pressure to bring up Christine just to talk about relationships. But we all like Christine. I know. But it's like... People don't like us. That can't be true.
Starting point is 00:17:40 I make her content and she's fine with being content but it's like I feel like I want somebody. Ray, do you have a relationship of consequences that you could talk about on the air? I have a girlfriend. Okay. Well, can you bring it up. Congratulations.
Starting point is 00:17:54 Good job. He's got a call for my girlfriend at midnight last night because she lost her cat. And I took an Uber to her place and we searched for her cat in Avondale and at 1.30 a.m., we found her cats. Was the cat on the street or in the house? It was in the street. It was in a tree. Oh, man. It was literally a cat and a tree. And luckily, it was in a small tree, so we were able to get it.
Starting point is 00:18:20 That is hero boyfriend points. For you, though. Bank those hero boyfriend points. Is that the kind of content you need from us? Yes. All right. How about this? Marshall, Laylop, for God's sakes, getting a relationship of consequence.
Starting point is 00:18:33 So we can discuss it. I did that. It required paperwork to break up. She has a good point. She has a very good point on that. I have not required paperwork as of yet. I've been there. Don't let it stop you.
Starting point is 00:18:44 I think I even said that. At one point, did my ex-husband, I was like, remember that time? We're in a courtroom. There's paperwork. Why are you talking to me about this? To get back to Lantern on why you might want to be interested in it? This is what happens when we can't be involved in the conversation. It's just because I don't watch movies and I feel bad.
Starting point is 00:18:59 I'm going to offer you a reason to watch it. Kyle Chandler is playing Hal Jordan. Is this where I confess to you? I never watched Friday Night Lights despite living in Austin. What? And knowing him. That might be the most shocking news I've heard all day. Breaking news on the score.
Starting point is 00:19:15 No, do you know what? You know what? First of all, nobody says Texas forever, because if you're in it, you kind of assume it's going to be there. Number two, wasn't that my entire daily process was covering Texas high school football? Did I really need to watch another show about this? I understand that. It's like my brother, who's a chef, has never watched Top Chef. He's never watched any of those shows because he's like, I don't need to feel that energy.
Starting point is 00:19:39 Or he's never watched. That's the one he's never watched because he's like, I don't love reinvesting. in like kitchen energy because that's what he does. What is it, the diners, drive-ins and dives? Yeah, he's not a guy, Fieri guy. I think he's a condescending. He comes to guy.
Starting point is 00:19:55 All guy Fieri does is help small businesses. Yeah, that's all he does. He's cool with that part of it. He makes me irrationally hungry if I'm watching TV and I've already had a meal and I have to change his channel. I think it's the culinary sensibilities or a lack thereof of, like just liking everything kind of thing. I love the way this conversation went in so many different directions.
Starting point is 00:20:13 Transition, baby. It's almost like, like, people took the work, like, they took what they thought Anthony Bourdain was saying and didn't actually listen to what he was saying about food. And then they kind of decided, well, this is, this is the way to be a foodie. And it's like, Anthony Bordane would eat at some of the, like, low down places and then talk about, like, the actual art of eating and culture and all of that stuff. There's a very strong religious parallel that can be drawn to what you just described.
Starting point is 00:20:44 Oh, very strong. Let me give you another recommendation. Okay. Taylor Tomlinson's latest special on Netflix, a prodigal daughter, outstanding. Okay. Her talking about her growing up in the church and growing out of the church. I got to get somebody's Netflix password, but yeah, I'll get to it.
Starting point is 00:21:01 Ray? Ray. We can't share those anymore, right? I got that premium plan, Marshall. Go ahead. I'll give you a premium. See, Ray. I got you.
Starting point is 00:21:10 Ladies and gentlemen, I want to thank Hero boyfriend Ray Diaz. Exactly. For the relationship content. 217 goes, was it her cat or just a cat and you called it a win? Oh, no. It was her cat for sure. Found you a cat. It's not yours, but just take this as a replacement cat.
Starting point is 00:21:27 No, no, no, it was definitely her cat. I didn't do any replacement tricks. Oh, I found your cat. Like old school 90 sitcom stuff. Right, exactly. The cat's missing. This cat kind of looks like that cat. So we'll just say it's that cat.
Starting point is 00:21:42 Or maybe Alf just ate the cat. That's what he threatened to do. And if you want to talk about a big bleep you in television history, the finale of Alf. Ah, yes. He's a big old bleep you to the network. I'm glad you know about that. Okay? I know about things.
Starting point is 00:22:00 I see you, Loris. I know about stuff. And then the ubu at the end, the credits. Sit, ubu, sit. Good dog. Urf. Erf. Here's what we have coming up on today's show.
Starting point is 00:22:11 Ben's vision will be at 3 o'clock. talk defensive ends. Good stress last night with Team Mexico versus Team USA. Nico Horner is on the show at 4 today. And you guys' conversation with Adam Amin was amazing.
Starting point is 00:22:27 There's a portion of it that we want to bring back, and so we will do that. We are also going to talk a little bit about what the bears are doing, what they aren't doing, and who's back? Shocking stuff. Guess who's back?
Starting point is 00:22:40 Back again to play left tackle, not defensive end. Nailed it. We will do all of that after Taney's open, which you know is must listen. It's next here on the score. And this segment is brought to by AlmostFreeteeth.com.
