How far is this entitled 28-year-old loser willing to go to never have to pay rent?
Is he willing to commit murder?
Now, the guy's name is Joel Guy, and Joel Guy is 28 living in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
And Joel Guy is kind of a turd.
It's not that he doesn't have a job.
It's that he's 28 and has never worked a day in his life.
He lives alone in an apartment that his parents pay for.
And he loves this lifestyle.
Of course he does.
he doesn't have to do shit.
He takes a few college classes here and there,
but he's been going to college off and on since 2007.
So for nine years, he's been going to school part-time,
and he's still got no degree.
This guy's going nowhere.
But then one day in 2016, he gets the worst news ever.
He finds out that his parents are planning to retire soon,
and as part of their retirement plan,
they're going to sell their house in Knoxville, Tennessee,
and move to a new place.
And see, his parents, they're kind of tired of supporting his lazy ass.
They know that they're going to have to force him to be independent.
So with this retirement and all these financial changes in their life,
they decide that they're finally going to cut Joel Guy off.
No more free ride for him.
So when Joel Guy finds this out, he's very upset.
And he doesn't want to have to work or pay his own bills.
He just wants to keep doing nothing.
Now, from here, of course, he could go, you know, get a job or something like that, but that's not what he's going to do.
He comes up with a different solution.
His mom has a $500,000 life insurance policy on her through her work, and Joel Guy is one of the beneficiaries.
So he starts thinking that he really wants that money.
But in order to get it, his parents need to unfortunately die.
So he decides to make that happen.
Joel Guy starts writing out this ridiculously detailed plan in his notebook,
basically an instruction manual for how he's going to pull off this murder.
His plan is to kill them both and make his dad's body disappear and make it look like his mom did it.
His mom, yeah, you know, the one who pays his rent.
Because if his dad disappears, then he'll get more money from his mom's life insurance policy.
He also writes in his notebook that he plans on killing the family dog.
Who knows why?
There's obviously no life insurance on the dog.
But anyway, after he writes it all out in detail,
he goes to five different stores, like Ace Hardware, Home Depot, places like that,
to gather up some supplies.
Then he gets to work on his plan.
So it's now Thanksgiving,
and he drives nine hours from Louisiana all the way to Tennessee to his parents' place
so that he can spend the holiday with his parents and some of his extended family.
Once the holiday's over, Joel Guy's sisters, they leave and they take their kids,
and Joel Guy stays behind with his parents.
About two days later, he's ready to put his plan into motion.
Joel Guy tells his mom that he really wants some ice cream,
and he asks if she'll go get him some from the store.
So she leaves.
Once she's gone, he goes upstairs to where his dad is,
and he's got a knife.
So he sneaks up on his dad
and boom, he stabs him
over and over again
and this unfortunately
kills him.
Then he goes back downstairs
and he waits for his mom to come home.
When she comes in carrying her groceries
he's right there with a knife
and boom he stabs her too
and this kills her as well.
Then he dismembers them
and he puts them in plastic storage containers
with a bunch of chemicals.
He's trying to get rid of any evidence
by basically dissolving their bodies in acid.
It's kind of like that scene in Breaking Bad.
Also, for some sick reason,
he cuts off his mom's head
and he boils it in a pot on the kitchen stove.
I guess he thinks this will help accelerate
the decomposition process.
Also, fortunately, he does not end up killing the family dog.
He just locks it up in the laundry room.
Now, at some point during this horrible crime,
Joel Guy accidentally had sliced up his hands pretty badly.
And he wants to clean up the crime scene, but his hands hurt too much.
So he wraps them up as best he can,
and then he goes to Walmart to get some hydrogen peroxide and some rubbing alcohol.
I guess the peroxide is for his wounds,
and the rubbing alcohol is to erase any DNA and fingerprint evidence from the scene.
Then he goes back to his parents' house.
where he cleans up the crime scene some more.
But eventually his hands hurt too much,
and he knows he needs real medical attention.
And he thinks his left thumb might fall off
because the cut on it is so deep.
So he stops cleaning,
and he turns up the thermostat to 95 degrees,
and he places space heaters down
because he believes all this heat
will not only speed up the decomposition of the remains,
but that it'll also melt his fingerprints off the surfaces he touched.
Whatever, then he leaves.
His plan is actually to get medical attention,
then come back to his parents' place,
and finish cleaning up the crime scene.
So he drives nine hours all the way back to Baton Rouge
so that he can use the student health center
at his local college for treatment on his hands.
Because, you know, this is America
and no one has health insurance here.
It's too damn expensive.
Gotta use the student center.
Anyway, he gets to the school health center
and he gets his hands looked at
and they stitch one of them up.
And he spends about two days in Louisiana
before he drives back to his parents' house to finish cleaning.
Now, by this point, it's Monday morning,
and Joel Guy's mom is supposed to be at work.
But of course, she doesn't show up,
which is very unlike her.
Plus, she has a retirement lunch planned
with her coworkers that day,
and she's not there.
So her supervisor knows something is very wrong.
I mean, she wouldn't just blow everyone off without calling,
or letting anyone know?
So she starts texting Joel Guy's mom.
But of course, she isn't getting a response.
Then she calls the police and asks them to go to a welfare check.
So police go over to Joel Guy's parents' house
and they're snooping around outside looking for signs of anything gone wrong.
And they can hear the family dog barking from inside
because it's still locked in the laundry room.
Probably has no food or water.
Police also can feel the heat blasting from outside.
The glass on the windows is actually hot.
Plus, they can smell a chemical odor.
So they go inside.
And there, they find the remains of Joel Guy's parents.
They also find Joel Guy's notebook that he left there,
where he lays out what he needs to pull off these murders
and how he plans to cover everything up
and what he expects to get from his parents afterwards.
So police know that he's involved in this,
and they start looking for him.
While this is going on, Joel Guy is just arriving at his parents' house,
and he sees that the police are there now, and that everything is blocked off by yellow crime scene tape.
So I guess he just hopes that the heater did the trick and that his fingerprints have been melted off the scene or whatever.
So he turns his car around and he drives back to Baton Rouge, where he'll be safe from the police.
On two.
A few days later, the police show up to his appointment.
apartment, and bam, Joel Guy is arrested. Here's his creepy-ass mugshot. And ultimately,
he goes to trial and he's found guilty and he gets sentenced to life in prison.
The judge ordered two consecutive life sentences. Judge Steven Sword noted, based on the behavior
of that killer, not even 500 years would be enough time to rehabilitate him.
