In January 2009, Rosa Hill and her mother, Mei Li, entered the Dublin, California, home of Hill’s estranged husband, Eric Hill, during a contested custody battle over their daughter. During the incident, the women killed Eric's 91-year-old grandmother, Selma Hill.

And Rosa is 27 when this story starts and she's living in California. Rosa has a problem. She really doesn't want to work. Like she just wants a man to take care. of her, you know, someone who will pay for everything. But then one day in 2002, she meets the perfect guy. His name's Eric. And Rosa thinks Eric is foin, and he thinks she is foin right back, and so they start dating and they fall in love, and pretty quickly things start to get serious. Here's the thing though, Rosa, she's not a good partner. Now, she's very controlling

when it comes to Eric. Like, she doesn't like him to make any phone calls without her, and when he does make phone calls, she always wants to be listening, even when he's just calling his family and stuff like that. Like he can't even call his own mom without her breathing down his neck. Now, who does that? Now at some point, when Rosa feels like she has this relationship locked in, she stops working completely. So now, Eric has to support both of them. Regardless, in 2005, they get married, and they have a wedding, and they have an expensive honeymoon, they actually go to Hawaii. And since, Eric is the only one with a job and the only one making money, he's the one paying for it. And so they quickly go into debt.

And from here, things only get worse. Because now they're always fighting about money, like constantly. Not only that, but then Rosa ends up pregnant. And in 2006, they have a daughter. Now, in order to try and get out of debt and support his family, Eric is now working two jobs. Well, Rosa, she isn't working at all. And also, she just seems miserable. While Eric is over here trying to make her not be so miserable,

because he wants this to work out. So he stops spending time with his extended family and friends because, you know, Rosa gets jealous. But even this doesn't make her happy. Like, she has basically isolated him from everyone who actually cares about him so that the only person he has left in his life is her and she is terrible to him. But despite all his efforts to please her, she eventually starts pulling away from him,

and she spends more and more time at her parents' house. So now Eric is working all the time and he's lonely and he barely gets to see his daughter. So over time, he starts getting depressed. And now they're like fighting all the time over this and over money, and by 2007, Rosa starts threatening him with divorce. And remember, she's super controlling. So she's always had complete control over all their stuff, the house, the bank accounts, and the baby. So she ends up kicking him out of the house.

And so now they are officially separated. And unfortunately for Eric, he has to temporarily go live with his grandma, who we'll just call grandma. And from here, Rosa gets really evil, like she starts to cut Eric out of their daughter's life as much as she can. She refuses to let him see her. she won't even let him see her on her first birthday. And so this is when Eric finally decides that he's had enough. I mean, she can't just keep their daughter away from him. So he goes and he hires a lawyer and he files a lawsuit for custody.

Now, when Rosa finds this out, she gets super pissed off and she decides to make it her mission in life to ruin him in every way that she can think of. And she is not playing around. She ends up emailing one of his jobs at the social services department, and she tells them that Eric is off his meds and that he's planning to come in and shoot up the office. And this place immediately suspends Eric. And later, they investigate and they find out that it was a hoax, and they let him come back to work. But Rosa, she's not done.

She keeps going. She calls up the police, and she reports that Eric is essaying their daughter. She also calls up child protective services and says the same thing. And she tries to leverage these accusations in her custody battle against Eric, but luckily her claims are investigated and found to be false. And so now it's 2008. And their custody battle is finally over and Eric ultimately wins. And he's awarded 85% physical custody of their daughter and 100% legal custody. And Rosa is really upset by this, and she finally just snaps.

And she decides it's time to murder Eric and take him out of the picture completely. That way, she'll get custody of her daughter back. And so she gets together with her mom. Her mom is this woman, May. So Rosa and May, they put together a plan called Operation Custody. And in this plan, they're going to break into Eric's 91-year-old grandma's house where he lives, and then they're going to murder her and then they're going to hide and wait for Eric

to get home and then they're going to murder him. But then they're going to stage it all to make it look like Eric was the one who murdered his grandma. So Rosa and May get to work on this plan and they go out and they buy an insane amount of weapons and supplies like guns and a sword and a pocket saw and a throwing star, duct tape, stun guns,

rope, arrows for a crossbow, a baton, handcuffs and goggles. Like what are they planning in a medieval invasion? They also start Googling suspicious things like how to get away with murder and how to strangle someone and also deadly poisons. Once they're all ready to go, one morning Rosa grabs all their gear and she heads over to Grandma's house. When Grandma's expected to be there alone. Then she enters the place through a side door in the garage. And when she finds Grandma, boom, she tases her. Then she beats her with a broom.

Then she strangles her. then she uses a stun gun on her to make sure that she's finally dead. Then she wraps Grandma on some sheets, and she dumps her body into a garbage can in the backyard shed. Then she goes inside, and she calls her mom, May. And May comes over, and the two of them wait for Eric to come home from work so that they can ambush him too. So he goes inside and he notices Grandma's house is unusually dark and quiet. So he gets a bad feeling. So he leaves his daughter in the living room and he goes upstairs to check on Grandma. Once he gets into her room, he turns on the light and boom, Rosa and May appear out of nowhere. And one of them starts beating him with various weapons, while the other one repeatedly shocks him with a stun gun. But Eric, he's like fighting back the whole time. Then Rosa points a pistol right at him,

and they're demanding that he give up custody of their daughter. And Eric, he eventually agrees, because, you know, he's got a gun pointed at him. And remember, their daughter is downstairs in the living room this whole time, listening to all this violence going on upstairs. And way, meanwhile, outside the house is Grandma's boyfriend's son and his wife. They had apparently come over to check on her. And so they can hear all this chaos going on inside, and they run to a neighbor's house, and they call the police. And pretty quickly, police get there, and pow, they bust in, and they basically rescue Eric.

And also, bam, they arrest Rosa. Here's her mugshot. And bam, they arrest May. Here's her mugshot. And so Rosa goes to trial, and she's found guilty, and she gets sentenced to 36 years to life in prison, while May ultimately gets life in prison.
