Ray William Johnson: True Story Podcast - She's Gonna Kill Him - The Amy Bosley Story
Episode Date: March 14, 2026In 2005, Amy Bosley made a frantic 911 call reporting that an intruder had broken into her Kentucky home and shot her husband, Bob Bosley, while their two young children were asleep nearby. However, i...nvestigators quickly grew suspicious of her story after finding bullet casings in the washing machine and evidence that she had staged the break-in by breaking glass after the shots were fired. The true motive was revealed to be financial: Amy had embezzled approximately $1.7 million from their family roofing business and was desperate to hide the theft from both her husband and the IRS, who had scheduled a meeting with Bob for that very morning.

So this woman did some incredibly evil things to her own husband.
Now the woman's name is Amy and Amy's 17 when this story starts, living in Kentucky.
And here's the thing about Amy. Amy really loves money.
I mean she also likes nice cars and expensive clothes and vacations, everything money can buy.
But too bad for her, she works as a waitress at a local diner.
She can't afford all those things.
So what she's really looking for is a man who can give her all that stuff she wants and finance her lifestyle.
And then one day in 1986, she meets a guy who can.
This guy, Bob.
And Bob's 23.
He owns a chimney sweeping business.
He also owns about 20 rental properties.
So the dude is making a lot of money.
And so he's just the kind of man Amy is looking for.
So Amy sees Bob in the diner and she immediately thinks he is foin.
and Bob thinks the same about her.
And soon they start dating.
And four years later, in 1990, they get married.
And on top of that, Bob's business is also growing.
He expands into roofing, and his company becomes worth millions of dollars.
So now a lot of money is flowing in, and they're able to finally afford nice things.
They have multiple cars and a private plane and their own luxury boat, along with all the houses he already owns.
And so Amy is finally the rich woman with nice things that she has always wanted to be.
But for some stupid reason, she's just not satisfied with this life.
She wants more.
She wants even more money and even more luxury things.
So she starts looking for ways that she can steal funds from her husband Bob.
And eventually one day she gets that opportunity.
because, see, Bob, he loves work.
Like, he loves doing his job.
But one thing he hates doing is taxes and paperwork.
He's kind of like me.
So he turns to Amy to help him out.
And she had previously taken some business administration classes at the local community college.
So Bob figures that she could probably handle the company's financial paperwork.
So he puts her in charge of all of it.
The company's finances, filing taxes, the bookkeeping, everything.
Once she gets in that position, her greedy ass starts fucking it all up.
Like, instead of paying taxes on the company's behalf, she begins diverting the money right to herself.
Like she'll write the checks to the IRS to make it look like the taxes have been paid, but she won't mail them.
Instead, she'll withdraw the money and keep it for herself.
And she doesn't just do this one time.
She does this over and over and over again.
And months go by.
And by this point, she's stolen about $100,000 from Bob's business.
And that's great and all.
But here's the funny thing about the IRS.
When someone doesn't pay taxes, they tend to notice.
So they notice Bob's company hasn't been paying taxes,
and they send him late notices and whatnot.
But every time they do,
that, Amy will intercept the mail and she'll hide them. And eventually she gets a secret
PO box and she reroutes all the IRS mail there so the Bob never sees it. She also redirects
calls meant for Bob's cell phone to her own phone. She is trifling. So anyway, so what does she do
with all this tax money that she's been stealing for herself? Well, she apparently uses it to maintain
their expensive-ass lifestyle.
Like they start building a massive custom home inspired by a castle.
They host a bunch of expensive houseboat parties out on the local lake.
But she also hides most of it.
And it's not exactly clear where, but she stashes a lot of it.
And years go by.
And Amy still isn't paying taxes for Bob's company.
Now, eventually, after sending multiple notices without getting a response,
the IRS decides to pay a visit to Bob's house.
So one day they show up out of nowhere,
and Bob's not home, he's probably at work,
but Amy is there, so they speak to her.
And they explain to her that Bob and his company
owe substantial back taxes,
and that if he doesn't resolve this soon,
they might throw him in prison.
And of course, Amy acts all surprised,
like she doesn't know what they're talking about,
like, oh no, well, I guess I'll let him know,
But then she doesn't let Bob know.
He still has no idea that any of this is going on.
And so Amy just continues on stealing the money that's meant to go to the IRS.
Now eventually, it's 2005.
And at this point, Amy has stolen about $1.7 million from Bob's company that's meant to pay the taxes.
And one day, as a last resort, the IRS calls Bob's home.
and they're trying to see if they can resolve this.
And so Amy answers the phone.
But the IRS doesn't want to talk to her.
They insist on speaking directly to Bob.
And so Amy's like, okay, I'll go get him.
Then she does the thing where she like lowers her voice and pretends to be him on the phone.
Like, hello, this is Bob.
But of course, the IRS, they're not buying that.
They know something's up.
So they immediately become suspicious.
and one of the IRS agents tells Amy that they'll be coming by to speak to Bob tomorrow in person.
And so now Amy is freaking out.
I mean, she doesn't know what she's going to do.
She knows that once Bob speaks to them, her whole scam is going to fall apart.
Plus, Bob will probably get all mad and divorce her and she might lose custody of her kids
and then she'll lose the lifestyle that she's been enjoying for years.
And she is not about to let that happen.
So she comes up with a devious plan.
That night, she plans to shoot Bob while he's sleeping,
and then she's going to stage the scene to make it look like a robbery gone wrong.
That way, the IRS will never be able to talk to him.
And so she gets to work on this plan.
First, she slips some sleeping pills into her kids' food.
They're supposed to be home that night,
and she doesn't want them to accidentally see her.
shooting their dad in his sleep.
So she slips them some pills,
and they immediately pass out.
Next, she waits for Bob to go to sleep.
Then she gets a pistol,
and she sneaks into his bedroom,
and then, blam, blam, she shoots him,
and this, unfortunately, kills him.
Then she trashes the whole place
to make it look like someone broke in.
Now, during this whole process,
she finds that her shooting left full,
four shell casings on the floor.
So she takes them and she hides them in the washing machine for some reason.
After that, she calls 911.
And so police arrive and they start investigating.
And immediately, they know something's up.
I mean, the robbery looks too perfect, almost like it was staged.
Also, why are there no footprints outside?
Like, wouldn't a robber have left footprints?
Anyway, eventually, they find the bullet casings that she put in the washing machine.
and they're like, why would a robber hide shell casings in a washing machine?
That's weird.
But as strange as all that is, there's nothing that says that it was actually Amy who murdered Bob.
So she might just get away with all this.

Until.
Until the IRS hears about Bob's death.
And they know something's not right.
So they contact the local police in charge of the case.
And they explained that Bob hadn't been paying taxes for years.
and that they caught Amy mimicking his voice on the phone,
and that the whole situation just looks very suspicious.
So police investigate more.
And soon they find out that Amy was the one in charge of bookkeeping for the company
and how she had been pretending to handle the taxes,
but that she was actually stealing the money instead.
And so, bam, Amy is arrested.
Here's her mugshot.
And ultimately, she ends up taking a plea deal,
and she gets sentenced to a minimum of 20 years.
