REAL AF with Andy Frisella - WHAT IF: The Least Asked Question of the Most Successful People, with Andy Frisella - MFCEO265
Episode Date: October 5, 2018"What if?" is a question I hear people asking all the time...people who are in the middle of their entrepreneurial journey...or people who are in the midst of trying to accomplish a big goal. The real...ity is, people who constantly ask themselves that question are mentally abusing themselves. They are subjecting themselves to doubt & uncertainty. Successful people, entrepreneurs or otherwise, are different. They ask entirely different questions and operate under a whole different set of expectations.

I can stack them hundreds to the roof. I ain't stopping till they stack to the moon.
Without me, my family wouldn't have food. Anybody go against me, gotta lose.
What is up, guys? You're listening to the MFCEO Project. I'm Andy. I'm your host.
And I am the motherfucking CEO. Guys, it's been a minute. It has been a minute.
But let me tell you something. There's reasons why it's been a minute. It has been a minute. But let me tell you something.
There's reasons why it's been a minute.
And the main reason is this.
Unlike most of the other guys out there that just crank content, crank content, crank content,
say the same fucking shit over and over again.
Number one, I got a real jobs.
I run real companies and I don't run companies that just sell you
information on how to be successful. I'm talking about a real company that ships products that
does things other than the info. You know, right now it's real popular to call yourself an
entrepreneur. If you just create fucking information on how to do shit and then sell it to other people and then talk about how much money you made being successful, selling people the courses on how to do shit. To me,
you know, that shit has played the fuck out. Um, so usually around this time of year,
we get real busy here with the business that we do because we're gearing up for next year.
And that's the reason why I had to take a little bit of time off. The other thing is this,
you know, I begin a lot of you guys asking me when I'm going to speak, where I'm going to speak,
what I'm going to do. And as a lot of you know, M.I. Lett and I have partnered on the Arte Syndicate, which is a super, super high level
entrepreneurial society that we're pouring a lot of time and resources into. One of the things
that Ed and I talked about when we started this was getting away from the entrepreneur space. Um, you know, right now you have lots of people selling
events and having, you know, these quote unquote entrepreneur events and you go to them, you pay a
lot of money, you go there, you're hoping to learn some shit. And what happens whenever you go to
them, you get sold. You have 25 fucking speakers that go up on stage and then pitch you
on, you know, they tell you just enough information and then pitch you to buy some more shit.
And you know, these entrepreneur events are expensive. They cost a lot of fucking money.
And, uh, Ed and I have both agreed to basically just not be a part of anything like that anymore.
Uh, if we're going to be a part of an event, they're going to teach you. If you see my name on the poster, if you see
Ed's name on the poster, that's a, that's something that you can go to and you can learn. Um,
these pitch fests, this whole fucking entrepreneurial society and the way it's
going is, it's just not something that I vibe with. It's not something I want to be a part of.
It's not something I want to be intertwined with. And for that reason, I'm going to be doing things differently. I won't be
speaking as much. I won't be out doing as many things because the reality is, is these guys,
they want to pay me to come in and headline their fucking events. So you guys will all come.
And then all I do is try to sell you shit. And I'm not going to do that to you guys. It's not
what we're about. It's not what I'm about. It's not what Ed's about. And that's that. Just wanted to get that off my
chest. The thing I want to talk to you guys about today, and it's not going to take long,
is something that I've been hearing very, very frequently from people. You know,
we get a lot of questions. We get a lot of people submitting, you know, their questions,
whether it be through DM or through my website or whatever, they just want it answered.
And one of the most common questions and one of the biggest issues I see with a lot of you guys
who are more towards the beginning and even the middle of your entrepreneur journey is this. You ask yourself the question of what if, okay? What if I do all this work and I don't
get the result I want? What if I go to the gym and I work out, you know, for an hour a day and
I eat right and I do all this shit and I don't get in shape? What if I put all this time
and energy into a relationship and it doesn't work out? We can literally say what if about any
aspect of our lives and use it as a way to cop out of doing what is necessary. All right. This is the most common mistake people make about success. They
look at success as if it's a magical thing. And if, as if they can go out and do every single step
that is necessary and they somehow won't get the result because the powers that be, God, the universe,
whatever it is, has deemed them unsuccessful. And let me tell you something, guys, that's just not
fucking true. All right. There's millions of people who are dumber than you, less educated
than you, lazier than you that have gone out and done the shit that you want to
do because they didn't ask themselves, what if I do this and this doesn't happen? Guys, this is
mental torture. All right. This is, we talk, you know, you hear all of right now it's popular talk
about abuse. This is fucking mental abuse. It's self mental abuse because it's one thing to analyze
where it is you're going. It's one thing to have an educated guess of where it is you're going.
It's a complete different thing to fill yourself with anxiety, fill yourself with questions,
fill yourself with uncertainty because you don't know where it is you're going.
But let me let you in on a little secret. Nobody who has built anything ever knew exactly
where they were going to end up. Nobody. Now you might have guys tell you, yeah,
I fucking knew exactly where I was going. And it worked out perfectly because they want to tell you how great they are and how smart they are and how much smarter they
are than you. And they're probably doing that so they can sell you some fucking courses on how to
do shit. But the truth of the matter is guys, that's just not reality. Successful entrepreneurs,
they look at the situation, they, they, they analyze the landscape, they look
out and they say, hey, you know what? If we do this and we do this and we do this and we keep
doing these things, eventually we're going to end up somewhere over here and that's where we want to
be. We want to be over there, okay? And they're going to go ahead and start doing the things that
are going to take them there. Let's just look at this from a fitness aspect. Let's say you need to lose 50 pounds. Okay. You want
to look like the fucking rock when you're done with 50 pounds. All right. Now I see people do
this all the time in fitness too, by the way, these people will, they'll make a plan and then
they'll look at the plan and they'll say, all right, I still haven't lost even one pound yet,
but I don't know if this is the right plan that's going to get me looking like the rock.
So then they start messing with the plan. And then they're like, well, I don't, you know,
I don't know if this is the right plan on the second version. And then they say that third
version, and then they just keep doing that and they never actually get started. But the truth
of the matter is this, if you go to the gym and you fucking
work out with intensity for 40 minutes a fucking day, if you watch what you eat and stop stuffing
bullshit down your fucking throat every day and stop eating like a fucking hippopotamus,
what's going to happen? In six months, are you going to be closer to the rock or further away?
You're going to be closer. You know, I used to play a lot of golf growing up.
My dad and my brother were great golfers. I was not very good.
But one thing I can remember my dad telling me about putting, all right, putting on the green,
like putting is what wins, what makes you good at golf, okay? He would say, imagine around the hole that the hole is actually the size of a bucket or
actually the size of a, you know, of a, you know, three foot in diameter versus fucking the size of
a golf ball. You just imagine there's a bigger
hole. Okay. And if you don't know exactly how to hit it into the small hole, you just try to hit
it into the imaginary bigger hole. Okay. Now, are you better off hitting it into the bigger hole
and missing than you would be not hitting the ball at all? Of course you are. You're close.
Okay. And then you make fine tune adjustments based off of
the feedback that you got from taking the shot in the first place. And that's no different than
fucking life. That is no fucking different. No different than business. No different than
fitness. No different than anything. You have to quit asking yourself and over analyzing.
And you hear this saying a lot, paralysis by analysis.
It's a real thing. A lot of you guys suffer from this. A lot of you guys are sitting there right
now saying, well, what if I do this? And what if I do that? And I could do this and I could do that.
When the reality is you should just be doing fucking something because fucking something
is going to get you closer to where you want to be. And you're going to develop
knowledge by doing that. Okay. And here's the other part to that equation. Okay.
Here's the thing. A lot of you guys want this shit to come instantly. Okay. You want shit to
come overnight. Yesterday we had, um, we had a guy named Mike, Boot Guy come in, and he makes custom cowboy boots, all right?
And he does this shit for like World Series championship teams, national championship teams, Super Bowl teams.
I mean, super high-profile gift, all right?
I know a lot of you guys don't understand cowboy boots, but these are like $5,000, $6,000, $8,000 sets of cowboy boots.
They're totally custom made, all right?
And we had 19 guys who had been in our company
for longer than five years,
and we got everybody a custom set of cowboy boots, all right?
Now, that sounds like, oh yeah, that's cool.
But let me tell you something.
I've had a number of those guys who have come in today, shook my hand, thanked me with tears in their eyes for doing that.
All right. And it's not it's not the boots.
OK, what they're really thanking me for is the journey that they've been on.
All right. And that's what you guys have to understand.
As cool as it was to get these dudes set up with this gift, to get them custom boots.
And when I say custom, they got to design them, okay?
They got to do anything they wanted on them.
Some are probably going to be ugly.
Some are probably going to be cool.
But here's the reality.
We got them all set up.
And those little things, like those little things, like the things that we do with our team
the friends that we make the dinners the the stories the failures the successes the trips
the vacations the all the challenges that we overcome together that's what makes success so
fucking cool it's not the money it's not the car it's not the money. It's not the car. It's not the fucking house.
It's none of that shit. And so many of you guys are trying to skip this process of
learning as you're going because you're trying to overanalyze it, that you're missing the point.
And the point is that the journey and the friends that you make and the challenges you overcome and the bonds that
you create and the fun that you have, that all creates your fucking story. Okay. And would you
want to have six? Would you really want to have millions of dollars with no fucking story to share
about it? Would you want to have the house, a car and somebody be like, well,
how'd you get it? Well, I fucking won the lottery. Dude, that would suck. That would suck. Okay.
You guys need to quit with the fucking overnight bullshit. Quit thinking about how long it's going
to take. Quit thinking about that. You're never going to make it because you could see all the
what ifs. All right, dude,
anything great that's ever been fucking accomplished in humanity could have easily
been dismissed with a conversation about what if we do this and this doesn't work the way that we
want. Every fucking thing. Think about the guy that fucking built the first skyscraper. Hey,
what if we fucking build this
giant building and it falls down? Well, guess what? If it falls down, the next one we fucking
make isn't going to fall down the same way. That's the mentality of fucking champions.
And a lot of you guys are missing the point. The key to success is not having the perfect plan.
It's not knowing what to do. It's doing the shit when you don't know
what to do. And it's doing the shit and being able to observe and take the information and make a
better path for yourself later. So if you're sitting there and you're saying, what if I do
all this work and it never works out? What if I, what if I, you know, don't, what if I neglect my
girlfriend right now and I do all
this work and I lose her and I never get where I want to go well guess what with that attitude
you're never gonna get where the fuck you want to go anyway because people that succeed do shit
and people that don't succeed talk about what can go wrong doing shit shit's gonna go wrong doing shit. Shit's going to go wrong. Bad shit's going to happen. Things are going to be
frustrating. You're going to have to learn how to put out fires. Dude, I had a conversation
with someone today about how many fires they had to put out. And they said, oh, you know,
I was freaking out. And I'm like, good. Because that's the skill that successful people have that unsuccessful people don't.
They're able to take the shit that goes wrong and make it go right. And you can't do that when
you're sitting there focusing about what if, what if, what if, what if. You can only do that when
you're in the fucking game, when you're on the battlefield and you're running full force towards
where it is you want to go. And guess what? Sometimes you're going to step in a pothole. Sometimes you're going to sprain an
ankle. Sometimes you're going to fall on your face. Sometimes you're going to go 10 miles in
one direction and realize you went the wrong fucking way, but you're still going to be better
off than the person who's sitting back twiddling their fucking thumbs saying, well, I could have done that if I really
wanted to, like everybody else. All right. Quit analyzing everything in your life with the
question of what if, what if, what if, and you know what? Start fucking doing shit because until
you start doing shit, you are just like everybody else. You are, you are just like all the people that you probably
think you're better than. You're just like them. You're just like them. You don't want to be
average. I don't want to be average. I'm not an average motherfucker. Well, guess what? If you're
not doing anything, you are average. You're fucking average. That's reality. Well, I'm waiting for the
right time. No, you're not. Cause there is no right time. You've got a choice. Do something or fucking be like everybody else.
And that's all you got.
